the main problem with building an entire culture of herbivores who consequently don't use any animal products you'd have to harm or kill the animal to get is that leather is, like, really good
#it's like. irreplaceably good for a lot of things in a preindustrial context#I finally got around the 'what is her waterskin made out of if not a bladder....' problem by remembering that gourds exist lol#but like 'she's disguised as a dwarf and wearing big boots to hide her hooves. what are the boots made of? uhh. ummm'#she owns a woodcarving kit which could perfectly easily be rolled into a tool roll made of canvas or something#but she also owns a sickle for herbalism stuff and like... what does she keep it in when she's not using it... is it just OUT??#I guess it could also just be like... wrapped in something?#but my heart wants it in a sheath hanging on her belt because Cool but like!! a sheath made of WHAT#heavily felted wool with a canvas exterior maybe?? would that be fine???#would that hold up to the cutting edge or would it get worn/ cut through pretty quickly...?? I'm genuinely not sure lol#TRADITIONALLY... SHEATHS THROUGHOUT TIME HAVE BEEN MADE FROM. LEATHER.
