Here's my 100 questions for my OC thing!

My OC is Laureli, a 6'2 Altmer trying to make his way in Skyrim

1. What do they smell like?

Whatever alchemy ingredient he’s been working with, really. Lavender is what he smells like most often, though.

2. What is their voice like?

A smooth-ish medium pitch Altmer voice that has elements of calm and irritation.

3. What is their biggest motivator?

Helping others through his alchemy. He wants to improve medicine for Skyrim, as well as all of Tamriel.

4. What is their most embarrassing memory?

He had a whole scientific presentation one year that ended up being completely wrong. He got humiliated in front of everyone.

5. How do they deal with/react to pain?

Winces at it, curses, and then gets to treating the problem.

6. What do they like to wear?

Functional clothes that keep him warm and allow him to carry alchemy ingredients in his pockets.

7. Which of their relationships have impacted them most positively?

The relationships with some of the people he’s helped over the years. It gave him a sense of purpose and fulfillment knowing that he could help people, save people.

8. What’s the weirdest thing they’ve ever eaten?

He’s an alchemist...in Skyrim...I’m pretty sure there are a few contenders… (giants toe, large/small antlers, ectoplasm, the list goes on)

9. Describe the way that they sleep.

Normal side sleeper. Prefers to sleep on his left side.

10. What is their favorite food/kind of food?

Horker stew. It’s actually way better than he thought it would be.

11. What do they feel most insecure about?

If what he’s doing is good enough. He has big problems with perfectionism that still persist with him even after leaving Summerset.

12. How do they like to dress?

Robes with an alchemy enchantment and a hood.

13. How do they react to feelings of guilt?

He tries to shake them off, but has panic attacks and whatnot sometimes as a result of them.

14. How do they react to/deal with betrayal?

Is completely shattered by it. He’s dealt with this so many times before, though, so he keeps his cards close to his chest.

15. What is their greatest achievement?

Creating potions that help much more than the average cure disease potion would, as well as all sorts of other concoctions. Also, he’s created a sort of disinfectant and is working on a hand sanitizer.

16. What are they like when they’ve gotten too little sleep?

Cranky, cranky, cranky.

17. What are they like when they’re drunk?

Drunk? Oh no no no no Laureli does not drink (and even if he did he’d be out real quick)

18. What kind of music do they enjoy?

He isn’t really into music, but he enjoys the songs the bard plays at the Bannered Mare.

19. Are they right or left handed?

Right, but is practicing with his left hand too in case something happens to his right.

20. Fears?

Death and failure, mostly.

21. Favorite kind of weather?

As the sun rises and there’s dew all over the grass, the light reflecting through each drop.

22. Favorite color?

The color of eyes. Or, more specifically, the hundreds of little pinpricks of different colors inside of eyes, It’s really quite fascinating.

23. Do they collect anything?

OH YEAH. So many different alchemy ingredients and random stuff to be used in his next works-

24. Do they prefer either hot or cold weather more?

Cold, which is good since he lives in Skyrim.

25. What is their eye color?

Chartreuse (like most Altmer)

26. What is their race/ethnicity?

Altmer

27. Hair color?

White

28. Are they happy where they are currently?

Yup. Breezehome is small, but manageable, and Whiterun is a decent hold to live in.

29. Are they a morning person?

Yes. He gets tired around 9 and can’t stay up past 12.

30. Sunrise or sunset?

Sunrise.

31. Are they more messy or more organized?

Very organized. Again, he’s a perfectionist.

32. Pet peeves?

People touching his things as well as people inserting themselves into his business.

33. Do they own any objects of significant personal importance?

An amulet of Talos a Nord gave him. He hadn’t gotten the chance to learn much about Talos at home, and he found it very interesting talking to the local Nords about their beliefs. That amulet reminds him of his first day in Skyrim, the first day of his new life.

34. Least favorite food?

Taffy treats, or anything with that sort of texture and stickiness that can get stuck to his teeth very easily.

35. Least favorite color?

Very pale green. It looks gross.

36. Least favorite smell?

Death. (Yes, death has a smell)

37. When was the last time they cried?

Recently.

38. Were they with anybody the last time they cried?

No. Oh Auri-el, no no no no. He cries alone and he makes sure of it.

39. Tell us about one of the times they got injured?

Was in a fire when he was younger, he has a burn going up the inner leg on his right leg.

40. Do they have any scars?

Only mental ones. (and the burn scar on his leg)

41. Do they struggle with any mental health issues?

Perfectionism, past abuse, self hate, among others.

42. Do they have any bad habits?

Picking at his nails. He knows it makes them hurt and get bloody, but sometimes he just can’t help it.

43. Why might someone dislike them?

He can be very rude if he’s working, but to be fair, it is really annoying to be bothered in the middle of your work.

44. Why might someone love them?

Who wouldn’t love an overworked science boye? But in all seriousness, if he loves someone, he will be very caring towards them and is also just great listener. Tries not to care any more though because of personal trauma.

45. Do they believe in ghosts?

Yup. He’s heard of people’s encounters with them. Honestly, you’d be stupid to not believe in them.

46. Is there anyone they would trust with their lives?

At this point? No. Farkas later down the line? Yes.

47. Are they romantically interested in anyone?

Farkas, but we ain’t talking about that yet~

48. Are they dating/married to anyone?

49. Do they like surprises?

No. Please do not surprise this poor man he will stagger back and crash into everything.

50. When is their birthday?

9th of Hearthfire (September 9th)

51. How do they usually celebrate their birthday?

He takes a few seconds to acknowledge it and then gets on with his work.

52. Do they have any family?

Yup! A Mom, a Dad, a younger sister, and a male cousin that lives nearby (he’s in the Thalmor and the whole family has very Pro-Thalmor views)

53. Are they close to their family?

HAH- no~

54. What is their MBTI type?

INTJ (Damn this list for making me look up stereotypes for this. Honestly I hate the MBTI system so much-)

Virgo

If lawful chaotic good was a thing then yes

58. Do they ever have nightmares? If so, what about?

Yes, but they are often so tangled up that it’s hard to get any real meaning from them.

59. What are their views on death?

“It’s fine, it’s fine, I’ll be fine-” Hopes that he’ll be fine but is really scared about it.

60. What is something that they’re sure to laugh at?

Bad science puns. He will stifle a chuckle before telling you how bad your joke was.

61. When bored, how do they pass time?

This man does not get bored. He will always find something alchemy related to study or look into.

62. Do they enjoy being outside?

Yes. Laureli loves the Skyrim weather (for the most part. Places like Dawnstar and Winterhold suck)

63. Do they have an accent?

Yes. He has the typical Altmer accent.

64. Upon seeing a slice of chocolate cake, what is their first reaction?

“Why is this here? This isn’t mine.”

65. If they knew they were going to die, what would they do/say

He would probably take too long deciding and die before he could do/say anything.

66. How do they feel about sex?

Sex repulsed asexual.

67. What is their sexuality?

GAY

68. Do they become squeamish at the sight of blood?

Nope.

69. Is there anything that they find really gross?

He’s seen so much it would take a lot to surprise him here.

70. Which TV Trope(s) best describes them?

Grumpy scientist with no people skills.

71. Do they enjoy helping people?

Yes, definitely

72. Are they allergic to anything?

Not really. (Lucky)

73. Do they have a pet?

74. Are they quick to anger? What are they like when they loose their temper?

Nope, unless you press his buttons. His anger is pretty much “What in the name of Auri-el is wrong with you?! Don’t touch my equipment!!”

75. How patient are they?

Very...until you hit his limit. Then he gets passive aggressive.

76. Are they good at cooking?

Not really. He can be good at it, he just chose not to learn in favor of working on his projects. Can make enough to live on, though.

77. Favorite insult? Do they insult people often?

He doesn't have a favorite insult (he rarely insults people).

78. How do they act when they’re particularly happy?

Talking fast, pacing, flappy hands.

79. What do they do when they learn about other people’s fears?

Try to avoid bringing those fears up around them and avoiding making fun of them. If their fear is nearby, he will either tell them or take care of it. (which is good because Farkas is scared of spiders)

80. Are they trustworthy?

Yes, but you have to be a very certain kind of person to work with him.

81. Do they try to hide their emotions? Are they good at it?

Sometimes, especially romantic feelings. Romantic attraction? Nope, not possible- (It totally is; he’s in denial)

82. Do they exercise regularly?

With all of the walking he does around various holds, yes.

83. Are they comfortable with the way they look?

Yes. He’s a perfectionist with many things, but has learned to let go a bit more when it comes to his appearance. He still will take ages to get ready, though.

84. What are some physical features that they find attractive on people?

Tattoos, braids, basically everything you’d see on a typical Nord. It’s so different from his home and he’s completely enamored.

85. What kind of personalities do they find attractive?

Himbo nord men. Sweet morons basically.

86. Do they like sweet foods?

Not really. Sweet foods do have their place, but he isn’t wanting to get any cavities, so he tries to limit his sugar. (Especially since Altmer live 200-300 years aprox)

87. What is their age?

52 (~20s for an Altmer)

88. Are they tall or short or somewhere in between?

Tall, but about average for an Altmer

89. Do they wear glasses or contacts?

No, but if he did he would have half-moon spectacles.

90. Do they consider themselves attractive?

Not really. He doesn’t really think anyone is attractive. (Well, except for Nord himbos, but he doesn’t know that until he meets Farkas)

91. What is their sense of humor like?

Practically nonexistent, but when there is humor it’s mostly dry and sardonic.

92. What mood are they most often in?

That sort of focused work mode you get in when you’re really concentrating, as well as somewhat-sociable-but-still-kind-of-tired-and-grumpy

93. What kinds of things anger them?

People messing up his equipment. Oh sweet Auri-el, if you touch his things he will explode. Also, he hates the racism that the Thalmor promote. (He hates racism in general, but he hates the Thalmor’s views the most).

94. Outlook on life?

“It sucks, but I do find quite a bit fascinating and I’ll help where I can.”

95. What kind of things make them sad/depressed?

His perfectionism, how lonely he knows he is, and more.

96. What is their greatest weakness?

Again, his perfectionism, as well as having his work dictate more in his life than he should.

97. What is the greatest strength?

His brain. He remembers small details extremely well, and is practically an encyclopedia when it comes to alchemy.

98. Something that they regret?

How awful he used to be to everyone back home. He got a lot of pushback on his dreams and who he was, so he lashed out. Even though there wasn’t much he could do there, he still regrets hiring his family and wants to try at a relationship again with them (lol good luck).

99. Biggest accomplishment?

How is this different from “Greatest Achievement”?

100. Create your own! (Why is his alchemy so different from the norm?)

Because he’s trying to do something much more along the lines of modern medicine as opposed to just potions.

101. (Bonus!) Why is he in Skyrim?

Because it’s rather lacking in the medicine department compared to the other provinces, so he decided his talents would be best used there. Obviously, his family protested, but he went anyways.

Snakes and Butterflies | Preface

Pairing: Jimin x reader

Genre: Soulmate Au!, Fluff, Angst, Smut (Maybe, still debating)

Words: 2.1k

Warnings: MC briefly mentions self harm but she recovers.

Note: So this is my first series, I sort of dabbled in writing when I was younger. so I’m no expert but feedback is appreciated. I always enjoyed reading fan-fictions and always wanted to try it myself. Hope you like it!

"So your room will be on the 3rd floor, facing the parking lot behind this building" I say to the couple in front of me as I hand them the keys to their hotel room. When they both reach for the keys I see their soulmate marks both matching arrows. I look up and feel my fake customer smile come on my face as I met their gaze. "Elevator is on the first hallway to your right as soon as you leave out the door. Dial zero if you have any questions." As soon as the couple is out of hearing range, I let out a sigh that Fernando, the security guard, hears.

"It's almost time till you get off," He says. "I have 7 more hours to go.."

"Oh you’re right" I say, as I look at the time on my phone. "Time to go home to the love of my life: my Yuki."

"Y/n, you need to go out and have fun like other girls your age," He says laughing and rubbing his beer pot belly. "You never know, you might just meet the love of your life...which would be nice in times like these.."

"Times like what?" I say counting out my last cash drop of my shift. "Did you see something on Facebook again? I told you so many times--"

"I saw this on the local news!" He says with red blotching his cheeks. "Young girls! Young girls around your age getting abducted! They turn up later on having no memory only that their Soulmate marks are gone!"

"Let me guess," I say printing out my paperwork and logging out of the system so that I could wait for my relief to come running through the door late again. "All these girls had a bunch to drink while having this so called 'fun' you say and this happened to them."

He stammers for words and in comes running my coworker who happens to work the graveyard shift. I saluted her and I gestured for her to hurry up and clock in since guests are pulling in the parking lot. She smiles and hurries to start the beginning of her shift, while Fernando walks me to my car.

"Okay," He starts when we reach my car. "Perhaps not now but later when this whole ordeal dies down." I hum in response ready to get in my car as I unlock it, but he stops my door from opening.

"I just worry about you, that's all y/n. Most girls either rebel or try very hard to find the one that matches their Mark but you.. you hide behind those sweaters and let no one near you, I've never even seen your Mark-"

“Fernando," I say grasping his shoulder. "There's no need to worry, I'm just letting fate decide for me. We've been blessed with this, surely fate means for me to come across them at some point in my life." I feel my other hand clench at the word 'blessed'. Surely to me it was a curse. I force myself to smile and I see that it works, he's convinced. "I just want time for myself. I want to grow into a person that feels like she's lived her life and is willing to open up and welcome someone." That wasn't a lie, that was genuine and I felt my voice wavering with emotion. Emotion I didn't know I still had. Fernando pats my hand and opens my door. I roll down the window after starting the ignition. I smile as I hear his radio go off, my coworker stating she needs him upfront.

"Alright then miss," he says smiling. "I will let you go now and get some sleep!" I wave at him, as I reverse out and start the short drive home. My smile fading off my face as I clenched the steering wheel, willing myself to force unwanted emotions and memories away and drove the short distance to my home.

The reason I decided to move out here to one of the beach cities was to escape. I found solitude in the sounds of the waves. My friend Jennie had recommended me to stay in this house alongside her family’s private beach, once I had told her my plans of moving out. She told me the rent would be really cheap which was impossible to believe but she told me that her family was planning on making it an airbnb during the summer and that they needed someone to manage it. She offered a wage but of course I declined, I just told her to hire someone to clean and I’ll manage the rest.

It had been a year since then and now summer was just peaking over the horizon again and I knew I was gonna have to take time off to get everything situated. As I got through my door, my beloved Yuki, my tonkinese cat greets me with her purring and rubbing around my ankles.

“Hello my precious, how was your night?”

She purrs and licks my petting hand. I go to take off my coat and shower before bed. As I strip my work clothes, my arms catch my glance and from the conversation from earlier, I am reminded just how much of a freak I am. Where there should have been a Mark, lied just my skin. Scarred skin, to be exact, scars that matched my finger nails.

Rather than face the questions and pity in people’s faces, I rather hide. Hide just how pitiful my life has been. As the warmth of the water envelops me, I don’t feel the need to hide, at least not here in my own home, well that is till the summer. I force the pity I have for myself away and hum a tune. After that I fed Yuki a late night snack and turned on the TV to watch some Netflix. Just then my phone dinged and I saw a message from my mother.

Mom[10:47 pm]: Have you seen this? Link: ww.foxnews.com/missingMarks

I clicked on the link and apparently the news I thought was just local made national news.

“Today in a small town in southern California, tragedy has struck for several young adolescents who were out enjoying their youth when their very futures may very well change forever.” I rolled my eyes at that. They’ll live. “These women were abducted and their Soulmate marks stripped from their arms. All of them have no recollection of their whereabouts in the last 14 hours. Here’s Nancy with one of the victims.”

The clip changes to a girl with her eyes blurred out but it was evident that she was crying as she kept wiping her face.

“I swear I just needed some air, I stepped out for a bit and I woke up at some park and this excruciating pain in my arm… my Mark was gone, almost as if it was burned off! How am I ever-gonna find them?!”

Once again I had to resist the urge to roll my eyes, although a part of me was reminded of my teenage years but now older me, thrives in independence. My phone dings again, indicating another message from my mother.

Mom[10:52 pm]: They think there’s some Neanderthals out there taking Marks away… is that even possible? I thought they were extinct…

Me[10:52 pm]: I thought that was just a bedtime story??

Mom[10:55 pm]: Seriously? It’s in the history books! Why would you think that?

Me[10: 57 pm]: You know why… I don’t really care for things involving those stupid Marks. Besides I learned that along with basic math, how am I supposed to remember that?

Mom[10:57 pm]: I know sorry. But you should at least know our history!

Me[10:58 pm]: Ok I’ll watch a documentary on it on Netflix right now

Mom[10:59 pm]: You just got off work! Go to sleep!

Me[10:59 pm]: yea yea goodnight <3

“Maybe we should just sleep Yuki?” I say as she jumps on my lap and continues to purr and make herself comfortable before I could even get up. “Oh well guess I’m not moving.”

I grab the remote and start Netflix and about to click on Stranger, a Korean drama that I binged in the night prior but a new planet earth documentary catches my eye. This time instead of endangered species it’s about Neanderthals, an extinct race of human beings.

“Would you look at that?” I say tilting my head in curiosity. “Guess I am gonna learn our history.”

As the documentary starts to play, I get a text from my boss that she needs me off for tomorrow so I could work a full shift the day after and I internally groan but realize I can sleep in tomorrow. The theme song of Planet Earth starts playing and I am reminded of my childhood when I see the photograph of the Neanderthals, they look more ape like than human. I begin to wonder if they really actually looked like that or if they were exaggerated or not. Would they still look like that or would evolution help them adapt among humans now? Assuming that they were still alive…

“Humans and Neanderthals have always had their differences and constantly were at war with each other. Evolution had blessed humans with the abilities to procreate faster by aiding humans to find suitable partners. Each generation of humans was more beautiful than the previous. The Neanderthals, unfortunately were unable to evolve like us human beings and they would rape and pillage humans in order to procreate. Thanks to our advancement in evolution, humans were able to develop better weapons and eradicate the Neanderthals…”

“Okay,” I said rolling my eyes, raising the remote control. “Enough of that genocide bullshit.”

“But what if that’s all a lie?” a man obscured in the video said. On the bottom where typically the name of professors or researchers would be credited, the name ‘John Doe’ was instead. This caused me to raise my eyebrows. This man did not want to be known. Of course what he just said is considered blasphemous. “What if I were to tell you that humans are not the apex predators-that we never were the apex predator? That our ancestors may have won the war but fabricated history for their benefit?”

“That’s quite possible,” I mumbled. “But how could you possibly obtain the evidence to prove that?”

“Of course there is no evidence left to prove that but I have dedicated my entire research into finding the remaining Neanderthals. Our ancestors could never locate the actual origin of the Neanderthals-”

“Seriously? I thought that place was just a myth!” I exclaimed, rousing Yuki from her sleep. With the flick of her tail she hopped off the couch and headed to my bedroom to sleep on my bed. “Sorry baby.”

The documentary went on and on about the possibility that Neanderthals may live among us. That everything we know is a lie, that Neanderthals were the ones who evolved, they were the ones that had Soulmate marks… but there was no evidence to support it.

I turned off the TV when the credits started to roll. “Well another documentary to piss off the republicans.” My eyes started to feel heavy and instead of going to my bed I just pulled the throw blanket over myself and fell asleep.

“Y/n look! Fireflies!” a boy with crescent moon eyes and Cheshire smile came running up to me with cupped hands. On his arm, was a Soulmate mark that wrapped around his entire arm, like a snake. It was the most beautiful I had ever seen. Most marks were abstract symbols but this was the first animal one I had ever seen.

“Can I see, Jimin?” another boy said excitedly running with buck teeth, almost like a bunny’s.

“No I want to show Y/n first!” and the boy called Jimin reached me and opened his hands.

The fireflies floated up the sky and both me and the other boy stared in awe. The other boy proceeded to try and catch the fireflies once more and when I looked back at Jimin, he was already staring at me with a gleam in his eyes. He reached for my hand and when our skin made contact, a shiver went through the both of us. When I looked at our joined hands, I noticed that instead of a snake tail on his wrist, the snake’s body seemed to morph into particles and the particles continued onto my arm and morphed into butterflies..like a puzzle piece.

nope! i was raised catholic tho and i still hold on to some of the weird catholic habits. i’d call myself aesthetically catholic

too much sugar and some milk, i also like flavored coffees and cold brew!!

i work at a museum that has an aquarium, so neither! but aquarium definitely

6. do you have any tattoos or piercings? do you want more?

my ears are pierced and i have one tattoo! i want to get my nose pierced and i commissioned my friend to draw a new tattoo for me a while ago and i haven’t got it yet, i have a short list of some others i want too!!

raspberries! i’m actually not really a fruit person, i prefer vegetables

zucchini!! squash, celery, asparagus, snap peas, it’s a very long list tbh!!

i don’t have a ton of friends, so i’m pretty close with all the ones i have, because there’s like 4 of them, but i think my closest friend might be my friend mckenzi, i’ve known her since the 4th grade and she’s the best

12. have you ever been a part of a protest or a march?

i haven’t! there aren’t a lot of protests or marches locally, so it’s not really easy for me to attend any, also my parents are p against the idea of protesting and i live with/am financially dependent on them rn sooooooo

YES!!!!! i am a HUGE dragon age fan, dragon age 2 is my favorite! rn i’m playing a lot of rdr2 and i love it so much!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

14. did you ever have an emo or scene phase?

i wanted to!!! really badly!!!! but my mom would never let me cut or dye my hair, and i didn’t get to wear any of the ~super cool scene/emo clothes~ and i’m a little thankful because no embarrassing scene phase pics but also :(

15. what color is most of your wardrobe?

it’s mostly dark colors, but i think other than black it’s a pretty even split between blue and green right now

16. what do you like to do for fun?

aaaaaaaaaa mostly video games, sometimes drawing, i like to go outside or go to the park on kinda cloudy days, when it’s cool and there are no bugs out!

geese probably, or dying alone, it’s a tossup really

i don’t read as much as i used to, so i’m including comics/manga in this, i really like junji ito’s work. i have tomie, gyo, and uzumaki, i also really love les miserables! and i was really into warrior cats as a kid

yes!! i have a stuffed animal of the three headed dog from harry potter (don’t know his name because idgaf about harry potter tbh) and i love him and i still sleep with him in my bed!

no, horrible, as anyone who has ever ridden in a car with me

not sure, i use drugstore makeup and i don’t really pay attention to the brand???? just like??? the cheapest matte full coverage makeup available at the store

again not really, most of my favorite clothes come from goodwill, and when i buy clothes not from goodwill i’m looking mostly for stuff that’s comfortable and fits

30. what was your first job?

i still have my first job! i work at a children’s museum, i do kids parties, summer camps, and i tell people not to touch things!

31. do you take a lot of naps?

"Take care of yourself." She said before the doors closed behind her. The house felt awful quiet, cold by California standards. The groceries laid forgotten on the counter and he sat on the sofa with elbows on his knees and his head hung low. The only sound was the wind outside, the wild parrots and the click of paws on wooden floor. Cold, black nose touched his hand, the dog's face somehow looked worried. "58, how old is that in dog years?" He asked him ruffling his ears. Brick cocked his head, looking questioningly. "If 10 years is like 60 and I'm 6 times that, so 58 times 6, 8 times 6 is 48," math made his head ache. "Fuck that, I'm a writer. It's a lot, ancient, a walking dinosaur." He babbled, scratching the dog behind the ears, his eyes closed in delight. "Bottom line is, it's you and me again, buddy, think you can handle that?" His phone vibrated on the kitchen counter, crawling over the marble. Brick wagged his tail, thinking it was a new toy he brought for him. "I don't feel like talking to anyone," he grumbled, "I'm too old to get up." The dog jerked his head out of his hands and trotted to the kitchen where he sat down, looking up, waiting expectantly as if a treat was about to fall down. The phone buzzed again and he barked. His overexerted knee hurt and was starting to feel almost chronic, he should get that checked out probably. What was the name of that new-age clinic in Chicago? The dog barked again. "Okay, okay," he dragged himself after the pooch and picked up the phone while addressing him, "but you'll do the talking." He finally glanced at the caller ID and sighed, sliding to the floor and leaning against the wall in surrender. Back to petting the dog, he tapped the green button. "Hollywood's most unwanted," he answered. "Well, hello to you too, sir," she spoke playfully, sounding close enough to reach, if he only could sink his hand into the glossy plastic. "What's wrong." "I'm old, unemployed and alone," he whined, sliding fully to the floor. Brick's head landed under his arm and he kept scratching him, the faithful beast. "I think I might pick up directing again." "I didn't mean it that way, you know that." "So what, it's true." "You're a writer, you forgot that?" He sighed, not yet in the mood to be made feel better. "It's M, right?" "She moved out." It didn't hurt, it just felt like a general bummer. "She's with her fitness trainer now," haha, "trying to make something out of her life, as she should, really." "Good for her," she praised, cheer never fading from her tone. "How are you feeling about it?" "What day it is?" He evaded the question bluntly. "Wednesday? It's September, don't you have calendars in Cali?" "No seasons to judge by either, all glow, all the time." "Honey, you're a New Yorker, you need that gold and red Central Park vibe." "Viiibe", he drawled, "listen to you, all down with the kids these days." "Come on," she was getting impatient with him, he knew the tone, "stop moping around, I won't believe it's all about the breakup." "It's not, it's just that..." he broke of, embarrassed, saying it out loud made it true. "David?" Back to concerned, God she knew him too well, there was no use in lying. "West is working now, acting." "I know, she and Piper met in Vancouver last month." "Miller's in school, too cool to hang out with his dad," he glanced at the dog, his graying snout resting on his chest, warm and heavy comfort. "It's just me and my dog, and I have a feeling he's gonna eat me one day, when I'm gone." She laughed, and the sound made him smile, her scrunched up nose tattooed in his mind till the end of time. "You really let yourself go this time." "I have aches and pains no yoga can touch." "I'd run you a bath," she offered, warmer now, "a nice hot bath." "That would be nice." "Come back to New York," she said, as if she had a plan, "I have a week off to spare, I'll meet you there and we'll go somewhere." "Like where?" He was all over the tabloids for almost a year now, he was sick of it. "I don't know," she was warming up to the idea, "somewhere warm but where there's still autumn. France?" She had friends there, strangers, and he felt old, too old for skulking through shadowy alleys. "Nowhere to hide there." All of a sudden, she lit up. "I know!" He could almost feel the glow, "Japan!" His eyes grew wide. "What?" "Polite people, hot springs, quiet resorts and amazing sushi." She recited, intuiting the things he might want. He stayed quiet, mulling it over. If they could hitch a ride on a private jet, they might just slip under the radar. And since the last trip was such a bust... "Come on, just the two of us, I could use a vacation," she teased, lowering her voice to that purr that gave him chills of the best kind, "hot baths under red and gold leaves, silk bathrobes, quiet gardens and soft floors." He closed his eyes and imagined her creamy white skin against glossy black fabric. Untying the sash, he could almost hear the whisper of silk. Even the smallest prospect of being with her made his cock twitch. "I could leave the dog with the kids," he said cautiously, liking the idea more with each minute. "No one will find us," she promised and believed it, after all it wouldn't be their first time. "I'll ask my team to find us a quiet spot." "Gillian," he said quietly, blues replaced by the blue of her eyes, "I love you, you know that?" "I know, love you too, I'll call you back with the details, go pack." "Yes ma'am."

Torn // Chatzy Transcript

Tara is a cockblock, Eli makes it better, Damian and Daphne have Actual Moments, Hadeel uses that cubus charm on Toby, Bei is a Beiby Gayby for Leo(nardo), and Jonathan is king of everyone’s heart

Damian: "I would say it was one time, but well." He replied a little bitterly, looking away. It was easier to be with Daphne. To be all the good and all the bad without feeling like a villain for it. He tapped his fingers against the bar top. "One drink?" 19:33

Hcdeedee: "I'd really rather not be in the enclosed space where its dark and I'll have to waste money on many torches." 19:36

Toby: "Well, I'm sure there are plenty of low level enemies in there just waiting for us to kill them you know." He said pointed out, taking a sip of his drink. 19:37

FlynnRaider: Leo shrugged. It would make sense. "I've always been told I'm an intimidating figure. I wouldn't really be surprised. Still, getting /some/ sort of action would have been nice". Leo was vastly unprepared for the attention he got in the states as a result. Relationships were a mystery to him. "Yeah, I grew up on the coast. It was beautiful. Moved to the states for my studies though" 19:37

Hcdeedee: "Probably, but it's so much nicer in the woods." 19:39

Daphne: "It's cute how you act like I can stop you," Daphne grinned, reaching up to pinch Damian's cheek. She was comforted knowing that here, drinking gave you a debuff instead of sclerosis. 19:39

Damian: He wiggled his brow as he leaned in and pretended to bite at one of her ears. "Well you might be able to." He straightened and grinned. "I think I read that druids can whip my ass. Since I'm a wolf." 19:40

Bei: "I thought I heard some sort of vague accent..." Bei hummed while an amused smile flickered across his features. Slowly the stupor of the day, of the flashbacks, seemed to be slipping away. Not gone, but certainly no longer at the forefront of his mind. "I figured New England... Not Italy." He looked down at his beer. "I'm an immigrant myself. Chinese, parents moved to America when I was a child." 19:41

FlynnRaider: "Yeah, I never could quite kick it," Leo said with a grimace. His italian roots were always obvious. His supposed that it was okay though, his only ever fling had called it "sexy". "Lucky you. I made the big move myself." He sipped on his drink, aiming for casual. Social drinking wasn't something he was well versed in. 19:47

Daphne: Daphne pressed her face to his shoulder and inhaled "That explains why you smell like dog" Happy dog. She loved that smell. "I could whip your ass anyway. Remember when I ran into your shins with my chair?" That's what he got for taunting her. "Well, shin?" She corrected herself. 19:48

Bei: "For what it's worth..." Bei started tilting the beer in his hand. "I can't slip from Mandarin to English without a disgusting accent slip. I wasn't able to shake it until I was well into high school. The teasing was horrendous." 19:50

Damian: "What is your obsession with sniffing me?" He wrinkled his nose. "I'm the one with nose powers in the current time and place." Damain grimaced at the memory. "I only have half a lower shin on one side. Take pity." He grinned at her. "One drink each. Maybe two. Then strip joint or bed." 19:50

FlynnRaider: "Kids are awful," Leo agreed with a roll of his eyes. He didn't miss highschool, he'd been tall and gangly, if you could believe that. Hadn't grown int himself yet. "Thankfully I missed out on the welcoming/ american highschool experience. I didn't come to Pennsylvania till uni." 19:53

Bei: "Pennsylvania?" Bei asked, tipping his head a bit. "Where at in Pennsylvania?" 19:54

FlynnRaider: "Philadelphia, specifically. Studied History and Art History there. Double major." It was a bit embarrassing to admit, a tough guy like him. But it was his passion. The school boasted one of the best programs in the country. 19:55

Bei: "I could never imagine studying History myself... then again, I was never much the school type anyway. I was far more interested in doing than learning." He hummed before looked to Leo. "Though, I suppose that does go to show how small the world is. That's just under two hours away from where I live. Really, a day trip. My parents used to love going to Philadelphia... Thought the Liberty Bell was the greatest thing ever." 19:58

Toby: "Alright, alright. We'll go to the forest then." Toby wasn't put out either way. One way or another he was going to try and level up. "You know, we could also try going down to the water." 20:00

FlynnRaider: "Let me tell you, it's come in handy these days. Knowing all the names of the weapons, the clothing, that kind of thing," Leo joked. He'd never thought his degree would actually be applicable in his daily life. "I can't say I ever saw too much of the city though, which is a shame. Too focused on my studies. And I've moved now anyway." 20:00

Daphne: "You smell like a Good Boy. Like Brinkley. You know, that therapy dog." Daphne wrinkled her nose at the drink the barkeep pushed toward her. She had been diagnosed prior to her 21st birthday and had never had the opportunity to acquire a taste for booze. "They have a strip club here?" She asked, bewildered. 20:02

Bei: "I'll bet. If I ever have a question, I now know where to go to." He smiled before he took a sip from his beer. "Oh? Where did you move to? Somewhere warm and not prone to a foot of snow in one go?" 20:03

FlynnRaider: Leo snorted. "More like covered with people who walk too slow and sells shitty hot dogs. New York of all places. A tiny shitty apartment in the Bronx, if we're getting specific." 20:04

Damian: "Ew. He's a drooler." Damian wiped his hands against his thigh with a shiver. Taking his drink, he nodded before taking a long drink. Setting it down again, he smiled. "Yep. Girls. Boys. And in between. I figure you can admire naked beauty and I can try to get laid." 20:05

Bei: The answer seemed to catch Bei off guard and he sat up a bit straighter. "...New York?" 20:06

FlynnRaider: "Yeeeees?" Leo answered questioningly. "Not the classiest of places but I didn't think it was /that/ bad." 20:07

Bei: "...New York, New York?" 20:08

FlynnRaider: "New York, New York." He arched an eyebrow. 20:09

Bei: A slow smile spread across Bei's face, similar to the Grinch but far less menacing. "Huh." He hummed as he took another drink. 20:10

FlynnRaider: Leo grumbled into his drink. "Care to share?" 20:11

Bei: "Oh, nothing." He replied coyly with a shake of his head. 20:11

FlynnRaider: Flagging down Jonathan, Leo narrowed his eyes at Bei. "Seriously? This is how it's going to be?" He sighed and rested his chin on his hand in annoyance. 20:13

Daphne: Heat rose in Daphne's face. Naked bodies were... weird. They just made her feel awkward unless it belonged to somebody she knew. Then she didn't care. 20:16

Bei let the quiet linger just a moment longer before he leaned in a bit, not enough to breach personal space, but closer than he'd been before. "I'm from New York as well. That's all." 20:16

Toby joined the chat 20:16

Daphne: "I hope you're not expecting a wingman" 20:16

Damian: He chuckled and patted her back, "I'm fucking with you. I just need a drink." He held up his foot, the sole of his left boot flapping. "Look at this sad state of affairs. I deserve a drink, Daf." 20:17

FlynnRaider: As Bei leaned in, Leo leaned back in his chair in response, face heating slightly. "Oh, uh, small world." There was a beat of silence. "Whereabouts?" 20:19

Bei: Bei took the fact that Leo leaned back as a clear signal and straightened out, once giving the other the space he'd had before. "As cliche as this is going to be, Chinatown." 20:20

FlynnRaider: Leo tried his best to ignore the pang of disappointment he felt as the other leaned back. He supposed that was his own fault. But maybe he could fix it? Shaking it off, he smirked and leaned forward on his hand. "Wow, really doing your part to shake off the stereotypes." 20:25

Bei: Bei winced though his expression was open and playful and followed by a laugh. "Blame my parents. They set up there, opened a shop to support us... and it was an easy place to come back to after..." He trailed off, the smile faltering a bit as he tipped his nearly empty glass. "...after my injury." 20:27

Tara entered for the first time 20:28

Daphne: Daphne blushed. She should have known he was teasing. Daphne went to drink but... the flapping. The flapping was incessant. And Damian knew how annoying it was; he had to or he wouldn't be doing it! So, she reached out and tore the sole off. "There! I fixed it!" 20:29

FlynnRaider: Leo's playful look immediately dropped. This was clearly a more serious topic, it should be handled delicately. He couldn't help his eyes flicking over Bei's body, though logically he knew any injuries wouldn't have transferred over. "Injury? I hope you're alright..." 20:30

Bei: "I'm fine." Bei replied, just a beat too quickly as he shrugged it off. "I moved back to New York and took a job as a local cop. Let me tell you, the strange shit you see as a cop in New York." 20:30

Tara joined the chat 20:31

Damian: Damian looked wide eyed at here then wiggled his socked toes out the bottom of his shoe. "You punk ass kid, Daf." He grabbed the sole and tried to reattach it. "I wasn't gonna buy new ones dammit!" 20:32

FlynnRaider: Leo let him drop the subject without pressing Some things were best left alone. "A cop, how honorable." he flattered with a small laugh. "But I bet you I can top that. You see even stranger shit as a bouncer. All the crazies come out at about 3 am" 20:32

Tara: By this point, Tara was somewhat convinced that since this game had so many Americans, she was going to get carded before she could even get drunk truth or dare going. It was going to happen, dammit, even if she was the only one playing. So her first part of the plan? Sneak into the tavern (check), say nothing (so far, check), sit in the corner (creepily, check) and spring it on them when they were too confused to argue. Yeah. That was it. 20:33

Bei: "I can guarantee you I've been called out at 3am to half of the clubs at some point." Bei countered, his easy smile returning before he leaned back a bit, making sure to give Leo his space. "What club?" 20:33

Daphne: Daphne shrugged. "You could just go barefoot like me," she chirped, wiggling her toes at him. 20:37

FlynnRaider: "Those calls must be fun. I can't imagine the amount of times you've been hit on." Whoops. It just kind of slipped out. That was about as close to flirting as Leo could get. Regaining his composure, he shrugged. "Industry Bar. Not the prettiest scene but it pays the bills." 20:39

Bei: "No one wants to hit on a cop that's arresting them for a drunk and disorderly. Trust me." Bei replied, shaking his head. At the name of the bar, he felt his expression betray himself and give away his surprise. "Wait... You're a bouncer at Industry Bar?" 20:40

Damian: "I'm not a fucking heathen." He grabbed her foot and pulled, nearly dislodging her from her seat. "Heathen." 20:40

Tara: Raising her eyebrows sketchily, Tara leaned in to a conversation of which she had no idea of the topic. "So you know what goes really great at industry bars? Activities that really get the whole crowd involved." 20:41

FlynnRaider: If it was you I would, was all Leo could think. But he didn't voice those thoughts, obviously. He raised his eyebrows at Bei's surprised expression. "Yeah. You know it? I work most nights" 20:42

Bei: There was a long pause as Bei stared as Leo. Then, slowly, realization began to dawn and his eyes widened. "Oh, holly hell..." 20:44

Bei glanced sideways at the young woman, caught off guard. He'd focused so much on Leo, he'd hardly noticed the other people around. "...Oh?" 20:45

FlynnRaider: Leo's eyes widened as well, mirroring the man across from him. "Is.. there something wrong?" 20:46

FlynnRaider: He followed his gaze to the women next to him, staring at her blankly. 20:46

Tara nodded sagely. She had not seriously expected that they would get this far. "Yes. How interested are you... in games?" 20:46

Bei: It seemed as though Leo wouldn't get an answer. "It depends on the type of game, I suppose." 20:47

Daphne: Daphne poked Damian in the ribs with her stave. "Bad dog," she scolded, trying to keep from grinning. 20:48

Tara: thought that almost all games were good, but she had to cater to people that just were not used to actually enjoyed themselves. "Games typically played at parties... but with higher stakes." 20:48

FlynnRaider: This was becoming something he did /not/ want to get involved with. "Uhhhh.... is their an opt out option?" 20:48

Tara: Frowning, Tara supposed that she had come on a little strong. "My name is Tara, if that helps, and I consider myself an expert at games. Opting out is always an option, especially if you enjoy a heavy sense of regret." 20:50

Bei arched an eyebrow at the young woman, clearly amused. "Well, Tara, I might just think you were an NPC looking to get some people in trouble." 20:51

Toby joined the chat 20:51

Damian: "You are an asshole." Damian released her foot and grabbed his drink. "You are an ass and I'm telling on you to Jonathan. My new best friend." 20:51

Toby: Hummed in content as he sat off in the corner of the bar. Nursing his second tankered of mead. 20:52

FlynnRaider: Leo's eyes darted back and forth, watching the exchange. He was content to just observe from the sidelines. 20:53

Tara: That was probably supposed to be offensive. "If I were an NPC, I would probably be, like, totally more predictable. And less awesome. Talking to NPCs is really boring," she said, pouting. "It's just truth or dare. It's fun." 20:53

FlynnRaider: "I... can't say that I've played much truth or dare," Leo admitted. 20:54

Bei glanced up at Leon, an eyebrow arched. "You've never played truth or dare?" 20:55

Tara: Good! She had managed to rope in the one who had been reluctant to play. "I bet that guy over there would play with us," Tara said, pointing over at Toby. "It's a rite of passage to play." 20:55

Toby: Looking up when he heard a voice, Toby lifted a brow. "A rite of passage? To play a game most of us haven't played since elementary school?" 20:56

FlynnRaider: As much as he tried to stop it, Leo's cheeks flushed red. "Do I really seem like the wild partying type in uni to you? It's not like, a necessary human requirement" 20:56

Bei: The amused expression from earlier was back, and Bei had to stop himself from making some sort of flirtatious comment about the color in the other's cheeks. He'd made it clear he had boundaries, and Bei had seemingly already crossed them once. "I would go so far as to say it's a rite of passage as Tara seems to suggest... but it is a staple of most young, dumb experiences." 20:58

Tara: Oddly enough, Tara thought he did look a little like the wild partying type if she squinted hard enough. "Yes, thank you. Definitely something at least close to a rite of passage to play truth or dare... While drunk!" There. The gauntlet had been thrown down. 20:58

Daphne: "mhm, yeah, ok." She stood on tiptoe and kissed Damian's cheek. "I'm going to bed, you grump so you'll have to do the sex elsewhere." 20:58

FlynnRaider: "I was significantly lacking in young, dumb experiences," Leo grumbled. "Don't remind me." He was, of course, referring to his lack of relationships over the years. He never really got to be just a teen. 20:59

Bei: "Well, it seems this lovely young woman is offering you the perfect opportunity to rectify that." 21:00

FlynnRaider: "I'm not /nearly/ drunk or stupid enough for this" 21:01

Toby: Running a hand over the back of his neck, Toby shrugged. "Yeah, alright." Knocking back the rest of his drink, he got up and went to join the others at their table. 21:01

Bei: "Well, looks like you need to down a few beers then." He challenged with an arched eyebrow. 21:01

FlynnRaider: He glared at the other man. "I'm usually the one monitoring peoples drinking, not drinking myself." 21:02

Tara: Two of these strangers were talking about something that Tara still had no idea about, but the other one was definitely game. "Perfect!" she said brightly, going for the least gross-sounding beer that they had. "Should we find more peopld?" 21:02

Damian: "Nooooo. I'll go with you." He pouted and made grabby hands. 21:03

Toby: "Do we need more people?" He wondered out-loud. 21:03

FlynnRaider: "Do we need to play at all?" Leo countered. 21:03

Tara: "Well we don't need more people as long as we can hang on to the one who's too afraid to play," Tara said without thinking too hard about it. 21:04

FlynnRaider: "the one who's too afraid to play?" Leo yelped, insulted. "I'm right here you know!" 21:05

Bei: "Sounds like you've been challenged." 21:07

Damian: Loudly and in the background, Daphne and Damian stumbled out. Laughter following after them. 21:07

FlynnRaider: Grumbling, Leo glared at them while downing a beer. Staring them challengeingly, he slammed it onto the bar. 21:08

Tara sipped at her new drink, entirely pleased that she had found these enjoyable people that did not like her very much. "Yes, o frighted and soon-to-be-drunk one. I dare you to hold your friend's hand for... five minutes." 21:09

FlynnRaider: "I- what?" He blinked, shocked. "I don't have much truth or dare experience, I admit, but I'm /pretty/ sure that's not how you play." 21:10

Toby: Toby: "Oh you've got to be kidding me? That's the first dare that you're going with?" He teased looking at Tara. 21:11

Bei sat back in his chair, his glass held lightly in his hand utterly unaware that he was the friend to which Tara was referencing. 21:11

Tara raised her eyebrows at Toby. "Oh, but you see, this is actually the best idea I've ever had. And since you guys didn't give me your names, you don't get to choose truth or dare." 21:12

Toby: Leaning forward, he held out his hand to her. "Toby. Toby Ross." He said with a smirk. 21:13

FlynnRaider: Crossing his arms, Leo sent an unimpressed look her way. "You essentially walked up and demanded we play. Not sure where you think your so called authority is coming from" 21:13

Tara: Taking Toby's hand, she grinned. "Tara Grayson. Well met!" Scowling at Leo, she said. "Excuse you, but I'm a Paladin, so I probably have... marginal imaginary authority." 21:14

FlynnRaider: "Well I'm a pirate so I probably have marginal imaginary refusal of authority." 21:15

Toby: "Or you're just drunk and your imaginary authority complex has gone to your head." He pointed out. 21:15

Bei snorted softly and shook his head. 21:16

Tara: Raising her glass, Tara insisted, "I have had *one* drink. One! I am not drunk. I am a noble and sometimes chivalrous being." 21:16

FlynnRaider: Scowling, Leo sulked on his stool. And to think, the night had seemed to be looking up. He risked a quick glance over at Bei. 21:17

Toby: "What ever helps you sleep at night, sweetheart." He said before lifting a hand to try and order another drink for himself. 21:18

Damian changed name to Eli 21:18

Tara: Okay, so clearly she was having less success with the night than she expected. "Excuse you, I sleep great at night. And hey!" She glanced from Bei to Leo. "Why aren't you two holding hands? Too chicken?" 21:20

Bei blinked and sat up a bit straighter. "Huh? Me?" 21:20

FlynnRaider: Leo's scowl only deepened. He simply grunted in response. 21:21

Toby: "Really? Guess you'll have to prove it to me sometime." Was he shamelessly flirting? Yes. A common occarance when he got drunk. Looking over to Bei, Toby started to chuckle. "I think she meant you my friend." 21:21

Bei set his now empty glass on the bar. "I've been dared?" 21:24

Tara: "Yes, you two. I dared you guys, like, three minutes ago," Tara said, rolling her eyes. Why couldn't people keep up? Apparently Toby wanted to keep up in some other way, which she was lucky enough to catch the drift of. "No offense, but I'm kind of throwing up in my mouth a little. Can you give me a minute?" 21:24

Eli: Eli sauntered into the tavern with a grin. He'd had a successful day of questing and needed a drink. Going to sit up front, he flagged down the bartender, Jonathan, and ordered a drink. 21:26

FlynnRaider: Eyes darting around looking for a quick escape, Leo spotted Eli at the other end of the bar. "Oi! Eli!" He called over. 21:26

Hcdeedee joined the chat 21:27

Hcdeedee: Holy crap there were so many more people than before in the tavern. 21:27

Bei: "I was not aware I'd been dared." Bei countered before he ordered another drink. 21:28

Eli: Eli looked over and smiled as he raised a brow. "Leo? How are you?" 21:29

FlynnRaider: "Errrrr - could be better," he grimaced,looking pointedly at Tara. 21:30

Toby: "Take all the time you need." He said with a shrug. Turning his attention back over toward the bar he smiled seeing DeeDee. "Save me." He mouthed to his friend. 21:30

Eli: He raised a brow, grabbing his drink and walking over. "What's gong on?" 21:30

Hcdeedee: Hadeel caught sight of Toby at the bar and sighed in relief. "BeeBee!" She called out, pushing past people to stand at his side. 21:31

Tara: Grumbling, "I am much too gay for this," she swigged back at her drink. "And I can totally hear everything." 21:31

Bei pushed himself to his feet and gestured for the bartender to cancel his drink. "And I believe that is my cue to head out." 21:32

FlynnRaider: Leo quickly stood as well. "I'll ah - catch you later?" he said desperately. And just when they'd had a good conversation going. 21:32

Eli: "Yeah of course." He looked from him to Bei and raised a brow. 21:33

Toby: Grunting slightly at the nickname, Toby looked down at Hadeel. "Why does it feel like we're back in high school?" He questioned looking at the group of people. 21:33

Bei nodded to Eli politely before he glanced to Leo and smiled softly. "I'm sure we'll see each other around sometime. Small world and all." He managed, looked up through his eyelashes before he turned and left, hands tucked into his pockets. 21:34

FlynnRaider: "Yeah, see you around," Leo offered half-heartedly as Bei left. 21:35

Eli: Eli rolled his eyes before nudging Leo, "I'm sure Bei wouldn't mind the company, Leo." He looked over to where Bei was walking off. "Go catch up to him idiot." He hissed quietly at Leo. 21:35

Tara: Under her breath, she said, "If they had just held hands everything would have been great, but nooooo, they just have to be children about it." 21:35

FlynnRaider: Looking back over, Leo lowered his voice as well. "Catch up with him? He clearly wants space! He just left!" He hissed back 21:36

Eli: "Because you were clearly ignoring him." He snarked in returned and shoved him off the seat onto his feet. "Go after him and say you want some private time." 21:39

FlynnRaider: Stumbling, Leo looked back in shock. "Ignoring him? I wasn't! Can't I just PM him??" He would never understand boys 21:40

Toby: "Yeah, this isn't just a video. This is real life there DeeDee." He said shaking his head. "I need more beer if I'm going to listen to this anymore. Come on." 21:41

Eli: Eli grabbed his face and held his eyes. "Listen to me very closer. GO and kiss the boy." 21:41

Toni entered for the first time 6 seconds ago 21:42

FlynnRaider: Leo threw up his hands defensively. "WOAH - woah. Kiss?! Who said anything about kissing!" Leo laughed awkwardly. 21:42

Tara: Tara hummed "Kiss the Girl" softly, knowing that the reasonable guy and the jittery one wouldn't hear. 21:43

Eli: He gave him a sharp look. "Go. Now." He nudged him over. "Go get him. Or I will." 21:43

FlynnRaider: He grabbed onto Eli's arm desperately. "No - NO. This is not happening. Nobody is getting /anybody/. Let's just. have a drink, yeah?" 21:44

Eli: He raised a brow at him and opened up his menu. "I'm sure if I message him, he'd be down to meet." He hummed to himself. 21:46

Toby: "You know Bei is a really great guy." He said wanting to just stir the pot a little. "He's really great with handcuffs." 21:47

FlynnRaider: "Wait - WOAH. Let's be reasonable here. It's late. He's gone home - or wherever. We have no reason to contact him." Leo paused. "Why do you even have his username? Ugh, doesn't matter. Just - don't." 21:47

FlynnRaider: At Toby's comment, Leo went BRIGHT red. "I - what - I don't - " he stuttered. 21:48

Toby: Toby couldn't help but chuckle, as he sipped more at the beer he'd finally acquired. "Oh calm down, I was kidding. Mostly." 21:49

Tara: "Was that the guy that just walked out? How do you spell Bei's username?" Tara asked curiously. 21:49

Eli: "I know his username. We're friends." Eli waved at his friend list. "Leo come on. Go after him. Now." He shoved him again, elbowing Toby to stay out of it. 21:49

FlynnRaider: Leo sunk down into his seat, burying his head in his hands. This was a disaster. He was surrounded by drunk idiots. 21:50

Toby: Toby looked over at Eli, rolling his eyes before taking an empty chair. Feb 1

Tara: "So do you spell it like B-A-E? Because if so, I bet that one was hard to get," Tara mused. 21:51

Eli: "Go," He nudged him again. "He clearly liked you." 21:51

Hcdeedee: Hadeel trailed after Toby, curious to see if she could get him to buy another drink for her. 21:52

FlynnRaider: Leo's head snapped up. "He did /not/. You just think that because you think /everybody/ is flirting with you." 21:52

Toby: Glancing up at Hadeel, Toby lifted a brow. "Can I help you dear?" 21:53

Toni had no idea what the hell was going on. Frankly, ne had better things on ner mind, like how the inner workings of the game worked, and how to break it all apart from the inside. But seeings as there seemed to be such a large crowd inside the Tavern, ne figured what would one drink hurt? Of course, one became two and two turned into somewhere between ten and too many. Leaving Toni, a frustrated, horny mess, as the tall drink of water passed her....a drink of water, encouraging ner to slow down, while also looking the hacker over. Toni was really appreciating the attention. But Toni didn't show anything on her face. Of course, the alcohol was sure to change that soon. 21:53

Hcdeedee: "Aren't we getting more drinks?" 21:55

Eli: Eli rolled his eyes and looked over to Tara. "B E I." Then looking back to Leo, he grunted. "Everyone does flirt with me. Haven't you heard? Good looks alone." 21:55

FlynnRaider: Leo rolled his eyes. "Then why don't /you/ go hit on him if you're so insistent on it." 21:56

Eli: "Because he seemed upset about you, not me." Eli replied with a look. 21:56

Tara: "Thank you!" she said to the nice stranger. She would vote for him for guild prime minister, probably. Swiping through her menu, she went to go add this Bei person to her friends list. 21:56

FlynnRaider: He had a look of innocent confusion on his face. "Upset? I didn't really get that vibe..." 21:57

Toby: "I mean, if you'd really like to get another drink, by all means go ahead. Can you get me one too while you're at it?" Giving Hadeel a wink, he turned his attention back to the room. "Thanks doll." 21:57

Eli: Eli rolled his eyes hard and looked to Tara. "Sweetheart, help me out here." 21:57

Tara: For some bizarre reason, Tara's new name in this bar was 'Sweetheart.' She did not really like it. "What? Are we talking about his bae Bei?" 21:59

Eli: "Yes. Apparently, Bei was not into Leo here." He gave her a look. 21:59

Hcdeedee: Hadeel pouted, stubbornly staying put by his side. She only had so much gold and she'd be damned if she'd spend it on drinks she could get for free. 22:00

Tara: Tara was not sure if the prime minster guy was being serious. "Well apparently that is incorrect because Bei totally probably was. But what do I know?" 22:01

FlynnRaider: Leo just grumbled. "I'll believe it when I see it. I've gotten my hopes up one too many times. Not that uh - I'm hoping for anything." 22:02

Toby: Nudging Hadeel's shoulder, Toby sighed. "What's with the pout?" 22:02

Eli: "Or you are greatly missing on the opportunity to make out with a frankly super hot man because of fear of rejection." Eli said dryly and breathed out. "Two people, unbiased, saw he was at least into you. Why not message him now and see?" 22:03

Hcdeedee: "I'm saving my gold and was hoping you would pay for the drinks." 22:03

FlynnRaider: Leo crossed his arms and frowned. "If I PM him, will you leave me alone?" 22:04

Tara: "Actually I'm totally biased, because you two would have been really sweet... If you had just held hands!" Tara said, waving her arms around excitedly. 22:04

Eli: "What the beautiful lady said," Eli grinned at Tara before finishing off his drink. "Only if you ask him out on a date." 22:05

Toby: Toby rolled his eyes, fishing in his pocket for another two pieces of gold. 'Here. Those are the last ones I'm buying you, alright?" 22:06

FlynnRaider: Leo just gave Eli a look. "I will /not/. A PM is the best you're going to get. Final offer." 22:06

Tara looked at her messages, vaguely distressed. "So Bae with an A just blocked me, but Bei without is imaginary. Pity." 22:07

Eli: "Then I'll ask him out." Eli threatened flatly. "Bei's username is Beiby. As in gayby beiby." 22:08

Tara: "Scoooooore," Tara said, fistpumping. "Thank you, Prime Minister." 22:09

Eli: Eli nodded then did a double take. "Did you just refer to me as Prime Minister?" 22:10

FlynnRaider: "I wish you luck in your relationship," Leo said dryly. "And don't enable her." 22:10

Tara: "I did. I voted for you. Well, I will," Tara said as thoughtfully as possible, ignoring Leo the grump. 22:11

Eli: "I'm an enabler." He grinned at him and then threw an arm around him. "He was into you." Looking over to Tara, "Do I want to know?" 22:11

FlynnRaider: "Yeah, yeah. Thanks for the attempts at an ego boost. Here's a thought, lets find /you/ sombody" 22:12

Tara: "You might want to know," Tara said cryptically. "Ooo, this is such a romantic evening. I'm so excited." 22:13

Eli: "Well," Eli scanned the tavern. "Slim pickings." He sipped his drink, "Too bad Jonathan is an NPC." 22:13

FlynnRaider: Leo threw his arms into the air. "Alright. I give up. Time to get drunk." 22:14

Eli: "Excellent. Jonathan!" He called, "Shots. Keep them coming." 22:15

Hcdeedee: Hadeel grinned and raced to the bar to get the drinks. A little flirting got her two drinks for the price of one and she quickly returned with their drinks. "Thanks BeeBee." She kissed his cheek in thanks and set down the mugs. 22:15

Tara: "NPC romance is probably worse than star-crossed love. There's probably someone who looks like this one somewhere. Possibly as obedient." 22:17

Eli: "I don't want obedience." He screwed up his face. "I wouldn't mind that face. Or arms." 22:18

FlynnRaider: Leo ignored all his surroundings and just downed a shot. If he could forget the events of tonight, it would be a miracle. 22:18

Tara: "Oh, so you want a better Jonathan. I will make it my mission to find you one, my leader," she said seriously. 22:19

Eli: Eli shoved another shot into Leo's hands taking the empty glass. "Please do. I will..." He looked her up and down, "girlfriend?" 22:20

FlynnRaider: He supposed he was making up for all of his missed drunk nights in uni all in one sitting. not that he was complaining. 22:22

Tara: "Girlfriend please," Tara said with a nod. "I've been seriously almost considering praying for a pretty vampire girlfriend, but I'm only kind of almost picky mostly sometimes." 22:23

FlynnRaider: "Guys... where are we staying tonight..?" 22:23

Eli: "I will attempt to fulfill your dreams." He held out his hand. "Eli." Looking over to Leo, he raised a brow. "I can probably find you a place to stay." 22:26

Toby: "No problem darling." Toby teased. "How about we get out of here once the drinks are done. I'm not quite in a bar lurking mood anymore." 22:26

Tara: "But I can be extra patient, so please prioritize the future guild needs," Tara said fairly. "But now? Now considering it is sleeping time, I must find a tree." 22:27

FlynnRaider: Leo laid his head on the counter, closing his eyes. Just a minute, he told himself. "I'll just... be here. Gimme a sec..." 22:29

Hcdeedee: "Sounds good, no cute guys here anyways... Wanna check out that strip joint?" 22:29

Eli: "Okay. Bed time for all." He patted Leo's back as he got to his feet. "Don't worry. I'll get you to a bed." Pointing to Tara, "And you. You're with me. As your prime minister. I will provide a bed. Free of birbs." 22:30

FlynnRaider: Leo just groaned in response. "Can I just like... not move?" 22:31

Eli: "Only for a bit," He said as he checked his messages again. 22:32

Toby: "And what am I? Chopped liver?" He asked "But yeah, if you want we can head there." 22:32

Tara: "You're so good, Prime Minister. I'm going to friend request you now, and it would be an honor to be even considered one of your list," Tara said gratefully. "Also, Leo, you look really sad. You should get on sleeping not here with Jonathan or the Prime Minister will be jealous."

Hcdeedee: "No you're just old."22:32

Eli: "Prime Minister will be very jealous." He agreed solemnly with Tara. "I'm SirenSong dear, if you can still spell." He steadied her as he grumbled at his inbox.22:34

FlynnRaider: "I'm not sad," he mumbled. "I'm just drunk." Was this karma for all the smashed club goers he'd laughed at?22:34

Tara: "I am the best drunk speller," Tara insisted, tapping that in. "There you so, sir. I'm TerraFirma. But also Tara. Duality, you know? You know. Can we go with the sad drunk now?"22:35

Eli: "TerraFirma? Nice name." He smiled and handed her a water that Jonathan had pushed over. "Drink this so your body hates you less. And Leo of course you're not. Don't worry. We're just going to get you to a bed in just a second."22:36

FlynnRaider: "I'm staying at the inn.... it's just down the road," he mumbled into the wood, gesturing randomly towards the door.22:37

Eli: "Mhm, of course." He patted his head as he Tara nodded off against him."22:38

FlynnRaider: Attempting to get up, Leo got approximately one step before he sagged into Eli. "Now I remember why I don't drink.."22:44

Eli: "Yes. yes." He held both of them up, swaying a little himself.22:46

FlynnRaider: "I can probably make it myself. It's not far....." Leo offered and trailed off. Honestly, he just wanted a bed. Or a floor. Anywhere, really. He wasn't picky22:49

Eli: He shifted, trying to continue messaging Bei for help. "Yes. Now sit."22:50

FlynnRaider: Leo squinted. "Eli... you realize that didn't actually answer my question?"22:50

Eli: "Sit." He repeated the order, as he sent a badly worded message.22:51

FlynnRaider: Obediently Leo sagged to the floor. Stretching his legs out and letting his head fall against the bar, he closed his eyes. Just a short rest...22:52

Eli: Eli tipped back his head and sighed loudly, "Fuck me."22:52

FlynnRaider: Leo opened one eye. "No thanks. Friends is good for me."22:53

Eli: "Not you," He nudged him with his foot.22:54

FlynnRaider: "Who's the lucky lad then?" He inquired without opening his eyes. "And why are we still here anyway?"22:55

Eli: "We're still here because Satan is outside." He murmured angry and picked Tara up in a fireman's hold.22:55

FlynnRaider: "Lovely. We barely lasted a few days." He cracked open his eyes. "Where are you going?"22:57

Eli: "Okay." He shifted Tara. "I am going to go drop her off, then I'll be back for you. Just... stay." He gestured, "Good boy." He walked off with Tara.22:58

FlynnRaider: "Right....." Leo mumbled. All he could do was watch as they disapeared into the night. Well, fuck.22:59

FlynnRaider: He faded in and out of consciousness for the next little while. Occasionally falling asleep but something would always inevitably wake him and start the cycle over.23:00

Bei exhaled as he closed his user interface and stared up at the sign for the bar. Eli owed him. He pushed his way inside and blinked, surprised to find no one in there... until he spotted someone on the floor. "...Leo?"23:02

FlynnRaider: Leo barely cracked his eyes open, throwing up a hand to shield his eyes from the light. "...hmmmm?"23:03

Bei: "Oh for heaven's sake..." He shook his head and bent forward. The height different proved to be difficult, but not impossible. He got Leo to his feet and glanced up. "Where are you staying?"23:05

FlynnRaider: Leo tried to steady himself as he was pulled up but it was proving rather difficult. He sagged heavily into the figure of... Bei? "Didn't you... go home?"23:06

Bei: "I did." Bei nodded and adjusted Leo so he was better supporting him. "And now I'm back." He made his way towards the door slowly. "Now, where are you staying?"23:07

FlynnRaider: "There's an inn... down that way." He swirled his hand in a vague direction. Something was nagging him though. "This... is embarrassing. Wow, ok, let's never speak after this shit."23:08

Bei: Bei smirked and let out a quiet laugh. "Oh, I have a feeling you'll never live this down. And it won't be because of me." He murmured, carefully directing them in the way of Leo's vague gesture.23:10

FlynnRaider: He was far, /far/ to drunk too make out these kind of statements in his addled brain. "Not you? What? Who? Eli?" The questions spilled out before Bei could even answer.23:11

Bei nodded. "Yupp. Eli is likely going to harass you endlessly."23:13

FlynnRaider: "Eli has no ground to stand on anyway," Leo grumbled. "He fucking ditched me at the bar! Left me wasting away! Any random could have come for all this," he gestured towards his general body. Part of his mind was screaming at him to stop talking but he ignored it.23:15

Bei: That earned an amused look from Bei as they made their way through the streets, leaving the tavern behind. "All this?"23:18

FlynnRaider: Leo tried to shrug but just ended up stumbling. "Yeah. This brooding bad boys bod. Words direct from the mouths of my sisters friends. I'm "ripped" apparently. Girls are weird" He attempted to make little air quotes with his fingers.23:20

Bei: It took only a minute or two for them to reach an inn, the one Bei hoped Leo was staying at. "Well, it sounds like your sisters friends certainly have a type."23:22

FlynnRaider: "Jokes on them. I'm kind of a dork." He would never have admitted that if he wasn't drunk, but oh well. "A dork wrapped in pretty packaging." As Bei stopped, Leo sagged against the smaller man.23:24

Bei glanced at Leo and licked his lips before he breathed out and shook his head. No comment. Like he'd said, you got used to it. "What room are you in, buddy?"23:26

FlynnRaider: Leo squinted his eyes, wracking his brain. Oh, fuck. "...223. Wait no, 322....232? 332?....." He trailed off, looking are Bei with wide innocent eyes.23:29

Bei: "...you realize that is absolutely no help, right?"23:30

FlynnRaider: Leo pouted. He didn't even know he could pout. "I'm trying, alright? I narrowed it down to 4, that's something. I got this," he said with faux confidence. He started to stumble down the hallway.23:32

Bei: "Leo, Leo stop." Bei moved after him and grabbed his wrist lightly, tugging him back. "You can't just knock on random doors, dude."23:33

FlynnRaider: "Technically it's Leonardo," he said idly, not paying attention. "It's not like you have any better options." He blinked at Bei, as if the other man somehow held all the answers.23:35

Bei: "Alright then, Leonardo." Bei replied softly. "You really can't remember your room number?"23:35

Eli: (give him the d)23:36

FlynnRaider: (SAVAGE OMG HE'S DRUNK CALM DOWN)23:36

FlynnRaider: "I'm fairly confident that it's on the second floor? If me being confident right now counts for anything." Leo scratched the back of his head. "You can uh... go home now, I don't want to keep you." He flushed slightly.23:38

Bei: "I can't just let you stumble around an Inn knocking on random doors." Bei huffed. He kept his grip on Leo's wrist and paused before breathing out. "Come on, you can crash in my room."23:40

FlynnRaider: "It'll be like....one door," Leo tried to justify. He had no shame, even more so in this state. Bei's suggestion threw him into a mild confusion, though. "Your room? You're in this inn too?"23:42

FlynnRaider: (poor bb is confused like what you have a room here?? what an idiot)23:43

Bei: "I'm just down the street." Bei offered softly as he guided Leo back out of the Inn and onto the road. "Come on."23:44

FlynnRaider: Leo didn't argue as Bei towed him along. He was just tired - /so/ tired. He didn't care about location anymore. When Bei looked at him he just blinked sleepily and smiled.23:47

Bei: The walk was fairly brief, just a couple of minutes before the awkward duo was stumbling into the Dane's Inn. "Come on." He repeated, gently guiding Leo through the halls and back to his own room.23:49

FlynnRaider: Yawning, he rubbed at his eyes. "Thanks," he mumbled. "Like, times 1000. I owe you. Like, anything you want. All my gold or somthin' He all but dragged his fete through the halls.23:51

Bei: "It's not a problem, Leonardo." Bei murmured as he guided Leo back to his bed. He paused to make sure that the younger male was comfortable before he breathed out. "You okay?"23:53

FlynnRaider: "Okay is a relative word. I feel like my heads been through a meat grinder." Leo sagged into the bed below him. It felt like heaven. "I can't take your bed though. Gimme the floor, you take this" He protested weakly, but his eyes were already fluttering closed on the pillow. He struggled to stay awake. "I've slept on the floor plenty of times. And you said you were injured...."23:56

FlynnRaider: (THAT GOT LONG I HAVE A PROBLEM RIP ME23:56

Bei blinked, caught off guard that Leo remember that particular tidbit of information out of everything. The concern was genuinely... touching. "I'm fine. Get some sleep, okay?"23:57

FlynnRaider: "Not gonna take the bed...." he muttered as he slowly slipped into sleep. "Kick me off...."0:00

Bei shook his head and waited until Leo was asleep before he turned and left the room, quietly shutting the door after himself.0:01

How to Ask for Reviews (With Examples!)

To say that customer reviews are powerful is an understatement. A few sentences in a review can have more influence on consumers than an entire website. A difference of one star—or even a half-star—can be all it takes for a shopper to choose a competitor over you.

But in order to get those sentences or that extra star, you need to ask your customers for reviews. Asking for reviews can feel awkward or self-serving, but the truth is that people generally love to share their opinions; they just don’t know the opportunity is there.

In this guide, I’m going to cover the importance of online customer reviews and various scenarios that you can turn into opportunities to ask for reviews. Plus, I'll share some great examples of how to ask that you can adapt to your own business.

The importance of asking customers for reviews

Chances are, you can already attest to the power of customer reviews from your own shopping experiences. Think about the number of times you’ve been on the fence about making a purchase and only followed through because other customers’ glowing reviews gave you the confidence to do so. Or maybe you were never on the fence at all, because you knew exactly what you wanted to buy because you heard great things about it from someone you know.

The fact of the matter is, what other people have to say about your business carries more weight than what you have to say about your business, even if they are complete strangers. In fact, 84% of consumers trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations.

If that is not enough to get you to leave your comfort zone and start collecting reviews for your own business, here are some more stats that might give you the boost you need:

Consumers are willing. In December of 2019, a BrightLocal study showed that 76% of those who are asked to leave reviews go on to do so, and that this was a 70% increase from the prior year.

Consumers find reviews to be helpful. In a study conducted by Podium, 93% of consumers said that online reviews for local businesses are as helpful as product reviews on sites like Amazon.

Consumers see out reviews. According to Google, mobile searches for “reviews” have increased by 35%, and searches for “best” have increased by 80%.

Only 18% of consumers say they don’t read online reviews. That means 82% of your audience can be influenced by reviews written about your business.

How to ask customers for reviews

There are just as many ways to ask customers for reviews as there are communication mediums within your business and marketing efforts. These include:

In person

Over the phone (or via text)

Through your website (ideally, a reviews page)

Via email (email blast, personal email, company email, email signatures)

Via social media (direct message or post)

Via thank you pages

On receipts/invoices

We’ll be covering all of these and more in this post, but remember that you don’t have to stick with just one method of asking customers for reviews. In fact, you should have a few strategies running at once to ensure a steady stream of feedback is coming in about your business. Multiple and recent reviews help earn you more trust from customers and also help your business to rank higher in search results.

How to ask for a review in person

Asking for a review in person can be intimidating, but it is the most effective approach. If the opportunity presents itself, seize it!

Ask in response to praise

The easiest scenario would be that of a customer who approaches you with unsolicited praise. In this case, express your appreciation for their taking the time to provide the feedback, and then make the suggestion. For example:

Happy customer: [singing your praises]

You: That is so great to hear. We really try our best to [do what you’re being praised for]. And thank you so much for taking the time to provide your feedback.

Customer: For sure, thank you for providing such great service!

You: You know, those kinds of comments really help prospective customers to feel more confident in choosing us. If you wouldn’t mind writing what you just said in a quick review on [platform of your choice], that would be awesome.

Create opportunities with conversation

You don’t have to wait for a customer to come to you to ask them for a review. More often than not you’ll need to strike up a conversation with them that will provide the opportunity. You can do so by asking questions about their experience with your store, services, or products upon checkout. Good questions include:

Did you find everything you were looking for today?

Is this your first time [using the product you’re about to purchase]?

How is that [product you’re purchasing]? I’ve tried [a similar product] but I have yet to try this one for myself.

How was your experience in our store today?

In-person review requests are the most popular method. (Note: As we will mention later in this post, we do not recommend asking in exchange for a discount, cash, or free gifts/services.)

Don’t force it

Important: Don’t ask for a review upon a customer’s first positive remark about your business. This will render your conversation ingenuine and you will come off as not caring about their experience but rather just about getting the review. Reviews improve your reputation, but you won’t get any (and your reputation will plummet) if you don’t ask in the right manner.

Instead, get a read on the customer. If their response is short and indicative that they don’t feel like talking, don’t force it. If they respond positively and offer more information or feedback, continue the conversation. As it comes to a close, ask them for the review. For example:

“Well hey, thanks for the feedback. We love sharing that kind of stuff with potential customers so they can feel more confident about choosing us. If you’re comfortable with it, it’d be awesome if you could share any of what you said to me in an online review.”

How to ask clients for for reviews over the phone

If you own or operate a business that is customer support-heavy, you and your employees can find plenty of opportunities to ask clients for reviews over the phone. But choose who you’re asking wisely. If you’ve just helped a client through a long or difficult problem, it’s probably not best to ask them for a review.

However, if you have a self-proclaimed satisfied customer (ideally if they express gratitude for your help), this is a great time to ask for a review.

“I’m glad we were able to help you today and we so appreciate your business. We would love it if you shared this experience on [link to the online review platform of your choice]. Seeing glowing reviews from existing customers makes others more comfortable knowing they’ll get the support they need should an issue with our services arise.”

You’ll make your customer feel appreciated and valued which not only increases customer loyalty but will also increase the chances of them actually giving you that review.

Examples of asking for reviews via email

Using email to ask for reviews is a solid approach for businesses. First of all, it’s still a great channel for communicating with your customers: 91% of consumers open their email on a daily basis, and 58% of consumers check their email before doing anything else online. Second, you can include the link to the review platform right in the email and even test out different formats and language. Here are three approaches and examples of using email to ask customers for reviews.

Email blast

This is an email that would go out to your customer list. You may want to do one broad email or segment it out as you see fit. This type of email could be as short and simple as a 1-10 scale rating, or it could include some brief copy.

Positive reviews from awesome customers like you help others to feel confident about choosing [business name] too. Could you take 60 seconds to go to [link to review platform] and share your happy experiences?

We will be forever grateful. Thank you in advance for helping us out!

Hey everyone,

Did you know that the number of [business name] fans has doubled in this year alone? We must be doing something right! Let us know what keeps you coming back for more. This enables us to continue providing the best experience possible for you, and helps others understand how [ business name] can make their life easier.

Dear [first name]

Thank you for your recent purchase. We hope you love it! If you do, would you consider posting an online review? This helps us to continue providing great products and helps potential buyers to make confident decisions.

Thank you in advance for your review and for being a preferred customer.

Personalized email

Nothing can make a customer feel quite as appreciated as when they receive a personal email from the business owner. Choose a handful of loyal customers who have done a great deal of business with you, or customers with whom you’re hoping to cultivate lasting relationships, and send them a personal note thanking them for their business and asking for the review.

Organization-wide email

Involve your employees in the process. Stress the importance of customer reviews to your staff and ask that they send personal emails to customers. Let them know that they would be personally contributing to the growth of your organization and they’ll feel empowered to participate in the initiative.

Note: Be sure to keep email correspondence short and sweet. People are busy and you’re already asking them to take the time to write a review—don’t make them read a two-page letter about it!

How to ask for reviews in a purchase confirmation

Whether the purchase confirmation is an email or thank you page, asking for a review immediately might seem too soon, since the customer most likely hasn’t had the chance to try out your product or service just yet. However, they can still provide feedback on what it was like to navigate your website, interact with your staff and/or sales team, and go through the purchase process—three very important factors that consumers take into account when considering a business. And this is when the process is fresh on their mind. Also, for many customers, it may not be their first purchase, so if this is their third time purchasing a product from you (or the same product), they might be more inclined to give their positive feedback.

Here are two short and sweet ways to request reviews or feedback in your after-purchase thank you pages:

“Thank you for your purchase! If you enjoyed your shopping experience, tell us (and others) about it!”

“Thank you for your purchase! If you are happy with your [new product], please take a minute to review it here [link to review platform].”

If you are able to go with a branded and designed email, you can gain some inspiration from these brands:

Chewy’s email is a great example of providing the actual items the customer purchased and a link to review each. And I particularly like this one by Biscutteers because they include others’ reviews. This helps give customers a starting point so they’re not starting from scratch, while also boosting their own reputation.

How to ask for a review after a download complete

If your business offers downloadable content or tools, this is another opportunity to get reviews. Audience members or customers who frequently download your content are clearly those who trust your business’s expertise and products. They may not leave a review upon their first download, but as they continue using your free resources they may feel inclined to express their appreciation for your useful information and guidance. In this case, your thank you page might have a review request, such as:

“If you find our information to be helpful, write a review! Reviews help us to not only improve our products and services but also to let others know that we care about delivering the best quality.”

“Could others benefit from [business, product, or service name]? Let them know by writing a review!”

If you offer downloadable content or tools, you could include a review request in your landing page or thank you page as with this example:

How to ask for reviews from vendors

If you do a lot of B2B work, consider your vendors and partners for reviews. Other business owners understand the value of a review, and leaving one on their website or listing may be enough to get one from them without even asking.

However, there are opportunities to ask for reviews from them as well. If you find yourself in a meeting with a client or a business partner, don’t be afraid to simply say,

“Mr. Smith, I really have enjoyed working with you on this project and value your insight. Would you be willing to share your experience with our company by contributing a short review for our testimonial page?”

“Positive feedback from not just customers, but also the partners we work with really helps us to continue attracting more great customers and partners such as yourself. If you wouldn’t mind leaving a review, we would really appreciate that.”

Examples of asking for reviews on your website

You can include a CTA to leave a review in various places on your website, but many businesses benefit from having a dedicated reviews or testimonials page accessible via their main navigation (as this is one of the first things a prospective customer seeks out when considering a business).

One way to do this is to simply have a page that provides links to each of the platforms for which you have listings, such as the example below:

Another approach, which I would recommend, is including existing reviews on the page in addition to the CTA to leave a review, such as with the example below:

Many content management systems have a plugin or script that allows you to aggregate your reviews from other platforms into a feed on this page. But you can also add them manually. Either way, it is best to have the reviews appear on the page in text form (as opposed to screenshot or image). This is because reviews are often packed with important keywords that can boost your SEO, but Google won’t pick up on these words if they’re in image form.

Additional ways to ask for a review

There are lots of creative ways to ask for reviews for your business. Here are a few more that you can have some fun with.

Include a card in your product packaging: With a design tool like Canva, you can easily create little cards that encourage reviews. The card can say something like:

“Did you enjoy working with us? Leave a review!”

"How did we do? Let us know by leaving a review at [link]!”

“Got feedback? We’d love to hear it! You can leave us a review at [link].”

Request reviews via text messages or social media: Asking for reviews in either of these manners is effective because because like email, you can include the link to the review platform right in the text

Add a review option to your chatbot: The great thing about using a chatbot is that you can basically set up a survey right within the chat—and set up filtering such that only your customers can leave them.

How not to ask for reviews

While you are encouraged to ask for reviews, there is a right and a wrong way to go about it. Here are some approaches you should avoid.

Incentivizing with gifts or discounts:. You should not, under any circumstances, offer a discount or free gift in exchange for leaving reviews. This is against the terms and conditions of many review platforms like Yelp and Google, and can lead to a high volume of low-quality or star-only reviews (with no explanation). The purpose of reviews is not primarily to benefit the business but to empower prospective customers to make informed decisions. However, something like this would be perfectly suitable:

Buying reviews. Again, this policy is in place to keep review platforms honest and accurate.

Asking apologetically. Don’t be afraid to ask for reviews. People (as mentioned above, 67% of people) are generally willing to leave reviews. People like being heard, and will be extra willing to lend their voice to a company they feel has met their expectations, as a way of returning the favor. Plus, you are empowering them to give other consumers just like them the confidence to make an informed decision

Forgetting to follow up: Don’t forget to respond to reviews. First off, this is a way of acknowledging and expressing appreciation for the customer’ taking the time to do so. Second, this can help you to build customer relationships and retain more of them. Finally, it shows the rest of the public that you are attentive to the voices of your customers. Responding also builds engagement and activity on your listing, which Google takes into account when ranking business listings.

So what is the best way to ask customers for reviews?

There are many ways to ask for reviews, but the most effective method and/or platform will be different for each business. As mentioned above, your best bet is to have a few strategies in place at once, and to experiment within particular methods to find out which one(s) work best for you! Just remember these key takeaways:

Reviews aren’t selfish; they empower your customers to help other consumers make smart and confident decisions.

Be genuine and don’t force it.

Make it as easy as possible for the customer to leave a review (including using short, easy-to-remember links for printed materials).

Remember that customers are willing to leave reviews.

And then it was November 16

Remember when my plans for Italy included lots of blogging to let friends and family know what I was up to, what I’m thinking, how I’m feeling about the experience, and so on? Remember how I was so worried about making sure you all saw my posts that I polled on Facebook for the best place to share said blog posts?

Well, it’s November 16, I’ve been in Italy for 58 days, and this is blog post number... 3. Well done, Daniel, well done.

I can tell you that I have written something almost every day—just not for anyone but myself. I can tell you that I’ve had a few ideas for things to share, but most of them I’ve forgotten before they could take form in reality. I can tell you that the photos I’ve been sharing are probably the best representation I have of this experience so far—even though I’ve been journaling nightly, most of that journaling has been a basic account of each day, without much pause for real reflection or analysis. Of the three parts of my “motto”, as it were, “reflect meaningfully” has certainly been the toughest to obey with so many things to see and do here every day.

So, here’s a status update. First of all, I have only 24 full days left here. 24! And that’s using “here” fairly loosely: this includes 3 days in Rome, another in Tuscany, 4 days visiting Turkey, and (if I’m not too sick of traveling) a day or two in Südtirol to cap things off. “Three months in Italy” sounded like quite a lot when I first arrived. So did “two months left” in mid-October. But when I woke up a few days ago and realized “I’m heading home in 4 weeks”, that flipped everything on its head.

Despite that, my 58 days here have been fairly packed. I haven’t traveled quite as much as the Stanford undergrads, who make an international trip two out of every three weekends, it seems. But even so, It feels like it’s been a long two months, and that feeling gets more valuable each time I notice another year go by. With Stephen I explored Venice for a whirlwind evening and Croatia for a 4-day driving bonanza. I visited Siena on my own for an emotional (and at times unbelievable) Palio race day. With the Stanford program I experienced Milan and Cremona for a weekend of music and art. With Kimberly, James, and new friends I explored Umbria: Assisi’s never-ending basilica; Perugia’s fantastic outdoor market; a wine tasting inside a 12th-century church hidden behind a wild boar hunting expedition; a farm visit conducted exclusively in Italian featuring the world’s happiest pig. All of it has been unique and memorable—sadly, I have no other grand conclusions to draw.

On the home front here in Florence, I’ve also found some wonderful experiences and lucked into others. Teaching Engineering of Opera has been a fun challenge, as well as a learning experience that I know will be valuable should I decide to stay in academia. As a class we’ve attended three operas, with two more to come, toured two opera houses (including iconic La Scala in Milan), and I’ve lectured on the acoustics of the human voice, acoustics of opera and concert halls, and engineering of opera stagecraft and set design. I had the chance to sing Mozart’s Requiem at the new Florence opera house, which was fantastic fun despite the stress of not having a single piece of concert formalwear on this continent—why did I decide to bring only my brown dress shoes? More recently I found a group of talented music nerds just a few minutes from my apartment and shared some wonderful evenings sight-reading choral music around the piano.

Outside of music, there has also been much to celebrate. I’ve discovered the wonders of Tuscan comfort food and stood within inches of Leonardo da Vinci’s own handwritten notes and sketches. Between Duolingo and auditing a wonderfully fun, well-taught Italian class at Stanford, I’m able to have simple conversations in the local language. I’ve also spent a fair amount of time in my office writing lectures, planning trips, finishing up research papers. And, much to my chagrin, I have spent some time procrastinating on all of the above. It’s easy to get into “work mode” where there exists only a task, a deadline, and the inclination to make the former fill all the time up to the latter; I tend to forget that the alternatives in this case are unique, once-in-a-lifetime experiences, as opposed to getting in a workout or an extra hour of sleep.

Finally, despite the traveling, the unique experiences here in Florence, the work, and the procrastination, I’ve found time for a couple of small creative projects. When planning this trip, I expected creative projects to fill a good third or half of my time—in reality, it’s been more like 5%. Who knew there would be other things to do in Italy?? But this week I completed a new choral composition, only my second but (I hope) one of many more compositions to come. I’m working on an autobiography, which started with the goal of having a new resource for self-reflection, but has since been propelled by the unexpected benefit of highly justifiable reminiscing. Early on in this trip I also started on a short work of fiction—I suspect it won’t amount to much, but hey, I had some fun for a couple thousand words.

So, long story short: it’s been a great and busy two months, and while I’m sad not to have more time, I’m also feeling very excited to return to the states and get back to regularly scheduled programming. My new position at Mayo Clinic looks just as exciting as it did when I tentatively agreed to the job this summer, but perhaps more importantly, I’m simply excited to return to a place where I can settle in to a community. The biggest disappointment I face now isn’t the sights I’ll miss or the trips I won’t take, it’s continuing to make new connections and having only a month to nurture them!

Despite the short stay, I’ve found some small communities of friends here. At my local pub, Pint of View, two or three friendly bartenders serve up microbrews, cocktails and Korean-inspired cuisine (which totally hits the spot as an American accustomed to some variety in cuisine), and put up with my attempts at Italian as long as I’m willing to try. Closer to home, the street on which I live is full of character and charm, embodied by the regulars who spend almost every day outside talking amongst themselves and greeting visitors. Federico, who runs the cheese shop and restaurant downstairs, speaks only Italian and has imparted to me the wisdom of not cutting bruschetta with a fork and knife, and of referring to the hour after noon not as 1:00 or 13:00, but “il tocco”—in English, “the touch”—which comes from the single chime of the church bells at that hour. Renzo, the “mayor” of the street, is such a staple outside the restaurant that in October the other regulars had a name plaque installed on his chair. I asked Michele and Davide, the two waiters, if this was a new chair—their response, with hand gestures and a hearty laugh: “It’s a new plaque, but an old chair.”

Last night, as I returned home, I walked under a pair of workers stringing Christmas lights across our tiny little street as, ahead of me, friends greeted each other and exchanged laughs. Nothing warms my heart like a true sense of community, so although I (sadly) can’t stay longer to grow further into this community, I’m still excited to return home next month. For me the art collections, ancient ruins, Adriatic sunsets, and acquaintances made will always be great memories. But family and friends—the joys we share together, the inspiration you (unthinkingly) provide me, the support you (knowingly) lend—those are best experienced in person, and as often as possible. I’m going to enjoy my last 3.5 weeks here, but when it’s done, I’ll be returning full of excitement to grow with you and to see where this journey takes us all next.

A couple of weeks ago, at a local media meetup, Vivo hinted about its slim-bezel smartphone V7+ to hit stores in Pakistan. The Chinese company has now officially announced the availability of Vivo V7+ in the country during a launch event held yesterday in Lahore.

While the company made its name to introduce with the world’s first under-display fingerprint scanner — not in a production unit though, right now what company offers at its best is its first slim-bezel smartphone – the Vivo V7+. Launched last month in India, the phone seems to have been well-received by customers and reviewers online. The phone was later launched in Malaysia and now when the phone has now been launched in Pakistan, our first impressions with Vivo V7+ were quite good.

Introduction and Hardware Features

The biggest credit indeed goes to its FullView display across narrow bezels and thinner profile. Within its class, undoubtedly, this phone has most attractive screen size yet. Display resolution, however, is not that good to appreciate – it could have a little more but still it’s not a great issue to abuse about. The phone has some major factors from within the memory and storage as well. Oh! I forgot to mention the second prominent feature, besides the thin-bezel frame of this phone, that is the 24-megapixel front-facing camera — that’s the maximum its chipset could support anyway.

After having it driven at its full we can tell that there are a few other things which don’t match up with the category it belongs to. Which, sometimes might make you feel that its price is little bit higher than it should — the price is PKR 35,999/-.

With this price tag, you get only a budget level Qualcomm chipset, the Snapdragon 450. However it’s first appearance in any smartphone which is a true successor to 435 currently present in most mid-rangers. In fact some with the lower price tag only offer Snapdragon 425 or 420 or even MediaTek’s counterpart. On the positive side, the Vivo V7+ also has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage which is pretty much great in its line up.

The taller screen size with 18:9 aspect ratio and appealing slim bezels come besides the plastic build on the back. 16-megapixel camera on the back and a 24-megapixel camera on the front along side a 3225mAh battery. Running Android 7.1.2 out of the box, the phone carries its own flavor with Funtouch OS 3.2. While the phone comes in two colors – matte black and gold, the one we have here is the black variant. Note some prominent features down below.

Vivo V7+ carries on with the features from V5 Plus but interestingly most of them are less impressive than the latter. V5 Plus, though not available in Pakistan, was launched earlier this year with much better features if you ignore V7+’s slim bezels or the 24MP selfie camera. At the same time when compared to the performance of the both V7+ takes a lead with low-end chipset than mid-ranger 625 in V5 Plus.

Technically the lower-end Snapdragon 450 – launched this year, mostly matches at features with last year’s 625. In fact both are pin-compatible to each other. One thing I want to mention here is that the V7+ unit we received is actually reporting to have Snapdragon 625 which is not officially presented anywhere. I’ll update this review after having confirmation from the officials in Pakistan.

The box is simple in a white color with a pop-out style. The retail package brings along everything you’d normally have with most smartphones. A charger – a big charger by the way, a USB cable, earphones with 3.5mm pin and user guides. In addition, inside the retail package, Vivo ships a soft silicone back cover which I never prefer to have my phone into. A plastic protective film is already applied onto the phone. The retail package includes following items.

If you are not a fan of these protective films or tampered glass protectors, you won’t feel any better with this one too. Well, the phone features a Gorilla Glass 4 protection on the front, so you should be fine removing it.

But we’ll not force you to do so, you can even stay with the film-on as it’s perfectly fit around the corners. Better keep it on for some time until you start seeing little scratches of feeling rough on it. You will see that film in some pictures following this review, however most of these pictures won’t have it on as for the review purpose we had to remove it.

The phone is nicely packed into a slim body with only 7.7mm thickness. The taller build form helps it to be much comfortable and handy with nice grip. Plastic is what makes it little unimpressive but material is good enough to fake it as metal – until you knuckle tap on it to instantly discover that it’s a thin plastic layer. The only bad thing about it is that, it vibrates even with the earpiece sound which is not a great experience when you are on call or even it’s ringing on the other side.

The quality and finish of the body is quite nice with rounded edges and corners around the boundary. With all plastic build the phone didn’t have to have any kind of antenna stripes but Vivo added some chrome lines at the top and the bottom edges to give it some aesthetic appeal. Wondering how a clean and plain back panel would look? seriously not as cool as this one.

The back side of the phone follows much common design language with a rear-camera at top-left corner. Along side there’s supportive flash and a little below there’s a fingerprint scanner. At the lower part on the back, there’s some product labeling while the branding “VIVO” is right there below the fingerprint scanner.

With the whole flat panel on the back, the rear camera module is slightly extruded. Some feel this awkward and criticize it but mostly when they see it from a brand they don’t like. It can easily be noticed when the praise the same thing on phone from their favorite brand. So keep this thing as a matter of preference, I personally don’t feel bad with it.

Coming over at the components — the 3.5mm headphone jack, Micro-USB port and a speaker grille are all sit on the bottom along with a primary mic (or the mouth piece). The secondary mic (or the noise cancellation mic) is hosted on the top side alone.

The volume rocker and power button are hosted on the right side rightly in access to your thumb or fingers. On the left, there’s a single tray which can accommodate two Nano-SIM cards and a microSD card. MicroSD support goes up to 256GB on top of in-built 64GB storage.

You can further look at the chrome accent around the top and bottom parts of the sides above. Unlike hybrid SIM slot used mostly these days, Vivo V7+ offers to use two SIM cards and a micro SD card all at once.

On the front side we have slim bezels on top and bottom. The top serves standard components such as earpiece and some sensors, including the new 24-megapixel selfie camera. At the bottom we have nothing.

Vivo V7+ Display

What we have on the front is new 18:9 aspect ratio display. The taller screen on the front is covered by Gorilla Glass 4 with 2.5D curved edges and narrowed-down bezels on top and bottom. There is a thin plastic border line around the glass just before it meets with the rear body.

Right there is something which Vivo didn’t bother to bring it on – a better and sharper display resolution. The 5.99-inch screen only serves with HD+ resolution (720×1440), which for the price tag, I can’t justify. It at least could have 1080p display (FHD+ to keep its 18:9 aspect ratio). That’s just about the numbers as we talk but practically, with the pixel density of around 270ppi it isn’t that terrible for most environments or features. Sharpness in icons and text is what you’d miss when look closely.

Brightness on the other hand is also good from this IPS panel, better than most mid-rangers. The screen has impressive 84.4% screen-to-body ratio. It’s worth mentioning here that apps now support different content features for wider screen like this. Such as YouTube offers you to watch different stretching options on Vivo V7+.

In addition, the software offers even bigger screen space to work with. “Full Screen” mode can be enabled in settings that lets you run apps in full screen by removing the on-screen navigation on bottom and the status bar on top. It however depends on the third party apps how they adopt the feature – 500px is the one I used flawlessly with full screen. “Eye Protection” option is luckily there and is my favorite feature, which is quite helpful for viewing. It increases the warmness in colors and reduces the blue light. But Vivo V7+ doesn’t offer to adjust the temperature and you have to live with a little bit warmer brightness than just warm.

Vivo V7+ runs Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box but also adds the user experience of its own flavor – Funtouch OS 3.2. If you have heard about Huawei’s UI similarities with Apple’s iOS then you will see no wonder with the Funtouch OS UI.

The user interface is heavily customized. There is no app drawer and the home screen is only what you have to deal with. I personally don’t have any issue with it, in fact I prefer to have it this way but many would like to have app drawer. People made Huawei to adopt that feature as well. Folder management is pretty much similar to iOS as well in visuals as edit-mode of the home screen is also a rip-off with floating icons and a cross badge to delete apps.

Home screen can be customized with widgets and the background task view appears in horizontal scrolling windows.

The features like “search within settings” is not available in the settings interface. Funtouch OS has similar search feature right on the home screen when you use swipe-down gesture (not from the top edge) it pulls down the search box and allows you to search the whole system including settings.

When swiped-down from the top edge, it pulls the status bar from top with only the notifications while the quick toggles can be pulled out from bottom with the swipe-up gesture from the edge (the Control Center like). But first thing first, lock screen is plain standard with options to show (or not to show) notifications. Quick shortcuts to “phone” and “camera” but no pull-up control center on lock screen.

Lock screen with facial recognition and fingerprint unlocking support

Interestingly, in addition to fingerprint scanner, V7+ features face recognition with its 24MP front-facing camera which is working fine – right now in the room with lights-off. What it can see is only my face illuminated by my laptop’s screen which I always keep at lowest brightness. I believe it’d work amazingly if the laptop’s screen was fully bright.

Only thing is that you have to wake-up the phone first by pressing the power button once before it could attempt to recognize your face. It’s in fact a security feature or it would unlock the phone unintentionally whenever it passes by your face. Well, the phone indeed allows you to enable this as well but you have to sacrifice some battery drain – how much, I can’t tell, because the camera has to wake all the way up even when your phone is sleeping. So you better keep it off and instead use fingerprint scanner for that purpose.

Split screen option is also available but it’s of no-use on a phone with resolution like this – 720p. In fact, I believe 1080p resolution is also not enough for a real-good use of split-screen feature. But frankly, I wonder how many of you out there use it even on quad HD resolution phones anyway? do give your feedback about it.

But let me tell you here, Vivo has done one good thing with this feature which should be appreciated, and it’s automated split-screen feature for some supported apps with messaging. It’s when you are in full-screen mode — such as watching videos on YouTube, and you receive a message.

Screen Split for Messaging

The message app icon will appear overlaying your video playback for a few seconds only. If you want to read, tap on the message icon, it will take you to split screen mode pushing the video playback aside with the message composer taking half the screen.

I’ll appreciate how Vivo has managed to bring all those important gestures from iOS and implemented them pretty much flawlessly. Already mentioned about “System wide search” which is quite useful but there are quick smart actions and motions which are useful as well.

Examples are “raise to wake” or double-tap to wake, there are on-screen gestures as well to wake which are not that useful as compared to the wake or double-tap. Screen glance is however an awkward feature that allows you to wave your palm across the sleeping screen to bring up the clock and phone status.

Smart Motions • Black screen glance • Smart keep bright

Then another important one is the “Smart bright” feature which keeps the screen up and bright while you are looking onto it. It uses front-facing camera to detect your eye sight and only turns off the screen if it detects you are looking away. This function might not work in poor lighting conditions but as far as I tried, it worked exactly like how the facial recognition as I am still sitting in same dark room with a laptop lighting my face up a little bit.

Battery management comes with standard and ultra power saving modes. They call the ultra one as Super power-saving, it shuts of major features of the phone and leaves you with the basic functions such as contacts access, phone calls, text messages and alarm.

Battery management • App Clone

If I missed, there’s an App Clone feature as well which allows to run two sessions of an app – ever wanted WhatsApp to run on both of your numbers in a dual-SIM phone? This feature has now being started getting bundled out of the box from other phone makers as well.

Vivo V7+ System and Battery Performance

As mentioned above V7+ is reported to have Snapdragon 450 Mobile Platform but according to system information apps or the benchmark tools showed it to have Snapdragon 625 chipset. Technically 450 is a lower-end chip launched this year but it extremely matches the specs of last year’s mid-range 625. Manufactured on 14nm process with 64-bit processor combining eight ARM Cortex A53 cores. The difference occurs at the clock speed, the newer 450 has maximum clock speed of 1.8GHz whereas the older 625 can be clocked up to 2.0GHz. Now the system itself reports to have Snapdragon 625, it’s clocked at 1.8GHz which is the maximum clock speed of 450. It also doesn’t deny the fact that phone maker may limit the speed below the maximum a chip can offer.

So in the conflict of deciding whether it’s 625 or 450, you better ignore it and concentrate on how did it actually performed throughout our review period. In fact, both the chipsets shouldn’t perform with significant difference. As long as it’s concerned with our trial, Vivo V7+ performed good without any lags or jerky animations. Several games were tried including Asphalt Extreme, Mortal Kombat, Modern Combat, Need for Speed No Limit and the famous Subway Surfer – well these are the titles we currently throw at the mid-rangers, which performed nicely with smooth graphics. Adreno 506 GPU actually is good in Snapdragon 450 (if not 625).

On the memory side, 4GB of RAM on this mid-ranger is more than enough to support multiple apps on the background. 64GB storage on the other hand is also a blow which shouldn’t run out anytime soon. Or otherwise you have option to extend via micro SD card.

During practical use, the phone didn’t fail on anything we threw at it if you are numbers’ guy, check out some benchmark scores below.

Vivo V7+ Camera

Carrying the highest resolution camera on the front is now the world’s first smartphone featuring 24-megapixel image sensor for selfies. On the back, however the it’s more common 16MP camera. We’ll look into detail below how both of the cameras perform but one thing to tell is that none of them are mind blowing, as were expected after seeing the main agenda of marketing to attract selfie addict consumers. That’s why I personally preferred the 18:9 display with narrowed-down bezels across the screen among mid-rangers.

Sure the 24MP camera on the front would give you some better results but it still is limited with the fixed-focus lens. Means you can’t adjust the focus with tapping on the subject, it just snaps what it sees, how it sees. It/d be impressive if it had an autofocus lens, such as the recent Nokia offerings.

Rear Camera User Interface

Camera interface on the other hand doesn’t have a lot of options. A viewfinder appears with a quick toggles on top – Flash, HDR, Live photo, camera modes and a gear icon for settings. The settings, again, offer some limited options – shutter timer, photo aspect ratio, and some not so useful.

Camera modes offer to take shot in Ultra-HD resolution. PPT mode allows to take shots of on-screen or on-wall presentations that automatically crops out the unneeded visual elements around it and even adjusts (skews) the final image. (see following example shot)

The camera offers Slow-motion video capture and Time-lapse as well but they are of no use at all specially for the lower quality.

Professional mode offers to manually set exposure compensation, ISO up to 3200, shutter speed down to 12 long seconds. Manual white balance is in its own kind with only Kelvin temperature values – there are no presets for white balance like cloudy, sunny, fluorescent etc. K-values are indeed best in that case but you have to manage it carefully. If you can’t, you better let it shoot on auto white balance. Then there’s manual focus that allows to set between macro-through-infinity.

When in video mode, you don’t have any settings but only the resolution changer and the flash on/off switch. That’s it, record and keep. Along side the still photo (take shot) and video interfaces, there are face beauty mode that manages skin tone, whitening and buffing too. The fourth interface is for panorama that can rotate up to 180-degrees.

Down at the bottom there are some switches, shutter button in the center, gallery shortcut on the left corner, camera switcher (rear/front) on the right corner. Filter switch is also at the bottom that provides a wide array of filters 5×9.

Rear camera offers 480p, 720p and 1080p at 30fps video recording.

Front Camera User Interface

Front camera has not that long set of options as the rear camera but still has enough and its own kind. Simple still photos (take shot) gives the option to use front-facing flash (auto/off/fill ligh). There is “HDR” mode as well as the “Live photo”. In settings you can change similar things as in rear camera. Then you can change to Video mode that also doesn’t provide any option but flash light and resolution changer.

Face beauty on front-camera comes with the same options of skin tone fixing, whitening and buffing but in addition, you have “portrait mode” that simulates bokeh effect with blurring out the background. Well it doesn’t have a dual-cam setup, so it does the job with software only.

Then we have a “group selfie” mode that can be used in the similar way as capturing panorama – sliding the camera a little left and right. That’s it

Camera Quality

Vivo V7+ rear camera is just that good as many other out there in mid-range category. However, I believe for the price it had to give more than that. Daylight shots were good but comes with a little noticeable noise in darker parts when look at the 100% scale. Detail is however fine with distinction in objects, more specifically if you take shot of bricks wall from around around 40 they come with nice detail around the bricks edges.

Dynamic range is not good anyway which in fact ruins the color reproduction across the frame. Vivo doesn’t offer any extensive vividness in the pictures which is not a bad thing at all but colors could have come a little more popped out, which is not the case.

Low light shots were not that impressive and even couldn’t come sharp at focus. Mostly it delivered soft images. Video recording on the other hand is just good and not so impressive as well specially in dark environments where it struggles to focus correctly.

Front Camera

The 24MP front-camera is indeed helping hand for selfie lovers to produce some better selfies with a mid-range smartphone. Yes! it’s not on par with some high-end offerings but among the class, it has gives some better results. High-light clipping can of course be a problem when you take selfies with some bright background as the dynamic range on this front-camera is also equally bad as on rear camera.

It’s just a fixed focus camera and you can’t tap-to-focus but it does offer “portrait mode” for background blur (or bokeh) effect. It’s all software based as it doesn’t have dual-camera.

Vivo V7+ Conclusion & Verdict

Even though Vivo V7+ seems a little overpriced but there are only two reason why we say that. First, its plastic build quality with thin back panel which irritates with sound vibration during phone calls and video playback unless you watch with earphones. Second, the low resolution of 720p for this large display. Otherwise, Vivo has done a pretty much good job with its slim design and specially the FullView 18:9.

Selfie camera on the other hand is also good for those who love to take selfies all day long, I am not like them. Rear camera is more suitable for me and it’s also good on Vivo V7+ comparatively. However, it’s not that good in dark and low-light conditions.

It’s not a hybrid SIM slot, the phone gives you dedicated slots for two SIM cards and another dedicated slot for microSD card, that’s a good thing as well. Still, the plastic build and low resolution is bothering me to defend this phone for the price tag of Rs. 35,999/- If these two things are not a problem for you, you can go ahead and get this phone to experience the new large 18:9 screen size.

Penn State RB Saquon Barkley Is The Complete Package

One of the first things NFL scouts do when looking at prospects in preparation for the NFL Draft is watch them against the best competition they faced in the previous season. This fall, we’re going to take a look at the best head-to-head matchups in this week’s slate of college football games. Every week, I’ll give you look at some key matchups to keep an eye on across the country, highlight a prospect who is on the rise, profile a small-school player to watch for next year’s draft, find a Philly connection, and give out a well-deserved game ball to a prospect who stood out in a big way the previous week.

Many pundits view this Saturday’s slate as a “down” week for college football, but when I look around the country I think there are a lot of fun games to study. This week on the College Draft Podcast with Ross Tucker, I broke down all the best matchups from some of the top games of the week, but here’s five more that fans should keep their eyes on this weekend.

Five Matchups To Watch

1. Penn State Saquon RB Barkley vs. Iowa LB Josey Jewell Kinnick Stadium, Iowa City, Iowa – Saturday 7:30 p.m. – ABC

Saquon Barkley, to me, is arguably the best prospect in the country, regardless of position. At 5-11, 228 pounds, he’s been on an absolute tear to start the season, with five touchdowns and 548 yards from scrimmage in three games. Barkley is the complete package at the position as an explosive, powerful runner with contact balance and wiggle to make people miss. He’s a load to bring down in the open field, and with his combination of size and speed, he’s going to be tough for any defense in the country to stop.

Iowa always has a group of tough, instinctive defenders up front who will bring their best against the Nittany Lions on Saturday. The man to watch in the middle of that defense is senior linebacker Josey Jewell. At 6-2, 230 pounds, Jewell may not be a star once in the NFL, but he’s going to be a really solid starter for someone because of his ability to key and diagnose plays quickly as a run defender. I think he’ll transition well to the NFL because of his physicality downhill at the point of attack and ability to finish as a tackler (though he did have more misses in that department a year ago than I’d like to see). Jewell’s biggest weakness is in coverage, and I think that could be a key component to this game.

Prediction: Barkley extends his scoring streak when he connects with Trace McSorley on a wheel route down the sideline for a big play, and he adds at least another 135 on the ground as Penn State rolls to victory by more than two touchdowns.

2. Nebraska QB Tanner Lee vs. Rutgers’ D Memorial Stadium, Lincoln, Nebraska – 3:30 p.m. – Big Ten Network

In a class that’s already being tabbed as one of the best quarterback drafts in recent memory, one senior who I think will be considered a riser throughout the pre-draft process is Nebraska’s Tanner Lee. A transfer from Tulane now in his first year starting for the Cornhuskers, Lee has NFL size at 6-4, 220 pounds. He has made headlines every summer throughout his career because of how he’s looked at the Manning Passing Academy. Lee started two years at Tulane before a coaching (and dramatic scheme) change forced his hand to leave his hometown Green Wave and join Nebraska. He’s now taken the reins after a transfer year. Lee has solid physical tools and a quick release. He looks the part of a pro passer, but a rough outing last week against Northern Illinois has many questioning the senior’s potential.

Rutgers has a few defenders who have turned heads of late. In the secondary, juniors Isaiah Wharton (6-1, 204), Blessuan Austin (6’1, 195), and Saquan Hampton (6-1, 207) certainly look the part. They’ll present a challenge for Lee on the back end. The player I’ll focus on, however, is pass rusher Kemoko Turay. The senior arrived on campus as a 210-pound track athlete who earned an offer at a Rutgers high school camp. In five years, he’s developed into a 252-pound pass rusher with great bend and flexibility, and a quick first step. He’s not a developed pass rusher right now, and he’s still not where he needs to be against the run, but players with his combination of length and athleticism typically don’t fall far on draft day. I’ve been studying Turay since his freshman season, and the Newark, New Jersey native is certainly a player to keep a close eye on in this game.

Prediction: Lee gets back on the horse this week against the Scarlet Knights. I think he throws for 300 yards and a pair of touchdowns with one interception, but Turay gets his first sack of the year. Nebraska wins the game at home, but I think it’s a win by 10 points or fewer.

3. Old Dominion WR Travis Fulgham vs. Virginia Tech Secondary Lane Stadium, Blacksburg, Virginia – 2 p.m. – ACC Network

This may seem like a throwaway game on the schedule, but don’t count out Old Dominion against the Hokies. The Monarchs have a player on the outside who has really caught my eye. Junior wideout Travis Fulgham (6-3, 214 pounds) is a physically imposing receiver who can attack downfield and win in the quick game. Fulgham leads the team with 10 catches for 183 yards and a score, and I’d feel even better about his abilities in this game if he had his partner in crime on the other side. Senior Jonathan Duhart (6-3, 221 pounds) stood out to me a couple of years ago, and had worked his way into one of the top seniors in the country, but was lost for the season two weeks ago due to injury. I’ve had multiple people text me about both players this fall, and it’s for good reason from the flashes I’ve seen over the last couple of years. This is the kind of game that can put Fulgham on the national radar.

The reason for this is because the Virginia Tech secondary is chock full of NFL talent at both corner and safety. Senior Greg Stroman, in my opinion, is the best football player (right now) in the group, while junior Adonis Alexander has the highest upside. At 6-0, 180 pounds, Stroman doesn’t have ideal quickness and speed, but I really like his instincts in both man and zone coverage. Senior Brandon Facyson, whom I’ve compared to former Eagles cornerback Byron Maxwell in the past, has size but his makeup speed is a concern. While ODU will be missing Duhart, the Hokies will be missing one of their stars in the secondary as well. Alexander, who missed last week’s game against ECU, has the physical traits that you would list as “ideal” in a perfect world at the position. He’s 6-3, 193 pounds, runs as well as anyone in the ACC, and has the quickness in and out of breaks to boot. Reports say he will miss this outing as well.

Prediction: Fulgham caught a 71-yard touchdown against UNC last week, and I think he follows that up with four catches for 58 yards and another score. It will be in a losing effort, however, as Stroman gets his second straight game with an interception as the Hokies win a close one in Blacksburg by nine points.

4. UMass TE Adam Breneman vs. Tennessee DBs Micah Abernathy/Evan Berry Neyland Stadium, Knoxville, Tennessee – Noon – SEC Network

Local college football fans may recognize Breneman’s name, as the Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania native starred at Penn State early in his career before briefly retiring due to medical issues. The former five-star recruit took a year away from the game, serving as a campaign manager during the state senate race, and decided to reunite with his true love of football. One of his best friends happened to play for the Minutemen, so Breneman joined the team a year ago and is now hoping to reach the upside many thought he had with the Nittany Lions. At 6-4, 250 pounds, Breneman is one of the fastest tight ends in the country and has soft hands to impact the vertical passing game. His knees will have to be checked out, but I think he will absolutely be viewed as one of the best prospects at the tight end position in this class when it’s all said and done.

Senior safety Evan Berry had a lot to live up to when he arrived in Knoxville because his older brother Eric was one of the best players to ever play in the SEC and has turned into one of the best safeties in the NFL. He only started three games coming into this season and has been known more for his skills as a kick returner than as a defensive back. Junior safety Micah Abernathy is the starter to watch here, and with 16 tackles he’s one of the leaders in the secondary.

Prediction: After the heartbreaking loss to Florida last week, Tennessee comes back with a vengeance against UMass, but Brenemen gets his touches. I’m calling for five catches, 58 yards, and his first touchdown (which is surprising since he has 24 grabs for 369 yards already) of the season.

5. Arkansas C Frank Ragnow vs. Texas A&M DT Daylon Mack AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas – Noon – ESPN

A three-year starter with good size, strength, and a nasty temperament is always going to fare well in the lead-up to the NFL Draft, and Frank Ragnow is certainly one of those guys. The Razorback stands tall at 6-5, 317 pounds and he can line up at any of the three interior spots in the NFL. Ragnow has a strong anchor with the ability to handle a bull rush with ease. He looks very calm and comfortable in pass protection, showing the ability to read defenses after the snap and process what’s happening in front of him. I’m a fan of his game and see him as a high-floor prospect who should stick in the league for a long time.

From a high-floor player in Ragnow, Daylon Mack is a high-ceiling player on the other side of the line of scrimmage. Mack arrived at Texas A&M as a big-time recruit and earned playing time right away, but has been a career backup thus far for the Aggies. An explosive penetrating tackle who plays with natural leverage and a quick first step, Mack will need to rely on his superior athleticism to win when he’s matched up one-on-one with Ragnow. Mack will be in trouble if he gets locked up in hand-to-hand combat with Ragnow.

Prediction: I think Ragnow wins the battle, but Mack’s Aggies will win the war in a close-fought game between two struggling SEC teams. Ragnow didn’t allow a sack in all of 2016. I expect that to continue, but A&M wins by six.

Draft Buzz

Virginia linebacker Micah Kiser was highlighted by our friend Tony Pauline as a “riser” this week after a big performance against UConn. The senior is in his third year as a starter for the Cavaliers, and he wins with his size and strength. At 240 pounds, Kiser has the bulk to come downhill and thump blockers at the point of attack in the run game. The question with him will be his athletic upside and his play-recognition skills, which is the most important trait of all for a linebacker. I love Kiser’s motor and he’s a fun player to watch.

Small-School Spotlight

I mentioned Tanner Lee’s struggles against Northern Illinois last week, and one of the players at the forefront of that upset win for the Huskies was cornerback Shawun Lurry, who has been on my radar since he earned All-America honors in 2015 when he finished with nine interceptions. Largely undersized at just 5-8, 180 pounds, Lurry’s role at the next level will be limited to playing on the inside and on special teams, but he’s got all of the athletic traits needed to play in the NFL and his ball skills are very good. He won’t be a fit for everyone because of his measurables and he’s not a great tackler (which he will need to fix to play on special teams), but seeing Lurry shine against Nebraska was no surprise to me. Keep an eye out for this kid as the season progresses.

Philly Connection

It’s not often that there’s a player standing out for Alabama who has ties to the Northeast Corridor, but the best prospect on the roster (at least in my eyes) this year grew up not too far from Philadelphia. Defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick was the No. 1 player in the state of New Jersey out of high school. After his family was displaced by Hurricane Irene in August of 2011, Fitzpatrick and his family did everything they could for him to stay at St. Peter’s Prep, and it paid off in a big way. In his hometown of Old Bridge, New Jersey (roughly 90 minutes north of Philadelphia), Fitzpatrick grew up to be a motivated, inspirational, and, most of all, focused kid who is chasing his dream of playing in the NFL. On the field, Fitzpatrick’s instincts, athleticism, and versatility are some of his best traits. He can play any position in the secondary at a high level; and he’s been a starter since his true freshman year in the secondary for Nick Saban, which is not an easy task. He needs to do a better job of finding the ball late downfield and he has some things to clean up in terms of his technique in press coverage. But there is no doubt that Fitzpatrick is one of the 10 best players in the country.

Going into last week’s action, I had heard of Memphis wide receiver Anthony Miller but never had the chance to study him. I was very impressed with his performance against UCLA which the first time I watched him on TV or on tape. Reeling in nine passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns in an upset victory over the visiting Bruins certainly helped. He looked quick, confident over the middle of the field, and reliable at the catch point. I’m excited to dig more into Miller’s tape this year and take a closer look at his quarterback, Riley Ferguson.
