What is Derry’s Girls? ☺️
OKAY, buckle in, this is my new jam so hold on to your hats everyone.
Derry Girls is a TV show set in Ireland (specifically Derry, Northern Ireland) in the 1990s, when the Troubles were happening (here’s a link to what that was more in-depth for my young and/or american friends who don’t know, but it’s basically the fighting and discord between Catholics and Protestants in Ireland for decades for a number of reasons.)
its a scripted comedy, it’s frankly laugh-out-loud hilarious, and i’m obsessed, clearly. if you’re not used to listening to irish accents you may want to invest in subtitles while you watch, but i didn’t need them so they may not be necessary idk.
basically it’s a group of girls (and a token guy) who go to catholic school in ireland and live their best 90′s lives.
From left to right we have: Orla (erin’s cousin, weird, loves a snack), Clare (very concerned with the Rules, anxious lesbian), Erin (think’s she’s a better writer than she is, show is centered on her for the most part), James (the token British Guy, says he’s Not Gay) and Michelle (boy crazy, loves her some booze).
they’re amazing as an ensemble cast but also individually, and the first season is on netflix if anyone wants to watch!
pretty sure you can find season 2 online places, if you know what you’re doing with google :)
