Another post about unpleasant omegaverse scenarios in my au because I'm a downer I guess. Today's episode is on abuse in families and partnerships so cw for that.

Growling (effects and implications)

I think growling and snarling are pretty big taboos in most (western) places and it's usually completely socially unacceptable. Depending on the scenario it's seen as juvenile at best or dangerous at worst.

The sound of growling can cause a range of responses depending on age, sex, and dynamic. Pups and children are most affected by it and it can cause them to respond with intense fear or anxiety. As people get older it becomes more likely for them to respond with aggression. It's most frequently seen in alphas, but all dynamics can react this way. When coming from someone stronger or a caretaker like a parent or an older pack member, people might also respond with placating or submissive behaviors like making themself look smaller, whining, or even putting off a calming scent. All these effects are part of what makes it such a controversial behavior.

Parents growling at their children is looked down upon and is seen as tactless while children growling at their parents is worse than cursing at them, and the older you get the worse It looks. When pups and kids do it it's seen as an impulse to be corrected (like biting) but the older you are the more immature it is.

Some parents with less stringent rules who are more informal with their kids growl at their kids and their kids growl back at them in a more casual context, but this behavior is almost equally looked down upon by most. In some cultures, it's normalized and sometimes encouraged to growl at children to keep them in line and so they "know their place".

In relationships between family members, pack members, and mated pairs, growling can be used as a manipulative weapon. It's unfortunately not uncommon to find instances of people using it to make people fear them or do what they want.

Pups have weaker growls that get progressively more developed with age, and pups growling at each other isn't that big of a deal. It's seen as normal pup behavior for the most part, but some parents punish their pups severely for it, seeing it as disrespectful. Overall it's seen as more normal in alphas; growling beta pups and especially omega pups are seen as abnormal and can even be cause for a doctor's visit to some. Though excessive growling and aggression can be signs of certain illnesses or traumas, all dynamics are equally capable of the behavior.

It's healthy to give pups outlets to use and grow into these... subvocalizations? Growling. Purring also. Because if they're constantly subdued and stifled it can result in them growing into people with less control over these sounds who growl at every agitation or presumed danger.

The Dueling Duo: A Short Janther Fic

(Disclaimer: I know nothing about sword fighting.) 

Jane held her sword at an angle, admiring the way the blade caught the moonlight. After watching the glimmers of moonlight for a long moment, she looked around the courtyard. Darkness shrouded virtually everything. 

Gunther arrived as silent as the shadows that surrounded them, his own glimmering sword ready.

“You are late.” She told him. 

“Am I? Or were you just so desperate to beat me that you showed up much too early?” 

Jane shrugged. “As far as jabs went, that was not your best work. I expect better from you.”

“And I expect mastery of the sword from you.” With that, Gunther lunged. 

Their blades collided with steady rhythm, striking up a familiar metallic song. It was as familiar as Gunther’s movements, which she found herself easily falling in synchrony with. It was like a dance. She felt a smile beginning to tease her lips. She forced herself to hide it. 

Gunther’s next swing was particularly aggressive, he knew she could handle it. And handle it she did. Their blades screeched as she pushed against his with all her might. But years of sword fighting, and the fact that he was taller than her by default, meant he was gaining the upper ground. In an instant, Jane was twelve years old again, wanting to win against him with every bone in her body. 

While her mind had briefly slid back to being twelve, the rest of her had gained the strength of an adult and then some. She tapped into that strength, feeling herself burning with effort. 

Gunther shrank back, eyes wide. 

“You’re cheating,” he panted. 

She merely smirked. His eyes narrowed and he nodded. Within seconds, he was fighting her with enough strength to rival hers, he had pushed against her sword so that he could get closer to her face. She could feel his eyes on her, taking in every last detail of her face. 

“Don’t you dare throw me off now,” she grunted. “I’m winning.” 

Gunther took one hand off the hilt of his sword and  slowly and tenderly stroked her cheek. 

She used the fact that he’d loosened his grip on his sword to knock it out of his hand. It flew across the courtyard, landing without a sound. 

“I win,” she panted. “I win, you big sap.” 

Gunther stretched, chuckling. 

“Have you lost your fighting spirit already?” She panted playfully, but she herself was losing steam. She liked dueling with Gunther, but she also liked how content he looked now. 

He continued stretching, soon he was genuinely taller. Soon he was a grown man, a look of happiness on his face. She felt herself following suit. 

“You beat me in that round,” he said. His voice was neither young nor old, and beautiful to her ears. “Care for a rematch?” 

“In a moment,” she said with a grunt, putting her sword away and stretching herself. “I can’t believe I almost forgot how good this feels.” 

He raised his brows. “Jane Turnkey, forgetting how good it feels to sword fight? We cannot have that happen!” 

So she drew her sword once more. In the nights that followed, she would draw it again, and again, and again. She would never grow tired of it, and she would never grow tired of anything ever again. She would use this to her full advantage, turning the castle into a gymnasium and scaling the highest mountain peaks before sunrise. She would always climb, not fly, for she never dared to fly without Dragon. 

It was on one of these climbs that she found the paper. It was made in an unusual style she did not recognize, and spattered with dirt, left discarded among the greenery. She picked it up, shaking her head. She could barely read it, but what she could made her freeze.

—and be sure to see if you can spot the Dueling Duo! Legend has it that the ghosts of two knights return to Earth and sword fight in the courtyard of the old castle during the full moon. (Although it’s worth noting that some people claim they are dancing…try to see them and decide for yourself!)

“What is it?” Gunther asked, seeing the paper and the look on her face as she returned from the mountaintop. 

“It seems our dueling is public knowledge. There may even be people trying to watch us at this very moment, trying to figure out if we are fighting or dancing.” 

“Let’s give them a show, shall we?”

It irritates me alot when people say that making medic more compassionate is ''missing the point of his character'' when he is literally shown to be in the comics.... did you miss the part where he showed concern for both sniper and miss pauling's well being in comic 5 and 6.

His actions are a combination of genuine attachment + clinical interest and these things do not cancel out one another. He is always pushing boundaries and going against the grain and i think this is what led to him losing his license in the first place. He felt stifled by the rules imposed on him.

He is shown to be extremely passionate so it makes sense that he would use his endless fascination with medicine as a way to show his affection. He loves his friends so he will find a way to make them borderline indestructible. Malpractice is his love language.

Here is the finished version of my smaller & simplified Hierophant embroidery design! It measures 3.5 inches wide rather than 6.25 like my larger and more complex pattern, and I tried a different color palette for the background to bring it closer to the original card. It's still not perfect but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!

This pattern takes a lot less time than the bigger one, so is more approachable. Both these patterns and my other designs will be available in my new etsy store as I finish writing out instructions and uploading them :)

This finished piece will also be for sale for anyone interested, and I am taking limited embroidery commissions for now.

isn't it weird how if you get up at 7 or 8, do your work all day, then have free time and go to bed at 11 that's absolutely fine

but if i said i get up at 10, do fun stuff in the morning then work in the evening and go to bed late, i could be called lazy, nevermind that i'm getting just as much or MORE work done as i would in a traditional work day
