Both : Twisted from the Blue Caterpillar from Alice in Wonderland
Because I can, yk
Einar Muscaria, better known as Professor Muscaria, is a Royal Sword Academy Professor who teaches Logical Analysis– More likely, Psychology.
30+ and a single Father of one
His unique magic lets him create illusions from smokes that come from his "mouth". Simple but no name yet 💔
He appears calm and collected with that poker-face expression on his face, but he has temperamental issues, so better not piss him off...
Nestor Jada Muscaria,
Is a 3rd Year student in RSA.
He was sorted in the dormitory that is the opposite of Heartslabyul, probably a white queen one... but I'm quite terrible to name things... Enigmaville???
Despite being twisted from the blue caterpillar, he is also twisted from the blue butterfly
The art is kinda old... I meant by, last year-ish rhrhrhrhrhr
Also... I supposed to upload my Shroud arts here instead of ocs... but ehhhhhhh

mini update
I think im in a creative burnout rn,, i havent been really satisfied with my art and i feel like my progress has been stagnant. i have no idea on what direction i should take it. do i focus on rendering? should i adhere to a more specific style? should i make it more realistic or should i play with my proportions? do i make the lineart less visible or should i lean more into it? it's all basically a midlife identity crisis of my art or something idk if that makes any sense ajebd
im also just not sure how to overcome a burnout or like how to take a break??? i would always feel uncomfortable and guilty for not doing anything productive like i want to do something but everything i draw is not up to my standards so i trash most of my stuff or just leave it unfinished (well to be fair im very hard on myself, especially these past few days) so i just kinda have no idea what to do??
and another thing is, im not super into dol anymore :[ i mean it was eventually bound to happen, im surprised i even lasted this long lol i might make the occasional fanart here and there if i feel like it (most likely answering an old ask), but that's not the main thing i'll be drawing from now on :c i might post more ocs or more of that puppygirl stuff since ppl seem to like it and i enjoy drawing it too so yea,,
i'm also probably gonna stray further away from like super dark media. i mean dont get me wrong, i still like drawing dead dove stuff and being my degenerate self but i realized that ive been interacting with dark media on a practically daily basis now and its really fucking up my psyche and im probably consuming an unhealthy amount of it (well for me at least, i know people can handle much darker stuff but yeah). like i recognise i like fucked up shit but i dont want it to be normalised to me and accidentally skew my moral compass. (basically im in my metaphorical grass touching era) so ill probably do more sfw stuff here from now on :] which is super funny since the goal of my goretober prompt list was to desensitise myself from like super hardcore stuff but it ended up doing the exact opposite LMAODBQ rip
but thanks for reading all this ! it was pretty lengthy, so i do apologize for that. i hope you have a wonderful day 💛

if you had to give any advice to someone wanting to write an interactive fiction story, what would it be? (take ur time, no rush, im just curious, i myself read tons of them and get sad when i like a premise or the story doesnt get updates n all that, i wanna eventually write one myself and avoid giving ppl the sad feeling i get when i find smth that sounds fun only to see its been years or the writing isnt what i thought itd be)
Makes sure its an idea you're excited for and would want to stick with. Legitimately don't write it immediately. You have to be excited for it and want to keep at it.
Yeah a fun idea is great but will you keep at it after a month of mulling it over? You have to make sure it has other good ideas you're excited for in there too.
Its why I do think there are all those WIPS on Itch.io, because they get excited for the main idea they have for it but don't feel excited for the smaller parts of the game.
But a big part is that you want to write a game that you would want to play. For example, some of my favourite games have really fun dynamics with your companions, i.e Baldur's Gate, Mass Effect etc, and should have the ability to have a dedicated hang out event.
I adored Dragon Age Origins, for the... Well, origins you get to pick in the game, and how it can impact future gameplay. So, I wanted to have something similar to Tabris, Cousland etc.
I liked Wayhaven a lot but I didn't like that the RO's are all vampires but do not act as such. They could just be "demons" that feed off blood, because they don't act at all like vampires. They go in the sun, they don't seem to care that much about blood, etc etc So I wanted to have any vampire ROs being actual... Yknow, vampires. Take S Della Rovere out in the sun and they will burst into flame, and so all their hang outs have to be done at night.
I fuckin love DoL, and it isn't a linear game, but I enjoyed the sandbox qualities and the sexual content, so I wanted similar aspects.
Also I just like the regency era, I like the supernatural, I like murder mysteries and I like seeing relationships after the actual first flirt and get together etc.
You have to find a way to put a lot of what you want to see and do into your interactive fiction, and you gotta take inspiration where you can.
It has to be something you want to return to, even when time has passed.

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN
learning to code mainly
So a few weeks back i got back in my choice of games kick and started slowly relearning how to code, yes i took computer science in school, shoot me. But ive started making actual progress today but yes so umhhhhh
i've been quietly planning out my own choice of script game, just because i love the fallen hero, wayhaven and the creme de la creme books from choice of script. the huge kick off was really when the third book came out, but i was writing the story pre amazing book drop
SO YEAH, IM REALLY SORRY. I HAVE BEEN FOCUSING ON THE GAME, THE DOL UPDATE, COMMISSIONS, PATREON, and like... I've been a bastard
I've not been spending enough time writing for the very reason Im back to doing ALL OF THE ABOVE. You guys. On my inky blog.
I legit adore all of you, the stupid silly asks i get, to the questions to just... the fun shit. The omega hunt collab was so fun to organise, and it gave me courage to reach out to some of my favourite writers, several of which im sharing servers with and playing dnd week to week and on holidays with.
So i am... So damn sorry ive been doing all of this other shit. Im gonna try and find space, because THERE'S THINGS I WANNA FINISH.
the omega hunt with the prison guards, the shared by three au, everything. recently the gay and homophobic bully whitney, which ive got some delicious snippets of.
lEGIT, deepest apologies from me. i mainly got really excited that i could make a game, alongside a project undead fishman and i are having fun planning, which is yes, porn game, hush.
I promised to be more active after the winter depression era, and i feel bad that im not around, especially when i do upload and i see all my regulars scuttling in to have a nibble.
SO, i really want to come through for all of you. I need to finish my commissions, currently working on a nasty arthur morgan one, which im nearly done with. im also planning the choice of script game, along with dedicated two days with patreon and also having some ideas for a future dol update i have yet to chat about in the server but its on my mind.
REMEMBER. Inky might be busy but they are also never that far away from thinking about all you lovely people!
mwah!

NOSTALGIAMARE 13: FLASH FILES EDITION
(NOTE: FLASH FILES ARE NEW ENTRIES IN NOSTALGIAMARE WHERE I LOOK AT A SELECTION OF FLASH/SHOCKWAVE GAMES FROM THE ERAS I STATE. I WILL ADD IN COMMENTARY THROUGH THE PLAYTHROUGHS SO AS A RESULT THESE ENTRIES WILL NOT HAVE MOD THOUGHTS-)
NAME: MY SCENE
COMPANY/FRANCHISE: MATTEL
MY SCENE
CATEGORY: GAME (FLASH/WEB BROWSER)
YEAR: 2003 - 2006?
DESCRIPTION: A selection of 5 flash browser games that were available on the My Scene website to promote the spin off Barbie doll line. These games utilised Adobe Flash and were only playable up until the doll’s discontinuation and the site’s shutdown in 2011. All 5 of these games were archives, but due to the discontinuation of Flash in 2021, these games are only accessible via Flashpoint, Pale Moon and Ruffle.
Special thanks to @web-back-then for archiving and downloading the SWF files for a few of these games >w0
GAME 1: BEAUTY STUDIO
Tumblr media
Given that these games from the get go already have instructions, I don’t need to explain too much of it. This first game is essentially one of those browser based point and click make up games. First you choose a character (I picked Nolee) and then you go wild with your choices.
Tumblr media
(As you can see by this beautiful nightmare, we’re off to a great start!)
Tumblr media
There are three sections of this game that you can complete. There’s hair, makeup and jewellery. To select hair, you click on a style from the book, click on a hair colour, click on a hair streak and click on a barrette to choose. Choices on barrette can be optional.
Tumblr media
Next is makeup. Just like hair you just click on whatever blush, eyeshadow, mascara, contacts and lipstick you want. Once again a few choices are optional.
Tumblr media
Finally there’s jewellery choices (Which only makes me more confused on how tf jewellery is really spelled-). Again you just repeat clicking choices. Whether it be earrings, necklaces, face jewels and glasses. Once more choices can be optional.
Tumblr media
(The moment of truth. Looks like a female John Lennon lol-)
Now that the game is over you can now either print a makeover guide (And risk breaking your computer lol) or play again. Though it depends on if you feel like it’s worth it.
GAME 2: DAZZLING NAILS
Think of the previous game but give one of the sections more depth and doing more than just clicking on whatever. That’s Dazzling Nails. Another simple cursor-capable beauty game.
Tumblr media
Once again this game came with easy instructions so I won’t explain too much.
Tumblr media
All you need to do is pick a character and then just go manic with the ideas. Your giving a variety of nail polish, stick on items and rings. Just click on them, move them to wherever nail you want and place them on. You can also choose a nail size in case your jealous of having short nails and want longer ones (haha funny joke). If you want to undo something, use the nail polish remover.
Tumblr media
No. I do not know what I was going for.
Tumblr media
Once your done with that your given the option to play with another character or print out the set of nails you just created, cut them out and stick them on your nails. It may seem sad but trust me, it was the closest the target demographic was gonna get to making their nails look “cool” for a while.
GAME 3: FASHION DESIGNER
Tumblr media
From the info I found, this one was actually available by accessing Chelsea’s diary on the old website, which explains why the main layout looks different compared to the other 2 games. But we’ll still look at it because it was on the main games section.
Tumblr media
Much like Dazzling Nails this is another creative fashion game that features a wide variety of designs. All you do is pick a character, use the arrows to scroll through a set of tops, bottoms, shoes and bags and click on one of the colours and patterns to colour in a certain part of those outfits.
Hmmm... Does this look familiar to me 0_0?
Tumblr media
(ITS A JOKE BRATZ FANS DON’T GO NUTS AT ME PLS-)
Tumblr media
Ngl I had a bit of fun with this one.
Tumblr media
Once you are finished you are given the opportunity to print the designs out and make a paper doll version of what you have created. You know JUST in case you guys forgot this was from a fashion doll line.
GAME 4: ROOM MAKEOVER
Tumblr media
Ever wanted to feel like an interior designer? Well these types of games are for you. Im serious too a lot of the fashion doll line games I’ve seen have a few type of these games. This is one of them.
Tumblr media
Your given two rooms to choose from. A bedroom and a party room. No I do not know why they call it a party pad, so I went with bedroom.
Tumblr media
Once you picked what you want to decorate, you are given a variety of colours and furniture to choose from. All you gotta do is click on whichever one you want and it will be placed in the background. If your not happy with the room you can always press the very glitched clear button to start again.
Tumblr media
Did I mention that this game is kinda broken?
Once you’ve finished you are given the choice to print out your room or try a new look. Barbie is also generous enough to give you a present which is a picture of her and her friends. Probably either because you need to feel like you have them or she wants to rub it in your face.
GAME 5: SHOPPING SPREE
Tumblr media
The last game of the bunch. Very simple. A game all about fashion, dressing up and screaming to their audience “BUY OUR DOLL LINE!”. This one was actually one of two games that were so popular that they got rebrands towards the end of the doll line (The other being Beauty Studio), so at least they did a good job with the games.
Tumblr media
You are given a choice between 8 different doll lines from the brand to choose from (BUY OUR DOLL LINE!). For example, I went with Bling Bling.
Tumblr media
You get to use two of the characters to dress up (I went with Chelsea and Nolee).
Tumblr media
This is where the dress up part comes in. You are given a set of accessories, tops, bottoms, shoes and extra materials that all come from the specific doll line (BUY OUR DOLL LINE!). The game gives us more creativity given that we have to dress up both of them.
Tumblr media
Once you’ve picked your choices, your characters will appear on a wide background based on the doll line (BUY OUR DOLL LINE!). You are given the choice to print it out or try another fashion... Yeah I think we’re done here.
CONCLUSION: I won’t say these games offer anything new to the table as they just seem to follow the same mechanics and idea. Customise or create a certain something with a point, drag and/or click. On the other hand it doesn’t mean they aren’t nostalgic as many have grown up with these games. In a way they do still hold up, as they showcase what could be done in the early days of Flash and web browser content. Overall they are not big games with a lot of variety and are there for a bit of a cash grab, but maybe that’s not a bad thing. They are just simple and wholesome games from the early and mid 2000s that can make any kid intrigued for even 5 minutes, even if they are there to sell the brand.

Happy Humpday Ya'll! Coming at you on a Wednesday with a different type of post. Today, I'm gonna talk about some new lines that are coming out from Barbie that I'm super excited about. Let's get into it!
Warning: This post may be long!
The first line that I'm excited about is the Barbie Loves The Ocean collection!
Tumblr media
[source]
This line consist of 3 dolls in summer apparel, which is timely! These girls look so dope! But you know what is more dope?! This line of dolls marks a new Era of innovative and sustainable thinking over at Barbie. Barbie has partnered with 4Ocean, an organization with a mission to help protect our oceans. You are looking at the very first line of Barbie dolls that are made from 90% ocean-bound recycled plastic!!  The doll heads, shoes, and some accessories are excluded.
And it doesn’t end there! Barbie is securing a sustainable future by setting the goals to reach 95% of recycled paper or wood fiber in their packaging, by 2021. And by 2030, Barbie aims to achieve 100% recycled, recyclable or bio-based plastic materials in their products and packaging. Barbie wants to use this initiative to promote sustainability and inspire change. Carlyle Nuera (Lead Designer for Barbie Signature at Mattel) is one of the named designers of this collection. This is the same artist who helmed the BMR 1959 collection.
Tumblr media
[source]
Barbie Loves the Ocean is now on Barbie’s website. The dolls and beach sets are available for sale at Target, Amazon and Walmart. The price point of these dolls are range from $7.94-$9.99. Walmart being the cheapest...*wink wink*
The next line that I'm hype about is the Barbie Fashionistas 2021 Wave 2 dolls!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[source] |  [source]
I've been seeing pictures of them circulate social media and certain doll websites but they aren't listed on Barbie's website yet. I definitely love what Judy Choi (Design Manager for Barbie EXTRA & Barbie Fashionistas) and Minh-tam Nguyen (Face Designer @ Barbie) did with the first wave 2021 Fashionistas as a whole. With this line in particular, I only gravitated towards two or three of these dolls. Nonetheless, I think they did a fantastic job with consistency of new dolls, new fashions and new personalities! I’ve seen the Barbie and Ken Fashionistas 2021 Wave 2 dolls available on Amazon so far. FYI, A traditional price point for a Fashionista is $9.99. So don’t let Amazon try to take you for a fool! *side eye*
When the first wave dropped of this next line I'm going to talk about, I was completely over the moon! The fashions! The creativity! The EXTRA!
Tumblr media
[source]
I'm talking about the Barbie® EXTRA collection! And Wave 2 is coming real soon!!
Tumblr media
For months I've seen this unofficial image circulate on the internet. Recently, official pictures were released for the first 3 dolls that are coming out, Barbie® Extra Dolls #6, #7 and #8.
Tumblr media
[source]
Barbie® Extra Dolls #6, #7 and #8 aren't listed on Barbie's website yet. Upon my research, I did see two new surprises on the Barbie Extra page!! Get ready for it! A Barbie® Extra Doll & Accessories Set (currently priced at $34.99 according to Barbie, fyi) and a Barbie® Extra Doll & Vanity Playset with Exclusive Doll ( currently priced at $59.99 according to Barbie, fyi)!
Tumblr media
[source]
Tumblr media
[source]
Not sure which of the Barbie Extra line will come out first from all of the news and updates but I know I'm here for all of it! And you'll see soon enough when I'm able to get my hands on em. I’m impatiently waiting for more information and official pictures for what I assume will be Barbie® Extra Dolls #9 and #10!! According to YouLoveIt.com, there are expected to drop in September. The first three dolls of Barbie® EXTRA Wave 2 are available on Amazon but DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT SPEND $50 for any of those dolls! The EXTRA dolls traditionally have a price point of $24.99. Amazon be tripping, don’t mind them. Just be patient! *eye rolls*
Lastly, this is the kicker!!! Barbie & Mattel truly want to take all of my money! (F capitalism! lol) This doll line has been buzzing around social media for a minute but it has just official dropped today on Barbie's website.
I give you the Barbie Looks™ collection!!!
Tumblr media
[source]
This new line is brought to us by Barbie® Signature Lead Designer, Bill Greening and Mattel Art Director Zlatan Kusnoor. They are so dope and modern!!! I'm digging the black and white apparel. Its very minimalist and refreshing! They’re like miniature fashion models! I'm digging the diversity and individuality of each doll! Not to mention this collection brings us 6 brand-new face sculpts and they’re on made-to-move bodies!!! If ya’ll have read my posts and pictures, you’ll learn quickly that I completely adore m2m bodies! I know other doll collectors and enthusiasts can appreciate this!
The Barbie Looks™ dolls available on Amazon but DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT SPEND $50 for any of those dolls! According to Barbie’s website, the Barbie Looks™ dolls have a price point of $19.99 and will be in August. Plus these dolls are going to be available at various retailers by then.
I truly enjoy seeing how Barbie has been changing and growing in positive directions. I’m supposed to be going on a day trip in July. And one of my stops is going to be Walmart. I hope to acquire some Barbie loot and I’ll be sure to report back here lol. Even if its just me. Til next time ✌🏾

This visual essay series by dionetaofavalon.tumblr.com [ this post in particular ] made me think.
I know it was supposed to be all secret and everything… but let’s play devil’s advocate––or Morgoth’s advocate, if you would prefer––for a moment and work under the theory: what if Thranduil did know that Galadriel had a ring of power…
And, likewise, he knew that Elrond had one…
Would that not explain some of the tension between Thranduil and the other realms?
Out of wariness and general distrust, he isolates his own realm, aside from a few correspondences/agreements with Laketown. And he’s (whether deliberately or not) excluded from the White Council, though he also likely lived at least at the end of the First Age and was old enough by the Second Age to have fought at the Dagorlad against Sauron, et cetera. WHERE ELROND ALSO WAS. Would that not lend some level of respect to him that he might be included, if only via letters as I doubt he would willingly/without great reluctance leave his realm?
Now, while I can see him being more forgiving of Elrond––both within my backstory with @ofgoldcnflowcrs / @ofmarchwardcns / @ofcldcrdays and outside of it––is it really any wonder that he isolates himself and his realm? To some extent, on top of just being wary and distrustful in general, I’m sure he’s maybe just a little bitter that he and his people got the short end of the stick.
Imladris is protected.
Lothlórien is protected.
And then Thranduil has to deal with damn giant spiders and darkness-twisted woods. Perils that Galadriel––for all of her meddling in the affairs of Middle Earth, and Mithrandir’s as well for that matter––has never offered to purge or make any attempt to aid him in its protection. (Which, ostensibly, could very well have helped to prevent the death of his wife, had such measures been taken, though that’s more of a hypothetical situation.)
Neither was any attempt––to the reader/viewer’s knowledge––made to ask help or advice of Thranduil at the time of the various Council meetings.
[ NOTE: Within RP on my old account, there is an exception to this in my arrow & the song verse with @ofgoldcnflowcrs wherein Glorfindel likely has to practically beg him to journey from his halls to wherever the meeting is being held to share with Galadriel and Elrond what he has seen for himself… only for Saruman to be there––unexpected and uninvited––to try to dispel every concern, and when that fails to make Thranduil pause, he then verbally tears him apart and trivializes him as he has done to Gandalf and to Radagast and makes him seem every bit the eccentric and foolish king with far too much fondness of wine that I’m sure some rumors have made him, causing Thranduil to level a, “I came here against my better judgment and this is how I am treated. I have had enough of this farce.” at Galadriel and Elrond before storming out with every intention of returning to his halls. ]
On top of excluding Thranduil from Councils, when the battles happen in War of the Ring Era, Lothlórien deals with its own issues––understandably, as it undergoes heavy assault from the enemy––but, again, Thranduil’s people are left to fend for themselves. So while that works out well enough obviously as the legions only made the mistake of attacking Thranduil ONCE, it still seems a little odd.
(Though it also proves, as being able to bring back even a third of his army out of the mess that was Dagorlad, that Thranduil is not only an able king, but a skilled leader in battle as well, likely a tactician to some degree, or at least willing to listen to advisers and military commanders who are tacticians. And we already know my headcanon about him basically being a quick-draw with a blade and fearsome in combat.)
But, really, how much more does that say about Thranduil that he’s the only one of the three major realms remaining who doesn’t have a Ring of Power?
And consider that, of all the (elven) realms, his is perhaps closest to multiple of the Very Bad™ dangers/perils and therefore more at risk than others as it is.
Here is a map of Middle Earth.
Tumblr media
For the purpose of this, let’s narrow down the focus. Here’s a cropped map with the three ‘realms’ highlighted: Imladris (blue), Lórien (gold), and Mirkwood (green).
(NOTE: I’ve had to approximate the location a little with the latter as it was not marked on this map, so where I’ve colored may not be 100% accurate.)
Tumblr media
Now let’s look at what perils surround each realm.
First, Lothlórien.
Tumblr media
Lórien is close to the mountains, closer to Mordor itself, and closest to Dol Guldur. But, Galadriel has a ring that offers a great deal of protection to the land and her people. To the extent that, while orcs may raid and cause the loss of lives on the outskirts with the wardens, or that they may even attempt something bold, no true trouble has come from Dol Guldur. For her and her people. Because the darkness of the forest cannot reach them.
Next, Imladris.
Tumblr media
Imladris is closest, I believe, to the Misty Mountains and the dangers that lurk there. And while Imladris may indeed be closer to Gundabad as the crow flies, it’s closer across/over the mountain chain rather than across wide open plains and dark woods where anything could lie in wait. And again, there is a ring of power there. Not only that, however, but also there dwells Glorfindel who––by the generally accepted account, I believe––is a reborn Lord of Gondolin, sent back by the Valar with great Power and Light. Power and Light enough to chase away Ring-Wraiths.
Now, to Mirkwood.
Tumblr media
Thranduil, on the other hand, his realm is near enough to Gundabad to pose a problem (especially if you do keep the movie canon that his wife was killed there, as I do). His next door neighbor is a dragon. And he and his people were forced to move from where they had originally settled, if I remember correctly, because of the reach of Dol Guldur, which happens to be in the very same forest, even though Lórien is––again, as the crow flies––closer.
On top of that, Thranduil’s forest itself has been twisted by the shadow of Sauron (who nobody believes has returned), and the spiders––if not orcs as well––assail his people and make, what once was the Greenwood, come to be known as Mirkwood.
It becomes even worse when you take into consideration the mindset of Thranduil and his people, whether truly a valid threat or not:
❛ The king’s cave was his palace, and the strong place of his treasure, and the fortress of his people against their enemies.
It was also the dungeon of his prisoners. So to the cave they dragged Thorin––not too gently, for they did not love dwarves, and thought he was an enemy. In ancient days they had had wars with some of the dwarves, whom they accused of stealing their treasure. ❜ [ The Hobbit, Pocket Edition; page 155 ]
Coupled with the actual movie (insomuch as it might be allowed), the Iron Hills could also very easily be added to the list of dangers (and/or perceived dangers):
Tumblr media
Yet, despite everything, he keeps his people safe and cared for and as happy as they can be under the circumstances, at least enough that they feel free––in the book––to hold festivals and parties out in the forest. He is impressive enough as a ruler, that Tolkien makes a point of writing into the Hobbit,
❝ In a great cave some miles within the edge of Mirkwood on its eastern side there lived at this time their greatest king. ❞  [ The Hobbit, Pocket Edition; page 154 ]
Which would at least imply that he was held in some reverence and respect, if only by his own people.
All of that, without a Ring of Power, without anything that would have aided in his endeavors besides his own ability as a King.
I know I’ve somewhat combined book and movie-adaption into this post––and into the way that I portray Thranduil––but I think regardless of media, it’s worth noting. There are aspects of things that I’ve mentioned here, even in the films, though it is more difficult to see due to the butchery of the writers and He Who Shall Not Be Named (and likely open to interpretation even still).
I suppose I just find that rather impressive for a character who most people––including the writers and HWSNBN––turn into a villain or into a parody or the punchline of a joke.

Tips for leveling DoH & DoL
I am fondly known by my friends as "that guy who's obsessed with crafting and also Ishgard", so I'm ecstatic about getting to enjoy both those things in Shadowbringers. And I've been hearing a lot of my friends excited about the latter wanting to catch up with the former so they're ready to participate! I love crafting so much I've capped classes on 4 alts... so having leveled multiple times, I thought I'd share some of my thoughts and tips -- not a detailed how-to guide (though maybe I'll try to write one of those someday), but broader opinions about what strategies to take. This is geared more to DoH than DoL (which is more self-explanatory IMO) but I'll include thoughts on DoL too.
I learned how to craft back in the 2.5 era from GameFAQs and from ffxivguild -- though I can't easily recommend the latter anymore because their ads and autoplay videos have gotten really aggressive. If I find a good, current guide I'll add a link here.
Other resources well-loved by me or friends are Crafting as a Service for shopping lists and leveling planning, Ariyala for gearing, FFXIV Teamcraft for their endgame-invaluable simulator, and Garlandtools Bell for unspoiled nodes.
So let's see. What would my general tips be for people who are picking up DoH and DoL now in anticipation of Shadowbringers?
Your leveling options
There are lots of different ways for you to level your DoH and L, so if you hate one there's sure to be another option. Some of them, and my thoughts on the pros and cons of the different methods:
Class Quests. I strongly recommend doing your class quests as you unlock them! They give nice lumps of experience, shards/crystals for DoH, and gear (albeit NQ gear, so inferior to what you could make yourself). You should especially do 60-70, Stormblood era quests as you unlock them, as they give you powerful new traits and abilities. Of course, you have to fill the gaps between class quests with something:
Grinding. Just makin' stuff from your Crafting Log or gathering from your Gathering Log, or hanging out at a level-appropriate fishing hole and fishing. Potentially boring, but can actually add up to nice chunks of EXP, especially under Rested and with the aid of Engineering Manuals/Survival Manuals. (More on them later.)
Leveling DoH through grinding is probably your most expensive option, not only in terms of gil spent on the MB but retainer space used to store those materials.
Synthesize (manually crafting) gives more experience than Quick Synthesis -- if I understand correctly, the more steps you use in a craft the more experience you get, up to a point renofmanyalts says you get more exp the more you fill your Quality bar, which makes a lot more sense!
You can recover some of your gil by selling the items you make, so a little time researching what you can make at your level that sells well may be profitable in several ways.
Leveling DoL through grinding, on the other hand, is potentially a way to make money, if there's a high-demand item in the right level range.
You'll get more experience for HQ items and by maintaining a chain (i.e., not missing an item).
Since you can start and stop grinding whenever you want, you can use it both if you have lots or limited time to play. But I wouldn't recommend it as your primary method!
Grand Company Supply and Provisioning. One item requested each day for each class. You get a very nice chunk of experience, doubled if HQ, with a further bonus to starred items.
I like the GC as a leveling method. They usually take the length of one food buff (<= 30 minutes for all eight DoH classes, plus an additional <= 30 minutes for all three DoL classes), which is a manageable amount of chores per day. You get GC seals, which can be spent on manuals, Cordials, squadron missions, etc., to further help you.
You are limited to one item per class per day, so once you've handed in your day's items, you have to find something else to do. It's great if you play every day, but if you have a lot of playtime on just a few days of the week you may not be able to take the same advantage.
You do have to buy and store the materials, and since the assignment each day is random, it may take up a lot of retainer space.
Levequests/guildleves. While technically limited by your leve allowances (which can be checked at the bottom of your journal), you get 3 allowances every 12 hours and you can store up to 100, and you've gotta really grind leves to spend 100 leve allowances. They give nice chunks of experience, doubled for HQ.
"Levekits" are bundles of items sold by higher-level crafters and fishers which, when handed in to levemetes, get you enough experience to bump you up to the target level (50, 60, etc.) They're an option -- and if you really must be level 70 today, they're your only option -- but I don't really recommend them. If you learn to craft yourself while you level, you'll understand how the abilities work together and won't be overwhelmed by buttons at cap. Even if you intend only to craft at cap using other people's macros, a little bit of knowledge will help you troubleshoot and improve them.
If you take advantage of DoH leves, I would recommend you make the items yourself instead, gaining experience both for the crafting and for the turn-in. You will have to buy/gather the materials, but since you can decide what leves you're going to target in advance and just get materials for those, storage is not as problematic.
MIN and BTN leves send you to a location to gather key items that are handed in at the end of the leve, sometimes with special targets (changing what actions you'd spend your GP on). For the time invested you get more exp than just grinding, but you don't have items to sell at the end of it.
Large-Scale Temple Knight leves (marked with "(L)" in the levequest name) are generally considered not worth your time because they take 10x the allowances and only give 3x the exp.
You can do as many leves as you want per day as long as you have the allowances, so you can take advantage if you've got a lot or a little time.
Beast Tribes. You can get DoH exp from the Ixal (intended for level 1-50) and the Moogles (50-60), and either DoH or DoL from the Namazu (60-70). You're limited by Beast Tribe Daily Quest Allowances (12 per day for any beast tribes of your choice) and the number of quests that tribe offers (Ixal start with Deliverance, which is sort of like a bonus daily GC supply mission + 3 dailies, and progressively more are offered as you level up; Moogles and Namazu normally gives you 3 a day, but you get a bonus 3 on days your Reputation ranks up.) They give nice, moderate lumps of exp.
One of the great advantages of beast tribes is that you are given the materials for the item(s) required by the quest, so you only have to pay for crystals -- and you're often rewarded crystals for completion, making them free aside from teleport and repair costs!
Ranking up unlocks more items at the tribe's vendor. The Ixal have a wonderful selection of lumber, and you can buy the Adept and Trailblazer (level 58) sets from the Moogles with Carved Kupo Nuts, etc.
Unlocking Ixal only requires the level 41 MSQ "In Pursuit of the Past". But you gotta unlock the Moogles and the Namazu not only through MSQ (respectively, level 56 "He Who Would Not Be Denied" and level 66 "In Crimson They Walked") but through sidequest chains. The Moogle unlock chain is long and starts with "A Pebble for Your Thoughts" in Moghome (and then after "Trouble at Zenith" you gotta pick up "Into the Mists" from the Pillars). The Namazu require two short chains from Yanxia, starting with "Courage the Cowardly Lupin" and "Perchance to Hanami".
The Ixal daily "Deliverance" will take items you bought off the MB, but otherwise you must do all beast tribes tasks yourself.
The tasks given to you in the Moogle and Namazu DoH quests are really easy -- as long as you grasp the barest basics of crafting, you can succeed at them (and you can retry as many times as you like, only losing crystals). The Ixal dailies take away your hand slot gear to begin with and slowly add challenge with increasing restrictions such as cross-class ability lockouts. They're not hard, per se, but you have to puzzle over it a bit more than usual.
You can cheat and do Moogle dailies on a higher level class than you hand it in on. You can’t with Namazu -- you have to complete the quest with the same class you picked it up with.
Though quick, they do take a little bit of time, most of which traveling between quest points. Denisot's round today of 3 Moogle dailies took 5 minutes, but if you get one that involves repreated trips it can take longer. Still, they're good if you can play every day even if only briefly.
You might get asked to type "free kupo nuts" in /say.
Collectables (Rowena's House of Splendors). After (IIRC) level 50, after MSQ "The Better Half", you can unlock collectables via the quest "Inscrutable Tastes" in Revenant's Toll. You can then hand in collectables to the House of Splendors (via kiosks at the main cities, Revenant's Toll, Idyllshire, and Rhalgr's Reach) to receive experience and scrips. Like GC supply and provisioning, each day the requested items change. Also like the GC, there's a chance the requested items will have a star next to them, giving bonus scrip and exp. It's always the highest-level turn-in available to you that has a chance of a star.
Collectable crafting works exactly the same as regular crafting. You just toggle on Collector's Glove (an action you can get from your actions window and/or put on your hotbar) and craft as if you were trying for HQ; your HQ chance is converted into collectable rating.
Collectable fishing is AFAIK essentially the same as fishing for HQ. Again, you just toggle on Collector's Glove and try to land a big/HQ fish.
Collectable MIN and BTN, on the other hand, is its whole own little mini-game added on to the normal gathering minigame. You'll want to look up a guide on how to do collectable gathering -- I don't have one handy at the moment. It's not hard, necessarily, but it's a new system to learn!
Rowena's House of Splendors is truly unlimited, and you can hand in as many collectables as you want each day. The experience isn't great, though, even for starred items, so I would recommend against going crazy and doing these all day long. LOVE YOURSELF!
The amounts of scrip rewarded isn't great to begin with, so grinding for rewards will be pretty miserable until you get up into the mid-high 50s. However, if you must have the full Adept's set today, it's an option!
Red Crafters' Scrip (the current common scrip) can be traded for a variety of items, such as manuals, level 60 gear (via Rowena's Token (Blue Crafters' Scrip)), Soul of the Crafter (for changing specializations after your free choice of three from Alderan), IV-V materia, old mats, etc. Red Gatherers' Scrip can also be traded for gear and materia, more valuable old mats (like Pterodactyl), and good fishing bait like Brute Leech and Silkworm.
Collectables are not tradeable, so you must do them yourself. You can't buy the items or get a friend to make them for you.
For DoH, you do have to buy and store the materials, as with Grand Company Supply, unless you exclusively do:
Custom Deliveries. The first client is Zhloe Aliapoh, unlocked at level 60 with quest "Arms Wide Open" in Idyllshire. These tasks take collectables, like Rowena's House of Splendors, but are limited to 6 hand-ins per week per client and 12 hand-ins per week across all clients. If you do them at level cap, you get valuable yellow scrips, but you can also use your allowances for leveling classes below cap.
The materials for DoH Custom Deliveries are sold by vendors in town (Scrap Salvager in Idyllshire, Material Supplier in Rhalgr's Reach, and Blue Merchant in Tamamizu) They're cheap, and you're awarded gil at hand-in, so DoH Custom Deliveries are almost-free-to-profitable to do. DoL, as usual, cost only teleport and repair costs.
The time required is generally very little -- FSH probably takes the longest because of RNG. And you can do them whenever you have time during the week.
If you're using them for leveling, the experience is only modest. But it is a very easy, low-effort way to get red scrips and experience (if you do them below cap) and yellow scrips (if you do them at cap).
AFAIK, Zhloe only requires you unlock Idyllshire level and be 60 in one DoH or DoL class. M'naago requires the MSQ cleared through "Return of the Bull" (SB 4.1). Kurenai requires you to have unlocked M'naago and finished the quest chain that starts with "The Palace of Lost Souls" (including quests not currently marked with a blue unlocky !).
For DoH, like with Moogle dailies, you can craft the collectable item on any class, then change classes before handing it in.
Challenge Log. Don't forget that you get lumps of experience each week for crafting NQ and HQ items, melding materia, gathering NQ and HQ from nodes, and fishing NQ and HQ fish. The quantities are modest, but they're a nice bonus if you choose to level through a method that involves crafting/gathering items yourself (GC Supply/Provisioning, levequests, grinding, etc.)
Overall, my recommendation would be to try a little bit of every leveling method and find out what's enjoyable for you and fits nicely into your budget and schedule. We have a half-year until Shadowbringers, so if you start now you can take a relaxed pace -- no need to rush, grind doing stuff you hate, and burn yourself out.
Engineering and Survival Manuals and similar buffs
There are a variety of buffs that will help you level, giving you more experience per craft or gather. For DoH, you want Engineering Manuals (the yellow ones); for DoL, it's Survival Manuals (the green ones). You can get these from all sorts of sources -- all the ones I remember are:
Rewards from doing your class quests. Another reason to stay on top of em! These Commercial * Manuals give a 150% boost and last 60 minutes or up to 300,000 exp. You can buy more from Rowena's House of Splendors with red scrips.
Bought from your GC quartermaster (Grand Company Seal Exchange). The strongest ones available are Company-Issue * Manual II (+50% for 180 minutes or for 100,000 exp) for sergeants. Company-Issue * Manuals do not stack with Commerical * Manuals.
Free Company actions. "Helping Hand II" and "Earth and Water II" can be bought from the OIC Quartermaster and give 10% more experience to DoH and DoL respectively. The more powerful III versions are charged on an Aetherial Wheel and provide a 20% bonus.
Rewarded from Squadron Priority Missions. You unlock your GC squadron, IIRC, at Second Lieutenant rank, and unlock Priority Missions by completing the level 40 Flagged Mission. The Squadron * Manuals (+20% for 120 minutes, no limit) you can obtain once-a-week from Priority Mission manuals do not stack with Free Company actions.
Company-Issue/Commercial manuals DO stack with Squadron manuals/FC actions.
The recruit-a-friend reward, Friendship Circlet, can be worn while crafting and gathering for 20% more exp when level 25 or below. Same for the Stormblood preorder(?) reward, Ala Mhigan Earrings, which gives 30% more exp when level 50 or below. Brand-New Ring is wearable only by Disciples of War or Magic, so you can't use that.
While it's not an exp bonus, the crafting facility furnishings (Woodworking Bench, etc.) grant a nice 60 minutes of bonus CP to DoH of level 60 or lower, AND THEY CAN NOW BE PUT INTO STORAGE!!! \o/
And of course, don't forget to eat some sort of food while you're crafting or gathering for the 3% exp bonus.
Which DoH should I level up first?
The correct answer to this question has been, and continues to be, everything at once; omnicrafting is the best way.
In the eras of 2.0 and 3.0, the cross-class abilities you gained from the classes were essential to being able to craft HQ items. Not just at endgame -- having those cross-class abilities while leveling makes your life much, much easier. And because the recipes of each class take components from other classes (e.g., WVR recipes always want a bit of leather and metal), leveling everything up together made you self-sufficient and less vulnerable to wild mark-ups on processed materials at the Market Board. Therefore, I join the majority of crafters in continuing to recommend leveling up all your DoH together.
However...
In 4.0, Stormblood, the designers' vision for DoH changed. From levels 61-70, all classes learn the same abilities, which are stronger (but more expensive) versions of the old cross-class mainstays like Careful Synthesis, Manipulation, and Hasty Touch. Nowadays, if somebody slogged through levels 1-60 on one DoH with no cross-class abilities, they would actually be able to craft at level 70 almost as successfully as an omnicrafter. Since the developers have stated that they're very happy with the crafting system right now, it's reasonable to guess Shadowbringers will be similar.
Additionally, not all cross-class abilities are equally valuable. Whenever a new tier of crafting difficulty is added, the endgame meta shifts slightly, but right now, cross-class abilities like Waste Not and Flawless Synthesis aren't really used.
Therefore, while I do recommend you level up everything together, if you really don't want to, you can get away with abandoning some classes along the way. If Ishgard Reconstruction turns out to be similar to beast tribes, you might get away with having just one capped DoH. On the other hand, the developers have teased exclusive challenges for endgame crafters somehow connected to the Ishgard Reconstruction content, so if you want to be ready for whatever that turns out to be, you should at least get all your cross-class abilities.
My tentative recommendation for DoH leveling priority is something like this:
Get anything to 10 to unlock Quick Synthesis.
Get everything to 15. For example:
WVR 15 (Careful Synthesis)
ALC 15 (Tricks of the Trade)
GSM 15 (Manipulation)
CUL 15 (Hasty Touch)
CRP 15 (Rumination)
ARM (Rapid Synthesis), BSM (Ingenuity), LTW (Waste Not).
CUL 37 (Steady Hand II)
WVR 50 (Careful Synthesis II)
ALC 50 (Comfort Zone)
CRP 50 (Byregot's Blessing)
ARM 50 (Piece by Piece)
CUL 50 (Reclaim)
BSM 50 (Ingenuity II)
GSM 50 (Innovation)
CUL 54 (Muscle Memory)
If you MUST skip one DoH entirely, I'd pick LTW, since the Waste Nots are generally inferior to the Manipulations.
You COULD drop CUL after 54's very useful Muscle Memory. And since CUL doesn't correspond to gear, it doesn't help you repair or meld materia, and other classes generally don't need materials processed by CUL.
Various classes' level 54 Name of [Element] cross-class abilities aren't that useful at present -- they're sometimes used in endgame rotations. GSM's level 54 Maker's Mark is also not currently that useful, though it was OP a couple patches back.
Still -- I think it's safest, and for me less annoying, to level everything together.
Should I craft using macros?
Yes -- I think macros are great for relieving the tedium of the repetitive crafting tasks, which you’ll often have while leveling. (Wish I could tell you where to look for good macros, but as I mentioned, I learned years ago, and I just write my own macros these days!)
However, I think you should spend some time manually crafting as well. It will help you understand when and why you use certain abilities, how not to overcap Durability and CP, why you might or might not take Tricks of the Trade, etc. That skill and knowledge will help you even if you plan to primarily use macros at cap, since it will enable you to tweak those macros to be even better for your stats, teach you when you should cancel a macro and take over, etc. Nevermind that macros are very vulnerable to server congestion and lag...
And once you know how to craft, you will almost always have a higher potential quality manually crafting than using a macro -- your ability to respond to changes in Condition can get you precious more stacks of Inner Quiet or CP for upgrading Touches. I often use macros for putting together components but manually craft the final product to be sure I get the highest possible quality.
Other tips for leveling DoH?
I think you'll find one of the most invaluable resources for leveling baby DoH is access to a house or apartment with a Material Supplier. Your friendly FC (or apartment) Material Supplier will take care of practically all your materials needs through level 20 or more.
There are other useful Materials Suppliers scattered around -- in addition to the those in main cities and each of the guilds, check out the ones in the marketplaces out in residential districts.
I also strongly recommend unlocking every 2.0 A Realm Reborn beast tribe because even at mere Neutral standing the tribe vendors offer materials like Undyed Velveteen and Mythril Ingots that you’ll be using in quantity.
Don’t forget to upgrade your gear as you go, even if you’re just putting on new NQ gear from your class quests. DoL is particularly sensitive to gear -- you can really feel the difference when you upgrade a piece.
And really -- like in all aspects of the game, please be sure to pace yourself and make sure you’re enjoying yourself as you go. We’ve got plenty of time.
If you’ve leveled your DoH and DoL recently, what lessons have you learned you wish you’d had at the beginning? Or if you’re leveling right now, what questions do you have? I’m happy to opine or give basic pointers!
You may find my guide/checklist for DoH and DoL class quest items useful, if you haven’t already seen it. And as I mentioned, I may work on a more detailed, how-to-actually-craft-the-things guide in the future, if there’s interest.
Please, don’t be shy and get in touch! I am so excited to work together to rebuild Ishgard with you!!

Ranking of Resident Evil save room themes?
I got my first latte of the season, it’s chilly enough to wear pants indoors, #Streamtober started yesterday. LET’S DO THIS, NICK. >:O
youtube
17. Resident Evil 6 Chapter Ends, All Characters: Back to the cabbage patch. None of you are valid, with your Netflix Original knock-off of some ABC knock-off of 24-ass soundtrack. Go suck a giraffe’s dick with an Ada clone, Jake Muller.
youtube
16. Resident Evil, Deadly Silence: What is this Resident Evil for Babiez? Nintendogz+ResidentEvilz? Imagine listening to this on the crappy DS speakers. Wasn’t there something creepy about Jill’s costume in this game, like you could tear pieces of it off, or am I just conjuring fall memories and combining them with how they went out of the way to add boob bounce to the REmake 15 years after the fact, and now Jill’s boobs on PS4 undulate languidly beneath her shirt like a pair of Dragon Quest Slimes yearning to be free. This track: aural despair, unleavened. A way to quickly induce nausea in dogs who have eaten chocolate or raisins.
youtube
15. Resident Evil 6, Ada Chapter End: Well, okay, this one is all right. The first fifteen seconds feel like a HiFi version of a track from those Playstation 1 top-down shooters where you played a murder clown or a pyro guy escaping a space prison where you were held for crimes you definitely DID commit. The little background jog kicks in soon after and look, I’m a soft sell for ululation, what can I say.** But it just all just serves to stir memories like embers finally gone to smolder beneath the fireplace ash, stoking them after all these years, reminding me what a weird psycho they turned Ada into in this game. I like reflecting on how people got so mad about there not being co-op in Ada’s campaign that Capcom patched in a partner but his name is like “TeamMate” or “Buddy” and he has no lines of dialogue and is never addressed in the story in any way and thus is either a figment of Ada’s imagination or he’s a real dude who’s just pretty quiet and ultimately drowned on that sub? Well, I guess life’s tough if you’re the (potentially imagination) friend of an ex-spy turned pod person.
**(i contacted my musician friend, Kylie, who confirmed that ululation  was the term i was thinking of, lest i second guess myself. at the same time, i’ll post her text here lest i misrepresent her words “Yeah, ululate as a technical term is vibrato using the tongue, so that would be wrong, but ululate as a descriptor refers to a sound that has a very pronounced waver between tones to it.” cool! i’ve often wondered if that’s the most accurate way to describe it. thanks Kylie!! :D)
youtube
14. Resident Evil Revelations 2: Claire gets the best costumes probably across the whole series and yet it feels like she’s gotten the least love of all the main cast. I never really got it, she looks good in denim, whether jacket or pant, and her Revelations 2 blazer does her all the favors. But now they’re remaking RE2 and they turned her face into this weird porcelain Precious Moments dol—MY BELOVED DAUGHTER. MY MOIRA. I SWEAR I’LL FIND YOU. FOR THE SAKE OF JBLL I WILL AVENGE YOU AND THE OTHER ONE.
youtube
13. Resident Evil 0: What’s with all the shivery whiney stuff. Like your younger sibling running nails down the chalkboard of your spine, like how the speed run of this game hinges on juggling an evasive bat with 5 out of the 6 flame rounds on hand, so try. Neither relaxing nor scary. Do I hear something like a bongo in the distance? That is the clarion call of Becky Chamber’s goose booty coming home to roost.
youtube
12. Resident Evil 7: I had a dream last night about this game. If you have phobias about glass and/or mouths and/or wasp genitals, I would skip this paragraph. I was in the house where you have to run away from the mom with the disgusting wasp hive vagina. Also—unrelated and yet somehow related, as dreams always are—I had opened a beer bottle in such a way that the stem broke. I had decided to drink it anyway and now, as I progressed through the house, I found that there seemed to be endless small slivers of glass in my mouth that I had to repeatedly spit out lest they cut me. When I woke up, my jaw was clenched to the point of soreness. Welcome to the family, I guess. Otherwise this save room music reminds me of the game itself: mostly dull and barely there.
youtube
11. Resident Evil Revelations: Item Box Music, only Save Room Adjcanet. Can’t disassociate this from the “swish-swish-swish-SHUCK” sound effects of navigating menus to equip Charge Shot 2 to my Shotgun. Not as pleasing or as integrated into my bone marrow as  the Resident Evil 3 equivalent, but I have probably played this game through thirteen or fourteen times at this point. Life is short and yet the strings of fate tug us the directions they will.
youtube
10. Resident Evil 5: Again, this is menu music. No save rooms at all in this game. Anyway I have no inherent memory of this song because I’m sure I’ve talked over it while upgrading my M92FS to 100 bullet capacity 110% of the times I’ve played this game. Exempted from higher echelon of rankings on these technicalities, but still A POOR PERFORMANCE INDEED for Not The Best Resident Evil Yet Paradoxically The One That’s Given Me The Most Joy In My life.
youtube
9. Resident Evil, Dead Aim
: Wow I almost can’t believe I don’t remember this despite playing this game enough to write a speedrun guide for it. Well, that was the style at the time. As was a bloated zombie corpse boss, I suppose (long before Left 4 Dead, those copy cats), whose weak spot was its exposed brain which, halfway through the fight when you’d done enough damage, would pop out and dance a sprightly jig on its brainstem every time you shot it. With the whisper of wind and rain and single intermittent synth I feel like I’m living in a cyberpunk future and not a game whose protagonist’s “””cajun””” accent is as questionable as its presentation of the antagonist’s gender.
youtube
8. Resident Evil, Umbrella Chronicles
: Hey now, weird bit of the creepy-freaky bass here kind of does put you in a certain headspace, but it’s not the headspace i remember of this game, which was basically unplayable in co-op for the final 3rd because a failed QTE would result in a hunter slicing away half your health. Good for an Into the Breach playlist to keep you focused on the action and stop you from trying to play it while also binging a Netflix show about werewolves that you didn’t really like anyway, and splitting your attention between visual mediums is just getting Good Pilots Killed.
youtube
7. Resident Evil 2: Ominous. Maybe TOO Ominous at points. Aren’t save rooms about being safe? I guess we could argue that because the save room reflects the lacuna of safety  BING BONG piano is the Try Hard version of video game music asking “you scurred yet?” Perhaps a novice mistake from a first-time director who would go on to do so many great things (well, RE2 among them, no lie). In a way, this fits with Rookie Cop Leon S. Kennedy, and anyway it’s so over the top I’m kind of okay with it. Most innervating when first heard on your way to equip a cowgirl costume for fast-firing six-shooter action. Guns suck, and cowboys too, but both are okay if we experience them in the abstract sense. This is what culture teaches us. Fan the trigger.
youtube
6. Resident Evil 4: A surprisingly gentle one, considering the series turn towards action from which it would never recover. I am transported to the early minutes of a horror movie where the audience knows something the protagonist doesn’t about the terror that’s about to befall them while they blithely pick up a desiccated nudie mag in an old shed on a haunted property they inherited from their estranged uncle, more focused on the “ballistics” before them than the axe murderer crouched in the shadows of disused farm equipment behind.
youtube
5. Resident Evil 3, Nemesis: More languid riff on 2. Strings get you shivery, and no more than a single BONG per two measures proves that save room music is as much about the notes you DON’T play. Two bongs to scare, but one bong to keep you on your toes, disallowing you from getting *too* relaxed by the soothing bleeps and bloops as you combine the 3 Gunpowder As you just found to make sure you have enough ammo to pistol-juke the so-called unkillable Nemesis. You’re not coward, but that doesn’t make you brave. Discretion is the better part of valor, they say, but that’s not taking into account that non-discretiony valor rewards you directly with a faster-firing pistol with critical headshots. :3
youtube
4. Resident Evil 1, Vanilla: Gentle, plucky strings make you question your memory, more familiar with later revisions than you are this one. How often was I in this place? Or does its primacy belie its immediacy? If I went to the strange, pointless closet around the corner from this medicine save room, would I find a broken shotgun I expect there, a round of magnum ammo, or simply the ghost of discarded aspirations masking as memories. I recall a time when it felt like time was enough, but then again, this was back when anything sub-three hours would get you the infinite rocket launcher, regardless of how many First Aid Sprays you used.
youtube
3. Resident Evil 1, REmake: High fidelity version of RE1’s gentle strings remind you of simpler times when your worst fears were zombies resurrecting into scarier, faster zombies with claws. What we wouldn’t give to go back to those days, and maybe tell ourselves not to take out so much student debt. Listening to this sends a pulse of gentle energy through my shoulder blades that makes me think “relaxation,” though I’m not sure my body understands the meaning of the word. A respite in trying eras, there is no association with the tension of shaving 15 minutes off your time to be competitive. “Safe Heaven,” they call it; a theme for a place that is not our own, but should be.
youtube
2. Resident Evil 1, Director’s Cut: Wow I did not expect music box chimes and tones stirs something ancestral in my blood. I’ve played the Director’s Cut far more times than the original RE1 and this is like coming home to a big house where I enjoyed an idyllic childhood, but I now know every box is filled with the creepy knife doll from Onimusha. Though these senations are foreign to me, something about them inspires a thirst for a homeland I never knew.
youtube
1. Resident Evil Code Veronica: The absolute chillest. In life, paths may wind, but the ultimate  The strings are tickling your spine. You’re so relaxed you feel like oiling your ponytail, and you could even take a nap in Steve Burnside’s arms without reflexively gagging. When you hear this, you are at peace, and the world seems like a place that can be kind. Truly, the Code is Veronica.
and don’t forget to vote in our poll on whether or not we’re playing Claire A or Leon A tonight!

favorite non bts kpop releases of the year so far?
this list is in no order. i started out writing out what i like about each release (because of course i did) but stopped about half way so sorry about that.
- my pace by stray kids: if fire and dope had a threesome with jyp, you would get this as their gen z kid. except it sounds like a monsta x song. this was a grower but we need more lyrics like this in pop music in general and i’ve really grown to like this one.
- dance the night away by twice: look, i’m a summer bitch. this song is a summer bitch anthem. it bops. i don’t get people who don’t like this song (it’s their best along with tt and likey please do not @ me) but you do you i guess. the video is the summer aesthetic TM, has their most interesting choreo, and if you’re a twice fan and haven’t watched their lives, do yourself a favor and do and focus on jihyo. she legit looks like she’s having the best time anyone has ever had during these performances.
- oh my! by seventeen: kings of choreo. kings of synchronization. kings of making 13 people look amazing while dancing. seventeen has done nothing wrong in the history of ever, but they seriously get it right with this one. fresh, fun as fuck, and cute without being “cute”, this song and mv is everything seventeen excels at. also, has anyone looked this adorable while rapping as mingyu does? this whole ep is great, especially come here and moonwalker, but that’s expected from our resident producer-dols.
- lady by exid: are we sick of 90’s nostalgia? i sure am not. this mv goes all the way there from the outfits to the choreo to the hilarious 90’s era slow-mo shots and the editing in general, but this song sounds very contemporary while still being a homage to its inspirations. as always, le kills her verses and proves why she’s among the best rappers (female or otherwise) in kpop.
- bad boy by red velvet: bad boy has kind of become that song. it’s basically rv taking their weird/quirky shtick, borrowing a couple of snare drums from a trap song, and taking it in a sexy direction. and it totally works. the mv has visuals for days, the color palette is gorgeous, and the minimalist instrumentation really stands on its own.
- shine by pentagon: i’ve been into pentagon since like this, but i’m zero surprised this is the song they’ve gained attention with. the entire choreo is a meme in the best way, the lyrics are cute, and i feel like the piano is very in right now (looking at ikon’s love scenario which sounds like camila cabello’s havana’s baby cousin) but the way pentagon uses it here sounds really fresh and light.
- our page by shinee: i held out on watching this and i still wasn’t prepared. both a lovely and heart wrenching tribute to jonghyun but also a testament to carrying forward through loss. both the song and the video are uplifting and full of this feeling of warmth and despite how simple it is, is one of the rawest music videos i’ve ever seen. i have a lot to say but feel too ineloquent to say it. will probably remain my favorite music video of the year or at the very least, the one that made me feel the most.
somehow by day6: out of the many things i’d like to see for day6’s career, composing an anime ost is one of them. this song off their ep earlier this year sounds like they’re one step closer. grandiose and whimsical by turns, day6 continue to prove why they’re kpop’s answer to the band eagles (if you catch this reference, hi!). everyone sounds amazing but the things jae does with his voice in the chorus are truly inspired. if you like band music in any shape or form, you should definitely check out these dudes. they probably have something for you.
other favorites include:
- hann by (g)-idle- spotlight by pristin v- rubber band by ikon- retro future by triple h - 열기 by loona- du du du by blackpink - heroine by sunmi - see sea by hyorin - baby don’t stop by nct u - thanks by seventeen

Yas cinnamon buns! My dad got like two boxes full of Christmas candy from his family in Europe (I don’t want to say what candy it is cause it could be a huge spoiler who I am since it’s Eastern European 😂)
Ooo the fun part! I love all of MX in their own way (we can all relate) but sweet honey bee has my heart ❤️ everyone has their moments of stealing my heart, but I always go back to sweetheart Honey 😌. As for other groups I absolutely love Day6 (my first Kpop group, fun fact) as well as UNVS (but sadly they don’t have a lot in their discography). I do vibe with seventeen (wonwoo caught my eye fast and effortlessly) and super m, but I definitely need to take more time on them.
What do you recommend for a new seventeen fan to do (like which videos to watch or albums to listen to first)?
omg thats a lot of candy! well if you guys ration it, it can last a while, but if you’re like me and have little self control.. lmao do your best <3
aaaa honey bee!!! 🥰🥰🥰 hes a precious boy <3 love those dimples 😊 also the difference between his baby personality off-stage and his charismatic beast-dol image on-stage, im SHOOKETH <33
(this was getting kinda long, so i decided to put a read more heh)
oooo i always tell myself i should listen to more day6, but aside from a mx and svt, i dont really listen to boy groups :P
heh im a baby carat myself, i became a fan during henggarae era, so i recommend listening to that album first, if you haven’t already!! my fav title tracks are: mansae, hit, and thanks. my fav b-side tracks are: moonwalker, together, network love, hello, ah! love, hug, monday to saturday (mansae), lucky, and hit song :D also, I recommend watching going seventeen, its on youtube, before 2019 it was just vlog content, but after that they decided to make it more like a variety show! my fav episodes are insomnia zero and bad clue which came out in 2020 :) also in the escape singing room ep, they do a cover of mx’s trespass which is funny, hoshi does an impression of jooheon, which is a cute little monteen crumb hehe <3

Gadge Day Reflections: My Journey with Gadge
This might be a bit of a rambling mess (I’m running on so much anxiety and so little sleep), but here goes:
I’m the kind of girl who sees romantic ships everywhere - the stray word, the slightly too-long look, the almost-unnoticed touch - and pounces on them. Which is why it’s rather painful to admit that I didn’t see Gadge as a ship till it started cropping up in the fanfics I read, and even then I didn’t understand where the pairing had come from. (This was circa 2012, by the bye. All three books were out and the THG movie was in theaters.) I remember wondering at one point why people would ever put Madge and Gale together and being mortified that Madge bringing the morphling after Gale was whipped hadn’t given me proper shipper pause. It wasn’t so much that I’d overlooked the scene or its significance; rather, I identify strongly with Katniss and she hated the implication (made by Haymitch, who I’ve never been able to stand) that something might be going on between Gale and Madge, and somewhere between that and the wretched post-whipping Galeniss, the notion of any sort of relationship between Gale and Madge vanished like wisps of vapor. After all, Madge was Katniss’s friend, so it made sense (to me at the time) that she would make a courageous gesture to help Katniss by helping Gale.
At this point in my little shipper head, Gale was little more than an obstacle to Everlark, especially since I was still in that purist “T-rated canon post-MJ fics only” stage, which meant at the very best, Madge might show up in Katniss’s nightmares. My very first fic - which started as a joke with my sister and quickly turned into a legitimate premise - was Something Good: a gender-reversed (canon post-MJ) Everlark story loosely based on The Sound of Music - naturally, with no Madge whatsoever and Baroness!Gale as a major obstacle.
And just before I could post the first chapter of that fic, in a twist that even I couldn’t have predicted, I was unexpectedly, abruptly, intensely inspired to write an Everlark version of “East of the Sun and West of the Moon.”
“What has this to do with Gadge?” you may ask. For starters, it was the first time I had to be a grown-up and write Gale (in spite of my feelings) as Katniss’s friend, however briefly, as they part in the woods in Ch 2. And then I wanted Madge to come over and say goodbye in Ch 3, which meant that someone had to go and tell her that Katniss was leaving. And that’s where all the trouble started. ;)
Gadge exited Stage Left of the WtMiverse at that point (some four years ago) but they were still dancing around the fringes of my fics, for those with eyes to see. I’d discovered a passionate fondness for AU!Gale, who was easy to make a relative of Katniss and therefore no longer an obstacle-to-Everlark, so I had no trouble writing said Gales as attractive and deeply fascinating (i.e., the gamekeeper cousin in The Threshing Floor and Eomer!Galen in The Steward and the Bow-Maiden), but of equal importance, I think, was the fact that I was starting to envision and even imply Gadge relationships on the fringes of those fics. In Threshing Floor Haymitch accuses Peeta of never noticing Wessex girls till Katniss showed up in the field and makes a special note of “Viscount Undersee’s girl [riding] across your field in her petticoat at Midsummer,” which I always assumed was something to do with Hawthorne the gamekeeper (be it to impress him, get his attention, or meet him for a lover’s tryst), but as I never went back to write the epilogue I’d intended, the question was never answered. Bow-Maiden was supposed to have an epilogue too (”The Bride of Ithilien”), in which a Tolkienesque wedding night would be preceded by Eowyn!Katniss receiving new bride counsel from Queen Anniwen and - guess who? - Madriniel, princess of Dol Amroth and new wife of Eomer!Gale. (Heck, somewhere in there I was determined to write my own version of Marion Chesney’s delightful Six Sisters series, in which Regency era social divide!Gadge was very much on the docket, particularly as Madge would be the only one with prospects for a decent society marriage!)
And then a whole dump-truck of very bad life stuff happened to me (there’s no other way to say it :/) and all things writing fell away for a very long time. I managed to produce a little more WtM from the mire but trying to write anything at all was like trying to walk on a broken leg. (It still is, for the majority of the time. :( The prolific enthusiasm has never come back.) But some way, somehow, from the depths of that morass, I got an impulse to write Six Months to Strawberry Time, or rather, what I thought would be the entirety of the fic: one quick spiky Gadge oneshot to show Madge becoming Gale’s hunting partner (something I’d intended for the WtMiverse almost from the beginning but which wasn’t supposed to come up till Everlark visited the district in spring, by which time Gadge might also be in a romantic relationship...).
I felt pretty good about the oneshot (for so I thought it would remain) and figured I’d leave the fic in-progress in case other quick oneshot-esque chapters presented themselves...and then this July, as I was trying desperately to work on Honey-God (and binging on adaptations of Jane Eyre, for which we might be partially able to blame my roommate), Strawberry Time suddenly roared to the forefront of my mind in thorough, lavish detail and demanded to be written. Which put me in an awkward place all around, but these were the only words that had come to me in many months and so of course, I had to chase them.
Three months later Strawberry Time is sitting at just under 40,000 words (and counting), and I can only be grateful to the Gadge devotees for letting me crash their party so late in the game and apologetic to my Everlark readers, to whom this fic (and especially my Gadge Day queue) must feel like a massive betrayal. I most assuredly didn’t plan to start a massive multi-chapter Gadge fic but I’m curiously glad that I have - in part to finally explore these characters and their dynamic (and let me tell you, having to write Gale honestly telling Madge about his feelings for Katniss was hard as nails) but also because opening the door in the other direction - into Twelve rather than the woods - has provided a delicious opportunity to follow all the parallel rabbit trails, from Primko’s windowsill courtship to Rooba’s mythical bacon buns. Strawberry Time has already given me opportunities to drop hints about future (and significant past) stuff in the WtMiverse that would never have fit into WtM itself, and of course we’ll soon have Gadge kisses (and very possibly Gadge smut ;D) as the icing on the strawberry cake.
Will I ever write Gadge outside of the WtMiverse (ex. Jane Eyre, Beauty and the Beast)? I truly have no idea. Depression is relentless and brutal, and I had to claw my way to the surface just to produce this Gadge Day queue. But Gadge presents a delicious dynamic all their own (as do Marko/Prim and Jack/Raisa, if you’re me :D) and once they’re a part of your shipping lineup, you start getting besieged by plot bunnies you would never previously have thought twice about - bunnies that could be made to serve other pairings but into which the perfect pairing fits like a key in a well-oiled lock. Which gets you wondering if maybe you should start spending more time with that pairing that fits so well into all these wonderful plots...
I know this isn’t really a “why I ship Gadge” piece - I tried to write one such and this is what came out, and I’m far too tired to try again - but I really hope it will suffice, if for no other reason than to begin to explain to folks following me why I crawled out of my dark hole and spent an insane amount of hours tagging and scheduling over 100 Gadge-centric posts for the blog I haven’t worked on in many months. Thanks for letting me ramble. *hugs*

My thoughts on:
100 Days My Prince
Starring: Do Kyung Soo/Nam Ji Hyun/Han So Hee/Kim Seon-ho
- Some people will do the most extreme means to get what they want - even if it means sacrificing personal relationships. Remorse comes later. Although for some, no feelings of guilt at all. (These people belong to one of the worst types of people - IMO)
- Love at first sight is a thingggg. 💕 Hahaha! Of course, in the beginning, the attraction is due to the physical attributes of a person. Then, it will slowly progress into a deeper level of affection once you get to know that person.
Tumblr media
- The series is set on the Joseon Era. But until today, there are still a lot of people who kiss-ass for the sake of 'protection' and 'power' - usually in the government and corporate setting which is really sad. 🤦🏻‍♀️😔
- Friends help friends. A friend who supports you in times of need and crisis, and rejoices with you in times of happiness and success is a keeper. 👫👭👬
Tumblr media
- No man is a GFN (Good For Nothing). There will always be at least one thing you are good at! 😉
The heart will always remember. You can lose your memories, but your heart will never forget. ❤️
The Gist:
This series tells the story of 2 individuals who try to overcome their bitter past thru their love for each other.
Yi Yul, is the King's nephew. During his younger years, he was told by his father (the king's brother) that he should not be studying too hard and instead, just play all the time to win the king's favor.
In one of his play time with his friends, he comes across Yi Suh, a girl from a noble family, who lectures him about how he should treat his playmates though his social class is way above theirs.
Yi Yul instantly develops a crush on Yi Suh for being brave and really smart. So, to impress the young lady, he studies really hard as well.
When he was about to show off his learnings, he witnesses an event too cruel for a child to see. The unfortunate event happened to be the reason he parted ways with Yi Suh that night.
SPOILER ALERT!
A historical event happens during the this period and Yi Yul becomes the Crown Prince.
10 years have passed but he still continues to search for her hoping she's still alive and well to reconnect.
During Yul's time as the crown prince, he becomes very suspicious about everything happening inside the palace and investigates. He finds out a big secret thus making him the target of the enemy.
The enemy immediately made its move to eliminate Yi Yul. Although, they weren't able to succeed as he lives after the tragic incident without their knowledge. He was saved by Hong Shim's (*) stepdad. The only catch is, he lost his memories.
*As Yi Suh's family was regarded as traitors, Yi Suh had to live by another name to survive - which was Hong Shim*
Prior Yi Yul's memory loss, he ordered all single men and women to marry to stop the drought the kingdom is experiencing.
But, Hong Shim was determined not to marry as she believes that marriage is not supposed to be imposed. But the punishment for this was 100 floggings.
Halfway thru the flogging, Hong Shim's dad brings in Yi Yul as proof that he was to marry Hong Shim. He was given a new identity since he lost all his memories.
They married without any knowledge of who the other person is and their history.
The story slowly unravels from here...and the rest was history. 😊
What I liked about the series:
- First of all, Do Kyung Soo has entered my heart! Hahahaha! 💕💕💕 I liked his character's innocence, intelligence, cold-heartedness and whatever component there is to him both as Yi Yul and Won Deuk! 💕💕💕 I wasn't expecting a lot because I really didn't find him very appealing at first (And may I clarify, AT FIRST). But as the story progresses, I have developed an attachment to his character that I cannot explain. He is so easy to love! Huhu! My heartttt! 💕😍❤️
Tumblr media
- The story's first episode is catchy. I like how there is so much action in the beginning. I mean, there were a lot of things going on but they're not hard to process at all because the sequencing is very organized. 👏🏻👍🏻😊
PO: First episodes matter to me. If I find the first episode boring, I easily become uninterested. Anybody who share the same sentiment? Hehehehe!
- Hong Shim's Brother is an eyecandy! Hahahaha! He's so manly and independent and really handsome! 😍😍😍
Tumblr media
- The kissing scenes are sooooo worth it! Yup, SCENES!!! Juskolord! 😍😍😍 It's like they are really in love! You would want to believe it!!! Especially when Won Deuk closes his eyes! Juskopanginoonko! 😂😍❤️💕😱
Tumblr media
- A supporting role appreciation post: The villagers paved the way for the the comical component of the series. I mean, since most of the events happen at Songjoo Village, both Won Deuk and Hong Shim, spent most of their time and interactions with their village friends. Super funny!
Also, I love how they all have a sense of camarederie towards each other. It's always touching to see that they are willing to go out of their way to help each other. Especially Kkeut Nyeo and Goo Dol.
Tumblr media
- Speaking of comedic scenes, this pair - Hong Shim and Won Deuk - has a few scenes of their own that are very funny as well. Especially during the period after their marriage. Won Deuk's cluelessness really got me. I cannot unhear the OHO's, AM I THE ONLY ONE UNCOMFORTABLE and KAMI's I heard during this period. Hahahaha! Soooo, cute and funny! ❤️😍💕🤣
- I love when Won Deuk said this: "I don't want to regain my memories... because I want to stay with you forever..."
You want to seriously hope your partner can say this to your face. Because I do! 😜😊💕
- I love how the story does not revolve on its romantic and comical content. It became more interesting because of the underlying problems they had to resolve through out the series. #Drama #Action #FeelingDetective
- The musical scoring is niceeeee. 👍🏻 Especially during the last few episodes when a lot of revelations are happening. Goosebumps! 😊
Cons:
- It was hard for me to find the chemistry at first. 😔
- The songs from the OST are saaaad - or sounded, saaaaad. Hahahaha! Tho, I have a personal favorite (an instrumental). 😜
- I think it's trend in historical dramas for the King's adviser to be the villain. Hahaha! It kinda makes it seem very predictable. 😂
Soundtrack:
So, here's the full OST album for you 😊
100 Day My Prince OST
As previously mentioned, here's my favorite instrumental (very intense if you ask me 😉)
The Person I Cannot Forget
Because I really loved Do Kyung Soo here, I am now planning to watch series and movies he has participated in. Hihi! 💎💕😊
So there, my thoughts for you! Happy reading --- and watching, hopefully! 😉

Listening 2017: June 6–15
The last entry brought older albums to the queue, and this one has even more. Though it put me pretty behind on new releases, I’m glad I’m more eager to turn to older records because I’m the worst when it comes to listening to albums made before the ’90s. I cover four of them here, which for me is a good amount than usual.
Here’s what caught my ear these couple weeks:
Tumblr media
Sing Sing Death House
The Distillers Hellcat, 2002
Only a year sets apart Sing Sing Death House from Coral Fang, the punk band’s second and third release, respectively, out of their three-album run. The completeness of the latter compared to the former, though, astonishes me. Such a result most likely has to do with Coral Fang being a release on a major label, where an ability to write songs with a sharp sense of form and structure is a given as much as it is a sign of artistic growth. Sing Sing Death House, meanwhile, is a tight release in its own way. While Brody Dalle here may care less about providing full songs than a hook to shout, she still hands in a succinct half-hour rundown of the most gut-punching punk bursts. They’re proudly messy, which makes me curious to how they were received when they decided to clean up their act.

Conspiracy
Junior M.A.F.I.A. Undeas/Big Beat, 1995
How two legit hits can come out of a band of amateurs trying on the suits of their New York gangsta-rap heroes only speaks to the business mind of Christopher Wallace, who I assume learned a thing or two working with Sean Combs: that notorious scene of Puff Daddy pushing a Mtume-sampling record as the single to hardcore rapper Biggie’s debut comes to mind. Because most, if not all of the appeal behind both “Player’s Anthem” and “Get Money” — especially the latter’s — is the hook, not to mention its rather flashy loops. Same goes for the third, the Faith Evans-assisted “I Need You Tonight.” Rapping for rapping sake takes them only so far.
The rappers involved do fine world building that lives up to its title of Conspiracy with raps covering paranoia and double-crossing, Biggie’s favorite themes. But again, it’s the things extraneous from the actual rapping that make the non-singles to be more memorable. Straight-up rap track “Realms of Junior M.A.F.I.A.” shines less from the lyrics than the trusted sample of ESG’s “UFO.” “White Chalk” is a rather peculiar one with its stylistic focus nearing horrorcore, evoking more of Southern acts of the time. When they commit squarely to their mafioso role, it sounds exactly like a product by a gang of lesser goons under their bosses wing.

Possibility / Bitter and Sweet
Akina Nakamori Reprise, 1984; 1985
Per recommendation, Akina Nakamori’s Best I and II served as a fine introduction to the Japanese ’80s pop royalty. A definite shift in the singer can be heard from the first to the second compilation, her work from 1986 to 1988; four years after her first single, her voice has finally grown to that of a proper ballad powerhouse. But even in Best I, her hits from 1982 to 1985, you can pick up a gradual growth by the way her voice pairs with more flamboyant accents.
I’m in no way an expert to Nakamori’s work, but personally, I pin the point in time in which she began to hit her stride around 1984 and 1985 with, respectively, Possibility and Bitter and Sweet. She sounds more comfortable to swing her voice around in both. While she showcases just how she can deliver in traditional modes through a series of ballads in the former, she tries on more playful get-ups in the latter; Bitter and Sweet works more contemporary pop productions with drum machines, funk bass lines, starry synths and such. Her 1985 record worked much better for me especially because I’ve gone to associate Nakamori as a diva figure, and the glamorous sounds from that album befits that title.

Tumblr media
The Pleasure Principle / Freedom of Choice
Gary Numan / Devo Beggars Banquet, 1979; Warner Bros., 1980
I don’t know what this says about me during these trying times, but I’ve lately grown a strong fondness for pop exploring humanness — and more so the lack thereof. For others, both Numan and Devo’s work in these albums perhaps feel too disconnected, but the impersonal mode these records assume from the deliberate machine-like rendering of pop is the very voice they strive to hit upon.
The deconstruction of their beloved formats — more singer-songwriter pop for Numan while Devo takes apart the romanticism of rock ’n’ roll — show admiration for the form as well as an eye to critique, mainly what pop tells us (sells us?) about our source of pleasure. And though the present-day has countless improved tools and smoother techniques to get a similar point across, the limitation of the available technology of their era brings an inimitable voice to the records. These prototypes of the man-machine hit a more poignant note than the later versions they inspire.

Payface
Payroll Giovanni & Helluv no label, 2017
Hundreds of rap albums have sold us the cool of a Scarface poster on a bedroom wall. When it comes down to it, though, pretending to be Tony Montana on a record is still kind of a geeky form of play, isn’t it? I thought this while Payroll Giovanni referenced DC Comics superheroes in his song about neighborhood heroes, which during this time full of comic-book movies hits me extra nerdy. While his icon instead rocks chains while in the drug trade, he drives a coupe which he likens to a Batmobile — sleek and extravagant of a metaphor, sure, but a bit kitsch. (“Fuck a Wonder Woman,” if you also want a diss that’s timely.) Payroll also re-works Montell Jordan’s eternal ’90s anthem to fit his drug business in Detroit so it reads, yes, “This Is How We Move It.” These underlining cheesiness about the day in the life of pusher, told otherwise with a brute composure tailored for a gangsta rapper, just about sums up this tape, I think.
[5]
Tumblr media
Z
Zone Sony, 2002
Zone apparently once got stuck with the crude category “ban-dol” because the public could not decide whether the four piece is an idol group or a band. Had they stuck with the exuberant mode of their major-label debut “Good Day” for their debut album, the latter would befit them a lot better. But the power-pop hit was a one off for Z — personally a bit disappointed because it drew me to this album expecting more. They instead stick closer to the earnestness of “Secret Base ~Kimi ga Kureta Mono~,” a staple ballad out of the group’s catalog still to this day.
The album’s sappy mood also calls to mind the dozens of other solo J-pop singer-songwriters who later in the mid-2000s got popular by selling wholesomeness and sentimentality — many of them, acoustic clad. Perhaps it’s a trend, at the very least a micro one? It’s a curious observation I’d investigate further, but even for a sentimentalist like myself, the catalog of some of those artists can be dour to get through.

[ NOTE: Within RP on this account, there is an exception to this in my arrow & the song verse with @ofgoldcnflowcrs wherein Glory likely has to practically beg him to journey from his halls to wherever the meeting is being held to share with Galadriel and Elrond what he has seen for himself… only for Saruman to be there––unexpected and uninvited––to try to dispel every concern, and when that fails to make Thranduil pause, he then verbally tears him apart and trivializes him as he has done to Gandalf and to Radagast and makes him seem every bit the eccentric and foolish king with far too much fondness of wine that I’m sure some rumors have made him, causing Thranduil to level a, “I came here against my better judgment and this is how I am treated.
