finished kaos! i had a great time with it (LOL if the immediate binge didn't tip that off). check content warnings for the show before you dive in though!

some more spoilery thoughts:

jeff goldblum was perfect casting for zeus. you start off being like ay! it's this goofy guy in a tracksuit who's a little hammy, a little weird, and then the pivot he makes toward becoming more and more menacing is so good

loooooved the fates! did not expect suzy izzard in the show, so that was a pleasant surprise

billie piper as cassandra was another pleasant/unexpected surprise! allll the excellent ladies

styling for all the characters was so, so good. esp dionysus and hera

WOULD DIE FOR THE 3-HEADED PUPPIES and dennis omg rip

i...was rooting for orpheus/eurydice ngl. how can you not with "eurydice" and orpheus straight up choosing her over his life twice. i think the romance between her and caeneus didn't work/went way too fast for it to be believable with the weight they were giving it & the circumstances they both were in. orpheus/eurydice would've been interesting to see as a couple falling out of love trying to build it back up (and maybe failing). or i couldve gone for caeneus/eurydice if they had more build up and more connection than the plot macguffin (yes, yes, i know they were both about "fuck the gods!" but it didnt land for me). love caeneus though, and his puppyyyyyy. excited to see more from him if s2 happens

the show did a really nice job of balancing the gods being these kind of hammy, larger than life creatures with their darker/more menacing natures. the baby scene, kitten scene, etc. all really hammer in that these people have killed their way to the top

the final arrangement of the prophecy montages at the end of the season didnt quite work for me. i liked the energy, where it was going, etc. but i don't think it had the wham! impact they were going for and the pieces didnt line up as neatly as the show was building it up to

FINALLY someone portraying hades as a man who just wants to stay home and have a nap!!! persephone was great too

She's got no one left that she cares about, so she's focusing entirely on making mad amounts of money and keeping her powerful position because that's the one way she's found to keep feeling good about herself.

She clocked Alejandro and Rudy as queer years ago but there's no solidarity there. She'll kill them if she must, because she's Alejandro's nemesis and he is hers (queer on queer violence)

Retirement home anon again: I’d like to get your opinion on this (if you have one), it’s gonna be long sorry 💀

I bought Story of Seasons: A wonderful Life for the Nintendo switch which is a remake of the 2003 harvest moon a wonderful life.

I’ve bought other harvest moon/story of seasons games for the switch as well and honestly… I’m disappointed.

The character design lacks, they all look so dead and emotionless I don’t know how to explain it. The whole world looks like it’s straight out of Cocomelon. You also start with a gifted Cow and other things, that you’d normally not get in the originals and tbh it feels like they stripped all life away in all the newer versions, made it way easier in the beginning and tried to up the cuteness to a maximum which resulted in it looking like a kids show. The dialogs also turned so soft imo.

In harvest moon ds you straight up start with the mayor of mineral town insulting you and then the character (you) proceeding to try to kill him/punch him with an axe, a hammer, a scythe, even a watering can and in the end your dog bites him in the ass in a blackout screen.

It’s like how they took the sass out of the animal crossing characters with time and it just makes me sad. The new versions of the characters feel like lifeless copies :/

I‘m still hoping for more remakes and I’m still a big fan of the harvest moon/story of seasons franchise. But fields of Mistria honestly gave me the exact feeling I had when I got harvest moon ds on Christmas as a kid and started it up for the first time. I literally had a bit of a teary eye playing the demo and then the EA version of FoM 🥺

That’s also why I like FoM so much - it’s funny, it has innuendos, it’s made for adults/older teens despite it being cutely designed, the characters look and feel like they’re adults as well.

I‘m not trying to be mean to the newer games and I understand people enjoy playing them, hell I still buy them because I love the series, but they leave me hanging. ://

YESSSS I get it OMG it's so boring I have about 100 hours in PoOT (pioneers of olive town) and although I controversially found Harvest Moon One World better than Olive Town (I loved the open world concept and Jamil in particular), it was still kinda boring compared Stardew Valley which I bought as my first game for my switch back in 2019.

That day, I played SDV until 4 am, it was summer break and I just graduated highschool and it was magical playing SDV for the first time, I could barely put the game down for long enough to take care of myself lol.

And I get that exact same feeling again playing FoM, that kind of magical feeling where you're completly transported into a new world. I don't think ConcernedApe made SDV with children as a primary audience in mind, if he did he probably wouldn't have added depressed alocholic in there and I love it, I love a good story and good characters, inperfect characters with flaws, they feel way more real and more likable than the boring nice, polite ones we were getting in newer HM/SoS games. All I remember from PoOT is how claustrophobic the town feels, and how hard it was to decide who to marry because none of them was interesting enough, even Damon, the edgy biker boy, felt like he was taken straight from the Disney Channel. I want characters that I can call bastards, I want mean characters, they're the funniest to learn to love.

As for making the games way too easy, I'm not sure, I just remeber struggeling in older games but mostly because I was a child when I played them. I'm pretty sure you also could get a free cow in Animal Parade and in the tale of two towns but I could very well be wrong.

I'm not gonna lie, I never played Harvest Moon DS but that sounds hilarious, we need more of that back, and less Ned Flenders neighbors. That's another reason why I love SDV so much, Pam and Shane are so mean to the player at first (hell even Sebastian is kinda cold) but that's what makes them more compelling characters than the cast of PoOT, where frankly only the non-marriagable characters were interesting.

I think that's why I'm so obsessed with FoM right now, while yes the characters are so so nice, they're not boring and I don't even remember them by their niceness, Hayden is a super polite farmer, but I'd say his distinct traits are loud, open and so very passionate wbout farming, even his dialogue about being a good neighbor and lending you sugar is so much more memorable because he's so forward about it. I feel like most characters in this game can be described with a positive and a negative trait, which is what newer HM/SOS games lack, the balance between baby boy baby and bastard. And the dialogue in general is soooo good, I don't feel like I'm being talk down to, it feels like a normal conversation between adults, not between a child and their caretaker.

Laslty, thank god (NPC Studio) for the older characters, I feel like farming game fans are not in their teens (13-15) and more like in their twenties and up. We don't want to romace teens, we want something that doesn't feel illegal lol.

Lots and lots of shows have a story of a young girl being raped, not seeing justice as the law is useless, and committing suicide and then having a (usually male) relative take justice into their own hands (most recently, the Sign with the brother aiming to avenge her). I get why they do it, it's a scenario that's very easy to empathize with and the first part of the scenario (girl is raped but the perpetrators get off scot-free) is very common but it's so sad every time.

Also... I wish the girl wouldn't kill herself every time... like the pattern being that she's sympathetic because she was innocent/pure/naive and also died too soon is like yes true, but girls and women who are sexually active/not "pure" or "good" still deserve empathy and the only action after being raped isn't that they must take their own life

I read 1 line about ep 4 from the on-air and it's that the detective gets fired or smth

Song Chon is arrested but will he remain that way? like idk what the actual point of this show is, is it too early for him to be dealt with? bc the focus is so much on him, I can't tell if they want to bring him back later for most Song Chon vs Detective or if we're supposed to finally turn out attention back to Lee Tang

Pretty good last episode actually since all the storylines merged and a satisfying enough ending.

Overall:

Really enjoyed the first few episodes (up to ep 4), then eps 5 - 7 were kinda meandering and it felt like not much was happening (that I cared about anyway), then ep 8 was engaging again. In the second half, we focused a lot on Song Chon and his story to me wasn't as engaging as Lee Tang's and we also strayed away from Lee Tang and his thoughts.

I liked the fun shots and the imagination scenes, it was interesting.

I feel like the show didn't have many twists and turns, like it was all a bit anti-climactic, which dampened it.

From a comment on the On-Air thread, I learned that apparently he's also part of the Wooga squad and I searched up the rest of the people and I've actually watched 1 thing from each actor: Choi Woosik (A Killer Paradox), Park Seo Joon (Midnight Runners), and Park Hyun Sik (Happiness). I didn't watch Hwarang so technically haven't seen V act but I did stan BTS in 2017 so I'll count it. Don't know who Peakboy is though lol

Had high hopes because of the concept + Strangers From Hell director but that show was a lot more atmospheric and insular and the character focuses were more engaging.

“Well,” you say, looking up at Feitan from your position on the ground, pressed against the apartment wall of an unfortunate woman who took you in.  “It would be stupid to say yes now.”

He was covered in blood--her blood, she screamed so much--and staring down at you with an unmistakable disdain. At your words, his gaze narrows, but you’re so pumped full of adrenaline that you can’t really register any new feelings at the sight. You should, though. You really should.

“Smart mouth,” he says, mildly enough. Your eyes travel to the hammer in his hand, held down at his side. Some wet blood has smeared against already-present streaks of gore on his pants. You stare and think, stupidly, that it’s going to be a real pain in the ass to get the stains out once Feitan brings you home.

If he brings you home.

He crouches down in front of you, and the shift in his position finally does allow for recent events (the woman, her head, her face, crunching and screaming and--) to sink in your stomach, slowly replacing the dizzying adrenaline with a weighted dread. The dread settles with a thud, and it makes you think of hammers, of the hammer still in Feitan’s hand.

“Should I kill you?” He asks. But he’s not asking you. He’s murmuring the words to himself, thoughtful, slow. Mulling them over with apparent sincerity.

Maybe you crossed the line, finally. Maybe he was tired of having to reprimand you--for big things, small things, things you didn’t even realize were an issue until you were smacked on the head or made to stand on your tiptoes for hours on end. Maybe you weren’t worth the effort it took to keep you in line.

The worst part is, you can’t decide if it would be worse to die now or later. Do you even want to go back to the life Feitan created for you? Could that really be called a life at all?

The world seems to slow as he raises the hammer. You think of how the woman screamed, of the terrible crunching noises, of the blood and bits of brain you can see on Feitan’s face.

And then he brings it down.

In the microseconds in between, your eyes screw shut. You don’t pray, you don’t think, you just wait. It’s primal, animalistic, blank and hollow. Is this how other people die? 

And then the hammer hits... light. Feather light. Tapping your head with a soft thump that barely registers. You feel gore sticking to your hair as he pulls it away and sets it on the floor.

Your eyes open slowly, and the first thing you see is Feitan with his cowl down. There is a smile on his face which is, frankly speaking, perhaps more terrifying than the sight of the blood all over him.

He leans in, and the kiss is metallic and bitter as the blood on his mouth smears against your own. You gag, but he doesn’t care--instead, he groans against your lips, pressing against you with more fervor. His teeth edge against your lips and it stings, and soon enough the blood of the woman and your own are mingled together, fresh metallic bleeding from your lips mixing with the clotting deep red from Feitan’s face. 

After he gets his fill, he pulls away and if you didn’t know that the red smeared around his mouth was the gore of the unfortunate owner of this apartment, it would look like you’d been wearing red lipstick that Feitan smeared all over himself. It would be funny, if you weren’t sitting on the floor close to her corpse, if you hadn’t heard her die, if Feitan wasn’t your captor-come-to-bring-you-back.

There’s a few moments of pause as he watches you. 

“I’ll keep you,” he says, finally. There’s something almost light in his tone, like he’s unburdened himself of some decision that pricked at his mind. “If you can be good,” he adds, almost cooing. He knows you hate it when he calls you good, a word he always keeps sticky and sweet, praising.

“What if I’m bad?” You say before you can stop yourself, voice shaky, breathless. Even in a situation like this, your mouth runs away with itself. It’s gotten you punished so often that you’re surprised your body doesn’t shut down your ability to speak as a biological defense mechanism.

Feitan stands, and you wonder if you just blew your reprieve, if you can call the certainty that Feitan will drag you back “home” and into the basement for what is sure to be an extended punishment a reprieve at all.

“Smart mouth,” he says, repeating his earlier words. But when his gaze narrows this time, it’s not in annoyance, but in something entirely different; in something darker and richer, something that makes you actually regret not clamping your hands over your mouth the moment you go the urge to snark back.

Feitan unzips his trousers and tugs them down his thighs. You can see that he’s already hard through the thin boxers underneath--he probably got hard listening to you cry as he killed the woman, as you gagged and whimpered through your gore-swapping kiss. And now you were going to take care of him, for all his troubles.

“Smart mouth,” he repeats, voice lower, throaty. “Much better uses for it.”

a/n: omg I absolutely ADORE fred like so so much!! I haven’t written him in so long so I hope this does him (and your request !) justice :) hope you like it!!

“Go, go!” Fred shouted at you, taking you by the wrist and tugging you down the hall. George ran beside you, throwing glances over his shoulder at a particularly angry Filch charging at you three.

“What did you get?” you asked between pants.

“Now’s not the time for questions, love!” George replied. You didn’t notice as he received a sharp glare from his twin over your head.

“Lookout, (Y/N), lookout. Does that word mean anything to you?” Fred stared down at you, feigning anger.

“I’m sorry, I got distracted!”

By what, you’d never tell him. As the twins had browsed through Filch’s office in hopes of finding their canary creams prototype, Fred had gotten rather warm. He decided to remove his sweater, accidentally tugging his shirt up with it to reveal his Beater-toned body.

You had fallen for Fred a long time ago. It was a few years back, you were staying at the Burrow. Your ex boyfriend had broken up with you a few days prior, claiming that you were just too close with those Weasley twins, especially Fred. You were up for days, racking your brain about what you did wrong. You felt you made a terrible houseguest in that state, rather opting to wear a bright smile around the family when you truly weren’t at your best.

You couldn’t sleep that night. You tiptoed down to the kitchen for a glass of water and jumped out of your skin when Fred popped out at you. He muffled a chuckle at your mortified demeanor before frowning and quickly apologizing when he saw your puffy red eyes.

“Are you okay? I swear I didn’t mean to make you cry,” he whispered, bending down to meet your eyes.

“No, no. You didn’t do anything, Fred. It’s just...the breakup has been hard.”

“Oh.” Fred looked off to the side, his brow knit together. “Do you want to stay with me tonight? I know that that sorta thing is terrible when you’re alone.”

Your traitorous heart skipped a beat. “Your mum would kill us.”

“That’s not a no,” he teased in a singsong tone. A soft giggle escaped your lips; wait, since when did Fred make you blush?

“Come on,” he offered. He motioned you towards him with a flick of his hand as he stalked towards the couch in the living room. He turned around, noticing that you hadn’t budged. “Come on, love, it’s just me.”

“Why does that give me a bad feeling?”

Fred shot a devilish grin at you that had you weak in the knees. He sat down on the couch, tugging you down beside him. You sat politely beside him, glancing at him from the corner of your eye.

“What’s all this? Since when have you been afraid of cuddling with me?” His face grew wide with embarrassment. “Merlin, I smell, don’t I?”

You slapped a hand over your mouth to fight back a cackle. “No, no!”

“Then get over here!”

Fred outstretched his arms and you clambered into them, your face entirely red. You rested your head against his chest, feeling the soothing rise and fall slow down as he, too, began to fall asleep. His arms moved up and down your back, calming you instantly.

At some point, you had fallen asleep. You only woke up when Fred had picked you up to put you in your bed. He had no idea you were awake and you weren’t about to test that theory by saying something as he carried you up the stairs. He placed you in your bed, tucking you under your sheets with care. He faltered a moment before leaving, pressing a gentle kiss to your forehead.

It was then you knew you had completely fallen for Fred Weasley, whether you liked it or not.

Your head turned for a fraction of a second but that was enough time for Filch to catch up to you. George groaned, rolling his eyes as he breathed, “You two better thank me for this!” He then shoved you and Fred in a tiny broom closet as he ran off with the stolen items.

Filch ran past your little hiding spot and Fred tucked you close to his chest. You could feel his heart hammering and his breath was hot against your face. You had heard Filch’s footsteps trail off towards George but you didn’t dare say a thing, not with the position you were in.

“You know,” Fred began, “I believe that Filch is out of the way thanks to Georgie’s little stunt.”

You hummed in content. “Maybe we should wait around for a few more minutes just to make sure that he doesn’t come back.”

Fred’s lips twitched upwards in a smirk. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you’re using this as an excuse to be close to me.”

“W-what?” You cursed yourself for getting so flustered by him.

“That’s a yes if I’ve ever heard one.”

You sucked in a sharp breath as his eyes flickered between yours and your lips. Was he implying what you thought he was? He most certainly was as he was slowly inching towards you, his strong hands anchored on your hips.

“Oi!” George called out. You jumped so fast out of Fred’s arms that you slammed against the wall behind you. “Get a room!”

“That was kind of the plan,” Fred added, throwing you a glance. You were sure that you had never looked so embarrassed in your life.

Just to make matters worse, Filch appeared beside George, sneering at the two of you. You and Fred let out a loud groan as you stalked over to the man, prepared to get punished unjustly for your crimes.

Things had been so strange after that. It certainly felt like a heat of the moment situation so you didn’t dare bring it up with Fred again. However, you seemed to catch a few lingering glances from him but brushed them off as nothing but a friendly stare.

You had gotten a week’s detention with the twins, doing anything from cleaning off the desks in the Potions classroom to setting up the materials for the next Charms class. Unfair? Absolutely. Grueling? Never, not when you had Fred and George with you. They always found ways to have fun during detention, even if it meant getting scolded. 

Fred, George, and you were placing down small white feathers for the first years to use during Charms the next day. You three circled the desks, positioning the feathers ever so carefully atop them.

“Hey, (Y/N/N)!” Fred called out.

As you turned around, you were attacked by a feather that Fred had enchanted to tickle you. You cackled involuntarily as you patted your pockets for your wand, yanking it out and enchanting a hoard of the feathers to do the same to him.

Just as the fun began, it ended.

“Miss (Y/L/N)! Mr. Weasley! And...er, Mr. Weasley?” Professor Flitwick bellowed as he entered the classroom. The feathers fell to the ground an instant.

“What?!” George threw his hands up in the air. “They started it! I was just a spectator! Honest!”

“That’s exactly what the true perpetrator would say.” A wicked grin spread across Fred’s lips that had a fleet of butterflies occupying your stomach. Fred then turned towards you as you walked over towards him, leaning against the desk beside him. “Don’t you agree, (Y/N/N)?”

“I most certainly do, Freddie.”

“I hope you three understand that I’m not blind. I know that Mr. Fred Weasley and Miss (Y/L/N) were ignoring their duties,” Flitwick informed, his arms crossed. “Detention. Just you two, tomorrow night.”

“But Professor-” you began to protest.

“I expect you to be here right after dinner.”

Flitwick left the room shortly after, throwing careful glares over his shoulder. George sneered at his twin, feigning annoyance. However, you didn’t have to pretend. You slapped Fred’s arm as he snickered.

“What’s so funny? I have to spend another night with you! And without George this time!”

Fred threw a wink at you that had your heart skipping a beat. “You say it like it’s a bad thing.”

You could feel your face heat up as you scrambled for a response, praying to Merlin that it wasn’t obvious how flustered a single action made you. 

“Anything that has Fred Weasley in it is a bad thing.”

You thought that you were going to faint, Fred was so close to you. Flitwick had forced you two to clean out the supplies closet. You were pretending to be upset with him for landing you yet another detention but his stupidly handsome face made it so difficult.

You were just about to scold him for the thousandth time that night when he had placed a hesitant yet firm hand on your hips as he reached above you, placing a small glass jar on a shelf. All intelligent thought flew right out of your head. All you could do was blush-- it was embarrassing.

Fred leaned down so that his breath fanned over the back of your neck. You shivered at the sensation while he whispered, “This just keeps happening to us, doesn’t it?”

“H-huh?”

Smooth, so incredibly smooth.

“Getting stuck in broom closets and such together.” Fred stood up to his full height but his hand was still anchored onto your hip. “If no one knew any better, they’d start assuming things.”

You chanced a look over your shoulder at him-- that was a mistake. He had that lopsided grin that made you want to melt. You cleared your throat and turned back around, hoping that he hadn’t noticed.

You settled on avoiding the topic, seeing as you couldn’t do or say anything without sounding like a complete idiot.

“Assuming things?”

So much for avoiding that topic.

“Yes, assuming things.”

“What sort of things?”

“If I saw two incredibly attractive people going in and out of broom closets, I’d assume that they were snogging.”

Your heart leapt into your throat. Your body went rigid and your eyes wide. It took your brain a few seconds to process what he had just said. A quiet chuckle left Fred’s lips, his chest rumbling against your back.

“You think that I’m attractive?” you asked, gaining confidence.

Fred spun you around so that you were flush against his chest. You sucked in a sharp breath, feeling the upperhand slip from you.

“Love, I think you’re gorgeous.”

You laughed nervously and stepped backwards out of his grasp. “These things sure are small.”

“You’re doing that thing,” said Fred, stepping towards you.

You gulped. “What thing?”

“That thing you do when you’re nervous. That adorable little laugh.” Fred brushed some hair from your eyes, his gaze piercing. “Do I make you nervous?”

“What?” That same nervous laugh fell from you again. You frowned, pursing your lips in a tight line.

“That laugh. I do make you nervous, don’t I?”

“What? No.” Your laughing spilled into your speech now. Merlin, this was humiliating.

“Is it me? Or is it the assumptions about us?” Fred quirked a brow up, awaiting your response. When he didn’t hear anything, a lazy grin twitched his lips upwards. “It’s both, isn’t it?”

“Yes!”

You did not mean to say that.

“Oh?” Fred placed a hand on the shelf over your end, effectively boxing you in.

“No, wait-”

Fred leaned down, planting a passionate kiss on your lips. It was heated, like it was pent up from years and years of yearning. Your hands ran up his chest and tangled in his hair. You felt the world was spinning; it didn’t feel real.

Fred was the one to pull away, placing gentle pecks on your lips. He rested his forehead against yours as he panted, a wide smile on both of your faces.

“So,” he breathed, “how about we confirm those assumptions?”

“It’s like you read my mind.”

Finally finished season 1 and for obvious reasons couldn’t stop before watching 2x01

and I gotta say y’all bamboozled me. BAMBOOZLED.

I was already laughing that Buck couldn’t keep up his bitchiness for a whole episode but y’all he didn’t last half the episode are you kidding me?? Not even a two-parter episode! A regular, standard episode that already had a lot of other stuff going on!

Some thoughts:

So Buck has something of a competency kink, yes? Yes??? Like he was always going on about how smart/good at her job Abby was, so impressed she handled that kid in the pool without her hands shaking. And he’s pissed that Eddie is taking lead on shit on his first call but then Eddie overrides Buck with the patient and he was right and Buck literally has to take a moment and look away because his face wants to smile and he’s being a smol angry cat who wants to hold onto his ire. He tells him good call after too and I think it was meant to be sarcastic but he’s too fucking earnest that it’s just like...half-grumpy??? 

And if we want to cry we can think about how he might have this competency kink because innately he’s just trying to be really good at something (or good as a person) so people will love him so when he finds people who just know who they are and take care of things without making a fuss he’s like “yes, you will teach me”.

And then this asshole who happens to be really competent tells HIM he’s a “badass under pressure” and Buck fucking breaks and decides this is someone he’s going to keep trying to impress for the rest of his life because omg that felt good.

Also, STILL NOT OVER THE FACT THAT THAT WAS JUST HALF THE EPISODE. GUYS.

Also loved the foreshadowing of Buck thinking Abby’s back and getting all excited only to be scarred for life by naked sister. I just think that’s neat.

Not going to go on much with the gym scene because it’s just too homoerotic. Highlights for me were: Eddie “I’m Chill” Diaz getting 2 punches in when he walks in and then almost fucking falls over on his first kick, you know, like you’d do if you were totally focused an unaffected. MY face flushed wth embarrassment for him. And Chim gives me life in this whole scene. And Eddie’s slutty slutty tank top.

Then we get the “come on I need a nickname for you so you can know you’re special to me like the rest of the family, guy who’s only been here half a shift”. And general inability to be out of Eddie’s radius for 5 minutes even though everyone else is spread out and chilling between calls. From this scene on btw, look to Eddie’s face, he constantly looks over at Buck when things happen to see his reaction and that’s just...............fine :)

And the fistbump they FAIL at, which kills me. Such talent between them and can’t coordinate for a fistbump for the life of them.

Then second rescue, Eddie follows Buck into the pool instantly and they successfully cooordinate a block of cement attached to a delicate neck out of 8 feet of water. Did they discuss any plan beforehand? Of course not. Are they just perfectly fucking in sync after half a shift? A-fucking-pparently. And I’m not even going to touch “No, I’ll be the hammer and pound that chisel good :D”.

And I’m gonna have to make a second post because overanalyzing things is my jam and I have some blurry background nonsense to get real hyped about.

I really like Jue, and their armour and colour scheme, and that big hammer. Tell me more about them. I know you said they're a work in progress, but I want to see more photos and hear more.

thank you sm for asking about jue omg! theyre very dear to me since ive had them for a looong long time <3

ive got their story down relatively well, though their personality isnt the most consistent yet and there are a bunch of things here and there i havent really figured out </3

jue basically was disowned by their own family for not being able to use magic like the rest of the family did, and instead turned to become a scientist. but i guess mixing various toxic chemicals, a love for explosions and hatred for the family that one was abandoned by can create an interesting personality, and certainly a lack of morality.

jue is technically of krytan nobility, born as julia flame. the flame family has fire running through their veins, quite literally. theyre a family of pyromancers, controlling the element of fire, some of them even having power over all elements, making them elementalists.

not jue though. they werent born with all that arcane magic (unlike their older sister, whos probably one of the most skilled elementalists of the family), they werent born with... any kind of magical knowlege. no matter how much her family tried to teach fire spells, or any magic for that matter, jue just couldnt do it.

so, the second child of the flame family was forgotten. in secret, jue was given to another "family member", an aunt of jue that had met a similar fate, though instead of not being able to ever learn any magic, she had become a necromancer instead (what a scandal!). jues aunt was bitter towards her former "family", but loving to her new child. violett, their bigger sister, would still visit them in secret, playing with them, bringing expensive gifts. it was a loving relationship between them that would however fade as the two grew older, and violetts visits stopped.

jue may not have inherited the fire magic of her family, but certainly the fascination of flames. jue didnt need magic to play with fire. they became an inventor, engineer, scientist. jue, still under the name of julia at that time, left home at a young age to see more, the grand things tyria had to offer. they were drawn to asura tech, all those floaty cubes with funky colours, flashy alchemy and golems that listened to their owners every word, it drew her in. but shed soon find it to be a bit boring. they needed more kaboom. the charr had that needed kaboom. war machines, tanks, flamethrowers. jue liked the big things.

it was probably in the middle of their big search for more explosives throughout tyria that scarlet began terrorizing the world. oh scarlet. she was crazy, sure, dangerous, absolutely, a danger to the world, yes. jue didnt like all that much her. but they couldnt help but idolize her nonetheless. the descend into madness had started.

"julia" became "jue", to create more distance between them and that damned "family". violett was long forgotten, after all, vi didnt seem to care. jue collected more weapons. favoured was anything that could create explosions, fire, sparkly colourful lights. making elixirs became a great passion of jue, and an even greater passion was testing them on unsuspecting subjects.

but between all that sparkly glitzy alchemy, their trusty hammer remained jues favourite. why? well, because it killed instantly, and it killed properly. there was nothing technical about it. just pure violence. one would wonder how killing because fire and explosions are pretty turned into killing for the sake of killing. who knows. jue certainly doesnt. she doesnt think about that though. they just do what they want, and they just so happen to want to smash peoples skulls. maybe its just fun to do.

after all, to jue, everything is about fun. fire is fun. alchemy is fun. murder is fun!

my hand slipped and now here a post longer than anticipated! i wish i could simply stop talking sometimes.

like many of my characters, i kind of dont know what jue did during more recent events. they do spiral into evilness more and more though, and go so far that even violett snaps out of her little disney villain phase to try and save jue (or save tyria from jue, who knows)

its hard for me to portray them just the way i want: unhinged, not giving a shit about other lives, and obsessed with the beauty of destruction. as long as i havent figured out more about her, i also struggle giving them a proper outfit, which is why they run around in the scientist outfit for now!

Aweee 🥹 I’m so happy my message meant something to you and that it brought you even a little bit of comfort while you’re going through a difficult time. I just really love your work and I wanted you to know that! I’m going to try my best to accurately put my thoughts into words. Apologies in advance if some of it is just word vomit haha.

So, firstly, I love your characterization of Edward. A while back, when I was strictly reading this on ao3, I saw that you said you used Before the Batman as inspiration and it really shows. I feel like the way he acts and thinks is so accurate to the movie. For that, I offer you my applause. I love cutesy, subby, clingy Edward as much as the next guy, but it’s really refreshing to read something where he is as the movie intended ya know? Sometimes the shit he says to the reader makes me CACKLE, he just doesn’t get it sometimes and it’s hilarious. Like, it makes so much sense to me that he would find someone in that dumpster fire city and deem them worthy of his attention. Someone finally gets it! And they’re attracted to him! Yay Edward!! On that same spectrum, I love that you don’t clear him of his faults. Edward has ISSUES and I feel like a lot of the time other writers “fix them” as soon as Edward finds the reader. Just like that *poof* he’s sane now. His way of thinking and the reactions he has, ESPECIALLY when he tells the reader about being the riddler (dear god that made me sob, I was UNWELL) were just so natural to me. Everything about him in this fic is so believable and in-character for him. I just love it so much.

Secondly, the reader is so fucking interesting MY GOD. Like, she’s so complex and my heart is always breaking for her. I know what it’s like to feel like you’re losing your independence and agency over your own body, it’s fucking awful and the way you depict her struggle with that is so realistic. One of my FAVORITE moments in this fic is when Edward drives her out of the city to that spot she loves. She was so happy and at peace and that’s all I want for her. I like that she knows what she wants too, she’s not really afraid to tell Eddie when his protectiveness is getting to be a bit too much. She knows he means well, but no one likes being smothered.

Thirdly, their dynamic is so great. They start out being so nervous around each other omg it’s so cute. There are things they both wanna say so badly, but their nerves often get the best of them which is SO relatable. The angst was KILLING me, but it was so necessary. I sound like a broken record, but it was just so real to me. Like Edward’s perception of the reader was just like shattered in front of him, it was like a devastating loss for him, so he does everything in his power to push her away. He says the most awful things he can think of to hurt her as much as possible. I am not lying when I say that argument had me in shambles, like it felt like I was right there in the middle of it and I felt SO bad for both of them. Which I just think is a sign of excellent writing. It’s hard to make people feel genuine emotions using only words, but Max, you did it and I think that is SO impressive.

And we already know that I love the smut, that shit is AMAZING!!! You’re really out here giving the people what they want 🤭

Ok, so I just scrolled through what I just wrote and I must have blacked out or something Bc DEAR GOD IS IT LONG!! I’m so sorry 😂 I ramble when I get excited about things. I really love this fic though, Max. (That’s painfully obvious though 🙄) I think it’s beautifully written and I can see all of the hard work you’ve put into it. omg anon thank you so much 🥺 this was amazing to read! I’m glad you like the way I write Edward, I spend a lot of time thinking about and researching his character. I bought and read zero year riddler because they took inspiration from that Batman riddler arc for the movie, read the before the Batman book and annotated all of the parts about Edward and also found and read his journal that someone compiled in a Google doc. I try VERY hard to keep him in character (or what I perceive as his character I guess). I still want him to have growth though so writing that has been a bit challenging I think.

Edward always came off as a very sad character to me, and that’s how I try to write him. To me he’s someone that could have been good and has that potential but due to trauma just didn’t get there. I guess in that way my story is kind of a fix it fic Bc he does grow in it. As for not writing away his problems — I don’t think that type of trauma/ actions surrounding it would just go away no matter how in love you are with someone! Not for a very long time at least and some of it probably not ever. Idk I have a Lot of THOUGHTS and FEELINGS about Edward Nashton I guess!!!

Their fight is the scene that caused me to write this whole thing, that was the catalyst so I’m glad that sticks out!

as for the reader, I wish I would have made it an OC rather than Y/N Bc she basically is an OC but I didn’t know it was going to be this long when I first started writing it😅. And I didn’t know that I was going to like writing so much?? For the past almost two years now I’ve been dealing with being newly chronically ill and like.. Y/N’s story was a way to write about it as a sort of outlet. It’s cathartic to talk about how much it sucks without actually personally talking about how much it sucks if that makes sense???? (It probably doesn’t lol)

I love that the out of town chapter was your favorite 🥺 that’s so sweet omg. I liked writing that one. My favorite is the one that’s right before it where they go to the estate sale together. The part where he grabs her hand after she tugs on his shirt was supposed to be my like 🌸 anime cherry blossoms 🌸 moment lol. And my favorite joke he says is in that one too :)
