SQQ as an unreliable narrator is so interesting because sometimes he’s clearly wrong and missing things, but sometimes he’s just so fixated on the original plot of the novel, which is clearly not happening here, except often it does? The System just keeps trying to push certain key events from canon, which really gives SQQ a leg up in terms of having future knowledge but does get in the way of him getting a clue about, say, it’s not that everyone wants to fuck LBH, it’s that you specifically do.
#idk if this is from dr who or a standard time travel thing but sometimes you have a time travel plot with a concept of fixed points?#actually maybe this is from connie willis now that I think about it#anyways there clearly are fixed points in the pidw plot (the abyss being the most obvious one but also sqq keeps recognizing monsters etc)#but sqq thinks that the wives are fixed points and they are so very obviously (to a reader) not gonna happen#sqq isn't *stupid* and he's not lacking in genre savvy he's just convinced himself of some wrong facts#uh this was specifically about#How could this happen to Luo Binghe? If he wanted to force himself on someone who wouldn’t obediently spread their legs?!#which is in#fantl chapter 47#liveblogging the scum one
