synopsis: changbin and juyeon officially deny their dating rumors; now itâs time to talk about it privately.
date: april 5th 2019
era: miroh
word count: 2.3k
featuring: kang juyeon, seo changbin, jyp, bang chan
warnings: n/a, just angst! maybe hinted misogyny at the end?
a/n: lied in that ask lol merry binchumas to those who celebrate! ps this occurs after their music bank performance! also ummm calling jyp âjinyoungâ is so weirddd (°_°)
âsoâŚiâm sure you both know why i called you in today,
changbin and juyeon sat anxiously before their boss in the jyp entertainment conference room with sweaty palms, tongues nearly bitten in half as he spoke.
âbut, i wanted to get on top of this issue before it could get too out of hand. especially since youâre in the same group. firstly, however,â
they swore they could guess what was coming next.
âcongratulations on your first win yesterday!â
juyeon and changbin let out a breath they had been holding since the moment they entered the room and smiled with the relief of some weight being lifted from their chests, thanking him humbly in unison.
âi have high hopes for the future of stray kids.â jinyoung eye-smiled in the same kindred way he always did to make others feel more comfortable in his authoritative presence. âi believe your time to really shine will come sooner than later, and i look forward to watching you all grow as artists.â
his smile fell now, replaced with that stone cold expression they had become quite familiar with during their trainee days. âbut, all of that starts with maintaining your images for the fans. so, iâd like to get a direct quote that explains the situation and clarifies the status of your relationship with one another.â
âbefore we begin,â jinyoung slid the notepad beside him closer to where he could write âiâll remind you that the company dating policy states that romantic relationships are strictly prohibited for the first 3 years after debut. in your case, this will be in 2021. i think as idols, the first three to five years after debut should be focused purely on promoting. so, with that said, is there anything in particular you would like to be cited?â
for the first time since sitting down the accused pair now looked at one another with knowing eyes. it was a good thing they read each other better than jyp because obviously they saw right through the others feigned innocence. juyeon was the first to turn back to their boss, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear before she spoke.
âumâŚi know to be more subtle showing affection to my members for the public eye, so i apologize for acting without thinking. i will be more careful with my actions moving forward.â
the older man nodded approvingly and began to transcribe her account on his notepad. at this same time, changbin nudged her foot with his own under the table, eyes meeting from the corners of their vision. his eyebrows just barely knitted together like he disapproved of what she said, and as jyp looked back up, juyeon shifted to cross her legs.
âso,â he sighed and clicked his pen a few times âiâm just gonna go right ahead and ask; are you two in a relationship?â
changbin was the one to speak this time. âno.â he said stolidly, his tone flat and almost disinterested. âweâre just friends.â
âclose friends.â she added
there was a moment of scrutiny from the man across the table who stared at them with narrowed, unmoving eyes. to be completely fair, both of their answers did sound a little uncertain, like they werenât on the same page about where they stood. yet, jinyoung simply nodded and jotted down their words.
âthat is good to hear, teamwork is an important piece of the puzzle. i hope this incident wonât impact your friendship.â
it was a blessing their boss wasnât paying them any mind when he said this. even the most oblivious person in the world could have noticed the thunderstorm that brewed between them, growling and snarling as lightning struck with his words. they shared another knowing glance.
the trip home was quiet.
changbin and juyeon walked side by side with an unfamiliar distance between them, sullen eyes wandering from the cold tile flooring every few seconds to get a glimpse of the other. neither dared to mention the dark clouds that hung over their heads and instead fell head first into the busy swirl of anxieties, only starting to get dizzy once they arrived at their front door. changbin prayed that someone - anyone - would be home to ease the aching tension between them but all hope was lost when he wiggled the handle to find it locked.
the younger boy sighed heavily as he fished in his pocket for the key and hurriedly unlocked the door, obviously frustrated and yet he still held it open for her.
once in the entryway they both turned away from one another to take their shoes off and throw their stuff down haphazardly by the door. from his spot on the ground to unlace his boots changbin could see juyeon face him for only a moment before she left to disappear around the corner of the living room, a heavy thud followed by a grumble echoing off the wooden floors. he finally worked the shoe off his heel and meekly followed after to find her slumped into the couch.
juyeon looked up at him through her dark lashes and, though her features were tainted with woe, she offered him a weak smile. changbin felt a kick to the chest and left a noticeable gap as he sat down beside her, his mannerisms and movements now much softer than just a few moments ago.
there was a good long pause where both of them searched for something to say. anything would have sufficed, honestly, because this melancholic silence was really starting to eat away at their shared sanity. or what little was left of it at this point.
âplease say something.â
sheâd never heard his voice so frail, so weak. like a child asking for reassurance that things were okay. and unfortunately, the older girl didnât have anything reassuring to say. she opted for another approach instead.
âsorry for getting you caught up in all this.â
changbin habitually reached out to tuck the stray hairs behind her ear so he could see her face but decided against it halfway. he sat back. âitâs a two-way street, joong. you canât take all the blame.â
âbut i am to blame.â she hummed, her gaze everywhere but him âwe wouldnât be here if i justâŚdidnât doâŚwhat i did...â
ââŚju.â
finally she looked back over at the delicate flower beside her who blinked away tears as he shifted in his seat. âiâm glad you did. if not i wouldâve spent the rest of my life wondering what it would be like. whatever itââ
he stopped himself. he knew what it was. they both did. and it was a part of the past now, there was no point in weaseling around anymore. still, he couldnât put the word to it.
ââit was nice. and for what itâs worth, i wouldnât change anything. if given another chance iâd do it all again. iâd rather die at your hands than never have felt them at all.â
she couldnât help but smile at his words. he was always so poetic.
âyouâre really special, you know that? i donât know if anyoneâs ever told you. i donât know if i ever told you. but i hope you know. there is no one else in the world that even comes close.â
while the older girl rarely allowed her painful emotions to be shown in front of anyone else, changbin was someone who wore his heart on his sleeve - feelings displayed before him for anyone to bear witness. so when he finally gave up on fighting the tears and let them fall in thick streams down his cheeks that met at the scar on his chin, juyeon had to look away.
âdonât do that.â her voice was shaky as she nudged him with her foot âiâm not going anywhere â neither are you. iâll be right here for a long time.â
he finally broke his gaze from her figure to wipe his wet face. âi know - i justâŚi just wish things were different. i donât want this chapter to be over yet.â
there was a beat before her response.
âiâll keep the corner folded on your page.â
her words resonated a bittersweet song that played on his heartstrings and when he was finally able to convince himself to look back over at the close friend beside him, there was already that familiar doting smile on her lips. he could feel his eyes getting wet again as she reached out to wipe the overlooked tear on his cheek and, for the first time, her touch left a sting.
âi know your feelings are locked up tight and all butâŚâ he winced âhow are you so okay?â
juyeon took a deep breath, subconsciously self-soothing. âi have to be. at least on the outside.â
âyou canât keep that up foreverâ
âit wonât be forever. just forâŚâ her comforting smile became muddled as the timeline began to unfold before her ââŚfor a while.â she said. her mouth tasted bitter.
he wanted to refute her claims - to tell her that it was okay to show them (him) how she really felt, especially in the privacy of their own dorm. but as he took just a second longer to think about it, he realized she was right. they werenât just automatically in the clear once the statement came out, and though heâd certainly have to make some adjustments, juyeon especially would be scrutinized far worse than he ever would. or any other member for that matter. it happened before for less. he just couldnât stop wishing that things were different; the people and the standards and their boss and â
âhey,â
her soft hum pulled him from the spiral.
âone day weâll look back and laugh about this. and things will be different, but itâll be okay. it is okay.â
changbin caught her fingers to pull her hand away from his cheek, deciding instead to cherish how perfectly the puzzle pieces of their palms fit together just one more time. he watched his thumb trace over the tattoo on the back of her hand and spoke so softly it was almost like he didnât want her to hear him.
âiâll ache over you until then.â
juyeon gave his hand a squeeze, and in that soft voice he used to adore, she put the final nail in the coffin that sealed their fate. maybe it was cruel of her; finally putting a word to it now of all times. but to her it was more like a secret message to the universe. like folding the corner of a page to revisit it later.
âthe love isnât going anywhere, bin. itâll always be here.â
without the context she kept hidden inside, her original theory was correct; it was cruel. and her choice of words hit him like a truck. though heâd never been stabbed before, changbin could imagine that it felt pretty similar to this. and just as the tears began to fall again, there was a commotion on the other side of the room.
the pained pair whipped their heads in horror to see what it was - who had just stumbled upon something they definitely shouldnât have - only to find chan waddling out of his room, eyes bleary with sleep. his hair stuck up in all places and as his focus zeroed-in on the recently accused chan was quickly brought back to reality.
âhey â are you okay? the meeting?â
changbin still hadnât gotten past that word yet; love. it rang in his ears like his morning alarms, jarring and above all else, frustrating. that just left juyeon to handle the damage control and thankfully she was quick to jump into action.
âmeeting went fine, binnie just felt bad i got in trouble.â she feigned nonchalance and fluffed his hair while he wiped his tears âbut itâs okay, nothingâs changing and there should be a statement soon.â
changbin sniffled and plastered on a weak smile with a thumbs up to help the cause. it seemed to work as chan nodded with a yawn.
âwell, iâm glad it went well. sorry you got in trouble, biya.â
she stood with a shrug, finally leaving the younger boysâ side to lighten the tension she felt with a joke as she grabbed a drink from the fridge. âitâs fine. just canât be friends with my friends on camera, thatâs all.â
chan chuckled dryly, âyouâre funny, but that actually makes me very sad.â
âwant a hug?â she offered over her shoulder as she unscrewed the lid.
âof course!â
the leader (who seemed like both the oldest and the maknae at times) giggled and happily bounced over to her, arms wrapping around her waist to lift her off her feet in a tight bear hug. he made incomprehensible squeaky noises as she wheezed and set her back down with a pat on the head.
juyeon laughed breathlessly as a result of having all the oxygen squeezed from her lungs. âbetter?â
âfor now.â chan beamed. the chirp! of a twitter notification made his phone vibrate in his pocket and upon checking it he looked back to changbin, tears gone but the emotion still prevalent. âthe rest of the boys should be bringing food home soon and then weâre going to the studio. you guys coming?â
both parties hummed in response.
he nodded and began to backpedal toward the bathroom. âkay, then iâm gonna go take a quick shower before i have to fight for it.â
âdonât slip!â juyeon called after him
âweâll see!â
chan entered the bathroom and made sure to lock it behind him before looking in the mirror to find the natural perplexed expression he had been biting back. did they think they were slick? juyeon and changbin may have been able to fly under the radar to their boss, but really, how could they ever deceive someone who knew them as well as chan did?

Books and best friends
A/N: Whaaaat? Another one so quickly? Well I guess I surprised myself too, since this one was created by looking at a single picture. Therefore, I present you with more Yelena and Kate fluff! Enjoy
Summary: When Kate disappears into her room for several days, Yelena pays her a visit to find out why exactly she disappeared
Warnings: none, just lots of fluff
Word Count: 2619
âHey Natasha, have you seen Kate around recently? Iâve been less annoyed than usual, which means that she has spent less time around me,â Yelena asked, half-serious half-jokingly as she walked up to her sister. It was late in the afternoon, and there was once again no sign from the young archer, who would usually spend her time lounging in the common room. It was not the first time Yelena had noticed her absence that week, and while she would never admit it out loud, there was a part of her slightly worried that something was wrong with Kate. Natasha scoffed and playfully glared at the blonde.
âI saw her this morning, but I think sheâs in her room right now. She talked about having bought several books in one go, so I think sheâs reading them. Why?â The older sister questioned, raising one brow at Yelena. The blonde merely shook her head with a shrug.
âNo reason,â She said, yet didnât look Natasha in the eyes.
â... Do you miss her?â Natasha asked, a smile appearing on her face. Almost immediately Yelena shook her head and folded her arms with a frown.Â
âI do not miss her! Why would you ever think that?â Yelena huffed, yet couldnât hide the blush creeping onto her cheeks as her sister looked at her for a few long seconds. Natashaâs smile grew wider as she noticed the blush, knowing enough.Â
âYou do miss her,â Natasha chuckled, earning a groan from her sister. No matter how hard Yelena tried to hide something from her, her sister could always tell when she was lying. It was infuriating.
âUgh, youâre the worst,â She said, turning on her heels to leave the kitchen, and Natasha, behind her. She heard her sister laugh and yell âsay hi from me!â, which earned another loud groan, as she made her way to Kateâs room. And while she tried to ignore it, she couldnât deny the excitement she was feeling as she thought of seeing Kate again.
Kate was currently sitting on her couch in her apartment, surrounded by at least five books - minus the one in her hands - with her tongue slightly sticking out of her mouth. After a brief conversation with Peter the other day (he had shown her a few books from his collection, and she had been enchanted to say the least) Kate had decided that she officially didnât have enough books. While her mother had always tried to ignore or discourage her love for fantasy when she was younger, there was literally nobody stopping her now. So, now she had about a dozen new books laying around in her room, and she couldnât wait to read them all.
A sudden knock on the door made her look up in surprise, as she didnât expect company. Maybe it was Natasha checking up on her if she was still alive, or Peter to see the new books she had bought.
âDoor is open!â She said, and while she definitely tried her hardest, she was unable to hide her surprised expression when Yelena stepped into her room. She had not expected the younger Widow to visit her.
âSo hereâs where youâve been hiding, huh?â The blonde said with a smirk, closing the door behind her. Kate immediately sat up on the couch, remembering the page she was at before closing the book to put it aside.
âHey Yelena! Sorry, I didnât expect to see you today,â She said with a chuckle, a wide smile appearing on her face as she looked at her friend.Â
âWell I noticed it was remarkably quieter in the living room, which meant you werenât there. And what kind of friend would I be if I didnât annoy you on a daily basis,â Yelena said with a smile, yet Kate could sense some kind of awkwardness behind it. The assassin was still testing the boundaries of their friendship, and while Yelena found it a very weird concept that she could go see Kate whenever she wanted, Kate couldnât be happier. She knew that Yelena would have never come to her if it wasnât necessary a year ago, so for her to show up in her room without a specific reason was proof that they were friends.Â
Kate smiled widely at Yelena and patted the couch next to her, an invitation to sit with her. The blonde, seemingly relieved, smirked and made her way towards the couch, yet stopped as she noticed all the books laying on the ground.
âKate Bishop, did you rob a library or what?â She asked with a raised brow as she looked at the younger girl. The archer let out a giggle and looked somewhat embarrassed at the messy floor.
âAh, it definitely looks that way, huh? No, I went shopping a few days ago, and I got around fifteen new books and comics! Wanna see?â She asked, sounding a little uncertain herself now. She had no idea if Yelena would be interested in her books in the first place.Â
âWait wait, if you went shopping for comics, that meansâŚâ Yelena said, quickly glancing around the room for a moment. âAha! I knew it!â She said triumphantly, reaching down to pick up a collection of Hawkeye comics.
âNo! Give them back!â Kate cried out, a blush of embarrassment covering her cheeks as she lunged for Yelena, who heartily laughed at the archerâs reaction.Â
âAnd you dare say you donât have a crush on Barton? Oh Katie, youâre such a liar!â Yelena teased, easily keeping Kate at bay by placing a hand on one of her shoulders. However, over time Kate had learned several tricks from Natasha, meant to use when Yelena was being a turd. She reached forward - her arms were still longer than Yelenaâs - and briefly tickled under the blondeâs arm. While the Widow shrieked and curled in on herself, the brunette leaned forward and snatched the comics from her other hand.
âThere! And now they stay here!â Kate said with a nervous giggle, trying not to shrink at the glare Yelena was giving her.
âYou did not just do that⌠oh youâre gonna regret that, Katie,â Yelena playfully warned, earning another giggle from the brunette. However, her attention quickly shifted to one of the comics on the couch next to Kate. It was a comic about Black Widow. She reached out and carefully grabbed it, finding it odd and fascinating to see a comic about her sister.
âItâs the first of many, and I have a few more somewhere in my room! You can read it, if you want,â Kate suggested with a warm smile, earning a gentle yet firm nod from her friend. Kateâs heart swelled at the thought of Yelena reading comics with her in her room, realizing that she had reached the next step in their friendship.
Yelena sat herself down in front of the couch, her back leaning against it, as she started reading the comic, while Kate reached for one of her Hawkeye comics. The two women sat in a comfortable silence for a while, with the occasional âha, such a poserâ or chuckle coming from the blonde, until Kate shifted position. Her right leg was stretched out, and the other one folded underneath, her bare foot now facing Yelena. The Widow noticed right away and curled up her nose, looking up at the brunette.
âKate Bishop, do you HAVE to aim your stinky foot at me?â She basically whined, making Kate look up at her with a laugh. Yelena could be so dramatic over small things, and she found it rather cute.
âWell, if you donât like the view, you can always move,â She teased, going back to reading her comic. Yelena huffed and reached out with her hand, running a single nail up her foot.
âI donât see how I have to move becauââ She said, yet was interrupted by Kateâs loud, giggly squeal. The two women looked at each other, Kate with a nervous expression and Yelena with a rather mischievous one. The brunette immediately noticed the dangerous glint in her eyes and tried to shift position, yet Yelena was quicker and had already latched a hand around Kateâs ankle.Â
âWell if you donât want to move by yourself, then Iâll have to make you move, right?â Yelena said with a teasing grin, lightly scratching her nails against the bottom of her foot. Kate immediately burst into giggles and reached for Yelenaâs hands, her comic dropping to the side.
âY-Yelena nohoho! NO! No wahahahait! Aahahaha that tihihihihickles!!â The brunette giggled loudly, earning an eye-roll and chuckle from Yelena.
âYeah duh thatâs the point, you dumbass,â She said with an even wider grin, moving her nails up to scratch under her toes, sending Kate straight into hysterics. The brunette rolled side to side, giggling her head off as she pushed against Yelenaâs shoulder.
âYelehehehehhena plehehehhehehease!! I cahahahahahahahahanât!!â She squealed, curling her toes tightly since she was unable to handle the gentle tickles. Yelena cackled and started to firmly scratch at her helpless heel.
âKeep reading that comic of yours, Katie, go on, donât mind me,â Yelena teased, letting out a giggle herself as she heard Kateâs contagious laughter. The archerâs laughter had gone from giggles to deep-belly laughs as a reaction to the heel tickles, laying herself flat on her back while covering her face with one arm. Yelena took this opportunity to jump up onto the couch, straddling the younger girlâs hips.
âThatâll teach you,â Yelena grinned, shaking her nails into Kateâs stomach. Said brunette let out a shriek of laughter, both arms immediately lowering to cover her stomach.Â
âNOHOHHOHO! NOHOHO LEHEHENA STAHAHAHAHAP!â Kate cried out, pushing half-heartedly against the blondeâs buff arm to make her stop. She really hoped Yelena wouldnât mind the nickname, since it had slipped out before she could stop herself, but surviving the tickle attack was a bigger priority now. The Widow chuckled at her attempt, slipping one hand under Kateâs shirt to tickle her bare stomach. The brunetteâs eyes nearly bugged out at that, causing her to arch her back.Â
âAwww, does it tickle too much for poor Katie?â The blonde teased, using both hands to knead up and down her sides and ribs, occasionally giving her stomach a few scratches. Kate was positively dying.
âAahahahahaAAAHAHAHA!! Lehehehehhena why aahahare you dohohohoing thihihihis?!â Kate shrieked with laughter, and for some reason Yelena felt caught off guard by the question. She pulled her hands away and realized what position they were in, and how easy it was to let her guard down when she was messing with the younger girl. Kate noticed Yelenaâs expression and leaned onto her elbows to sit up, slowly catching her breath.
âI thought you⌠nevermind. Sorry if I overstepped, I guess I just missed messing with you,â Yelena said, embarrassed as she started to shift off of Kate. While she was usually very confident in everything she did, including messing with Kate, the sudden question had surprised her. She had never had a friend like Kate before - someone else than Natasha who she felt at ease with - and while Yelena had heavily disliked her before, now she was at the point where she truly cared for Kate. Natasha would always be her number one person in the world, yet she would be lying if she said she wasn't afraid to be rejected by the brunette. However, before she could get off, or overthink any further, Kate had grabbed one of her arms and gently held onto it, making the blonde look down at her friend.
âHey, I didnât mean it that way Yelena⌠I donât mind if you tickle me, I was just surprised since you usually have a specific reason for it,â She assured with her typical smile, a blush covering her cheeks as she looked up at the older girl. When Yelena merely stared at her, Kate flashed her another smile.Â
âYou didnât overstep, Lena, I like being tickled by my friends,â The brunette said, looking away for a moment as she admitted the embarrassing truth. âAnd Iâm having fun right now, with you,â She added. The Widow blushed at that last comment, her hands shooting down to squeeze at Kateâs ribs.
âKate Bishop, you dare make me feel embarrassed AND make me blush?â She growled, yet there was a smirk visible on her face. Kate let out another shriek in surprise and immediately burst into giggles again, feeling relieved. She had feared for Yelenaâs reaction, yet it seemed there was nothing to worry about.
âIâm sohohhhorry! Nohohhoohohhooho!â She giggled loudly when Yelenaâs hands found her stomach again, yet this time she didnât even bother to stop those hands. She merely covered her face with her arms to hide her blush.
âToo late for apologies now, Katie. Say your prayers, Iâm gonna tickle you to death,â Yelena teased, back to her confident self as she continued to tickle the poor archer to pieces. Kate rolled side to side on the couch, letting her laughter flow freely as she realized Yelena wasnât gonna stop anytime soon. And neither of them really minded, since they both were having fun.
Natasha put down the book she had just finished and looked at the clock. It had been several hours since Yelena had asked where Kate was, and while she could have sworn sheâd heard Kateâs loud laughter at one point, there hadnât been a sound from either of them in a long while. While Natasha knew that Yelena probably wouldnât have murdered Kate, there was no harm in checking up on them, right? Right!
The redhead made her way to Kateâs apartment, knocking on the door a few times. There was a familiar âdoorâs open!â coming from inside, which made her chuckle and open the door. What she saw inside was far from what she had expected, however. Kate was laying down on her stomach on the ground, reading one of her new books, with Yelena laying across Kateâs back, seemingly reading one of Kateâs comics.
âTasha!â Kate cried out, a wide smile spreading on her face as she saw her friend. Yelena let out a chuckle as she looked up at her sister, raising an eyebrow.
âDonât worry Poser, I didnât kill your precious puppy,â She said, earning a huff from her sister. Yelena knew her a little too well.Â
âActually,â Natasha said, looking at the two of them with a smile. âI was about to order food, should I order anything for you two as well?â She questioned. Both women immediately nodded excitedly at the mention of food.
âPizza!â
âMac & cheese!â
Natasha couldnât hold back her laugh at the two simultaneous shouts, shaking her head as she looked at the X-shaped pile of idiots on the floor. She truly loved them to death.
âAlright, Iâll go order now, food should be here in around an hour,â Natasha said to them, before realizing that neither of them were listening anymore.
âLena, you eat mac & cheese every day, you can go without it for one day,â Kate said with a roll of her eyes. However, she quickly relented when she saw one of Yelenaâs hands move towards her side. After all, she was still trapped underneath the blonde.
âKate Bishopââ
âOkay okay, mac & cheese is fine!â Kate cried out, bursting into giggles when the Widow squeezed her side.Â
Natasha shook her head as she closed the door behind her, listening to Kateâs laughter as she made her way to the living room again. For the longest time she had been worried for both Kate and Yelena, since Kate had been lonely for such a long time and Yelena had had so much trouble opening up to people. And now, with them being close friends, it seemed like she finally didnât have to worry at all.

Benny Watts/The Queens Gambit imagines - From Pawn to Pen Part 1
AN: So I watched the Queens Gambit in one day and I am officially obsessed with it. And how dare it bring back my crush on Thomas Brodie Sangster... Due to this... Have a fanfic...
Overall Summary: Youâre a young journalist for Chess Review, with a love for chess and a desire for knowledge. One day at a tournament, you come across the famous Benny Watts...
Pairing(s): Benny Watts x reader
Word Count: 2,504
Warnings: (I know nothing about chess except what the show taught me so bare that in mind), none really
Another state, another tournament.Â
Your work had you travel round to even the smallest of Chess Tournaments to try and get the dirt on up and coming chess players or already existing champions.Â
You inhaled the familiar smell of a hotel lobby, taking in your surroundings as people bustled about the place.Â
It was one of the bigger tournaments fortunately and so you were hoping to run into some champions which tend to give you better pages which equals better pay.Â
You walked up to the front desk, your eyes scanning the small tables as far as the eye could see where chess boards were being studied in case you recognised any chess players.Â
You did but they were all the standard normies that showed their faces at these events. No one noteworthy yet.Â
âCan I help you?â The slim man behind the desk with slicked back red hair flashed you a toothy smile as he greeted you.Â
â(Y/n)(Y/l/n).â You introduced yourself and the man soon flicked through his booking sheets to find your reservation.Â
âRoom 209. If you just head down this hall to the elevators, itâs on the second floor.â The man pointed towards the elevators where you managed to spot the flash of bright auburn hair entering one of them.Â
Beth Harmon.Â
You smiled with relief as you started to sew the piece in your head already.Â
âThank you.â You took the key and made your way down to elevators.Â
As the elevator door dinged open, some commotion by the entrance of the lobby caught your attention.Â
The peak of leather through the crowd told you who it was.Â
Benny Watts.Â
Even better. You now had two top chess players you could focus on.Â
You decided to let the celebrity champion settle into his hotel before you mobbed him as a journalist and you also needed to freshen up after travelling.Â
You travelled so much that you barely bothered with your apartment. It was mostly rented out to other people besides holidays like Christmas where you actually could return home.Â
Everything you had was basically in two large suitcases which you dragged across the United States and Europe following chess players around.Â
You mainly liked travelling around Europe. You previously worked for a Parisian chess magazine but this year you took an offer to work for Chess Review which brought you back to the states.Â
You had mostly done smaller tournaments all year round so hadnât had the pleasure in meeting Benny Watts or Beth Harmon yet.Â
Benny Watts had been one of the biggest names in chess for years now and Beth Harmon was a rapid rising star.Â
You knew this would be your big break in Chess Review to stop being handed the small tournaments and to document the important ones like the US Open.Â
You opened the door to your hotel room and smiled when you saw how nice it actually was.Â
You had stayed in some crap holes recently.Â
You dumped your suitcases to one side and immediately turned on the shower so you could relax your cramped muscles and feel a bit cleaner.
You undressed and let the hot water cascade down your back, covering your hair and face as you tipped your head backwards.Â
You took your time in there before getting out and blow drying your hair.Â
By the time you had washed, done your hair and make up again; it was time to pick a dress for the evening so you could go get something to eat.Â
You went for your favourite navy blue skirt and cream sweater, both hugged you nicely but were still modest, before slipping on some shoes.Â
You took a small purse to put your room key in and then left for the restaurant/bar that was in the hotel.
The restaurant was filled with chess players and spectators all buzzing with excitement about this weekend.Â
You managed to find a small table away from the majority of the hustle and tucked yourself away with your notepad.Â
You liked being a fly on the wall most of the time. You enjoyed observing, studying and learning about people. âPeople watchingâ as some would call it.Â
The waiter brought over the cocktail you had ordered along with some grapes, cheese and crackers to munch on.Â
After writing some of the thoughts down that came to you in the shower, you looked up to see who was around you.Â
There was no sign of Beth Harmon which wasnât unusual as she was known for practising in her room before tournaments.Â
You scanned the groups before your eyes stopped on him. Benny Watts.Â
His slick blonde hair fell slightly by his eye, his hat on his lap as he talked to the surrounding fans and admirers.Â
The man loved talking about himself and loved talking about Chess even more.Â
You watched him for a moment, the way his eyes were alight as he laughed amongst his peers.Â
Benny must've felt someone was watching him because a second later, his eyes met yours for a brief moment.Â
You looked down and pretended to write something down as Benny turned his chin this time to look at you again.Â
You were used to being invisible and in that moment you felt extremely seen.Â
However, the man didnât move from his chair or even look another time after that.Â
You popped a grape in your mouth before taking a large sip of your drink. Youâd have to talk to him tomorrow and you knew that but for the first time, you actually felt the bubbles of nerves rise in stomach.
âMay I buy you a drink?â A voice brought you from your thoughts and you looked up to see Henry Cavilla, one of the regular American chess players whom you believed youâd seen only two months before in Denver.Â
âIâm fine, thank you.â You declined politely but the man sat down anyway, joining you at your table.Â
âI insist.â Henryâs smile spread widely on his lips as he waved a waiter over. âI saw you in Denver. Youâre a journalist, am I right?âÂ
âYes. For Chess Review.â You had to hide your irritation at his boldness.
âHow long you been doing that?â The man asked,Â
âWell Iâve been a journalist for three years, but Iâve only been at Chess Review for 6 months.â You admitted honestly as the man ordered two drinks for the table.Â
âWhatâs a beautiful girl like you doing reporting on chess? Thought youâd be more into what Beth Harmon was wearing than her Sicilian defence.âÂ
âI could ask you a similar thing? Whatâs a mediocre, chino wearing, middle aged  misogynist doing at a chess tournament where Beth Harmon and Benny Watts are playing?â You couldnât help but let the words slip out of your mouth, slapping the man right round the face.Â
You watched the manâs smile drop following a small burst of laughter echoing through the restaurant.Â
Your head snapped round to see it was Benny Watts laughing, staring directly at your table. He mustâve heard what you said despite the rest of the restaurant noise.Â
âListen here, sweetheart, youâre just a skirt hired to keep your boss man happy and to fuck the chess players into a one page interview so you can get your paycheck to fund your morning after pill from planned parenthood and buy yourself some clean panties youâd sooner have off anyways.â You hit a nerve with what you said and he seemed to hit one right back.  Â
You threw the two new drinks in the mans face, causing most of the restaurant to stop and stare at the commotion as he jumped to his feet to retaliate.Â
You snatched your notebook and fled the scene before anything worse could happen or you get thrown out of the tournament all together.Â
You fell back onto your bed, kicking your shoes off as you did.Â
It wasnât unusual for men to be putting you down, especially in the chess world and the journalist world but tonight you just weren't having any of it.Â
You groaned as you pushed your hair out of your face, replaying the event in your head. The way everyone stared after you threw the drinks in his face.Â
You did not need to be the centre of attention this weekend.Â
You put yourself to bed with the television playing so you could stop scolding yourself in your head and distract yourself to finally get some sleep.Â
The next morning you woke up early, getting ready quickly and making sure you had everything you needed for a full day of reporting.Â
You skipped breakfast, only taking a black coffee before you entered the battle field.
The chess boards were still being set up and from across the room you spotted the familiar hair colour that belonged to Beth Harmon.Â
âBeth? Beth Harmon?â You crossed the room to greet her. âIâm (Y/n)(Y/l/n) from Chess Review. I was wondering if I could get an opening statement before the tournament goes ahead this weekend?â You asked politely, trying your best not to attack her verbally this early in the morning,Â
âUh, of course. Iâm feeling very confident this weekend that Iâll quickly rise to the top, concluding the tournament opposite Benny Watts.â Beth admitted,Â
âAre you scared of Benny Watts?â You asked,Â
âScared? No. I am merely curious to see how our game goes.â Beth admits.Â
âWell, good luck, Beth. I hope to catch up with you sometime this weekend for a brief interview of how you play your games if you donât mind?â You asked politely, silently begging sheâd say yes.Â
âIâll speak with you tomorrow night. Itâll be the middle of the tournament so thereâll be plenty to talk about.â Beth was extremely nice in offering her time and you took it gratefully.Â
You left the girl to her own company and returned to the lobby where you could see a crowd already gathering.Â
âMr Watts.â You spotted the leather jacket and hat as the man entered the breakfast room.Â
The man turned when he heard his name being called across the lobby and you quickly jogged to catch up to him.Â
âYouâre the girl from last night who put Henry Cavilla in his place?â Benny Watts smirked at you as he recalled the previous nights events.Â
âUm.â You felt your cheeks flush in embarrassment. âI was just wondering if I could get a statement before the tournament began?âÂ
âYouâre a reporter?â Benny cocked his eyebrow at you, his eyes scanning you up and down shamelessly.Â
âYes. For Chess Review.â You informed him.Â
âFollow me.â Benny nodded his head sideways towards the table he was heading to and you did as you were told.Â
âI was wondering how you were feeling about this weekend and possibly going up against Beth Harmon?â You asked as you sat yourself down opposite the man.Â
âI wonât be possibly going up against Beth Harmon. I fully expect to be going up against her. Out of everyone here, she is the only person I see as potential competition.â Benny admitted, picking up his knife and fork as his breakfast was set down on the table.Â
âAre you sure thereâs no one else? Harry Beltik went into his tournament in Kentucky assuming no one but Cullen was any competition to him and yet Beth Harmon came along.â You stated, jotting down some notes to avoid watching the man eat.Â
âWell then, theyâll just have to surprise me.â His eyes locked onto yours when he spoke. His lip just edging into a smirk.Â
âThank you for your statement.â You felt your stomach flip and you jumped to your feet, gathering your things.Â
âWould you not like a full interview or was the three sentence statement enough?â Benny cocked his head round as you began to leave.Â
âIt was four, actually.â You corrected him, tapping your notepad with your pen.Â
The man huffed out a short chuckle.Â
âIâd be grateful for an interview later on this weekend, Mr Watts, if you donât mind?âÂ
âIâll find you when Iâm ready.â Benny told you and from the look in his eyes, thatâs what he really meant.Â
The day went by quicker than expected, it was impossible to watch every game of the day so you watched Bethâs and Bennyâs and you filled yourself in with the plays of any others that would make good press.Â
You loved watching the game being played, you always tried to predict the outcome and 9 times out of 10 you got it correct except with Beth Harmon and Benny Watts.
They surprised you and it was thrilling to watch. You admired Harmonâs intuition and her attacks. Watts had always been an interesting watch all through his career but youâd only seen him play a handful of times in person before today.
In the evening, you received a call from the big bosses asking how everything was going.Â
âI have an interview set up with Beth Harmon and Benny Watts.â You told them with confidence.Â
âGood girl. Now get those interviews done quickly and send me a draft as soon as you can.â Your boss ordered before ending the call.Â
You sighed, running a hand over your tired face.Â
You picked up the bottle of wine you had in a metal cooler to see it was empty. Room service had taken so long to bring it up previously, you decided to just slip your slippers on and head down to the bar to get one final glass of wine before bed.Â
You were wearing a nightie so you pulled a coat on over the top in case you bumped into anyone.
As you walked down the hall, you could hear the familiar voice of Benny Watts behind you.Â
He was spewing some chess facts to whoever he was with as he walked.Â
You peaked behind your shoulder to see he was heading to his room which was three doors up from yours.Â
He spotted you too.Â
You went into the elevator to head down to the bar.Â
The bar was still busy despite the time and you had to wait for your wine.Â
You took the glass and returned to your room.Â
Your eyes couldnât help but linger on the hotel room of Mr Benny Watts as you thought of tomorrows games.Â
âYouâre not stalking me, are you?â Benny startled you as he came up from behind.Â
âJesus...â You gasped, spinning round to face him.Â
âTrying to get the dirt on who Iâm sleeping with?â The man cocked his eyebrow, his hands tucked in his tight jeans.Â
âSeems like the other way round since you keep appearing behind me.â You referred to earlier.Â
âMaybe you just like being in my way?â You couldnât deny that Benny Watts, the Benny Watts, was flirting with you right now.Â
âGoodnight Mr Watts. Good luck tomorrow.â You gripped your door handle tightly.Â
âPlease, call me Benny.âÂ

A Small Surprise
Another week had passed since your encounter with Cillian at the theatre and you missed interacting with him, especially now that you broke up with Darcy once again.
Once again, Darcy had become verbally abusive towards you and you were devastated and upset about his behaviour. You became to realise that, most probably, he wonât ever change. You often thought about Cillianâs words. You were too young to be wasting your time on someone like this.
But, despite your breakup, Darcy called you at least ten times a day, trying to apologise. You ignored his calls, but, unfortunately for you, you still had to interact with him at theatre practice and art school.
At least, Anita was there for you and tried her best to prevent you and Darcy from having arguments while dealing with each other in a professional capacity. But it wasnât easy.
Since your latest and hopefully final break up, Anita had also tried to hook you up with her brother, but you really werenât interested in dating anyone after what you have encountered with Darcy.
Despite your disinterest in dating, you struggled to get one man out of your head and this was Cillian.
Since you became to know what he was doing for a living, you could evermore so understand his reluctance to get involved with someone your age. It would almost be clichĂŠ for an actor to date someone half his age. The backlash would almost be ridiculous.
In the same vein, you were really not keen on dating an actor. The ridiculous filming schedules, the gossip and the fact that people would look at you differently would certainly upset you and make you uncomfortable.
Yet, you couldnât forget about him and the kiss you shared. The kiss he initially returned and which felt so amazingly good.
There was something about him that you hadnât found in any man before. It was almost like you had known him for years and yet, you barely knew him at all. You felt comfortable in his presence and it felt natural to be around him.
With these thoughts on your mind, it was easy for you to let go of Darcy this time around eve though you knew that you could never have Cillian. Or could you?
It was a Sunday afternoon that Craig came home after spending some time at the pub celebrating a friendâs birthday.
He looked somewhat tipsy when he walked inside and Ella became rather frustrated with him. It was almost too funny to watch.
You noticed him carrying a paper back.
âY/N, this is for youâ Craig said as he handed the bag to you.
âUhm, thank youâ you said, surprised by his gesture.
âOh, donât thank me. Cillian asked me to give this to you so thank himâ Craig said, unsure about what was in the bag. He believed Cillianâs gesture to be odd but didnât dare to question it.
You walked into your room, curious about what was in the bag.
Unsurprisingly, it was a book entitled âThe History of Irish Theatreâ.
You and Cillian had talked about this book following your little incident at his house.
He thought that it was very educational for anyone who is interested in Irish literature and play writes and he said that, when he goes back to his house, he would get it for you so that you could read it.
You opened the book, very keen to read it.
To your surprise, Cillian had left you a note inside which, amongst other things, contained his mobile phone number and an offer to help you with rehearsing the play if you needed it and wanted an outsiderâs opinion.
He also was kind to tag the pages relevant to your play in the 350 page book.
You took out your phone and saved his number before texting him to say thank you.
He responded almost immediately. His response was short but that is what you would have expected from a man in his 40s.
About an hour later, you received another text message from him.
âI have four tickets to a play at the Abbey which I think you might like. You could go with some friends from your theatre group and your boyfriend. Unfortunately, itâs for a Sunday night thoughâ he texted.
You responded by thanking Cillian for the offer and telling Cillian that you had broken up with Darcy before taking the courage to ask him whether he would be interested to come with you to see the play.
An hour after your text, you still hadnât received a response and you regretted asking him. After what happened between you, you thought that you must have taken it too far.
Another twenty minutes later, as you were in the shower, the phone rang.
You quickly jumped out of the shower and answered your phone while the water was still running in the background.
âHi, Cillianâ you said shyly as you shivered, still being wet from the shower.
âAm I calling you at a bad time?â Cillian asked, observing the background noise through the phone.
âNo no, not at allâ you said.
âWhatâs that noise?â he asked.
âUhm, I was just having a showerâ you said and, just after you said this, you realised how inappropriate your comment was once again. There was an awkward silence on Cillianâs end following your comment.
âRightâ he said before taking a pause.
âAbout Sunday, I have seen the play already with some friends but I am happy to take you if you wantâ he said before taking another pause. âAs a friend that isâ he added, qualifying his offer.
âOf course, yesâ you said shyly.
âI think that, if we go together, I should probably invite Craig and Ella and suggest that you come with themâ Cillian suggested, being mindful that, otherwise, this might awkward.
âYes, sounds goodâ you said.
âGreat, I will let you get back to your shower thenâ Cillian said with a laugh.
âAlrightâŚand thanksâ you said.
âYou are welcomeâ Cillian responded before hanging up.
To your surprise, a day later, Cillian told you that Craig and Ella werenât interested in the play but had no problem with you going to see it with Cillian and some other friends.
You felt somewhat awkward about Craig and Ella knowing that you were going to see a play with their mutual friend. But Cillian assured you that they didnât think anything of it. In Ireland, everyone was friendly and welcoming and interactions like this werenât suspicious. In fact, Cillian had even told Craig that he had offered to help you with your theatre project and that he believed that the play you were going to see would really help you with your perspective on contemporary Irish theatre. With Cillian being double your age, Craig simply thought that it was a nice gesture and Craig also knew that Cillian could do with some friendly company after yet another fight with his fiancĂŠe.
Instead of Craig and Ella, Cillian ended up inviting his youngest sister Janet and her husband John. They both enjoyed theatre and had recently returned to live in Dublin after spending five years together in London.
You met Cillian and his sister and her husband at the theatre and they were very welcoming. You thought it was going to be strange, meeting Cillianâs family, but it wasnât at all. His sister was in her late twenties and you could relate to her.
You talked about many things before the play started and she was surprised when she learned that you were only 20 years old. According to her, you appeared very mature for your age.
Change of Mind
âYou know sheâs nice, smart and very prettyâ Janet said to Cillian about you after you excused yourself to go to the bathroom right before the play started.
âAnd she is 20 years old and I am still in a relationshipâ Cillian chuckled in response to her comment.
âAnd here you are, choosing to attend this play with her instead of your fiancĂŠeâ Janet giggled.
âBecause my fiancĂŠe and I are taking a break and Y/N is just a friendâ Cillian chuckled.
âI think you already made up your mind about your fiancĂŠe. I know you brother. I am not blind either. I can see the way you look at Y/N. You like her a lotâ Janet said.
âJanet, she is 20. Now can we change the topic pleaseâ Cillian said firmly.
âSo what if she is 20?...I like her. She seems niceâ Janet said before her husband John had to comment just like a man would.
âJust count yourself lucky Cillian. Not every man your age has a shot with a young woman like her. Also, you wouldnât be the first actor who goes there trust meâ John said, causing Cillian to chuckle.
âEnough now, pleaseâ Cillian said just as you returned from the bathroom.
When you returned to the table where Cillian, Janet and John were standing, you finally heard the theatre bell. Cillian seemed somewhat relieved that the play was about to start and you made your way inside, taking your seats.
Just as you sat down, you saw Darcy with his parents and brother. Your heart sunk and you hoped that he would not see you. But he did, almost immediately.
The situation had officially become awkward and, just as Darcy saw you, his father spotted you and Cillian as well.
He came over to greet you and Cillian which, instantly, raised a lot of questions.
Cillian explained to Darcyâs father that you were a friend and, just as he did, the bell rang again, telling everyone to take their seat.
This was lucky, preventing Darcyâs father from asking more questions.
Darcyâs father excused himself and, luckily for you, Darcy was at his best behaviour with his parents being around.
During the interval, Darcy greeted you politely and that was it. He didnât acknowledge Cillian, Janet and John and there werenât any further interactions from his side.
After the play had finished, Janet suggested that you all go to Cillianâs house for a drink and some pizza. After all, you hadnât had dinner yet.
You agreed and picked up some Pizza and a couple of bottles of wine on the way.
To your surprise however, Janet excused herself pretty much straight after dinner and a glass of wine.
âWell, John and I have to get up very early tomorrowâ Janet said.
âWe do?â John asked.
âYes darling, donât you remember the thing at your work?â Janet asked, giving John a nudge.
âThe thing at my work?....Oh right, the thing at my work. I forgotâ John said.
âWell, we will be going, but you two should really finish this bottle of wineâ Janet said and you observed her winking at Cillian.
Cillian sighed before giving his sister a kiss on the cheek and saying goodbye.
âUhm that was strangeâ you giggled just as Janet and John left. âI just finish this and will call a taxiâ you said, pointing to your full glass of wine.
âYes, my sister is strange indeedâ Cillian chuckled, knowing exactly what his sister had in mind.
âSo how did you like the book?â Cillian went on to ask to change the topic.
âItâs fantastic. In particular the actorâs notes on the scenes. Although, there is one thing no one really talks about and I have been trying hard to find material on itâ you said.
âAnd what is that?â Cillian asked curiously.
âHow do you act a scene where you have to kiss someone. I mean, do you actually kiss them on stage? How about on screen? I mean, you would have the answer to this wouldnât you?â you said.
âI doâ Cillian laughed.
âWell then please enlighten me. I am curiousâ you said.
âOn screen, depending on the angle of the camara, you most often donât get around kissing. Your lips touch. Itâs as simple as thatâ Cillian said.
âBut is it different from a normal kiss?â you asked.
âNot reallyâ Cillian said. âBut, in saying this, for theatre, no one from the audience will be close enough to see what you are doing so just give the guy a peck if you feel too uncomfortable to kiss himâ Cillian laughed, knowing that the play you were doing included a scene just like this.
âI am glad you can laugh about itâ you said sheepishly.
âWell, I know for a fact that youâve kissed a man before so I think you will be fine. Just donât think about it as a kiss. Think about it as an act. I guarantee you that, when you are in character with a complex script like yours, it will just come naturallyâ Cillian said.
âI suppose you are right. I mean, at least itâs not Darcy who I have to kiss on stageâ you laughed.
âWell, there you goâ Cillian said just as an awkward silence erupted between you again.
âSpeaking of which, I have actually been thinking about our kiss more often than I should haveâ you said shyly.
âY/N, we agreed that we would forget about what happened that morningâ Cillian said.
âWe did. But I canâtâ you said before taking a pause. âCan you?â you asked.
âIâve been tryingâ he chuckled, causing you to smile.
âPerhaps you should stop trying and kiss me again. Just once more and I will never mention it againâ you said as you walked over towards him.
âI am twice your age Y/N. You do realise that, right?â Cillian said as you took his hands suggestively, indicating that you wanted him to stand up.
âYes, I do and I like itâ you giggled before biting your lip. Your comment made Cillian raise his eye brows and laugh.
âYou could be with someone your own age Y/N. I am sure you get plenty of offers. So why me?â he asked as he stood up in front of you, running his hand over your cheek and moving part of your hair away from your face and behind your ear.
âBecause you are intelligent, kind and not afraid to be yourself. I like that. Despite, I also think that you are incredibly attractiveâ you whispered shyly.
âBut, if you donât like me then just tell me and I accept thatâ you added after Cillian didnât respond to your comment.
âI like you alright. But I know that it would be a very bad idea if were to get involved with each otherâ Cillian said quietly.
âMaybe. Maybe notâ you said and, just like this, Cillian leaned forward and pressed his lips on to yours.
The kiss was gentle and Cillian caressed your face with his warm hands while his soft lips explored yours. Your lips moved in sync with his for a moment until he pulled away slightly.
âWe should not be doing thisâ Cillian said and, just after he did, you decided that, this time, he wouldnât get away that easily and you crashed your lips back onto his.
He accepted the kiss, giving into you for what felt like an eternity until he pulled away again.
âAre you sure this is what you want? Because there will be implications ifâŚâ he said and, before he could finish his sentence, you interrupted.
âI know and I am prepared to deal with these implications as they ariseâ you said before pressing your lips back onto his. You knew that, most likely, you would have to keep your interactions with Cillian a secret at least for a little while and you knew that, later down the track, this might cause issues with Craig and Ella.
Despite these intrusive thoughts, you managed to switch off and get lost in the moment and kiss between you soon became heated as Cillian gently slipped his tongue in between the opening of your lips.
You gave in and let his tongue dance with yours as if it was the most natural thing to do. He was such a good kisser. Gentle and passionate.
âNow do you want me to stay for the night or call a taxi?â you asked as, after at least ten minutes, your lips drifted apart.
âIf you were to stay, what would you be telling Craig and Ella?â Cillian asked.
âThat I had some drinks after the theatre and ended up staying at a friendâs houseâ you said, causing Cillian to laugh.
âI guess you are staying thenâ he said as he ran his hand over your cheek again before giving you another kiss.
âAlrightâ you said shyly. âI will go and have a shower thenâ you said nervously.
It felt different this time around and you didnât know how far he wanted to go. You had never had sex before and intimacy didnât come naturally to you.
After you both had showers, separately, you met in bed just like the last time when you stayed at Cillianâs house.
Just this time, neither of you bothered getting dressed for the occasion.
Bed Time
Cillian was lying there, under the doona, wearing nothing but his black Calvin Klein briefs as you walked into the bedroom.
You, on the other hand, wore even less. A black thong. That was it and you could see the appreciation on Cillianâs face as you walked into the bedroom.
But, in addition to your naked body, your tattoos and piercings, he could also see the nervousness on your face as you climbed into bed next to him.
âYou are beautifulâ he said as you got under the doona.
âIf you say soâ you smiled shyly before giving him a kiss.
It wasnât long until he gently pulled you closer towards him and began running his masculine hands over your body, including your breasts and all the way down to your naked ass.
His lips never left yours and you enjoyed the warmth of his body pressed against yours. The little amount of his chest hair brushed against your breasts and, as he held you close, you could feel his erection grow beneath his breaths.
You knew he wanted you, all of you and, whilst you wanted to be with him, you werenât quite ready to take this step yet.
âCillian, I amâŚI never hadâŚâ you said and, before you could finish your sentence Cillian withdraw his hand from you.
âYou are a virgin?â he asked somewhat surprised, causing you to nod. Whilst you hinted on this previously when you talked with him about Darcy being pushy when it came to your relationship, you never actually told him that you never had sex. It all made more sense to him now and made him dislike how Darcy had treated you even more.
âI am sorry. I didnât realiseâ Cillian said.
âAre you disappointed?â you asked, noticing Cillianâs reluctance to touch you again the same way he was before you told him.
âWhy would I be disappointed?â he asked, running his hand over your cheek.
âNot sure. Perhaps you expected something else tonight?â you said shyly.
âWell, the truth is that I didnât expect anything tonight. Not kissing you, not lying next to you or getting to touch your beautiful body. So, I am getting way more than I had bargained forâ Cillian said.
âYou are so kind Cillian. What I meant was that, once you got a woman into bed, you probably didnât expect thisâ you said somewhat embarrassed.
âAt my age, probably notâ Cillian laughed. âBut, I am not disappointed Y/N. We will just take things slow, move at your pace, alright? Despite, there are so many things other than sex in the conventional way that are enjoyable and I am just happy to lie here with you and kiss you all nightâ Cillian said before pressing his lips back on to yours.
âThings other than sex in the conventional way?â you asked curiously after your lips drifted apart.
âYeah, you know, like other thingsâ Cillian chuckled. He clearly was out of your comfort zone having to give you a sex ed lesson.
âHmm, like what?â you said cheekily. âCan you show me?â you asked nervously. Whilst you werenât quite ready to take things all the way, you felt an overwhelming desire for this man and you trusted him and you certainly wanted him to continue to touch you.
Cillian chuckled at your comment but reluctantly agreed. After all, he just promised you to take things slow and what he was about to do didnât exactly fall into the category of taking things slow.
âAlright, but you are in charge. Promise me that you will tell me if you want me to stop, ok?â Cillian said reassuringly.
âI promiseâ you said before he leaned in and gave you another kiss before guiding your back down on to the mattress.
After you lied down comfortably, Cillian kissed you once again before his lips began trailing down your neck, kissing all over it, while his hands wandered over your naked breasts.
In this moment, you felt somewhat vulnerable. You werenât exactly blessed with a large bust but Cillian seemed to like what he saw as he kissed down your beautiful body, his lips and tongue exploring and enjoying the sweetness of your flesh.
Eventually, his lips found their way to your perky breasts and lingered at a taut, pierced nipple, the tip of his tongue rolling around it, over the tiny bumps on your areola. He drew it into his mouth, eliciting a soft sigh from you as he sucked.
It felt amazing, much unlike what anyone else had ever done to you before and you could feel an unexpected tension build up in between your legs. The moisture within you was building and you trusted Cillian even once his lips began to trail further down your body.
His lips soon found the swell of your belly, and he showered it with soft kisses. His tongue played a moment in your pierced belly button before he continued his downward journey.
Then, suddenly, his lips touched the top of your lace panties causing you to let out a surprisingly loud moan.
No man had ever been this close to your mound before with anything else but their fingers.
With his fingers, he hooked into the ream of your lace panties before sliding them down all the way past your knees and then down over your feet before letting them drop over the bed.
There you were, completely naked, in front of the man you were so desperate for.
With his head moving back in between your legs, you felt vulnerable and excited at the same time.
The scent of your hot sex was now filling his nostrils, making him crave the taste of you.
His lips first touched the inside of your thighs, sending shivers of pleasure down your spine. Again, you couldnât help it but moan unexpectantly loud at the sensation.
Your reaction made Cillian smile against your thighs and he moved his head slightly inwards.
You could feel his warm breath on your vulva just before his lips touched your naked mound for the first time.
âOh godâ you inhaled sharply, making him smile again. He clearly was doing all the right things and took it slow, much slower than he would usually take it.
After kissing your most intimate body part a couple of time, he finally let his tongue lightly trace down the folds of your flesh.
It felt insane and you moaned loudly before you started to squirm when his tongue ran through your folds for the second time.
Cillian soon felt your fingertips caress his hair as he teased you.
He ran his tongue up and down those lips, enjoying the wetness between them.
âOh god Cillianâ you moaned just as you gripped his hair tighter as he pushed his tongue inward in between your lips, savouring the sweet taste of you.
By this point you were dripping wet as his tongue went as deep as it could, his face awash with your warm juices.
Then, Cillian pulled back slightly, moving his tongue up and down, side to side, not wanting to leave any part of your sex untouched.
At the top, he found that sensitive nub of flesh, now fully extended. As his tongue flicked against it, he felt you give a little shiver of pleasure. His tongue swirled around and around, and then his lips engulfed it, sucking it gently as you began to moan even louder.
âCillian, fuckâ you moaned as you let your body take in the fullest extend of this sensation and closed your eyes.
Just as you closed your eyes, you could feel one of Cillianâs fingers run over your wet slit while his tongue continued to swirl around your clit.
You took in a deep breath but tried to relax as much as possible, thinking about what he might be doing next.
And, just like this, he carefully slipped a finger into you, watching your cues closely for any pain.
âOh god, fuckâ you moaned again at the sensation. To your surprise, it felt nice, very nice.
After your body relaxed again Cillian began moving his finger in and out in a slow, steady rhythm as his tongue played a staccato on your pulsing clit.
He loved your taste, your scent, your sounds, he was in his happy place, and your pleasure was his goal.
He kept going, making love to you with his lips and tongue and fingers. Your sounds intensified in volume; the grip on his hair tightened; your hips rose as you squirmed beneath his ministrations.
After several minutes of pure extasy, Cillian carefully inserted a second finger while he gentle sucked on your clit.
You tensed up once again at the intrusion but, following some mild discomfort, were able to relax again. The slight amount of pain quickly turned into pleasure and your breathing was becoming heavier.
You felt full, just by his fingers and they moved in and out of you in the perfect rhythm.
With your moans becoming louder and louder and your walls becoming tighter around his fingers, he could tell that you were close. He pushed his fingers into you deeper, hooking them slightly upward and touching that other magical spot you never knew existed.
Your moans turned into screams of pleasure and your hips bucked as he pushed you over the edge.
Cillian lifted his eyes so he could look up at you and see your head thrown back, eyes closed, and mouth open with your moans and screams of pleasure filling the room.
You were totally lost in the ecstasy of the moment. His tongue was still dancing against your pulsing extended clit.
Your hips bucked one more time, and then you grasped his hair and pulled him away. It was too much, too intense.
He would have kept going for as long as you would let him, but your body had reached the point of pleasure saturation, and you needed to catch your breath.
While you were breathing heavily, coming down from your high slowly, Cillian kissed his way up your body until your lips met, and you shared one long deep kiss.
âAre you alright?â he asked as he could see small tears building up in your eyes. You looked completely exhausted and somewhat confused.
âYes, itâs just⌠I think I just had an orgasmâ you laughed.
âWell, that was the ideaâ Cillian chuckled. But you didnât laugh at his joke. You were entirely overwhelmed.
âHave you not had one before?â Cillian asked somewhat surprised by your reaction.
âWhat, an orgasm? NoâŚBut I read itâs normal for women not to have orgasmsâ you said shyly.
âIf that was true then that would be pretty disappointingâ Cillian chuckled as he took you into his arms.
âHow about you get some rest alright?â Cillian said with a smile as you seemed somewhat besides yourself which he thought was cute.
It didnât take long for you to fall asleep in his arms. You felt so safe and secure next to him.
But for Cillian, it took a little longer. Whilst he promised you to take it slow and was prepared to stick to his promises, deep down inside, he wanted you, all of you.
Good Morning Mr Murphy
The next morning, your alarm went off at 7am. You had to attend art school which was due to start at 9am.
You would have rather stayed in bed with Cillian, but this wasnât an option.
When the sound of your alarm ripped you out of your dreams and your eyes shot open, you noticed that Cillian wasnât lying next to you.
As you got up to look for him, you heard the shower running in the bathroom. He was up early and it surprised you.
âCan I come in?â you asked as you knocked on the bathroom door.
âUhm, yes sureâ Cillian yelled out. He clearly was still in the shower.
âGood Morningâ you said as you walked inside, not being able to see Cillian through the steam covering the door of the shower.
âGood Morning⌠I will be out in a minuteâ Cillian said, his voice sounding somewhat hasty.
âNo need, I just come inâ you said.
Without asking permission, you opened the shower door and stepped inside.
Your lips instantly met Cillianâs lips as you stepped closer towards him. But he seemed somewhat uncomfortable with your quick approach.
As you went to press your body against his soapy chest, you could feel something in between you and, just as you did, you looked downwards.
This was the first time you saw Cillianâs most intimate part and it was quite a sight.
âSorryâ Cillian said with some embarrassment as his erection pressed against you. He had struggled with it on and off since the previous night.
âNow I am no expert, but I think that your reaction down there tells me that you like me, a lotâ you giggled as your hand reached for his hard cock.
Cillian moaned at your touch and you slowly began stroking him.
âNow, I have never done this before so just tell me if I do something wrong alright?â you said as your hands moved to either side of his hips.
âDone what?â Cillian asked and, just as he did, you dropped down to your knees right there in front of him.
âThisâ you said as you took hold of his cock again and guided it towards your mouth. Â
You could hear a soft moan come out of Cillian as your tongue touched his shaft for the first time. Â
You first licked the side of his shaft tentatively. Your heart was pounding as you did and you continued licking the sides and worked your way to the top of his cock.
Swirling your tongue around the head of Cillianâs cock and then working your way back down the shaft, you felt like you found yourself in another world, one you had never been in before.
Cillian groaned again and you felt his hands on your head as you continued licking his cock and then finally taking him into your mouth as far as you could go.
You didn't have a clue what you were doing, never having done this before, but you started bobbing up and down his shaft.
As Cillianâs moans became louder and steadier, you started bobbing up and down his cock even faster. You could taste his per cum on your tongue and then felt his hands hold on to the hair on your head even tighter.
You were in control but it was almost like he needed to hold on to something, grab something with his hands.
âFuck Y/Nâ he moaned and you could tell he was getting close.
Before he could say anything else, you looked up at him.
âI want you to come in my mouthâ you said before taking him back inside your mouth.
He looked surprised but didnât dare to argue and, after a few more head bobs, he let go.
You could feel his cock begin to throb in your mouth and, just as you did, his hot sweet cum began to flow steadily from his shaft into your mouth.
You stopped bobbing your head as he came down from his high and let go of his cock before looking up at him and opening your mouth.
He could see his cum in your mouth and the disbelieve on his face made you laugh for a second, causing you to spill some but swallowing the rest.
âAre you sure you never done this before because I never had a woman do this last bitâ Cillian chuckled as he helped you up.
âNoâŚneverâ you said. âBut, Iâve watched porn beforeâ you laughed as you wiped your mouth before giving Cillian a kiss.
After your intimate encounter, you both cleaned yourself off and got dressed before Cillian gave you a lift to art school.
Unpleasant Surprise
Your day at art school was good but you couldnât get Cillian out of your head that day.
You went as far as to cancel your date with Anita that same afternoon so that you could surprise Cillian at his house later.
It was probably for the better you thought as Anita had many questions for you that day after Darcy had told her that he saw you at the theatre with Cillian.
At 4.30pm, after picking up some food and clothes from at home, you made your way to Cillianâs place.
You knocked on the door and, eventually, Cillian opened.
âWhat are you doing here Y/N?â Cillian asked surprised. You came by unannounced and thought that, maybe, it wasnât a good idea after all. Perhaps he didnât like surprises.
âI am sorry, I should have called. I just wanted to surprise youâ you said before asking Cillian whether you could come inside.
âItâs not a good time Y/Nâ Cillian said and, in this moment, you could hear a female voice from inside his apartment.
Through the crack of the door, you could see a blonde woman. She was pretty, probably in her late thirties, wearing a black dress and heels. It was obvious to you that Cillian and her were close.
âCan I call you later?â Cillian asked.
âRight, sureâ you sighed as you handed him the bag with the food and walked off.
As you walked towards the elevator, tears were building up in your eyes and you felt overwhelmingly anxious and upset. Perhaps he wasnât different than other actors and you were just another quick fling.
You didnât pick up his calls that day. Youâve been hurt enough by men in the past.

YOUR POV
My thumbs run over the edges of my book as I flip the page, stretching out my legs across the length of the couch. I lift my eyes from the pages of The Alchemist and look at Spencer. Heâs propped up against the armrest of the large leather chair heâs sat in, with his fingers scanning the pages and his left palm cupping his cheek. I close my book and toss it on the couch next to me, I slouch down on the couch and toss my braided hair over my shoulder. Pressing my cheek against the pillows and lose myself in looking at him. The soft glow of his reading lamp lights up his small apartment, bouncing off the endless bookshelves and olive green walls. The sun has set since we both started reading hours ago, just the two of us in his apartment enjoying one another's company after a rough case the day before. After being together for a while, I have been able to pick up on his cues when heâs hurt and wants his space versus when heâs hurting and needs comforting...but this time, I have no clue what he needs.
âIn most cultures itâs considered impolite to stare,â Spencer says without breaking his gaze away from his book.
âMmm,â I hum sitting up on the couch to look at him even more. âActually, staring has been proven to be a sign of attraction in modern society.â
âIs that so?â Spencer chuckles and closes his book, placing it on the side table next to his chair. I nod at him and bring my legs up to my chest crossing them to sit cross-legged on the leather sofa. He stands from his chair and takes a few steps towards me, before kneeling in front of the couch. Spencer rests his arms on my lap and looks up at me, âhi,â he whispers after a while.
âHi,â I reply back and take a free hand to run it through his curls. Spencer instinctively leans into my touch and his eyes flutter shut. My hands continue to run though his hair and I gently scratch his scalp. After a moment or two, Spencer opens his eyes again and crawls onto the couch, practically on top of me. I guess he needs comforting, I think to myself and I lay down on the couch and Spencer presses his chest against mine gently collapsing into me. He rests his head against my shoulder, his lips inches from my neck and I wrap my legs around his. He hums contently as his arms loop around my body, bringing us even closer than before. My left hand goes back to his head and runs my fingers through his hair, while my right traces patterns on his back.
âSpence,â I mumble quietly. He hums in response so I know he hasnât fallen asleep and I continue, âare you okay? You didnât talk much when you came home yesterday and we barely talked today, if you donât want to thatâs fine. I just-â I sigh and raise my hand from his back and run careful fingers over his exposed cheek. âI just donât want you to think you canât talk to me.â
âI know,â he says, turning his face to rest his chin on my chest, his eyes opening slightly to peer up at me. He smiles gently before laying his head back down, âthank you...it isnât that I donât want to talk about it, I just canât right now.â
âOh,â I sigh and return his gentle smile. I look down at him fondly and continue to comb out his hair.
âIâm sorry, I donât want you to overthink anything...itâs not your fault. I just canât bring myself to discuss it yet...the case was really bad, (y/n).â
I nod and press a kiss to his forehead. His eyes close in response and he grins to himself. Spencer has never been one for attention or physical affection, but over time, somehow heâs grown to be the more clingy and physical one. He even surprised his team when he willingly kissed me in front of them, because he said I was âjust differentâ.
âCan I ask you something?â Spencer says and draws me out from my own thoughts.
âOf course,â I smile.
âCan you,â he hesitates and turns his face away from my chest, leaning up on his elbows to look at me in the eyes. My hand drops from his hair and cups his cheek, he presses a kiss into my palm before finishing, âbraid my hair? Noâsorry that was stupid, I donât know why I-â
âSpencer,â I cut into his flustered stuttering. âDo you want two braids or one?â His smile grows to an impossibly large size and his eyes crinkle up at the corners.
âSurprise me.â
â
âHow did you learn how to do this?â Spencer asks looking at me through the reflection of the mirror. Iâm sitting on the edge of his bed, Spencer between my legs, his back flushed up against the box spring.
âBraid hair?â I ask and he nods, âwell, I always knew how to do basic braids because of my mom, but I taught myself how to French braid due to lots of YouTube videos.â
Spencer smiles at me through the mirror and his eyes fix on my fingers in his hair. Twisting the pieces over one another, slowly adding smaller sections I complete my small French braid at the top of Spencerâs hair. Two tightly woven braids lay on the top of his scalp, leaving his curls below loose and free in a half up-half down style. I pull out some pieces from the front of his braids to frame his face and I look fondly at him. Heâs beautiful.
âYou look so handsome Spence,â I smile and run my fingers up through the bottom of his unbraided hair. A blush creeps onto Spencerâs cheeks and he tries to hide it by peering his face away and into his hands. âHey,â I pull his hands down, still watching him through the reflection. âI mean it, you look...hotâ
âNo-â Spencer starts to protest, his blush deepening.
âYes you do...you look hot, but also kind of beautiful at the same time,â I giggle and Spencer does too. He rises from the ground in one steady movement and stands between my legs. He leans down and places a soft kiss on my lips.
âThank you,â he says and kisses my nose before standing back up. His large hands cup my face and his eyes scan over my every feature.
âDo you like themâthe braids?â I ask.
âI love them,â he smiles and drops a hand from my cheek to grab the ends of my hair. âWe match.â
We both chuckle at his corniness, but my heart flutters at the thought of Spencer, Dr. Genius, wanting to have matching hair with his girlfriendâŚ.who would have thought?
âYknow,â Spencer clears his throat with a small cough. âThe caseâŚâ
I patt the side of the bed next to me and Spencer takes my cue and sits. He fiddles with his fingers and wonât look at me.
âYou donât have to tell me anything you donât want to,â I say breaking the silence and placing my hands over his restless ones. Spencer nods, but continues.
âThe unsub was killing women with long hair, he would cut it and keep boxes upon boxes of their hair. He made wigs out of the hair, long straight ones. One victim, she looked like youâŚâ Spencer hesitates and looks up to meet my eyeline. I nod my head to tell him itâs okay to keep going. âShe had the same hair color, eye color, everything...my heart stopped when I saw her photo. For a second, I thought âthatâs (y/n)â.â
This breaks himâŚ.Spencer sniffles as a steady stream of tears rolls down his cheeks. I move back on the bed and pull him with me. Instinctively, Spencer follows and cuddles into my side as I run my hands over his back. A sob rattles his chest and Spencer cries into my side.
âShhh,â I coo and squeeze him tight. âIâm here. Iâm fine.â
âI know, I justâIâm sorryâ
âSpencer, you never have to apologize to me for this stuff...ever.â
Spencer shakes his head and buries his face again in my side. Silence falls between us again aside from Spencerâs soft cries. My hands continue to move up and down his back trying my best to comfort him. I just know I have to be there for him.
âYknow,â I say, cutting into the silence. âI could teach you how to braid my hairâŚ.itâs not hard and Iâm pretty sure that big olâ brain of yours can handle it.â I whisper, placing a kiss on the top of his head, right onto the braids in his perfect hair. Spencer pulls away from me and his reddened eyes crinkle up as his smile widens
âYou can teach me?â He asks sitting up on the bed looking back at me.
âYes, Iâm pretty sure this is the only thing Iâll be able to teach you, Spenceââ
âNo,â Spencer cuts me off and sits cross-legged on the bed facing me. âYouâve taught me so much (y/n). More than you know. I know how to love again because of you...I knew when I saw that victim on the board I had to tell you I loved you because I didnât want it to be too late...I love you, (y/n).â
âI love you too, Spencer.â I smile and Spencer presses his lips to mine. âSo these braidsâŚI think we should start with the basics first.â
âMmm,â Spencer nods, acting overly enthusiastic. âI think thatâs the perfect place to start, Professor (y/n).â

A Dwarf and His Fairy
A/N: Here it is! The FĂli x Fairy piece I've been working on! This piece taught me a LOT! About editing, plotting, character work, etc., and though it's not perfect, I'm still really proud of it and happy with it. Thanks to all who supported me with this one. I hope you enjoy it :)
Pairing: FĂli x Ivy (my fairy OC)
Word Count: 3,780
Warnings: None!
Summary: Even FĂli needs someone to remind him that self-care is a requirement, and not a reward. Good thing he has a somewhat relentless, but very loving fairy friend to remind him.
FĂli slid the book away in defeat. It was as heavy as stone and full of numbers and dates and plans and problems. Even as the wicked pages turned by, they let out a nasty hiss and the scratchy old leather cover whipped around with a solid, successful splat, fighting FĂli until itâs last breath.
Once it was done, his surrender official, FĂliâs head fell into his hands and he groaned, making one of the last candles in his chambers flicker in his breath. Truthfully, the nub of wax, short wick, and tiny flame was barely a candle at all. It hardly resembled the tall, radiant torch it had previously been. But it wasnât alone. Similarly, as the night went on, FĂliâs resolve had melted away and his shoulders warped and rounded like hot wax until there was very little light to give.
All because of that damned book.
âI need a break,â he said to no one but the silver platter of untouched goodies sitting on the corner of his desk. There was a small, shining jug of sweet milk, a tiny jar of honey with a miniscule spoon to match and a delicate bowl of crumbling honey cakes. It was all left waiting, as was FĂli.
He stared at the treats and swore he saw them move. But he dismissed it, ascribing it to fatigue, and closed his eyes, leaning his heavy chin on his wrist.
Then something struck him.
It was a scent heâd long been familiar with. Despite its peculiarity, he could always pinpoint its source from the first time he witnessed it and matched it with its meaning. This was the smell of magic- frozen as fresh winter frost and balmy as sun bathed flower petals- and it effortlessly roused him from his near nap and provoked him to sit up straight and search the room.
At first, he saw nothing, though he did recognize the swishing sound of her clothes rushing through the air. Every spent candle in his chambers now roared to life with new flame and an endless wick. The room glowed as if it was midday, not only with candlelight, but with the hope and warmth of company.
âOh, my friend,â FĂli said. âMake yourself known to me. Iâve longed to see you again.â
She stopped, showing herself just below the ceiling in front of the desk. With a smile, she gracefully and silently descended, relaxing her wings and letting them sway through the air rather than furiously flap. When she found her place before FĂliâs eyes, however, the four little wings revolved again in a blur of speed in her otherwise still, hovering flight.
âHello, my dear,â he said, holding out a horizontal finger for her to perch on if by chance she was tired from her journey, or simply wanted to be near him.
She only smiled and took his hospitality. Even when her bare feet landed on his knuckle, FĂli barely felt her touch. Though he hadnât seen her in some weeks and though theyâd met decades ago, she still looked the same to him, as if time would never disturb her.
His fairyâs name was Ivy. She was almost as tall as his hand from wrist to fingertip, and she had long waving hair as dark as a winter nightâs sky. The dress she wore was sturdy despite its fabric of light leaves and soft petals. FĂli had no doubt her clothing was made of the same flower whence she came. It was the legend, after all, though she herself never told him so. Instead, it was his fascination and, one could even say infatuation, that spurred on his research.
No matter where she was or what she was doing, his little fairy friend always appeared to glow. FĂli didnât believe it to be magic or the pollen on her dress or the shine on her wings. He thought it was simply her essence that glowed and shone like a piece of a star drifting from its flight for his own sake and pleasure.
She was a pleasure. And she had been missed.
âWhere have you been?â FĂli asked. It wasnât accusatory or disappointed or cruel. He just wondered. âTell me of your travels.â
She sat down on him and squeezed his finger with hers, like tangled blades of grass, as if she knew how much he missed traveling himself. Like she knew of that feeling deep down in his bones that defied his kind and his duties, begging and pulling at him to wander and explore.
Still, the bundle of joy that she was, she didnât dwell or dawdle, but showed him where sheâd been, using pictures in lieu of words so he could see these places himself.
The visions flew up behind her head and revealed scenes that were so clear, it was as if FĂli was simply looking through a window and out into the most mystifying bits of the world. He could smell the warm wind that blew through tall grass on the hills and could hear the gurgling of stream water. He recognized the soft, wet, moss-ridden floor of Fangorn Forest and when he asked his fairy what sheâd been doing there, she showed him the fresh green leaves of saplings. Her memories unveiled the fairiesâ gifts of hardy seeds and fresh water, along with magic, but not artificial sunlight.
âYou helped them grow,â FĂli said, astonished at the ability and yet, not surprised at his friendâs generous deeds.
Ivy smiled and another scene flashed above her head. This one sent real spray into FĂliâs face that knocked him back into his chair with an indignant cry.
Her feet kicked through the air as she laid back and laughed, making the sound of a small bell ringing in the distance. It was the only sound FĂli ever heard from her and upon hearing it, he instantly forgave her antics.
âWhat was that?â he asked, voice left high from his surprised yelp.
It only made her giggle more and even louder, like the bell was soaring closer to FĂliâs ears. With a hand over her belly, she leaned back again and in her entertainment, slid right off FĂliâs finger.
âHey there, careful!â FĂli chided, grinning all the way. He caught her, sitting her in his palm to avoid another slip. When she calmed and settled in the cushiony pillow of his hand, he said, âI should have let you tumble for that trick!â He winked. âBut then again, you would have flapped your wings before you hit the ground, hm?â She narrowed her eyes at him, but it was fruitless. She giggled again and pointed at him with a shaking finger.
âYouâre right,â he said. âI would never let you fall.â
At that, she turned fully pink. Not just the round of her cheeks or the tips of her pointed ears, but completely pink- wings and all. FĂli loved it when she did that, especially when he was the reason for it.
The bright shade only lasted for a moment, however, and she quickly brushed her hair off her shoulder, pushing the locks down her back, and brought FĂliâs attention back to the scene that had splashed him. With a flick of her finger, she showed him more, uncovering a waterfall that was so tall, it could have reached the parapets of the mountain of Erebor. The water that flowed off the cliff and into the serene lake was as blue as the summer sky and framed with the deep green clouds of the hanging trees and stout bushes near its edges. The bright sunlight left specks of glitter in the fallâs foam and a radiant ribbon through the waterâs center that was so blinding, FĂli had to squint hard until the vision moved and gave him a new, less glaring view.
    âItâs so beautiful,â he said.
She let him admire the scene for a long, generous moment before taking him along the trails hidden in the connecting forest to show him its exact location. The exploration was all done through the window of the vision.
âI know where that is,â he said. âItâs not too far from here, close enough where you and I could sneak away. It seems Iâm not the only one who could use a break from my duties.â
The fairy smiled and nodded, hair waving against FĂliâs palm and tickling him. In her eagerness, the shining curtain parted and one stubborn lock fell in her eyes. That rogue twist of hair was something that teased her often, but if it was an imperfection, it was one that only endeared her to FĂli all the more.
Before she could right the tendril herself, FĂli lifted his hand, brushing his fingertip very carefully over her small cheek and pushing her feather soft hair over her shoulder. He let his finger settle against her neck, but she grabbed him in a hurry, pulling him off of her skin, yet still keeping him close to her.
Before he could answer, her entire body shivered and shook and she pouted at him. Then she turned away. As if shaking water from her fingers, her hand flicked to the dark fireplace in the corner of FĂliâs chambers and she built him a fire flame by flame.
She felt that he was cold.
He laughed, immeasurably relieved that was all. He immediately stopped her waving arm.
âIâll make a fire. Donât tire yourself over me, Iâll do it myself.â
She frowned at him, gravely shaking her head as he crossed the room.
âDonât give me that look! You know dwarves donât feel the cold as you do. Itâs not like I would let myself freeze over.â
She flew around him, waving over the stone cold bricks to warm them. Then she stopped in front of his eyes with a very unimpressed glare.
âAll right, all right. Thank you for the reminder.â
Then she smiled, wriggled, and flew back to where heâd been sitting.
As he took the firewood from its rack and stacked the logs just so, he checked over his shoulder to assure himself that she hadnât left in a flurry. But there she was, legs dangling and swinging from her spot on the right arm of his chair.
After singeing a part of his sleeve on the flame sheâd ignited for him, he turned back to his work and said, âIâve missed you, you know,â throwing out the confession before he lost his nerve. âBut I knew you must have been busy. Fairies never seem to stop and rest, especially you. Not even for the honey cakes Iâve set out for you every night for the past weeks.â
He finally peeked over his shoulder and chuckled at her wide eyes.
She pointed to herself in question.
âYes, theyâre for you! I donât know anyone else who garnishes their honey cakes with even more honey and then finishes them off with sweet milk. Do you?â
He expected a funny little glare from her, but didnât receive any such thing. She was too grateful, too excited about her treats. She flew around them, as if deciding which one she wanted to indulge in first.
Once the fire was crackling, FĂli returned to his desk chair. He poured the small jug of milk into an even tinier cup for her- one that heâd had made special by the potter at the market. Heâd felt the looks burning his back when he purchased it at the stall, but those and the extra work had all been worth it when his fairy first saw it. Specially made for her. And her sweet milk.
âThereâs more where those came from so go ahead and enjoy,â FĂli said.
With two straining hands and trembling arms, she held out an entire honey cake and offered it to him. Only to save her strength, FĂli took it with thanks, and so as not to offend her, he took a bite when she did. As her small piece left her eyes rolling closed as only a delicious delicacy would, the other half of FĂliâs cake crumbled in his fingers as the sweetness dissolved on his tongue.
âDo you like them?â FĂli asked after a gulp.
In answer, Ivy burst into the air, twirling and spinning, sparkles and glowing fragments of pure joy following her flight. She flew in front of him and nodded.
Then suddenly, she laughed at him.
Before FĂli could lift a finger, she came close to him and her cool hands, like little raindrops, cleaned the mess of cake crumbles from his chin. He was amazed, she didnât seem to mind the coarse hair of his beard on her delicate fingers. Not at all. In fact, if he could hazard a guess, he would have thought she lingered closeby, touching him, for longer than necessary. Unfortunately, she caught herself. Giving a funny salute, she flew back to her spot on the edge of the silver treat tray. Even when she dipped the next small chunk of cake into the jar of honey, her bite stayed intact all the way from the platter to her mouth. It must have been magic, FĂli thought.
âI think these are extra tasty tonight,â he said, popping the rest of his piece past his lips. Then he leaned down to her. âBut very short. Care to help me with these crumbs?â he asked, wriggling his scrunched mouth.
In a blink, she flushed pink from her tiny toes to her forehead. But she laughed and tugged on the braided mustache that swung closest to her.
âFine! Iâll do it myself,â he joked, enjoying her ringing giggle.
After a neat little swig of sweet milk, Ivy rose from her seat, holding her belly.
    âAll finished?â
She shook her head violently.
âJust a break then? Good. Theyâd call for a medic if we sent even a crumb back down to the kitchens. They all know no tray of sweets has ever survived the two of us.â
She glowed and left her spot next to the cakes. As always, she effortlessly identified the most recent bane of FĂliâs existence. It made him wonder if it was Ivyâs magic that helped her do it, or if it was simply a freakish skill. Either way, the moment she left the platter, she headed for the leather bound book FĂli had discarded before her arrival. She tapped the binding with her toe, questioning. But FĂli knew sheâd seen it before and the little thing was fishing for a confession.
He also knew heâd been caught.
âI was just putting it away for the night.â
She sent a glare his way whose meaning was as clear as if the letters were written across her round little nose: Liar.
In truth, FĂli had forgotten all about the book and its contents the moment his fairy made her presence known. It was mystical how quickly his mind moved from hopelessness and exhaustion to joy and wonder whenever Ivy was near. He often asked himself if he had the same effect on her, but had yet to gather the courage to ask.
Her peculiar movement pulled him from his thoughts. Sheâd squatted down like a dwarf about to lift a cart brimming with stone and with all her might, lifted the bookâs heavy leather cover. Then with silent, bare feet, she walked over the title page until sheâd flipped the book open.
âExcuse me,â FĂli said with mock offense. âThere are trade secrets in this book, you know. For no oneâs view but my own.â
She rolled her eyes at him and lifted her finger, pointing to the end of the ribbon bookmark. She twirled her wrist and the light shooting out from under her tidy fingernails sent the pages whipping by as if caught in a windstorm. A moment later, the pages fell flat.
The place left open was riddled with smear marks and ink blotches, scrawled notes and words that had been crossed out with enough force to scratch the next few pages.
Her eyebrow crooked like the roof of a village house, accusing FĂli of the mess.
âRuling a kingdom isnât easy,â he explained with a shrug. âThings get a little⌠untidy.â
Ivyâs lip quirked and she leaned down to skim her hand across the page under her feet. A rippling wave of fresh magic traveled across the paper from Ivyâs toes out to the corner edges, continuing through the air until it hit FĂliâs nose- that light, unique scent heâd always associated with his fairy. It immediately relaxed him, giving him peace wherever the information hidden in that book stole it away.
When the wave cleared, FĂli saw that his entries were organized anew. The spills and blots had vanished, leaving only what heâd intended in their place. Even his notes were left in the margins, now neat and crisp, with not a thought lost. But Ivyâs work hadnât stopped at one page. Every section was free of crimps or bends, the cover was dusted and the binding was flawlessly refinished all in one singular moment.
It was astonishing.
âOh, Ive,â FĂli said, sighing out the rarely used nickname he had for her. From where he stood, he could see the pages were now smooth and soft as silk and he couldnât help but touch them, running his comparatively rough fingertips over the center of the open book where the pages met. He took a corner and flipped through the last sheets, listening to the soft flaps that rang through the room- a noise that reminded him of the sound of Ivyâs rustling wings flying toward him. This torturous book was now bright and clean with a fairyâs mark.
The best part, however, was the scent left behind, pooling in its pores- that of magic, of his friend, of her belief in him.
FĂli held out his hand and Ivy flew to it.
âI donât think Iâll mind this work as much anymore. Itâs perfect. Thank you.â
She bowed, flashing her petal skirt with a flourish.
Just as FĂli reached for the neatened pages again, Ivy snapped the book closed with a turn of her wrist, almost trapping his hand inside.
âHey!â he laughed, startled from his daze. âI wanted to admire your handiwork!â
Once over her giggles, she planted her fists on her hips and with a demanding stare, pointed to the empty spot in the shelf where the hardcover belonged overnight. A stomp of her foot practically shouted: NOW.
âAll right! Iâm putting it away.â He let Ivy dismount onto the silver cake platter and did as he was told, with a dwarflingâs grin wide on his lips. When heâd tucked the book into place, FĂli ran a finger down the soft, faultless binding with a whistle.
âA craft any dwarf would be proud of.â
When he looked over his shoulder Ivy was watching him- carefully and contently admiring him. Even romantically, if FĂli was brave enough to use the word.
While he had her undivided attention, he winked at her, just as a tease to make her flood that pretty shade of pink. As a retort, she stole a sweet cake from his side of the platter and took a violent bite.
With a chuckle, FĂli plopped into his chair and watched her as he felt the exhaustion sneak into his stubborn muscles and his overstretched mind. He still had a sliver of energy, however, to wonder if his fairyâs glow had grown more intense after this time spent together. He could see it in her eyes. Though they were as dark as fertile soil, they were round and shining in the tireless candlelight she brought to the chambers. And now as she watched him, they were fearless in their gaze and brimming with affection in their softness.
Yet, despite it all, FĂli knew they were both aware that their visit couldnât last much longer.
She rose and brushed the non existent crumbs from the purple petals of her dress, letting her wings flutter to life.
FĂli straightened in a rush at her movement, saying exactly what had been on his mind in a soft, sleepy voice. âI will never know how you always find a way to comfort me. Somehow, youâve done it again, my friend. Thank you.â
She beamed, her smile like a crescent moon flipped on its side in the night.
âWill you visit me again?â FĂli asked.
She nodded.
He leaned to her, taking her tiny hand between his thumb and forefinger. âPlease donât let too much time pass before you do.â
Her beating wings stuttered for a moment and her luminous aureola dimmed. Her twinge of sadness squeezed FĂliâs heart, strangling it like a thirsty vine, and he wished heâd never spoken so selfishly. But before he could take his words back, she fluttered up to his face and placed a feather light kiss on his cheek as her goodbye. Then she smiled, eyes brimming with clear sparkle and so many words unspoken.
With a wave of her hand, she beckoned him to follow her lead across the room. As she did at the end of every visit, she flew in neat ringlets through the air above his bed, dropping warmth, rest, and peace into the furs in the form of glistening sparkles like fresh pollen from her own flora. This ritual of theirs left magic on FĂliâs pillow for days to come. It would give him restful sleep, even with the weight of his kingdom on his shoulders. Her magic even seemed to quell the loneliness that often pulled at his heart. She always left a piece of herself with him.
âYou are far too kind to me, Ive,â FĂli said to her, standing next to the bed, close to her one last time before her departure. âToo generous-â
The blankets below him flew up and covered his head in a magical swoop. A fairyâs doing.
âFine! No more compliments!â FĂli cried, untangling himself. âBut how am I not to, when you-â
With the covers back where they belonged, he was free to look around the room. The empty room. Sheâd gone.
In his defeated search for her, he found a gift left for him on his bedside table. A billowing purple flower with feather-like petals reminiscent of her dress sat in the now dim candle light. Curled around the deep green stem was a note that he fumbled to open with his round fingertips. When he pulled it flat, that same scent- the scent of magic, of his fairy- flew to his nose in a flurry and a message was illuminated.
Soon.

Dream in a Dream (M)
pairing: Prince!Ten x Princess!You
word count:Â 6k
warnings:Â written in 3rd person, mature content, fluffy, ten being the love of my life
synopsis:Â The Four Great Kingdoms took turns to maintain the peace of a planet called Mahabhuta. However, when minor rebellions threaten its stability, two kingdoms seek an alliance. But, hearts could never be war weapons. What to do when one of them is already committed to another?
Inspired by indian/turkish stuff and Avatar lol
[a/n]:Â since he (and his smile) was the reason i started stanning nct back in march 2016 (lol) i decided to post this here, the original version is in portuguese and posted on my fic site. happy bday, phonphon, you deserve the world.
also, english is not my first language so any grammar/etc mistake please let me know!
First of all, a small glossary so you donât get lost:
The cycle of the Great Kingdoms of Mahabhuta takes place by:
Kingdom of Prithvi (Kingdom of Earth)
Kingdom of Apas-Jal (Kingdom of Water)
Kingdom of Agni (Kingdom of Fire)
Kingdom of Vayu (Kingdom of Air)
However, there is Akasha (Heaven, "vacuum"), by which all other kingdoms are "subjected". Akashaâs laws override any other law, as they were enacted prior to the division of MahÄbhĹŤta.
The hierarchy in each kingdom consists of:
Samraat and Samrajni â emperor and empress;
Maharaja and Maharani â king and queen, used formally for the heirs of the throne;
Raja and Rani â king and queen, used informally with the heirs of the throne.
Some words used by the characters and their meanings:
Evet: an informal way of saying âyesâ;
Nei: an informal way of saying ânoâ;
Shokran: âthanksâ said from peasants to monarchs;
Shukriya: âthanksâ said from monarchs to peasants;
Olum: interjection of astonishment, incredulity.
Om Shanti: good luck.
Findi: petname, which can mean both âloveâ and âsweetheartâ, normally related to married couples.

Border between Vayu and Prithvi, Apas-Jal Era.
Some carriages and soldiers crossed the bridge across the border of the Kingdom of Prithvi. Everyone there was fully aware of what they were doing, but no one hesitated. Keeping Maharani of Vayu happy was the only thing they were looking for.
âRani Y/N are you sure that Raja Chittaphon will be waiting for us?â Ipek, Y/Nâs chaperone and personal maid, asked worriedly.
âEvet.â Y/N nodded. âItâs our only chance.â
âSamraat Bhima will be horrified when he notices that you are missing.â
âHe will.â The princess smiled. âBut heâll eventually understand that I had to.â
âEveryone will be delighted when you get married to Raja Chittaphon, right?!â Ipek smiled when she noticed how the girlâs face lit up at her question.
âHopefully so, Ipek. Thatâs what Iâm aiming for.â Y/N sighed, biting another smile. Remembering Chittaphon always resulted in moments like that, where everything melted and she became a puddle of love.
She still shivered like a fool when she remembered when they met.
 Flashback on
Jala, Kingdom of Apas-Jal, 3 years ago
The corridors of the Palace of Jala were huge and very confusing. There were no separated doors, let alone identification by floors or wings. Y/N walked blindly through them, because she couldnât remember where they assigned her rooms earlier.
âWell, Iâm sure itâs not here.â One of the doors opened and a boy came out of it, on his back, wearing a typical outfit of the monarchs she knew.
âOlum!â Y/N froze on her place.
âOh, are you the owner of this room?â He turned to her, drawing her attention to the pair of amused chestnut eyes that stared at her.
âNei, nei. Iâm lost.â She confessed. âI thought the floor was empty.â
âThey told me that the Kingdom of Agni would be on the third floor, according to the cycle, but I confess Iâm having trouble counting. Is it the third excluding the ground floor, or the third from the ground?â The boy smiled and she felt her heart flutter.
She absolutely adored smiles.
And... Olum, that smile was out of this world!
âWell, guess Iâm twice wrong, then.â she blushed.
âYouâre not from Agni, I suppose.â
âNei. Iâm from Vayu.â She extended her hand, indicating the ring of the Compass Rose, which was the symbol of her kingdom. âI ended getting lost...â
âTen, from Agni.â the boy showed his own ring too, a ruby ââsun adorning his hand. Only monarchs wore such rings. âMaybe if we go back where you came from, weâll be able to find your chaperone.â
âY/N, from Vayu.â She bowed, understanding now with whom she spoke. âIt is a pleasure to meet you, Maharaja Chittaphon.â
âOlum, it canât be!â Another lovely smile painted his thin lips. Maharani Y/N Vatavaran?â Ten sounded excited. âI spent years trying to get to know you!â
âReally?â Y/N raised an eyebrow suspiciously.
âIndeed! Did you think that you could remain incognito forever? All kingdoms are curious about the Heiress of the Air.â he signalled for them to start walking. He couldnât touch her until they were officially introduced. âI suppose you make your debut at tonightâs ball?â
âMy parents decided that itâs time for me to seek popularity.â She nodded. âIâm a little afraid, you know? Balls have always seemed too formal.â
âAnd they are.â Ten agreed. âBut as soon as we are introduced, Iâll ask for one dance, and I hope youâll save me a page on your card.â
âAs I donât know anyone, youâll have them all.â She laughed.
âPerfect! So I wonât have to keep company with the Apas.â
âDonât you like water?â
âI donât like anything that puts out fire.â Ten joked casually, and then realized that the princess was puzzled by his comment. âDonât worry, the air tends to spread it. I really like the air.â The same amusement gleam flashed through those chestnut eyes.
Y/N also had made up her mind: she liked the fire a lot.
End of flashback
Closing her eyes, Y/N waited for the right time to relax. When the antelopeâs hooves stopped, she knew it was near.
âMaharani Vatavaran, we have arrived.â One of the soldiers tapped the carriage window twice, breaking the silence. âMaharaja Bhumi is waiting for you.â
âIâll go down. Shukriya.â Y/N smiled. âWeâll meet tomorrow, Ipek. Watch out for any strange movements, pay close attention to the air! As we are in Prithvi you may feel weaker, but just focus on the atmosphere.â
âEvet, evet. Now go, we have no time to waste!â Ipek rushed her.
âOff I go.â Y/N smiled. âWish me luck.â
âOm Shanti.â Ipek raised her hands to her face, crossing them in the shape of a bird and touching her forehead between them, a gesture of undoubted respect to Her Highness.
Y/N got out of the carriage and came across Bhumi, Prithviâs heir. They had become very close friends when they were in Jala, because Bhumi was Tenâs close cousin. Adding up to their escapade, Varaha, capital of Prithvi, was extremely close to Akasha â if all went well, theyâd need just two days to arrive there.
âIâm glad you made it!â Bhumi hugged her. âTen must be on his way.â He signalled for a carriage behind them. âIf they saw Vayuâs carriage we might have had problems, so I thought it is better to use mine until we get to the house.â
âThanks for helping.â She thanked him, getting into the car.
âYou know my weaknesses are love stories, Y/N.â Bhumi laughed. âI asked some guards to take the road to Akasha and they reported that it is in perfect condition. I separated two stops, one in Urvarak and the other in Chattaan; if you manage to reach Chattaan tomorrow by the afternoon, Akasha is just an hour away, so you can rest and do everything at dawn. I estimate that by lunchtime youâll be married.â Bhumi gave her hands a soft squeeze. âOm Shanti, cousin.â
âThank you, dear. But canât we go straight to Chattaan?â
âItâd be very risky and a tad tiring. If other guards notice a strange movement on the roads, itâll be warned to my father and everything will go down the drain.â
âThen we will follow the pace of normal travelers.â Y/N nodded. âIpek is following in a carriage with some of my guards, but there is nothing that indicates my presence or relation to me. Do you think they are in danger?â
âIf thereâs nothing of yours with her, then I donât believe so.â Bhumi waved a hand, dispensing bad luck. âAs soon as they reach Urvarak, if they wish, they can go up in the air and proceed directly to Akasha, without stopping by Chattaan, or just taking a short rest. But, in my point of view, itâd be a little risky, no? Since your father will notice your disappearance in a few hours...â
âIâll talk to Ipek, then. It would be really good if we had someone waiting for us in Akasha.â Y/N stared at the road. âHow long does it take for Urvarak?â
âIf you leave this morning, youâll be there before sunset. That, of course, if you stop to eat and everything.â Bhumi loosened a belt that held his royal attire. âWe will be near Varaha in a few minutes, but Iâll drop you off at home and go to the palace. You need to be aware because only Ten knows where it is.â
âDo you think he hasnât arrived yet?â
âI donât know how it went with the guards at the border, even if I let them know he was coming.â Bhumi sighed. âIn times of crisis, things get chaotic.â
âI hope we donât make this a bigger problem.â Y/N sighed.
âLove inevitably creates problems, baby.â he laughed. âBut, a Maharaja has always been able to choose his wife and vice versa. I donât see your marriage as an affront to Mahabhutaâs balance, but exactly what Apas-Jal and Agni wanted to do: an alliance. So, if we are to have an alliance, let it be real and auspicious.â
âAh Bhumi, dear, youâre so good with words.â Y/N laughed, trying to relax.
                           ⟠⸠⟠⸠⟠⸠âź
The house consisted of Prithviâs standard architecture, with various stone details and spearhead adornments. After hugging and thanking Bhumi four more times, Y/N quietly entered the house, dressed as an ordinary Vahara citizen. It was very good that Bhumi had chosen a normal property instead of a more luxurious and aristocratic house.
She put her bag in the living room and walked to the bathroom, desperate to shower and do her hair. It could be the height of futility, but Y/N did not want Ten to see her sloppy and dirty. All those times they met when she was air bending were enough... They, in general, involved a lot of dust and dry leaves.
âOf course Bhumi would do that.â Y/N sweetly smiled when she found cinnamon essence in the bathroom. This was, in the best description, Vayuâs âofficialâ smell.
While the water in the bathtub heated up, Y/N stretched out a lacy mid-length dress and a cloak. She had brought, in addition to that outfit, another white dress â which she would wear the day she arrived in Akasha â and a dark green dress.
Y/N smoothed the velvet piece and smiled a little. She was starting quite an adventure, but couldnât find the slightest regret for what she was doing. For sure, if she had to choose, she would do everything again and again.
After washing up, Y/N was braiding her hair when she heard a noise coming from the kitchen. She felt chills down her spine, but because the house had only one floor, anyone who entered it would make enough noise for her to prepare before she could cross the room. Awareness spread through her and she held tight on her hairbrush and a small hand mirror â since there wasnât enough time to look for any other weapon.
âY/N?â Her name came out loud in a soft voice, almost like velvet.
âTen!â dropping all objects, she ran to him.
The couple hugged each other, trying to make up for all the one-month longing in those few seconds. A never-ending month in which Ten had heard about the arranged marriage; he and Y/N did not have much chance of communicating; and in which each otherâs world seemed to get off track with the possibility of not being able to be together as they wanted to.
âHow are you? Did you arrive safely?â Ten caressed her cheek with the back of his hand, loving how Y/Nâs eyes closed at the slightest touch.
âI got scared thinking the house was invaded, but now Iâm fine. And yes, I arrived safely thanks to Bhumiâs assistance.â she smiled.
âSorry, I heard the water and decided itâd be respectful to wait.â
âThereâs nothing you havenât seen before.â Y/N blinked, wickedly.
âI know.â Ten brought his face close to hers. âBut I thought we had agreed not to do anything else until the wedding?!â
âTo look doesnât mean to touch.â She lifted her chin, voice dripping challenge.
âIt turns out, little devil, Iâm not so magnanimous.â He pressed his lips to hers, savouring the longing. The last time they saw each other they had to be quick, because it was at the reunion of the kingdoms, and although they could not participate actively, the heirs had an obligation to be present.
Ten circled her waist, breathing in the cinnamon and melting on Y/Nâs tongue. Her whole body was on fire â almost not so figuratively â when they were together. Even though he knew they couldnât waste time, he delighted himself with a few bites on her neck, fighting the urge to take the kiss further.
âI swear I canât wait to be married.â She whispered. âThen I wonât need to count our minutes together.â
âSoon.â Ten winked. âWe are leaving this morning, right?â
âI think it would be ideal. Bhumi said that we can get to Akasha in two days, or we can cut some time, but we would not have Ipek anticipating any problems. Itâs up to you.â She shrugged.
âWeâll do what is best at the moment, findi.â Ten smiled. âThis nickname gets better and better just because it reminds me that it should be used by married people.â
âYou are very keen to remember that we will get married.â
âIn Agni, marriage is one of the best things that could happen to anyone, you know?â He let Y/N get out of his arms. âYou canât blame me for this.â
âI donât blame you, but your excitement is so evident that it makes me look disinterested⌠And you know Iâm not.â
âItâll show up as soon as we have tied our strings.â
Y/N smiled at the mention, because the wedding rite in Akasha had, as one of the main points, to use strings. Each kingdom had its specific ritual, and they should be performed according to the bride and groomâs wishes (and the place they were in, regardless of their nationalities). When Y/N was learning about kingdoms and their cultures, she never imagined that sheâd marry in Akasha, let alone with their celebration. She couldnât wait to put it into practice.
âHowâs the situation in Agni?â Y/N asked as she folded her clothes.
âKinda stable.â Ten sat on the bed and removed his boots. âDad thinks itâs a matter of time before it spreads to other regions other than the capitalâ.
âI hope nobody gets seriously hurt until we get this solved.â
âFor now there was nothing.â he nodded. âJust two fires in abandoned houses. The big problem is that this affects the population indirectly; after all, you never know when they will start attacking them. Psychological terror is the worst weapon.â
âDo you think weâre going to make it worse by getting married?â Y/N swallowed.
âI think...â Ten looked at her, a small smile adorning his beautiful face. âThat love is a force far greater than greed and power. If two prosperous kingdoms tied by love, and nothing but love, fails to reach everyoneâs heart, then no alliance between two other kingdoms will change reality.â He held out his hand, looking for hers over the velvet dress. âI didnât lie when I said I would set the world on fire if something hurt you, findi. It only takes one word and we return to our kingdoms.â
âNo!â she denied fervently. âI wonât give you up. I only worry about these rebellions...â She shrugged. âBut I love you, Ten. You know that, right?â
âAlways.â he nodded. âWhy donât we rest before leaving?!â
                           ⟠⸠⟠⸠âźÂ
The two of them really tried to rest, but the growing tension and adrenaline from their escape were too much. Long before planned, they were already on the road, heading towards Urvarak.
âItâs amazing how, despite the night, everyone lives normally. Look at how crowded the road is!â Y/N commented, surprised. âThe Kingdom that never sleeps, really.â
âWe have a stop in forty minutes. If youâre cold, I can stop to get the blanket from the trunk.â Ten, the gentleman he was, offered.
âIâm fine, findi. If anything, I can hug you and Iâll be warm soon.â
âIf you donât want to be attacked by my kisses, I advise you to stay away.â
âWhat if I want?â She raised her eyebrow.
âSeriously Y/N, I donât know what to do with you!â he laughed. âWeâll definitely take the air route and get married as soon as possible.â
âItâs amazing how shy I still am with your flirty banters.â Y/N sighed, because in spite of being bold, that was not quite how she felt.
Sometimes she managed to keep on her carefree persona, but her feelings for Ten always made her embarrass herself. It summed up in a fool, enchanted by any movement or word spoken by him... Especially when they were addressed to her. Olum, how difficult it was to remain serious at public parties! Both of them needed to behave as if they didnât like each other more than the ânecessaryâ, as if they had priorities and not wished to spend every second together. Thanks to Bhumi, they were able to get away often and make some time to ease their longing.
âAh, Rani Y/N,â he clicked his tongue. why does this shyness never appear when it should?â His chestnut eyes flashed in a playful glow.
âStop it, Ten!â She laughed, shyly. âbut, I must confess, I donât regret you being the first. In everything.â
âIt would be a little too late to regret it, you know?â Ten pinned. âHowever, that does not diminish the pleasure of listening to your confession. I hope that, in addition to being your first, Iâll also be your last.â
âIf we get to Akasha really fast...â She batted her well-trained lashes, like a she used to do when trying to manipulate her father into thinking she was sweet and innocent.
âItâs decided! At the next stop Iâll look for antelopes and tomorrow afternoon weâll be married.â Ten shook his head like an indignant little boy.
âIn my suitcase I have a Vayu scroll and I will make sure that it reaches Ipek as soon as possible.â Y/N winked at the groom.
âWhat a helpful wife I got!
âOlum, you canât even imagine.â She grinned.
                           ⟠⸠⟠⸠âź
The innkeeper explained to them how to get to the antelopes in two stops. They had thirty minutes until there, and the horses were losing their pace along the way. Fear not, Y/N thought, since she already had everything worked out in her head!
Probably, her father would be finding out about her disappearance at that moment, and then he would start searching the palace and the gardens. Then, when he didnât find her, he would request searches around the city. Then, the Royal Guard would issue a search warrant to all kingdoms, and perhaps Chittaphonâs parents would warn Vayu of his disappearance as well. Then they would finally come to conclusion of what happened to the two heirs, and if they were as smart as Y/N hoped, they would march to Akasha.
Only that it would be too late.
Because sheâd be married!
Perfect.
The antelope route was really the best option.
âMaybe I can bend some air so the horses can rest. I can make sure no one notices that theyâre floating...â
âYou schemed.â Ten laughed. âI donât know why I thought I wouldnât do it.â
âPerhaps youâre so excited about the escape that you didnât pay close attention.â She joked. Everyone knew how much Maharani Y/N loved to turn things into schemes. âWell, if my plan is right, we have about fifteen hours to get married and consummate it, avoiding, even if improbable, it to be nulled.â she laughed. âTherefore, we indeed have to take the air route.â
âAmazing, findi.â Ten winked.
                           ⟠⸠⟠⸠âź
Akasha was a wonderful city. Y/N visited there only twice: when she was born, and when she reached her adult age, so she had to seize her title of heiress. She remembered the big trees, especially the cherry ones, the colourful houses, the bright and clean streets, the undeniably blue sky... There never seemed to exist bad weather in Akasha! When they stopped in front of the temple where they would celebrate their wedding, Y/Nâs heart raced. It was a large and flowery place, like a cottage, with symbols of the four kingdoms and their specific plants. Two carriages (one with her guards and the other with his) were waiting for them in the parking lot. Impatient, Ten grabbed her hand and they both entered the temple, drowning in emotion and adrenaline.
âReady?â
âAlways.â she smiled.
Ipek, who had been instructed to organize everything, was talking to two monks and the celebrator. As soon as she saw Her Highness, she ran to help her get ready. They couldnât waste a second of the day!
The typical ceremonial dress Ipek got was cream coloured, adorned with gold accents, and a dark green â almost black â velvet cape that made the costume extremely elegant. From the bar to the knee, the lines formed spirals and points that resembled the starry sky or some forest/landscape seen from above. Her hair was braided with gold threads and cherry blossoms, because they were the symbol of Akasha. At her hands, in addition to the jewels she was supposed to wear, temporary ink tattooed the main crests of the four kingdoms extended from the wrist to the elbow, to indicate the union of these nations. On her feet, more drawings, up to the height of her shin. She should be barefoot, connecting to the nature and the land, as a sign of balance.
âRaja Chittaphon is ready.â Ipek returned to the salon where Y/N was dressed. âNow we just need the ornaments on the face and you can go!â
âIâm anxious.â Y/N exhaled. âLetâs get on with it soon!â
âI promise it will be very quick.â
After Ipek used powder from shiny stones and glued three diamonds above her left eyebrow, Y/N was ready.
Ipek and two guards accompanied her to the decorated courtyard, where those responsible for marrying her had started the blessing in Ten, preventing him from seeing her. Y/N watched, with her racing heart, the black and gold velvet suit he wore, a single cherry blossom attached to the left side of his chest.
âWeâre ready.â The monk guided her to the entrance of the hall.
After a short speech in Akashaâs dialect, one of the monks began to play a harp, while Y/N crossed the room towards Ten, not knowing how to react to the princeâs brilliant and hypnotic gaze.
When they faced each other, the monk handed them a small vase with coloured sand. According to the ritual, the sand symbolized âthe union of two different points in the name of something greaterâ in this case, love, and each one should pour a little of it on a plate, so that the mixture of colours creates a new one: their colour. Y/N watched wordlessly as a lilac originated from the mixture.
âNow hold hands.â The man responsible for the ceremony instructed. âThis is the thread of companionship. For Akasha, you are one, but this does not mean that you should forget who you were before the wedding. One hand is tied to the partnerâs, while the other is free to remind you that there is room for both to grow together and individually.â He tied the ribbon on their fist. âStill united, we will recite the vows and walk towards the end of the celebration.â
Y/N and Ten repeated each word very calmly, although their hearts were desperate for the end. After washing their feet in the water of the main river, Kundalini, to purify their bodies in this new phase, the couple still had to plant a tree as well, symbolizing their growth. And, to the sound of âUnder the laws of Akasha, I declare you husband and wifeâ, several fireworks were lit. Ipek started the party by playing a soft melody over two lovers, and the people present continued with the dance. The newest couple stared at each other, laughing.
âI think this is our cue to escape... Findi.â The nickname now sounded a thousand times wicked in Tenâs voice. âLetâs go?â
âI was counting the seconds.â Y/N nodded, intertwining their fingers, as they still had one hand joined.
                           ⟠⸠⟠⸠âź
Ten undid the first tie of Y/Nâs dress quite slowly. He had done it a few times, but at that moment, it was too special to ruin it in a hurry. They were finally married. He no longer needed to be quick with Y/N. Now they had all the time in the world to love each other as they deserved.
âDo you need help?â Y/N frowned.
âNo, findi. I just want to... Take it slow.â The light entering the room made his eyes even brighter. âBecause you deserve to be adored, from head to toe. Quietly. Every inch.â To demonstrate his words, he raised her fist and glued his mouth to it, running his tongue lightly over her soft skin.
âTen...â She breathed weakly, it tickled.
âWhat?â He smiled. ââAh Tenâ, âmore Tenâ, âplease, Tenâ?â
âPretentious rake.â Y/N shook her head, feeling her heart explode with joy.
âYour pretentious rake. Your favourite rake. Yours, for eternity.â
She closed her eyes at those words. She was his, too, since the damn smile he gave her in the hall of Apas-Jalâs palace. Olum, how could one live with so much love inside them?! And how lucky had she been to feel that and be reciprocated?!
Iâm staying up
I donât wanna come down from your love
Ten pulled her close, melting his mouth on her neck, biting and sucking like he knew she liked. He wrapped his arms around her, throwing the damn tie to the floor. Y/N smelled extremely well, having washed and removed the tattoos she was supposed to use for the wedding ceremony. His fingers tangled in the fabric of her nightgown at the mere sound of her quiet moan, trying to go easy, to remain chill. He didnât want to go fast. He had to stay calm.
âLetâs go to the bed, huh?â Y/N suggested, knees buckling from all those emotions.
âI tell you I want to take it easy and you urge me to go fast...â He shook his head, carefully guiding her to the huge mattress. âWhat should I do?â
âYou can start by kissing me here.â She signalled from her collarbone to the valley between the breasts. Ten smiled. âOr, you can let me take off your clothes...â
Itâs not that she didnât want to be worshiped from head to toe, but if her calculations didnât fail, someone from the Kingdom of Vayu would arrive in Akasha by the end of the afternoon... And if the wedding wasnât consummated, they could be in trouble. She and Chittaphon never took more than thirty minutes with sex, because there were always too many people around and if they were five minutes late, someone would miss one of them. It was unfair that their first time since married had to be rushed too, but they would have a whole life together.
But, Y/N should be grateful. At least they were together.
âWhat are you thinking?â
âSchemes.â She joked.
â Now, now, Rani Y/N, that was an unfortunate answer.â He started unbuttoning his shirt. âGuess Iâll need to be a little cruel this time. I donât want you thinking about anything other than my mouth and my fingers on your body.â
âOr your dick.â Y/N smirked, satisfied with the provocation.
She closed her eyes and felt Tenâs lips come down over her shoulder, paiting small bites. With her legs spread, he found space to rest between her thighs while devouring each centimetre of the princess. Her calculations were forgotten as soon as his fingertips went up the hem of her dress, sliding down the inside of her thighs, making her shiver. He reached her underwear and touched her clothed womanhood.
âI want you to do that again.â Y/N moaned.
âDo what?â
âYou know what.â She gasped when he brushed her swollen spot.
âI donât know,â He commented wickedly. âBut I have an idea of ââwhat it is⌠And for that, I will finally need to take your clothes off.â He couldnât believe that after months heâd be able to see her completely naked again.
Rather than feeling shy, Y/N was more than willing to throw the sleeping dress away. They never had much time to get rid of all their clothes, so she was also counting on Ten naked. It had been a long time since she had had such a privilege to see him like that. And the view was always a spectacle!
She sat up suddenly, leaving him a little unbalanced, but grinning. Y/N started pulling on her nightgown anyway, not caring if she would tear it up. Ten could bent fire, but what burned inside her was pure lust. He would have a hard time controlling his wife, especially if he continued to look at her as if she were a work of art. But as soon as the fabric passed over her head, Y/N didnât have time to absorb the intensity of his eyes. Ten pulled her by the hand, kissing her urgently.
With the princess in his lap, he got rid of his shirt and tried to open his trousersâ button. To give him enough space, Y/N stepped back a little, noting a new detail in his left arm: there were two lines near the elbow, one thick and the other a little thinner. Unlike the wedding tattoos, those lines seemed permanent.
âWhat is it?â She asked curiously.
âIn Agni, every married man should have this tattoo. It is like a ring that we never take out or lose.â Ten looked at his arm. âWomen should have these lines on their ankles, but since you are not from Agni, I thought it best not to ask you to tattoo it.â
âI want to!â She cut him off. âIâll do it, if you want me to.â
âReally?â Ten smiled. He was always touched by Y/Nâs loving manner. She was his best companion, in any situation. Even when they could get in trouble, Y/N would not leave him alone. She preferred that theyâd get scolded together than to leave him. âThen, as soon as we wake up, Iâll ask the monk to arrange everything.â
âI think I will have a charming ankle.â She stretched out one leg, moving close to where Ten wanted her most. âOh, oops...â Y/N smirked, faking a shy laugh.
âFindi, findi.â He shook his head, matching her smirk.
âLet me make up for the distraction.â Y/N moved away as she lowered her hands to his pants, finishing unbuttoning them.
âYour wish is my command, findi.â
Weâll get lost together
Let me flow
Ten swallowed hard as soon as he felt her mouth kissing his abdomen. Y/N was not ashamed of trying to please him. She was always receptive and creative, making each time something very unique and very special. Unlike what was expected of an Air Princess â known for being more reserved and a little cold. Y/N had fire inside her. She burned like him⌠Burned with him. For him.
With her delicate fingers, Y/N removed Tenâs pants, and began her exploration on his belly, playing with the fine line of hair up to the underwear he was wearing. It was unusual for her to dedicate themselves so much to foreplay, but she was loving seeing Ten so mesmerized by her movements. Very gently, Y/N took him with one hand, going on with a lazy back and forth motion, just to make him double hard and more desperate. Her eyes found the glowing chestnut globes and she smirked, causing a burst of pleasure to break inside Ten, who moaned loudly.
That was enough for him. Blast trying to prolong the moment! He needed Y/N and he needed her now. Pulling her by the chin, they came face to face.
âI miss you,â The distance between their mouths became even smaller. âaround me.â
The kiss began sweet, slow, but charged with lust. Both were already familiar with the delicious sensations that any scarce touch between them provided, but nothing compared to the anxiety build during foreplay. It was very, very good. Their bodies were tickling and hot, their hearts beating fast and their minds remembering all those times when they were together.
How glorious it was when they met.
It was a different, more intense sensation. Y/N didnât understand why she wanted to cry and laugh out loud, like a crazy girl. The tossed their underwear out, surrendering to the bubbling desire. Ten put her hands on his shoulders and smiled warmly, making the frenzy an act of zeal. He leaned down to kiss her again, and from there, it was automatic. Y/Nâs hip followed its own will and moved, showing exactly what it was looking for. The kiss became wet and some moans escaped not so quietly. Tenâs husky voice was the turning point for the princess.
âCome here.â He asked in a whisper.
Ten turned her on the bed and stood over her, waist between her legs. He entered without warning, fast and strong. A louder than expected groan left her throat, earning a chuckle mixed with a grunt from the prince. Y/N brought her hands to his back, dividing her attention between his shoulder blades and his dark, silky hair. With a love bite at the junction of her neck and shoulder, Ten started to move. Slow and intense, but picking up as the seconds passed by. Y/N already knew what to do to please him, so she devoted herself to his neck, trying to occupy her mouth with something other than âOh, Tenâ or scandalous moans. He grabbed one of her thighs and wrapped it around her waist, managing to reach deeper. Then, he was thrusting hard and fast. Y/N rolled her eyes and arched her back, forgetting about the whole world.
This was perfect.
Her stomach churned with several knots of pleasure, the peak of her orgasm reaching its maximum when Ten grabbed her face and kissed her urgently. Y/N felt the spasms in every cell, not knowing if she was able to enjoy her climax and kiss Ten at the same time. The prince continued to dive deeper until he too reached his release, making her want to get there again. Y/N slipped a hand to her swollen spot and began to rub it, tightening her muscles even more and listening to Tenâs sexy growls. And it worked.
Donât ever let me come down from your love
From your love, from your love
                           ⟠⸠⟠⸠âź
Ten examined his wifeâs ankle, amused by the way she didnât try to pretend that the tattoo was a âbig dealâ.
âI still donât understand why you didnât want to tell me that this was common in Agni.â She lowered her dressâ skirt. âIt looks rather cute on my ankle, doesnât it?â
âYou look rather cute, indeed.â
âNot me, the tattoo you didnât want to tell me about!â She grinned.
âAre we going to talk about this again?â He hugged her, placing a sweet kiss on her cheek. âThank you, anyway, for accepting. I love you.â
âMy pleasure.â Y/N waved her hand. âLove you more.â
Ten offered her a glass of water and a cookie, because she hadnât eaten breakfast in her desperation to get the tattoo. The monk finished cleaning the room and excused himself, but as soon as he left, Ipek hurried in.
âRani Y/N! Rani Y/N!â
âWhat is it, Ipek?â Y/N disengaged herself from Tenâs embrace and stood up.
âSamraat Bhima is here... And he didnât come alone.â Ipek pointed to the window.
When she pulled the curtain, Y/N could see Vayuâs flags extending across a large part of the street, accompanied by some of Agniâs. She turned to Ten in a mixture of concern and joy. It was time to announce to the kingdoms what they had done. And to hope that love would be enough.
âOlum, findi, it looks like we have some nations to win back.â She grinned.
And hand in hand, they went out to face the nations of Air and Fire.

she's mine / ari levinson
werewolf au
authorâs note: fic for @lielullabye 500 challenge, congratulationsđ(this is a repost of my work) dedicated to @sweater-daddiesdumbdork love you amberđ
warnings: angst, mentions of sexual harassment, threats
prompts: slight beauty and the beast au; werewolf!ari x mate!reader
read please: this is an alternate universe with ari levinson, in this fic thereâs no RSDR, no guy thomas, just the man with the same principles and ideals; also, my knowledge on werewolf dynamics is limited, iâm writing this with what i know from what iâve read before
âWhy do you hate her so much?â Sam asked Ari. They were coming back from yet another successful battle against rogues. Those wolves were tormenting packs all around the state and Ari made it his mission to help as many packs as he could. But the rogues were still coming, they were relentless.
âI donât hate her.â He grumbled.
Ari didnât want a mate. Simple as that. He didnât want to deal with caring about someone who had the power to kill him. He was fine with saving packs from being murdered by rogues. That was his mission in life. No getting distracted.
Until she came along. Until he saved her.
Ari wanted to despise her. He needed to hate her.
Why couldnât he just bring himself to reject her?
He had tried so many times. It would be so easy to go up to her, reject her and be free of their so called bond. The human in him didnât want to be cruel. But he couldnât allow himself to care for her, for anybody. That was the animalistic part of him. Because the wolf part of him wanted nothing more than to be her mate.
Still he couldnât do it.
âOkay, then. Let me rephrase.â Sam chuckled, making Ari grit his teeth. âWhy do you dislike her so much?â
âCan we not do this right now? Iâm tired.â
âWe never do this. You are always tired when it comes to her. Funny because sheâs as quiet about you whenever I ask her.â
Ariâs head whipped so fast in Samâs direction. âSo now you are talking to her?â He demanded to know, his Alpha voice coming through. He didnât know why Sam talking to her was making his blood boil.
Samâs laugh boomed. It was so easy riling him up when it came to Y/N. âSo what if I am?â He taunted.
Ari stopped the car, tires screeching on the pavement, making the cars behind struggle to stop as well. He got out of the car and before going to Samâs side, he mind-linked his wolves.
âEverybody get to the house, now!â
The first driver resumed driving and the rest followed. The Alphaâs orders were clear. They wouldnât want to disobey in any way, especially with an angry Alpha.
Ari opened Samâs door and took him out by his shirt. âSheâs a really nice girl, Ari.â Sam continued his teasing. If Ari wasnât so angry, heâd realise what Samâs intentions were. He would also know that Sam meant no harm and would never disrespect Y/N nor his Alpha. âWhy are you so worked up over me and her?â
Ari dropped him and Sam took a deep breath. âLetâs go.â
Back at the pack house, Ari walked in with his mind set on someone. His pack bowed in respect and in other circumstances, he would nod in acknowledgement but he was on a mission. He opened door, making young wolves whimper in fear, something he regretted instantly. He tried calming himself down but the she and Sam would pop into his mind.
At last he found her. The sight in front of him doing something to his heart. Y/N was sitting with a book in her hands, the pages showing cartoon wolves. Around fifteen toddler wolves were sitting in front of her, their attention on the captivating woman telling the story. Her hands moving gracefully and her words smooth as honey.
âFuck.â Ari muttered under his breath. Y/N gasped, letting him know that she had heard and so would the younglings would have if they werenât so captured by the story. Their eyes locked and she looked away first, intimidated by his hard stare. âY/N, a word.â She nodded in acknowledgement and closed the bedtime story.
Simultaneous whines came from the young wolves. âItâs time to sleep. We can finish tomorrow.â She said in a soft voice and Ari cursed in his mind. He stepped aside as the wolves dragged their feet towards their respective rooms. Ari let out a small chuckle at the sight. âHow can I help you?â His head snapped in her direction and instinctively took a step back, something as an Alpha he shouldnât have done. Weakness. Exactly why he didnât want a mate. Especially a beautiful one with a voice like velvet.
Y/N bowed her head and took two steps back when Ari did that. He hasnât officially rejected her yet but she knew it would nearly kill her whenever he did. It was already painful and he had only put some space between them. It was a ticking bomb that he was handing her and she no choice but to accept it.
Ari swallowed hard as he realised what he made her feel but then Samâs words sounded in his mind again. âWhy have you been talking to Sam?â No, he wasnât beating around the bush. He needed to know with urgency what was going between his Beta and his very own mate.
âWhat do you mean?â Y/N sounded genuinely confused.
Ari groaned. âDonât play dumb, Y/N. He told me you two have been talking and I want to know why.â He didnât realise he had walked into her personal space until there was nothing else he could smell but her. And it was maddening.
âAlpha,â Y/N whispered, feeling her heart beating worryingly fast and her wolf clawing for a way out, ready to be with her mate.
The way his title sounded coming out of her lips pushed him to the edge. In a swift movement, he carefully pushed her against the wall and kissed her. His lips were devouring her and she tried her best to keep up with him. As an Alpha, she knew he had the upper hand when it came to dominating her. And she loved it. The way his hands were firmly but gently cupping her cheeks until they needed air. Then one of his hands left to cup the back of her neck and the other to wrap around her waist. His hot breath fanned from his cheek, her jaw to her neck and shoulder as he placed open-mouthed kisses all over every inch of skin. She could do nothing but run her hands through his long hair, the feel of his silky strands were driving her crazy. And she gripped them tight when she felt his canines rubbing the place where her neck met her shoulder, what would be her marking spot.
As soon as Ari felt her tensing, he came to his senses and pulled away. His eyes locked with hers and his heart hurt when he saw the fresh tears gathering.
Y/N pushed herself off the wall and walked past Ari.
âDonât take another step, Y/N.â He didnât know what to tell her though, he didnât know if he could succumb to her. She stopped, she couldnât disobey direct orders from the Alpha, from her Alpha, her mate.
Ari saw her lips trembling but he couldnât bring himself to move and get her in his arms. And he didnât try stopping her when she moved. He just saw how she walked away from him, hurting him in the process.
Y/N ran out of the pack house all the way to the river a couple of miles into the woods. She knew he wasnât following her but her body could still feel him. Then she yanked her clothes off and shifted, hoping that running would make him disappear from her thoughts. She needed to brace herself, harden her heart for when the time came that he would reject her. Because he had said so. Just waiting for the right time.
/
Ariâs wolf was going crazy. There was too much distance between him and his mate. The only thing that Ari staying put was knowing she was still in his territory. The patrolling wolves of that night let him know that she was safe. And as much as he hated it, Sam offering to keep her company kept his mind at peace.
He knew his resolution was crumbling but there was so much at stake for him. A few minutes with her had him losing focus. Nothing else existed but them. How was he supposed to care for an entire pack when he lost himself in her.
âAlpha Levinson.â
Ari looked up to the door and his blood boiled. Gabe Ashton was the type of wolf that shouldnât be an Alpha. Ruthless, merciless and cocky. Had been tormenting wolves for years but without proof there was nothing much Ari could do to stop him. It didnât help that he had an army of trained and loyal killers that somehow helped rogues destroy entire packs.
âWhat the fuck are you doing here?â Ari stood up and tried moving forward when Gabe presented a gun and pointed at him.
Gabe tsked. âBe smart, Ari. I came in peace, I promise.â His smile was taunting.
âWhat do you want?â Ari gritted through his teeth.
âI have a proposition for you and you will accept it.â Gabe grinned maniacally. âIâve been planning for months. You have a nice pack. Strong wolves. Pretty she-wolves. You have pretty much everything. Last I heard you were only missing a mate to have the perfect packâŚâ
âSam, get Y/N back to the house. Now!â
âIâve been planning your destruction and today, something made me realise that I didnât have to plan so much. I donât even have to do much. You have a weakness but then again, you are not even that strong. Ari Levinson, the mighty Alpha, but are you really?â
âWhat do you want, Gabe?â Ari repeated, his hands fisted and his face red. Nobody threatened him or what was his.
âHowâs that pretty new wolf of yours, your mate? You know, I saw her shift earlier. Got the whole show for myself. Itâs funny. I didnât catch any scent that would indicate sheâs been claimed, she was reeking of you but no mark on her soft neckâŚâ Gabe taunted, waving his hand in front of Ari. âSince you donât seem to care about her, what about I mate her? I wonder how she would look under me as I make her mine-â
Ari lost it. He grabbed Gabe by his shirt and slammed him against the wall. Gun going off before dropping to the floor.
âOne more word out of you and Iâll fucking end you.â He threatened. âSheâs my mate, you hear me. Mine!â
Sam burst into the room. âAri, Y/N⌠sheâs gone.â Samâs voice was frantic.
Gabe chuckled and Ari growled.
âOops, too late I guess.â

request: â...something like little bit angsty but fluff at the end? Something how y/n was getting back late at night and someone follows them and they call boyfriend Changbin?â
warning: feeling unsafe, stalking
wc: 2,2k
(i got a little carried away,, so sorry.)
âââââ
Only the ticks of the store clock echo throughout the empty cafe as Y/n slides their damp cloth across the counter. One of the girls scheduled to close today called in sick, so Y/n figured the extra money wouldnât hurt and filled in for her. However, they did not expect to end the day all alone after the remaining, scheduled closer left early due to a family emergency.
So here they were, cleaning the counters of the deserted cafe, five minutes till closing. Y/n honestly didnât mind closing alone. The aroma of coffee beans and the calm silence surrounding them felt almost comforting in a way. The clock created a soothing rhythm as the nearing end of a long day at work gave them a sense of relief.
But that moment was short-lived as the front doorâs bell cut through the tranquil atmosphere. A young man of tall stature wandered through the door, much to Y/nâs displeasure if they were being honest. The man was actually quite a regular to the cafe. With that being said, surely he would know the cafeâs hours by now since he has passed the door on which theyâre displayed many times. He was around Y/Nâs age and had burgundy brown hair with bangs that always hung forward, creating a shadow over his deep, brown eyes. He usually just ordered a simple pastry and sat in some corner at the back, reading a book, phone, or computer. None of his behavior ever seemed unusual or noteworthy, so Y/n never concerned themselves with being any more cautious than they usually are around strangers. That is until one of their coworkers pointed out that the manâs gaze seemed to linger on Y/n often. It wasnât too unusual for peopleâs eyes to wander around their surroundings and occasionally get stuck on something or someone. Y/n was guilty of it themselves sometimes, but that thought didnât hinder them from raising their guard still.
Back to the present, Y/n simply planned to tell the man that they could no longer run the coffee machines nor were there any more pastries to sell and give him a short and sweet apology. However, the sound of his voice put a slight wrench in those plans.
âOh, Iâm sorry. Are you already closed?â His eyebrows were raised to create a somewhat innocent look.
Well, the place is empty, chairs are on tables, and the sign on the door you just walked through says we close in four minutes. What do you think?
Thatâs what Y/n wanted to say, but they held their tongue for the sake of politeness and professionalism. Instead, their lips formed a kind smile as they said, âWell, weâre technically still open for a couple of minutes, but Iâm sorry to say that I can no longer sell anything.â
They hoped that was enough to urge the brunette out the door and back onto the street lamp-littered sidewalk. The man in question, however, was not on the same page. He began to shift his weight from one foot to the other as his gaze scanned the whole room, seeming to investigate every corner as if he was searching for something.
âAre they making you close all alone, tonight?â
Now, why would he ask something like that. Y/n was honestly caught off guard by such an unnecessary question; one whose truth they felt should not be openly exclaimed. They had to think quickly, so they just had to bend the truth a little.
âNot exactly. One of my coworkers had to leave unexpectedly..but theyâll be back.â
No one made them work extra; Y/n simply offered their help. Their friend did, also, leave unexpectedly and would be back...tomorrow morning to report for work. The strangerâs brows furrowed as his eyes became unfocused in thought. What he was thinking, Y/n couldnât decipher.
â...I see..would you like some company while you wait?â He raised his eyebrows with slight optimism, and the corners of his mouth rose slightly.
Now, the man was clearly dragging out this interaction far longer than it needed to be. Four minutes had definitely passed, so he had no reason to be here anymore.
âNo, no, thatâs fine. Thank you, though. The cafeâs officially closed, now, actually. So Iâll be out of here in no time. And my boyfriend will be here any minute, now.â Y/n wore the most genuine smile they could muster, positive that they left no room for the customer to object to leaving.
His eyebrows twitched, and he appeared slightly taken aback when the word âboyfriendâ left Y/nâs lips. However, the look left as soon as it came, leaving his usual resting face, lost in thought.
âOh, okay then,â he flashed a full smile this time, showing his top row of pearly white teeth. Then, he turned his body with slight hesitation, footsteps pointing to the door, âIâll see you around.â
And with that, he finally left. There wasnât anything inherently creepy about his last statement, but with context, his wording and tone was somewhat off putting. The city was pretty big, and their paths would most likely only ever cross in the cafe. So why would he say âaround.â
Anyway, it wasnât the only weird thing he had done, so it was time to move on to more pressing matters. Changbin should have been here by now. Y/n didnât bend the truth, that time, when they mentioned their boyfriendâs approaching arrival.
Y/n opened their phone and went to Changbinâs contact. They texted each other three hours ago about Y/nâs sudden overtime, and Changbin was fully aware that he would pick them up. So where was he? Y/n called him twice, both with no answer, before simply leaving a text that they were on their way home. The walk home was roughly ten minutes. Y/n loved it after early shifts but usually tried to catch a ride if the sun had already set, like tonight.
Dreading the extra cardio after a long, tiring day, Y/n just gathered their belongings, double-checked their closing duties, and lastly locked the cafeâs door, mentally prepared themselves for the journey ahead of them. Only a few steps in, they noticed another set of footsteps echo theirs. Changing the rhythm of their footfalls, the rhythm of the mysterious set of steps changed as well, falling in sync. Subconsciously, Y/n brought their hand towards their bag which held protective measures such as a taser and pepper spray. Yet, all of their movements, including their breathing, abruptly halted as a familiar voice called out to them.
âY/n!â
Y/n slowly turned around, meeting the same brown eyes they saw just moments ago. At this point, Y/n was completely unsettled, but they refused to let it show.
âHi..again. What are you..still doing out here..this late?â
âI never saw your boyfriend,â he paused for less than a millisecond, but Y/n could still sense that he was questioning their earlier statement, âget here, so I wanted to make sure you left safely.â
He had to have been waiting for at least ten minutes. And for an employee theyâve barely talked to, who already said they were taken care of.
âWell, thatâs..very thoughtful of you, but you donât have to worry about me anymore,â Y/n let out a little chuckle that also sounded much more stiff than intended and held their hands out to their sides like they were presenting themselves, âI seem to be leaving in one piece, so I think Iâve got it from here.â
He didnât seem too convinced, or maybe he was simply ignoring their words as he took a step forward, causing Y/n to instinctively take a step back.
He pressed on, however, clearly not sensing your discomfort. âIâm not sure I would have peace of mind not knowing whether or not you got home safely.â
âTrust me, itâs fine-â
âI insist-â
âThey said, âitâs fine.ââ Changbinâs voice boomed past your ears.
He had lost track of time while preparing something special for you at home. On top of that, his music was blasting at extreme volumes, surely becoming a nuisance to the neighbors, which caused him to miss both of Y/nâs phone calls. Although, heâs thankful he remembered his commitment with you when he did. He threw the first coat and pair of shoes he could find before, basically, running through his door, almost unhinging it, to get to his partner as soon as possible. Now, he saw Y/nâs rigid form and some random stranger who, clearly, could not take a hint.
Changbin walked towards Y/n and gingerly slipped his hand around their waist, feeling them slowly relax as they leaned farther into his body and gained a steady breathing pattern. His glare was cold as well as neutral and aimed right at the man in front of him.
âI believe I can take it from here.â
The brunette was slightly unnerved but quickly attempted to put on a strong front. âAnd who are you?â
âTheir boyfriend. Now step away before I become their bodyguard and make you.â If it wasnât already cold outside, the icy aura radiating off of Changbin would have surely done the job.
The creep was definitely weighing his options. However, facing Changbin did not seem to end in his favor, so he took one step back, placing his eyes on Y/n. â...See you around, Y/n.â
âI wouldnât suggest it.â Changbinâs eyes never wavered.
With one last glare at Changbin, Y/nâs nuisance for the night finally walked away. As if a weight was lifted off of their chest, Y/n let out a deep breath they didnât even know they were holding. Regaining their composure, their gaze drifted towards their boyfriend who was still eyeing the fleeing brunette. Y/n promptly hit him on the chest.
âWhere were you?â Y/n hit his chest, catching him off guard but not actually hurting him.
Changbin let out a grunt at the sudden assault. âI..got a little caught up with something. Something important.â
âAnd you couldnât answer the phone?â
âWel-â
Y/n was honestly too tired to be reasonable right now, so they just let out a deep sigh and began to walk towards the coupleâs shared apartment, expecting their boyfriend to follow.
Around ten minutes later, Changbin was a fumbling mess as he tried to promptly open the apartmentâs front door under the pressure of Y/nâs tired stare. When the door finally opened, it presented nothing but a dark, silent home.
Y/n walked in before Changbin and immediately dropped their bag which felt heavier than when they left that morning. However, when they started to step into their second house shoe, they froze after the delicious smell of food drifted from the kitchen to their nose. Changbin noticed Y/nâs sudden stop, and a flash of realization grazed his features.
âWhatâs that smell-â a pair of hands being gently placed on Y/nâs shoulders halted their sentence.
âJust..walk towards the kitchen,â Changbin instructed them with a soft, low voice.
âHow am I supposed to walk there in the dark.â
âItâs not like youâve never done it before in the middle of the night.â
Changbinâs tone was slightly accusing but still soft like before. Y/n just remained silent and followed his directions. Once they both arrived at the kitchenâs entrance, Y/n felt the weight of Changbinâs hands leave and heard his footsteps approach the lights.
As soon as Y/nâs sight recovered from the sudden intensity of light, they were engulfed in shock and appreciation. The kitchen table was covered with flowers and many of their favorite dishes. Fairy lights hanging all around radiated a soft glow, making the heartwarming gesture warm their heart even more.
âIs this whatâŚ?â
â..was so important? ..Yeah. I knew you must have been really tired from working nonstop this past week and the whole day, today. So I thought this was the least I could for you since youâve been doing so much for everyone else...do you like it?â
â...Like it. I-I love it! Thank you!â Y/n couldnât say much more before they felt the tears pricking their eyes.
âWait- why are you crying?!â Changbin rushed to his loveâs side and embraced them while panicking because of their unexpected reaction. âAre you sure you actually love it?â
Y/n let out a few broken chuckles and weakly punched his chest. âYes, Iâm sure, idiot! Iâm just too tired to handle all this!â
âOh! Thank goodness. I thought I did something wrong.â
âDonât worry, Binnie. You always make it right. Thank you. For tonight. And for everything.â
âAnytime, babe.â He gave a sly wink with the little pet name but quickly put on a serious face and looked deep into Y/nâs eyes. âI love youâ
Y/n couldnât help roll their eyes at the term of endearment but didnât fail to return the meaningful words. âI love you, too.â
âWell, letâs dry these tears,â he tenderly wiped away the few tears that escaped Y/Nâs eyes, âand get you out of these uncomfortable clothes.â

My Baby Donât Like It || NCT Jaehyun+Mark [part I]
Premise: What went wrong along the way? After everything we had been through, you still chose to leave me?
Pairings : Dad! Jaehyun x fem! reader x Friend! Mark
WC: 2.1 K
Warnings: explicit language, some extreme fluff
Part I || Part II || Part III
"Hey baby! How are you today?" You were crouched down on your knees, shooting a silly smile as the most adorable four year old in the world ran straight into your outstretched arms, worming his way into the crevasse of your neck. You cooed into the kidâs ear, happy to see the boy happy and healthy. He  withdrew from his squirmy snuggles to plant his tiny, moist lips on your soft cheek as his little greeting to his beloved Noona.
"I'm happy to see you, Noona!" A smile lit up his round, chubby features before he nuzzled back into the crevasse of your neck. You rubbed the top of his head a few times, messing up his short black locks, before getting up so that you were finally standing at your own height.
"Thanks for looking after him today, Y/N."
Your heart beat slowed down to a steady, rhythmic pace immediately. The slow, heavy thrumming taunted you as it rattled in your within the hollow shells of your ears. You interlocked hands with the small boy beside you before lifting your chin to see the person before you.
A gentle smile blossomed over your lips, a wave of calm washing over your body as you examined the familiar face before you, "Of course, Jaehyun."
"Remember Y/N, I changed my name." Jaehyun gave you a teasing jab, a dumb grin occupying his eyes. You flinched a little backwards, knives stabbing your poor heart as memories flashed at the forefront of your mind.
âYeah, but you changed it for her.â
"A-Ah, right! Sorry, have a good day, Yoon-Oh."
You released a breath that were holding for a little while as you saw Jaehyun hop into the driver's seat of an extremely expensive, luxury car. The flashy woman in the passenger seat threw an overstated air kiss to the little boy beside you, glancing your way soon after. A scowl replaced the smile you were holding onto desperately as she simply smirked with triumph. Your free hand curled into a tight fist as you watched the car whiz away, to the point that your knuckles turned white and your nails threatened to puncture the flesh of your palm.
She removed Jaehyun from your life,Â
And he allowed it to happen.
You and Jaehyun had known one another since primary school. On a bitter, cold day in the autumn of your second year, Jaehyun nervously approached your lunch table to ask if he could sit with your group, which you guys obviously said yes. While the friends you had in that group all eventually slipped away from your life through your years of schooling, Jaehyun and you had managed to maintain a close friendship. The close bond and chemistry the two of you had was undeniable to the public and private eye. Everyone thought the two of you would eventually get married, which you didn't mind them thinking in the slightest. Jaehyun had always thought the same too, even though there was no official romance. Just adoring looks, sweet gestures, lovely memories, and tense atmospheres.
In university, you finally confirmed your feelings for him, ready for that next step with him. You finally realized that he was your destiny, and you thought you were his as well.
Next thing you knew, Jaehyun found a girl from his economics class and the rest is history. They had an accidental child early on in their whirlwind romance, the one you were currently watching playing with stackable plastic blocks. Anger boiled your blood... you still loved Jaehyun to the depths of your heart, to the point that you regularly questioned whether you would ever be able to move on, but you couldn't understand how dense he was when it came to his girlfriend: Jimin.
Jimin wasn't your average, plain Jane college gal. She was simply receiving a business degree for the sake of having the piece of paper that she didnât even work for. Jimin had her daddy's money and company waiting for her once she deemed herself ready for the role. When Jimin set her eyes on Jaehyun the very first class of economics, it was game over for anything between you two. Jimin made it her mission to claim Jaehyun as her own personal property, in other words her personal boy toy, basically making it her lifeâs mission to rid of you in his life. Or as she specifically explain it, 'spending quality time with boyfie while they were young.' You saw through her sugary sweet act from the moment you laid eyes on her when Jaehyun introduced the two fo you.
She was a brat, a snob, a snake, and any description with negative connotation that you could think of. You hissed as you remembered that the woman even convinced him that 'Yoon-Oh' was a more handsome name than Jaehyun. âHow could he be so under her spell to not see the sort of shit she puts him through?â You wondered.Â
âThe least she could be is a sweet, decent person to make Jaehyun happy in life.â
That would have satisfied you, but in the end, you knew that people never really get what they want. You were left high and dry while a snobby rich whisked Jaehyun away like he was never there to begin with. And the fact that the woman barely paid any attention to her child made you absolutely sick to your stomach. Hot tears pricked at your eyes as you watched the innocent boy giggle as he was currently in the midst of building a little block boat.Â
âTaking random selfies with your extremely adorable child for your dumb Instagram page does NOT count as parenting, Jimin.â
As you reminisced on all of the times that you had to deal with Jimin's endless childishness and her possessiveness over Jaehyun, you felt a little tug at your sleeve. You smiled tearily as you saw one thing that significantly brightened up your bleak life.
"Noona?"
"Yes, Baby?"
"Why do you look so sad today?"
Your heart constricted like someone was squeezing it tightly, already feeling regret as you had been too absorbed in your own thoughts to give him your full attention. You didn't have an early education degree for nothing.
"Ah, just little things, Baby. Don't worry about it."
"But I don't want Noona to be sad! We should get you ice cream like you do when I get a boo boo!" Jaehyun's son, Jeno, happily suggested, probably just wanting to eat some ice cream himself. You were put into a bout of laughter as you lovingly looked at Jeno get up to 'go get you some ice cream to fix your inside boo boo.'
You complied as you simply couldn't ever say no to the precious boy, so you were on your way out to the local grocery store near your house, which you hadn't gone to in awhile. You peered down to the eye smile prince himself who was happily skipping alongside you, his tiny hand wrapped around the middle three fingers of your hand, a gesture that you you screaming in an internal maternal mess.Â
Jimin and Jaehyun have been so neglecting of this poor child lately, always going out on day long dates and luxurious overseas trips, obviously as per Jimin's request.Â
You had to say, you were extremely disappointed at Jaehyun for forgetting his caring, sweet roots. The child you were currently leading into a small grocery store was basically your own, you were more of a mother to him than Jimin could ever be.
"Hey, Y/N!"
You looked around to see who called out your name when you spotted a familiar face, causing you to stumble back with pleasant surprise.
"Oh hey, Mark! I didn't know you worked here! Master's degree yet?" You led little Jeno over to the cash register to greet him, gushing over seeing the adorable guy once again. You knew Mark when you were a senior in college, him being a spry sophomore at the time. While he was a music major and you were an early education major, you two fatefully ended up in the same science requirement classes, leading to a beautiful, supportive relationship to blossom between the two of you. You hadn't been able to see him as of late as you were busy with your job.
"Yeah, Iâm here part time. Needed some money so I can pay off my college debt as I'm looking for a gig at the moment. But anyways, uhhh, y-you look beautiful as ever, Y/N. Is he your child?" You blushed at his compliment while looking down at little Jeno who Mark was gesturing to gently. Jeno was shooting Mark a suspicious glare causing you to giggle as you dropped a hand to pat his head.
"No, this is Jeno, Jaehyun's son. I regularly babysit him."
Mark gave you a confused look, something wasn't adding up for him.
"You and Jaehyun aren't together?"
You were taken aback at his lack of knowledge. You even told him about Jaehyun's girlfriend a long time ago, but it seems like he didn't remember. Besides, you and Jaehyun were very, very not together.
As you were about to explain, Jeno took the spotlight.
"Daddy should date my Noona! She's a lot better-"
"Shh, you shouldn't say stuff like that, Jeno." You cooed to comfort the pouting kid as you hoisted him up onto your waist to rock him a little. He was getting a little heavy for this, but you didn't mind throwing your back out for him.
Mark laughed to himself, throwing a loving gaze your way as you and Jeno bickered for a little. His insides turned to goop as he fell down the tempting rabbit hole once again.
"Well, if you're not with anyone right now... c-could I ask to maybe take you out on a date sometime?"
You abruptly paused your conversation with Jeno to whip your head to the blushing male. A little blush to match his crept up to your cheeks as you reeled over what he just said in your mind like a broken cassette.
"You want to... go out with me?" You whispered with a tilt of your head, needing a firm confirmation from him before you let your mind start playing tricks on itself.
"Yeah, if that's fine with you." Mark restated, biting down on his bottom lip as he awaited your answer.
Thoughts of Jaehyunâs beautiful, warm smile plagued your mind like a disease; you were still very much in love with him. Even if his actions gave you a whole list as to why you should give his ass up in a heartbeat.Â
You looked back into Mark's eyes, finally making up your mind.
"I'd love to, Mark."
"Really?" He choked out, already expecting a rejection coming his way. You were oblivious to it, but Mark had the largest crush on you ever since you became partners for your science class. Whenever he even thought of asking you out, he remembered how close you were to Jaehyun, so he always chickened out.Â
This was finally his chance.
"Yeah, of course I would." You said sheepishly.
"But what about Daddy?"
You looked back to Jeno who was inches away from your face with round, glassy eyes. You sighed as you gave his cheek a quick little peck.
"Your Daddy is happy with your Mommy, Jeno. Don't worry, you will always be the number one man in my heart, okay? We will have a bunch more playdates!"
Mark watched as you comforted Jeno, feeling his heart thump violently against his ribcage. He knew you were the one for him, and he truly pitied Jaehyun, for he couldn't even see the true beauty that was sitting in front of him for so many years. Mark prayed above, thoroughly thanking fate to bring you to him today.
"Excuse me, but are you checking out right now?" An elderly woman appeared behind you with a harsh glare, a sharp tongue to match her tapping foot. You bowed quickly, not too much so that Jeno wouldnât fall off, muttering small apologies as you moved out of the way.
"You better give me a discount for the ice cream, Mark!" You yelled as you walked away with Jeno over to the ice cream freezer. Mark gave you a cute little smile before diving back into scanning the items that that woman gave to him. Though it has been hard in your journey to give up on Jaehyun, there may be just as amazing men that would be better for you out there. You sighed out happily, maybe things were going to improve for you in the future.

Maul X Reader Drabble Part 2
A link to Part 1:Â Â
https://justalittlecloud.tumblr.com/post/628405603084206080/maul-x-reader-drabble
A continuation from the previous installment were sentiments were a clear miss. Here Savage attempts to help, if only Reader would give him a heads up.Â
As usual Reader can be seen as Y/NÂ
Warnings: Maybe angst?
I put the rest under keep reading as to not clutter the dash! Â
She was distancing herself, instead of her usual place beside him Maul almost stood up to redirect her as she took a seat next to his brother, Savage. The other sith was also perplexed but did not bring further attention to the matter, mostly as he could already tell everyone present was painfully aware of the situation.Â
Y/N did not give it any of her attention; she only gave Savage a small smile and greeting before turning back to her work.Â
Similar instances would occur throughout the morning, Maul narrowed his eyes as Y/N again went to savage to discuss the new settlement, and instead sending him messages through her data pad rather than speaking directly. Â
His brother only tried to cast him a apologetic glance as Y/N followed him out to another co-occurring meeting, she still of course gave Maul his notes that she had written the night prior, âI just want to make sure this one goes well, I know Savage can hold his own and easily snap a few necks but it wouldnât hurt for me to make sure no one slides anything in,â he watched her walk away beside his brother, she even dressed differently today.Â
Her usual black silk gowns were often a compliment of his own tunics, like a matched set of black and red.
Today she favored a slate grey leaning towards a gray-blue similar to Savages armor, the alteration bothered him as they walked off now Y/N matched Savage instead and followed him along leaving Maul to dwell on his irritation and sadly for the councils without Y/N to calm him.Â
The other meeting had ended earlier than expected, Y/N stirred her tea for once not enjoying the routine task. Likely as to avoid  the person she shared the ritual task with as much as she could given her role as advisor. Savage had sat next to her, umber eyes looked over the young woman who had been stirring her tea cup for the past 5 minutes, lost in thought.Â
âY/n, how long do you plan to avoid my brother?â It was an honest question he could still feel his brother glaring at them as Y/N walked behind him.Â
âIs it that obvious?â She put down her spoon for once not interested in drinking her tea, of right, it wasnât even the kind she liked too much, this one was Maul's favorite.Â
Savage would have laughed if it not been for the continued dazed look on Y/N, as if she was barely present, âGlaringly so, we left him in a mood this morning.âÂ
Savage looked around the room making sure no one else was there, his brow furrowed, âY/N it may be best to let this feeling go. Youâll only torture yourself.âÂ
Y/n tugged at her sleeve, maybe the color didnât suit her at all, she kept pulling at the material trying to muffle what Savage was trying to explain, a truth she had already realized the other day.
Savage continued, â you must understand, my brother's upbringing was void of affection, any kinship with others, any positive link that likely did not end with a command to destroy. It was only recently that he and I referred to another as brothers, however.â The yellow Zabrak put a hand on hers, â With you itâs different, he actually lets you near, he likes your company and often seeks you out but he may not be able to recognize that he feels something for you.âÂ
The sincerity of his voice made it all the worse , Y/N bowed her head letting her hair fall around her, âI know, why do you think Iâve been avoiding him?âÂ
The silence that fell between the two was tangible, Y/N felt the need to just curl up and hide. â I tried to have him tell me what capacity he wanted me for, âÂ
âWhat was his response?â Savage tried. He gave her hand a comforting squeeze,
â Well I was not outright on what I am feeling,â She recalled the touches and proximity she had with Maul, a hand on his shoulder and the habit of sitting close together as they worked. Each brush of their hands sending more and more warmth as they sat and worked together. â,But I felt my implications and mannerisms were clear,â
How many hours had they spent working together?Â
More than once has she fallen asleep at the desk with him and had woken up back in her own room.
Y/N re-evaluated the moments between them, maybe she had looked far too into the situation,
âAgain as I have said my brother likely has no reference that you are trying to convey anything of a romantic nature, no matter how glaringly obvious.âÂ
She looked up at him frowning, but Savage continued, he needed her to understand,
âI know he likes to be around you, he seems calmer with you, but he may not be able to recognize it not without a real push. You will have to face him soon, this arrangement will only make it worse.â
Y/n couldnât help but laugh, it was bitter and sad, â Of course, Iâm the official advisor now.â She smiled up at Savage with dulled eyes not a touch of her usual spark, âIâve been reaching for this for years and I finally have it. I suppose I should be happy right?â
The door to the room had opened, the familiar grumbling from Maul came through, but not slow enough as he saw his brother still holding Y/N hands. Savage slowly put down Y/Nâs hands, â Just giving her my congrats as your new advisor.âÂ
Maul felt uneasy at the way the two were reacting, wait...why was he so bothered by this? It was good that the two were getting along. However that proximity was something he shared with Y/N, something meant between them and not the three.
Y/n was the first to get up ready to just leave the matter again,
âWell our meeting ended early, thereâs still some tea left. Iâll be helping Savage again tomorrow.â She gathered her items taking her data pad with her, âIâve already sent you my notes for your meetings tomorrow as well so you should be fine without me there.â she didn't meet his eyes, she just looked above him at the windows, the patterned glass was her focal point, she just had to keep it up.Â
Savage internally groaned, he could already see his brother getting angered by this, the crimson Zabrak had deepened his usual frown and narrowed his eyes,â You have your duties, Y/N.âÂ
He wanted Y/N at his side, he wanted her to say her biting remarks at the council as she knew she would win. He missed her touch to his shoulder when she had found yet another scheme underway.Â
âI am well aware, but Lord Maul if you recall I am an advisor to you both, and if that is the case I should also help Lord Savage as well. Itâs only fair.â She was technically right, but he couldn't give her that.Â
She walked past him, feeling his golden eyes looking back at her, â Iâm turning in early today, Iâm afraid I won't be joining you tonight.â There would be no accidental touch, or falling asleep near the other just solitude once more.Â
She didnât stay to hear him call her back, she just looked at the window and left into the halls. Â
The stained windows showed her Sundari, maybe she should linger back to the library.Â
She missed the books and silence, maybe the pages would fill her thoughts with something new, rather than linger on the crimson Zabrak that haunted her.
Maybe she should listen to Savage and let go of this feeling.Â
The library was always empty itâs only occupant was Y/N,she let her fingers run over the histories and tales of old. These were her constant companions, the ones who stayed when everyone had gotten what they needed from her. Maybe she should be blunt with Maul about what she felt, maybe this time someone would stay or maybe she would just still be here in the library chiding herself for being in love with such an impossible person.
She takes a book from the shelf uncaring of its contents and opened it up, âit is without saying that Mandalore will fight until the end....â ah one of the classic histories of the civil wars from 20 years ago, she curled up in her old nook the pillows soft as she laid back and drowned her thoughts with the old tales, no more golden eyes, or intricate tattoos, or glancing at a crown of horns.Â
âYou seem troubled brother.â Savage watched as his brother had ripped apart one of the targets in the training room. Its contents strewn over the floor, the polymer fiber now littering the mats as Maul took out his frustrations.Â
âSheâs hiding something. She has to be.â Maul hissed, âWhat did she tell you?â his tone was accusatory and slightly panicked.Â
Savage thought of what he was going to say, âShe isnât trying anything against you, it is complicated to say the least but it isnât really my place to tell you.âÂ
It was all he could come up with, and it didnât help the situation. Maul was already going at another target with a wooden staff, the impact of a strike ripping through the cover. Â
âSo you know.â Maul began, âWithholding information from me isnât wise.â His voice has lowered, and the staff now pointed at Savage, âBest to tell me.âÂ
What did savage know? What was it that Y/N would divulge to his brother rather than him?Â
Savage just stared at his brother, âAnswer me this first, what did you feel when Y/N went with me this morning?âÂ
Maul glared at his brother, âWhat does that have to do with the information I asked for? Did I not make it clear?âÂ
Savage persisted, â You didnât like it, did you?âÂ
âY/N and I have worked well together of course Iâd want her there.â Â
â But she wore my colors today.â Savage added, Maul gripped tighter onto the staff
â They donât suit her at all, they dull her out. Youâve seen her in black and red,â He let himself linger at that thought, the silky material would sometimes graze against his side, the dresses suited her, she looked every bit regal and at his side, Â âShe was ethereal.â
Savage mentally checked off the question and again commented, âSo Iâve heard, even some of the council have mentioned similar comments.âÂ
Maul clenched his jaw at that, âWhich ones?âÂ
âY/N has already turned each one down, that also seemed to bother you. Y/n is young, sheâs brilliant, it might not be too long before she does end up with someone.âÂ
Splintered wood snapped onto the mat, â Enough with this! â, Maul snarled, â What did she tell you?âÂ
âWhy do you want to know? What is it that brings you to grow so angry about the thought of Y/N.â Savage was truly playing with fire at his point, his brotherâs eyes almost glowed.Â
Maul scoffed,âI need her there, with her with us we can quickly work this plan through.â Y/N taking notes late into the night, her face lit up by the candles she brought in refusing to use the lights as they would interfere with her ability to sleep.Â
âAnd then move on, Y/N will be set for life.âÂ
No more of Y/N coming in late at night with a new idea or some of the tea he enjoyed. No more of the almost brush of lips to his cheek when she reminded him to sign the data pad on his desk.
âWhy would she go?â Y/N turning away from him, her eyes no longer looking at him, but to some figure who took her hand.Â
The notion began to eat away at him, it was already happening.Â
Savage shook his head, â What reason would she have to remain?âÂ
Maul was at his wits end, â I want her at my side! I want her there!â He wouldnt have that, Y/N couldn't just leave him..them..what was that thought just now? Â
Savage merely nodded,â Itâs a start. If you must know, it appears that Y/N has tried to demonstrate her affections but the sentiment was not understood.âÂ
âTo who?!â the crimson Zabrak demanded already tugging on his tunic he had tossed aside earlier and moving towards the doors,Â
The yellow Zabrak internally sighed , âGo ask her, sheâs probably at the library. âÂ
This was up to the two now, he had helped to hopefully establish that his brother wanted Y/N with him and that she had tried to show him her own affections.Â
He just hoped the two could explain what they felt and meant no more of this implication and confused reactions.Â
* Preview for next timeÂ
Maul had never been too deep into the library, but it was the place Y/N would retreat to. Deep into the shelves of real paper and ink, Y/N had curled up in her nook.Â
Her hair cascading across the pillows she had there and fast asleep. She would look almost serene if it had not been for the tear streaks down her cheeks.Â
âIt seems like her sentiment was not understood.âÂ
The lingering touches and the way she listened to him and argued with him. His knee jerk reaction at the thought of her leaving his side, and the loss he felt when she left this morning.Â
âY/N, what have you brought upon yourself?âÂ

It was officially official. You hated math. You absolutely could not get yourself to like it. Honestly, you just wanted to question every teacher that said you would use math in your everyday daily life. Was math really necessary? Did you really need it? You didnât think you did, but your math teacher seemed to think otherwise.
With a big exam worth more than half your final grade coming up, you had done nothing but try and cram the material into your already frazzled mind. It felt like the more you stuffed in, the more that fell out. You let out a low groan as you heard a deep chuckle emit from your bed behind you.
âItâs not funny, Minchan.â You scowled out to your boyfriend without turning around to face him.
You heard your bed creak with each shift of his long limbs moving across the top of it before feeling his warm breath right on the side of your neck.
âI wasnât laughing at you, love. I promise.â Minchan said as he pulled up another chair to the desk you had quite literally buried under papers.
Your boyfriend was quite the card. Minchan was a tall, lanky boy with fluffy black hair that sat just so atop of his head and bounced with every step of his long legs. He had the brightest personality, and the best gummy smile you were certain youâd ever see on a person. He was also quite the genius. Minchan was a whizz at school, math especially. His high IQ and charming good looks coupled well together as he was every girlâs dream. You just happened to win the grand prize.
Minchan never had a problem with his exams, and better yet, loved being able to take them. You, however, were quite the opposite. You were more of a science nerd while Minchan was the mathlete. You two were total opposites.
You sighed. âIâm going to fail this exam.â
Minchan smiled. âNo youâre not. Youâre going to do great like you do with every other exam.â
Shaking your head, you let it fall atop of the open math book that was also buried under paperwork. Minchan laughed again, making you look at him with a scowl that he could actually see.
âThereâs a post-it stuck to your forehead.â He whispered as he gently pulled it off.
He looked over the small note written on the post-it before looking back at you. You were attempting to take in more information before Minchanâs long fingers crept into your vision, closing the book.
âChan!â You whined as he pulled you from the seat.
He brought you down stairs, sitting you on the couch as he spoke.
âSit. Stay.â Minchan told you softly as he headed back upstairs.
You did as you were told but not without great difficulty as the time ticked away that you couldâve used to study. You started to feel yourself get more and more antsy before your boyfriend came back into view. He reached for your hand.
You followed him back upstairs as Minchan opened the door for you. Your eyes widened at the sight of your now tidy room. Turning your attention to your desk that had previously been covered by mounds of math paper, it was neat and laid in stacks as Minchan pulled you into the chair that you had previously been occupying.
âIâm going to help you study, and youâre going to pass your exam.â Minchan said.
You shook your head. âIâm a lost cause, Chan.â
He smiled with a laugh. âDonât say that. Besides, you have me as your teacher.â
You couldnât help but smile. âYou donât have to do this.â
Minchan leaned in to press a soft kiss to your nose as he whispered. âYes I do. What kind of boyfriend would I be if I let you fail?â
You giggled as he scooted his chair as close as the two chairs the both of you were in would allow. Minchan sat with you for what felt like hours as his fingers scaled the papers and pages of your math book, occasionally picking up a pen to help you find easier ways to solve certain problems.
Halfway through your study session with Minchan, he moved back to the bed before rejoining you and handing you a small sample quiz.
âWhy?â You asked with a pout.
Minchan grinned. âExtra practice. Trust me. This will help. Itâs got the three problems youâve been struggling with the most. Take it without my help.â
You whined before gripping the pencil and taking the small quiz. Minchan watched you intently before you handed the paper to him. He read over it fairly quickly before smiling.
âYouâve got this.â Minchan said, pecking your forehead.
As you sat at your desk, the classroom felt more intimidating then the music posters hanging up in the comfort of your apartment. You looked around at the other students as they all seemed more calm on the outside then you were. It was times like these where you wished Minchan was in your class, as just being able to see his smile wouldâve been enough to calm you down.
Your teacher made his way into the class, letting you know how important the exam was as you felt your phone vibrate.
MinđĽ°đ: Youâve got thisđ
You smiled at the text from your boyfriend as you turned your phone off. Your teacher handed you the exam as you took a deep breath. Youâve got this.
The whole exam took almost two and a half hours. When you were finished, you let out the breath that felt like you had been holding for the entire exam. You grabbed your bags, moving the paper through your hands before giving it to your teacher. You didnât feel entirely confident as you exited the classroom.
The first face your eyes landed on was your boyfriends as he was leaning against the lockers across from your classroom. He gave you a smile as you returned it tiredly.
âWell,â Minchan started. âHow did we do?â
You shrugged. âI wonât know until the end of the day.â
Minchan grinned. âThen Iâll keep you company until then. You did well though, my smart little cookie.â
You blushed at the cheesy name as he threw one of his long arms around your shoulders. The two of you walked to the nearest bakery, Minchan paying for a loaf of chocolate bread as you two found a small table towards the back of the bakery to sit at. You both ate away at the loaf as Minchan watched you.
âWhy do you still look nervous? The exam is over. You know you passed.â He said.
You eyed him through narrow slits. âWhat do you mean âyou know you passedâ, if I havenât even gotten my score back yet.â
Minchan leaned onto the table, putting his weight on his arms and elbows. âYou had me as your tutor. Thatâs how I know you passed, and you are exceptionally smart. Whether you believe me or not. Look at me,â
You pulled your eyes from the dark colored loaf of bread as you looked up at the dark eyes of your boyfriend. They held a warmness to them that would make even the most solid block of ice melt on sight.
âYou did amazing. I guarantee it.â He finished off with a whisper.
âYou promise?â You asked him.
Minchan nodded as he grabbed one of your hands, intertwining your fingers as he gave your hand a squeeze. âI promise.â
The two of you cleaned up the area you had occupied as you intertwined your fingers again, allowing the tall boy to pull you out of the bakery. You both walked around the town square for a little while longer before a timer went off on Minchanâs phone.
âThe scores have been posted.â He said softly.
You let out a sigh as you pulled your phone out. You took your time getting to the website to find your score as you slowly looked over the scores of your classmates. Some did okay while others probably didnât even want the test to be on their record. You saw your name and looked up at Minchan. He nodded as you clicked on it.
Minchan watched from the other side. Both of your heads hitting against each other as you craned your necks to look down at the phone. 98.
Minchan let out a yell of happiness as he pulled you into a tight hug. You finally felt relief wash over you as you wrapped your arms around the boy, burying your face into the crook of his neck. You heard him laugh, tightening his grip around you if that was even possible.
âI told you you would pass.â Minchan said happily as he pecked your lips.
You hugged him again, looking up into his dark eyes.
âMy smart little cookie.â Minchan said with a smile.

questions, comments, concerns
âDarling,â You perked up at the sound of Oswaldâs voice calling through the house to you, âI need to speak with you.â He says when he hangs his coat up and spots you sitting in the armchair by the fire.
You place your book down and rise to greet him, pressing your palms flat against his chest as you look up at him, âWhat is it?â
He graces you with a small smile and then leans down to give you a chaste peck on the lips before pushing you aside. You try not to show your disappointment.
âI have⌠a political⌠mission for you.â
You frown, âDarling, you know Iâm no good at politics.â
He smacks a book down on the coffee table and you flinch, âWhat did I tell you about speaking like a commoner? If you want to be my wife you must speak properly! Now, say it again, right this time.â
You clasped your hands behind your back in the hopes he wouldnât notice the way they were shaking, âDarling,â You start and swallow, âHow could I ever be of service to you in politics when my talents lie elsewhere?â
He stares at you for a moment before lowering his gaze, âMuch better.â He clears his throat, âIt is true you know nothing of politics, but that wonât matter, my dear. You have a pretty face, that is all I need.â You wanted to interject here to ask what he meant, but were too afraid to anger him again so you held your tongue and waited for him to elaborate. âYou remember when I have spoken of Thomas Shelby, yes?â
The name rang a bell, you knew he was someone in politics that Oswald could never tell if he could trust or not, but that was the most you could recall. You nodded, âYes.â
âI believe he is trying to plan my murder.â
You frowned, your mouth opened a bit and shock, âWhat? Why would he--?â
âHeâs a gangster, darling. He would have no trouble killing me with his bare hands. However, heâs also a politician now so he wouldnât risk executing it himself. He will have some sort of elaborate plan in place to look like he wasnât involved at all.â
âAnd⌠Why would you need me?â
He smiled and rose from where he was sitting, cupping your face in his hands. He was so gentle, so loving sometimes, you wished nothing more than to melt into him. It was moments like these you knew you would do anything he asked of you. âShelby Company Limited has an opening for a personal assistant. Mr. Shelby will hire you, having no idea who you are, and then you will seduce him and find out his plans.â
You very nearly shoved him away, but instead your body just tensed. Oswald brushed a thumb against your cheek, âNow, now, darling, I know you are loyal to me and this is an absolutely repulsive request. I would not ask it of you if it were not imperative to my survival. You are my only hope.â
You looked up into this manâs eyes and saw your whole future. How could you ever refuse him when the alternative was losing him forever? âI will do it for you, Oswald. Anything for you.â
His smile spread across his face and he pulled you closer to his chest, âI hoped you would say that.â
***
âWhat did you say your name was again?â Thomas sat down behind his desk across from you, a lit cigarette between his fingers. He looked agonizingly bored.
âY/F/N Y/L/N, sir. If you look at my resume youâll see I can help you with many things. Iâve had experience with child care and secretarial work. Iâm very good at recording minutes at meetings and other transcripts, I--â
âThatâs fine, youâre hired.â
You blinked in surprise, âOh, I, really?â
âYeah, you can start by going to keep my children entertained.â
You sat there, sort of stunned for a few more moments before getting the hint that you were dismissed and leaving. You did play with the children and they were lovely, but you still couldnât understand the way Mister Shelby had hired you so easily.
The children were playing a game with you when they suddenly got quiet and a shadow loomed from behind you. âY/N, come with me.â
You stood and followed him out, whispering discreet goodbyes to the children who couldnât hide their smiles from you.Â
âMy children seem to have taken a liking to you.â He started as you left the room.
You nodded, âYes, and I to them. Theyâre darling.â
âDo you know who I am, Y/N?â
You frown, âEveryone in Birmingham knows who you are, Mr. Shelby.â
âSo why would a bright young woman like you want to work for me?â
Bright? You had never really thought of yourself as smart. Oswald certainly didnât think you were smart. âIâm unmarried and childless, I need a job.â You shrug, âThatâs all.â
âAre you worried the job will be dangerous?â
You frowned, âThe job description in the ad didnât seem to be very dangerous.â
âSometimes⌠Sometimes being my assistant could be dangerous. Are you okay with that?â
Oswald hadnât given you much of a choice, but you couldnât deny the fear that chilled your heart as his words, âThatâs alright, Mr. Shelby, I understand.â
âYou can call me Tommy.â He said and for the first time you looked directly into his eyes. They were ice blue, but strangely felt warm. You expected to see the coldness you saw in Oswaldâs eyes, only worse, but there was kindness in Tommyâs eyes. Kindness and a lot of pain.
You nod, âOkay⌠Tommy.â
Thereâs the barest trace of amusement on his face, âGo home then, Iâll see you back here in the morning.â
***
The next few weeks you had more fun than you had in years working with Tommy. He was never cruel to you, always praising you and making you feel like you were important.
âY/N,â Tommy started one day when you came into his office, âThere have been rumors that the nuns who run the orphanage my wifeâs foundation donates to have been abusing the children. Just last week a black child hung herself, the other children have said it was for fear of the nuns.â
You shook your head, âThatâs terrible.â
âYes,â Tommy agreed, âWhich is why I need you to go and record official testimony from the children so I have proof.â
You raised your eyebrows, âMe? By myself? Tommy, I--â
âYouâre smart and capable and wonderful with children. Theyâll talk to you. If I went with you it would only make them afraid.â You looked down at your lap doubtfully, âHey,â Tommy said and your eyes snapped back to his, âI trust you. You can do this.â
It was moments like these that you had to remind yourself that this man wanted Oswald dead. âOkay.â You agreed, âWhy are you doing this, though? For your image?â
He frowned at you, âNo, Iâm doing this because children are suffering and I donât want to turn a blind eye. I know what it feels like to be a helpless child.â
You couldnât wrap your head around the fact that this was the man Oswald insisted killed for sport, wanted him murdered. And yet, heâd protect children who werenât his kin? âOkay.â You agreed, âIâll go tomorrow.â
***
âWhat is the bastard making you do there all day?â Oswald asked one evening as you were putting dinner on the table, âBury the bodies of men he kills?â
You were growing annoyed at Oswaldâs criticisms of Tommy. You knew you ought to hate Shelby, but really, did he think Tommy was really killing people all the time? âNo, Oswald, Iâve told you already. Tommy has only made me do incredibly normal things, like take notes at meetings and play with his children. Sometimes go pick up a package from a shop. Nothing illegal.â
âTommy?â He mocked you, âSounds like the two of you are getting awful close.â
âIsnât that what you wanted, dear fiancĂŠ?â You canât help the lilt of your words, the sarcasm drenching the whole sentence.Â
Heâs across the table in an instant, hand clenched around your throat. You gasp for air, heâs close enough that you can smell the vodka on his breath. Heâs drunk. You claw at his hands, but they only tighten, white spots dot the edge of your vision, âI am growing tired of your disrespectful tone, darling. Speak that way to me again and I will do much worse.â
When he lets go you fall to the floor, hands clutching your neck and tears pricking at your eyes. Oswald laughs at you and goes to pour himself another drink. Your hands shake as you serve him dinner and you donât speak again that evening except for occasional âYes, darling.â and âNo, darling.â
***
âY/N?â Tommy frowns as you walk into his office, âI thought you were going straight to the orphanage this morning.â
You pulled your collar up high around your neck, conscious of the hand shaped bruises you wore like a necklace, âRealized I forgot a notebook to record the testimony.â You said quietly, âIâll be out of your hair in a moment.â
Youâre conscious of his eyes on you as you walk around the room and think he must notice something is off with you, but he says nothing. You say nothing. And then you leave.
The orphanage takes up the majority of your day as you must first gain the trust of the children before theyâre willing to tell you anything. You went in under the guise of a doctor, wanting to make sure they were all okay and the nuns didnât seem to question it.Â
By the time you leave itâs late afternoon and you feel emotionally drained from the devastating accounts of the children who, according to them, were beat and psychologically tortured by the nuns daily.
âIâll warn you,â You say as you collapse in the chair across from Tommyâs desk and slide your notes toward him, âItâs disgusting.â
He silently opens the notebook and reads a few pages before placing it down again, âThank you. Iâll take care of it.â
You nod and stand to leave, âWho gave you those bruises on your neck?â He interjects suddenly and you nearly fall over.
âItâs nothing,â You say quickly and pull your collar around your neck again, âI should be going.â
âYou work for me.â He says as you hurriedly walk to the door, nearly tripping over your own feet, âIf someone is hurting you I can take care of it.â
You freeze with your hand on the doorknob and look down at your feet. The whole reason you were here was to find out how he planned to kill Oswald. And here he was. Unknowingly volunteering to kill Oswald. It was almost humorous. âGoodnight, Tommy.â You said finally and walked out the door.
***
âIâm sorry if I overstepped yesterday.â You snap your head up at the sound of Tommyâs voice whoâs standing at the end of your desk.
âItâs alright,â You said, âIâd rather not talk about it.â
âI just wanted you to know that I could help you. If you wanted.â
He just wants an excuse to kill someone. You thought to yourself, he doesnât care about you. âIâll keep that in mind.âÂ
He stands there for another moment and then takes out a cigarette, âIâd like you to stay for dinner tonight. To thank you for your work at the orphanage. Also, itâs Rubyâs birthday and sheâs requested that you be there.â
You smile, Ruby was a delight. You supposed this would also be a good opportunity to try and get more information out of Tommy. âIâd like that.â
***
Tommyâs wife is also at dinner and you wonder if this will hinder your chances of getting close with Tommy. She seems suspicious of you, faking smiles and pleasantries when Ruby jumps in your arms. She quickly scolds Ruby and tells her not to ruin her new dress.
Dinner is uneventful and mostly silent except when you sneak funny faces at Ruby and Charles, smiling to yourself when they dissolve in giggles. After dinner, Tommy asks you to take a walk with him outside and Lizzie can barely hide her disgust as she storms away, leaving the children to the maid.
âWhen Charlesâs mother died this place stopped being a home.â He said as you walked quietly in the light of dusk. âLizzie⌠Lizzie was happy when she got pregnant with Ruby, but not because she wanted to be a mother, but because she knew it would give her what she always wanted: me. But sheâs not a good mother.â
You frowned, unsure why he was telling you this, âThe children love Lizzie, they talk about her all the time.â
âOnly because she is the only mother theyâve ever known. But then you come along and⌠Iâve never seen them as happy as when theyâre with you.â
You offer him a half smile, âTheyâve made me happier than Iâve been in a long time.â You say, and itâs true.
He nods and is silent for a moment, seemingly hesitating to say whatever he wants to say next, âTell me who is hurting you so I can stop it. If only to spare my children the heartache if you turn up dead.â
You stop and turn to him, mouth falling open, âTommy, Iâm fine. I promise you Iâm not in any danger.â
âA man who would put his hands on a woman will only feel gratification if she dies at his hand.â Youâve reached the stables now and Tommy has turned to face you. Your back brushes against the wall of the stable and Tommy is standing very close to you.
You shake your head, âHe wouldnât.â But your voice falters and you both know youâre lying.
Tommy moves to brush the back of his hand against your cheek, but you flinch at the movement and he drops it back down. You regret it instantly, realizing that you want him to touch you. Thoughts of Oswald and why youâre really here leave your mind and you take a step closer to him. He doesnât back away. You rise on your tiptoes, you can feel your heart beating in your throat as your lips slowly inch closer to his--
âMister Shelby?â
You reel back, slamming yourself into the stable wall behind you. Tommy, unfazed, turns around to see one of his staff standing behind him, âWhat is it?âÂ
âMister Churchill is at the house, sir, he demands an audience with you.â
Tommy raises his eyebrows, âOh, does he?â He looks back at you and then sighs, âSet him up in my office, Iâll head back in a moment.â
âWinston Churchill? What would he want with you?â
The corner of Tommyâs mouth quirks up, âYou know, for once, I have no idea.â He stares at your mouth for a moment too long before turning away and walking back to the house. You quickly walk after him, head still reeling from your almost-kiss.Â
You were engaged to Oswald, you loved Oswald, Tommy wanted Oswald dead. But still, you couldnât deny the way your heart pulled to Tommy. It made you feel sick.
âWould you like to stay the night?â He asked when you had gotten close to the house.
You blinked at him, appalled, âWhat?â
âNo, I donât mean⌠Itâs late, you can stay in a guest room. Iâll have someone make it up for you. UnlessâŚâ He eyed your neck and you fought not to cover it up, âUnless it would be worse for you to not go home.â
You should go home, but⌠What if what he talks to Churchill about is important? Oswald will understand. You needed to save him. You were most likely running out of time. âA bed to sleep in would be nice.â
He nods and opens the door for the house, ordering a maid to bring you to a guest room. âThank you for coming.â He says turning back to you, âIâm sure Ruby really appreciated it.â
You smiled, âI would do anything for her, that girl has me wrapped around her finger.â And you meant it.Â
He manages a small smile and then turns away from you to head to his office. You let the maid bring you upstairs and wait for her to leave before you quietly move down the stairs again, deciding that if anyone caught you, youâd say you were looking for the bathroom. But there was no one to be seen in the corridors of Tommyâs large home. You heard murmurs coming from outside his office door and checked once more that no one was around before pressing your ear to the wood.
â...because there are rumors of you allying yourself with that fascist Mosley, but youâre not his ally at all, are you? Youâre spying on him.â
Oswald. They were talking about Oswald. âYes.â Tommy says.
âWhy?â
âThe honest answer is⌠Iâm no longer sure.â
You listen for a few minutes longer, finding out that both Churchill and Tommy believe your fiancĂŠ is dangerous, someone who would fan the flames of another war. Eventually, you slowly walk back up the stairs to your bedroom. You lie in the bed, staring at the ceiling for what feels like hours. You hear Tommy come up the stairs and stop outside your bedroom door, only to walk away moments later.
You lie awake and think about the man you are sworn to marry. You start to wonder if you really know him at all.

<< Chapter 8
Oh, no I'm not the one, oh, you can ignore I'm not like those you had before Oh, hell no
 âItâs just absolutely ridiculous, right?â
âAre you still on about that?â George asked, his tone laced with practiced boredom as he laid on his back in front of the fire in the Gryffindor common room. He had somehow come into possession of a quaffle and was repeatedly tossing it in the air and catching it, occasionally passing it to Fred when the mood struck.
âYes, I am still on about it! How anyone could read this garbage and believe it, I will never know.â Hermione threw the quill sheâd been writing with onto the desk, ink blotting across her parchment, and picked up the Daily Prophet once again. An avid reader of the wizarding newspaper, Hermione never gave much thought as to whether the stories of journalist Rita Skeeter were true or not. However, as she stared at the words printed across the page for the hundredth time, she questioned whether the woman had ever written anything factual in her life. Harry had told her about the disastrous interview the night before â Rita Skeeterâs devious smile, the basic lack of attention, her casual yet inappropriate flirtations, and her Quick Noteâs Quill scribbling away all the while. Therefore, it hadnât surprised her when the article portrayed a weepy yet confidently disillusioned Harry Potter pouring his soul out and then boasting on his magical prowess. What did surprise her, though, were the last few sentences.
ââŚHarry Potterâs close friend, Collin Creevey, has informed us that the young Triwizard participant can regularly be found in the company of a Miss Hermione Granger â a pretty muggle born fourth year. While officially their relationship has not been confirmed, itâs hard to deny the tell-tale signs of young love,â Hermione read, her voice raising to a shout by the end. Folding the paper, she threw it aside once more, this time as far out of her reach as humanly possible. Whirling through the air, the heavy paper made contact with an unsuspecting first year walking by. Hermione winced and gave the boy an embarrassed apology before picking up her wand and cleaning the ink from her assignment. She looked at the contents of her notes thus far and huffed. The words blurred together, her anger resulting in an altogether apathetic state for anything that wasnât the infuriating article. Turning her head, she glared at Collin Creevey from across the room as he sat in the corner with his brother and a few other younger Gryffindors. They chatted away, playing the perfect role of innocence.
âHermioneââ Harry gave her a pleading look ââcould you please just let it go?â He placed a hand gently on her forearm. At that moment, two third year girls walking past, spotted the placement of his hand, and hurried past, whispering and giggling to each other. Harry removed his hand quickly, grimacing. Hermione sighed, taking a moment to think about how this affected not just herself but Harry as well. Whispers and pointing she could deal with but lies were intolerable. It was just soâŚimmoral! However, she imagined all Harry wanted was for all of this to disappear, to forget about it, and to be able to go back to some form of normalcy. She leaned back in her chair. If she could do anything for him at that moment, it would be to do as he asked.
âAlright, Iâll let it go. But donât think I wonât give this Skeeter woman a piece of my mind when I finally meet her.â She sat forward and began writing out her study guide for transfiguration again.
âI wouldnât expect anything less,â Harry said in amusement, before turning back to his own work.
Unlike George, Harry and Hermione sat at a table adjacent to the fire accompanied by Fred. Harry was working on an extra paper given to him by Professor Snape after his abysmal duel with Malfoy. Hermione was working on transfiguration, and Fred on his latest product. It was another sweet, similar to their Ton-Tongue Toffee, but ultimately very different. Earlier that night at dinner, Fred and George had ran into the Great Hall flushed with excitement. They pulled her away from the Gryffindor table and into the adjoining corridor, ignoring Hermioneâs questions and feeble attempts to pull her wrist from Fredâs grasp. Once out of earshot from their curious peers, they began to bombard her with their latest and greatest idea â Canary Creams. Fred insisted that the idea would be hilarious, a sweet that when eaten, turned the person into a giant canary bird.
Silently, Fred slid his notebook on top of Hermioneâs work and pointed to a list of possible wand movements and an incantation to charm the sweets. It really was a tricky thing when you thought about it. Sure, some sweets were already available that caused physical changes to their consumer, but none that she knew performed full form transfiguration. Pairing transfiguration, charms work, and potions was no easy feat. To successfully develop a Canary Cream, they had to produce a lasting charm that utilized transfiguration elements to result in a temporary transformation of the whole body from human to aviary. It was, to put it lightly, difficult.
George had helped early on with the charms aspect of the spell, but now they needed Hermioneâs help with the transfiguration part â a subject, lucky for them, she was well versed in. Closely, she surveyed the work and found herself quite impressed. The incantation seemed to be correct and the wand movements as well, except there was just something about them that wasâŚoff. Mentally, she visualized the movements and when it finally came to the last movement, she realized the mistake. Dipping her quill into her ink, she crossed off the last tap and replaced it with a flick and then a tap, before sliding the notebook back to him. Fred shook his long ginger hair from his face and assessed the changes she made as Hermione returned to her own work. Looking down at her papers, she tried to find where she left off.
âWhatâs this for?â Fred whispered. Turning towards him, Hermione was caught off guard to find the boy so close, leaning towards her and pointing at her correction.
Blinking a few times, she answered, âYou do want them to be human sized canaries, correct?â
Fred stared at her for a moment, and then back down at the paper before smiling. âYeah, I suppose we do. I knew there was a reason we asked you to help.â
âIf I remember correctly, I volunteered. Should I be regretting that?â Hermione teased.
âDonât you dare Granger,â responded Fred with a wink. Heat pooled on Hermioneâs face and she nervously grinned back, unsure of what to say. Fred spoke again, âAre you sure it will only be temporary?â
âWhat are you guys working on?â Harry asked. Hermione jumped, pulling back from Fred and the notebook theyâd been piled over.
âN-nothing! Iâm just helping Fred with his studies. Heâs struggling in quite a few of his subjects, so he asked me to tutor him,â she lied. âIsnât that right Fred?â She turned to him with a sweet smile.
Fred glared back at her, but ultimately cleared his throat and looked to Harry before speaking, âYeah, I asked Granger to help me. But donât worry Harry. Itâs strictly professional. Wouldnât want you to think I was trying to steal your girlfriend from you.â He ended his sentence with a cheeky grin. Hermione responded the only way she knew how â by kicking him in the shin under the table.
âOw!â Fred reached under the table, and rubbing his leg. âDid you just kick me, Granger?â he asked, his long hair falling into his eyes.
âYes, and you very well deserved it.â
Fred looked to Harry for support but only met his grinning face and a shrug of his shoulders. He then looked to his twin, still lounging on the floor but much more interested in the conversation.
âDonât look at me, I think you always deserve a good kick in the shin,â said George, chucking the quaffle to his brother. Fred caught it easily.
âSome good friends you are,â Fred grumbled throwing the quaffle back to George before they all let out a few good-humored chuckles.
âIâd say theyâre better friends to you than they are to me.â The voice took them by surprise. Looking to the portrait entrance, Hermione saw Ron, having just entered the common room to find the four enjoying themselves without him.
âDo you have a problem, mate?â Harry asked, his voice stony.
âIâm not your mate,â Ron responded, a touch on the dramatic side in Hermioneâs opinion.
âWell if youâre not my mate then I guess you can just piss off. Yeah?â added Harry lightly, turning back to his work. Hermione looked between the two, feeling incredibly uncomfortable and unsure of what to do. Ron gave her a nasty glare before turning to his brothers.
âYou two canât possibly believe him, can you?â
âYeah, we do,â Fred and George answered in unison. George sat up properly, tucking the quaffle under his arm.
âHe may be the Boy Who Livedââ started George.
ââbut heâs not nearly bright enough to put his name into the goblet,â Fred finished.
âSorry mate!â the two called over to Harry who merely shrugged, finding no offense in the statement.
âWhat happened to family loyalty?â Ron asked his older brothers, a hurt expression on his face.
âI think thereâs a âbeing a complete pratâ contingency to that concept, brother. Besides, Harryâs family too.â George stood and stretched before tossing the quaffle at Ron, who caught it unenthusiastically.
Ron turned to Hermione now. âGuess I know why you always take Harryâs side. Thought you two would at least have the decency to let me in on the secret. But I guess thereâs a lot of things you donât tell me.â
Hermione opened her mouth to argue, but before she could get a word out Ron continued, âDoesnât matter though, everyone else agrees with me anyways.â With a final glare, he turned and headed towards the boysâ dormitories, ridding himself of the quaffle on the way.
The common room was silent after Ronâs departure. Hermione realized that everyone had stopped to listen in on the dramatic scene. She really wished they hadnât. One look at Harry and she knew he was wishing the same thing. His shoulders were hitched all the way up to his ears and his face was unnecessarily close to his parchment. The quiet weighed on Hermione like a thick and heavy blanket. She returned to her work, but the more she stared at the pages of her book, the more uncomfortable she became. Every fiber of her being wanted to storm up those stairs and give Ronald a piece of her mind, but she was worried she didnât have the strength. Then something Fred had said to her in the hospital wing rang clearly in her mind, giving her the strength, she needed: âŚthereâs nothing for you to be afraid of. Youâre more badass than I could ever be.
She rose, pushing back her chair. Harry, Fred, and George looked at her.
âIf youâll please excuse me,â she said politely, turning on her heel and heading towards the stairs that led up to the boysâ dormitories. She had only been in Harry and Ronâs room twice before, but she still knew the way. She climbed the spiral stairs in a fury, having no idea what she was about to say, but knowing she needed to say something. Her period of silence with Ronald Weasley had to end. Coming to the dormitory door, she pushed it open, not even bother to knock as anger and determination fueled her actions.
âBloody hell Hermione!â Ron exclaimed, covering his bare chest. He was standing in the middle of the room clad only in his pants, trousers and shirt strewn aside in a pile, as he uncomfortably shifted. His face and chest were red as a cherry tomato, flushed in embarrassment, but he glared at her all the same. Hermione coughed, caught off guard by his state of undress. She had never seen Ron without his shirt, let alone his trousers. Trying not to focus on the freckles that spattered his chest, the flush that now covered her face, or the strange tug in the pit of her stomach, she pushed past the awkwardness of the situation and continued on with what she originally intended to do. Looking to her left she noticed Neville was also present in the room, confused and uncomfortable. She smiled sweetly at him.
âNeville, would you please excuse Ronald and I for a few minutes?â
The pudgy blonde boy nodded quickly and jumped from his bed, fleeing the room in a full run.
âHermione, what are you doing in my room?!â Ron asked in a yell.
Hermione took a deep breath. âIâve come to make peace. To have a heart-to-heart as they sayâŚâ Casually but with purpose she strolled further into the room, past Ron, to sit on the edge of his bed.
âNow? While Iâm sodding naked?â
Hermione rolled her eyes, starting to feel normalcy return at Ronâs thickness. âWell put some clothes on if itâs so important to you, but yes, now.â
Ron stared at her, frozen where he stood. When he failed to move, she raised her eyebrows and tilted her head insistently, urging him to hurry up. Ron scurried to his trunk and pulled on a pair of striped bottoms and a vibrant orange Chudley Cannonâs shirt, before plodding over to sit next to her on the bed. He pulled his knees up to his chest and wrapped his arms around his legs, closing himself off to her and the world around him.
âWhat?â Ron stubbornly asked, avoiding her gaze.
âI think I deserve an apology from you,â said Hermione bluntly.
Ron looked up at her in surprise. âI need to apologize to you?!â
âYes. You doââ Hermione stayed strong, squaring her shoulders ââRonald, we have been friends for nearly four years. More importantly you and Harry have been best friends for just as long. Have we once ever lied to you? Deceived you? Betrayed you? Not supported you?â
Ron didnât answer. Instead he looked down, resting his forehead against his knees.
âNo, we havenâtâ" she went on ââNow I donât know whatâs exactly been said or not said between you and Harry, and itâs not really my business. All I know is that when you accuse me of not being a good friend to you, it hurts. Iâve done my best to try to support you and Harry as I see fit. And that support involves believing and trusting you both when you tell me something. So, when Harry tells me he didnât put his name in the gobletâŚI believe him. Because heâs my friend and until he does something to make me not trust him, I will continue to trust him. Iâm not âsidingâ with him to spite you and honestly this whole story youâve concocted, that weâre conspiring against you, makes you sound like an absolute loon.â Hermione finished her speech and tucked her own legs up to her chest, hoping Ronald would respond to what she said with reason. When he didnât automatically bite her head off or demand she leave his room, she let out a deep breath of relief.
She watched as Ronâs mouth scrunched up in conflict, his long hair covering his eyes and most of his emotion, until finally, he spoke, âI know you two arenât plotting against me.â
Hermione looked at him in confusion.
âWell I mean, I guess at first I thought you were, but now not really. Itâs just not fair. No one likes to be second, especially to Harry Potter. Harry Potterâs stupid friendâŚâ
Hermioneâs heart broke. She unwrapped herself and scooted sideways, pulling Ronald into a tight hug. He stiffened at the contact for a moment and then relaxed. They had never been physically close, the way she and Harry were, but Hermione felt this situation called for it.
âYouâre not Harry Potterâs stupid friend, Ronald. You may not see it, but youâre worth a lot more than you realize. Are you a bit lazy when it comes to schoolwork? Sureââ they chuckled at her comment ââbut you are not stupid.â
She pulled back, looking into Ronâs eyes for the first time in weeks. âYou know, I think if he could, Harry would switch places with you in a second. Fame isnât always a good thing.â
Ron nodded and wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her into his side. Hermione rested her head on his shoulder and felt the heavy weight of Ronâs head atop hers.
âIâm sorry Hermione,â he mumbled sincerely, slightly begrudgingly, but sincerely, nonetheless. Hermione smiled. Despite his bullheaded nature and obnoxious tendencies, Ron really did have a big heart. She was warmly reminded for a brief moment why, despite all his character flaws, she possessed an affection for him.
âSo, how are you going to make things up with Harry?â She perked up, breaking the nice serenity of their resolution with their next challenge. Ron sighed in frustration.
âI donât know,â Ron said, dropping his arm off her and rubbing his face.
Hermione hopped off the bed. âWell, do it on your own time, I suppose, but try not to take too long. Harryâs going to need the both of us this year.â
Ron stood as well and walked her to the door, nodding in agreement. Hermione pulled the door open and turned, looking over Ronâs kind face. A moment of impulse and Lavenderâs nagging words to make a lasting impression took over and before she knew it, she was lifting onto her tip toes and placing a quick peck on Ronâs cheek. She watched as Ron brought a hand up to where her lips had touched, his cheeks turning a shade of pink under his fingertips. Throats cleared from behind her and Hermione turned, finding the twins standing in the stairwell, arms crossed and smirking. They had obviously been snooping.
âGoodnight Ronald,â said Hermione quickly, closing the door in his face and turning towards the twins in annoyance.
âIs this the young love Skeeter was talking about then?â asked George amusedly.
Hermione rolled her eyes, answering in irritation, âGet an earful then?â
âNah, couldnât really hear through the door,â George admitted in disappointment.
âToo thick,â added Fred.
âYou know, we really should invent something for that,â mused George, looking to his brother.
âIâll start whipping up the schematics tonight,â bit Hermione sarcastically as she pushed past them and headed down the stairs. She found Harry right where she left him and sat back down in her seat. Neither said anything as she picked up her quill and got back to work. They sat there for quite some time until Harry finally broke the silence. She wasnât sure how late it was, but the fire was beginning to burn low and they were the only two left in the common room.
âI got a letter from Padfoot last week,â he informed her. Hermione perked up at the news, hoping that something good would come from Harryâs godfather.
âWhat did he say?â she asked, setting down her quill and rearranging her notes.
âNot muchââ Harry ran a hand through his unruly hair ââhe wants to talk on the twenty-second. Guess he doesnât trust sending letters anymore.âÂ
Sirius Black, also affectionately known as Padfoot, had great reason to be untrusting of the mail as he was currently still on the run from the Ministry of Magic. Accused of a crime he did not commit, it was barely a year ago he used his Animagus form to break out of Azkaban, the wizarding prison. Then through a series of incredibly complicated and confusing events (some of which included time travel), she and Harry helped him make his overall escape on the back of a hippogriff.
âTalk? How are you going to talk?â Hermione asked, placing her things into her book bag. Surely Sirius wasnât planning on coming onto the school grounds. With ministry officials scurrying around for the tournament, Hogwarts was a risky place to be. The whole country of England wasnât a safe place for him really.
âI donât know. He just said to be in the common room at one in the morning,â admitted Harry as he collected his things as well. Hermione frowned.
âWell I just hope he doesnât plan on putting himself in danger of getting caught or seen,â she said, looking purposefully at her best friend.
âI just hope he has some advice on how to not die this year in the tournament,â said Harry. Hermione bit her lip and something tugged sharply in her chest. She reached across the table and placed a hand atop Harryâs.
âHarry James Potter, you are not going to die. Not if I have anything to say about it,â Hermione proclaimed the fact with so much conviction, she surprised even herself. Harry looked at her though his round glasses, his green eyes scanning her face. For what? Sincerity? Truth? Answers? Hermione did not know, but what she did know was that she wasnât going to let Harry down. Her breakthrough with Ronald was only the first step. He placed his other hand over hers and gave her a tight smile. Hermione blinked rapidly, fighting the tears that threatened to spill down her face. After a moment they stood and left the common room to their respective dormitories. Not another word was needed.
Fred sat at the Gryffindor table in the Great Hall eating his lunch. He thought there must have been some greater power looking out for him today because they were serving his favorite â shepherdâs pie. The day had been a rough one so far and the little comfort that came from his favorite food was enough to take the edge off. That morning, after another futile attempt to catch a visiting Ludo Bagman, he and George had gone over their inventory and funds. Needless to say, it was depressing. Turns out they needed the money Ludo owed them more than they thought. They were for all intents and purposes, broke. The advertisement they sent out for had profited quite well, but with their motherâs raid before the start of term, their supply was limited and soon they would no longer be able to supply products to keep up with demand. He and George wagered they could make a larger profit off of new and exciting products, but they really only had a few sickles and knuts for pocket money. The whole situation left them with one option.
âHarryâ" Fred spoke, catching the attention of the dark-haired fourth year ââmind being a dear and letting Georgie and me borrow Hedwig?â He watched as Harry swallowed his sip of pumpkin juice and wipe his mouth with the back of his sleeve.
âUh, sure. What for?â
âThat my dear boyââ smirked George ââis classified.â
âReally on a need to know basis,â Fred added, sniffing importantly.
âYou know, I think Iâd rather not know actually. But sure, sheâs up in the owlery. Just make sure you bring her a treat, or sheâll be put out for a while and Iâll have to pay the price,â Harry informed them before stuffing a forkful of mashed potatoes in his mouth. It was at that moment Fred spotted a flushed and chipper Hermione entering the Great Hall. Her hair was especially full and bouncy as she skipped towards them, her cheeks and nose a soft pink hue. Fred imagined she would be in a better mood today after what he could only imagine was a reconciliation between her and Ron last night.
âGood afternoon,â she greeted the lot of them cheerfully, setting her bag down and sitting next to Harry.
âWhatâs got you all pink? Just come from a hot snogging session?â George asked cheekily. Hermioneâs face transitioned from its soft pink to a brilliant red. Lifting her nose up in indignation, she trained a disapproving look on George.
âIf you must know, Iâve just come from Hagridâsââ she loaded the plate in front of her with shepherdâs pie and vegetables ââhe had me over for tea, and so naturally Iâm starving.â
Harry snorted, shooting pumpkin juice across the table. Fred cried in despair as the last of his lunch became covered in regurgitated liquid.
âGross mate,â said George, scrunching up his face as he wiped his wet cheek with his robes.
âSorry,â coughed Harry sheepishly.
âDid you see the new notice on the bulletin board this morning?â asked Hermione. They all shook their heads. She rolled her eyes, obviously annoyed they didnât keep rigorously up to date with the daily affairs of the school like she did. Fred watched hypnotically as Hermione tucked her hair behind her ear and took a bite of her food. He concentrated on the odd way her nose scrunched ever so slight when she chewed, almost like she was intrigued by the taste alone. Hermione had a very small nose. Not in a disproportionate way, but in a very pleasing way, he decided. Thin across the bridge, itâs up-turned end pointed ever so delicately into the air. It was also spattered with freckles, much like his own but not quite as obvious. From far away youâd never see them, but as you got closer, youâd notice the light patterns of golden brown that adorned the bridge spreading under her eyes.
âEarth to Freddie!â George bellowed in Fredâs ear.
Fred jumped, covering his assaulted ear drum. âWhat?!â
âI was saying they just put out the announcement that next weekend is a Hogsmeade weekend. I thought maybe we could all go!â Hermione proposed for the second time.
âOr do you prefer to sit and stare at Hermione all day like a twat?â George asked.
Fred frowned at his brother. âI wasnât staring. I was simply lamenting over the fact that I have to buy Granger a weekâs supply of sugar quills.â Luckily, they were a very cheap sweet, thought Fred.
Hermione smiled sweetly, but Fred caught the devilish glint in her eye he was becoming very familiar with.
âI donât know Hermioneââ said Harry ââyou might have to go without me.â
âWhy?â she asked, her face falling. Fred watched Harry lean in and whisper something to Hermione. She pulled back and nodded, her face a mask of concern and understanding. Leaning back in, it was her turn to whisper something to him â information that he and George were not privy to. Her small hand reached up from under the table and landed on Harryâs upper arm as they pulled back smiling. Obviously, they had come to some kind of agreement that both were happy with. Fred felt an odd sensation wash over him as he watched the two engage in their private conversation. It was the same feeling he got in the hospital wing with Angelina and again when he watched Hermione kiss his little brother on the cheek.
If he didnât know any better, watching this interaction, he might have believed Rita Skeeterâs accusation that her and Harry were entangled. He shook his head, clearing his mind of the strange route his thoughts had taken. Glancing down the table his little sister, Ginny, was sat next to Neville Longbottom and a few of her friends, laughing and gossiping as they ate. Just past them sat a group of first years looking over a copy of Seeker Weekly, and then further down were Lee, Alicia, Katie, and Angelina. The first three seemed to be engaged in an excited conversation. Lee was lecturing Katie on something with a tired look on his face while Katie shook her head and brought a hand up to her brow. Alicia watched the two, grinning as she stifled a laugh. But the last, Angelina, was looking at him. As their eyes connected, he gave a small friendly smile. However, he was not greeted with a smile in return like he expected. Instead she stood abruptly from the table and headed towards the exit to the Great Hall.
Fred stood too. âIâll catch you later Georgie. Gottaâ go take care of something.â
He didnât wait for a response as he raced out of the Great Hall to catch up with Angelina. He found her not too far down the corridor.
âAngelina! Hey, wait up!â called Fred, jogging towards her. Angelina stopped and turned, waiting for him to close the distance between them. From her crossed arms and scowl, Fred could tell she was upset. âWhatâs the matter? Whatâs wrong?â he asked, placing a hand on her cheek.
She brushed him off. âNothing,â responded Angelina, pushing her dark braids over one shoulder, and looking away from him. However, Fred could tell from the tone in her voice that there was in fact, something wrong.
âCome on. Donât lie to me Angie. You can tell me. Whatâs wrong?â implored Fred as he reached out his hand again and pulled her face towards his, coaxing her to look at him.
âOh, now youâre here for me? How nice of you to actually pay me the time of day,â bit the athletic chaser. Her reaction struck Fred dumb. Is she mad at me? he wondered in utter bewilderment.
âWhat have I done?!â he asked defensively. Just then a group of Hufflepuffs rounded the corner, casting sideways glances at the quarreling couple. Angelina grasped Fredâs wrist, pulling him from out of the middle of the corridor and tucking them into a small alcove.
âWe havenât spoken in weeks! Youâre always too busy hanging out with Granger and Potter to spend time with any of your friends,â accused Angelina, chewing on the inside of her cheek, and shifting her weight from foot to foot. A pang of guilt rushed through Fred. He ran a hand through his hair and let out a puff of breath. Now that he thought about it, he hadnât really hung out with any of his usual friends in a while. Lee, he saw nearly every day as they shared a room, but he couldnât remember the last time he spoke to any of them for more than a few minutes. He looked back at the girl in front of him to begin his apology but before he could, Angelina continued.
âLook, Iâm going to ask you something and I want you to just answer me honestly. I wonât freak out or anything, just be honestââ Angelina took a deep breath ââdo you maybe have a crushâŚor something on someone?â
âWhat?â asked Fred.
âYou know? Like on Granger orâŚwhatever?â
âHerâGranger, sheâs just a friend. Sheâs been having a bit of a hard go of it lately, you know, with Ron and Harry off their rockers. George and I sort of took it as our responsibility to look after her. But you know, as friends. Sheâs a cool girl and I like her alright, but just as a friend. Only a friend. Thatâs it,â said Fred, feeling dizzy at just how many times he used the word âfriendâ. It was as he repeated the word, however, that he wondered just how true it was. He hadnât ever really thought of Granger in that way. Perhaps that fact alone meant they were just friends. Angelina seemed unconvinced.
âAs for not spending time with youââ Fred went on ââIâm sorry. We havenât actually been spending all our time with Granger. Mostly George and I have been working on our joke shop stuff. Weâve hit a couple of roadblocks you see.â He let out a frustrated sigh as he thought about the lack of money and dwindling supplies.
Angelinaâs expression softened. âI guess Iâm just used to having you all to myself. Itâs been hard to adjust what with quidditch being canceled and everythingâŚâ said Angelina. Fred smiled knowing that was probably the closest heâd ever get to hearing Angelina admit she was wrong.
âYou know, Hogsmeade weekend is coming up. How about you and I spend it together?â
âReally?â
âYeah, itâll be fun.â
âOkay,â Angelina smiled sweetly.
âAre we good then?â asked Fred. He watched as Angelinaâs smile turned into a playful smirk.
âYeah, weâre good. But we have a lot of catching up to do.â With that statement she grabbed his wrist again and started pulling him down the corridor.
âWhere are we going?â Fred asked dumbly.
âTo catch up. I was thinking itâs been a while since we paid a visit to our secret passageway.â
âOhââ said Fred and then realization struck ââOooooohh! Oh, you saucy minx.â And with that his pace quickened till the two of them were practically running towards poor Gregory the Smarmy.

Hi! I want to have comprehensive list of the BL manga/manhwa etc. that Iâve read because I want to spread the love for this genre đ. This post is a list of works that Iâve read which is not in this page yet + my comments on each work. I hope some people will find something that they like here ^__^
đŁ All BL recs from meÂ
manhwa đ
đ Never Understand
Yuri, one of the school's most handsome guys, and Jaerim, one of the school's ugliest, collide!...or don't they? Can't understand what's going on between these two! It's Out of Control!Â
shounen-ai, completed, 87 chapters
THE STORY IS SOOOO GOOD. The art also improved by a lot upon reaching the later chapters. Jae-rim is dubbed as âuglyâ (heâs a whole cutie tho) and Iâm glad to see a non conventional character design for an MC! I highly recommend reading this!! đđŻ
IncorrigibleÂ
A sequel to âNever Understandâ which is focused on Cho Ayeonâs story after being free from Soyeonâs control.
yaoi, completed, 8 chapters
This has few chapters so maybe that explains the fast pacing. Nonetheless, it was a nice read, I have a really soft spot for Jae-rim so seeing his r-18 experiences with Yuri really got me ahkdjashdkajshd ;W;
đ Dirty Vibrations
Best friends Yeong and Nohae thought it was a joke when they downloaded the infamous âcursedâ app. Itâs said to command the user to performâŚsexual acts and punishes those who disobey or delete it. It started with making them kiss. When they disobeyed its orderâŚthe punishment was anything but a joke.Â
yaoi, ongoing
This one is from Fujoking (author of Youjin)! In all honesty, I love this for its sex scenes. They are so well made, the art, the dialogue, the expressions, and just *chefâs kiss* đ. When it comes to expressing sexual scenes in BL, my top authors would have to be Fujoking for manhwa and Zaria for manga.
đ Paid
Executive director Heejae is nicknamed "Chaebol Prince" by the public. But his life is turned upside down when documents linking him to an embezzlement scheme are unexpectedly found by an accounting collegian Taekyung! So he pretends to have a crush on him, but.. Taekyung wants more than just flirting!Â
yaoi, ongoing
This is another one from Fujoking! This has a heavier plot as compared to Dirty Vibrations, so you get amazing smut AND an engaging story!Â
đ On or Off
Yiyoung is building a startup with his college friends. They get a chance to present their proposal to SJ Corporation, one of the leading companies in the country. But in the meeting room he sees Kang Daehyung, the extremely handsome company big shot that's so very much his type, and Yiyoung's heart starts to race...! Can pretty-faced Yiyoung win both in love and his career?Â
yaoi, ongoing
Okay this! Itâs really funny and the pacing is nice and the characters are nice and the art is nice and the perfect mix of romance comedy and slice of life i just HUHDADKAJDHJK itâs rly a feel good read and both MCs are SO ATTRACTIVE.
Penthouse XXX
Siyeon, a contract killer, has declared a boycott on men after being screwed over by his ex. That is, until he moves into a penthouse owned by Taekyung, a rich heir with killer looks.
yaoi, completed, 49 chapters
It has meme worthy illustrations xD. The graphics are nice but I found Taekyung (one of the MCs) to be a little toxic. Also, some parts of the story were not wrapped up/discussed enough imo. But overall, it was a pleasant read.
Home Sweet Home
The last thing Jungyeon expected was for his mom to ask if she could remarry. The new man was kind, considerate, a perfect match for his mother but thereâs a catch: he has a younger son. Sunwoo is an introvert. Heâs shy and has trouble opening up to others, until he meets Jungyeon and finds himself opening up for the first time. As their parents get closer to marrying, they become close, too close, and thatâs when Sunwoo learns Jungyeon is already seeing another man.
yaoi, completed, 57 chapters
I honestly donât know why this has quite a low rating on mangago because I found it to be a good read! Itâs like sitting through a romance-drama movie. I liked the ending and the relationship between the main couple.
Kâs Secret
Employee Kim Doyoon has been working for 5 years. He has one secret that he can't tell anyone else - the fact that he's a half-vampire born between a human and a vampire.
yaoi, ongoing
The art is so good in the recent chapters ugh. Also the sex scenes are well made. The plot is a little unclear though, and I feel like the relationship of the two MCs are kinda forced and unnatural hahaskdhakjdh. Still reading it tho since itâs ongoing.
đ IÂ have a Boyfriend
Kang Hyeon Ho, who belongs in the university soccer team goes into a breadth class and encounters the person he went to middle school together with and was his first love, Han Gyeol.Â
yaoi, completed, 44 chapters
THIS IS BASICALLY COLLEGE AU ROM COM ADDITIONAL TAG: FIRST LOVE AND ITâS AMAZING. Just a really well rounded story with the right amount of drama to bring out its slice of life đđ Also, this is tagged as yaoi but the sex scenes were few and not that explicit.
đ Voice of Love
After experiencing a traumatic incident involving a previous lover, Jiho is too afraid to tell his classmate Soohan that he likes him. Thankfully, Soohan can hear otherpeople's thoughts and asks him out first. But, as we all know, love isn't always that easy. Will Jiho and Soohan really get their happily ever after?
shounen-ai, completed, 37 chapters
Just a really cute story about mind reading and high school boys being in love. Ah, youth. This will make you feel good like ,,, awww young love :( <3

shounen-ai, completed, 28 chapters
Sports manga/anime always had a little (or lots) of gay, well this one made it officially gay! A cute rom-com bUT I feel like the ending was rushed. I would have loved it if there was more, but nonetheless, a good read! :)
manga đ

yaoi, completed, 5 chapters
THIS IS FUNNY AND CUTE AND HOT AND SHORT BUT REALLY GOOD JUST READ IT YOU WONT REGRET IT!
đ Yoru to Asa no UtaÂ
(Chapter 0)Â ;Â (Sequel)
Asaichi can't play any instruments, his voice is average, and he's only in the band for the girls and the sex. Plus, he's homophobic. For some reason, the new bassist is infatuated with him despite the treatment Asaichi gives him.
yaoi, completed, 1 + 8 + 8Â = 16 chapters
Itâs by Harada (author of âYatamomoâ and âColor Recipeâ) so expect dark themes. Trigger warning for rape. I suggest you skip the rape if you canât handle it because this manga is so good. Its art and story (much like Haradaâs other works) will really suck you in. This left a deep impression on me because the characters felt so alive. I respect Harada so much for that ability.
đ Eigyou Nika!
Sakisaka, stationed in the second Sales Division, has an unrequited love for Toujou, his directing senpai. He had no intention of confessing his feelings. However, Toujou has been awfully touchy-feely lately⌠Is there a glimmer of hope? Please donât let it be a misunderstanding! Which path will these vexing feelings flow down to?
yaoi, completed, 10 chapters
I had fun reading this because itâs so fluffy!! aaaAAAA I love friends to lovers and cuddling and the sweetness that comes from a relationship that is a more than friendship but less than lovers. A lighthearted read <3
đ Mou Ichido, Nando Demo

This is like watching a really good mature drama. The characters feel real and the situations presented in the manga were also something one can easily imagine themselves being put into. A short and good read.

I remember dropping this because MC was obviously raped, but upon watching the first episode of the anime adaptation, they made the sex consensual (thank God) and the story is not so bad after all. I suggest skipping the first chapter altogether and just start off at episode 1 in the anime, then you can pick it up in the manga to see the explicit scenes xD
Thatâs it for now! Will continue updating in this tumblr acc. as I continue on reading more BL ehe. Hmu on my twt if u wanna talk about BL and/or anime and manga in general hehe. Love lots~ đđ
