god the pilot had the tone down. nat trips on acid pre-crash and sees her creepy classmate misty across the flames in a way that could just as easily be misty stalking her/the team from the outskirts as it could be a hallucination (i go back and forth on this all the time). then the bonfire turns into the fire from their cannibalistic rituals in the wilderness which seemingly implies that nat sees into the future for a moment but it could just be part of the nonlinear editing. pj harvey's eerie down by the water holds you by the hand and pulls you in deeper as the screen gets engulfed in flames. such a loaded and dualistic and tone-setting sequence. i want to live inside it

#the fact that its nat and misty bracketing it is insane they play such interesting roles in the Magic of it all #<-i keep trying to add the word 'unwitting' to the tag as in they UNWITTINGLY play these roles but tumblr will NOT let me like ok damn #fine message received. they not ENTIRELY unwittingly play these roles #mistynat #yellowjackets #misty quigley #natalie scatorccio #i know later seasons have contextualized this as happening because misty kills nat and sure 👍#but i think the pilot had a very different (more sinister) plotline for misty #i think paradoxically her love for nat softened her as they wrote her despite misty being nats death omen or whatever #so to me this scene could mean 10 different things depending on what im thinking about. today its about Duality #i really like when obscure 'magic realism' (for lack of a better term) is done well... its harder to do than it looks!#i like a lot of later season concepts a LOT but they are very tonally off to me #but this is one of the scenes that just nails it all around absolutely no notes im gonna think about it forever
