While I think the current panic regarding ai art being like “theft” (as far as i can tell unless a weird new legal precedent is set what is being referred to as theft would not be considered infringement under US and probably EU copyright law) is probably the most notable instance of it, ive noticed a kind of lack of understanding with what exactly copyright does and does not protect, and how something being “protected” even works among internet communities (especially digital artists) for a while now.
