Frey’s fic recs list!
I realised there’s a dry spell happening in my fic reccommendations tag (”can i interest you in this masterpiece”, perhaps with a question mark at the end idk anymore), and we’re off season, so appreciating the writers creating content now is very important, so here’s a very incomplete list of season 12 (with a smidge of CDR) fics I’m obsessed with.
It’s absolutely not all the fics I would happily rant about to everyone who listened - it’s very on top of my head - but almost all authors I mentioned have more RPDR works, so check that out and browse the tags of ships you’re interested in (that’s how I found a big part of those gems). Oh, and comment, even if it’s just keysmash or screaming. It means the world, trust me on that.
“we didn’t start the fire” by @pink-grapefruit-cafe - lesbian AU, multichap, in progress (Jankie, Ninex, Trixya + I’m hoping for Kamasia)
When I think of this story, I start smiling and bounce with excitement, because it’s just that freaking fantastic. I’m still in awe with how well Charl is executing this concept, and I stopped expecting anything less than splendind from her even before I got to know her. How does she know so much about firefighters? I’m guessing a lot of detailed research came into outlining this story and I have the most respect for that. But the plot! Okay, so it’s a firefighter AU. I can’t tell you too much not to spoil anything important, but it starts with a bang to your own head, and then it doesn’t slow down. We get to explore characters one by one, but through the lense of relationships and dynamic, and it’s done in such a smart way. I promise you’ll be hooked one paragraph in, and by the end of the first chapter- you’ll be addicted.
“A Goode Idea“ by @goodemornting - lesbian AU, one shot (Crygi)
I had and incredible pleasure of betaing it, but I’m not biased at all what I say this fic is hilarious. It’s fantastically written and had me surprised at every turn. I had the most fun reading it each time. The idea is, well, absurd. Like, literally. Crystal gets her hand stuck in a vending machine on her way to a blind date. But our girl is not a quitter, oh no, but the machine is runway commentary on Drag Race and Crystal’s hand is jokes about Michelle’s breasts. Just... can’t let it go. Thankfully, there comes salvation in a form of Gigi Goode, who’s been stood up on a blind date. Are you, like, connecting the dots here? Because they’re not. At all. This fic is prime entertainment, give it a read.
“I Remember“ by @imposterzoe - one shot (Jiji)
MY HEART WAS RIPPED OUT, SET ON FIRE, AND STEPPED ON, BUT NOT IN ATTEMPT TO PUT OUT THE FLAME. I thought about this fic and, jesus, it still hurts. It’s a great angst, truly a great one. It’s all loneliness and heartbreak and yearning that makes the lungs burn. “dear god he needed a hug. But the one person he would accept it from was in another man's arms, on the other side of the country.” - I can’t get this line out of my head and I don’t regret it - it’s a very good one, but it just hurts a lot. Incredible, incredible work.
One Direction (to your heart) by @opalescent-cheetah - lesbian AU, multichap, in progress (Jaida/Crystal)
Back to the fun stuff! IT’S A SOULMATES AU. I’M WEAK FOR SOULMATES AUs. And you might not understand my love for that trope (it’s legit my favourite one ever), but you will understand my love for that story as soon as you start it. It’s a fun spin on the soulmate tottoos trope - you’re not born with it, but once you get your first tattoo, it’s mirrored on your soulmate’s skin. And Jaida really doesn’t get the appeal of having the universe decide for you about who you’re going to love - she prefers to make that decision for herself, so when arabic letters spelling “One Direction” appear on her chest, it’s less than ideal. But she doesn’t think too much about it. That, or the fact her new coworker insists of blasting 1D songs all day long. She might not enjoy Crystal’s taste in music, but she sure enjoys her company. A lot. A whole lot.
I almost forgot to mention it, but the fact each chapter has a seperate illustration drawn for it? And they’re all so pretty? Wonderful.
Signed, Sealed, Delivered by @missjanjie - lesbian AU, multichap, in progress (Sportsdoll, Crygi)
I promised myself one rec for one author and with Joley it was the most difficult to stick to that rule (and we’ve had Charlotte on this list, and I’m whipped with everything she writes, so visualise the struggle here). But I chose this one, because it’s just!!! so good!!! Jan is a simple collage student with typical collage student problems. You know, exams, boring readings, pining for your French pen pal, morning lectures, handing in assignments on time. Crystal is her roommate, and has typical roommate problems: sharing chores, remembering which sweets are whose, and telling your secret crush you have to pretend to be in love, because your roommate decided to invite her French pen pal to your wedding, so now you have to stage everything. That’s a normal Tuesday evening for them. And an awesome story for you to follow.
“small wonder“ by wildewoman_22 - lesbian AU, one shot (Jankie)
This list is supposed to be fics that live rent-free in my head, so this one should have been put as the first one. It made me sob. It’s so unimaginably beautiful (I’m already getting tears in my eyes and I’m not even talking about the plot, oh my god). Jackie and Jan decide to have a baby, and it’s the most raw, magnificent, but also heartwarming portrayal of pregnancy and different ways to understand motherhood I’ve read. So absolutely beautiful and filled with love. Just, a masterpiece. So mindblowing.
“Some Things Are Bound To Be” by @dollalpaca - lesbian AU, multichap, in progress (Kyara)
In Polish we have that saying, “to approach something like dog would a hedgehog”, and to say that was me with that fic is like not saying anything. I love Zyanny and I’m always going to be proud of the things she creates - be it a fic, a moodboard, or a bullet journal - but I didn’t really watch CDR, and the bit I have seen didn’t convince me. So it took me a while to get to that fic. But when I did. Jesus, the only advantage of catching up on it late was the fact I didn’t have to wait for updates, because it’s so good I’d go crazy, like I am now. Kyne is an accountant in a big company, all she wants is to do her job and mind her own business. Really. Give her her papers and peace. That’s all she’s asking for. So of course she’ll get something else - a rumour she’s dating the daughter of the company’s boss. But Kiara is hot and nice and seeing her laugh makes Kyne’s heart do stupid things, so what the hell. One thing she doesn’t know is Kiara’s past, and that might complicate a few things. I don’t know Kiara’s past either and Zyan won’t tell me and I’m going crazy here. Come join me in my misery - the way her characters are written makes it all worth it.
“countless chances” by @essenceofhall - lesbian AU, one shot (Crygi)
IT’S A HARLEY QUINN/POISON IVY AU, PEOPLE. And it’s blowing my mind. The characterisation in that fic is immaculate - it’s like original personalities of Ivy and Harley were mixed with something very, very original, and it’s owned - done so surely and with so much craftmanship - they feel organic as Crystal and Gigi. This fic is the best way of creating an AU based on existing characters I’ve read, and with a lot of certainty I can say that it will remain as the best one. It’s pure brilliance. I am blown away. Impressed beyond the point of expression.
“Blue Neighborhood” by @imalwaysaslutfordrag - lesbian AU, a series of astounding one shots, in progress
I won’t write too much about this, because I probably could whip out a separate post about BN and it would be just as long. It’s one of the best stories I’ve read in my entire life, and I don’t mean just fics, I mean all literature. Every aspect I could talk about is entrancing. Phenomenal work that deserves all the praise.
#that got... long#whoops#don't regret a thing#besides not addin 50000 works more into that#can i interest you in this masterpiece?#so there is a question mark after all#support your writers please <3#frey rambles

Death and Taxes
My Writing Fandom: Doctor Who Characters: Eleventh Doctor, River Song, Clara Oswald, Kate Stewart Pairing: Eleventh Doctor/River Song Summary: River wants a house now that she's out of prison, and the Doctor must embark on the dreaded task of personal finance. / Canon Compliant *Can be read on my AO3 or FFN, links are in bio*
He took Professor Song to see the premiere of the Galactic Federation Symphony. The musicians consisted of Draconians, Alpha Centaurians, and humans, with an Ice Warrior serving as conductor. It was a pleasant evening, music and champagne — the latter of which he did not partake in, content to watch his wife sip at her flute with a smile curving her lips. Much better than the first time they’d met after Manhattan. Even so, they carefully danced around the subject of his travels or companions. It hardly mattered; Clara was home with the children again, so he may as well have been alone.
“So then, back to the Luna University? Or perhaps dancing under the Karaveen Nebula? The night is still young,” the Doctor remarked as he led them arm in arm back through the TARDIS doors.
“Actually, Doctor, I’ve got a matter of business to discuss with you,” River countered in a way that surprisingly enough did not at all sound like an innuendo, and he was getting rather good at picking those up from her.
“Oh?”
She slipped her hand into his, and they walked past the console, up into the corridor and through a door which today led into his study. He perched himself on the corner of his desk, arms folded and legs crossed at the ankle.
“Well, Professor Song, what can I do for you?”
She smirked. “I was hoping you'd ask.” Then she pulled out a stack of paper and files far too large to have fit in an ordinary clutch and set them down just to the right of him with a very heavy thud.
The Doctor blinked. “What’s this?”
“It's what I need you to do for me,” she answered. “I’m buying a house near the university, and there's a lot that needs filled out as far as mortgage payments and property taxes are concerned. Not to mention the loan I’ve got to take from the bank. You’ll have to co-sign on that, by the way.”
The Doctor, whose lip had been curling in distaste with every word she spoke, looked at her with wide eyes. “Co-sign?”
River gave a well-worn sigh. “Yes, Sweetie. I get a better deal if someone does, and you being my husband makes you the ideal candidate. Joint filing.”
“Taxes?” He echoed numbly, thumbing through the stack once. There were all sorts of official looking titles and tiny boxes and very fine print he would most certainly need Amy's glasses for. The Doctor shook his head. “No. No, I haven’t done taxes in — well, er, come to think of it I’m not sure I’ve ever done them. I won’t start now.”
“And what am I supposed to do then? Sleep in my office?”
“Well, no,” he acknowledged. “Couldn't you just — I mean it's not like you haven't before — couldn't you, ah, find some money somewhere?”
“Oh yes, that’ll go over lovely. Paying off my mortgage with undisclosed income. Then they can arrest me again for tax evasion — that’ll be twenty life sentences at least.” Her unimpressed look morphed into something a little more earnest, a little more beseeching. “I’m only trying to get a life after prison started, Doctor.”
Oh. Well, that just wasn’t fair. There really was no faulting her, was there? After all she'd done for him in saving his life, River Song was just asking for a little aid in getting the next chapter of hers going. The last chapter, of which he could never tell her even as it drew ever nearer.
The Doctor stared. River stared back, one perfectly sculpted eyebrow arched imperiously.
“So, you’ll bring it round the next time you stop by? Lovely.” Without another word, much less waiting for his response, she turned and swept from the room.
“River. River!”
When after a moment she did not return, the Doctor was forced to half-run to catch her up in the console room, where she was already working the controls.
“River, I am homeless. Stateless. Planetless, even! My estate consists of a Type 40 Time Capsule, and it's stolen property.”
“You think my credit’s much better, honey? I'm an ex-con.” She glanced back at him, curls falling in a wave down her shoulder. It was quite the look. “Seeing as we both know how that happened I shouldn't think it’d be that unreasonable of a request.”
The Doctor’s mouth fell open, but nothing came immediately to mind.
River smirked. “I didn’t think so.” The time rotor pulsed once more, then quieted, about the only indication they’d landed whenever his wife was the one driving. Then she continued down the ramp to the doors.
“You could always stay.” The words were out of his mouth before he could stop them, and yet hopeless as he knew it was he carried on. “Keep a vortex manipulator onboard, pop over to the University whenever you felt like teaching, then back here. You’re welcome here.”
You’re wanted here, was what he wished to say.
River had paused in front of the doors, and when she turned around this time she looked pained. “Thank you, Sweetie. But we both know that isn't what we are.”
How could they know without ever having tried it? That, at least, he managed to reign in. She already thought him enough of a sentimental old fool, after all.
“I’ll have to have a look around the place sometime,” he came up with instead. “Seeing as it’ll be half mine.”
“Oh honey, that's a promise,” River replied with a wink, and he dredged up a smile just for her. Then she was out the doors and out of his life once again. The Doctor bowed his head briefly, then reached for the dematerialization lever to head back into the Vortex.
Returning to his desk, the Doctor eyed up the stack that waited for him. To his view, it appeared to tower over everything else, particularly once he’d taken his seat. His Everest. He blew out a breath and took out her mother’s glasses. “Right then. Taxes.” The Doctor shrugged. “How hard can they be, really?”
—-
Taxes, as it turned out, could be very hard.
The forms were printed as tiny as he’d suspected and were twice as tricky. To fill one out, he needed to know something called a credit score. The Doctor did not know what a credit score was, and when he asked Clara her eyes went the biggest he’d ever seen them.
“Why do you want to know something like that?”
“Idle curiosity.”
Clara snorted and turned away. He never actually got an answer.
There was a helpline number in incredibly small print at the bottom of the phone. The Doctor liked helplines. A helpline had directed his new friend into his life. Or back into it. He still didn’t know exactly how he had met Clara twice before without her remembering it.
Nevertheless, the Doctor called the number. There was a funny automated voice someone had tried to make sound like a human but seemingly gave up halfway through, and it listed off a whole lot of options and numbers to press accordingly. The Doctor waited until the end of the list, where it told him that if he stayed on the line a real person might actually talk to him. That was much better.
He was tapping his toes along with a very mellow xylophone playing a repetitive verse for several minutes before the music abruptly cut off.
“This is Keisha with Lunar Revenue, how may I help you this morning?”
The Doctor jumped and nearly fumbled the phone. “Keisha! Ha! Yes, you can help me. I need to know what a credit score is.”
“What a credit score is or what your credit score is, sir?”
“Both, preferably.”
There was a pause.
“Uh, well, a credit score is a number a person’s given based on their financial history, and depends on factors like bill payments or outstanding loans,” she explained slowly, as though waiting for him to stop and assure her he understood at any moment. “And to get your credit score, I’m going to need some information from you, sir. Can I have your name?”
“The Doctor,” he readily supplied.
“Alright, and first and last name, sir?”
“No, no,” he said, waving a hand cheerily though it presumably made no difference to her. “Just the Doctor.”
“I’m afraid that’s not a name, sir.”
“Well, of course it isn’t just a name. It’s my name. It’d be silly if you had multiple people running around calling themselves the Doctor — there’s already enough of me doing that.”
There was another long pause. “Well, sir, I will try to find your information in our system, but it might take some time.”
“How much?”
“If you could please hold.”
“Er, yes? Hold what?” He pulled the phone back to look at the receiver. “Keisha? Hello?”
Keisha’s voice had been replaced by the xylophone. And maybe some strings.
“Keisha,” the Doctor grumbled under his breath. He sighed and set the phone down on its side, where he could still make out the music. The Doctor paced around a bit on the main platform, then up on the second level. He went down below to do some maintenance, then came back up.
The music was still playing. He hated waiting.
“Right, okay. Time to jump the line.”
The Doctor hung up the phone. A short trip through the Vortex later and he was striding out into a very tiny cubicle in which was sat a very startled woman with very nice, intricate braids woven into her hair.
“Keisha, right?” The Doctor checked. “I was on the phone with you an hour and a half ago. The Doctor, remember?”
“How did you—”
“I was in the neighborhood. Listen, the way I see it, the faster we get this all sorted out is the less time we have to spend on it, right? So let’s sort it out.” He dropped the files on her desk and gestured at them. “That’s everything I’ve got so far, but I can’t get anywhere without the credit score.”
“This is to co-sign for a house?” She asked after briefly skimming the top form. She was either very clever or just very literate. Possibly both.
“Yes, my wife wants one. It seems very tedious, but her 150th is coming up, so.” He shrugged.
“Right…” She rolled her shoulders and opened up a new window on her computer, which was a flat screen embedded into the cubicle wall. “This is your first time filing with us?”
“Yes.”
“Then we’ll need to open an account. Let me see what I can find in terms of identification.”
After some tapping on the screen interspersed with checking some of the things he had written down, she turned back around in her chair.
“We have on file here that you’re dead.”
“Ah. Yes. Well, that would be spoilers for me. See, I clearly haven’t died yet.” The Doctor splayed his arms wide in demonstration. It wasn’t as though he could tell her that what they had on record was his fake death. That just wouldn’t do.
“I’m not sure what you mean,” said Keisha.
“Neither am I, most days. But since I am not dead, could I have the information I need to fill out the paperwork for my wife?”
“I’m afraid not, sir. Even if I ignore the claim that you’re dead, you don’t seem to have a record of any credit.”
He rocked back on his heels, hands planted at his waist. “Well, how exactly do you go about getting one?”
“Making purchases and paying them back,” She answered blandly. “Loans. That sort of thing.”
“That’s what people do?”
“Yes. Usually with money they make at their jobs, sir.”
Well, there was a thought. “I’ve had one of those! Maybe they can get me a credit score.”
“Maybe, sir.”
“Alright, then, I’ll be back in a mo’,” he told her, seizing the stack of papers River had given him once more, though he staggered under the additional weight as Keisha through another heavy-looking file. “What’s this, then?”
“Life insurance policy. You may want to take one out before you are dead, sir.”
The Doctor considered, then shook his head. “I’ll be dead before I’d have sorted it out, I expect.” At least he hoped.
Just a quick trip, and then he might soon have all this bureaucratic nonsense out of his life. If the Time Lords could see him now.
The things one did for love.

Kate Stewart had been enjoying a cuppa at her desk until the peace and quiet was shattered by the sound of a wheezing engine, and the papers in front of her were scattered in a sudden strong wind.
She looked up to find the TARDIS materializing right in her office doorway.
“Kate!” The Doctor came bounding out the doors in a purple coat and vest this time, though the bowtie, it seemed, was a constant. She mentally made a note to add that to the file.
“Doctor, this is a surprise. Are we under attack?”
“Not at all, just looking for a bit of assistance.”
Kate raised an eyebrow. “With?”
“Taxes,” he answered plainly. Kate nearly fell out of her chair. “River’s eyeing up a house near the Luna University, and there’s a whole thing about payments and whatnot that she’s asked me to sign on for with her, but I haven’t got much in the way of financial history.”
Kate scrambled for a pen and a notepad to start writing this down. At the top of the page, she labeled River? with a large circle surrounding the name.
“See, as of now I have absolutely horrible credit because there’s very little way for me to establish a record of buying and paying for things,” he continued on. “But then I thought, you know who has records? UNIT has records! Loads of records. Records by the bucketful! Surely if anyone has a record of me holding a steady position where I incurred expenses and compensated them, it’ll be UNIT.” The Doctor paused and looked at her. “So would you happen to have something like that?”
“Er, yes, I imagine.” Kate placed a call down to their records keeper, then asked for a pot of tea to be put on while they waited. Her own cup, she requested to be made particularly strong.
“So, you’re buying a house?” She asked to make conversation.
“River’s buying the house,” he corrected her.
“Still, not very like you.” He had lived on Earth for years while working full-time with UNIT and had, by all accounts, slept in the TARDIS parked in his lab.
“Yes, well, River has a habit of making me do things not very like me,” he said, in a tone that was as exasperated as it was fond. He perked up as their records keeper entered with a very old cardboard box. “There we go. Excellent! Give the man a raise.”
“You won’t be getting a raise, Jeremy,” she informed the records keeper matter-of-factly. He nodded and left the room.
The Doctor had popped the lid of the box and was thumbing through the papers. “Credit, credit… not actually sure where I’m meant to find it. Ah well, Keisha will know.” He replaced the lid and hauled the whole box into his arms. “Thanks very much, Kate.”
“Actually, Doctor, since we’re on the subject and if my recollection serves me, we don’t seem to have an accurate date on when you held the lab position with us. Would you be able to—”
The Time Lord was already walking back into his box, and he waved a hand over his shoulder. “Oh, just pick one.”
Kate’s sigh was covered by the departing TARDIS engines.

Clara entered the TARDIS Wednesday morning with a skip in her step. “Mine turn to pick, isn’t it?”
“Yes,” Chin Boy agreed, stepping away from the controls as though ceding them to her. She wasn’t actually going to fly this thing, mind. No matter what he’d said about the old cow starting to warm up to her. “Where to?”
“I’m glad you asked.” Clara lifted her old book out of her satchel and hugged it to her chest for a moment. Then, just as she’d opened the cover, the phone rang outside.
“That’s odd.” She knew she’d called him on it, before, but just how many people knew that number anyway? Apart from that woman in the shop, she supposed.
“Ah, hold the thought, Clara,” he said, hurrying around her with a slide of the heels and leaving the ship. “Hello? It has? Approved? Keisha, I could kiss you!”
“Not a snog box, my arse,” Clara muttered under her breath. She hurried to the doorway and leaned out. “Oi, mind not shouting for the whole street to hear?” Artie and Angie were getting curious enough about where she always went on her days off, especially since the latter claimed Clara never used to go anywhere at all.
The Doctor put his hand over the bottom of the phone. “Sorry,” he said, not sounding sorry in the least. “Just got some very good news for one Professor Song.”
Clara raised her eyebrows. “Friend of yours?”
He nodded distractedly, then half-turned away as he continued to speak into the phone. “Yes. Yes, I can stop by. I’ll take the papers over myself to have them signed. You’ve been a saint, Keisha, you’ll do great things. I’m sure of it. Keep working wonders. Yes, bye-bye.”
He hung up the phone and dropped back against the doors with relief as though he’d just completed a marathon.
“You okay?” She asked wryly.
He popped right back up. “Okay? I’m more than okay on this day of days.”
“Right, this day where we’re apparently going to fill paperwork with professors?”
The Doctor paused. “Er, no. I’ll take care of that. Alone.” He tugged at his ear, looking uncomfortable with twitching limbs.
“Something the matter?”
“What? No, nothing. Just, best for me to pay a private visit.” He nodded to himself. “Yeah.”
Perhaps Professor Song didn’t like unfamiliar visitors. Clara pictured a stuffy, studious bloke surrounded by bookshelves and nodded to herself.
“Well then, I suppose I will pick after all. Any further expected interruptions?” She asked, fixing him with a mock arch look.
“None whatsoever.” He gestured back inside of the box. “Lead on, Clara.”
The leader, was she? She quite liked the sound of that.
—-
River did not like being led places. “Where are we going?”
“You’ll see,” was all he said, his breath tickling her ear while his hands rested over her eyes. Oh, he was infuriating sometimes.
“You know I can get out of this any time I like.”
“Yes. And you can get out… now!” He pulled his hands back, and River stood blinking at a front door.
Not just any front door. Her front door. The one she wanted.
“You just fancied a look, then?” He hadn’t brought up the favor she’d asked of him, though she knew by their diaries that he had been asked, and River hadn’t brought it up either. She didn’t want to be too pushy, or else he’d get his back up. It was his way.
“Nope,” he told her, then withdrew a pen and a form from his vest pocket. “Sign here, please.”
His signature was already affixed under where she was meant to. “Is this…?”
“It’s yours. Already is, actually, I’ve jumped us ahead a few days after I’ve filed the papers, which I’ll do after you sign them. You are the proud owner of four walls, a door and the dimensionally-proportional space contained therein.”
River numbly took the pen and paper and signed her name. It hardly seemed real. It felt like a dream.
She’d never had a home of her own. There was the TARDIS, of course, but no one owned her. Her mother’s childhood home had been Amy’s house and same as her dad’s. Her parent’s place — well, there had been a guest room she’d used now and then. So had other people. They all knew she didn’t live there with them.
But this… this was a space for her to be and to do with as she pleased. She could put things up on the walls or in a drawer without worrying about them being monitored by the Silence or taken during a cell inspection or missing the next time she met up with a younger version of her husband.
“Why anyone would want to be is beyond me, of course,” he was saying now with an exaggerated sniff. He was putting on a show to hide how secretly pleased he was as she gazed on him in wonder.
A part of her had thought he’d never do it.
“You have the keys?” A second later, they were dangling in front of her face, and River snatched them out of the air. She hurried to throw open the door and entered. A sitting room, kitchen, table with chairs. A hallway leading back towards a bed and bath. Tiny and utterly mundane and beautiful.
“You don’t have to go and file those right away, do you?” She asked, reaching back blindly for his hand. He grasped hers loosely in his, twining their fingers.
“No, not right away. Why, have a celebration in mind? We could watch telly, pick out new paint colors…”
River looked back at him with a smirk. “I was thinking we could break in the rooms, honey.”
It was her husband who smirked right back at her. “Now you’re talking.” He kicked the door shut with a ridiculous flail of one leg and was in her arms the next breath.
“Home, Sweetie, Home,” River whispered against his lips.
—-
The Doctor waved goodbye to Clara as she exited the TARDIS once more. They’d had an interesting time of things in the Sombrero Galaxy which, disappointingly, had not included sombreros. But they’d made it back in one piece; frankly, he counted it a mark of success each time Clara came back in one piece. He wasn’t sure whether the third time really was the charm in her case or not, but he was very sure he couldn’t lose her the same way he had lost the other two Claras. Not when he’d already lost so much.
Before he could take off again, there was a flash of light that caused him to duck down under the console for a moment before realizing it wasn’t coming at him. Instead, it hovered across the room, slowly taking shape.
Ah, a delivery. He occasionally received deliveries — perhaps that fez he’d ordered was finally here — but when the light faded, it was not a mechanized courier who stood there, but a letter that dropped to the floor.
The Doctor hurried round to that side of the console and picked it up. It was labeled with the logo of Lunar Revenue. He pinched the bridge of his nose and opened the envelope, bracing himself for what new form or inquiry he needed to fill.
Inside was a single sheet of paper. It read:
Dear The Doctor,
Lunar Services was notified June 7th of the passing of Professor R. Song, the borrower of an outstanding loan on a residence. He didn’t read the number, for the letter slipped from his fingertips and fluttered to the floor. His hand went to his lips. He had known, yes, that this day was coming, but he hadn’t thought- he’d never expected—
He’d never realized he would be notified of his own wife’s death with such an afterthought.
Anger flaring up within him, he kicked at the letter. It skidded across the floor and stopped, the outline of the tread of his boots printed over one corner. The envelope went next in the opposite direction. It looked rather pitiful and useless, which matched his mood.
He sunk down on the steps and didn’t hear the door opening again. But he heard Clara’s voice. “Everything alright? You haven’t gone yet.”
The Doctor leapt up as if scalded, spinning on his toes as his face contorted in an effort to force the water welling up in his eyes back down. Clara was bending down towards the letter from Lunar Services.
“Don’t touch that!”
She jumped back as he tore it from her grasp, pressing it to his chest. “No need to get tetchy,” she snapped, though she seemed taken aback when their eyes met. “Chin Boy?”
Clara reached towards him, but he stepped back, turning to brace a hand on the control panel as he tucked the letter away.
“Sorry. Just some… private correspondence,” he muttered to the buttons and levers.
“Was it from Professor Song?”
His head bowed, bracing himself.
“I only saw the name, I didn’t read anything else,” Clara hurried to say.
A breath released. She hadn’t seen. He didn’t have to talk about this, this thing he had never talked about ever. “yes, it was from Professor Song,” he lied, and the lie came easy.
“Okay. Well… I guess I’ll leave you to answer it.” She said, and he could hear her drift one foot back towards the door.
“Thank you, Clara,” he said, and he looked once at her over his shoulder. “See ya Wednesday.”
“See ya,” she echoed, the barest of smiles gracing her lips, a mark that he’d at least done a little to reassure her. When the door closed a second time, he immediately pulled the lever to dematerialize. He couldn’t afford to stick around again by mistake.
Once safely alone, the Doctor took out the letter again, eyes scanning over the words. If you would like to continue paying the remaining balance and retain the property… Retain the property?
It had been River’s house, not his. River would be in every room. Her things and the scent of her perfume and the sound of her laugh — just thinking of it was enough to fill his lungs and head so much that he could hardly breathe, could hardly think.
If you wish to have the property taken as collateral to settle the debt, no further action need be taken. Please be advised that this may harm your credit score, the letter said, and that felt better. No action could be taken. There was nothing he could do, nothing he could change.
The Doctor marched back to his study and opened a drawer. He placed the letter inside as far back as it would fit, then shut it. He knew already that he would never open it again nor speak to anyone from Lunar Services, tax evasion and bad credit be damned.
He’d never wanted the score or the house. He just wanted her. Now he would have none.

How To Make The Best Homemade Lugaw
Lugaw is a traditional Filipino dish that's very similar to rice porridge. It's nice to eat during the cold and rainy months in the morning, and also feels good to eat after a night out with friends drinking. Recently I've been trying out how to make lugaw on my own, and I think I figured out a way to make this great dish even better.
Most Filipinos know lugaw normally peddled on bikes along streets by the neighborhood food vendor or carinderias. A bowl of lugaw would usually be around 10-15 pesos for the regular ones, while those with add-ons like ox tripe (AKA twalya), pig intestines (isaw), or pig heart (puso) cost a bit more but make eating the plain dish feel a little bit more special. Most would also serve their lugaw with condiments and here is how each person could personaliaze their lugaw to their own liking. Most vendors would also offer calamansi, fried garlic, soy sauce, fish sauce, vinegar, hot sauce, chili oil and spring onions for free and people can just mix it with their lugaw and be happy campers.
There's also some variations of the local rice porridge. I consider them to just variations of one dish. In general, yellow 'lugaw' is contains pork and pig organs, 'arroz caldo' has pieces of pulled chicken meat, while the white 'goto' comes with beef.
Today my recipe will be focusing on lugaw. I choose lugaw over the other two since pork is very fatty and will produce the tastiest rice porridge.
The first step would be to prepare ingredients and tools that we will need:
Deep cooking pot or casserole
Blender
Glutinous/sticky rice, 250g
2.5L water
One medium white onion, chopped
One medium carrot, diced
One stalk of celery or celery powder, 1 tsp
4 cloves of garlic, crushed and roughly chopped
Small nub of peeled ginger, sliced
Pork lomo/kasim, skin removed
2 chicken buillons
Fish sauce, 2tbsp
Okay, so you might be wondering why there's carrots, celery and onions in my recipe. It's definitely not traditional. Some would just use turmeric or atsuete seeds for coloring. We would be using the vegetables in this case to provide both color and flavor to our final dish. Trust me that this will be the best lugaw you've ever made yourself.
First off, put a little bit of oil in the bottom of a cooking pot, put it on medium heat, and add the pork. We want the pork to brown on all sides and sweat, releasing its own fat to become flavor for the rest of the ingredients. It should take around 4-5 minutes. Remove the pork once it's browned and the fat is slightly translucent, meaning its already cooked to the inside.
(NOTE: Although most street vendors would cook their organs with the lugaw, I would not do that if I would be claiming to make the best homemade lugaw. If not cleaned properly, the earthiness of the organs will make its way into the dish and may make some people think they're eating unclean food. I don't like that, that's why we're cooking our meat separately. Also, if you would instead prefer to have the skin on the pork, that would be fine. It's just that it usually takes a lot more time and oil to cook it, and if there's too much oil in the pot we would need to remove the excess, which would also mean removing the rendered pork fat. Not ideal.)
After properly browning the meat, add in our carrots, celery and white onion. There should be brown bits from the meat that's sticking to the bottom of your pan. This is called fond, and fond is flavor! Don't remove the fond and oil we've extracted from the pork because we will cook the vegetables in these. They should come off easily as these vegetables cook because they will release a bit of water as they sweat. The vegetables should be done by 5 minutes. We wont add in the garlic until the carrots have turned a bit soft and the onions translucent. Garlic burns easily and would turn bitter if we added them too early. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the room is fragrant. And I mean FRAGRANT. The carrots, celery and onion is called mirepoix in classic french cuisine and serves as the base for many sauces and soups.
(NOTE: Celery is a bit hard to find in the Philippines and is usually expensive. Just use celery powder if you want, a little goes a long way.)
Once our vegetables are cooked, we add 500mL of our water to the vegetables. This step is called deglazing. We actually deglazed the fond from the pork using our vegetables, and we will once again be deglazing fond produced by our vegetables using our water. White onions and carrots have a lot of sugar in them and cooking then until tender is a great way to release those flavors and incorporate them to our final dish. After we've added the water, we will then scratch off the bottom of our pan until we've removed all of the fond.
We then put everything inside our blender. Blend everything until really smooth. You shouldnt see any chunks big or small of our vegetables because it might be offputting for some since they're not used to seeing vegetables with their lugaw. You will see that once the carrot is finely blended that it our mixture will become yellowish orange, and that is exactly what we want. Most street vendors just add food coloring to their lugaw and we won't be doing that because that method doesnt add any flavor to our dish. All that aroma and fragrance we got from cooking the vegetables over the stove? That's what separates THE BEST LUGAW FROM ALL THE REST.
Once blended, return everything to our cooking pot. Add in our glutinous rice and the rest of our water together with our 2 chicken buillons and fish sauce. Add in the amount ginger to your liking, as some people do not like the taste of ginger especially when you accidentally bite down in it.
(NOTE: Sometimes what I would do is cook the ginger together with the vegetables and then remove it. It's also optional to just crush the ginger and add in the ginger juice.)
My recipe uses a 1:10 ratio between our rice and liquid, 250 grams of rice to 2.5L of water. The glutinous rice actually expands and gobbles up most of our liquid, and thickens our lugaw as if we're reducing our broth through simmering. As the starch from our sticky rice mixes with the pork fat we cooked earlier, it's going to thicken up our lugaw even more through emulsification. Who doesn't like thick lugaw? Bring to a boil then simmer for around 25-30 minutes or until the rice grains are translucent and continue leaving it on very low heat so that it stays warm and continuously stirring so that the rice doesnt end up sticking to the bottom and burning.
(NOTE: You might also be thinking, why not use chicken stock? Well, chicken stock is a bit expensive in the Philippines, and buillons/broth cubes are much more accessible. Also, chicken stock, I believe, will be a bit too overpowering for our dish since we already added mirepoix. We want the dish to not taste too hearty because we still want to be able to add other flavors to our bowl of lugaw later on.)
Once you have the consistency you want of your lugaw, grab a bowl and scoop some. I believe it's best practice to taste the lugaw first on its own to know it's own flavor so take a spoonful first and only then add condiments to your liking. Personally though, I will only add my own chili oil (more on this on a later post), freshly ground black pepper, freshly squeezed calamansi, a little bit of garlic-infused red cane vinegar (a different kind of sour from calamansi and from the regular white vinegar) and that is all.
Cut up some of the pork we've fried earlier and place it in top of your lugaw. The crunchy pieces of fatty pork goes well with the thick, soupy consistency of the lugaw.
(Note: You can use any piece of meat or organ that you like. I simply do not like the laziness of not cleaning internal organs enough most street vendors and carinderias practice. That is understandable that they need to work fast to earn money, but they should boil their innards with some ginger to get rid of the foul taste and smell. If you're using organs, you can still use the same method I did with the meat so you'll still have fond. The common internal organs used for lugaw are usually fatty and will lend a lot of flavor to your lugaw except for the heart which is really muscular. The only exception would probably be ox tripe. Ox tripe is very gummy and chewy and should not be fried. You can boil it separately with some ginger and add it together to your lugaw as you're cooking it. You can even use chicken neck, as chicken skin releases a lot of fat and it crisps up really good which goes well with lugaw. You can also grill your meats and organs instead which will still go well with lugaw.)
I've put a lot of heart into making this recipe. I made a conscious decision to use the cheapest ingredients that make the most impact because I believe that good food doesnt have to be expensive. If you've tried out my recipe or have any other variations you think I missed and would like to share it here as well, I'd like to hear from you!

Will Driver Pay Change in 2014
Advancing talks have been around driver pay and moving in drivers into our industry. OK, that talk has been occurring for the last ten or so years. Some persistent discoursed have been around the prospect that we have to "delink" figuratively how the driver at present gets paid per mile and headway to an hourly rate.
One at risk social affair of the driver pay talk stems around the utilization of the new broad stretches of association. In the first place, we should clear the talk of proposed thriving good conditions of the new broad stretches of association. Our trade will spin around the driver and their compensation according to upkeep and determination. Late in 2013, the new and changed broad stretches of association wound up convincing. With that, a driver needs to take a 30 moment break following to being on duty 8 hours. Another imperative switch that injury up fruitful was when and how a driver uses the 34 hour restart. Eventually a driver needs on numerous occasions of consistent rest between the broad stretches of 1 am and 5 am amidst their 34 hour restart. In the event that they don't accomplish that, they don't recover the 70 hours of driving. They in like way can basically utilize 1 restart in a multi day cycle. These things near to a driver starting at now understanding they have a "scorecard" in a path with the Compliance Safety Accountability (CSA) Program is to tell transporters how well they are getting along as a truck driver. Truck drivers, which is okay, are in fact continuously cautious about ensuring that score, therefore they are accomplishing more that effects what they can do on the clock.
Industry specialists believe this to cost around 20 percent of redi driver usable hours. All things considered, their capability is hampered. Eventually, before consistent changes, drivers achieved different execution things in their day that did not have a genuinely pay relationship. This was in light of the way that it was in the presentation of their driving time so it was "moved" into their driving rate. Drivers acknowledged where they were paid for these acquaintance things and it showed up with be extraordinary. Before long, if the On Duty and Not Driving Time was kept to a base, by then most drivers were energetic. This is the recognize a decent transporter would plan out what the driver would have been doing. In this way the driver found the opportunity to plan out where they were going, what should have been done and the framework was to some degree smooth. On the off chance that the transport did not make these means, did not wear out keeping the drivers moving, by then scouring began to make in light of how that driver was losing imperative time.
A theory in the trucking business that I experienced youth in is, "that if the wheels are turning, everybody is getting paid". For a huge long time, this saying has shown confirmed. Before long, losing practically 20 percent of those usable hours to on duty time and not being made up for puts a strain on the driver. There is no plausibility to get for drivers and bearers to beat that accident. Making changes to even the mileage rate will essentially have irrelevant effect on what a driver will make in their well ordered check. A case of what I am communicating would take after this; as of now a driver that completions 3,000 miles for every week, paid $0.35 per mile would bring home before assessments $1,050 (Annual Rate of $54,600). On the off chance that they lose 20 percent of their profitability, that would be lost 600 miles, bringing the driver down to 2,400 miles for reliably. Notwithstanding whether we raised their compensation by $0.10 to $0.45 per mile; the driver's well ordered pay is $1,080.00 (Annual Rate of $56,160). As you see, there is essentially irrelevant improvement to the driver by developing their mileage pay by 30 percent.
Straightforwardly, plenitude will say that we should pay drivers more than this. I won't appear differently in relation to you there. In our talk here, that is a redirection we won't more then likely overhaul. There would one say one is point of view that is outside of the drivers and to some degree the transporters control and that is, what is the shipper willing to pay? Different shippers are on edge to pay some additional for a genuine quality transporter. That would be a transporter that the shipper may have some history with. Or then again one that has demonstrated to be a quality transporter after some time. Additionally, still, at the day's end, if their transport would create rates by 30 percent like our perspective over, the shipper might need to check whether those rates are the future strong rates, or would it be something shy of that. In any case, a transporter with a long standing client relationship should need to keep from getting into that situation of having another person also offering on those ways. That would also have the alternative to drive the rate down, equivalently as it has happened beginning at now in our free market economy.
So do we change from the mileage rate of pay to possibly an hourly rate of pay? Critical issue there is that the business standard is to pay the transport per mile. Subsequently as such, the driver is in like way paid on that mile. In the event that there's a "capability" made by paying every hour than per mile transport cost could take off. Late perspective; I moved payload from the Chicago zone to Auburn, WA. Complete miles for this is 2,064. Shipper to be charged $4,800 for the shipment. That goes out to $2.33 per mile for the bearer. Utilizing industry midpoints for driver pay, benefits, upkeep, fuel, security, and choices it will cost the transport about $4,100 to move the truck not far-expelled for this shipment. This isn't gross preferred position for the transporter, despite all that they have account on help individuals that does not go into these numbers. So while this shows around 15 percent preferred position, it will be progressively like 4 or 5 percent when everything turns out.
On the off chance that we paid the driver an hourly rate, $15.00 reliably for the 70 hour work week would go out to a potential yearly pay of $54,600. Stretching out this to $20.00 an hour the driver would see a potential yearly pay of $72,800. I state potential yearly compensation in light of the path that there is no affirmation that a driver will accomplish 70 hours out of consistently. Utilizing the $15 reliably condition, on the shipment we just discussed going to Auburn, the driver would have been paid $517.50 for their drive time on this shipment. By then an extra 2 hours out of consistently for Pre and Post trip examinations, Fuel, and evaluation time; the driver would be paid an extra $90.00. With everything taken into account, paying 2 hours at the shipper and representative for stacking and debilitating the driver would be paid another $60.00. Subsequently the driver would have been paid on this trek an aggregate of $667.50. Utilizing the $20 reliably, the driver would have been paid $890.00 for the shipment. As examination, if the driver was on mileage pay of $0.35 per mile they would have made $722.40.
For the transporter, they will require a type of execution basic in their compensation condition. We know to simply pay an hourly rate with no show need could wrap up irrational. For the mileage hour condition, I took the miles, segregated by 60 (regular mph) and collected to the closest half hour. Every single other hour utilized in the figuring were cleared up. Remaining at the $15 reliably a driver will keep losing pay. Moving to $20 reliably would be an advancement of essentially an extra 25 percent.
Time touchy pay has a spot in the transportation business. Those drivers that have been doing shorter runs, various stops and returning home dependably; the hourly scale is ideal for this air. In neighborhood and Over The Road (OTR) applications, it will finish up being genuinely constraining to both the transport and driver.
What is the appropriate response than? For the OTR and normal driver, I think the reasonable response is still in the mixed model that is set up today. We beginning at now have accessorial charges for imprisonment, lumpers, and covering (likely the most remarkable). Transporters may need to begin searching for the pre and post trek time, fuel time or any of different things that beginning at now oust the driver from what their name proposes, driving. Could be a measurement segment of X dollars for ordinary the driver is in the truck and driving. It is only an idea.
As I have weaved my way through this trade, I figure we will see two or three changes brought to the driver as wages in 2014. Transporters are beginning at now looking and endeavoring to comprehend what will be the best for all social gatherings. This joins the shipper, drivers, near to the transporter themselves. As an industry, we in all probability won't hit the nail on the head the fundamental experience around, yet I am certain that before the present year's over we would have seen two or three changes.

Lift the Veil - Chapter 2: Ocean Eyes
Rating: PG
Summary: After living in Tokyo for the past six years, she decides to head back to Azumano to escape the big city. However, she now has to face everything that she tried to flee from all those years ago. How exactly will she fare when the pages of a long forgotten book start turning once more?
Read On: FanFiction.Net, Archive of Our Own
I’m about more than a month late in updating this. I’m terrible at writing and keeping track of things. Please enjoy this extremely late update.
Chapter 2 – Ocean Eyes
I’m scared; you really know how to make me cry.
My first day back in Azumano, as eventful as it was, couldn’t soften the blow of having to go back to work so soon. After leaving the NHK less than a week ago, I found myself at the Azumano news station the morning after my return home, watching the seniors lackadaisically droop in their respective offices and cubicles.
“Not much of a welcome, huh?” Saehara asked as we passed by a neat table of documents. “Pretty sure you had more fun working in Tokyo. After all, not much happens here anymore, so we’ve resorted to reporting on all these lame stories.” He sighed. “Oh, how I wish Dark Mousy was still around. Pretty sure you do too, deep down inside.”
He winked at me, and I couldn’t help but cringe. Sure, my adolescent self had fallen head over heels for him and yes, somewhere in my head he still fit the image of my ideal man, but bringing him up in that context after ten years?
Saehara, you damage whatever shred of dignity I had left after crawling back here.
We stopped in front of a neat workspace wedged in the middle of messily occupied ones. “This is your cubicle. Make yourself at home and settle in, but don’t sit until your butt leaves an imprint in your chair. We’re headed over to Chief’s to get the deets on anything and everything.”
He winked again, leaving me to my relatively private space. Putting down my box of office supplies, I examined my cubicle once more and smiled. On the shelf, I placed a fake potted flower and a couple of parting gifts from friends back in Tokyo. I hung a couple of photos of me, Riku, Daisuke, and Ritsuko on the wall before arranging the rest of my office supplies. I stood back when I finished, pleased at my personalized touches.
“Oh! That’s nice Harada-imouto,” Saehara complimented, slightly shocking me from his unannounced return. “More plain that I expected it to be, though.”
“Thanks…” I mumbled, grabbing my leather tote and following Saehara out of the dismal news station.
“The police station’s not too far, unless, of course, you’re wearing heels.” He glanced down at my shoes, and I reveled in his expression when he saw the tennis shoes I donned. “Huh. Never thought I’d see the day.”
“Saehara, it would be nice if you didn’t project your condescending opinions about me; it’s childish. And everyone knows working at the police station is fieldwork no matter how far it is from the news station.”
I rendered him speechless from my criticism probably because he expected me to run my infamous tantrums until I ran out of energy. Somehow, I had gotten away with them back in high school but, after being displaced in Tokyo, I quickly learned that they wouldn’t fly in the adult world I had, unfortunately, grown into.
He coughed. “So, you’ve done fieldwork before?”
“It was brutal. Try training in Tokyo and get back to me.” It was my turn to wink, and I couldn’t help but chuckle when Saehara’s face blanched.
“Harada-imouto, I think Tokyo’s made you a force to be reckoned with.”
With my signature hair flip, I shot him the smile that once charmed the entire male population at Azumano High. “Well, I had to toughen up for the big leagues, after all.”
Saehara starting barking and hooting, either trying to pump me up or compliment my change from the delicate flower I was in high school. I kept him going, entertained by his energy, until we walked into the police station and was greeted by a blank-faced Hiwatari holding a cup of coffee.
“So, who let the dogs out so damn early in the morning?” he grumbled, taking a sip of his coffee as his cold eyes bore into Saehara.
“Sorry, Chief. I got caught up in the…spirit?”
“Of annoying me? This station was peaceful until I let you camp out here. Let me remind you that I can kick you out as easily as I let you in.”
“Chief, please, humble my presence for I am a lowly plebian that was allowed to beg for stories by your divine grace.” Saehara bowed and then stood up with a giant smile. Hiwatari returned it as best as he could, and the two of them laughed.
“Anyways, good morning, Harada-san. If you need anything, feel free to ask anyone for assistance.” He waved goodbye before disappearing behind empty cubicles into an office wedged in the far corner of the room. After he slammed his door shut, silence filled the air as I attempted to comprehend what I had just witnessed.
“You two get along?” I asked, awestruck at how Saehara managed to get on Hiwatari’s good side.
“Yeah. We’ve been ever since I started working here. I didn’t realize he was such a swell guy until we went out to drink after work. Even since then, we’ve gotten along.” He smirked. “What? Are you jealous?”
“Of that? Please. Get over yourself.”
While Saehara guffawed, I sat down and opened my laptop, starting to review a couple of stories prepared for today’s broadcast. In the middle of a piece about the health benefits of an Okinawan diet, Saehara slinked away only to come back with two cups of hot drinks, yogurt container, and a bowl of fruit.
“Here.” He handed me one of the drinks. “Chai latté, freshly brewed from your premade, neighborhood coffee machine. And some yogurt and fruit á la fridge de la breakroom. I already had my fair share of donuts during my visit there, so don’t worry about me.”
I blinked. “How did you—”
“I bumped into Chief refilling his mug of coffee. He told me you liked chai lattés and couldn’t eat anything heavy in the morning.” He shifted his seating positing, resting his elbows on his knees while cradling his drink in his hands. “Seems like nothing has changed from high school; even now, he’s still looking after you.”
A frown settled on my face as I mixed my yogurt and fruit together. “He’s just being courteous to the newcomer; that’s all,”
“Huh.” He didn’t say anymore, downing his drink before I could express concern over whether his mouth and throat were okay from chugging something that hot that quickly, and hopped up from his seat with his trusty steno pad and pen in his hands. Walking away, he talked to himself about plans to pester the squad until he squeezed every last story, interesting or not, out of them.
I shook my head, astonished that Saehara was still his busy-body self that dotted my high school experience. Taking a spoonful of yogurt, I returned to proofread the files piling up inside my inbox.
“Here.”
On the coffee table in front of me, Saehara placed a paper bag that smelled oddly like Italian. He took out a small container, handing it to me along with a plastic utensil set.
“What’s the occasion?” I asked, removing the container’s lid and seeing a huge serving of carbonara nestled in its plastic abode. As much as I loved this dish, anything smothered in cream-based sauces was too heavy for me. Funny, since I loved them as a high schooler, but living by myself and becoming gravely conscious of my health (and my already slowing metabolism, much to my dismay) changed my preferences in food.
“Your first day on the job. It’s about as good as a welcome as you’re going to get.” He slurped his spaghetti as if he hasn’t eaten in a week, and I felt my face instinctively distort in disgust.
“Thanks, but I feel less welcome after watching you eat like that.” I swirled some of the pasta before enjoying this nostalgic taste. “You’re not going to get a woman with those table manners.”
He smirked, continuing to scarf down his food probably to spite me. “Just because you don’t like the way I eat doesn’t mean my honey agrees with you.”
Too preoccupied with my food, I didn’t pay much attention to his gloating tone and the words that accompanied it. They finally hit me after I polished off my carbonara. Astonished that Saehara, of all people, managed to find and keep a girlfriend, I returned to my laptop and edited the day away, keeping an eye out for the man so that I could grill him for more information. (Hopefully, that conversation doesn’t last long enough for Saehara to pry into my dry well of a love life.)
He returned maybe an hour or two later, tearing a piece of paper from his steno pad, placing it next to my laptop plopping onto the couch and sighing.
“Missing your honey?”
“I’m always missing her.” He sighed again. “Chief’s only got petty crimes to report. They’re not much of a story unless you want to cover bullying in our local schools.”
“Maybe we could do a small story about rampant bullying in our education system? It’s not much of a report, but it’s at least some type of filler.”
Saehara groaned. “Maybe. But I don’t want to be in charge of something as lame as that! I need something with more pizzazz!”
“You could always sensationalize it.”
“And ruin my credibility? Harada-imouto, I’ve told the truth and nothing but the truth ever since I started down this path.”
I stopped typing, raising my eyebrow at him. He shot me a displeased expression and, wholly amused, I returned to my work with a smile on my face. To think that I would not only work with Saehara but also enjoy his company was something my younger self could never bring herself to imagine.
“So, ‘truth-teller,’ tell me about this girlfriend of yours.”
He shook his head at the sarcasm dripping from my tone, but I saw his expression lighten and his eyes glimmer once he got over my sass. God, the poor boy was smitten.
“Akane Himawari: the happy sunflower of my life. I met her at a café I frequented back in college, and she always had her nose in a book. We became friends when I grew the balls to actually talk to her. Didn’t have the guts to move any further than that, so we graduated, and I was no closer to her than I was when I first chatted her up…”
To think that the obnoxious Saehara would actually give a girl he was courting her space was unbelievable. He paused his story and shot me a puzzled expression.
“What are you judging me for now?”
“You did get closer to her, you idiot. You two became friends.”
He rolled his eyes. “If you had waited for me to finish like any respectable human being would’ve, I was going to tack ‘romantically’ after that. Anyways, once I became friends with Chief, we met up at that same café once, and I saw her furiously typing at her computer.
“According to Chief, I wouldn’t shut up about her, so he gave me that look—you know, the one where he’s fed up with your idiocy—before telling me that I was in love with this girl, and that I needed to carpe diem, or I may never get the chance to ever ask her out again. Needless to say, we’ve been dating ever since.”
“Cute,” I grumbled, trying to hide my disdain at Hiwatari’s mention.
“What? Jealous you don’t have a boyfriend?”
“Sure. Let’s go with that.”
Howling with laughter, he got up with gumption, bouncing away in search of some hidden gem. I shook my head, both entertained and disgusted at the sight of such a love-sick person before returning back to my laptop and escaping from my reality.
“I’ll be heading off now!”
“See you tomorrow.”
He waved goodbye, walking out with his messenger bag slung over his slouched shoulders. Outside, the sun started setting, hiding behind the trees and buildings in my line of sight. Knowing how still Azumano became once darkness settled in, the sunset would turn the police station into a ghost town. I still had some stories I had to skim through before the broadcast, so I decided to stay put until Captain said they were ready. I also needed to type up Saehara’s list and see what we could squeeze from it but, after glancing at it earlier, it was terribly dry. At least the station was quiet enough to let me focus.
I didn’t notice that night had fallen until Hiwatari snapped me away from my laptop. “You’re still here?”
Looking up, I saw him, with this trademark poker face, holding a suitcase. My eyes quickly darted from Hiwatari to the night-shift behind him, silently cooped up in their tiny cubicles with their eyes void of energy or happiness. I couldn’t blame them; if I were in their position, I’d probably die a little each time I had to stay up all night watching the clock flit by as I did nothing.
“Work.”
He nodded, and I expected him to leave with a simple farewell. But he sat next to me on the couch, pulling out a novel (Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami: the book that kept me afloat during my first two years at college) and casually reading. If I had to deal with his conspicuous presence any longer than I had to, it would drive me insane. Pulling out my headphones, I turned on my music to distract myself from his slender fingers gingerly flipping through pages that held words dear to me.
When I finally finished, I started packing my stuff quickly, trying to flee before Hiwatari said something or tried to stop me.
“Done?” he asked, looking up from the book.
I silently nodded, hating how courteous I was towards him. He closed the novel, placing it in his bag before standing up, his face as empty as ever.
“Are you hungry, Harada-san?”
“I’m fine, thank you.”
I was about to head for the door when I felt a warm hand gently touch my arm. Whipping my head around, I saw Hiwatari’s face. His concern screamed with the slant of his eyebrows, the shine in his eyes and the outline of his lips—
“Risa, please, I insist.”
Taking a deep breath, I brushed his hand off me. “Hiwatari-san, please call me Harada-san.”
I rushed out the door, hoping that the cool night air would calm me down. But I spent the walk home hearing the heavy pounding of my heart, trying not to let my swirling emotions prevent me from enjoying my evening.

Types of Vinyl Privacy Fences For North East Ohio
In many neighborhoods across America, privacy fencing is a must. It is an important part of a home’s exterior and offers privacy and security against trespassers. That’s not all, with a high-quality vinyl privacy fence, the value of your home will increase and so will the aesthetic appeal.
Some residential areas in Northeast Ohio are built with backyards and front yards that are open and connected with no barriers. These structural plans were okay decades ago, but not anymore.
Do you remember running through your neighbor’s yard as a child? The world has changed a lot since then, and with this change comes a desire to be safe and protect the little ones we love.
Why You Should Get A Vinyl Fence For Your Home
Vinyl fences are high enough (4ft – 6ft) to create an invisible barrier. They are made with a thick vinyl material for durability. These materials usually look natural so that they blend in with the environment.
You should choose a privacy fence if you want to keep your pets and kids inside your yard while keeping the neighbor’s pets and kids out. It’s a great way to keep the peace in your neighborhood and will give you some peace of mind too.
What most homeowners love about this type of fencing is the added comfort it provides in the form of a visual barrier. If you prefer to keep to yourself, and don’t like it when your neighbors encroach on your space, then vinyl privacy fences will solve your problem.

Countless homeowners favor this because the accents are used to break up the solid look. Some also choose accents because they match the picket fences in their neighborhood. It’s a nice way to stay consistent and still get the privacy you desire.
The accents do not affect the functionality of the fence. Your privacy fence will still deliver a visual screen and the panels can still be outfitted with a soundproof material.

Unmistakable Types of Schooling - Public, Private, Homeschooling and Unschooling
As gatekeepers we require what is best for our young people; the best success, the best neighborhoods, happiness, high sureness, and the best planning. An OK planning begins with the sort of tutoring the tyke is shown to and how high the quality is of this instructing. In like way considered is the inclination of the pre-adult's kin. Everything considered, contrasting guardians filter for various things in their tyke's planning. Some need socialization or outstanding associations while others are examining for little class assess and shocking instructive materials. Still remarkable guards are most worried over innovative considering and tyke encouraged learning. Following is a connection between's four focal sorts of tutoring; open, private, home and inevitably unschooling.
State sponsored Schools There is much feedback about the organization financed educational system - its low quality, low teacher gauges, nonappearance of workmanship and music getting ready, and whatnot. In any case, it ought to be seen that without state sponsored getting ready different adolescents would have no preface to course by any reach out of the innovative capacity. State financed schools were begun to guarantee parallel instructive open portal. Shockingly between poor money related association and scattered instructive goals, that equivalent getting ready is genuinely tragic.
With every single one of the cons of open training it doesn't appear to look great to send your (or any) tyke there. In any case, there are some unprecedented fixations to government financed rule and it serves basic points of confinement in individuals as a rule eye. Since the start of open coaching, preparing has stretched out to ideal around 95% over the most recent 150 years. Fundamental math aptitudes is a capacity that an extensive number people have in America now and also the capacity to frame all around okay to round out a business application and express a supposition to a picked official. Plus, the work oblige benefits by state financed getting ready, as a pool of future operators and furthermore a place to keep kids saw while guards work.
As a parent you can do a wonderful course of action to expand the reasonableness of your youngster's organization financed heading. Demand social occasions with instructors. Different educators now give understudies and their kin with an email address. Remain in contact with them thusly. Join the PTA and go to whatever number social events as could sensibly be typical. Go to class board and city get-togethers. On the off chance that you have any anxiety, chitchat with your childhood's bearing instructor and the essential. State financed school takes work, exertion and commitment yet quality getting ready can be found there.
Instructive cost based schools Private schools have for a long time been associated with riches, preferred standpoint and better quality course.Get more information about school then you can always consider colegio integral caballito. Family of high status individuals go to instructive cost based school. In any case, is it really superior to anything state upheld school? From alternate points of view, most likely. Class measure is normally humbler which obliges a lower educator understudy degree. The edifying materials are all things considered better quality. Understudies in instructive cost based schools are reliably held to higher gages than the understudies in state financed schools. Obviously, when watchmen are paying piles of cash for their youths to go to a school they predict that that school will perform. It is fundamental to watch that socially non-government financed schools don't have every one of the reserves of being that by and large unique. Children are relatively as judgmental and cliquey in instructive cost based schools.
Self-teaching At one time self-educating was associated with totally religious guardians who did not require their kids corrupted by standard planning or families who lived so inaccessible from any school that self-training just looks great. All the all the more beginning late, regardless, homeschoolers are starting late needing to have greater responsibility regarding their kids' readiness. In light of the Internet, instructing your adolescents at home has never been less asking. There are various objectives offering material (both forever and available to be purchased) to enable self-to instruct your pre-adult.
There is some anxiety and feedback that children who are self-taught don't get the socialization that diverse kids get from school. This may have been a more significant measure of an issue in the past yet current homeschoolers make it a need to guarantee that their youngsters share in sports and other party exercises with the target that socialization can happen.
While self-educating can be the best kind of coaching for several young people, it takes an enormous commitment from the watchmen in time, vitality, and cash. One parent needs to remain home and spend a reasonable bit of the day training. Despite the way that you can locate some sensible or free self-demonstrating hotspots for planning supplies, the death of a wage can overwhelm for a couple of families.
Unschooling takes after self-teaching in that the tyke remains home to learn. Get more details about school then you can always consider integral caballito. The capability with unschooling is that there is no set informational undertakings. Or, then again perhaps the pre-adult arranges the enlightening modules as appeared by their own specific purposes of intrigue. By engaging the tyke to encourage the technique for course, the youngster is more entranced and instigated. The hypothesis is that an adolescent's trademark interest will drive them to get the hang of all that they have to know at any rate. It is basic to watch that unschooling isn't true blue in all states.Choosing the sort of tutoring that your childhood gets is a fundamental choice that depends upon a broad assortment of parts including pay, particular emotions, region, and tyke's best room. Ideally the data in this article will enable you to settle on an educated choice.

Instances Of Venture.
Aurora, the 3rd largest area in the condition and a suburban center found just outside of Denver, is actually house to some of Colorado's finest and most extensive arts and home entertainment courses. Particularly, to imagine an institution closet, signifies concealed feelings, expertise, and perspectives that you need to know and/or acknowledge. The university is a breathing symbol of the suitables from Maharishi Dayanand Ji as well as Mahatma Hansraj Ji. The college has gradually created its own location as a premier organization on the educational chart of India. If you answered yes to each one of these questions (Well carried out!) you are actually appearing great, yet that won't aid you a lot if you would like to be the absolute most preferred woman in school. Basile is included along with several education-based charities featuring Children of the Urban area as well as the Joe DiMaggio Committee for Xaverian High School. If you graduate from university, your Grade Point Average generally won't matter much throughout your lifestyle either (unless you consider to go to graduate school). I have actually observed some rather bad university image systems over times, which leads me to the most vital element when picking your school freelance photographer, high quality. Okay, project number one was chosen, yet our company still must think of a few other institution task suggestions for job number two. They really feel the college must assist all of them by avoiding their child coming from accessing foods they shouldn't while at college. Listed here is actually a listing from few substantial lead to invite your checklist while you are watching out for an ideal institution for you kid. There are 4 rugby sounds on the main website for usage by Elder University, along with Coleman's industry providing additional pitches for the Junior Institution. Take note: The above totals are for trainees that arise from a public high school and also is going to sign up in an independent school (DepEd permitted). Therefore, certainly not just perform you have to understand the admissions needs of your college from selection, you likewise should determine graduate colleges that supply exactly what you are actually trying to find. M.F.G I certainly never recognized that this loud of infomaition will relly operate, I read through all from it and also today I am the best preferred girl in university xx thanks a lot! A neighborhood where little ones could observe the difficulty from democracy, and also love it. I still feel that's the response. That is true that many pupils discover that university job is rather more difficult than high school work. I took some of mine at an area college and also I was actually approved at each school I administered, so I do certainly not see this as a limit. Institution consistent tends to be actually much cheaper in comparison to regular outfits in the UK, if that is actually general. Coming back these kids to university is actually a concern for Iraq to end the pattern of sectarian violence sustained in part by hardship and also ignorance, the United Nations states. What This Achieves: Not only have you detailed the cause the little one was actually visited the instructors, yet you have actually likewise asked for some aid from them in making certain he changes well. Consider these positions, yet perform not create your selection located completely on which school has the most ideal examination scores. Doing something for the advantage from others and certainly not to be self-seeking is additionally a huge part of university fundraising. This lie commonly confuses kids, considering that institution healthyfit-blog.com does not constantly feel safe to them. This is much easier to rapidly begin feeling in charge of the youngster's bursting into tears and also to remove whatever is actually inducing the child pain.

Thoughts on“Reverse Racism”
Okay, this is all I’m going to say. I didn’t have a lot of time, so I barely got this done, but this is all I’m going to say about this. I won’t say anything more.
@creamsicklesz Here is my response, and although I highly doubt you’d change your mind, I wanted to say this.
Okay so this is the beginning of this long explanation on my thoughts to not only your responses on the topic, but just in general about the topic itself.
Racism
noun
1.a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human racial groups determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to dominate others or that a particular racial group is inferior to the others.
2 . a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.
To begin, I want to start off with talking about what racism is. Many people including yourself classify racism to be a simple definition is based off individual opinion and belief. They simply define racism as a belief that your skin color or “race” makes one race better or superior to the other. However, you can refuse it all you want, but racism is so much more than that. Its overly simplified, and to understand it you do not just look at a simple definition.
Prejudice is a belief. It is judging people or something without prior knowledge of said person or thing. You can be prejudiced towards a white person.
Discrimination is when the prejudice someone has, is put into action. If someone is refused a job or service because of their race or ethnicity or anything of the sort, it is discrimination. An example used by this article was if a black person who was an interviewer were to refuse a white person who is being interviewed, or vice versa, it would be discrimination. You can discriminate against white people.
Racism is when this combination of prejudice and discrimination is becoming the norm or “institutionalized” within the population. Never ever have white people being segregated, treated unfairly, or anything of that sort been the norm. Never has there been a law that made whites anything less than privileged.
Now that that’s out the way, I want to address the responses you’ve made.
First I want to say that opinions by nature are biased. Whomever writes them and whomever speaks them, have decided from different sources and have a bias towards a certain opinion. To me, what is considered “unbiased” to you means that the source must come from someone who shares your views. My views and the views of those who think like me are very much biased and so are yours.
“This belief that you SIMPLY CANNOT BE RACIST towards white people keeps racism alive, it keep the divide between people and you are part of the problem. You should do some research instead of blindly listening to your parents or what the media tells you. Racism is racism plain and simple. When you group an entire race together for the actions of some, you are being racist.”
1) Racism has never been a problem with white people. What you consider “racism” towards whites is not why racism is alive. Racism is alive because of whoop you guessed it racists. People who still believe it’s okay to discriminate against minorities and people who don’t have the power or institutional support to fight back.
2) If I am part of the problem, the problem you are speaking of is completely different than the one that is happening before us. The problem is that racists are still able to oppress and discriminate against racial minorities and get away with it. Trump is a GREAT example. He is a huge racist and look at him, he’s our president. He, a WHITE MAN is holding the power of the POTUS, and because racism is so normalized in our society, It’s okay. Being mean to white people isn’t the problem.
3) You do not know me, and the comment that I blindly listen to my parents or social media was unnecessary, don’t try to invalidate others without knowing where they come from first. On that note, my parents heavily prejudiced towards black people specifically. My mother has literally told my sister that a boy she liked was ugly because he was very dark-skinned,and my father said black people should be grateful that slavery allowed their race to be more built and good at sports. They’ve never made an opinion about white people and told me that I should listen to what they say. The media is a whole other story. Media always depicts minorities and anyone other than white, cis, heterosexuals in a different light. Media tells me that the white man is the superior to all of us, and if I believed that, well I wouldn’t be typing this right now.
4) Again, “racism is racism” means something different to you than me
” So if your source of education and research on this topic happens to be MTV Decoded and/or Francesca Ramsey, you really need to find another source that is unbiased and based in actual facts and logic, one that doesn’t Re-Define things to fit their agendas okay? MTV and Buzzfeed are heavy on that SJW sauce and they constantly contradict themselves. “
I will list my sources that I’ve used if you truly want to see that I’m not one to use only one source. I did not choose that video because of nothing, it made good points and although you may consider it heavily biased, the video made points that are important to address. Like I said before every opinion is biased and you can use different sources of facts to support your claim.
I’m going to break this quote into parts.
1) “White Americans are the racial majority in America. So it would make sense that we get the most representation in MSM right? with that being said, the beauty ideals in America differ from region to region, however, tan and golden is the Most sought after. Not pale AF like myself, Not super dark like some. You cant blame others for your internalized colorism. I am CERTAINLY not the ideal beauty according to ANYONES MSM.-“
Like you said, beauty standards may differ from place to place. I agree with this opinion, but you are focusing only on skin color. If the ideal is “tan and golden” then why arent most models like that? Why is it that for example a black model isn’t sought out by companies? It’s because beauty ideals do not deal only with skin tone. Black features like their big lips (and I mean big, not the ideal “thick and plump”) or any other natural black feature are often seen as ugly. You do have people to blame for internalized colorism. It’s in the name, meaning someone or something has made you feel that one color skin is more beautiful or preferred than another. The only difference is how you decide to deal with it. It’s not easy to rid of things that were internalized, but people need to try.
2) “Most people don’t give two fucks about your race and most people celebrate differences, especially these days. To those who have bad experiences with some white people, its is RACIST to assume all white people are the same and to avoid them completely.”
I personally don’t know where you live or what kind of environment you are surrounded by, but its true that in many places, specifically large urban areas, diversity is embraced and celebrated, but that isn’t the case everywhere. You have to understand that while you might live somewhere where racial diversity is embraced, others can be and are still discriminated against in other places. I do agree that ignoring someone based on their race is not okay, but this is an example of prejudice and discrimination of an individual, and NOT the normalized racism you see with others.
3) “Just like Not ALL black people in America are criminals or bad people. Would you say its okay for a white person to avoid and judge black people for past experiences they’ve had? NO, you would call it racist, wouldn’t you? I was physically attacked for my race and still, some would say that’s its not racist. You have no compassion if you think that’s not racist. And still! I don’t judge any other black person for the way those 4 girls ganged up on me. I don’t judge other for the looks that I get from SOME black people. I never judged when SOME black people wouldn’t touch my hand when I was trying to give them their money when I worked at Walgreens. I didn’t judge all black people when I lived in Chicago and was CLEARLY the minority in my neighborhood. Don’t have double standards. It’s perpetuating racism and making it worse. I’m sorry if this OFFENDS anyone, but this is something I’ve always HATED. I HATE racism, sexism, homophobia. And I know most people do too. So I can NEVER UNDERSTAND how some think this is okay?! “
It is true that we shouldn’t discriminate against each other. It is dumb to assume that a few people represent an entire group. But again, it’s not racist. It is prejudiced, it is discrimination, but it is not racism. I guess you would deem me with no compassion, but that is not true. I can’t say anything about the situation where those girls “ganged up on you” because I know nothing of the situation. As for the walgreens thing, how do you know specifically it was because of race? I don’t like when people touch my hands, especially not strangers, so again, unless I was there, I can’t say anything.
“Every race has had their slaves, but people don’t think that counts. For some reason, we never learn about how the Arabs and the Middle East hosted more African slaves than North America ever did, we don’t learn about how white slaves were sold in Africa along with their own people, the fact that the slaves who came to America were sold by their own people is just ignored bc it doesn fit the racist agenda that is popular now. The African Moors had white slaves for hundreds of years.
This doesn’t mean that the slave trade in America wasn’t horrible, it obviously was, it just means it wasn’t special. As far as discrimination in todays Western society, In America since that is what I can speak first hand for, I can agree that white people haven’t had to deal with what blacks did. that’s %100 true. However, bringing back segregation and shifting the racism towards white people doesn’t make up for what happened in the past. I wasn’t alive for slavery or for segregation in the 50’s and 60’s but I can tell you right now I would have been in the street and sit ins along with all the other humans that deserved equal treatment. “By the way, in my opinion, racism is a way of thinking, its not just a definition. It’s thinking you are better than someone bc of their skin. it’s using an entire race as a scapegoat to explain your or the worlds problems. Its simply not having love and compassion for another human being. Its evil and its the worst part of humanity, it is the utter LACK of humanity. And no race is exempt from this. To say an entire race IS exempt from this is to say that race is superior to the other. This is R A C I S M”
The entire first paragraph is what I would parallel with the “All Lives Matter”. Yes other people had slaves, I acknowledge that this happened, but using it to defend your point is tearing down not only the suffering people went through, and the work we’ve done to try and rid of it. The “white slaves sold by their own people.” were mostly from Ireland and Europe. They came here willingly and those who didn’t most likely were told they had to be indentured servants in the U.S. by their country. I am going to emphasized indentured servants, because they were not slaves at all. They were treated far better than slaves in the south.
The African Moors did have white slaves, and it was a preference toward the blond hair, blue eyes. Their peak of european slaves was around 1.2 million, while America was home to about 4 million african slaves.
An example I want to use is if two people had a serious injury. Let’s say person 1 had one leg missing and person 2 had both legs missing. You wouldn’t tell person one to suck it up just because person 2 has both legs gone. You wouldn’t tell person 1 that their injury isn’t special or doesn’t matter because someone else has it worse. We are not shifting racism to whites, you are still in power, you are still majority, you are still privileged whether you want to deny it or not. It’s common sense that anyone should stand up to equality in the 50s and 60s. the 50s and 60s right? Well ye-no. In the decades of segregation, colorism was internalized and although you may have grown up with and abusive step father now, you have absolutely no idea who you would be raised by and how you would have grown up there. Racism is a way of thinking, but the thing that makes it racism is the fact that its normalized and minorities are not supported in any institution. The government is discriminatory of us, and that is racism.
In regards to this article
I don’t like this quote
“How would that have felt? Might you have imagined that this could reinforce in the minds of your classmates the stereotype that blacks are weak students?”
The whole situation itself that they used as an example is really weird. To say that someone is “randomly” put into an advanced class. Minorities in college were not “randomly” put there. You can’t compare someone being “randomly placed in an advanced class in high school” to someone who applied and has shown enough strength to be accepted into college. Colleges don’t pick minority students just because they can, minority students still have to work hard and have the qualifications to be accepted into colleges.
Stereotypes are bad enough. This sentence is saying that the students in your class already look down on you for being black. It is saying that this stereotype is already in their mind and that when they see you doing bad, they’re like “ see black people are lazy”.
Minorities don’t have the same opportunities as white people already, affirmative action is providing those opportunities. If minorities are failing in colleges because of SAT scores and grades, then maybe think why they don’t do as well.
University of Texas:
A lot of this is saying that blacks and minorities aren’t academically prepared or competitive but I’m going to tell you that that this starts even before college. Minorities tend to be predominantly low income so they’ll be more likely to live in low income areas. If you compare these two maps, most low-income areas are higher in population of black and hispanics. This means that most likely, their schools don’t have the funds to give them the opportunities and funds to even be able to be competitive from even before college or highschool. Same goes for this data.
“Minorities also have a higher chance of being accepted in universities, even if their grades or academic record is not as “good” as their white peers. Again, they have the privilege. The problem of minorities not getting higher level education is that a larger percentage than white people do not finish high school or seek higher education.”
“Second, strong black and Hispanic students accepted UCLA offers of admission at much higher rates after the preferences ban went into effect; their choices seem to suggest that they were eager to attend a school where the stigma of a preference could not be attached to them. This mitigated the drop in enrollment.”
Again, I believe that this has to do with the fact that minorities are discouraged to begin with. They have few role models and representation, and the prejudice in this country often tells them that they won’t be able to account to anything.
“I wont get into black on black crime being more prevalent than white on black crime bc no one seems to think that’s valid.”
Mm it really depends because yes, black on black is more than white on black, but so is white on white. So depending on what you’re trying to argue, it could or couldn’t be valid.
“Not as many white people experience this because the white community finishes high school more often, they have less babies at a young age and out of wedlock, and they get jobs because of this. “
Whites generally have higher incomes which means better education. Better education not only means knowledge like math and writing, but also knowledge about family planning and safe sex. This really seems like you’re trying to allude that whites are superior because of their favoring in our society, but I could be misunderstanding.
“ I see more positivity regarding black hair etc. than I’ve ever seen negativity, at least in my lifetime and this generation. I see more negativity within the black community itself. This racism against whites is not social equality.”
You see more positivity on black hair nowadays because you most likely see it on the internet (which is a big thing in this generation), in the real world out there, not the internet community, a lot of people experience negativity about their hair. Again, just because you personally haven’t seen much of it, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. And yes it is social equality, why? Because you are finally getting to see what it’s like to be us, and even now you still don’t and will not experience discrimination and racism at the level that we do.
“Two wrongs to not make a right. Knocking someone else down doesn’t bring you up. And it certainly doesn’t end racism in general, it perpetuates it. White people have not had privilege in a long time. Hell, white people aren’t even the race doing the best within America, that’s Asian Americans! They get the best jobs and the highest education. Because, on average, Asian families stay together, they have strong morals and work ethic, and they have a very strong emphasis in education.”
I agree with your first statement, but white people still have privilege….. The fact that whites get charged less time for the same crimes, you aren’t as frequent victims or police brutality, you won’t be ridiculed for your name, you can express yourself using other cultures and not be called “dirty” or be told to go back to your country for speaking your native language. Most likely, English is your first language, and you won’t be laughed at for an accent not favorable (ex: the Asian stereotype of “herro” vs people loving British accents). You guys are seen most times seen as one of the races least likely to commit serious crimes. Those are all privileges that aren’t available to all of us. Asian Americans are doing very well in America why though? You can look here. (and some other links in my sources). The very strong emphasis on education is a good thing, but it can also be very draining, as Asian American children have this weight put on their shoulders and even in Asian countries, many mental downsides come along with this. One example would be their very high suicide rates.
“I do feel entitled to be treated like a human, just as everyone else should. I don’t feel that its right to be called a “White Devil” or that all white people are born racist and are inferior or to be attacked for no reason, for things ive never done, all because I’m white. I don’t care what you or anyone says, that RACIST.”
You do have the right to be treated like a human and everyone else too, the problem is that’s not the case with us. White people are treated like humans. Minorities (and not just racial minorities I mean all minorities) are denied rights and treated like we are inferior to whites. WE are the ones treated like the inferiors, not you, especially because we tend to have lower incomes, we struggle even more as a group. WE are attacked for no reason and far more often than whites. Whites are definitely not the victim, which is what I’m getting from this statement.
“If i were to group you all together for what one person does, it would not affect your ability to get jobs, to get higher level education, and other things of that sort Affirmative action was created to specifically help minorities acquire jobs and it is still active today, so in fact, minorities have the privilege in this instance. If someone is denied work simply because of their race and not their attitude, qualifications, or overall skill, that person can sue and will %100 win.” “However on the occasion that there is discrimination, which I know there is, that person has the ability to sue and I can guarantee they will win. This disproves systematic racism along with the other examples I provided above. And just in case they can’t afford to sue, there are public defenders and the NAACP has provided legal counsel for the black community on numerous occasions. “
If you were to group us together of course it wouldn’t affect as as you are one person. When a lot of white people who are the ethnic majority were to do the same thing, then we have a problem. Affirmative action was created to help us, but maybe you should think why we would need help in the first place? It’s trying to help us have equal opportunities that come naturally to a person born white in America. How can you 100% guarantee that if someone sues that they would win? The justice system itself is a problem at times, police brutality is made out to be okay, so what makes you think that someone would win in a court for this? I really don’t understand how you think that special programs that are made to help us = reverse racism? If we were equal we wouldn’t even need these programs, if we were equal then everyone would have the money to sue, if we were equal, then we wouldn’t have had to sue to begin with. Just because there are some programs here and there that help us, doesn’t disprove systemic racism. Systemic racism is still very much valid.
“As for “Other things” minorities are more likely to receive government assistance in the way of housing, food stamps, child care, and disability pay. In fact, I can give you a personal anecdote to prove my point. My Mothers BF had surgery on his back and was unable to work for 3 months. In an attempt to collect disability for the months he needed to recuperate, he was told he would NEED to be out for AT LEAST 365 days to receive disability checks. He was confused by this because his coworker received disability for the 3 weeks he couldn’t work due to a broken hand. He brought this up and asked why it is different for him and the worker straight up told him it was because he was white. That coworker of his was also an illegal immigrant fyi.”
My only problem with these examples is that I really can’t say anything about them because I don’t have enough detail. Where did her BF work? What was his role? What were the circumstances? I don’t know. I also don’t want to get into the treatment of illegal immigrants, especially in agribusiness. What I will say is that more often than not, we are more likely to get assistance because we are more likely to need assistance. Again, this is because our races have been oppressed and forced to the bottom of this social hierarchy.
“Im sorry but that doesn’t seem like they are being treated justly by the government. As for “White people have always had the advantage when it comes to race.” I agree, especially with “had”. past tense. I have no advantages as a white. I am middle-lower middle class in America. I cannot afford to go to college yet I cannot get govt assistance because my mother makes too much money. Not enough to send me to college though. However, if I was a minority I would have no problems getting grants and scholarships and financial aid. I have to wait to apply for fafsa or student loans until I turn 24 this year so they no longer need my parent income info or a cosigner for loans. I am not advantaged. I get jobs based on my skill level and my work ethic, not my race. The current job I have, I got lucky bc I happened to know someone working here already. Before this I was at Walgreens with my mixed race fellow employees and my black female manager.”
You do have advantages as a white. Really you do. If it was a minority in your place, I can place my bets that they wouldn’t have as many opportunities as you do just by being white. If you are having problem getting grants or financial aid for college, I think it could be because of research. Now I don’t know if you did a lot of research or not, I don’t know what you’ve done to try and get help for college, so I’m not saying at all that you didn’t try hard enough or anything. You as a white person actually have more of a chance to get monetary scholarships than a minorities. I don’t know your grades or what you’ve done in school so again, I can’t say if you aren’t or are qualified for these, but I’m assuming if you do rather well in school, that you qualify for institutional, merit-based scholarships.
“Black people DO gain something from being racist. Note the newly segregated “safe spaces” and segregated housing that have been installed on certain college campuses. The fact that you and many others think black people can’t be racist. And if this racism continues, it will just be flipped opposite from the 50’s and 60’s.”
For as long as white people hold power in the United States, you can’t have a “flipped” version of segregation in the 50s and 60s. Safe spaces aren’t something “gained” for minorities. Does it help us get equal pay? Does it help us have equal chances in schools, homes, jobs, etc? Safe spaces were originally created to show people they can be themselves without discrimination, but it has changed recently. I don’t think it is right to have these, but we don’t gain anything from it as a group in our society.
“Racism is a system based on the fact that for example black people, have had disadvantages both socially and politically based off of the race they were born into. We do not have a racist system, systematic racism doesn’t exist in todays western society, as ive explained above. Our system is set up to help minorities. We had a black president for 2 terms, we have black members in all areas of our government. The only thing stopping minorities from succeeding is themselves.” ““There are three things a person needs to do in order to not be poor in America. Finish high school, don’t have kids, and get a job. Although I would also argue that now, you also need a two-year degree but A very large percentage of black people do not finish high school, have kids at young ages, and depend on government assistance to sustain themselves. They family dynamic is broken down and the father rarely stays with the mother. If you don’t finish high school your chances of getting a good job are very slim. If you are a single parent you ARE going to struggle financially. Lets not forget the heavy crime in the black communities resulting from low income and low education”
Our system is still racist, not fully, but still. Especially with the Trump Administration. Yes, we had a black president for two terms out of how many other terms? 43. 2/43 terms is enough for you to say our system isn’t racist? The fact that it took so long for us to be able to even have a black president should be enough evidence because many have tried to run for the position before. Yes we have black people in our government, but how many? Whites have always had over half of the government positions. This is just in the executive branch. This last sentence is what really really bothers me. Me as a minority myself can’t even begin to wonder how it is to think that it’s so simple to succeed in life. I can not comprehend being able to have that kind of privilege. You truly think that the only thing stopping us is us. That the only reason we don’t succeed is because we don’t want to or we don’t try hard enough? Wow. Really I don’t even know what to say.
