lays down on the floor. do you guys ever think about medieval scandinavian traditions regarding violence and vengeance? and how those customs are ingrained in viking and tribal societies to the point of them being the norm? and how håkan/hiccup, especially being the son of a chieftain, was exposed and extensively taught those, yet chose mercy and hope when he could? it's not that he COULDN'T kill a dragon—no, hot brutality runs so deep in his veins—is that he WOULDN'T. but also, do you ever think about how he tried to extend that grace to everyone he met, but realised that he ought not to? do you think part of him was secretly happy, relieved and fulfilled when drago and grimmel died? do you think he felt violent when his father died and when toothless almost died? do you think he wanted to make his fists bruised and his teeth taste flesh? do you think he felt vindictive for honouring his father's death? do you think that, maybe, just maybe, håkan realised that the dragons were never considered tribal enemies, but yes beasts, so all that gut and heart came more easily to him? and now that he has blood on his hands, he realised that he isnt that much different from his father, because he chose to protect (and maybe even avenge) his own kind and land? do you think that peace is made out of pretty speeches or conscious claws? do you think he realised it's the latter? do you think he tries to be a shield, but sometimes he must be a sword? do you think he kneels down at night by his father's chair, and talks to him, saying he finally understands? how easy it is to let it boil, to let it fester? do you think he's dragon and man, and that involves the anger, the hunger, the fear, but also the mercy, the cleverness, the courage and, most importantly, the shaky balance between giving up to that primal fire and the cool collected heart to choose change? do you think mercy and peace come unstained? do you think—
