Ken Comfort Headcanons
Ken x reader
Summary and warnings: a few headcanons of Ken being supportive when you’re in need of comfort. It’s Ken, so that does sometimes cross over into him being a little... obsessive. Also, I’ve tried to leave this ambiguous as to the time and setting so it’s up to how you want to read it! Includes mentions of kisses.
I originally posted this to my main blog but I'm re-posting all my work here to have everything in one place due to an unresolved tagging issue on my main
He tries SO hard when he knows you've had a bad day because he can't stand the thought of you feeling anything other than as perfect as he thinks you are
Will give you space but is never far away, usually watching from a distance just incase you need something he can provide
He’s so soft and gentle with you, brushing your hair while he tells you all the things he loves most about you to give you a boost
The list of compliments is long and far from exhaustive; he rarely gives you the same compliment twice and never runs out of new ones
Truly excellent at pep talks if you need one
Holds your face in his palms and looks deep into your eyes to tell you some variation of how sublime or brave or wonderful or kind you are, hoping you’ll believe him and trying to send some positive Kenergy straight to you via his intense gaze
‘Would you like to go for a walk? You can hold my hand…’
Of course, he walks you to the beach (after taking a moment to compose himself at the hand holding) to watch the sunset together
If you squeeze his hand he giggles or let’s out a delighted little ‘Ooh!’
After finding the perfect place to sit together on the sand, he lights a little fire to get cosy beside, smiling at you all the while, and asks, ‘Do you want to talk about it? Or you can just rest with me if that’s what you need?’
Either way, it ends with you laid together on the sand with you resting on his chest, listening to the soothing sounds of his heartbeat and steady breathing
You feel so safe and content with his strong arms wrapped around your shoulders and his fingers playing lovingly with your hair
There’s no rush. He’s content for you to remain silent or take all the time you need in talking to him. He really has all the time in the world for you
It makes his heart race a little to be so close with you, but he contains the feelings it stirs within him so that he can focus entirely on you
Does give you tender little kisses at least every five minutes though, just to remind you how wanted you are
He’s such a good listener. He usually hangs on your every word, but at times like these, it's not just that. When you need him, he is so supportive and always surprises you with new perspectives on whatever is bothering you
If you tell Ken a secret he will guard that secret with his life (but he may flex on some other Kens that you confide in him. He would be really proud of that)
When you begin to feel tired, he will walk you back home, eagerly offering his hand again. He always hopes you’ll invite him inside and to sleep over, but his main priority tonight is helping you feel yourself again
‘Would you like me to come in and read to you?’
He doesn’t so much read as look at pictures with you and excitedly read out the bits he thinks are most exciting, but his heart is in the right place and it warms yours to know that he wants to spend his free time making you feel better and not just vying for your attention
Makes you tea and tucks you in even if he’s not staying over, with one final kiss to your forehead before he departs
‘I’m your Ken no matter what.’
Literally does not sleep. Worries all night that you might not have sweet dreams or will wake feeling anything other than great
Will be back first thing in the morning with breakfast already made and a hot bath drawn for you, ready for when you wake up to make sure you’re off to a perfect start the next day

So a theory I've developed that I surprisingly haven't seen anywhere else on the internet (by which I mean here on Tumblr bc I'm not actually anywhere else on the internet these days) is this:
Will Ferrell's character. The Mattel CEO.
This guy. This guy is a Ken who wandered into the real world and stayed there.
Think about it. Despite being framed as very much the villain of the story (at least the part in the Real World), the CEO never has any aggression toward Barbie. He wants her to go back to Barbieland because he's concerned for the ramifications to both realms if she doesn't. When they meet in person he is awed and respectful and-- dare I say it-- understanding of what she's been through since she came to the Real World. He isn't surprised when she doesn't know how to drink real water. He never threatens or commands her. He suggests she get back in the box so she can go home, but even when she evades and asks to go to the bathroom first, he lets her go without question. Because why would he ever question Barbie?
Even when Barbie escapes and the executives are chasing her through the building, the CEO comes face-to-face with her at one point, but does he grab her? No. She screams, and he screams, and they both keep running in opposite directions.
That feels like Kenergy, but maybe that's just me.
Also, he knows how to get to and from Barbieland. I can see how maybe, if it's something that can happen, Mattel executives might get briefed on the possibility of a Barbie entering the Real World and what to do if it happens, but I can't imagine the particulars of the journey itself are common knowledge. Yet this guy knows it immediately.
ALSO also, the bit that sticks out in my mind is his conversation with the other executives as they start making their way to Barbieland (which is now transforming into Kendomland). When they hear about the success of the Mojo Dojo Casa House playsets and the new Ken movie and everything that's changing, he's upset. The other executives even say, "what does it matter if we're still making money?" and he has his whole mini-rant about how that's not the point. He's not in this for the money, he's in it for the little girls, and the imagination, and the power that Barbie should have. Now, that doesn't sound like the opinion of an (admittedly bumbling) executive in the otherwise painfully accurate Real World. It sounds more like a holdover of a Ken's ingrained adoration of Barbie and everything she represents.
Not to mention that Allan explains to Gloria and Sasha (when he's trying to convince them to take him with them to the Real World) that others have left Barbieland and stayed in the Real World. At the time, he's referring specifically to Allans, but who's to say it couldn't happen to a Ken? In the original order of things, Kens aren't much more important than Allans, and might be equally unlikely to shift either world in a noticeable way. And if a Ken did manage to wander into the Real World, is it such a stretch to think he might have had a similar patriarchy awakening as the Ken we know, and also ended up at Mattel (like Barbie did), but instead of being captured, he could have talked his way into a position there (thanks, patriarchy) and worked his way up from there?
And he knows there are no real weapons in Barbieland. And I'm pretty sure he's the only man in the Real World (including Ken) we ever see wearing iconic Barbie pink. And, in the end, he's just happy things got back to normal and he's willing to give Barbie whatever ending she wants.
Anyway, thank you for coming to my TED talk.

What if I wrote an in depth post about how I characterise Moran though
what elements specifically do you see as 'off' in portrayals of Sebastian in BBC verse stuff?
Well...
All right this isn’t actually particularly easy to answer because I know context changes things, and the context of BBC Sherlock stuff generally speaking is ‘Moran in this universe is a man in a relationship with an incarnation of Moriarty I don’t like anyway and is radically different to the ones I do like’. Which is essentially the major reason why Moran is ‘off’ in that universe and why I don’t like/generally can’t read content for it, plus that context then also changes the smaller details as well.
Also just... in general I don’t even touch that stuff, and I don’t want to sound like I’m shitting on other people’s content or ideas or headcanons or whatever and there is a danger of it sounding like that when you ask me to list specific things. But I’m just saying, there are these things I don’t like and don’t accept and they seem especially prevalent amongst BBC Sherlock stuff and even amongst some things that are meant to be Victorian Moriarty and Moran too but are still so obviously BBC Sherlock based (which makes it worse for me because if it’s actually labelled as BBC Sherlock then I’m generally just going to ignore it but often people deliberately mistag or mislabel stuff or claim it’s something else and then it does just turn out to be BBC Sherlock, also a lot of these ideas also have crossed over into the Victorian side of the Sherlock Holmes fandom so... unfortunately a lot of this stuff is, realistically, not actually easily avoidable, which is what makes it even more profoundly irritating to me, far more so than if it was just kept separate and I never had to see it).
And what sort of gets to me more is that Moran in some ways does seem to be portrayed similarly even in that very different universe. Like it just seems to be accepted in almost any universe, Moran is a promiscuous bi guy who is, prior to Moriarty, not good at committed relationships, for instance. But then there are the details that I find ‘off’. I think I’d find it less unsettling really if Moran was overall portrayed completely different in BBC Sherlock stuff, not similarly in many ways but then with these elements that are ‘off’ for me. But it makes it feel even more ‘wrong’ when he’s similar in a lot of ways, then the author throws in something that knocks the whole thing off balance for me.
Anyway one of the major ones is that idea of him having Moriarty’s name or initials literally carved into his skin. Also Moran being a massive guy, not just really tall but literally just massive all over? And him being a real extrovert which is probably not just a BBC Sherlock thing to be honest but it’s definitely another thing that feels way off to me. Plus of course there’s the stuff where some detail makes it very obvious this is being based on some actor I don’t like/would not accept as Moran. There probably are several more specific things but I can’t remember them offhand.
#might do this later#especially because I'm still side-eyeing that 'Sebastian Moran has kenergy' post#it may have *some* positive connotations (I don't know) but#I fail to see how that term actually applies in any way to Moran#and that on top of... certain other things I have read/seen recently#is making me sure we are really not talking about the same character here#which probably goes a long way to explaining#why many people always seem more interested in the hypothetical idea of me writing something#than they do in what I actually write#which TBH is very depressing and very off-putting

it was this interview around 19:50 but yeah its about privacy and why he hates talking about his relationships in interviews, why he finds it disrespectful to the person he's with, and like he think it ruins ur acting bc he's supposed to be selling a character not himself (its similar to what joe said in i think when he went to cannes for the favourite or maybe billy lynn)
I don’t have the link attached but yeah Ryan Gosling has said many times that he likes to keep his private life private lol 🤷🏻♀️ He did a bit more promo with Eva for Barbie but I think that was to demonstrate his Kenergy, not because of a change of position on anything important.

My thoughts about the Barbie movie!
It was an okay movie. I didn't find it very funny or touching and found myself getting bored during several scenes, but it was okay.
I think it tried to say so many things it never really said anything? It tried to be a story about becoming human and feminism and how men get sucked into manosphere and the relationship between mothers and daughters and in the end it really didn't dive deep enough into any of those themes.
That being said, Sasha (a tween who hates barbie and who kids at school fear and respect because of her sharp tongue) was my favourite character, her relationship with her mom was the movie's best part to me and I wish I had more of her.
The movie's idea of womanhood was weird. It weirdly revolved around men? Like. Being a woman is all about how men treat you, what they expect from you, how they hate you, how they're attracted to you. And I get how womanhood is easier to define in contrast with manhood, but it still felt odd. Also, Idk, as someone who has never dated or wanted to date men, I didn't feel any connection to this movie's "female experience". But it would probably feel very different for a woman who dates men.
Speaking of how heterosexual the movie was, why did Weird Barbie have to have that horrifyingly heterosexual line about Ken.
Every woman in this movie looked perfectly pretty and feminine. Didn't like it. I wish Sasha's mom Gloria looked more ordinary, more like a woman you could see when taking a bus. She was our only non-doll main female character yet she was just as beautiful and put together as all the barbies. Sure, the human men can look silly and unattractive, but, as we all know, the only thing women can't be according to Barbie brand is ugly.
Seeing Emerald Fennell (as Midge) every once in a while made me remember that at least I can watch Call the Midwife tonight to see the women I wanted to see in this movie.
I wonder if I would have liked it more if the movie was more focused on being a human than being a Woman. One of my favourite little things was Barbie instinctively laughing when she saw another person laughing; it was so human of her. I wish the movie had focused on why Barbie found humanity so valuable and precious that she chose it over perfect plastic immortality.
I felt the kenergy. Liked the positive masculinity in the end.
I wish the movie was about Sasha and Gloria. About how Sasha doesn't grow to like Barbie, but how seeing her mother happy reminds her about her mother being a whole person. Also in my dream version of the movie Sasha is a tomboy and becomes friends with the Weird Barbie.
I think it's kind of hard for me to separate this movie from it's hype. It doesn't live up to it, in my opinion, but I'm glad that people are going to movies with their friends, seeing even two movies on the same day, talking about them together. It's great. There are aspects of the hype I find annoying (like acting like this is the best/only movie made for women ever) but bringing people together is always wonderful.

A Condensed Essay on Ken and the Dream Gap
As some of you were interested, I decided to edit the notes for the Ken section of my lecture into an essay unto itself. I considered giving you the whole transcript, but I have decided to put that energy into a wider array of projects instead of just one. I hope you enjoy!
Ken and the Dream Gap
The Barbie Movie is a materpiece that manages to balance the pastel pink psychological horror of Stereotypical Barbie’s journey into existentialism with Beach Ken’s Greased Lightnin’ Kenergy, and equally Ken’s destress from his journey from radicalisation to self-acceptance and Barbie’s fun, energetic adventure with her new friends.
The key conflict of the Barbie movie stems from how Ken feels upon discovering patriarchy after being subject exclusively to matriarchy for his entire existence.
If Barbie is Everything, where does that leave Ken? Well, according to Ryan Gosling, Ken is face down in the mud next to a squished lemon, which is where he found his daughters’ Ken doll. Every day is a good day for Barbie, but Ken only has a good day if Barbie looks at him. Luckily for Ken, Barbie is inclined towards looking at him, but it sets up Ken’s position from early on. Ken is just Ken. He means about as much to Barbie, and every Ken means about as much to every Barbie, as their purses or their shoes because Ken is an accessory. Jokes have been made about how his legal name is “and Ken,” because he only exists if he’s with Barbie. Barbie admits having no idea where Ken- and the Kens in general- live.
When Ken gets to the Real World and discovers the Patriarchy, he is seeing for the first time a world in which he can see people who look like him in the positions usually held by people who look like Barbie. Ken represents something greater than he would ever think he could in this movie: the Dream Gap.
The Kens
Beach Ken is not the only Ken, and we have to address the Kens because of how the hierarchy of Barbieland is revealed through them.
Simu Liu’s Ken exists as a rival to an accesory, so where does that put him in the hierarchy? Ryan Gosling’s Ken’s job is “beach,” which doesn’t mean much, but he does have something he’s good at. Simu Liu’s Ken is Ryan Gosling’s Ken’s rival for Stereotypical Barbie’s affections, but what is he aside from that? And what of the other Kens? Do they have jobs? One of them is a lifeguard at a plastic beach that it’s impossible to drown in, and is inhabited by merfolk. They exist to be looked at and admired, but Barbie admits to not being in love with her Ken.
If every night is girls’ night, do the Kens have the autonomy to have Boys’ night?
The feminism of the Barbie movie is pretty obvious from the earliest introduction of Barbieland: there’s a woman as president with a team of women behind her, and that’s just one of the positions from a female-dominated world. The feminism is intersectional too with one Barbie with a golden prosthetic to match her golden accesories, and a Barbie in a perfect pink wheelchair. Hari Nef, a trans woman, plays Doctor Barbie, and the Barbies come from a number of races and ethnicities, as well as body types. The Kens are also equally diverse in appearance.
But the point is that the feminism is imperfect, because just as there are issues with gender equality in the real world, the highest ranking Ken seems to be Lifeguard Ken.
Is it any wonder that they fall so quickly victim to the patriarchal mindset, seeing what it could represent for them?
The Dream Gap
The key conflict of the Barbie movie involves the Barbies taking Barbieland back before the Kens can complete their coup d’etat. What spurns Beach Ken towards the coup in the first place is his discovery of the patriarchy within the Real World, a place in which he sees men- like him- in positions of power, something that he recognises as different and unusual compared to Barbieland.
This is not Ken trying to create the toxicity of patriarchy; as made clear by his belief that horses are such a big part of patriarchy, he doesn’t fully understand it and just wants the same level of respect that he perceives the men of the real world to have, and that the women of Barbieland have.
Ken has never before seen a man in any of these positions. His job is to stand on the beach and look pretty. Ken is the embodiment of the Dream Gap.
The Dream Gap stems from girls seeing the breakdown of society, and how that works against their progression. Seeing women in positions of power encourages girls to seek and desire positions of power, and Ken has never witnessed that.
Lesson 5 of the Dream Gap curriculum is The Career Compass which “encourages kids to believe that they can be anything and explains why exploring lots of careers is important!”
If the Kens had that lesson, would Beach Ken have seen the men of the Real World as powerful or as overpowered compared to their female counterparts.
If little girls had this message generations ago, would The Dream Gap Project be needed today?
Don't Pit Kens Against Each Other
Part of the Barbies’ plot to take back Barbieland involves them working on the Kens’ jealousy towards the other Kens based on certain Barbies’ affections. This pitting of the Kens against each other did work in the Barbies’ favour, but it speaks to a wider societal problem of women being pitted against against each other- for positions in society and jobs, or worse, for male affection.
This isn’t about sports or games, or even about going for the same promotion; this is about desiring for another person to fail where you succeed.
The blog the un-edit says: It’s been ingrained into our society that girls should be jealous of other girls. We should always be unhappy about a girl who is more popular than us. We flip through magazines, or scroll through social media, feeling bitter about any girl’s figure we rank above our own.
Why does it seem so bold to say that, we should not only stop with the comparisons, but we should actually feel good about other peoples’ successes?
Going back to the film, what happens to the Kens? The Barbies pit them against each other in order to regain their positions, and have them compete for female attention. We learn by the end that Stereotypical Barbie is not interested romantically in Beach Ken, and seemingly not in any Ken, and yet the Kens’ feelings for the Barbies’ were so crucial to saving Barbieland.
In Conclusion
Ultimately, the Kens are a metaphor for how women feel in the Real World: failed by a societal system designed to work against them. We need to feel seen in important societal roles frm bin collector to president, to astronaut to ballerina, to mermaid; Ken had never seen a man do any of those things just as women are so rarely part of those real-life conversations. It is magnified by other issues such as race and ethnicity, class and economic status, ability, and gender and orientation, and ultimately is the point is, we need to see ourselves to feel seen. Ken is as much the victim of the Dream Gap as a little girl in the Real World might be, and its up to everyone together, on equal footing, to close it.

I'm Just Ken (And That's More Than Enough)
masterlist // ao3
*Summary: Ken had it all. A long term long distance low commitment girlfriend that he adored, and now he was about to be the breadwinner with a degree in his hands!
*Rating: +18 for explicit mature content
*Content/Tags: Fluff, Fluff and Smut
*Status: Series (Part 3)/Complete
*Author's Notes:
Mainly just domestic shennanigans as Ken takes another step into the human world and gets a diploma so that he can work his way to a master's or MBA and be a "real" man of the patriarchy. Also I just like the idea that after Ken finds his person that loves and is devoted to him the way he was to Barbie, Barbie and him can be really good friends. So much so, the girlfriend and Barbie just casually go get their nails done together and talk about life.
That. And Ken gets along with Ken.
The alarm went off early that morning. Ken sat up like it was another day in Barbieland, and pressed his lips onto his girlfriend’s head.
“Today’s the day.” He smiled at her. He let the back of his hand swipe across her cheek before kissing her once more.
“Mm.” She made a soft noise as his hand grazed her
“It’s graduation day.” He announced to her, and got up from the bed. Her hand lazily attempted to grab him and pull him back into bed. He pouted as he walked away from the bed. “I have to get to school.”
“I know…” She whined, her eyes staying shut. “I’ll miss you.”
“I’ll miss you too.” He leaned in, took her hand, and kissed the back of it. “Ceremony starts at 8.”
“Okay.” She replied and rolled onto her other side. Ken got into the clothes he picked out the previous night and adjusted the part of his hair. He strolled out the door and pulled out his phone. First, he sent his girlfriend a text to tell her how much he loved her. Second, he called a Lyft to pick him up. He got into the car and sat quietly in the back. His stillness with a smile seemed to intimidate his driver, but he really didn’t care at the moment. When he arrived, he saw there were thousands of people there already and attempted to find some order to the madness. He checked his phone to see what time it was. He had plenty of time to get registered for the ceremony, but he was worried about whether or not his girlfriend was awake. When he had found a line going into the stadium, he decided to give her a call. Voicemail. Probably meant she was in the shower. He’d just need to wait a couple of minutes. He flipped through his phone again. 5 minutes was more than an appropriate amount of time he decided and tried calling again. Voicemail once again. He frowned down at his phone before getting an incoming call from her.
“Hi.” He smiled into the screen
“Hi honey.” She blew a kiss to him over the phone, “Sorry I was just getting ready. How are you doing?”
“I think I’m doing good.” He looked over the heads of the students in front of him
“That’s good, I’ll see you soon. I love you!”
“I love you too!”
“I’m so proud of you, bye!” She quickly congratulated him before hanging up. He held his phone up against his chest and closed his eyes. Mattel, was he lucky to have met her. He found his seat and sat down while people around him were walking about. He waited. And waited. After seeing some of the other kids he was walking with on their phones, he flipped through his phone. Not that there was much going on. He flipped through photos just to pass time. She was so beautiful… and she loved him so dearly. When he had first mentioned the idea of Kenergy, she practically squealed. She thought it was so adorable. He was trying to be serious when he brought it up, but couldn’t help but think she looked cute when she ran around their apartment, making sure he was giving everything 100% of his Kenergy. Her positivity had made every second when he wanted to throw in the towel on getting a degree worth it.
“So cute.” He muttered under his breath, looking at a photo of her winning an award for her Barbie “cosplay” at a convention she had taken Ken to. He noticed a notification and clicked on it. She had sent him another text, this time with a picture.
“Graduation fit!” She had said. She had her foot up behind her, a gesture she had called ‘popping her foot’. Then she had a cute little finger heart, just for him.
“Looking… good!” He replied, saying what he was typing out loud. He sent the message and she sent back a barrage of kissy emojis for him.
“Just about to get into the arena. Call me!”
He nearly threw his phone on the ground trying to punch in her number, before remembering that he could just call her from the messages. “Hi honey!”
“What section are you in?” She asked him, before he stood up and waved back towards the crowd
“Do you see me?” He asked
“No babe….” She hesitated before seeing him and making a dash for the barrier between graduates and family. He ran to meet her and his lips collided with the top of her head. His hands cupped her jaw line and he continued kissing her forehead. Her lips pressed against his wrist until they pulled away from each other, and looked into the other's eyes. “Hi.”
“Hi Ken.” She smiled back at him, “Congrats!”
“I haven’t walked the stage yet.” He told her sheepishly
“I know. But I’m still proud.” She squeezed his hands, “Oh and Barbra texted me when I walked in that she’ll be here in 10 minutes or something close to that.”
“Awesome. Thank you so much for everything that you’re doing…”
“Of course, I know you’d celebrate me too if I was graduating.” She replied. The loudspeaker announced that the ceremony would start in 15 minutes, and Ken pulled away from her. “Wait!”
“What?”
“Let me get a picture of you in your cap and gown!” She held her phone out, ready to snap
“Okay.” He posed for her and she took the picture, waved, and went to go find a seat. He sat back down in his spot and waited. He did a little dance in his seat as the ceremony began. Most of the kids were bored out of their minds, but Ken was able to tune more than 2 hours of the ceremony out. He only noticed what was going when people started getting up around him and he followed them up. He looked behind him and saw both Barbie and his girl waving at him. He waved back quickly with a smile then moved along in the line. He held his breath as he waited. He had gotten through school, and it was fine… but he was more worried about what would come after that. Finally he made it to the stage and took his diploma without much fanfare. He practically ran down the aisle back to his seat and sat back down to wait out the rest of the ceremony. When the graduates were released he went running to his girlfriend, before realizing he left his diploma on his seat, and ran back to grab it. She met him back at the barrier and he hopped over to give her a kiss.
“Do you mind holding this for a second?” He asked Barbie, and handed her his diploma before picking his girlfriend off her feet and kissing her once more. She wrapped her arms tightly around the back of Ken’s neck and held him as close to her as possible. He put her back down and she rested her head against his chest. “I love you.”
“I love you too.” She said, her voice muffled by the fabric of his clothes
“Here.” Barbie handed the diploma back to Ken. He smiled and took it back.
“I did it.” He said after a couple more moments of cuddles. She looked up at him and smiled
“You did it.” She replied, “Come on. Let’s go home, we can have some cake.” “Sounds good.” He nodded and followed the two. She was a couple of steps ahead of Barbie and Ken on the way to the car, and when he was sure that she couldn’t hear behind her he talked to Barbie.
“Is everything ready?”
"Oh yeah." She smiled, "Are you really going to do it?"
“Yes. I mean… I’ve known it was going to be her since I told you about her.”
“That’s cute.”
“I’m really excited.” His smile went from ear to ear, “Do you want to see it?”
“You have it with you?”
“Yes.” He pulled out the box and showed it to Barbie, “Doesn’t it look nice?”
“Holy shit!” She almost yelled. Ken hide the box in his pocket as quick as he could before his girlfriend turned around to face the two of them
“What?” She looked at them
“Nothing. Just saw a squirrel.” Barbie smiled at her
“Squirrel?” Ken looked around, before Barbie elbowed him, “Right. A squirrel. Definitely seen lots of those.”
“Okay.” She gave them a weird look before turning back around, “Sorry I parked so far away.”
“It’s fine.” Ken smiled. Not that she’d see him while he did
“God I should have worn my Birks.”
“That would have been smart.” Ken agreed with Barbie
“I have an extra pair in my car, if you want to borrow them when we get there.” His girlfriend offered
“Oh that’d be awesome.” She did a little hair flip. Ken went back to staring down at his ring. Barbie saw his gaze fixated on the jewelry and asked him,
“How did you afford that thing?”
“Ken.”
“Which one?”
“My rival Ken. He was really nice. Something about buying a crypt before the bubble exploded?”
“He bought crypto?” She scoffed
“Yep.”
“Ken.” She admonished him. Not that she could really say anything. She didn’t invest but a lot of guys at her job had told her about how much they knew about the market.
“We’re here!” His girlfriend announced and unlocked the doors. Barbie crawled in the back and laid down
“Sorry I had like… an insanely long night last night.”
“It’s fine.” His girlfriend laughed
“So, we’re going home?” Ken asked her
“Unless you want to go somewhere else for lunch?” She asked him, fixing the stray hairs on her head, using her rear view mirror
“No, I’m fine.” Ken hummed, turning the radio on. He flipped through a few stations until taking his phone and connecting the Bluetooth to her stereo
“You trust him that much?” Barbie piped up as she noticed the change in music
“Of course. He has great taste in music… though I wish he’d listen to more K-Pop.”
“It’s just not my style.” He shrugged
“That’s okay.” She kissed his cheek. “This one.”
“Got it.” He put his phone down and let the song on the speakers finish before continuing to flip with her approval. The ride home was smooth, with Barbie getting woken up occasionally by the sounds of Ken and his girl scream singing along with a song. When they pulled into the parking spot, Ken took his girl’s hand and laid a kiss onto it.
“I love you.” He whispered to her
“I love you too.” She whispered back to him and laid a tiny kiss onto his cheek. She got out of the car first and walked away from her car as Barbie stumbled out and Ken jumped out. Ken ran around to the other side and grabbed the key from his girlfriend to get up into the apartment before she could. She followed after him but talked with Barbie about what style of Birkenstocks she could buy with her next paycheck. Ken got into the apartment and locked the door behind him. He knew he only had a couple of seconds, max, to get everything in order. He threw his cap and gown onto the floor and shoved it into the pantry for the time being. Next, he went and lit all of the candles that Barbie had taken out and made sure the apartment looked pretty. He heard a knock on the door before hearing his girlfriend whine.
“Ken, let us in!”
“One second!” He replied, only to hear her groan. He grabbed a bag of dried hibiscus petals and threw them on the floor. They kind of looked like rose petals right? Then when he was ready, he pulled the ring out from his pocket and opened the door.
“I was about ready to call the locksmith.” His girlfriend laughed before glancing behind him, “Ken what did you do?”
“I… have something really important to ask you.” He took her hand and guided her over to the center of the petals before getting down on one knee
“Ken?” Her voice barely made a sound
“I… I know how we met was a little bit weird. And it’s been nothing but weird since we’ve been girlfriend boyfriend but… I want us to be more than girlfriend boyfriend.”
“Like what?” She smiled
“Like… my bride? Or wife? Bridewife? Whichever one lasts longer.” He smiled back at her and opened up the ring box
“And if I said yes?”
“I’d be really happy.” He laughed. Without a word, she nodded her head up and down quickly and he got up from kneeling to slip the ring onto her finger. She pulled Ken into a kiss and he wrapped his hands around her waist. He pulled away from her and wiped the little tears that ran down her face away, kissing her cheek for each tear drop that had fallen. She giggled as his lips met with her skin numerous times, and she cupped his face in between the palms of her hands. When he was still, she got on her tip toes and kissed his forehead before whispering,
“I love you Ken.”
“I love you too.” He whispered back. He looked away from her and over at Barbie, who came running with her phone.
“Here.” She handed him the phone, “This one is my favorite personally.”
“Wait, did she know?” His girlfriend… well fiance now, asked the two of them
“Yeah.” He beamed, “She helped me get this all set up.”
“Thank you.” She smiled at Barbie
“You’re welcome!”
“That’s a cute picture.” She leaned against Ken. He instinctively wrapped an arm around her back and adjusted his shoulder so it would be a more comfortable spot for her head.
“Not to brag, but you should definitely use this on your wedding invites.” Barbie suggested
“We should.” She hummed, “Okay. Let’s do lunch.”
“Sounds good.” Ken replied. The three of them celebrated Ken’s graduation until Barbie started dozing off on their couch while Ken and his fiance cuddled in the other chair.
“I’ll send you the photos tomorrow.” Barbie said, making her way to the door
“Sounds good, can’t wait to see them again. See you!”
“Bye guys!” And with that Barbie left. She locked the door behind Barbie and looked at Ken. She practically ran into his arms. He stumbled a little, but managed to keep from falling back. He propped her up and looked into her eyes.
“What do you want, honey?” He asked her innocently enough
“I just want you.” She kissed along his jawline. He practically melted in her arms when she did that. He picked her up and carried her to their bed. She wrapped her arms around his neck and her legs around his hips, peppering his cheek with kisses all the while. When he knew she’d land safely on the bed, he let his hand run down along her spine. She let go of him and fell onto her back before pulling Ken on top of her. He pulled away for a second to undo the buttons on his shirt and she sat up to work the back of her dress off. She pressed her forehead up against his and gave him a quick kiss as the clasp came undone.
“God I love you.” She smiled as she looked into his eyes
“I love you too.” He said back. He threw his shirt off to the side and used his hands to pin her arms down onto the bed below him. He kissed her neck and pressed his hips down into hers. He used her body as friction up against his dick for a couple of seconds before thrusting into her. She arched her back up to meet with his body. He pumped into her, what started off slow and safe turned desperate and ragged. Her little mewls and moans under him turned him on way more than he could even say in that moment. Her hands rested on his shoulders as his breaths got shorter.
“Ken…” She moaned. He looked up at her. “Just keep going…”
He felt a warmth pool in his stomach and he let out small broken moans as he came inside of her. He carefully laid on top of her, kissing her head and wrapping his arms around her center. She moved her hands down along his back and let them rest just above his butt. She kissed his forehead quickly before pressing her own against his.
“God I love you.”
“I love you too.” He rubbed his cheek against hers. She was quiet for a moment as they cuddled before finally piping up,
“Hey Ken?”
“Yes?” His head perked up
“How long have you been thinking about that?”
“About what?” He batted his eyes
“Proposing.”
“A long time.” He smiled, “I just knew you were the girl I wanted to be with.”
“That’s sweet.” She laughed a little
“Why?”
“I was just curious is all.”
“Okay.” He rolled over and lied next to her, adjusting himself so his arm rested underneath her head. She draped her hair over his arm and looked into his eyes.
“I love you.” She said, wrapping her arms back around his chest and burying her head into the crook of his neck. His lips met with the crown of her head and he replied one more time,
“I love you. With everything that I am.”

Something positive:
I am obsessed with the Barbie movie since I watched it. It made me feel empowered and seen as a woman and I want everyone to feel like that! Or feel the Kenergy oh yeah. It also made me want to rewatch the 1995 Pride and Prejudice after getting called out by Depression Barbie and I had a blast. They get me. And I love it.
I felt seen 💕
I love you all pals, gals and inbetweeners. Spread the love!
Ooohhh what a coincidence!! I am right now at the cinema waiting for Barbie to start in ten minutes!!
I have been meaning to watch it for so long now, and I am finally here in my pinkest outfit (I'm even wearing some sequins) with my fiancé. I am so glad that it was so good for you, I'm crossing my fingers because my expectations are so high now, and I really don't like to watch things with expectations!
But yeah, I can see myself joining the Barbie artist army after this.
Let's see 🤞🤞🤞

Today I ascended from this mortal plane and remembered why I love movies and want to pursue filmmaking.
For context, I watched Barbie, and the Miraculous Ladybug movie today.
So, I saw Barbie with my mom, in a theater full of women. The first five minutes, I was sat there like "Did the internet lie to me again?" cause I was genuinely confused about what the hell was happening onscreen. But once I managed to get into the groove of things, I really enjoyed myself. I didn't play with Barbies growing up, and it was still enjoyable to me. It was so campy and funny(thank you Kate McKinnon and Michael Cera for being a big source of that), but it had some pretty deep themes, such as criticism against both a patriarchy and a matriarchy, the struggles of women in society, existentialism, and mother-daughter relationships. Definitely a movie for the girlies, but I think it's enjoyable for everyone.
I think the music was great. My mom hates musicals, despises them with her whole heart, but she told me after the movie that she loved I'm Just Ken. And yeah, it was so much. My favorite bit was the fast paced "Can you feel the Kenergy" moments. I've been playing Identity V, and I use that to hype me up for matches. It gives 80s power ballad, and it's super fun to listen to over and over again. Ryan Gosling did a very good job with it. I can see I'm Just Ken and Peaces battling it out for Best Original Song. Push was great as well, despite being underused in the movie, the full version(which is a cover of an existing song) is very interesting, and lyrically fits the movie so well.
I'm not typically a fan of bright colors in movies, catch me watching The Batman any day, but Barbie is the exception, as it just made certain scenes feel so much more important. Mattel offices being cold and gray, really sold that corporate vibes, and the soft white at the ending with Ruth definitely made it feel like Barbie was reaching a life-changing conclusion. It's a wonderful use of color.
Now the themes are the big draw of the movie. Regarding the patriarchy, matriarchy, and daily struggles of women, those themes are definitely hard to miss, but they do so much good with them. Showing Ken being essentially brainwashed by the idea of the patriarchy is interesting, and definitely rings home for anyone who grew up with boys as friends. I've seen a few guy friends of mine turn from sweet guys, into womanizers as they grew older. And it also shows that a matriarchy isn't good either, by showing how the Kens feel less than in BarbieLand. The Ken's situation is a muted version of women's situations in the real world. The Kens aren't sexualized or hated, but they're ignored. In the real world, both in the movie and real life, women have it worse than the Kens, and feel in a similar position. Makes it easy to enjoy both perspectives. Barbie focusing on thoughts of death and change as a whole hits with me on a personal level, as I have a lot of issues with existentialism, and any movie with death as a major theme usually brings me close to tears(such as Puss in Boots 2, curse you good movies). Seeing Barbie meet her creator in Ruth was so sweet, and was incredibly heartwarming.
Special mention to the line "We mother stand still so our daughters can look back to see how far they've come". It made me want to give my mom the biggest hug, and I'm in no way a hugger.
Then I went home, and watched the Miraculous Ladybug movie because I had nothing else to do. I've been with the show since 2020, which isn't as long as other fans, but the show still sticks in my brain the same. I knew the animation was going to be great, and that the art direction would make up for any shortcomings in the story. And while yes, the plot was rushed (duh, like, how many years has it taken to get to this point in the show? its gonna feel rushed) but the art was absolutely stunning. My favorite moment was from Hawkmoth's villain song, Chaos Will Reign(available on Spotify) when they pulled out the Disney Villain lime green color. I love that color, and seeing Hawkmoth with it made me ascend. I really love the ending battle as well, the use of colors, lightning effects, butterfly textures, was just perfect. The animation was also really smooth, down to the small details of hair movements, such as when Nino and Alya are on the roller coaster, or when Chat Noir's hair gets wet.
The music was probably my least favorite part, just because I think Cristina Vee could've slayed it, and that the songs sounded kind of generic. But Oh My God, Chaos Will Reign had me bopping and replaying it. In fact, I'm listening to Chaos Will Reign and I'm Just Ken while writing this. It definitely gave me old Disney villain song vibes, mixed with the slightest hint of a Danny Elfman soundtrack. It just sounded so evil, but in a way that I can get behind. Keith Silverstein can actually sing, and that note at the end was wonderful. The vibrato gave me life. I was lowkey hoping Nooroo would stop talking so I could hear more. The chanting was awesome, and gave Friends on the Other Side vibes. I was (and still am) a big fan of villain songs, and this is a throwback to my theater kid days when I exclusively played villains and enjoyed it. Definitely overthrew the Hawkmoth Rap as my favorite Miraculous Ladybug song, but the Hawkmoth Rap is like, second place still. The only crime this song had was being too short. Release the ten hour cut.
Finally, aside from the glory that is Chaos Will Reign, I want to say that the two identity reveal scenes were amazing. I'll start off with Adrien and Marinette's, just because I care about that one the least. I think it was a creative way to go about it, with the masquerade masks. Fanfiction wins again. But I have so much to squeal about when it comes to the Adrien and Gabriel reveal. This version of Gabriel was definitely way more sympathetic than his show counterpart, despite committing atrocious acts. I actually wanted this Gabriel to get some redemption, and I think that bit of forgiveness from Adrien is just that. Let them have a good bond, PLEASE! The whole battle scene was just amazing, the fact that Hawkmoth was willing to do literally anything, and very nearly came close to winning. I knew he wasn't going to win, it's a kid's movie, but I was still on the edge of my seat and biting my nails.
I need both of these movies injected into my bloodstream ASAP.
Do I recommend them? Depends on your preferences. For Barbie, I can see why people wouldn't like it, it's campy(in a fun way), and it's anti-patriarchy and anti-matriarchy, which would make the misogynists and misandrists mad. But I think if you're open to a goofy time that will make you appreciate the women in your life, then give it a watch. It's definitely worth it.
For Miraculous Ladybug, it's a kid's movie, based on a show with a big following spanning years. I think it's something to watch if you're a fan, former or current, of the show. If you're just starting to watch Miraculous, it'll be a better watch if you sit through the show. But, it's a good movie, and still enjoyable for novice Miraculers.
I'm definitely watching these over and over again.

Ooo, thank you so much for the tag! 🤗💖
youtube
"I'm Just Ken (Full Kenergy Version)" - Ryan Gosling - I unironically love this song and I am totally feeling the Kenergy. I'm not sure if I'm Kenough or not, though. 🤔 Would Ken think I am? Not sure. Answer unclear, try again later. 😉
"Snow on the Beach" - Taylor Swift (feat. more Lana Del Rey) - Language warning that nobody probably cares about but I always try to do my due diligence, what can I say? 😉 Anyway, I was stoked to see a more Lana version of this song, which I already loved! 💖
"Nightcall" - London Grammar - I fell in love with this version from a short but awesome Snowhunter vid by IdtProductions2!
"Untitled 1" - Keane - Mannnnn, I've loved this song for years. Just such a mellow and melancholy vibe. 💖
"You Are The Reason" - Calum Scott - There's just something about this song that I adore so much and I've nearly used it in a million and one vids but no idea/pairing has ever stuck. Maybe one day! 🤞😣🤞

also like, I'd argue eva mendes was zqually as famous as ryan g when she decided to slow down/stop the filming for him, whereas like ryan was always kind of a movie star and while Blake obviously had the massively successful gg thats only one project ane its from a time where tv was considered inferior to film in terms of Acting. Add to that the fact that Blake was quite young even for an actress when she got with Ryan and the fact that she seems to still want to make films, it does read like a career stunted a bit by a relationship which overshadowed her and which is filmed with growing imbalances, which is not the vibe with ryan and eva at all, like even having retired I feel like to this day if she wanted to start again she would have enough good will and respect in hollywood to make it work, and while it may have a bit to do ryan g especially after barbie it would mostly be on her own merit.
Sidenote, but blake doesnt drink??? how is she friends with taylor
but also I think Eva didn’t do it “for” Ryan like she’s given interviews where she’s very much said she just wanted to focus on the kids while they’re little and she’s in the fortunate position to have been able to afford to do that. She’s also said that in part that came out of deciding to have kids at a later point in life than a lot of other women (she was 40 when she gave birth to their oldest) and being hyper aware that she’s only got the one shot with them and obviously having achieved a great deal prior to that point like idk that it even felt like a compromise in any way. It’s what she wanted to focus on at 40. She does do some occasional things she’s interested in and she wrote a children’s book for example and she posts online and stuff which I think she enjoys doing like I think she has fun making her reels and shit. lol a bunch of her reels aren’t even brand deals, she likes making reels of old timey/Hollywood golden age actresses and literally I think she does this for fun and for no other reason.
Tbh Eva realistically could’ve stepped back from work even if she’d decided to be a single mum at 40 like that’s why idk that she did it “for” Ryan. Obviously it’s easier with Ryan, obviously it’s nicer for Ryan because they can and come visit him on sets and shit, so yea I think he’s very supportive of her decision but like she very much wanted to have sufficient time for her family because she felt she wouldn’t get a chance for a redo and she’d done stuff she’d wanted to for like 20 years before that decision professionally lol and in terms of partying etc so by that point like… she wanted to focus on being a mum.
she’s said actually she might go back to acting again when the kids are older and I agree that she has enough of her own traction that it wouldn’t be in any real tangible way related to Ryan and more like “Eva Mendes returns to the screen” 🤷🏻♀️ Like I’m sure she’s still getting sent scripts because she’s Eva Mendes and she could also phone around and see what’s cooking with past collaborators/people she admires or is interested in the work of. As I said, she did promote Barbie and I think that was really welcomed by the Barbie team/appreciated by Ryan because he’s the Ken to her Barbie and all the Kenergy stuff but I do also genuinely think she dug Barbie. She doesn’t generally speaking promote Ryan’s work otherwise. Not because I think she isn’t supportive but because like that’s not her role/job lol and fwiw Ryan’s also not out there selling her children’s book again not because I think he isn’t supportive but because it’s her thing not his thing.
Blake’s vibe does seem a lot more imbalanced, she does still seem interested in work, she had more than just GG but you’re right in that it wasn’t the sort of illustrious career that could see her ringing people up and saying “what do you have for me?” without - also because how entangled their brands are - the person on the other end being like “and so can we count on Ryan R being on board for this?” lol. And she does seem to have done it “for” Ryan rather than just because she wanted to focus on family.

My dear Barbies and Kens,
Words cannot express how much I enjoyed this whole experience: from Barbie sleepovers, to dance rehearsals, to filming in our pink bubble, to the whirlwind that has been press and Barbie mania. I think I cried tears of happiness about a hundred times in the past few days seeing how much joy our film has brought people and seeing all the positive responses to it!
