#but it just feels so meh that he keeps calling her Nora

maybe controversial??? i guess???? but I very much dislike how Yato still calls her Nora, which is something Hiiro has said multiple times that she despises being called. Like she's always made sure to call him Yato instead of Yaboku because she knows he hates that name. And yet Yato can't reciprocate that with her even here. It's just disappointing to me especially since this is supposed to be a moment where he tries to protect her :/
#blue.txt#noragami#this is NOT yato hate i very much love that after all they've gone through yato still chooses to protect and defend her against father#but it just feels so meh that he keeps calling her Nora#I know he revoked her name but hiiro is still there as a name#it's just kind of a nitpick i guesss#maybe they're setting up for her getting a new permanent name and that's what yato will call her by from then on#i really hope something like that happens because she absolutely deserves a name she likes that she picked out herself#i hate the other names she has especially eyami and mizuchi#eyami makes me feel so sick because it literally means plague#its horrendous and i really disliked takemikazuchi for that even though he's one of my favorite characters#and mizuchi doesn't have a horrible a meaning but its the name f*ther gave her and i want anything to do with him AWAY from her#thanks for listening to my ted talk âď¸

,, mostly ,, cis is such a mood
CDSHFBHSJF yeah... like iâm in the super lucky position of iâm not Largely Bothered by gender itâs not a primary concern of mine but then again thatâs got a lot to do with me just being ,, detached from most things ,,, like i canât be bothered nor content with my Assigned Gender cause i simply do not feel like iâm anyone or anything at any time idfk im floating in space like a piece of jelly no form no shape no anythingÂ
more concretely though if i force myself i donât actively mind the label of girl or female or even woman (though i think the latter sounds a bit weird solely bc i feel like im 8 years old) so iâm like meh itâs not important but then i also donât really? identify? specifically? with those? like. idk itâs difficult cause iâm so weirdly detached from ârealityâ (lol cringe) but ok without getting deep - iâm detached from language at the very least so i just dont care what people call me cause itâs like....theyâre just words.....why would i give a fuck? words mean nothing in the grand scheme of things.
i donât know how to explain this. basically i think what iâm saying is that if i had to definitively SPECIFY my gender i might,, possibly,,,,probably,, . .. maybe say i donât have one ? thats odd to say lmfao but i really do think thats it. but then saying that i feel bad specifically identifying as any label under the Nonbinary Umbrella cause i honest to god genuinely 100% do not care about pronouns or gender labels of any kind like BY ALL MEANS keep calling me she/her and a girl literally just cause im used to it it bears zero meaning to me hell call me he/him and a boy or they/them and a person i literally do not care at all
but then that again makes me feel weird because i know a LOT of people struggle with their gender and how people perceive and refer to them and i donât wanna be one of those people who are like âiâm not cis but refer to me as anything <3âł cause i donât wanna offend anyone or be in the way or just ... idk i super cannot stress enough how much i donât personally care. perceive me as whatever or whoever. it doesnât matter. but personally i donât specifically identify 100% with any gender, if that makes any sense at all.
im just nora pseudophan, your local nuisance.Â

crisana, norandro, jorgeva and amira x dani
ha, anon just wanted all the canon couples. fair enough!
CRISANA:
see, skam s3 is my favorite season of all time, but it has never been because of the love story. isak's story hits in a lot of sensitive places for me, and isak was also the first main character i encountered that was my age. i have a really special connection to him for that reason. on the other hand... i enjoy evak for what it is, but i never saw a future for their relationship after the season ended. in a lot of ways, isak's season ended just as their relationship started, a trope that i've never liked because how am i supposed to think that they will last? how am i supposed to know how they will work as a couple? it's just, ugh.
i had similar thoughts about crisana when i watched s2, except that the love confession scene and cris as a character made it even harder to get into the couple. moreover, the way people brush other characters' roles and presence on other seasons because they're so caught up on cris and joana is like... blegh. like it makes me forget that they're actually a well-written couple at times. because imo, og they never did anything really interesting with evak once they got together. but eskam........ oh, dear eskam.
there's something so beautiful about thinking of all the girls, the teenagers that will grow up watching a relationship like theirs on popular media. their entire subplot (??? can i even call it that) in s4 is proof of how GREAT of a relationship they turned out to be. like, i just wanna SCREAM thinking about it because, how is it possible that eskam saw evak and said "we're gonna make this SO good and we'll take our time and then tie it up in an incredibly satisfying and emotional way" and then did exactly that!!!!!! the way they respect each other, communicate, genuinely try to get to each other without dumb miscommunication. the way they understand each other and lift each other up! the way joana knew how to recognize cris' intelligence when everyone was telling her she's dumb, the way cris knows how to make joana feel worth it and show her affection in such a selfless, loving way. their last scene on joana's pov in s4 was the first time i cried during that season, just because it was all wrapped up so beautifully. because eskam understood that although the appeal of their relationship comes from the soulmate status of every evak couple, they had to also put in serious work to make it all work and they also managed to get that across with grounded drama, and also a hopeful message for people struggling with mental disorders. like AAAAAAAAAAAAA god what a great couple they are. maybe i'm too much of an eskam bootlicker but they're genuinely the best evak there is. i'll die on this hill. i'm so happy young wlw get to watch them as a guideline of what they should expect of a relationship.
NORANDRO: already done :)
JORGEVA:
i mean... it's eskam's fault, without a doubt. i love what eskam did with them in s1: the change of pacing, the way they created jorge, the little story changes to make it more nuanced, i think come together in a pretty satisfying way to show a teenage romance with no real support to last for more than a while. i donât think eskam fully got the gist of what jonas was supposed to be, but itâs for the better if we think of the message in season 1. for that reason, jorge is like the one jonas who i really wouldnât mind coming back to his eva. so why donât i like them?
the answer is simply that i donât enjoy their trope and i donât think eskam made a real case of eva and jorge getting back together. they work well as friends, sure, and itâs clear as day that jorge still has feelings for eva, sure. but like, what tells me that theyâre just ready to go all in again? eva goes through a really great arc and i would definitely agree sheâs in a good place to be in a relationship again, but we know NOTHING about jorgeâs journey. heâs just, silently pining on eva and thatâs it. i do think itâs sweet and the hints of their lost romance throughout the show are wholesome, but thereâs just nothing more to it. jorge and eva work AMAZINGLY as friends! i donât see why they should push a romantic endgame for them. in my head, eva kissing jorge at that party was just a mesh of the excitement of a new era, the nostalgia of ending highschool, the high of being on this place with someone she really cares about, stuff like that, but it just ends there, and itâs great that way. nothing about evaâs character really led to her aching to be in a relationship again, and for me it feels right to end things with her being single and surrounded by great friends.
MAYBE if eskam had devoted some time showing us their progress and romantic potential instead of trying to convince us that kasim was a real, compelling character. maybe. lol.
DAMIRA:
(god, i donât know how long this will be LOL)
i have. so many thought about this fucking pairing. letâs see what we can do LOL. the thing about damira is that i donât think itâs a pairing that eskam had in mind when they laid out the first two seasons. the little hints of a friendship/childhood crush that happened during crisâ season really got the fandom and they quickly became the most popular non-canon ship in the show, so thatâs where i think eskam said âokay, letâs run with thisâ. but itâs just...... meh. like i can tell that relationships like crisana were carefully crafted (well implemented in noraâs season, greatly wrapped up in amiraâs season) but i cannot say the same for dani and amira. itâs almost like virihugo, where they just started giving each other Eyes on the middle of season 3, out of NOWHERE. it just feels forced to me and so i never really felt anything for the couple in question... like, for starters, i think nora and miquel were WAY more shippable than those two, strictly talking about their setup.
if you ever saw any of my posts during s4 then you should know how i actually feel about how they developed their romance (check my anti damira tag for more?) and i donât wanna go through all those specific points again... but damira is not only an infuriating romance, but also a bad pairing in a narrative setting. like, damira clearly exists to answer amiraâs questions about how would the future of a romance with a white guy would be, right? does she get an answer? no she fucking doesnât, their final clip is like âafter all these weeks, we still have no idea so weâre gonna cut things short, go back to our initial dynamic, and wait to see if amira any of us change our minds <3âł. so like, even in that sense damira is a HUGE waste of time, and just like everything that happens to amira during her season it has no lasting impacts on her character or her settings.
and personally, i love couples where theyâre both equal, and communicate at last, and both make great efforts to change so the relationship can flourish. this is why i offer so much praise to norandro and crisana, where in the first couple both character go through tremendous character growth and work through their problems individually before getting together, and in the second couple they show them clashing and fighting just to display their resolutions and show how willing they are to actually talk to each other and keep their relationship stable. dani and amira, on the other hand.... blegh. eskam wants me to think dani is a knight in shining armor for liking amira but thatâs all he ever does. he doesnât defend her in front of his friends, he doesnât make efforts to get to know her and her world, he doesnât communicate his real feelings to her, and the one time he did he humiliated her in public. like, idk, like, even MIQUEL explicitly defended nora when his roommates berated her for not drinking alcohol LOL.
at the end of the day the problem with damira is that it completely misses the point of yousana and its target audience. making yousef a white guy is not necessarily a bad choice if you implement it well (which eskam didnât do btw), but you have to take into account that sanaâs season exists to make a primarily white christian-raised audience relate and stand up for the muslim characters in the show. when the lazier partner of the main couple who makes zero efforts to work on the relationship happens to be white, it just means people will be sympathetic of him, and nor amira - and thatâs exactly what happened in the show. people either thought amira was being too harsh by laying conditions for dani before they even began dating and making sure he respected her boundaries, or just wanted all the drama to go away soon so amira could kiss dani by the end of the season. so like, yeah. terrible stuff.
i wouldâve liked damiraâs impact on the season and amiraâs journey a lot more if it had been about a one sided childhood crush from amiraâs part. i thought their friendship was charming up to s3, and i simply hate that dani is literally in no way an older brother figure for the girl squad, since itâs a dynamic thatâs lacking in the show and it would be a nice way to make dani be some sort of non-creepy eskild for the girl squad (but noooo, his only interactions w the gs are hooking up with eva and dating amira. smh). it wouldâve been fun to have amira intimately dealing with those feelings just to learn a lesson by the end of it, at the time that she also falls for her muslim love interest - which is actually the isak/jonas/even dynamic when you think about it, also something that eskam didnât really do with crisâ season. but also, all of this would mean that eskam had to do the good writing thing for s4, which they kinda forgot to do throughout the entirety of the season so, yeah.
#answered#skam espaĂąa#crisana#jorgeva#damira#i don't think this warrants the a/nti tag but let me know if you think otherwise!

Jaune Doe Pt 3
(Itâs a little janky, but meh)
It will be a few days before Blake gets back to her with anything in regards to the photo, and in the mean time Pyrrha will keep up with Jaune Doeâs slow but steady recovery. Sahv brings her somewhat regular reports - âI think heâs a musician, his fingers move to my music when heâs sleepingâ-, and though Billy lets her know that heâs been conscious and responsive the last day or so, she has yet to visit his room again. She doesnât feel like itâs her place just yet, never mind that sheâs in charge of patient advocacy; surely the poor man wants time to himself to process his situation without a stranger bothering him. Heâs likely had enough of that just with doctors and nurses and security guards.
Ren and Nora havenât been able to get an official statement from him either, not until heâs deemed healthy enough for it.
So Pyrrha makes ample time to study his file at length and run it across Blake -when sheâs available- as to what it all could mean. Being a psychologist, Blake had incredible insight, and her experience with trauma survivors is just icing on the cake. At least, it certainly would be if Blake hadnât looked so dour when the she and Pyrrha met in Pyrrhaâs office.
âEverything okay?â Pyrrha asks gently, standing up on some unnamed reflex.
âSit, this probably wonât be long.â Blake gestures with her hand, putting the other woman back in her chair while she closes the door behind her. Sheâll cross the floor with no real hurry to prop on the edge of Pyrrhaâs desk, appearing comfortably perched. âI checked with the folks at the parlor, they didnât have anything. Turns out, this particular brand of body modification is illegal in Argus, so none of my guys knew a guy who knew a guy.â she chuckles lightly.
âOh. OkayâŚbut,â Pyrrha hesitates, âwhatâs the matter?â
Blakeâs ears flip back. ââŚYang might know Jaune Doe.â
Pyrrhaâs brows rise and her eyes widen. âReally?â
âYeah, but donât get too excited, she kind of hit a depressive spiral after seeing the photos. Itâs going to be a while before sheâll be okay to talk to him.â Itâll be a while before he can talk at all, so itâs fine. âIâm sorry, Blake, is there anything I can do?â
âShe wanted to help, donât beat yourself up about it. But,â she tips her chin and her ears slant forward, âthis brings to mind what I said before, that thing about you maybe not liking what you find.â
Pyrrhaâs brow knits in the middle. âIâd be worried if I did like it. Gods have mercy,â
âSorry I couldnât find more for you, though.â
âBut itâs still a lot, Blake, thank you so much. And tell Yang I owe her big time. If you two need anything,â
âIâll keep it in mind.â Blake smiles softly, her ears up and neutral. âAnything else I can do?â
âJust take care of Yang, I know she needs it.â
Blake nods, sliding to her feet. âSo have you talked to your guy yet?â
âNot yet, soon maybe. I mean, heâll be here a while.â Pyrrha tries not to laugh, but a little giggle slinks through. âAnd whatâs this my guy talk?â
âI mean, heâs a patient, youâre his advocate, and heâs your only case right now. Heâs your guy.â
âBut the way you say it,â she giggles again, a little louder, âso suggestive.â
âNow, Pyrrha, Iâm a professional,â Blake bats her eyes and throws the most innocent look she can at the lawyer, âand I know nothing can come between you and your cat.â
âPfft, Iâm a divorcee, not an old woman.â Pyrrha rolls her eyes and shakes her head. âIâll see you later, okay?â
âLater, wonder woman. Iâll keep in touch.â
â
Everything hurts, at least, thatâs how his addled brain translates the buzzing in his nerves. Sure enough it is pain, but itâs being filtered through a screen of morphine. He still feels the sharp prodding of his broken ribs when he takes a breath too deep, or when he shifts just right to aggravate the lump near the base of his skull, but the drugs keep them mostly quiet, enough for him to sleep when the doctors let him. He hates that they still wake him up in accordance to some kind of schedule, but heâs too scared to say anything about it. Heâs too scared about a lot of things, been too scared for too long to believe heâs safe here. That he could be safe anywhere. Itâs why his pulse shoots up whenever anyone enters his room, doesnât matter who it is. Even the custodian, the littlest old lady heâs sure heâs ever seen, made him jump.
Every time someone wakes him they have questions -How are you feeling? Do you know what day it is? What year is it? Whatâs your name?- and he answers them as best he can. They keep asking, he keeps answering, and he would probably be annoyed by it by now if he could keep track of the ones he had answered and which ones he had forgotten. Even without the blow to the head he feels more than remembers, he knows he wouldnât have most of the answers. His life had felt like a hectic blur for a while now, and while he remembers most of that fever dream, heâs forgotten so much of himself.
His dreams are full of music and faces and places that donât make his heart race, but he has no explanation as to why theyâre there -what they mean to him. So he focuses on the music to help him sleep, it quiets his mind enough to let the exhaustion through to drag him under and keep him there. He has yet to meet the person who owns the scroll emitting the sounds, but he thinks he should thank them. He will, so long as their mere presence doesnât scare him silent; like it had with those cops this morning.
The next time he remembers waking up, the music has stopped, the abrupt stillness in the air making him blink into awareness.
âEvening, sir, sorry if I woke you.â
Only his eyes move, sliding to one side to follow the sound and focus on the incredible form occupying the once empty space beside his bed. Already panic is knotting in his chest and he feels trapped in his bed. His hands that were once resting flat against his stomach have curled into fists.
âIâm Sahv Starborough,â she hasnât missed the change in him, turning on the softest voice she can, âI just came by for my scroll, I kind of need it now. But I got you a little something.â
He just watches her, his gaze jumping quickly from her huge hands to her tusks and back again. Sheâs unplugging the scroll and replacing the device with a smaller one.
âThis just plays music, but it has all the Caravaan tunes just like my scroll. You can even take it with you when youâre discharged if you want.â
ââŚTh-thank you.â itâs raspy and broken, but comprehensible.
Sahv lights up a little, smiling at him, but not too much. âYouâre very welcome.â She finishes setting up the device, lingering just long enough to set the volume to where it had been on her scroll. âIâm here all night if you need anything else.â
He just nods and watches her leave, finally letting himself relax again once her shadow slips out through the door after her. He tries to focus on the music again, doing so with such ease that he doesnât notice when he falls asleep.
When he wakes this time itâs morning, at least he assumes by the pale light coming through the space between the curtains. Thereâs someone else in the room again, but just as the knot in his chest starts to wind up, it releases. Somehow he recognizes those eyes, soft green ones that he would have sworn he dreamed up.
Pyrrha smiles reflexively when she realizes heâs awake and looking at her, pausing just inside the room. âHello again.â
His brow furrows, puzzled. Again? Maybe it really hadnât been a dream.
That smile falters when he doesnât answer. âIâm sorry, do you want me to go?â
He swallows, shutting his eyes for a second. âDo you know me?â he croaks.
âHm?â
âYou said my name before.â
âOh, well, no, Iâm sorry. Iâve only read your file.â
âOh.â The idea of being on file is discomforting, but he ignores it for now. âDo you have questions for me too?â
âNot really, not at the moment. I just thought I would come and introduce myself, maybe talk a little if you were feeling up to it.â
âTalk about what?â
âWhatever, I suppose.â Pyrrha is mentally berating herself for her apparent lack of professional air. For all intents and purposes, this was her client, you donât just talk about âwhateverâ with clients.
âSo who are you? You work here?â
âI do.â She chances to take a few steps closer. âIâm Pyrrha Nikos and Iâm the legal adviser for the hospital. Iâm also head of the patient advocacy department and in charge of your case.â
He swallows again, the corner of his mouth kinking upward just a little. Almost missable. âDidnât think a druggie warranted that much.â
âWell, seeing as you really donâtâŚhave any one else to represent you at the moment, at least until your memory recovers, Iâll be acting in that capacity between you and the hospital. Iâll handle all the legal matters of your case -working with the police and whatnot- as well as seeing to it your best interests and personal rights are upheld while youâre being treated.â
ââŚI hope you donât expect me to pay you.â Because he just remembered all he owned was a pair of pants.
âDonât worry about that.â Pyrrha laughs. âIâm just here to help.â
What a nice sound. What a nice smile. âGods know I need all I can get.â
She didnât want to agree with him too readily, no matter how right he was, so she just nods with inching shoulders. âDo you have any other questions for me? Otherwise Iâll stop bothering you and let you rest.â
He tries to think for a moment, his thoughts breaking up like heâs trying to grab at threads of smoke. âNot now, thank you.â
âOf course. If you should change your mind, you can have someone page me. My office is just downstairs.â
âOkay.â he tries a nod of his own, a stiff dip of his chin. âNice meeting you, Mrs. Nikos.â
âOh no, miss, and itâs just Pyrrha, if thatâs okay with you.â
âOkay, just Pyrrha.â he likes hearing her laugh again.
âAnd is it all right if I call you Jaune?â
âItâs the only name I have right now, so yeah.â
Her cheeks redden a little embarrassed. âSorry, I didnât⌠It was nice meeting you too. Could I come by later, or maybe tomorrow would be better?â
âTomorrow. Yeah, probably.â
âAlright, see you tomorrow.â
Billy is at the nurseâs station down the hall from Jaune Doeâs room, can see down either end of the corridor from there. But they also have leave to watch the monitor feeds for each of the rooms, see the cardiotach for all of the patients. They had noticed the pattern of spikes in Jauneâs heart rate whenever someone went into his room and he happened to be awake, and as observant as they are, there was no way even Pyrrha could slip in or out of there without them knowing.
âHey, Velv, check this out.â
Rabbit ears flit upright from over the counter, Velvet having just straightened from picking up a dropped file form the floor. She quickly rounds the desk and props up on her fellow Faunusâ stout shoulder, taking a look at the numbers on the screen in front of them.
âWhat is it?â
âLook at Doeâs read-out.â
âYeah? What about it?â
âIt hasnât changed in the last five minutes or so.â
âSo?â
âPyrrha was in there just now.â
âSo?â
âAnd he was awake, camera showed the two of them talking.â
ââŚOh. Well isnât that something?â Velvet straightens and stretches with a little chuckle. âBut itâs Pyrrha; sheâs so sweet she could fill our diabetic ward to capacity overnight.â
Billy laughs.
âMakes you wonder how she ended up with that shitty ex of hers.â
âAt least heâs an ex now, though, right?â
âRight.â Velvet nods once, decisive. âIâm hopping across the street for coffee, want some?â
âSays the Rabbit.â
âOh eat me.â Velvetâs ears snap back, but sheâs smiling.
âBut I would love some, just make sure itâs decaff, please, this ticker canât do high octane anymore.â
âYou got it.â
Billy goes back to the monitors after passing Velvet a few Lien for her trouble. They watch Doeâs numbers a little longer, thinking and smirking to themselves. Itâs good, they think; if that poor kid was going to be easy around anyone, it might as well be Pyrrha.

may book round up
24 books this month, a pretty good stack. even though iâm working from home i keep expecting work to swamp me and leave me with no reading time but... that hasnât happened yet? so, good.
silver moon - catherine lundoff âď¸âď¸âď¸ a paranormal novel about a small town in which certain women who reach the age of menopause find another change happening to their bodies. i.e. they become werewolves. i fucking adored this concept and there was f/f romance, but the execution and the writing was sadly pretty boring.
no-no boy - john okada âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ post-wwii, following a young japanese american man who was just released from prison. called a no-no boy because like all other japanese men at the time, he was asked two questions: will you serve in the armed forces and swear loyalty to the us? he answered no to both questions and was detained. the novel follows him grappling with that decision after the war, looks into his friends, family life, race relations, and what itâs like living in a country that despises you. enjoyed it a lot.
the husband gambit - l.a. witt âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ the kind of tropey romance nonsense that i live for. contemporary m/m slow burn fake marriage between a struggling actor, and the son of a famous hollywood producer. there were some meh parts (like, the plotting and the reasoning behind why they had to get fake married was like... are you SURE marriage is the best way to fix this) but i really liked it for the romance and the tropes.
drive your plow over the bones of the dead - olga tocarczuk âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ contemporary polish mystery fiction, following an old woman living in a secluded community in the woods, when poachers and prominent hunters begin turning up dead. really interesting writing and format, and a really excellent protagonist. not sure how much i liked the actual mystery.
the babysitter - jack harbon âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ quick and dirty m/m romance, a literature-loving babysitter falls for the divorced father of the kid he babysits. pretty fun.
zipper mouth - laurie weeks âď¸âď¸âď¸ contemporary fiction that follows a queer, mentally ill woman as she hurdles through life, unrequited love, jobs, and lots of drugs. i enjoyed the themes when there was a coherent one, but i really didnât gel with the style. i guess it was trying to be stream of consciousness, which i have read and enjoyed in the past. but this didnât do it for me. interesting tho, and honestly, i just might not have been the audience for it.
spirits abroad - zen cho âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ a PHENOMENAL collection of stories drawing inspiration from malaysian spirits, culture and folklore. absolutely loved it, fave read of the month for sure. loved the use of language and dialect, and the writing was simple and precise and wonderful. and there were some great f/f stories in here.Â
a cat, a man and two women - junichiro tanizaki âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ the setting: 1920s japan. the characters: lily, a fat tortoiseshell. shozo, her lazy, well-meaning, but ineffectual cat-dad. fukuko, his hot young former mistress, current wife. shinako, his strong-willed, slightly bitter ex-wife. the plot: shinako decides, HEY ACTUALLY FUCK YOU KEEP YOUR HOT WIFE BUT I WANT THE CAT. a great novella about loneliness and comeuppance and marriage. the best part was the cat lol.
the terracotta bride - zen cho âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ really interesting novella about a young dead woman living in chinese hell. sheâs married, and her husband has three wives. the first: estranged, conniving, distant. the second: herself, unwilling but resigned. the third: newly arrived, and made out of terracotta. very interesting novella, beautifully written, grim but hopeful, f/f romance on the side.
king and the dragonflies - kacen callender âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ wonderful queer children/YA book about family, grief, racism, coming to know yourself and also accepting yourself. contemporary, but it almost FEELS like a fantasy/magical realism book.Â
orphan number eight - kim alkemade âď¸âď¸âď¸ a novel about an orphaned woman coming to terms with experiments done on her as a child, when she encounters the doctor who performed said experiments, dying in a nursing home. the writing in this was pretty so-so, did a lot of head-hopping which is my biggest pet peeve. i liked the concept, but the plot and the follow through were meh. loved that the main character was a lesbian though, and some of the writing was great.
firm hand - nora phoenix âď¸âď¸ meh... not for me. m/m contemporary romance following a guy recovering from the car crash that killed his best friend, and his best friendâs son. it went some places that iâm just not up for, lol.
meet cute club - jack harbon âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ REALLY adorable m/m romance, following a dorky, earnest romance novel lover, and the new cashier at his favourite book store. they end up trying to revive the main characters struggling book club, and falling in love along the way. very fun and sweet.
mrs. mix up - candice harper âď¸âď¸ the concept sounded so so cute: an f/f romance about two librarians with similar last names that go to a library convention and the staff mistakenly thinks theyâre married and book them into one room. but the writing and chemistry were lacklustre and it was extremely poorly edited. itâs a shame, i could have liked this.
mine - kim hartfield âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ a sexy f/f romance that i liked a LOT, about a young woman who after a traumatic event in her life decides to quit her job and go volunteer on a farm in the middle of nowhere. she ends up falling for her sexy lesbian farmer boss. it got deep in some areas i wasnât really expecting it to, though it was a tad... idk, preachy? and the conflict at the end was annoying. enjoyed it a bunch tho.
the hobbit - j.r.r. tolkien âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ nth reread! iâve been listening to this on audiobook around bedtime since like... march, i think, itâs just such a comfort read for me.
the knight and the necromancer 1-3 - a.h. lee âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ a very solidly good fantasy m/m romance series, about a young prince and a necromancer in a war against an invading sorcerer. sorta enemies to lovers? the three books span their relationship and the war, and though it was only a few weeks in time, it didnât feel insta-lovey at all. liked it a lot.
the fake game - kim hartfield âď¸âď¸âď¸ contemporary f/f fake dating office romance! pretty cute; didnât blow me away but i solidly liked most of it.
what the wind knows - amy harbon âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ historical time travel romance centred around the aftermath of the ireland easter rising. i spend so much time reading solidly gay stuff that itâs so weird reading things where the existence of queer ppl isnât even acknowledged lol. anyway this was pretty good, i liked it mostly for the historical facts and aspects, but the romance was pretty touching too.
the golem of mala lubovnya - kim fielding âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ LOVELY m/m romance in a small jewish community between a newly created golem and a stonemason. lovely writing and atmosphere and characters. i had my nitpicks with the resolution but holy heck iâm so happy with this.
the electric heir - victoria lee âď¸âď¸âď¸âď¸ the second part of a queer YA duo-logy that i started earlier this year, set in a future dystopian magic-riddled US, dealing with abuse and trauma and survivors. extremely difficult to read, almost unenjoyable at times (because god these kids go through so much) but very very good.
first everything - kim hartfield âď¸âď¸ aha, possibly my last try with this author, though i liked the first book i read by her so much i might read one more! f/f romance between a journalist and a fictional first daughter (whoâs also like, a domme, lol). the plot was fine but a lot of the character stuff and the shitty parent stuff really bothered me.
and that was may! for june iâll... read lots of queer stuff, but i mean i do that every month. i also want to try to read less romance, more thriller and historical and just general contemporary? i feel like i say that all the time, but iâll try. (though i did just get my first ever advanced reader copy from netgalley and itâs f/f romance, so... exciting!) currently reading the 7 deaths and evelyn hardcastle, a thriller. pretty okay so far.

Hello all my fellow people out there in cyberspace. My name is Tyler and youâre watching what Iâm watching. Today we review my most recently finished season or series. Which in this instance is Amazon Primeâs Upload. Since this is my first review let me lay the groundwork for my reviews. We have 4 criteria on a show to get a grade and see if it gets a recommendation.
1.) Story
2.) Characters
3.) Visual Design
4.) Overall Enjoyment
Each criteria is worth 25 possible points
25 - Perfect
20 - Great
15 - Good
10 - Okay
5 - Not Good
0 - Bad
So letâs dive deep into Lakeview
1.) The Story
âIn 2033, humans are able to "upload" themselves into a virtual afterlife of their choosing. When computer programmer Nathan dies prematurely, he is uploaded to the very expensive Lake View, but soon finds himself under the thumb of his possessive, still-living girlfriend Ingrid. As Nathan adjusts to the pros and cons of digital heaven, he bonds with Nora, his living customer service rep, or "Angel". Nora struggles with the pressures of her job, her dying father who does not want to be uploaded, and her growing feelings for Nathan while slowly coming to believe that Nathan was murdered.â Quoting Wikipedia. So I think this premise is actually very interesting. Think about how much media focuses on how technology improves the life of the living and doesnât focus on really a digital afterlife. However if I can be nit-picky, there are some story details that are dropped and picked up as the series progresses. Iâm not gonna spoil anything until we get to overall enjoyment, but just know the story is, overall okay at worst. Score: 20
2.) The Characters
Our main protagonist is played by Robbie Amell who is better known as Fred Jones from the made for tv live action Scooby Doo movies, The DUFF and as the mail carrier in True Jackson VP, wait excuse me
*Hold on*
Well Iâll be damned it is him. Back on track I do think he did a decent job as Nathan, I just wish he got to do more in all honesty so that Nathan actually had more of a character
Our other protagonist is Nora Antony, played by Andy Allo, who you may know from Pitch Perfect 3 and Chicago Fire. Andy played this character amazingly and I thoroughly enjoyed the character of Nora and think she was the best character overall by far. Good on you Allo, I hope to see you in more shows and movies.
We also have Ingrid Kannerman, Nathanâs girlfriend played by Allegra Edwards, who did great I think playing Ingrid. She plays a prissy bitch who is deeper than she lets on and I know weâll see more of her in the future but here she does great
Zainab Johnson as Aleesha is tied for my favorite character in the whole show. Sheâs that one person you always want in your corner and is such a bubbly personality and I love her.
Finally for the main cast we have Kevin Bigley as Luke. All I can really say is, meh. Heâs the comic relief character who I think could have been handled so much better. No shade onto the actor, weâll get to why in a moment.
However shout out to Elizabeth Bowen for being my other favorite character, Fran Booth, the detective cousin, shame she wasnât around more.
Score: 15
#3.) Visual Design
Honestly I cannot praise the teams enough for the visual design. Everything from the scenery to the backdrops, lighting and it was handled very well. In the virtual world there is so much brightness and in the real world shots thereâs a sense of grit and despair that contrast well to the showâs story. Score: 25
#4.) Overall Enjoyment
*SPOILER ALERT*
*THIS IS THE SECTION WHERE I CAN DISCUSS ANYTHING, SPOILER WARNING IF YOU WANT TO WATCH THE SHOW THROUGH AND THEN COME BACK*
*LAST WARNING, OKAY HERE WE GO*
So did I enjoy Upload? Well, maybe. You see my problem with the series is one thing. Number one is the script. You see when you look up this show online, it calls it a Sci-Fi Comedy, problem is that itâs not a comedy. While comedy is a necessary ingredient to keep a story this heavy from dragging the audience down, it wasnât handled the best. Luke was a generic character with some quirks but nothing that made me laugh. Thatâs the thing is that I was more entranced with the romance between Nathanâs Murder and Nathan and Noraâs relationship than anything else. However I feel like neither one gets fulfilled to any real extent in the end. For the first half the whole murder story is played as a joke until halfway through, same with the romance. Also what is with all the damn sex scenes. I know this show is rated TV-MA, but Jesus. And thatâs all in the first half, so thereâs this tonal whiplash between episode 4 and 5 that is weird to me. I donât blame any of the actors for any of this, I feel with a more consistent script it could have been better. I mean the concept is stupendous, how do you make that the most different part. Although as a sci-fi romance show, it actually has some appealing traits. It shows the pros and cons of a world corrupted by greed, App Store physics and micro transactions brought to a real life setting. It really is a good cautionary tale on technology and greed and that I can get behind whole heartedly. I just donât understand the failed attempts at humor, maybe itâs just a me thing I donât know. Also that finale was unsatisfactory in more ways than I can describe through text. Score: 15
Overall Score: 75/100 - Good
Recommendation: Watch It If You Want
TV System Rank: TV-MA (17+)
Services: Amazon Prime Exclusive
Release Day: May 1 2020
So I do recommend Upload to those who want to watch it. While I donât think it was a pinnacle of a series that most hold it to be, I can say that I donât regret watching Upload. Lucky me this showâs getting a Season 2, and thank god because if it got cancelled after one season (a la AJ and the Queen style), then Oh boy thereâd be a different tone to this whole thing. That ending was not satisfying, just putting that out there now.
If you have watched Upload, feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments. Feel free to leave me some recommendations what to watch next and Iâll take them into account. Until next time, thank you for reading

So I binged RWBY season 7 today and made notes. Here are said notes and thoughts on the episodes!
So my notes will probably not be in any particular order because my brain hops from point to point and forward one and back three so sorry if itâs confusing!
Ep 1:Â
Qrowâs voice actor gave me a heart attack, I forgot they changed his voice actor. I honestly thought I was watching Darker than Black or My Hero Academia with his voice. But I like it! Jason Liebrecht is one of my favorite voice actors!
James Ironwood makes me so sad because I love him and heâs trying his best.
I had a problem initially with the animation of the fight scenes, I think they just seemed too⌠smeared? I canât quite place it but I had a hard time keeping up with what moves the characters were performing.
I wish I could have seen the tuning of Mariaâs eyes! I was getting serious FMA vibes with automail and whatnot but I didnât get to see the procedures Doctor Pietro performed!!
Oscar getting to fight was probably one of my favorite scenes, I love my farm boy and Iâm hoping Ozpin comes back at some point!
Iâm⌠conflicted on Penny returning⌠I mean, it makes sense that she would be rebuilt, but as something that had an impact on Ruby in the past with her being destroyed⌠they kind of just⌠brushed it offâŚ
Ace Ops! I like them already! I got a request for someone from Ace Ops and Iâm excited to get to know them all!
Also, I would have preferred it if RWBY went with security in the beginning (IT PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEEN A LOT EASIER), but they have to be rats and not do that so meh.
Also, Weiss is worried about being sent back to her dad. Call me dumb, but isnât she a legal adult and doesnât have to live with him if she doesnât want to? Like? Legally she has a say?
Ep 2:
I have a feeling the Ace Ops are treated like pit bulls, have a bad rap and people either hate them or are terrified. But they are intensely loyal and are actually good people.
Ok ok ok, they want to see Ironwood, illegally mind you. By breaking in and sneaking in to see him. But the second they get caught (RIGHTFULLY SO, YOU ARE SNEAKING INTO A KINGDOM) and are taken to see him legally⌠they get all mopey and sad. JUST OBEY THE LAW PEOPLE
I donât know why Iâm so focused on the detail in everyoneâs shoes. But I am.
Winter is in the right for being upset at Weiss. I WOULD BE TOO.
I AM SUPPORTING AND TRUSTING IRONWOOD, JUST SAYING THAT NOW
Ironwoodâs plan makes sense, I do believe the people should know about Salem.
Also, why is Qrow all buddy buddy with Ozpin again? He was talking about him like he missed him, but I was under the impression that he hated Ozpin after learning his background.
WHY ARE YOU LYING TO IRONWOOD RUBY?! THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU DIDNâT WANT WITH OZ. I can tell Ironwood knows something is off but he canât tell what.
Not sure when to put this, but i hope they bring up everything with Adam, like I hope it is part of Blakeâs and Yangâs character development.
Qrow getting a hug from Ironwood makes me happy, he needs some happiness and friends in his life!!
I like the Ace Ops, the guy with the wolf tail is going to be one of my favorites I can tell But Iâm biased and like anything to do with dogs.
Ep 3:
UPGRADES TO THE WEAPONS YES
This leader of the Ace Ops is really cool, I like him but I canât really get the image out of my mind that he probably plays soccer or something. Like a soccer dad or something.
The initial designs or Team RWBY looked cool in theory, but I donât think they translate to the animation style very well. Iâd have to say Rubyâs is probably my favorite, except for her hair. She looks like a duck. It looks like they were almost going for an Edward Elric or Meliodas style cowlick but it didnât work out too well.
Again, wolf faunus guy is going to be my favorite.
The zippers of Blakeâs costume is bugging me, just a note.
And Oscar bringing up the lying is great and I love it.
Not going to lie, Blake getting attacked by the Haunter looking grimm or whatever it was, gave me a big jump scare.
Centipede grimm⌠whatâs 1000-7 anyone? No? Okay Iâll shut up.
I want Qrow and the leader of the Ace Ops to be friends, Qrow needs friends.
I LOVE THE ACE OPS ITS OFFICIAL
ALL OF THEM ARE MY CHILDREN
Also itâs really nice to see graduated huntsmen in action, working as a team and all. We really only have seen Qrow by himself but itâs cool to see a team in action!
Another speed semblance is awesome and I love it!!
Clover has a good luck semblance? Why is that so funny to me?
Also watching Marrow parade Ruby around is the epitome of cute.
DAMN IT TYRIAN DONâT SCARE ME LIKE THAT
Also, did they ever explain why his eyes turn purple?
Ep 4:
I like that the Ace Ops are civilized with each other but donât act like best buddies. Itâs a really cool change from the buddy buddy attitude of RWBY and JNR.
Iâm still hating Jauneâs hair cut.
Yaaaaaaaaaaay murder!
Iâm also not sure how I feel about Qrowâs outfit, it almost makes him look like a toy soldier.
And yaaaassss Ironwood bashing Jaques is one of the best things ever.
Also I think theyâre forgetting the fact that Weiss is a legal adult?
And Papa Schnee is gaslighting Weiss, I hope people call that out.
Heâs also threatening military personnel and Ironwood at that. You know that talk about the noose and stuff⌠Isnât that illegal?
I can tell Penny is going to bug me, I really believe that she couldâve been written out.
Really dumb, but can Yang feel pain if she disconnects her arm? How does she move it? Is it like Fullmetal Alchemistâs automail?
I think Ozpin does trust others with the whole truth, not just himself. I think Qrow is lying to himself to make himself feel better.
I 100% believe Summer would have trusted in Oz and pressed on with what he had planned. But hey, thatâs just me.
It still throws me off when Watts talks because heâs also All Might and those are two very different people.
I feel like they are trying to build tension by ending every episode with the villains, but thatâs starting to get old and Iâm only on episode 4
Ep 5:Â
Ruby is a morning person and itâs already wearing me out.
This almost slice of life scene is really nice!
I like that it shows that team RWBY and JNR are really adept at fighting and all, but it also shows that Ace Ops are superior.
Nora riding her hammer like a Mario Kart is awesome
YAY NEONâS BACK
Also Neon, Oscar is like 14, back off
Ren is being sad boy and it makes me sad too.
Qrow and Clover having a minute to be friends is nice!
And how easily did Qrow give up drinking? Thatâs not really something you just⌠give up?
Robyn (Robin?) makes a good point, Mantle does need help and they arenât getting it. But sheâs going about it the wrong way.
Pipsqueak and 5 oâclock shadow are excellent nicknames.
Training between Winter and Weiss is really cool! I like the little sisterly bonding scenes are really sweet!
Weiss makes a good point, everyone is doing what they think is right, even if it doesnât look like it.
I donât like that they are keeping the Winter Maiden almost as a prisoner, but I can also see why heâs doing it the way he is. And the fact that Winter is accepting it the way she is is such a breath of fresh air from a classic heroâs arc she couldâve been put down.
I still trust Ironwood! Thatâs all Iâm saying!
I also believe that Yang and Blake should branch out and work with others, not just each other. It isnât healthy. Especially if the writers arenât TALKING ABOUT ADAM.
PLEASE TALK ABOUT ADAM, THATâS A HUGE TRAUMATIZING EXPERIENCE THAT THEY ARENâT TALKING ABOUT
Ep 6:Â
Noraâs bringing up a point that is really important!! Maybe Ozpin couldnât beat Salem but maybe someone else can! Maybe Ruby can once she gets a hold on her silver eyes!
Marrow is still my favorite, I love him so much.
The little sheep faunus that follows Robyn around is so cute. Her weapon is not so cute. But I love her anyway. I LOVE FAUNUS OKAY
I feel like Rooster Teeth is trying to push the subtle message of getting registered to vote and Iâm lowkey cackling.
Okay, serious thing here. I love that Renora is a ship that sailed. Really I do, itâs probably my favorite RWBY ship. (though I like to think it sailed a while ago) But I feel like we didnât really earn that kiss? Like I feel like it would have been better if they hadnât argued and like it was a last ditch effort to stop said argument. I donât know, I have a lot of feelings about it.
Watching Tyrian in action is super cool! The way he was animated is so fluid and mesmerizing and I really love it! Great job Rooster Teeth!!
Also Watts almost looked like a conductor and if thatâs what Rooster Teeth is going for I applaud them. But also, on the funny side, it looks like heâs waving his arms around like a maniac.
Penny being framed is really neat, but why do I feel like itâs going to be brushed off?
Marrow telling everyone to stay is hilarious to me and I love it.
Papa Schnee pledging to serve while Grimm are attacking is a really cool parallel.
According to the end credits, Iâm taller than Ruby⌠For once Iâm taller than an anime character other than Edward Elric!
Ep 7:
Pennyâs head pat is so cute.
I understand why Ironwood put the ban on assembly and the curfew up. It makes sense while theyâre trying to catch Tyrian.
Also the semblance that gives someone the ability to turn things invisible?! Dude thatâs so cool!!
Everything Ironwood and Ace Ops are saying makes sense. I can see how his mind is working and I can tell heâs just trying to keep everyone safe.
Also, where has Maria been? What has she been doing?
âWhy canât people do what they used to and fight to the death?â Maria I love you.
Blake being Batman over here, my goodness.
Blake using Dust with her semblance again! Finally!
Hahaha cutting off swearing is probably one of my favorite tropes.
James wanting to ask and talking to Ozpin hurts my heart. I just want Ozpin back!!
Seeing someone still messed up by the Fall of Beacon is really nice, everyone else seems to brush it off.
Ep 8:
I hate dinner parties⌠I have a feeling this wonât go wellâŚ
âSir, with all due respect, youâd have to pay me.â OMG Winter Iâm dead XD
I hope Weiss has a song in this like âThis Life is Mineâ I really really hope she does.
Also THIS IS THE PERFECT CHANCE TO HAVE FORMAL WEAR
I WANT TO SEE THEM IN FORMAL WEAR
Awww I liked Klein :(
Qrow and Cloverâs friendship is so nice, I like it :)
Part of me wishes Whitley had a wardrobe upgrade. It would have been a nice change of color!
Oscar eating in the background is me in any social situation.
Why does every rich businessman have a long ass dining table? Seriously? Why?
Ren looks so proud of himself, also seeing Whitley doused in wine is hilarious. Also, purple really is his color!
Guys? Please let Ironwood talk? You want to know why but you keep interrupting him before he can get a word out.
YAS WINTER GO OFF ON HIM
Itâs also a nice touch that all the people on Papa Schneeâs side has wine while everyone else has water, I donât know if it was intentional but I noticed it and thought it was cool!
Weissâs mom is very pretty! Iâm also really glad to see Weiss actually talking to her mom. And seeing her mom trying to talk some sense into Weiss is really cool too.Â
Ep 9:Â
Ok ok, PLEASE STOP INTERRUPTING IRONWOOD! DIDNâT ANYONE TEACH YOU BETTER?!
Question about Robynâs semblance, would it work with Ironwoodâs prosthetic side?
âYou are under arrest! Can I do that?â One of my favorite quotes in this show.
Please Winter, just sock Papa Schnee in the face.
Yes James, Robyn knows. Because people who CANâT KEEP A SECRET TOLD HER
I forgot how much I love the designs of the bigger grimm, I mean. The other ones are fine. But the giant ones? Masterpieces
Iâm starting to ship Robyn and Ironwood, they have the potential for âenemies to loversâ kind of fanfictions.
âYou arenât alone.â OKAY RUBY HOW ABOUT YOU TELL HIM YOUR SECRETS?!
Stupid question I started thinking of, how much do Huntsmen get paid?
âUgh kidsâ I feel you Marrow, I feel you
Please give Ironwood a break, he needs a vacation. Petition to give Ironwood a vacation!
The music, I keep forgetting how much I love the instrumental music in RWBY.
Aaaaaaaaand Neo and Cinder are back⌠no one saw this coming⌠BECAUSE IT WASNâT SET UP BEFORE
Writers of RWBY⌠please set up things like that little by little! Even if it was just something small, like a glimpse or something! Not just throwing them back in the story because of the potential conflict it would cause!
Ep 10:Â
Yesssssss big strong queen on the Ace Ops!
The slow piano during Ironwoodâs speech is really pretty. Itâs giving me goosebumps!
Ironwoodâs speeches are some of the best anime speeches Iâve ever heard, the music choice really helps make it so much more impactful.
âOur tin soldierâs heart has lost his mind.â Nice tin man reference!
âThe timeline has changed.â Cinder are you a time traveler now?
HELL YEAH IâVE ALWAYS WANTED SOMEONE TO HAVE A BAZOOKA
Also, I think people forget just how terrifying elephants can be until they are RUNNING RIGHT AT YOU
Ruby this would be really nice if you would use your silver eyes right about now
Penny looked legit like someone out of Dragon Ball Z and itâs making me cackle.
The whole thing with Robyn, Qrow, and Clover vs Tyrian is something Iâve heard very vague things about and Iâm not looking forward to it.
SUPERHERO LANDING BITCH
All Might vs Ironwood⌠IâM READY!!!
Ep 11:Â
FINALLY AN IRONWOOD SONG
Iâll have to look at the lyrics after, but itâs really cool to see Ironwood in action!!
I mean we saw him in action back at the Fall of Beacon, but this is against another human being!
A detail I wish was added was Ironwoodâs punches landing differently with half of his body being metal and the other half being flesh.
Also Ironwood⌠Please be okay, please donât lose an armâŚ
The fight between Tyrian and the three was very short but very clean and nice!
Ironwood falling into paranoia is out of character in my opinion. But you know, just my opinion, the writers donât seem to care about him much.
OH SHIT SALEM
âSet the stage for me.â You and what army?
RIGHT THE FLYING MONKEY ARMY I FORGOT
Summer Rose and the screaming is messing with my head.
Apparently itâs messing with Rubyâs tooâŚ
I donât know why theyâre so worried about Ironwood doing what heâs doing. It does make sense. And team RWBYâs choices are finally coming to bite them in the ass, it makes me happy!
Except for leaving Mantle to die, I think thatâs the only thing I donât like. But casualties are always a part of war.
Okay RWBY⌠you guys are a bunch of kids, and whatâs your plan? You donât have one! Ironwood came up with a plan against Salem! It does mean people are going to die and yes itâs sad, but people die a lot and more are going to be killed if you try and do something stupid and reckless.
But Iâm anticipating that RWBY and Co. are going to win because of their protagonist powers.
Ep 12:Â
Children children donât fight. Though Tyrian is making me laugh.
I wish they all talked about it like civil adults, but I suppose Robyn is a bit too childish.
I want Ace Ops to win, but they wonât because protagonist powers and it kind of pisses me off.
You know, all Marrow has to do is use his semblance right?
As gross as it is, itâs kinda cool seeing how Tyrian got out of his restraints.
OK WHY IS HE TEAMING UP WITH TYRIAN?! It makes no sense? It wouldâve made more sense if they both teamed up on Tyrian and then fought after, maybe they wouldnât have had to fight because Qrow genuinely found a friend in Clover so heâd give up so he can also get to Ruby.
Also Blake and Yang probably broke her back.
Seeing Ruby go toe to toe with someone and only won because Weiss intervened was cool.
Aaaaaaaaand Ace Ops is down and Iâm pissed.
AND NOW CLOVER IS DEAD?! YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN THIS COMING ASSHOLE!!
TEAMING UP WITH A SERIAL KILLER AND EXPECTING HIM TO NOT KILL HIM IS LIKE EXPECTING SOMEONE NOT TO BREATHE.
Clover just wanted to trust Qrow. THATâS ALL HE WANTED.
But not gonna lie, seeing Qrow cry still makes me upset.Â
It seems like the writers are taking away anyone who either gets shipped with Qrow, or whoever he has a relationship with that isnât RWBY. Ozpin? Gone. Ironwood? Pretty much estranged and not seeing eye to eye anymore. Tai? Who knows whatâs happening with him.
Ep 13 (Finale):Â
Iâm not excited for the finale.
Iâm really not.
But starting it off with a fight with Neo is a cool idea.
Seeing her fight using her umbrella is always one of my favorite things about her character.
And now a fight with Cinder vs Winter and Penny.
âIt just makes us hungrier and I refuse to starve.â Really cool quote! Even though Cinder is probably one of my least favorite characters.
Winter using her summoning thing to make a manticore was super cool too!
Penny saving Winter, please tell me they become friends after this.
âMy life doesnât matter!â âI disagree!â Okay okay Penny gains one point in my character list for this quote.
Seeing Neo as Nora was cool, though I donât understand why Ren was hesitating to attack her. Theyâve surely spared before right? Like he shouldnât hesitate that much?Â
But him crying is really really sad.
YAS BOSS ASS BITCH WINTER MAIDEN OLD LADY
I really wish we couldâve seen her personality more, she seems really nice.
Though I gotta say, her exploding with power was really epic.
Ren please donât scream, it hurts my heart.
Please donât make Penny the winter maiden. If she becomes the maiden then Iâm going to riot.
DAMN IT SHEâS THE MAIDEN
That pose Oscar, youâre becoming Ozpin. And I miss my wizard. I want him to come back.
Him using the cane as an actual cane because heâs injured is really cool. Plus the fact that he draws so much comfort from Ozpinâs cane is so sweet.
Ironwood is going down a dark path because the writers want him to and itâs pissing me off to no end.
SHOOTING OSCAR ISNâT IN CHARACTER FOR IRONWOOD OKAY?!
Winter cutting off Cinderâs arm is one of the best things in this episode
OZPIN IS BACK AND THATâS ALL I CARE ABOUT
Now Ruby decides to use her silver eyes?
OZPIN IS BACK BITCHES
Literally all I care about is Ozpin coming back, though the song is pretty I guess.Â
Part of me is happy Qrow is arrested.
Winter forcing Weiss and Co to run is really sweet and touching in her own way. She just wants her sister to be safe.
Cinder ticks me off, sheâs very childish and if thatâs supposed to be the point itâs working. Sheâs not really all that intimidating
Now Salem has a flying whale? Is this a reference to the whale that swallowed Pinocchio?Â
OSCAR HAS MAGIC
OZPIN IS BACK
I WILL NOT STOP FREAKING OUT ABOUT THIS
Thatâs all my thoughts on this season of RWBY! Thanks for reading if you got this far! And my requests are OPEN for male rwby character x reader requests!

The Good, The Bad, and the Dirty: RWBY Vol 6 Ep 13
#GayForSummerRose
#BeesConfirmed #RenoraStyle #RTWhatAreYouDoingWithMyEmotions #ThisShitIsIllegal.
Overall rating: 8/10.
A.N.: RT provided us with an official âLook how far weâve come.â
The Good:
Okay, I can definitely say I love this season finale more than the vol 5 finale. yes, even if Vol 6â˛s greatest tragedy is having no Raven in it, I have to say, the rollercoaster of emotions the last 16 gave me were a thrill.
Where to start?
Letâs kick it chronologically. Watched it 2 more times for this.
"Yes, and we just ruined the only thing capable of stopping it.â
I want to applaud Kara for her delivery of this line. It was cold, in a very Grimm tone. Loved it!
I think the structure of the episode was well thought as most of the contents of this episode belong in this section:
Set up:
This whole episode is mainly centered around Ruby. She is the one the camera will follow and point and for reactions, this is crucial for the emotional beat of this episode.
Cordovinâs redemption is set up at the beginning of the episode and follows a good narrative in the next 16 minutes.Â
Blakeâs state and struggle is acknowledged by those around her, specially Yang and Ruby. This scene is great, not only because it cements that what Blake went through is not something to be shrugged off, but because also provides with one of the most wholesome moments of the whole episode: Ruby looks at Yang and she knows.
Maria comes in and paints an objective:Â
The utilitarian route - They take the chaos as an opportunity to run.
The idealist route - They stay and fight, even if they are at a disadvantage.
Camera focuses on Ruby for choice â> Team for back up â> Back to Ruby for confirmation. She is the one who makes the call.
Strategy one: Doomed to fail.
Ruby states that she HAS to do this.
Build up:
Cordovin reaches her breaking point as she listens to Rubyâs resolution.
Cool flight sequence.
Plan fails.
New strategy which focuses a lot more on team effort. I love the scene were Blake goes over to Weiss. We are Weiss stans first, RWBY fans second. The fact that everything feels connected, shows you this was more thought out than the Vol 5 ending battle sequence (With the exception of Cinder vs. Raven vs. Yang). Ren and Jaune are out of the game, no aura. Yang and Nora are to distract the Leviathan. Blake is there for emotional support, she has no aura and Gambol Shroud is broken. Weiss is giving Ruby method of transportation.
Ruby faces the Leaviathan: This is the official RT RWBYÂ âLook how far weâve comeâ montage, I say this not only because this is meant to show Rubyâs memories, but because most of the time, the clear point of view of these is not Ruby, but the audience.
Toddler Yang + Young Taiyang: Emotional connection to childhood from Ruby/ Reminder of the fan favorite Burning the Candle episode.
Zwei joins the team: highlight of the time at beacon/everyoneâs fav corgi.
Food fight: call back to the âgood olâ daysâ/ Everyoneâs favorite fight sequence.
Blake loves tuna: nice team building/One of the funniest scenes for the FNDM.
Penny: scene were she tells Ruby she wants to leave Atlas.
Vomit boy: First time Ruby saw Jaune/Some old FNDM nicknames.
Team JNPR at the noodle station.
Pyrrha â> ANGST TRIGGER.
Jaune training at night: Ruby was woken up every night by this/Sad Arkos moment that hit everyone.
Yang losing an arm: scarring memory for Ruby to see her sister like that/one of the most telling shots of Vol 3 ending.
Yang closing up: see above.
Pyrrha dying.
Penny dead.
Rubyâs powers donât work, focus on the Leviathan noticing her. Zoom to the lamp.
Pay off:
JINN INTERVENTION! Set up for future volumes, probably one of the smartest moves Ruby pulled up ever. And itâs perfect tied in to the way Ruby react after being reminded of the relicâs existence and how it affect Grimm, established in earlier episodes.
Continuation of montage:
Team RWBY ready for mission: fond memory/of of the iconic moments of the first volumes.
Weiss apologizing: Official beginning of their friendship/Iconic moment of vol 1.
Blake cheering: old classes/memeâd image.
Yang telling Ruby she will always be there for her: emotional contrast to the last Yang flashback/connection of Yangâs short to her self-sacrificial nature/mother hen attitude.
Vol 2 Ending: crisis avoided when the bad guys were easy to deal with.
Dance: Another excellent scene from vol 2.
Team JNPR together.
Qrowâs first appearance: emotional core of Ruby/Qrow relationship.
Oscar hopeful.
MarĂa giving Ruby lessons.
Penny when she confirms they are friends.
SUMMER ROSE OMFG
Gotta say, I wasnât expecting to see her this soon, but I am so fucking glad to see her! I can finally draw all the Team STRQ Iâve wanted to draw! She's so fucking pretty aaaaaaaaaa
Does this confirm STRQ backstory soon?
Ruby is able to stop the Leviathan momentarily.
Cordovin redeems herself.
Now, we get to skip all the fight, which I find to be a great choice. After the last 3 episodes of constant action, we need a breather. We need interactions, a slow down of the pace and some discussion.
We get the small closing scene for the Qrow and Ruby arc. She restates her love for him and Qrow realizes he has someone new to inspire him. Itâs very important that he hesitates before taking a drink, and actually pouts his flask down down.
MarĂa is also inspired by Ruby. After patting Qrow in the back (metaphorically), we get a reinforcement of team RWBY + JN_R + Oscar as the new generation who take on the mission of saving the world and protecting others as huntsmen.
We got some wholesome and organic exchanges between the kiddos. Itâs so refreshing and welcome to see them interact, even if it seems like something so ordinary and miniscule.
Bees get confirmation Renora style. Volume 7 will be filled with filled with Bumblebee yâall! Happy to see they will explore their feelings for each other after they settle the Adam fiasco. They can move on and build a healthy relationship together.
When the Renora kiss tho.
Oscar reveals that Ozpin helped him land the ship. This is super important! Ozpin shows that he has faith in them, and instead of taking over, he shows his support and guides Oscar. This is a very good sign, even if it leaves a sour taste in everyoneâs mouth.
Good for the Ozpin arc.
I love the way Atlas looks! Itâs an interesting way to protect the city from oncoming Grimm attacks after what happened to Matle. I wonder however, how they keep the city up and what plan of evacuation/defense they have for the impending invasion.
Itâs clear the set up for the next season is more political and Iâm all here for it!
The Bad
The way Yang and Blake to join the others at the beginning of the episode has me face palming. How the fuck could they have gotten there in time when they were both tired, with no aura left and shocked after what they went through?
That was cheap as fuck, Iâd rather they fly to pick them up, that woudl have added what? 1 minute to the 16 minute chapter?
The Dirty
The first scene of the whole episode is completely disconnected for everything else, and though itâs a clear set up for volume 7, I feel it would have been a better post credits scene than the one we got with Salem that was a huge meh.
I will make a Vol 6 review in the future (cause I canât decide if I like it better or worse than Volume 5), but for sure, the Cinder scenes are completely out of place and only serve for set up for volume 7. They are so clumsily implemented, I canât believe they couldnât set up a theme to have them make sense.
Anyways, this is here for the following reasons:
Good callback to Pyrrhaâs death. That exchange clearly triggered the audience because boi weâre not over that.
Cool new outfits, kind old how the CRWBY keeps pulling these outfits change to indicate a new arc and make it so obvious.
WHERE ARE MY RWBY ALTAS OUTFITS. I NEED THEM NOW.
Nice to see Neoâs Semblance being explored. She has limits, and we know more of how it works.
Still disappointed Neo doesnât use sign language. Iâm pretty sure Cinder would be able to get some context or read her lips, but whatever. I guess itâs too complicated to animate.
Overall rating: 8/10.
A.N.: Okay I am very gay for Summer someone body please help me the thirstâ

Is there a bus stop near your house?: No, buses donât stop around my area and I only ever see them on EDSA, which is like the main highway of Metro Manila.
Do you prefer red wine or white wine?: I hate the shit out of wine but if I absolutely had to drink some, it has to be red. And it has to be more sweet than bitter.
Whatâs the last airport you were at? Why were you there?: NAIA. Iâm literally at the Starbucks right across the airport right now because my mom is arriving from Hong Kong in an hour and I have to pick her up.Â
Who do you live with?: I live with my family. Thatâs a mom, a dad, a brother, a sister, a cat, and a dog.
Do you read reddit? If so, how often and what subreddits do you like?: Yessssss all the time. I always browse through the Popular filter since it already compiles the best recent posts, but Iâm a huge fan of the r/AmITheAsshole subreddit. People who turn out to be the assholes are hilaaaaarious.
Have you recently broken up with a significant other or even just a friend?: No. IÂ âbroke upâ with Aya as a friend when she was being abusive to Jo, but sheâs since started working on getting better and has apologized to our friend group, so sheâs back on my good side.
Whatâs the weather like today? Is it nice enough to go outside?: Itâs 29ÂşC. Iâm glad weâre not in the 30s, but I donât appreciate how warm it still is.
Do you know anyone whoâs had a baby recently?: As far as I know, no.
Have you used a pen or pencil today? What did you write down?: [continued from earlier because I had to pick my mom up lmao] Yes, I used a pen today. It was to write my name on a requirement that I needed to submit to complete my class.
What does your last text message say and who is it from?: "Can I call?â from my girlfriend.
Can you count how many times youâve seen your favourite film?: Must be near a hundred. I talked about this in a recent survey but there was a time I watched Two for the Road everyday for like 2-3 months. I still make it a point to watch it several times a year.Â
When was the last time you ate marshmallows?: I have no idea. I donât like marshmallows; Iâve always hated the texture.
Do you listen to any podcasts? How do you listen to them?: Uhhh no, not really. If I REALLY REALLY like the guest, Iâll sometimes listen to Colt Cabanaâs Art of Wrestling or Chris Jerichoâs Talk is Jericho. But other than that, Iâd rather watch YouTube videos.
How old will you be in the year 2030?: 32.
How often does the kettle in your house get used?: My mom never got one.
Does your skin bruise easily? Do you have any bruises right now? What from?: Yep, super. I donât have a bruise right now but I do have a mysterious cut below my right knee. Have absolutely no idea where it came from, but apparently whatever cut it cut it deep and it hurts.
What was the last thing you spent $150 or more on?: Iâve never spent that amount of money on anything.
Do you prefer yes or no questions or more open-ended questions?: Open-ended. If I sense that a survey is becoming too yes-or-no I usually quit it halfway; itâs too boring.
What brand of toilet paper do you usually buy?: My mom buys the toiletries so Iâm not aware of what brands she gets.
If I knocked on your door right now, would you be acceptable dressed?: Yes. I just got home and havenât changed out of my jumpsuit.
Why did you leave your last job?: Never had one.
What colour were the last socks you wore?: Itâs like a faded green.
Are you studying currently? What level of education and what do you study?: Yep! Iâm an incoming senior in my BA in Journalism.
Have you ever eaten at a restaurant and left without paying?: No, thatâs terrible.
What was the last thing that made you laugh out loud?: Probably something from Buzzfeed Unsolved cause Iâve been rewatching it lately.
Whatâs your favourite scent of air freshener?: Meh, I prefer the natural car smell. Scents make me dizzy.
How many weddings have you ever been to?: Four, I think. All of those when I was a kid; I havenât been to a wedding since 2007.
Do you know anyone named Nora?: I donât think so.
Are your hands and feet in good condition or could you do with a mani-pedi? My fingernails can be trimmed, but itâs not like a mess or anything. When was the last time you played a board game? What did you play?: We played a math version of Scrabble when we stayed over at Lauriceâs house. Iâve never seen a game like it before lmfaaaaao it was so intense.
Have you ever been to a festival for beer or other type of alcohol?: Nope. I donât think that would be my kind of scene, either.
Do you own a record player and/or vinyls?: I donât have a record player so I donât have vinyls.
When was the last time you went out for drinks?: Third week of May. Have you ever been to a strip club?: NO I really want to go to one though.
Whatâs your favourite kind of smoothie?: I donât take smoothies.
Do you know anyone with a âvirtue nameâ? (Google it): Hmm I donât think so, but I know someone who wants to name their kid Prudence.
Would you ever wear real authentic leather?: Never.
Have you taken out the trash today?: Nope, I donât do that around the house. How often do you wear make-up?: Very seldom. I had my face made up several times over the last few months because Kate sometimes gets bored and sheâd want to give me a makeover, but other than that, I rarely get my face done for events.
Whatâs your opinion on The Simpsons?: I have a very soft spot for that episode where Homer sits on the hood of his car and looks at the stars after he separated from his mom. I donât keep track of the rest of the show.
Do you prefer horizontal or vertical stripes?: Horizontal. I donât think Iâve ever worn vertical ones before.
Whatâs your favourite brand of deodorant/antiperspirant?: I donât have a favorite.
Do you know anyone who has been through a divorce?: No. We donât have divorce in the Philippines. So itâs not because all the couples I know are staying strong â itâs literally because no one is allowed to divorce by law.
If you had the money, would you take taxis everywhere instead of driving?: No, taxi drivers can be creepy. Iâd rather drive by myself.
Have you ever done a juice cleanse?: Nope. I donât need it.
Do you have any friends who you canât decide if theyâre attractive or not?: HAHAHAHAHA WTF, thatâs so messed up and such a shitty thing to do. Is the inside of your fridge clean right now or does it need a clean out?: Itâs always clean. My mom doesnât let any spot in the house go messy for long.
When was the last time you washed the dishes?: This morning before I left the house.
Are there any magazines that you read on a regular basis?: Nope, I havenât read one in months.
Do you have to pay for parking in most places in the town/city you live in?: No, not in Antipolo. Thatâs why I love it here. Once I get to the city though we do have to pay for everything, yes.
Whatâs the first thing you tend to do when you have a headache?: Take a Biogesic. Takes it out immediately.
Tell me about your responsibilities at work.: I donât have a legit job yet, but at my latest internship I did news monitoring, press releases, research, and made briefing forms for the media.
Can you hear lots of traffic from your house? Does it bother you?: No. I live in a gated subdivision so it is very quiet here. Have you ever had proper Canadian poutine with the squeaky cheese?: I have never tried poutine, what a damn shame. I wish I can encounter a restaurant that serves it cause it looks SO GOOD. Canadian cuisine is not very prominent here though so idk when I can ever get an authentic serving of poutine :(
Do your parents know how to operate smartphones and/or computers?: My dad is very techy, more so than me. My mom uses her phone for her Facebook and camera and nothing else. She still asks me to Google stuff for her even if her Chrome app is right beside Facebook.
How old are your parents, anyway?: My mom and dad are both 1971 babies so they are turning 48 this year.
Are you allergic to anything? What do you have to do to prevent them?: No. My skin can get very allergic to the environment (especially if itâs humid), but itâs not an allergy or anything.
What song is stuck in your head at the moment?: I havenât been thinking of a song.
Do you hate it when people try really hard, or do you kinda like it?: Idk how to feel about them...like sometimes Iâd think itâs hilarious but other times Iâd feel sorry and just cringe. But Iâm certain I donât hate it.
Whatâs your bossâ first name? Do you call him/her by that name?: My boss at internship is named Dessa. I call her that but I address her with Ms. before her name too so that itâs respectful.
When was the last time you wore a uniform of any kind? What colour was it? I wore my old school uniform last year for funsies because I spotted it in our storage closet and felt a little nostalgic. No reason to wear it, just wanted to mess around. The blouse ws white, the necktie and skirt are plaid.
Do you complete a survey before taking this one? Will you take one after?: No. After this, Iâm torn among a) getting a midnight snack, b) taking another survey, and c) watching RuPaulâs Drag Race since I started getting into it last night, hahaha. Have you ever lost enough weight to drop a dress size?: I probably have, except I wasnât actively trying to achieve that.
Whatâs your favourite kind of bread?: White and brioche.
When was the last time you got pizza? What toppings did you get?: Last Thursday. We got a cheese pizza and a barbecue chicken pizza.
Do you own Monopoly? Is it the original or a special version?: We donât. I donât know how to play Monopoly haha it always seemed just so boring to me.
What was the last thing you said out loud?: "Whatcha doing?â
You have to choose one: cats or dogs?: Dogs.
Would someone being either a cat or dog person affect you dating them?: It probably would. I wouldnât want to be with someone who wants to own a cat with me. I love cats but I would never want them as a pet.
How do you travel to and from work?: I drive myself always. I donât work yet, though.
Do you primarily use cash or card for your purchases? Why?: Cash, because I donât have a card.
Have you ever been to a stadium concert?: Iâve been to arena concerts, if they mean the same thing lmao.

wow the chronicles of narnia the lion the witch and the wardrobe is written about as "well" as most children's literature is because it literally is children's literature. I have literally read a crossover between Harry Potter, Invader Zim, and Tales Of Symphonia by a thirteen year old and it was fucking incredible. I have literally read a crossover between Jak & Daxter, Spyro, Sly Cooper, Crash Bandicoot, and Ratchet & Clank by a thirteen year old and it was also fucking incredible. I have literally read a three part 600K words modern day high school UK AU of Avatar The Last Airbender where Zuko and Katara were obsessed with Stephen King's The Dark Tower series and bands like Paramore and Papa Roach and it was probably the best thing I've literally ever read in my entire life. And the author was only fourteen.
dear fledgling writers who feel sad that their works "aren't as good" as "real" authors like cs lewis and jrr tolkien and ursula k le guin and jk rowling and chris paolini and rick riordan and james patterson and ray bradbury and john green and kurt vonnegut and stephen king and suzanne collins and douglas adams and lemony snicket and se hinton and veronica roth and fuck it I'll even add stephenie meyer to the list:
I can guaranfuckingtee you that if you actually read some of their works you'll see that the only differences between you and them is that they finished writing their books.
the lion the witch and the wardrobe has way too fast of a pace and too much expositional infodumping and too much "x said y then x said y then x said y". tolkien had way too much worldbuilding and lore and linguistics getting in the way of the stories. harry potter is not that great from a mechanical standpoint even if I'm completely disregarding jk's mass quantity of social fuckups. eragon is just okay (although eldest and brisingr got exponentially better but if you think about it that's because he kept on writing). the lightning thief is just okay (and again the series got exponentially better as rick kept writing). patterson is just not that good of a writer (like dean koontz and nora roberts). most of bradbury's writings sucked because they were just propaganda pieces for his own personal beliefs but he literally wrote an entire book every single day for years and when you have that much practice it's literally impossible to actually write anything bad, just mediocre at best. stephen king had a dozen amazing books but for each amazing one there were three or four "meh" ones. the hunger games was a bit clunky & rough at the beginning of the trilogy. douglas adams focused more on humor than on substance and luckily he's actually hilarious. a series of unfortunate events prided itself on coasting on plot contrivances and people being dumbasses to an unrealistically absurd degree and never explaining a single goddamn thing to the audience and never actually having an ending [and even when he did write an actual ending where everyone died it still made no fucking sense because why in the unholy fuck did beatrice become romantic with her uncle lemony? unless it really was actually the fucking baudelaire's mom he was pining for even though that timeline makes no fucking sense because when they were in the vfd they literally weren't even living in the same state AUGH] and so full of plot holes but that was ~part of the charm~. the outsiders was just a straight (haha pun) fucking mess. divergent is famously known for being way overrated and lacking in actual substance. twilight was too slow and dry and fucking MORMON to be at all enjoyable until new moon and even then it was a pile of abusive and ableist and self righteous garbage with a few good subplots, and so on.
now, each of those authors are talented and have written good books, and I won't speak ill of their talents, and am in fact a huge fan of at least half of them, and I at least respect the rest because they work their asses off to make content for their hungry fans. but it just goes to show that books don't have to be perfect. they don't have to be polished and meticulously well crafted and comb a thesaurus and follow every single grammatical construct to the letter and juggle tropes perfectly and stand for important messages and otherwise be anything other than stories to share with people.
and of course there's lots of shitty fanfiction. I've read a lot of shitty fanfiction. I mean shit I've WRITTEN a lot of shitty fanfiction. and I mean irredeemably unsalvageable to the point that I literally don't even wanna know that they exist. I've read things that were so godawful I literally gave up halfway through, purged from my memory, found again, and was punched in the face from the suppressed memories of just how painful it was to read. and I can say the same exact thing about some original fiction I won't mention by name because that would be mean. what I mean by the first paragraph is that those are the epitome of cringe culture in young teens writing, and yet in spite of that were all still masterpieces in their own right.
being a good writer isn't about whether it's original or fanfic. it isn't about whether you're as good as the multimillionaires. it's about saying fuck it and writing regardless of whether other people will like it because those stories belong to you. and you'll never know if the world will love it or if you'll be the next charles dickens or jane austen unless you tell that voice in your head "fuck you, I AM good enough!", put the hypothetical finger to the metaphorical typewriter keys, and WRITE YOUR BOOK.
now of course, your first book will be a mess. but that's called drafting. analyze what's wrong, fix what you can, change what you can't, add more or take some away to fix the pacing, GET A SECOND PERSON TO BE AN EDITOR, but most importantly of all, NEVER GIVE UP. giving up is a 100% chance of never being an author, but trying? it's at least 1%. so if you write a hundred books then statistically at least one of them will be awesome.
just don't compare yourself to other writers. instead, draw inspiration from them.
you miss all the shots you don't take. so don't let the fear of missing keep you from aiming at the target.
and remember:
every master author started off as a beginner.
just like you.
and look, as long as you're better than my immortal and phanslash's hat fic and the my little pony cupcakes creepypasta, then you're fucking golden.
every meh story you write is one step closer to your anna karenina, your war & peace, your moby dick, your pride & prejudice, your jane eyre, your great gatsby, your to kill a mocking bird, your beowulf, your tale of gilgamesh and enkidu, your odyssey, your don motherfucking quixote.
you might not write the greatest book in the world but if that's your goal, your passion is in the wrong place. but if you wanna write that novel so you can say "hey world, I wrote a fucking book, and I'm proud of it. what did you do?" then don't let insecurity drag you under. don't worry about inferiority. just write.

RWBY Recaps: Vol. 5 The More the Merrier
This is a re-posting from October 9th, 2018 in an effort to get all my recaps fully on tumblr. Thanks!
Hello, moon.
Will we ever learn what happened to you? Not in this episode! That ominous shot (countered with the oddly soothing sound of crickets) is just to situate us before we pan down, revealing the gang making their way to the meeting with Lionheart. And honestly? I kind of love everything about this composition. Letâs tick things off:
We have Jaune and Ren mirroring each other with determined expressions and clenched fists. Theyâre ready to kick ass if need be.
Same with Ruby and Nora except they look like theyâre out for a casual moonlit strollâwith the added bonus that Nora is manically thrilled about this adventure.
Yang is pretty blasĂŠ. Been there. Done that. Survived worse.
Weiss? The embodiment of âUgh I could be home right now instead of walking around in this heat this had better not mess up my hair.â
Oscar looks way out of his depth and is hanging back from the rest, as weâd expect given that heâs a farm boy joining a group of elite fighters that have had years to bond without him. Itâs Awkward New Kid Syndrome with a side of extreme danger.
And then thereâs Qrow. Out in front. Suspicious looks all around. Iconic hunched shoulders. Really wants to put his hands in his pockets but the animation isnât quite there yet. Behold, everyone. Our leader.
For real though, jokes aside I honest to god love this opening. Itâs quick and from a practical standpoint sets up only that theyâre heading somewhere as a group, but if you take the time to actually look youâll see each of their personalities shining through. We might bitch about RWBYâs faults, but thereâs a whole lot of love poured into this series and more often than not you can see it in the details.
Ruby pauses then to take in Haven towerâalways one to appreciate beauty even when things are bleakâand then hangs back until Oscar has caught up. Itâs a wonderful little moment between them because thereâs no dialogue and ultimately none is needed. He doesnât stop for reassurance, but he could. Ruby gives him that option and waits until Oscar passes her before continuing herself. The whole scene is heavy and poignant. Thereâs nothing but music until they arrive inside and Lionheart breaks the peace with, âWhy hello. There⌠seems to be more of you than last time.â
Yeah. You can hear the fear in his voice. As if the rest of this setup didnât already scream âTRAP, TRAP, TRAP,â Heâs gotta be super suspicious in his greeting too. Leading them out here in the dead of night. Lionheart up on the podiumâboth figuratively putting himself above them and literally keeping himself out of harmâs way. Then the first thing out of his mouth is a worried comment on their numbers? Suspicious, suspicious.
Qrow: âOh you know what they say. The more the merrier.â
He did the title thing! Love that.
Except the delivery makes it clear that Qrow is also suspicious as hell. No one has drawn their weapon yet, but the fight has already started. Qrow and Ozpin know that this is no simple meeting. Now Lionheart knows that they know. A quick shot reveals both his fear and the fact that he came with a weapon of his own:
Qrow tries to continue the charade by asking whatâs up with the council and Lionheart is so bad at acting casual itâs actually painful to watch. He wants to know why they all brought THEIR weapons while hiding his own behind his back. As if they in any way failed to miss him standing there with it in full view for the last thirty seconds.
I canât with this guy. He's just so bad at being bad I almost feel sorry for him.
(Although, as we in the U.S. have certainly discovered the last two years, the incompetent ones are often the most dangerousâŚ)
As said, the fight has already begun. While Qrow and Lionheart trade subtext Yang checks out their perimeter, immediately picking up on the raven that just happens to be chilling on the banister. A simple, whispered âMom?â and Qrow has his weapon out and a shot off, barely missing Raven as she swoops down beside Lionheart.
Can we appreciate that reaction time for a second? I feel like between Ozpinâs Super Secret Magic and Qrowâs self-deprecating drinking the fandom tends to forget that heâs easily one of the most powerful fighters weâve seen to date. He demonstrated that in his playful spar against Winter, keeping Tyrian on his toes while also ensuring that the kids were safe, and here as he responds blindingly fast to a one syllable word. A few seconds later Raven calls him out for missing or, just as likely, deliberately missing since he doesn't want to kill herâyet. Which makes it all the more impressive that he can aim and achieve the results he wants in such a short amount of time. You 100% do not want to fuck with Qrow.
A nice cut using Lionheartâs back and Raven becomes human once more. In the realm of âartists paying careful attention to how their background characters act,â Oscar is uncomfortable but isnât even looking at the threatâalmost like heâs listening carefully to something the rest of them canât hearâwhile Nora looks downright floored. âThey really are magic,â she says to herself, solidifying with evidence what they'd been told a few episodes back. Â
Okay. Rant time. I still donât buy these reactions. Really not great on the world building front here. I mean, weâve had Pyrrha who controls magnetism, Ren who manipulates emotions, Yang has a Hulk mode that includes changing eye color, Blake can create clones of herself, Weiss is basically a necromancer, Ruby turns into rose petals, give him an episode and Jaune will straight up heal a girl, and Nora herself can store/release electricity. Why is turning into a bird so incredibly shocking? It would feel way more natural if they saw Raven and Qrowâs transformations and went, âOkay⌠so thatâs their semblance?â and then Oz has to explain about the differenceâbeing born with an ability vs. being granted itâwhich is cool and thereâs surprise that thatâs a Thing, but their reaction to the ability itself is still pretty meh. Because theyâve literally seen weirder.
Weâre given no indication as to WHY a bird transformation instinctually reads as more impossible than transforming into rose petals, other than âone is magic and one is not because we say so.â Thereâs no justification behind the charactersâ ability to recognize magic when they see it, especially given the incredibly wide range of abilities RWBY has shown us over the years. Either attach more overt rules to semblances (obvious boundaries where the viewer understands what is and is not possible) or make Ozpinâs magic look radically different. In this world summoning storms and turning into birds doesn't read as radically different. Hell, in many ways Dust, an incredibly common commodity, is more powerful than this supposedly gasp-worthy magic. Why be impressed with Raven summoning rain clouds when Weiss can create powerful winds in her fight against Flynt with just a bit of Daddyâs money?
But anyway. I digress. Â
The verbal sparring continues. Oscar still isnât making eye contact. Raven spouts more of her excuses, Salem canât possibly be stopped, we're all out for ourselves, blah blah blah. Ruby emphasizes that theyâve already done the impossible, but they only achieved that because they were working together. Separation and a pessimistic attitude is exactly what Salem wants. Ruby wants Raven to join them.
And take a gander at that contrast between sisters. As Iâve said before, Ruby is the classic full-of-heart protagonist who believes that almost everyone can be redeemed. As weâll see in a second, the exemption to this appears to be Cinder. Her murder of Penny and Pyrrha highlights her irredeemability in a way that overshadows Ravenâsâand even Salemâsâmore nebulous crimes. The bigger your actions are the harder they are to conceptualize. The smaller and more personal they are the harder they are to forgive. Paradoxically, itâs easier for someone like Ruby (and the fandomâŚ) to shrug off Ravenâs actions because as of yet she hasn't felt their repercussions as intimately.
Yang though? She has. And in this moment sheâs not ready to forgive.
Raven refuses of course and tells Ruby she sounds just like her mother. (Give us flashbacks of Summer!) She summons a portal where a fireball flies through, hitting Ruby square in the chest and allowing the whole evil gang to join the party. We get a closeup on Oscar as he and Oz recognize Hazel, locking them inside while the White Fang sets up their bombs.
Hazel: âNo oneâs getting in⌠and no oneâs getting out.â
Because RWBY, for all its dark storylines, is still hella cheesy at times lol.
Weiss: âSo this was all just a trap?â
Ren: âIt appears soâŚâ
Ah, naive little children. If only you were watching from our fourth wall perspective you would have realized it was a trap more than an episode ago! Too bad.
We learn that Lionheart was the one who secured Team Bad a place in the Vytal festival. Not only that, but heâs been passing information about huntsmen and huntress whereabouts to Salem. Thatâs how they were all murdered and Qrowâs realization of thisâafter spending all that time looking for them and hoping against hopeâis definitely a kicker. âI couldnât find any of them⌠because you let her kill them.â
Keep in mind, most of those people were Qrowâs friends.
Jaune, as weâd expect, is at his breaking point. Pyrrhaâs murderer is standing right there and, as he says, rubbing their faces in how many people sheâs killedââAll with that damn smile on your face!â Weâve had all of two instances of RWBY cursing and itâs definitely needed here. I appreciate that his tears and his anger are basically a call to arms. Most everyone draws their weapon as soon as he's finished speaking. Qrowâs still trying to keep the peace, but Jauneâs very existence is a walking testament to exactly how much these people deserve to be brought to justice.
He yells that heâs going to make Cinder pay for what she did and then comes the most brutal line in all of RWBY.
Cinder: âWho are you again?â
Damn. Theyâre never gonna top that.
Perfect characterization though. As the audience itâs easy to forget who knows who in a big ensemble cast and, more importantly, who cares about who. From Cinderâs perspective Jaune is a nobody she's barely met. Why would she remember him? If sheâd instead made a taunt about his dead girlfriend most of us probably would have just shrugged off the plot-hole, but paying attention to details like this is not only, a) satisfying but b) wonderfully vicious. Way to twist the knife here.
Jaune attacks as we knew he would but Cinder easily blocks him. Ruby joins the fray only to be stopped by EmeraldââYouâre not getting near her.â (Love the devotion.) Yang pairs off with Mercury to settle an old score. Raven orders Vernal to take out âthe heiressâ (rude, she has a name) and in another excellent nod to the switcheroo that tricked both the team and a large chunk of the fandom, she casually throws out that Vernal doesnât need to use her power to kill a kid.
Good excuse too. Considering, you know, she doesnât have any.
No more fake outs. Qrow attacks Raven head on with the announcement that theyâre not family anymore. Harsh, but deserved. Ravenâs âWere we ever?â smells more like denial. We also get a good look at their similar, but differently balanced color schemes.
As their fight takes them out of frame we stay with a rather terrified Weiss. To her credit though she holds her ground against Vernal, assuring her that sheâs âmore than a name.â
Finally, Ren and Noraâever the perfect duoâare left to fend off Hazel. Heâs one of those real asshole villains who has a âcodeâ that they follow. He doesnât want to fight two kids half his age and power level⌠but he has to. Just like he has to keep pursuing his misguided revenge against Ozpin. And he, like Raven, feels the need to announce to the world that this isnât what heâd prefer. Itâs just how things are! Totally out of his hands, Iâm sorry to say.
Weâre seeing a trend with the villains and their justifications, yeah?
With everyone paired off Ozpin-Oscar (I need a portmanteau for themâŚ) sneaks over to confront Lionheart. Lionheart goes from telling this supposed stranger to get himself out of the fight while he can to attacking him with a rock-lava-energy blast thing in like five seconds flat. Of course, our two favorite BAMFs block it with ease and we get the RWBY equivalent of,
(x)
Holy shit this kid blocked my hit??
Beautiful.
The second the cane comes out though everything makes sense and we get another stellar line of âNot quiteâ when Lionheart identifies him as Ozpin. I really love that they let Oscar handle the first half of this battle. Yeah, itâs a little flimsy that heâs able to take on an adult after just a few weeks of training, but we also donât know how much he and Oz are already sharing. Fighting might come naturally to him now in a muscle memory sort of way. Regardless, he kicks ass and Iâm loving it.
âYou found Qrow,â Lionheart says. âHow?â implying that he might have been doing even more work than we saw to keep those two apart. A voiceover from Ozpin wonders what happened to his former ally. The fact that Lionheart knows all the details of Ozpinâs reincarnation tells us that yeah, they were really, really close.
That knowledge is dangerous too. Realizing that Ozpin âcouldnât have had that form for longâ Lionheart gets over the debilitating shock of fighting, you know, Ozpin. We hear him rationalizing in the wonderfully creepy manner of the desperate that this is just a boy in front of him, a boy soon to be Ozpin, and if he delivers the kid to Salem heâll âfinally be free" of her. Sounds a lot like Raven thinking that the relic will protect her; a lot like a hurt Tyrian muttering that sheâll forgive him.
RWBY does a good job of reminding us in small ways how utterly terrifying Salem is...and what that fear drives people to do. Â
This would be the (supposedly) perfect moment for Ozpin to take over. Oh no! Lionheart is all serious now! Oscar is worried! But the only thing Ozpin does is tell him to âfight.â Iâve heard a lot of people in the fandom claim that Ozpin is a monster for his possession, culpable for something thatâs outside of his control. But Ozpin has no desire to take over peopleâs lives like this andâunlike Hazel or Ravenâit really is out of his hands, to say nothing of the fact that he does all he can to actually achieve what he thinks is right. He canât keep himself from merging with Oscar, but he can give Oscar as much agency as humanly possible, including here. The only times we see Ozpin take that agency away is when it really is for the greater good (they canât afford to hide on a farm forever) or when Oscar is well and truly in over his head, like after the fight with Hazel goes on too long. Taking over Oscar at that point is to save his life, akin to forcing someone out of the way of a blast.
But weâll get to that.
We come back to the fight between Weiss and Vernal as Weiss tries to buy herself enough time to summon her knight. Vernal easily cuts through her summoning though⌠which is kind of a relief? In that RWBY (usually) knows when to limit new powers. If Weiss had no real limitations on her summoningâthe time it takes, the energy it requiresâweâd be wondering why she didnât just summon a whole, super-powered army every time they were in a spot of trouble. Too many shows (Supernatural...) craft crazy powerful characters and then conveniently forget about that power when it would too easily solve a conflict.
Also, check out that smile from Vernal.
We segue to Cinder and Jaune. Kudos to Jaune for holding his own one-on-one! He really is Pyrrhaâs student. Remember what other kid managed to hold her own against a freaking Maiden, at least for a time?Â
Emerald wonât let Ruby get anywhere near Cinder. She âowes her everything" after all. But sheâs willing to indulge her (so to speak) and summons up a mirage of Cinder to fly at Ruby. That and the resulting attack startles her enough that she sets off Crescent Rose, the bullet narrowly missing Weiss.
âŚPortent of things to come.
Because weâre back on Weiss and it's becoming clear to the viewer why weâve been focusing so much on her in this battle. A shock from Vernalâs weapon rips out a scream from her, draws Jauneâs attention, and Cinder cruelly asks if heâll âlet her die too.â
Gotta have the fake-out first though. Deciding to take him seriously, Cinder charges with intent to kill and the head-on strike triggers Ruby into remembering Pyrrhaâs death. Her silver eyes instinctually go off, blinding everyone and halting the battle.
Emerald knocks her out fast but even those few seconds was enough to effect Cinder. Apparently once youâre struck by that kind of power your body remembers it. Sheâs down on her knees, clearly in pain, and Jaune takes the opportunity to get a strike in, managing to clip the half-mask she wears.
And yeah. Cinderâs pissed.
Partly from getting caught in one of Rubyâs blasts again. Partly because a ânobodyâ like Jaune managed to hit her. Awful when that power you sought isnât as perfect as you were promised, huh? Jaune makes the mistake though of declaring that heâs not important, only his friends are⌠and Cinder knows exactly how to make one of the good guys suffer.
Why just kill him when you can instead kill the girl he was worried about moments before? Why grant him peace when you can vividly recreate the trauma of Pyrrhaâs death instead?
We have just enough time left in the episode to see the teamâs shocked faces, watch Cinderâs weapon disappear, and then we cut with Weiss in mid-fall.
Itâs a brutal combo of content and editing. Thanks, Rooster Teeth! I hate it!
We all know how things turn out though⌠so that's some kind of comfort. Until next time!
Other Details of Note
When everyone enters Haven tower we see this statue⌠and honestly Iâm not entirely sure what to make of it. Something something itâs a maiden guarding a Maiden relic. Something something broken chains and freedom. Something something Atlas-esque imagery of holding up a worldâŚyou get the idea. Itâs symbolic.
Cinder calls Qrow âlittle birdâ and Lionheart âlion.â Always something wonderfully creepy about villains with a penchant for nicknames.
When Jaune first charges Cinder we pull back behind the chain on the statue and see it sway from the force of his attack. Itâs quick and subtle, but an excellent visual detail to show us how strong heâs gotten. Pre-Fall of Beacon Jaune never would have managed that kind of force.
For all its faults in places, I enjoy how much this fight makes use of space, especially when it comes to Weiss using her glyphs. Itâs not perfect or as complex as what we might have had with Monty, but I think the team is improving in their choreography overall.
Yes, Jaune is well over his schoolboy crush on Weiss---something I'm pleased about---but it still hits hard to have her as the victim here. Out of every team member Cinder could have targeted she chooses the one other girl Jaune might have had legitimate, romantic feelings for. In an alternate timeline, so to speak.Â
So the whole âvillain walks slowly towards the person theyâre gonna kill and everyone who normally has superhuman reflexes doesnât move an inchâ trope is crazy annoying, right? Just putting that out there...

RWBY V6, CH1 Review: Argus Limited
RWBY is back! YAY!!! SO last volume had some... lets say mixed reception. So much so that Miles and Kerry have changed the writing process to have more proofreading done and to have more reception from the higher ups. Regardless of how one feels about V5, it ended with RWBY reuinited, the bad guys being defeated, and the Relic of Knowledge being obtained. The next stop is Atlas. How will this wild and crazy journey go? Only time will tell. But lets see how it starts!
Overview
It starts off... pretty interestingly. First, the snow effects look SO PRETTY. There is no way that they could make natural landscape s look as pretty in Poser like they did here with Maya. Once again, the animation continues to improve and itâs just gorgeous in this chapter. But yeah, we start with a fight already going on on top of a train. The RWBY girls and Qrow are fighting I THINK a bunch of Manticore Grimm. Might be wrong about that one. Itâs got a lot of good moments. Weiss saving Ruby with a âThank Me Laterâ (that Ruby repeats later), Blake and Yangâs combo, JNR joining in with Nora complaining about how stuff always happens to them, and... itâs just so good. But... how did we get here exactly?
Well before we answer that, we get a brief update about Adam. At first we only hear voices as the camera pans through the throne room. We hear Adam return, telling his remaining forces to get away form his throne. But they refuse. They are NOT happy that Adam abandoned the forces at Haven and got defeated by Blake. One guy even comments how ti seems she has more control over Adam than Adam does her. T His makes Adam snap... you know, more than before. We finally see some bodies... or should I say, corpses. Yep, Adam killed what I assume is all the remaining White Fang in Mistral. He also slashes part of his thrown, screaming in rage towards the sky while musing about Blake. Itâs pretty clear that, as Ilia said, the WF is no longer with Adam and he is on his own. And chances are, his focus is going towards the girl who bested him.
So following THAT happy scene, we cut to a train station and Qrow narrates. Heâs written a letter to Ironwood, explaining about the attack on Haven and Leoâs death... well sorta. He... bends the truth. The credit for the failure of the attack is given tot he Menagerie Faunus and he and the kids just happened to be there. He also lies that Leo died fighting to protect the academy, which we all know is a big fat lie. Why did he lie about this? Heck if I know. This seems dumb, especially since if Ironwood finds out I imagine that his paranoia will only get worst. I guess it was to be safe for if the letter got intercepted since Qrow DOES say that thereâs more to the story, but still...
Anyways, Ruby is excited! We find out that the group is heading for a town called Argus, which is along the Northern coastline. They're going to be heading there via train... too bad that the Huntsmen that Mistral hired suck. But meh. Weiss is also a tad salty since she just got out of Atlus and went through a lot of effort to do so, and now she has to go back. Canât blame her, poor ice queen. But Ruby assures her that Team RWBY will be there for her. Speaking of, theyâre all waiting on Blake before they get going.
Blake is saying goodbye to Ilia, who now has some super cute civilian clothes. While Ilia helps the Belladonnaâs and Faunus improve relations in Mistral, Blake will be going with her team and therefore after the ones attacking the skills. Ilia is sad to see her go, but she now has a chance to start her life over and to make sure that the new Faunus movement doesnât end up like the White Fang. Sun also shows up to say goodbye, and he brought Neptune! Yay! Sun explains that eh and his team are going to Vacuo with Sun intending to learn to be a better leader for his team. He also tells Blake that she doesn't need him anymore. Sheâs sad when he outs it that way, but Sun elaborates that Blake NEEDS to be with her team and that sheâll now be fine with them. But who knows? They may run into each other again. Blake seems to accept that, even giving Sun an appreciative kiss on the cheek. Aww~ Ship it or not it was a super sweet scene between them and Iâm glad that it was there.
The train is soon on itâs way and we see Team RWBY chilling in their room. Which nice subtle callback tot he bunkbeds! Theyâre even structurally sound this time! When Yang goes to get her Scroll to kick Rubyâs butt at video games, Blake gets up to help her with her bang. Itâs pretty clear that Blakeâs still feeling guilty for what happened to Yang and probably for running away liek she did. Fortunately, Yang admits that, yes things are going to be weird, but itâll be okay.. Sheâs just glad that theyâre all together again. Itâs such a good moment. Not only is it pretty much telling us âyes weâll get to the emotional stuff with these two, but it will be okayâ, but it shows Yangâs development. Sheâs not snippy. Sheâs not angry. Sheâs honest, but also calm and is trying to accept Blake back. It would be so easy to milk this for all the melodrama that itâs worth, but theyâretaking a mature approach with it that doesn't damper the tone or Team RWBY being together again. Iâm very appreciative of that.
Sadly, the fun times canât last. A swarm of Grimm attack. God dang it Grimm,y ou ruined Qrow kicking his nieces butts at idea games! I was looking forward to that! But yeah, they go to face the Grimm as one of the two we saw earlier is knocked off and probably killed. The remaining one turns on the defenses, which includes turret guns. But since heâs at the front of the train, which is where the passengers are, itâs attracting the Grimm to them. Oscar, under Qrowâs orders, tries to make him stop, but he refuses. Which I canât completely blame him since its his job to kill them and these Manticore are clearly NOT easy to kill. But things go bad for him when Oscar sees a tunnel up ahead and while most everyone gets back inside, the poor Huntsman knocks into it and breaks his arm.. Seriously that moment made me cringe.
When inside, Qrow starts arguing with the Huntsman about the turrets. During this, Ruby looks around, seeing that the Grimm are following after them still. She also looks and sees the passengers, clearly scared. Knowing that they canât keep wasting time, RUby gets Qrow to back down as she and Jaune convince the Huntsman to turn off the guns, Jaune even using his aura amplification Semblance to heal the guyâs arm. Nora gets the idea of using Renâs emotion masking Semblance to mask the passengers, and then the Grimm would leave them alone. Renâs a little unsure of this, until the others point out that Jaune can use his Semblance to enhance Renâs. So fi thereâs still any doubt, yes Jauneâs power is to amplify aura, which in turn can enhance a Semblance. Our boy has become a true Paladin!
At this point, Oscar finally allows Ozpin to take over, who explains that part of the problem is the Relic. The Grimm are attracted to it. Even Qrow is surprised by this. Yang, clearly peeved, asks why he did this... though really guys? Is this really a surprise? You know that Salem is after it ad by now knows that you have it. So... while yeah Ozpin should have said something, is it really a shock that the Grimm are gonna come after it? Ozpin does get ready to explain himself, but Ruby interrupts. Right now it doesnât matter why. Right now what matters is protecting the innocents. This does give her a new plan though. While JNR stays with the passengers, the rest of them will disconnect the cars with the Grimm. That way, they can take care of them while the passengers are protected by Renâs Semblance and they can reach Argus safely. Jaune, while clearly not happy with it, agrees , but only when Ruby promises to meet them in Argus.Â
With that, Blake cuts off the cars. But not before seeing what seems to be a hallucination of Adam. Was it really him? Maybe. But no time for that as we have a fight still. With the cars disconnected, Ren and Jaune do their thing and indeed, the Grimm donât give chase. Which Iâm just gonna say it now, the fights in this episode are AWESOME. A BIG complaint about last year was the fight scenes especially during the Battle for Haven. While I thought the one on ones were fine, the group fights seemed to have problems as well as giving everyone focus. Well clearly CRWBY listened because this fight is AWESOME. Everyone gets a moment to shine, Oscar (who I assume took back control) has greatly improved, Team RWBY is perfectly in sync, the action is fast but creative, and it ends with Ruby and Qrow double teaming with some scythe action. It is SO GOOD GUYS. All while a new rocking tune sung by Jeff and Casey plays and man it is WAAY too early to want the soundtrack, but damn it I want it!
While the good guys win, the dying Grimm still causes damage to the rails. Weiss uses her gravity glyphs to keep everyone in place, but nevertheless the train is derailed and crashes. Fortunately, everyone is okay! Yay! This includes, to everyoneâs surprise, a goggled old woman who seems to have decided to stay instead of head for safety. This is Maria Cavadera, and with her pointing out how much of a close call that was, the chapter ends. Ho boy, is this gonna be fun!
Review
So I already wrote a review for the opening, so weâre gonna skip that other than me repeating that it is the best one so far and I want the V6 soundtrack like crazy.
So this premiere... HOLY SHIT. Just... HOLY SHIT. While I still think that the V5 premiere was the best one, this one may be a VERY close second if I can decide if I still liked the food fight in V2â˛s better than this or not. I kinda worry that maybe they set the bar a little TOO high and may not be able to keep it up since that seems to be how people felt about V5. But were only one chapter in, so Iâm not gonna worry about that right now. It set up a lot though very quickly without feeling rushed though, so thatâs good!
Okay, so for the most part this was mainly a setup/fight scene chapter but we have plenty to talk about. Lets get to Blake and Yang first. So I had a LOT of issues with Blake during V4. I did NOT like how she was written there and only furthering hr problems. Now V5 fixed pretty much all of that, and this chapter sealed it. Her goodbyes to Ilia and Sun were so sweet and well done. Iâll miss them, but itâs like SUn said, Blake needs to be with her team. Itâs also good to see that sheâs still guilty about Yang and not quite sure how to act around her other than trying to help her. Fortunately Yang seems to have taken what Weiss said last volume to heart and is trying to give her a chance. As I said, Iâm glad that weâre taking a mature approach to this and not going all melodramatic. Its gonna be weird for a little while, but itâs gonna be okay. Very happy with how things have started so far.
Thereâs not too much with the other characters aside from Oscar, but I want to talk about Ruby too. With Oscar, while itâs brief, he is clearly not okay with Ozpin taking control again. After what happened in V5, while Oz forcibly taking over was understandable due to Hazel being scary as Hell, thatâs... not gonna help Oscar feel any better about his situation. Poor kid is trying so hard and we do see that heâs improved as a fighter. Heâs not exactly a hard hitter, but he does good as a supporter. But going off this and the trailer... yeah I think that Oscarâs gonna feel like his control is slipping mroe and more as he and Ozpinâs souls become one. Poor boy...
With Ruby, my biggest problem last volume, like the only one I can say made me upset, was how badly she was handled. She was more or less a background character, received little to no development, her training arc was reduced to her learning how to give a headbutt, and worst there were PLENTY of character development moments available but NONE OF THEM were taken. I guess the focus was on Yang, Raven, and the Menagerie stuff but it REALLY upset me. My biggest hope has been that this volume will rectify that. While itâs brief, seeing Rubyâs clear concern for the passengers, taking the lead with both the plans and the fight coordination, and the hints int he opening with her eyes has given me a LOT of hope that that character development is finally coming. She actually felt like the cheerful but determined leader that sheâs supposed to be, not the happy plucky anime girl thatâs there for morale support like last time. Ruby is my favorite character, hence why Iâm so passionate about this, so hopefully my prayers have been answered and my girl is getting the plot that she deserves.
Really, this whole chapter felt like one big showcase of proving the critics that yes, they listened and yes, they will be trying to improve. Lack of fights? Weâre gonna start off with one big one. The fights are not good when itâs more than two characters? Not this time! Lack of new songs? Well you just got a badass Jeff and Casey duet! Lack of focus? Well the plotlines aren't split anymore, so here is where the focus is gonna be and who weâre going to mainly follow this volume! Seriously, aside from the brief cut to Adam, itâs clear where the plotâs focus is: with Team RWBY as they head for Argus. The split plots was fun, but it clearly caused a lot of problems with pacing and where the main focus was supposed to me. Now that the band is back together, thatâs no longer an issue and it made the pacing feel SO MUCH BETTER because of it. Iâm sure that were gonna have some subplots with other characters, but itâs clear that the main attraction is Team RWBYâs journey together, which I think will help keep things better rounded out.
I guess the final thing to talk about is the animation. Every year, CRWBY ramps it up and this year is no exception. The snow effects are beautiful,t he landscapes themselves look amazing, the character animation is energetic and expressive, and it just looks so good on screen. Itâ crazy. I was rewatching V1 a few days ago and while still impressive considering the low budget back then... aside form Montyâs fights, it.... looks cheap and flat. Remember, they had to use shadow people and not actual character designs if they weren't important back then folks. I think that the switch to Maya and now having had over two years of experience with it has REALLY done wonders for the animation team. Everything looked great here, especially with the fight being fast but incredibly creative and fluid. Like if this was just Chapter One, I can't wait for what the other thirteen look like!
Final Thoughts
When Volume 5 ended, I was so done with the drama and negativity that I saw about it that I very nearly quit the show. I guess putting my attention on RvB up until now helped me feel better about it because by the time the premiere came, I was actually feeling excited about the show coming back. This chapter reminded me so much of why I love RWBY. Great animation, amazing music, likeable and fun characters, and a tam of people who love and care for this property. This chapter brought me so much excitement and happiness that I had missed with this show. I am legit excited (and terrified) for the rest of the volume no matter what happens. Welcome back RWBY! Itâs gonna be one Hell fo a volume!

For the first time in a while Iris actually has a plot that is not brought up and fixed in the same episode. Iris is going to have to deal with Nora's pref for Bary for multiple episodes. I take that as a win. She doesn't need to constantly have scenes with Nora to do that. It's probably why she doesn't.
Fingers crossed it works out that way. If the journalism is a slowburn thatâs consistent even if it doesnât take up a lot of space in the episodes, and if Iris and Nora have quality scenes that delve into Irisâ insecurities about motherhood, then thatâs perfect for me!
Iâm surprised! So much of the released news involved the WA family that I, a WA/Iris, fan wondered if we were going to hear more about other characters: Iris will wonder if she was a good mother, dealing with the tension with Nora, Using journalism for team, her blog will become Central City Citizen (probably by end of season), Barry/Iris will deal with being parents coming before being B/I, thereâs an actual ep called NewsFlash, possible a recurring newsrival for Iris. I mean, tough crowd
We know Ralph and Sherloque will be one-upping each other in their investigations as R becomes a real PI once more, Caitlin will be looking for Killer Frost and learning about her father, and Joe/Cecile will be balancing their careers with their new baby. For me itâs really Cisco who seems to be suffering story-wise, as all we know is heâs getting over his heartbreak.
I hope that Newsflash is a big Iris episode, but if so then Candice seriously downplayed it lol. Which itâs possible she did!
Tbh, my mood for the season is up and down as it was last year before the season premiered. Neutral before comic con, excited post-comic con, meh by mid-September after hearing a mixed bag of things I might like and things I donât, and then I inevitably get excited like in the week leading up to the premiere. I think people should feel how they feel, and are totally allowed to be frustrated, especially re Irisâ journalism, b/c Ralph seems like heâs getting a proper PI arc, which ughhhh. (½)Imo, itâs hard to manage expectations, and I donât expect Iris fans to be positive, just as other Iris fans are allowed to be excited. Iâm a moody person, lmao, so I know how I am, but I do think that The Flash has dropped the ball on both female relationships and Irisâ journalism, and I know eventually Nora/Iris will be strong, but I feel like theyâre dragging the conflict out so that they can flesh out Barry/Nora on its own, which is irksome. BUT, Iâll personally probably be excited soon (2/2)
Yup. Being in fandom makes a lot of us excitable and easily swayed by anything we learn, regardless of context. As long as weâre not controlling each otherâs emotions and not attacking each other (or anyone else), then live and let live. Iâm sure Iâll be excited again the next time a trailer comes out.
I sent an ask earlier about not understanding some of the reactions, and just wanted 2b clear it wasnât against you or anything. I think the hope for the best but keep your expectations way in check is a reasonable approach.
No worries!
I like what Iâve been hearing, but if I had one complaint, I wish theyâd keep things a little more mysterious in the way they promote, both actors/showrunner and trailers. They just tell us that Iris blog will become the CCZ, they just announce with casting not just who Thomas is, but that CSâ dad is alive, the trailer has Barry straight up asking what happened to him in the future. lmao. Keep the mystery and intrigue. Donât just tell us, keep us guessing
They could stand to be a little more discreet, couldnât they? Iâm with you on that.

It's been almost a month since my last post, and I would say it has been both eventful and not. Another sister has left home, and now I am with more responsibilties. Heavier ones. I am now feeding and somehow babysitting our pet dog, who is a a very old one and can be a little clingy and stubborn at times. I'd start my day letting him out of his room for him to go pee or poo. Then, babysit for the rest of the day, making sure he does not do any mess. But if he does, I am there to clean it up. At 6, I start chopping up and boiling veggies for his dinner. At 8, I feed him. Then, another round of babysitting, until around 9 or 10, when I try to trick to get to his room to sleep. A slice of bread usually does the trick. But sometimes, I'd hear him scratch the door, and I feel guilty. But I know, he has to learn when it's time to sleep and when to stop eating. I didn't get him when he was a puppy, but somehow, I'll end up taking care of him until the end of his time.
I've mostly been stressed the past month, with work and house matters, that I didn't really feel lonely, or didn't really seek (much) companionship online. I barely talked to anyone. During my free time, I would spend it to read or on the treadmill while watching a show. That's another new thing - I've bought a treadmill. I'm getting some exercise, but I feel like I haven't really reached my full potential yet - I'm still brisk walking, for the past three weeks! But I think there's been an improvement with my stamina, like I'd usually get tired easily after a walk (ex. from carpark to the office), but nowadays, it's just alright. I've also felt that there's a difference when it comes to my habits. One is that I now would usually walk while I watch... when I watch sitting down, I somehow feel guilty. Like I've made some silly, silent rule to myself that I'll only get to watch Netflix, if I were on the treadmill. Of course, I don't get to follow it all the time... but I would say, I have now lessen my screen time because of that rule, and it definitely made me feel how wrong it is to sit for several hours doing nothing but watch shows. Damn, I've done that for yeaaars. I wish I had gotten a treadmill much sooner. Besides getting a treadmill, I've also gotten a new Kobo Libra 2 and a library card at Queens Public Library, the latter probably more life-changing. I'm quite glad that I'm still in a reading mood. I keep going even when encountering a bad book (ahem, Nora freakin' Roberts). I mostly bought the Libra 2 for the sole purpose of using the Overdrive function, haha, and to be able to read graphic novels/manga. So far, I've read one manga, called Assassination Classroom, which was just so weird. Not my cup of tea, but I kept going until I finished it. Hopefully, the next one would be better.
I've read 3 books since Educated, and they were okay. I feel like I'm now on downward slope after reading one good/great book after another. Hopefully, I get my hands on good ones again though.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid - definitely a page-turner and somehow I didn't expect the queer love. Probably not a popular opinion, but I felt like it was overhyped. Good plot and story overall, but the writing kind of fell short vs other writers I like.
Year One by Nora Roberts - good premise, but again, the writing was meh. It got dragging/boring at some points that I just wanted to skip over some pages (but didn't). Finishing this one was a struggle, and this author is definitely not for me. I tried another one of her books, The Awakening, but I just can't finish it at all. She's not for me.
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab - this one, I loved. The story was quite unusual, never read anything like it before. It's interesting how art was incorporated well within the book. I loved that it has short chapters and was just easy to read overall. The writing was amazing, too. I'd give it 4.5 out of 5 just because I've predicted some of the parts of the book. I'm just glad I got this book while going through the NR book, because damn, this saved me. I wouldn't want to go back to reading funk again.
It's June, and I don't really have much expectations. I'm pretty sure the workload is still the same, and there will still be stress. I guess, the only expectation is for me to get used to the new set-up, or more responsibilities I have. I think I now have much clearer picture of what weekends would be like for me. Chores, chores, chores, and when I get a free time - I'll use it wisely!

Last Minute Toonami Night Review: A Black Clover for the Holidays.
Itâs December, and you know what that means! Itâs the Holiday season, full of cheer and good tidings. Unfortunately, it also means a busy work schedule for me, as well spending most of my time studying for finals as well! Hence why itâs taken me this long to getting around to doing this review for last weekâs run of Toonami. But as much I would like to rant about how stressful this week has been, I want to get this done before tonightâs run of Toonami starts, so onto the review!
Last week was the premiere of Black Clover on Toonami, as well as the start of the new 5 and a half hour lineup! Before my first impressions of the new show, I want to talk about the new schedule, as well as another thing that may affect it soon. While it will take me a while to get use to the new start time of the lineup, Iâm still surprised by how much it has constantly changed and grown this past year. A year ago the run was 3 and a half hours, and now itâs 2 hours longer. If this keeps up, by next year, we might go back to the old 6 hour challenge!
However, despite the new extended schedule, it might be get short soon. Why? Because Lupin the Third Part IV is nearing the end of its run, with only five episodes left. So unless thereâs already another show soon to replace it, we might go back to being just 5 hours in the beginning of the new year. Kind of funny really. This year began with the lineup being extended 30 minutes, so to lose that same amount in the start of the next one would be pretty ironic.
Anyway, speaking of Lupin the Third, canât believe itâs almost over already! I know itâs been half a year since the show began in June, but it feels like it was less than that. Then again, this whole year feels like it went by faster than usual, but I digress. While Iâm saving my review for when it finishes its run, I will say that Lupin the Third has become one of my favorite shows on Toonami, so much so that I would argue that itâs one of the best shows to have aired on the block. But enough about that, time to go over the main topic of last week, Black Clover.
So my first impressions of Black Clover are kind of, well, meh. I mean, I can see where people are getting at in this show ripping off a lot from Naruto, and how they might be annoyed. But on the other hand, it makes me all the more interested to see where they take this. After all, some good anime often take a lot of ideas from others, but put a new spin to them.
In other words, if Black Clover doesnât do something different from the other shows, then itâs boring and generic. But if the show does brings something unique and new to the table, then it will fill the requirements of a good show in my book. So with that said, Iâll be watching the coming episodes to see what they do with that formula, and if they do something creative with it. Thatâs about it for last weekâs topics, now to end the review with the recap!
Dragon Ball Super: During the victory celebration, Beerus has to cover up his lie regarding Monaka from Goku. Fortunately for the destroyer, the upbeat Saiyan is pretty gullible. So after dressing up like Monaka and giving Goku quite a fight, Beerus was able to keep the truth hidden.
DBZ Kai: Buu becomes steaming mad when a mad gunman shoots his dog. Fortunately, Mr. Satan beats the crap out of the bastard, and finds out that the dog is still alive but barely. So with Buuâs reviving powers, the dog heals and is healthy and happy once more. Things seem to go back to normal, until the gunman comes back for revenge, and shoots Mr. Satan.
This once again enrages Buu once again, so much so that after healing Mr. Satan, tells him to take the dog and flee. As the two flee, the steam from Buuâs anger begins forming a cloud in the sky, which soon creates another Buu. Except only this time, this Buu is gray, skinny, and made of pure evil! But at least he does everyone a favor and blows up the gunman.
Black Clover: Weâre introduced to Asta, an energetic young man incapable of using magic in a magic dominated land. Weâre also introduced to his more composed friend Yuno, who has magic and is strong with it. So much so, that the day everyone got their grimoires, he got a special one with a four leaf clover on it. Asta, of course didnât get one. But despite this setback, that still doesnât stop him from wanting to become next wizard king.
Meanwhile, a two bullies try to take the four leaf clover grimoire from Yuno, but the latter easily deflects their attacks. Unfortunately heâs unable to deflect the more powerful spells casted by a rogue magic knight, that makes quick work of the bullies and chains up Yuno, in order to steal the special grimoire to make a profit on the black market. Fortunately Asta arrives to rescue Yuno, but is soon subdued easily by the former knight, who then breaks his spirit.
However, before the rogue knight can kill Asta, Yuno decides to motivate Asta by calling him his rival. Suddenly, Asta gets his fighting spirit again, as well something else. As Asta breaks free and ready to fight, a black grimoire with a five leaf clover appears before him, and he soon pulls a sword from it. Apparently Asta does have magic after all, black magic that is.
Stardust Crusaders: As the JoJo and the other continue their journey towards Egypt, with Enyaba as their prisoner, Old Joseph Joestar stops by a vendor to get some kebabs. Unfortunately, the vendor turns out to be Steely Dan (or Dan of Steel in the english dub), an agent of DIO that has been sent to silence Enyaba and eliminate the Joestars with his Stand, The Lovers!
Steely Dan succeeds in killing the old hag, despite being loyal to DIO in the end, and is now in the process of killing Old Joestar next! Fortunately, the old man has a plan and runs off with Polnareff and Kakyoin, while Jotaro stays behind to keep Steely Dan busy. Arriving at a TV shop, Old Joestar uses it as a way for Polnareff and Kakyoin to guide their now miniature Stands through his body, in order to fight the enemy Stand and the flesh bud within his head!
Meanwhile, with the old man held hostage, Steely Dan forces JoJo around like a slave. Unable to hurt the scumbag without hurting his grandpa in the process, JoJo bides his time until the others free Old Joestar. But with the clock ticking, can they make it in time to save the old man? And afterwards, will JoJo be able to beat the crap out of Steely Dan and his diabolical Stand?
Gundam IBO: The war between the S.A.U. and Arbrau finally comes to an end, but at a cost for our heroes. Thanks to the S.A.U., Orga and the others finally arrive on Earth, with Mika coming in with the Gundam Barbatos to break up the fight between McGillis, Takaki, and Aston. Unfortunately, Aston is killed in the process, devastating Takaki.
Meanwhile, Akihiro takes down Galan in his Gundam, but the latter self-destructs in order to erase the evidence linking him to Rustal. After the war, Tekkadan deals with the traitorous Radice, with Takaki being the one to gun him down. He then returns to his apartment, where his sister Fuka is waiting for him and Aston, and sadly tells her whatâs happened to their friend.
Hunter x Hunter: Gon wins the game on Greed Island, and gets his reward of three cards that can be used outside the game from the other creators of Greed Island. He also learns that his dad, Ging, is still a jerk thatâs trying to avoid him, but that doesnât stop him from trying to find him. And using his reward after saying goodbye to Biscuit, he and Killua immediately teleport to Ging. But as soon as they arrive, is the person at the tree the one Gon has been searching for?
Lupin the Third: Lupin steals an old Fiat 500 "Topolino" from a vintage cars' dealer, and Zenigata cannot arrest him because the car is extremely precious and could be damaged. However, it turns out that the dealer is involved in the theft, as itâs all part of a plan to raise the value of the car. The Fiat in fact belongs to an aged Italian singer, Nora Anita, who is now at the brink of death, and her former manager/husband has decided to sell anything that could make him remember her love when she'll be dead to avoid further suffering. Add in it being stolen by the an infamous thief, and naturally the old car becomes even more valuable.
Unfortunately Zenigata caught onto their plan, and it seems Lupin is heading for a trap. However, the car seems to have some sort of independent will, manages to get the thief away from the police, as well as âconvinceâ him to travel to a peaceful place on the banks of a lake, a place used by Nora and her husband as their private love refuge in their youth. Lupin happily obliges and drives there. As he does, Lupin leaves the radio on for Nora and her husband to hear, and the latter describes to his comatose wife the road the car is going through.
As the old man reminisce the memories he had with her and the car, he and Lupin begin to sing Noraâs most popular song as the sunsets, and their car arrives at their spot by the lake. As he weeps, the old man is about to get up and leave when suddenly his wife touches his hand, before dying happily. With Nora finally at peace, her husband sit by her side at peace as well, as the sun continues to set outside. As for Lupin, he leaves the car by the lake, much to Fujikoâs chagrin of wanting to make a fortune with it.
Naruto Shippuden: More flashbacks involving the early days of Team 7, this time involving Gaara and a lot of Sand ninjas.
Outlaw Star: Gene and Jim set up a business on Heifong, and the crew members take on various jobs around the city, which all come together in a confrontation with a mind-controlling cactus and its giant insect servants. Cowboy Bebop: The Bebop crew deal with a mutated alien that was once Spikeâs lobster dinner from a year ago. In short, the greatest lesson learned is to not leave food in a fridge for a long time.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG: While Section 9 investigates the âIndividual Elevenâ, they also prevent the Prime Minister from being killed by an assassin.
Whew, finally got this done, and in time too! 15 minutes before tonightâs run of Toonami starts! Should give me enough time to warm up some instant ramen and get ready. See you guys there!

What is the history of the trash court?
Ahem..Gather around children, because today Iâm going to tell you the story of my family. Aka, the Royal Trash Court. It all began at an orgy party. Yes. Itâs exactly what I said it was. Basically, his royal highness, the Trash Prince⢠held a debutante in his quest to find a wife. The perfect woman whom was capable of as much trash as he, and there, at that orgy party, he found my mother Daphne.Â
Daphne was the only woman in the whole party that was on the same level of Trash as he, and so that night he made her his queen. Along the land, Daphne was known as The Trash Queenâ˘.Â
Along with the Trash Queen came her mother Emjee, The Empress. She taught the court everything they needed to know about smut by literally spelling it out for them. Her sister Meg, the Meme Queen also became part of the whole marriage thing..I think itâs called family. Anyways, Meg was the one who showed the court memes of course, and taught them all well, too well.Â
All was well in the castle, until the day the Meme Queen adopted two younger girls, Nora, and Danielle. It was decided by the Royal court that Nora would be the Marquis de Memes, and Danielle would be the Trash Princess Nora immediately followed after her mother and developed a love of memes. And Danielle developed a love for purple balls. No one knew why, and god knows what that child had been through to have been that in love with them.
After completing their list of places to have wild sex around the castle the Trash Prince and Trash Queen decided to spice it up a bit. Thatâs when Auntie Lisa came into the mix. But she wasnât exactly my aunt, thatâs just what you call sex slaves around hereâŚbut anyways she was named the Dowager Duchess of Trash.Â
Adding Auntie Lisa to the mix made the Meme Queen quite envious, so she got her own sex slave, whom she dated. Her name was Faye, or Lady Fae of Adelle. They hit it off, and I was sure that my aunt, the Meme Queen was finally happy with her. Until Lady Faye of Adelle introduced her to her secret adoptive daughter, Comptess Hannah. In rage for keeping Hannah a secret from her, The Meme Queen threw a piece of lumber at Faye and broke up with her. But my Mother, the Trash Queen thinks they still get it on, because Hannah and Lady Fae of Adelle are still welcome in the court. Meh..who knows. It's not like it's surprising.
And then a slip up occurred. A royal fuckup. The Trash Queen got pregnant. âWell shit..â the Trash Prince stated. And The Trash Queen shrugged her shoulders and drank some more wine. Then on a dark and stormy night under a blue moon, the Heir to the throne was born. Thatâs right bitches, it was me. Lanie, or Lady Sin.Â
As soon as I was born my father and mother changed their minds about me and decided that I was the best thing to ever exist under the holy name of Trash. I was pampered, and was given an expensive education, learning everything from memes, to smut writing, and even learning how to unleash my inner demon onto the souls of the innocent. Ahh, good times.Â
Then my younger sister Lucy was adopted. Given the title the Smut Princess by the royal court, she had a gift for finding the smuttiest of fics. Thatâs the reason my mother, the Trash Queen, decided to allow her to become apart of our family. Ugh. The Smut Princess and I do not get along. It is sibling rivalry that we have. But all in all, our family has always been united, strong, taking down multiple threats to our kingdom, such as our rivals the Royal Hoes. And that is why the Trash Courtâs reign shall live on.Â
However there was this one night that was quite odd. You see, now that us kids are all older, we were allowed to tend the Royal Orgy parties that my father the Trash Prince would throw. All was well, we were dancing, The Trash Queen was drinking, and Danielle was playing with her purple ball collection. But suddenly Madame Garderobeâs singing was interrupted by a large banging on the door. We all stopped and turned our attention to the door, which immediately swung open.Â
There in the doorway was the Smut Enchantress, IdonaeRose, seeking shelter from the bitter storm. As a gift, she offered the Trash Prince and Trash Queen a single bdsm fic. Intrigued by her offer, the Trash Prince and his Queen accepted the offer, dismissing the rest of us. Only god knows what became of them. But the night she had offered was truely an enchanted one, for she left in the morning, and was never seen again. This became known as the night of The Smut Enchantress.Â
So here we are now, present day. You know of our story, and your Royalty, so bow down. I know when your were little girls (or boys), you dreamt of being in my world..donât forget it..respect that. BOW BOW DOWN. (sorry the Trash Prince loves BeyonÄe so naturally Iâve grown up listening to her) As always, feel free to ask more questions, here is a family picture of us incase youâve gotten a bit lost. Until next time my peasants, Â Â
~Lady SinÂ
Okay so to sum it up, the Trash Court basically takes place in an Alternate Universe where the Enchantress didnât curse the Trash Prince. Â Â
- Lanie
