2.1 spoilers ahead!
Now that I had time to sit on what happened in 2.1 and gather my thoughts. I just want to say that 2.1 has been the best patch so far. In 2.0 HSR did a wonderful job showing all these different fractions within Penacony and how every single one of them had their own agendas. In 2.1 we got to see what their agendas were and how they were going to/are playing out.
The different POVs were a wonderful and amazing addition to the story. It was really nice being able to see and play the same story from another character's perspective.
Aventurine was by far the best character in Penacony for me. The way his story was told was amazing and being to play from his POV allowed us so much more insight into his character. The way his backstory was told, the way he planned to "kill" himself, and the way he finally came to terms with his own past, present, and future were so good some parts of his story genuinely brought tears to my eyes. Seeing Acheron come to the realization of his plan and taking away harmony's curse off of him and giving him a second chance and an out from the IPC I don't even have words to describe how much I loved that scene. There's also his and ratio's relationship I loved every second of their interactions. Their plan for ratio to betray him, ratio giving medicine to aventurine to use when he's close to death god every second of their interaction was amazing I could go on forever about them. I am very excited to see where his story will go on from here.
There's also the fact we got to hear Boothill's voice and holy shit I'm so excited to see him! The interactions between Acheron and Welt had me hooked I desperately need more interactions between them.
The way 2.1 ended has me so excited for 2.2. I never expected Gallagher to be excused of "killing" Robin it was an unexpected twist but I loved it very much. I have so many questions after that ending did Gallagher kill sunday? Is Gallagher truly responsible for the murders that have been happening in penacony? What happened to Robin? Where is Robin? Overall I can't wait for 2.2!!!

I had to go to a different veterinary clinic this weekend because my usual place is only open weekdays, and the vet was so rough with Grim, for no reason šŸ„² like Grim was purring and trying to headbutt this lady and doing cute little meows (despite being so ill that she was gagging and mouth-breathing), and then this lady SCRUFFS HER to get her onto the scale. and continues to use excessive force in pinning her down for the examination. I've been to 12 years worth of vets with Grim, and I've never seen someone act this way. it was so stressful.
on the bright side thought, this vet was obviously component in other areas, because the meds are already working. she's on antibiotics and something to help her airways open (because the throat infection triggered pre-existing asthma), and it's obvious she feels so much more comfortable.

I hope the first time we see Buck and Tommy together in s8 they're meeting up for coffee again. Buck got there first and when Tommy arrives he hands him his cup and launches right into a story. And Tommy takes it and doesn't check it or even sip before taking a big drink of it cause he knows Buck knows him now and he's always gonna get it right. So he drinks his coffee and smiles and kisses Buck on the cheek while he tells him about whatever happened at work that day. Do you see the vision

ā€œbraceā€ - Jegulus microfic - @into-the-jeggyverse - 266 words
The match had been going on for hours. It was heated and aggressive and even from the stands James could feel the intensity. The score had been close the entire game and it all came down to who could catch the snitch first, but neither seeker had seen it the entire game.
That was until Regulus spotted it hovering in the corner of the pitch only centimeters above the ground. James saw the moment Regulus found it and he didnā€™t hesitate to go after it. He shot across the pitch faster than James had ever seen him fly and James had to brace himself on the front of the stands as he watched Regulus dive directly towards the ground. It was a risky move because Regulus would have to pull up at the very last second so he didnā€™t crash into the ground or the side of the pitch.Ā
It felt like time slowed down and James held his breath the entire time. Regulus reached his hand out and wrapped his fingers around the snitch at the same time as he pulled his broom up and spun to the side to fly straight up along the side of the pitch. It was beautiful. And ridiculously stupid.
Regulus had the biggest smile on his face as he flew over to James.
ā€œYou are insane.ā€ James told him. ā€œBut that incredible. Youā€™re incredible.ā€
ā€œFor you.ā€ Regulus held out the snitch.
Instead of taking the snitch, James wrapped his hand around Regulusā€™ wrist and pulled him down for a kiss.
ā€œFor you.ā€ James said when they broke the kiss.

I LOVE Teen Stan and Ford, itā€™s sad they donā€™t get drawn enough, so thank you so much!
Does Ford ever help Stan when he gets overstimulated? Or maybe when he has a rage response and suddenly starts crying and calls himself stupid?

if you're wondering what the big deal is about the louis-philippe sentence in les misƩrables, it is, in the original french, 760 words long. the subject of the sentence doesn't appear until 95% of the way through, at word #711; the main verb is word #712. the sentence contains 91 commas and 49 semicolons and is almost entirely a list of laudatory adjectival phrases describing the erstwhile king of france. this is perhaps especially notable because les mis is, shall we say, not known for being particularly gung-ho about the monarchy.
this sentence copied and pasted into Word takes up more than one page single-spaced. in the 1800-page folio classique edition, it is fully two and a half of those 1800 pages. that means that les mis is 0.14% this single sentence. more of les mis is made up of this sentence than earth's atmosphere is made up of carbon dioxide (0.04%). if the page count of les mis stayed the same but every sentence was the length of this one, les mis would consist of only 720 sentences total.
incidentally, guess who named hugo a peer of france 17 years before the publication of les mis?
#he also goes on for another six pages after this but by then he has remembered the existence of the full stop#the endnotes say that hugo 'se devait de faire [ce portrait] aussi favorable que possible Ć  la personnalitĆ© de l'homme#qui avait favorisĆ© sa carriĆØre' (had to make this portrait as favorable as possible to the character of the man who had favored his career)#in fairness to hugo it's not like louis-philippe was alive to read this. so he wasn't just sucking up to get something out of it#he says at the end of the chapter that this description is 'entirely disinterested'. which like on the one hand i get#bc like i said louis-philippe was not in power and reading this. but otoh victor 'ancien pair de france' hugo u r not exactly unbiased. lol#les mis#lm 4.1.3#i just looked up the english translation and gasp! hapgood turned it into four separate sentences!!!!#so i think y'all who are reading it via les mis letters (which uses hapgood i think?) are gonna miss out on the full experience :/#my posts#linked to#syntax#idk if i got this across but the worst part is that the subject of the sentence - the beginning of the independent clause -#doesn't occur until the very end. so for the first 95% of the sentence you're just waiting for the bass to drop!!!#like reading it out loud you have to raise your pitch at the end of every dependent clause because you haven't gotten to the subject yet#AND THERE ARE SO MANY CLAUSES!! 49 SEMICOLONS PEOPLE!!! FORTY-NINE!!!!#victor hugo would be TERRIBLE as a hype man. he would take so long that the crowd would tear him to pieces with their fingernails#before louis-philippe could come out on stage. and then they'd be so mad at louis-philippe for inspiring him that they'd tear LP apart too#actually i think i'm using hype man wrong. i'm thinking of the guy that gets the crowd hyped up for the main guy before the main guy#makes an appearance. a hype man is the guy who makes interjections during a song. victor hugo would be bad at both of these#like just imagine the announcer at the beginning of a basketball game. and now...your starting lineup...at power forward...#and then he just says the 760-word louis-philippe sentence.#dead. murdered at the hands of the fans. microphone shoved down his trachea.

There is currently a rather large discussion ongoing about the RW fandom behavior, drama, etc. I am not going to talk about the specifics of whats happened for a number of reasons. But what I do want to say is that if at any point you've harassed people over it, whether that be through anon asks or public posts- you did nothing but damage the ability for people to correctly process what is happening. You contributed nothing but harm to an already delicate situation. It does not matter what "side" you were on and I will not tolerate further interaction with me or my work if I found out you did such. If you let your personal hate for anyone boil over into threats, wishes for long term harm and petty comments meant to contribute nothing but slander or mental distress for the individuals involved who were already distressed (or acting irrationally) you did nothing but make it harder for people to process their emotions, thoughts and behaviors constructively. Regardless of who you think was in the right, who fucked up, whatever. It doesn't matter if they deserved it, or earned it, or if its an eye for an eye. Its difficult enough as it is to think clearly when presented with any kind of stressful situation and heckling people does nothing but make it worse and harder for them to explain themself in any capacity. I don't want you anywhere near me if you think that is an acceptable way to act.
#Please do not ask for me details- I am not involved#I am not the person to ask.#I very intentionally stay out of wider fandom circles because i want to keep enjoying things i like (lol)#But i have seen some absolutely vile behavior both openly and on alts or anon#even from the 'anti harassment' side because of course they also just want a justified target#to hurt or slander but this time under the guise of 'well they did it first!'#Its a pathetic display on all sides in terms of behavior long before for you even try picking a part who fucked up and where#and its not surprising that many artists have felt uncomfortable with it long before it boiled over into this. It would have been a problem#even if there had never been an actual incident because people were simply behaving in uncomfortable and offputting ways in regards to how#they treated creators here. fandom has a problem in general with that but it was particularly public and open#Anyway Im not leaving the fandom or anything im comfortably on the fringes of it for a reason and dont intend on digging in any further.#But this issue has been cooking for months for frankly and with this its gotten even more openly hostile. And yes- even those#'anti harassment' types are very happy to harass when they have their own reason for it. so im not giving them an inch#But beyond that and this particular incident people have just been way too comfortable being cruel openly#and letting their personal dislike of things bleed into how they act.#Also one more thing: If an artist deletes or leaves and takes their art with them the bear minimum of respect is to honor that choice#save what you want when its there and keep it but if they want their work gone than god respect that dont set up entire archives#for shit people choose to wipe. If they delete it that should be honored no matter how you feel about it#t.extpost

You know what, fuck it, I have to speak my truth! (this is gonna be a rant, so anyone who actually likes assassin's creed revelations and/or the secret crusade, be warned or maybe don't read this at all)
remember how altaĆÆr talks to king richard at the end of ac1, and richard is like "[humans] come into the world kicking and screaming, violent and unstable. it is what we are. we cannot help ourselves."? and how altaĆÆr answers "no. we are what we choose to be." and how that ACTUALLY has meaning bc he himself was "violent and unstable" at the beginning of the game but he has learned and is now CHOOSING to be a better person who cares about others and humanity at large? remember how his calmness and gentleness was something that he ACQUIRED over the course of the story?
and remember how in revelations they then suddenly had a PRE-AC1 altaĆÆr say about the first of his targets "no man should pass from this world without knowing some kindness." and be all wise and calm and collected during a nice little chat with al mualim, who suddenly acts all fatherly? (like, this is suddenly supposed to be a positive relationship? what??)
also, during the confession the target says to altair: "you put too much faith in the hearts of men, altaĆÆr. [...] humans are weak, base, and petty." and altaĆÆr answers: "no. our creed is evidence to the contrary." KJASJFJDKL???? like, itā€™s almost insulting how close this exchange is to the one with richard. you know, the one that was actually earned after a whole game of character development. like WTF??? cool congrats now that development means nothing. like, apparently that was just altaĆÆr reverting BACK to being the exemplary assassin who understands and believes in the creed that he was apparently just born as. (i also hate how having a young inexperienced altaĆÆr saying this implies that altaĆÆr's faith in humanity is a sign of naivete instead of a sign of the wisdom he has gained after being confronted with counter arguments for a whole game, and also something that distinguishes the assassins from the templars who use humanity's supposed wickedness to justify controlling them like in AC1, but whatever)
altaĆÆrā€™s development in AC1 mattered BECAUSE he is not NATURALLY a good person, it actually said something about humanity's capacity for both bad AND good and how humans don't have to be forced to be good through mind control bc they can by their own free will choose to be better when taught how and when allowed the freedom to grow. but no. apparently altaĆÆr has just always been calm, wise and gentle. and he just sort of forgot about that during AC1 bcā€¦. ? bc of adha?? bc of abbas???
oh donā€™t get me started on the whole abbas thing. (it doesnt even make sense that abbas is so hung up about his father and "his familyā€™s honor", like what about the whole point of al mualim not allowing parents to be close to their children bc it would make them weak? like, my dude, youā€™re not supposed to HAVE any family aside from the brotherhood)
they used the throwaway character that had like 5 lines and made him into altaĆÆrā€™s main antagonist in revelationsā€¦ like, abbas wasnā€™t supposed to be this ONE dude who had personal beef with altaĆÆr, he was just supposed to show how while altaĆÆrā€™s revered by many, a lot of his brothers also hate him, bc 1) altaĆÆr is a shitty person at this point and 2) bc thereā€™s no real feeling of community and family in this version of the brotherhood, but just a pervasive sense of competition and jealousy ā€” these assassins donā€™t care about their goal of safeguarding humanity bc theyā€™re too hung up on petty squabbles and divided by rivalries (you know, the things that made malik hate altaĆÆr even before solomonā€™s temple and that he overcomes in the end which enables him to forgive and to reconcile with altaĆÆr so they can work together and stop al mualim? (you ever just think about "we are one. as we share the glory of our victories, so too should we share the pain of our defeat. in this way we grow closer. we grow stronger." and cry? bc i do. all the time. malik, the man that you are))
and now abbas is altaĆÆrā€™s childhood best friend turned lifelong enemy?? like, bowden bent over backwards to come up with an explanation for why altaĆÆr is an arrogant ass at the beginning of AC1, when the explanation is right there: he was raised to kill without asking questions and was constantly praised for how good he is at murder, which resulted in him becoming arrogant and disregarding human life. like, it doesnā€™t have to be some shakespearean family feud type shit. and guess what, this "simple" explanation actually plays into the storyā€™s themes, whoā€™da thunk!
(like, abbas might not have been a "fleshed out" character in AC1, but he had a specific function and now that function is gone. mr bowden, mr mcdevitt, you know characters are allowed to simply exist to tell us something about their worlds and the systems they live in and sometimes thatā€™s more important and also more interesting than having every single character have a detailed backstory to explain all their behaviors, right?)
with all of this revelations loses all nuance in regards to the levantine brotherhood and also the creed in general. like, altaĆÆr being a master assassin at the beginning despite being a terrible person and not actually understanding the creed is a criticism of the brotherhood and the creed itself. like, it said something about the order that someone like altaĆÆr was able to get that high in rank, simply bc he's good at killing, which also tells us what is considered important in the al mualim era assassin order. when you make altaĆÆrā€™s arrogance the result of his personal conflicts instead of how we was raised by a brotherhood that only valued one's ability to kill, you lose that characterization of the assassin order itself!
and by suddenly making al mualim a semi good "father figure" you also downplay his manipulation of not only altaĆÆr but all those under his care. (altaĆÆr says something about al mualim being "as a father" to him exactly twice in the codex, but he doesnā€™t mean by that that he WAS a father to him, what he means is that he was the CLOSEST THING he had bc HE DID NOT HAVE PARENTS, not because his mother died in childbirth and his father was executed when he was young btw, BUT BECAUSE IT WASNā€™T ALLOWED, like his parents actually lived but werenā€™t allowed to be close to him, he says he came to view al mualimā€™s "weak and dishonest" love as enough and even better BECAUSE HE HAD NOTHING ELSE, BECAUSE AL MUALIM ISOLATED HIS ASSASSINS FROM THEIR FAMILIES. al mualim "loved" him bc he was good at killing people for him! hm, i wonder if this could be trying to say anything about cults and indoctrination and the inherent contradiction in fighting for peace and free will by taking children away from their parents and raising them to become killers?? like, altaĆÆr wasn't ~the special orphan boy~ taken in by al mualim bc his father died a hero's death, it was "the way of the order" to have al mualim be the closest thing to a parental figure for everyone to ensure absolute loyalty! altaĆÆr saying al mualim was like his father is not supposed to make you go "oh, he must have actually been a good guy for altaĆÆr to consider him a father", it should make you go "oh that's kinda fucked up that he considers the dude who made him into a killing machine and who manipulated him a sort of father figure"!)
and then in revelations they suddenly portray that relationship as positive and healthy??? like, it would be one thing to give it some nuance by delving into the psychology behind al mualimā€™s "love" and maybe showing how al mualim did care about altair in a complicated, fraught sort of way (like, you know, thereā€™s a lot of interesting things you could say about al mualim at several points addressing altaĆÆr as "my child" in AC1 and how that parallels Garnier referring to the people he drugged and abused as his "children", and what that says about how the templars view the people who they say they want to save and in whose best interests they supposedly act (in any case, al mualim doesnā€™t use that phrase because he has any real parental feelings but rather to patronize and to invalidate any objections, like in a "mother knows best" way))
but they even fucking DARE to parallel that relationship with that of altaĆÆr and darim in revelations, by having the reflection in the puddle of darim hugging altaĆÆr showing altaĆÆr hugging al mualimā€¦. like their relationship wasnā€™t inherently abusive but just tragically cut short because al mualim was just "corrupted by the apple"ā€¦ like WHAT???? so itā€™s not the very real problems like grooming, manipulation and indoctrination and the hierarchical structure of the brotherhood itself (all of which are antithetical to the assassin ideology), it was just the evil apple all along. great. thatā€™s DEFINITELY a lot more interesting.
god im sorry i really dont want to spread negativity but this is driving me INSANE. like, somebody please tell me im not crazy bc i feel like somehow most of the fandom is in agreement that revelations and the secret crusade have better storytelling and characterization than ac1.
SPEAKING OF WHICH, can we talk about how, even IF we completely ignore AC1 and treat revelations altaĆÆr as his own characterā€¦. the narrative still doesnā€™t really work?
basically, the whole point of his story in rev is that "he gave his whole life to the brotherhood", this obsession led to him not using his time with his family which has him ending up dying alone in a dark library and this in turn makes ezio reevaluate his life choicesā€¦. except. he doesnā€™t? neglect? his family? or whatever? like, his devotion to the assassins is sort of painted as this tragic flaw that leads to a lonely death bc it supposedly comes at the cost of his family, butā€¦ his wife has joined the assassins, (at least) one of his sons is in the brotherhood and even when he goes to protect the assassins against the mongols, he takes his family with him (except for the son who stays behind bc he has a family of his own and who, ironically, ends up dying bc of that)ā€¦ like, you canā€™t describe altaĆÆr as a good husband and father in the database and have his son tell him that "everything that is good in me began with you, father" when they say goodbye, and then want to make us believe that he put his family behind the brotherhood and that that is a character flaw that leads to his tragedy.
because you HAVE to have a characterā€™s tragedy be the result of a character flaw. like. that is how tragedies work. otherwise it just becomes tragedy for the sake of tragedy which isā€¦ boring bc it has no purpose. and we know it is SUPPOSED to have purpose bc ezIO FUCKING QUITS BEING AN ASSASSIN AFTER WITNESSING IT!
itā€™s like they want to have their cake and eat it, too ā€” they didnā€™t want to actually make altaĆÆr a bad husband/father, but still wanted to make his life a tragedy where he loses his family which is why instead they outsource all responsibility to abbas who now has to be the reason for ALL the deaths.
like, they try to make at least mariaā€™s death kind of sort of the result of altaĆÆrā€™s rashness or whatever but likeā€¦ these guys KILLED THEIR SON and TOLD HIM THAT ALTAƏR HAD ORDERED HIS DEATH. like, altaĆÆr losing it in response to that is not rash, itā€™s fucking logical and justified! if anything the scene made me angry at maria for trying to stop him. like, GIRL, he was YOUR son too??? but god forbid we give female characters actual real emotions, she has to fill the role of "voice of reason who dies for altaĆÆrā€™s man pain" i fucking guess.
like, itā€™s this weird mix where his tragedy is simultaneously painted as his own fault but also not really bc abbas is the one responsible for all the shit that happens. it justā€¦ it just doesnā€™t really go together.
the only way to make his story make sense narratively and to give it actual purpose is by looking at it in the context of ezioā€™s story, bc the things he sees in altaĆÆrā€™s memories are supposed to be a revelation (ha!) to ezio specifically. and i guess thatā€™s maybe the crux of it all ā€” altaĆÆrā€™s story in revelations was conceived of first and foremost to support ezioā€™s story and development. which is probably also why many people maybe donā€™t notice bc, having skipped ac1 and started with ac2, the majority of people mostly care only about ezio and only really appreciate altaĆÆrā€™s story in as far as it serves to push ezio forward. (tho iā€™ve also seen a few people say that ezio is also written kind of weird in rev, but iā€™ve never really been an ezio girly myself so i canā€™t speak to the truth of that)
like, altaĆÆr dying alone in the library doesnā€™t really have to make sense for his character, i guess, bc itā€™s only really supposed to be a cautionary tale for ezio.
so, i guess, for once, they actually had a MAN dying for another manā€™s character development, which is pretty woke actually. ubisoft, i take everything back jksdsfjhgdsahfhsdhfghfdsgjhsdgjh
#assassins creed#ac1#altair ibn la'ahad#malik al-sayf#ezio auditore#asscreed#rant#long post#this is killing me#i even started rereading the secret crusade bc i thought maybe i remember it being worse than it is#but honestly its the opposite#even just the fact that in the secret crusade altair always says some last sentence after his targets' confessions#has me so irrationally angry aksjdfh#like over sibrands body he says something like 'may death be merciful' or something#like? did they want that to be like requiescat in pace or something???#like aside from the fact that altair WOULD NOT FUCKING SAY THESE THINGS#it also just destroys the tension built up by the target's last words#like... i do think it was very much on purpose that the target always had the last word in the confessions#sigh whatever its just a stupid video game from over 15 years ago who cares#(me. i care. unfortunately. i wish i didn't. send help please.)#also the fact that bowden just completely fucked up arabic naming conventions with the whole ā€œumar/darim ibn la'ahadā€ thing#(which is kind of an achievement considering that wasn't too great in ac1 to begin with)#tho bc of that they kind of inadvertantly ended up implying that roshan is altairs ancestor which i actually kind of like lol#anyways sorry for this giant wall of text#this is probably (definitely) the longest post i've ever made lmsadjf#but i do think i've gotten most of it off my chest.... maybe#maybe ill add stuff if i come across something else that makes me angry lol#sorry i know i promised an essay and instead delivered a rant#i just dont think i have the capacity to actually structure my thoughts any better kajdsf

itā€™s like baby gorl thereā€™s no way I, the author who wrote the fic youā€™re commenting on and who is the intended audience for this comment, am gonna agree with you šŸ˜æšŸ™ some things can just stay on your chest šŸ™
#thereā€™s a threshold I think of what I accept in comments about characters#and their actions or about who is in the wrong or what should happen#because I do like reading peopleā€™s opinions#and sometimes when someone is like I didnā€™t like obi-wan in this fic#Iā€™m like makes sense! maybe you werenā€™t supposed to or maybe the argument they had was supposed to not be clear cut on who is right#because arguments in real life donā€™t always have a clear cut winner or morally superior person lmao#Iā€™m ok with that Iā€™m ok with comments saying boo this character is annoying#because sometimes they just are (eg the amount of people who just donā€™t like obiwan in pbatmb like?? yeah of course heā€™s not gonna be nice#but I digress lol#anyway but thereā€™s a threshold of when comments about not liking a character go too far and youā€™re just like.#saying mean things about the writing itself and thatā€™s not something lm gonna allow to be normalized#no matter the intention behind it#you do not type a comment like this knowing it wil be send to an author#who will get an email notification about a comment#click on it and go oooo long comment :D and then go oh.#you donā€™t do that itā€™s rude itā€™s being a jerk#Iā€™ve been here for like 3 almost 4 years I feel ancient in this fandom sometimes#and Iā€™ve gotten so much feedback on my work through that time and so many nice comments and community#but mean comments can really hurt especially new writers#and they can make people who maybe would write fic for a fandom decide to not#like this isnā€™t even that mean I can almost see the writer just wanting to say how they feel#but sometimes you do not have to šŸ™#also I just think this understanding of the characterizations in the fic and probably their understanding of the characters in the films#is a wee bit trash but thatā€™s for me to say in the long tags of my own blog post and not for me to comment on their fics for the fandom#(they donā€™t have any but I did check because 3am kit felt nosy)

in honor of kakashis birthday i thought i might as well finally release my half finished mini concept of "inverse lost tower where baby kakashi comes to hang out with shippuden era team 7. Badly" because obviously baby kakashi seeing his older self have relationships and happiness that baby kks doesnt think he can or deserves to have pisses him off on such a fundamental level hes so filled with rage he barely knows what to do with himself. not to mention that adult kakashis general outward lackadaisical demeanor also makes him angry because how can they have gone through all the same things and yet he still doesnt take anything seriously etc etc u already know all this. regardless the issue more than anything else was that im not much of a writer so i could never get the words to feel right so it'll probably stay unfinished forever, but take these anyways

Seraphina and Arlo: The Brainwashing of High Tiers
Exposition:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ā€” Remi, Episode 50.
There is a heavy implication that Seraphina and Arlo were raised in much the same way. The pressure on Seraphina comes from her parents, so Iā€™ll extrapolate that the same goes for Arlo. This raises the question: how do the authorities create such a strong societal pressure on such a small percentage of the population? Most high tiers will probably not know any other high tiers besides their parents. Take Wellston Private High School for example: itā€™s the most prestigious private school around, and canonically has the ā€œhighest concentration of high tiers in the regionā€. There are six high tiers in Wellston. Apply this to god tiers specifically, and there are only three. Not to mention that this current group of students is uniquely strong, even for Wellston. In Reiā€™s senior year, he was the strongest at 5.8 max.
So much of this brainwashing relies on the parents to do all of the work, and it only takes one or two people to break the cycle. So how are the authorities creating this immense pressure? One tactic could be by isolating high tiers. There is a very widespread concept that one shouldnā€™t associate with those outside their level range. A caste system like this that affects everyone is much easier to create and maintain than an expectation for a small group, and it also means that high tiers are only being influenced by those who are also high level. This creates an echo chamber. Iā€™ve researched cults and how they brainwash victims, and the first step in the process is isolating them in exactly this way.
But, if there are so few high tiers, how the hell are they supposed be isolated from other groups? The answer is that high tiers are just isolated in general. Take a look at Arlo: his only friend is Remi, and even her, he keeps at an armā€™s length. Arlo is only close with Remi in the first place because he was close with Rei, who, at the time of meeting Arlo, was presumably close in level with him. [EDIT: I forgot about Holden, which I think says a lot about his relevance. He is kept at more than an armā€™s length and doesnā€™t seem to have any actual influence on Arlo, let alone a deep relationship. He is also not presented as an equal.] Take a look at Seraphina: before meeting John, she didnā€™t seem to have any friends other than possibly Arlo. Seraphina and Arlo pre-John seemed to have had more of a professional relationship, and while they were not close in level, Arlo did fit the bill of being a fellow god tier, and strong enough to also be brainwashed.
Now letā€™s look at Remi. In episode 60, Cecile says to Remi: ā€œAnd yet here you are... Always hanging around those two monkeys, Blyke and Isen. Letting them treat you as an equal even though youā€™re in a completely different league.ā€ This struck me as odd because, aside from Cecile herself, the Wellston students closest in level to Remi were Arlo, Blyke, and Isen. And who is she friends with? She actually was doing a pretty good job at following that social convention, unless Cecile wanted to be friends with Remi, which she clearly didnā€™t. But... her friends were still not close enough to her level. Was she supposed to just not have friends at all? The answer seems to be a resounding yes. Can you think of any genuine friends that Cecile has either?
Friendship simply isnā€™t considered a necessity for high tiers.
But... why is it that Arlo and Seraphina were brainwashed differently? Creating a societal norm for an isolated group of people is one thing, because those peopleā€™s mindsets feed into each other. Putting pressure on individual families to keep them in line, but doing it all in different ways? That would be near impossible. My theory is that Seraphina recieved the typical high tier brainwashing, and that Arlo was raised differently because he was being groomed to work for the authorities. Seraphina didnā€™t have a set career path planned out for her, but if sheā€™s trying to be ā€œperfectā€ by the standards of those controlling her, sheā€™s bound to end up going in a direction that pleases them. Arlo on the other hand was specifically planned to become an authority figure. Thatā€™s why his brainwashing is so centered on leadership. Also, growing up with direct contact to the authorities makes it more possible for them to customize his brainwashing in this way.
But does all of this apply to high tiers in general, or is it specific to god tiers? Letā€™s take a look at the high tiers in Wellston. We have Seraphina, John, Arlo, Terrence, Remi, Cecile, and Blyke. John is a unique circumstance because he wasnā€™t raised by high tiers, so weā€™ll cross him off the list. Terrence was also unique, so we can cross him off as well. Remi was different from the norm as well. Why is that? Well, Remi actually wasnā€™t raised by high tiers either. Rei said on screen that both of his parents were elites. We can cross Remi off. Blyke doesnā€™t fit the bill either, but thatā€™s easy to explain. He was an elite for a large part of the story, and he shot up rather quickly. We donā€™t know much of his family, but he probably wasnā€™t expected to be a high tier at all, and was raised as an elite. (All of this also serves to emphasize how much of this brainwashing comes from a personā€™s parents.) That leaves only Seraphina, Arlo, and Cecile to look at.
Cecile does seem to have high tier brainwashing, but itā€™s not nearly as intense as with Seraphina and Arlo. She doesnā€™t seem ā€œobsessiveā€, and she wasnā€™t one of the examples Remi mentioned in chapter 50. Itā€™s clear that high tiers are brainwashed in general, but god tiers are kept on a much shorter leash. This makes sense, obviously, because keeping a population in control like that is less necessary the lower the level. However, itā€™s also a chicken an egg situation: god tiers are both more important to keep in control, and also easier to keep in control. Itā€™s important to note just how many exceptions we had to cross off. People like Remi and Blyke arenā€™t actually that unusualā€” a lower leveled high tier is much more likely to have non-high tier parents, or to have not always been a high tier themselves, or just in general, to have way more day-to-day interaction with non-high tiers. The brainwashing gets more and more diffused the lower down the ladder you go.

I was seeing the comic of Emmets self destructing behavior even after he and Ingo reunited and wowā€¦ that implication itā€™s not the first timeā€¦
How many times must have this happened? How many times until Ingo knew snapping him out by a gentle hand on his shoulder? What bad habits did Emmet develop while being on his own? With "Ingo" encouraging him to be more healthy? Just so deliciously dark! I love it?
On the other hand how much strain Ingo's body going through when he has his moments he sees "the man in white" his body switches to "life-or-death-mode" receiving a little bruise could cause him to fall into full panic mode and try to treat it like a lethal wound if not for Emmet snapping him out of it and calming him down again.
While both have their moments of seeing their subconscious guardian angel both react differently.
Emmet is apathetic towards "Ingo" dismissing him since heā€™s not even there. He reacts mentally.
Ingoā€™s whole body could react to small bruises and injuries like they could kill him and depending on his support to get through it. He reacts with his whole body.
Also when Ingoā€™s aware heā€™s probably insecure about all the scars heā€™s got on him now. How many times he almost diedā€¦ he doesnā€™t want the real Emmet to know. Itā€™s bad enough that "the man in white knows"ā€¦
YES YES!!! This analysis is so perfect!!! If you'd allow me to ramble a bit...
Emmet's self destructive tendencies have been going on for a while since Ingo's disappearance. He has his Elesa and his depot agents to support him/remind him to not truly forget about himself (Elesa trying to take more time off from her job to check on Emmet/invite him out to lunch to make sure he eats, the veteran depot agents frequently checking up on him during the day/encouraging him take more breaks/interrupting his smoke breaks "accidentally", ect) but it's been hard to say the least. It will take some time for these habits to truly go away even with Ingo back, especially on his bad days.
BUT ALSO YEAH! Ingo! If Emmet appears at the corner of his eye suddenly or he sees him from a distance (any sort of blurred visage - as the man in white always appeared as) he might have a knee jerk response - a sudden urge to run or seek safety - but ultimately it won't be too serious.
His body reacts the most drastically when he is already in a state of injury and Emmet is within eyesight. Elevated heart rate, shortness of breathe, blurred vision, body tremors: his adrenaline levels will spike to an unnatural level causing a ton of stress on the body, since his mind is basically telling his body that he's on the brink of death. The quickest way to calm him down if it were to get this bad would be to have Emmet out of his sight until he can calm down...Not very ideal when the source of one's panic works the same job as you, in a work environment where slight injuries aren't too uncommon
