[ID: An eight page digital comic featuring Sam, Celia, and Alice from The Magnus Protocol on a gray background. The characters are all colored with a single color each. Sam is red, Celia is green, and Alice is pink. Sam is a fat Arab man with short curly dark hair, a mustache, and a small goatee, and he is wearing small black earrings, a cardigan, a turtleneck, trousers and loafers. Celia is a taller Korean woman with short dark hair and she is wearing rectangular glasses, piercings including an industrial piercing, an x-shaped earring, and snakebites, a button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up, a vest, trousers, and black wrist cuffs. Alice is an even taller white woman with long fluffy hair and crooked teeth, and she is wearing cat eye glasses, three pairs of earrings, snakebites, a flannel shirt, a hoodie tied around her waist, a patchwork skirt, bracelets, and a lanyard.
Sam and Celia are stood at a table covered in papers. Celia urgently turns to Sam. Celia: Alice is coming! She can't catch us researching, we need a diversion, QUICK! How can we make her think we're not doing what we're doing? Sam, shrugging really hard: UHHHH she thinks I have a crush on you?? Celia, sweating, turns back to where Alice is coming from, panicked, and turns back to Sam, shrugging and reaching for him. Celia smiling a bit manically: Yeah, that'll work, sure!
Sam, with Celia's hands grabbing his cardigan: Wait whaAAAA- He is pulled out of frame. Alice walks in: Hey Sam, working hard or hardly woOOOAA She leans on the doorframe as she holds a hand to her chest in shock.
The next panel is rendered with soft pink shadows and "shoujo sparkles" in the now pink background. Sam is sitting on the table holding onto Celia, whose face is buried in his neck as she wraps one arm around his back and the other holds up one of his legs under his knee. Neither of their faces are visible. The rest of the page fades back to gray from there. Sam and Celia look over at Alice, hair ruffled, Sam is now blushing. Sam: ALICE!! He pushes Celia away and they look at each other for a moment, panicked. Sam: It's- .... exactly what it looks like! Celia: Aw, you've caught us! He rests his hands on her shoulders and they both look in opposite directions as though embarrassed. Celia is also blushing lightly. There are red and green neon signs pointing to them reading "Totally Ham-Slammin'" and "GAY! (in an M/F way)" respectively.
Alice looks to be in shock with a vacant expression and a computer pop up over her forehead reading "Alice.exe has stopped responding". In the next panel she is fine again and back to smirking. Alice: WOW SAM, didn't know you had it in you! Now I'm no snitch, so I didn't see anything, BUT- you lovebirds should cut it out before Gwen catches you. Celia and Sam look at each other anxiously, cheeks pressed together as she speaks. Alice: You KNOW she'd tell Lena. Celia, pulling back and smoothing her hair out: Oh, for sure. Sam: Th-Thanks, Alice. Alice: Don't mention it! I'll give you crazy kids a minute to straighten up, TA-TA~ She waves as she leaves.
Sam and Celia listen to her steps fade before going "phew" and finally pulling away from each other, now holding hands at an arms distance. Celia: You alright? That was kinda sudden.... Sam: It's fine! Just a bit caught off guard. Celia: I can't believe she actually bought all of that! Sam: Me either! Works for me, though.
Celia: Did you want to get down- Sam, pulling away suddenly, blushing again: NO! He crosses his legs and looks away sheepishly, scratching his head. Sam: I wanna stay here another minute or so.... Celia, concerned: You sure you're alright? Sam: Yeah! Just, er.... Celia looks at him, confused. Sam, blushing increasingly harder: Ahem. (He folds his hands in his lap politely.) I am not immune to being thrown on a table. Celia, smiling and politely stepping away: AH! .... Noted~
She walks away casually, still smiling. Celia: I'll give you a minute to collect yourself. Sam, head down in his lap, embarrassed: Thanks.... He looks up after she leaves. Sam: Wait. He straightens up, slightly panicked, face entirely red. Sam: What do you mean by "NOTED"?!
end ID]
~~~~
i am SO glad this episode didn't entirely debunk the silly headcanon that birthed this comic. initially i wasn't convinced sam actually had a crush so i made this like "well if he didn't before, HE DOES NOW" so.... here's this silly comic thing <3 i just think they're neat <3
The Creek - Evan 'Buck' Buckley x reader 2/?
Tumblr media
Summary: after a nasty storm rolls in, you and Chris decide to try and leave your sightseeing trip, until tragedy strikes, and Buck and Eddie are forced to make a rescue they never anticipated
Warnings: ..none really other than you almost dying 0.0
A/n: this has not been edited or proof-read :) lmk what you think <3 or what you wanna see happen in the next part :)
You and Buck decided to keep things private, just between you two for now, just until you got out of the honeymoon phase of a new relationship. Until then, you found it fun to sneak out, it made you both feel like teenagers again, but at the end of the day, you always met Buck at his apartment, cuddling up with him on the couch for dinner, before finally going to bed.
You and Chris were spending the day together while Eddie and Buck went to work. It was so far a good day, you took Chris to an ice cream stand, before going to a local tourist attraction. You knew Chris always wanted to fly, so you decided to take him up to a skyscraper, letting him view out of the windows to see the city below "Ya know, if you look super close, you could see dad's work" You whispered to him, pointing out the tiny firehouse in the distance, smiling knowing the man you admired so much was out there saving people. As you looked up though you saw something that made you gulp, large storm clouds rolling closer and closer to you, you knew how dangerous being this high in a building could be, and you weren't even on the top floor.
The building swayed with the wind, the metal and steel whining and groaning under the stress, Chris started to stumbled, causing you to reach out to help stabilize him so he didn't lose his balance "Come on, let's get lower before the storm gets worse" You encouraged, nudging Christopher to the elevators, as you both loaded in, and the elevator started its decent, loud crackles emitted from above you, the power and movement cutting out at the same time. Christopher grabbed your arm tightly "Y/n?..What's happening?" He whimpered, you wrapped an arm around him kneeling down "It's okay, bud, I promise, we just have to be brave like dad and Buck" You whispered, trying to shake the feeling something terrible was about to happen.
"118 we have a distress call coming from the skyscraper downtown, floor 53, caller says a window has busted and the level is flooding with rain water, be advised, there is a wind advisory, so winds will be powerful up there" Maddie's voice rang through the walkie's as the team finished up a small brush fire. "Got it, show us responding" Bobby replied, motioning everybody to load up and move out.
You took a deep breath trying to hide your fear as the elevator started to fill with water, you could tell something was wrong with the floor above "Okay, it's okay, we're gonna...uh..get you up on the railig beore the water gets above your chin any higher, okay?" You whimpered nervously, helping Chris onto the hand rail that was slightly above water, watching his feet slip and slide against the metal, you moved to stand in front of him "You're okay, I'm right here, I won't let you fall, Christopher" You promised, your lips turning blue, and the feeling in the toes and fingers slowly vanishing "We should be fine now! I'm s-sure your dad will be here to save us in no time" you tried to hold back your tears, but your body was freezing to the point it was starting to become painful now.
It had been about five minutes before you started ti get another bad feeling, a slight buzzing was erupting in your body, and you couldn't tell why, until the button panel sparked, sending hundreds of volts of electricity through the water, sending you straight into an unconscious state, leaving your body floating gently above the water. "Y/n? Somebody help!" Christopher cried out, trying to shake your body, desperate for you to wake back up.
Hen, Eddie, and Buck rushed the side of the building, realizing they wouldn't be able to open an doors, they'd have to scale the side of the building to get to the flooded floor. As Bobby gave the go-ahead tug on the ropes tied to the roof, the boys and Hen started to climb up, it took them about five minutes before reaching the floor, Eddie and Hen started helping people down, Buck getting the others ready to go down next, as he panted, he stopped for a moment, swearing he heard Christopher's shout. It couldn't be though, he had to of been going crazy "Buck, the front desk worker said there should be two more people up there other than the 12 you counted, Do Not let Eddie find out..But the check-in list says it's a Diaz and l/n" Bobby's voice broke through Buck's speaker "Hey! Hey! There was a little boy up here too! A-and- And a woman! Where are they!?" Buck shouted to the others over the wind, his stomach dropping whenever they pointed to the elevator that was sucking water through the cracks.
Buck raced down the stairs, breaking through the next floor down, grabbing a chair throwing it against the door to make some type of noise "CHRISTOPHER!? Y/N!?" He shouted against the metal door frame, sighing in relief whenever he heard Christopher shout back, his relief short lived as Christopher spoke "Buck! You have to save us! Y/n passed out! and the water keeps shocking me whenever I try and get her!" He screamed in reply "Bobby! I need power cut!" Buck screamed into his walkie talkie, tears welling in his eyes not noticing Bobby rushing in behind with a haligan axe and a fire axe "Let's go!" He shouted, handing Buck an axe.
Chris whimpered hearing Metal whining as it bent before hearing the water rush out and the view of Buck's face greeted him through the now pried open doors "Come on, come on we got you" Buck whispered, He watched as Bobby started CPR on your body "Buck! Chim and I got this! Get him down to the truck!" Bobby shouted, he nodded nervously, grabbing his rope that was left dangling, clipping it back to his harness. "W-What? We can't leave her! We have to stay, Buck!" Chris fought, trying to break Buck's hold as Buck approached the window, ready to repel down back to safety. "Listen to me! Christopher, they have the best people wokring on her, right now, I have to get you to your dad and checked out" Buck argued, holding onto Chris tightly as he slowly lowered the both of them down the side of the building "Buck! You have to save her! She's the closest I'll ever be to having a mom again! I love her!" Christopher begged, tears welling up in his eyes "Me too, Chris, I love her too, so I'll make sure she's okay, but you can't tell anyone." Buck said as they approached the ground, Eddie taking notice to his son being harnessed to Buck, he rushed over "Where's Y/n?" He asked panicked, grabbing Christopher quickly "She's getting CPR, I'm going back up" Buck said sternly.
You didn't really remember anything whenever you woke up, spending two weeks in the hospital before finally being released. You were forced to spend the next three weeks after that being babied and pampered by Buck. You both laid on the couch cuddling as star wars played on the tv, as you slept peacefully on Buck's chest he panicked hearing the front door open, not knowing if he should out you both as together, or sit up risking you falling off the couch. Eddie smirked clearing his throat "Lookie what I found Christopher, looks like Buck's trying to keep y/n from you guys's lunch plans" He teased, Christopher appearing from around the doorway smiling "Evan?.." You asked slowly waking up, your mind still groggy from your nap, taking a few moments to realize Chris and Eddie were standing right in front of you. "Listen, I wasn't the one who put her to sleep, she decided to take a nap" Buck chuckled, taking note of Eddie protective glare watching his hand resting a little too low on your back.
It didn’t take long for you to get ready and leave with Christopher for your lunch plans, leaving Buck and Eddie to sit alone in his living room “Evan.” Eddie said, tone matching one that he would use for Chris whenever he was having an attitude or not listening to his father. “Yes Edmundo?” Buck mocked crossing his arms “you realize, y/n is like a sister or daughter to me, and as someone who cares truly about her, I say Evan Buckley, if she ever comes to my home, crying about something stupid you did, I will find you. Or I’ll let Christopher find you” he threatened, knowing Buck would fight Eddie back, but he wouldn’t dare hurt Christopher. “I understand Eddie, I don’t wanna hurt Y/n anymore than she’s already been hurt..she’s dealt with a lot in her life and I just wanna make the life we have left better for her in any way that I can” Buck said honestly fiddling with his fingers “I trust you. But remember what I said” Eddie warned before resting his hand on Buck’s shoulder “now, how about we go get our own lunch to celebrate your new relationship” he smiled pushing Buck playfully before grabbing his keys “fine, but only because hearing Y/n talk about the food her and Chris are getting made me hungry” Buck agreed smiling standing up making his way to the shoe rack.
Twisted Wonderland Boys x Gn! Reader Breakups
Tumblr media
A/n: Hi!, We're back to brainrotting for a bit <3 Will not be writing Ace and Cater since I don't know much about both of them currently! Masterlist
Chapter Two: Savanaclaw
━━━━⊱⋆⊰━━━━
Sypnosis: Imagine how twisted Wonderland boys are as your ex-boyfriends? Who would cut ties first? or how they would break up with you due to unforeseen circumstances? what was the reason for their breakup, and how would they do it?
Heartslabyul:
Riddle: Breaks up with you first
♚ He breaks up with you first, not because of his mother’s decisions, no, it’s because he thinks that he’s not giving you enough time. He’s always in motion, filled with responsibilities, he didn’t know if he could even spend time with you anymore.
♚ At first, he was fine with it, thinking that, once summer break happens, he would get to spend time with you, however, he almost forgot that his mother is anticipating his arrival back home, and he felt apologetic for even telling you that he’ll have more time once summer started, a huge error on his part.
♚ He realized that his time with you started to get chipped slowly, more and more responsibilities awaited him after finishing his second year.
♚ He decided that you deserve a boyfriend who could give you the time he lacks, and you deserve to know about his plans. Inviting you out for the first (and last) time. He invites you out to eat at a nearby café. One that you frequented with him in the first stages of your relationship.
♚ He’d have a casual conversation with you first, before setting down the tea he ordered; mustering the courage he accumulated during the time he couldn’t talk to you.
♚ “We should break up” he stated, hands intertwining with each other as if he’s speaking in a housewarden meeting.
♚ “What?” your voice broke, almost breaking the glass you were drinking from as the hurt in your heart made his heart ache and making him want to backtrack his statement. Yet he continued forward.
♚ “I think you deserve better than my broken promises” his resolve was crumbling when your lips formed into a thin line, looking down as if you were admitting defeat made him frown further. “I’m sorry,” he adds, feeling as if cotton was stuck in his throat, what else could he say in this situation?
♚ “Maybe if we focused on our careers first-“He cut himself off, a bitter realization that he was starting to sound like his mother as he bit his lip, he couldn’t face you anymore, standing up he fixed his uniform, “I’ll give you some space.” He finishes, before grabbing his bag, “Riddle-“you tried to call out to him but he was out of the door in a split second.
♚ He was pathetic, how would he consider himself a man, leaving you there alone? He basically ruined your reputation.
♚ As an ex-boyfriend, he would avoid you at all costs, and even if he couldn’t he’ll cut his conversations short with you, he knows that you might hate him because of what he did, so he’s making sure that he respects your time for self-healing.
♚ Although he unconsciously seeks you, sometimes he would ask your friends, especially if they’re from Heartslabyul like Ace and Deuce if you found a new lover? Or were you preparing for something? Like a midterm exam or finals? Or were you planning on any new designs for Ramshackle?
♚ 7/10 ex-boyfriend, mainly because he cannot move on from you and will continue to keep tabs on you if you ever find another lover, he’ll get so upset and hurt by it, but realizing that he was at fault he swallows up all his bitterness and “tries” to accept it.
Trey: You break up first
☘︎ You didn’t really understand why you would break up with someone like Trey, he gave you everything, yet you ended a perfect relationship with him just like that.
☘︎ Which is normal, you lost feelings for Trey Clover, and you couldn’t see a future with him, maybe it was the fact that you felt like you two didn’t have the spark that you felt in the first stages of your relationship. There are endless possibilities of why you would break up with Trey Clover. But this simply was because of your loss of love for him.
☘︎ Trey would notice how you seemed to be further from him, or at least you were starting to distance yourself from him. He’d ask you if you wanted to come to go out on a date with him, but simply refused, he’ll respect that, but couldn’t help but wonder what has gotten you to start avoiding him out of nowhere?
☘︎ He would be patient at first, letting you have your alone time, and he’d do his own thing, having plenty of responsibilities that he could distract himself instead of worrying why you were ignoring him.
☘︎ Maybe you needed time? Did he do something wrong? Or was it the time Riddle got his attention due to almost collaring a few Heartslabyul students during your date inside NRC?
☘︎ He didn’t even realize that despite trying to avoid his thoughts, they were still there, so when you finally decided to speak to him after a few weeks of ignoring him, he was ecstatic.
☘︎ But that was short-lived when you told him that you wanted to end your relationship with him.
☘︎ His heart dropped when he heard that, but his face remained neutral, staring into your eyes, scanning for any jokes, this might be some cruel joke, right? He wanted to grab your shoulders, and ask you what happened and what did he do wrong? When did you start thinking about this? But all he could ask was
☘︎ “Why?” even muttering that made his throat constrict, he looked away, hand automatically going to his forehead as he felt like he was having a bad dream
☘︎ You told him that you simply lost interest, that you didn’t want to drag the relationship further, and that he deserves someone who could love him fully. He wanted to reject it, but he couldn’t, he didn’t have the heart to force you to reconsider when it’s obvious you’ve been thinking about this for so long.
☘︎ He’d accept it without a fuss, even to the point he gave you one last hug, a lingering one because he knew that it was the last time he gets to hold you like this as your boyfriend.
☘︎ “I hope you find someone who’ll treat you right” A painful farewell, but he knew that with time, he’ll try to heal.
☘︎ As an Ex-Boyfriend, he wouldn’t be the type to avoid you, he might stay friends with you even, in order to keep peace, he doesn’t like conflicts and starts thinking about the situation in a more positive way, that you two weren’t meant for each other and that you deserve someone much more compatible (although the thought of you being with someone else leaves a bitter taste in his mouth) If you avoid him however, he wouldn’t notice it, since he’s starting to get used not seeing you more often than normal.
☘︎ Whether you’d be bitter at the improvement or not, Trey is trying his best to put both your best interests at heart, you broke up with him, so he’s just trying to remain civilized with the situation!
☘︎ Overall 10/10. He is the best ex-boyfriend you can have, he doesn’t get hostile with you, maybe a little awkward but he doesn’t outright insult your name and ruin your reputation to other heartslabyul students.
Deuce: You break up first
♠️ Wouldn’t believe it at first, he’d try to ask you where he was lacking, was it because he wasn’t acting like an adult? Was he too childish? Dumb? Immature? He would try to stop you from leaving without telling him the reason, but he wouldn’t get too aggressive with it even of you truly wanted to leave him with no questions unanswered.
♠️ You’re Deuce’s first lover, so he can’t just let you go, he’s in denial that you even broke up with him, expect a few flowers, phone calls and chats from him which is encouraged by a few of his friends.
♠️ If you truly didn’t want him to chase you, please provide him with a reason why you even wanted to leave in the first place. He won’t argue with you for it, he just needed to know where he lacked that he pushed you to the point where you had to break up with him.
♠️ If it was something like losing the spark in the relationship, he wouldn’t understand it at first but would accept it.
♠️ Sometimes, his gaze would linger on you if you decided to stay friends with him instead of ghosting him. If you noticed he’d outright, try to reject it only to wither if you pushed even a little bit.
♠️ His response would be that he still really loves you, and hopes that you’d reconsider (no matter how many months to years it takes)
♠️ His mother would know about what happened but wouldn’t hate you for it, sometimes young love doesn’t work out, however, she does feel the want to scold you for creating such a mess of his son whenever he calls.
♠️ Always talking about you instead of himself, she understands that he truly does love you as first love, but she’s really hoping that you’d either take him back, or her son could finally move on, especially when there are many fishes in the sea, her son is not ugly after all!
♠️ As an Ex- Boyfriend, would rate him a 5/10, he’s sweet, caring, and a good boyfriend, but as your ex, he’s not the type to let go that easily, he would yearn for you, wish that you’ll take him back no matter what. So, unfortunately, he’s not good with staying far away from you when he craves your affection.
Been absolutely going through it for the past few months, so I wanted to write something self-indulgent for myself. Consider this a WIP potentially but also could be its own self-contained short fic. I hope you enjoy /pos
///
Pairing: Alexis/Sam [Note: Pairing exists within an AU where post Sam's turning (years later), they both go to therapy separately, start to heal, and realize they see one another in a new light and eventually start up a romantic relationship again.]
Length: ~650 words
Maia = "Darlin" clarification
Sam/Maia (or Sam/Darlin) isn't a thing but they do still meet/are friends
Gave Alexis a new surname cause I said so/she's Cuban to me and I want her name to reflect that
Tag List: @pinksparkl / @romirola / (for the many belated WIP Wednesdays you've tagged me in <3) / @angelicaether / @agentplutonium / @nortyourself
Sam inhaled sharply, a soft groan leaving the vampire as he reached for his phone buzzing on the nightstand. He clicked the alarm off, sitting up as his eyes skimmed the notifications. 2 texts from Vincent, a voicemail from Maia— Scratch that, a text from Maia asking for advice with Milo. Calendar notification for tonight's meeting.
"What's the traffic lookin' like...?" he mumbled under his breath, eyeing the time as he checked. William hated preventable tardiness, and Sam didn't want to earn a earful tonight. "Usual time, huh? I'm sure I can get Vincent to stall for time if it really comes down to it..."
He set his phone back down, moving the covers back before making his way to the other side of the bed. He looked down, smiling to himself at how little Alexis had on. When did she even manage to snag his button up after this morning? He shook his head with a grin. It looked better on her anyways.
Sam tucked a piece of her hair behind Alexis' ear, "Princess, it's time to get up." The older vampire stirred for a moment but made no moves to get up. "Alexis Guevara, I know you can hear me—"
"Hearing your Southern drawl isn't incentive enough to get up," she mumbled, though she pressed her cheek against the palm of Sam's hand more. Always a brat, he thought to himself as he fought a smile.
"Princess, you were the one who said we oughta set an alarm so we wouldn't be late to the clan meetin'."
"Yes, and I said that before someone here wore every inch of my body out."
"Didn't hear any complaints when I had my—" Sam cut himself off with a laugh as Alexis flipped him off, eyes still closed. He knelt at the bedside, leaning forward to kiss her knuckle. "C'mon, Princess. Y'know Will's gonna fuss if you of all people are late to the meetin'. And I'd feel awfully complicit knowing we're not starting off this livin' together thing with a reputation for punctuality. So," he punctuated with a kiss against the shoulder slipping out of the stolen shirt. "Can you get up for me? Lil ol' Collins?"
Alexis laid there for a few moments, no reaction verbally or physically. Then, with a sigh, she opened her eyes ever so slightly. "For the record, there's not a small thing about you and you know that."
He laughed, and a smile broke out onto her face. "Good evening to you too, Miss Guevara. Lovely being greeted by beautiful eyes and a beautiful smile on this fine night."
"Yeah yeah, scoot out the way so I can find my clothes." Sam stood as Alexis sat up with a quiet exhale, stretching and pulling her hair out of her face. "How much time do we have before we need to leave?"
"Mmm bout twenty or so minutes. Don't worry bout the time though, I'll keep my eye on that," Sam assured, leaning down and kissing his partner.
"Sounds like a plan to me." Alexis tugged on one of the twists Sam had hanging, smiling to herself as she stood from the bed and walked past him.
Sam watched her go, tilting his head. "Don't you think you're forgettin' to leave somethin'? Somethin' on yer person that don't belong to you?"
Alexis looked over her shoulder with faux confusion, tapping a manicured nail against her lips a few time. "Mmm nope. Can't say I have. As far as I'm concerned, everything I've got on right now might as well belong to me. Oh, but maybe you should go find a shirt to wear, Sam. I don't think we need any bold fashion statements at tonight's meeting," she added with a smirk, turning on her heels and heading for his bathroom.
Sam chuckled, shaking his head with a grin. Troublemaker.
Fallen Threads Across the Dancefloor
An Obiyuki Week 2024 Playlist for Day 7: West Coast Swing (Free Day) by @snowwhite-andtheknight
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Been waiting to use these songs for over a year after remembering some perfect Postal Service songs and discovering some new Beths songs! The playlist started out with a “Red String of Fate” theme, but it also works for this swinging friends-to-lovers theme. There’s even kinda a swing beat in the title lyric track “Our Braided Lives” and maybe a few more. I actually used to swing dance for fun and I’m glad West Coast Swing was added to the prompt list, it’s perfect for Obiyuki!
Took a while to figure out a good order for this playlist without putting two songs by the same band next to each other… ended up starting with a night out and the consequences (and feelings) that ensued… ending in Obi style with his overwhelming doubts.
Fallen Threads Across the Dancefloor
A Tattered Line of String- The Postal Service Untangled Love- Brandon Flowers Our Braided Lives- Matt Pond PA Brand New Colony- The Postal Service Jump Rope Gazers- The Beths Sugar River- Matt Pond PA Just Shy of Sure- The Beths Glory of the Snow- Clairo Unraveling- Violents and Monica Martin Keep The Distance (Demo)- The Beths
Summary lyrics are cited after the cut (and bonus feels Obi):
Tumblr media
A Tattered Line of String- The Postal Service
You've got a tattered line of string And you tied 'round everything That you want to call your own But it never seems to hold
When we walk, we agreed That we would not ever speak of of this night to anyone that we both knew
Then you said "Every time we kissed I felt something that couldn't exist"
Untangled Love- Brandon Flowers
Well let's say that now's the time to start Blessed all, the young at heart
I've been looking for untangled love But it's hard to get a handle on I always hoped I'd see the light Break the bad luck in my life
It's been twenty-one years since I left home I've been looking for a place to call my own I see the silver lining shining like polished gold
Untangled love I can see it in your eyes Untangled love You took me by surprise
Our Braided Lives- Matt Pond PA
Our braided lives At times I'm tied Fallen threads across The bedroom floor
Will this not end? Will this star claim us all?
The space between Our wandering hands I might not have to be Alone anymore The night could end The dark could leave us all
Far below the glowing Ceiling sky The night will end The dark will leave The time begins For us to see it all
Brand New Colony- The Postal Service
I'll be the phonograph that plays your favorite albums back As you're lying there, drifting off to sleep
I'll be the platform shoes, undo what heredity's done to you You won't have to strain to look into my eyes
I'll be your winter coat, buttoned and zipped straight to the throat With the collar up, so you won't catch a cold
Start a brand new colony Where everything will change We'll give ourselves new names, identities erased The sun will heat the grounds Under our bare feet in this brand new colony
Jump Rope Gazers- The Beths
I've never been the dramatic type But if I don't see your face tonight I, well I guess I'll be fine
Decipher the signs Like we're slowly coming together Yeah it's slowly coming out about us
Oh I, I think I love you And I think that I loved you the whole time
How could this happen We were jump rope gazers in the middle of the night Hide my heart behind a brighter light So you struggle straining eyes to find Why we made it this way
My hopes are prone to elevate But the way your mind and mine relate It breaks the patterns we make
I was just waiting for the grazes on my hands to mend I was afraid of the sting
And I wanna give it my best try How could this happen We were jump rope gazers
Sugar River- Matt Pond PA
Hollow hearts don't know their wrong from right The world we're waiting for won't disappear The world we're waiting for is all right here
Along the river bank the root stays strong Heart of hearts you know there's nothing wrong
The world we're waiting for will shake our dreams Move them through the dark and down the street
Reaching and rallying they merge every time Our ties become part of the way we survive To stare down the shadows Made up in the hollows We're safe in these seconds There's proof in your eyes
Sugar river rolling through the night Rushing under the midnight sky
Just Shy of Sure- The Beths
Love in memory Was a plague that consumed me Shifted all my priorities
I have kept the hurt buried deep into winter dirt I watch at night when the mound stirs This is not the burn I've known It's an ache in my every bone Maybe you want to be alone
When do things suffice? Can you be happy all your life? Do you think it can happen twice? Maybe that's a swing Hey, you can't win without entering Are you cool to lose everything?
Weak, but I'll pretend That you still want me I'm the one you adore But I'm just shy of sure
Glory of the Snow- Clairo
I can feel there's something in the between For a moment, I heard you talking to me
I pull on the string that binds me To memories of the way I loved you I push on the door, the one I've ignored The one that leads me to you
Glory of the snow I'm waking up and now I know
I can see there's someone looking for me For a moment, I heard the rustling lеaves
Sweeping under rugs, the one I was not gonna Gonna dance on again
Unraveling- Violents and Monica Martin
Wide-eyed wonder, where did you go? Pagan cynic, constant critic, friend to a foe I'm unraveling
I much prefer you the way that I found you And I hate who I am when I am around you But you're far away and I need you close to me A sad simple truth that's lost in the irony
Keep The Distance (Demo)- The Beths
We kept the distance Kept it at no one’s insistence Pushing against no resistance but ourselves It’s not complicated Lovers get humiliated I wanted you but couldn’t say it out loud
There's a hole in my memory It's widening with each new entry Blooming like a flower when everything falls through Each death and redemption Each second of increasing tension Every ounce of pure prevention we hеld to
If you’re heading out then I insist you make a move But if it’s not the moment Then bottle up the breath I’m holding Sorry to my serotonin Some bad news
We’re caught, torn in the fabric Enthrallеd, drawn like a magnet But we keep the distance Just an attempt to get by
Love, Toes and Pistons, part 2
The Harper family home stood on a quiet suburban street, its white picket fence and neatly trimmed hedges looking maybe too perfect, almost artificial. Riley, 18 year old girl with brown eyes and auburn hair tied in a short ponytail stood on the sidewalk, dressed in a knee-length dress and flip-flops, feeling a nervous flutter in her chest as Alex led her up the front steps, his hand gently brushing against her shoulder in reassurance.
“You don’t have to be nervous,” Alex said, his easy smile a stark contrast to the way Riley felt.
“I’m not nervous,” Riley lied, biting the inside of her cheek. Her tone betrayed her, though, and Alex chuckled.
“They’ll love you,” he said. “Well, my mom will for sure. My dad... might take some warming up.”
“I can't help myself,” Riley muttered. “I really don't work well around people outside our garage.”
Alex stopped her just before they reached the door, turning to look at her seriously. “Hey, if it gets weird, we’ll leave. Okay? You’re not doing this alone.”
She gave him a small, grateful nod, though the knot in her stomach didn’t loosen.
Inside, Alex’s mom, Marianne Harper, greeted them with a warm but slightly tentative smile. She was a shortm slightly chubby woman with friendly, round face and kind eyes. Her husband, Richard, was a taller, sterner presence, his expression immediately betraying dislike from the moment he recognized Riley as the cocky mechanic who worked on his brakes before.
“Mom, Dad, this is Riley. Riley, my parents” Said Alex to introduce them.
“Hi, Mrs. Harper, Mr. Harper,” Riley said, stepping forward with a polite smile.
Marianne offered her hand for a handshake, awkwardly pausing as her eyes flicked to Riley’s shoulders, the sleeves of her T-shirt hanging flat and empty. Riley saved the situation by raising her foot, which she offered for a handshake. Marianne hesitated for a fraction of a second before shaking it, her polite smile intact.
“It’s lovely to meet you, Riley,” Marianne said. “Alex has told us a lot about you.”
“Likewise,” Riley replied.
Richard, however, didn’t move to greet her. His arms remained crossed over his chest, his lips pressed into a thin line. His gaze wasn’t openly hostile, but it was critical, sizing her up as if she were an applicant for a job he was sure she didn't deserve.
“So,” he said finally, his tone neutral but tinged with skepticism, “you’re that girl who worked on my Camry.”
“Yes, sir,” Riley said evenly. “Glad it’s running better now.”
He grunted in acknowledgment but didn’t offer more.
***
Few moments later, the four of them sat down to dinner, a roasted chicken and baked potatoes that Marianne had clearly put a lot of effort into. Conversation was light at first, focused on Alex’s classes and plans for college, but it didn’t take long for Richard to steer the discussion toward Riley.
“So, Riley,” he began, cutting into his chicken, pronouncing Riley's name as if it stung his tongue. “What makes you think you're a good match for my son?”
“Dad,” Alex interjected, his tone warning.
“Well, we're happy together,” Riley replied. “We actually found out we both liked each other for a long time, but were both too afraid to make the first move.”
Richard raised an eyebrow, briefly looking at Alex. “Did you, now? I get what you see in my son, we're well off and he's going to attend the best college in state, but what exactly you bring to the table, besides disability checks?”
“Dad!” Hissed Alex angrily.
“No, it’s fine,” Riley said, putting her foot reassuringly on his shoulder, her voice steady though her jaw tightened. “I can assure you, i never received a single disability check in my life - never applied, actually. I'm dealing with school well enough and i'm good at my job to have a lot of returning customers. If i'm not mistaken, your car should be enough of an evidence in that matter”
Richard leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms. “Sure, you did a solid job on my brakes. But my son needs a housewife to take care of the household. Someone who can cook, clean and raise his kids, not some armless grease monkey.”
“Dad what the hell?!” "Richard!" shouted Alex and Marianne almost simultaneously.
The words hit Riley like a punch to the gut, though she forced her expression to remain calm. She met Richard’s gaze directly.
“With all due respect, sir,” she said, keeping her tone cool, despite gritting her teeth “Alex and I care about each other. What we do with our lives is our business and i can assure you, i've been handling stuff back home since i was little. And i've been doing that practically all by myself ever since my dad busted his leg last year.”
Marianne stepped in, sensing the rising tension. “Richard, that’s enough,” she said firmly before turning to Riley with a more apologetic expression, attempting a 5 minutes past 12 damage control. “Riley, what i think my husband is trying to say is in a really bad way is... Living with such a severe disability like yours is a challenge not only for you, but for your potential partner too. Alex is our only son, and we want to make sure he’s making choices that are best for him.”
Riley softened slightly at Marianne’s tone. “I understand, Mrs. Harper, and i don't blame you for thinking so. I can asure you, i’m not trying to take advantage of Alex or hold him back. And i am used to taking care of myself and not to lean on anyone's help. We just... Like each other, why is it so hard to understand?”
Alex reached for Riley’s foot resting on the table in front of her and gave it a gentle squeeze. “Mom, Dad, I’m not a kid. I know what I’m doing, and I know who Riley is. If you can’t see that, then you don’t know me as well as you think.” With that, he nonned to Riley and they both left the table, ignoring Richard's angry shouts and Marianne's attempts at calming him down.
***
As they left the house, the tension in Riley’s shoulders finally began to ease, but involuntary tears started welling in her eyes. Alex walked beside her, reassuring arm around her shoulders.
“Well, that went about as well as I expected,” she said dryly, fighting the urge to cry.
“Don’t let my dad get to you,” Alex said. “He’s stubborn, but he’ll come around. And my mom already likes you, i can tell.”
“You think?”
“Yeah. You stood your ground and handled it like a champ. She respects that,” Alex said, grinning.
Riley gave a small smile. “Well, I’m glad someone does. Your dad’s got a ways to go, though.”
Alex stopped, turning to face her. “Hey. If my dad doesn’t get it, that’s his problem. Not ours. You’re incredible, Riley. I’ve known that since the moment I met you, and I’m not letting his opinions change that.”
Riley looked at him, her brown eyes softening. For the first time that night, the knot in her chest loosened completely.
“Thanks, Alex,” she said quietly.
He leaned in and kissed her, and for a moment, the doubts and judgments faded into the background. She looked up with teary eyes and smiled. "Come on, let's hang out at my place. No use standing here out in the streets.
***
The garage was quiet, the hum of the fluorescent lights overhead the only sound breaking the stillness. Riley and Alex sat on an old, faded loveseat tucked into the corner of the shop, its fabric stained with years of grease and hard work. Riley’s Pacer sat nearby, its hood up, waiting for new aftermarket 6-1 headers she was saving up for last few months.
Alex leaned back, his arm draped casually along the back of the couch, while Riley sat cross-legged, her foot resting lightly in his lap. His fingers were intertwined with her toes, holding them the way most people might hold a hand.
“You reall think your mom might actually like me?” asked Riley, her tone casual, but hopeful.
Alex chuckled. “I'm sure of it. She might not be the most open minded person in the world, but he's always been kind and understanding. Dad… well, he’ll come around eventually. Or he won’t, and I won’t lose sleep over it.”
Riley gave a skeptical snort. “Sure, that’s easy for you to say. You don’t have to be the one proving yourself to everyone.”
Alex squeezed her foot lightly. “You don’t have to prove anything to him, Riley. Nor to anyone else. If he can’t see how amazing you are, that’s his loss.”
Her cheeks flushed, and she looked away, pretending to study the shelves of tools across the room. “You’re way too nice to me, you know that?” she muttered.
“And you’re way too hard on yourself,” Alex countered, his voice gentle.
They enjoyed the intimate moment in quiet peace, until the sound of the back door opening broke the silence.
“Thought I heard voices in here,” Gus’s gruff voice announced.
Alex straightened up slightly as Riley’s father entered, a six-pack of root beer bottles dangling from one hand. Gus’s limp was more pronounced in the evening, his cane tapping rhythmically against the concrete floor as he approached.
“Evenin’, Dad,” Riley greeted, waving her foot, her voice light but with an edge of curiosity.
“Evenin’,” Gus replied, his sharp eyes landing on Alex. “So, you’re the Harper kid I’ve been hearin’ about.”
Alex stood up politely, offering his hand. “Yes, sir. Alex Harper. It’s nice to meet you.”
Gus eyed the handshake for a moment before setting down the root beer and taking Alex’s hand firmly. “Gus Greaves,” he said. “I’ve seen you 'round town. Didn’t know you were courtin’ my daughter.”
“Dad!” Riley exclaimed, her face burning.
“What? ’s the truth,” Gus said, his tone matter-of-fact as he released Alex’s hand.
Alex, to his credit, handled the scrutiny with grace. “Yes, sir. Riley and I have been seeing each other for a little while now.”
Gus grunted, his expression unreadable as he grabbed three bottles of root beer from the six-pack, popped their caps against the edge of the workbench, and handed them out. Riley took hers with her left foot, and Alex nodded in thanks as he accepted his.
Gus sat down on a stool, leaning on his cane with one hand while taking a swig from the bottle with the other. “I like you, kid,” he said after a moment, his tone still gruff but warm.
“Thank you, sir,” Alex said.
“Don’t ‘sir’ me. Makes me feel old,” Gus said, waving him off.
Riley laughed quietly, taking a sip of her root beer.
Gus’s tone turned serious as he looked at Alex. “Now, I’ll be straight with you. I ain’t got a lot of love for your old man. No offense to you, but i feel like he’s got a way of lookin’ at people like they’re nothin’ unless they fit some mold he’s got in his head.”
“None taken,” Alex said, his voice steady. “I don’t agree with him, either.”
Gus nodded, seemingly satisfied with the response. “Good. You seem like you’ve got a decent head on your shoulders. And you care about Riley, which is all that matters to me.”
“I do,” Alex said without hesitation, glancing at Riley, squeezing her foot gently. “A lot.”
Riley felt her heart skip a beat at the sincerity in his voice.
Gus tipped his bottle toward Alex. “Then you’ve got my blessing - so long as you treat her right. You don’t, and we’re gonna have a problem. Understood?”
“Understood,” Alex said with a small, nervous smile.
“Good,” Gus said, leaning back slightly and taking another swig. “Now, you two behave. And don’t forget to lock up before you head out.”
“Will do, Dad,” Riley said, her voice soft but grateful.
Gus gave Alex one last appraising look, then turned and limped out the way he came, leaving them alone again.
Alex exhaled a breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding. “Well, that wasn’t as terrifying as I thought it’d be.”
Riley laughed, leaning back into the couch. “Trust me, you passed. If he didn’t like you, he’d have made it very clear.”
Riley and Alex spent the rest of the evening chatting about anything and everything. They swapped work stories, teased each other a little, and shared dreams for the future, their words and laughter echoing through the quiet garage. The conversation flowed effortlessly, the kind that only happens when two people feel completely at ease with each other. Eventually, Alex glanced at his watch, realizing how late it had gotten.
"Oh, i should probably go home by now. I doubt dad cooled off, actually, but he'd be downright furious if i arrived home after midnight," Said Alex with apologetic smile. Also, i should catch some sleep, i promised Mr. Novak i'll cover Old Bob's saturday shift."
"He's taking a weekend off? That's unlike him." asked Riley, thinking of the old, friendly cook at Novak's Bar & Grill. "Hope he gets well soon, he made the best short ribs."
"Yeah, about that..." Sighed Alex. "Bob's not been feeling well recently. He said he wants to retire in few months and stepping down as the grill chef. And Mr. Novak offered me his position on a full time basis right after i graduate high school."
"Did you accept?" asked Riley, raising her eyebrow
"I'm tempted to, but... Dad wants me to go to a college..." Answered Alex with a heavy sigh.
"The real question is," Asked Riley, "Do you want to go to the college?"
"What do you mean?" asked Alex, confused.
"Exactly what i'm saying,", continued Riley, "What do you want to do for living? Do you actually want to be a lawyer?"
"I mean, it pays well..." Said Alex, looking down at the oil stained concrete floor.
"That's not the point and you know it," Said Riley, putting her foot on Alex's shoulder, looking him in the eyes with understanding smile. "Tell me. Do you enjoy cooking?"
"I do, but..." replies Alex, "Dad says it's a nice hobby, but terrible career choice."
"Oh screw your dad, honestly!" Raised Riley her voice, nudging Alex in the chest with a big toe, "I'm not asking about what he wants, i'm asking you."
"I mean..." Said Alex slowly, "I loved cooking since i was 12..."
"Are you good at it?" asked Riley, knowing the answer long before Alex's modesty allowed him to says it out loud.
"Yeah. Wouldn't be scheduled for a grill chef promotion otherwise, i guess..." said Alex with all honesty.
"Then go for it!" Said Riley triumphantly.
"But the college..." stuttered Alex.
"Chefs don't need a degree." Said Riley matter of factly. "Chefs need talent and a lot of practice. You have plenty of the former, but won't get the latter if you're wasting your time on some law school for next four years."
"Everybody needs a degree, it... gives you options" Said Alex, slowly realizing the mantra his father's been giving him his whole life wasn't as universally true as he was led to believe.
"Do i look to you like i need a goddamn degree, Alex?" asked Riley with a half smile.
"Well, that's different..." Muttered Alex. "I mean, you already have a carrer here at this garage..."
"And you have carrer at Novak's, so what's the difference?" Asked Riley. "And who says you can't open your own restaurant one day?"
"You know what? You're right. I'll tell Mr. Novak i'm taking his offer." Said Alex, feeling his own resolve building up, "The worse part will be telling my father. But that's a problem for tomorrow. Today's problem is getting home before midnight. I should really be going now. Good night, Riley." With a kiss, he sighed, turned around and left. Riley looked after him for a little while before she yawned, raising her left foot to cover her mouth. She then pressed a switch on the wall to close the garage door, turned off the lights and went home through the back entrance.
***
Next morning, the sun streamed through the open garage door, casting warm golden light onto the shop floor. Riley sat on a stool next to her Pacer, her left foot deftly guiding a ratchet wrench as she tightened bolts on the new headers. Gus sat nearby, sorting through a box of assorted small parts, music playing softly from an old radio perched on a shelf.
A shadow fell across the entrance, and Riley looked up to see Marianne Harper hesitating just inside the doorway, her hands clutching a small purse. Riley wiped her brow with the back of her foot and gave a cautious smile.
“Mrs. Harper,” she said, her tone polite but tinged with surprise. “What brings you here?”
Gus glanced up, sensing the conversation will flow more naturally without him around muttered something about needing to check on the fresh batch of bearing lube and quietly retreated into the back office.
Marianne stepped further inside, her expression unsure but determined. “Good morning, Riley. I hope I’m not interrupting.”
“Not at all,” Riley replied, setting the ratchet down and turning to face her. “What can I do for you?”
Marianne hesitated, glancing around the garage as if trying to gather her thoughts. “I... wanted to apologize,” she began. “For last night. For Richard.”
Riley raised an eyebrow but stayed quiet, letting Marianne continue.
“He can be... stubborn. Condescending even,” Marianne said, choosing her words carefully. “And he doesn’t always think before he speaks. But Alex... I mean, yesterday, after you two left our house together ,he came home a while later, but happier and more self assured than I’ve seen him in a long time. And I can see that’s because of you.”
Riley felt a warmth rise in her chest at the words but kept her expression measured. “Thank you, Mrs. Harper. That means a lot to me.”
Marianne smiled faintly, stepping closer. “Please, call me Marianne. I just wanted to—well, I thought it might be nice if we could get to know each other better. Is that okay?”
“Of course,” Riley said, gesturing toward a couple of stools near the workbench.
Marianne sat gingerly on one, smoothing her skirt as she did. Riley perched on the other, crossing one leg over the other casually.
Marianne fidgeted for a moment, then looked at Riley with a mix of curiosity and hesitation. “I hope you don’t mind me asking, but... how do you manage everything? The garage, day-to-day life—everything—without...” She trailed off, glancing meaningfully at Riley’s shoulders.
Riley blinked, then let out a short laugh. “Without arms, you mean?”
Marianne flushed. “I’m sorry, that was rude. I didn’t mean—”
“It’s fine,” Riley said, cutting her off gently. “You’re not the first person to ask, and you won’t be the last. The short answer is: practice. When you don't know anything else from the day you were born, you kinda don't think about it. You just do.”
Marianne nodded, her expression thoughtful. “It must have been difficult growing up.”
Riley shrugged, smiling faintly. “It had its moments. But my dad was always in my corner. He never treated me like I couldn’t do something - just made me figure out how to do it differently. That’s why I love working here. It’s where I feel most capable.”
Marianne’s gaze softened. “That’s remarkable. Alex said you rebuilt your car’s engine yourself. Is that true?”
“Yep,” Riley said, a note of pride in her voice. “Took me a couple of weeks, but I got it running like new. Well, unless i'm tinkering with it, likew now.”
Marianne smiled, but there was still a flicker of uncertainty in her eyes. She hesitated before asking, “Do you... ever worry about how people see you? I mean, being... different?”
Riley’s smile faltered for a moment, but she quickly recovered. “I used to. A lot. Especially in school. But I realized people’s opinions don’t change what I can do. If someone can’t see past this” - she shrugged her shoulders to emphasise her point- “then that’s their problem, not mine.”
Marianne nodded slowly. “I admire that. It’s not easy to have that kind of confidence.”
“It’s not always easy,” Riley admitted. “But I’ve got people in my corner. My dad and Alex, mostly... that makes a big difference.”
Marianne looked down at her hands, twisting the strap of her purse. “For what it’s worth, I think Alex is lucky to have you. I didn’t know what to think at first—not because of you, but because I want him to be happy and... protected.”
Riley tilted her head, understanding but firm. “I get that. But Alex isn’t a kid. He doesn’t need protecting—not from me, anyway. We’re partners. We look out for each other.”
Marianne looked up, her eyes meeting Riley’s. “I can see that now. And I’m sorry if I doubted you. I really am.”
Riley gave her a small, genuine smile. “Thank you, Marianne. That means a lot.”
Marianne smiled back, her earlier tension easing. “I hope we'll get to know each other better, Riley. And maybe... we can start fresh?”
“I’d like that,” Riley said with a smile.
Marianne stood, smoothing her skirt again. “I should let you get back to work. But thank you for taking the time to talk to me.”
“Anytime,” Riley said, standing as well and offering her foot for a handshake.
This time, Marianne did not hesitate before taking it, her grip firm but kind. “Have a good day, Riley,” she said as she turned to leave.
“You too, Marianne.” Smiled Riley.
***
Later that day, Riley was underneath the lifted frame of an old Ford pickup, deftly tightening bolts with a socket wrench clamped between her toes. Gus sat nearby on a rolling stool, rubbing his knee absently while examining a part catalog.
The sound of screeching tires tore through the calm, followed by the slam of a car door. Gus looked up, brow furrowed, as heavy footsteps echoed on the concrete. Richard Harper stormed in, his face twisted in fury, his gaze locking onto Riley.
“You!” he bellowed, pointing a shaking finger. “What have you done!?”
Riley scooted out from under the truck, wiping her feet on a piece of rag, her brown eyes narrowing at his tone. “Swapped my headers and started working on this car's suspension,” she said evenly, standing tall. “Why?”
“Don’t play dumb with me,” Richard snarled, his voice booming. “You’ve been filling Alex's head with nonsense! Talking him out of college to stay a cook like some—some no-good dirty drop out.”
Gus began to rise, but Riley held up her foot to stop him. “Mr. Harper, I didn’t fill Alex’s head with anything,” she said firmly. “I supported his decision. He made it on his own. He’s eighteen. That’s his right.”
Richard’s face reddened, his jaw tightening. “Supported his decision? To throw away his future for - what? Flipping burgers?” He sneered. “You’re dragging him down, you selfish, worthless...”
“Careful,” Gus growled, his voice like a low rumble of thunder.
But Richard ignored him, taking a step closer to Riley, his hand slashing the air between them. “...worthless armless bitch, and you’ve got no damn right to...”
The crack of Gus’s cane against the floor silenced him. Gus was up, moving faster than Riley had ever seen him, his cane abandoned behind as he closed the distance in an instant. Before Richard could react, Gus’s fist connected with his jaw in a single, sharp motion, sending the younger man sprawling to the concrete floor.
Riley froze, her mouth slightly open in shock She never saw her father this angry before. He could be strict and grumpy at times, but this time, he was genuinely furious. Richard sat on the ground, dazed, rubbing his chin, his fury momentarily replaced by confusion.
“You listen to me, you self centered little prick,” Gus said, his voice low and full of steel, standing tall over Richard with his broad shoulders squared. “I don’t give a damn who you are or how much you think the world revolves around you. You don’t come storming into my shop, shouting at my daughter, and throwing slurs around like you’re God Almighty.”
Richard scowled, attempting to push himself up, but Gus pointed a warning finger at him, halting his movements. “No. You’re gonna sit there and listen, you sonofabitch.”
Gus took a step closer, towering over him. “You’re angry because Alex wants to cook? Fine. That’s between you and him. But let me tell you something. Your son’s a good kid—kind, talented, and smart as hell. He’s the kind of son any father ought to be proud to have. And if you can’t see that, then I pity you. Frankly, it’s a damn miracle he turned out the way he did, growing up with such a bitter, small-minded asshole of a father like you.”
Richard’s jaw tightened, but Gus didn’t give him a chance to speak. “As for Riley?” Gus gestured toward her without breaking his gaze. “This girl has more grit and heart than you’ll ever understand. She’s built a life with her bare feet most men with ten fingers couldn’t even begin to comprehend. And she’s done it while putting up with people like you, who can’t see past their own god damn noses.”
Gus’s voice softened slightly, though his eyes remained hard. “You’re not gonna win your son back by tearing others down, Richard. You’re just gonna push him farther away. If you care about him at all, you’ll stop and think before you lose him for good.”
Richard sat there in stunned silence, his hand still on his jaw. The garage was deathly quiet, save for the faint hum of compressor in the back.
After a long pause, Gus straightened, grabbing his cane. He winced as he shifted his weight onto it, clearly feeling the strain of his actions. “Now, get out of my shop,” he said quietly but firmly. “And don’t come back unless you’ve got an apology on your tongue.”
Richard glanced at Riley, whose expression was a mixture of defiance and quiet pride. Without a word, he scrambled to his feet, dusted himself off, and stormed out, his footsteps fading into the distance.
As soon as the sound of Richard’s car disappeared, Riley let out a low whistle. “Well, i'll be damned dad. Never saw you this worked up before.”
Gus sank back onto his stool, shaking his head. “Damn knee’s gonna make me pay for that tomorrow. But it was so worth it."
Riley crouched next to him, her grin wide despite the lingering tension. “You didn’t have to do that.”
Gus looked at her, his weathered face softening into a small smile. “The hell I didn’t. Nobody talks to you like that, kid. Not in my shop. Not ever.”
Riley’s chest swelled with emotion, and she gave him a playful nudge with her foot. “You’re gonna make me cry, old man.”
“Save it for someone else,” Gus muttered, though his smile lingered. “Now get back to work before I remember what I pay you.”
Riley laughed and got back under the truck, feeling a renewed sense of gratitude for the man who’d raised her.
***
Just as Riley had settled back under the truck and Gus resumed thumbing through his catalog, the screech of tires in the gravel driveway pulled their attention back to the open garage doors. A familiar old sedan pulled up, and Alex stepped out, his face tight with worry. He hurried inside, looking between Riley and Gus like he was bracing for the worst.
“Is everything okay?” Alex asked, his voice tinged with panic. “Dad stormed out of the house, and I just knew he’d—” He stopped abruptly, noticing the bruise forming on Gus’s knuckles and Riley casually sliding out from under the truck.
Riley tilted her head, a sly grin on her face. “Your dad stopped by. We had... a chat.”
Alex’s shoulders sagged, his face flooding with guilt. “I’m so sorry. I... God, I knew he’d do something like this. I should’ve said something, or stopped him...”
Riley held up a foot to cut him off, the movement as firm as her tone. “Alex, stop. You’re not responsible for what your father does. You don’t need to apologize for him.”
“But—” Alex started, his hands gesturing helplessly.
“She’s right,” Gus interjected, his gruff voice commanding attention. He stood up from his stool, leaning on his cane as he approached Alex. “Your dad’s got his own damn issues. That’s on him, not you. You’re a good kid, Alex. Don’t let him make you feel otherwise.”
Alex hesitated, glancing between them, then nodded, though the guilt still lingered in his eyes. “What did he even say?”
Riley shrugged nonchalantly, though her tone carried a hint of sharpness. “Oh, the usual: How I’m ‘ruining your future,’ and how I’m a ‘worthless armless bi-’”
“Riley!” Alex interrupted, his face darkening with anger and embarrassment. “He actually said that?”
“Doesn’t matter what he said,” Gus cut in, his tone resolute. “What matters is, he was wrong. And I told him so. Now, let’s change the subject before my blood pressure gets any worse.”
Riley smirked. “Fine by me.” She looked pointedly at Alex, her expression softening. “So... how’d the promotion talk go?”
Alex hesitated, clearly still upset about his father’s behavior, but Gus gave him an encouraging nod. “Go on, kid. Let’s hear it.”
Alex took a deep breath, visibly shifting gears. “It went... really well, actually. Mr. Novak said i can start training under Old Bob. Said if I do well, I could make station chef in a couple years.”
Gus whistled, impressed. “Not bad, kid. Not bad at all. And you’re gonna take it?”
Alex nodded, but his enthusiasm was tinged with uncertainty. “Yeah, I think so. I mean, it’s what I love doing, but... it’s not exactly the kind of career people get excited about. My dad sure doesn’t think much of it.”
Gus snorted, waving his hand dismissively. “Your dad doesn’t think much of anything that doesn’t fit the neat little box in his head. But let me tell you something, Alex: Life’s too damn short to spend it doing something you hate. You’re good at cooking, right?”
“Yeah,” Alex said, his voice steadying. “I think I’m pretty good.”
“Then do it,” Gus said firmly. “Find a way to make it work. You’ve got a talent for it, and you love it. Doesn’t matter if it’s not the highest-paying job in the world. A joyless, high-paying career isn’t worth much if you’re miserable every day. Trust me, I’ve seen it.”
Alex blinked, taking in Gus’s words, and a small smile began to spread across his face. “Thanks, mister Greaves. That... actually means a lot.”
Gus grunted, brushing off the sentiment with a wave of his hand. “Just don’t let anyone - including your old man - make you doubt yourself. You’ve got what it takes, kid. You’ll do fine.”
Riley grinned, leaning casually against the truck. “See? Told you.”
Alex smiled, the tension finally breaking. “I should probably go now, my shift starts in 15 minutes. I'm just glad you're okay. By the way, dinner’s on me tonight - drop by Novak's, both of you. I owe you big time.”
“Deal,” Riley said, her grin widening.
As Alex turned to leave, Gus called after him. “And hey, kid.”
Alex paused at the door, looking back.
“Next time your dad comes around acting like a fool, let me deal with him. I’ve got a good punch left in me yet.”
Alex chuckled, the weight on his shoulders lifting just a bit more. “I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks, mister Greaves. For everything.”
Gus just waved him off, his expression softening as Alex disappeared down the driveway. Riley watched him go, her heart full, then turned back to her work, knowing she had the support of the two best men in her life.
The cozy atmosphere of Novak’s Bar & Grill welcomed Gus and Riley as they stepped inside. It was a quaint place, filled with the scent of sizzling meats and freshly baked bread. The hum of conversation and clinking silverware mixed with soft background music, creating an inviting din. A friendly hostess seated them at a booth near the open kitchen, where Riley could already spot Alex through the pass, his focus unwavering as he worked the grill alongside Old Bob, a friendly-looking, dark skinned, obese man in his sixties.
Gus settled into the booth with a groan, leaning his cane against the table. “Been a while since i was here. We used to go a lot with your mother, bud since she passed away, i stopped going out to eat,” he reminisced as hew smiled with a hint of sadness, scanning the menu.
Riley smirked, her eyes following Alex as he plated a dish with quick precision. “Did it change here a lot since then?.”
Gus snorted, though there was a twinkle of amusement in his eye. “Honestly? Not much. Just Old Bob got a lot thicker. And older. we used to call him Big Bob back then. Word is, he used to be the rising star in the high school football team before he busted his leg. That was like a year before i started my freshman year, but among the football guys, he was a legend for years to come.”
A server arrived to take their order, and Gus went for the house special: a juicy ribeye steak with garlic mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. Riley, after much deliberation, opted for a hearty burger topped with caramelized onions, cheddar, and a tangy house sauce.
***
The food arrived promptly, and the first bite left them both impressed. Gus nodded in approval, savoring the steak perfect medium rare, while Riley enjoyed her burger.
“Kid’s got talent,” Gus admitted between bites. “If he had anything to do with this, he’s got my stamp of approval.”
Riley chuckled, her eyes twinkling. “Guess I picked a good one, huh?”
“Not bad, not bad,” Gus said with mock seriousness. “But he has some big shoes to fill. Big Bob maybe didn't have the raw talent like Alex, but 45 years of experience more than make up for it.”
Riley laughed. She knew Alex wasn't one to back out from a challenge, especially in something hew loved doing.
As they finished their meals, Alex emerged from the kitchen, wiping his hands on a towel tucked into his apron. His face lit up when he saw them.
“Hey, glad you both came! I see you just finished,” he said, a little breathless but smiling. “So, honest opinions—how was it?”
“Best steak I’ve had in years,” Gus said immediately, gesturing with his fork. “Cooked to perfection, and the seasoning? Just right.”
Riley grinned at Alex. “That burger? Amazing. You’ve got a real knack for this.”
Alex blushed, clearly pleased but trying to play it cool. “Well, technically, Old Bob still cooked the steak and the burger. I just prepped most of it and helped with the plating.”
“Doesn’t matter,” Gus said firmly. “You’re learning from him, and it shows. Don’t downplay your part in this.”
Alex smiled, his confidence bolstered. “Thanks, mr. Greaves. That means a lot. And Riley... glad you liked it.”
Riley tilted her head, a teasing smile playing on her lips. “Liked it? I’m thinking of coming back tomorrow for seconds.”
Alex laughed, and Old Bob's deep voice called his name from the kitchen. “Duty calls,” Alex said, glancing back. “Thanks for coming, you two. I’ll catch up with you later.”
As Alex disappeared back into the kitchen, Gus leaned back in the booth, a satisfied grin on his face. “Kid’s gonna do just fine here.”
***
The buzzing of a tattoo gun filled the air as Riley sat in the chair at Ink & Iron, a small but reputable tattoo shop downtown. The walls were lined with flash art and framed photos of grinning clients showing off their fresh ink. Riley’s bare shoulders gleamed under the bright overhead light.
Alex sat next to her, holding her foot. “You sure you’re okay?” he asked, his voice filled with concern and a hint of admiration.
Riley glanced at him, her lips twitching into a smirk. “You’ve asked me that five times already. I’m fine, honey.”
“Just making sure,” he said, his expression softening. “You know I think this is awesome, right? ”
The tattoo artist, a friendly woman named Megan with brightly dyed blue hair, chuckled as she worked on the delicate sunflower design. “You two are adorable,” she said, pausing briefly to wipe away excess ink. “And for the record, Riley’s been a champ. Barely even flinched.”
“Told you I could handle it,” Riley said, her voice light but her tone carrying a note of pride. She glanced down at the design taking shape on her shoulder. The petals of the sunflower stretched gracefully across her shoulder, covering the spot where an arm would otherwise begin. “I’ve been thinking about this for months now, but it never felt like the right time. Now, though…” She trailed off, her brown eyes sparkling as she looked at Alex. “I’m ready.”
Alex leaned back, a soft smile spreading across his face. “I think it’s perfect. You’re turning what some people see as a weakness into strength. Something beautiful.”
Riley’s smirk softened into a warm smile. “I guess it took me a while to work up my courage to finally do this. And you've got a lot to do with that.”
Alex blushed, scratching the back of his neck. “All I did was remind you of how you did the same for me just a week ago.”
Megan looked up, grinning. “Okay, lovebirds, I’m almost done here. Ready for the big reveal?”
Riley took a deep breath, nodding. “Sure. Let’s see it.”
Megan swiveled the chair slightly and held up a hand mirror. Riley craned her neck, her eyes locking onto the vibrant yellow sunflowers blooming on both shoulders. They looked like they belonged there, like they’d always been a part of her.
“Wow,” she breathed, her voice tinged with awe. “It’s... perfect.”
Alex stood, stepping closer to get a better look. “It really is.”
Riley turned her gaze to him, her smile widening. “Thanks for coming with me. I don’t think I’d have done this without you.”
Alex shook his head. “My pleasure. It was the least i could do after you helped me build up the guts to say no to my dad.”
Riley laughed and grinned. “Couldn't see a great cook wasted on some lousy law school.”
“Fair,” Alex said with a grin, stepping back to let Megan clean and cover the fresh tattoos. “But seriously. Thank you. For everything.”
As they left Ink & Iron together, Riley felt more confident than ever before. Her shoulders, once a source of insecurity and stark reminder of being different, now carried a bold declaration of her resilience, her uniqueness, and her unwavering strength. And with Alex at her side, she knew she could face any challenge the life can throw at her.
Im not updating my game Thank you @darkurgediaries for recording all the kisses. Reasons below the cut for my decision: Don't open if you don't want to hear my opinions its fine, you guys can scroll past it no problem.
Ill be honest I hate ascended Astarions kisses besides the 3rd one. the 3rd is the ONLY one I like out of them. I do like the lip bite in the one kiss but I have issues with the kisses overall.
Im not going to get too into it bc I just went on a huge discord rant in dms to some friends about it and sent feedback to larian about it. If you like it, thats great for everyone else but I'm going to stay here on patch 5 until either modders change it or larian themselves do because im tired of feeling shoehorned into good paths if I dont want to feel punished as a player.
And thats how I feel. I feel like with the bhaalist durge ending and now with ascended Astarions kisses that the players are being punished. Thats my personal feelings on the matter and it leave a bitter taste in my mouth and just makes me so goddamned disappointed and let down. On the knees: My issue with this one is his cold facial expressions + tav / durges scared ones + the fact this is not appropriate in many settings especially in public. The expressions make this look ABUSIVE not consensual. It appears cold hearted and distant.
Lip bite kiss: I like the lip bite, its nice. However the way he shoves her face away lowkey looks like hes slapping her. Again it makes it appear abusive and cold hearted.
Karlach's old kiss turned a A!A kiss: This one I actually like but I would like if it was tied to if you chose him to be rough or gentle when being turned and this be an option for if you chose rough.
The reason all of this bothers me: To me it feels out of character The game always emphasized choices. Even on ascended path you could choose what you both would do. hes never been portrayed as abusive. Manipulative and toxic yes. But not abusive. He does love you but these animations do not show it.
In the ending if you manage to get to the end without long resting he LETS YOU GO. he doesn't force you to stay if you break up with him he respects your decision. Likewise he wont force you to become his spawn and is willing to wait until YOU are ready. This shows he respects choice and autonomy
During the scene when he turns you, you can CHOOSE for him to be gentle or rough and he'll comply. AGAIN respects choice and autonomy. These kisses do NOT feel like its respecting your autonomy in any way shape or form with the expressions and rough actions. It doesn't feel consensual because of the expressions and how forceful it is. And im someone whos kinky af and I DO like dominant men but this does not feel like a dom / sub, this does not feel like we're his consort. It doesn't even feel like we're a pet like some people like to justify it as.
These kisses feel like our choices didn't matter. Like it didn't matter what our character wanted or what we as players wanted. Because if we chose for him to be gentle, now hes being rough and our characters DO NOT look like they are consenting.
How do I suggest Larian fixes it?
I get theres people who WILL like these kisses, and im not shaming you or saying its wrong if you do. My suggestions are as follow
Fix the expressions so tav / durge looks more into it and give Astarion a more passionate / loving expression thats less cold
Make the face push less forceful or change the expressions
Make it so your choices on what im dubbing "bite night" matters, if you choose for him to be gentle have kisses different to these ones that are still dominant still possessive but more romantic, passionate and a bit gentler. Think the butt grab kiss something on that line of forcefulness. no grabbing the neck, no pushing the face, no forcing you on your knees if you chose gentle.
likewise if you chose rough have THESE animations, the ones im talking about in this post as the animations for that choice.
Everyone would be kept happy without sacrificing their "Vision" for the game or without screwing another group of fans over.
If you feel the same way send feedback here
A Friend
A small gift for Nicole. I actually wrote this before your birthday sooo... don't mind me.
Nicole-@lovelygirlnicole15 Kai-me
---------------------------------------------------------
It’s a beautiful day today, people in the Toppat Airship, people are most likely on their tasks or guard. One toppat member, the most precious member of all Toppay, was helping other Toppat members with their tasks. And her name is Nicole. Nicole was found by one of the Toppat members and got adopted when she was young. Nicole was now eating her breakfast, kinda bored. Suddenly, the alarm went off.
"ATTENTION TO ALL TOPPATS. WE ARE UNDER ATTACK BY THE GOVERNMENTS. GET INTO AN ESCAPE POT RIGHT NOW OR GET YOUR WEAPONS AND FIGHT!!!"
Nicole is shocked. Did the government find them? She then saw everyone run to grab a weapon or go to an escape pot. Reginald run up to her. "Nicole! Go to an escape pot and get out of here!"
"But-"
"No, But!! This is an order and I want you to follow it!" Nicole was then pushed into an escape pot with three other Toppats. The escape pot door closed and it takes off. Once the escape pot landed, the door open.
"I think we're safe for now." One of the Toppat said. Nicole looks around and watches her family, the one that cares about her, being taken down by governments. "OVER HERE!!!" The four of them hide behind the escape pot. "RISE YOUR HANDS, TOPPATS!! YOU'RE UNDER ARREST!!!"
Nicole and three others continue to hide until one of the Toppat uses the escape pot seat for the shield. "RUN!!!" All four of them run while the soldiers shoot. Three Toppats were down, leaving Nicole all alone, and running into a forest. Two soldiers were left to arrest the Toppats while the other two chased after Nicole.
Nicole keeps running and running, and even though her legs tell her to stop, she still keeps running deeper into the forest. One of the soldiers fired and shot her in the shoulder. Nicole yelled in pain and fell onto the ground with specks of dirt and grass. She sits up and holds onto her shoulder in pain. "You're Under Arrest, Toppat!" Both soldiers point their guns at Nicole and before the soldier can touch her, there's a move in a bush. All three of them turn to the bush in confusion. "You got check while I keep an eye on her."
One of the soldiers gets closer and takes a peek before they scream and fall onto the ground in fear. A giant black bear came out of the bush and roared. The soldier near Nicole points his gun at the bear and fires. Something blocks the bullet as the bear roars again. Both soldiers and Nicole were scared, scared enough for the soldiers to run away.
"When I say scared them, I didn't mean to scare them enough to run..." Nicole heard an unfamiliar voice and led against the tree. "There's one more?" A girl appeared out of nowhere, making Nicole scream. She hit her with something, making her pass out.
----------------------------------
Nicole woke up again and this time, they were tied into a chair. "What...?"
"You're awake..." Nicole turned to the voice and was in fear. The girl came out of the shadow and looked at Nicole.
Tumblr media
"What are you doing in my forest..." Nicole was scared but she still spoke to this stranger. "I-I... My family was been taken down and I escaped..." A bird lands on the lady's shoulder and tweets. She nods and walks up to Nicole, taking out a knife. Nicole's eyes widen. *P-please don’t hurt me…” The lady didn’t listen as she continued to walk towards her. Nicole closed her eyes and... she felt the rope getting cut. Nicole stands up and notices a bandage on her shoulder, where she's being shot.
"Go to see if this 'Toppat Clan' is taken down, please." The bird tweets and she rolls her eyes. "Fine... I will give you extra seeds... now shoot shoot..." The bird flies out the window and flies away. Nicole stares at the bandage around her should and looks back at the lady. "Did you... bandage this...?"
The lady rolled her eyes. "I was forced to." Nicole was confused. "Force by who? There's no one here other than us two..." She sighs. "I was forced by those guys. They can't stop yelling at me." She points to the birds and some other animals out the window. Nicole got excited. "You can talk to animals?!" The lady nods. "That's so cool! What do they mostly talk about?"
"All they did is chat and chat and chat over and over again."
Nicole didn't say anything else. "Um... What's your name?"
"...Kai..."
"No last name?"
"No. Just Kai..."
"I like that name." Kai didn't say anything but smiled. "Maybe you're not like them after all..." Nicole got confused. "What do you mean by that?"
"It's nothing..."
The bird that flew out came back and landed on Kai's shoulder before tweeting something. Kai looks at Nicole. "So we have a piece of good news and a piece of bad news... actually, they are all bad news." Nicole starts to get nervous. "What is the bad news...?" Nicole is afraid to ask, but she has to find out what happened to her family.
"The bad news is... Most of the Toppat Clan were captured and some of them survived. So I'm guessing most of the Toppat were at the government base." Nicole was shocked. She doesn't know what to do anymore. Kai took off her hat and put it on the hanger and did the same with her cape. She gives some seeds to the bird on her shoulder. The bird takes the seeds and flies away. Kai looks at Nicole.
"Is there anything we can do?" Nicole asks Kai. Kai didn't say anything and sipped some tea. "Sorry, I don't want to get involved with something that's not my problem," Nicole starts to tear up. "Please, they are the only family I have! Please!!" At this point, Nicole was begging Kai to help her. Kai groans. One of the parrots came to Kai and landed on the chair before started to tweet. Kai groans again, stands up, puts on her hat and cape, and takes her staff, before starts heading out. "Where are you going?" Nicole ask.
"Two people were in my forest again. I'm gonna scare them away." Kai answered. Nicole stood up. "Can-"
"No, you stay here."
"But-"
"No buts. You might get lost. And who knows what you are gonna do when I let you escape." Kai opens the door and before she can head out, Nicole grabs her cape. "Please! What if I know those two? I promise I won't do anything!" Nicole did puppy eyes, making Kai groan. "Fine. But if I notice you run away from me, you're the next person on my dead list." Nicole nods.
--------------------------------
Kai and Nicole were walking when a baby deer came to Nicole and put its head on Nicole's hand. "By the way, I never ask you this, why do you decide to live in the forest?"
"My mother is a witch and people were hunting her down. She lives in this forest, making this forest my home. And, I need to protect all those animals. You see that baby bear over there?” Kai used her staff to point at a playful and curious baby bear. Nicole nods. “His mother died somehow and I found her body in a body of ocean water. There’s a stick on her neck, so I’m guessing someone killed her.”
Nicole feels bad. A baby lost its mother? That didn’t sound good. "Get down." Nicole gets down on kneels. She heard some talking and listen. That voice sounds a bit familiar. Nicole turns to Kai but she's already gone. Kai was slowly walking towards them while Nicole listened to those voices... wait... It's Sven and Burt! Oh boy...
"AHHHHHHHH WHAT IS THAT?!?" Sven jumped right into Burt's arm. "Kai! Wait! I know those two!" Kai turns to Nicole and watches the two of them. "You knows those two?"
Nicole nods. "NICOLE! WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT?! WHO'S SHE?!" Sven asked, still in Burt's arm.
-------------------------------------
"So, let me get this straight. Your name is Kia, you're the protector of this forest and you're a witch?" Sven asks, wanting to make sure. Kai nods. "...This is so much to take in."
Kai rolled her eyes. "Um... Who else is still alive?" Nicole asked. Burt, who had been quiet for a while, had finally spoken. "Most of them were captured. All the Toppat members were at the government base."
"Is there anything we can help?" Nicole ask. Sven and Burt look at each other and slowly look at Kai. Kai noticed what they were thinking. "No, Nope. Absolutely not. I am not helping you guys." Sven then sighs. "Then we can't do anything to help." Three Toppat members sigh. Kai heads out to get some fresh air. Nicole follows her.
The two of them sit down under a tree. Everything is so peaceful. Nicole was about to open her mouth but Kai raised her finger. "Before you ask again, no. I will not help. you can't force me."
"... But... please... you're the only person I knew that can help us."
"What do I get in return?" Nicole thinks for a while. "You can join the Toppat Clan and we will give you a good life!"
"No. No, thank you. Anything else?"
"Um..."
"Ok," Kai stood up and walked away. A parrot lands on Nicole. "She is really stubborn..." Nicole sigh. "Can you blame her? She loses her mother." Nicole flinched as the parrot talked to her. "Can I talk to the animal now?!" The parrot laughs. "No, kiddo. You can't. I could talk to humans just fine." Nicole seems disappointed that she can't talk to animals. "The reason why Kai won't help you guys is because of trust. Trust is a strong word, kid. Not as strong as hate but still strong."
"So... what actually happened to her mother?" Nicole ask. The parrot begins to explain. "Let's just say that she and her mother trust someone too much and end up getting her mother killed. And I think his name is Terrence." Nicole's eyes widen. "Terrence? As in Terrence Suave?" The parrot nods. This actually makes so much sense.
"Is there any way we can let her help us?" The parrot thinks a bit and nods. "There's actually is. if you help Kai to found something that belongs to her mother, then she might help you."
"And what is the object?" Nicole asked. "A ring."
"A ring?"
"Yes. It has been missing since she died. And it's somewhere in this forest." Nicole's jaw dropped. In this forest?! This giant forest?! How are they gonna find that ring in the middle of the forest?!"
"I don't know. You find it and they will help you." And the parrot flies away. Nicole groans and stands up, deciding to get Sven and Burt to help her. She got into the house and explained it to them. "A small ring, in the MIDDLE OF THE FOREST?! There's NO WAY WE CAN FIND THAT!!!" Sven yelled. "I know, but we still have to try! It's the only way she could help us!" Sven groans. "We can try." Burt joined the searching team. "Burt, I love you and all but do you have any idea, what that ring looks like?!"
"The parrot I talk to can help us." Sven Groans again. "Fine.."
----------------------------------------
They had been searching, for almost 3 HOURS!! "Where is that freaking thing?! How did she lose it in the first place?!" Sven complains.
"Sven, stop complaining and just try to find it. I think we've almost found it. I could feel it!" Nicole says with determination in their eyes. "That's what you said a few minutes ago." Nicole's sweat drops. Burt saw something and found a ring box. "Guys. I found something."
Sven and Nicole gathered around Burt and saw him find a ring box. "Do you think this is it?" Nicole asked. "It better is. I'm not gonna find any longer." Burt opened the ring box and saw a small note. He opens the note and reads it out loud. "'Congratulations... You three have completed the test'. What do this suppose to mean?"
"It means I can trust you guys." The three Toppat members jumped and turned to Kia. Sven seems to put the puzzle together. "Wait, all the ring missing thing is just a test?!?" Kai nods. Sven seems like he's gonna yell in rage. "But... what does this actually mean? Did your mother actually die?" Kai jumped down from the tree and the parrot Nicole talked to landed on her shoulder. "Yes. My mother actually dies but not from Terrence Suave, whoever that is. She died in an old age. I just have trust issues."
"Does that mean you agree to help us?!"
"Yes." Nicole is so happy that Kai is gonna help them! "Let's Go!!!"
---------------------------------------
Kai, Nicole, Sven, and Burt sneak into the government base and decide to look for the captured Toppats The four of them hide in the shadows, and don't want to get caught. "Have we even thought of a plan yet?" Sven whispers. Kai glares at him as a little sparrow lands on her witch hat. "Your friends are locked in the middle of the camp. There were like, ten soldiers guarding there."
"How do we sneak past all of them?" Nicole ask. Kai hums and asks the three of them to wait here. Kai whispers something and her eyes change into aqua green color and her physical form turns into a little bug and flies away. Kai flies to the middle of the camp and went in.
Reginald, the leader of the Toppat clan, was sitting next to his husband. Most of the Toppat members who are captured are here in the camp. Kai (Still as a fly) looks around, notices no guard is in here, and changes back to her physical form, shocking almost everyone here. "What- MMM!!!" Kai covered Reginald's mouth, don't want him to make any noises. "Shush... I'm here to break you out."
"And who the hell are you?" RHM asked. "I'm here to break all of you guys out." Kai raises her staff and makes a portal. Nicole, Sven, and Burt were on the other side of the portal. "Talk later, come on." Every Toppat member went into the portal. The soldiers outside notice something is off and go into the tent to find out all the Toppat members are gone. "TELL THE GENERAL!!!"
Kai and every Toppat member run away from the government camp and into Kai's forest. If the governments are smart, they won't go into a forest that 'eats' people. Everyone stops and takes a break. Reginald went up to Kai. "Thank you so much for breaking us out. I might say, you are the first to break us out without any harm. May I ask for your name?"
Nah, I will rather keep my name a secret-"
"Kai is her name!" Nicole jumped in. Kai glares at Nicole and wants her to shut up. "Kai... that's a nice name. Are you interested in joining the Toppat Clan?" Reginald asked, which Kai refused. "No thank you. I would rather stay in this forest. "
"Why? The Toppat Clan is much more comfortable than here."
"Because this forest is my home. I grow up here." Reginald didn't say anything and smiled. "Nyeh. I get your point and I understand. Here's my number. We Toppat Clan owe you a big one. If you are in any trouble, call us anytime." Kai takes the number and nods. All the Toppat member begin to head to one of their hidden headquarters. Kai walks up to Nicole and hands her a vial. Inside was a yellow liquid. "If you are in trouble again, just break the vial and a portal will open and it will lead right to my house. As a gift for our friendship."
Nicole looks at the vials and smiles. "Thanks. I will keep it in mind."
"NICOLE!!! COME ON!!!" RHM yelled.
"COMING!!! I will see you soon, then." Nicole begins to follow the Toppat members, stops, and turns to hug the witch. "Thank you again for saving my family. It means a lot to me." Kai smiles and pats her back. "yeah, yeah. Just go. They are waiting for you." Nicole lets go and waves good bye. She looks at the vial Kai gives her and puts it away. Today wasn't that bad after all.
Her Song part 18
"Hey," I greet with a smile after I pull open the door. "Come in."
"Is the little booger still in bed?" Florence asks, looking around the living room for Syd.
"No," I say, laughing at the nickname. "She's still in bed. I'll go wake her up."
"No, no. Let her sleep a little longer. We've got time."
"Okay," I smile. "Have a seat. Tell me about these photoshoots."
We sit down on the couch and she hands me a cup of coffee. "It's no big deal. Just something for Vogue and-"
"Vogue?  You think Vogue is no big deal? Florence, that's insane," I laugh. "For the record, I think you'd look pretty damn good on the cover of Vogue."
"I never said I was going to be on the cover," she counters.
"Well I'm gonna be pissed if you're not. You deserve it."
"Thank you." Our conversation comes to a pause as we just look at each other with tired eyes and bashful smiles. "Oh my god," Florence says suddenly. "I just realized that I brought you coffee and bagels and you literally own a coffee shop. That was supposed to be way more special."
"Flo, the fact that you cared enough to bring me coffee and bagels is all that matters. That makes it more special than you could possibly imagine. Stop being a dork," I laugh.
"So is Syd okay?"
"Honestly, I don't know. I'm trying to get her into the doctor's office for a check-up but-"
I'm cut off by my phone going off and I pick it up to check the lock screen, which is a picture of Syd attempting to play my guitar.
Dad: The flight is landing soon. See you and peanut at eleven!
"Oh, shit," I exclaim.
"What's wrong?"
"My dad is coming today. Crap, I totally forgot I have to pick him up. I can't deal with this right now," I sigh, running my hands over my face.
"Hey, everything will be fine," Flo comforts me, running her hand over my back. "I know family can be stressful, but you can handle it. And if you can't, then you can call me or Scarlett or Lizzie and we'll come rescue you. And by now I know that Ash always has your back."
"Thank you, Flo. I appreciate it. There's just a lot of history tied to him and everything back home, and as bad as it is, I just wish I could leave it all behind. When I see him, the only thing I can think of is being disowned by a whole damn town."
"I'm so sorry, Y/N. You wanna run away? If we leave now, I bet we can make it out of New York before his flight lands," she jokes with a smirk.
"As amazing as that sounds, I don't think that would be very responsible parenting."
"Hey, what time will he be at the airport? Maybe we can ride together."
"His flight lands at eleven. Are you sure? I don't wanna mess up your plans or anything."
"Darling, you're always welcome to mess up my plans. I'll have my driver bring my bags and meet us at the airport. If that's alright with you, of course?"
"Yeah, yes, that's more than okay with me."
"Okay. Cool."
"Cool."
Our idiotic smiling is cut off by the pattering of small feet coming down the hall. "Momma? Who are you talking to?" Syd asks as she enters the living room.
"Florence is here, honey. You wanna say hi?"
She approaches the couch and climbs up, sitting on my lap. She waves to Florence before pulling her blanket around her shoulders. "Hi, Florence. I puked in my bed."
"Syd, she doesn't need to know that," I sigh, shaking my head.
"Well I brought magical bagels that will make you feel better," Florence tells her in a whisper, like it's some big secret.
"Bagels?" Syd asks cutely, her interest now piqued. "With cream cheese?"
"Of course with cream cheese! What kind of monster would I be if I didn't bring cream cheese?"
~
"Text me when your flight lands, okay?"
"The second I land. I swear it."
We're standing in the middle of the airport, saying goodbye before we part ways. Florence is wearing a low hat in an attempt to disguise herself, and she looks utterly adorable.
"Good luck with your photoshoot," I say.
"Good luck with your father." There's an awkward moment of silence, both of us wanting to hug goodbye but knowing we can't in public. Stupid, stupid boyfriends. She offers a small wave before turning around and walking towards her gate.
I walk back out of the airport holding Syd's hand to keep her close. We move the car to the front and wait for my dad to come. Within a few minutes, he's walking through the doors.
"Grandpa! Over here!" Syd yells. He looks over with a big smile on his face as he approaches the car.
"Hey, peanut," he greets her, picking her up and spinning her in a giant hug.
"Hey, sweetheart," he addresses me.
"Hi, Dad. How was the flight?"
"It was alright. I like your car."
"Yeah, thanks." That ends our conversation. We don't hug. I've distanced myself from him and he knows it, but we both know that it's his and my mother's fault.
The drive home is spent in silence, except for the few times Syd pipes up with a random fact from the backseat.
When we get to the apartment, Dad looks around with a seemingly proud look on his face. This is the first time he's been to this apartment. He's only been to the shitbox we used to live in.
"You've done well for yourself, Y/N. I'm proud of you," he says, low enough that Syd can't hear.
"Yeah, well, I didn't exactly have much of a choice, did I?"
A grimace crosses his face, and I briefly regret saying it. But he's lucky I'm even letting him around his granddaughter after the shit he and Mom pulled.
"You have no idea how sorry I am, Y/N-"
"It's fine, Dad. Let's just drop it. You're probably hungry. I'll cook some lunch."
He agrees, and I move to the kitchen. I put on some music as I cook and listen to the faint sounds of Sydney playing with my dad. At least she has one grandparent, even if it's rocky. That's the only reason I haven't cut off contact with him. Or maybe I'm just overreacting. Maybe I was the one in the wrong.
~
You were never even wrong in the first place, right?
Yeah, I'ma just ignore you.
Walkin' towards you with my head down
Lookin' at the ground, I'm embarassed for you
Paranoia, what did I do wrong this time?
That's parents for you.
Very loyal? Shoulda had my back
But you put a knife in it
the shepherd prince
chapter two: a normal night
chapter 1
chapter omega
characters pronouns: misk (she/her), enfys(she/he/they), ether(all pronouns)
misks appearance: she's black, almost all grey hair tied into a loose ponytail with a short scarf, her clothing is all full of red and gold, some golden rings on her wrists.
"hey uh mom we have a situation-"
said enfys but was interrupted by their mom on some python spitting fire getting out of the cauldron
"UNFORTUNATELY DEARIE I HAVE A BIT OF A SITUATION TOO SO IF YOU WILL-"
said misk, the mother of enfys and the one who taught him magic. she had red clothing and messy hair with a red scarf Tying it loosely. she and enfys had the same facial features, she had alot of gold in her outfit and had some golden ring bracelets. enfys threw something in the cauldron to fix the spell. they held their mom as she fell off the now gone python and put her gently on the ground.
"oh that worked.....how did i not think of that"
"your memory isn't exactly the best mom don't worry about that we can fix it later"
"yes....yes you're right. so what was your situation?"
she said as she was continuing her work
"uhh....well.....the prince learned of his curse"
".....what"
she said as she was slowly turning to face them
"LISTEN I WAS SOMEWHERE ELSE AND THEN SOME SCOUTS GOT IN AND HE SOMEHOW MADE FRIENDS WITH THEM BUT THEN HE ATE LIKE ALL OF THEM EXCEPT ONE ESCAPED AND NOW HE KNOWS OF HIS CURSE AND THAT SCOUT IS GOING BACK TO WHERE HE CAME FROM PROBABLY FOR REINFORCEMENTS....."
".....and what did you do to him AFTER he learned of his curse?"
"......i put him to sleep in a magic cage-"
misk face palmed the second these words left enfys mouth
"WHAT ELSE WAS I SUPPOSED TO DO HE PANICKED AND WE CAN'T REASON WITH HIM THAT WAY"
"yes but you forgot that. one: he STRESS EATS....AND TWO HE BREAKS MAGIC SPELLS"
"except i forged a new spell that cannot be broken so we're fine and the sheep are safe"
sheep panick screams are heard being cut immediately with gnawing sounds
"ugh.....i really thought i had the right one this time"
enfys goes out to see sheep getting slaughtered and the werewolf leaving nothing but bones
he then stands in its line of sight
"its really not very kind to eat your people prince ether."
the werewolf pounces on enfys only for it to be an illusion
"wow you are not in a good mood tonight"
the werewolf then hurls a bunch of sheep on enfys
"oh come on-" enfys stops the sheep from falling and lands them slowly but before he could let them land completely the werewolf gets close and almost claws at him
he quickly uses magic to get back and leave a flame circle around the beast
"didn't they teach you some manners ether? at least take me to dinner before you tear up my organs"
"enfys, unless seducing that RAMPAGING WEREWOLF can get it to calm down I'd rather you don't do it infront of me"
"MOM???" enfys yelled in surprise and utter horror. he did not want his mom seeing that side of him.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE THAT THING CAN ATTACK YOU AT ANY SECOND-" he's interrupted by the werewolf jumping in the air over the flames and trying to land on enfys
"SEE WHAT I MEAN???" enfys Summons some rock monsters to distract the beast
"YOU GOTTA GO"
"no i need some of its fur"
"WHY???"
"DON'T TALK BACK TO YOUR ELDERS"
"WHY DO YOU NEED THE FUR- HOW AM I EVEN SUPPOSED TO GET THAT???"
"JUST INDULGE ME!"
the beast has broken the rock monsters and started running directly in their direction
"UGH FINE. if i die its on you."
enfys then lunges at the werewolf
as he's leaving misk whispers something under her breath
"we both know that's not true"
enfys tricks the beast into attacking and gets on its back. holding some of the werewolfs fur for misk he gets a spell ready.
"alright ether i may have given you your nap but its time to wake up"
enfys casts a spell to wake up ether
as ether is waking up enfys cuts a handful of the fur before his transformation back
ether wakes up confused and worried
he starts panicking and starts to look everywhere seeing the blood and gore of the sheep he killed. he is panting and pulling his hair and his vision gets a little Shakey
"HEY hey its ok" enfys starts comforting ether as to not let his mind spiral
"but its my fault!!" the sentence appears in the thought bubble as ether is visibly panting and tearing up
"no. it isn't." enfys assures him "you're under the effect of a curse remember? you can't control it"
ether starts to cry but he's not panicking as badly anymore
he reaches to hug a nearby sheep as his cries and whimpers are muffled by its wool
"geez.....i really wish we can cure you soon..." enfys says as he leaves the Prince on the ground with the sheep
"i see why you were seducing him now" misk says out of the blue
"GAH! MOM! STOP THAT! I HAVE HAD ENOUGH HEART ATTACKS FOR ONE DAY" enfys yells as his ears heat up from embarrassment
"did you get the fur?"
"yeah yeah" he hands it to her "hopefully you can work with this"
"it will suffice. and the prince? should we tell him the full story?"
"im....im not sure.... he's awfully confused right now he doesn't know what he is or who he is.....i think it will be dangerous to trust him with the details at least for now"
"if you say so. it doesn't matter to me."
misk said with a tired tone
the prince then looks over to enfys and misk who are carefully approaching him
"hey ether. its time you learned of the full story. of who you are." enfys said looking at his mom who was making a spell to tell the tale using colorful smoke. the prince is about to learn how he was cursed to be a beast.
I rewatched the pilot episode of The Outcasts (perhaps because of my cowboy dream). It's interesting, because the first time I watched it I was a) half paying attention while doing work and b) fully expecting it to be a train wreck of the highest order, so I wasn't really tuned in to the fine details of the acting and writing. Mostly I was just sort of boggling at 'why would anyone think this premise is a good idea,' I guess.
Having watched the whole series, it's utterly transparent from the first meeting of Jemal and Corey, that a) their respective actors clearly trust and respect each other, b) that we're supposed to see these characters as equally matched in all things, and c) that the intention from the beginning was to eventually get into the mire of "what does someone who has done something unforgivable need to do to redeem themselves and become a better person."
The moment they meet, Corey falls back on a lifetime of racist upbringing and racist societal expectations, and Jemal, with immense weariness and disdain, lays bare how obvious it is that Corey is disgraced and deposed (rightly) Southern gentry forced to beg for scraps.
Tumblr media
They stick metaphorical knives directly under each others' ribs, refuse to let go of the handles, and then spend the rest of the episode wondering why they can't seem to escape the guy they won't take their knife out of. The cruelty is targeted and often difficult to witness (the above is a very mild example), especially when Corey lashes out against his own self-doubt and feelings of inadequacy with outright racism. But then later we see his refusal to play along with a group of soldiers' incitement to racial violence; even while he and Jemal are still "enemies," he has a strange sense of personal fairness that gets in the way of fully swallowing what post-Civil War society has to say about Black people.
I also don't think I'd noted that, like much of the rest of the series, the pilot has an odd, dry sense of humor. Jemal and Corey tie in a shooting contest; those running the contest want both of them out of town. So they declare, In the event of a tie-- which has never happened before-- the $50 prize will return to the town building fund, and the runners up will get a pie.
We cut then to Corey eating an entire pie with a fork and knife, alone at a table in a saloon.
Later in the episode Corey, having followed Jemal on a bounty, leaves in a huff and tells him he's moving on to El Paso because this job is going nowhere. Not longer after, Jemal is captured by a group of corrupt soldiers; shortly after that Corey is captured as well. Corey gets tied up besides Jemal, and Jemal asks, dryly:
Tumblr media
Then we get the first version of the same argument they continue to have until the penultimate episode: Corey just about admits he may have been wrong, Jemal presses him on it, Corey implies he actually cares only for financial gain, Jemal accepts that Corey kind of sucks and implies one sometimes Must Suck in America to survive, and then Corey changes the subject-- and in changing the subject implies he might actually care about other peoples' well being more than money, no matter what he says with his mouth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Corey inquires with some distress about Jemal's wound; Jemal, equally unwilling to be vulnerable, shuts it down with a single word-- bullet.
They work extremely well together, easily reading each other's signals without prior discussion, falsely playing their proscribed societal roles to disarm and distract bigots seduced by that easy lie. When they choose to "ride in the same direction" at the end of the episode, you get the sense that they could be headed for genuine friendship. The Outcasts isn't interested in that kind of easy answer, however-- 1800's racism isn't going to be solved in a single episode, and an ex-confederate isn't going to magically become a staunch Black ally overnight. For the rest of the series, with each moment of understanding Jemal and Corey have, they'll be at each others' throats (often literally) an equal amount of time.
Knowing the trajectory the series takes, their tentative more towards partnership in this episode makes far more sense-- the first time through it was difficult to see from a non-"this is a plot contrivance" perspective why they'd choose to work together. A second time around, you get the sense that they immediately recognize something of themselves in each other, and just as quickly wish they hadn't-- but can't unsee it, either, and therefore can't manage to stop orbiting one another. The title-- The Outcasts-- theoretically comes from their respective pasts making them supposed social pariahs, but that's not really true. In practice, however, we see other characters later with similar backgrounds who don't have to live on the margins of society-- frankly Jemal and Corey are just both somewhat unpleasant loners who find they can just barely tolerate each other, and that is what makes them outcasts.
Obligatory warning that The Outcasts is a show about 1870's racism made in the 1960's. It's a well-made show that is absolutely a product of its era and not always easy or pleasant to watch; it frequently approaches its difficult subject matter in a way that is likely to feel dated, ham-fisted, or outright offensive to viewers fifty years on. This doesn't mean it's not worth watching period, but it does mean it might not be worth watching for you or for everyone.
If you'd asked Tango what the afterlife felt like a month ago, he'd have told you it felt cold. It felt like an explosion in your face, an arrow in your leg, and not a single person around you to mourn the casualty that was your final life.
If you'd asked him now..
Different. It's different.
Tango's hands brush up against long, swaying wheat; it's freshly grown. He doesn't know how he knows that, but he does.
As he looks up, he sees.. the ranch. Tall, meticulously crafted cobblestone walls. A shed on the side for the animals (he can still hear some cows mooing). A wooden path along the cliff. His house..
A grave for three.
The cobble feels cold on his fingers when he lays his hands on his tombstone. He could practically feel the pity of the person who crafted them. Just another grave for another loss.. Tango's blood boils when he realizes it's the same for Jimmy's, the canary's laying on the opposite side of the grave he made for the Warden. It feels like there's supposed to be a message there; something about a cemetery of failed attempts; but, if you ask him, he's a little too dead to care.
You could ask Tango a lot of things now, he really wouldn't care. All he's thinking is how stupid it was that he thought things would be different- how he thought he could make things different. For Jimmy.
His left hand comes up to his right, and he feels his ring finger, the thread tied upon it. While before it felt firm, a constant reminder of how the other end is tied to someone else, now it feels.. loose. Like somewhere along the line it had been cut, leaving Tango feeling, well.. a little cold, actually.
Tango turns towards his and Jimmy's house. He'd only lived there for a month, yet it felt more like a home than the bases on the other servers ever did. He reaches a hand up to the doorknob and—
"TANGO!"
It swings open, and he's tackled in a hug that sends them both tumbling to the ground; the grass tickles his ears a bit and they flick.
"J—Jimmy?"
Jimmy doesn't respond, only hugging him tighter for a moment before Tango taps his arm a few times in rapid succession. "Jimmy, Jimmy, babe, I can't breath."
Jimmy lets out a small gasp, sitting up in Tango's lap and cupping his face (his hands feel so, so warm). "Shit! I'm so sorry, Tango! Are you okay? Do you need me to get off you- what am I saying, of course I need to get off of you-"
"No!" Tango shouts, pushing himself up on an elbow and grabbing Jimmy's arm before he could move. He just.. didn't want to lose that warmth. "No, Jimmy, you're fine. Amazing, actually."
Nothing feels real. It feels like if Jimmy moves, everything will go cold again. He won't feel the sun on his skin, the warmth his smile carries, the blush rising up his neck onto his cheeks, dusting his face in pink. He needs to keep that warmth.
"So.." he breaks the quick silence, looking around at the ranch. In the distance he hears footsteps, some fire crackling, but he knows nobody will reach them here. "Uh.. We're dead, right? Where are we?"
Jimmy just smiles and laughs, soft and familiar, like an inside joke just to himself and Tango's heart seizes in his throat at that expression, so full of life and love as Jimmy takes Tango's hand in his own, squeezing them together for a minute as he chuckles a few times more, sighing in contentedness. "We're home, Tango."
"..Home?"
"Home."
You were going to a regular family dinner with your fiancé, Naoya Zenin. You were seated waiting for Naobito and Naoya to begin dinner. "Well we're just waiting on one more person for tonight's dinner." Naobito stated with a bit of distaste. He took a long sip of his sake. You peered at Naoya who looked irritated at the idea of whomever it was would be sharing a meal with the rest of you.
"I'm getting tired of waiting so let's dig in, we can't just wait on him." Naobito said, beginning to eat his food. You waited for Naoya to also have his first bite before you proceeded to eat as well. "She's such a good wom-" Naoya began before he was interrupted by the door sliding open.
"Ah, pardon the interruption." The man said walking in and seating himself right across Naoya with a small thud. He was a very well built man. Your ears burned red from seeing the way he was structured. He was more attractive than Naoya, if you so boldly admitted to yourself. "Oh, is this lady Naoya's wife to be?" The dark haired man questioned as he ate his food.
Naoya seemed more agitated, allowing Naobito to answer instead. "That's correct." Quietly, you ate your food keeping your eyes glued to the dinner in front of you. "I'm Toji, what's your name?" Toji asked you as you looked up to meet his eyes for a moment before answering politely. "Y/n," You spoke back, noticing how his face was rough with a certain gentleness when seeing it clearly.
"You need not speak to my fiancé so directly." Naoya responded staring at Toji with hooded eyes, the tone of his voice underlined with anger. "Eh? Well then how am I to speak to her?" Toji asked puzzledly, pointing his chopsticks at Naoya. Naoya replied, "Through me. She is a woman after all and mine at that."
Toji let out a hard taunting laugh. "Toji!" Naobito yelled, taking another drink of the sake bottle now in his hand. You jumped at the sudden loud voice. "Fine, fine," Toji sighed with his eyes now hooded, "but she's not even yours yet what makes you think she'll last long enough to actually stay with you. She doesn't even know if you're even capable of making her c-'' Toji was cut off by Naoya who gripped his shirt collar.
"Naoya," You spoke, grabbing his sleeve lightly, "please do not lower yourself to his level." Naoya removed his eyes from Toji's and glared back at you. Glancing back at Toji he shoved his chest and he let go of his shirt. "You're right," Naoya spoke with a distasteful tone as he glared at Toji, "I shouldn't lower myself to the level of gravel like him."
Toji scoffed a smirk playing along onto his handsome lips, "Seems like your woman knows how to restrain your leash." Chuckling, Toji shoved more rice into his mouth.
"If anyone has a leash on any one, it's me on her." Naoya responded back, taking a drink of the rice wine in his cup. Your ears burned with fury listening to Naoya speak about you in that form. You were no one's leashed pet, especially not his. You weren't even his wife yet and he already speaks of you in this way? Audacity. That's all he had. You were only obedient enough to be respected and not get insulted.
You kept up a gentle and sweet act in order to live a peaceful life in this stern household. "Naoya, I am no pet to be owned." You replied back to him in a calm and stoic tone while looking straight ahead. "She's got a point there." Toji agreed, while swallowing the food in his mouth.
Naoya turned your head to him by grabbing your chin forcefully. "No woman, especially you, shall speak to me in that manner. If I say you're a pet, then you're a fucking pet." He spat at you angrily while pushing your face away from him while releasing your jaw.
Taking a deep breath you stood up from your seat, "If you'll excuse me, I have finished my meal and will be heading back to my quarters." You announced, exiting the room without a glance back at the men sitting at the table. Toji was slightly shocked at the scene that just happened in front of him. The black haired man glances at Naoya to see his reaction.
"Pathetic woman." is all Naoya says out loud as you leave the room still being in earshot of you. You balled your fists hearing his comment.
Naobito who is also a bit shocked speaks up, "Well I think I'll be taking my leave as well." The head of the clan leaves the room with a bottle of sake in his hand.
"Go fucking apologize," Toji barks to Naoya with a bitter tone. "No, why should I? She's the one who's acting out of place." Naoya retorted, taking another drink from his cup. "You're gonna go apologize, cuz I said you are." Toji gritted out, Naoya glared at him angrily.
• • •
You had just arrived at your quarters and slammed your bedroom door shut. You were infuriated that you couldn't say anything. "What I would do to have that man on all fours in front of me." You said bitterly through gritted teeth. You began removing your kimono, annoyed at the fact that you had to wear these damn things daily.
Opening your closet door you are greeted by more kimonos and only slip on dresses to sleep in. You spotted the black box on the bottom corner of the closet. Maybe some self-pleasure would relieve my frustration. You shook your head against the thought and just grabbed the black slip-on dress.
Walking over to your vanity you removed any residue of the day's stress. You got yourself changed and ready for bed. Finally letting your hair down, you settle yourself into a futon that was placed on the ground in the middle of your room.
As you try to put your thought-full mind at ease to get some sleep, you hear the entrance door slide open then shut. Shuffling noises are heard then right after the sound of footsteps creeping to the door of your room hit the wooden floor boards.
Sitting up immediately you go to grab your robe hooked near the door as you slip it on you hear, "I'm coming in, woman." You hear Naoya's voice echo with a dejected sigh. The door slides open, revealing Naoya standing there with his arms crossed.
He's a bit shocked seeing you standing in front of him in only your open robe and your slip dress on. His face flushes and he looks away, "Put something decent on, woman."
"Woman?" You question. You were now at your wits end with him for the night. "Eh? Do I have to wear something decent in my bedroom? You came here at an indecent time, Naoya." You angrily spat poking his chest.
He looked at you now in disbelief that quickly morphed into anger. He grabbed the wrist of the hand poking his chest. "I guess it seems like you don't know your place tonight," Naoya hissed, walking you back into your bedroom getting closer to the futon that laid on the ground.
"No, it seems like you don't know yours." You mocked knocking him down to his knees and lifting his chin to look up at you. Through the faint bit of moonlight seeping through your window, you were able to see his appalled expression.
"Why you-" Grabbing his cheeks and squishing them together, you stopped all other words ready to come out of his mouth.
He grabbed your wrist with both of his hands. Before he could do anything; in a swift motion you removed the robe's waist tie and tied it around Naoya's wrists. You were surprised that you managed to tie his wrists as quickly as you did.
Holding his wrists above his head, "Tonight, I'll train you on how to be a good little bitch for your master." You growled out, releasing his face and pushing it away. "You crazy whore, let me go." Naoya swore in anger, his entire body trembled in rage as you stood looking down at him.
Pulling him down by his wrists that you were still holding, you made him land on his elbows with a thud to the ground. You laughed menacingly, walking towards the closet and pulling out the black box in the corner. "You think this is funny? You fucking cunt!" Naoya screamed at you as you walked back over to him.
You used your foot to lift his head, "It is, especially when this is how we'll be experiencing our first night together." You smiled innocently. Opening the box and emptying the contents; some toys, bottles of lube, and condoms came falling out.
Naoya looked at you stunned in fear after seeing the contents of the box displayed on the ground. "You dumb worthless wench! What do you think you're gonna do?!" He howled, anger seething through his expression. You bent down to grab his face and slapped him.
"A dog does not speak unless ordered to." Naoya's anger made his body quake. The fact you dared to speak to him in that form and to even slap him was unacceptable and ludicrous.
"Untie me you stupid whore before I decide to kill you!" Naoya cursed glaring daggers at you. You slapped him again across his face then again, and again, then again one more time.
"YOU FUCKING SLUT! UNTIE ME RIGHT NOW SO I CAN KILL YOU!" Naoya was furious at this point. You stood up and kicked his side hard enough for him to land on his back.
"I told you, I will be training you on how you should obey your master." Reaching for the collar and leash that was mixed on the ground with the other toys, you sat on him pulling at his blonde hair to lift his head from the pillow making it easier to place the collar around his neck. you smiled in love with the view of seeing him under your control.
"Get that shit off me!" Naoya demanded. Grabbing his chin you brushed your thumb pad across his bottom lip. "Now, Why would I do that? You look so good with it on. Like a proper pet." You leaned closer to him enough to let his lips brush yours.
Grinning, you whispered lowly in his ear, "The way you look right now turns me on so much." You proceeded to give him a soft kiss on his jawline. Swallowing hard, Naoya looked at you with his rage filled eyes. Awaiting what else you'd do, and how far you'd think of going.
As you slide yourself lower on him, your womanhood sat directly on his dick. Undoing his top you opened it exposing his well-built chest. Now sitting on his dick it hit you, that he was aroused.
"Well look at what we have here my slutty pet? Looks like I'm not the only one enjoying this." You grind your womanhood down on his growing bulge making Naoya's breath hitch in his throat.
You positioned yourself in between his legs with his legs on either side of your hips. "This shit is not turning me on you fucking slut." Naoya said insultingly. You removed his pants and then traced a finger on the outline of his underwear where his bulge stood out. Judging By the tent in his underwear alone, you could tell that the blonde man was huge.
"Calling me a slut when you're the one whos leaking." You poke at the tip of his dick where a small wet spot has been created from precum. Naoya had no retort for what you said, all he can do is grit his teeth in anger as you pull off his underwear. His cock springs up, the night air hitting his exposed member. You run a finger from the base of his cock to the tip.
You are just a tad bit shocked at how large his cock is. Maybe this was what he traded for instead of having a decent personality. "Well, just know I'm not nice enough to let you cum anytime soon." You commented as you reached for some lube and the beaded sound laying on the floor.
Naoya shook his head seeing the metal beaded rod in your hand he already assumed what your intentions were. "I'll make sure it doesn't hurt too much, darling." You scoffed at the word ‘darling’ leaving your lips. After having lubed up the sound you stroked Naoya's cock with your free hand to get him to relax.
As soon as he seemed more relaxed you spread the opening of his cock and started placing the beaded sound into his opening. Naoya's eyes widened, filling with tears at the foreign object being inserted into his cock. "FUCK! YOU INSANE PSYCHO BITCH!!" He bellowed out as you slowly pushed the sound into him.
After a few more curses and muffled cries, it was fully in. "Now, that wasn't too bad." You gave him a gentle smile. You stroke his dick gently feeling it twitch in your grasp. Naoya looked at you with fuming glossy eyes.
Tracing your fingers up and down his abdomen you felt just how toned he was, maybe not as buff as another certain Zenin but nicely toned. Your fingers slowly went to tease his nipples rubbing them in a circular motion.
Naoya lowered his arms down to move your hands away, "I'm not a woman! Do not pla-'' Before he could finish you pulled on the leash attached to his collar yanking him towards your face.
"If its only a place to tease women, then why is your dick twitching like a dog in heat?" You breathe out amused. Taking that moment you grab his face spitting on him. Standing up you removed your robe along with the slip dress leaving you only in some black lace-trimmed panties.
Naoya's face began to burn a crimson red, this was the first time he has ever seen your body naked. He had never seen you so exposed and bare like this, he hated to admit how much he loved the way your body looked lightly lit by the moonlight. You placed yourself back in between his legs once again grabbing the lube, you poured it on Naoya's cock letting it flood down between his ass.
Using one hand to stroke his dick while your other hand slid in between his ass. He froze sensing your second hand's action. "Don't you fucking dare you lowly whore!" He barked, his eyes widening in anger as you smirked and proceeded in plugging your index and middle finger in him. "I already let you stuff my dick! You damn lunatic!!" Naoya fumed as you resumed.
"You have no place to talk when you're g-spot is literally in your ass bitch." You sneered going further in him and spreading him out. As you began to pump into him with your fingers spreading him in the process. He muffled his moans and whimpers by biting his lip.
You let go of his dick and slapped it. "I never said not to make noise, bark for your master, disobedient bitch." You commanded as he let out a sharp gasp. He gritted his teeth, closing his eyes as you added another finger.
Proceeding to pump into him faster, making him arch his back and causing his breathing to become erratic. "S-Stop please!" He moans out, finally you had managed to hit his prostate.
"Call me master and I might consider your request, useless dog." You growled at him, pulling out your fingers. Naoya shuddered at the release of your fingers from his now begging hole. You were about to grab your strap on when you heard a knock at your bedroom door.
Frozen in place for a second, you placed a finger to your lips signaling Naoya to keep quiet, "May I ask who?" You called out as you glanced at Naoya to make sure he kept his mouth shut. Surely he wouldn't want to get caught in this situation.
"Uh, it's me Toji, I wanted to make sure Naoya didn't upset you more than he already has," Toji responded from the other side. Your mouth formed a small 'o' as you glanced back at Naoya. A smirk forms on your pretty plump lips. Naoya scowled at you and at Toji's response.
"He hasn't upset me further, but please come in." Naoya shakes his head furiously, obviously he didn't want to be seen below a woman nor did he want Toji to see his woman exposed. "Alright, I'm coming in." Toji slid the door open slowly, his head peered into the room. The dark haired male was in shock after witnessing Naoya and yours position on the futon.
"Would you care to join us?" You proposed a bit of a gleam in your eyes. Toji froze for a moment but then proceeded to walk in without saying a word, closing the door behind him. He gripped at the edge of his shirt and pulled it over his head making his way over, revealing his buff and sculpted build.
"You're into this shit!?" Naoya questioned as he saw Toji approaching you from behind. "Did I order you to speak?" You questioned, slapping his cock. Naoya flinched at the action inhaling a sharp breath.
Toji chuckled looking down at Naoya, "Seeing you getting treated like dirt by such a pretty lady, kinda tickles my taste." Toji sank onto his knees behind you.
"I'm gonna do what you haven't and fuck your woman," Toji smirked taking your breast into his hands, you could feel the rough callouses on his hands as they groped your breast. You sensed the bigger man's muscles flex against your bare back.
You bit your lip as you felt his hands roam your body. Naoya's body shook with enmity, "Get your fucking hands off of her you fucking bastard!" He demanded trying to sit himself up.
You grabbed the leash and pulled him up as close as possible to your face, "You're going to shut the fuck up and watch your master get her cunt fucked." You hissed cupping his face with your other hand. Kissing his lips roughly Naoya returned the kiss back with the same roughness. Ending the kiss you pushed him back down onto the futon.
Toji continued to explore your body with his hands. He let soft kisses touch your nape, slowly making his way to your left shoulder. His left hand was groping your right breast while his right hand wandered down inside your black panties.
"Wow, you're fucking wet," Toji breathed into your ear his deep voice causing goosebumps to rise on your skin. His fingers quickly found your clit and he began to massage it in a circular motion. He was gentle with his motion, but going at a steady pace just enough to make your body tremble with enjoyment.
You let out soft moans as he let his hands pleasure and unwind you. "On all fours pretty lady," Toji commanded, you followed his orders and positioned yourself on all fours. Your face was now in front of Naoya's throbbing cock.
The blonde man watched as you were bottomed out by Toji, this view infuriated him. He hated seeing Toji as the one you were submitting to, Naoya's frustration grew by each tortuous second. Toji proceeded to remove the garment inclosing your soaking pussy. The chill night air hitting your womanhood made you gasp softly.
Toji laid on his back his head in between your legs underneath you. You let out a moan as soon as you felt Toji's tongue start to lap your soaking pussy.
Naoya's dick began to twitch again hearing your moans get louder. It was making him more eager to have you touch him. "Fuck." Naoya exhaled.
"Tastes so fucking good," Toji moaned between each lap of his tongue gripping your thighs. He used his fingers to enter your hole, "Loosen up for me, princess." Gasping loudly, you gripped the sheets of the futon as his fingers began to pump in and out of your pussy.
You let your body move on it's own, fucking yourself on his thick fingers. "Y/n! Fuck please." Naoya breathed out desperately. Your mouth opened as you began to tongue Naoya's cock not wanting to deprive him too much.
In reality, you wanted to take Naoya's full cock in our mouth, but since you were in the midst of training this misbehaved dog, maybe another time.
"I'm going to cum!" You screamed as you came all over Toji's fingers, your legs trembling from the sensation. The dark haired male made sure to clean up all of your spilling juices with his mouth.
Toji repositioned himself on his knees and pulled you up by your arms so you were on your knees again. "Can't believe Naoya hasn't had the pleasure to enjoy your taste." Toji smirked and looked at Naoya, he grabbed your chin so he could kiss you.
"Taste yourself, my lady." Toji bit your bottom lip making you open your mouth allowing his tongue to explore the inside of your mouth. Pulling away you smiled innocently seeing Naoya's flushed face due to him being probably mad or frustrated, whatever it was you liked the expression.
"I have to give my pet the rest of his training and if he takes it well he can fuck his master's cunt next time too." You grabbed the strap on and put it on yourself, making Naoya flip and position himself with his ass up.
You proceeded to grab the lube and spanking paddle, placing the lube on Naoya to make it easier on yourself and him to slip in. Naoya was surprisingly being very complacent now, maybe seeing how Toji satisfied you made him want to do the same.
While you prepped Naoya, Toji removed his pants and underwear, tossing them to the side with the mess of clothing scattered on the floor. The heavenly carved man used his hand to pump his throbbing hard cock, getting it ready to fuck the life out of you.
"Time for some training bitch." You said sliding the attached dildo into Naoya. You hear his muffled gasp, you used the paddle to spank the blonde male's ass. Naoya jerked his head to the side at the shutter of pain coming from his ass. "Your master wants to hear her slutty pet moan, so refrain from keeping quiet." You ordered spanking him again.
Finally you were fully taken in by Naoya you then began pumping into his plump ass. You started at a slow enough pace to let Toji insert himself inside you.
You felt his cock fill you up. He was big and his girth filled your tight pussy. Your walls clenched around his cock almost about to cum from him just entering you. Toji gripped your waist, "No cumming this easily, my lady." He hummed into your ear.
Snapping back your head nodding at his command and you happily continue thrusting into Naoya. Picking up the pace Toji met you with the same rhythm while his left hand was placed on your neck gently squeezing the sides with his fingers and thumb.
His right hand squeezed and groped your left breast; with your hand on Naoya's waist to keep your pace steady. Naoya's grunts and moans echoed through the dimly lit room as you begin to hit his prostate.
"Please stop!" Naoya whimpered as he starts to feel the immense pleasure from having you fuck him. Toji's grunts and moans get louder filling the room as well. "Please, please! I hate you! You fucking piece of shit woman!!" Naoya cursed through waves of pleasure.
You used the paddle to reprimand him for cursing. You're able to see the tint of his ass get redder with the little bit of moonlight peaking in, it was a full moon out tonight and your body and mind were in bliss.
You kept thrusting, hitting Naoya's prostate repeatedly, "I wanna cum! I wanna cum! Let me cum please!" Naoya pleaded out to you. Now you just had to see his expressions, imagining it when it was right in front of you wasn't sufficing. Toji kept his rhythm as he was also close to his peak.
Your smooth hand grabbed Toji's wrist to stop him as you halted your movements into Naoya. Pulling out of the blonde man, you flipped him over on his back. His face flushed and wet with tears, his eyes sparkling with wetness making the sadistic side of yourself excited.
Seeing him in that state made your pussy get wetter than it was already. Toji felt you squeeze around his cock at the view of your fiancé looking like a pathetic animal. You grabbed Naoya's cock and removed the beaded sound slowly from his flushed-pulsing cock.
With each of the beaded rod sliding out Naoya panted and moaning once it was fully extracted from his huge cock. "Please make me cum, Master." Naoya whined while looking at you completely bottomed out.
Your face blushed as you repositioned yourself back into Naoya. Toji started again as well once you got to a good pace. Picking up the speed of your thrusts, you were ready to make his dick unload the cum he had been building up.
Naoya was now shamelessly moaning and grunting as you were hitting his sweet spot repeatedly. He arched his back to feel each thrust you did. Deciding  to add to his pleasure you pumped his cock in your hand, making him throw his head back at the blissful feeling.
Toji kept thrusting into you, hitting your g-spot and making you throw your head back in satisfaction as well. Moans cascading out of your mouth a symphony. Your panted as your walls clenched around him as you were getting close to your orgasm.
"I'm cumming!" all three of your pleasured voices mixed at once as you reach your climax. Removing yourself from Naoya, his cum squirts all over his own chest.
Toji pulls out of you, cumming on your back all the while your legs tremble as you cum as well. "I fucking hated this," Naoya grunted out breathing heavily. You smirked at your fiancé and questioned him, "Wanna get your brains fucked again, you dumb crybaby pet?"
𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧'𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐧-𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 -1\ {Masterlist 1} {masterlist 2} _____________________________________________________________
You were a force of nature, a whirlwind that comes and goes. The division captains are were thrown in a loop of how fast you resued your cousin and how you left as equally fast without even speaking a single word to them.
So they were shocked to see you again at the next toman meeting after they spoke to Mikey and Draken about you.
It turns out Mikey and Draken decided to look into the information the captains relayed upon them even if they really thought it was a joke.
They both continued to think it was a joke till they had a run-in with you and your cousin while looking for a rival gang captain that was spotted there but didn't know much about.
Your cousin yet again caused trouble and didn't think before he took action. BY took action it meant his dumbass picked a fight with a dude 2 times his size and was known for his very brutal fighting skills and lack of empathy for his victims. Mikey and Draken went to intervene but honestly, that made everything worse. Mikey and Draken riled the man so much that it had alerted some of the men with him. It was going to be a real ugly fight but lucky you stepped in.
"I'm so sorry for the trouble my family caused!" you say beginning to start your normal maneater charm. There you were dressed like a plain (colored) apron with your hair tied/clipped and a light (color) long sleeve. It was an outfit straight out of those exaggerated scenes in manga or anime. You had this energy around you that flustered people around you.
Draken and Mikey had the biggest wtf is happening faces. Suddenly this felt like deja vu to them.
"o-oi! You-" the man began to speak but you interrupted him getting closer to him. Something about you just lured him in.
"Ever since our parents died, my brothers and I have been fending for ourselves. We feel lost without their kind and gentle hands. Their love we no longer feel. We struggle to even feed ourselves. We're truly helpless without them'' you pause for a bit and you can feel the man try to comfort you. Already pulling at his heartstrings he had no idea still existed. " so my brothers they lash out in any place they can. There is only so much I can do as their older sister. I know I'm failing to be the big sister they need "
You reach out and grab the man's hands. You clasp them between your own.
what in the world were you doing? Why were you giving out a sad sob story to a stranger?
" But you can understand right?!" You say your eyes lighting up with light tears pooling at your eyes. " they're just hurting! please forgive them and move on!" you say your voice breaks lighting seeming as if you are overcome with emotion. " I promise I'll do a better job. I'll look out for them more and be a better sister," you say finally looking at him with tears streaming down your face.
The man was frozen, his hands still in warm hands who tenderly held his. He could feel your arms shaking. This man was already under your spell of lies and charm.
" y/n, I said I was sorry." Your cousin starts
"Sorry doesn't cut it. I'm used to you getting in trouble but this! This has crossed a line! what were you thinking you, idiot!" You replied as you take off the apron and untie/unclip your hair. You turn to a woman who was outside at a table eating a pastry.
"Thank you so much for letting me use your apron without notice ma'am" The woman smiles at you and tells you it's fine.
" As a thank you, could I pay for your food?"
Draken and Mikey still reeling from the shock from what you just did. How the hell does that even work? why did they just go with it instead of just leaving or beating the crap out of that guy?
"y/n, how did you pay for that? I know you didn't have enough cover that"
Yeah, how the hell did you pay for that women's meal?
You smirk and hold up a wallet.
"y/n did you steal that?"
"no, he was just so moved he gave it to me. Though it would have been so easy to steal it. that man was ripe for the taking." You say and you grip the wallet. "Hey, you two? you want anything it's on him" you say in a singy song voice.
yeah, you are fucking terrifying! An absolute threat to anyone who just dares get in front of you. The captains were right you are a pure untameable threat and a great asset to anyone you decide to help!
And that's why they must have you!
You Identify as a threat and Mikey and Draken weren’t afraid to use your ability to the fullest.
" And that's how I ran into Mikey and Draken! They recruited me while we had dinner. It was pretty fun."
Shock, just shock all around. To think you even wowed the top two in just one day.
After you were inaugurated into Toman. you were put into the 5th division with mucho and Sanzu but you were to assist in any captains if asked to.
Your abilities and skills are on overtime put plainly you're overworked in Toman. A lot of times your out keeping the toman members out of trouble. It was like getting 12 more people like your cousin just in different variants of him.
Many times you assist Draken with Mikey. It doesn't matter if you're shorter or taller than Mikey, you're also sharing the load of carrying him after he sleeps. You tutor Mikey in things from school he doesn't understand or just didn't give enough care to listen and fell asleep. Most of the time you are with them you trail behind them because you don't know what they'll pull out of their asses last minute. they're chaotic at best and you just have to join. Mikey and Draken let you play with their hair as long as you massage their head. That shit gets them sleepy and in a few minutes, they go to sleep. Whenever their head hurts or they aren't, feeling okay you place a pillow on your lap and make them lay down as you comb and massage their hair. 10/10 makes them feel better. While Draken has a lot of woman figures in his life, he feels like your his older sister even though all of you are the same age. He feels very comfortable and he trusts you with his own being. So you guys hang out in his room a lot. He the first time he invited you to his apartment, the girls from the brothel swarmed him automatically. You tease him about being a ladies' man/womanizer and he just panics trying to explain away everything but he struggles a lot due to the women just start exposing him to you. You get mistaken as a working girl and Draken was mortified, to say the least. He apologies to you the Draken way at least 10 times per day for a straight week. You just wave him off and tell him
"he was very apologetic Draken." as you show him the ward of cash he gave you as an apology/ hush-hush money
Draken promises he will protect you better after that incident.
Most of the time you had to get Baji out of trouble the most since he would set cars on fire, punch people just for shits and giggles etc etc. Your dynamic with him is interesting. You were kinda adopted by his mom and inherited the big sis role from her. So now you have this superiority over him but in Toman, he has the superiority. So oftentimes, when he's about to do something absolutely stupid with Captain of the First Division confidence all you have to say, is
"I'm gonna tell mom!"
And you see him deflate and run after you while yelling
"Don't snitch on me! Snitches get stitches!"
"you obviously didn't get the saying right its snitches get bitches!"
Chifuyu finds you hilarious especially when you mess with Baji the notorious mischief-maker. The three of you bond over your love of animals and they both bring you stray kittens they want you to adopt because mama Baji said no more kittens. You babysit Peke jr a lot when Chifuyu is busy and you read all the manga Chifuyu has in his room. Chifuyu has a picture of you sleeping with Peke jr and a few manga books around you. He has it as his background on his phone. Baji has a background of Chifuyu, you, and himself in a doggy pile while throwing up peace signs. It's one of his favorites.
Mitsuya is convinced you are an angel sent from heaven itself. He isn't alone anymore! He thanks his lucky stars that you aren't insane like baji and help him tame these children because he can't do it alone. You help him a lot on a day-to-day basis without meaning to. At first, it started when Mikey sent you instead of Peyan and Peyan thank you for your sacrifice. It's no secret that the girls in Mitsuya's clubs hate Peyan with a burning passion. So when they see little old you with just note in your hand with a shocked/frightened look on your face instead of Peyan. They feel so guilty for doing that to you and apologize quickly. You just tell them it's okay and ask to see Mitsuya. You know how Mitsuya just screams big brother energy well you scream big sis/small sis energy and they can't help but fangirl over your interactions with Mitsuya. You come sometimes when they're on overworking themselves and make all of them eat, take a rest before the busy bees start again. You babysit his sisters all the time. One time you just "broke" into his house and "kidnapped" his sisters. You ended up playing Keep away with Mitsuya for the entire day for his sisters. His sisters love you so much, you 4 have matching outfits made by Mitsuya and his crew. Sometimes people mistake you for a young family when you're out and about. Mitsuya can't stop you from your slightly mischievous ways. He physically and emotionally can't. Your cute face and the way you sparkle as you fool people into thinking you guys are 100% a young family. he stops you when you say, you're trying for a third. His sisters call you big sis or Mitsuya's girlfriend. They grill Mitsuya for not going after you, telling him he's going to be single forever if he doesn't and they'll make sure of it. He's slightly frightened that they have picked up your maneater abilities.
Hakki is such a little cutie! You think he's the cutest when he can't form a single word to you. So you're often seen teasing Hakki all the time. You get along with his older sister too so eventually he gets used to you too. You treat him like a younger brother too which kinda upsets him but once you pet his head or begin giving him some affection he just drops it. You're very overprotective of Hakki and Yuzha. Hakki knows what you're capable of he saw himself but when you aren't in a maneater mood, he just sees you like a soft older sister just like Yuzha. But he's quickly reminded of how dangerous you are when you first encounter his older brother. HE won't forget the day you completely and utterly left his older brother destroyed and with no will to fight you as you conned him. No blows were exchanged, you just destroyed him with abilities. He cried when you told him that you loved him and if his older brother came back to give him and Yuzha trouble. To run to her, no matter the time or day and you'll come running to help. all had to was ask.
You're automatically obsessed with the twins on day one. You're seen just absolutely fluster Souya anytime you interact with him. Souya believed you really wouldn't approach him because of his face or maybe you would talk to his brother but he was proven wrong as soon as the toman meeting was over. You were in front of him.
"Oh my gosh! you're so cute!!! can I touch you?!"
And so began the daily task of flustering Souya with affection and compliments. Souya appreciated that you were so lovely to him and his brother. Nahoya and Souya will make you taste any and all ramen plates they make or take you out to eat at other ramen places. Nahoya and Souya balance each other out but you're like in between them. Like a very special blend of both of them. So you get treated like the middle child of the twins. Nahoya often gets his shit checked by you a lot because he's always looking for a fight. You spend most of your time with Souya indoors watching movies, tv shows, and all that. While with Nahoya loves to go out to explore and all that fun jazz.
Canyon Moon = Joni Mitchell's Carey
Tumblr media
This kinda became a bigger than anticipated Harry's Fine Line x Joni Mitchell collection, but with emphasis on Canyon Moon x Carey. A lot of bits have been posted before as part of a bigger Canyon Moon analysis but I just wanted to extract the Carey bit because it's been a while and I still just love it so so so much. I'm also gonna go as far as my brain will let me to attack you with as many parallels with her music as possible (it's a lot)
Canyon Moon lyric breakdown x Joni Mitchell (mainly Carey), how Harry has talked about it, and more parallels under the cut:
Someone else can pay close attention and come back to tell me how beautiful this all is and how the sentiments all nicely align and stuff, I'm just gonna go what I do best and dumbdumb point at similar keywords instead and you can see the beauty in the words as we go without my describing it because I do not know how have fun:
You gotta see it to believe it Sky never looked so blue
Okay keep cloudless skies in mind, I'll go over it later
We're not starting off strong here, because this is generic af to mention blue skies or even just a color, but if he's really channeling Joni Mitchell's Blue and her being the lady of the Canyon in here, which I think he is, the mention of Blue not just here but in 2 contexts with the "doors yellow broken blue" later on in the song is a nice little nudge right? Blue is full of blue (girl you're going in circles). Most of her songs mention blue, often to describe feeling low.
With these parallels I'm keeping in a lot of surrounding text just because I love it all too much. "blue" (word) lines in Blue (the album):
Then we both get so blue (followed by: I am on a lonely road and I am traveling) - All I Want
We don't need no piece of paper from the city hall keeping us tied and true. My old man keeping away my blues. He's my sunshine in the morning, he's my fireworks at the end of the day - My Old Man
He went to California hearing that everything's warmer there so you write him a letter and say, "Her eyes are blue" He sends you a poem and she's lost to you. Little green - Little Green
[interestingly no Blue in Carey]
Just the entirety of the song Blue but: Blue, songs are like tattoos, You know I've been to sea before, Crown and anchor me or let me sail away // Blue, I love you - Blue
And the streets are full of strangers, All the news of home you read just give you the blues - California.
And that's just side 1 of Blue.
So hard to leave it That's what I always do
Oh, you know it sure is hard to leave here, Carey But it's really not my home - Carey
So I keep thinking back to A time under the canyon moon
(+You gotta see it to believe it, sky never looked so blue)
Rows and floes of angel hair And ice cream castles in the air And feather canyons everywhere I've looked at clouds that way But now they only block the sun They rain and snow on everyone So many things I would have done But clouds got in my way I've looked at clouds from both sides now From up and down, and still somehow It's cloud illusions I recall I really don't know clouds at all Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels The dizzy dancing way you feel As every fairy tale comes real I've looked at love that way - Both Sides Now
Colors up the sunshine hours Pouring music down the canyon Coloring the sunshine hours They are the ladies of the canyon - Ladies of the Canyon
But there's also just Carey again, as if Canyon Moon is thinking back to the time described in Carey:
The night is a starry dome. And they're playin' that scratchy rock and roll Beneath the Matala Moon - Carey
The world's happy waiting Doors yellow, broken, blue
Okay I'm gonna go a bit cray here, but a parallel is a parallel... so on the album Ladies Of The Canyon you got Blue Boy, that ends in standing in a door, followed by Big Yellow Taxi, with a yellow door:
Lady called the blue boy, love, she took him home // He will come a few times more till he finds a lady statue standing in a door in her door, oh - Blue Boy (I kinda just removed all the context of the song here and I hate it but this post is a book pretty much with all the lyrics my god)
Late last night I heard the screen door slam And a big yellow taxi took away my old man - Big Yellow taxi
I heard Jenny saying "Go get the kids from school"
(there really isn't a parallel here but I'm doing it anyway)
Just a little green like the color when the spring is born There'll be crocuses to bring to school tomorrow - Little Green
I'll be gone too long from you
Maybe it's been too long a time - Carey
Staring at the ceiling Two weeks and I'll be home
Last night I couldn't sleep (Oh, you know it sure is hard to leave here Carey but it's really not my home) - Carey
Carry the feeling
or is it Carey the feeling hmMMMm yeah
yeah
yuh
im good
Through Paris, all through Rome
Maybe I'll go to Amsterdam or maybe I'll go to Rome - Carey
And I miss my clean white linen and my fancy French cologne - Carey
Sitting in a park in Paris, France // But I wouldn't wanna stay here // Oh, but California, California I'm coming home - California
(I'll copypaste a bunch of Paris lyrics later on)
I'm going, oh, I'm going I'm going, oh, I'm going I'm going, oh, I'm going home
Oh, but California, California I'm coming home - California
Quick pause in conversation She plays songs I've never heard An old lover's hippie music Pretends not to know the words
And rent me a grand piano and put some flowers 'round my room But let's not talk about fare-thee-wells now The night is a starry dome. And they're playin' that scratchy rock and roll Beneath the Matala Moon - Carey
Colors up the sunshine hours Pouring music down the canyon Coloring the sunshine hours They are the ladies of the canyon - Ladies of the Canyon
This really reminds me of this live version of Carey:
youtube
But besides her quick pauses in conversations, playing her old lover's hippie music pretending not to know the words lol, I just think this is a nod to maybe the people he's met on his journey chasing his inspirations and maybe even more specifically that dulcimer (mentioned in the Rolling Stone bit below) and you know.. all that. If you read the rbit below, it looks like he also brought up Stevie Nicks in regards to this song, and I can't help relate this bit to her as well.
-----------------------------------
I'm done making links of which half are probably just not it and are effectively drowning out the bits that very much are it, sucks to be them, anyway, now we're going to the part where he just told us Canyon Moon is Carey's baby. You can hear it, you can see it, but he also pretty much said it. He’s described being obsessed with Blue as being “in a big Joni hole”, and talked about it specifically relating to Canyon Moon. Or at least, it's implied in this Rolling Stone interview as its under that heading there(pasting paste all the mentions here but it's a bit repetitive):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I do think he called Canyon Moon "Crosby, Stills, and Nash on steroids" because of its sound and not necessarily because of the following, but I find it very very interesting how Carey is the only song on Blue with Stills credits:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
hmmHMMMmmmm
------------------------------
Some more Joni related rambling:
His Joni hole seems to date all the way back to at least 2013, with the famous tweet:
Tumblr media
Also the way the song’s called Canyon Moon. Even without her mentions of Canyons and Moons in her lyrics I’d of course place my bets on that referring to the Laurel Canyon because of its link with an old lover’s hippie music from the Laurel Canyon and Ladies of the Canyon’s Joni Mitchell.
And man don't you just love the tracklist of Blue, Carey there between My Old Man + Little Green and Blue all fine ALL FINE:
Tumblr media
And I just want to point out that Blue is in itself doing this whole trick with colors (blue, green, black, silver and white, and perhaps more notably the lack of others), with the color blue (mostly used to describe loneliness) mentioned in all songs on side 1 with the only exception being Carey.
As for other parallels with this album and Fine Line, there’s loads, perhaps California being second closest to Canyon Moon besides Carey, and also this recurrent mention of café’s (and the way it’s mentioned [in relation to a relationship going (not) well and (not) meeting there kinda thing] just makes me think of the beachwood café line). Then in terms of sound I’d say Canyon Moon comes close to Carey (yep again) and Big Yellow Taxi, which Harry covered:
youtube
If you're not sick of the parallels and being all over the place yet (man you got some spare braincells there if you're not) let's just drag in all of fine line:
1. Fine Line x Both Sides Now is a big one.
2. You're something to hang up in a gallery or something:
Tired eyes are the death of me, Mouth full of toothpaste, Before I got to know you, I've got your face, Hung up high in the gallery, Out of this shade - Sunflower vol 6
vs (sorry I'm having a hard time not including any of these lyrics I know it's a lot a lot:)
When I first saw your gallery I liked the ones of ladies. Then you began to hang up me, You studied to portray me, In ice and greens and old blue jeans and naked in the roses, then you got into funny scenes that all your work discloses // "Lady, don't love me now I am dead I am a saint, turn down your bed I have no heart," that's what you said You said, "I can be cruel but let me be gentle with you" // I gave you all my pretty years then we began to weather and I was left to winter here while you went west for pleasure // When I first saw your gallery I liked the ones of ladies but now their faces follow me and all their eyes look shady - The Gallery
3. Golden but we're also caught in a devils bargain requiring an antidote and also we gotta get back to the sunlit garden bro:
Golden, golden, golden, As I open my eyes, Hold it, focus, hoping, Take me back to the light // I can feel it take a hold, I can feel you take control, Of who I am and all I've ever known, Loving you's the antidote - Golden
vs
We are stardust, Billion year old carbon, We are golden, Caught in the devil's bargain and we've got to get ourselves back to the garden - Woodstock
4. Cafe's used as a physical place to describe how a relationship is (no longer) going well:
And I'm well aware I write too many songs about you, And the coffee's out, At the Beachwood Cafe, And it kills me 'cause I know we've run out of things we can say - Falling
vs
He brings me songs to play. He sees me when he pleases I see him in cafes and I only say hello and turn away before his lady knows how much I want to see him, She removes him like a ring to wash her hands, She only brings him out to show her friends, I want to free him - Conversation
Come on down to the Mermaid Café and I will buy you a bottle of wine // Oh Carey, get out your cane I'll put on my finest silver, We'll go to the Mermaid Café Have fun tonight I said, oh, you're a mean old Daddy, but you're out of sight - Carey
And I said, "Constantly in the darkness Where's that at? If you want me I'll be in the bar" - A Case Of You
I don't want nobody comin' over to my table, I got nothing to talk to anybody about, All good dreamers pass this way some day, Hidin' behind bottles in dark cafés, dark cafés, Only a dark cocoon before I get my gorgeous wings and fly away, Only a phase, these dark café days - the Last time I Saw Richard
/ being free:
I deal in dreamers and telephone screamers Lately I wonder what I do it for If I had my way I'd just walk through those doors And wander down the Champs-Élysées Going café to cabaret Thinking how I'll feel when I find That very good friend of mine I was a free man in Paris I felt unfettered and alive Nobody was calling me up for favors No one's future to decide You know I'd go back there tomorrow But for the work I've taken on Stoking the star-maker machinery Behind the popular song - Free Man In Paris
Downtown The dance halls and cafes Feel so wild you could break somebody's heart Just doing the latest dance craze Gail and Louise In those push up brassieres Tight dresses and rhinestone rings Drinking up the band's beers Young love was kissing under bridges Kissing in cars Kissing in cafes - In France They Kiss On Main Street
5. Just songs that scream Harry?
Blue? the song? in its entirety? I absolutely see him drowning himself in this treasure:
Blue
Blue Songs are like tattoos You know I've been to sea before Crown and anchor me Or let me sail away
Hey, blue There is a song for you Ink on a pin Underneath the skin An empty space to fill in
Well, there's so many sinking now You gotta keep thinking You can make it through these waves Acid, booze, and ass Needles, guns, and grass Lots of laughs
Lots of laughs
Everybody's saying that Hell's the hippest way to go Well, I don't think so But I'm gonna take a look around it, though Blue, I love you
Blue, there is a shell for you Inside you'll hear a sigh A foggy lullaby Thеre is your song from me
And CONVERSATION? Don't imagine these songs comforting Harry man I'm crying in a corner. And again, this song has loads of parallels to Canyon Moon. I think, besides Carey, this one's has got to be a huge inspiration as well.
Conversation (from Ladies of the Canyon)
He comes for conversation I comfort him sometimes Comfort and consultation He knows that's what he'll find
I bring him apples and cheeses He brings me songs to play He sees me when he pleases I see him in cafes
And I only say, "Hello" And turn away before his lady knows How much I wanna see him She removes him like a ring To wash her hands She only brings him out to show her friends I wanna free him
Secrets and sharing soda That's how our time began Love is a story, told to a friend It's second hand
But I'll listen to his questions I'll give my answers when they'rе found He says she keeps him guessing But I know shе keeps him down
She speaks in sorry sentences Miraculous repentances I don't believe her Tomorrow he will come to me And he'll speak his sorrows endlessly And he'll ask me why Why can't I leave her?
He comes for conversation I comfort him sometimes Comfort and consultation He knows that's what he'll find He knows that's what he'll find
I'm almost done but, CALIFORNIA? Another one man, really:
California
Sitting in a park in Paris, France Reading the news and it sure looks bad They won't give peace a chance That was just a dream some of us had Still a lot of lands to see But I wouldn't wanna stay here It's too old and cold and settled in its ways here
Oh, but California California, I'm coming home I'm gonna see the folks I dig I'll even kiss a sunset pig California, I'm coming home
I met a redneck on a Grecian isle Who did the goat dance very well He gave me back my smile But he kept my camera to sell Oh, the rogue, the red, red rogue He cooked good omelets and stews And I might have stayed on with him there
But my heart cried out for you, California Oh, California, I'm coming home Oh, make me feel good rock 'n roll band I'm your biggest fan California, I'm coming home
Oh, it gets so lonely When you're walking And the streets are full of strangers All the news of home you read Just give you the blues Just give you the blues
So I bought me a ticket I got on a plane to Spain Went to a party down a red dirt road There were lots of pretty people there Reading Rolling Stone, reading Vogue They said, "How long can you hang around?" I said a week, maybe two Just until my skin turns brown
Then I'm going home to California California, I'm coming home Oh, will you take me as I am? Strung out on another man California, I'm coming home
Oh, it gets so lonely When you're walking And the streets are full of strangers All the news of home you read More about the war And the bloody changes
Oh, will you take me as I am? Will you take me as I am? Will you? Will you take me as I am? Mmm, mmm Take me as I am, mmm
So yeah, Joni Mitchell, man. Good stuff.
