little brothers
Okay.
I can admit it.
I just...really want to pat Baldr on the head! His hair looks so fluffy. Soft. Like an actual cloud, really white, none of the usual Kingdom Hearts silver. The silver that I have.
Carefully, I curl my fingers into my palms. To best resist the urge.
The kid pretty much glows in the dim light of the Underworld. The Underworld that looks exactly like how I left it, only lacking the Moogle I met there.
Guess the dead have no need for change, over the next couple decades or so.
Baldr...a name straight from Norse Mythology like a lot of these classmates of Xeha’s. Kind of interesting. I know this one better than the others. Baldr, the god of light. He who was invincible to everything but mistletoe.
A god who died due to Loki’s trickery with that same mistletoe, the beginning of the end. The start of Ragnorok.
Nomura’s really into symbolism. I wonder if it still holds, when this is no longer a story on a TV screen.
I hate to look at this kid and go ‘hey you’re doomed’ just because I haven’t met any them in the future. Maybe he’s just...on a world I haven’t been to yet.
But Baldr...is the first to start the end. Baldr, full of Light, is gonna be the first to die, I bet.
So I’ll just keep a careful eye on him. Just to keep him safe.
“You have siblings, don’t you?” He asks me, blue eyes bright and curious as he tilts his head.
Xion, Rook, Riku... “Yeah. I do. Pretty easy to tell, huh?”
“I had a older sister. Her name’s Hoder.” He lets a breath of air. “...I mean, her name was Hoder. She...was one of the upper classman.”
Oh. Oh. She’s gone, isn’t she? Dead.
What the hell were these Scala people thinking, just sending their kids off alone like that? The ones we haven’t found yet are most likely dead. Gone, because they weren’t prepared to face the worlds outside their perfect little greenhouse.
Hothouse flowers and the like, I guess would be the metaphor here.
I swallow back the ‘I’m sorry’ because that doesn’t mean anything. I didn’t ever meet Hoder, didn’t hurt or help her.
Besides, he’s probably had enough of apologies, from his friends. He doesn’t need a stranger giving them too.
Gently I dare to rest a hand on his shoulder. Close enough to actually touching his hair. “It’s not your fault.”
His eyes are steady as he pushes the hand off, to walk ahead. “Come on. We need to find Bragi.”
Not addressing what I said. But that’s okay.
Because I don’t really believe it either, when people tell me what happened to Namine isn’t my fault.
I bounce after him, taking the change in subject for what it is. “Alright! Bragi it is!”
