One of my favorite headcannons is that Tim is the only white person of the batkids and they all tease him relentlessly
Because Dick is Roma, Jason is racially ambiguous, Damian is Arab, Cass is half-chinese, and Duke is black
This leaves Tim, white as a ghost, looks like a lobster every summer Tim
And they WILL NOT LEAVE HIM ALONE
Jason, who made dinner that night: Dont worry tim, theres only salt and pepper on yours, i know you cant handle spice
Tim: I am going to stab you.
Playing some kind of horror game and a huge crash happens
Damian: Drake! Go investigate.
Tim: WHY ME???
Duke: Cus thats some white people shit
The amount of times the phrase “is it because im (insert race)” gets said to Tim in a day should be logged
#yes i know steph isnt on this list#but shes more of a batkid in-law in my mind#however she is desi and also teases tim#(ik shes not desi in canon. thats why its a headcanon. let ppl have fun.#these are all loosly based on things my poc friends have said to me#batman#batfam#jason todd#tim drake#cassandra wayne#dick grayson#damian wayne#dc robin#batfamily headcanons

Ooooh, Inevitable Psychodrama sounds interesting 👀👀
This fic is so-named because it started out as a short little one-shot that I came up with to lay out what I think would actually happen in the case of the common fanfic trope where one of the Batkids is interrogated for Batman's name. It was just supposed to be me thinking about what kind of contingencies they'd have in place for that. But then, inevitably, it grew into a much bigger, darker, twistier story about Nightwing and the interrogator both trying to play mind-games on each other. Thus: Inevitable Psychodrama.
Anyway, a snippet:
“He’s a nuisance,” Sionis says. “He used to be Robin. He’s based out of Blüdhaven, but he still shows up in Gotham to make my life difficult often enough.” “What about the Blockbuster thing?” “What about it?” “Do you think he really killed him?” Marguerite says. Not that she particularly trusts Sionis’s judgment, but he does have his ear closer to the ground of Blüdhaven’s organized crime than she does. “Bats don’t do that,” Sionis says, as if it were a law of nature and not just a rule that could be broken like any other. “But he was definitely on the scene when Desmond was shot. Anyone can tell you that.” Marguerite watches Nightwing measure the perimeter of the white room with his footsteps. Is he a killer? It seems like a more interesting mystery than the Batman’s name. And one way or another, it’s a weak spot.

Reread the webtoon My In-laws Are Obsessed With Me and I only want to take the cursed blood and slam it on the batfamily. For all of it to make sense it would have to be a no capes au.
Thomas and Martha unknowingly unleash a curse upon Gotham that didn't begin until they died and paid with their blood. Their killer took a bit more time with Bruce and punched him across the jaw making blood spill from his lips. Bruce sees his hand reaching for him again and just lunges at it. Sinks his teeth thoroughly into his hand making the man scream and pulling him away to throw at the ground. The man pulls out his gun and aims only to drop it and Bruce watches as he claws at his chest and writhed while choking on his pain until he stills. And so Bruce is the first to gain the cursed blood.
Obviously they (Bruce and Alfred) don't know at first that Bruce's blood is toxic. They find out when Alfred forces Bruce to spend some time outside and a squirrel catches his attention. Against Alfred's wishes, and while he went inside for a moment, he holds out his hand with a nut that the squirrel quickly eats. It checks his hand for another and finding nothing it just bites him. He yelps as he pulls his hand away to look at, but movement catches his eye and he looks up to see the squirrel shaking on the ground and then stop. It reminds him of that night and he's crying when he turns around and there's Alfred who crouched down to hold him, but keeps a hand around his wrist to keep at a distance.
To make sure of what he saw Alfred catches various bugs and small animals to test with Bruce's blood. All died. He tells Bruce and from there they make sure to hide it from all. He teaches him how to defend himself, how to keep others at a distance, and dress in fully covering clothes and gloves. Years pass.
Alfred has gotten into the habit to keep an eye out for entertainment and such that can be partaken from afar to go with Bruce. The circus is in town and his boy has time for the last day of it.
After this my mind just bounces around with the fact that each of the batkids get cursed blood before they come to Bruce. Because after laying dormant for a while the curse comes out and affects one person in Gotham then the next. Just speeding up after Jason and then laying quiet for a long time until Terry and Matt.
I want them traumatized so maybe Dick, Jay, Tim, Steph and Duke are the cause of their parents death. Barbara being an outlier and getting cursed blood after getting paralyzed as an adult and kidnapped with a Wayne (Jay I'm looking at you). Cass being found after she's been using her blood as a tool to survive the streets and hates that she does. Damian joining the family and not having cursed blood at first. They find out when he had a small cut on the palm of his hand that Ace licked and he watches the dog die in front of him and his family.
For the sake of my heart this is an isolated batfam idea. Meaning the only ones not affected by cursed blood are others with it. They only have each other because they at least know they can't die because of them. And they don't suffer from their blood so no random seizures because their own blood hurts them too.
#batfam#isolated batfam#batfamily#tw animal death#it could also easily be a dark batfam au considering how obsessed they can be about each other#and so willing to kill others who hurt them so they won't lose one of the few people they can be close to#bruce wayne is fighting with everything he has against both those facts#and I'm having a mean thought about Dick who tried going out and becoming best friends with Wally#only to be the reason for his death 😔#a cautionary tale for his siblings#and yes Jason doesn't die in this au#he just gets maimed#solidarity through suffering for this family#bruce wayne#dick grayson#jason todd#tim drake#cassandra cain#stephanie brown#damian wayne#duke thomas#barbara gordon

Mentally, I was like, someone write me a fic where Bruce didn’t become Batman, he became a doctor like his father instead. He still meets all the Batkids, but just under different circumstances. I am not qualified to write doctor things, but I got to thinking about what said circumstances might be, and I didn’t want it all to just be, kid got a broken limb must go to the hosital, gets treated by Bruce ~boring~ So, I’m doing this thing this week, where I’m trying to practice writing every day, and to make it even more challenging because I hate my face, I also decided I would double my word count from the previous day’s...every day. The problem with this, is that I’m really bad at short stories, and also really bad at having ideas. Especially, apparently, for original writing. So I’ve fallen back into writing some old fanfic ideas. Except for today, when I had the above mentioned *new* fanfic idea.
Disclaimer: I am not a doctor or psychiatrist and should not be writing doctor or psychiatrist characters. I am also not ten years old, and have not been ten for over a decade, and contrary to popular belief, working with ten year olds, has not prepared me to accurately portray ten year olds in fiction. Don’t judge me too harshly. I’ve mentally developed an entire back-story for Bruce, but details may be fuzzy in the actual piece. I reached the word count goal even though the story is not finished. In my head, I’m imagining one chapter per batkid’s first encounter with Bruce, but this encounter is not even over yet. It’s 4am and I should be sleeping. Will I be adding more to this? Potentially, though I’m sure it will be wildly inaccurate medically speaking, so everyone just be prepared for that. If I *do* add more to it, I’ll probably post it to AO3 rather than here. If I can come up with a title.
[I know I haven’t been on tumblr in literal Years, but didn’t there used to be the option of adding a line between paragraphs? did I dream that? is it still there? am I not seeing it? wot]
Bruce entered the room somewhat hesitantly. Richard Grayson was already seated in the armchair. He sat upright, with his hands clasped in his lap, literally twiddling his thumbs. He looked up, visibly swallowing, eyes wide as saucers, when Bruce came in.
Bruce smiled as disarmingly as he could. He cleared his throat, shutting the door tightly and crossing the floor, intensely aware of Richard’s eyes on him. The boy watched him sit down on the couch opposite, but waited no longer for Bruce to either collect himself or start the conversation. He shifted in his seat, leaning forward; demanding Bruce’s full attention. “They said I have to talk to you,” he started, shaking his head slightly. “But I don’t really need to – I’m fine.” He nodded once, firmly. “Honest.”
Bruce’s smile had slipped, a pensive expression replacing it as he eyed the child. He was nearly tempted to lean back in his seat, put a hand to his chin and squint intently at the ten year old as though he were an x-ray or a test result in need of careful examination. Bruce caught himself at the thought. It wouldn’t do. At best, he’d scare off the boy, at worse, Richard would think he wasn’t taking him seriously, and he didn’t want to be there any more than Richard supposedly did. ‘Supposedly,’ because, Bruce suspected, the boy very much wanted to speak to someone, he just didn’t know who to speak to. As far as Richard was concerned, he had no family left. The adults presently in his life were there by necessity, as the law dictated, and not because they cared for him or wanted to help him (even if some of them did). He did not trust them and could not make himself vulnerable in front of them by confiding his true feelings, or letting this carefully cultivated mask, slip.
Bruce had done much the same thing after—
His parents.
Only, he’d had Alfred, in addition. The mask was easy to slip on when he needed to go to school or return to a life of functions and public appearances. He still wore it even now, decades later; for work, social functions, interviews—the list went on. It was nearly without burden to wear, because, it could always come off. Richard, however, did not have an ‘Alfred’ or a home, anymore, where he could remove the mask and be himself for a little while without fearing the scrutiny of others, or his own frailty.
“Hm.” Bruce took a moment to shift into a more comfortable position, and gather his thoughts in the process. He hadn’t needed to be a psychiatrist in such a long time that he doubted for a moment where to begin in approaching this situation. “That’s good,” he said agreeably. “I was asked to speak with you, because Miss Lance is concerned about your well-being.”
“Well, she doesn’t need to be,” Richard replied, his movements still indicative of nervousness, but…also impatience. “Like I said, I’m fine. So I don’t need to be here. Sorry for wasting your time.” He looked about ready to jump out of his seat and bolt from the room, but…not, Bruce thought, because he was afraid of the conversation. He didn’t want to be confronted with his feelings, but, there was more to his eagerness to leave.
“It’s only an hour,” Bruce dismissed. “And, Miss Lance is a good friend I don’t mind doing a favour for. Not to mention, she cares very deeply for the children under her charge. You’re lucky to have her.”
Richard’s shoulders seemed to drop slightly. He huffed with impatience, but responded as meekly as he had been, “Yeah. She’s been real nice.” He paused briefly, before continuing more keenly, as though a new approach had made itself known to him in the moment. “Which is why I don’t want to be wasting her time. I should go.”
“I’m afraid you can’t,” Bruce said mildly. “Miss Lance had another appointment; she had to leave. She’ll be back when our hour is up.” Bruce smiled at the boy, whose timid demeanor had slowly crumbled into one of barely concealed annoyance.
“I’ll just wait for her downstairs, then,” Richard said, holding Bruce’s gaze with a much steadier look than when Bruce had arrived.
Bruce kept his smile as serene as possible, “That’s not how it works, Richard,” he said gently.
“Dick.”
Bruce recoiled, not having expected such a candid delivery of something so inappropriate. “Excuse me?” he asked, much more sternly than he’d spoken thus far.
It was Richard’s turn to look taken aback. “I mean – me – it’s, I’m—er—” he fumbled, flustered, and looked away as he cleared his throat to answer properly, “That’s just, what people call me. It’s ‘Dick,’ not…‘Richard.’”
“Ah,” Bruce said, enlightened. “I see. Miss Lance didn’t mention…”
“She insists on calling me ‘Richard,’” he said, crossing his arms, posture slumping.
“Well, if you insist,” Bruce said. “I’ll call you ‘Dick.’”
Dick glanced at him; nodded. “Okay.”
“Until Miss Lance gets back, you and I may as well chat a little,” Bruce continued. “To pass the time.”
Dick sighed, resigned to his fate, apparently. He leaned back in the armchair, eyes on the wall. “Sure.”
“Miss Lance has been treating you well?” Bruce began.
Dick eyed him, and nodded.
“The other staff…caretakers at the orphanage,” Bruce continued slowly. “They’ve taken good care of you?”
Dick nodded again, shrugging with one shoulder. “Yeah, sure. I…have a bed, and food. It’s fine.”
“What about the other boys? Have you made any friends yet?”
Dick frowned at the floor, his crossed arms pressing tighter to his chest, “They’re fine,” he lied.
“Hm,” Bruce was frowning himself, his thoughts already turning toward how he might confront Miss Lance and the orphanage Director – about visiting the institution, perhaps, so as to observe Dick’s social circumstances firsthand before stepping any further— Absently, Bruce shook his head free of the thought. He was getting carried away again. “I…” he began, in an effort to get himself back on track, but he didn’t actually know what to say even as he started speaking. He looked over at Dick, the boy watching him with a guarded, squint-eyed expression. “I’m sorry,” Bruce said. “I was just thinking of…” He shifted, and started over, “I used to speak to children all the time. It was my job. Children like you and I, sometimes,” he gestured between them, allowing himself to be as honest as possible. “Who…lost their families without warning, without…being able to do anything about it—”
“I didn’t lose my family,” Dick cut in, the young boy’s tone almost…scathing. Bruce had meant to steer the conversation into a specific direction, meaning to coax Dick into confiding in him the specifics of his relationships with the other boys at the orphanage, but, Dick had derailed his entire scheme with this interruption. “We weren’t in a crowd and I let go of their hands and couldn’t see them anymore.” Bruce’s head was clearer than it had been when he’d started on his tangent. Though thoughts of his own parents, his own loss, crept at the fringes of his mind, they were kept at bay by the need to listen to this young boy, whose loss was much more present, much more potent and all-consuming, even as he claimed fineness.
“Then?” Bruce prodded, when Dick’s gaze shifted from him almost abruptly, and affixed once more to the wall instead. As though the mask had shifted to reveal some bare skin for a moment, and the boy was determined to cover it once more as though nothing had happened. “What do you call it?” Bruce paused for a reply, but added, when none was immediately forthcoming, “What happened to your family, Dick?”
The boy pulled his legs up toward his chest, shoes on the seat cushion. He sunk impossibly lower into the chair. “They…” he began quietly, just when Bruce assumed there’d be no answer after all, “Were taken from me.”
“Hm,” Bruce said, which prompted Dick’s gaze back toward him.
“You don’t believe me either,” the boy accused with a glare.
“That’s not what I said,” Bruce replied quickly. “I’m only wondering what exactly you mean by that. ‘Taken’ from you? Your parents fall, Dick,” he said gently, “Was an accident.”
Dick clicked his tongue and looked resentfully away again, “No. It wasn’t.”
He said no more, and, for a moment, Bruce allowed the silence to linger. “If this is true, Dick…what you’re suggesting is – your parents were murdered.” Dick made no reply and didn’t look over to Bruce either. The boy was keeping his guard up. This was the moment, Bruce thought. This was the way to win Dick’s confidence and trust. Every adult he’d confided in with this belief had rejected him. Ascribed his suspicions to the insurmountable grief of a small child not mature enough to navigate it sensibly, thereby desperately needing an explanation that made his parents death seem less random, leading him to invent a fantasy with a villain some hero could fight against as in a cartoon or comic book, to help him cope. An all-consuming idea he’d started to believe in so passionately, the reality was no longer a palpable option for him and anyone who could not agree, was not on his side.
This is why Miss Lance had wanted Bruce to see Dick. This was the trouble he was having. Why he wasn’t allowing himself to be supported by the new people in his life. Why he refused to adjust to his present circumstances. His parents’ death had gone unavenged. He believed there was justice to be paid, but no one would pay it.
Bruce…could relate.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s JASON TODD/RED HOOD, an ANTIHERO from DC! HE is TWENTY FOUR years old and look an awful lot like AVAN JOGIA. I hear that they work as a SORT OF MERCENARY. Rumor has it they were AGAINST the Accords and ARE NOT registered under the new laws. I wonder what they’ll find with their new beginning!
That gif is jason at all of his family tbh if you haven’t seen ghost wars avan basically has a jason mood and i’m loving it
hello this is my first jason attempt please bare with me !
Background ;;
Jason grew up in crime alley. His father was a criminal and was killed by one of Two-Face’s men, his mother was a drug addict who died of an overdose. Jason was left orphaned and alone as a child, and had to resort to crime to survive
He had the bright idea of trying to boost the batmobile’s wheels and unfortunately got caught by the Bat himself
Bats took him to a school being run by Ma Gunn in hopes he would be reformed but Jason uncovered the illegal activities going on there and escaped. When he was found again by Batman Jason explained was was going on, and helped Bruce take Ma Gunn in for her crimes
It was then, at age 12, that Jason was adopted by Bruce and made the next Robin
After 6 months of training he was able to go out into the field with Bruce, but as time went on it was obvious he was much more impulsive and reckless, borderline ruthless with the criminals they were dealing with. He struggled with the expectation to be like the first Robin, which just made him that much more determined to make his own way in the role
Jason’s anger and reckless ways eventually lead to the death of a criminal, for which he was grounded as Robin for a time. During this time he found out his biological mother was still alive, and not the woman he had known as a child, and set off to find her, tracking the clues to the middle east. At the same time, Bruce was tracking a trail to the Joker which lead to the same place, and they were able to stop a bombing set up by the Joker but didn’t catch the man himself
They continued on the trail to find Jason’s mother and, eventually, located her. It was all a ruse though, a trap set by Joker - he had blackmailed Jason’s mother and when Jason spotted him he followed Joker and his mother to a warehouse
In trying to save his mother Jason was captured, tied up, and brutally beaten with a crowbar by Joker, before a bomb was planted in the warehouse and Jason and his mother were left to die. Despite Jason’s attempts to untie her and find an escape, the bomb went off before they could do so, and both were killed before Bruce could arrive
Thanks to some reality-shifting, Jason was brought back to life while still in his coffin in the ground, forcing him to claw his way out of his own grave in order to survive his new resurrection, but collapsed and was hospitalised. After a year in a coma, Talia Al Ghul found him and intended to nurse him back to health
Unfortunately the damage was too extensive for Jason to fully return to the way he was, so in a last ditch attempt Talia immersed him in the Lazarus Pit, resurrecting him fully
Upon learning (from Talia) that his death has gone unavenged, Jason’s rage and trauma of his brutal murder drove him to learn and advance his skills in firearms and weapons, poisons and antitoxins, bomb making, and god knows what else so he can confront and kill Batman for letting his death go unavenged, and the new Robin for replacing him
Eventually Jason returned to Gotham with a new mantle - the Red Hood. He began taking control of criminal gangs and rising up in Gotham’s underworld, revealing himself to Bruce - who had no idea he was alive until that point - and generally just... letting his rage drive his decisions. He was a mess.
He’s come and gone to Gotham a number of times - Gotham is his home, he doesn’t want to and can’t let it go. He’s tried to kill Dick, Tim, and Bruce more than a few times in the early days. As time has gone on and Jason has learned to deal with his anger he’s come to terms with Bruce and the others - though he’s not sure he’ll ever feel like he’s part of the family anymore, seeing himself as more of the black sheep
During some of his stints away he’s pulled together the “Outlaws” - first with Roy and Koriand’r, then with Bizzaro and Artemis, usually working towards unravelling some kind of underground criminal group or plot. Ultimately everything leads him back to Gotham though, one way or another.
Look i left a lot of specific stuff out of this because Jason’s got a long history so please feel free to hit me up for any specific backstory stuff !
Good/Important To Know ;;
Jason uses guns. A lot of guns. He has no problem with guns. Always has two handguns with him, and also has a sword as part of his standard attire at the moment
He’s currently sporting the new Red Hood look and has the grey streak up front in his hair because of the Lazarus Pit
He has a much more brutal version of justice, he’s definitely not below killing criminals who deserve it. He tries not to kill when Bruce is around, and doesn’t kill in Gotham on Bruce’s request - his attempt at an olive branch, really. Otherwise? As far as Jason’s concerned criminals who hurt innocent people are fair game
In terms of where he is with the family - it’s been a few years (since Tim was Robin, probably think around when Bruce died and Dick took over with Damian as Robin) since Jason was trying to kill the family. He’s come to terms with things - not necessarily forgiven everything, but he’s okay with Bruce and the others now. In saying that he’s aware that most of the Batkids don’t like him or approve of how he operates - he will avoid them wherever possible purely just because he doesn’t have the capacity to deal with that
Jason has a dog - she’s a very protective dog Jason took in and he calls her Dog. He figures it’s as good a name as any. He loves her a lot though.
Jason is ridiculously rich - he’s done a decent amount of time as a Merc and is currently working as one now so he works for a lot of money. He doesn’t splash out the way Bruce and the family do but he has plenty of money stashed away.
There’s still a lot of anger built up inside Jason - but he’s learned to deal with it. He’s much more pragmatic and logical now, but in a fight you’ll see his brutality come out
He’s very sassy and sarcastic, very walled off and it takes a bit to let anyone in. Even with people he’s close with, there’s always a sense of armour - but those are the people who probably don’t mind it so much. He’s not really here for showing his vulnerabilities.
In a hand-to-hand fight, there’s a good chance Jason can kick your ass. He’s trained with the best and most brutal of them, he worked with Talia Al Ghul for a decent stint of time not to mention having years of experience behind him, and he’s not afraid to fight dirty. Don’t underestimate him.

Anonymous said: 1) What are the good comics to read for Batfamily stuff (from any point in time) and 2) what are the best Jason Todd comics? Thanks!
Okay for Jason I would definitely start with the big ones, which are A Death In the Family and Under the Red Hood. After that you could try Red Hood: the Lost Days and Countdown to Final Crisis. I would avoid the n52 series until you have a good enough grasp of the character to recognize bad writing when you see it.
For the generalized batfam.... that’s pretty broad. My personal favorites are Red Robin, Batgirl (2009), and both B&R series. If you have more specific questions, you should IM me! I promise I’m better about answering those than asks

Anonymous said: can you maybe write an interaction between Wonder Woman and Captain America? I absolutely adore your style and would love to see your take on it.
Hmmmm I don’t really have a good enough grasp of Captain America’s characterization to try that one :////

daziy said: Do we know who Barbara's mother usually is?
Yeah! In her original version, Babs had a birth mom and an adopted mom. She was originally Jim’s niece, so her birth mom’s name was Thelma Gordon. After the adoption, her parents were Jim and Barbara Gordon, with her adopted mother being her namesake. So two Barbara Gordons.
I think for awhile the canon was that her mother died in a car crash, but the current version has her still alive. She left Jim when Babs was young, taking her son (Babs’s brother) with her. James Gordon (the son) turned out to be a serial killer.
Barbara Gordon Sr. and James Gordon Jr. both appeared in the n52 Batgirl series during the Death of the Family arc. There’s also a very good story about James from the Dickbats period. That one’s called The Black Mirror, if I’m not mistaken?
Anonymous said: Hi! What do you think of the upcoming metal event? Dick and Damian seem to have a big role in it ( I hope Jason is involved too but there's still no sign of it)
Hmmmm I don’t know that I have an opinion just yet, but as always, I hope to be pleasantly surprised
Anonymous said: bless you are your wonderful tagging system. know that i may have avoided death because of how easy it was to f ind the thing I wanted in your tags. bless
Oh goodness anon I hope you’re not serious about almost dying.... but thanks?
Anonymous said: hi amy! would u say that damians narrative is written as a child abuse one? like there are definitely many allusions to it but its also not as explicit as say, cassandra or rose. like how much of it would u chalk up to comic world dynamics and how much to actual abuse? also would u consider jason to also be a case of this?
Oh I have very strong opinions about the role of abuse in Damian’s narrative. It’s absolutely there, and the effects are staggeringly large. There is no doubt in my mind that the league was an abusive environment, and I can’t justify some of the things Bruce did either.
I think I would say the same thing for Jason, if not quite as strongly. I definitely think that some of the things that happened to Jason as a child shaped his story later on, but less of those were abuse than outside circumstances. The n52 takes a different track on that one, I think, but I don’t put much stock in that characterization.
Anonymous said: has jason forgiven bruce for not killing joker? if so, what made him?
Unlikely. They get along better these days, but I would argue that comes from poor characterization of Bruce, not an actual resolution process.
