Introducing... WEST

A 47 year old turf battle veteran with a heart of gold who joined the Underground Anarchy scene a few years ago because he needed a faster change of pace.

West is a much more level-headed and responsible figure compared to most UA players, he always keeps his cool against annoying players who purposely try to get on his nerves, and always make sure to let them know he won’t let them step all over him.

He's the kind of guy to stop fights, whether by peaceful or violent means.

Most people only know him inside UA. There's very little known about him on the outside. That makes him a bit intimidating from a regular bystander.

Some people will say he's really skilled! and look up to him.

Other people might say they hate his cool-headedness and that he's just a stick in the mud old man who doesn't know his place.

He's a pretty reliable teammate, frequently filling in the support role who paints turf and splats opponents from perches. But in any situation he's quite adaptable.

West was a pretty anxious kid, he started to participate in turf battles when he was 15, a year later than most squid kids because he wasn’t too sure of himself yet.

He fell in love with turf battling. It was a hobby he participated in as a way to escape his problems at home, and slowly but surely strengthen his confidence in himself.

He also got freakishly amazing at it, he was good at a lot of weapons but his main has always been his 96. Gal.

His favorite modes are rainmaker and splat zones.

Things were going great for West. He wanted to do this forever, it's what he loved to do, but good things don't last forever, that proved itself when West started to grow up past high school and people started to expect him to drop his enjoyment for turf war. He wasn’t a kid anymore, and it was time to face the real world like most adults in the city.

He fought back against this idea for a moment but he easily gave up, sadly. Just, the crushing reality was too painstakingly obvious. It was either do what he loved or... Be a disappointment.

AND NO! He couldn’t balance his hobby with his job! NO TURF WARS for ADULTS! What a childish idea!

So for 4 long, long years, he dedicated his life to learning how to become a pilot! It wasn’t as horrible as West expected! West has liked the idea of being a pilot for a while now and now he’s following that dream!

Eventually, turf wars were just a faded memory in the back of West’s mind. There were more important things to worry about, and thats okay!

West worked as a airline pilot for 9 years! During this time he made multiple friends, valuable life experiences, and! his husband (Beck) and wife (Tori) have conceived a daughter for the three of them! (Vida)

After their kid was born, West wanted to be a good dad, but because of his job, he unfortunately became a bit distant from his only daughter. I’ll make another post about West’s family.

After being a pilot for nearly 10 years, West decided to take a break from piloting because he felt extremely burnt out and far from his family. So he went home and now, he’s currently a stay-at-home dad! He’s reconnecting with his daughter (who’s 22 now) to make up for all the lost time between them. While Tori and Beck are the breadwinners for the family.

This was around the time West was finally given the opportunity to fully reminisce of his younger years (yeah he finally realizes how freakin old he is....He tries his best to cope) when he participated in turf wars throughout middle school and high school. And one random day, he invites one of his old aircrew friends, whom he knew once played turf war, to play rainmaker! On that day, West’s love for turf war which he thought had been dead for years, was lit back up.

It wasn’t a while until West realised that ordinary turf war, just couldn’t cut it for him anymore. He was constantly over-powering younger casual players, that he felt a bit bad. He was well-known locally as the weird old guy who is freakishly good at turf war, it’s annoying! Doesn’t he have somewhere else to be?

Yeah he got treated the same way he was treated all the way back then after high school. Bullied by children this time. It might not seem like it but this constant torment really gets to West sometimes. It’s a good thing he has his family to lean on for support.

He couldn’t take this treatment over and over again. If this continued he would jump off a cliff. He had to do something for himself. This was when he asked his daughter for a favor. Vida wasn’t a turf war enthusiast, but! She had a lot of young people friends who would know something about turf war he didn’t. He needed an entirely different turf scene. One where he might be accepted.

To be honest, West was expecting something like- a club of middle-aged turf war enthusiasts or- a splatoon that consists of some guys who wouldn’t judge him for being older. SOMETHING NORMAL.

VIDA’S WEIRD FRIENDS GOT HIM  INTO AN ILLEGAL TURF WAR RING.

He was a bit reluctant at first but decided, hey, he's even more intrigued than scared! He followed them to the area of the UA battle that evening and didn't know what to expect.

It proved that he was SEVERELY UNPREPARED. It was a big shock how elaborately modified most of the players' weapons were. How much more ruthless and unapologetic they were. But that was what West found so appealing. He just had one of the most adrenaline-fueled quick paced turf battles in his life. He wanted more of that.

Around a decade later, West has officially retired from being a pilot and is now a full-time househusband. He spends most of his days spending time with his friends and family, taking care of himself, working on random projects in his garage, just all-around enjoying himself, and battling it out in illegal underground turf war rings!

It was an up-hill battle but he eventually found his footing in this chaotic place. He’s way more confident and free-spirited than he’s ever been in his life, and couldn’t ask for anything different. Of course, there’s always going to be annoying people who won’t leave him alone til’ he leaves, but he can always get along in his life by ignoring them and confiding in his family.

He still has some personal insecurities but for now, he’s pretty content with where his life is.

It bothers me that in game we basically call Felix's collections in his room weird and dont have the option to indulge him in his passions & hobbies so maybe something about that?? I just want to let him info dump to me

note from nia: real. maybe if mc let him rant and cry about a character death to them from a story they know nothing about for 30 minutes the same way my irls let me we wouldn't need to think of doing this!! That's literally how you make unbreakable bonds. ((here's a similar req which probably,, has repeated notes . ouaghhh))

it's such a loss that we can't have a scene for this since mc appreciating him for who he is is like,, a fundamental point for their relationship . you aren't going to let me indulge the man who wants to finally be indulged? come on

a love language. listening to what he's saying, asking questions, remembering facts days or weeks later, shocking him with a joke or reference randomly during the day

sometimes he trails off and starts apologizing for rambling (especially at the beginning of your friendship/relationship)

remind him that you love all of his info dumps and learning about him and he just 😳🙁❤️ before picking up where he left off

with every comment and question he realizes that you're serious and not doing it out of pity or manners and you can see him get more enthusiastic

not to self-project (maybe.) but imagining felix getting excited about certain things and sort of stuttering over his words because it's,, overwhelming y'know?

especially if your interests don't really align and you go out of your way to indulge him and take part . it's those extra steps that get him all mushy and appreciative—it shows him that you care !!

once he's confident in the fact that you really do like listening to him, he regularly comes to talk to you about new things that he's found or random thoughts

it goes from like,, hesitating and asking if you'd mind hearing about his thoughts to him opening your door and going straight into a ramble while you're sitting there folding laundry or something

asking him to teach you about taxidermy and he starts bouncing off the walls because a lot of people find it unnerving or gross and he doesn't get to talk about the cool aspects of it

he was probably scared of scaring you off with it so you taking initiative saves him so much grief and anxiety . especially if your vibe/aesthetic is super different

picking out different things you think he might enjoy and he gets all flustered like Me? you were thinking about Me?

asking him about his Provocative Tomes TM and he feels like he's going to die . he most definitely has strong opinions once you're able to convince him to talk though

i'm talking anything that's unrealistic, bad pacing, word choice, any dynamics done badly . just because the man is horny doesn't mean he has Poor Taste.

YOU CAUGHT ME! you're completely right about the girl, as well as naofumi's brother >:3c i have finally lined & colored these guys (aside from motoyasu's friend, kenichi) and i am gonna ramble about them now.

BUT. BEFORE I GO ON TANGENTS AGAIN I GOTTA SAY i would love to hear about nikko also, idk if you've posted much about him but <:3c i love and support whoever this russian boy is. an open sunshine-esque person i think would be an incredible foil for ren!! someone who's more outspoken and positive at the very least, haha. it's always super fun to work with and play around w/tropes imo i always have a good time. we are tailor-making ren a friend Right Now.

as for My Ren Friend™, this is Jun Sano (佐野純)!

a few months younger than Ren, yet a recent growth spurt put him at 191cm tall. he used to be much shorter just two years ago but it's funny what getting the proper nutrients will do for you

korean/japanese, but grew up in japan

family was immensely poor, ended up moving to ren's city for money in mid-middle school. met ren about the same time irl, but likely had known each other online before then. (tfw you grow up online)

used video games as escapism, but had a latent talent for them (MMORPGs in particular) and was able to monetize that. he and his family kind of depend on that money

jun is an extrovert and loves to meet new people. he reached out to ren first irl, though it'd be cute if ren tried to talk to jun online first. they kinda had a puppy love sorta thing at first w/some reciprocated admiration, then they got to know each other and actually started dating for real

jun loves ren's collected nature, intelligence and thoughtfulness, but also finds his occasional bashfulness really cute, so he tries to gently poke fun at him. ren meanwhile is flustered by but in admiration of how shamelessly jun can engage with things and just Get Stuff Done. ren thinks jun is incredibly cool and badass & wants to be like him.

likes to garden as a hobby, sneaks to the top of the school for this secret garden of his that he would often try to show ren as well.

likes to sneak around and climb on stuff in general. he's an incredibly energetic person—when VR isn't enough he will just start climbing walls irl and ren thinks that's AWESOME

debated on having him be trans? maybe his gaming career started really early (~12, 13, fuckin freak of nature prodigy i guess) and he was able to afford puberty blockers. Shrugging so hard

Ren survived a few days after saving Jun from getting attacked, but his health was already poor before taking the blow and his recovery was uncertain. Jun paid for all the medical expenses and forced himself to visit Ren in the hospital at least once—he felt immensely guilty about the whole thing. Ren was incredibly out of it but Jun told him that the criminal got arrested.

struggled with ren's eventual and apparent death but wasn't sure how to express his grief. i'd imagine jun's the type of person who'd bottle up particularly nasty/negative emotions—he's all about self-expression and being open, but when the emotion runs particularly deep he doesn't exactly know how to approach it, much less cope with it. so he'd initially throw himself into his work.

playing games that he used to play w/ren would be. a bit too much for him though. at a certain point he realized his performance was slipping and he had to quit (take a vacation from his job) while he was still ahead, popular, high-ranking, etc. thankfully his family is incredibly frugal (himself included), so he didn't have to worry too much about making ends meet while he took his break. he's been focusing more on his gardening, covertly sharing his harvests with his classmates in order to fill the void that ren left behind

oh damn i had a lot more on him than i thought i did. Oopsie., ANYWAYS

Aahana Chaudhuri (आहन ाचौधरी) was one of Itsuki's classmates, and in fact is one of the top students in his grade! We know the least about Itsuki's friend situation back in his world (he potentially. did not have any), so I figured anyone who was friendly towards him was likely engaging in a one-sided relationship.

17 years old, learned that she shares a birthday w/Itsuki and has not let him forget it since. 173cm tall

as a reminder! itsuki's world has superpowers in it (the wiki describes them as "supernatural abilities," i'm just gonna call them superpowers). not everyone is born w/them; as there are high schools designed w/superpowered kids in mind, they're likely present enough to be integrated into society. however, they're apparently uncommon enough as to where someone can be the one of the only superpowered people in an entire school...? OR, at the very least, being superpowered is uncommon enough to be considered special—but not so uncommon as to where having an ability at all will mean you're as "special" as everyone else with powers.

Aahana's power is "Hard Light Projection," where she can create objects of any shape out of light, drawing from the light she's previously absorbed. her power is pretty cost-effective however, to the point where standing in direct sunlight makes her essentially unstoppable. her hair's typically jet black, but when she's "fully charged" her hair starts to turn blue (shown above) and has an ambient glow.

family moved from india to japan before she was born. i can see her being the youngest or second youngest in the family, so her fam's been in japan for at least two decades?

aahana grew up in a similar boat itsuki did: she was surrounded by people without powers and thought she was special because of her own, but got her reality check much earlier (prolly right when she entered middle school, actually) by getting shown up by someone who was able to spar w/her without any powers. she's been a lot more humble of a person as a result

her classmates (particularly the ones in her homeroom) look down on her for being one of the strongest & most skilled students in the grade, yet going out of her way to interact with and befriend the "weakest" students. aahana means incredibly well: she thinks everyone deserves respect and the benefit of the doubt, and wants to give everyone a chance.

aahana convinced some bullies to leave itsuki alone before, but was surprised when his ire turned towards her for "fighting his own battles." she was Intrigued by this funny dude so she's been trying incredibly hard to befriend him ever since. itsuki didn't appreciate the "pity" (but was fond of having positive company).

itsuki reminds her of herself a lot, but he also has a conviction (a strong sense of justice) that she wished she had when she was growing up. seeing him try to stand up for himself against bullies really inspired her—something she's admitted to him before, and something that boggles Itsuki's mind (as, to him, she's "little miss perfect")

Aahana really thought she and Itsuki were finally getting along. They were finally having amicable conversations, hanging out in places, Itsuki even got to meet some of her own friends (his own homeroom classmates). Then she said something that set him off, and Itsuki blew up at her again and stormed off. She kept her distance from him the next day, but resolved to apologize and make it up to him as the day drew to a close.

Before Aahana could even get Itsuki's attention on the way home, she saw him get hit by a truck.

the next few days at school were incredibly rough. aahana regretted not being a good enough friend to him to avoid the tragedy. of course, life is hardly ever fair, is it?

help me his pouting is going to make me laugh. holy fuckigng shit. anyways. here's the epitome of all edgy fringe-canon OCs i've ever made i guess, Shinsuke Iwatani (岩谷伸介), Naofumi's little broTHER,

16 years old and it's hard not to see it. his anime hair is deliberate on his part and i'm going to cry about it

has sectoral heterochromia in his right eye (our left): his eyes are brown, but his right eye has a speck of green to the side of it. i miiiight change it to central heterochromia but idk for sure.

actually not as edgy & rude as he looks—at least, when the situation calls for it. around those older than him and/or people he respects, shinsuke is actually pretty soft-spoken, mild-mannered, and even overtly formal. when he's feeling particularly shy (which is a good amount of the time), he's the same way, though not as stilted in his formalities. he's perfectly capable of being "proper," even though he expresses his true self more openly through his dress nowadays.

his code-switching game is insane. around friends, people around his age, and outright strangers (so no conception of how he should behave around them), he's more foul-mouthed and he lets his short temper show. shinsuke is very passionate and prefers to give people a piece of his mind whenever he can.

simultaneously is still somewhat jealous of naofumi's position in life (being a mostly carefree college student w/not as many expectations on his head), and views naofumi as his straight up hero. naofumi called out his phase for what it was (a phase), but still strongly supported it and his self-expression anyways. in his words, "it doesn't matter how long this lasts. you could be 30 and still present yourself like this. but as long as it makes you feel like yourself, then that's a good thing."

he got his ears pierced as a way to Stick It To The Man (his parents) and they raised a huge ruckus about it. naofumi asked him if that was something he actually wanted, and it was the first time shinsuke actually began to contemplate how much he was rebelling out of spite and how much he was actually being suppressed/repressed. he didn't wear his piercings for a bit while he thought about it.

...and then he decided he wanted MORE. (naofumi thought that was really funny and helped him get a septum piercing)

shinsuke doesn't actually like to be rude all the time, but feels like it's the best way he can express himself. (shinsuke is a pretty sweet & considerate kid, actually! he's just not the best at wording things. sort of like a certain older brother of his... but honestly shinsuke would be better at conveying emotional ideas/sticking up for himself than naofumi might)

won't admit it but he loves kemonomimi so much. he particularly loves dogboys. naofumi has a feeling he might but hasn't found the opportunity to tease him about it yet

he's so smart. we need to emphasize that this is a smart, well-read boy. he graduated top of his prep school and he's at a prestigious high school now. do not forget these facts. otaku power

probably still tries to visit his brother whenever he can, if only to hang out more and do otaku stuff with him. ever since naofumi's interference, the entire iwatani family has been getting along a lot better and shinsuke has felt more comfortable expressing himself around his parents. but also, Damn, he just wants to talk about the latest anime he saw with his brother.

Recently, he's heard that his brother hasn't been going to his classes. Shinsuke is going to ask him about it the next time they meet (since Naofumi got on him for being truant before...)

i will. finish the rest of him later. but here's Motoyasu's good friend, Kenichi Murakami (村上兼一). i actually have the most on him but i tried to keep things relatively brief. i have been thinking about him so much.

since i didn't finish his whole sketch thing, here's the bits of info usually included: 22 years old, 178cm (5'10").

in the same university as motoyasu, shares a lot of the same classes with him. they both live in the dorms, but they're in different apartments

VERY much an art student. in an illustrator path, particularly pursuing painting and landscape art. he dabbles a bit in architectural art as well, he is very close to his charcoal

mom is a mail-order bride from the philippines and that's. a whole thing. he has a TON of respect for his mom and not as much for his dad, though their marriage nowadays has reciprocated love in it.

childhood friends with motoyasu. they met under some extenuating circumstances (motoyasu's family was undergoing some legal stuff, as was kenichi's own), but they quickly got attached and started hanging out whenever they could, doing normal boy things together.

was essentially considered part of motoyasu's family considering how often kenichi would spend time with them. got to know motoyasu's uncle and younger cousins thoroughly well, even more than his own father in some respects

considered a bit of a casanova in the circles he's in, though that's because in high school he started cultivating that persona for himself since he and his buddies were trying to score chicks. regrets the reputation—kenichi didn't feel great pulling shit on girls just to get dates, and would start to actually connect and relate to some of the girls he initially saw as "quick lays" and such. motoyasu actually criticized his methods of picking up girls when kenichi first described them, too: if he's gonna go through all this trouble, why not just get to know the girl?

ended up befriending a lot of those girls actually lmao. he's still great friends with a lot of them and ended up helping them find fulfilling relationships, or at least set up pleasant dates. i can see him being a bit of a matchmaker lmao

pretty empathic dude, was also motoyasu's brain cell. always thought through the implications of his actions and behavior (especially once he graduated high school) and tried to cultivate his actions to make the world around him a better place. has always been a tad fussy about his presentation to others—wants to be his honest self, but also wants his "honest self" to be someone he can be proud of. would be described by many to have great judgement, although he'd sometimes be a tad overcritical.

kenichi worried about motoyasu a lot, to the point where they both questioned why. the two have always tried to look out for each other—kenichi helping motoyasu consider his actions, motoyasu helping kenichi actually act rather than stand on the sidelines—but ever since he became closer friends with momiji, kenichi became more alert and paranoid. he didn't think motoyasu and momiji had a healthy relationship, as motoyasu always had a bit of a savior complex that momiji fed into.

wasn't a big fan of ikuyo either, but the two could get along from time to time. when she tried to get closer to motoyasu, however, she tried going through kenichi first: his kneejerk reaction was annoyance and disgust, something he tried to apologize for immediately after. ikuyo, however, threatened to kill him, so he gave up on that pretty quickly.

(the subtext is that kenichi is in love with motoyasu and had been trying to all but outright tell him for over a YEAR. he figured motoyasu just wasn't ready to talk about that stuff yet and didn't pry—the other girls still saw him as competition, however, one he didn't want to participate in)

Accidental witness to Momiji's suicide, though he was too late to witness her double homicide. Refuses to elaborate on the scene he saw aside from in testimony and therapy.

helped out motoyasu's uncle with funeral arrangements and getting everything settled and worked out. had a breakdown in the middle of it all and eventually was diagnosed with OCD. has been doing his damnedest to cope, he has his good and bad days
