"Connie, I don't like this."
"I know."
Steven played with the little tutu-like ends of what he would dub the shortest skirt-like thing in the world. He wasn't all too into fashion, not even knowing where the majority of his clothes even came from, so he didn't know what it was called. Though it isn't really like he cared much about it, especially with what was going on. "This feels wrong."
"What does?"
"This!" Gesturing to himself, his voice raises a little. "I'm wearing my dead mom's, or at least a replica of my dead mom's, clothes! And using their memories of her against them!" He sighs. "I know I'm doing it for a reason and all, but it still feels so wrong in more ways than one. Like, disrespecting the dead kinda ways, and lying to people who are literally grieving over her ways." A shiver runs up his spine, and he clenches his hand over his gem. "But even if I do try and tell them the truth, they're in denial, they still think I'm Pink and call me Pink anyways." Steven looks drained. He's been on Homeworld for days now. Luckily, they've been supplying 'her pet' food from the Human Zoo. Steven hasn't had anything for those few days in Homeworld, because he's a gem. He doesn't need food. Except he's half organic, and his stomach has been giving him a hard time since day 3. At least what he thinks was his third day there. Homeworld's cycles were different to Earth, so he had no direct connection for time. Connie's phone had long ran out of battery now, so no luck there. In general, he was just in pretty bad shape with a sleeping scheduale so messed up, he probably switches from sleeping at the morning, noon and afternoon on the daily. Not like he could tell.
There wasn't usually much company in Pink's room- his room- other than the pebbles, Pearl and Connie. Though sometimes Pearl would have to leave, and Connie was taken somewhere else sometimes, usually to eat or maybe for something else. The pebbles where the only ones that never left. Even so, they still only came out when no one else was around. This left him feeling like he wanted some actual alone time, but at the same time not wanting to be without another friend to talk to, and the feelings conflicted.
Sometimes the diamonds visited him or called him with them when they weren't busy, mainly Blue. Honestly, she was the nicer one at the surface. Sometimes she even called him 'Steven'. Though she still things it as a silly little game, he appreciates that she sometimes 'plays along'. Her voice is always so soft. Especially her singing voice. Despite this, Blue has made Steven cry a lot, though that's mostly thanks to her powers to spread her sadness to others. Blue has been showing Steven a lot, like live feed of colonies while explaining what everything is and what everyone does, hoping it'd rejog 'her' memory of when she drilled 'her' on colonies. Nothing came to him, obviously, but she's still telling it to him anyways for future reference. Though he silently hopes that it'll be information he never has to use, he doesn't want to colonize anything. Luckily, he has a lot of time, since they're probably going to make sure he's 100% safe with many guards and stationing him with a colony nearer to one of hers. Not to mention it'll be centuries before they'd set him out with one anyways, at least he assumes. So he doesn't understand why Blue is telling him any of this.
In complete contrast to Blue, Yellow is not the emotional type. Sometimes she brings Steven into her area when she's working on a colony to show Steven what she does and how to know she's busy. He doesn't understand why Yellow shows him that stuff either, future reference probably. Though Yellow doesn't make him cry with any powers, she sure manages to make him tear up and bawl at the sight of fresh gem shards, something Blue never shows him and even makes a point to hide, or at least not include him. Steven was glad for that though, because he hated seeing gems shattered for the simplest mistake, especially when it's something that they change even control. Yellow can be pleasant though, sometimes.
Honestly, he could go on and on about the diamonds. Though all his rants are kept locked up in his head. Sometimes, he internally speaks for so long, he kind of zones out. Steven jumped at the sudden feeling of a hand on his leg. It's just Connie. "Everything will be alright, Steven. We've got this; you've got this. Even if they're in denial, I'm positive you can do it, you can make them see you for you, and you can make them see something better than this rule." Connie gives him a genuine smile, filled with hope and determination. Although small, it brings a smile to his face.
"Yea... Yea! We've got this!" Of course, Steven is forcing it through.
Connie opens her mouth to say something, a small chime interrupting her. "The diamond chime."
"What does it mean?" Connie wasn't around the other times it went off.
"A diamond, or their Pearl, is here. I think it's Blue." Pearl usually told him who it was, so he never bothered to memorize which chime belonged to which diamond, but she wasn't here right now. He vaguely remembered Yellow's though- being the first diamond chime he heard- and this sounded different to it. And low and behold, as the door opened, Blue Pearl stood in a salute.
"Pink Diamond, my diamond has requested your presence." Blue Pearl's voice was always so calm.
"Can Connie come too?"
"My apologies, but no, Pink Diamond. Once you have arrived to my Diamond, your pet will be escorted somewhere else until your return." This made Steven uncomfortable, but he couldn't protest, since Blue probably told her Pearl that Connie couldn't come. A small sigh escapes him before he could bite it back.
"C'mon Connie, let's go." And just like that, he looked dry and dead again. He follow Blue Pearl and occasionally whispers to Connie until they depart.
