about to play thoroughfare in the car with my dad 🙏🏼
#got 10 seconds into thoroughfare and he went 'i like this!' HELLO????#like yes i manipulated the situation i purposely put on the ethel song i thought would both break him in gently while still being something#that i know for a fact he would like but i was still kinda expecting him to just not acknowledge it?#like i have a bit of a thing with my dad and music like we all know im a freak about music#but a lot of my taste comes from stuff my dad listens to bc his taste in music is and always has been amazing#and it's one thing he knows a LOT about like we are both just undoubtedly neurodivergent about music#so regardless of my bitter 'i dont need him!' attitude towards my dad i still really really crave his approval with music#like i sit there and casually put my music on and go 'oh yeah' when he points out that it's good#but in reality i painstakingly made a queue before getting in the car and the moment he says even one thing im like !!!!!#which is sooo embarrassing but anyway. so the moment he said he liked thoroughfare i was already chuffed to bits like that was enough for m#BUT i know my dad i know he's a freak at heart that likes weird narratives so i decided to take a risk#(and also did just get too excited about precher's daughter like it couldnt be helped)#and i explained the album to him BRIEFLY. like 'its about an abused preacher's daughter who runs away from home#and tries to find love in bad men and one of them kills and cannibalises her. there's religious trauma'#and he did the very dad 'wtf' reaction at first but i could SEE id caught his attention like i KNOW my dad finds odd shit interesting#he's just like me fr and do you know what he said? 'remind me to listen to her properly when we get home' what. WHAT#HE SAID HE REALLY LOVES HER VOICE AND FOUND HER COMPELLING. HE'S A DAUGHTER OF CAIN WHAT THE FUCKKKK#HE HAS NEVER DONE THAT ABOUT ANY ARTIST IVE EVER SHOWN HIM#I LITERALLY ACTIVELY TOLD HIM TO LISTEN TO SAM FENDER AND HE STILL DIDNT#ALL I DID HERE WAS PUT THOROUGHFARE ON AND HE VOLUNTEERED TO LISTEN TO MORE BC HE LIKED IT SO MUCH#I CANNOT EXPRESS HOW BATSHIT THAT IS THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE#OF COURSE IT WAS ETHEL I /KNEW/ HED LIKE HER I FUCKING SAID SO#i win again <3#ethel cain#hella goes home
