"Toji, do you love me?" You ask, as if he isn't curled up with you, his head resting on your shoulder so that he can see the stupid videos that pop up on your feed.
"Why would you even ask me that?" He mutters, tilting his head up to look at you.
"You're taking forever to respond. Oh... my heart," you say, your voice forcefully strained while clutching your chest as if you're pained.
"Don't start--"
"It's crumblingggg," you cry out, dramatically. "Oh god, it hurts so much, Toji! How could you? Is this how it feels to have love taken away? I should go outside and tie myself to a pole and see if there are any takers. Maybe, someone will actually want me and give me a warm, safe, and loving home." You give him a hopeful smile. "Yeah... that sounds nice and peaceful."
"Uh-huh, sure. Too bad you're not going anywhere. You get me and our warm, safe, and loving home." You huff, childishly, at that, to which Toji grins. "You know I love your dramatic ass. You keep asking if we can get a dog, but you're basically like if a husky turned human."
You gasp at that, playfully offended, and stare at him in disbelief. "I'll be waiting for your apology," you say, putting your hood on and turning your back to him.
"Baby, come on," he pleads, chuckling. "Come on. You're not mad at me."
"I am. I'm furious," you say, monotonously. "You shouldn't even look at me right now. I'm ferocious," you add, trying not to laugh at your own word choice.
"Yeah? You're a scary thing, right now, 'cause I made you mad?"
"Mhm," you hum, in response, and continue to scroll and watch videos without him.
"Hmm..." He leans over and snatches your phone out of your hands, tossing it towards the end of the bed. You feel helpless as he smoothly pulls your hood off, flips you onto your back, and straddles you. Your arms are pinned beside your head, by his enormous paws. You've been somewhat manhandled into surrender and all you can do is laugh as you look up at him.
"This is your ferociousness?" Toji asks, with a dumb grin on his face when you simply nod and press your lips together, to do a horrible job of stifling your amusement. "I'm so strong and brave, huh?" Again, you nod, unable to contain the giggles that spill out. "What if I... I don't know..." he murmurs, leaning down, closer to you. "Just gave you a little..."
The distance between your lips is closed off by Toji's lips pressing against yoursâa slow, savored kiss, that makes your hands go limp beside you. He is utterly disarming, even against your faux grumpiness.
He hums something low against your lips when your laughter begins to bubble up once again. "Mm... You were never mad at me, were you?" Toji asks.
"And if I was?" You say, a gleam of mischief in your eyes and a sly smirk on your face.
"I'll kiss you, again. Is that really what you want?" He says, as if it's a threat.
"You know it. Kiss me, sugar lips," you say, amusedly.
"Why are you like this?" He mutters, rolling off of you and positioning himself beside you on the bed.
"Fine, gravel lips. Rock salt lips, sandpaper lipsâis that what you want me to call you instead?" You ask, turning over to face him.
He slings an arm over your waist and pulls you in close. The scent of his body wash smells warmer as it mingles with his body heat. It's relaxing, fitting for the lazy day you've both indulged in. "You don't mean it," he responds, smugly. "I was sugar lips before you decided you wanted to hurt my feelings."
"Whatever," you mutter, rolling your eyes.
"Love you, sassy baby," he says, teasingly. "Don't ever doubt it. Now, where were you going with that question?"
"Well, it was going to be built up to me asking you if you have a Valentine, but then you crapped all over it. Now, it's not cute and it stinks. My plan reeks of failure."
"There's my dramatic girl," Toji utters under his breath, a chuckle rumbling in his chest. "Why don't you try again?" He says, smiling with amusement. "I'll even play along, alright?"
You sigh, as if it's going to take forever to pick up from where you left off, but nonetheless prepare to retry.
"Okay, fine," you start off, a soft sigh leaving your lips. "You love me, Toji?" You ask once more, already trying not to laugh at the focus he holds on you, like he's answering a survey.
"You know I do," he responds.
"Okay. Are you busy on the fourteenth of February?"
"Not that I know of."
"Are you interested in doing something that day?"
"Yeah, you, but go on," he says, smoothly.
"Toji," you chide, with a giggle. "Be serious."
"Fine, fine. Uh, yeah. I am," he answers. "Gotta treat my baby real nice, don't I?" He says, with a smirk.
You press your lips together, and compose yourself before asking the next question. "Do you have a Valentine?"
He tilts his head and deadpans, as if you're playing some sort of joke on him. "Ma."
"Just answer the question, Toji," you whisper, like you're breaking out of the questionnaire you made for him. "Do you have a Valentine?" You repeat, in your normal voice.
"Yeah, I got a Valentine," Toji says, his eyes trailing down your face, to your lips and back up to meet your eyes, again. His hand slides under your sweater and grabs ahold of your bare waist. He loves the layer of goosebumps that rises on your skin when he touches you. You're just so reactive to him. "She's basically an actress with how dramatic she is. It cracks me up, 'cause it's like talking to one of those screaming huskies she's always showing me on her phone." He grins, ready for you to go off, again. "Look at her, look at her. She's about to do it, right now," he says, lowly, his eyes glued to your squinted ones.
"Hmph. If you want me gone, just say so. Here I am, trying to ask you out on a date for Valentine's Day. Trying to show you all my love and affection and... and ughâyou don't care about my effort. You don't care about how romantic I am. So, you know what you're getting instead of wined and dined?"
"What's that, mama?" Toji asks, attempting to stay serious through your little dramatic fit.
"A big pile of nothing. No chocolates, not even a rose. And then at night, i'm gonna make a pillow wall between us, so you can't touch me. I had a gooood surprise for you, too, but you won't get it, until... uhh... I haven't decided, but it won't be on Valentine's Day," you assure.
"Baby," Toji coos, smirking at the light grumpiness in your features.
"No," you grumble, with a huff.
"Pretty baby. My pretty, pretty Valentine," he murmurs, the corners of his lips curling when he sees your facade crumbling. "Oh," he utters, with a soft, barely audible gasp. "Look at that little smile. It's getting bigger... and bigger... and-"
"Stop!" You cry out, through a laugh. Toji takes that as an invitation to pull you in even closer. To see your sunshine-like smile up close and hear more of those uncontrollable giggles as he tries to kiss you.
"Don't turn away from my sugar lips. Kiss 'em," he instructs, reaching for your jaw. With ease, he makes you face him again, soft laughter still spilling past your lips. "Be nice," he says, his voice a low purr. "You're my good girl, right? You'll let me kiss you?"
You sigh, defeated, and stop resisting his affection. "Yeah," you mumble, a confirmation for both statements.
"You're an angel," he murmurs, before connecting your lips once again. You feel his thumb stroking your side, causing your heart to race and goosebumps to surface on your skin all over again. They spread even more when his hand travels towards your back, his fingertips running up and down your spine.
His kisses are soft and slow, yet, still manage to bring heat to your cheeks. You know that if breathing wasn't necessary, he would spend hours on just kissing you, nonstop. Kissing until your lips feel raw and miserably bruisedâtender to the touch. Until just the act of him leaning in for a mere peck, has you putting your hands up to his chest to stop him before he gets to your lips, again.
With a soft, final smack of your brushing lips, Toji breaks the kiss. "Say," he drawls, a sly smirk forming on his lips, "do you have a Valentine, sweetness?"
You hum, like you're thinking thoroughly about the question. "No, unfortunately," you respond, wiping the smirk off his face in an instant.
"Baby, you have to answer the question honestly," he whispers, mimicking the way you did before. You crack a grin and nod, compliantly. "So... you got a Valentine, doll?" He repeats, in his normal voice.
"No, I haven't been asked," you respond.
Toji scoffs. "Really?"
"Yeah, you said to answer honestly. I asked you to be my Valentine, but you haven't asked me."
"You asked if I have a Valentine," he corrects. "See, you're not being entirely honest with me," he says, shaking his head and clicking his tongue in disbelief.
"Will you be my Valentine, Toji?" You ask, trying incredibly hard to stay serious, though your lips are quivering, giving away the laughter you're suppressing.
"Yeah, i'll be your Valentine, pretty. Will you be my Valentine?" He asks, in return.
"Yes, i'll be your Valentine," you answer.
"Great. And those plans you made for Valentine's Day... are we still on for that?"
You laugh. He looks like he's genuinely hoping you were joking about shutting it all down.
"Of course we are, baby. The plans were never cancelled. I didn't think you actually believed me."
"You're cold for that, ma. Ice cold," Toji grumbles, earning a chime of your laughter. His hand comes out from under your sweater and travels lower and lower until he's able to grab the back of your thigh and lift your leg over his hip. "Let me warm you up."

pairing: established relationship, nerdy bf!dom!heeseung x gf!reader, hee is around 21/22 in this genre/tags: smut, degradation, humiliation ?, praise kink, dacryphilia, oral (m receiving), facefucking, food play, cum play, cum eating, choking, pet names (princess, pup, darling), use of word daddy (once) words: 981
[ note. ] â happy valentineâs day ig?? iâm single af so i donât have one but heeseung is mine in my head so thatâs all that matters <3
Oh you sad, sad little thing⌠always finding yourself in these compromising situations. The whole morning went as normal with Heeseung, he was super nice to you and smothered you with lots of loving kisses! But once he arrived back home from classes his entire mood shifted completely.
âGet on your knees, wanna use that pretty little mouth of yours right now.â Heeseung was hovering over you as you sat down.
You were just minding your business on the couch eating a bowl of strawberries when he said that to you.
âW-what?â Your eyes bug out of your head like a deer in headlights.
âDid I stutter? On your knees, now.â His tone becomes more stern.
You squirm to get up, not wanting to waste another minute incase he gets angrier. Your body feels shaky from his intimidating persona, he usually comes off as sweet and caring but when heâs mad he becomes almost sadistic.
It didnât take long for him to end up down your throat. All 7 inches of him being taken by you. You kept choking and gagging but the more you did it the more Heeseung would just keep pushing your head back down. His fingers latching onto your hair and thrusting his hips harder to get more of his cock deeper in your throat.
âCâmon, you can take it like the little pathetic slut you are. Youâre my precious little pup right?â
His words made you so fucking wet for him.
You wanted to please him in the best way you could. Bobbing your head back and forth, his spit combined with your saliva all over your face. Heeseung likes it messy though, he also loves shooting his load out on your face after a long day. You acted like nothing but a toy for him to use, just a fuckdoll he can manipulate and dump all his cum into when heâs frustrated.
His glasses were sliding down to his nose as he keeps lowering his head to get a finer view of you. Your fucked out face was so angelic to him, so divine⌠you looked the most beautiful when you had Heeseungâs cock buried in your mouth.
âThere atta-girl⌠such a good little slut for me arenât you?â The way he talks to you will be your true weakness.
You had to prove your love to him. Your devotion. You wanted his cum as a reward so you had to work hard for it and push through the pain. You try humming to loosen up your vocal cords and take him better, the vibrations sent chills up his spine and he almost lost his balance for a second. Feeling the way he throbbed and twitched on your tongue made you moan against his shaft.
âFuck yeah⌠good girl my good little fucking princessâŚâ
You kept letting him throatfuck you and the tears came rolling down now. He loved seeing you become a crying fucked out mess for him, it filled his heart with the utmost joy.
âAww.. my darlingâs getting teary eyed, canât take all of it huh??â
Your jaw hurts so bad but you canât stop now, you have only one goal to achieve and that was to make your boyfriend cum all over your pretty face. His cock slammed into your uvula and you made a loud gagging noise, he would just grin and keep pushing hisself in you relentlessly. He laughed at your misery, the way your knees buckled and quivered while being under him.
He wouldnât be laughing for too much longer though, one more thrust to the back of your throat would leave him nearly unable to talk. His body felt paralyzed. Eyes were violently rolling to the back of his head as he feels his release approaching. He jerks his hips back and quickly pulls out of your mouth. He doesnât bring his cock to your face though, instead his attention is drawn to the bowl of strawberries you were eating from earlier.
He stands in front of it on the couch and viciously strokes his cock, large white ropes of cum come trickling down onto the fresh strawberries. Once he finishes he looks back at you now with an evil grin.
âGet on all fours for me doll.â He instructs you.
You do as youâre told, getting on your hands and knees, crawling your way towards him. He takes ones of the strawberriesâ that are now all coated with his hot delicious cum and brings it to your lips.
âOpen wide.â
You open your mouth and he plops the strawberry in, you immediately close your mouth to start chewing. The strawberry was so sweet and juicy while Heeseungâs cum was warm and salty, this might be the perfect combination youâve ever tried.
âTasteâs good right princess?â
You nod your head and finally speak âYes, so yummy daddy, want to eat more!â
âThen go ahead, eat more.â
You dip your face in the bowl of strawberries and eat another one. You canât get over how good his cum tastes with the savory fruit. He pets the top of your head like you were a kitten, just grinning at the sight of you eagerly eating his cum.
âSuch a naughty little girl⌠you really are a huge slut.â He degrades you more, wrapping his hand around your neck as he lifts you from being on all fours.
Youâre back on your knees again facing him while he kept a tight grip on you. The way this man had you so down bad for him, you were willing to let him do absolutely anything to satisfy his needs. Your body couldnât stop trembling under his touch, he had you perfectly the way he wanted.
âStill look so pretty, even after sucking off my cock..â his hold on you was only getting tighter at this point.
âSo obedient for me, always.â

âI hate him,â you seethe, your fists balled up, crumpling your rejected proposal. âGod, I hate him.â
Your coworker, Joshua Hong, looks up from his cubicle with raised eyebrows. âWho?â
You breathe in deeply, willing your rage to dissipate at the sight of his confusion. Poor Joshua doesnât deserve your anger. âNo one,â you say, clenching your jaw.Â
Open-mouthed, Joshua blinks rapidly, eyes flitting over to glance at the office you had just walked out of. The door to the room is marked with a name plate that has ěľěšě˛ [Choi Seungcheol] in bold, gold letters.Â
âIâm fine,â you insist, hands uncrumpling the document you had just attacked.Â
âUh, okay?â he says with a healthy dose of doubt, elongating the âoâ in âokay.âÂ
âI justââ you begin, then immediately shut your mouth. âUgh, forget it.â
Itâs one thing to crumple a proposal up, and another thing to start bad-mouthing your boss out in the open. You throw the tattered outline onto your desk, then plop yourself onto your chair. You rub your temples, and then mutter under your breath, âHow did I get here?â
âGood question,â Joshua laughs. âCompany synergy?âÂ
You groan, âDonât ever say that word again in my presence.âÂ
âMmh,â he says, walking over to your cubicle. âYou wonât have to worry about my presence in a few months.âÂ
âDonât remind me,â you sigh, dropping your head in your hands.Â
Joshua would be leaving the Seoul branch and transferring to the New York branch in a few weeks.Â
Curse your company for its commitment to âworkplace synergy,â swapping out a handful of employees across all departments in its international branches every few years. If it hadnât been for this horrible program, you wouldnât be here right now.Â
You want to rip out your own hair, at this point.
How did it even get to this? You shut your eyes, thinking back to simpler times.Â
When you first got a job offer at the New York branch of your dream company, your initial reaction was elation. Your second? Doubt. Leaving Seoul was almost unthinkable, not to mention the fact that youâd be leaving your boyfriend behind, too.Â
For the first few days after hearing back from the recruiter, you knew youâd accept, but kept the news to yourself. Youâd heard of so many horror stories about long-distance dating, and after a long period of consideration, you wondered what the point was.Â
You knew your boyfriendâreally knew him. You knew heâd make sacrifices for you at the expense of himself, and it was impossible for you to accept bogging him down with a 14 hour time difference. Heâd stay up waiting for your calls, instead of getting much needed rest. Heâd worry about you all the time, checking the weather in Manhattan instead of Seoul and calling you constantly instead of his family and friends. Heâd wait on you for as long as you needed, in an almost obsessive way, thinking it could make up the difference in distance. But he deserved someone who could love him in person, all of the time.Â
Itâd be better for Seungcheol if you just let him go, freeing him to focus on what mattered more to him. Like work.
He loved you too much to break things off with you himself, so it was better that you did it. For his own good.Â
Thatâs what you told him, at least.Â
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââ Four Years Ago
âCheol,â you said, teary-eyed. âCheol, look at me.â
Seungcheol stared blankly at the ground, face frozen.Â
âPlease?â your voice cracked.
âWho are you to tell me what I can and canât handle?â he suddenly choked out, eyes flashing with hurt. His hands clenched, like he was holding himself back from saying more.
You swallowed thickly, reaching for his arm. âCheol, Iââ
âDonât call me that,â he said, snatching his hand away from you.Â
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââÂ
But you had swallowed the real reasons for the breakup.Â
Because, deep down, you had always suspected otherwise. Somehow, everything had just become so complicated. Loving Seungcheolâwhich had once been something as easy as breathingâhad become a dull pain in your chest, clouding your every thought with insecurities.Â
Even from the start of the relationship, youâd loved him more, anyway. Back then, you didnât mind it because you loved him so much, and he was always so, so sweet to you. But around the time of the job offer, paranoia had reared its ugly head, kicking your uncertain thoughts into overdrive.Â
It was obvious that he didnât really love you anymore. While you were job seeking, he was distracted. Always checking his phone, not really listening to what you had to say. He made time for you, but he didnât necessarily make you feel like he loved you as deeply as you did himâit didnât feel like he was the same guy that you started dating.Â
Something about his actions just felt like he did them to claim that he loved you, rather than because he actually loved you. His actions were laced with a kind of surface level, superficial quality.Â
Heâd take you out to a fancy dinner, open the door for you, pay for the meal, drive you homeâall the gentlemanly things he did when you started dating, too. But on the car ride there and back, and while sitting down eating together, he wouldnât remember the things you had said about the little things happening in your lifeâa major change, when compared to the start of your relationship.Â
And sure, he didnât have an obligation to remember your next door neighbor's name. But shouldnât he remember your favorite kind of pie, or your closest cousinâs name? Shouldnât he just know not to check his phone every time it pings with a new email, or leave you to eat your stupid expensive pasta alone as he takes a call outside?
It was almost like Seungcheol had fallen out of love with you, but was staying with you out of some kind of obligation to continue what he had started? That was your only explanation for why heâd spend time with you, but wouldnât pay close attention to the things you said. Every Thursday was movie night, and in hopes of trying to keep him away from work, you let him choose the movie every time. But what use was that, when he spent more time looking at his phone than the TVâand more importantly, you, for that matter?Â
Youâd been dating a ghost of a man. While you loved him, he tolerated you.Â
If the two of you stayed together when you went abroad, heâd probably double down on texts, but he wouldnât really remember anything youâd said if you mentioned details about them in calls.Â
You didnât bring any of these fears up to him, because you knew that he would continue to deny it. In fact, youâd imagined it in your head so much that you could see it when closing your eyes to sleep. If you confronted him, heâd deny that he didnât love you anymore. But heâd be staring at the ground instead of looking at you. He wouldnât admit that he was only with you because he enjoyed the consistency of your affection, and because he somewhat pitied youâand most importantly to him, because he wanted to prove to himself that he chose correctly when he started dating you.Â
The pain of watching the love of your life push down his repulsion just to be with you was decidedly more horrifying than the pain of breaking up with him altogether.Â
Right before ending things, it had occurred to you that Seungcheol might not have ever loved you in the first place, and that just hammered in the idea that you were making the right decision. Heâd get over the breakup fast. Heâd probably be thankful for it in a few years, even. If you saw him again, youâd both probably laugh, and in his head, heâd realize that he was grateful that you ended things so that he could focus on his real love, his career.Â
If you were honest with yourself, you would admit that there was a bit of selfishness driving the breakup, as well. There was no way you could handle Seungcheol sacrificing things for youâif he lost sleep over you, if he worried about you, if he was distracted by youâbecause you knew he wouldnât be doing it for love.Â
Because he only ever cared out of a superficial need to prove to himself that he made the right decision in asking you out all those years ago. Not because he really loved you.Â
Yes, he probably never loved you, and he would never know the real reason why you ended things.Â
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââ Four Years Ago
âYou give up so easily,â he spat out. âWas I nothing to you?â
Tears were running down your face. âDonât. Donât make this harder than it needs to be.â
Seungcheol laughed, then buried his head in his hands. âGod, to think I almostââÂ
He stopped, jaw tightening, then shook his head like he couldnât believe it.
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââÂ
A hand comes down sharply on your desk, jolting you awake.Â
âSleeping while on duty?â
Wide-eyed, with tear-stained cheeks, you look up to face your ex-boyfriend. âëśěĽë! [Department Head!]âÂ
Upon seeing your red-rimmed eyes, Seungcheol falters.
Swiping at your under eyes quickly, you bow your head to him slightly. âIâm sorry, it wonât happen again.â
He swallows roughly, eyebrows furrowing in confusion. He opens his mouth, like heâs about to ask you why you were crying, and your heart drops.Â
You will crumble if you hear the tone of voice he had used when you broke up with him.
âExcuse me,â you blurt with choked words.Â
You donât dare to look at his eyes. Instead, you get up from your seat, then immediately flee to the bathroom.
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââ Four Years Ago
âYou can focus on work, now,â you squeaked out.Â
Seungcheol scoffed again, a cruel sound of disbelief. âWhat makes you think I give a damn about work right now?â
âDonât you? Always?â you sniffled.
His eyes flashed with something you couldnât quite describe. He seemed angry, but not just at you. At himself, tooâhis hands were balled into fists at his sides, fingernails digging sharply into his palms. His throat bobbed, and you could see the intense restraint he was forcing on himself. He opened his mouth with a sharp breath, then closed it again, as if he wanted to say something but stopped himself.Â
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââÂ
You stare with glassy eyes at yourself in the mirror, trying to calm your racing heart down. It would be alright. You would be alright.Â
If you just focused on your work, it would be fine.Â
Leaving the bathroom, you square your shoulders. Youâll draft up a new proposal that suits his standards, and youâll do it so excellently that he canât possibly reject it.Â
Hours later, and youâre standing outside Seungcheolâs office again. Taking a deep breath, you walk in without knocking or announcing yourself.Â
The stack of papers trembles in your hands as you place them on Seungcheolâs desk. You keep your expression blank, steadying your breath, willing yourself not to let any emotion slip. âThis is the revised proposal.â
Seungcheol doesnât look up immediately. He takes his time flipping through the pages, his expression unreadable. The tension in the room is suffocating, thick with words left unsaid from years ago. You stand stiffly, waiting, watching the way his fingers drag across the paper. Finally, he exhales sharply and sets the proposal down.
The room is unbearably silent as the question of approval hangs in the air. Your heart pounds so loudly you swear he can hear it.
He should say no immediately. It would be the easiest answer. The logical one. The one you expect.
But he hesitates.
His fingers curl against the polished surface of his desk, and his gaze lingers on the documents in front of him for just a second too long. Itâs subtleâanyone else might not noticeâbut you do. His mask falters. Just a flicker.
And for a split second, you let yourself hope.
Then, his jaw tightens. His hands retreat beneath the table, as if physically pulling himself back. When he finally speaks, his voice is steady, controlled, and restrainedânothing like the eager, puppy-like man you knew him as when you first started dating.
âWeâll have to decline,â he says, and itâs final. Unshakable. Like he hadnât wavered at all.
You swallow hard, nodding stiffly as if you hadnât just watched something slip through his fingers. As if it hadnât slipped through yours, too.
âDecline?â you blurt.
His face remains impassive. âYes.â
You blink at him, momentarily stunned. You had anticipated that he would be difficult, but thisâitâs too fast, too dismissive.
You steel yourself. âWhy?â
âItâs not good enough.â
Your fingers clench around the hem of your blazer. âCanât you separate private and work life?â
He meets your gaze, eyes dark and cool. âI am.â His voice is devoid of any warmth. âI donât care. Your proposal is bad.â
The words strike harder than they should, more than just a professional critique. A cruel, deliberate dismissal. You know itâs personalâfor the past two weeks that youâve been at the Seoul branch, it has always been personal when it comes to him. Your blood simmers.
âI see.â You force your voice to remain level. âWould you like to point out whatâs wrong with it?â
His lips press into a thin line. âNo.â
A sharp, bitter laugh escapes you. âOf course not.â
Seungcheol leans back in his chair, arms crossing over his chest. âFour years ago, you didnât choose me. So why should I choose your useless proposal?â
The shift is abrupt, the air sucked out of the room in an instant. Your nails dig into your palms.
âI have never loved anyone more than I loved you.â The words leave your lips before you can stop them, the truth of them ringing through the silence.
He scoffs, but thereâs a flicker of something in his eyes, something raw. âYou left me,â he says, voice edged with something dangerously close to hurt. âYou. Left. Me.â
Your breath shudders. âYou left me first.â
He leans forward, eyes searching yours, like heâs daring you to take it back. âHow?â His voice is quieter now, but no less intense. âHow did I leave you, when I was the one you abandoned in Seoul?â
Your vision blurs slightly. This. This is why it never worked between the two of you. Heâs too bull-headed to even consider that he was in the wrong.Â
You shake your head. âWhy didnât you fight for us?â
His jaw tightens. âWhy didnât you?â
A bitter taste coats your tongue. âYou gave up so easily.â
His eyes flash. âNo,â he says sharply, âyouâre the one who brought up work all the time.â
Your hands tremble. âBecause if it wasnât about work, you wouldnât talk to me!â
That stuns him. His mouth opens slightly, but nothing comes out. His brows knit together, the first crack in his mask of indifference.
You exhale shakily, pressing forward. âBecause if I talked about anything else, I knew you wouldnât listen,â you whisper, voice breaking. âI knew Iâd be talking to a man who loved the idea of me more than he actually loved me.â
Seungcheol flinches as if you had struck him. His throat bobs, hands clenched into fists on top of his desk. âThatâs not true,â he grits out, but thereâs something in his voiceâsomething unsteady, like the words are slipping through his fingers before he can stop them.
âIsnât it?â you press. His breathing turns uneven, his jaw tightening like heâs physically holding himself back.
âYou made me feel like I was a burden,â you continue, the words tumbling out, years of buried pain unraveling in real time. âLike you had to tolerate me between meetings and emails. Like being with me was just another responsibility to check off your list.â
He exhales sharply, like the airâs been knocked out of his lungs. His fingers twitch, gripping the desk so tightly that his knuckles go white. âThatâs notââ He stops, biting his tongue, like even he canât bring himself to finish that sentence.
A bitter laugh escapes you. âYou donât even believe yourself, do you?â
Seungcheol stands abruptly, chair scraping against the floor, his composure unraveling before your eyes. âI worked so damn hard for us,â he says, voice raw.
Your voice is small. âI never asked you to.â
His lips part, and for the first time since you stepped into his office, his expression isnât blank or coldâitâs vulnerable. And it terrifies you.
His expression cracks, pain flickering through his eyes. âI was trying to build a future for you,â he says, voice raw, desperate. âFor us.â
âYou were so busy planning a future that you forgot to love me in the present.â
A tense silence falls between you, the weight of the past pressing down on both of you like an unbearable force. His breaths are uneven, his knuckles white from how tightly heâs gripping the edge of his desk.
Finally, he exhales, a bitter, tired laugh leaving his lips. He looks down at the proposalâstill sitting there, untouched, still rejected.
âThis meeting is over,â he mutters, his voice hoarse.
Your heart clenches painfully, but you nod, blinking rapidly to push back the tears. Without another word, you turn on your heel and walk out, leaving behind the shattered remnants of everything you once were.
When you get back to the safe haven that is your apartment, you retrace everything he had said. Or, rather, the accusations he had thrown at you.Â
âYou left me.â
âI was the one you abandoned in Seoul.â
âWhy didnât you fight for us?â âWhy didnât you?â
âI was trying to build a future for you. For us.â
Your heart strangely aches, remembering how shaken he looked when you called out his workaholic behavior. You had blamed him for the end of it all, but it takes two to end a relationship. Why didnât you fight harder for him, back then?Â
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââ Four Years Ago
Youâre alone now. Itâs what you wanted. To be free from the self-doubt that loving Seungcheol had drilled into you.Â
Your chest constricted so tightly, you couldnât breathe.Â
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââÂ
Two days after the disastrous office meeting, youâve somehow managed to have the misfortune of sitting in front of your ex-boyfriend at a steakhouse for work. The restaurant is dimly lit, the low hum of conversation and clinking glasses filling the space. Your body practically vibrates from the tension.Â
You can see Seungcheolâs gaze turn sharper every time he looks at you, and it makes it all the more insulting when he immediately brightens at Director Chun. You chug another glass of wine, hoping the buzz will numb the annoyance bubbling within you.Â
âThank you, Director,â you say, reaching over the table to shake your superiorâs hand. âIt was a pleasure.â
âNo, thank you, Team Leader,â he chuckles. âWeâre lucky to have such competent, young people working for us. Iâm sure the Brennans will be thrilled to see this project come to a close so quickly.â
Seungcheol laughs. âWeâre lucky to have you, Director.â
Itâs so fake, youâre itching to get rid of the stupid grin off his smug face.Â
âIâm sorry I have to leave so soon,â the director continues. âIâll see you two back at the office?â
âOf course,â you say, standing up and bowing to him as he gets up from his seat.Â
When the director finally leaves, you canât help but swallow roughly. You reach for the wine bottle, refilling your glass for the nth time tonight. The rest of the restaurant is loud, but it is far too quiet in your corner of the room.Â
Now youâre alone with Seungcheol.
The air crackles with an unspoken tension, thick and suffocating. Seungcheol, across from you, has his fingers curled tightly around the stem of his wine glass. His knuckles are practically white, the pressure of his grip betraying the storm raging inside him.Â
He hasnât touched much of his food, and barely spoke beyond a few clipped replies to you. He had really only responded to Director Chun all night. But itâs nothing new. You have long learned to recognize this silence; itâs the same, bitter one that had stretched between you in the months before you left him.
You donât know why you told Joshua you could handle going to this. Why, after everything, did you let Seungcheol pull you into a setting so painfully intimate, so reminiscent of the past? The last time the two of you were in a restaurant like this, he had left for 40 minutes to take a call outside.Â
Seungcheol swirls his drink absentmindedly, watching the ice shift in the glass before finally speaking. âYou look well.â
You let out a breathy laugh, shaking your head. âSmall talk? Really?â
His jaw tightens, and he sets his glass down with a quiet thud. âWould you rather we skip the pleasantries?â
âIâd rather we not pretend this is anything other than what it is.â
âAnd what is it?â
You lift your chin. âYou tell me.â
Seungcheol exhales sharply, dragging a hand through his hair. He looks at youâreally looks at youâfor the first time since you sat down, and it sends a shiver down your spine. Itâs the same expression he made when you were in his arms, four years ago.
The one that made you feel like the only person in the world. The one that he used to assure you that he loved you.Â
And you hate yourself, because you canât help but remember that he looked so good when he was yours. Worse, you canât help but notice how heâs still devastatingly handsome.Â
Only now, his gaze is shadowed with something darker. Something unresolved.
âYou know, when you told me you wanted to end things, I couldâve accepted it,â he says, voice steady, but his fingers twitch slightly against the table.Â
You swallow roughly.
âI couldâve accepted it if you said you just fell out of love with me,â he continues, âBut then.â He takes a deep breath. âBut then, you told me it was for my own good. That I wouldnât be able to handle long distance.â
Your hands grip your wine glass. You want to say something, but you donât know where to even start.
âYou told me you loved me, and thenâŚâ he trails, before shakily saying, âabandoned me, because I couldnât handle it?â He dips his head low, hands joining like heâs about to make a prayer.Â
âCheol, Iââ
âDonât. Just donât.âÂ
Seungcheol stares intensely at his half-eaten steak, a strand of hair coming down from his forehead to poke at his eyes. Despite yourself, your hand instinctively lurches to tuck it behind his ears, before you quickly jolt it back. A cloud of shame begins to envelope your mind. Itâs not fair. Why does your body remember him so well, even after he broke your heart?Â
You swallow thickly, and he takes a shaky breath before speaking again. âAnd you know what, that wasnât even the worst part. What was worse, wasââÂ
He gets choked up, then clenches his hands into fists to ground himself. âWhatâs worse, was what you said at the end.â
You furrow your brows, thinking back to all those years ago, right after you told him that he could finally focus on his work, and right before you walked away from him.Â
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââ Four Years Ago
âIâm sorry for wasting your time,â you whispered. You didnât dare to look at him. âIâm sorry I made you miss that convention for my birthday.â You sniffled, voice breaking. âYou shouldnât have had to do that. Iâm sorry I made you watch those stupid movies, and that I made you go out when you didnât want to. I shouldâve been more considerate of your dreams, Cheol. Iâm sorry, Iâm sorry I only realized it now. I shouldâveââ
You exhaled deeply, blinking your newest tears away. They fell down your cheeks in streams. âYou wonât have to worry about that kind of useless stuff anymore, okay? You donât need to deal with me anymore. Iâm sorry you had to handle all of that for so long. I, I really loâŚâÂ
You bit down on your lower lip, blinking desperately to get rid of your blurry vision. âI hope you get into the accelerator, Cheol. I know how hard youâve worked for it. If anyone can do it, itâs you.âÂ
One last time, you smiled at him weakly, not meeting his eyes. âGoodbye, Cheol.â
And then you turned your back from him, walking away from the love of your life, partly because you really did wish him well on his startup journey, and mostly because you knew he was only with you out of obligation to himselfâbecause he never loved you, anyway.Â
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââÂ
âOh,â you say, eyes feeling strangely prickly.Â
âI loveâI loved you,â Seungcheol says, clutching his chest. He exhales roughly. âDid you not⌠see that?â
You blink rapidly.
His throat bobs as he swallows, eyes darting away for a brief moment. âI had plans for us,â he admits, voice quiet but strained.Â
At the sight of his clear pain, your stomach twists uncomfortably. âPlans?â
He nods slowly, still refusing to meet your eyes. The candlelight on the table flickers between you, casting shadows that dance across his face, highlighting the tension in his furrowed brow.Â
His mouth parts as if heâs about to say somethingâsomething importantâbut then he stops himself.
You reach across the table instinctively, your fingertips grazing his wrist. âSeungcheol. Donât do this to me.â
He tenses beneath your touch but doesnât pull away. Instead, he finally looks at you, and the sheer weight of emotion in his gaze nearly knocks the breath from your lungs. There is something so much in his eyesâanger, regret, sadness, and a deep emotion you havenât dared call love in years. All tangled together in a way that makes it impossible to separate one from the other.
âI was going to propose to you,â he confesses, his voice barely above a whisper.
Your breath hitches. For a second, the world tilts, the steady hum of the restaurant fading into white noise. You blink, your mind scrambling to process the weight of his words. âWhat?â
Seungcheol lets out a short, humorless laugh, shaking his head as if mocking himself. âI had the ring. I had everything planned out.â He exhales sharply, rubbing a hand over his face. âI was just⌠waiting for the right time.â
A sharp, painful lump forms in your throat. âCheolââ
âBut you left before I could,â he cuts in, his voice breaking at the edges. His eyes are glassy now, raw with unshed emotion. âYou thoughtâŚyou thought I didnât love you enough. But I did. I loved you so much Iââ He sucks in a shaky breath, his hands balling into fists on the table. âI was trying so hard to build a future for us. I wanted to give you everything.â
Tears burn behind your eyes, and your hands are still on his arm, but theyâre shaking. âI didnât need âeverything,ââ you whisper. âI just needed you.â
His face crumples for a split second before he forces his expression blank again. âI thought I was doing the right thing.â
Silence stretches between you, thick with everything you had never said to each other. The weight of missed moments, of love given but not received in the way it was needed, settles over the two of you like a monstrous thunderstorm.Â
You swallow down the sob threatening to break free from your throat. âWhy didnât you say anything?â
His voice is hoarse, like he has swallowed glass. âWould it have changed anything?â
You want to say yes. You want to believe that if he had just told you, things would have been different. But deep down, you arenât sure. Because the truth was, you had already been slipping away from each other long before you had walked out the door.Â
You had told him you were leaving him so he could focus on his work. You had told yourself you were leaving him because he didnât love you anymore. So, would you have really believed him if he had proposed to you? Youâre not sure, but thereâs no point in analyzing the hypothetical what-ifs, really.Â
Because now, looking at the man who had once been your world, you wonder if you had ever really left him at all.
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââ Three Years Ago
It was Seungcheolâs birthday. It hit you while you were at the grocery store, in the fresh produce section.
You saw cherries.
You cried.
Later that day, your finger twitched over his contact on your phone, before falling to your hips.Â
He was probably busy. He hadnât texted or called you since the breakup, after all. He definitely wouldnât want to hear from you even if he wasnât busy, anyway.Â
âIâm sorry,â you said out loud, knowing that the person who needed to hear it most wasnât there. âI miss you. Happy birthday.â
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââÂ
You blink, and suddenly youâre outside. Thereâs a chilly wind blowing against you, making you shiver. When you try to take a step forward, you find your body is too sluggish to move much.Â
âYouâve had too much to drink,â Seungcheol says concernedly, his warm, strong hands finding an all too familiar spot against your waist.
âIâm fine,â you say, though your teetering body suggests otherwise.Â
Somewhere between watching Seungcheol laugh at Director Chunâs obviously not funny jokes and trying to give your hand something to do instead of ball into fists hearing his confession, you had drunk far too much of the expensive bottle of wine that the director had bought for the three of you.Â
Seungcheol says your name like itâs a warning, tone firm.Â
But you canât help but laugh. Youâre too close to him now. And oh, heâs so warm. Instinctively, your body presses against him, because itâs familiar and comforting and something youâve subconsciously been craving for the past four years with every fiber of your body.Â
âI missed you,â you blurt.Â
Seungcheol swallows roughly.Â
âFuck, donâtâŚâ He canât even bring himself to finish the sentence. âHow did you get here? Taxi?â
You shake your head. âToo much money. Subway.â
âIâll take you home, okay? Where are you staying now?â He squeezes your waist.Â
âMmh.â Thinking, you close your eyes, fully leaning into his touch.Â
Three days ago, the company told you to move out of the original apartment theyâd placed you in two weeks ago, and although youâd memorized how to get to your new place using the subway, you had yet to memorize the exact address. Youâd always looked at your phone to double check, thinking that youâd be fine if you were stranded, since youâd always have your phone on you. Unfortunately, though, you hadnât considered that youâd be lost if your phone died.Â
âThatâs not an address, sweetheart.â He inhales sharply, realizing his mistake after it leaves his lips.Â
âIâm sorry,â you say with a frown, tears welling in your eyes. âDonât remember.â
Here you were, wasting his time again. Youâd left him four years ago because you were a hindrance to his career, and now youâre doing it again. Old habits die hard, donât they?
You sniffle, âIâll sober up soon, donât worry. You can just leave me here. Iâll walk to the subway.â
Seungcheolâs throat bobs. âHey, hey, donât be sorry. I got you, okay? Iâll take you back to my place, if thatâs okay?â
You nod, your voice small. âOkay.âÂ
He breathes a sigh of relief.Â
Before you know it, Seungcheol has escorted you into the passenger seat of his car, and youâre on your way back to the house you had called your home only four years ago.Â
âDid you miss me?â you ask childishly, staring at the driver with sleepy eyes.
His Adam's apple bobs up and down.Â
For a moment, you donât think heâll answer. But then, he says softly, âI did.â
âOh,â you say, and then you feel your eyelids get heavier. You let them close.Â
Right before you fall asleep, you catch him whispering something that sounds a lot like, âI missed you so much, sweetheart.â
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââ Six Months Ago
You swallowed. âIn the fall?â
âYes,â Director Chun said. âIâll be heading over to the Seoul branch as well, for a few months at the very least. I promise youâll be under one of our best. Department Head Choi Seungcheol is known for being collaborative. Iâm sure the synergy will be great between the two of you.â
You froze. Surely, not.Â
âChoi Seungcheol?â you asked breathily.
âYes. Do you know each other?â
âNo,â you said, far too quickly.
âAh, I see. Perhaps he was impressed by the work you did with the Jeons,â the director said with a smile. âHe requested you directly.â
Oh.
Oh.
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââÂ
Sleep is supposed to be relaxing, isnât it? So why does it feel like your chest is going to cave in on itself, like a big boulder has plopped itself down on you?Â
You open your eyes quickly, only to be met with a mess of short, dark brown hair.Â
You try to blow on the hair, only to feel it enter your mouth. Itâs horribly dry.
âAck,â you spit.
And then it occurs to you that your hair has never tasted like this, or looked like this, for that matter.
You try moving one of your arms to get rid of the annoying strands, only to find that it has also been rendered immobile. You tense your core, trying to flop like a worm, but itâs of no use.Â
You furrow your brows, straining as hard as you can, but nothing happens.Â
For a moment, you wonder if youâre having a nightmare.Â
And then the boulder moves.
Your eyes widen into saucers. Thereâs only one explanation for this. Youâve only ever known one man who gives bear hugs in his sleep like this.Â
âChoi Seungcheol?â
âFuck,â it groans. âThought I told you not to call me that, sweetheart.â
You close your eyes, wondering if youâre still dreaming. But when you open them again, you see Seungcheolâs face.Â
Sleep lines are adorning his left cheek, and he blinks at you slowly. His pink lips are turned down in a slight pout, and the sight of him is so adorable, it makes you want to scream.Â
âDid youâŚâ you pause, mind racking an explanation. âFall asleep on top of me?â
âYou said you were cold,â he says slowly, eyes half-closed, voice deep.Â
âOh,â you say, then flush, feeling heat rush up the back of your neck and reach your ears. Trying to avoid eye contact with him, your eyes stray to your collarbone, and you see that youâre still wearing last nightâs clothes. âWait, did you let me into your bed with dirty clothes?â
âMmph,â he says, rubbing his face into the crook of your neck.Â
âWow,â is all you can manage. He never let you do that when you were dating.Â
âGo back to sleep, love,â Seungcheol mumbles.Â
âCanât breathe, Cheol,â you groan, patting his back. âToo heavy, baby.â
He groans but shifts off of you, then cuddles up next to you, hands finding your waist immediately. âFive more minutes.â
âMmh,â you sigh contentedly.Â
And as you close your eyes again, it occurs to you that Seungcheol is your ex, and that the two of you are definitely doing things that exes should not be doing.Â
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââ Two Weeks Ago
You swallowed your pride. You extended an arm out to him first.Â
âDepartment Head Choi Seungcheol, itâs a pleasure to work with you.âÂ
You spat his first and last name out like venom, knowing all too well that he hated being called by his full name.Â
He stared at your outstretched hand, then scoffed.
Fuck.Â
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââÂ
When you wake up again, youâre alone in Seungcheolâs bed. Out of habit, your arm moves to pat the other side of the bed.Â
For a moment, your mind flashes back to the lonely mornings you had with him four years ago. The days when the first thing you did after waking up was to check the other side of the bed, only for it to be cold. The hope of it all had fractured your heart slowly, but surely.
But today, for some reason, Seungcheolâs side is lukewarm.Â
Confused at the lingering warmth, you sit up in his bed, rolling back the covers.Â
Is it possible that heâs still here?
Then, you smell the distinct scent of ramen through the door to his room, which has been left slightly ajar. Planning on checking the kitchen, you move to get off the bed. But before your feet reach the ground, Seungcheol walks in.
Heâs holding a tiny desk, the kind made for breakfast in bed. On it is a bowl of steaming ramen and a glass of water.Â
âMorning,â he says with a shy smile, and ohâoh, itâs so full of endearment and joy and hope, of all things.
God, something about it is just so, so pure and domestic, it makes your chest constrict. Seungcheol had never made you breakfast in bed when you had dated, because he had always been the first to leave in the morning.Â
But here he is, like he plans on making up for everything starting now.Â
And with how bright his smile is, your heart is aching to just let him.Â
âIs this⌠for me?â you ask in a small voice. Of course, it canât possibly be for anyone but you, but something in you wants Seungcheol to admit it.Â
Seungcheol nods.Â
âThank you,â you say.Â
âRamenâs your favorite hangover meal, right?â
You nod slowly, and Seungcheol grins, like heâs proud of himself for getting it right. But something about it pokes a nerve. What use is there in remembering it now, when youâre not together anymore?Â
He watches you eat slowly, and you raise your eyebrows at the taste.Â
âItâs really good,â you say between bites, giving a thumbs up.Â
âGood,â he says, making intense eye contact with you.Â
Heâs completely focused on you, phone and computer completely out of sight, and it makes you squirm. Now that his attention is on you without any distractions, itâs too easy to see how gorgeous he is.Â
You flush under his attention. âStop looking at me,â you mumble.
âDonât wanna,â he says dreamily, lying on his stomach on the bed, looking up at you with doe eyes.Â
You giggle, covering your face with your hands in embarrassment.
Seungcheol reaches out to swat your hands away from your face, taking the opportunity to hold your hands. When you look at him again, youâre taken aback by how serious he suddenly is.Â
Your laughter fades.Â
He takes a deep breath, and your heart sinks. You already know what heâs going to say.
âCan we⌠try agââ
âCheol,â you gently cut him off, withdrawing your hands from his familiar grasp. âLetâs not⌠weâre notâŚâÂ
âWhy not?â He looks at you innocently, with wide eyes.Â
You take a shaky breath. âI canât do this again, Cheol. Itâs not good for me, and itâs not good for you.âÂ
At first, he just blinks at you, as if he misheard. But then, something in his expression hardens. âWho says youâre not good for me?â
âWhat?â
âWho says youâre not good for me?â
âCheol,â you say with a sigh. âLetâs not do this again. Itâs not gonna work.â
âWho says?â his voice breaks.Â
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââ One Week Ago
âAgain,â he said dryly. âRedo the business model.â
You swallowed back your anger. âYes, Department Head Choi Seungcheol. Is there anything else you would like me to do?âÂ
âCare more,â he said.
You frowned. âI have my full focus on this project, sir.â
âCare more,â he repeated.Â
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââÂ
âIâve changed,â he says frantically. âI can prove it to you, I promise.â
Your chest constricts.Â
âI wonât ever let you be lonely again, I promise. I wonât let it happen, I swear. Iâm so, so sorry I hurt you back then, but Iâm not the same man you left. I will never hurt you again.â
You swallow roughly, the ramen leaving a salty aftertaste in your mouth.Â
âSeungcheolâŚâ
He shuts his eyes tightly, like youâve wounded him.Â
âPlease, call me Cheol again. Please, I canât stand to hear you call me that.â
âItâs your name,â you tell him gently.Â
âNo, itâs not. To you, Iâm Cheol,â he insists stubbornly, crossing his arms. You swallow at the sight. Since when was his body so defined? You have to look away from his pronounced biceps to regain your will.
âLook at me,â he says with a frown. You obliged and he continues, âSweetheart, please. I promise I will never hurt you again. Please, please, take me back.â
On the bed, heâs kneeling now, hands drawn together as if in deep prayer.
âI wonât let work get in the way of loving you. It was horrible and so stupid of me and Iâm so, so sorry but it was only when I lost you that I realized I forgot what the point of working was. It was to provide for you, and I couldnât do that if you were gone because I didnât properly show you the love you deserved. Iâm so, so sorry, my love. Please give me another chance?â
Seungcheol looks at you with so much sadness, but the history you had with his ghost makes you unsure about what to do.Â
âI donât know, CheolâŚâ
He smiles weakly, resigned. âAt least youâre back to calling me Cheol, though. Right?â
You nod slowly.Â
All of a sudden, Seungcheol lights up, like a last-minute godsend of an idea came to his mind. âIf itâs too hard to say yes now, how about taking it slow?â
âWhat does that mean?â His definition of taking it slow probably isnât like yours.Â
âI can take you out on some dates, and then you could decide?âÂ
Your heart sinks. Heâs so hopefulâeyebrows raised, eyes wide, mouth parted.Â
You donât know if you have it in you to say no.
You press your lips together.Â
Seungcheol must have sensed danger in your face, because he immediately interjects with a rushed confession before you even open your mouth.
âI love you. So much. I loved you then, and I loved you after you left, and I love you now. There was no one after you, you know?â He looks a bit crazed, hands scrunching the blankets roughly.Â
Your heart jolts.Â
He continues, âYou were everything to meâand still are. There wasnât a single day that I didnât think about you. But I couldnât bring myself to reach out because I thought you hated me.â
Heâs not exactly wrong. You did hate him. Then again, thereâs a fine line between love and hate. Both are powerful emotions that require you to care about the person in question.Â
âI even quit the startup because I realized it had eaten up all my time, âcause it had taken you away from me.â
You gasp. This was the answer to why Choi Seungcheol, self-made entrepreneur who insisted on refusing to work for anyone but himself, had strangely become the department head of a company that he never had a hand in creating.Â
âI was,â he sighs self-deprecatingly, âunemployed for a while. Until I heard you were working here, and then I made it my mission to climb the ranks until I could ask for you to get transferred to Seoul. And when you accepted, I was soâŚâ
Your heart breaks a little for him.
âI thought it was a sign.â Hesitantly, he clarifies, âThat you might want to try again.â
You inhale sharply. There he goes, again. Talking so sweetly. Back then, that was all he ever did to show you that he loved you. It wasnât enough then, so why would it be enough now?Â
At your silence, Seungcheol hangs his head, and your fingers twitch, wanting to reach out to him.
Except itâs different now, isnât it? Heâs finally doing all the things you once wished he would. Isnât that what you wanted from him? You donât trust him yet. But heâs trying, now, and every muscle in your body aches with an impossibly deep desire to pull him into your arms.Â
You exhale, and out with your breath goes your final worries.
Your lips part before youâve fully decided what to say.Â
"Okay."
Itâs barely a whisper, but it might as well be a strike of thunder with the way Seungcheolâs head snaps up. His eyes widen, mouth parting like heâs afraid he misheard you.
"Okay?" His voice trembles, cautious, like one wrong move could shatter whatever fragile thing is forming between you.
Your throat tightens. The weight of thisâof himâpresses down on you, but you nod anyway.
For a second, he doesnât breathe. Then, his face crumples, and the sheer relief in his expression makes something in you splinter. His hands twitch where they rest on the blankets, like he wants to reach for you but doesnât dare. Heâs waitingâbecause this time, he knows he has to let you come to him.
And you do.
Slowly, hesitantly, you lean forward. His breath hitches, but he doesnât move away. Your forehead brushes his, a soft press that feels like a heartbeat between you. You feel the warmth of his skin, the way his breath mingles with yours in the inches of space that remain.
Seungcheol exhales shakily, like heâs been holding it in for years. His hands hover near your waist, unsure, unsteady. He doesnât pull you closerâheâs learned nowâbut he craves it.
Your eyes flutter shut, leaning into his touch, telling yourself itâd only be for a second. Just long enough to let yourself feel him, really feel him, without the weight of the past crushing you.
His voice is barely above a whisper, breath fanning across your lips. âSweetheartâŚâ
You could fall apart at the way he says it, so quiet, so reverentâlike heâs afraid youâll disappear if he speaks too loud.
Your heart aches for more, but your mind reminds you of how he had left scars in your heart. For now, this form of affection would have to be enough.Â
After a few minutes in his arms, you reluctantly pull away to check the address of your new apartment on your finally-charged phone. Seungcheol drops you off, walking you to your door. You donât invite him in, and he doesnât ask. But something about the way he looked at you, right before you walked inside your apartment, lingers in your mind long after he leaves. Heâd looked at you like youâd hung every glittering star in the sky.Â
Four years ago, you had decided that this gaze was something heâd manufactured while putting up with you. Maybe, you were wrong.
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââÂ
Seungcheol keeps his promise of taking things slow. Heâd arranged for you to meet him at a cafe the next day, and heâs already there when you get there. Itâs a small, cozy place tucked into a quieter part of the city, the kind with warm lighting and the scent of freshly ground coffee drifting in the air.Â
You hesitate for a second when you see him through the window, seated at a booth near the back, fingers idly tapping against the ceramic cup in front of him. Then, before you can second-guess yourself, you push open the door.
His eyes meet yours instantly, and for a moment, he looks breathlessâlike heâs just as nervous as you are. But then he smiles. Itâs a small, careful thing, but it makes your heart drum a little faster anyway. As you approach, he stands up, hand on his heart.
âHey,â he says, voice soft, like heâs afraid to scare you away.
âHey,â you reply, sliding into the seat across from him.Â
The booth is familiar. For a second, youâre struck by the memory of late-night conversations, of stolen kisses over half-finished drinks. You really were deep in love, back then.
You shake the thought away as Seungcheol gestures toward the counter.
âStill the same order?â he asks, the corner of his mouth lifting in something that isnât quite a smirk but close enough that you recognize it as one of his signature expressions. You raise an eyebrow.
âYou think Iâd change it?â
âI donât know,â he admits, tilting his head slightly. âA lot of time has passed.â
You exhale a small laugh. âYeah, well. Some things stay the same.â
Something shifts in his gaze, a flicker of relief, of hope, before he nods. He waves down a barista and places the order without hesitationâexactly how you like it. When the cup is finally set in front of you, you find yourself staring at it for a beat too long, a strange warmth pooling in your chest.
âThanks,â you murmur, wrapping your fingers around the cup.
Seungcheol watches you, his own drink forgotten, but he doesnât push. Instead, he leans slightly forward, forearms resting on the table as he asks, âSo, whatâs new?â
You take a sip, letting the warmth settle in your stomach before answering. âWell, I have a wedding to go to next month.â
His eyebrows lift slightly, intrigued. âOh?â
âYeah. My coworker from the New York branch, Lee Chan, is getting married next month. I gotta fly out for it.â You swirl your drink absentmindedly, watching the steam curl into the air. âItâs kind of crazy. Feels like yesterday he was complaining about bad Tinder dates, and now heâs getting married.â
Seungcheol huffs a small laugh. âGuess he finally found the right person.â
âYeah,â you say, a little softer. âGuess he did.â
Thereâs a pause, and you realize that for all the implications, for the way the topic is naturally leading to the idea of a plus one, you donât bring it up. And, notably, neither does he. The question lingers, unspoken but present. Instead, Seungcheol shifts the conversation.
âYou still baking?â
You groan, dragging a hand down your face. âIf you can even call it that.â
He grins. âThat bad?â
âWorse.â You sigh dramatically. âI was trying to perfect my chocolate chip cookies, right? Like, I found this recipe online, and it looked completely foolproof. But somehow, I nearly burned down my apartment.â
His amusement vanishes instantly. âWhat?â
âI mean, not literally,â you backtrack quickly, waving a hand. âBut there was a lot of smoke. And my oven might hate me now.â
Seungcheolâs brows furrow in concern. âThat apartmentâs new, isnât it?â
You nod. âYeah, company orders. Still trying to get used to it.â
He exhales through his nose, tilting his head as he studies you. âIsnât it hard? Being in such an unfamiliar place?â
You blink, caught off guard. âOh, uh, I guess?â
His tone is casualâtoo casualâbut youâre not oblivious. You see the way he watches you intently, the way heâs gauging your reaction. He thinks heâs being subtle, but itâs clear what heâs hinting at. Someday, maybe you wonât have to be in an unfamiliar place. Maybe you could come back home, to me.
You let out a small breath, looking down at your drink. âItâs fine,â you say after a moment. âItâs just an adjustment.â
Seungcheol doesnât push, but his fingers tighten slightly around his cup. âIf you ever need anythingâŚâ
âI know,â you say, and you mean it. Because for the first time in a long time, it feels like he actually means it, too.
The conversation shifts again, moving from baking disasters to random anecdotes about work, about old stories that slip out without either of you realizing. And throughout it all, you notice something: Seungcheol is listening.
Not just nodding along, not just waiting for his turn to speak. Heâs really listeningâleaning in, responding at the right moments, his gaze locked on yours with a kind of attentiveness that makes your stomach flip in a way you donât want to acknowledge yet.
Itâs different. Heâs different.
And maybe, just maybe, thatâs why this doesnât feel like a mistake.
Fuck, do you love him, still?
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââÂ
After the weekend cafe date with Seungcheol came the work week, much to your displeasure. Today has been an especially exhausting day. The kind that seeps into your bones, weighing down your limbs, making even the simple act of unlocking your apartment door feel like a chore. You barely manage to kick off your shoes before collapsing onto the couch, groaning into the cushions.
You didnât even hear your phone buzzing at first. It takes a few rings before you muster enough energy to blindly fumble for it.
âHello?â Your voice is muffled, with your face buried against the pillow.
âYou sound dead,â comes Seungcheolâs voice, laced with amusement but tinged with concern.
âFeel like it too,â you groan. âLong day.â
There was a pause on the other end. Then, softly, âHave you eaten?â
âI had lunch,â you say.Â
Another pause. Then, decisively, âIâm coming over.â
âWhat? No, you donât have toââ
âToo late. Iâm already on my way.â
And just like that, the call ends. You blink owlishly at your screen, a bit too drained to call him back in protest.
Twenty minutes later, a knock comes from your door.
When you open it, Seungcheol stands there, hair still slightly tousled from the wind outside, carrying a takeout bag in one hand and a six-pack of your favorite drinks in the other.
âYou used to drink these when you were stressed,â he says, holding up the pack as if that explains everything.
Your heart does something funny in your chest, but do your best to ignore it. Instead, you step aside, letting him in for the first time.Â
Seungcheol makes himself comfortable in your kitchen, as if itâs the most natural thing in the world. He unpacks the food and searches for utensils without asking you for help. And before you know it, youâre sitting at your small dining table, warm food in front of you, while he nudges a drink toward your hand.
The silence is comfortable. You didnât realize how much you needed this until nowâuntil the tension in your shoulders starts to ease, until the simple act of eating next to someone who cares about you makes the world feel a little less heavy.
At some point, you sigh, rolling your neck to work out a kink. You hadnât meant for it to be noticeable, but Seungcheol caught it immediately. Without a word, he shifts his chair closer and places a warm hand against your shoulder, thumb pressing gently into the tension there.
You freeze.
âItâs okay,â he murmurs, voice softer now. âI got you. Just relax.â
And somehow, without even thinking, you do.
It isnât grand, or dramatic, really. Itâs just the quiet comfort of someone who knows you better than you thought he did. Who is all of a sudden remembering the little things, after all these years. He eases the weight of the world off your shoulders without even trying.
You donât pull away.
And neither does he.
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââÂ
A week later, and the workday is winding down. But the plans youâve been looking forward toâa nice dinner that feels like a step forward, another stitch in the frayed edges between you and Seungcheolâsuddenly teeter on the edge of collapse.
Youâre gathering your things when Director Chun steps into the office, looking around before his gaze lands on Seungcheol.
"Department Head Choi Seungcheol," Chun calls, his voice even but firm. "I need you to stay back for a bit. The New York office just called me about a misalignment between Mr. Hanâs vision and the work we submitted to their team. We need to smooth it over before tomorrow morning. I estimate it wonât take very long."
Your breath catches. Director Chun always sugarcoats things. It wouldnât be just a couple more minutes, itâd be several hours of extra work.Â
Itâs just a few words, a simple request by the director. But itâs enough to send you spiraling.
Because you've been here before.
You know how this story ends.
Your grip tightens around the strap of your bag as a million thoughts flood in, rapid and overwhelming. Heâs going to say yes. Of course, heâs going to say yes.Â
Work will always come first. It always has, always will.Â
Heâll put you second again, and youâll be left waiting, just like before.
The words you want to sayâplease donât go, pick me, just this onceâstick like molasses to the back of your throat.
You canât stay here to hear him confirm it. You canât bear to watch it happen all over again.
You walk away before Seungcheol answers the director, your feet carrying you toward the stairwell in a daze. The second the heavy door shuts behind you, a shaky breath escapes your lips. Your fingers press against your temples as you squeeze your eyes shut, willing away the sting that threatens to turn into tears.Â
Your chest constricts so harshly, you think you might be having a heart attack.
It shouldn't hurt this much.
But it does.
The past and present blur together in your mindâmemories of cold dinners, of unanswered texts, of waiting and waiting and waiting. Until you stopped waiting altogether.
Why on earth did you think that things would be any different, now?Â
The door swings open with a rush of air.
"Sweetheart?"
Your stomach drops.
Seungcheol steps inside, eyes scanning the dimly lit stairwell before landing on you. His brows pull together in concern as he closes the distance between you.
"Hey," he murmurs, reaching out hesitantly. "Whatâs wrong?"
You shake your head, stepping back before his fingers can brush against your arm. "You donât have to be here, Cheol."
He frowns. "What are you talking about?"
Defeated, you let out a humorless laugh, gesturing vaguely. "You donât have to chase after me just to make me feel better about you choosing work over dinner. I get it. I know how this goes."
A pause. Then, softly, "Is that what you think happened?"
The sincerity in his voice makes you falter.
You blink at him, your heart pounding, confusion creeping in through the cracks of your resolve. "What do you mean?"
Seungcheol exhales, running a hand through his hair before stepping closer. This time, you donât move away.
"I told Director Chun I couldnât stay," he says, voice steady. "I told him I had a prior commitment, and that I wasnât going to break it."
Your eyes widen comically. "What?"
His lips twitch into something thatâs not quite a smile, but close. "I said no, sweetheart. I told him I had somewhere more important to be."
More important.
Your throat tightens.
"Youâ" The words catch, and you swallow hard, trying to process it. "You said no?"
"I did." His gaze softens, the weight of the moment settling between you. "I told you I wouldnât let work come between us again."
His voice is quiet, but it carries yearsâ worth of unspoken apologies.
Of love that had once been misplaced, misdirected, but never truly lost.
Your eyes flicker over his face, searching. And the truth is written in the way he looks at youâopen, unwavering, as if heâs willing you to believe him.
And you do.
Itâs terrifying how easily you do.
The wall youâd built, the one meant to protect you from this very moment, begins to crumble under the warmth in his gaze.
Your breath shudders. "CheolâŚ"
His hand lifts, hovering near your cheek, close enough that you can feel the heat of it but not touching. His wide, sparkling eyes look eagerly into yoursâgiving you the choice, letting you decide.
Your chest tightens at his cute patience, the silent question lingering between you.
The space between you grows smaller.
You donât know who moves first, but suddenly, youâre impossibly close, the tips of your noses nearly brushing. His breath fans over your lips, and your eyes flutter shut.
He doesnât move to kiss you, but thatâs okay. Because youâre finally ready to cross that line.Â
Tilting your chin up into him, your lips meet, and the warmth of him grounds you in a way that nothing else ever replaced, or ever could. His lips are so, so, soft, and as he melts into the kiss, he lets out a small content sigh. Everything about the kiss is familiar, and yet, somehow different. Itâs charged with a kind of electric buzz, the tension from the past weeks finally coming to a head.Â
For a moment, the world is still. You only see Seungcheol.Â
Then, in a voice so soft it almost disappears into the quiet of the stairwell, Seungcheol parts from your lips for just a centimeter, whispering, "I meant what I said. You donât have to worry anymore. Iâm 110% for you, I love you."
You close your eyes, exhaling against his skin, relishing his touch. You say the next words with a full chest, âI love you so much, Cheol.â
Because for the first time in a long time, you believe him.Â

UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: i bet you ten bucks my night is going worse than yoursÂ
YOU: thatâs definitely impossible so i will happily take that bet and your moneyÂ
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: remember how iâve been doing toddâs sonâs science project for the past week?
YOU: yeah because the kid sucks at science
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: i finally finished it and gave it to todd today. he hated it and ripped it to shreds right in front of my face (i kinda blame this dumbass juice diet heâs on for him being much more of an asshole than usual). anyway, now iâm gonna have to spend all night doing a new projectÂ
YOU: holy fuck
YOU: you win
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: i would like cash pleaseÂ
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: what bullshit are you being subjected to right now?Â
YOU: at 8 kristen said she didnât want dinner because she wasnât going to be âstaying late tonight.â and then twenty minutes ago she asked me where her dinner was and gave me the most annoyed look when i said i didnât have itâŚ.
YOU: now iâm waiting in the lobby for a delivery guy to get here with pasta :)
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: ouch
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: want some company down there?
YOU: are you just asking that because you want your money?
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: maybeâŚ.
YOU: evil man!

âThe jokeâs on you because I donât have ten bucks right now, so youâll have to wait until tomorrow for your money,â You told Steve when he walked into the lobby.Â
âI was lying. I donât care about the money. I really came down here to keep you company,â He said as he joined you by the front door.Â
You couldnât help but roll your eyes at him. âOh, whatever.â
He only smiled at you. âSo, how much longer until the delivery guy gets here?â
You took another look at your phone and then showed it to Steve. âLess than a minute. His carâs down the street.â
âHow annoyed is Kristen?â
âShe got pulled into a Zoom call with the team in LA right after scolding me, so Iâm ninety-five percent sure she hasnât noticed Iâm gone yet.â
âThatâs good.â
âIs Todd gone for the night?âÂ
You kind of had a feeling that you already knew the answer to your question because Steve looked more relaxed than normal; his white button-up shirt was untucked from his nice black dress pants and the tie that was around his neck and tucked under the collar of his shirt was loosened too.Â
âYeah, he left right after destroying the science project.â
You shook your head in disbelief. âI still canât believe that happened.â
Steve let out a tired sigh that you were certain wouldnât be his last of the night. âWhatâs another suitable project for a fifth grader?â
âSorry, but Iâm not brushed up on the current fifth-grade education system,â You joked, giving him a teasing smile. When he didnât match it, you held up your hands in mock surrender. âOkay, sorry, Iâll save all my jokes for when this is no longer a problem for you.â
His lips twitched upward in the smallest amused smile. âHow many do you have?â
âOh, a full stand-up set pretty much, but Iâll save it for tomorrow,â You said, trying to make your voice sound as serious as possible.Â
He smiled wider then and seeing him look at least a little less stressed felt like a success in your book. You knew that he wouldâve done the same for you if the roles were reversed in this moment, and there were many times when he had done the same. Made a joke when you didnât even know you needed to hear one, but it still made your day better, or told you a random story about nothing when you needed a breather from thinking about work.Â
This friendship you two had made your job feel a thousand times more bearable, and you were so glad that you met him eight months ago. That abrupt introduction had been another middle-of-the-night lobby situation like this one; when it seemed like everyone in the building was done and gone for the day, except for you two and your workaholic bosses. Both of you were waiting for meals from the same diner, which you didnât even realize until your separate delivery drivers almost mixed up the orders. It was a mix-up that was luckily fixed before it descended into a bigger issue with your respective bosses.Â
You two ended up talking a lot on the elevator ride up to your floors and found out just how much you two had in commonâ both of you being assistants to insane bossesâ and the rest was history.Â
âThank you. Thatâs very considerate,â Steve said to you now, placing a dramatic hand over his heart, which made you laugh.
Before you could say something to keep this playful banter going, you noticed the car pulling up in front of the building. You met the delivery guy halfway and let out a quick âThanksâ when he handed over the food to you. You did a quick look through of what was in the bag and smiled in relief when you saw that everything was there.Â
âHow long do you think youâre gonna have to stay tonight?â Steve asked you on the elevator ride back up.Â
âNo idea,â You took a look down at your phone. âSheâll probably eat this once her Zoom call ends in thirty minutes, and then hopefully want to leave for the night.â
âNice, then youâll actually be able to get more than four hours of sleep.â
âFingers crossed.â
The elevator came to its stop on the fifteenth floor and the doors opened, which marked your cue to leave.Â
You took a few steps and then turned around to face Steve again, giving him a quick wave. âGood luck tonight, Harrington.â
âThank you. Iâm gonna need it,â He responded, waving back as the doors finished closing.Â
You avoided looking at all of the empty cubicles that took over the space in the officeâ desks that had been left hours agoâ and simply went to your desk that sat right outside Kristenâs office. You could faintly hear her talking through the shut glass door.Â
You used the downtime to busy yourself with random work rather than doing anything remotely interesting or simply taking a break and doing nothing. You double-checked what Kristenâs calendar schedule looked like for the next few weeks and made sure that everything was in order, and then you went to your work email although nothing new had come in in the last thirty minutes.Â
When the time hit 10:03pm and you heard the door open and then saw Kristen walk out, you stood up from your chair and grabbed the bag with the food off your desk.Â
âHi, I have your dinner here.â
She gave you a confused look and it was then that you noticed that her coat was on and her purse was hanging on her shoulder. âI donât want that. It was supposed to be an early night, remember? Iâll see you in the morning.â
You nodded immediately at her words instead of doing anything else. You, of course, did not tell her that she had asked you to get her food, and you of course definitely did not ask her if ten oâclock could really be considered an âearly nightâ given that the night was pretty much already halfway done and it was basically Friday.Â
Nope, you didnât say any of that, because even though Kristen was nothing but contradictory at times, which made your job absolutely suck, you still liked having one at the end of the day.Â
âOkay, got it. See you tomorrow,â You told her, forcing a smile.Â
She nodded at you and then her eyes fell to her phone as she walked off.Â
You let out a tired sigh once you were certain she was out of earshot and then sat down once again. You couldâve grabbed your own jacket and bag and followed suit, leaving for the night and getting more than four hours of sleep just as Steve had mentioned and you had crossed your fingers in the elevator hoping it would happen.Â
However, you didnât slip on your coat or reach under your desk to grab your bag. Instead, you pulled out your phone.

YOU: kristenâs gone for the night
YOU: do you want help with the science project?
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: please yes. definitely. thank you.
.ăťă.ăťăâăť.ăťâŤăťăăťă. .ăťă.ăťăâăť.ăťâŤăťăăťă
You and Steve stared at the blank tri-fold poster board as you two ate the Alfredo pasta that had been meant for Kristen.Â
The idea for the project had already been decided; it was some sort of chemical reaction thing, seeing how food coloring and dish soap react to being put in different types of milk. Steve showed you a video about it and it actually seemed really cool.Â
After finishing the pasta, doing the experiment itself took less than thirty minutes because everything you needed for it was luckily spread about both of your break rooms and then it was just a matter of typing everything up and making the poster board look nice.Â
âSo, where does this situation lie on the worst things Todd has ever made you do? Is it breaking the top three?â You asked as you stood next to the printer on Steveâs desk and he typed away on his laptop.Â
âDefinitely,â He didn't hesitate to answer. âI think this takes the third spot that was previously held by him making me drive to the airport two hours away to pick up his mom.â
âFuck, I always forget about that,â You told him. âIf we knew each other when that happened a year ago, I wouldâve happily gone with you. I love a long car ride.âÂ
âAnd I wouldâve definitely taken you up on that offer because that was the worst drive ever.â
âGod, how did you survive before we knew each other existed eight months ago?â You asked jokingly and hearing his initial laugh in response made you smile.Â
âIt was really hard, I honestly donât know how I managed,â He responded playfully, making you smile wider. âHas your top three with Kristen changed recently?âÂ
âNope, the third is the cheese incident, the second is the dog thing, and the first is still all of the shit I had to do the day she interviewed her favorite director for the website.â
You still considered that the worst day you ever had being Kristenâs assistant. She had wanted to make sure that everything was perfect for that interview she had been working for months to get with the infamous Matt Scott, so you had gotten stuck with doing a bunch of tedious tasks. It was still hard for you to look at Skittles and not feel immediate disdain because you had to sort through so many packs of them that day since he weirdly only liked the red and yellow ones.Â
The only good thing that came out of that day was that the interview went really well and it was what skyrocketed the website into how big it currently was, and it was still growing.Â
You remembered when you randomly stumbled upon the website three years ago. It was a mix of reviews, essays, and articles discussing movies and television shows, all of which interested you a lot, and you liked the website so much that you continuously kept up with it. And the day that you found out that the woman behind the entire thing needed an assistant, you jumped at the opportunity. It didnât take you too long to realize that you hated being an assistant, but you were really good at it and you also really loved being a part of that environment; surrounded by other people who loved movies and TV and were actually making a living out of writing about it.Â
âI just learned that Todd loves one of the horror movies that that director did. âThe Damnedâ something I canât remember the full title of it,â Steve said, not looking up from his laptop and continuing to type as he talked. He was a weirdly good multitasker; youâd learned that early on in your friendship, but it still always really impressed you.Â
âThe Damned Rabbit,â You told him as you started cutting out the pictures on the pages you just printed. âThatâs Kristenâs favorite too. I can usually stomach most horror movies, but that one was way too gory for me.âÂ
âDo you think I would like it?â
âDidnât you say that you got scared watching the Goosebumps show when you were a kid?âÂ
Steve looked away from his laptop and at you then. âI honestly donât remember telling you that, but yeah thatâs true.âÂ
You shrugged. âI remember all conversations we have regarding any TV shows or movies.âÂ
His head tilted a bit and he gave you a look that you didnât take notice of because you were focused on properly cutting out the pictures. âAnd Iâm assuming youâre using that information to judge me and my taste.âÂ
âNo, of course not,â You told him, making your voice sound completely serious, and then you smiled. âI already know you have shit taste in movies, so thereâs no need for me to collect any more data about that.â Â
He placed an overdramatic hand over his heart. âOuch, that hurts. Truly. Badly.â
You couldnât help but laugh as you finally looked at him. âSorry, that was mean.â
âVery much so,â Steve agreed with a nod. âPlease take that back and admit that I have the best taste ever.â  Â
You shook your head as you smiled. âIâd rather not lie to you right now.â Â
He playfully rolled his eyes at you and then went back to focusing on his laptop. He finished typing out everything and then printed it all and you helped him cut everything out once you were done with the pictures. You two then set everything up in what felt like good places on the tri-fold and glued it down. The project definitely looked rushed, but it also looked like a fifth grader did it, so in your eyes it was perfect. And by the time one in the morning rolled around, both your and Steveâs tired eyes and lack of sleep thought it was the best thing either of you had ever done.Â
âI canât wait until Christmas comes and he goes to New Jersey to visit his family,â Steve said as you two began the cleanup process. âI think Iâm gonna go into hibernation for that entire week.â
You nodded in agreement, balling up scraps of paper and tossing them into the garbage and deciding against reminding him that Christmas was over two months away, and then you remembered something. âKristenâs also from New Jersey.â
âSmall world,â Steve said. âYâknow our bosses are actually really alike. Even aside from them being assholes a lot of the time, they kinda have a lot in common. From the same state, same favorite movie, same favorite food place.â
You nodded along to his words again, thinking about the fact that them both loving that small mom-and-pop diner twenty minutes away was the reason why you and Steve had met in the first place. âYeah, youâre right.â Â
âHonestly, theyâd probably be perfect for each other,â Steve joked with a laugh.Â
And even though you knew he was joking, you immediately didnât see it that way.Â
âOh my god,â You stopped what you were doing and looked at Steve, who was now looking at you very confused. âYouâre right.âÂ
His eyebrows furrowed as he shook his head. âI was kidding.âÂ
âYes, I know you were, but youâre actually so right. They would be perfect for each other,â You told him. âWe should set them up.âÂ
Steve only shook his head again. âAlright, I think the sleep deprivation is getting to you because youâre saying insane things right now. Weâre not gonna get our bosses to date.â
You ignored his words. âI canât believe we didnât think of this idea before. Itâs just like Clueless.â
âOkay, I have no idea what weâre talking about anymore.âÂ
âYou havenât seen Clueless?â
âNo.â
âWow, and you wonder why I say your taste in movies is bad,â You said and then shook your head. âSo, thereâs this one part where the main girl decides to set up two of her teachers because one of them is a hard grader. And once heâs happy and in love, he starts giving all of the students good grades and whatever, whatever. Anyway, all of that to say, if we set up our bosses and theyâre happy and in love with each other then they probably wonât be assholes to us anymore.âÂ
After a few moments of considering your words, Steve nodded. âHonestly, thatâs kind of a good idea.â
âExactly,â You said and smiled. You were still very tired, but you were now also hit with a random burst of energy at the thought of your job maybe becoming a lot less annoying.
âSo, how do we do this?â Steve asked.
You considered his question for a second. âOkay, so as far as we both know theyâve never met each other, which means that we need to get them to meet and we need to give them a good meet cute.âÂ
âOkayâŚâ Steve started, thinking of something as he sat back down in his desk chair and you leaned back against the desk. He looked up at you. âWhat about the elevator? Maybe we can figure out a way to get them stuck in it together? Thatâs a classic âmeet cute,â right?â
âThatâs good, but it doesnât feel like enough,â You said, looking away from him and trying to think of romcoms you liked, and then it hit you. âOh, what if we got them on the kiss cam at like a basketball game or something?âÂ
The amused look that Steve gave you in response was immediate. âOkay, now I definitely know that the sleep deprivation is getting to you because doing that would be impossible.âÂ
âYeah, but maybe not if weâŚâ You trailed off, hoping that the rest of the idea would come to you, but it didnât. âShit, youâre right. It would be impossible. Elevator it is.âÂ
Steve nodded. âI actually know the maintenance guy that works here, so itâll probably be easy to get Todd and Kristen stuck together.âÂ
Your eyebrows knit together in confusion. âHow do you know the maintenance guy?â
âLong story,â He answered and you decided against questioning him further on it right then.Â
âIf it wasnât one in the morning, Iâd love to hear that,â You said, and then you almost asked him when you two should put this plan into motion, but you realized something. âWait, shit, we canât just get Kristen and Todd into an elevator and hope for the best. We need to, like, âplant some seedsâ first. Make them aware of each other and these few things that we know they have in common.âÂ
âOh, okay, yeah, that makes sense.â
âSo we just need to subtly mention to both of them that theyâre from the same state and that they have the same favorite movie and food place,â You continued.Â
Steveâs confused look returned. âAnd how do we do that?â
âGreat question,â You said and for a second you considered trying to think of an answer right then, but your brain was too tired to come up with any ideas. âIâm not sure yet, but weâll figure it out.â

UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: solid joke
YOU: thanks. i try
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: do you think youâre gonna have to stay late again tonight?Â
YOU: i am almost certain of it (sadly)
YOU: kristenâs been extra stressed today which means extra scary which means i live here now
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: ouchÂ
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: have you thought more about how we should do this set up thing?
YOU: no. iâve had like a thousand things thrown at me since getting here at eight and i havenât had time to think about anything else
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: same hereÂ
YOU: wow weâre really good at this
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: haha i agree

The printer was on its last few days of life. You were certain of it, but you just needed it to survive a few more minutes before it completely croaked out on you.Â
âPlease just ten more pages and then I promise you can go into retirement.âÂ
âAre you talking to the printer again?â Steve asked from where he was currently sitting at your desk.Â
After Todd left for the night at ten, Steve showed up at your floor, knowing that Kristen had been gone for the last hour, but you were still stuck in the building and working on preparing everything for a meeting on Monday.
You looked over at him. âSometimes Jerry needs some words of encouragement.âÂ
âGot it. That makes sense,â He responded teasingly with a nod.Â
âI donât appreciate the sarcasm tonight, Steven,â You said as you turned your focus back on the printer, and Jerry was printing out the final few pages.Â
âDoesnât me helping you right now cancel out the sarcasm?â
You promptly shook your head. âNot after the science project last night.â
âAlright, thatâs fair,â He responded and once you sat down next to him after everything was finally printed out, he looked at the stack of papers in your hand. âHow many packets do you have to make?â
âTwenty,â You answered. âAnd then I need to do the name cards and set everything up in the conference room.â
âOkay. Let me get half of the stack,â He said and you handed over half of the papers in your hand.Â
You two easily fell into a routine for the next thirty minutes, a comfortable silence lingering as you focused on the mundane task at hand and let your mind wander a bit. The initial excitement you had toward the âset upâ idea had worn off by the morning and instead your non-sleep deprived brain was now thinking about it all from a much more logical standpoint.
âDo you think it would actually work?â You asked once you two were in the conference room, you placing name cards down and Steve setting out the packets. âUs trying to set them up?â
He gave you an amused smile. âYouâre second-guessing things already? I thought I would be the one to do that.â
âI donât know,â You shrugged. âIâve just started thinking that maybe it will be a waste of time.â
You decided against adding that your reasoning for thinking that way was because your and Steveâs life wasnât a movie and maybe this idea did sound a bit too good to actually end up working as well as it did when it was a plot point in any film. And the thought of Kristen somehow figuring out what you and him were doing and firing you because of it kind of scared you too.Â
âOkay, yeah, maybe it wonât work,â Steve said. âBut, why not try, right?âÂ
You considered his words for a moment before ultimately nodding. It felt a little unexpected, but also completely reassuring, that he was entirely on board with the idea and didnât seem to have any second thoughts about it. âYouâre right. Maybe weâll at least get a week or two of them being decent to us.â
Steve nodded in agreement. âYeah, exactly, and that would be great.â
You shook your head and let out a quiet laugh as you thought of something. âJesus Christ, I canât believe the bar is so low that the thought of our bosses being nice to us for a week or two sounds amazing.â
Steve laughed too, a quick one that matched your own. âShit, yeah, thatâs actually a little sad.â
It would be a thousand percent sadder if you didnât have each other through this shitty nonsense, but you didnât tell him that right then. Instead, you gave him a small smile and placed down the last name card you had in your lap.
âI have some ideas about how we should âplant these seedsâ and get them to learn about each other without them knowing that weâre doing that,â Steve said after he set down the last packet.Â
You were technically officially done for the night, but neither of you made any move to leave the conference room just yet. You sat down in one of the rolling chairs and Steve took a seat in the one across from you.Â
âI kinda love that the tables have turned and youâre the one thatâs super into this whole thing and Iâm being slightly hesitant,â You told him, the smallest amused smile on your face.Â
âYeah, you corrupted me and now youâre backing out.â
You couldnât help but laugh at how playfully serious his voice sounded. âI promise Iâm not backing out. Tell me all of your ideas, Harrington.â

MONDAYÂ
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: i âaccidentallyâ emailed todd the video of the interview kristen did with the horror movie director guy and he ended up watching the entire thing
YOU: solid work
YOU: and on my side of things, i mentioned the new jersey thing to kristen when she brought up thinking about going home for the holidays and she actually found it a little interesting
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: also solid work
TUESDAY
YOU: okay kristen said she wants to get food from the diner for lunch. what about todd?Â
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: he wants it too. it surprisingly took very little convincing to get him to quit the juice diet
YOU: great. iâll see you in the lobby in 30 minutes
YOU: wait iâm just now realizing how horrible this can go for us if we switch their lunches just for them to learn that they have the same favorite restaurant. maybe we should just say that the lunches âalmostâ got switched and still make the comment about how the person that it almost got switched with really loves the place too? thatâll let them know that they have the same fave restaurant without them getting mad at us for fucking up their lunches
YOU: or maybe i'm just overthinking this
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: no you're right. thatâs a better ideaÂ
WEDNESDAY
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: slight change of plans. we have to push the elevator thing to tomorrowÂ
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: the maintenance guyâs not here today
YOU: okay
YOU: i was gonna ask if we should take this as a sign to not do it at all but iâm not gonna say that actuallyâŚ
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: itâs not a signÂ
YOU: good thing i didnât say it was then :)
.ăťă.ăťăâăť.ăťâŤăťăăťă. .ăťă.ăťăâăť.ăťâŤăťăăťă
You made it to the maintenance room before Steve. Mainly because you were a little nervous to see how all of this would end up playing out, and being two minutes early somehow helped ease your worries a bit.Â
When you walked in, you immediately saw a guy with long curly hair wearing a black t-shirt and dark jeans and sitting at a desk with two computer screens; you assumed he was the maintenance guy Steve talked about.Â
You gave him a quick wave and then held out a hand. âHey, nice to meet you.â
His hand shook your outstretched one and quick introductions were said where you learned his name was Eddie and he and Steve went to high school together and were now friends; which wasnât as long of a story as Steve had initially made it out to be.Â
âSo, youâre the infamous âgirl from work.ââ
You let out a laugh at Eddieâs words. âSteveâs mentioned me before?âÂ
Eddie nodded. âOh, he talks about you a lot.â
Before you could say anything in response to that, Steve walked into the small room. Â
âSorry, Iâm late,â He said, even though he was actually right on time. He looked at Eddie and a confused look crossed his face. âWhereâs Wayne?â
âHe still has the flu, so he wanted me to cover for him today,â Eddie answered. âBut, he told me what you guys wanna do, so I got it.â
âOkay,â Steve nodded and then he gestured between you and Eddie. âYou two met?âÂ
âYes, and I just learned that you allegedly talk about me a lot,â You said and gave him a teasing smile.Â
You immediately noticed his face flush at your words, which actually kind of surprised you and for the briefest second you wondered what that reaction meant, but then he was playfully rolling his eyes at you. âItâs only so my friends know that I donât completely hate my job.â Â
âGlad to know that Iâm the only one who makes your job somewhat tolerable,â You said, smiling wider at him. âThe feelingâs very mutual.â
You looked away from him then and focused on the computer screens. Eddie had now pulled up the video feed of the security camera in the lobby on one side and the hallway where the main elevators were on the other screen.Â
âSo, Kristen should be getting back from the coffee shop down the street any second now,â You told Steve. âShe always likes going right before they close for some reason.â
He nodded at your words. âOkay, and Todd is still in the lobby talking to Martha about getting a new building ID, and they should be done any second too.â
âI still donât get how you managed to get her to call him down for that.âÂ
He gave you a smile. âThe ladies at the front desk love me.â
âHonestly, that makes a lot of sense,â You responded. âYou are the type of person that old ladies would love.â
âIâll happily take that as a compliment.âÂ
âRemember how all the moms in town were completely obsessed with you during your lifeguard days?â Eddie chimed in, a grin on his face.Â
Steve rolled his eyes in response, and you laughed while saying, âOf course, you were a lifeguard. That makes so much sense too.â
His eyebrows furrowed in confusion. âHow?â
You shook your head. âI donât know how to explain it, but just know that it does. And I mean it in a nice way.â
Steve tilted his head and squinted at you. âI donât know if I believe you.â
âTrust me, Iâm your best work friend. Iâd never lie to you,â You said, holding a solemn hand to your heart, and he couldnât help but let out a laugh.Â
You looked at the screen again and saw that Todd was still talking to Martha, and Kristen was still nowhere to be seen.Â
You tapped Eddie on the shoulder to grab his attention. âIf one of them gets to the elevator before the other is there, is there any way that you can not let the elevator come?â
He nodded. âYeah, thatâs fine.â
Luckily, and surprisingly enough though, it didnât have to come to that. Because finally Kristen was walking back into the building and heading toward the elevators, and seconds later Toddâs conversation with Martha was coming to an end and he was heading in the direction of the elevators too.Â
Kristen pressed the up button and then her eyes went down to her phone in her hand, and Todd joined her in waiting after a few moments. Absolutely nothing was said between the two of them, not even when the elevator arrived and they got on together. Which, honestly, made sense to you because you rarely ever talked to the strangers you ended up in an elevator with.Â
âHow do you stop it?â You asked Eddie after he switched the camera to the one in the elevator.Â
âThereâs something to press that stops them for emergencies,â He explained as he got up from his chair and went over to a panel on the wall. âAnd thereâs also an intercom here to talk to them so they donât freak out or start panicking.â
He then pressed the stop button for the elevator Todd and Kristen were on. âDid it work?âÂ
You and Steve both responded with a quick âYeahâ at the same time. You noticed the confused looks cross your bosses faces and you saw Todd reach out to press the emergency button, but Eddie was speaking through the intercom before he could.Â
âHey, sorry about that, guys. Itâs just an electrical issue and it should be fixed in about fifteen to thirty minutes.â He looked at you and Steve again. âAlright, letâs see if your matchmaking thing works.â
It was quiet at first. So quiet that you couldnât help but wonder if this was actually the worst idea ever. You and Steve were âplaying cupidâ for two people who only had a few things in common, and it was all for entirely selfish reasons.Â
âIâm just now realizing how insane this whole thing is,â You told Steve, looking away from the screen that showed Todd and Kristen still not talking to each other. Â
âYouâre just now realizing that? That was pretty much the first thing I told you when you suggested this,â Steve reminded you.Â
âI know, I know,â You started. âBut now seeing it actually happen is making me understand that.âÂ
Eddie turned around in his chair and looked up at you two. âDo you guys want me to start the elevator back?â
Both you and Steve had the same immediate answer of, âNo.âÂ
You kept going after a second. âThis will either be the best thing ever or the complete opposite, but I think we should just see it through, at this point, right?â
In this moment, it seemed like things were leaning more toward the âabsolute worstâ side of the spectrum, but it didnât make you entirely change your mind about doing it, and it didnât make Steve disagree with you either. âRight.â
âOkay,â Eddie shrugged as he turned back around. âFor what itâs worth, I donât think this is that fucked up of an idea.â
You nodded, even though he couldnât see you. âOkay, cool, so weâre not completely terrible and manipulative people for doing this.â
âWell, I didnât say that,â Eddie responded and Steve whacked his arm.Â
You didnât say anything and instead looked at the computer screen again.Â
âCome on. Talk,â You mumbled. âTalk to each other.â
âThey canât hear you,â Steve jokingly whispered to you.Â
Before you had the chance to make a sarcastic comment back to him, there was finally something coming from the computerâs speaker. Â
âHey, you did that interview with Matt Scott, right?â Todd asked Kristen.
She nodded. âYeah, I did.âÂ
âI just watched it a couple of days ago. It was really good,â He said, and at that, Kristen smiled.Â
From there, it felt like the equivalent to watching a movie; and you could inwardly recognize how weird that sounded. They introduced themselves to each other and then continued to talk about that horror movie director they both loved, and they eventually bonded over the few things that you and Steve had told them about one another too.Â
Thirty minutes passed quicker than expected and you and Steve ended up sitting in two folding chairs that were in the small room and sat next to Eddie as you watched your bosses have what seemed like a really good conversation. It didnât seem as if it was coming to any sort of an end just yet, but you and Steve still had Eddie start the elevator back up again. And before Kristen got off on her floor first, they exchanged phone numbersâ which shouldnât have at all been surprising, but it still kind of was.Â
You looked at Steve once the doors closed and it was just Todd left in the elevator. âWoah.â
He nodded, agreeing with your one word that said a lot more than just that. âWow.âÂ
Eddie laughed a little. âNice work playing cupid for these two.â
You felt relieved, but not entirely so. âWeâll see if it actually works.â

Incoming call from UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR
.ăťă.ăťăâăť.ăťâŤăťăăťă. .ăťă.ăťăâăť.ăťâŤăťăăťă
Steve rarely ever called you.Â
It just never made sense with how crazy your jobs were, so you two always settled for texting. Apparently, this moment was different, though.Â
However, before you could make any move to answer your phone, you were getting called into Kristenâs office, and your heart was abruptly falling into your stomach because suddenly the timing of Steve's phone call felt like it had something to do with whatever conversation you were about to have with Kristen.Â
âHey,â You said, trying to make your voice sound as normal, and not worried, as possible. âIs everything okay?â
She looked up from her phone and then smiled at you. âEverythingâs really good, actually. Iâm going to be leaving early today, so you can head out too.â
That wasnât at all what you were expecting her to say, but you attempted to hide your complete shock.Â
âOh, okay,â You ultimately responded. âAre you sure?â
You regretted asking the question the second you said it, but this entire moment felt like some sort of trick or test, so you felt the immediate need to question it. Â
âYeah, itâs Friday,â She said as if that explained everything, which it did not. âYou can have a half day for once.â
You were convinced that this had something to do with Todd, but you still wanted some sort of confirmation. âSpecial occasion?â
âRemember yesterday when I told you about getting stuck in the elevator for half an hour?â She asked, and when you nodded she continued. âWell, I exchanged numbers with the guy I was stuck with because we had a really nice conversation when we were in there, and five minutes ago, he called asking to go to lunch and then to see this movie that we talked about in the elevator. Itâs the last day itâs playing at that small theater on the other side of town.â
You nodded along to her words. âThat sounds great.â
âOh, and funnily enough, itâs the guy that you mentioned a few days ago who works upstairs and is from Jersey, and our food almost got swapped from the diner,â She laughed a littleâ happily, dreamilyâ like a woman with a crush. âIsnât that crazy?â
There was absolutely nothing about how Kristen said those words that shouldâve made you think she knew what you and Steve had done, but still, you couldnât help but think it.Â
Which made you force a nervous smile as you once again nodded. âYeah, so crazy. Small world. Or, well, in this case, I guess small building.â You laughed awkwardly at your non-joke and then immediately kept going. âAnyway, I hope you have a fun time with him today. See you Monday.â
Kristenâs eyes were back on her phone, smiling again as she waved at you in goodbye and you proceeded to quickly leave her office.Â
You called Steve back the moment you were at your desk again. He picked up on the second ring and the first thing he said was, âIt actually fucking worked. He asked her to go to lunch.â
âI know,â You whispered, even though all you really wanted to do in that moment was let out the happiest sound ever. âWhere are you right now?â
âToddâs letting me leave since heâs leaving, so Iâm about to head down to the lobby.â
âOkay, Iâll meet you there. Iâm gonna grab my stuff and immediately run away from my desk before Kristen can call me back into her office and tell me that this was all some sort of elaborate prank,â You said and then hung up, stuffing your phone in your pocket and grabbing your bag from underneath your desk.Â
You waved happily at Steve when you exited the elevator in the lobby and barely a second later he was pulling you into a hug. Even though that was something that had never happened before, you didnât hesitate to return the action, wrapping your arms around him too and smiling into his shoulder.Â
âYouâre a genius for this idea,â He told you, words hitting right at your ear.Â
âTechnically, you came up with it,â You reminded him when you two pulled out of the celebratory embrace.Â
âOkay, in that case, Iâll happily take the credit for all of this then,â Steve said and smiled at you.Â
You playfully poked his arm. âWhat I meant is that we both should get credit for this plan working. You kinda came up with the initial idea and I came up with all the nitty gritty stuff.â
He shook his head. âThatâs not entirely true, actually. Who came up with the elevator meet cute?â
You knew that he wanted you to say him, but you refused to give him the satisfaction so you simply shrugged instead. âA shitty Hallmark movie, probably.â
âHa ha, good one,â He said as he rolled his eyes at you.Â
âThank you, Iâll be here all week. Actually, thatâs not true because we finally just got a day off,â You smiled as you and Steve headed into the lobby. âThis is the first time Iâve had a Friday off in the past two years of working here, I honestly have no idea what to do now.â
The thought of spending the rest of the day, and then night, catching up on sleep sounded very tempting to you, and it only felt a little sad that youâd be completely sleeping away a Friday when you finally had the opportunity to do something even the tiniest bit fun.Â
âDo you want to come to a birthday party for my best friend/roommate tonight?â Steve asked. âWeâre having it at our place and I thought Iâd have to miss it because I was gonna be stuck here all night, but now I wonât be, and you should come.â
Initially, you smiled at his offer and you felt the urge to accept it on the spot. But then your brain couldnât help but consider what saying yes would mean. You and Steve had never hung out outside of this building, and the few food spots that were on the same street as this building, before. Although you two were friends, you couldnât lie and say that it didnât pretty much start and end at work; mainly because that was what consumed most of your time.Â
âWouldn't that be kinda weird?â You ultimately asked, deciding against verbalizing exactly what you were thinking about. âI donât think Iâd want a random girl from my best friendâs workplace to be at my birthday party.â
âYouâre not a random girl. I talk about you all the time, remember?â Steve said, reminding you of Eddieâs words from yesterday, and the playfulness in his tone made you smile.
Instead of asking more questionsâ like what it would mean to take your work friendship into normal friendship territory, and whether it would even easily happenâ you were simply agreeing and saying, âOkay.â
.ăťă.ăťăâăť.ăťâŤăťăăťă. .ăťă.ăťăâăť.ăťâŤăťăăťă
YOU: what should i bring tonight?
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: just yourselfÂ
YOU: that feels wrong. itâs literally a birthday partyÂ
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: for someone you donât knowÂ
YOU: that doesnât matter
YOU: so what do you need? cups? some sort of side dish? more cake?
UPSTAIRS WORK NEIGHBOR: donât bring anything
.ăťă.ăťăâăť.ăťâŤăťăăťă. .ăťă.ăťăâăť.ăťâŤăťăăťă
âI brought alcohol,â You said when Steve opened his door and then you held up the two bottles of tequila you bought on your drive over to his apartment.Â
He shook his head at you but still smiled as he pushed the door open further to let you in. Seeing him out of his typical professional work clothes and in a simple white t-shirt and jeans was a nice surprise that honestly shouldnât have been all that surprising. âYou didnât have to do that.â
âItâs physically impossible for me to show up to places empty-handed,â You looked around the decently sized space as Steve closed the door behind you. There werenât that many people in the apartment yet, you only noticed two girls leaning back against the small kitchen island and talking. You turned to look at Steve. âShit, am I too early?â
Your hands were full so you couldnât pull your phone out of your denim jacket pocket to check the time, but you had a feeling what it would say. After working for Kristen for the past two years, it was pretty much ingrained in you to never be late anywhere, and most times you inadvertently ended up being early.Â
âA little bit, yeah. But, thatâs fine,â Steve told you with a shrug. âIâm glad youâre here early. Itâll probably make it easier for you to meet everyone.â
He then introduced you to the girls talking in the kitchen; his roommate and best friend Robin and her girlfriend Vickie.Â
âHi, youâre my new favorite person,â Robin told you when she noticed the alcohol in your hands. Â
âThank you,â You laughed a little as you set it down on the counter, joining the other bottles that littered it. âHappy Birthday.âÂ
âThanks,â She smiled at you. âHow are your karaoke skills?â
The randomness of the question slightly surprised you. âAbsolutely terrible, but when Iâm drunk I love doing it.â
âPerfect,â She said. âYou and Steve have to do a duet when we go to this karaoke bar later. The last time we went, he got so drunk he sang Footloose three times in a row.â
âI will admit, each time was very great,â Vickie chimed in.Â
âYeah,â Robin agreed. âHe surprisingly has a really good voice.â
You smiled and tried your hardest not to laugh at the thought of the Steve youâd grown to know over the past eight months getting drunk and singing karaoke. âPlease tell me thereâs video proof of that.â
âOh, of course,â She nodded and went to pull her phone out of the pocket of the high-waisted pants she was wearing.Â
âOkay, and before things get even more embarrassing for me right now,â Steve reached out to grab your hand and pull you out of the conversation. âLet me give you a quick tour of the apartment.â
You were laughing as you let him drag you away from his friends. âYouâre suddenly such an attentive host.â
He pointed out the bathroom and Robinâs room down the hall and then led you to his room.Â
âItâs clean,â You said, pointing out the obvious. His bed was made and there werenât any clothes or other random things littering the floor.
Steve let out an amused laugh at your words. âIâm scared to know what you expected it to look like.â
âI donât know, honestly,â You shrugged as you leaned back against his dark wood desk that was tucked in a corner. âYou definitely wouldnât want to see my room right now. Itâs a complete mess from me trying to decide what to wear tonight.â
You had ended up settling for the first things you had pulled from your closetâ a long sleeve black shirt and a brown plaid skirt that was shorter than you had remembered but still really niceâ so the clothes that had ended up making your bed a mess and floor a tripping hazard felt like a sad waste of time. And now knowing how early you had shown up to the party, you probably couldâve prioritized cleaning up before you left your home in a rush. Â
âYou look nice,â Steve told you, and you didnât expect to feel so affected by his wordsâ which you knew were just a simple compliment by a friendâ but you did. âDo you want me to take your jacket?â
âYeah, sure,â You pulled off the dark denim jacket you were wearing and handed it over to him, and he went to place it on the hook behind his open door.Â
âSo, what did you do after we were set free?â He asked as he sat at the foot of his bed. You got the sudden urge to join him, but you didnât, deciding to stay right where you were at his desk.Â
âI had the best four-hour nap of my life and then I played really dumb games on my phone while still in bed,â You answered. It had been the most perfectly boring evening. âWhat have you been up to with your past free hours?â
âI also took a nap, and then I watched Clueless.â
A smile immediately started to tug at your lips. âNo, you didnât.â
âI did,â He nodded. âIt felt like good timing.â
âI think good timing wouldâve been if you watched it before we did the plan, but better late than never,â You said and then asked the important question. âDid you like it?â
He gave you another nod. âYeah. A lot more than I expected to, actually.â
âNice, I knew there was a part of you that had, at least, a kind of good taste in movies.â
âIâm still very offended that you think itâs mainly bad.â
âYou told me that one of your favorites is the first Fast and Furious movie, and that was all I needed to know,â You said and then gave him a smile. âItâs honestly funny because an article about the entire series was actually the first thing I read on Kristenâs website.â
âAnd did it speak highly of the franchise?â
You nodded, holding back a laugh. âFor the most part, yes. Surprisingly. Iâll find the link later and send it to you.â
âThank you,â He said and then a beat of silence lingered before he asked, âHey, is that why you work for Kristen? Because you eventually wanna write for the website?â
âYeah, kinda, yeah,â You started with a quick nod. âIt didnât initially start that way. I just loved the website and wanted to be a part of it in any way I could. But, the thought of actually writing has only become more and more interesting to me, and yeah I think I wanna do that sooner than later.â
âYou should let me read something youâve written.â
Your head shake was immediate. âNo way.â
âWhy not?â
âOne, because thatâs embarrassing. And two, because I havenât even finished anything yet because of how busy I always am.â
âWell, weâre gonna start having a lot of free time on our hands, so itâs the perfect time for you to actually finish something,â Steve told you. âAnd also the perfect time to let me read it once itâs done.â
âIâll think about it,â You ultimately conceded and then proceeded to shift the subject away from yourself. âWhat about you, though? Why do you work for Todd?â
âHonestly, I donât really know. My dad helped me get the job, actually, which is a long story in itself. I initially hated it a lot more than I do now, but I knew that my dad would give me shit if I quit. And he probably still would,â Steve explained. Just from the brief way he talked about his dad, you could sense how tense that relationship was, and you really wanted to know more about it, but you didnât push further in that moment. âI donât even like this finance stuff, but I still donât really know what I really want to do, so Iâm kinda okay with dealing with Todd and all of his bullshit.â
You nodded understandingly. âThat makes sense. You never once gave me âfinance broâ vibes.â
Steve tilted his head at you amusingly. âWhat does that mean?â
âYouâre not an asshole mixed with a huge hint of douchebag.â
He let out a laugh which made you smile. âThank you. That really means a lot.â
âYouâre very welcome,â You told him, still smiling and matching his playful tone. âOkay, okay, enough work talk. We need to use our freedom to its maximum potential.â An idea was hitting you as you stood up from his desk. âLetâs get drunk.â
Another brief amused laugh fell from Steveâs lips, but he still nodded at your words. âSolid idea.â
It had been a long time since you drank so your tolerance was terrible. You felt effectively drunk after just two shotsâ one with Steve to celebrate being free from work and then a birthday shot with Robin that she made everyone do once more people showed upâ and you forced Steve to keep up with you, which he happily did. He was five shots in to your three and both of you were on the same level; a level that also exceeded everyone else at the party.Â
You learned that the initial plan was to âpregameâ here at the apartment for an hour or two and then head to the karaoke bar that Robin had mentioned earlier and spend the rest of the night there. However, you and Steve took pregaming to an entirely different level.Â
You two ended up staying in your own little bubble for most of the nightâ holed up on a spot on the couch as you talked only about non-work related things for the first time probably ever. You wondered if this bubble was because Steve wanted to make you feel comfortable in this space where you didnât really know anyone aside from him, and Eddie kinda, but you didnât question it.Â
A friendship that had initially felt as if it had started and ended at work easily shifted into something else as you two learned random things about each other and exchanged silly stories that could be deemed as unimportant nonsense, but it didnât feel that way coming from a person that you really cared about. And it was when you were laughing and telling Steve about the time you crashed into your childhood neighbor's mailbox just one day after you got your license when you were sixteenâ a story that you couldnât remember the last time you told anyone because of how embarrassing it wasâ you realized that there was something entirely different about Steve.Â
What you and he had wasnât just a work friendship, and even now in this space outside of work, it also didnât feel like a normal friendship either. Maybe it was never supposed to be limited to something as simple as that.Â
There was an unfamiliar feeling that settled in your stomach as you watched him happily stand next to his best friend and hold the cake that she blew the candles out of moments after everyone loudly sang âHappy Birthdayâ in the kitchen. You quickly pushed the sudden feeling away because it felt easier to not think about it for the time being.
You and Steve ended up back on the couch again after the cake was cut and you two shared a piece, a corner slice that you both thought was the most perfect thing you had ever seen.Â
At some point, you couldnât tell exactly how much time had passed, Robin came over to the two of you. You noticed the amused smile take over her features as she looked at the close proximity between you and Steve; there wasn't an inch of space between you two because you both wanted the plate to balance equally on your laps. âI think you guys have had more than enough to drink tonight, so you should just stay here.âÂ
âYou sure?â Steve asked, looking up at her.Â
She nodded. âYes, Iâm positive. If you puke in the karaoke bar and we get banned Iâll never forgive you, dingus.â
âThatâs fair.â
You looked up at Robin and smiled. In a way, it felt wrong that your conversation with her had been so limited earlier, she seemed really nice. âHappy birthday again.â
She smiled back at you. âThanks again.â
The apartment became empty minutes later and the quietness reminded you of when you had first showed up. There was still music coming from the speaker set up in the living room, but Steve got up from the couch to lower it and then it became a soft hum in the background.
âIâm sorry I suggested the getting drunk idea,â You told Steve as you grabbed the now empty plate in your hand and stood up to toss it in the trash in the kitchen; with your drunkenness, it was a task that felt as if it took forever. âI messed up your night with your friends.â
You saw Steve shake his head when you turned to look at him again. He joined you where you were in the kitchen and grabbed a couple cups off the counter to throw them in the trash can. âIâm happy here with you.â
âIs that because you really didnât wanna do our duet and because I can help you clean up the mess in here right now?â
âSure.â
You wanted to ask him what he meant by that, because it felt as if there was much more to that one-worded response, and even in your current inebriated state you could see that. Instead, though, you were asking, âWhy are we friends?â
His eyebrows furrowed in confusion at the randomness of your question. âBecause we met that night in the lobby eight months ago?â
You shook your head. âNo, I mean, why are we just friends?â
You werenât sure why you were suddenly asking thisâ or even where your abrupt courage was coming from to ask itâ but in this moment, with you two standing in his barely lit kitchen, it somehow felt right.
Your question was met with silence, though, and that lack of a response from Steve made you suddenly feel as if you actually shouldnât have asked that question; because maybe it said way too much.Â
âOh, actually, never mind,â You abruptly said and pulled your eyes away from his, and went to grab the half-full red solo cup off the kitchen counter to toss it in the garbage.Â
However, in what shouldâve been a short and simple journey to the trash can, you roughly bumped into the side of the counter and spilled the entirety of what was leftover in the cup on yourself.Â
âShit.â
âShit,â Steve immediately echoed, looking at the mess on the lower part of your shirt and the front of your skirt. âUm, letâs grab you something to change into.â
Wordlessly, you nodded and followed him to his bedroom. You werenât entirely sure what you were more embarrassed aboutâ you spilling a drink on yourself and now smelling so disgustingly like alcohol or the stupid question you asked him that led to this happening.
âYou can grab whatever you want from in there,â Steve told you and pointed toward what you assumed was his closet. âIâm gonna get a towel for you.â Â
âThanks, Iâm sorry about all of this. I swear Iâm not usually this annoying of a drunk person,â You joked because it felt like the only right thing to do in that moment.Â
âYouâre not annoying,â You heard Steve say from somewhere behind you.Â
You wanted to follow up with another sort of playful and witty response, but you couldnât think of what to say. So instead, you silently pulled a long-sleeved white button-up off a hanger and turned back to Steve, who handed over a towel for you.Â
You headed to the bathroom that wasnât too far down the hall and as you closed the door behind you and were left alone, you refused to think about what happened in the past few minutes. You focused solely on the mundane task of pulling your shirt off and drying your damp skin with the towel and then moving to take off your skirt.Â
You werenât sure where you thought Steve was, but you didnât think he was standing right outside the bathroom door, so abruptly hearing his soft voice on the other side of the door made you jump as you slipped on the white shirt.Â
âI think weâre just friends becauseâŚâ He trailed off. âI donât know, honestly.â
You wished that your question couldâve simply been forgotten about, and you wanted to tell him just that; to forget it. However, there was a small part of you that wanted to push the conversation forward and actually talk about it, and somehow that small part managed to take precedence over logical thinking. Â
âMaybe we shouldnât be friends,â You responded, not outwardly saying what you really meant because you knew that you wouldnât be able to take it back once the words were out in the open and that was a slightly scary thought, even your drunk brain knew that. Â
âI think youâre right,â Steve said, and somehow you could practically hear him nodding. âSo, what should we be instead?â
It was obvious what he wanted you to say, and even though the words were on the tip of your tongue, you still couldnât seem to actually say them. You finished buttoning the shirt and then let out a quiet sigh.
âI donât knowâŚâ You ultimately answered. Selfishly, you wanted him to be the one to say it out loud first. âWhat do you think we should be instead?â
Hearing his soft laugh made you immediately smile. Somehow, this back-and-forth conversation between two half-drunk people who were beating around the bush about their feelings for one another was becoming more and more teasing, and you honestly didnât mind it because it just felt so typical of you and Steve.Â
âI donât know, either,â He answered, and for a second, you thought that the conversation was going to come to its end thereâ without either of you mustering up the courage to actually say the wordsâ but then he continued. âBut Iâll admit that whenever I see you, it makes me really, really happy.â
You could only smile wider at his words. âOkay, and Iâll admit that sometimes I like when weâre both forced to stay late at work because it means that I get to spend more time with you.â
You didnât realize just how true those words were until you were saying them. You had long accepted that Steve being in your life made your job a thousand times more bearable, but you were now finally seeing that it was so much more than that. You were suddenly so certain of the fact that you wouldâve quit your job long ago if going to work and dealing with Kristen didnât mean eventually seeing Steve at some point throughout the day, even if it was just for five quick minutes.Â
âHonestly, those late nights are kind of my favorite,â Steve responded to your previous confession and you felt yourself nodding in agreement even though he couldnât see you.
âI like you,â You told him. Your voice was soft but you knew that he could hear you. âAnd I donât mean that in a work friend or regular friend kind of way. And Iâm just now fully realizing it tonight, but I think deep down Iâve felt this way for a long time.â
âI like you too,â He responded, voice matching your softness and you could hear the smile in his tone. âAnd I donât mean it in a work friend or regular friend way either.âÂ
Things got quiet for a second and then you were opening the bathroom door and meeting Steveâs eyes. Neither of you said anything at first; mainly because it felt as if the contented smiles on both of your faces managed to say it all.Â
âI forgot to grab pants,â Were the first words you said after a minute of comfortable silence. Steveâs shirt on you was long enough and its length matched where your skirt had ended, so nothing new was really revealed.Â
Steve laughed a little at your random statement because it made it seem as if a huge thing hadnât just been admitted by both of you only moments ago.Â
âWe should probably get you those,â He looked down at your new outfit, or lack thereof, for a brief second and then met your eyes again.Â
You gave him a quick nod. âYeah, I guess that would make sense.â
Neither of you made any move to head toward his bedroom again, though. Instead, another handful of moments passed and then you were silently reaching out and letting your hand find his. You pulled him into the bathroom with you and softly shut the door behind him.
With two people now in it, you were realizing just how small the bathroom was, but this closeness felt perfect to you. And you could tell that the feeling was mutual because Steveâs hands were finding your hips, and then you were being shifted around so that you were pressed back against the sink. Your arms reached up to circle his neck and your hands settled in the hair at the nape of his neck; it all felt so instinctiveâ as if this was something that had happened a bunch of times before. As if this entire moment was something that had happened a million times before.
Your eyes drifted down to Steveâs lips for a quick second because they were only inches away from yours and you wondered who would be the one to close the final bit of distance between you two, or if youâd simply just meet in the middle and the rest would be history.Â
Before anything could happen, though, the annoying logical part of you was taking over and you got the urge to ask something. âWeâre not just doing this and saying all of this because weâre kinda drunk, right?â
Your words were whispered and your eyes were closed because you knew that your question had the opportunity to be a mood killer and ruin this moment entirely, and for those exact reasons, you immediately wanted to take it back. But, Steve was answering before you could.Â
âNo,â He whispered back. It was such a short and simple answer, but it somehow managed to say enough.Â
Your eyes opened and you could tell that he was about to say more, but you leaned in to kiss him before anything could be said. It was soft at first, soft and tentative, like you both were testing the waters and trying to correctly navigate this uncharted territory.Â
But then it was as if the same switch was flipping for you two at the exact same time because, after the briefest second, you both were simultaneously pushing any and all thinking to the side and simply leaning into what felt right. Steve deepened the kiss and you reciprocated immediately, pushing yourself as close as you could to him and closing any and all space between you two.Â
Your hands went from softly tugging at the hair at the nape of his neck, to fisting themselves in his white t-shirt. And then, with Steveâs help too, you pushed yourself up so that you were sitting on the sink counter. It wasnât the most comfortable position, but you didnât entirely mind it right then. Steve settled between your now parted legs and one hand was still on your hip, while the other was playing with the hem of your, his, shirt that was now riding further and further up your thighs due to your new position. Â
âI canât believe out of everything, you grabbed this shirt,â Steve said in between kisses.Â
You let out a contented sound when his lips moved to your neck. âWhy?âÂ
âBecause you look very, very hot right now,â He didnât hesitate to answer. âAnd your outfit earlier was really great too, and honestly you always look hot so maybe this shouldnât even be surprising to me right now.âÂ
You let out a soft laugh at his rambling. âIâm hot even when weâre at work and Iâm wearing a boring cardigan and jeans?â
Steve nodded and pressed a quick kiss against your lips. âEspecially then.âÂ
It was hard not to feel so affected by the two simple words; your heart quite literally stuttered at how certain he sounded, and you leaned in to kiss him again instead of saying anything in response. Your fingers carded themselves in his hair, eliciting a soft groan from him that made you smile into the kiss. And then both of his hands moved to your hips, pulling you to the edge of the counter so that you were flush against him.Â
In a way, it felt a little silly that you two were making out in his bathroom when there was a perfectly good bed right down the hall. But, it was a kind of silliness that made sense for you and Steve and everything you two built over the last eight months of knowing each other.Â
There was the friendship side of things that happened so effortlessly following that night you two met in the lobby, and now there was this new side that, weirdly enough, so quickly felt the same way. Kissing him for the first time right here, right now made you wish that you two had been doing this a lot sooner because of how irrevocably happy it made you.Â
âWeâre stupid for taking so long to do this,â You eventually told him when you two were in his bed. You were moments away from falling asleep, but you felt the need to finally say those words.Â
The two of you were under his grey covers and you had traded the button up for one of Steveâs t-shirts and a pair of his basketball shorts that were really comfortable. His warmth enveloped you completely beneath the blanket as he pulled you closer, wrapping an arm around your waist and finding your hand to intertwine it with his.Â
âLike we were stupid for not getting Todd and Kristen together sooner?â
You nodded, a small smile gracing your lips that he couldnât see because you were facing away from him. âYes, exactly like that.â
Steve pressed a kiss against the side of your head and then his lips tickled at your ear. âI agree.â
You hummed in response and finally fell asleep moments later because you were in way too comfortable of a position not to. It was your first time in Steveâs bed, but how at ease youâd felt since you pulled the blanket over you minutes ago didnât feel new or foreign. It simply felt right.Â
And before your eyes slipped shut and you drifted off, you came to the final realization of the night that everything felt right with Steve, it always did, and that was the most comforting thought to fall asleep to.

Y/N barely managed to keep her balance as she fumbled with the lock, heels dangling from one hand, bag slipping from the other. She was still in last nightâs outfitânothing too scandalous, but enough to scream I was trying to get laid and failed miserably. Her makeup wasnât ruined per se, but her eyeliner had smudged just enough to give away that she hadnât just stepped out looking fresh.
The moment she stumbled into the apartment, Yunhoâs laughter rang through the living room. He was perched on the couch, long legs stretched out, nursing a mug of coffee like some judgmental prince.
âWell, good morning,â he drawled, a smirk playing at his lips. âWhat a sight I have right now.â
Y/N groaned, flipping him off without breaking stride as she tossed her shoes near the door.
âRough night?â Yunho asked, his tone drenched in amusement.
âYeah, tell me about it,â she grumbled, finally collapsing onto the couch next to him. âWhat about you? What did you do?â
Yunho took a slow sip of his coffee before answering. âMe? Oh, nothing crazy. Made dinner, played some games till like 2 AM, then went to bed.â He tilted his head toward her, eyes twinkling. âWhat about you? Who was the lucky one who took you home?â
Y/N groaned dramatically, draping an arm over her face. âThatâs the thing. Youâd think that on Valentineâs Day, the club would be filled with hot singles, right? But no. Just couples everywhereâkissing, slow dancing, rubbing their happiness in my face. Not a single man in sight.â
Yunho hummed, setting his mug down on the coffee table. âHuh. Well, I was alone yesterday, you know.â
She peeked at him from under her arm, brows furrowing. âWhat are you saying, Yunho?â
He turned to her then, closer than before, his gaze no longer teasing but intent. His voice dropped, slow and deliberate.
âIf you wanted action,â he murmured, âyou didnât have to go to some stupid club.â
Y/Nâs breath hitched as Yunho leaned in, close enough for her to catch the faint scent of coffee and whatever stupidly nice cologne he always wore. His arms rested on the couch, caging her in.
Her lips parted slightly, a mix of confusion and anticipation making her pulse spike. âYouâwhat?â
Yunho scoffed, tilting his head at her like she was the dumbest person heâd ever met. âYouâre actually so blind, Y/N,â he muttered, voice thick with amusement but something else tooâsomething darker, something hungry. âYou had the easiest opportunity to get laid right in front of you this whole time.â
His fingers trailed up her thigh, just barely skimming the fabric of her dress, and Y/N felt her brain short-circuit.
Looping her fingers behind his waistband, she tugged him even closer, their lips a hairâs breadth apart. âIf thatâs true, then maybe you should do something about it,â she murmured.
Yunho didnât need to be told twice.
His mouth crashed against hers, hands sliding up to cup her face, thumbs digging in just enough to make her gasp. That was all the opening he needed, tongue slipping past her lips as he pressed his body flush against hers.
Heat coiled low in her stomach as Yunhoâs hands abandoned her face in favor of something much more sinfulâone slipping under her dress, the other palming her breast as he deepened the kiss, tilting her head just the way he wanted.
Y/N moaned into his mouth, fingers fumbling at his shirt, nails dragging over his abs before slipping beneath the waistband of his sweats.
âFuck,â Yunho growled against her lips, his breath coming out shaky. âYouâre really desperate, huh?â
Y/N had half a mind to be embarrassed, but then Yunho was pushing her dress up around her waist and dragging her panties down her thighs, and any rational thought she had completely dissolved.
He let out a low groan, fingers sliding through her slick folds, teasing her entrance before slipping one inside. Y/Nâs breath stuttered, her back arching at the delicious stretch.
âShh, keep quiet for now,â he murmured, smirking when she let out a sharp gasp. âWeâll see how long you last before youâre screaming my name.â
Y/N was about to snap back at him, but then he added another finger, curling them just right, and her head hit the back of the couch, a strangled moan ripping from her throat.
Yunho chuckled, working his fingers into her at a pace that was just slow enough to be torturous.
âYouâre soaking wet,â he mused, voice dripping with satisfaction. âAll that time looking for a one-night stand, and you couldâve just asked me.â
Y/N barely managed to glare at him, her fingers digging into his arms as she rocked against his hand, chasing the friction. âStop talking and do something.â
Yunho raised a brow, then grinned. âOh, youâre gonna regret saying that.â
In one swift motion, he withdrew his fingers and flipped her over, pressing her chest against the couch as he yanked her hips up. Y/N gasped, arching into him as he shoved his sweats and boxers down just enough to free himself.
She turned her head slightly, eyes widening as she caught sight of his cockâthick, flushed, and already dripping at the tip.
âOh, fuck me,â she breathed.
âThatâs the plan,â Yunho smirked, dragging the head of his cock through her slick folds before teasing her entrance.
And then he pushed in.
A broken moan ripped from Y/Nâs throat as he sank into her, inch by inch, stretching her out in a way that had her thighs trembling.
Yunho let out a shuddering breath, his grip on her hips tightening. âFuck, youâre tight,â he hissed. âYou feel even better than I thought you would.â
Y/N barely had time to process that statement before he snapped his hips forward, burying himself to the hilt.
She choked on a gasp, back arching, hands scrambling for purchase against the couch.
âOh my Godââ
âYeah?â Yunho groaned, pulling almost all the way out before slamming back in. âGo on, baby. Let me hear whoâs making you feel this good.â
Y/N squeezed her eyes shut, nails digging into the cushions. âFuck, Yunho! You!â
He growled at that, fingers tangling in her hair as he yanked her head back slightly. âThatâs right,â he murmured against her ear before biting down on her shoulder, setting a pace that had her body rocking against the couch.
Y/N felt like she was burning, pleasure coiling in her stomach as his thrusts grew rougher, more desperate.
âI can feel you squeezing me,â Yunho groaned, his hand sliding around to rub tight circles against her clit. âYou gonna cum for me, baby?â
Y/N nodded frantically, barely able to form words. âY-Yeah, fuck, Yunhoââ
Her body tensed, pleasure exploding through her as she came with a cry, trembling beneath him. Yunho followed soon after, spilling deep inside her with a groan, his body slumping against hers.
For a moment, all she could hear was their ragged breathing.
âSo... you wanna tell me that all this time I couldâve been getting the best dick ever, and instead Iâve been suffering in silence?â
Yunho chuckled against her skin. âWell, I guess we have time to make up for that.â

That's My Boy
Eddie Munson x fem!reader
You, Eddie, and your daughter come over to the trailer to celebrate Wayne's birthday and give him the best gift he could ever ask for.
The trailer is quiet except for the jazz music thatâs playing softly for some background noise and the simmering of the pot that Wayne is stirring. His guests are due any minute ands heâs hurrying to make sure everything is done before they show up. He pours the finished soup into the serving bowl that was part of the set that Eddie got him when he moves out then plates the grilled cheeses as nicely as he can, wanting them to look the best they can.Â
He sets everything on the table as he hears a car door slam closed, a bright grin spreading across his face as he sees a glimpse of the top of the familiar head through the storm door. Heâs quick to wipe his hands on his apron just as the door flies open, a blur racing towards him in a fit of giggles.Â
âGramps!â Lucy exclaims as he throws herself against his legs. Wayneâs quick to pick her up and give her a tight squeeze, feeling his heart swell as she gives him the energy back. Heâs so engrossed in the moment that he only remembers that sheâs not alone when he hears the front door close.Â
His eyes open and he sees his nephew and wife entering the house carrying git bags that Wayne made them swore that they wouldnât. Theyâre wearing matching smiles as their eyes lock on the man and they make a beeline for him, pulling him into a group hug and Wayneâs never felt more loved than he does in the moment.Â
âHappy birthday, old man,â you give his shoulder a squeeze and a kiss on the cheek. âNext time, youâre not making the meal. Itâs not fair of us to expect you to cook on your special day.â You set down the gift bag youâre holding on the counter thatâs beside you.Â
âI hardly call that cooking,â Wayne chuckles. âIt was just heating up a couple cans of soup and making a few grilled cheeses.â
âStill,â you reply as you shake your head. âNext time, weâre hosting.âÂ
âYeah,â Eddie speaks up, wrapping his arm around his uncleâs shoulder. âWe just upgraded the grill thatâs out on the patio and I have to say, I make a mean burger but I did learn from the best,â he winks then hurries over to help you pull out your chair as soon as he sees that youâre trying to do it yourself. He then helps you sit as you smooth your shirt over your very obvious bump.Â
Wayne doesnât think his heart could get any bigger and he has to fight tears from trailing down his cheeks as he watches the two of you, your wedding rings catching the light thatâs hanging above the table. He then lets his eyes move over to his great niece whoâs holding out an envelope to him that has his name scrawled in bright red crayon.Â
âCan I open it after lunch?â He asks, but Lucy shakes her head vigorously.Â
âNo, you have to open it now,â she demands and because sheâs got the man wrapped around her tiny finger, he scoops her in his arms and the sit at the table as he opens the envelope, letting out a dramatic gasp as he looks at the little picture sheâs drawn for him.Â
Itâs the four of them and even though they look like little yellow blobs, itâs still very easy to make out whoâs who. This is immediately going on the fridge thatâs now cluttered with drawings just like it and holiday cards from your little family even before she was born.
âI love it, Luce,â he says as he presses a kiss to her forehead. âWeâll put it on the fridge after lunch, okay?â He asks and she nods with that smile thatâs the perfect mix of yours and Eddieâs. He then sets her on her feet and lets her head over to the chair sheâs always claimed as hers where Eddie is already standing, holding his arms out for her.Â
âReady for liftoff?â He asks and she nods again.Â
âReady, daddy,â she replies and he lifts her into the air, making all sorts of noises that are supposed to sound like a space ship as he lifts her into the air and sets her in her chair. Sheâs giggling so loudly and the sound is so infectious that the rest of you are laughing too.Â
Eddie then moves to his chair thatâs across from hers, in between yours and Wayneâs. He scoots closer to you, his chair almost touching yours as he serves you some soup and a grilled cheese. Heâs like this all the time, but especially when youâre pregnant. And itâs not because he thinks youâre incapable, itâs just that he loves to take care of you and you let him, loving being pampered.Â
Once you have your meal, he serves you some water then does the same for Lucy, making sure that she has her favorite plate and cup that Wayne makes sure is always clean just in case he needs to watch her for whatever reason. He always wants to make sure that his girl has what she needs.Â
âSo, Luce,â Wayne speaks up. âYouâre going to be a big sister soon. You gonna take good care of Theo?âÂ
âMhm,â she nods as she takes a sip of juice from her sippy cup then wipes her mouth with the back of her hand. âMommy said I can hold him in the hospital.âÂ
ââAnd are you excited about that?â
âShe wonât stop talking about it,â you laugh. âSheâs already very protective of the little guy and heâs not even born yet. Itâs that right, bug?â You turn to your daughter.Â
âThatâs right, mommy. If anyone hurts him, Iâm gonna kick their ass.â Wayneâs trying not to laugh, but he canât help it, a cackle passing through his lips and as you glare at him for encouraging the coarse language, heâs quick to cover his mouth with his hand.Â
âI wonder where she learned that from.â You turn to glare at your husband and heâs quick to shrug, trying his best to act like he didnât teach her. âMustâve been the TV.â
âMhm,â you nod, not convinced then turn back to Lucy. âBug, we donât say that word, do we?â
âNo, mommy,â she shakes her head. âIâm sorry.âÂ
âItâs not your fault, baby. Daddy just has a potty mouth, doesnât he?âÂ
âDaddy didnât say it, it was uncle Gareth.â Now it all makes sense. Even after five years, the band is still having trouble censoring themselves around your daughter.Â
âI see. Well, I guess maybe soundcheck is off limits until the boys learn, hm?â And you hate doing that because she loves hearing her dad play when thereâs no crowd, but you have to put your foot down.Â
âYouâre really going to say no to that face?â Eddie points across the table to the face thatâs a perfect mix of both of yours. Sheâs batting her eyelashes and you donât even have to ask where she learned that trick from.Â
You turn to Eddie whoâs doing the exact same thing and this time, itâs not going to get you. The kiss heâs pressing to your hand is not going to work and he knows that so he drops it.Â
âFine,â he grumbles. âBut sheâs coming to the show in New York next week, right? She canât miss her daddy playing MSG.âÂ
Wayneâs tearing up at the thought of his nephew selling out Madison Square Garden and now heâs fully crying, now being able to keep in his proud tears. He always knew Eddie could do it, but actually witnessing it, well, heâs never been prouder of his nephew.Â
âOf course sheâs gonna be there, baby. Wayne too. I bought his plane ticket last night.âÂ
âI think this is the best birthday Iâve ever had,â Wayne says as he wipes his tears away with a little sniffle and you stand up from the table, rounding it to give the man a much needed hug.Â
Heâs been family to you for so many years now that you donât even remember a time where he wasnât in your life. Heâs always given you everything you needed when he had nothing, whether it was a place to crash for the night or even just a TV dinner when you needed something to eat. Heâs always provided for you and now itâs time to give back.Â
Wayne has been and will always be someone you will cherish, never taking him for granted and he knows that. Heâs always been like a father figure to you and Eddie now that you have the money, you have him set for the rest of his life. Heâs got everything he needs and itâs all in this very room, having lunch with him.Â
âAww Wayne, youâre gonna make me cry,â you tell him as you pull him in for a hug then reach for the gift you got for him. He reluctantly takes the bag and pulls out the tissue paper, crying even harder when he sees what it is.Â
Itâs a framed photo of a ticket to the very show you all were just talking about. Heâs always bragging about his nephew to anyone who will listen and now heâs physical proof of his biggest accomplishment, showing Eddie that he could be whatever he wanted to be despite what all of the losers in Hawkins said. And he did it, the boy actually did it. And Wayne couldnât be more proud.Â
âCome here, boy.â Wayneâs crying ever more now as he waves Eddie over, pulling him into a tight hug, tears shed by everyone but Lucy whoâs still chewing on her grilled cheese. âYouâre the best birthday gift,â he says. âYou all are and I am grateful everyday for our little family.âÂ
âOh, Wayne, youâre always such a sap,â you laugh as you wipe away your own tears.Â
âAnd I have every right to because of how proud I am.âÂ
âAnd we wouldnât have it any other way,â Eddie responds with a smile.Â
âThatâs my boy,â Wayne claps Eddie on the back and the three of you clear the table of the lunch remnants.Â
Once the cake was eaten and the dishes all washed and dried, you, Eddie and Lucy, who was asleep in his arms, headed out the door, lingering there as you gave hugs and more well wishes to Wayne.Â
As the door was closed, he was left alone in the quiet again, already missing the three of you as he takes his gift and brings it into his room, setting it on his bedside table so he can fall asleep to it every night and wake up to it every morning, a reminder that he finally did something right.

hear me out: lucky egg argenti đš
LUCKY EGG
Yandere!Argenti x Reader
For three days, the egg sat in your careâits crimson shell adorned with golden rose patterns, pulsing faintly with light. Then, on the third day, cracks splintered across its surface. A soft, triumphant hum filled the air, like the echo of a distant fanfare. With a final break, the shell shattered, light pouring from within. And from it, he emerged.
His long, red hair cascaded down his back, two strands framing his face as his vibrant green eyes locked onto yours. His armor gleamed under the light.
âI am Argenti, sworn to your service-â
Panic
Still damp from your bath, you did the only rational thingâshoved him out the door and slammed it shut.
You stood there, breathless, staring at the golden egg shards left behind. Did that really just happen? Of all the right moment, it hatched just now?
Shaking your head, you hurriedly got dressed. You needed answersânow.
Steeling yourself, you stepped outside.
There he was.
Kneeling right in front of your door.
âAh, you have returned!â he said warmly, as if you hadnât just kicked him out.
âI⌠What are you doing?â you finally managed.
Argenti placed a gauntleted hand over his heart, his expression sincere.
âAwaiting your orders, of course, my guiding star.â
You blinked. "Excuse me?"
He lifted his head slightly, his gaze nothing short of reverence. "I have waited for you. I have longed for you. And now that I am here, I shall devote myself to you for eternity."
You stared at him, feeling a strange mix of amusement and concern. You had heard rumors about these so-called "Lucky Eggs" but you never expected something like receiving a man from such egg.
"Uh... okay" you said, rubbing the back of your neck. "Why donât we... start with breakfast?"
Argenti's expression brightened instantly, as if you had just granted him the greatest gift in the world. "To be nourished by your hands?" he mused, following you eagerly. "Truly, I am the most blessed of men."
At least he's polite.
In the kitchen, Argenti hovered behind you, watching your every move with rapt attention. You grabbed some eggs, bread, and a few simple ingredients, planning to make something easy.
"You are skilled in the art of cooking as well" he praised, his tone filled with admiration. "Of course you would be. There is nothing you do that is not touched by divinity."
You nearly dropped the pan. "Itâs just breakfast."
"And yet, I am certain it will be the most exquisite meal I have ever tasted." His gaze softened as he watched you crack an egg into the pan. "You move with such grace⌠every action you take is mesmerizing."
Was he serious? It was as if he found even the way you scrambled eggs to be a masterpiece.
Once the food was ready, you set the plate in front of him, watching with mild curiosity as he took his first bite. The moment the flavors touched his tongue, his eyes widened in pure bliss.
"Thisâ!" He swallowed, pressing a hand to his chest as if overwhelmed. "This is magnificent! A humble dish, yet crafted with such careâit surpasses the finest delicacies I could have imagined!" His gaze found yours once more, filled with endless adoration. "Everything you create is perfect."
So heâs the type to get emotional over food. At least he wasnât complaining.
"Youâre being dramatic" you muttered, taking a bite of your own food.
"I speak only the truth" he insisted. "You nourish both my body and my soul."
You felt warmth creeping up your face at the way he said that, but you quickly shook it off. "Alright, alright, just eat."
He obeyed, but with every bite, he continued murmuring praisesâabout the seasoning, the texture, the fact that you made it. It was almost exhausting, but at the same time⌠it was nice. He was enthusiastic, if nothing else.
As you finished eating, you leaned back in your chair, watching as he savored the last bite. He looked completely satisfied, his expression peaceful yet utterly devoted.
"If every day is to be like this" he said, voice softer now, "then I know I was born into paradise."
You decided the next step was to get Argenti registered. In this world, adventurers needed proper documentation before they could enter dungeons, farm for points, and trade for necessities. It was a simple processâjust a bit of paperwork and an entrance test to gauge oneâs abilities.
Argenti followed you eagerly, his eyes full of wonder as he took in the bustling city streets. Every now and then, he would stop to admire somethingâa flower stand, a well-crafted statue, even the way the wind rustled the leaves in the trees. You had to tug his sleeve a few times to keep him moving.
"You find joy in the smallest things" you remarked.
He turned to you, smiling as if you had said something profound. "Everything in this world is precious because it is your world."
There he goes again.
At the registration center, the process went smoothly. You filled out the basic forms for himâname, origin (which you had to vaguely put as "new arrival"), and intended role. He was assigned an evaluation test, a simple combat challenge to determine his ranking.
The moment Argenti stepped into the testing area, however, it became clear this wouldnât be just a "simple" evaluation.
The instructors presented him with a standard practice weapon, but Argenti scoffed, clearly unimpressed. "I require a spear" he declared. "Only then will I truly demonstrate my strength."
They hesitated but eventually fetched him a training spear. The moment he took it in his grasp, his entire demeanor shifted.
The test began.
With a single, fluid movement, Argenti lunged at the target dummies. His strikes were elegant yet devastating. When they brought out higher-ranked opponents for a sparring match, he dismantled them effortlessly, countering every move.
The spectators were left speechless.
Of course, heâs overpowered.
The evaluation ended quickly. The instructors whispered among themselves before assigning him an exceptionally high rankingâfar beyond what a newcomer should have.
That was when the real problem began.
Word spread fast, and soon, people started gatheringâparticularly the ladies.
Adventurers, merchants who had been passing by took notice of Argentiâs display. Whispers of admiration filled the air.
"Who is he?"
"He's so strong!"
"And handsome too! Look at that hair! That armor!"
Argenti, however, remained utterly oblivious to their attention.
When one particularly bold woman approached, twirling a strand of her hair flirtatiously, Argentiâs expression barely changed. She smiled sweetly, placing a delicate hand on his arm.
"You must be new here" she cooed. "If you ever need someone to show you around, I'd be delightedâ"
Argenti immediately took a step back, his face unreadable. Then, with utter finality, he turned away from her and walked straight to you.
He knelt before you, grasping your hand in both of his. "My guiding star," he said, loud enough for everyone to hear, "I have completed my trial. Now, let us leave this place."
The murmurs in the crowd grew louder. People exchanged glances, some giggling, others looking envious.
You sighed, feeling their eyes on you. "You didnât have to be that dramatic."
Argenti tilted his head, genuinely confused. "But it is simply the truth."
You decided not to argue. Instead, you grabbed his wrist and pulled him up. "Come on, letâs go buy you some supplies before the dungeon."
As you walked away, you felt several stares boring into your back. You knew exactly what they were thinking.
Just who is this person that Argenti is so devoted to?
And honestly? You werenât sure you had the answer to that either.
The next morning, you and Argenti prepared for your first dungeon run together. You had already bought him proper armor and a real spearâone worthy of his overwhelming strength. As expected, he treated the weapon with great reverence, running his fingers over the polished shaft with something akin to admiration.
"It is a fine weapon" he mused, then turned his gaze to you, green eyes brimming with warmth. "But no blade nor spear shall ever compare to the honor of fighting by your side."
You sighed. "Youâre going to get us killed one day if you keep saying embarrassing things mid-battle."
He chuckled, completely unfazed. "Then I shall die speaking the truth."
At the dungeon entrance, you were approached by another adventuring team. A well-balanced groupâtwo warriors, a healer, and a mage, who seemed competent enough. Their leader, a young man with a confident grin, stepped forward.
"Hey, we saw your ranking from yesterday. You are new but insanely strong. Mind if we join forces? Bigger team means better survival rates, right?"
You exchanged a glance with Argenti. It was true that larger teams had better odds, and since this was Argentiâs first real dungeon run, it might be good to have backup.
"Fine" you said with a nod. "Letâs move quickly. I donât like wasting time."
Argenti remained silent but stood close beside you. His posture was as composed as ever, but there was a certain stiffness to his frameâsomething almost... displeased. Still, he said nothing, merely following your lead as the group entered the dungeon.
From the very start, it was clear that you and Argenti were carrying the team. Your coordination was flawlessâArgentiâs spear danced through the air, tearing through monsters, while you supported him with buffs. The other team members did their best, but there was no denying it: you and Argenti were on a completely different level.
The others were panting by the time you reached the second floor, but you and Argenti were barely breaking a sweat.
"Are you even human?" one of the warriors groaned, wiping sweat from his forehead.
Argenti tilted his head slightly, as if genuinely considering the question. "I am whatever my guiding star wishes me to be."
You shot him a look. "Stop saying weird things."
The warrior chuckled, assuming it was a joke, but the group's mageâa young woman named Elaraâgiggled softly and stepped closer to Argenti.
"Youâre really impressive" she said, brushing her hair over her shoulder. "Have you trained since childhood?"
Argenti didnât respond.
The dungeon crawl continued, and Elara kept finding excuses to stick close to him. She walked beside him, struck up conversation, and even went as far as to lightly grasp his arm when pretending to lose balance.
You noticed, of course. But you werenât particularly bothered. Adventurers naturally gravitated toward the strong, and Argenti was both powerful and strikingly beautiful. It was only natural that someone would take an interest in him.
It doesnât matter. As long as he stayed focused on the mission, you had no reason to intervene.
Argenti, however, had other thoughts.
Each time Elara got too close, his grip on his spear tightened. Whenever she spoke to him, his responses were curt, dismissive. His movements became slightly sharper, his strikes just a fraction more aggressive, as if trying to release some unseen frustration.
Then, when Elara attempted to press even closer, Argenti abruptly moved away, only to step directly behind you.
"My guiding star," he murmured, his voice a whisper against your ear. "Am I permitted to dispose of nuisances?"
You turned your head slightly, raising an eyebrow. "We donât kill our allies."
He sighed, as if deeply inconvenienced. "A shame."
Before you could say anything else, Elara suddenly reached out again. "Argenti, Iâ"
Without even looking at her, Argenti smoothly took your hand and pulled you against his side.
"You seem to misunderstand, lady mage" he said, voice perfectly polite, yet as sharp as the tip of his spear. His grip on you was firm, "I have no need for distractions. My only purpose is to serve them."
Elara stiffened. The rest of her team awkwardly looked away. You could feel the tension radiating from Argentiâs frame, like a storm barely contained beneath his composed facade.
You sighed, squeezing his hand slightly in warning. "Enough. Letâs finish the dungeon."
Argenti didnât argue. But as you continued forward, his fingers remained curled tightly around yours, as if daring anyone to challenge his claim.
After a long but successful dungeon run, your party finally stepped out into the cool night air. The scent of damp stone and moss lingered, but the fresh breeze was a welcome relief after hours in the depths.
"You two are absolute monsters in battle" the team leader laughed, stretching his arms. "Weâve gotta treat you to a meal! No way weâre letting this victory pass without celebration."
You hesitated for a moment, glancing at Argenti. He was still holding your hand from earlier, his grip unwavering even as you stood outside the dungeon.
You saw no harm in accepting. A free meal after a long day? You werenât going to turn that down.
"Fine" you said with a shrug. "Just donât pick a place too expensive."
Elara perked up immediately, clasping her hands together. "Oh! I know a great place! Itâs got the best drinks and atmosphere in town!"
Argentiâs grip subtly tightened. You ignored it.
The restaurant was lively, filled with the chatter of adventurers, merchants, and travelers alike. Plates of steaming food covered the table, and the other party members eagerly dug in.
Argenti, however, barely touched his food. He sat beside you, his green eyes never straying too far from your form. He did, however, accept anything you placed on his plateâthough you noticed he seemed to enjoy it more when you personally handed him a piece.
"Everything tastes better when it is from your hand" he murmured at one point.
You ignored the way your face heated slightly and focused on eating.
Elara, sitting across from Argenti, had been quiet for a while. Then, at some point during the meal, she subtly waved her fingers beneath the table.
A faint shimmer flickered in the air. A spell.
At first, you didnât notice. But when Argenti suddenly stiffened beside you, his breathing growing uneven, you turned your head sharply.
"Argenti?"
His hand trembled slightly as he reached for his cup but failed to grasp it properly. His vision was unfocused, his usual sharpness dulled.
"I feelâŚ" he exhaled heavily, his voice quieter than usual. "WearyâŚ"
Elaraâs lips curled slightly. "Oh my," she feigned concern. "He mustâve overexerted himself in battle today. Poor thing."
That was not exhaustion from battle.
Elara had done something.
Without hesitation, you reached for Argenti, steadying him as he leaned against you. His head rested against your shoulder, warm but unnaturally heavy.
"Letâs get out of here" you muttered.
Elara blinked. "Waitâso soon? The nightâs just started!"
You ignored her, wrapping an arm around Argenti to support him. His entire body felt like dead weight, his breathing shallow but steady. He wasnât in immediate danger, but whatever spell she had used had clearly taken a toll on him.
You werenât about to leave him like this.
With some effort, you managed to get him up and out of the restaurant. The others barely reacted, assuming he had just had too much to drink.
Elara, however, was less than pleased.
She had expected him to turn his attention toward her, to weaken his ridiculous obsession with you. Instead, all she had done was exhaust him.
By the time you got him to the inn nearby and into your room, Argenti was barely conscious. His head lolled slightly, but he stubbornly clung to you, refusing to let go even as you tried to ease him onto the bed.
"You areâŚ" he murmured, voice slurred, "the only light I seeâŚ"
"Yeah, yeah, I get it. Now get some rest."
You reached to pull his gauntlets off, making him more comfortable. But as you did, his hands suddenly shot up, grasping your wrists.
"You will not leave" he whispered. His grip, even in his weakened state, was firm. "Please stay..."
With a sigh, you sat on the edge of the bed. "Fine. But only until you fall asleep."
As you carefully unfastened Argentiâs armor, the weight of his exhaustion became more evident. His usual strength had been drained away, leaving him in an unfamiliar state of weakness. You worked efficiently, making sure he was comfortable as you finally laid him down on the bed.
But as soon as your hands left him, a strange sensation washed over you. Your body tingled, as if something deep inside you had been activated. A pull, an unseen force, began drawing your energy toward him, flowing into him like a tide shifting toward shore.
The connection from the egg, the unseen bond that tethered you and Argenti together, was responding to his weakened state. Without your permission, your energy surged forward, filling the void left in him.
A soft exhale left Argentiâs lips as the faintest color returned to his cheeks. His breathing steadied, and you could see the tension in his body ease slightly. He was getting better.
But youâŚ
Your limbs suddenly felt heavy.
Your eyelids drooped, exhaustion overtaking you in waves.
The warmth of his body beneath your fingertips felt inviting, and before you could stop yourself, you slumped forward.
A quiet gasp left Argenti when your body pressed against his. Even in his weakened state, his arms instinctively wrapped around you, securing you against his chest.
You were too tired to resist.
The steady rise and fall of his breath lulled you further, and soon, everything faded into a peaceful sleep.
Argenti stirred slightly, his fingers twitching as his awareness slowly returned.
The first thing he registered was warmth.
The second was you.
Lying atop him, nestled against his chest, your body soft and warm in his arms. He could feel your energy intertwined with his, as if your very essence had poured into him to heal him.
His grip on you tightened ever so slightly.
Even now, you gave yourself to him.
Even unknowingly, your body, your soulâeverythingâgravitated toward him.
How beautiful.
His lips curled into a small, pleased smile.
Argenti carefully adjusted your position, lifting you with surprising gentleness despite the exhaustion that had once plagued him. You slept soundly, your body still recovering from the energy you had unknowingly given him.
He took a moment to admire you, his eyes tracing the peaceful expression on your face. Soft breaths, warm skin, the faintest scent of you lingering in the airâit was soothing, so intoxicatingly his.
But there was something that still needed to be taken care of.
With one last lingering touch, he pulled the blanket over you and silently left the room.
A few hours later. He returned. Not a single trace of fatigue lingered in his steps. His posture was as composed as ever, his armor pristine, not a single drop of blood marring his silver gauntlets.
He sat on the edge of the bed, watching you stir slightly.
When your eyes fluttered open, you blinked up at him sleepily.
"Youâre back?" you murmured, your voice still drowsy.
He reached out, gently brushing a strand of hair from your face. "Of course" he said smoothly. "Did you sleep well?"
You nodded, stretching a little before sitting up. "Yeah. I think I needed that."
He smiled. There was no trace of the earlier spellâs effects on him. He looked as radiant and composed as always. You stretched again and stood up, rubbing the sleep from your eyes as you both prepared to return home.
The town square was bustling, as always.
But something caught your eye.
A missing poster.
Your steps slowed for a brief moment as you took in the sketch on the parchment.
Elara
She was gone.
Your brows furrowed slightly, but you didnât dwell on it for long. You never liked her anyway. With a shrug, you kept walking, letting the poster fade into the background of the busy street.
Behind you, Argentiâs expression was unreadable.
But deep down, he was pleased.
You had seen the evidence of his work.
And yet, you chose to ignore it.
You were learning.
Good.
He intertwined his fingers with yours as you continued walking.
This life, the one where he stood by your side, where he belonged to you and you to him, was all he ever wanted.
And as long as you stayed his, he would make sure nothing, and no one, would ever get in the way.

NO TIP?

pairing â racer!jeno x reader w - noncon, misogyny, g - dark, smut | masterlist
summary â you had been working on a new paint job for a pretty well known racers car. when he comes in to pick it up and you tell him it wonât be done until tomorrow, he switches gears and starts being a total asshole. you tell him to just get out, but he makes sure to give you a tip before he goes.
a/n â hencheri got this stuck in my head after this and this specific post, so i had to make something about this
youâd been working on a paint job for a pretty well known racers car for a couple days now. you think the guys name was jeno? you worked at a car shop but you didnât keep up with that type of stuff. you hadnât actually met him, but you were the one whoâs been doing all the paint work for him. a new shiny coat on his expensive car for his show. youâd kill to have a car like this, it was nice as fuck.
you heard the door open and you realized it was probably him. you forgot that you hadnât called to let him know that itâd be another day as the car needed some more time to dry. you fully prepare yourself for him to be a little angry, but you couldâve never prepared yourself for what heâd do instead of throwing a few snarky remarks at you. he walks up to your counter and eyes you up and down with an almost confused look on his face before he looks back at his car and turns back around to face you.
âiâm here to pick that up. should be under the name jeno.â
you cough before biting the inside of your cheek preparing for an outburst of some sort.
âsorry sir, it should be fully dried by tomorrow. itâs still a bit tacky.â
you swear he gave you a dirty look, but whatever, it was better than him screaming at you. you couldnât speed up how fast a car could dry. if you could, you would, itâd make your job a lot easier.
âare you the one working on my car?â
âuhm, yes?â
he scoffs before looking back over at his car once again. he mumbled a âno fucking wayâŚâ under his breath and you just rolled your eyes before turning around to reach something hanging on the wall behind the counter.
âso then you wouldnât know if itâs done or not.â
you still for a second and laugh slightly under your breath before you turn back to face him. what the hell was he talking about?
âsir, i worked on it, therefore i know that itâs doneâŚeven if i hadnât painted your car, which i did, itâs pretty obvious to anybody that your car isnât done. you can go touch it if you want, itâs still sticky to the touch.â
you hadnât meant for it to come out with such attitude, but he was literally doing the same thing to you. you knew he was a racer or some shit but that doesnât mean you should just bow down to him.
âi hope youâre not expecting a tip.â
seriously? he probably makes thousands a month and he canât spare you a fucking tip? look at that nice ass paint job you just did. a gorgeous bright red, and itâd look even better when it was completely dry and shiny. you just ignore his comment and move over to him at the register.
âcash or card?â
he just slams the cash on the table without making a sound and you go to count it before he opens his mouth for yet another snarky remark.
âyou really think i didnât give you enough? you think i donât got enough money, huh?â
you have to hold back from giving him a dirty look which was insanely hard by the way, and youâre sure you gave him some sort of look anyways because he made sure to give you a nasty look right after you had felt your eyebrows scrunch together at him.
âi have to count, sir. itâs got nothing to do with my personal beliefs. despite you not tipping..â
he slams his hand on the counter and you knew he had heard you.
âso, what? youâre just some greedy bitch whoâs tryna empty out my pockets?â
you would have just told him to take the car and go but itâd literally be done by tomorrow and he already gave you the cash and you knew with his status that itâd be made into some huge deal. you put the money into the register and step back before placing your hands against your hips.
âexcuse me? you can leave. you can pick up your car tomorrow since you already paid. unless youâve got anymore questions, you can see yourself out.â
he looks down at the counter for a second before you see his fingers start to grip against the glass.
âiâve got a few questions actually, maâam.â
he takes a step towards the entrance of the counter.
âhow long you been working here?â
he doesnât give you a chance to answer before he take another step towards the opening to enter behind the counter.
âyouâre a woman, what makes you think you have any business working here?â
heâs standing right at the opening to the counter now and you open your mouth but a small sound only gets the chance to slip out before he cuts you off again.
âyou want a tip so bad, right?â
heâs takes his last step and is now fully behind the counter, standing right in front of you and staring you down intensely. you take a small step back and he quickly grabs your shoulder, his finger nails digging deeply into it.
âso why donât i fucking give you one.â
he immediately turns you over by your shoulder and presses you against his back, wrapping a hand around your waist so you couldnât get away from him. the place was empty, you were meant to close up tonight. you didnât know what the hell he wanted. he literally just paid you the exact cash you needed, no way it was a robbery. you curse at him to let you go but he pulls you from behind the counter and over towards his car. he feels you up on the way there, forcing a hand into your pants and attempting to finger you, and thatâs when you realized what he wanted and what was going to happen.
finally, you let out at least five screams before he slams a hand over your mouth. you were standing in front of the hood of his car now and you could feel his boner poking you right in the ass.
he continued to shove his fingers into you mercilessly and pulling out every few seconds to add a weak attempt at providing your clit attention. you stomp on his foot and he lets out a pained sound and a âyou fucking bitchâ before he pulls his hand out of your pants and shoves you onto the still tacky sticky hood of his car. you put your hands onto the side of the hood to push yourself up but he quickly presses his hand against your back to hold you down. you try to swing your arms back at him, hoping to hit something, but it does nothing, obviously. his other hand is still tight on your face and itâs threatening to slide up and cover your nose.
âwhatâs up with you uptight bitches, huh? thought you wanted a tip? iâd say fucking with a racer is a pretty big tip, right?â
he pushes your pants down along with your panties before you hear a belt from behind you and your pathetic squirms below him get more intense and reckless.
âyou wanna be a bitch, right? iâll treat you like a bitch then.â
and right then, he pushes his dick right in you. no easing, no stopping, he just goes right into you and immediately starts thrusting. you start to whine underneath him and you move your feet up from the floor hoping to hit him, but he just steals your idea and kicks you right in the back of your calf, hard. you immediately scream into his palm and feel like youâre sinking deeper into his car. you just lie there for a little, breathing heavy and you move your eyes up slowly and through his windshield youâre able get a slight look at the situation. you felt disgusting. you could see the sweat sticking to his face, his bangs bouncing with every relentless movement. and from how much you were sticking to the car, your body barely even moved from all the thrusts he was making. all you heard was the slight creakiness and bouncing of the car and his grunts and shitty moans. you hated him.
âyou feel how big this tip is slut? wanna complain like a stripper not gettinâ enough money.â
he leans down into your ear and his thrusts suddenly quicken like a machine.
âmaybe thisâll teach you not to take menâs jobs. whatâs a woman like you even doing in an area like this?â
you whine against the palm of his hand and you just shake your head no. not at anything he said in particular, but just the whole situation. you try to mumble a few âstopsâ underneath his palm, and you know that he hears them. you know he understands you donât want this, but why the fuck would he care? was this really all because you were working at a job predominantly done by menâŚ? seriously? when you feel yourself squeeze around him and hear him laugh, you feel absolutely disgusted with yourself and your body. your pussy was getting wetter and wetter, finally making noises everytime that his balls slapped against it. you get frustrated and you start sobbing angrily into his palm, stomping like a child against the floor. you would kick him again, but you knew the next time he kicked you right back, itâd be ten times worse than the first time. and so what if you managed to kick him off of you anyway? you wouldnât get that far. he was ten times bigger than you and with your pants halfway down your legs, youâd trip over your own feet before you could even get one step in. the only thing you could do was wait until he was finished.
when you feel his fingernails squeeze into your back and feel something leak down your legs, you know exactly what it is and just pray that thatâs enough and that this is all over. and when you hear the fabric of his pants brush against his legs and his belt clasp, your hopes have been fulfilled. or at least thatâs what you thought. he didnât release the palm that was on your mouth, only having moved his hand off of your back, now giving you more room to squirm. but he doesnât let you get up. he moves the palm from your mouth to your head, pressing your cheek into the car and you can only yell so much in a position like that.
âget off of me! take your car and just go!â
you hear him scoff from behind you and you feel him circle his fingers on your clit before sliding them alllll the way down your slit until finally pushing them into your embarrassingly wet hole.
âyouâd think after all that youâd get rid of that bitchy fukinâ attitude.â
he continues to finger you but once you feel him push a third finger in, you have to stop a moan from slipping. you try to move your hands up the car to create as much distance as you could between you and him. it became painful to do so as the paint had started to dry to your hands, but you continued anyways. but it wasnât doing anything though, his fingers only follow you.
âweâre gonna stay here until you stop your bitching.â
and thatâs when he slips a fourth finger in and you can feel yourself clench, and this time your body doesnât let go, holding onto his fingers for dear life and he lets out a sick laugh. the moment you can tell that youâre about to cum all over his fingers, you try to push yourself up the car even more, becoming desperate, but it only encourages him to play with your clit as well now and he pushes your face harder against the car.
âiâm sorryâiâm sorry! okay? you can have the car for freeâplease!â
he scoffs and ignores your whining and continues to thrust his fingers into you. you became desperate, okay? what more could you do besides beg him to stop? he didnât like your attitude? okay then, maybe your begging for mercy would detour him! but thatâs not what he wanted. he wanted to strip you of any confidence and pride that you once had. he wanted to absolutely humiliate you. and when he saw you finish all over his fingers, he knew that had had. he immediately pulls his fingers out and he slaps your ass while laughing before moving back and you can hear him fumbling with something. you quickly push yourself up off of his car and it feels as if the skin is about to be ripped off of your face, but luckily, none comes off. when you finally free your face from the car hood, youâre met with a sight that would forever be engraved in your mind. your face print was totally embedded into his car. your hand prints littered it as well, and although your work top prevented a perfect outline, your chest was imprinted on there as well.
you quickly pull up your pants and go to move back but he quickly walks up beside you and throws an arm into your shoulder before looking down at you.
âit looks good doesnât it?â
you just stare at it in disgust and he throws his shoulder off of you before taking a step back, grabbing his wallet and reaching in it before throwing a couple sorry ass twenty dollar bills at you like you were some stripper and a white strip of paper that lands on the car. you pick it up and realize it was a ticket to one of his shitty racing shows.
âyouâre lucky iâm giving you one for free, front row too. better see you there, i want you to see my awesome new car design in action.â
he points to the prints on his car and you snap your head up to him, face wet with tears and painted with concern. you didnât want to keep that shit on his car. so what if people didnât know that the face print was yours? thatâs humiliating as fuck! he squats down to your level as if you were a child and throws a hand onto your arm, squeezing it threateningly.
âif those prints arenât still there by the time i pick it up tomorrow, i can assure you that youâll see me again.â
he straightens his knees again, menacingly looking down at you before slowly removing his hand from your arm, dragging out every second before his hand finally drops and he simply just walks away. you just stand there stunned, money surrounding you and his car staring you dead in your face.
you turn to your side to get one last look at it. what were you supposed to tell your boss about what the hell that was? you can see yourself once again in the reflection of the windshield, your face has red paint all on its side and your hair is sticking up in a million different places, bits of paint stuck in it as well. a million showers would never be able to wash away what happened tonight, and a crummy hundred dollar tip didnât make up for it either.
you stare the money dead in the face and let your tears drip onto the numbers printed on the paper. youâd be thankful if you never got a tip from somebody ever again.

stoic!kuna x bubbly!blackgf
you didnât understand a lot of things. physics, chemistry, math, in any form, god math.. you hated that stupid fucking subject. but more than anything, what vexed you most on the planet, was your boyfriend, sukuna.
he was so cold and stoic, you never really saw him display any form of emotion other than straight up dissatisfaction. other than when he was absolutely fucking your brains out, which he currently was.
you were in the meanest mating press, your knees nearly pressed against the pillow behind your head as he brought the full weight of his body down every time he thrusted forward. the bed shook viciously, headboard banging against the wall. âah- ah! k-kuna!â
he grunted in response, his nails digging in your hips from how tight his grip was, he was staring at how his cock slid in and out you, soaked with your juices as his hips smacked against yours, back and forthâplap plap plap!
âshit soâhah-fuckin good mama.â he growled as he worked his hips forward. every time he fucked you it felt like losing your virginity all over again. he split you open so good, it was white hot pain but deep intense pleasure.
your boyfriend couldnât get enough of you, likeâ ever. he wasnât the best at showing you how much he loved or cared for you, displays of affection just werenât really his thing, but when he was balls deep inside of you? god call him a fuckin romanticâ
âso fuckinâah shitâ wetâŚall fâme hm ma?â he growled as he held you in place and drilled your hole. you swore you could feel your life essence slipping from you. ây-yes.. sâfuh you kuna.. all yours..ângh- sâyours babyâ
he couldâve nearly came on the spot at the way you sounded so desperate to please him with your words and cunt as it fluttered and spasmed around his cock. his head was high in the clouds.
âfuckin love this pussyâfuckâ fuckin love you.â he muttered, completely pussy drunk from the way your spongey walls gripped and swallowed him. your eyes shot to his face, and he was already looking at you.
wait what?
he could see the shock on your face and he smirked as he leaned his body in real close, his face right in front of yours, his hips still slotting back and forth as he looked down at you.
âsâright gorgeous. i love you.â he breathed softly before kissing you deeply, his hips snapping against yours with vigor. you mewled into the kiss, arms wrapping around his neck to bring him closer as he swallowed every sound you made before he pulled away.
he looked at you and you couldâve swore you saw hearts in his eyes, a heat flushing in your chest and abdomen. âi- i love you too kunaâ you whined as your eyes started to roll back.
he wouldnât outright admit it at least not yet, but he loved you more than anything on earth or any realm. so much so thatâ
âmarry me mamaâ he blurted out, he wanted to propose properly, take you out in a nice dinner date and surprise you but, he couldnât keep waiting, he loved you now, wanted you to be his wife now.
you were stunned into silence, you couldnât tell if it was how deep his cock was hitting as it repeatedly bullied your cervix or the fact your boyfriend, of nearly two years, just asked you to be his wife.
âwantâoh fuck.. want you to have my babies maâ he breathed out in a.. whine? your big, brooding boyfriend who never so much as flinched at anything? is whining, asking you to be his wife and carry his children as he railed you?
how could you deny him? especially since he sounded so pretty whining and begging to be your husband and you were mere milliseconds from having quite possibly the best orgasm heâs ever given you.
you cunt clamped his dick, your orgasm tearing through you, as tears began to prick the corners of your eyes and fall âyes.. yesyesyes kunaâ yes!â you whined as your juices flowed out of you covering the sheets and his cock and balls triggering his own orgasm.
his hips faltered as he slammed into you once last time groaning as he pressed your bodies together âgonna make you the prettiest mama nâ wife ohmygoddd fuckâ his cum rocketing out of him like a pressure washer into your cunt, his cock pushing deeper to ensure all of his seed made it deep into your womb.
he wasnât the best with showing affection all the time, but his actions..these actions?
maybe your boyfriend fiancĂŠ and future husband was starting to make sense after all.
a/n: iâm on my cycle and iâm craving a family with his insane ass, thatâs actually so normal, iâm normal. đ
happy v-day hornies! <3

being jjâs passenger princess after a long day at work was a god send, especially when he treats you exactly how he shouldâŚ
âcan i borrow your lipstick?â
âyeah, itâs somewhere in here.â
the clatter of items from the two girl's bag's fills the silence of the dingy tikki barâs bathroom, bringing you back to reality as you blink slowly in the mirror, hands gripping the porcelain sink as you sigh.
rude customers, and pervy old men, mixed with the heatwave the outer banks was currently suffering was a recipe for disaster, leaving you in a fowl mood all night, counting down the hours until you could stumble into your bestfriendâs truck and into john bâs guest bed with him.
at the distant buzz of your phone a wave of relief washes over you, reaching into the back pocket of your jean shorts, eyes landing on the little buzzing screen, lit up with his name.
pressing your back against the wall, you jab at the screen eagerly with a fingernail painted with chipper glittery polish, bringing to phone to your ear, breathing out an exhausted 'hey.â fiddling with the hem of your uniformed waist apron.
"mâ outback, yâ need me to come walk you out? âs gettinâ dark- pretty fast." he hums, the sound of the blinker in background as he pulls into the parking lot.
you nod like he can see you, pressing into the corner of your eye with your ring finger, swiping away an rogue flake of mascara, before settling for an exhausted. âuh- nah, itâs fine. be one sec.â before promptly ending the call.
the slap of your sandals against the tarmac speeds up as you approach him, arms folded over his chest with that knowing smirk on his face, leaning against the hood of the twinkie.
you almost groan at the sight, tan forearms bulging unfairly. you practically throw yourself into his waiting arms, leaning your head on his shoulder. heâs startled for a second, eyes going wide, but then his arms are encircling your waist and his lips pressed to your crown, fighting the urge to kiss the skin softly, settling for just inhaling your shampoo.
âi fuckinâ missed you - never thought iâd say it." you hum jokingly, pulling away to look him in the eyes, his hands sliding lower to rest on the backs of your thighs. "missed you too my girl - always do." he says, titling his head down towards you with a teasing pout.
your heart flips at that, his girl, you knew, duh, just nice for it to be affirmed, especially when heâs looking at you like that in an empty parking lot. makes you contemplate if this friendship was worth ruining just to persue your fantasies.
âcmon, gimme some sugar.â he smirks, and itâs joking of course, but who is jj if not persistent? so he leans down a little anyway, doesnât expect to feel the wet smush of your lips to his jaw, only now does he realise youâre a little tipsy - having been sneaking shots under the bar all day just to deal with your shift.
"that new?" he asks, feigning nonchalance when you pull away, running a gentle thumb across your chin to wipe away some excess gloss.
"yeah- got it last week. donât you just looove it?" you smile hopefully and he nods, chucking softly as your excited little pout, hands sliding up and down your thighs as he replies, supportive as ever. "damn right- i love it. might cop myself some." he teases, giving a fleeting pat to your denim covered ass, rounding the car to open your door, gesturing for you to get in.
your cheeks heat up at the casual act, following his footsteps. "think yâ a gentleman? you ainât foolinâ anyone." you grin, taking his hand to hop up into the truck, he averts his gaze, jaw clenching when you stumble, falling with your literal ass in the air.
once youâre situated, hand still in his, so flustered as he presses his chapped lips to your hand, charming smirk on his face, hair all disheveled and looking edible in the orange glow of the streetlights. âi am - only for you though, mama.â
he rounds the car to sink months agoat, turning the key in the ignition and you can't help admire the way his forearms tense at the action. the car kicks to life and you're both off.
after driving for five or so minutes, you were getting a little restless, unable to ignore how perfectly his jawline was highlighted by the streetlights, or how the hand heâd smoothly rested on your thigh was slowly sliding further and further towards where you wanted - scratch that, needed it most.
you weren't even sure he knew what he was doing to you, but you couldn't wait to find out. it was pathetic really, just how easily you could go from 0 to 100, but you were past the point of caring, and all you was for him to make you feel good.
on impulse, you reach for the hand caressing your thigh, his eyes flit to you, unsure of what you're intention was until he meets your eyes. he could recognise that glazed over needy look anywhere, the one you get when youâre scouting out boys at the boneyard, or the beach, or wherever, all this time heâs wanted you to look at him like that, and now you were? he thinks heâs gonna stop breathing.
you drag his hand gently up your body to rest on your tit, which he squeezes on instinct, eyes only half focused on the road. he lets out a gruff, unsure call of your name, clearing his throat, wondering if he should stop.
the action illicites a pretty little whimper from you, which he takes as motivation to keep you making those noises. he darts his eyes between the busy road and you, legs spread and lips parted, eyes fluttering gently as he rubs a thumb over your pebbled nipple through the bobbly material of your graphic tee, scarce of a thick enough bra.
navigating the bustle of traffic was a challenge in itself, but now he'd have to multitask, dipping his hand down between your legs, already feeling the warmth radiating off of you through your denim shorts as you eagerly begin popping the buttons, head thrown back against the head rest, eyes on him. âplease, jay..." you mewl, and he knows the risks. but fortunately for you, jj likes a challenge.

Chapter 1: I see you
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/d8013ebf6cf8544c042d9074e30046d0/f2582d785712c3e6-b6/s540x810/7d1235d3829038e37edab2bec78070a66f0eb25a.jpg)
Bruce overlooking his paperwork and plans of capturing crimminals and crime rates, he felt his stomach grumble. Seeing the grandfather clock tick a 11:15 p.m. he smiled âJust in time for Lunch.â He felt a bit sad knowing he is eating alone today, Dick being Bludhaven, Jason never really visiting, Tim out somewhere with Conner, and Damian out doing voluntary work in a animal shelter. What a lonely time to be in the manor.
   Scratch  Â
Heavy breathing was on the otherside of the door he saw you , (Name) how different you were usually ⌠out? But itâs better than eating alone and it would be nice to converse with you , he called you but why do you look at him like that. You arm is bleeding from your intensive scratching , eyes forcing itself not to cry what happened? Why do you look like you died?  â(Name), what are you doing?â you turn to him. âOH- um⌠Just anxious thatâs allâ Bruce narrowed his eyes as you look down slowing down on the scratching. âAbout what?â He sat next to you ,why is he so tall?!
âJustâŚI had a nightmare.â GREAT (NAME) (MIDDLENAME) WAYNE , heâs gonna think youâre a huge incompetent baby. Nice going , idiot your mind screams at you. Bruce blinks he feels so amused , how adorable he just wants to pinch your cheeks and coax you to sleep. He chuckled lightly âWhat happened in your nightmare?â he canât believe he is having a normal parent to child conversation.  Honestly, your not sure if you can tell him , since it wasnât a dream you died and then you just time travel back 2 weeks before your death. â I was walking back to the manor after work.â Bruce hid his shock as you mentioned having a job. âThere was a man âŚâ your head throbbed as you try to see your memory clear. âHe touched , choke, thenâŚNo, No it was choke , someone else touched me, then  a gun was shoved in my mouth.â Your head throbbed harder as your heart was trying to break out your ribs. âSomething happened , câmon rememberâ you hit your stupid head trying to make your death clear as you start mumbling curse words.
Bruce stood still not knowing how to respond , he held your hands. âDonât . Stop. Just donât think about it.â He was comforting you , now that he had a good look at you. When did you get so tall? Werenât you just a seedling a month ago? (Name) when did you get your nails done? Why are your eyes so tired? Werenât you trailing Dick and Tim to play with you? When did your hair changed? Alfred eyes widen as he seeâs Bruce hugging you with what looks like a panic attack.  âLunch is hereâ
What is wrong with you? Why the hell did you cry infront of him! Never once did Bruce took the time with you. He always seemed so occupied with his little only boys squad doing who knowâs what! Itâs so weird they are always fighting at the gym with Dick , Tim , and Damian (Rarely Jason), they are so secretive that you just stopped asking questions. Pacing in your quaint room with all this awards from last place to gold , you stare at them how much you lost and won over the years. Yet, you held every lost with pride because you tried well thatâs what Alfred tells you.
A sudden text came in your phone as you see your manager asking you if your free in 2 weeks in Tuesday. You stared at your phone , you died at Tuesday. A normal Tuesday nothing special about the date but you died. You died, you left the message seen. Staring at yourself in the mirror you said to the mirror. âAm I doing enough to worth living?â Years , hours , days and seconds of awards in your room but not one moment of them stood out. All of this rewards werenât for you , they were for them.
You look at the photo stand of your family I the gala, you were always the one who they claim to protect you but they never tell you anything . Laughing among their little group never explaining to you or care to want you to join in. Even in movie nights it feels like your watching them instead of the movie. Game nights were just you being some extra player they never needed. You grimace as you hid the photo frame of your table. Your childhood was dedicated to appease their eyes , your life to make interesting so they can be interested in your welbecoming but you died. Dead with nothing to remember.
A robin in a tree chirping in the trees as the gotham sky in a rare moment glows gold  like heavens gate, the sun shinning, the air crisp and fresh . The robin turns itâs head to you tilting itâs head but flies away with the other birds in the sky. âFucking heavens , God if this a sign I am not gonna take this second chance for granted.â You muster a trembling smile. âI am gonna lived.â You took your phone.
(Name), are you free the week after this at Tuesday 8:00 a.m.?
                                                                                                                      Â
I quit. Thank you for the experience.
I genuinely hope this is readable

Safe space~
Pairing: Damian Wayne x Fem!Crush!Reader
Warnings: none
Damian needed to get out of the house.
Immediately.
Somehow, everybody seemed to be pushing his buttons just right, from the way Jason would just come in unannounced and eat the food while chewing loudly, Dick trying to invade his personal space while completely yelling in his ear, and when Tim would enter a room he was in he would get this annoyed and ticked off feeling that just had him puffing and glaring at the tired man. He needed to leave the manor or else the entire building would be ashes on the ground in the next ten minutes. Bruce was nowhere to be seen and Alfred was doing his own little thing in the kitchen, probably feeding a very hungry Jason.
Damian hides himself in a black car that belonged to his father, a nice old Aston Martin DBS and as he sits in the driver's seat with his phone in his hands he can only stare at the screen, thumbs typing away.
Damian: are you awake?
His eyes glance up at the time on his phone, reading 10:37 pm. He hopes youâre awake, considering itâs a school night after all. He waits for a response, three minutes go by and his phone vibrates in his hands.
You: yeah was literally about to go to bed and rote until 3 am.
You: why? Wanna play Roblox?
You: see I told you it wasnât so bad. Now I got you addicted đđ¤
Damian rolls his eyes at his screencast shaking his head as he starts to type. On your side of the screen, you can see the bubble disappear and appear, for a solid minute before he finally sends the message.
Damian: if you are not busy, I would like for you to accompany me.
You: YAY ROADTRIPđŠ
You: where we going?
You: also Iâm like broke .38 cents isnât really going get me anything.
Damian: Anywhere. I just need to get out of the house to take a breather and donât worry about it, whatever you need Iâll get it for you.
You: you okay? Did something happen?
Damian: No. Just be ready when I get there.
You: okayđ
He really hates that stupid emoji.
Youâre running out the door when you get the âIâm hereâ message from him and Damian watches as you almost miss a step and trip over your own feet. You make it into his car in one piece and buckle yourself in.
Damian can see that you were getting ready to lay in bed, entering his car with your hair out of your face, all cozied up with warm black pants that had kuromis imprinted all over, and a black zip-up sweater thatâs keeping you warm.
âHelloooo~â you breathe out, placing your tote bag on your lap as you glance at Damian âSo where we going?â
âAre you hungry?â
âYeahâŚ.but I wanna skip the meal and go straight for the dessert!â
âAre you sure?â
âYeahâ you shrug âwe got free will, why not use itâ
This is where you were now, in the car as your choice of music plays softly, after Damian so kindly gave you the Aux after complaining about his music taste for a solid minute. Your seat is, moved back giving you room to get comfortable as you face Damian with your leg bent over the other.
You seem to be yapping away with the milkshake in hand as you wave it around slightly and he listens, eating away at his ice cream cone as he watches your every move.
Damian feels at ease, relaxing up against his seat as he glances at youâeyeing every feature on your face. From every eyelash to every acne scar to every birthmark to the smile lines that grace your face. Heâs memorized them by now. You feel his eyes on you, and as you glance up to stare up at him he looks away shyly.
Clearly out of character for him.
âIs there something on my face?â you question as your arms reach out to pull down the car's visor, seeing as it had a little mirror to look at with little lights to see in the dark âDo I have whipped cream on me?â
âNo⌠just thinkingâ he breathes out, eyes fixed out ahead of him.
You hum, eyes never leaving the visor as you answer back âDoes that have anything to do with why you wanted to get out of the house tonight?â
He doesnât answer instead, he takes a glance back at you. Youâre staring back at him with a questionable look, visor now put back up. He takes a look at your hand, fingernails shining in the moonlight.
âDid you get your nails done?â Heâs quick with the topic change, seeing as you glance down to show him but you retreat your hand back with a glare.
âDonât change the subject!â
It takes hums a moment to answer before sighing âIt was nothing seriousâŚ.every little thing my brothers did irritate meâ
âAhâŚsibling irritationâ you let out a breathy laugh âI get it, your brothers can be a handful sometimesâ
At least you get him, others really wouldnât, and his father sometimes doesnât. Itâs not like he had any siblings growing up anyway. Sometimes people would disagree with him, but you seem to agree with everything he says even if heâs wrong, which is rare, but you still do anyway.
Sooner or later the conversation seems to shift from a different topic to another different topicâand it seems like the cycle continues for hours.
He likes this.
You arenât loud, you arenât slurping away at your drink and your presence doesnât seem to annoy him at all.
Yeah, he enjoys your presence more than anyone he knows.
and as he finishes the last of his ice cream he clutches his head, groaning as he hears you laugh.
âBrain freeze dumbassâ
He starts to laugh too, and now the car is filled with your giggles and his breathy laughs.
YeahâŚ. Youâre his little safe space and heâll do anything to protect it.
Was literally supposed to post something for Valentineâs Day but I ended up getting the flu plus strep throat and an ear infection all at once so I couldnât write it đ.

And now here you are face down ass up with ur ass out and ready to be fucked, and with Clark who had all his clothes stripped with his huge massive cock hanging right in the middle of his Luscious thighs.

You promised..â Clark pouts. Resting his chin on your ass. âWell that was until I was the one getting fucked!!â You protested. â please? Just this once..â those stupid puppy eyes..he always gives you those puppy eyes when he wants something really bad. But who could say no to a face like that?. With a of your eyes You sigh in defeat. âFine..but only this once!â Clark smiles and nods.
He grabs both of your cheeks. Spreading them to take a look at your pretty pink and hairless hole.
Licking his lips he sticks out his tongue and teasingly licks a huge stripe up your ass. âMhm..â you moan quietly. Covering your mouth with your hands. Legs already shaking from the pleasure. He licks the inside of your hole. Slithering around your gummy walls. His hand raises and landed straight on your ass. Leaving a huge red imprint. You flinch at the pain but feel a bit of pleasure from it. He gives your ass a few harsh spanks and rubs the sore spots. He continues to lick your hole until itâs nice and lose and ready for him.
âYou ready for this cock hm?â His cock is as hard as a rock. He lines it up to your hole and pushes the tip in. âY-yes daddy! I want it so bad..!â With that he slams in. Practically making your belly bulge from the force. You moan so loudly you forgot to even cover your mouth. Your eyes rolling at the back of your head. Pounding in and out of your hole so hard. Clarkâs cock starts to twitch. He grunts through every thrust, getting closer and closer to cumming. And so were you âc-cummi daddy!!â Your eyes roll to the back of your head (I mean whoâs wouldnât??) gripping the sheets âcum with me baby. Cmon cum with daddy.!â Grunting and whimpering bounces off the walls. Clarkâs thrusts gets more sloppy and messy. He moans cumming into your hole. Filling every crevice and painting your gummy walls with white slimy cum. He pants, collapsing beside you, chest breathing up and down rapidly. âThat..t-that was so good..fuck my ass hurts though..â you both laugh and sigh, Clark grabs you by the waist. Bringing the blanket up and big spoons you. He inserts his cock in your ass and adjusted it in. âW-wait I thought we were done?!â You said with those stupid cute and confused eyes. âCmon puppy..this is only the beginning we still have all night to go..maybe even all evening..so prepare yourself ;3..â

Be my valentine
Rafayel x reader
Fluff
1.4k words
You try to ask Rafayel to be your valentine. The keyword is try.
A/N. First time I have written something for a holiday or event and actually managed to post it in time! Basically, I couldn't sleep, and Rafayel possessed me. Hope y'all enjoy!
Is this...rejection?
You'd spent some time planning it, even bribed Thomas to get Rafayel the day off. But when you and Rafayel arrived at your usual spot at the beach. He didn't seem to take note of the seagulls at all.
The seagulls you had somehow managed to train into landing in the right order so the letters you stuck to them would ask him to be your valentine. Now, you'd be the first to admit, the whole plan was a little crazy, but with your and Rafayel's history and connection to the seagulls choir, you'd thought it would be cute.
If it had been any more subtle, you might've believed he genuinely missed it. But it's quite hard to believe someone like Rafayel would not see the literal seagull choir the two of you were here to visit. So naturally, you had to assume he was letting you down easy.
Even being let down easy hurt. It completely blindsided you. You were absolutely certain something had been brewing between you and the artist. Hell, last time you'd spent time with him after wearing new perfume, he'd spent about an hour shoving his face against you to breathe you in. You were SO certain that crossed the line of platonic.
You start questioning if perhaps you'd been reading social interactions wrong your entire life, as next to you, Rafayel starts getting antsy.
"Cutie, as much as the sky is beautiful today and I would love to spend time staring at it with you, we should go get lunch now. Thomas' endless texting has tired me out, and I'm huungry. " He speaks, his tone light and whiney as always, and for a second, you consider him world's greatest actor.
You decide that what you felt for Rafayel combined with the effort you'd put into this plan was worth the risk of heartbreak, so in a final effort to get him to acknowledge you, you speak up.
"Don't you want to see your trusty choir first? They're right there behind you. I'm sure they've missed their conductor." You're not sure if you manage to keep your tone quite as light and playful as intended, desperation tinging the edges of your words, but you've spoken them, now he HAS to respond.
A pause, anticipation clogs your veins, and you practically feel your blood pressure rising. "...there's a boat ride with a buffet that might be nice today, since the weather is so nice and all."
Your eyebrows raise, the casual tone of his voice so steady that you almost start questioning if you even did bring it up at all. But the quick look he takes at you and the way he turns away tells you he is definitely doing this on purpose.
It was truly rejection then, your stomach twists and a buffet and a boat ride with Rafayel suddenly sound daunting. You could get over rejection, but maybe not within 10 minutes.
"Hmm, that sounds nice but I'm actually starting to feel a little off," you muse on your excuse "I think I might head home a little earlier than planned today, Rafayel, rain check?"
He turns to face you now, slowly. Eyes wide and brows furrowed, expression reminiscent of that time you gave him a single apple when he checked himself into the hospital. A mix between shock, offense, and a silent command to change your mind.
He grabs your wrist and starts pulling you along. His expression changes in a heartbeat, and it's like you never said anything.
"They apparently have like a super long waiting list, but I got in pretty easily. Guess being well known does have its perks after all, huh?" He keeps talking in that same casual tone of his, which is starting to frustrate you to no end.
"Rafayel, I get that a rain check for the boat might not be easy if it's like that, but I really need to go home." You plead, trying to pull yourself out of his grip but he just turns to you, gives you that same expression that you're convinced only Rafayel can make properly, and then keeps going like you never opened your mouth.
You're baffled at his behavior, and by the time you recover, the two of you are making your way onto the boat.
"Now, I'm going to need you to stop looking so surprised, cutie." He reaches out to gently smooth his fingers over the muscles of your brows, which you will admit are a little tense from how you've had them raised the entire way here. "I need you looking as cute as you always do for the pictures we're gonna take here."
It was one thing to completely ignore what was practically a confession, another to blatantly ignore your request to go home, but the audacity to tell you to not be surprised at his antics? That was too far.
He tries to pull you along again, but you hold steady. He shoots you a questioning look. As if you're the one acting out of the ordinary.
"Rafayel, I want to go home," and you're proud of yourself for standing on business, convinced there is no way for him to just ignore that. In your defense, he doesn't.
Instead, he huffs, his gorgeous features taking on that oh so familiar, annoyed expression. His response is a short "no, you don't" before he takes a step closer to you, only to link your arms and pull you along with the new leverage that gives him.
Then, before you know it, you're standing at the front of the boat as it slides through the water. With no way home except a very prolonged dive.
Rafayel entertains you, and the entire situation had been confusing enough to distract you from his blatant rejection, but now that his weird behavior seems to be settling, reality starts creeping in. You're stuck with him now, so you'll have to keep yourself together until you manage to get off this boat. How vexing.
His first cough doesn't shake you out of the deep thoughts you're in and neither does the second so, Rafayel resorts to nudging you with his elbow when a red fish surfaces with a bottle in its mouth.
You look at him, but he pointedly looks away, like he didn't just practically poke your ribs out. When you lean towards the railing, the fish jumps, and the bottle flies towards you.
You're not actually in the mood to catch it, but your hunter instincts kick in, and in the blink of an eye, the intricate glass bottle is in your hands. You can see a note neatly curled up and tied with a bow, resting inside it.
"Wow, cutie, those are some reflexes." Rafayel feigns being impressed and then presses on. "You should open it. You won the bottle's secrets fair and square once you saved its life."
You narrow your eyes at him. This could not possibly have been more obviously set up by him. Though you will say, his sheer determination to have things go his way is admirable.
You comply, already knowing the only other option was to face his huffing and puffing before then having to comply after all.
The cork takes more effort to open than you'd like, and Rafayel smiles fondly at the slight flush that rises on your face in result. Once you unroll the note, though, your eyes widen.
There, in Rafayel's eclectic handwriting are the very words you'd strung up on your seagulls.
A beat passes, and Rafayel looks at you expectantly. A cute expression on his face, and for a second, you are torn between accepting just to keep him looking like that and raining down righteous retribution on him.
You decide you'd do both. "Rafayel, of course I'll be your valentine, but did you really ha-" his lips halt yours before you could complain at all and you feel said complaints melting away.
The kiss is sweet, Rafayel brings you into his arms as he starts to deepen it, you'd always suspected he'd be a needy kisser, but he pulls away before he gets carried away.
"Sorry, cutie. Couldn't have you interfering with my plans though, you have no idea how long I've waited to make this move." His voice sounds breathy, and his eyes don't leave your lips. His words are so sweet you could almost ignore how he's pretending this was your fault. Almost.
Yet, you'll let it slide. Because as he leans in for another kiss, you just can't find it in yourself to be upset with him.
#also i know i said id fix my masterlist after the first thing i post but...#in my defense this one wasnt on the list mentioned!#anyways time for the plethora of tags#love and deepspace#love and deepspace rafayel#love and deepspace fluff#love and deepspace rafayel fluff#lads#lads rafayel#lads rafayel fluff#love and deepspace x reader#love and deepspace rafayel x reader#lads x reader#lads rafayel x reader#rafayel x reader#lads x reader fluff#lads rafayel x reader fluff#love and deepspace rafayel x reader fluff#love and deepspace x reader fluff#okay i think that was every possible way to say that#happy valentines day!!!

heeseung - juno
*Whole package, babe, I like the way you fit, God bless your dad's genetics*
The club was packed, neon lights casting a moody glow over the dance floor. Bodies moved in sync with the deep bass, but Y/N had eyes for only one personâLee Heeseung.
He was leaning against the bar, one hand wrapped around a drink, the other resting casually in his pocket. He looked unfairly good, messy hair falling over sharp eyes, lips slightly parted as he took a slow sip. He wasnât trying to stand out, but that only made him more magnetic.
Y/N smirked, stepping forward. She didnât hesitateâshe never did. Running her fingers lightly across his shoulder as she passed, she turned just enough to catch his attention.
âDance with me.â Not a question. A demand.
Heeseung blinked, momentarily caught off guard, but the corner of his mouth twitched upward in amusement. âBossy, arenât you?â
Y/N just raised an eyebrow. âAre you coming or not?â
He let out a short laugh, shaking his head as he followed her onto the dance floor.
The moment he stepped closer, Y/N turned, pressing herself against him, her hips rolling in a slow, deliberate rhythm. She felt him inhale sharply, his hands hovering for just a second before settling at her waist.
âDamn,â he murmured, voice already lower than before.
She smirked, tilting her head just enough for her lips to brush his jaw. âWhole package, babe,â she whispered, dragging her fingers down his chest. âI like the way you fit.â
Heeseung let out a breath, his grip tightening instinctively. His hands slid lower, fingertips pressing into her hips like he needed something to ground him.
Y/N trailed a hand up, fingertips grazing his jaw before tilting his chin so he was looking straight into her eyes. âGod bless your dadâs genetics,â she teased, lips curving into a knowing smile.
Heeseung swallowed hard, eyes darkening. âYouâre dangerous,â he muttered, almost like a warning.
Y/N laughed, slow and sultry. âYou just figuring that out now?â
Leaning in, she brushed her lips over the shell of his ear. âNow tell me, Heeseung⌠are you taking me home, or do I have to keep making you suffer?â
His jaw clenched, exhaling sharplyâthen, without another word, he grabbed her hand and led her straight out of the club.
Tonight, he was all hers.
rest of the members below the cut!

Jay - please please please
*Don't bring me to tĐľars when I just did my makeup so nice Heartbreak is one thing, my ego's another I beg you, don't embarrass me, motherfucker*
Y/N stood in front of the mirror, tilting her head slightly as she admired her reflection. The blush sat just right on her cheeks, her eyeliner sharp enough to cut through whatever bullshit the night threw at her. If nothing else, she looked flawless. And tonight, that was all that mattered.
The second she stepped into the party, she spotted Jay across the room. Of course. He was always where she didnât need him to be. Laughing with his friends, acting like everything between them hadnât been unraveling for weeks. Acting like she wasnât standing there, looking the best she ever had, for him to notice.
But then, he did notice.
Jay's gaze flickered to her, then down, like he couldnât quite hold it. Like he knew what was coming.
"Y/N," he started, meeting her halfway across the room, voice just low enough for only her to hear. "Can we talk?"
She knew how these talks went. A carefully worded speech, a soft apology that felt more like an excuse. A way to let her down easy, as if she hadn't already braced for the fall.
"Make it quick," she said, arms crossed, voice steady despite the way her chest tightened.
Jay ran a hand through his hair. "I never wanted to hurt you."
That was it. The words that meant everything and nothing all at once.
Y/N exhaled sharply, her perfectly lined eyes stinging, but she refused to let the tears fall. Not now. Not when she'd spent an hour making sure her face told the world she was unbothered. Heartbreak was one thingâshe could deal with that in private. But her pride? Her ego? That was a whole different battle.
She took a step back, chin high. "Jay, I swear, if you make me cry right nowâ" She let out a humorless laugh. "I just did my makeup so nice."
He opened his mouth, but she held up a hand. "Donât. Just⌠donât embarrass me."
And with that, she walked away, head high, heart aching, but not a single tear in sight.
-
Jake - bed chem
*Who's the cute boy with the white jacket and the thick accent?*
The party was alive with golden lights and pulsing bass, the kind that settled under your skin and made everything feel electric. Y/N wasnât even sure why she had comeâmaybe for the distraction, maybe because she was tired of scrolling through her phone in bed, watching everyone else live their lives.
But now, standing near the entrance, drink in hand, she suddenly felt alert. Because of him.
A boy she didnât recognize.
White jacket, dark hair, a presence that stood out even in the crowded loft. He was leaned against the counter, laughing at something someone had said, but it wasnât the laugh that caught herâit was the way he carried himself. Effortless. Like he knew exactly who he was. Like he didnât have to try.
And then he spoke.
Low, smooth, laced with something foreign, something that rolled off his tongue in a way that made her breath hitch.
Y/N nudged her friend, eyes still locked on him. âWhoâs the cute boy with the white jacket and the thick accent?â
Her friend followed her gaze, then let out a knowing grin. âJake. Just moved here a few months ago. Apparently, heâs trouble.â
Trouble.
The word clung to the air between them, stirring something inside her. She should probably walk away now. Find someone less trouble, less interesting. But she didnât. Instead, she tilted her glass against her lips, letting the ice cool her throat, watching him over the rim.
As if sensing the attention, Jake glanced up.
Their eyes met.
And just like that, the whole party faded.
It wasnât an accidentâhe knew exactly what he was doing. His gaze was steady, unreadable at first, then something shifted. A slow smirk, the kind that said, I see you staring. What are you gonna do about it?
Y/N held her ground, her heart picking up pace. She could look away, pretend she hadnât been caught, but where was the fun in that?
So instead, she let her lips curl into a smirk of her own. A challenge. A promise.
And just like that, the night had suddenly become a lot more interesting.
-
Sunghoon - slim pickinsÂ
*a boy whoâs jacked and kind, can't find his ass to save my life*
Y/N sighed, crossing her arms as she stood in the middle of the store parking lot, watching Sunghoon spin in slow circles, utterly lost.
âIt was right here,â he muttered, glancing around, as if the car would magically reappear if he stared hard enough.
Y/N raised an eyebrow. âYou mean where every other car is parked except yours?â
Sunghoon huffed, running a hand through his hair. âI swear, I parked near the entrance.â
Y/N fought back a grin. He was tall, broad-shouldered, the kind of guy who looked like he could carry three grocery bags in each hand without breaking a sweat. Strong, athletic, surprisingly sweet. But apparently, completely incapable of remembering where he parked.
âUnbelievable,â she muttered, shaking her head. âA boy whoâs jacked and kind, but canât find his ass to save his life.â
Sunghoon shot her a playful glare. âThatâs not true.â
âOh, really? Then whereâs the car, genius?â
A beat of silence. He glanced around helplessly.
ââŚI have no idea.â
Y/N burst out laughing. âWeâre gonna be here all night.â
Sunghoon groaned, but even he was smiling now. âYou could help instead of roasting me.â
âOh, but this is way more fun.â
Still chuckling, she pulled out her phone, tapping her screen. âLucky for you, I did think ahead.â She flashed her screen at him, showing the location pin sheâd dropped when they arrived.
Sunghoon blinked, then exhaled in relief. âI take back everything. Youâre actually a genius.â
Y/N smirked. âI know. Now come on, letâs go find your car before I start thinking you actually Ubered here and forgot.â
Laughing, he slung an arm around her shoulders as they finally walked in the right directionâtogether.
-
Sunoo - espresso
*'Now he's thinkin' 'bout me every night, oh Is it that sweet? I guess so Say you can't sleep, baby, I know That's that me espresso'*
Y/N could feel the weight of the text before she even opened it. Sunoo had always been the type to send messages that made her smile even when she didnât want to, but this one was different. The text, simple yet intriguing:
âCanât sleep. I guess youâre on my mind again.â
She smirked, her fingers hovering over her phone. She knew exactly what he was doing. Sunoo had this effortless way of making her feel like she was the only person in his thoughts, even when he was probably busy with a million other things.
She couldnât help it. She typed back, her response teasing yet playful:
âThatâs funny. I guess Iâm your personal espresso now?â
It didnât take long before he replied.
âMore like the best shot of caffeine I could ever have.â
Y/N rolled her eyes but couldnât stop the laugh that escaped her. She shouldâve been asleep too, but she couldnât fight the way Sunoo always seemed to slip under her skin. No one else could make her feel like this, like she was the center of his universe, even in a simple text at 2 a.m.
She leaned back on her bed, staring at the ceiling, thinking about how he always seemed to find a way into her thoughts too.
âSo, you can't sleep?â she sent back, letting her voice drop playfully. âGuess thatâs my fault now, huh?â
It took him a few moments before his response popped up.
âYeah, youâve been running through my mind all night. I donât know whether to blame you or just admit itâs pretty sweet.â
Y/N smiled at her phone, warmth spreading through her chest. She wasnât sure what it was, but there was something about Sunoo's words that made her feel all kinds of special. The way he thought about herâlike she was the shot of espresso in his day.
Maybe she couldnât sleep either, but tonight, that didnât seem to matter.
-
Jungwon -Â donât smile
*Don't smile because it happened, baby Cry because it's over Oh, you're supposed to think about me Every time you hold her*
Y/N hadnât expected it to hurt this much.
She stood on the edge of the park, watching Jungwon laugh with someone else. It wasnât just anyoneâit was her. The girl heâd started seeing just weeks after they called it quits. The girl who wore his favorite color, who could make him smile the way Y/N used to.
She had always told herself she would be okay. That they were better off apart, that maybe time would heal everything. But watching them now, the way his eyes lit up when she spoke, made something inside her twist.
They didnât see her, too wrapped up in their own world.
Y/N swallowed, forcing herself to turn away, but the words, those lyrics, rang in her head as she walked away:
âDonât smile because it happened, baby. Cry because itâs over.â
She hated how right they felt. How she could still feel every moment with Jungwonâthe late-night talks, the laughter, the way his hand would find hers in a crowd. And now, it felt like those memories were slowly being buried beneath the weight of her own sadness.
But what hurt even more was the thought of him holding her and forgetting about the way it used to be with them.
âYouâre supposed to think about me every time you hold her,â she whispered to herself, voice barely audible in the cool evening air.
Jungwon had always been the one to remember the little things. The way she liked her coffee, the exact way she laughed when she was nervous. And now... he had someone else to remember all those details for.
Y/N took a shaky breath, wiping away the tear that threatened to fall. It was over. But the hurt? That would take longer to fade.
-
Ni-ki - bad reviews
*Been alone for so long, I've got somethin' to prove If I close an eye, it's almost like your red flags are blue So still I choose to be in love with you*
Y/N sat on the edge of her bed, scrolling through her phone, her mind wandering. It had been so long since she let herself feel this wayâthis tangled mess of emotions she couldnât make sense of.
Ni-ki had always been there, in his own way. Quiet, serious, but with moments of warmth that made her heart skip. But lately, it felt like there were more cracks in their relationship than ever before. Red flags she couldnât ignoreâlate-night texts that didnât feel like his usual self, the way he would pull back when she got too close.
It wasnât like she didnât see it. She did. She saw the warning signs, the places where it wasnât all perfect, the way his words sometimes didnât match his actions.
But then there were moments like tonight.
Ni-ki had shown up unannounced at her door, a rare smile on his face, and everything seemed right again. She hadnât even realized how much she missed him until she saw him standing there, looking at her with those soft, dark eyes. And for a moment, all the doubtsâevery little red flagâseemed to fade into the background.
She closed her eyes and thought of him.
âIf I close an eye, itâs almost like your red flags are blue,â she murmured to herself. It sounded silly, but it was true. Every time she convinced herself she shouldnât care, that maybe she was wasting her time, heâd show up with one smile, one word, and it was enough to make her forget all the signs.
She loved him. And no matter how much her heart tried to warn her otherwise, she kept choosing him.
Y/N picked up her phone and typed a message.
âI choose you, even if itâs crazy.â
She hit send, her heart racing. Would he reply? Would he understand?
Seconds later, the text bubble appeared.
âI choose you too. Always.â
And for tonight, that was all that mattered.

my lovely lovely san happy valentine's day !! thank you for the request ily so much <3
â do you wanna know a secret ?
remus lupin x reader âĽď¸ 845 words
The air in the common room was thick with the excitement of Valentineâs Day. Some students were exchanging notes, others were planning for the dance that night, and a few were simply enjoying the sugary sweets scattered across the tables. You, however, found yourself hiding in a corner with your textbook, trying to focus on your charms homework. It wasnât that you disliked the holidayâit just felt like a reminder of what you didnât have: someone to share it with.
Of course, there was someone you'd like to spend it with. Remus, your best friend who always seemed to know exactly what you needed, whether it was a laugh, a kind word, or just a quiet moment together.
As if summoned by your thoughts, Remus appeared in the doorway of the common room, his messy hair falling over his eyes, his hands stuffed in the pockets of his cardigan. He caught sight of you almost immediately, and that familiar, warm smile spread across his face. It was the kind of smile that made your heart beat a little faster, but you pushed the feeling away. He was your best friend, and thatâs all he could ever be, right?
âHey,â he said, his voice soft. âWhat are you doing all the way over here?â
You looked up from your book and tried to smile. âJust, uh, trying to get some work done. You know, not everyone is celebrating Valentineâs Day with a dance or chocolates. Iâm just not in the mood for all the⌠fuss.â
Remus nodded, his expression turning thoughtful. âI get it. The whole day just feels like a lot of pressure, doesnât it?â He sat down next to you, shifting a few of your books to the side. âBut, you know⌠if you want, we could just skip all that and hang out. Maybe take a walk around the lake, orââ
You blinked in surprise, cutting him off. âWait, Sirius isnt forcing you into another double date?"
Remus chuckled softly, shaking his head. âI wasn't really interested in her, it wouldn't have been fun for either of us."
Your heart skipped a beat, and you suddenly felt self-conscious. âOh,â you said, awkwardly fiddling with a pencil. âWell, you don't have to just sit here with me. I mean, you could always ask someone elseâŚâ
âC'mon,â He scoffed, leaning back in his chair. âlike I need an excuse to spend time with you. Besides, I donât need anyone else.â His voice softened at the last part, and his eyes lingered on yours just a moment longer than usual.
For a brief moment, the world felt very still. There was something in the way he said it, something in the way he was looking at you, that made your chest tighten. Youâd always known Remus as your closest friend, the person who could make you laugh without even trying, the person who always seemed to understand you in ways no one else could. But hearing those words took you by surprise.
You cleared your throat, trying to keep your voice steady. âYeah,â you said softly. âA walk sounds nice.â
The two of you left the common room, walking through the nearly empty corridors. The castle seemed quieter than usual, many couples having gone to Hogsmeade to celebrate the holiday. As you reached the entrance hall, Remus turned toward you, his face more serious now, as though he were gathering the courage to say something.
âIâve been thinking,â he started, his voice hesitant. âMaybe I haven't been as obvious as I thought, but.. I care about you, more than I probably let on. And I guess Iâve been wondering if you.. feel the same?â
Your heart raced at his words, the question hanging in the air between you. It was all so sudden, but somehow, it felt like the most natural thing in the world.
You looked up at him, feeling the warmth of the moment in your chest. âRemus,â you said softly, âIâve always cared about you. Youâre my best friend.â
There was a pause, and then, almost as if he couldnât help himself, Remus reached out, gently taking your hand in his. His touch was warm, and you could feel the weight of everything unsaid between you.
âI think I want to be more than that,â he murmured, his thumb lightly brushing over your knuckles.
You felt your breath catch. For a long moment, you just stood there, looking at him, trying to reconcile the feelings that had been simmering beneath the surface for so long. And then, with a soft laugh, you squeezed his hand.
âI think I want that too,â you said quietly.
Remus smiled, a mixture of relief and happiness in his expression. And just as the first snowflake of the evening drifted down from the sky, he leaned in, brushing his lips against your forehead in a tender, quiet kissâan unspoken promise.
âHappy Valentineâs Day,â he whispered, his breath warm against your skin.
You smiled back, feeling more content than you had in a long time. âHappy Valentineâs Day, Remus.â
