A big ol’ sketchdump I did for my original project Feathers and Flowers, with a big focus on Sakura! I was mostly exploring her as a character, specifically the aspect in which she’s a star athlete on her college team and some sketches exploring the relationship between her and Evangeline. uwu

ALLLLRIGHTY! Now that I've had some sleep I'm ready to share that lore and funfacts with ya, soooooo here we gooooooooo! ------ 1.) As a student athlete, Sakura is expected to train almost daily in order to keep herself in tip-top shape for the team. The training she goes through is pretty intense and ruthless at times, but Sakura actually really enjoys it; it gives her an outlet for the high amount of energy she typically has (she's basically an overgrown puppy). On "cool down days" she runs so she at least stays active, and in this instance Evangeline wanted to come along and run with her. She's never played a sport before and outside the occasional walk, she's never actually exercised before, and she asks Sakura to help her change that. Let's just say, uhhh... well. She couldn't keep up; barely was able to run a full mile (almost gave up half-way but Sakura encouraged her enough to do it) and afterward she's a puddle of goo on the track ground. By that point Sakura's already a few miles in, but she stops to scoop her exhausted roommate up like she weighs no less than a pillow and carry her to the shaded bleachers for rest. "I... I'm sorry..." Evangeline rasps through her gasping, feeling ashamed at her lackluster performance. "I-I should have been able to do more." "Whatdya talkin about? It's ya first time doing this, yeah? You did amazing!" Sakura says, but when Evangeline tries to protest, she shakes her head. "Nup up up! No beating yourself up; ya tried your hardest and that's all I can ask for." She cuts a crooked, sharp smile to her roommate and beams at her. "I'm so proud of you!" With the full force of that smile directed to her, Evangeline's exhausted flush deepens and she feels butterflies in her stomach. 2.) Sakura coolin' out after a hard workout. I was gonna give her a gatorade bottle but I didn't feel like drawin' it, so ya get a default waterbottle instead. Sorz. ;w; 3.) The concept sketch for her college uniform with their home colors. Another thing I'm kinda thinkin' about is, as a star player of her team, Sakura and a few others are often asked to pose and take pictures for magazines geared toward college-level sports. This one could very well be one of 'em; actually that might be fun, to do a sketchdump of Sakura on magazine covers. O: 4.) Towel in hand, Sakura's gearin' up to leave the gym and head on home for the day. Before she goes, she hears one of her teammates shout playfully "didn't know it was sheepdog season, Scruffy!" A cant in her hip, she laughs out,"shut up, Quincy, I look good like this!" Sakura often keeps her hair well maintained and cut in her usual style: long in the front, short in the back. But every now and then, she'll allow her hair to grow longer than usual, and this is what it typically looks like. I really like the look, actually! <: Also, Sakura is pretty confident in herself, but it isn't often she acts smug and cocky about it. o3o 5.) A doodle to show off a clash between Sakura and an opposing player as she tries to run the ball. Sakura's job as a power runningback is to... well. Literally power through anything and anyone who tries to stop her from advancing the ball forward. It's no secret she's strong, really strong, but she isn't the only one, and there are instances where she has to really put her back into bulldozing if she wants to get through. This instance could be a part of a super important game or somethin'; not gonna lie I'm highly considering maybe writing a short story surrounding this doodle. o3o 6.) Evangeline in Sakura's most favorite jacket (outside her letterman jacket). Maybe the two of 'em went out for a post-game party and Evangeline got cold, so Sakura just wraps her up in her jacket without question. Now would be a good time to officially state that, while I don't know the endgame of their relationship, Evangeline canonically does develop a crush on Sakura (this happens a little later, when the whole gang are friends). The football player doesn't actually know that, though, and she's entirely oblivious to it. 7.) Kaela: *knowing look* Evangeline: ... "Why are you looking at me like that?" Kaela: "You like her." Evangeline: What? No I don't. Kalea: ‘Ae, darling, you do. That blush isn't just from the sun, no? Evangeline: "I-! That's jus... O-of course it is! It's hot out and I'm gross and sweaty and... stop looking at me like that!" Kaela: E kala mai ia`u. But you look cute with your face red like that." Evangeline: *sputters and blushes harder* Sakura might be oblivious to Eva's crush, but Kaela certainly isn't. And she certainly isn't above some gentle teasing about it. >:3

8.) Just a quick doodle of Sakura being happy uwu One of the biggest aspects of her design is that her smile is always crooked (always favors the right side) and she always shows her teeth when she does, hence her signature sharp-ish grin. :>

25: Insecurities and 30: Something they treasure 

*All the newsies seem to tense up at the first question*Doc: I’ll start, I guess. Uh- I worry sometimes that I dont pass as guy well enough. Cause Im a guy, but my body isnt an’ I don’t want people thinkin’ Im a girl. And somethin’ I treasure? Bein’ able to be me, an’ bein’ lucky enough to have support. Mellow: *crosses her arms* I dont like people seein’ my drawin’s cause I think they’re crap. Or when people think Im we- I cant look after myself. *she grumbles*  An’ I treasure when I win a fight, ‘specially if I get money for it.

Beans: I- uh. I ‘ave dis thin’ where I go from real loud to real quiet, an’ sometimes Ise worried that people f’rget tha’ Im ‘ere. I really like bein’ with you folks. *he glances at Mellow* Even when Mel’s tryna kill me. *he laughs as a pillow hits him in the head*Booker: I dont like my legs. They’re too… splotchy. They have all these weird shapes on them and I just- I really dont like them. Thats why I wear long pants because I dont like people seeing them.*he fiddles with some loose thread on his shirt.* And I treasure… these people. *he looks around the room* My family- I dont know where I’d be without them. *he laughs* That’s really- mushy and gross I know. But its true. I- Whos next? Someone talk so I can stop talking-Marcus: I dont like using the wrong words in the wrong places. Like instedd- instead of ‘were,’ I accidentally use ‘was’ and- I know plenty of people here use words in the wrong order or in the wrong way and I just… I was kinda- kind of- *he clears his throat* I was… taught- not to use words in the wrong order. and everytime I do it just- makes me feel- not okay. *he hides his hands, which are shaking* I treasure everyone who stops and buys a pape..r- paper- from me because more money means I can keep sleeping under a roof. Benny:  I w’rry my voice is too ‘igh, that I don’ sound like a fella, yanno? ‘Cause I gotta a real ‘igh voice and I don’- I ‘ate it. I ‘ate my voice. Its jus’- its too damn high an’ girly an’ puttin’ on a voice hurts  an’ I don’ know how ta- not sound like a goil. *he pauses, closing his eyes and breathing in, and then out* Im real fond of all-a-yall for helpin’ me an’ my brudders out, ‘specially wid me bein’ kinda useless for the first couple-a weeks. I jus’- thanks.  Sketch: *fiddling with a spoon* I dont like my nose, its crooked an’ wonky an’ weird lookin’. I like havin’ a place to stay, food to eat most of the time, an’ a warm- well, ‘part from the hole in the roof- *she laughs* -a warm place to sleep. An’ even though I keep company with a bunch a fleabags, its- good company. *she nods as if confirming her words*Jazz: I dunno, I guess I’m too loud. *they laugh, a little bit of sadness hidden in it* Hell, my parents found out I wasn’t a-hundred-percent their daughter because they came home and heard me talkin’ to myself from upstairs. And I love dancin’- makes me feel free, yanno? Oh, and bein’ able to come off the street and back to a place where I can just feel safe is a real bonus. Pike: I sometimes feel like I get in the way? Like- I know that Im tryin’ to help people but I dont wanna help ‘em if they dont want me there! An’ I dont wanna help ‘em if they dont need it, yanno? I just… *a lot more quiet, looking at her hands* I really don’ wanna get in the way. *she shakes her head quickly, like she was shaking away the thought, before snapping her head up* I really really like when we get to have food at Frankies! ‘Specially her pies- Frankie makes the best pies in all o’ Harlem, I’d reckon! An’ her cakes are amazin’! Sam: Ise worried that I won’ figure out whether Ise a boy or not- or if I like fellas or not! Everthin’s real confusin’ an’ I don’ like it none. I like havin’ a fam’ly like this one. They aint really my brudders an’ sisters but I love ‘em like they is. Eric: Ise don’ like my belly- its real squishy an’ I aint ‘sposed ta be squishy. Sammy aint squishy, an’ Benny aint that squishy. But…I know Booker don’ like his legs much but I don’ see anything wrong wid ‘em! Cause they’s just like my arms an’ my legs! But- I uh. I like that even though we aint livin’ wid our old Ma anymore, we’s still got a Ma. But we call ‘er Cap’in most o’ da time.Ash: …Ise scared that Ise too slow. I don’t like bein’ slow. I wanna be fast like the others. An’ I like that even though they don’ really know much about me, the newsies let me stay an’ treat me like fam’ly. It’s real nice. *he plays with his hands. Benny pats him on the back and he shuffles a little closer to him*Shorty: *she wipes at her nose* Sometimes I really don’ like how small I am- it aint too big a deal, but its just sometimes people won’ take me seriously an’ it makes me real annoyed. But I do like my name, so Ise stickin’ with it no matta what! Oh, an’ I like Halloweens- *the other newsies seem to echo an agreement* cause we get to dress up an’ people give us candy jus’ for lookin’ scary! An’ I really like sharin’ the candy with the other newsies from all over New York, cause it means we get to go visit ‘em! *The newsies start to chatter about Halloween when Captain walks into the room.* Captain: Hey, shouldnt ya’ll be out sellin’? Whaddaya sittin’ around here for, huh?Sam: Answerin’ questions, Cap! An’ this ones for everybody! Yous part-a everybody! *he hands her the piece of paper with the questions on it* Captain: *she reads the paper and frowns* Insecurities, huh? Well I’ll answer these when you get ta sellin’, which you better go get started on if ya wanna be able to pay Price the rent tomorrow. Go on, get goin’.*they all stand up, groaning and moaning about being interrupted during breakfast, even though they’ve all finished eating.*

Captain: *she looks at the paper again*  …Pretty deep question there, kid. *she shuffles uncomfortably as a lot of the newsies leave* Aite. Fine. Ise worried that the other leaders- ‘specially the big shots like Spot Conlon an’ Jack Kelly- dont think Ise good enough. Or, yanno- strong enough to look after my newsies. An’ somethin’ I treasure?-Doc: *he turns, looking back at Captain* Hey, I’ll meet you at Frankies later? Captain: Yeah, ‘course. *she pauses, watching Doc leave with a small smile on her face.* …I dunno.

Do you have any advice on drawing halo spartan armour?

well..,

yes and no. mostly no, because i am a coward who always Avoids Drawing Armor bc i am afraid of it, so i dont have much experience results to show there.

BUT, as far as learning to draw things in general, and general advice that i plan on eventually following when i stop bein lazy, is lots of reference photos. drawing things from “life” and sort of copying what you see, then comparing what you’re doing with the source, then fixing or redrawing where you made mistakes can help you with learning where you’re consistently messing up and help you notice details you often forget. 

maybe start with a simple and very basic sketch out of just the essentials and basic shapes youre going for, then slowly add more details, but trying to stick with adding detail gradually all over, bc if you try and focus on lots of details on like, just one portion, you could end up with really wonky proportions [thats a mix of my advice + stuff my drawing teacher taught my class WOO]. but maybe taking it one section at a time might help you learn it better [like, if youre drawing a full body, youd wanna do the all over/gradual adding detail, but if you wanna learn bit by bit maybe you’d just practice drawing a bunch of chest pieces?? i dunno, that one’s just an idea lol]

but as far as specific armor stuff, i cant be much help there as i dont have the Experience. 

THIS IS A VERY GOOD LOOKIN GUIDE ON DRAWIN RVB/HALO ARMOR THAT I’VE HAD SAVED! i havent tried it out but i really love that artist and theyre very good with drawing armor. this guide also mentions having them good ol’ reference photos. a good rule of thumb for drawing anything is having some nice references nearby ;p

SPEAKIN OF REFS, THIS POST HAS SOME GOOD HALO ARMOR PIECES TO TAKE A GANDER AT SOLO,  so u can get some good angles there 

i think once you get the general idea you could probs do some simplified versions of it too. ive seen some real basic designs that still look Really Great

you could also creep thru some art tags of cool rvb fanartists and get some inspiration there [as long as ur not like, copying or tracing anyone’s work, it can help ya get over some blocks to see different approaches that various people will take to different tasks]. my cool hip radical mutuals @gdipalomo @amvial @mercuryblacksleg and @scribbleboxfox have some pretty sweet takes on how they do armor if u creep thru their art tags enough c;

EDIT: im also a fan of how @fandomescapades and other artists do the underarmor thing c; so that’s a fun alternative
