Power in relationships should have to justify itself constantly IMO. And we should also reflect upon the power we hold. We should be aware of how we use it, how it changes, how it flips etc.

#thank you #this is one of the things my family did so incredibly right. parents can apologize and kids asking questions was always pushed. encouraged #curiosity into everything. learning for its own sake #treat everyone well and equally #middle finger to the photo of the sitting prick in office. photo on the fridge just so they could put a mocking caption on it #it’s why some people grow to dislike me from the start. i treat them kindly…but as my equals no matter what age and never defer ever #(ironically i’ll give older folks a bit of deference IF they come off as less wanting it. because then i feel more comfortable w them)#ppl hate that i don’t play their game of treating them as if there’s an invisible hierarchy while pretending there’s not and all is perfect #the best way to kill the problem to me is to just speak and act as if that expectation isn’t there. just disregard #this weird idea of power even infects the way they do everything. like even their smallest habits.#like to my family the TV was for openly talking over and discussing. and sarcastically mocking to its ‘face’ too. that was the point.#feels insane to go into the house of ppl who just sit and reverently stare in silence at it like it’s some sacred god #wtf is wrong with you lol! pick it apart do a running commentary!#but nooooo those ppl have fame and money! if something ended up on tv it Must be Justified and Good and Right #as decided by The Tastemakers who by god Must know what they’re talking about!#numbers mean it’s good right? ‘if a thing is famous/done by famous it’s bc ppl actually organically like it right? (not top-down)#and if it ends up shown to us it’s not because some ceo paid to promote their talentless nepo baby. no it must be actual talent #or it wouldn’t have been promoted right?#just…this level of real conformism of eating whatevers put on your plate w/o question #it’s all so Emperor’s New Clothes. of course his robe is beautiful! he’s the emperor! of course tswift is talented #so even basic shit like trying to have a normal convo and socialize w people makes me come off as rude #bc oh no i made a soft comment while the devil box was blaring. thought i was bantering to get to know ya better but they hate even that #all power at the heart of it and its so weird #power #relationships #hierarchy #conformism #whatever power does is justified bc it’s already power so let’s invent reasons backwards from there #if these ppl w more resources than me taking me in wanted to treat me like lesser than then theyre justified bc i’m some charity case to th #even the simplest like. act of trying to bond and befriend them as an equal was taken as an attack and offense
