Evan grimaces and finishes tying off Tommy's splint. "Shoulder. And my hip's not feeling great. Cracked rib, maybe two. But of course you had to outdo me."

"There's nothing else?"

"My head hurts," Tommy admits, "but there's not much we can do for that right now."

Evan leans in to compare his pupils. Tommy is very proud of himself for not flinching. "Dispatch had our location?" Evan asks, and instead of reminding him that he was there when they confirmed it, Tommy nods.

He wins the next two games. Tommy blames his probable concussion.

MK1's Lin Kuei

Can we take a second to talk about how bad the Lin Kuei are at what they're doing in MK1? They're supposed to be this ancient clan of elite warriors with years worth of combat experience and knowledge and skills beyond anyone's comprehension... but they're actually so comedically terrible at their job.

I won't include the teahouse fight in this since it doesn't count because they had to hold back against Kung Lao and Raiden but everything happening from there just contradicts all that the story wants us to believe about the Lin Kuei.

Cage mansion fight

Both Sub-Zero and Scorpion get absolutely destroyed by Johnny (who doesn't even seem to have any special powers in the new era, unlike the old timeline's Johnny). Of course, one might argue that they had to still hold back here since Johnny wasn't an enemy, they were just trying to recruit him and Liu Kang was there too, but it only gets worse from here.

2. The Ying fortress

This is one of the most hilarious scenes in the story mode. "No, you two can't come with us although you effortlessly defeated the three of us before because it takes YEARS to master the art of stealth."

What stealth????

Fast forward to the Lin Kuei trying to get inside the Ying fortress. Surprisingly, they can't make it three steps until they're discovered by Nitara and one of them almost dies because he had to show off instead of climbing the wall efficiently and, most importantly, without raising unnecessary attention.

How did Smoke not consider that a guy floating in mid-air would be spotted from a mile away? You can almost pinpoint the moment his brothers realized it was a mistake to bring him with them.

Not that they're doing much better though. On their way in, the three trigger pretty much every single defense the fortress has to offer. Nitara, Ermac... the guards that show up later on.

In fact, this whole thing couldn't have gone any worse if they had brought a marching band along with them.

Next, we get to see Bi-Han and Kuai Liang sneaking up on Shang Tsung so close behind him I'm pretty sure their footsteps would have given them away. They're completely out in the open, Kuai Liang is not even watching his back. It's surprising they made it this far.

3. Capturing Shang Tsung

As we learn, their plan to capture Shang Tsung is, in fact, nonexistent.

I don't know where their experience and years worth of training suddenly went in that moment, but this scene of them just... jumping out of their hiding spot and running at their enemies full speed with no real strategy behind it was so ridiculous and disappointing to me. It just feels rushed and unprofessional and of course, this not at all thought through maneuver triggers the guards to show up and intervene.

It's such an amateur mistake it makes you wonder why Liu Kang trusted them with this task in the first place.

Somehow, the brothers then get overwhelmed and end up captured themselves. The story really wants us to believe the two of them combined couldn't take on a few guards, but later on Scorpion is able to defeat them alone using the power of plot armor.

While Bi-Han had at least some significant wins against Nitara, Ermac, Quan Chi and Shang Tsung, the story of course forced him to lose in the end, Kuai Liang's losing streak for some reason magically ended the second he left the Lin Kuei and Smoke??? He got to beat up an old lady in a staged fight.

It's sad to see how little the writers care about the Lin Kuei, even with the franchise's most iconic characters both being Lin Kuei in the new era. I will never not be upset about the potential that went to waste here. Smoke didn't even get to be in a single fight, we saw nothing of Bi-Han's strategical genius and cunning and the rest of the Lin Kuei only showed up for the staged teahouse fight. They all deserved so much better.

On a high of boredom and internet envy (a.k.a, seeing tons of pics of hot ppl with snake bite piercings) you began to prepare needles to give yourself some dope piercings. After expertly pushing the needles through both ends of your bottom lip you were reminded of your 'bi-weekly mandatory art and cuddle couple bonding date' (Mikey's name for it). You couldn't just take the needles out so after some thought you just decided, screw it, it's not like I'm bleeding. It hurt a little though.

After slipping under the man hole cover and navigating the nasty sewer you made it to the lair. Voicing a quick hello to Splinter as you passed through he living room he met you with a swift wave, still thoroughly invested in his l show.

Making your way to Mikey's room you speak a quick 'knock knock' to get his attention, seeing as you couldn't really knock on a curtain. As the turtle of the hour excitedly pushed open the curtain he was more than a little surprised upon seeing you.

After carefully going through the instructions you finally got your long awaited tongue piercing! However Donnie didn't think you had started to pierce your tongue and saw you with a needle halfway through your tongue before looking away and gaging, which you couldn't help but laugh at. That was until Donnie told you to stop before you hurt yourself. Overall, he did make the whole experience, so much better.

Honestly at this point I genuinely believe that Anthony has an enormous crush on Frank. I think Frank also likes him but not necessarily as much as Anthony likes him.

The Warp Effect Ep 8 Stray Thoughts

The Week of Jojo Part 2 begins. Last week, Army agreed to be the sperm donor for Nim, Mollie and Nim had a good moment during the training for the film that totally left Bew jealous, See-ew stepped out on Liu and ended up arrested for making porn, Liu broke up with See-ew in a scene that was fantastic between Sing and Clize, and Captain beat the shit out of Kat for not wanting to be his partner.

I'm glad we're staring with Kat. What happened to her was upsetting, and I wanted to check on her first.

It's interesting how Kat displays a wide array of feelings here, but annoyance, irritation, and offense come through most strongly.

All of Kat's girls came to check on her, but she doesn't want to be a victim. She is totally right to be frustrated that she was attacked after making her boundaries clear.

So now she'll flirt with Jean (who is apparently bi!) as a tease? I need this to become more than teasing!

I like Jean. Just because something bad happened to Kat doesn't mean she's gonna let Alex back in.

Army is lovesick, and also frustrated that Joe won't switch. So glad we're having frank conversation about the relationship dynamics in gay relationships about sex. Army is right that bottoming is tiring, and doing it all the time is exhausting. I'm curious how they'll explore Joe's reticence about the act. Just don't turn this into Cucumber, because I'll never forgive Russel T. Davies for that.

Alex is the straight guy determined to get his gay friend laid. We've come such a long way.

Cutting between Kim and Nim about the pregnancy tests was a neat touch. Kim's is unexpected, and I don't think Nim is pregnant yet.

I kinda like this plot with Bew. Lesbians can have poorly planned pregnancies, too. Bew may be jealous about Mollie, but the callous attitude about the baby is concerning.

Joe needs to do things away from this school more often, and everyone else needs to stop trying to make Joe talk about gay shit in the locker room of the school he works at.

Ah, Joe is a side. I appreciate that he doesn't like anal sex; I don't think it's required. I also don't like the bar and club scene. I just worry about the self-fulfilling nature of Joe's sense that he doesn't belong anywhere. You have to find your people.

Oh, this is an interesting way for this plot to develop. Jean, who I suspect has had an abortion, doesn't foist that choice upon him. Kim admits she's not ready to start a family, and doesn't believe Ice is either. Kim doesn't hide the pregnancy from Ice, and he immediately rallies to become a dad and parent with Kim, much to her chagrin.

Kat is tough in front of others, but I am not surprised she's nervous in parking garages now.

Gosh, almost every scene has a blue hue to it this week. It's like watching Eyewitness again.

Mmm, unsure how I feel about Kat opening herself up to more with Alex immediately after beginning recovery.

Alright, I do think it's important for us to talk about men's health and making sure they actually get it from professionals. However! Army knows Alex is not actually trained as a doctor right now, so what are the ethics here??

I really like the exploration of the sensual potential of outercourse with Army and Joe. With how much BL misrepresents the physical considerations of penetrative sex, this feels necessary.

Also, in terms of the narrative, I like that Army's problem is solved by reconciliation with the first boy he really hurt and reaching equilibrium with him.

This fictional scene of Rose and Liu enabling Kat to curb stomp Captain is making me think of I May Destroy You (2022). I'm feeling a deep surge of complex feelings. Of course, her girls are here to support her.

That's not a reason to get upset over it. I can understand that being a reason it's surprising, but having sex with someone or being curious about what it's like doesn't inherently mean sexual attraction. Equating being curious about sex or craving it with attraction is why it took me so long to figure out that I'm asexual (and this is one of my biggest issues with people who harass people who enjoy Alastor ships; I didn't even figure out I'm asexual until I started writing Radioapple fanfiction).

I don't have an issue with people being surprised that Millie's straight, because I understand why. What I do have an issue with is people completely ignoring that Millie is canonically straight. For example, I saw a post on Twitter saying Millie would still be attracted to Moxxie if he came out as trans, but that's not how sexual orientation or attraction works. Canonically, she would not be attracted to Moxxie if he came out as trans because 1, it would imply she still sees Moxxie as a man, which would completely go against how supportive she is of Sallie, and 2, she's not attracted to women. I'm transmasc and if I didn't come out to my spouse before we got married and they weren't attracted to men, I would 100% prefer being divorced.

I essentially made that post because I saw people upset about Millie being straight, and that person (and everyone who agreed with them) saying Millie would still be attracted to Moxxie if he came out as trans made me so fucking uncomfortable.

People getting upset over it also comes off as hypocritical. Why is ignoring a canon straight character's identity any different than ignoring a canon queer character's identity? If your answer is "they're straight and being straight is the default" then I need you to do some introspection on why you think it's okay to ignore a character's identity just because they're in the majority.

None of this is to say artists and fanfiction authors can't portray her as bisexual, but don't act like it's canon. Canonically, Millie's straight, she's only attracted to men.

*I also think it needs pointing out that some straight women still have sex with women. Same goes for men; some straight men have sex with other men. It doesn't make them any less straight, because you can have sex with someone without attraction existing. Also, the specific exchange in Spring Broken where Millie asks what sex with Verosika was like was this:

Millie: What was sex with her like? Moxxie: MILLIE! Millie: What? It's a popstar! You'd wanna know what sex with Michael Crawford was like!

And that exchange only happened because Moxxie, Millie, and Loona protested about Blitz claiming he doesn't pry into their personal lives, which very much makes it feel like she was both asking because Verosika is a celebrity and because Blitz does the same thing.

Heyo, anon who was thinking about writing a Murdock/mannequin fanfic and asked about crack fics. I have realized that the term "crack fic" probably doesn't really fit the premise; I guess I was thinking about "fic for a (kinda sorta) crack ship" and my brain short-circuited that into "crack fic" (oops). Your description of "strange subject matter written in a standard way" does fit my premise nicely, I guess it wouldn't really be a crack fic then. The episode that ship is from also shows later that he genuinely cared about the mannequin and is really upset when it gets broken irreversibly later, so this is more along the lines of Murdock genuinely having a thing for and a relationship/an affair with this mannequin rather than just joking about it, so yeah, the plan is: strange subject matter but non-crackish depiction.

As for the definition of crack fics: the ones I have come across have been a) "usual/standard premise but intentionally silly/wacky (humourous) writing intended to be read as silly as if one had to be on crack to write it and to take it seriously" b) "strange/silly premise and intentionally silly/wacky (humourous) writing intended to be read accordingly as if one had to be on crack to think of the mere premise of the fanfic" c) "strange/silly premise and dead-serious writing as if the plot were the most standard and regular fanfic premise to ever premise plottily," so to say.

My personal definition would probably fall somewhere between a) and b), although I'd love to find more cases of c), as that sounds the most fun to read to me. Have also come across crack fics by middle/high-school students, and by that I mean people who wrote in their author's note stuff like "lolllz i wrote this during lunch break at school with a couple of friends and they dared me to post it so here you go lmaooo" (this is paraphrasing of course, but I have stumbled across multiple crack fics that have author notes like this).

Btw have decided to give it a go, so I'd like to thank you for helping me reach that decision! I was unsure whether this idea would be too silly to write, but then remembered that no amount of silliness can stop me from making fictitious people and fictitious mannequins smooch, ha! (Also am going to look for that Care Bears fanfic, that sounds like fun, so thank you for the recommendation.)

Another btw: I am no longer thinking that Murdock's potential depiction of potential interest in guys is just a joke... Have just seen "There goes the neighbourhood" (4x10), and pretty close to the beginning, they're deciding to leave with a client and her friend/boss is staying in the room, so they're saying their goodbyes and then exiting the room, and Murdock is the last to leave, and he says, "Such a pleasure meeting you, let's do lunch!" and puts on his hat and charmingly smiles at the guy, and then the camera is on the guy who does look interested. I am deciding to categorize this interaction as "not-subtle-at-all flirty encounter," and now firmly believe that either the character was written/directed as bi/pan or bi-curious (considering how much cheek-in-tongue innuendo and humour the show has, I wouldn't be that surprised if they'd decided to subtly and not-subtly get a non-straight character past homophobic film/TV censorship of the 80s) or the actor decided to portray him as interested in guys without the studio/director/whoever-decides-stuff knowing or approving, heheh. (Or the actor just felt like flirting with or hungrily staring at handsome guys, which I also respect lol.) Let's just ignore that I gravitate toward rarepairs and that that probably means I tend to interpret stuff as romantic/sexual interest innuendo that's not actually meant/written to be interpreted as such and that most other people don't bat an eye at, and that that probably means my interpretation is total bullshit, ahem. Could you expand on the part about Jean vs Neil's sexuality? I assume you meant how it's portrayed in the book, I never made any comparison, so I'd be interested in hearing about it. But it could be applied to fans too. I've not seen anyone try to say Jean can't be bi or is bi because of his abuse, like people do with Neil and his asexuality. While infuriating, it's sadly not surprising. Nobody ever did it with Andrew either. Just Neil.

yes i meant that there's an obvious difference between how neil, being demi, perceives andrew throughout the aftg books and how jean, being bi, reacts to jeremy and many other hot people he encounters. it's interesting you say you never made any comparison bc for me it's impossible not to compare and see the differences. back in 2020 when i joined this fandom, it was a huge thing for me to discover that certain fanon spins on andreil aren't irksome just bc they're ooc - they're upsetting bc they erase the way nora depicted aspec attraction in a media landscape where aspec rep is still difficult to come by and aspec relationships especially so. learning that these things have names and constitute queer identities was a revelation and made me a very analytical romance reader - and a very frustrated one too bc now that i know that complex romance stories featuring people like me can be written i have little patience for characters being instantly attracted to each other for seemingly no reason.

have a mixed effect on me. on the one hand, i recognize that this is true to the experience of allo people and admire nora for no doubt intentionally writing neil's and jean's sexualities in such a different way. both of them end up in mm relationships altho neither of them is gay - which i think adds nuance to the yaoi lol. on the other hand, to me, a relationship that features writing like this is just inherently less interesting. like, this is literally just my subjective preference but it did factor into why i didn't like tsc as much as aftg.

the things you bring up about certain fans' double standards when it comes to the potential influence of abuse on one's sexuality are very true. nobody ever claimed andrew is gay bc of the abuse he suffered and i don't think people would use this argument with jean, altho biphobia and bi erasure are definitely a thing in many fandoms. interestingly, the scene i cited above adds another layer to this conversation: so the logic of aspec neil deniers was (wishfully using the past tense here) that you can basically bully a person into being aspec and that's why neil isn't really demi, he's just repressed etc etc. but in jean's reaction to jeremy's looks and in his internal monologue throughout the book whenever he finds someone attractive we see that he doesn't welcome these feelings. he's thinking: i'm attracted to him but i've been hurt before and so i don't want to feel this way - it will only lead to problems and more hurt. now, were it true that one can be bullied into perceiving hot people around with the same kind of disinterest as neil, the many instances of sex-related physical and psychological abuse jean has been through would have doubtlessly gotten him there. instead, he's still very much bi and traumatized.

okay the wait is over I finally have a minute to sit down and type all this out. well I'm not gonna give That much detail bc I don’t feel like it. but essentially I talked to sarah suitemate for like 30-45 minutes last night in the kitchen. we just chatted for a sec and she mentioned that bi guy 2 said she should stop saying "I'm gonna kill myself" but then she asked me if I had talked to the bi guys at all recently. and I was like "no.....? I thought they would have told you about it" and she said "well they've told me a little bit but whenever they start talking about you I get the to stop because I don't wanna hear them talk about you like that. because I'm still always gonna be on your side" which. she seemed really sincere but I believe it when I see it. so I was like "thanks but yeah me and bi guy 2 had a friendship breakup" and she was pretty surprised by that I think. she said she didn't know it was that bad. and because I had nothing to lose and I don’t care if she runs of and tells them anything I told her all about it.

and mostly she listened but there were also a couple of interesting things she told me. like how apparently bi guy 2 has brought up his concerns about what I eat and how I "only eat carbs" to sarah suitemate Multiple times which like. she and I both know is insane. also he sees me once a week and just because I ate pasta every tuesday when he was over I "only eat carbs" you don't know fucking anything. anyways. she said that they forgot her birthday and that she's noticed they're pretty selfish and don't really ever ask her about herself. and that they say that she "saved their lives" and that she was always there for them and she's like "dude I was just in the lounge at the right time idk..." she said they're not as close as I thought and that she really doesn't wanna be close with them because of all the aforementioned things and that they want to hang out with her All The Time but she just doesn't. she also said that during the shut up incident when she snapped at me she didn't do it because "[she] hates [me] or something" but because bi guy 2 was getting upset. and she drove them home that night and apparently he cried the whole way there? didn't realize it was that bad. apparently bi guy jason and his gf broke up (shocker) and sarah said that he said that he was just going to never talk to her again so it makes sense that he would just cut all ties with me but she doesn't understand how he could just keep doing that to people he "loves"

I saw some comments from people saying its not explicit that she's bisexual or that clearly her husband is a beard and she got a sad closeted ending. I was confused about these comments tbh, I believe that it's clearly implied she's bi because of this page:

Her husband mentions being jealous of both men and women. And then he basically says "she chose a person, not a gender" which is LITERALLY the message bi people have been trying to get other people to understand forever! Even the comment about her "not belonging to either side" is something any bi person can relate to.

Also he's talking with Touma here, and asks him if he "gets it" regarding being jealous of men and women, and Touma responds in the affirmative("Really? You too?") because he's also married to a bi person(Taichi). Just a tiny thing that only makes sense when you learn that Touma is the POV character lol

It's unfortunately a common trope in Japan that sapphic relationships among young girls are not taken seriously and are treated as just a silly playful phase they go through and eventually grow out of. When I saw Masumi ended with a man, I winced, bracing myself for this scenario. However, her husband clearly acknowledges her attraction to women and her bisexuality by saying she didn't "choose a side", she chose him. It's rare to see such a clear messaging of bisexuality in manga, so this dialogue was honestly a very pleasant surprise to me.

Now the negative. I was happy about this sure, but it was also a bit awkward and hard to accept this happening in the very last chapter when for the entirety of the series, Masumi was coded as a lesbian. In real life no one would bat an eye at Masumi, someone who identifies as lesbian and previously only liked women could discover later she's actually bisexual and anyone who judged her for that would be an idiot, same thing if it was the opposite. But this is fiction, and what you portray and HOW you portray it matters.

One of the main evidences of her lesbian coding is that all her relationships with boys in high school fail, even though they're "perfect boyfriends". I guess you could interpret this as, obviously she couldn't force herself to like these boys regardless of gender while she was still in love with Futaba, but that's me making sense of it retroactively, the story doesn't make it clear and "lets you believe" she's a lesbian, because why wouldn't you, that's a pretty common way of coding it.

Another thing is Masumi's conversation with Akiko, where Masumi reveals that her internal struggles come from the fact that she wants to fit in heteronormative society because things would be easier that way. Her happiness comes from the people she loves being happy and not worried about her, which they would be if she "went against" society. So seeing her end up with a man can be uncomfortable as it can be seen as her making the choice to fit in with society.

SO YEAH I have conflicting feelings about this, I thint it definitely could have been handled better. I think the ending was very clear about her being bisexual and I like that, but there's also definitely a conversation to be had about lesbian erasure regarding how her arc was handled, and I understand the feelings of those who were upset and frustrated by it.

That said, I could maybe see it platonically! She'd definitely use him as a bodyguard for sure.. Again, sorry if I put a damper!! I don't mean to diss you or anything!

Otherwise I agree about Nagito needing to see the ultimates as people and that I too don't jive with Kokichi.

[From this ask] I want to preface this by saying please don't ever worry about dissing me or upsetting me if our interpretations are diametrically opposed! I am not precious about pairings or headcanons or the like in the least, super chill 👍 I'm always down for hearing other's interpretations! Is it canon-compliant? Is it complete crack? Familial? Romantic? Platonic? Hell, you could walk into my home and state "Actually I think Taka and Mondo's relationship is doomed to end in misery" and I'd say "Ah! Do tell! how does that come about? but also how'd you find my address?"

If nothing else, platonically or romantically, Celeste and Gonta would have a really compelling dynamic to explore - the real noble raised as a complete unknown looking to rediscover his heritage, and the fake noble clinging to her dream of ascending to aristocracy, juicy!

Kokichi is a menace, and I'll have none of his fancy jiving footwork in this house.

@ididnahthither Personally no. However! I've seen some nice variations of Kirumi, Mukuro and Sakura with Taka, I think matching the girls' sensible and dedicated natures with his own - and a lot of pairings with Celeste! Often with Celeste initially pursuing Taka based on how he fits into her desired aesthetic, feelings developing later, and I'll admit- they do have the spooky goth couple look down. I think the one that surprised me with how well it could work was Leon with Taka. Leon's volatility being shown as more performative, and in fact he uses his social fluency to hide his nervous need to be liked - it creates a compelling dynamic with Taka who cannot read a room to save his life, and wears his heart on his sleeve.

That is actually kind of adorable

Given Leon's over the top, dramatic personae - calling Makoto, as someone who totally understands him, his 'soulmate' fits well into his all or nothing style. No half measures with Leon Kuwata.

He kind of reminds me a lot of Klavier Gavin from Ace Attorney, although not a suave - they're both very outwardly loud and flashy; both drawn to the spectacle of being a rockstar, but are internally much softer and in need of reassurance from those around them than you might have thought.

fem!mondo and fem!taka are a blast to mess around with!

It'd be really interesting to see how someone goes about developing their relationship as women- A huge part of how Mondo presents and interacts with others is how he's tied his identity as a man to his reputation; his strength and pride as the leader of the Diamonds, and this is what has boiled over into his toxic masculinity. Approaching Mondo's crises and dated view of gender expectation from the lens of Mondo as feminine rather than masculine would be fascinating

@yaysof11037 [the pride comic!] In my main non-despair au I've got Mondo in my head as Bisexual, although takes his sweet time recognising his attraction to men as more than just 'admiration'. The pride comic however doesn't take place in that au, so although at first I was gonna have him with the Bi flag, I thought it might be more in line with the spirit of the comic if I left it open; so people could imagine what flag they wanted instead :) (lol I did actually mention it in the tags, but it's easily overlooked XD)

In my mind, I tend to see Takemichi as having a platonic found family style relationship with the Oowadas, basically like their 3rd unofficial brother- Mondo still being the youngest, but Takemichi as a sort of moderating, long suffering, middle sibling. I've mentioned in [here] (in the asks after the readmore) that I don't have anyone specific that I pair Daiya with. In my little non-despair au, he's somewhat of a permanent bachelor, and has only really had casual relationships previously.

I'll admit that Daiya and Michi isn't one I've seen before! Takemichi does have the briefest hint that he might not be traditionally heterosexual, so him nursing a crush on Daiya wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility. However, perhaps it's because we're introduced to Daiya through the lens of his little brother Mondo, I have to say that personally I can only really see Daiya as a sort of pseudo brother figure to the members of his gang.

Daiyakure is a pretty popular pairing, and it was a bit of a surprise to me when I first saw it! And whilst it's true they never meet in the games, I think people like to explore the sort of loose and wild dynamic they could have, and since there isn't an established interaction people can go crazy with it!

I definitely remember something about being surprised that said I wasn't too into romance in [this ask] (which I also linked above ^) I think the rest was about being jazzed for Hina/Taka interactions, perhaps from the [pride] comic?

yeah, that's very fair XD I was thinking in the grand scheme of all the shows I like, and found that there are very few canonical romantic pairings that I'm invested in, and the number of headcanon ones I have, I could count on one hand.

It's worth mentioning here that the only pairing I really personally ship in Dangan is Taka with Mondo. However! I'm happy to talk about any pairings as well as ones where Taka and Mondo aren't together, zero issue there! My brain just doesn't really connect the dots of any others without prompting. My internal relationship needle mostly points to platonic like a true North, unless I see something that catches my eye and it knocks it off course XD

Taka and Hina share so much boundless passionate energy, and a certain naivete - I love to see them form a close alliance!

This ask was asking since I drew Kaito and Maki as adopted siblings in the previously linked ask dump ^ and [this one], the query was something like 'Since you drew them as siblings I assume you don't ship Kaito and Maki?'

In the original ask someone said that they saw Kaito as Mondo and Taka's kid- but I thought out of the cast of V3 Maki was a better fit than Kaito, so for that one ask, I put them as adopted siblings! In my own opinion however, Kaito fits better as Hiro's son, and upon further reflection I think Maki suits Fuyuhiko and Pekoyama best! Which of course would definitely make them not siblings.

In terms of their actual dynamic in the game, Maki's slowly defrosting nature and subsequent unyielding loyalty toward Kaito seems to be implied to being equivalent to a blooming crush. Whereas Kaito's own notion of romance is more oblique. Is it requited? Unrequited? The game'll never tell! To my mind, I don't pair them romantically- rather I lean toward Maki perhaps having an initial unreturned crush on an oblivious Kaito, but what forms instead is a strong friendship.

This ask was something like 'what do you think of saimota?' I don't remember if there was anything more to it.

I can't quite get a bead on Shuichi as a character - he's mostly reactionary, with those around him being the instigating force on how he choses to act. He seems starved of friendship because of his quiet and nervous nature so a warm, energetic presence like Kaito or Kaede certainly has him come out of his shell (literally). Shuichi and Maki have some similar traits, as well as sharing their heroic adoration of Kaito. The game seems to point toward Maki's interest as romantic so it wouldn't be disingenuous to suggest that Shuichi's might be too.

Hello my friends! We are still walking over the last Destiel breakup. I'm gonna talk in this meta about how they miss each other even when they're mad at each other. Because they're two dumbasses in love.

Come Back Home

Previous episode we saw a visual reference that linked Dean with a fish. Now in episode 15x06 we have Castiel trying to catch a (hard) fish and walking around a fishing ship, mentioning Dean to let us know, the symbolism about that sneaking fish. Castiel misses him.

Another important visual element in this episode was the lady reading a book that pictures the Destiel breakup we are witnessing and writers are making it one of the centric topics.

I'm talking about the Destiel color coded lady, with a hint of pink (happiness)...

...reading a novel titled: "Lovers Quarrel".

An now, let's talk about the awkward Destiel phonecall.

Let me tell you that Dean didn't have to ask to talk with Castiel when he was speaking with the sheriff, but he did it anyway. Why? Because he missed Castiel.

Even so, he won't recognize it. Because he is still mad, and Castiel is still mad, then why is Dean asking for him?

Because he needed to scold him about not answering Sam's messages. Because Sam is messaging him, but Dean is not.

And then...

Look at this:

DEAN: Would you put my agent on the phone, please?

He can't lose the opportunity to talk with Cas.

SHERIFF ROY [handing the phone to Cas]: He wants to talk to you.

CASTIEL: Hello?

He wasn't happy about it, at all. As a parallel with that phonecall in season 14, in which Castiel said it was good to hear Dean's voice, this time it isn't.

DEAN: Cas. Sam's been trying to call you.

CASTIEL: I know.

DEAN: Did you check his messages?

CASTIEL: Nope.

Dean is behaving very childish here, and Castiel isn't checking the Winchester's messages, because he really wanted to move on from them, from Dean.

DEAN: Right. Smart. Why would you? Look, I don't know if you care or not, but, uh... God... Chuck... is back on the board, so watch yourself. And check your damn messages.

After this, Dean suddenly cut the call, and Castiel looks very upset about that. But thing about these words Dean told him has a hidden message:

And then... "Chuck is back in the game." Is the same as if Dean wanted to say HEY CAS YOU LEFT BECAUSE CHUCK WAS GONE, WELL, HE IS BACK, SO... YOU HAVE TO COME BACK BECAUSE CHUCK IS BACK. NOT BECAUSE I'M MISSING YOU SO MUCH AND I'M SO DEPRESSED SINCE YOU LEFT, BUT BECAUSE CHUCK IS BACK.

That's so Dean, right?

A miscellaneous point I repeated so many times in all my metas from this season was, Castieo was related to people dressing green and pink and Dean with people dressing blue and pink: THIS IS BECAUSE THEY'RE EACH OTHER'S HAPPINESS.

Another symbolic reference, this time related to Dean's behavior, it's the following piece of dialogue between Dean and Sam at the beginning of the scene:

DEAN: You know they still put, um, jokes on the backs of these things. Listen to this one... What's round and bad-tempered? "A vicious circle." (...)

This is self referencing over here, my friends, because is talking about how Dean is stuck in his toxicity, and his way to "solve" his problems and repress his feelings m is a vicious circle that never ends, and he's playing in the same line, and lying to himself. The bad temper, is a reflection of Toxic Dean, and he's trapped in this vicious circle, and he needs to MOVE ON to make things changing.

And because we had people moving in this episode, it's another symbolic analogy to what Dean must do to grow up.

Bi!Dean episode and Dean's attempt to fix things with Castiel

Episode 15x07 was full of Bi!Dean subtext.

Dean is praised by a male sheriff, and we had a waitress flirting with him. And Dean rejecting her all the time. Why? Because he behaves as a married guy, married with Castiel, if you know what I mean.

We had the whole bi flag lighting when Dean was singing on the stage, and this whole sexual tension with his old friend, Castiel's mirror.

Jumping from Bi!Dean to the Destiel breakup, we had this symbolic dialogue:

When Dean found the girl at the bar, he interrogates her, but Lee, his friend, called him, and the words he says: "She went without saying goodbye?" "Well, maybe she deserved it."

This was related to episode 15x03 when Castiel walked away from Dean. It felt as if he didn't say goodbye to Dean, 'but maybe Dean deserved it.'

Keeping the drama here, we had Castiel calling Dean the whole episode and Dean not answering the phone.

Castiel came back to the bunker because he had a plan, but when things doesn't work well, he calls Dean... A lot of times. But Dean didn't answer... Just like a cheating husband. Cas lost his temper and he even shouts WHERE ARE YOU!? At the phone.

Avoiding the whole Swayze's Bar and Rocky's Bar parallels you can find in my meta link on the top of this analysis, let's just go to the 'Lovers Quarrel scene and enjoy the failed attempt from Dean to fix things with Cas... à la Dean.

When Dean appeared at the bunker, Castiel's face is about surprise, relief, and a hint of heart eyes, Dean is acting as if nothing had happened between them, just like I expected to occur, because is his way to avoid things. But this time it won't work, because CAS recalls immediately Dean's hard words and the last call, and he recalls that THEY DIDN'T PART FRIENDS (this quote from episode 7x17 when they came back to see each other after the break up in season 6).

That's why I said Dean is trying to fix things à la Dean here, just acting as if nothing happened. It's the coward way to try to approach the love of your life.

Awkward, horrible and wonderful, Awkward silence. The romantic tension here! Even my dog saw it. This was deliberately written and performing to show what it is: ROMANTIC TENSION.

This was gold... because Dean's face is yelling: Uh, oh, wait, don't go, we still can chat a little... oh wait, right. Things are still bad... got it.

So, Cas changed his face, and he just threw a few words, and leaves, quickly. Dean senses this, and he just grimaced, okay... What did you expect, Dean? Things are not good. You need to use your words!

Imagine their hearts running fast, dry mouth, knowing they love each other so much and they missed each other so much. They're finally in the same room, but things are not good. Castiel is very hurt and Dean can't spell the magic words.

And now, it his wasn't enough Destiel pining for you... we had this last scene:

Dean stares at Castiel, and Castiel feels that look, but he didn't look back at Dean. This is because Castiel is trying to show Dean how much he hurted him. The Destiel eye-fuck/eye-love making has been always their way of intimate communication. Well. Castiel cut it off here. Just like Dean did with that phonecall.

Time to Fix things. Time for Purgatory 2.0

The whole episode 15x08 showed how broken were Destiel. Dean and Castiel were shown in divided, separated, in all the frames.

Castiel didn't touch Dean to heal him FOR THE FIRST TIME. This scene was very meaningful to show things are not good.

We also had the scene with Rowena, in which they were sitting far away from each other, another empty seat in the middle, and Rowena noticing this, and obviously, giving that married couple a good speech. Almost yelling at them to fix their mess.

So, if Dean and Castiel had to fix their relationship, what better than go to Purgatory again. The place where Dean realized he was in love with Castiel. Because it was pure, and his feelings and thoughts alined into one spot: THE LOVE HE FEELS FOR THAT ANGEL.

After this scene, Dean and Castiel spoke with Michael, and did you know what Michael says in one of his lines?:

ADAM: What about 'I'm sorry'?

LEGENDARY MY FRIENDS! The whole Universe was yelling at Dean to use his words and ask for forgiveness to his angel, to fix things with him. That's why karma sent them back to Purgatory.

Miscellaneous: two things I want to point about Saileen: they were mirroring Destiel the whole time, even the goodbye scene and even Dean calling Eileen as the hot woman perfect for Sam, that understands him, it was a reference to Castiel, the perfect man for Dean, that understands him and is pretty hot.

Second is the fact that Castiel cockblocked Sam and Eileen. Again, karma. 🤣

To Conclude:

The 'Lovers Quarrel' was shown in the show as one of the centric topics. GA could see and be aware of the ROMANTIC TENSION between these two.

But don't worry, the breakup is coming to it's end in the next episode. One of the most beautiful Destiel scenes, and is happening in Purgatory of love 2.0.

Paresse isn't. Quite the romantic type. With everything that happened with Michel and those memories still haunting him, he absolutely wants nothing to do with any of it. Fussa hasn't considered romance in years either, hasn't bothered pursuing anything when the world seems so bleak.

And then comes along the formation of the West Tokyo Incidents...

Of course it's just business at first. They only really talk during practice and it only changes when Fussa explicitly takes the first step to actually trying to befriend him. If this shit's gonna be real, everyone needs to get along. So before they really start recording for their first album, Fussa insists the four get together and just hang out.

It's soon after this that Mizho and Rage are testing the waters of a relationship together and Fussa decides to take the first step and break the ice with Paresse, with the intent of being friends. They rapidly become good friends in the course of that one day, two tired as fuck individuals who've had to deal with their teenager partners. A fire unfelt for years lights in Fussa's chest. Paresse talks more at once than he has in ages.

It's a friendship that will last easily through the rest of their lives together. When the band eventually all move in together... things shift. Paresse's habits of intimacy are more obvious when he's at rest. He doesn't mind when Fussa nods off and falls asleep against his shoulder when its 2am and they're still doing paperwork. And slowly he realizes he really, really doesn't mind. And it's not just a cultural difference. He suddenly wants everything to do with romance if it means making those pretty brown eyes light up behind the amber shades.

Fussa wakes up in bed after these nights, face hot at the realization he'd carried her to her bedroom at some point. And the fire in her gets brighter. It's not just the new passion for music, and his tired little smiles at her shitty jokes get stuck in her head.

When Paresse asks her to dinner she can't refuse. He's sweet, careful, and clearly anxious. It's cute. She forgets for a while why her own chest is tight... until he kisses her cheek to tell her good night, calling her 'handsome' in the same breath. Her fingers tighten in the front of his shirt. Her voice is a hoarse whisper.

"Don't call me that..."

She hasn't come out yet. He doesn't know. She feels like a fraud. She's shaking. He frowns and reaches a hand up to hold her shoulder, confused, but she's suddenly gone from him, shutting the door to her bedroom a little too hard.

Paresse isn't stupid. The only thing he'd 'called' Fussa was 'handsome,' and Paresse is trans himself. But this does throw something new into the works.

For the longest time he considered himself gay. Only interested in men. He stares at the closed door and mulled it over in his brain for a moment, wondered if it changed anything about how he felt about hi-- her? Them?

He gives her a few days, wondering if she'd say anything. She doesn't. They barely talk. Rage and Mizho know some shit happened and give each other looks. Paresse knows he has to say something.

It haunts him at 2am when he's doing paperwork with her. She's silent and sitting too far away from him, next to the window as she smokes.

He drops his pen off to the side with a sigh and words fall out of his mouth before he can even think them up, "Would 'beautiful' be better?"

She blinks at him, taken aback, "What...?"

"You said not to call you handsome, so--" his voice cracks and he clears his throat, "so I'm asking if you'd prefer beautiful...?" He can't make himself look up at her. It's a tense silence that falls.

"You wouldn't prefer someone handsome, instead?" Her voice is tired, jaded. She's already accepted rejection. She can't imagine that maybe he was anything other than upset that she wasn't a man.

"No, I wouldn't." He finally looks up, seeing genuine surprise in her eyes, "No, I want to see where this goes. So maybe I'm bi, not gay, so what?" He looks down and starts picking at his fingers, "I enjoyed our date a lot, whether I see you as a man or a woman-- or as neither...! I'd like to keep trying with this, whatever it becomes, with whoever we are. I mean, fuck, I'm trans too so, I mean..." He trails off, biting his lip hard as he realizes he's made one of his fingers bleed.

"..." The smoke is put out and Fussa moves out of the room for a moment. Paresse thinks he's screwed up, but then she returns and sits next to him. She gently takes his bleeding hand and wipes the blood away with the first aid kit she had gotten and bandages the finger.

"Then yes. I'd much prefer beautiful."
