actually i do have an unpopular hypmic opinion, those homage songs (shinogi, drops, etc) understandably make people uncomfortable but the songs they sample/interpolate from serve a narrative function and i think it’s COOL

#this is vee speaking #like i get it!!!!!! shinogi got swimming pools for rhyme beat and flow and we don’t have any indication that they got permission to do so!!!#they don’t have to give us that proof as long as they did it’s fine but it makes others uncomfortable!!!!#but i think that sentiment can coexist with the flavour the songs they are inspired by brings to them!!!!!#like the opening verse in swimming pools (drank) is about watching people drink their lives away and picking that habit up themselves!!!!#is!!!!!! that not what happened with samatoki?????? he grew up on violence and in turn violence became his life!!!!#heck samatoki’s been seen trying to drown out his sorrows with alcohol!!!!! just like swimming pools!!!!!#maroon 5’s sugar that drops interpolates from!!!!! it’s surface level pop song about being broken without this girl’s love #*crying* tell me what pink coloured love is about like????#and ramuda needs candy and love to survive just like adam levine needed some sugar (love) to feel whole lol #and i never shared this but the sasasama duet is also a homage song!!!! it’s similar to crazy ken band’s ‘tiger and dragon’#and it’s about this man (presumably a yakuza) who lost his opposite his other half and just wants people to hear his tale #*enthusiastic gesturing* YAKUZA THAT LOST HIS OTHER HALF BRO SAMATOKI NEARLY CRIED BECAUSE SASARA LEFT CMON #i just think it’s neat 😭😭😭
