i found mlp:fim on netflix with korean audio..!! so i watched a few eps... kor listening practice... and the kr dub is honestly p good!! all the voices were decent to good... rainbow dash's voice is my fav, she sounded so cute🥹🥹 ok here's my rating:
1. rainbow dash: cute, boyish, raspy like the og, kind of pouty sound when she complains, it was rly cute... just as good or even better than og (btw same VA as mala sauce cookie in crk)🥺 i liked all her deliveries... adowable...
2. apple jack: doesnt have the southern accent like the og ofc but she has a cute deeper boyish voice so i liked it lol
3. pinkie pie: the og pinkie pie is the best, but her VA did a rly good job, she def sounds accurate to pinkie pie!! cute i love pinkie... singing wasnt as good as og but like good enough
4. rarity: her VA did a good job!! its rly hard to beat her og voice but i think her VA did a rly good job w the dramatic acting, i think it was v fitting/accurate
+ spike: sounded cute! not much to say but i liked his voice better than the og tbh
5. twilight: good enough! her voice is v recognizable to me (parfait cookie VA) but I liked that it sounded diff from the og voice, gave a diff sound to the mc. She did a good job but just not my fav voice
+ celestia: good enough! deep and did sound fitting to a queen-like chara, but i like her og voice better... her VA has sm range tho (same va as gingerbrave lol)
6. fluttershy: again, good enough! i just think she didnt sound as cute as the og and some of the delivery didnt hit as hard(like the yelling/angry parts)🥺 i think the VA did a pretty good job but for ex. i could picture other VAs sounding more fitting... (like white lily or pumpkin pie VA)
#random post#overall its enjoyable enough that i wouldnt mind watching more eps in kr dub#in fact i think its rly well done overal#i hated the kids voices tho (uhh i forgot their names but apple bloom etc#but main 6 voices r all good and accurate enough#would watch more just for RD tbh she sounds so cute#also some of the side chara voices were good like i only watched a few eps but they were fun#like i watched the gala ep and the asshole prince's voice was good LOL

Hi! I really adore your last headcanon, so I was wondering if you can write about how the MC could comfort the main 6? in the situations that you prefer! :)
Hi! Thank you for requesting sorry again for the confusion! Hopefully this is what you had in mind!
Request R Open!!! :^)
Mc comforting the main six!
Tw(?):
Descriptions of mental breakdowns, anxiety/panick attacks, depression, anxiety, etc,,, (based off my own experience, so may not be too accurate just read at risk!)
Asra
I’ve said it before I’ll say it again, I’ll say it a million times, trauma doesn’t go away over night. Asra will always ponder about what he did that masquerade, what happened to you at the lazaret. No matter what happens in your relationship, it’s just a reoccurring thought that won’t go away, no matter how much he tries.
As much as he tries to forget, as much as he wants to forget, those nasty memories keep sneaking up on him, toying with his mind, forcing him to go into a downward spiral of hurt and regret that he can’t escape
He always tries to hide it from you. He tried to play it off like nothings wrong, that he’s just having a bad day, which can turn into weeks, which can turn into months....and it’s not like he likes keeping things from you, it’s just everytime he tries to tell you, he’s flashed with memories of you catonic, unresponsive in the shop,,,what if that happens again? He can’t risk it, even though it won’t, he doesn’t want to risk it. He won’t
When you finally do break him, he’s shattered glass. Crying and spilling out everything that’s been bothering him for the last- god knows how long,,,the only thing you can do is to be there with him. Take him in your arms. Hold him. Tight. Tell him you’re not going anywhere, that you’re here now, and that’s all that matters, that the past is in the past, and it’s already set in stone, that you both need to look forward for the future.
When he’s calmed down enough, carry him (and if your mc can’t carry him then drag him) to bed. Wrap him up in as many blankets as you can find. Tell Faust to go cuddle with him while you make him his faveroite calming tea blend. Then cuddle in bed and talk about the future, what it has in store for the both of you. Or reminisce on the past, the good things, what you can remember or can’t, and everytime he tells you a story of something that did happen? You can feel a tug on your heart. You don’t need reassurance. You both end up falling asleep in each others arms, Faust curled up in ball laying on top of each of you. And when you wake up? Everything seems perfect
Nadia
She’s been trying to fix vesuvia for months, maybe even years now (that depends on your time line!) trying to erase it of al, of Lucios past mistakes. Fixing the flooded district, fixing the judicial system, tearing down the coliseum, getting rid of all those tacky statues it’s a lot.
She often worries that she could of done more when lucio was in charge, but an end to things, fix things, be more than a stupid trophy wife, an accessory for him to have around his stupid gold arm, these thoughts will swarm and swarm in her head, making them her new priority, causing her to overwork and exhaust herself trying to fix ‘her’ late husbands’s past mistakes .
Her motto is fake it till you make it, pushing through her inner pain, holding her head high, walking with much more pristine posture than before, working on one project then the next, leaving them all slightly unfinished because she’s much too eager to work on the next one, to fix the next one
You walk into you’re shared bedroom one afternoon, only to see her sobbing at her desk, you could tell something was wrong for a while now, you just couldnt seem to put your finger on it till now. But now that you see her crying at her desk, unaware that you have even walked in, the sounds of her sobs drumming over your footsteps as you make to her desk, and engulf her in your arms, you know exactly what happened. She doesn’t even try to pull away, if anything she pulls you closer, burying her face in your neck, clingy on to you like her life depends on it, for once she isn’t alone
The second you calm her down enough, you drag her to the bed, and the two of you just lay there as she tells you everything. You run your fingers gently through her hair, over her face, her arms, letting her know she’s not alone, let her know that she doesn’t have to do this alone, that you’re there to help her, alongside almost all of vesuvia. After she’s calm and collected, she asks you to help her fix her makeup, and the two of you make a game plan on how you want to fix vesuvia. Together
Julian
They keep him awake at night. His past mistakes. They’re like little voices that swarm in his head. Espically at night. “You could of saved them” “you should of found a cure” “you could of found a cure, if you were working hard enough” “Mc died because of you.” “ you’re not working hard enough. “Because you weren’t there” “you’ve never worked hard enough” “you could of saved them” “you will never be enough”
They don’t come as often as they used to. But when they do come, they’re enough to turn his world upside down. He wants to beleive they’re not true, but it’s hard not to beleive what you’re head is telling you, even when your heart knows it’s wrong. This (like Nadia) cause him to work harder. He has to make up for those past mistakes. He has to make that voice. That voice that’s stuck in the back of his head like a catchy song. To stop. To go away. Once and for all.
He’s been coming home late from the office every day, and going in early, you can swear he doesn’t sleep at all, but how would you know, you haven’t seen him in the last 3 days. You swore one time in the middle of the night, when you awoke from the sound of something breaking, you saw Julian hunched over a desk, wiping coffee off himself, telling you to go back to sleep, if you were to ask him about it, he’d swear you were just dreaming. But it felt a little to real to be a dream.
You awake again one night, well early morning, to be exact. To early. To the sounds of Julian wailing at his desk, calling him self names, saying he should of done better, when you tap him on his shoulder to see if he’s okay, he accidentally slaps you in the face out of shock (he thought you were a intruder at first) he pulls you into his arms, sitting you in his lap, and starts to examine your face, the only source of light being a candle that’s almost out, but when you tell him you’re fine, that you’re much more worried about him, he breaks. You shouldn’t be worried about him. He doesn’t deserve to be worried about. Now go back to bed.
But you stay put, in his lap, and he by all means isn’t going to push you off of him. So you sit there and hold him. You let him cry it out. Telling him he is worthy, and his past mistakes don’t define who he is today, “besides Ilya everyone makes mistakes, even me” when he’s done, talk about your mistakes, and how they made you into the person you are today, how everything always worked out, you’ll laugh and cry it out together, and by late sunrise, the two of you are in the kitchen munching on some toast (or anything else that you prefer). And in a way, it’s kind of bitter sweet. If asra never were to leave, and if Julian never ignored you, both being leading causes to your death, you wouldn’t be catching the end of the sun rising with your beloved.
Portia
(Portia doesn’t have any underlying lore that we know about as of now, so this one isn’t going to be as good as the other three, not that I don’t love her because she’s one of my favorites trust me I just don’t have much to go off of! So that being said, I will be basing this off of assumptions of her character being that she doesn’t have some big tragic back story like the rest of the cast (again that we know of) Sorry, I hope you understand Portia stans)
What if she’s not good enough, she’s always working, it’s as if she’s trying to prove herself, but to who? Everyone in the palace knows her, they all appreciate her, the guards, the chefs, the other servants, Nadia, hell, even the consul, and lets not forget about you of course, so what’s pushing her so hard?
To be honest, it’s hard to live a normal life when your constantly getting compared to your brother, but not by other people of course! (*looks at camera like in the office*) by herself, constantly telling herself that she needs to be up to his standards, in her own little away. She wants to be more than Julians little sister.
This want- no not want this Need comes and goes, but when it comes, it lasts for a while, until she’s burnt out under a pile of pillows and blankets, sobbing into a bowl of ice cream, or until she does something she deems worthy, like the time you and her (*enter portias upright ending here*) she wants to do that again, why can’t she do something like that again so instead she works. She works until she can’t work anymore, and it breaks your heart.
You and Nadia converse a plan, and within minutes your dragging Portia out of the palace you can have a spa day at a natural hotspring, just the two of you, and as soon as your alone, she starts to tear up. She forgot how nice it felt to be like this, alone with you, with out the stress of work, without the little comparisons ringing in her head. It feels nice. This feels nice. No not nice. Right. This feels right. Then she remembers she can do one thing that Julian can’t do: relax
She ends up telling you everything in the form of an angry rant, and you listen and let her curse out her idiot brother as much as she needs, she deserves it. When she’s done, you remind her of all the wild things the two of you did together, (I’ll leave this for you to decide :) ) reminding her that Julian has never done anything as crazy as that, and then she smiles, a real genuine smile as she remembers that she is more than julians little sister.
Muriel
It’s always the same nightmares. No matter how long it’s been, how much he’s grown, how much he loves you, and understands that you love him ‘more’ (much to his surprise) he can’t change the past, or make his PTSD magically disappear (he’s tried) he still has blood on his hands that he can’t wash off, just a little bit under his nails. Between his fingers. But you can hardly notice it. And so can he.
Sometimes when he’s having a particular bad day, he can still hear them. The screams. From the crowd. From the victim. From lucio. He wants nothing more than to drown them out, so he’ll spend hours and hours listening to your voice, it’s much prettier anyways. But on the days your at the shop, or at the market with a friend, leaving him all alone....the screams get louder
He knows he can’t keep spending every second of every day with you, he knows how unhealthy that is. But sometimes he needs you, he wants you there with him, but is he alowed to want that? But they just keep getting louder. But he doesn’t want to bother you at the palace. You have important business to attend to he understands that. But they won’t stop. But you should be home soon, just three hours and forty minutes left he can wait it out ButThey’reTooLoud help
When you get back to the hut, after whatever errand you were running. Muriel is sitting in the far corner of the hut. His knees to his chest his hands over his ears, slowly rocking himself back and forth muttering something under his breath, you have to practically tell his name to get him to acknowledge, and when he finally lifts his head up, you’re meet with glassy green eyes, tears falling down his cheek no matter how hard he tries to stop them, and you run into his arms, holding him tighter than ever before, whispering that it’s going to be okay, telling him he’s not a murder. He didn’t even need to tell you. You just knew.
You knew. You knew something was wrong and you came back early for him. You’re here in his arms, crying with him, you came back to him, you’re telling him that he’s good, and he doesn’t understand why,but then he remembers that you love him for who he is now, not because of your past, it just took him a minute to remember (or to listen to you telling him it over and over) then instead of you wiping his tears away, he’s wiping yours away. Thanking you for coming back to him. And from now on, if he ever hears the screams, he comes with you, and then they seem to slowly go away.
Lucio
He’s changed a lot he really has, he’s starting to care about people! Wow I know shocker- but with caring for people comes a big responsibility. Guilt. He’s felt guilt before, he’s not a complete sociopath just in very small portions. Very. Small. Portions.
He’s starting to feel bad for what he did, he starting to feel bad for all the people He. Killed. Not on purpose of course....but they’re still dead....and them there’s you....oh god what has he done. Whathashedonewhathashedonewhathashwdonewhathashedone- he doesn’t want to think about it. He tries not to. I mean who would want to think of dead people amiright? But he still does. And everytime he does it hurts a little more. He hates it.
It’s starting to keep him up at night too. All he wants to do is cuddle with you and his babies (his dogs-of course) but he can’t even bring himself to do that so he just lays there. Staring at the ceiling. Or at the portrait of the two of you, a new replacement of his old one. It reminds him of when he had the plague. He hates it even more now
He hasn’t been acting like himself lately, and when you catch him dissociating in a random hallway, staring off into outer space, then you know something is wrong. The minute you snap him out of it. When you ask him if he’s okay. He breaks down crying. No matter where he is, or who’s in the hallway with him. So you just stand there and hold him. You tell him it’s okay and what he’s feeling is normal. But His chest hurts. He feels like he can’t breathe. Like when he had the plague. God he hates this feeling so much
You eventually calm him down enough to take him to his room, when you get there, there is already water, and a damp towel that you put on his forehead. He’s practicing his breathing, trying to calm down as you gently coach him through it, he’s holding on to you’re free hand tight. Grounding himself. Enjoying your presence. “This is normal right? Normal people feel this kind of stuff?” “Yes lucio, it’s called guilt. Or in your case a panick attack” “ oh. Well I hate it and I hope I never have to feel ~guilt~ or whatever it’s called again.” But he does. But with your presence next to his. Comforting him. It gets better. Slowly. But surely.
Hi! Thanks for reading! Hopefully that wasn’t to dark for anyone, I was just having a bad night so it was good to be able to put all my negativity out onto something!

MAY 2018
ONLY MOMENTS AFTER squeezing out of the church we were back in the car, climbing the steep hill toward the 3 large, red brick buildings. As we came to a stop in front them I took a look around. Gone were the easy, worn grassy pathways that had made it easy to walk right up to each entrance just 2 months earlier. In their place was thick, invasive Kudzu. Anyone from the South is familiar with Kudzu. Green & leafy, it spreads like wild fire, smothering EVERYTHING in its path. NOTHING was safe from its wrath. The brick walls of the dorms & the little cottage, that I now believed to be the dining facility for the North Campus, weren’t any exception.
OUT OF THE three, the middle building seemed like the best one to start with. I stood at the edge dreading the thought of having to take even one step into that green abyss!
I RAN MY really awesome, extendable hot dog roaster through some of it just to see if anything jumped out & even though nothing attacked me, I still wasn’t convinced that imminent death wasn’t waiting underneath, so I did something even dumber…”Hey Google, Do Snakes Live In Kudzu?” I wasn’t ready for the answer I got!
WELL ”F” YOU Google…You Shame Me! I stood there scowling, trying to work up the balls to just go. I even attempted to figure out how many times I would actually have to put either foot on the ground. If I just ran super fast I…E passed by me & was nearly to the front patio area by the time I even realized she was gone! I mean she almost danced through the crap…Show off! Well, here goes nothing! I booked it, not stopping for anything OR anyone & it went pretty good…Until the front of both feet connected with something solid, almost sending me sprawling flat on my face into the thick vines! Thank God I was able to catch my balance before I had a chance to hit the ground! WTF??? I stepped up on the invisible killer & looked down. A freaking tree trunk…REALLY? Where were you on that one my little Dancing Queen?? I was at least able to avoid having to step back into the death trap by jumping from my new platform to the concrete slab at the entrance.
SO WE MADE it inside…ALIVE…FINALLY! I was already wishing we had more time but I knew the clock was ticking. The main area of the dorm building was exactly as I remembered it, dark, decayed & littered with the metal bunk beds & other furniture everywhere. The floor was wet & some of the beds were now flipped over on there sides. We didn’t have the early spring, late afternoon light giving the room the glow that it had back in that 1st weekend in March; The weather wasn’t going to grant us that. We would have to rely on our flashlights to light the way. At least they were decent flashlights!
THE STAIRS TO NOWHERE
WE DID OUR usual routine without either of us having to even tell the other. I went one direction while E went another, every once in awhile one of us would call out “Hey, look at this!” OR “Did you see that?” but we mostly wandered around silently, with the sound of the water dripping onto the concrete floor, echoing through the room eerily. At one point I noticed E climbing a steep staircase on the opposite side of the room. WTH was that? I know it’s not saying much but I hadn’t noticed it the last time. I wandered over & looked up as she climbed to the top. And then I saw the whole picture. The steps were wedged between the outer brick wall of the dorm & an inner wall separating it from the room. As you looked up that inner wall, you could see 2 rectangular openings with rusted gratings in each. There was also a heavy metal door with a lock & another similar rusty grated “window” toward the top. E turned around & yelled from the top “There’s another room up here but you can’t get to it!” She came back down & headed out of the room, disappearing down the back hallway. Instead of following I made my way to the other side of the room & found a matching stairway. I had made it about half way up when she came back & her voice echoed through the room as she said “Do NOT try to go into that room!” I rolled my eyes at the fact that she knows me that well. I swear that she heard me because as I listened to her exiting the room again I heard her say “DON’T!” “It never crossed my mind” I mumbled. Well it didn’t…OK, it did but ONLY for a minute!
WHAT I DID do was climb the steps to the top & pushed open the door, that was already ajar. Then kneeling on the stone steps, I leaned in as far as I could & snapped a few pics. Funny, I never really looked at them until I started writing this post. I also gave the room a good look just to see if there was even the slightest possibility of being able to get in there. It was just as messed up as everywhere else we’ve been! Maybe if I crawled & didn’t put my full body weight I could…Nope, NOT gonna try it! The last thing I needed was to fall through a rotting ceiling & land on the nasty concrete floor OR worse, having a metal bunk bed break my fall & impale me! I don’t know what would have been worse…Dying in that place due to stupidity OR having the Bestie stand over my bleeding body telling me what an idiot l am! I decided to forgo either scenario & turned to go back down the steps. And I don’t really care what was carved into that door at the top of the steps…Being up their & trying to climb back down those steep steps certainly did NOT kick ass!
A Quick Peek…
IT WAS ON the way back down that I looked out one of those rusty, grated windows & immediately regretted doing so. In my mind I saw a brief flash & instantly knew what they were. The Dozier guards would shut the heavy metal doors at the foot of the stairs & could stand at the top OR midway down, checking to make sure the boys were in bed without having to actually enter the room. In theory it makes perfect sense. Unfortunately, knowing what I know, that’s NOT the picture that I got in my mind. The flash I got as I snapped a pic, was of a wolf looking down on a flock of sheep, deciding which one he would prey upon. It made me nauseous & for the 1st time EVER I felt the need to get out of that stairway…FAST! How many boys had been snatched in the night by one of the wolves? How many were still out there, buried in an unmarked graves on Dozier land, waiting to be found…Waiting to go home.
DURING THIS TRIP I had NO idea exactly how many boys were unaccounted for. Today as I write this I can say that there are close to 200…At least the ones tnat I know about! I’m not saying that this means every one of them are buried here BUT given the history I’ll leave everyone to draw their own conclusions.
BUT WHERE ARE THE HEADSTONES?
WE LEFT THE 1st dorm but held off on going into the 2nd just to take a breather for a few minutes. We walked the dirt path, now entirely taken over by Kudzu, turning between the dorms & the dining hall. The woods were very thick in this area, so the possibility of hiking through would be slim to none, especially this late in the day. As we walked to where the path dead ended at yet another chain link fence, I looked to my left & said “If my research is accurate, Boothill Cemetery would be on the other side of those woods.” I was pretty sure of this BUT if Boothill sits inside of those woods, where did the grave markers go?
Original Cement Crosses (circa 1961)
Original Crosses Found Discarded In Dozier Woods ~ 2009
Replacement Crosses (circa 1996)
1996 Crosses in 2013-14
THIS WOULD BE yet another question that I worried about never really having a complete answer to. Though I’d eventually find a partial answer 6 months later….
MIRROR, MIRROR ON THE…WAIT, IS THAT A BOY?
IT WAS STARTING to drizzle again & it was getting darker, so if we were going to get into that last dorm, we had to do it soon. We walked back & basically went through the same routine (minus the Google search!) & were soon standing inside. The set up was similar, although it had way less furniture. There were more beds, some flipped over on their sides. I started looking at the overturned beds & noticed several things about them…1) They each had a metal footlocker at the bottom & 2) There were numbered tags on each.
THE TAGS WERE filthy, ripped & most were peeling off the metal around the edges. Almost all of them were legible, making it easy to snag a few. It took a minute to carefully pull each off but when I finally got each one, I held it flat in my hand. They felt the same way a wet sticker felt after you take it off your shirt & the adhesive side gets dirty. They were also extremely brittle, literally disintegrating in my hands! I quickly & gently placed them inside of a plastic bag, sealed it & put it inside of my backpack. I still have them, in their bag, to this day. I then went through the back door into a narrow hallway to search for the Bestie. It didn’t take long to find her; She was standing at one end of the hall looking into what I assumed was a closet. She quickly pointed out that it definitely was NOT just a closet. I walked over to see & it was clear why she was disturbed…The little “closet” was more like a solitary confinement room! Although it would barely be big enough for more than 1 person, it had a light fixture hanging from the ceiling & its most disturbing feature was that the “closet” had a lock on it…And it locked from the outside.
A Closet OR Something More Sinister?
THERE WAS NO end to the horror show that this place had to offer. There also seemed to be NO end to the building itself. Everywhere we turned, there was another room, hallway OR “closet” to look at. After heading around a corner, I landed myself inside of the dorm bathroom. Like the rest of the building, the walls of this area were brick. The floor was also filled with, thick, muddy water due to the roof that had collapsed in several areas. Thank God for rain boots because the sludge was almost ankle deep in spots! The 1st thing I saw were the filthy porcelain sinks. They were screwed into the brick wall, lined up in a row. I stood & faced them & then headed to my right where a brick wall divided the sinks from a row of toilets that were full of water & leaves. Above them the roof was gone with wood beams hanging.
ON EITHER SIDE of the sinks were small brick enclosures with openings at the front. I stepped in not knowing what they were. Looking around there wasn’t anything really to look at. Other than the walls, there was nothing inside. I was stepping out & happened to glance up to check out the condition of the ceiling…that’s when I saw it; I should say “them” as there was more than one. They were shower heads coming out of the ceiling. Apparently I was standing inside of one of the group showers.
I STEPPED OVER the lip of the shower & looking across the room I saw something that stood out as being oddly placed. It was a blue framed mirror attached to the wall but its positioning felt off. I stood in front of it & as I stared at my reflection I swear I felt movement behind me, it felt like a whisper but when I turned, I didn’t see anything. I decided to take a couple of pics of it & then turned to leave the area. But I couldn’t shake this nagging feeling that there was something about that mirror….
“MY MIRROR”
I WOULDN’T KNOW What that nagging feeling was until after we were home…As I took that pick of the mirror, apparently I was being watched by something that appeared to be a small boy. peaking out from around the brick shower wall. It was jarring to say the least.
A Closer Look…
WHAT I CAPTURED in that photo would be confirmed on a late summer day. You see, when comparing the boy from my pic to dozens of archive photos of the boys at Dozier, the general look of the boy I saw possibly matched the look of the boys serving sentences in the 50’s & 60’s. There are several names that came to mind but I’ll never be sure.
A Possible Match??
NOW HIS MESSAGE is a different story. I wholeheartedly believe that he was there to offer confirmation that there are still boys buried at the school but I think he was saying more than that; Just look at the position of the mirror in that bathroom & what you can easily see in its reflection…
A Chilling Reality…
NEWER DOES NOT EQUAL BETTER
OBVIOUSLY I HAD no idea of what I had caught on film at the time, so I decided to use the few remaining minutes we had to see what was further back in the building. On my way, I met up with E who was starting to feel uneasy. To be honest, she had made it very clear from our 1st step inside that she didn’t like this building. Now that twilight Was upon us, she just wanted to get the Hell out of there. I told her that I was heading toward the back of the building to look at the last of the rooms. She, however, would NOT be going with me & said as much as she started back toward the front. It was really dark & of course my phone was dying rapidly. It only took me a minute to reach the final room (At least that I know of!) & in that minute it became cave like….Dark, damp & musty. The door to the room was missing from the frame, propped up against a wall inside the room. The only sound that could be heard was the constant dripping of water echoing throughout the dorm. The room looked like another sleeping area as there were a number of beds crowding the space. Up against the far wall I could see what looked like lockers OR storage for personal items.
THE ODD THING was that even though the room itself was utter chaos, a majority of the stuff in it was in decent shape. Maybe being tucked away in the back of the building had offered enough protection from the elements but seeing the posters for more “current” bands like Metallica made it just as likely that this particular area hadn’t been used for as long as the others. Either way it didn’t really matter as it still had the markings of the children who had once been there.
IN THE END there was just way too much stuff strewn around the room for me to go inside, especially with it being so dark. Before heading back to the front, I stood in the doorway & used what little battery power to snap a few pics.
I WASN’T ABLE to use the flash so while you can make out a majority of the items inside, the quality isn’t great. I’m not too disappointed though because at least I got something!
IT AIN’T A PARTY TIL SOMEONE FREAKS OUT!!
FEELING MORE ACCOMPLISHED than I had ever imagined I would, I made my way to where we had started from & E was still inside looking around although she was definitely looking more & more unsettled by the minute. Since we had pretty much reached the end of the road for this trip, I was lingering, trying to take everything I could in & make sure that I didn’t miss ANYTHING! It was then that I realized how quiet it had gotten. Even the dripping had ceased. I had just turned to ask E if she noticed the sudden lack of sound & that’s when it happened…3 loud banging noises, almost like knocks, echoed through the building! It was so loud that I swear you could feel the floor vibrate & see the walls shake! Before the banging stop we both looked at each other & I just yelled one word…”GO!!!” We both took off running, not caring about having to get through the Kudzu & NOT taking even a millisecond to look back. We didn’t glance at the building we’d just hauled ass out of until we were back at the car. We were out of breath & unfortunately out of time…But E did manage to hang on to another school brick during our escape!
Bye Felicia!
I Guess I Took A “Running For My Life” Selfie!
I WASN’T SURE what E thought the banging was from but I had actually thought the building was coming down…That’s how loud it was! When we did give the dorm another look, it appeared in one piece, standing silently in the evening light. I was sad & didn’t want to say goodbye again…With every visit, I had to prepare myself for the reality that it could be the last time I’d be able to stand on the campus, explore its buildings & still find evidence of what had been preserved inside the crumbling walls.
AS WE PULLED away that Sunday, at the end of May, I had NO idea what was to come & NO clue just how close we’d be to losing everything….

8 Journalism Concepts to Drive Better Engagement
More and more these days, I find myself searching for “The Magic X.” “The Magic X,” of course, is the fastest way for me to skip all of the useless & irritating things that pop up and get between me and the content I came here to consume. To an advertiser, this is obviously unwanted behavior. But to the content marketer, this could be exactly the behavior you should hope your reader is doing every time they come to your site. But how do you make content that the consumer actually wants to read? The answer is simple and may have been around for generations before “The Magic X” ever existed. That answer is to create the content that your reader is trying to find in the first place.
Nobody knows how to produce quality content that readers actually want to read more than journalists. For years, journalists have been crafting stories—in newspapers, magazines, television, and the internet—that readers actually want to see. So what can the successful content marketer learn from journalists? It’s easy: learn how to tell a good story.
As a former journalist, I’ve put together a list of eight journalism concepts that every content marketer can learn from the age-old craft of telling good stories.
1. Be Relevant and Useful to Your Audience
Business Week writes to business people. Sports Illustrated writes to sports fans. Vanity Fair writes to the vain (just kidding). Journalists write stories that are of public interest and public service. Likewise, your content should be of interest to your readers and provide them value. Serve readers first and yourself second. Readers and search engines can see right through content that is self-serving and not pertinent to your audience.
2. Simplify
Complicated words and complex phrases can confuse your reader. Keep it simple, easy-to-read, and avoid too much unnecessary jargon, without sacrificing your voice as an authority in your field. The greater the complexity, the higher you set the bar, and that means potentially alienating readers. Strike a balance between finding the lowest common denominator and dumbing down your article to the point it is no longer useful.
3. Stories Can Be Told Many Different Ways
Your readers are complex and unique individuals who consume information in different ways. Therefore the more ways you can meet those needs and preferences, the broader your audience base will be. Interesting copy, compelling photography, engaging videos, and informative podcasts are the types of content you can provide.
Keep in mind though that you must use different tools for different jobs. Understand each medium’s strengths and weaknesses and aim to provide the right content on the right platform. For example, dense, long-form copy might not hold a reader’s attention for long, but that same information could be much more easily and passively digested in the form of a more casual, one-hour podcast instead. The why informs the how.
4. Don’t Bury the Lead
While marketing strategy often tries to keep the reader on the site as long as possible, don’t forget to put the reader’s needs and desires first. Burying the lead can frustrate a reader looking for you to “get to the point” and in this age of short attention spans, that could quickly lead to lost readership.
Think of your story like a three-course meal. The appetizer should do just that: appetize. It shouldn’t leave them sated, nor deprive them of what they came for, but rather excite the reader and leave them wanting more. We call this the inverted pyramid style. Start with the big picture (appetizer), fill out the details (main course), then provide background and context to understand why it’s relevant (dessert). Your job as a storyteller is to intrigue the reader. Open with an interesting premise and the important facts so that they will be compelled to read on. Your content is worthless if nobody is reading it.
5. Work Your Angles
Stories are rarely one-dimensional, and while it serves to be thorough, breaking down the many facets of your story works both to simplify, and give you more potential content without becoming repetitive. Learn to look at your story from different perspectives. Why does this matter, not only to your reader but your reader’s customers, managers, and subordinates? What will make this relevant and useful to them? Look at ways you can tell the story from an analytical angle, but ask yourself how you can flip that same story and address a more human interest angle. Your readers are humans with feelings and experiences, as well as being professionals in their respective fields. Give them something to relate to, someone to root for in one story, and data and numbers and concepts in another.
6. Seek the Truth and Report It
Accuracy is key. Be extremely careful not to misquote your sources to neatly fit words to a different context for the sake of convenience, but try and get your sources to speak directly to the topic you are addressing. Spell names correctly, give people their proper titles, and let no fact be called into doubt. You have a responsibility to represent your sources with the utmost respect and accuracy while still telling a good story. Statistics should be cited, and news stories should be linked to, leaving no room for a reader to question how you came to the conclusion that you assert.
7. Be Curious
Journalists are rarely subject matter experts in a vast majority of topics that they write about. Likewise, when you find that you lack the necessary credentials to speak about a topic, go find someone who does. Ask them all of the questions that your readers are likely to ask themselves. But get it in their own words. If there’s something you don’t know about a topic, chances are some of your readers will not know them either. This gives you an opportunity to seek out those answers and give your readers some new information, useful tips, and interesting facts. Doing this helps to expand the pool of content you can write about, without sacrificing your authority as a source of reliable information.
8. Be Timely
Journalists often report both on trends and unusual occurrences in a given subject, and both are uniquely tied to the times. An analysis of industry trends from 1998 when the internet had yet to reach ubiquity is not relevant to an industry insider of 2018. This is an increasingly important point, given the rapid turnover of popular applications and websites and the constantly changing climates and attitudes toward certain industries.
Be careful about falling for the trap of being the first at the expense of being right. Being first is great, but being accurate is still the number one concern of any good journalist. This requires being deeply attuned to a certain topic or industry, but also far enough back to observe (or at least be aware of) the big picture as it shifts and evolves. It also requires that you be diligent and obsessed with ensuring that what you’re reporting is the truth.
Brand Journalism Defined
The key to being a trusted source of information is to be as impartial as possible. Sometimes that idea seems to run counter to the goals of a marketer, but if you can establish yourself as a credible & realistic storyteller, you can ensure that your readers will continue to trust you as a source of reliable content, rather than someone simply trying to push an agenda or sell a product. Transparency and a commitment to avoiding the perception of bias help to establish you as both a thought leader and a source of trustworthy information.
This doesn’t mean you need to be crediting your competitors for whatever they’ve done right. It means avoiding leaving your readers with the impression that your brand is above reproach. Making light of one’s own mistakes is a great way to provide useful anecdotal information while still giving the impression that your company is, in fact, built upon people, and people are by nature fallible.

This Week in Ontario Edublogs
One week down, how many more to go?
The best thing is that the heat has eased up making the classroom experience bearable. I hope that everyone had a terrific first week. It’s time to take a look at my weekly collection from around the province.
The Christie Lake Climb for Kids
There were a couple of posts about this climb from Heather Swail and Paul McGuire. They landed at the same time and talk about this terrific activity and fun raiser. What struck me was how they were about the same thing but, due to the writing styles of Heather and Paul, they came across completely differently.
As Heather said on Twitter…
@stephen_Hurley @dougpete@mcguirp Thanks for your review of our blogs and your kind, generous words. Two very differently-styled blogs and two very profound experiences. Still processing! Thanks/

Climb for Kids – Linking People, Adventure and a Great Cause
From Paul McGuire, a post about everything that you’d probably ever want to know about the climb. All kinds of links are available so that you can learn about the nuts and bolts of making it happen and how it did. There are some wonderful pictures to complete the story. I’m really impressed with the “chain” of climbers people.
It’s a real keeper, Paul.
Trust
This is a link to Heather’s post. I read an article recently that said that “skimming is the new reading”. I know that it’s a routine for me plus I took a speed reading course once that teaches you how to read quickly.
But, I couldn’t skim or speed read Heather’s post when I first took a look at it.
it was really engaging. I wanted to devour it right from the start
she obviously took the time to write this post as a short story using all kinds of writing conventions. These conventions made speed reading impossible.
Interestingly, I think if you only read one of these posts, you’re missing out. Because of their style and content, you need to read both to fully understand.
And, the best part was raising $25 000 for their charity in the process.
Social Issues in Ontario will always have a home in English Class!
If anyone ever questions that the teaching is a profession guided by the professional judgement of an educator, you need to send them to Kyleen Gray’s post. We know that Ontario Health and Physical Education has taken the brunt of a great deal of attacks this summer.
Kyleen reminds us that other subject areas are equally as fitting ways to address issues of the day. She uses the word “vague”, but in a good way, as a way to describe the license given to English teachers to determine classroom activities.
Articles of the Week
Persuasive Writing and Speaking
Independent Reading
Journal Writing
Media Trend Analysis and Infographic
In one sentence, she lends this advice…
Use the English Curriculum to your Advantage!
This was the first time I’ve read and included Kyleen’s blog on TWIOE. I’m looking for much more in the future.
Great podcast! I enjoyed listening to your reflections and questions about all of the blogs you featured.

5 Things To Do On The First Day Of School
Well, maybe the timing isn’t right but this post from Matthew Morris could serve as a checklist for the future or, perhaps, that you did things well on Tuesday.
Or, if you get “re-organized” because of student numbers, you may get a do-over with a second set of students.
Here is his list of things
The Name Game
Let your students pick their own seats
Get your students up and moving around the room
Share stories, orally!
Your Core Rules
These are good pieces of advice, particularly the last one. I remember advice given to me once…
If you’re going to play by the rules, you have to play by all the rules
So, how many are “all” the rules? I would suggest it should be enough to get the job done but not so many that you’re activity policing everything all day long. There will be those that are indeed “core” but a little latitude given in other areas can result in amazing things, not previously predicted.
Dessert vs. Main Course
I’ve seen these terms used interchangeably.
Projects
Project Based Learning
When done that way, obviously the speaker or writer isn’t up to speed.
They need to read this post from Jamie Mitchell.
TLDR; it boils down to where the learning takes place.
But, click through and enjoy a good discussion. You’ll either feel confirmed or be inspired to change your practice.
Podcasts
This is a term that is used in a number of ways and Stephen Hurley and I talked about it on This Week in Ontario Edublogs and Diana Maliszewski was listening.
I’m going to have to correct the name of that blog post and switch it to “podcasts and broadcasts” (listening to @Stephen_Hurley & @dougpete) to accurately reflect my @voicEdcanada TWiOE experience!
— Diana Maliszewski (@MzMollyTL) September 6, 2018
Whatever you call it, Diana did three of them last week.
I was honoured that she agreed to come on to This Week in Ontario Edublogs as the last of a summer of guests.
She also did some work on Library Land Loves and I Wish I Knew Edu: Looking Back and Learning Forward.
The second two were recorded and may be edited and then broadcast in the future. TWIOE is done live; there are no do-overs. But, the recording is available for download just as a traditional podcast.
While the concepts are the same (you’re speaking to your computer and hope that nobody is watching), the organization behind each is different. Diana nicely describes the three approaches in her post. If you’re interested in podcasting or live broadcasting, this is good reading.
voicEd Radio: Building a Multi-Lane Highway on the Education Landscape
Who doesn’t think of the 401 when you read this title? They seem to be building and reconstructing forever over this past summer.
Using the analogy of building capacity, Stephen Hurley shares with us his vision for voicEd Radio in the future.
I like that he’s actively looking for new voices for the show. Matthew Morris raised his hand in a tweet…
Would love to come on a podcast

Will this be another new voice?
From the post, look for a couple of new voices that will appear – Jen Cort and Munazzah Shirwani. Each has provided a short teaser to get your attention.
There are always great things coming from the blogs of Ontario Edubloggers. Make sure that you check them out. And, if you’re from Ontario and are a blogger yourself, fill out the form and you’ll be added to the collection.
There’s always something new, thoughtful and original to push your thinking.
You can follow the above bloggers on Twitter.

the thing journal, 7.2.2017 - 7.8.2017
capsule review-like entries about the things i saw or heard last week. in this post: lord steppington, the golden hour, the last man on earth, souled out, splasher, le jour se leve, creed, a 14 ans, 4:44, singles, heart beats
1) Lord Steppington, by The Step Brothers: I wrote a brief paean to Rhymesayers last week, and I do stand by it, I'm just not thinking about this album specifically when thinking about the label. It's a decent album, it's very Midwest in spirit what with the soul samples and whatnot, but it's also thoroughly whelming Midwest rap. And that's not a bad thing, not every album is destined to be the best album ever! And "this album is OK" isn't that great a criticism, like oh no, how dare something not instill a fire within me, and we didn't make it five sentences into this album before I wrote about writing. Tomorrow will come.
2) The Golden Hour, by Kimbra: So real talk, I sort of thought this album was gonna be the biggest waste of time of all the 2014 joints I added to the library. I only knew her from the Gotye song, she was described as "dream pop" which doesn't sound like anything which could capitavate me, I'm not 110% into the Gotye song if I'm being perfectly honest, it seemed like a bad time from the second I hit "add." But wouldn't you know it, while there was a lot of indie bullshit (man "90s music" is such a predictable bummer), there were actually two (2) disco-y tracks that went hard as hell and made me pay attention. I sort of expected this entire album to move at 3 MPH for 50 minutes, and while I recognize it's not fair to weigh an album against one's expectations (0/2! nailing it this week!), the dance tracks themselves were actually great, and knowing Kimbra was capable of doing more than whisper plaintively made me pay attention to the rest of the album, and there was some really cool stuff in there. Not my cup of tea, but not something I'd refuse if it was what a host had on offer.
3) The Last Man on Earth s3, cr. Will Forte: Definitely the best season so far. The episode where Tandy takes Kenneth Choi to his home in Seattle while Carol tries to get Gail to adopt her is so good, it feels like something the series had to do at some point, acknowledge that these characters had lives before the virus that they are thinking about all the time, and the Kirsten Wiig episode was gold, like, half that episode is just Kristen Wiig yelling at a dog, and that's the better half of the episode. I also really love the version of Tandy who expresses his self-centeredness by trying to be the nicest most helpful boy alive. The show is just so nice and so great and I'm so excited to see where they take s4 in however many months.
4) Souled Out, by Jhene Aiko: One day I'm going to admit to myself that I don't like this kind of music as much as I want to. Like, greatness transcends, I can hear Blood Orange or Solange or SZA and know what I'm listening to is a miracle, but stuff like this or Syd or Smino, like, I want to be where these albums are, but I just can't get to that place. And part of this is just the way I treat music, I know, I'm trying to get the full experience with just one listen on a bus ride home and that's not doing it right, but with albums like this, which are so very subtle and so very understated, what I would get out of the full experience isn't worth the effort it would take to sink into it. I'm sure it's very good, but I'm just never going to be this into mid-tier alt-R&B, and I'm okay with admitting that. Like, I'm about to rave about a colorful platformer video game where you play as a spiky-haired child who bounces off special paint, I'm not quiet R&B introspective jam person.
5) Splasher, dev. Romain Claude: I'm actually writing this like six levels deep into this game because I am absolutely in love. If there's one genre of game I love, it's indie platformer (I like VVVVVV and Runbow, I'm not an afficionado or anything), and this hits a thousand of my buttons. Like, I plunked money on an actual controller for this game, because I tried it for like ten minutes with my keyboard and was like "Nope, nope, this will never work" and set it down (did I write about my first ten minutes in here? Not sure I did. Ah, well!) and now I have a controller and my gosh the movement. This is a game that wants you to move through it quickly, but it never feels like you're out of control at any point, the little orange dude whose name probably doesn't matter is always responding to what you're telling him to do. Like, the air controls! He floats just enough that moving him around is still a skill to be mastered, but not so much so to make it tedious, they struck a really fine balance there. So the game hasn't felt unfair as of yet, all the (many) deaths I have suffered (many, many deaths) have been 100% my fault and have not felt frustrating in any way. And every level with the golden bouncy paint has been absolutely delightful. I'm not sure what later levels have in store for me, I'm sure I'm gonna hit a difficulty curve, but my gosh, what a wonderful little treat!
6) Le Jour Se Leve, dir. Marcel Carne: yes hello hi welcome to post i am reviewing a colorful video game about a bouncing parkour child an 80-year-old french film So I mean I don't have anything to say about this film, but it's just so nuts to consider that films used to look like this and feel like this. Like, the idea of this film wouldn't have been out of place in the dark anti-hero TV drama boom of the 21st century, but cinema had only progressed so far in the '30s, so it's a dark anti-hero drama being told with the cinematic language that had been developed to that point. You can see the first steps being taken to Breaking Bad, but it's several decades away from actually getting there. But the film is also telling its own story, it's not just a marker on the chart of evolutionary progression, it's absolutely worth watching on its own merit, but the entire time, I was just thinking, oh hey I've seen that executed more completely in recent years, that's cool to see the idea before it was fully developed.
7) Creed, dir. Ryan Coogler: The most impressive thing this film did was be a film that worked for someone that had never seen a Rocky movie. It does assume you know some moments from the Rocky series, but only the iconic ones you've seen parodied in other pop culture events. You hear the Rocky theme, you see the steps Rocky walked up, the main character is the son of the most famous adversary, it doesn't traffic in advanced Rocky esoterica, it is just a film that carries the Rocky branding. And I love the way it dealt with legacy. Every single character was trying to do something before life took the opportunity away, and it felt honest while still feeling sort of like meta-commentary, like Creed knew it was going to be judged against Rocky and wanted to prove it was Creed before people called it Rocky in the same way Adonis needed to prove he was Adonis before people started calling him Apollo's son. That's me reading way too much into the movie, though. It was dope. Hey guys did you know that movies a bunch of other people also have seen,,, are good? Sometimes things in the mainstream are OK, too! Anyway here's another French film.
8) A 14 ans, dir. Helene Zimmer: I don't think I've ever seen a film that allowed teenage girls to be the assholes they are in this film. Like, movies like Mean Girls or Easy A or what-have-you are about how teens can hurt each other, but the teens' assholishness is heightened for comedic effect, and the teens all learn lessons in the end. This presents an unvarnished look at how teen girls can absolutely fuck up everyone's lives, and I thought that was fairly admirable. Yet while it was doing that thing, it never lost sight of the fact that its characters were still developing as people, that they weren't necessarily aware they were doing monstrous things they were just kids who don't know any better who were fucking up in ways they might never be able to understand, so the film wasn't this dark look at The Dangers of Teening, it was a sympathetic portrayal of young women figuring out who they wanna be. It’s not a coming-of-age story, it’s a being-of-age story. This is an accurate descriptor of the portrait of young women being painted by this film, and also a joke about how nothing actually like happens in this movie, yeah hello hi it me I like songs that go everywhere and movies that go nowhere.
9) 4:44, by Jay-Z: Everything everyone is saying about this album is correct. I initially balked at the concept of a response album to Lemonade, but I never considered that the word "response" was being used as shorthand for "detail of Jay-Z's emotional response." It's not just that it's a rapper going through his life and loves and considering how he failed, it's that it's Jay-Z, who has spent the last five years rapping about how many yachts he owns. (And it's also just that any rapper this side of Rhymesayers is being this introspective. Like damnit man this is our thing, how dare you be better at this than us.) And just like Lemonade, this is a really fucking good album, and even if it deals with difficult topics, it doesn't handle them in a difficult way, this is an album I'm excited to return to.
10) Singles, by Future Islands: Maybe I'm just not remembering The Far Field well enough, but this man was doing some things with his voice I don't remember doing on The Far Field. There are moments where he dips into this soft growl that are so out-of-place in the middle of these dreamy synthpop tracks yet don't feel jarring, always sort of feel logical. (One would assume the band knows how to structure songs around the things the dude wants to do with his voice. It's weird how bands that are good know how to write songs!) And, gosh, the world has been saying this for a thousand years, but "Seasons (Waiting on You)" is just such an absolutely perfect song.
11) Heart Beat, by Dami Im: Let's go back to Souled Out for a little bit, because if I'm going to listen to something mid-tier, I'd rather listen to something overdramatic than understated. Something like this is what I can get into, All The Singing over the most trashy pop production, not vibing over droning electronic beats. This isn't to suggest that this album is better than Souled Out, Souled Out is probably better on an objective basis, just that this is the sort of thing which more easily draws me in. I am always going to be into a young woman singing joyously about how super a certain emotion (in this case, Love) is. This was a fun 35 minutes or so. I prefer having fun sometimes!
