For the past three years Steve Grant Rogers, academy award winning actor, had been everything in your life. Best friend, boyfriend, lover, husband, and father of your one year old son. 

So on a Wednesday afternoon you approach his office in Los Angeles, where he had a meeting with his agent about his newest movie, when your phone rings Wanda’s name and picture showing. 

“Hey babes what’s up?” You say with a smile looking down at your very loved Adidas. 

“Have you seen the news?” She asks with urgency. 

“No, I had to drop James with Tony and I’m visiting Steve at the office,” you say as start walking again back to the office. 

“I think you should come over before you see Steve,” she says and the desperation becomes clearer. 

“Okay, I’ll be there in ten minutes,” you say as you turn around completely oblivious at the situation at hand. 

As you drive to Wanda’s you think about Steve. He had been this unobtainable man when you met him.  You had never been glamorous always a natural soul, unlike him with his golden hair and blue eyes, you never understood why he chose you. 

You where a screenwriter and that’s how you met him. You met him through your brother Tony Stark, a big time director, who said you’d be perfect for him. And three years later you couldn’t be happier. 

You, Steve, and your baby boy. 

That is all you needed in your life. 

As you arrive to Wanda’s you can see her, Buck, Pietro, Tony, Sam, and Nat. You frown at the sight of all of them, specially Sam, Steve’s manager. 

Confused you step out of your car and walk towards them. 

“Hey,” you smile as Tony hugs you. 

“I’m so sorry,” he whispers as he hugs you. 

You laugh, “What’s going on?” You say. 

“We better take this inside,” Wanda says as all of you follow her. 

You see Pepper with Morgan and James sleeping together while she reads something in her phone. You wave as you are pushed into Wanda’s home office. 

“So are any of you going to tell me what happened?” You ask as you feel the tension build up ion the room. 

Wanda turns the TV on and what you see freezes you in place. 

“American heartthrob Steve Rogers, married to writer (Y/N) Stark was photographed with Rogers co-star of many years Margaret Carter, also married to businessman Daniel Sousa, neither Rogers nor Carter have released any statement,” The news anchor continues talking but the only thing on your mind was the sinking feeling of disappointment. 

How could Steve do this to you? 

How could he do this to your son? 

As you continue to think over what you just heard and was you can hear shouting around you until a face softly touches your face wiping your tears away, when did you start crying?

“Bee?” Tony ask softly. 

You look up at him and you break. 

Slowly you start feeling all the emotions all at once. 

Anger, rage, sadness, fear, heartbreak. 

You walk with murder in your eyes and see Sam and Bucky in the corner of your eyes. 

You walk almost run towards them with anger in each step you took. 

“You fucking knew didn’t you?” You say almost yelling. 

“We didn’t know he was cheating,” Bucky says with sadness all over his face. 

“Then what did you know?”  You ask. 

“He told us he was taking interested in someone else, but he swore he was gonna tell you.” Sam says as he looks at you. 

You look around and see everyone with potty on their eyes. 

Taking a deep breath you walk towards the living room where your baby is still sleeping. 

“Thanks Peppers,” you say and smile softly. 

“Hey baby we gotta go,” you say softly as you pick up James. 

“I’ll talk to you later,” you say as you walk out before anyone can say anything else. 

You put James in his car seat where he is still asleep, and you smile. You loved that boy with everything in your heart. 

You take a deep breath as you clean your tears, the only thing in your mind is running thinking of what to do next. 

You arrive home after fifteen minutes, and you see Steve’s car in the drive way. You take a deep breath and take James carefully in your arms.

Steve is in the living room eyes red and a desperation you knew very well. 

“Baby,” he says softly. 

“Don’t,” you answer sharply as you take James into his room. 

After putting him to bed you go to your room, walking directly into the closet taking out the biggest suitcase you could find. You start putting things in when you hear Steve come into the room. 

“(Y/N),” he says softly looking for you. 

“What are you doing?” He asks as he sees you running around the closet packing stuff up. 

“What does it look like?” You ask with a angry look on your face. 

“Please,” He asks and you freeze. 

You walk towards him and slap him across the face. 

“Please what Steve? What could you possibly ask from me?” You ask as you raise your voice. 

“You know I always knew that you had a thing for her, people usually said that she was the one that got away. The one you deserve, well congratulations, you can have her,” you say as you walk back to your suitcase. 

“We never meant for it to happen,” Steve says as he goes to you. 

You push Steve away which shocks him. 

“No,” you yell. “You did, not only did you destroyed my life, you destroyed our marriage, my love for you, and my son’s life.” You yell. 

“I will always be pitied as the the woman Steve Rogers cheated one, my son will be raised in a house where her father didn’t love them enough,” you say as you keep throwing stuff and picking stuff up. 

Steve is just frozen in place, realization showing in his face. 

You walk out of your room dropping your wedding ring and engagement ring on the floor. 

You suddenly turn, “You know people always said you where to good for me, but know I realized that I was too good for you.” 

You walk towards James’ room and take a suitcase from his closet and start taking some of his clothes, shoes, and essentials. 

Steve walks in taking the suitcase from your hand softly, “Please,” he pleads. 

“Please don’t leave,” he says as tears run down your face. 

You look down at your baby. 

“No, I’m leaving and I’m taking my baby,” you say as you pick up his suit case, then yours, and then James. 

You walk to the car while Steve follows you. You see James waking up as you put him in his car seat one more time. You kiss his forehead and tears make their way down you eyes. 

As you try to get back into your car Steve is there and you take a deep breath. 

“Move,” you say. 

“Please, just don’t leave, we can fix this,” he pleads. 

You laugh, “Fix this? Imagine this was me, that I was the one that hurt you this way, would you forgive me? No you wouldn’t.” You say as you try to stop the tears. 

Steve takes a deep breath.

“You know I had my suspicion, that you didn’t love me anymore, that is if you ever loved me. But I knew that something was happening I just though that you’d tell me you didn’t love me, not publicly humiliate me and my family.” You say as you destroy Steve. 

“Of course I loved you, I still do, Peggs was just,” he says but doesn’t continue.

“Peggs,” you scoff. “You are both some selfish assholes.” 

“I’m leaving Steve, don’t look for me. I’m calling my lawyer in the morning.” You say strongly. 

“Also if dad was alive he would’ve shot you, but thankfully Tony can do so much worse. What is gonna happen to America’s sweetheart now?” You as as you get on your car driving away. 

The last thing you see is Steve in his knees crying.

The Bride of Bucky

As Bucky stood in the floor-length mirror, adjusting his tie for the hundredth time that morning, he remembers how it all started and how he became the world's luckiest man.

He once believed that once Hydra had control of his mind and made him their personal puppet and killing machine it would be the end for him. He was just waiting for the day to die.

He never expected to unknowingly run into his long lost friend Steve Rogers during a mission to take the targets down and he didn't expect Steve to help him.

And he didn't expect Shuri to reboot his memory in Wakanda where he healed successfully, for the first time feeling healthy and happy.

Steve and Tony had sat down and put their differences aside, Tony accepting the fact that Bucky didn't know what he was doing at the time Hydra had control of his mind, and subsequently offered Bucky a room at the compound where he stayed for a while.

He had total freedom, he was allowed to leave the compound whenever he wanted, roam the city whenever he pleased. He wasn't trapped in his room like an animal and how Hydra had once treated him.

Bucky had left the compound early that morning to grab some coffee and something tasty he liked to eat as he walked around the city, visiting old neighborhoods and diners he once knew of.

As he stepped in the small cozy cafe, he allowed an old frail woman with her Walker goes in front of him. The delay in the queue allowed him to look around the cafe and that's where he saw you, huddled up in a corner with umpteen folders and your computer, he watched as you typed away with your nose scrunched up. He was curious about what kind of work you did, why you needed so many folders.

And then your phone rang and you had answered it. "Hi, Y/N speaking." Your voice was like music to his ears. His heart strummed in his chest as he listened to you talking about the different kinds of flowers you recommended for a big day. He didn't understand, he was still learning about everything. As you hung up, your eyes glanced in his direction.

A blush crept up to your cheek as you smiled in his direction. You didn't recognize him and never saw someone so handsome.

"Sir?" The person standing behind Bucky tapped him on the shoulder and pointed to the barista standing behind the counter patiently with a smile on her face, waiting for his order.

"Sorry, was another planet." He chuckled nervously. The barista smiled and he relaxed. He wasn't sure how he would handle being yelled at in front of you for daydreaming. "Can I get an almond milk latte and whatever that lady over there ordered?" He pointed in your direction and your gaze dropped to your keyboard. You couldn't tear your eyes away from the adonis of a man. His eyes captivated you and you didn't even know his name. His beard lined his cheeks beautifully and you wanted to run your fingers through his hair because it looked so inviting.

You were replying to an email to try and distract yourself. But from your peripheral, you could see the man approaching you.

You stopped typing and looked up at him, smiling.

"Uh, I'm sorry to bother you but you seemed really busy and thought you would be in the need of a hot chocolate." He smiled sheepishly, lowering your cup by your hand.

"Thank you so much. That's so kind of you." You motioned for him to sit down in the seat opposite you. Work was forgotten for over an hour as you talked to the man who called himself Bucky.

He found out a lot about you, about your job. You were a wedding planner and by the looks of it a very successful one. He listened as you talked about why orchids were a better choice for a wedding. And you had for some reason told him your dream wedding.

"It'll happen one day." He reassured you.

You chuckled and shook your head. "Not without a boyfriend it won't."

Bucky's eyes grew wide in surprise. He was expecting you to be in a relationship, which he realized he probably should have asked at the beginning before he started to chat you up.

"If a man is too blind to be with you doll, they aren't worth your time."

It was almost midday when Bucky looked at the time and he had to reluctantly say goodbye. He couldn't believe he was sat talking to you for hours. He didn't leave without your number though.

The texts started out friendly, and then they became flirty the longer you talked to him.

His confidence grew as he was remembering how to talk to a woman, but also leaning to type with one hand on his iPhone Wanda had very generously gifted him a few Christmases ago.

After a couple of weeks of flirting, Bucky had asked you out on a date. Which you very excitedly accepted and couldn't wait for.

Tony had worked his magic and booked a reservation at a top restaurant in Manhattan. During dinner, you had learned a little more about Bucky. His metal arm didn't once bother you and you made sure to let him know you weren't afraid of it or him.

One date turned into five dates and you were dating each other officially.

He confessed to you everything that happened in his past. He didn't want to enter a relationship without you knowing. The things he did, the regret and guilt he still feels. You assured him that whatever happened in the past is in the past. He was a new man and this is a new chapter.

The Winter Soldier was a different man to Bucky Barnes. Bucky was sweet, kind and considerate with a lot of sass and a great sense of humor.

For every day he was with you, there wasn't a day that went by where he didn't have a smile on his face or laughed.

Bucky wanted to take it slow and you were happy to comply since it was his first relationship in a long time.

But by your 8-month mark, Bucky was already living with you in your apartment.

"Sam is driving me crazy doll, making sex jokes and asking if I can 'still get it up'." He announced as he walked in the door with his duffel bag and another bag full of his DVDs.

"Why does he want to know that?" You laughed as you pecked his lips.

"Maybe he's jealous?" He laughed with a shrug. "He's a strange guy."

You chuckled and said it was alright and it was. You would be lying if you said you didn't enjoy his company and you felt safer with Bucky around.

Two years into your relationship and you were still happy together and in love.

As much as it shocked you, it shocked Bucky more but the two of you never fought. You were perfectly in sync and shared the same taste in style, food, drink, and art. There were no arguments about who washed the dishes, who cooked because whoever did one, the other person would do the other.

And judging by your complete happiness. It was absolutely no surprise when Bucky finally asked you to marry him on the rooftop of the compound surrounded by his closest friends and teammates.

Almost as if he had predicted your answer, Tony went to great lengths setting up fairy lights, candles, and expensive champagne.

It was Bucky's favorite memory because the two of you didn't get out of bed afterward for a good couple of days, celebrating a new step in your relationship.

It was your decision to plan your wedding. Because of your organization skills, you didn't trust anyone to do it. You were a perfectionist and this was your special day, it was Bucky's special day and it had to be just perfect.

The date was set for 9 months. And because you were so organized, your dress was already picked out and you had the arrangements set up for his suit.

Because Wanda, Nat, and Pepper became close friends to you. The invitation for them to be your bridesmaids was an easy decision to make. And they were overjoyed with happiness.

As the day got nearer and nearer, your nerves were through the roof.

Bucky had watched as you paced back and forth your living room, close to tears as the photographer had canceled on you at the last minute.

The wedding was in 2 days and there was no way on this planet you would find another photographer this close to the date.

"It's a disaster! We're not going to have any photos to show our kids. Oh my God, what do we do!" A sob broke out as you hung up the phone. Bucky stood and wrapped you in his strong arms and shushed you.

"It's gonna be ok, doll. I promise. You've worked so hard, go and run yourself a hot bath, relax and let me find a last-minute photographer." He insisted, leaving no room for arguing.

The bath had relaxed you, and Bucky took care of you in the night. Assuring you he had found a replacement but didn't say who it was, but you trusted Bucky.

On the morning of the wedding, you were shaking as you sat in your bathrobe in the hotel room in front of the mirror, having your hair and makeup done professionally. Your flowers had arrived on time, the girls were getting ready, everything was going according to plan.

You and Bucky decided to stick to the traditional way and spend the night apart. The first night he had spent away from you and he wouldn't do it again. He missed you and he was worried about you. He started overthinking the reasons why you would leave him but Steve quickly quieted his thoughts.

"I see the way she looks at you Buck, there is no way she would stand you up," Steve said, squeezing his shoulder as they got ready in their tailor-made suits.

"I love her so much." Bucky chuckled with tears in his eyes. He would carve his love for you over his heart if he wasn't afraid of needles.

"And she loves you. Enjoy the day, relax."

As the boys back at your shared apartment got ready. You were ready to slip into your dress. It was a gorgeous white lace dress, and it was one of your dreams. Even after you had spent hours upon hours searching Pinterest for dresses, they never compared to this one.

Your dress was tightened, and your veil was attached. You had half an hour to go before you needed to go to the venue.

You hoped Bucky didn't change his mind. Your love for him so was pure, ever since the day, you laid your eyes on him in the cafe. You couldn't imagine your life without him now.

He took care of you, took care of each other.

Bucky was the first to arrive. He walked down the aisle, greeting, smiling and thanking friends and family for coming. He waited by the priest, with Steve, Sam, Clint and Tony standing behind him. Everyone had a smile on their face. He was just waiting to see you.

With each second that passed, his heart beat faster. Then the doors opened, the music started to play and your bridesmaids walked down the aisle first and waited on the bride's side.

His eyes were fixated on the door. He gleamed when he saw you walk through them in your gorgeous dress. Flowers in your right hand, your left hand-linked around your father's arm as he walked you down the aisle.

You kept your eyes on your Bucky. And you couldn't believe how handsome he looked. His suit, his white flower pinned on the left side of his blazer. His hair slicked back and tied at the nape of his neck. He had shaved his beard and was left with stubble, one you couldn't wait to feel later tonight.

Everyone around you was invisible and each step you took towards him felt longer.

But you made it. You were given away, thanked your father and kissed his cheek as you stood next to Bucky and smiled lovingly at him.

"Hey, you." You whispered. Taking his hand in yours.

"Hey back. You ready for this?" He squeezed your hand. You squeezed it back assuring him you're ready.

The priest spoke, welcoming everyone as he joined you in matrimony.

Your eyes welled up as your vows were told. His words hit your heart and your love for this man just kept on growing.

"By the power invested in me. I now pronounce you, husband and wife. You may now kiss your wife."

"I love you so much," Bucky whispered against your lips as he pressed his own to them.

"I love you too, so very much." You smiled as you pulled away. The sounds of applauds surrounded the two of you as you walked the aisle together. Confetti was thrown over you when you made it outside.

The photographer was Bruce. And you chuckled. His great green body had somehow managed to squeeze into a suit.

"Say cheese!" Bruce said. The flash blinded you but you honestly didn't care. "Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Barnes!"

Everyone cheered and you kissed your husband with a passion.

The start of a new life as husband and wife.

Bucky would continue to count his lucky stars every day for the rest of his life. Fate caused you to be in that cafe on that day.

His ma would have absolutely adored you. His father too. And you cried one night as he was sad they couldn't be here for his special day.

You reminded him they were, in his heart and they forgave him. They loved him.

And your family was his family, he would never be alone.

Bucky once believed he deserved to be caged up and fed to dogs.

Bucky was once convinced that would happen.

This is his family and his life and nobody could ever dare take that away from him.

He lies there, the bitter cold of the snow numbing his pain. Not that he can feel anything when all he can think about is you. You and the baby. Nothing else matters, not even the pain coming from the direction of his left arm. Or at least where it’s meant to be. 

The only thing keeping him mostly conscious is the thought, the need, of getting back to you and finally starting a family together. He, slowly, reaches for the small pocket on his bloodied and torn jacket. Carefully, pulling out a small, worn picture.

It takes all of the strength he has to hold it, let alone look at it. In fear of losing the only thing that has been able to anchor him this entire time, he clutches the picture of you even tighter in his right hand. Before bringing it up into his blurred vision. He remembers the exact moment it was taken. He remembers every tiny detail. Every smell, every emotion, every thought running through him. 

You were working on dinner, you and Bucky had only been married a few days and you wanted nothing more than to make a special dinner for him. The only problem? You weren’t so great at cooking. It was never something you could get the hang of.

You had been so focused on making sure everything was perfect and dancing around to the music playing softly in the background that you didn’t notice Bucky come home. He stood there, watching you cook and dance for what felt like a lifetime. At some point he pulled out your old camera, and took a picture of you in that moment. 

He was convinced you looked even more beautiful in that moment than you did on your wedding day. When it came to Buck and compliments they were constant, but no matter how often or cheesy they were, they were always genuine. You knew he was being truthful. 

You tried your best to get him to throw it out, he was too stubborn for his own good. You knew he kept it, what you didn’t realize is that it never left his person during missions, even when he was back at base he had it on him. He was convinced it protected him. He kept it like a good luck charm.

He was tried after a long day at work, but knowing that he would be coming home to you made it all worth it. Every worry he got throughout the day was instantly washed away as soon as he saw you. 

As soon as he stepped into your small, cozy, home he’s greeted with the smell of dinner cooking and music. He smiles, knowing he’ll most definitely find you dancing around the kitchen. He thinks part of the reason you always end up burning something is because you’re too distracted. Not that he cares, he finds it cute you like to play the record he got you while cooking.

Quietly, he follows the smell of food into the kitchen. He smiles even brighter when his suspicions had been confirmed. He stands in the entry, watching you dance, humming along to the music. He leans against the wall, to get a better view. If Steve saw him this love sick he would never hear the end of it, not that he cares. Steve teasing him means he has all the more reason to brag about you.

He can’t help but wonder how a punk like him got as luck as he did. He never thought he would find a gal like you, who would not only put up with him, but also love him for the rest of your life. Not to mention want to have a baby with him.

You only seem to notice your husband after he took your picture. Not breaking eye-contact, he walks over to you. “Did you just take my picture. I didn’t even think that thing worked anymore.”

He chuckles, wrapping his arms comfortably around your waist. “I fixed it up for ya doll, it was meant to be a surprise. Then I saw you, figured I should make sure it works properly before givin’ it to ya.” 

“I look so gross.” you wrap your arms around his neck, he stares at you lovingly. “You could never.” he may sound overly confident, like he’s just flattering you. But you don’t miss the sincerity behind his words. 

“I’m covered in food, Buck.” you say, feeling a small flush in your cheeks. “It brings out your eyes doll.” he leans his head against yours. The two of you stand there, swaying to the music in the back round. Everything, for once, feels like it’s going to be okay. Like nothing could go wrong.

He tucks the picture back into his pocket, remembering every promise he made to you before leaving. He told you that he would come home to you. That you wouldn’t have to raise their child alone. A tear rolls down his muddy cheek, “I’m sorry doll, I’m so sorry.” 

“I never was good enough for you, was I?” he laughs bitterly. Resting his head back, he closes his eyes. The snow falls softly on his bruised and muddy face. Tears run down his face, mixing with the bitter snow. Reminding him of his failed promises. He knows his chances of survival are next to nothing. At least he can go peacefully, knowing you’ll get his letters, and the things he left behind.

“Hey,” Bucky says, as he steps into Steve’s room and shuts the door behind him. “Ran up here as soon as I saw your message.”

“Bucky,” Steve says, voice tense. He’s sat on the edge of his bed, wringing his hands together nervously. His golden blonde hair is ruffled, like he’s been raking his fingers though it.

“Steve? What’s wrong, what’s up, pal?” Bucky asks, crossing the room in big strides.

He stops dead in his tracks when he sees the little box beside Steve’s thigh. The faded scarlet is a stark contrast to the crisp white of Steve’s bedsheets. Bucky recognises it from when he and Steve packed up Sarah’s things, all those decades ago.

“You’re gonna ask her?” Bucky asks, putting two and two together.

“Yeah,” Steve replies, voice hoarse.

“So…what? You wanna practice on me? We can do that.”

Bucky clears his throat and tosses his hair back theatrically. “You wanted to ask me something, Stevie?” he asks, putting on his best imitation of your voice.

Steve laughs. “Nah, Buck. I’ll pass on that.”

“Okay then, why am I here?”

“Because I need you to help me set it up.”

“Sure,” Bucky says, nodding easily, “What’s the plan?”

“Well. Here’s what I propose…”

Bucky levels Steve with a murderous glare. “Steve. You did not.”

“Bucky, I swear to god I will castrate you if I break my neck,” you growl, wavering unsteadily as you make your way down the stairs. Blindfolded.

The asshole has the audacity to laugh. “Re-lax, Y/N, I got’cha, I ain’t gonna let you fall.”

“I don’t trust you,” you grumble, as you continue to take baby steps down, guided by Bucky’s hand on your elbow.

You have no idea where Bucky’s taking you.

A few minutes ago, he’d shown up outside your room and asked you to follow him. When you agreed to do so, he produced a blindfold out of thin air and tied it over your eyes. You’d protested vehemently, but he wouldn’t let you take it off. You’ve been pestering him with questions this whole time, but Bucky isn’t giving you anything. You’ve been trying to use your knowledge of the compound’s layout to figure out where he could be taking you, but you’ve made so many twists and turns that at this point, it’s a lost cause.

“We’re almost there,” Bucky murmurs, making you jump in surprise.

“Finally,” you gripe. “I swear to god, Barnes, if I take off this blindfold and Wilson throws a pie in my face or something, you won’t be sleeping for a week.”

“It’s nothing like that,” he assures you. “Big step, now—okay, perfect, aaaaand we’re here.”

“Great!” you say sarcastically, “Can I take the blindfold off yet?”

“Nope,” Bucky replies. “Just—yeah, turn that way for me Y/N, no—okay, yes, stay there,” he orders, letting go of your arm and stepping away.

“Bucky?” you say, slightly panicked by the loss of contact.

“Just hang in there, Y/N,” he calls, his voice coming from somewhere behind you, “Patience!”

“I’ll show you patience—oh!” you squeak, when a warm hand comes to rest on your lower back.

Someone chuckles in amusement.

You know that sound.

“Steve,” you hiss, “What the hell is goin’ on here, I—,”

“It’s a surprise, honey,” he soothes, “I’m gonna take the blindfold off now, but I want you to keep your eyes closed for me, okay?”

“Okay,” you agree, still feeling rather suspicious.

With deft fingers, Steve unties the blindfold and whips it off you. You inhale sharply when he takes your hands in both of his.

“Okay. You can open ‘em now.”

“I swear to—wow,” you gasp, eyes going wide as you take everything in.

You’ve never been in this room before. It’s small and square-shaped, with warm lighting, pale grey walls and a wooden floor. It’s also completely empty, save for the framed photographs, sketches and paintings hanging on the walls.

“Steve—what?” you ask, confused.

He laughs softly, lacing your fingers together as he tugs you forward. “Surprise!” he says, sweeping his arm around in a huge flourish.

“Surprise for what?”

Steve shrugs. “Well…I wanted to get this done in time for our anniversary a couple’a weeks back, but I had some technical difficulties. So I thought—better late than never, right?”

As he talks, he guides you to the framed photo nearest to your left. You recognise it immediately.

“Aw, our first date,” you murmur, a smile tugging at the corner of your lips as you reach out to touch the corner of the photo; a selfie of the two of you in Prospect Park.

When you’ve looked your fill, Steve takes your hand and brings you to the next framed piece. You remember this one — it’s a sketch of you that Steve drew when you were both on the way home from a mission in Seoul. You’re looking over your shoulder, a soft smile on your face.

The frame after that holds a set of cheesy photobooth pictures taken during a Christmas party that Tony had a few years back. You and Steve had been dating for nearly two months when you took these.

They’re all memories, you realise.

Your smile grows wider with every sketch, selfie, painting and polaroid that you come across. As you and Steve make a slow circuit around the room, you’re able to relive some special moments from your five years together.

There’s that blurry polaroid from Sam’s birthday, and that’s a painting that Steve made when the two of you went to New Zealand. There’s that naughty selfie you sent him when he was stuck in Uzbekistan for a month, and beside it, the photo he sent you in return. Steve’s arranged everything in chronological order, so you’re able to see how your relationship has grown and evolved through the years.

God, has it really only been five years?

“This is the last one,” Steve says quietly, as he guides you to stand in front of a painting hanging by the door. You narrow your eyes in confusion as you study it, because you don’t recognise where it’s from.

It’s a watercolour painting of you standing in front of a floor-to-ceiling window, the sunlight casting a warm glow on your features. The dress you’re wearing looks similar to one you’d worn to a Stark Industries gala dinner earlier this year, except that one had been a pale blue, whereas this one is a crisp white, with lace adorning the bodice and an elegant train pooling by your feet.

Huh. Now that you think about it, you remember seeing a picture like this one in the official photos released from that night. Steve has managed to capture the beatific smile on your face and he’s added some white flowers to your hair and—

“Steve,” you breathe, understanding dawning as the puzzle pieces fall into place.

You turn around and goddammit, there he is, down on one knee, a red velvet box clasped in his outstretched hand. There are tears glistening in his blue eyes and a hopeful smile on his lips.

“Y/N,” he starts, his voice raspy, like he’s on the verge of tears. Steve closes his eyes and huffs out a laugh. “I—I had this whole speech written out and everything but—the truth is, I’m too damn nervous to say a word of it anyway.”

“Honey,” Steve says, the pet name rolling off his tongue as smooth as the substance itself. “Y/N, I’ve loved making all these memories with you. The good ones, the funny ones, the sappy ones—and I wanna keep on makin’ memories with you. For as long as I can. So…will you marry me?”

“Stevie, you didn’t have to do all this,” you whisper, your brain too overwhelmed to process anything right now.

He quirks his lips in a smile. “That’s not a yes.”

“Of course it’s a yes, Steve,” you say thickly, “A thousand times yes, baby, I love you so much.”

Steve’s grin is brighter than any star in the night sky. “I love you too,” he murmurs.

You thrust your left hand forward and in a shaky voice, ask him to put the ring on you.

With trembling hands, he opens the box to reveal a simple gold band with a single diamond at its centre. “It was my ma’s wedding ring,” Steve says softly, as he slips it onto your finger. “It felt right, y’know?”

“I love it,” you declare, as you let yourself be pulled into his arms, your lips finding his in a clumsy but fierce kiss.

Some do and live happily ever after; some don't and continue the cycle. Regardless, if you've noticed a sharp decline in your camera time, it's an opportunity to say

"I've noticed we been drifting apart, and I want to do something about it before it's too late. Do you want to talk about it?"

Don't just ask her what's wrong or call her out for not posting you because, in her heart of hearts, she wants you to know what is wrong even if she hasn't exactly told you. Make it easier for her to give you better hints by opening it up to discussing where your head has been the last few months, and you know that you haven't been all the way there. Hunger master post

Kate Argent’s blonde hair is spread around her like a blood-soaked halo. Her dead, glassy eyes stare at Stiles. It’s not pleasure that spreads through him warmly, but it’s something close enough that it frightens him. Because there should be a line, right? She was going to put a bullet in his head, but there should still be a line. Stiles is afraid that if he crosses it, it he takes delight in this moment, then he’ll be no better than her.

Then again, maybe it’s okay to be happy about it, just for now. Maybe it’s okay to be pleased that the bitch is dead. She wouldn’t have spared a thought for him, would she?

Maybe it’s okay to feel whatever he feels now, and to worry about his conscience tomorrow.

If there’s a tomorrow.

The hunters are still banging on the door.

This isn’t over yet.

And right on cue, Peter Hale slides down onto the floor, black blood pumping out of his chest.

“Gun,” Chris Argent says, his voice terse, going down onto his knees beside Peter.

Stiles blinks at Kate’s gun.

“Gun!”

Stiles scrambles free of Derek to reach forward and grab it. He tries not to look at Kate. Tries not to knock her with his knees when he shuffles over toward Chris. The raven-haired hunter is by the door, one hand braced against it as though that can stop the guys on the other side from forcing it open. Stiles can see his hand shaking as the door vibrates underneath it.

Stiles holds the gun out toward Chris.

He takes it, pulls the clip out, and then he’s digging a small pair of pliers out of one of the million pockets in his black cargo pants and… and cracking open a bullet? He tips the gunpowder out into his cupped hand, and then digs around in another pocket and produces a lighter. Then, still on his knees, he raises himself up a little, sets fire to the gunpowder, and slams the burning mess right into Peter Hale’s chest wound.

Stiles rears back when Peter roars. Peter’s wolf face appears again—a muzzle and fangs—and his claws dig into the tiles.

Derek grabs Stiles and drags him back.

Stiles watches, breathless, as Peter writhes and bucks on the floor. And then, as quickly as it began, it’s over. Peter’s claws retract and his face reforms into human. He slumps back onto the tiles, and he isn’t bleeding anymore. There’s no bullet hole.

“Holy shit,” Stiles whispers.

Chris rests a hand on Peter’s chest, right above his heart, and closes his eyes briefly. Peter gazes up at him, his eyes no longer alpha red.

Stiles, watching them, feels suddenly like a voyeur.

 One night ago

 Chris has never seen an alpha that looks like this one. This one looks like something out of the B-grade horror movies that Kate used to laugh at when she watched them as a kid. Chris didn’t laugh. Nothing funny about werewolves being reduced to cheesy special effects. Not after seeing the real thing.

Right away, our friends came asking if we could put something together for them as well.So, we took everything out of our savings account and got a tiny space at the largest wedding photography expo… which was happening in three weeks at the time.In that time, we created a website, branding, literature, promotional videos, a trade show booth, a prototype unit, sales pitch, pricing, everything. At the show, we sold over 10 booths and doubled that number the week afterwards. A month later, we hand delivered one of the booths to a customer in Vegas and I used that money to buy an engagement ring. We were married six months afterwards.My wife and IFrom that trade show, we just kept spending time to create more resources and more value to help our customers make more money. We started including marketing materials, sample contracts, attendant training videos, educational webinars, and more. Things like that really set the entire product apart, but everybody came to it for the picture quality and portability.Within a short matter of time, we evolved from selling photo booths to selling a turnkey business opportunity, all without any franchise fees or the need for a large initial capital investment.Describe the process of designing, prototyping, and manufacturing the product.I’d argue that no one would buy anything unless it solves a problem. So our job as entrepreneurs is to identify which one we wish to tackle, survey, and then execute.As you can imagine, the process gets much easier when you are encountering the problem yourself. Our photography business was not scalable and unfortunately hit a revenue cap that was hard to break through. Creating additional services was the only way to move past this. Of course, this is where the photobooth came in.LPT (Life Pro Tip): Read UX Strategy: How to Devise Innovative Digital Products that People Want by Jaime Levy.DesignI’m hugely inspired by legendary product designer Dieter Rams. One of his principles that I live by is “Good design is as little design as possible.”Using that strategy, we started with the electronics of the booth that were mandatory (Computer, touch screen, camera, flash, printer, etc.) and devised a product that was the expression of those core components in the most elegant manner possible. Nothing more, nothing less.Moreover, I would draw inspiration from products that have similar functions to yours. I browsed kiosk designs, floor lamps, cameras, robots in sci-fi movies, and more!PrototypeWe did a quick Google search for a local fabricator to create our first alpha unit. Because our initial unit did not need any tooling, we had very low initial costs.An early prototypeKatrina is very glad that we didn’t release this.Within the three weeks leading up to our first trade show, we were able to execute a few rapid prototypes. We started as simple as possible and made things better from there. These quick iterations got us to market quicker and allowed us to do multiple rounds of UX testing which ultimately resulted in a better product.LPT: I’d recommend downloading Sketchup for a hardware product or Sketch for a software product. Use those tools that to make your first round of iterations. It doesn't have to be pretty, but it can communicate more effectively than a napkin sketch or even verbally.Moreover, it may help you discover new opportunities in your design. Doing this before making a prototype and hiring an engineer can save you thousands during the initial phases when you are strapped for cash.ManufactureWe really lucked out because that same fabricator was looking to grow from making one-off parts to a being a large manufacturer. It was a third generation family of welders who gave us the undivided attention we needed despite being a start up and having a low order quantity.In hindsight, we were lucky to start with a US based manufacturer. This removed the issues of language, distance, shipping, tariffs, and customs that come with using an overseas vendor.LPT: Use Maker’s Row, an Alibaba for US based suppliers to aid your search.Describe the process of launching the business.We first started off using Squarespace, which is by far the easiest, cheapest, and most elegant beginner web design solution I’ve ever encountered.Two years of using this service gave us the experiences to know which platform served our needs best. After much evaluation, we switched to Shopify for the powerful integrations and backend experience.I’d highly recommend a couple things:Website AuditHire someone off Fiverr to audit your website. For a few bucks someone will record their experience on your online store and critique it. This is valuable information.Moreover, you can test it with friend and family to see how they’re interacting with it. You want to see if they are clicking the right places and landing where you want them to go.Third Party LogisticsFocus on what you are good at. I doubt your company was built to do logistics well, so find a third party logistics company to pack, store, and ship for you. Amazon does this beautifully as well, but our product was not made for that type of infrastructure.Since launch, what has worked to attract and retain customers?We were lucky enough to have two major sales channels. We attend trade shows and gain customers that way, and we have a strong SEO presence. Let’s talk trade shows first, since they are a pretty big unknown for a lot of businesses.Trade showsA trade show is like having access to hundreds or thousands of hot leads, all at once, and while every competitor is right next to you. It’s brutal, and it’s exhausting, and it’s amazing.You truly have to stand out as a product, and as an experience, and as a company. We might spend $10,000 on a space and another $10,000 on staff, setup materials, and experience. Then we still have to have a show special and use that to drive sales. The margins get a lot tighter, but if you’re picking good shows, the kind your current customers go to, you’re going to do well.That’s the best advice I can give for picking shows—just ask your customers where they’re going to be, and go there. Partially to sell, and partially to meet your people in person. You can never spend enough time getting to know your customers. There is no more valuable time you can spend on your business than learning how to truly help people with what you do.We love attending photography focused trade shows. I think photographers are probably some of the most creative entrepreneurs out there. There is the business side, which takes a remarkable amount of creative skill, and there’s the actual photography.When you get a chance to talk to them, they realize very quickly that they’re entrepreneurs at heart and we’re a great solution!The best advice I can give anyone looking to stand out at a trade show is to make a booth that you’d want to go into. I know it’s pretty common and boring advice, but let think about it--what kind of trade show booth would you want to go into? And if the answer is, “I wouldn’t go to a trade show” then you should hire a marketing director to handle this part.Trade shows don’t have to be your thing to be profitable. Your company should mirror your spirit and interests, but sometimes we all have to do the things that are necessary for success.Moreover, there is a wonderful opportunity to iterate on your sales pitch. You are sometimes talking to dozens of people in person every day. By seeing their body language and how they interact with your product, you can immediately tell what aspects of your pitch are effective. By the end of it, you should have some solid strategies for your sales reps, ads, and website.SEOSEO is a pretty difficult world to understand. I suggest finding the best talent you can and letting them do what they’re best at.Sometimes that means bringing the service in house, sometimes it involves an outside agency. For us, the ROI on our spend here is huge. It goes back to what I said about picking the trade show your customers attend. Pick the channel your customers use.Don’t worry about what you like, where you think you’ll find them, or anything like that. We started hearing from our customers that they found us by searching and so we had to honor that. It has worked very well. The kind of entrepreneur who does research and compares their options tends to land with us. That’s great. Our SEO has changed alongside Google, of course.When we got started, a lot of people found us through our photography company. They eventually started landing on us for searches about which photobooths had the best picture quality. It’s a natural transition for sure. Trust is big with Google, and people immediately trusted a photographer to have made a great photobooth. It makes sense.How are you doing today and what does the future look like?We are doing fantastic! The launch of Queso, our flagship photo booth, really brought photobooths a huge step forward.I love to share that over 80% of Queso’s early adopters already owned our previous photobooth. Those are loyalty numbers comparable with Apple! Apple was at 86% on phones last year, and for car companies, Subaru was best at 67%. I could go on about stats forever.We have a 97% customer satisfaction rate on the post support surveys we send out. Globally that number is 86%. That all comes from us putting a focus on customer experience.Speaking of that customer experience, I think that a lot of questions tend to come up around the profit margins on something like a photobooth. How much of that $1,100 booking fee ends up in the pocket of our owners? We’d look at a booking fee like that and break it down like this in a very general sense:$1,100 - FeeIndividual Costs$100 - Attendant wages$15 - Paper for the printer$15 - Gas and transportation$10 - Misc (Business cards, equipment wear and tear, lost props)Amortized Costs$25 - Software$20 - Website Hosting$10 - Yearly Business Registration Costs$905 - ProfitMost people look at a breakdown like that and ask where to sign up. It’s not always that easy, or that clean cut. You do have to pay taxes. But there’s no reason to see this as a side hustle rather than a profession, if you put in the work. Four events a month is just somewhere to start. We have tons of owners with 6 or 8 booths. They’re working 300+ days a year.My biggest fear was that photo booths were a trend, but that’s just simply not the case. Our company has been growing every year since our inception and 2018 is looking to be the best year yet. We see this growth not only in private events, but also in retail locations, restaurants, nightclubs, and any other location where there’s a gathering of people.The future is exciting. We haven’t been resting at all, we have already gone into beta on an upcoming product for a completely different market segment. I can’t say too much about it, but it’s going to have a massive impact on the industry as a whole. I’m so excited that it’s going to be on the market soon, and it’s somewhere we’ll really be able to expand the horizons of Photobooth Supply Co.Through starting the business, have you learned anything particularly helpful or advantageous?Action over InactionI’m a big fan of saying yes and figuring out how to do it later. I understand that this method is highly controversial, but it forces you to figure out a way to accomplish goals under unreasonable circumstances.Stop being in your head and start taking action. The more you let things stop you, the more things can stop you. Sometimes it’s okay to be unreasonable!Develop a RoutineMore than likely you will be working from home. You can gain a lot of productivity from building out a routine for yourself.I find that waking up the same time, showering, getting dressed, and drinking that coffee at the same times every morning will allow you to stay focused throughout the day.It’s also a really good idea to segment your web browsers. You can use Chrome for business logins and Firefox for personal ones. It saves you a ton of time and helps keep you from browsing Reddit instead of working!Self AwarenessIt’s difficult to grow your company without discovering what it’s lacking. To do that, you will need to understand your strengths and weaknesses.If you’re like me, you’ve probably never taken the time to sit down and think about that. Luckily, there are wonderful tools out there like StrengthsFinder, Myers-Briggs, and the DISC assessment that access that for you.Once you discover your double edged sword, you’ll know what to delegate and whom to hire. My double edged sword was impatience and optimism, so I surrounded myself with meticulous pessimists. They consistently bring value to our meetings and overall strategy.In the beginning stages this might mean figuring out what tasks to farm out to services like Fiverr or a Virtual Assistant. A fantastic book to read is of course, The 4 Hour Workweek.What tools do you use for your business?I don’t think we use anything unique on the grand scale. We host our online store on Shopify, we do customer support through Zendesk, have HubSpot as a CRM…I’d really like to make a suggestion here. Go with the best tools. It’s never worth holding your entire business back to save 10 or 20 bucks a month on an inferior platform. When the numbers get really big, like they do with HubSpot, you can definitely assess that platform constantly.For us, every time we do a review, we fall back in love with most of our tools. Anything that we aren’t using, we cut. We broke up with Later as soon as Instagram included scheduling tools. We just recently stopped using our VOIP platform because HubSpot offered recorded calls, and they were clearer. It would have cost more, but we negotiated on price until it cost less. Win-win!We now have over 15 team members who mostly work remote. Luckily, we use tools like Slack, Flow, Google Hangouts, and Google Drive to ensure that communication and tasks are transparent throughout the company despite not being physically next to each other.To increase the amount of interactivity, we deemed it mandatory to have all meetings done over Hangouts. This aids the loneliness that can come from working remote and increases communication through the use of body language.Don’t be afraid to negotiate the price of many of the services you use. It’s one of the best tips I can give you. Paying up front for a full year? Sometimes that’s worth 20% or more off the total price, as long as you talk to an agent about it.Need only a single feature from a higher tier of a SaaS service? Ask for it to be included with your current tier. This book can single handedly increase the size of your business tenfold just by making you think from a different perspective.Building Your Storybrand - Hands down the best book on marketing I’ve ever read.Advice for other entrepreneurs who want to get started or are just starting out?There are two schools of thought here. I could tell you how to avoid all the mistakes that I made, or I could tell you to make mistakes. I personally believe in the latter. If you go out and try to truly achieve great things, you’ll survive a few hiccups along the way.Our first trade show went smoothly, but there were so many things going on behind the scenes that went wrong. Any product launch is really just the sum of all the overcome failures.At the same time, you’ve probably heard that advice before. Let me talk a little bit about building a team, since it’s a difficult and complex topic. Here are a few suggestions.Hire people who can disagree with you. If everyone you hire thinks exactly the same way, you’re never going to get the feedback you need to confirm or reject an idea.In hindsight, Katrina’s analytical and pessimistic outlook on life perfectly balanced my impatience and optimism. If it wasn’t for these clashing perspectives our business would have been bound for failure. Always hire someone who can challenge you and isn’t afraid to do it. We were very fortunate that we had this naturally from our relationship.Hire people that you think are 11/10. Don’t tolerate anything less than being blown away every day. Let other companies hire people who phone it in. You deserve the best employees, and you should pay and compensate them fairly for turning in work of the highest caliber.Hire slow, fire fast. Don’t be afraid to move on from someone who shouldn’t be there any more. We give everyone chances to improve and learn. If they aren’t invested in turning things around, they aren’t invested in the company. I can’t have that.Build a culture deck and a set of core values. We use our culture deck as part of an interview, letting people suggest a new slide they’d like to add.
