chaos theory rambling (no specific spoilers just general thoughts) below the cut bc goddamn
1) i LOVED it. it had everything i loved about the first series and more. plot? fire. character development? fire. action? fire. humor? fire. the villains? fire. dialogue? fire. they even improved on their environments and lighting (i feel) from the first series. there were genuine moments where i felt my heart drop or a chill run down my spine. they really pushed their rating as far as they could go.
every character’s arc- frustrating they might have been at times- felt so fitting for each of them. the different ways they’ve all processed and dealt with (or not) their trauma is fascinating. These Kids Aren’t Okay!!! and i’m SO pleasantly surprised and impressed with how the show tackled these issues head-on.
these characters really shine when they’re working as a team to sneak around and infiltrate and outsmart and handle dinosaurs in a way only they can. every time it showed their unique skills or knowledge i was cheering. at the same time, even mundane moments of joking around or bantering were just so right. their dynamics with each other are wonderful. their arguments and conflicts are heart wrenching. I Care Them… so much.
i still have some minor gripes regarding their aged-up designs (mostly for ben, yaz, kenji, and the suddenly blue-eyed sammy??) and some differences in shipping tastes but in the grand scheme of things that’s easily overlooked. at the heart and core of the show, these are still the same characters i fell in love with during the first series.
2) some things i will be using in darwin’s finches. others i clearly will not be. my next fic is gonna be a dave and roxie oneshot, and then a multichap fic about the herd’s recovery on the mainland (spanning the time up until dominion would take place), but after THAT…. ohhhh i’d love to do my own version of this plotline someday (cuz even tho my campers have prevented the events of fallen kingdom, dominion makes it clear that lockwood estate was not the only source of dinosaurs on the mainland…)
there was a LOT in these first two seasons that reminded me of my own version of the campers. the paranoia, the fallback to survivalist mentality, the capability in the face of deadly situations. and above all, their determination to do the right thing, whatever it takes. i fucking LIVE for situations where a normal person looks on in awe and horror like what the fuuuuuck? i love how they work together and i really enjoyed seeing new people added to their dynamic, how they worked and didn’t work at different times.
anyway 10/10, highly recommend. it’s a sequel series for an animated children’s spin-off series for a reboot/sequel of a beloved franchise and they did Not have to go this hard, but they did. i feel both camp cretaceous and chaos theory have done far more justice to the jurassic park franchise than any of the jurassic world movies (though to be fair, i haven’t seen dominion all the way through so i can’t fully judge)
#jurassic world chaos theory#jurassic world camp cretaceous#jwcc#jwct#i’ve got a couple days off for holiday#so i’m tryin to take advantage#but now it’s kinda backfiring cuz i’m brimming with inspo for THREE separate fandoms#and i only have so much time to write#but i trust i’ll get to it all eventually#also my blog will shortly NOT be spoiler free#i still use ‘jwcc’ for my reblogs 🫡
