Derek being a non-tie wearer and Spencer wearing a tie all the time is further proof of my theory that any man who wears a tie just wants to be led around like a dog (consciously or unconsciously)

Even if it leads nowhere?
Pairing: Spencer Reid x fem!reader
Plot: The hatred Y/N and Spencer feel for one another covers up something that runs even deeper. inspired by the song ‘chasing pavements’ by adele.
Warning: mentions of people not liking one another, mentions of blood and coma, mentions of prison, angst, fluff (?)
note: i just started watching criminal minds, so if i make any plot mistakes i’m sorry xoxo
Tumblr media
No one really knew why Y/N and Spencer hated each other so much. From the way, they rolled their eyes at one another to not wanting to work on cases together. "He just aggravates me.", Y/N states and crosses her arms.
"Oh yeah?", Spencer, who sits in the chair next to her turns his upper body towards her: "Well, I don't like looking at you at all." "At all.", the y/h/ced woman repeats in a high-pitched voice, clearly mocking her co-worker. But before he could react Hotch strikes the table with his fist:" Would you two stop?! This behavior is beyond unprofessional. You understand?"
The two in front of him nod. "I highly recommend that the two of you get a grip before it affects any cases!"
They exited the office in silence. It has always been this way, just not that aggressively. "I don't get it.", Penelope speaks, without looking at JJ, who was busy locating something on a map. She just hummed in response. "Can't you guys, I don't know, profile the situation?", Penelope continued and sensed how her friend was staring at her. "We honestly have bigger problems than their constant bickering."
I've made up my mind / Don't need to think it over / If I'm wrong, I am right / Don't need to look no further /This ain't lust, I know this is love, but / If I tell the world, I'll never say enough / 'Cause it was not said to you / And that's exactly what I need to do if I end up with you.
The shots are fired simultaneously. One strikes the Unsub right in between the eyes and he drops to the ground in a beat.
Spencer swipes the sticky sweat off his forehead with the back of his hand, before he runs it down his face. The last two days have been exhausting. "Everything is going to be okay.", he tells, while he quickly rushes over to help the victims out of their shackles:" Are you hurt?" The tall man examines a young woman's face, but a shiver runs down his spine when he realizes that her eyes are concentrating on something behind him.
When he turns around he sees where the second shot went. "Shit!", he exclaims and quickly makes his way towards an unconscious Y/N, whose hands are hiding the bullet wound in her lower abdomen:" Shit, shit, shit."
Should I give up or should I just keep chasing pavements / Even if it leads nowhere? / Or would it be a waste, even if I knew my place?/ Should I leave it there? / Should I give up or should I just keep chasing pavements / Even if it leads nowhere?
For the two weeks in which Y/N was in a coma, Spencer didn't leave her side. Like a dog lingering at the front door, he was sitting besides her hospital bed. Day and night. Jumping out of his seat whenever doctors came in to check up on her. Derek argued that it was survivor's guilt that kept him there, while Penelope was sure that he was in love with her.
"He has been whining about her since day one.", Derek Morgan says, while softly shaking his head in disbelief:" Remember that, baby girl?" But the blonde woman only rolls her eyes:" This is a classic example of Enemies to lovers. Don't you see it?" But he didn't. None of them did. Spencer notices out of the corner of his eye how Y/N gradually begins to move. "Oh my god.", he whispers and quickly gets up:" Doctor! We need a doctor!"
He disappeared before she fully woke up.
I build myself up and fly around in circles / Waiting as my heart drops / And my back begins to tingle / Finally, could this be it, or?
Spender denied ever being in the hospital. Whenever it was brought up he just scoffed:" I hate those places." Y/N only sighed and took another sip of her coffee:" Wouldn't have expected anything else, Reid."
Should I give up or should I just keep chasing pavements Even if it leads nowhere? / Or would it be a waste, even if I knew my place? / Should I leave it there? / Should I give up or should I just / keep chasing pavements / Even if it leads nowhere? Yeah
"It's your turn." Y/N who is sitting at her desk peeks up from the paperwork. When she stares at Penelope's outstretched hand she wrinkles her eyebrows:" What?"
"The letter.", her friend simply replies, as if it's the most obvious thing in the whole world. But Y/N shakes her head, while an embarrassing smile emerges on her features:" I- I don't think that he would want to read a letter from me. Maybe you should write him one." But Penelope just clears her throat, her hand hovering only a few centimeters away from Y/N's face: " I've written one last week. Come on, Y/N. I know that you've written one. I've seen the drafts in the trashcan."
For a moment the young woman simply stares at her, before a beaten sigh leaves her lips. She turns around and reaches for her bag:" It really isn't anything special, and also- I didn't know what to write about. I-." "I'm sure it's great."
Everyone understood how hard Spencer's imprisonment hit Y/N. She tried not to show it. But the dark circles underneath her eyes and the way she glanced at his now empty desk were proof enough.
"You think she's in love with him as well?", Derek questions while bringing the mug up to his mouth, he eyes his colleague through the kitchen window. "Of course.", Penelope answers, while looking down at the sealed white letter:" It's always like that."
Should I give up or should I just keep chasing pavements / Even if it leads nowhere? / Or would it be a waste, even if I knew my place? / Should I leave it there? / Should I give up or should I just keep on / chasing pavements? / Should I just keep on chasing pavements? / Oh-oh
Y/N who leaning against her desk runs a trembling hand through her hair. She just received the message on her phone. Spencer was out of prison. Fucking finally. And he was on his way to the BAU. "I am so excited!", Penelope softly spoke. Y/N stayed silent. Her mouth was dry while her heart was pounding presumably way too fast. The sound of the elevator door opening up snaps her out of her thoughts and when she turns around she makes eye contact with Spencer.
It feels like all air gets knocked out of her lungs. Penelope instantly rushes towards him and yanks him into a bone-crushing hug. However, Y/N continues to stare at him. Something inside of her prevents her from moving even a single muscle. She feels how hot tears arise in her eyes, while he moves closer to her.
As soon as he reaches her his hands reach for her face and he pulls her into a kiss.
"Oh my god?!", Derek exclaims and his eyes widen in astonishment. Penelope only tugs on his arm:" I knew it, I knew it!"
"I've read your letter.", Spencer whispers and licks his lips, there is a new emotion in his eyes. One he attempted to bury way too long ago. Y/N smiles, while her hands fly up to cover his. "I love you too, by the way."

“And so I named the stars one by one, after every favourite memory of you.” — Stephen Stilwell
Tumblr media
“Isn’t it beautiful?” She whispered, eyes staring up into the night, drawn to the little specks of light dotted in the clear sky. They were laid on the soft grass, blanket beneath them as they looked up together, beaming smiles on both their faces.
He grinned down at the woman who rested her head on his chest, his arms wound tightly around her. “It certainly is. I’m surprised the sky is so clear tonight, I really didn’t think we were going to be able to see much.” He admitted with a little laugh.
She chuckled at that. “You didn’t think we’d see much, and yet you still let me drag you out here at an ungodly hour so we could watch the stars?” She asked, shuffling slightly so she could look up at him.
“Of course. You’re cute when you’re excited, I didn’t have the heart to tell you that the probability of the sky being clear enough for us to see anything was only around 37%.” He explained, intertwining their hands together. “But there you go again, proving me wrong.”
“Hm. Aren’t you supposed to be a genius or something?” She joked, making him roll his eyes.
“I am! Unless you too can recite the Bible from memory? Or the manual for our microwave?” He joked, causing Y/N to give him a gentle shove.
“Can I ask you something?” She whispered, looking up at him.
He breathed out. “Anything.”
They were quiet for a little while before she spoke again. “Do you ever think about our future?”
Spencer’s breath hitched at the question.
Of course, he thought about their future. All the time. Marriage, kids, a big house with a white picket fence, perhaps even a dog. It was the ‘apple-pie’ life he’d dreamt of, more than he’d like to admit.
He gave her a squeeze, one of reassurance.
They’d been together for two years. Two years that had simultaneously been the best and worst of his life. In those years he’d nearly died after being shot in the neck, he’d lost Alex, Kate, Gideon, and the team was still under immense threat from Mr. Scratch. And somehow, admist all the chaos, he’d met this incredible woman who had helped him through it all. The last few months in particular had been rough for him. With Morgan leaving the team and his mother’s condition worsening, it had certainly made him reconsider everything he had in his life and also reminded him of not only what he’d lost, but what he’d gained.
Y/N sighed, but still gave Spencer a smile. “It’s ok. We don’t have to talk about it, I was only wondering.”
“No, no. It’s ok. I’m just trying to gather my thoughts, is all.” He assured her, moving to sit up straight. Y/N sat up too, Spencer reaching out and grabbing one of her hands to hold tightly in his. “I think about it all the time, truthfully.” He mumbled.
“You do?”
“Of course, I do. You’re it for me, Y/N.” He gave a small smile, his gaze dropping to their intertwined fingers. “It’s just, I’ve been thinking a lot lately.”
Y/N nodded, urging him to continue.
“I’ve been thinking about my position at the BAU.” He stated firmly. Y/N’s eyes widened slightly in shock, surprised at the confession. The way he said it was so sure, so certain. He’d evidently been thinking about it for quite some time.
“Ever since Morgan left, I’ve been going over it again and again in my head. I understand why he left. His family needed him and it’s honestly the most admirable thing I’ve ever seen him do. I just wonder,” He paused, biting down on his lip in thought. “Would it be wise for me to make the same decision he did?”
Y/N frowned. “What do you mean?”
“I just mean— Y/N I love you. I want us to get married, have children, I want us to have a life together. And after watching Morgan, seeing how he gave up the job for his family, don’t you think I should do that too? For you, for us?” He explained, eyes finally meeting her worried ones.
“Woah, woah Spence. Are you saying you’re thinking of leaving the BAU?” She clarified, moving a little closer to him.
Spencer nodded. “I know, it seems crazy right? At first I couldn’t believe that I was even considering it but I’ve thought about it a lot and it just, it seems like the right thing to do.” He gave a small shrug. “If we’re going to have a life together I want our family to be my priority, and I just don’t think I can do that while I’m still doing this job. I’ve seen it all first hand. I watched Hotch lose Haley, I watched Morgan nearly lose Savannah, all because of this job.”
Y/N shook her head slowly, much to Spencer’s surprise. “Spencer... I won’t be the reason that you leave a job that you worked so hard for, a job that you love so much. What about the team? They’re your family- “
It was Spencer’s turn to shake his head, cutting her off mid-sentence. “You’re right. The team are my family, but so are you. And if they care about me like I know they do, they’ll support me with this. And as for jobs? There are plenty out there that I’ll enjoy. I’ve actually been thinking of getting in contact with Alex, maybe asking about teaching opportunities at Georgetown.”
Y/N looked up at him, eyebrows furrowing as she studied his face intently. He avoided her eyes, small smile pulling at his lips.
She smiled back, a knowing look on her face. “You’ve already spoken to Alex about it, haven’t you?”
Spencer chuckled with a nod. “You know me too well. I spoke to her last week. She said there’s an open spot as the head of the Criminal Psychology department. The job is mine if I want it.”
Y/N gave him a grin, squeezing his hands. “Are you sure this is what you want?” He nodded, but that wasn’t enough for her. “No, I need to hear you say it. I need to know that you’re not going to resent me in a few years because of this.”
He was quick to shake his head, pulling her toward him as one of his hands came up to cup her face. “I would never resent you.”
“So, this is what you want?” She asked once more, just so she knew he was absolutely sure.
He nodded adamantly. “I want you. I’m only ever going to want you.” He murmured the words so softly that it made Y/N’s heart ache. “Now, and for the rest of my days.”
With joyful tears building in her eyes she nodded, enveloping him in a hug as he kissed the side of her forehead.
Spencer let out a sigh accompanied by a teary smile. He gave her a squeeze, his hands soothing along her back as he looked up at the stars. “Did you know, there’s an old Buddhist saying that when you meet your soulmate, remember that the act to bring you together was 500 years in the making. We’re supposedly, quite literally, bound together through space and time. Isn’t that cool?” He rambled, earning a chuckle from Y/N.
“That is really cool.” She agreed.
“You know I’m a man of science, but how else is it possible that you came into my life at a time where I needed you the most?” He whispered the last part, as though he was afraid to be so vulnerable as to let the words leave his lips. “Do you- do you think it’s possible that the stars brought us together?”
She grinned, tilting back her head slightly to look up at the stars with him. “Yeah, I think so.”
*
Spencer looked down in awe at the baby girl pressed against his bare chest. Josephine June Reid, barely three days old and already she had her father wrapped right around her tiny finger. Nothing he’d ever felt before compared to the feeling he had when he looked down at her, his little girl, his daughter. She slept peacefully against him, her little chest rising and falling rhythmically as his hands soothed over her back, gently rocking her.
There was a soft knock on the nursery door, his tired-looking wife pushing it open. “Spence?”
He looked up, and offered her a warm smile. “Hey, you’re supposed to be resting.”
Y/N gave a sleepy grin, moving toward them. “You know that we’re supposed to sleep when she does, right?”
He snickered at that, raising an eyebrow at her. “You only gave birth three days ago. You know I’m going to tell you to get back into bed, right? Doctor’s orders.”
She held her hands up in a mock surrender, placing a kiss on the side of Spencer’s head. “I know.”
It was silent for a moment, the new parents just staring down at the little life they’d created, filled with such a warmth, such a happiness that they’d never felt before.
“I can’t put her down, not yet. I don’t want to let her go.” Spencer whispered, bringing up a finger to soothe over his daughter’s cheek. “I love her so much.”
“I know. She loves you too.” Y/N assured, watching with joy at how Spencer was with their daughter. He really was a natural with kids.
“You really should go back to bed, love. You need all the rest you can get.” He warned in a playful tone.
Y/N chuckled a little with a nod, bending down to press a gentle kiss to her daughter’s forehead. “I’m not going to fight you on that one Doc, I’m exhausted.” She ruffled the curls on her husband’s head, offering him a warm smile. “Love you. Come back to bed soon, yeah?”
Spencer nodded, promising he would.
Before Y/N left the nursery, she turned back to her husband, calling his name softly. “Spence?”
“Yeah, love?”
“Do you regret it now?” She whispered, her fingers fumbling together as though she was afraid she wouldn’t like his answer. “Do you regret leaving the BAU?”
The question made him frown, it made him think. Did he regret leaving?
His eyes flickered between his wife and the beautiful little girl against his chest and he smiled slightly at the realisation. This was everything he’d ever wanted, here, right in front of him. Every decision he’d made, every moment of heartache, every person he’d lost, they had all lead him there. To that very moment.
And for that, he was so incredibly grateful.
“No.” He replied, his voice as sure as the day he first mentioned leaving. “Not even for a second.”
He supposed he had the stars to thank for that.

Sinful | Spencer Reid
M A S T E R L I S T Criminal Minds Masterlist
smut | sub!spencer x bau!reader requests info summary | when spencer decides to let the witness flirt with him, you decide to have some fun of your own with derek. it becomes obvious that it's a mistake.
this was sitting in my drafts unedited!! I'm still trying to finish up Amortentia part 2 & the Ethan AU. They'll be up I promise, until then.. enjoy Sub!Spencer! This is my first real stab at a dom reader so I hope I did okay. I've read fics about face slapping as a kink and I just wanna let you guys know that I am not comfortable writing that so I probably never will include that.
Also I hate saliva so I probably wont write about spitting either. Sorry lololol
thanks @imagining-in-the-margins for the inspiration! (was totally inspired by "messy lessons" if you guys haven't read it...you should!)
Tumblr media
At first you doubted he knew what he was even doing.
At first.
Maybe he wasn't trying to get in her pants, and maybe he wasn't trying to lead her on. But he was still letting her shamelessly flirt with him. You'd been with the FBI for years and made the silly mistake of assuming that working in the same department as your boyfriend would make things easier on you. Being able to see him everyday is a definite plus, seeing him in danger every time you're in the field is definitely not a plus. Watching a busty blonde witness flirt with him is certainly not a plus, especially when he lets her throw herself into his chest. Supposedly "distraught" but you see the cheeky smile peeking at the corner of her lips.
You see the thing about Spencer that nobody except for you knows, is that deep down he's a very naughty boy. The little mischievous glint in his eyes when his eyes meet yours from across the interrogation room proved that. You were professional however, so you were forced to stand by and watch him comfort her. Bitch.
"C-Could you get me some water?" Her voice was shaky, you still didn't buy it.
"Sure, Doctor-"
"Agent Y/L/N if you wouldn't mind?" Spencer's much more dominating voice cut through yours. Your eyebrows flew up as you shared a millisecond stare down with him. You could see the playful look in his eyes, flashed by the brattiest smile you'd ever seen grace his lips. Your lips stretched in a tight smile before you nodded and turned out of the room.
When JJ joined you near the kitchenette she opened her mouth to say something, but once she'd noticed you white knuckle gripping the faucet handle she changed her mind. She continued with whatever she was doing, not looking at you. It was a tense few minutes until she turned out of the room. While everyone in the BAU knew you and Spencer were together, it was easy for them to forget seeing as you never acted as a couple at work. For obvious reasons. Only in moments of danger, like when Spencer's helicopter went down and there were panicked tears streaming down your cheeks did they remember that you were in fact, together.
Apparently your usually good boy seems to have forgotten who he belongs to as well. The sight you returned to left tendrils of anger licking at the pit of your stomach.
"Oh really, that is so cool! I'll bet you're so strong!" The witness had perked up considerably since you'd left the room. Her hand reached up to curl at his bicep, and he didn't stop her. What a brat. Spencer sat next to her rather than across from her at the table, presumably to console her. Spencer beamed at her praise, an action you did not miss.
"Yeah, actually FBI agents are required to pass a variety of physical exams to insure they're physically healthy enough to chase down an unsub if need be-"
"Here's your water." Your voice was tense and you had to resist the urge to "accidentally" spill the water on her as you set the glass down. You didn't meet Spencer's eye as he stood to follow you out of the room. You could see the naughty façade fading as soon as he'd left the room.
"Y/N?" His voice was soft and his big brown eyes wide when you turned to glance at him. Your heart melted at the sight of those sad puppy dog eyes but you're not going to give in when baby boy broke so many rules.
"Shush." Is all you say, your voice sharp. You're not going to hide the fact that you're mad at him. And you're going to stay mad at him, no matter how cute he is.
"Yes ma'am." Spencer mumbles as he follows you towards the room Hotch is waiting in with the whiteboard. You try your hardest to focus on whatever Hotch is saying but all you can think about is that stupid witness pressing her chest up against Spencer, and the fact that he was practically bathing in the attention she gave him. You hated the fact that Spencer was getting exactly what he wants, he lives for your punishments. In a way, punishing him was also rewarding him but it was rewarding for you too.
After vaguely remembering Hotch asking for Spencer, you watched him scramble forward. You don't miss the fact that he nearly stops to ask for your permission to do so, you have him trained so well. A smile quirks at the corner of your mouth and you almost feel like forgiving him until Hotch speaks again.
"Reid, I want you to take Allison Calloway home..." he lists off where the rest of you will go but at that point you're no longer listening. You hear Hotch pair your name with Derek, which sparks a wicked idea in your head. He's having Spencer take the witness home? Is the world punishing you? You see Spencer steal one nervous glance at you before rushing to get Allison. You tongue your cheek before reluctantly following Derek out of the precinct.
//
You and Derek were apparently instructed by Hotch to go investigate the second crime scene, where a young man with his hands missing was found earlier this morning. You peek at Derek out of the corner of your eye, Derek is one of your close friends and he knows more than he should about yours and Spencer's...extracurricular activities. He seems to be in a good mood today, and he's unlikely to think anything of it. He'll definitely tell Spencer about it, which is sort of what you're hoping for. While this is hardly the place for you to "come on" to Derek, you're willing to do it. Spencer needs a taste of his own medicine.
"Odd, that the unsub removes the hands but repositions the watch around the victims ankle." Derek muses, his hand coming up to scratch at the stubble on his chin. Luckily the officers sent to patrol the crime scene are nowhere nearby. You circle Derek, trying to formulate the perfect sentence in your mind. It can't be too much, but definitely enough for him to inform Spencer. Derek is used to more lewd phrases coming from yours and Penelope's mouth, so surprising him enough to tattle to your boyfriend will be a challenge.
It can't be anything that would hurt Spencer however.
Derek views Spencer as his little brother and would never hurt him, and you wouldn't want to hurt Spencer either this is all in good filthy fun. It has to be a little risky, but not so risky that Derek would prefer keeping it from Spencer to protect him. If its too much Derek will approach you directly about it which would be humiliating and would entirely miss the point. This is a very delicate operation.
"Oh Derek, have you been working out?" You decide to take the easy route, adding a dash of sultry to your tone.
"Occasionally." Derek doesn't turn his head towards you, you haven't quite captured his attention yet.
"Firm is a good look on you." You tease, you'll need to ease him into it because he's going to have the wind knocked out of him when you finally lay it on him.
"Easy girly, you're venturing into dangerous territory." You hear the lilt to his tone letting you know that he's joking. You need to push it further.
"No I'm serious," you need to tread very carefully. You don't want to ruin a friendship you still want to keep, "it's a really good look on you."
Derek turns to you then, an eyebrow raised as he watches you trail your eyes down his body. While Derek isn't a bad looking guy, he doesn't even come close to comparing to your beautiful boy. Spencer is easily the cutest and sexiest man you've ever had the privilege of standing in the same room with.
"What's with you?" He asks, keeping the smile on his face so he doesn't alert you that he's concerned. You're on the right track but if you leave it here Derek will let it go. You need to drop that mini bomb on him, just a little more. You trail a finger down his shoulder, towards his bicep.
"Nothing, just admiring the view. The big, strong, sexy, view. What I wouldn't give to have you in bed Derek Morgan." There's the bomb. Your words have an immediate effect over him. The half-lidded sultry look in your eyes is enough for him to raise his eyebrows in surprise. Usually he can tell if you're joking but now he really can't tell. He's speechless, which doesn't happen to Derek Morgan very often.
"Y/N..."
"Call me if you wanna take me up on my offer." You send a wink at him before turning to head towards the black SUV. That should be enough for him to tattle.
//
When you return to the precinct, you watch with pleased eyes as Derek immediately pulls Spencer into a side room. Derek briefly glances at you, and you send him a smile but do not receive on in return. You don't think anything of it, Derek will get over it eventually with an explanation. You watch carefully as Derek begins to speak and an unreadable expression crosses onto Spencer's face, you expect he's just absorbing what Derek is telling him. Any minute now that look will cross onto his face, those dark eyes that warn you that you've officially annoyed him.
Derek keeps speaking, you can see his lips moving. What are they talking about? It shouldn't be taking this long. You're too far away to really make out their faces, so you subtly sneak closer when Spencer's eyes flash to meet yours and you gasp. There is no anger on his face, no playful annoyance, instead you see pain. Hurt. Betrayal. Derek tries to reach out to grab Spencer but the door to that side room opens and Spencer comes rushing out of it. Not bothering a side glance at you as he makes his hasty exit.
"I was only kidding." You explain quickly as Derek emerges. He doesn't look amused.
"It was too far Y/N. He's crushed." Derek snaps, brushing past you. Immediately you turn and exit the precinct, quickly finding Spencer tucked away in a secluded corner. He's sitting against the building, his head tucked into his knees and the absolute worst part is the fact that he's softly crying. You kneel in front of him in an instant, although you're not sure what to even say.
"Oh baby boy, I was only kidding. I didn't mean it, I said it because you flirted with that blonde witness!" You explain in a hurry, trying to reach out to take him in your arms. Spencer resists, instead lifting his head to look at you. His eyes are glossy and red rimmed, "kidding?"
"Yes precious, I was kidding."
"But Derek is more...attractive then I am." Spencer whimpers softly. You reach forward to firmly grasp Spencer's chin, ensuring he looks at you.
"Spencer Walter Reid you look at me," You order, and hesitantly Spencer lifts his watery eyes to meet yours. "There is not a single person who is more attractive then you are, you are flawless."
"But deep down you want Derek-"
"I was kidding Spencer. I only want you, my good boy." You purr, and you see a shiver run down his spine. You lean forward to press your lips to his before your thumbs come up to swipe away your tears.
"I'm not a good boy, I don't deserve it." Spencer whimpers once you help him stand up. Even though you're looking up at him, it's still very clear that you're the one in charge. "I flirted with Allison."
"You're right, you haven't been very good have you? I'm sure you'll make it up to me in the hotel room." You smile pressing a kiss to his flushed cheek. He nods immediately, it warms your heart.
"I love you." Spencer whispers after he catches your hand as you're about to open the door. You press a kiss to his palm, "I love you precious."
//
You could feel the nerves rolling off of him when you opened the door to your shared hotel room. The door shut with a soft click as you kicked off your shoes. Spencer remained at the hotel room door curled in on himself and wringing his hands together. You have to hide the smile as you shed your jacket from your shoulders, beginning to reach for your jeans when you pause. You take a seat on the bed, watching Spencer eye you carefully from his spot by the door.
"Come here." There isn't a question in your tone, it's more of an order. An order Spencer hastily obeys as he scrambles to stand before you.
"Undress me." You instruct, and Spencer kneels immediately to grab at the hem of your shirt. He carefully lifts the fabric off your body and tosses it aside before reaching around your body to unclip your bra. "No touching baby boy, you were naughty remember?" You snapped, and you saw him turn his head down in shame before turning his attention towards your pants. He unbuttons your jeans and helps pull them down your legs. Spencer's breath gets caught in his throat when his eyes land on your clothed pussy.
"Like what you see precious? Maybe if you were a good boy and didn't let that woman run her hands all over you, maybe I'd let you touch." You purr watching the disdain in his eyes when he realizes what his punishment is going to be.
"Tell me the truth baby boy, did you let her touch you in the car?"
He nods, but that's not good enough for you. You reach down to roughly palm him through his slacks.
"I said did you let her touch you?" You punctuate every word with a gentle squeeze around his cock. Finally, Spencer seems to find his voice.
"Y-Yes!"
"Where? Show me where she marked what's mine." You hiss, not even attempting to disguise your frustration. Spencer lifts one hand to his chest and trails it down his stomach, dangerously close to the hem of his pants before thankfully he stops.
"You let her touch you, this close to your cock?" You snap, tearing your hand away from him.
"I-I'm sorry!" He stammers, his eyes wide and his hands resting on the tops of his thighs. Boy does he look pretty on his knees before you. Not pretty enough for mercy however. There's a pleading look in his eyes, and a desperation. A desperation to please you.
"Make it up to me." You snap and as soon as the words leave your lips, Spencer's fingers are curling around the waistband of your underwear and tearing them off your body.
"Y-Yes ma'am." You lean back on your elbows as Spencer lowers his head between your legs, his eyes flickering to yours briefly. With a nod of your head, Spencer is delving between your legs with the enthusiasm of sex deprived teenager. Your head tosses back immediately as you feel his tongue licking thick stripes over your entrance. He continues to lap at you, his tongue teasing your entrance before he returns to his heavy licking. You moan softly, your fingers digging into his curls and pulling his head closer.
"Just like that, you're being such a good boy." You praise through breathy moans, and Spencer can feel his chest swell with pride. He loves being your good boy. But he isn't your baby boy all the time, sometimes, with a bit of coaxing, he becomes daddy. Spencer reaches up to prod a finger at your entrance before he's sinking in knuckle deep, his mouth curling around your clit. Spencer pumps on finger, to stretch you a little before slowly working a second finger into your suffocatingly tight heat.
"Yes Spencer, don't stop." You beg, feeling yourself climbing closer to reaching the peak, especially when his tongue flicks expertly against your clit while his fingers pump steadily into you. "Oh God, my good boy-" You praise again, and this time Spencer moans against you. Your toes curl as the vibrations send a course of pleasure through you, you've got to make him do that again.
"Do you like being my good boy Spencer? My good, obedient boy. So eager to please me, to make me feel good. And you do, you make me feel so good because you're such a good, good, boy." Your heavy praise causes Spencer to release a low groan, and the feeling is enough to launch you over the edge. Spencer keeps pumping is fingers into you, his tongue swirling soft circles over your clit to help you through your orgasm. Once your body has stopped jerking, you finally pull him off you.
"I forgive you precious, but unfortunately I still have to punish you." You inform him as you pull him back up to his feet. You hear him whine as you push his chest to lay him back against the bed.
"Do you have to?"
"Are you talking back to me baby boy?"
"N-No!" He squeaks instantly, his cheeks painted red. You stand over him, laying beneath you and you can't fight the soft moan that escapes your lips upon seeing him. His hair is disheveled from you raking your fingers through his, his brown eyes are wide and innocent as he looks up at you, and his cheeks are dusted such a beautiful shade of pink.
"Take off your clothes precious, I want to see all of you." You instruct, and you love the shy look on his face as he reaches up to remove his shirt. You let your eyes shamelessly roam his body as he slowly exposes more skin to you. Despite having been together for a few years now, Spencer is still incredibly insecure. Deep down he's worried you'll grow tired of him. Worried that you'll seek out other men despite being with him. Spencer is worried he's not enough to keep you interested. Which is wildly untrue, it's already been over 3 years and if anything you become more interested as time goes on.
"So beautiful baby boy, your body is a work of art." You breathe under your breath. Spencer blushes even deeper then he was before as he nervously fidgets underneath. You swing your legs on either side of his waist, your palms on the bed next to his head. "Your punishment, precious boy," your hands drift to his that are resting on your hips, "is that you can't touch me." You finish, moving his hands to the bed.
Spencer's eyes widen as his head drops back. A whine escapes his lips, but like a good boy, he grasps tightly at the sheets. You reach between your bodies to grasp his cock, pressing the head against your entrance before you teasingly lower onto him. Spencer's eyes squeeze shut at the feeling of your velvety walls around him- it's almost too much for the poor boy. It doesn't help that it's been a few weeks since you two last had sex, meaning you're tighter then you normally are. In fact you're so tight that Spencer can't even breathe properly while he's stretching you open.
"Oh baby boy, you feel absolutely wonderful. Your cock stretches me open so good." You purr, your hands landing on his chest for leverage so you can bounce on him faster. Spencer whimpers softly, the feeling is overwhelming, you can tell he's struggling to contain himself. Your hair drifts down your back when you throw your head back, his cock hitting places deep inside you.
"Getting close," You moan and Spencer knows that's his cue to reach down and begin rubbing circles over your clit. As soon as his thumb makes contact you're moaning loudly, your free hand digging into his hair to hold onto tightly. "Yes Spencer, yes." The phrase becomes a chant you repeat in your head over and over again. Spencer continues to rub you, desperate to help you find your release. When you slam down on him again, his cock hits the place deep inside you that makes your toes curl. You cum instantaneously, your body nearly falling top of Spencer's from the sheer force of it. Spencer's arms come up to steady you, offering shallow thrusts into you to chase his own release.
"Y/N...c-can I?" His voice is wrought, and you smile weakly.
"Yes precious, you can cum." As soon as you give him permission, he's cumming in hot gushes into you, his face buried in your neck. You run your hand down his back as his heart rate slows back to normal, and Spencer's arms stay curled around your waist.
"Spence?"
"Hm?" You can hear the lazy drawl in his voice that lets you know he's getting very sleepy.
"Don't ever break my rules again, or your punishment will be much worse."
"Yes ma'am." You press a kiss to his lips before pulling off him, and curling yourself into his side.

it's a matter of seeing
a derek morgan x penelope garcia fic
a/n: hello again beloveds !!! today i present to you Another derek and penelope are kissing for the first time fic. what can i say, it's simply the best. thank you as always to the spectacular @blkantigone for being my supportive and helpful first reader and editor, love youuu! thank all of you for reading (im getting faster between uploads, have you noticed?)
title is from emily l. by marguerite duras. full line is "I don't know if love's a feeling. Sometimes I think it's a matter of seeing. Seeing you."
rating/warnings: gen audiences :) two vague allusions to sex but nothing even close to explicit, its more just in the way it exists in the background and derek is injured but it's superbly minor
read it here on ao3!
Derek steps closer to Penelope. “You had to see me. With your own eyes.”
Penelope rolls her eyes. “Yes, silly goose, that’s the usual way of seeing.”
-
Derek gets hurt on a case, and Penelope worries. He's fine, but she still worries.
word count: 2028
Derek glances at the time on his phone. Almost midnight, though it could be closer to 4 a.m. for how tired the team is tonight. A long case in Colorado kept them away from home for almost two weeks, and all Derek wants is to pet his dog and sleep in his own bed.
“Could this elevator ride be any slower?” Emily groans from where she’s leaning on the wall behind him.
“You know, Prentiss, I could have just gotten a late night taxi or grabbed one of the last trains.” Spencer is rocking back and forth on his heels next to her, a yawn growing on his lips.
“Nuh uh, kid, I’m getting you home whether you like it or not. I just wish you didn’t need that notebook from your desk tonight.”
“Sorry,” Spencer says, cringing slightly. Derek looks back to see Emily nudge his shoulder with a fond grin. Spencer’s shoulders relax.
“Why are you coming up, Hotch?” Derek asks the man in the opposite corner from Emily.
“Files.” Hotch stays facing the elevator door, only glancing at Derek.
“No way are you planning on staying here and working tonight– Hotch. We’ve been gone for two weeks–” (“Almost two weeks,” says Spencer. Derek waves him off.) “– you should be going home.”
“I’m just grabbing a few things. I’ll get back on this elevator with you.” Hotch glances at the time on his own phone then, unlocking it to open a text message from Jess. Derek sees a picture of smiling Jack for a split second before he looks away. “Jess is already expecting me.”
Derek hums in acknowledgement. He rolls his shoulder as the doors open and they walk towards the bullpen together.
“Shoulder still hurting, Morgan?” Emily asks. The day before they came home, one of the unsubs got the jump on Derek, tackling him to the ground. Emily easily subdued him, but Derek landed funny on a wayward pipe. His shoulder has been bothering him ever since. He nods in response.
“I’ll be fine.” Emily scoffs at him, but says nothing. He will. Eventually.
Spencer holds open the door for Derek. “Here, Morgan. So you don’t aggravate your injury.”
“Hilarious. Ha ha. When’s the stand-up tour? Have you been moonlighting at comedy clubs, pretty boy?”
Spencer sticks his tongue out at him. He quickly pulls it back in his mouth when he catches Hotch looking at him. To their surprise, Hotch cracks a small smile. “Reid has a point, Morgan.” Emily lets out a laugh that is more a cackle than anything.
“Evil. You’re all evil.” He walks through the held open door anyway.
Most of the desk lamps are off, the bullpen empty this late. But his chair is spinning slightly and his light is on. A mop of blonde hair, today a mess of curls with a large sparkly flower pinned at the top, bounces as the chair spins.
“Baby girl, what are you doing here?” Penelope spins to face him, a brilliant smile flashing onto her face immediately. “It’s late. You could have gone home hours ago.”
“Where’s JJ and Rossi?”
“Already in their cars on the way home. We all needed something from up here first.” She’s standing now, and he steps in front of her. “Don’t avoid my question, Mama,” he says, lightly tapping the tip of her nose.
Her smile falters, worry breaking through. “You got hurt.” Her eyebrows crease as she looks him over.
Derek raises both eyebrows. “Yea, but I’m okay. A little injury.”
The crease does not go away. “You got hurt. I don’t like when you get hurt.” He uses his non injured arm to pull her in for a hug. She wraps him in her arms immediately, her face pressing against his chest. The usual private shiver dances down his spine at the feeling. He rubs a small circle on the middle on her back as the tension bleeds out of her.
“See, baby girl? I’m fine.” Penelope picks up her head and looks at him. “Heart’s still beating. Blood’s still pumping. It’s just a little booboo.” She laughs at his word choice. “I’m okay. Promise.”
“You’re gonna rest at home? Ice it, or heating pad it up, or whatever you need?” He nods. “And you’ll call me if you need my help?”
“I promise.” She pops on her tiptoes to kiss his cheek. “You’re cute when you’re worried.”
Penelope tilts her head back and laughs. “I’m always cute, Derek Morgan. Don’t you forget it.” She never looks more beautiful than when she laughs.
“I won’t,” he says, moving his arm to her waist and walking them both to his desk. Spencer is closing his bag at his desk while Emily leans back in his chair, eyes closed.
“Okay, I’m ready,” says Spencer, nudging the chair with his foot. Emily blinks her eyes open, sitting up. “And I can drive, Emily, you’re more tired than I am.” She opens her mouth to argue, but a yawn comes out instead. She hands Spencer the keys without a word.
“Why are you here, Garcia?” Emily asks.
“Had to see my sweet love in person as soon as you got home.” Derek’s heart flips in his chest. “I worry,” she says simply. Emily nods, giving Derek a long look.
Hotch appears at the top of the stairs next to his office. “I’m leaving.” The unsaid addition of that means you are too rings out from the eyebrow heavy look he gives them all.
Derek grabs the file he needs and a novel his sister sent him from his desk drawer quickly. “Come on baby girl, I’ll walk you out.”
“My very own Prince Charming,” she says as she loops her arm through his.
Spencer starts telling Emily about a Russian film festival coming up in a few weeks as they lead the way to the door. Hotch is close behind, silent but listening. Penelope pulls on Derek a little and they follow.
She puts her head on his shoulder. On reflex, he kisses the top of her head. Not for the first time, he thinks about how easy it is for her to slot into place in his life. She just fits, no matter where he is or what he’s doing. There she is, a voice on the phone or the person spinning in his desk chair in the middle of the night solely because she needs to see him in person.
He falters as they walk through the glass doors. Penelope only makes it a few steps before she’s looking back at where he’s frozen, mind whirring. Emily is pressing the button to the elevator ahead of them. “Der?” Penelope asks.
“Why are you here?”
She tilts her head. “I told you. I worry.”
“You could have called Penelope. You did call, we talked on the plane.”
Now she blushes. She never blushes. “I had– I had to see for myself. I didn’t want to wait until Monday.”
A realization washes over Derek. “You had to see,” he repeats, a smile growing on his face.
She sways a little on her feet. “Yes, I said that.” The trio at the elevator notices them lingering by the doors, but Hotch stops Spencer from calling out with a knuckle brush to the forearm.
Derek steps closer to Penelope. “You had to see me. With your own eyes.”
Penelope rolls her eyes. “Yes, silly goose, that’s the usual way of seeing.” Derek takes another step, now only an arm’s length away.
“It’s midnight on a Saturday. And you waited for me here, alone.”
She nods.
“Even though we talked today and you know that I’m okay, that I’ve had worse injuries.”
She nods again.
“Penelope,” he says, voice barely a whisper. He steps impossibly closer. “Why are you here?”
A look of fear settles on Penelope’s face. “Derek–”
“No, it’s alright!” He grabs her hand. “I just need you to say it.”
She softens, something like hope lighting up her eyes. “If you need me to say it, then you already know.”
He releases a loud laugh– the kind of joyous sound that comes unbidden from the bottom of the stomach. Leaning forward, he rests their foreheads together, watching her reaction. When she smiles, he knows for sure. “Yea I do,” he says.
She leans in across the tiny distance between them and presses their lips together. Derek forgets about the lingering ache in his shoulder in favor of this new feeling. He swings an arm around her waist and straightens up, pulling her flush against him. She wraps her arms around his neck, a soft sound humming against his lips. He’s about to slip his tongue into her mouth and carry her off to an empty office when someone clears their throat from across the room.
Penelope pulls back first, automatically hiding her face in Derek’s neck. Emily is hiding a smile behind her hand. Hotch’s eyebrows are raised slightly, the ghost of a smile around his eyes. Spencer makes no attempt to hide his glee, fingers tapping together happily. Derek grins at them. “Can I help you three?”
“Just thought you’d want to carry on somewhere else. And the elevator is here.” Sure enough, Emily has a foot in the elevator door. She shows him her full grin this time. “Not that we weren’t having fun watching the show.”
He scoffs. “Next time, we’re charging a ticket price.” Penelope giggles.
“Next time?” she whispers.
He nods. “If you want.”
“Yes! Yes. I want. Very much so.” He smiles, a full eye crinkle 1000 watt smile, and interlocks their fingers to lead her to the elevator. She slots in right at his side, putting her head back on his shoulder.
They stay that way the whole way down and keep their hands together as they walk to the parking lot. Emily makes kissy faces as she and Spencer get into her car. Spencer waves happily. Hotch gives them a soft smile before he disappears around a corner.
Derek pulls her in for another kiss right next to Esther. Just because he can. “Follow me home?” he mutters against her lips. “We don’t have to… tonight. Next time. But I’ll make breakfast.”
She traces a spiral on his upper arm. “Okay. It’s a date.” He kisses the tip of her nose just to hear her giggle.
She gives him one more kiss before gently shoving him in the direction of his car. “The faster you get to your car, the faster we get home.” He blows her a kiss before jogging to where he parked two weeks ago. She catches it and puts it right over her heart.
The streets are almost empty as they drive, and Derek keeps pulling up next to her at stoplights to ask if she comes here often or if she wants to race. By the time they arrive at Derek’s apartment building, it’s almost one a.m. and they are both dead on their feet. Still, they stop to kiss in front of his elevator. They kiss again just inside of his front door and again when he hands her an old shirt to wear to bed. He has the urge to pinch his arm, just to double check that he’s not still asleep on the plane. But no, there she is, brushing her teeth in his bathroom with a spare toothbrush. He's never felt this kind of peace with someone else in his space. She has toothpaste on the corner of her mouth and her eyes are bloodshot from exhaustion. I love you, he thinks.
“What?” she asks. “You’re staring.”
Derek hums, wrapping an arm around her waist. "Do you blame me?" He grabs a tissue and blots away the toothpaste. It's a slight deflection, but it's not the moment for what he's really thinking. She scrunches her nose and smiles.
"No. You have good taste."
"Damn right I do, baby girl. The best taste."
They don’t kiss much when they lay in Derek’s bed, too tired to do much more than cuddle up together and turn off the lights. But Derek doesn’t mind. He’s already thinking about breakfast.

chapter 25
“What do you mean we’re working a missing dog case?” Hotch questioned his whole entire life at that moment as Mindy and Garcia explained the case they think they found.
“Sir, I promise you’re going to want to listen to this,” Garcia said softly, her green dress and pink hair pom-poms really reassuring him that everything was fine.
Y/N watched him roll his eyes and wish he was somewhere else, he had been getting more and more fed up with work lately. Having a hard time with Strauss, his wife, and the job in general. After Hayley almost died last year and being stabbed, he had the worst luck on the team.
“It’s going to take a minute for you to see what we see,” Mindy matched Garcia’s aura perfectly, dressed in a cat sweater.
“All 5 of these families have reported dogs missing in the Sacramento area. You think that’s not that weird, they’re probably stealing dogs for fights and step one in the serial killer handbook. But you’d be wrong,” Garcia explained, flipping from photos of missing dog posters to murdered families.
“The dogs go missing right, the parents put all their information onto a flyer, the flyer gets plastered into the neighbourhood where everyone sees it. The unsub takes the flyer, and the dog and returns it to the family just to get inside of the house. He learns what their safety protocols are like and then he decides to break in and murder,” Mindy laid it all out easily for them to follow.
“Is there any evidence that the killer is the dognapper?” Prentiss asked, chewing on the end of her pencil as she tried to wrap her head around it all.
“No,” Garcia pressed her lips together quickly. “But! Family number 5, they were murdered on Friday. Their crime scene is the newest, it’s where we’ll get the best idea of what’s going on.”
“Sir,” Mindy added. “If I’m correct about this, another family is going to die in 2 days. There’s been another small dog reported missing in Sacramento, the same type of family and everything. It’s a signature if I’ve ever seen one.”
“Send us everything you have, wheels up in 20,” Hotch sighed, taking his things and leaving the room.
“Is he okay?” Y/N asked Rossi.
Dave and he were the closest, Hotch never told his secrets of personal gossip to anyone else. He knew Rossi understood family problems the best. Having been married and divorced 3 times each.
“Don’t repeat this, Garcia that means you,” he teased her quickly. “He asked Hayley if she wanted more kids, after seeing you and JJ expanding the BAU’s gifted children program. She said she’d only have another baby if he took a few years off.”
“Oh,” Y/N wasn’t surprised. If Spencer wasn’t in the BAU he probably wouldn’t get it either. “He’s young, he can come back at any time, as you did.”
“Which is what I said to him. He just doesn’t know how he’d fill all the time yet, he doesn’t have an interest in fishing or cigars like moi,” Rossi explained. Standing up and straightening out his suit, “not to mention the writing chops to keep your brain fresh.”
“Come on grandpa, it’s time to board the plane you can brag later,” Derek patted him on the back. “Some of us like to stay active and have fun on our time off.”
“I’ll have you know I’m very fun,” Rossi argues as they leave the room. They were like a bunch of teenagers sometimes.
“Well, I’ll see you in a few days, just be in Vegas by Sunday at 2 pm,” Y/N frowned at Spencer. “Call me when you’re free?”
Spencer leaned in and kissed her softly. Rubbing his hand over her belly as he did so, saying goodbye to the little dude in there. “Be good, take care of each other.”
She smiled, wishing he didn’t have to go again. “We always do, come home to me safely boy wonder.”
In Penelope’s office, Mindy had basically moved in. It was big enough for the two of them and they worked together anyway. Sharing all the computer space, rolling around each other like crazy people as they switched jobs. That meant that Mindy’s office became Y/N’s office when she stayed back on a case.
Y/N would be 33 weeks pregnant as of Thursday, and officially Mrs. Dr. Reid by Sunday.
If everything went according to plan. This case seemed simple enough to get them home in time. If not, the flight from LA to Vegas wasn’t even that long. Y/N and Will had a plan if this was to happen, JJ and Spencer would head right to Vegas while Will and Henry flew in with Y/N. All she really needed was her wedding dress and hospital go-bag, and Spencer.
She wasn’t going to go into labour any time soon, Matty was still way too high and she was barely even having Braxton hicks contractions yet. If her body wasn’t practicing, surely it wouldn’t just start. She was a planner, she planned everything and this pregnancy didn’t seem to listen. All she wanted was for him to be born on or after June 10th, healthy and happy, that’s her only wish.
She hated cases like these, ones that made her sit behind a desk and just look at everything till it made sense. But it never did, not in her brain. Thinking like an unsub was the only time it made sense, but she never understood it. Kidnapping a dog just to kill a family was never going to be something one could just understand.
The only idea she had was to get someone inside the newest victims’ house and just wait for the unsub to return the dog. It would be the easiest way to bring him in for questioning. So she called Hotch.
“Hotchner,” he answered shortly.
“Hey, I was just wondering if you had a plan yet? If not, I’ve been thinking.”
“We’re trying to find a way to get eyes and ears inside the vics home,” Hotch explained, it sounded like he was driving and yelling over the speaker.
“I was thinking you could send in Reid or Morgan posing as a tutor or coach of some kind, then you can hide the equipment in the bag they bring in, it would be the least suspicious,” she ran her thoughts through to him.
“That would work, I’ll have the team see what we can do from our end,” Hotch ended the call abruptly. Still in the bad mood from when he left.
She couldn’t blame him, it’s a hard spot raising kids and having this job. Y/N and Spencer were still trying to figure out how they were going to pull it off. She couldn’t imagine what it was like for Haley, always being alone with Jack and half the time her life was in danger. The risk that came with the job almost didn’t feel worth it, especially when it meant losing your family on top of everything else.
They sent Derek in, with Penelope in his ear, as he set up the cameras and microphones. Setting up 24/7 patrol across the street in a model home. Meaning that Y/N’s job was basically over and all she had to do was kick her feet up and eat snacks until she could go home.
Spencer crawled into bed 2 days later around 4 in the morning, cuddling into her without even taking off his work clothes. She barely slept when Spencer wasn’t home, she opened her eyes when she noticed he was there, as if she hadn’t even slept yet.
He smelled like hotel soap and stale airplane air. “Hi,” he whispered as he tried to cuddle in close to her, being held back by her belly.
“Home just in time to have to fly out again,” she smiled at him softly.
“I know,” he sighed. “I doubt the bureau would like us if we used the jet to travel to a wedding. It’s bad enough we have one and no other unit does.”
“Are you excited or nervous?”
“Both.”
“Mmm,” she hummed along. “I’m nervous.”
“Why?”
“I still haven’t written my vows and,” she stopped herself, frowning a little as Spencer laid a hand on her face.
“What’s wrong?”
“It’s all happening so fast. I feel like I haven’t had a chance to enjoy any of it and I’m worried if this is how fast the lead-up is, then how fast will the night be over?”
“Oh bunny,” he cooed. “I’ll make sure we get a moment alone, how about we sneak off during the party and go to the swing and just spend time together? Really make the most of our day.”
“Okay,” she smiled again. “A part of me wishes it was just us.”
“How about this,” Spencer said as he sat up, turning on the bedside lamp before getting out of bed. He looked through his underwear drawer and pulled out the box the rings were in. “Marry me, right now?”
“What?” She laughed.
“Just me and you, marry me?”
“It won’t count this way?” She rebutted, sitting up as well as she squinted in the light. Trying to wake up more.
“you’re not religious and you hate the government even though you work for them,” he reminded her. “Having a sheet of paper and dedicating my life to you are two completely different things.”
“I told you I don’t have my vows ready!”
Spencer sat on the bed, sitting directly across from her as he placed the rings on the bed. Taking both her hands in his as he looked into her eyes. “Just make it up?”
“You’re insufferable,” she teased him.
“And you love me,” he teased right back.
“Fine, Spencer Reid, you big fuckin’ dork,” she couldn’t stop herself from laughing. “My whole life I’ve just wanted to love you. I don’t know how I managed to pull it off, but here I am."
She let out a long, shaky breath as she continued. "You complete me, I don’t feel right when you’re not around and I never want to lose you. Marrying you means more to me than just becoming your wife, I don’t care about the term or the tax benefits," she laughed as a tear fell down her cheek. he wiped it away quickly.
"I was perfectly content just being in your rotation. Being your partner for life is a blessing to me, I’m going to love you forever.” She picked up and ring and put it on his finger.
His eyes were glossy as he watched her shaking hand slip the ring over him. He loved her more than he even knew how to describe at the moment.
“Do you remember that one time you asked me to show you how a real man loves a woman?”
She laughed, looking down at her gigantic belly. “Kinda hard to forget when I’m carrying around this extra 30 pounds.”
“It reminded me of a quote I read on a swing one time,” he said softly, watching her eyes gleam as she knew where he was going.
“The unqualified truth is, that when I loved Y/N with the love of a man, I loved her simply because I found her irresistible. Once for all; I knew to my sorrow, often and often, if not always, that I loved her against reason, against promise, against peace, against hope, against happiness, against all discouragement that could be. Once for all; I love her nonetheless because I knew it, and it had no more influence in restraining me, than if I had devoutly believed her to be human perfection.”
“What’s that from?” Y/N couldn’t stop the tears from falling down her cheeks, she had never known what book he was reading. She always wondered what his thoughts were in that moment when their eyes locked in remembrance all those years ago.
“Great Expectations by Charles Dickens,” Spencer replied, starting to cry as well.
That’s when she remembered it, looking over at the book that had been sitting on his bedside table for months. It was the book he re-read the most, the book he was reading that first night in Wichita when she asked to crawl into his bed. The book he put down before they conceived Matthew. The whole time she was falling in love with him, the way she did as a child, he was reading the same book because it reminded him of her.
“I didn’t expect that book to hold such a place in my heart the first time I read it. I only brought it to the park with me that day because it was the closest book to me, and I was having a really hard day,” he stopped to wipe his tears softly. “Yet somehow, every single bad day in my life has been made better by you. You’re my greatest expectation, and the only one I’m trying the hardest to live up to.”
“I love you,” she replied to him softly. Holding his face in her hands now as she stared into his eyes, “you’re always going to be everything I’ve ever wanted and all I’ll ever need. You’ve met every expectation, and beyond.”
“I love you,” he smiled. He took her left hand off his cheek, sliding the silver band over her ring finger, pressing it snugly against her engagement ring. “forever.”
“And then some,” Y/N added before kissing him softly.
She smiled against his lips, sitting back and looking at him with complete wonder. “Dr. Y/L/N,” she teased him, pretending to tip her imaginary hat.
“Agent Reid,” he copied her causing them both to laugh again.
“So when is our real anniversary then?” Y/N asked softly, trying to remember what day of the month it was.
“It’s April 20th.”
“Our anniversary cannot be 4/20!” She panicked. “Oh. My god!”
Spencer laughed from down deep in his gut, laying down against the sheets as she smacked his arm lightly. “I’m serious, but that’s so funny though,” she laughed too.
She laid back against the sheets then, Spencer cuddled into her side. His face in the crook of her neck while laying a leg over hers. She held him as close as she could, Matthew really starting to get in the way of everything she did now.
She let out a deep breath as she settled with Spencer against her. “I love you so much, my husband.”
“I love you more, my wife,” he replied. The words sounding like heaven on his lips.
chapter 26
She let out a deep breath when the dress actually zipped up. She was so worried that in the last 2 weeks her body had completely changed. JJ finished with her zipper, fluffing her dress and making sure everything was in place.
Her mom was wiping her tears for the 4th time in the last hour, Y/N couldn’t stop laughing every time she heard her sniffle. It didn’t feel as life-changing as her mother made it seem, Spencer and Y/N were already married in her opinion, this was just a nice formality for their parents.
She could hear all the people talking in her parent’s yard, a few kids yelling as they ran around each other. People were already drinking, there was food and snacks all around. It was just a big party where they were going to tell everyone exactly how much they loved each other.
As much as she was ready mentally, her body was shot. The butterflies in her stomach wouldn’t leave, the baby was kicking from the anxiety in her body no matter how hard she tried to calm down. It was nerve-wracking to be so open in front of so many people.
It was even worse with the fact she hadn’t seen Spencer since yesterday. As much as he claimed he wasn’t superstitious, he really didn’t want to see her before the wedding. Claiming his mother was the worried one, Y/N let it slide no matter how much she hated sleeping in her childhood bed all by herself with a mini-gymnast in her stomach.
“Are you ready?” JJ asked her softly.
She nodded, looking in the mirror at herself one last time. “Can I have a minute?”
“Sure,” JJ smiled, taking Debbie with her as they walked out of her room.
She stood in the window, opening the blinds and looking out towards the swings once again. Spencer was sitting there, swinging while staring at her window.
She smiled, feeling the butterflies leave her system in a beautiful flurry as their eyes locked. She was ready, she had always been ready to marry him.
She walked out of the room and down the stairs, holding the railing carefully. She was just wearing a pair of crocs under her dress, not trusting her big clumsy ass with heels.
She waited in the foyer as Emily walked across the street to gather everyone. She was officiating for them, Spencer wanted her to be the one to marry them, she was the closest thing to a sister he had.
Every single important person in their lives was in the crowd. Even Spencers father was there, in the back, quiet. Diana was happy to see him, Spencer felt indifferent. Gideon came too, which made it a little easier.
They all walked across the street then, gathering at the end of the makeshift aisle they laid out in the park. Penelope played a simple wedding march, starting the ceremony officially.
Everyone stood, turning towards them. Chloe went down first, dropping flower petals in big clumps here and there before running towards her mom. Then it was Y/N’s turn, opting out of the whole bridesmaid’s thing for the sake of not having to pick and choose between her co-workers and sisters-in-law.
Her dad extended an arm for her, she took it as she softly smiled at him. He looked like he was trying not to cry, “ready?”
“Let’s go,” she whispered.
Seeing Spencer at the end of the aisle was like a dream. She began to walk towards him, every step closer made her heartbeat louder and louder in her chest. Before she knew it she was standing in front of him, her dad giving her a soft kiss on the cheek before handing her over to Spencer.
The idea of giving her away was weird. He wasn’t giving her to him, he was simply helping her reach him. And he always had been.
Spencer’s hand was soft in hers and they stepped towards Emily together.
The music stopped then, causing them to turn to each other and smile. It was time.
It felt more like time stopped, however, getting a sort of tunnel vision for each other as the rest of the world faded away.
“Welcome everyone, you can take a seat,” Emily cut into the moment. “A few weeks ago Spencer asked me if I’d marry him off to his best friend, I of course said yes because who can say no to that face?”
Everyone laughed as Spencer blushed. “Spencer is the smartest man to work in the FBI, we’re not afraid to admit that. From the day I met him, he was nothing but informative and kind, as well as shy and personal. It took a while to learn anything about him, but once you get to know him he’s like an open book. And it’s a good story.”
“Like most good fairy tales, it’s a story told in two parts. Starting with a meet-cute of cosmic proportions, a plotline that would make any other ’right for each other at the wrong time,’ story run for the hills,” Emily exaggerated.
“And finally, a reunion,” her voice was soft then. “I’ll never forget the day Spencer held the door open for Y/N, she walked in with a smile on her face that was almost as big as Spencers. He introduced us to a childhood friend that day, not realizing she would become part of our family.”
Y/N felt herself getting a little choked up, seeing Penelope and JJ wiping their tears just off to the side.
“It’s a story best told in the first person,” Emily laughed at her own joke. “So, without further ado, ladies first,” she instructed, stepping away from the altar to keep the focus on them.
“Well?” Y/N shook her head at him, motioning with her hand for him to start speaking. Making everyone laugh once again. Spencer’s smile was adorable as he giggled.
“Would you say— hypothetically, of course, that soulmates are real, Doctor Reid?” She questioned him softly.
He nodded, “I would.”
“Good,” she smiled. “Because I think you’re mine. And I think I’ve known that for a very long time. There was something about you, that first day I saw you. You weren’t shoving dirt up your nose or pulling on my hair. You were reading a book, I believe it was Matilda, you were all by yourself and you looked sad.”
“Me, being me,” she laughed to herself, “I marched over to you and I asked if you wanted to play in the sandbox with me. One small gesture changed the entire course of my life, you became a friend and then a stranger again in the blink of an eye. I know what it’s like to know of you and not be in your presence and it’s the worst.”
She didn’t want to cry, but she knew she was about to. “I know you’re my soulmate because my soul physically aches when you’re not around. Like magnets, I’m pulled towards you and I’m willing to crush anything that gets in the way. You and I were once the same cosmic rock just floating through space, separated for millions of years until the time was right.”
“I found you right when I needed you,” she wiped a tear off her cheek quickly. “When we needed each other. And I’m never going to let you go.”
She turned towards Emily, grabbing a ring from her. “With this ring, you’re tied to me for eternity now, the way things always should have been.”
“I love you,” Spencer whispered, wiping his own tears before holding her hands again.
“Your turn, pretty boy,” she teased him one last time, laughing to try and stop the tears.
“Most of you know the story,” Spencer began his speech. Staring into Y/N’s eyes, trying to forget there was an audience.
“We met in kindergarten, she was wearing a sundress with green and pink flowers, much like today. You had bangs back then and a cute pink bow in your hair. And you were as stubborn then as you are now,” he smiled. “Mrs. Richardson had told me twice that we weren’t allowed to put water in the sandbox, no matter how important it was to the construction of my model pyramids. That’s why I was reading my book. You went to your backpack, grabbed a water bottle, and poured it right into the sand without thinking twice about the consequences.
“I didn’t really see you again until I was 13, I sat on that swing with my copy of Great Expectations by Charles Dickens while you sat in your window way up there.” He pointed at her house, past the swing set. “I’ll never know what you were reading or what you were thinking, but I have the exact moment I saw you ingrained in my memory,” Spencer’s words were soft as his thumbs ran over her hands.
“Out of my thoughts! You are part of my existence, part of myself. You have been in every line I have ever read, since I first came here, the rough common boy whose poor heart you wounded even then. You have been in every prospect I have ever seen since – on the river, on the sails of the ships, on the marshes, in the clouds, in the light, in the darkness, in the wind, in the woods, in the sea, in the streets.” Spencer recited from memory.
“You have been the embodiment of every graceful fancy that my mind has ever become acquainted with. The stones of which the strongest London buildings are made, are not more real, or more impossible to displace with your hands, than your presence and influence have been to me, there and everywhere, and will be. Y/N, to the last hour of my life, you cannot choose but remain part of my character, part of the little good in me, part of the evil. But, in this separation I associate you only with the good, and I will faithfully hold you to that always, for you must have done me far more good than harm, let me feel now what sharp distress I may. O God bless you,” Spencer’s voice trailed off to a whisper as he reached the end.
“I read that quote moments before seeing you again, and part of me knew the universe had greater plans for us. And I knew, Love her, love her, love her! If she favours you, love her. If she wounds you, love her. If she tears your heart to pieces – and as it gets older and stronger, it will tear deeper – love her, love her, love her!”
“With this ring,” Spencer finally added. Lifting the last ring from Derek’s extended hand, placing it on Y/N’s ring finger where it belonged. “I vow to love you till my very last moments, and if heaven is real I’ll be waiting for your loving embrace.”
She wiped her tears quickly, looking up as she tried to stop her mascara from smudging. “You’re a dick sometimes,” she started to laugh before hearing the crowd do the same.
“You love me,” he teased her.
“I do,” she smiled, pulling him in and kissing him hard on the lips. Getting lost in his embrace as the world around them stopped.
Having every single person that she loved mingle around her parent’s backyard felt a little surreal. Her father and Rossi were smoking cigars together on the desk, Levi and Will were discussing training stories while Chloe and Henry chased each other around the yard.
Emily and Noelle were slowly dancing in their own little world to the music that played, not too far from Haley and Arron who had the same idea. Jack was talking to Derek, sharing stories about their favourite superhero.
Diana and Debbie were going around making sure everyone had a drink or a snack, discussing their children and showing off to everyone that was there. It was a lot to take in, but she wouldn’t change it for the world. This was the most perfect little wedding she could have ever asked for.
Spencer never left her side, holding her hand where ever she went for the majority of the night. Knowing she hated being the centre of anyone else attention, calming her down from all the eyes that were on her.
“Do you want to go to the swing?” He whispered in her ear when they were finally alone.
“Please,” she looked up at him with pleading eyes. Wanting to just be alone with him for a while.
She snuck out of the yard and across the street, Y/N sat down on the swing for the first time in years, her big belly thanking her for the relief. Spencer pushed her lightly on the swing, helping her swing in the late-night spring breeze in rural Nevada.
The light in her bedroom was still on, illuminating the empty room she called hers for the majority of her life. Still unable to process the fact that she did it, she married Spencer. She made a life in his orbit, she was happy and loved and making a family with the man of her dreams.
This was the best revenge she could have ever gotten on any childhood bully or predator in her life. Pure happiness, that no one could take from her. Knowing she did this on her own, meeting Spencer out of the blue and building a life of joy and peace was so unbelievably wonderful.
“Tell me what you’re thinking about,” Spencer asked softly as he continued to push her on the swing.
“I’m just amazed that I did it,” she said softly.
“Did what?”
“all this,” she waved her arm out in front of her. “I grew up, I made friends and a family and found the love of my life even after believing for so long that I never would.”
“the universe had better plans for you than you thought,” She could hear the smile on Spencer’s face as he spoke. “You’re so deserving of the world and then some, you’re worth the universe to me. Brighter than any star in the sky, more powerful than the big-bang.”
She dragged her feet along the sand, stopping the swing abruptly before turning around to see Spencer. His eyes glistened in the moonlight or the streetlight. Either way, his brown eyes were glowing as she looked up at him softly.
“Thank you,” she whispered.
“For what?”
She wrapped her arms around him as best as she could, pressing her cheek against his chest softly. “For showing me that love is real.”
“Being able to love you has been the best part of my life.”
She pulled him into another kiss, holding his face softly as she peppered kisses to his lips over and over. “You get me forever.”
“And then some.”
“Hypothetically,” she teased him lightly. “Anything is possible when the two of us get together.”
“I love you,” was all he could say before kissing her again.
They could hear the music travelling across the street for the yard, she wrapped her arms around him and swayed to the beat. Taking a moment completely alone with him to just appreciate him. To hold him close, hear his heartbeat through his suit jacket and just take it all in.
The rest of her life started at that moment, the birth of a new future. One with endless possibilities, endless happiness, and the most love in the whole world.
Soulmates, 500 years in the making.
Placing 500 more years of possibilities in the hands of Fate, who cradled them in her loving embrace. Making a future for them unlike any she’s made before.

2020
The birds chirping used to make her wake up with a smile, now it made her panic a little. She was so overly used to being woken up to a baby crying, a kid with a tummy ache, or the sound of fighting coming from the cribs in the twin’s room.
When it was quiet she worried, opening her eyes and looking around to see all 4 of her children cuddled up around her and Spencer. Completely asleep, and absolutely adorable.
Matthews’s face was beside hers on the pillow. His long hair falling over his face, just like his fathers used to all those years ago. She kissed her baby on the forehead, unable to fully understand that he was 10 now.
The twins were in the middle, Harper and Derek were attached at the hip all day long. Sleeping basically on top of each other, it was the only way they were peaceful. Since being squished together in the womb, they’ve become best friends and each other’s comfort person over the last 6 years.
Alice on the other hand was a daddy’s girl. Probably because she got the most time with him, 2 and a half years’ worth of all Spencer’s love and affection.
Spencer had quit the BAU when they got pregnant with their last baby, deciding he wanted to be with his kids full time. He wanted to be more present, to make more memories and just be a good dad.
Every morning Alice would find her way into the bed, she’d do whatever it took to get between Y/N and Spencer, cuddling into her father’s arms and going back to sleep. Almost every time, she would push her mom’s arms away, waking Y/N up in the process just to smirk at her as if to say; “haha my turn.”
She loved her little family. And they loved her too, she had been out of town for a week on a really bad case that required all hands on deck. They called her every day, begging her to come home soon, breaking her heart. So it wasn’t a surprise to see all of them snuggled in, taking in all the time with her that they could.
Matthews’s eyes fluttered as he woke up, his big beautiful brown eyes looking at her softly. “Mom,” he said softly with a smile before wrapping his arms around her neck and snuggling into her. “I missed you.”
“I missed you, Mr. Magoo,” she whispered into his hair, holding him close. He still smelled like her little baby, only bigger as he rested against her.
“Are we still going to Uncle Dave’s tonight?” He asked as he settled against her, wanting her to run her fingers through his hair. It calmed him as it did for Spencer, soothing his mind as it ran a million miles a minute.
“I think so,” she replied, picking him up softly and laying on her back more. “I think all your cousins are going to be there too.”
“Even Jack?” He asked, sitting up with wonder in his eyes. Jack was 15 now, and just the coolest dude in Matthews’s life. Much like how Spencer looked up to Hotch in the beginning.
“Even Jack!” She whispered with enthusiasm, trying to keep the others asleep but it was too late.
“Mommy!” Harper cried, pushing Derek away from her as she leaped into her mother’s arms.
“Hi sweetheart,” she couldn’t stop herself from laughing as she got smothered in hugs from the twins.
Spencer looked over at her then. Alice was snuggled into his neck, one hand on his shoulder, the other in his hair. She had always played with his hair every chance she could get. Especially whenever he held her or gave her a ride on his shoulders as they walked through the park.
“Hi,” Spencer smiled.
There he was, the love of her life. His smile made her feel at home, the love between them only growing every morning when they laid eyes on each other.
“Are you going to say hi to mommy?” Spencer asked Alice, rubbing her back softly.
She raised her hand to wave softly before dropping it back onto Spencer’s head with a smack, “ow?” He laughed lightly, making her bounce on his chest and laugh in response.
She was always quiet in the morning, leaving all the talking to her siblings. She was the calmest of them all, she was also the easiest of the 4 of them. She didn’t cry unless she was desperate for food or attention, she slept through the nights and was just all around not fussy at all. A literal blessing to their lives.
The twins were a lot, they knew they would be. She doesn’t miss the days and nights of them taking turns screaming. And she definitely doesn’t miss the ache of her body as two babies sucked her dry for almost 6 months. Breastfeeding kicked her ass the most, eventually making her lose too much weight and faint from low blood pressure, it sucked.
The outcome was beyond worth it. Derek and Harper were the craziest, funniest, loudest 6-year-olds in the whole world. If they weren’t writing a show, pretending to direct a spooky movie or pulling pranks on their father, they were planning to.
They had a specific dynamic, Harper was the planner and Derek was the do-er. Harper would come up with the sneakiest, worst ideas a child could have and somehow always managed to convince Derek to do it for her. A modern-day Jekyll and Hyde terrorized her home.
But Matthew, He was the sweetest. Being a single child till the age of 4 meant he was around Spencer and Y/N all the time, just the three of them. He’s shy but outgoing, he speaks his mind and he isn’t afraid to share his thoughts and feelings. He’s the best part of both of them but with all the confidence to follow his dreams. He was handsome and smart, he was sweet and kind, he was her baby. Forever and always, no matter how big he got.
He’s smart like Spencer, but not jumping through elementary school as fast. They agreed to let him decide when he turned 14. He deserved the chance to grow up with his own age group, to make friends and memories that were good and happy, to build the confidence to stand up for himself and others before he finished school. He didn’t mind it, he enjoyed helping other students when he finished his work early and asking for extra credit assignments.
And he liked being in class with Roz LaMontagne. They were smitten with each other from day one, always holding hands and playing nicely. JJ and Y/N always felt bad peeling them apart from each other at the end of a playdate, they were best friends.
It was like Roz had 2 older brothers with Henry and Matt, the 3 of them being so close in age they were often mistaken for triplets, with JJ and Y/N being their lesbian moms. It was a ruse that came in handy when they saw men checking them out, or when they wanted a family discount at the zoo.
Her life felt perfect, it was far from it in reality but she was happy with that. She worked long hours, her kids missed her every day, she didn’t see Spencer as often as she’d like and she was always tired. But that was what it took, she would work herself to the bone in an instant if it meant that she could come home and be snuggled like this every time.
“How was your week?” She asked Harper, brushing her strawberry blond hair behind her ear as she cuddled into her other side. Now having 3 children laying on top of her.
“Dad took us to the air and space museum,” Derek answered for her.
“No way!” Y/N enthused. “You need to tell me everything you learned!”
“The Museum is the largest of the Smithsonian's 19 museums and its Center for Earth and Planetary studies is one of the Institution's nine research centres. More than eight million people a year visit the Museum's two locations, making it one of the most visited museums in the country,” Matthew explained, remembering the sign at the entrance from memory.
“Wow, what was everyone’s favourite part? Maybe we can go again soon and you can all show me?” She suggested, riling them all up till they were bouncing on the mattress and screaming suggestions back and forth.
“Okay, okay,” Y/N settled them down. Watching them all sit-down and smile as they tried to stop laugh and listen. “Why don’t we go get breakfast and spend the morning together before we get ready to go to Aunt Penny’s party tonight okay?”
“I thought it was Uncle Dave's party?” Derek asked.
“It’s at his house but you know how aunt penny plans,” Y/N smiled at him. “How about you all go get dressed and pick something nice to wear while I talk to your dad for a bit?”
“Anything I want to wear?” Harper questioned her, very serious.
Y/N laughed, shaking her head, “something nice, but yes your choice.”
“Yes!” Harper screamed, hopping off the bed making the whole room shake as she ran down the hall. The sound of her bare feet slapping the hardwood carrying through the hallway in an echo.
“Matty, I’ll dress Alice, can you just watch her for a minute?” Spencer asked as he placed Alice in the middle of the bed.
“Sure,” Matthew smiled. “Come on Ali, I’ll read you a book?”
She put her arms out for her brother to carry her, and soon enough it was just Spencer and Y/N all alone again. Spencer and her both falling back against the pillows and sighing in the quiet.
Spencer pulled her into a hug, wrapping himself around her as he kissed her cheek, “I missed you so much, I hate when you’re gone.”
“That’s why I wanted to talk to you,” she said softly. “I got a job offer last night, and I think I’m going to take it.”
“What is it?”
“VICAP and the BAU are merging, even more, I’ve been asked to be the Chief of VICAP to personally overview the program and pass the information along to Prentiss,” She explained. “It would be a 9-5 thing, 5 days a week. I’d be home for dinner and all weekend long. We could have another baby or go on vacation? You know the possibilities are endless.”
Spencer kissed her again, “you’d be able to help people and be home all the time.”
“Exactly,” she smiled into his embrace. “I told them I’d let them know later today, they want me to start next month.”
“Follow your gut,” Spencer whispered, happy at the decision she was making either way.
“My gut is currently saying ‘feeeeed meeee’, so let’s get going!” She cheered as she tried to escape from his embrace.
He just held on tighter, tickling her stomach and kissing her neck, “help!” She cried, joking obviously and the kids knew that. Sure enough, 4 pairs of feet came running back into their room, dog piling them.
“I said help! Not suffocate me?!” She teased them as Spencer let her go, each taking a child and tickling them instead. Everyone was screaming again, giggling from deep in their stomach, feeling sick from how happy they were.
She loved every moment of it.
After 10 years, the BAU had gone through a lot of changes. Everyone seemed to come and go at least once, some leaving for good when their families started. But there were a lot of new faces now, once someone was on the team they were family.
It was a rare occasion for everyone to get together, especially now that almost everyone had kids. Spencer and Y/N went from being the 2nd set of parents to aunty and uncle to 8 kids in 10 years.
That meant that there were currently 12 screaming kids terrorizing Rossi’s beautiful backyard as the adults sat around the fire. “Please tell me no one here has a baby announcement to make, I don’t think I can handle a thirteenth,” Rossi complained, grey hair making him look more like papa Rossi than uncle Dave now.
“No,” everyone said in unison, laughing at the abundantly clear meaning. They were all too tired to do it all again.
“Like Spencer’s mom said, why have another when you can stop at perfection?” Emily joked as she leaned into Noelle’s embrace. “PJ is the best little guy in the world.”
“Spencer makes some great kids,” Y/N laughed. Remembering that time Emily nervously asked them if Spencer would be the donor for her child. Wanting her kid to be born with the best DNA she could think of.
“That he does,” Noelle smiled, looking into the yard to see PJ, Michael and Hank roughhousing like they always were.
They all had kids fairly close together, always making sure each new member of the BAU's gifted children program had friends who were more like family in their lives. Their small chosen family expanded not only in size but with the amount of love they shared for each other.
Henry was 12 now, Jack 15. They had always gotten along well together, being a little more on the nerdy side. They welcomed Matthew into their little group with open arms, as well as Roz.
Hotch ended up becoming Section Chief, taking a desk job so that he could spend more time with his family. They welcomed Jessie 6 years ago, right around the time Y/N had the twins. She was a spitting image of Haley with all the stern seriousness of Hotch. Seeing her and Harper try and work together was always funny. Harper and Derek were always trying to start shit somewhere, while Jessie ran to Y/N to tattle on them. It was the funniest dynamic out of all the age groups, and it was only going to get worse as they grew up.
“I don’t know,” Y/N sighed, looking at her kids as they all smiled and laughed. The joy they brought her was unimaginable, “I think 5 would be interesting.”
“You’re a psycho, and I should know, I’m an expert,” JJ just shook her head, blinking at the craziness. “I can barely handle 3.”
“Alice was so easy though,” she whined. “All of them were good, I miss having a baby who wanted to cuddle with me. It’s not fair Spencer gets all the attention now.”
“You could always quit, they’d love that,” he teased her softly, not wanting to wake Alice as she slept on him, tired from playing with everyone during the afternoon.
“My new position is going to be better for us,” she smirked.
“What position?” Penelope yelled at her.
“I’m going to be the VICAP unit chief,” she smiled, watching them all light up as they congratulated her. Starling the sleeping Alice on Spencer’s chest.
“I think I’ve done enough fieldwork, I’d like to cook more dinners and read more bedtime stories now,” she smiled. “I never thought I’d say that.”
“I don’t think any of us did,” Haley added. “I never expected Aaron to slow down, but when he did I think it was the best thing he chose to do. Jack and Jessie love having him around all the time.”
“To 10 plus years on the job, 10 years of friendship and the 12 new lives we brought into this world,” Y/N said as she lifted her can of ginger-ale, everyone following with their own drinks.
“To family,” Prentiss added.
“To family,” they all repeated.
Taking a sip before smiling at each other, everything ended up okay. It was more than they ever expected, and everything they hoped for.
The kids all fell asleep on the ride home. Spencer and Y/N each taking one of the twins upstairs first, placing them in their beds softly before returning to the garage for the others. Finding Matthew trying to carefully bring Alice inside to help his parents.
“Hey Matty it’s okay,” Spencer whispered, placing a hand on his back. “you go inside with your mom and I’ll take care of this.”
“Okay,” he replied, extremely tired as his eyelids drooped.
Y/N wrapped her arm around his shoulders, he was almost as tall as her already and she wasn’t ready for that. “Come on my baby,” she whispered as she led him into the house and up the stairs.
She helped him change into a pair of pyjamas before helping him into his bed, covering him in his adorable planet-covered sheets. She tucked him in nice a snug before sitting on the edge, looking down at him as he closed his eyes and settled in.
She brushed his brown curls off his face, making way for the kiss she was about to leave on his forehead. “Goodnight my Matty Magoo, I love you to the moon and back.”
“I love you to the edge of the milky way,” he replied with a small smile. “I’m excited for you to be home more. Dad worries about you and it makes him sad, I like seeing you both happy together.” He rambled all his thoughts out at night just like Spencer did.
She kissed his head softly, holding his cheeks in her hand as she looked into his beautiful brown eyes. “You are so sweet, have a good sleep and I will see you tomorrow. I love you.” She told him again, and she’d tell him a million more times if she could.
“I love you, too, mom,” he smiled one last time before closing his eyes.
She shut off his lamp, closing his door on the way out.
She stood in the hallway then, a hand on her heart as she thought about just how much she loved him. JJ wasn’t kidding when she said you grow a love so big you’d kill for them.
Back in the twin’s room, she made sure they were comfortable for the night, taking Harper out of the crazy dress and pants she picked out for the day. Tucking both of them into their little beds, kissing their heads before turning on their nightlight. They didn’t like the dark, and they liked to keep their door open a little so buddy could sneak in.
In her own room, she found Spencer in bed, shirtless with a book. He got sexier as he got older, it was impossible and yet it happened. Every year he looked different, in a wonderful way.
His hair was fluffy, his tummy was fuller— a dad bod as Penelope would call it. He wore glasses all the time now, having a hard time reading without them. It made him incredibly hot.
She changed into a cute pyjama set, satin shorts and a spaghetti strap top, wanting to get his attention away from whatever book he found this time.
She could feel his eyes on her as she changed, not wanting to look at him and make him stop.
He put his book down when she got in beside him, still on the right side after all these years. “What?” She asked him as he kept staring at her.
“Were you serious?”
“Yes I do think you’re sexy, I didn’t think you could read minds too?” She teased him.
“Funny,” he smiled at her. “Do you want another baby?”
She shrugged, “we could Russian roulette this and just see if it happens?”
“Seriously?” His voice dropped, softer than normal. “Because I would have 16 more kids with you if you wanted. They’re all so amazing, every time.”
“I know,” she felt her heart melt. “Matthew said you get sad when I’m not here, he worries for you.”
“All week, Harper wore her regular outfits because she likes making you laugh with her silly ones,” Spencer told her. They liked to share secrets about their kids at night. Basically profiling them.
“I love them,” her heart felt like it was going to burst.
“Come here,” Spencer requested, waiting for her to sit on his hips and look down into his eyes like she always did. She brushed the hair off his face, holding his cheeks in her hands.
His eyes are so much like Matthews, but it was Alice who looked the most like him. She had his nose, his chin, she was tall and skinny and just the most adorable copy of him. Every feature on him was in one of their kids, he saw the same thing in her.
“Are you sure?” She asked him softly.
“The only thing in the whole world that I know for certain is that I love you and this family. Even gravity is simply a hypothetical, but you and me… I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life,” his words soft and his expression softer.
She kissed him, pressing her lips against his for the first time in a while. It always felt like coming home, this was where she was meant to be.
When she pulled back all she wanted to do was look at him for a minute, to imagine what new little face the two of them could make together. All 4 of their children were so perfect, she couldn’t imagine a 5th possibility.
“Put a baby in me,” She whispered.
She didn’t have to tell him twice, he reached over to the night table to turn off the light before kissing her neck softly. His big, warm hands wrapped around her back, pulling her in closer to him.
He was so much different now from the first time they did this. Confident, stronger, older, but he was still her soft boy. He held her with care, kissed her like she was made out of glass. The contrast of his actions and the feeling of his rough hands on her body made her feel like she was on fire.
He pushed the straps of her shirt off her shoulders, dipping her back a little so he could kiss her cheek. He pushed her shirt down, freeing one of her breasts, holding it softly in his hands before kissing the newly exposed skin.
His tongue swiped across her nipple, making her gasp and grip his arm as she rutted into the feeling. He cradled her head in his hands, laying her back with her head now at the foot of the bed.
Still, between her legs, he pulled the satin shorts down slowly to see she never wore any underwear under them. He smirked, running his finger softly over her vagina, watching in awe as she spread her legs wider for him.
She could see how hard he was, his erection making a tent in his boxers as he teased her softly. “Still so perfect,” he praised her. “Look how tight you are, sucking my finger inside that tight heat.”
She tightened around him on purpose then, feeling his finger slip in even more. “Fuck,” he gasped. Moving down more to place a kiss on her clit.
Her breathing picked up then, even after 11 years of sex with this man, the thought of his tongue on her still made her shiver. He was just that good, always getting better every time he dove face-first into her.
Her back arched the second his tongue connected with her clit. Pushing herself into his tongue more and more as he explored her. Two fingers were inside of her now, Spencer’s mouth kissing and sucking and licking every single inch of her pussy as she quietly gasped into the darkness.
She wanted to scream for more, she always did, but she couldn’t anymore. There were 4 sets of ears just down the hall trying to have a peaceful night’s sleep, she had to remind herself of that every time.
“Fuck, Spencer,” she whispered, biting her lip so nothing else slipped out.
“What?” He whispered against her skin, kissing her groin and lower tummy.
“Please,” she begged softly, sitting up and climbing onto his lap once more. “Daddy?”
It had been years since she said that to him, not able to utter the words once he actually became a father. It lit a fire in him, pulling her in closer before he ripped the shirt off her body.
He held her against him, kissing her neck as he basically growled at the feeling. Becoming almost feral with the thought of fucking her. She was in love with the feeling, when he got rough with her it was the best.
She enjoyed every second of it, knowing she’d wake up in the morning with beard burn on her neck and between her thighs, not giving a single fuck. It was so worth it, the tickle of his facial hair on her skin beside his mouth, she craved it.
“I need you out of those boxers, sir,” she panted, holding his hair as he continued to kiss her neck.
He pulled off her, looking at her in the darkness with lust-filled eyes. “Lay back,” he instructed her.
She always listened, laying back against the pillows as he freed himself from the confines of his underwear. Crawling on top of her and hovering slightly as he looked down at her. He brushed her hair off her face, kissing her lips lightly before smiling.
“Tell me again what you want?”
She smirked, “I want you to put a baby in me, fill me up. Let me make you a daddy again?”
The noise that left his throat was enough to make her clit twitch again, it was deep and guttural and beyond sexy. He became an animal on nights like this.
She spread her legs again, wrapping her knees around him as he pulled him in against her body. “Fuck me, Spencer.”
He lined himself up with her quickly, dragging the head of his cock through her folds a few times before he began to push in. Little by little, achingly slow. Teasing her, knowing just how badly she wanted him to pound into her.
“Yes,” she sighed as he bottomed out, dropping her head back against the pillow softly.
Her hands roamed his back, waiting for him to start to move again. Digging her nails in when he finally did, pulling out slowly before pushing back in with effort.
“Ah,” she moaned softly, covering her own mouth as he started to move faster.
“Shhh,” he reminded her, kissing her neck again as he found his rhythm.
“Shut up and fuck me then,” she sounded desperate. “Please,” she added. Not wanting him to stop out of spite.
“Shut up and take it,” he ordered, placing his own hand over her mouth as he fucked her harder.
She couldn’t believe it, he was holding one hand over her mouth while his other reached for her clit, making her jolt forward at the contact. It was everything she wanted, it was rough and powerful and just the best reminder that she belonged to him.
Spencer was hers, she was his, they created this entire world together. She felt so overwhelmed, she wasn’t aware that she was crying at the pleasure till Spencer moved his hand off her mouth to wipe off a tear.
“Keep going,” she encouraged him. “Please, please.”
“Shhh,” he soothed her, “I’m going to make you feel so good bunny, you’re going to be so full, so beautiful carrying another one of our babies.”
That did it for her, she tilted her head back as she arched her back. Pulling Spencer’s fingers into her mouth so that she wouldn’t moan too loud as she came on his cock.
Spencer shuttered at the feeling, fucking into her with vigour as he tried to hold in his own moans. Sounding more like a whimper when he finally came, spilling into her with the force of a Mack truck.
He dropped against her body then, breathing deep into her neck. She wrapped her legs around him tightly, holding him inside of her so nothing slipped out. “Fuck.”
“I love you,” Spencer breathed against her skin.
She ran her fingers through his hair softly before kissing his forehead. “I love you more.”
They stayed like that for a while, only pulling apart finally to get cleaned up. Spencer turned back on the light, helping her to the bathroom quietly before stripping the sheets off the bed.
She returned to a freshly made bed and a dressed Spencer waiting for her. She put her shorts and a t-shirt back on, slipping into bed and cuddling into him once more. Having to look presentable for when the kids eventually came running into their room at 7 am.
She sighed into his embrace, smiling softly against his skin. “What was that Buddha quote you told me all those years ago?”
“When you meet your soulmate, remember that the act to bring you together was 500 years in the making. So always appreciate and be kind to each other,” Spencer replied softly.
“Goodnight, Spence,” she kissed his jaw softly as she snuggled in closer.
“Goodnight, bunny.”

After arriving at the police headquarters, you followed Gideon and the rest of the team inside the building. It still felt awkward between you and the rest of the team which is why you stuck to Gideon’s side the whole time. He walked fast throughout the building, and you did your best to keep up.
“He never stands with his back to a window. When I was between him and a doorway, he asked me to move,” Derek gossiped about your friend.
“That's hypervigilance. It's not uncommon in post-traumatic stress disorder.”
“Just how much disorder are we talking about?”
“Morgan, it's been six months. Everything's okay,” Hotchner calmed him down.
“And he brings along a woman we don’t even know? How do we know we can trust her? I’m sorry, but she doesn’t mean anything to me yet,” Derek asked just as you passed them.
Looking at them over your shoulder, you caught Spencer’s eyes before moving on.
“Give her time. You gave me time,” he said, catching up to you. “Sorry about that.”
“Don’t be. He’s right. I’m a stranger to you guys.”
“Hopefully by the end of this, you won’t be,” he smiled, walking into the main room with you that was crowded with uniforms.
“This is special agent Gideon, special agent Morgan, our expert on obsessional crimes, special agent Reid—”
“Dr. Reid,” Gideon interrupted.
“Dr. Reid, our expert on well, everything, and the newest member of our team, Y/N Y/L/N. And after two years busting my ass in this office, I hope you all remember me,” Hotchner smiled with the laughter that ensured throughout the room.
“He's willing to travel with the body,” Gideon speaks, looking at the map.
“Then he drives a vehicle capable of concealing one,” Hotchner added.
“1 in 7.4 drivers in Seattle owns an SUV,” Spencer spat out.
“But how do we know it's his car? Ted Bundy drove a VW Bug. What about a Jeep Cherokee? Jeeps are more masculine,” Derek voiced his thoughts.
“We all know how an unsub feels about asserting his masculinity,” Gideon chuckled.
“When did the bureau become involved in the case?” Hotchner asked the lead police officer.
“After the fourth body. He dumped that one out of state.”
While everyone was conversing and talking, you walked up the board with the recent pictures of the latest kidnapped victim, Heather. She went missing about a day ago which means she has about 24 hours left until she is dead—and the clock is ticking. Her image and the photos of the abduction site certainly does something for you, but it’s not enough. Reaching up to touch the image of her, you closed your eyes to see if you can get anything from a picture.
A flash of an orange car here, her heart rate increasing while inside the car, but other than that, you got nothing. It would be better if you were touching some of her things since the human body leaves traces wherever they go, whatever they touch. Since she wasn’t murdered, there isn’t a dump site that would give you even more clues and answers.
“What are you doing?” Spencer asked when he saw you.
Opening your eyes, you lowered your hand before looking at him.
“I am trying to connect myself with her through a photograph. It’s not that common to get anything, but it does happen. I see an orange car and her fearful expressions, but that’s about it.”
“What do you need in order to get a clearer picture?”
“Her belongings. Every human leaves a spiritual trace wherever they go. It’s stronger with personal items.”
“Agent Gideon, where would you like to start?” one of the policemen asked.
“Let's start at the site of the last murder. Y/N, you coming?”
“I think I’ll get a better read on Heather and whether she’s alive or not if I’m with her things. I’ll go to her house.”
“Reid and I will go with you,” Hotchner announced.
Knowing you wouldn’t go alone, you bit your own tongue and followed the two men out the door. The fact that the Bureau provided government standard SUVs were pretty cool. It didn’t take long to go to Heather’s house, and when you arrived, you met her brother and the dog she owned.
“Sandy, no, no, no. I'm so sorry,” Heather’s brother, David, apologized when the big dog started barking and trying to playfully attack you three. However, when it came to you, the dog just stared at you silently.
“No, it's okay. It's what we call the Reid effect,” Hotchner stated, causing the young doctor to be confused. “I'm agent Hotchner. This is special agent Dr. Reid and Dr. Y/N Y/L/N.”
“Y/N is fine,” you quickly added.
“You two look too young to have gone to medical school,” the man observed.
“They're PhD's. 3 of them. She has two.”
“Spencer,” you whispered softly to get him to shut up about it.
It’s not like you don’t want people to know you have 2 PhDs, but you just didn’t want the attention. Plus, if your dad knew you went to school to be a profiler in the FBI, he’d have your head.
“Are you a genius or something?”
“I don't believe that intelligence can be accurately quantified, but I do have an IQ of 187 and an eidetic memory and can read 20,000 words per minute,” he gushed. The man stared at him like he was crazy, so the young doctor just agreed. “Yes, I'm a genius.”
“Sandy, you get a lot of attention, don't you?” Hotchner asked the dog who just panted.
Instead of being with them, you took a look around the room to see if you can get a feel to the place. Heather’s spirit was here through certain items, but because there are more than one, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly where it’s coming from. The conversation went on about her dog until it got back on track.
“David, does your sister drive a Datsun Z?” Spencer asked when he picked up a magazine.
“No, but she's in the market for one. How'd you know?” he asked, and Spencer held it up. David just shook his head and took his dog outside since she was getting antsy.
“There's an immediate relationship established between a buyer and a seller, a certain level of trust. If I want to coax a young woman into my car, I’d offer her a test drive,” you said, causing the two men to stare at you.
Their bodies were emitting tension, and you knew they didn’t trust you at all. You needed to do something to prove to them that you were worthy enough to be on this team.
“Let me show you what I can do, okay?”
“Alright,” Hotch said.
Taking the magazine from Spencer’s hands, you closed your eyes in concentration. A multitude of pictures flashed through your mind due to the residue that Heather left behind, until those pictures turned into film. Heather was seated on the couch right behind Hotch and Spencer, flipping through the magazine happily. When she got to the page she wanted, she grabbed the red marker on the table next to her and circled the orange car a bunch of times. She then grabbed her money and began counting it to see if she had enough money to buy it.
“Heather is sitting on that couch, super excited to buy the orange car I keep seeing. She circles the one she wants with a red marker, and she starts to count her money,” you open your eyes, and began to flip through the magazine until you found the page you were looking for. “If I’m right, it’s this page she was on. She found someone with this exact car, and whoever took her did it because they got her to test drive it.”
The page you landed on was the same exact page with the red marker.
“Nice job,” Hotch complimented.
“That’s amazing,” Spencer muttered.
“Thank you. I just want to help, Agent Hotchner.”
“Please, call me Hotch.”

“Okay, then how about the fact that on one hand, we have paranoid psychosis, but the autopsy protocol says what?” Derek asked.
Back at the office, everyone was talking about the case and how the MO of this unsub didn’t make any sense. Derek was the one who was freaking out about everything since apparently not having a profile ready didn't bode well for him.
“Adhesive residue shows he put layer after layer of duct tape over his victims' eyes,” Spencer answered.
“He knows he wants to kill them, but he still covers their eyes. He doesn't want 'em looking at him, apparently. Okay, but then he takes the body and dumps it right out in the open, murder weapon nearby.”
“Not the MO of a paranoid convinced he's being watched or surveilled,” Spencer added.
Gideon stares at the drawing board while the rest talked about the case. Just by the look of his face, he was drowning out whatever they were saying. Even though you can get a read on his spiritual energy, that didn’t mean you could understand what he is thinking.
“Jason? What’s wrong?” you asked quietly, making sure only he could hear you.
However, he didn’t answer you directly.
“Alright, enough,” he interrupted the chatter in the room. “Let's tell them we're ready.”
“We're ready?” Derek gasped as Gideon left the room. The young genius started to write something down on his notepad, but the older agent wasn’t finished. “Reid, you're good with this? We've got a woman who's only got a few hours left to live, an incomplete profile, and a unit chief on the verge of a nervous breakdown.”
“They don't call them nervous breakdowns anymore,” you noted.
“It's called a major depressive episode.”
“I know, Reid,” Derek sighed.
Walking away from the board, you looked at Spencer quickly right before you left the room. Gideon gathered everyone in a conference room to deliver the profile and stood in the middle of the room with the tables blocking him in on three sides like a square. The rest of his team stood off to the side, and while Hotch, Spencer, and Derek were listening, you were watching the reactions of everyone in this room. If your abilities told you anything, it’s how untrustworthy even the most highly respected person could be.
“The unidentified subject is white and in his late 20's. He's someone you wouldn't notice at first. He's someone who'd blend into any crowd. The violent nature of the crime suggests a previous criminal record--petty crimes, maybe auto theft,” Gideon began. Running your eyes over every person in this room, you tapped into their energies to see what the normal eye couldn’t.
“We've classified him as an organized killer—psychopathic as opposed to psychotic. He follows the news, has good hygiene, and he's smart. 'Cause he's smart, the only physical evidence you'll find is what he wants you to find,” Gideon continued. The person right in front of you wanted to pay attention, but all of his focus was centered on his phone. He’s got some private issues at home that you rather not delve into right now.
He's mobile, and his car in good condition. Our guess is a Jeep Cherokee with tinted windows. The murders have all involved rapes, but rape without penetration is a form of piquerism, and that tells us he's sexually inadequate.”
The person to your right is paying very close attention to what Gideon is saying, but she is focused on his lips and the way he talks which says that she’s attracted to him right now. That made you want to laugh because you knew for a fact that Gideon was seeing someone on the down low.
“What is it?” Spencer whispered when he saw the hint of your smile.
“That woman over there wants to bone Gideon,” you whispered back.
“How do you know?”
“I’m psychic, Spencer. I know more about a person than you think. Want me to do you?”
“No, thank you,” he whispered and got back to what Gideon was saying.
“Psychiatric evaluations will show a history of paranoia stemming from a childhood trauma—death of a parent or family member, and now he feels persecuted and watched. Murder gives him a sense of power. Organized killers have a fascination with law enforcement. They will inject themselves into the investigation. They will even come forward as witnesses to see just how much the police really know. That makes them feel powerful, in control. Which is why I also think in fact, I know you have already interviewed him,” Gideon finished, causing the entire room to feel shocked at the news.

Okay so I read this tumblr prompt list and then I was gripped with the need to write this fic. (It’s also on Ao3)
Title: It’s the Water Words: 2,238 Rated: General. No canon-typical violence. Summary: Waking up to a continual dripping noise early in the morning wasn’t Spencer’s idea of a good day off. Especially given the rarity of a guaranteed day off and the fact that the dripping wasn’t from any of his taps; Morgan had come around and fixed something about washers in them the last time he visited.
No, this dripping was because of the apartment above him, and it had been happening long enough that walking through on what was a nice, plush rug was now like stepping on a thick carpet of moss after some heavy rain.
Briefly, Spencer considered a life of actual crime starting with the upstairs neighbour, then he’d consider annoyances on a case by case basis after that.
I.e. Spencer's apartment floods and before he actually can consider murder he leaves and meets Luke instead, fluff and a bit of pining ensues.
After spending what felt like hours picking up the books with water damage alongside anything else that found its way to the lower status of ‘floor’ in his home, Spencer decided enough was enough. He’d let everything dry the way it was set out, but he had to get out of the house.
The thought of going to the library didn’t help; he had the books he wanted right here, and seeing different versions of them just because his were all wet now wouldn’t help his mood. So for the first time in a long time, he left the house without a set direction.
He found himself at the park and ended up sitting down. There weren’t chess tables at this park, which would have served as a nice distraction. Instead, he tried to push thoughts of his neighbour apologising profusely out of his head as he laid beneath the shade of a tree.
He’d been there for about forty-six minutes before he heard his name being called, and his heart fluttered when he lifted his head and opened his eyes to see Luke strolling towards him. Roxy was on a lead beside him, well-trained and not pulling just as Spencer would expect.
“First time seeing you here, you okay?” His smile softened a little bit as he seemed to notice Spencer wasn’t in as good a mood. “You look a little down.”
“Yeah, my apartment flooded and I just, I had to get out.”
“So you decided to come to the park?”
“I didn’t actually know where I wanted to go, but I ended up here.” Luke held his gaze for a moment before moving to sit behind him, making Roxy sit on his other side away from Spencer. Spencer smiled when he noticed what Luke had done, and put his head back down with an arm behind his head as a pillow.
They’d been talking for a while before Luke mentioned being hungry. He almost looked offended when Spencer said he hadn’t eaten anything yet, and only said ‘wait there’ before leaving for a few minutes.
He came back with two crepes in hand, and water bottles tucked under his arm. Spencer perked up at the sight of the sugary food, and Luke shook his head upon seeing it.
“I knew you’d like these. It’s not a breakfast I’d recommend, or even normally get for someone else, but I’ve made an exception for you.”
“Do you buy breakfast for people often?”
“For people I’ve dated, sure.” Spencer hid his smile behind the crepe Luke gave him, the thought of this being an impromptu date causing his stomach to flip. While Spencer thought about it, Luke watched him, his ever-present smile growing.
“Have you ever made breakfast for someone?”
“No, generally I want the people I’m eating food with to be able to make it through the meal.” At Spencer’s raised brow, he shrugged. “I’m not much good in a kitchen.”
“That makes two of us.”
“What excuse do you use to hide the fact you can’t cook from your partners?”
“I haven’t had much need for an excuse, but also you can tell by looking at my kitchen. And my impressive takeout menu collection.”
Luke laughed, shaking his head. “Oh? I feel like you’re a creature of habit, I’m surprised you’d have a large collection.”
Spencer’s nose wrinkled. “Well, I had to find the good ones first. Now I guess I do just pick from a select few. Regardless, I look like I’m more spontaneous than I am, I think it works in my favour.”
“You don’t need to be spontaneous to lure people in. We have enough spontaneity in our line of work, I’d say.”
“So I just need to find someone in our line of work, you’re saying?” Instead of responding verbally, Luke just stared at Spencer while Spencer wondered if maybe this is what heart palpitations felt like. Realistically he knew it wasn’t, but he didn’t have another name for what it felt like.
Just when it looked like Luke would respond, Spencer cut in.
“Can I uh, have one of those water bottles, please?” It was Luke’s turn to raise a brow, and Spencer ignored it to ask about Roxy instead, knowing she was a subject Luke could talk about for days.
Spencer spent the rest of their time at the park very aware of Luke’s motions and words. How he gestured more when excited and it was probably due to his being able to use sign language. How he was most excited talking about Roxy, and would alter between gesticulating and patting said dog. He’d tell anecdotes and then listen to Spencer’s facts and infodumping. Spencer realised he had it bad when, too focused on what Luke was saying and doing, he took too long to respond and there was just silence while the two stared at each other.
Saved again from another possibly awkward moment then, it started to shower lightly. The two hadn’t noticed the fluffy clouds darkening slightly, gathering more mass in the sky above them. Luke laughed and stood up, Roxy coming to attention beside him.
“I wake up in bed, and there’s water everywhere. I try to escape it and it rains, and now there’s water everywhere again.” Spencer ran a hand through his hair as he watched the rain darken the sleeve of his sweater as he held his arm up in front of him.
“Pretty sure there’s no leak at my house, maybe you could come over for a bit? Just to get out of the rain, if you’re not ready to go home yet.” Spencer wasn’t ready to leave Luke yet, but he wasn’t going to share that. Instead, for a minute he let himself feel anxious about going to Luke’s house for the first time, then nodded and followed Luke’s lead.
While the trip from the park to Luke’s house was relatively short, the rain got heavier in that direction, and the two were almost wet through by the time they reached the house. Luke had Roxy shake herself before they went inside, but she still shook herself in the entryway when Luke went to go get a towel for the three of them. Spencer wrinkled his nose, thinking about all the germs and wet dog smell she had the potential to spread around. To spread onto him.
“Dr Reid, are you mad at my dog?”
Spencer startled and looked up to see a grinning Luke and laughed self-consciously, shaking his head.
“It’s the Reid Effect, makes me uneasy near animals sometimes.” Luke nodded, passing him a towel before trying to dry the dog. Spencer left his shoes and wet socks at the door and stepped into the living room, casting his eyes around the room that was much cleaner than his own. Even before it was flooded.
“You profiling me, Spence?” He felt a little warm at the nickname coming from Luke and shook his head.
“No, just looking. Your house is a lot less cluttered than mine.” Wondering if it was really doing anything, Spencer was patting down his clothes with the towel as he moved around the space.
“Well, it wasn’t too long ago that I moved.” Spencer squinted a little, disbelieving. “Alright, maybe it’s been long enough to get some new things, but we’ve been busy, haven’t we?”
“I think you could live here for another year and hardly accumulate more things.”
“You’re profiling more now, aren’t you?” Spencer laughed, humming in agreement as he started drying his hair. He wanted to keep looking around, but he was caught by the sight of Luke; he’d draped the towel over his shoulders and was scrubbing his hair with one end of it. He let his eyes follow the flexing of muscle in the man’s arm before forcing himself to look away in case Luke noticed.
“Well, maybe a little. I’m kind of jealous that it looks so nice, but I couldn’t keep my house like this with my book collection.”
“Yeah, maybe the place needs a little clutter to feel more homely.” Spencer had been looking around again, but turning back to Luke he noticed the man staring at him. “Let me get you a change of clothes? You’ll freeze as you are.” Spencer nodded, accepting clothes Luke picked for him. Luke had left Spencer in the main area then, only coming out when he’d changed his own clothes and received the all clear from Spencer.
Spencer held back a sigh when he heard a laugh from behind him. Luke had come out of his room and was now leaning against the doorframe with a wide grin. Spencer did sigh then; he was tired from dealing with his soaked apartment, angry that when he tried to escape it the fates saw fit to direct a sunshower his way and get his clothes wet. And now here he was, in the house of the man he’d been trying not to fall for for the last god (and Spencer) knows how long, and he was laughing at Spencer seeing the ill-fit of clothes for a more masculine body on his small frame.
He’d dealt with that sort of thing enough throughout his life, both before and after starting with the BAU. He didn’t really have the energy to face it now. He frowned and started to roughly pull off the loose shirt before realising he was essentially stripping in front of Luke.
He could feel the heat of angry embarrassment warming his face and neck, but confusion joined the emotions roiling around in his head when he saw that same confusion mingled with concern in Luke’s expression.
“Hey, are you okay?”
He pursed his lips, trying to figure out what was going on outside of his own mind. Unable to properly gauge the situation, he settled for a part of the truth.
“I think I look stupid; these clothes are too big.”
Luke stared at him for a moment before walking towards him. He hesitated a few times, his mouth opening and closing without a word before he seemed to settle on what he wanted.
“Are those your own thoughts, or things you’ve heard before?”
The embarrassment rushed up again, and Spencer ducked his head as his frown deepened.
“One leads to the other often enough, don’t you think?”
“That’s a pity, because I like seeing you in my clothes. I think you look cute. Did you think I was laughing at you for looking stupid before?” Spencer’s continued silence was telling, and Luke put a hand on his shoulder.
“Spencer, I know I can’t undo damage from the past with just a few words, but if I could please know I’d do it in a heartbeat, sincerely. You don’t look stupid, okay? I like it. I really do like you in my clothes.”
Sensing that Luke was being genuine, Spencer now felt stupid because of his outburst, and the embarrassment hadn’t gone away either. His voice was quiet and his eyes were still firmly focused on the floor.
“Sorry. It hasn’t been a good day for me. Well, some it has.”
“Glad to be of service.” Spencer chuckled and finally looked back up to Luke. He was closer than Spencer expected, and he swallowed.
“I-I uh-. Thank you for the clothes, they’re nice. They smell nice.” Luke was beaming now, and Spencer was getting whiplash from his own emotions. In an effort to try and hide how revealing that admission felt, he was about to dive into a spiel about fabric softener when Luke placed both hands on Spencer’s shoulders.
“Spencer, if I were to say I’d like for today to be considered a date, how would you feel about it?” Spencer wet his lips with his tongue before trying to speak, nodding.
“I’d uh, I’d like that. Yeah.” Before he could add more, Luke pulled him into an almost crushing hug. He responded in kind, his arms coming up around Luke and his hands pressing the place between Luke’s shoulder blades, fingers curling in the fabric of his shirt.
“This wasn’t what I thought would happen when I took Roxy for a walk today, but it’s something I’ve wanted to ask for a while. Well actually, I wanted to ask you on a date and then go out for one, but this works.”
“And you said we didn’t need spontaneity.” Spencer felt Luke’s laugh through his own chest, close as they were, and couldn’t stop himself from pressing his lips to Luke’s shoulder.
He’d flood the apartment himself if it meant he could do this every day; be in Luke’s arms and wrapped in his scent, giddy.

First Chapter:
Hotch can't say he has every witnessed two people forming a friendship as fast and as strong as Reid and Morgan.
From Spencer's first day on they are inseparable and he likes to think it is because Morgan didn't make a big deal out of him. Out of the kid that grew up as always the smartest one in the room, that grew up blowing peoples mind and at the same time doing the opposite. Having people judge him. Not understanding him but Morgan met him, and not in a disrespectful way, just didn't give a shit what his title says and the rest - he learned. He did everything he always does and when Spencer showed him he was uncomfortable he changed his ways and by now,years later, they play in each others cards without missing a beat.
Spencer is kneeling in the entrance area of Morgan's new house project, cuddling Clooney who had jumped in his lap, licking his face. Morgan had told him he would spend his weekend here and that Spencer can step by if he wants too and Spencer had been bored all morning, until the boredom turned into nervousness and he needed to do something.
"Pretty boy is that you?" He hears him calling from somewhere in the back of the house,but Spencer doesn't answer and just continues cuddling the dog,feeling the warm spread through his body when he lays his head on his tight, looking to to him. His black fur glancing in the sun light shining through the window. "Only one man can keep this dog this comfortable besides me." Morgan crouches down in front of him, only in Jean's and his boots having lost his shirt over the morning. "You okay?" Carefully he patted Clooney too and waited for an answer but quickly realized that Spencer wasn't going to talk to him. "Why don't you take him to the backyard or for a walk? He was bored all day long." Spencer agrees grabbing the leashe and then wrapping it around his knuckles multiple times before pressing his fingers around it. "He won't run away,the two of you always come back together."
Over the years Morgan had found out how much Clooney calms Spencer down. It wasn't untypical for Spencer to snow in and just cuddle with the dog or needing help from Morgan and he doesn't mind one bit.
What he didn't expect was his girlfriend to show up while Spencer and Clooney are out but shortly she was hanging around his neck while they stumble down the hall and pretty quickly they were enjoying themselves pretty good while Spencer comes back and plays with Clooney in the backyard. "You have a guest" Denise says out of breath, looking out of the window.
"I know." He continues and then she stops him again.
"You know?"
"Yes it's Spencer."
"Who is Spencer?"
"Let's maybe not talk about him right now?" By the time they are done, Spencer is still throwing balls while talking to the dog over anything that comes to his mind. "You can help me with the kitchen."
"Do you not want to introduce us?" She asks looking out of the doors leading to the backyard.
"He is busy."
"At your house?" Morgan starts walking into the kitchen.
"Yeah, he doesn't bother anyone here does he?"
"No I am just surprised."
"If that is what surprises you about him, you should get prepared for what that man can do with his mind."
"How do you know him?"
"We work together." Morgan goes back to fixing the sink while Denise is not much of a help just sitting on the old kitchen counter talking to him until Spencer comes in, his cheeks red from the sun and Clooney panting from the heat. "There you are, let me get you two water." The man motions to Clooney to follow him while Spencer stays frozen in place. His glances shifting around the room while he still holds the leash in his hand.
"I am Denise." She hops of the counter approaching Spencer with a stretched out hand but he moves back his ears now turning red too.
"Spencer. Spencer Reid." He contains the grip on the leash not shaking her hand.
"Here comes the water bottle." Cherful Morgan approaches him and realizes what must have run down. "Spencer meet my girlfriend Denise. Denise,meet my boyfriend Spencer." He jokes and opens the water bottle for him.
"I am not- I am not his boyfriend." He stutters out and then takes a sip.
"She knows. What do you guys say we order some pizza?"
"Sound good to me." Denise tells them and Spencer agrees too and when the Pizza arrives they all sit down on the wide steps that lead into the backyard. Clooney cuddling against Spencer's leg, Denise in the middle and Morgan on the right.
"Pretty boy don't even think about giving him Pizza." Cheaply Spencer looks at Morgan and then nods before opening his cartoon.
"I think you actually have my Pizza."
"Nope I have mine."
"I have mushrooms on mine." He tells Morgan looking disgusted.
"Well I have a spinach on mine but if that doesn't bother you we can change." Spencer looks at Morgan ones than back down on his Pizza, still having the disgust but also embarrassment all over his face so Morgan gets up and crouches down infront of him. "We can pick those off, no problem. Is it okay if I touch your food?" Again disgusted Spencer shakes his head and the continues to pick the mushrooms off himself while Morgan feeds them to Clooney.
"He likes them." Laughing Spencer hands another one to Morgan. A few years back Morgan would have tried Spencer to try them too but by now he barely tries pushing his boundaries with food. He still does sometimes but food like mushrooms are a lost case. "Are you even sure he us allowed to eat those?"
"He is." Morgan cuddles the dog one last time and then gets back up. "Now good?"
"Yes." If he sees Spencer letting Clooney eat a small bite he chooses to ignore it. Rossi made a joke ones asking if Spencer is actually friends with Morgan or if he is just friends with Cooney and Morgan is the extra.
Spencer doesn't engage in the conversation they have, he is just fine being near Morgan and eating his dinner he doesn't need a conversation to feel comfortable.
"How long have you been friends?" Denise asks shortly after Spencer got into his car and left.
"He could tell you the exact days but I guess eight maybe nine or ten years."
"Do you spend a lot time together?"
"We work together so we practically spend less time without each other."
"And outside from work?"
"He normally steps by if I renovate houses or we watch a movie or something. He is more someone who needs his time alone. But he has no problem spending that alone time around my house or with Clooney."

Chap 4
“It's confirmed,” she said with a soft smile, then looked at Hotch. “Congrats, Dad, it's a teenaged girl!”
Hotch was driving home to pack extra things into his bag when he realised that he should probably fetch Jack first. After all, if he remembered correctly, Jack was meant to be having an art day at school and the last thing he wanted to do was take Jack on a plane covered in paint and other art supplies. He had requested that Garcia book accommodation for them as the last thing he wanted was to arrive in Paris and find out the was nowhere for them all to stay, so he knew they would be staying in the Grand Paris Hotel, they would pay for their rooms after they arrived though.
That planned he picked up a very messy, yet excited Jack and got everything else that he needed done sorted and met the team at the airport. He was admittedly a bit nervous, after all, he'd just found out he had a teenage daughter and he had no idea if she knew that Tom wasn't her father. The team boarded without any issues and settled in for the flight. Since D.C was 6hrs behind Paris, despite them leaving at 1 pm they would be landing in Paris at 6 pm.
They had been on the plane for about an hour when Reid, who had been quiet for the most part, spoke up.
“I think we should look into Marinette's teacher as well as the two girls Matt mentioned.” Seeing the confused looks he continued, “While it may be possible that the teacher hasn't noticed what is happening with Marinette. If we go by what Matt said about how she seemed relieved that an adult other than her parents believed her, I think we can deduce that the school hasn't supported her. I read through the records about her that Garcia was able to get and her school file indicates that she has almost been expelled a few times since Miss Rossi joined the class. I find that strange because before that she had an almost spotless record there is even a note stating that she is generally quiet but will stand up to bullies. If you then take Frances' policy of emphasising the teacher's authority and how much they stress analytical thinking, it paints a picture of either a weak-willed teacher or one that just doesn't care.”
“I see where you going with this Pretty Boy, you think that the teacher has seen everything that Marinette is going through but instead of trying to help her, she's making Marinette lock away her natural reaction of standing up for herself in favour of trying to maintain the status quo. Marinette has probably tried to speak to her teacher but been told to simply keep quiet, which has then lead to her classmates thinking that she's been reprimanded and that what they are doing is the right thing.” Morgan sounded contemplative as he spoke.
“I could see that happening if the teacher wasn't very experienced with teens or perhaps was better suited to teaching much younger children.” This time it was Prentiss that spoke up. “Garcia can you-”
“Already ahead of you there. Records sent to your tablets but to summerise what I have found this is Caline Bustier's first teaching position, she applied to only teach art as she wanted to gain a bit more experience before teaching full classes. She has a history through her school career of fading into the background whenever there was any conflict near her. Ironically enough she was always found at the scene of a fight but never seen to be directly involved.” Garcia's fingers were flying over the keys of her laptop even as she gave her brief report.
JJ frowned, “Do you guys think she could have instigated those fights only to step back as the fight got bigger? I don't think I'd want to let her near my kids if that was the case.”
“That's presuming the parents knew about her history in the first place,” Reid interjected.
By this stage, Hotch was glad he had had the forethought to pack a tablet with games and movies along with headphones for Jack. He knew how strong Jack's sense of right and wrong was and knew that if Jack heard about what was happening to his big sister he wouldn't be happy. When he had told Jack where they were going and why Jack had just about bounced off the walls even as he promised to be the best little brother in the world. Apparently, some of his classmates had older siblings then themselves and Jack had been jealous of the bond they seemed to share.
The rest of the flight passed in much the same manner with the only pause in the conversation being for their in-flight meal as Jack took his headphones out while he was eating. They spoke about the backgrounds that had been pulled up for each of the people in Marinette's' class and felt they knew which ones would have been swayed and why as well as which ones would keep quiet out of fear. By the time their plane landed, they had agreed they would have to talk to Marinette first but they were pretty sure she would want to change schools to get away from all the negative memories that had been formed by her class.
The trip from the airport to the hotel was also uneventful however that changed soon after their arrival. They checked into the hotel and received their key card and were just about to gather their luggage when something large and scaley ran past them fairly quickly. It stopped near the doors watching them eagerly, it's tail waving wildly. They blinked then Reid broke the silence.
“Either I am seeing things or that is a crocodile. What is a crocodile doing in Paris, let alone in an upmarket hotel?” The team couldn't answer however it seemed they didn't need to as their answer arrived in the form of a teen with Ravens wing blue hair pulled into pigtails walked through the door, only to drop what she was holding as she fell to the floor with a lap full of the reptile.
“FANG!” she yelped. “Hey, silly boy why are you down here and not upstairs with your dad? You know you not allowed out of the room without a lead on. Did you escape just too great me?” Even as she calmed down and spoke, she was rubbing its jaw showing absolutely no fear of it despite its size. She even seemed to scold it through the giggles that were now trying to escape her lips. The huge croc simply rumbled in what could only be described as a purr. Another teen stalked into the reception hall to see what the commotion was, only for a sneer to cross her face.
“Uugh, it's you. Seriously why are you even here?”
“Hello to you too, Chloé. I'm sure I don't have to explain myself to you so instead of fighting, why don't I simply take Fang back to his room and then you don't have to see me.” As she replied to Chloé, she pushed the croc off her lap and gathered the bags that she had been carrying. They seemed to be clothing bags of some description. She then looked up and the BAU realised who the girl was, Marinette. Why was she here on a Friday night? Shouldn't she be at home? Why was she so comfortable around such a large crocodile?
“Fine! Just get out of my sight. This is ridiculous! Utterly ridiculous!” The blond, Chloé, spun on her heel, flicked her hair and flounced off. Marinette looked at the BAU and seemed to read their confused faces as confusion over Chloés' behaviour.
“Don't worry about her,” she said reassuringly, “ Chloé is always like that, her father is the mayor and owns this hotel. She was also one of the temporary hero's at one stage so she likes to act like everyone else is beneath her.” She then looked down at the crocodile, “Right, let's go, Fang, your papa is probably pulling his hair out looking for you. I have his and Penny's order with me, they just need to have their final fitting then we can have some more cuddles, how does that sound?” The crocodile pranced in place, acting more like a big puppy rather than the reptile he was, then as Marinette walked towards the elevator he walked next to her, as perfectly behaved as any army dog. As she got the elevator she frowned then looked at them again.
“Since there are so many of you would some of you like to travel up with Fang and me? He's a big softy who wouldn't hurt a fly, I promise.”
Jack immediately started tugging Hotch's hand, “Please Dad? I want to pet him!”
Hotch smiled softly yet worriedly, he was a little nervous for this to be his first interaction with his daughter but his paternal instinct wanted him to get to know her and find out why she was here with garment bags in the first place. JJ noticed his dilemma and volunteered to go up with them. Hotch smiled at her in relief and the three of them joined Marinette just as it arrived so they all piled in. Marinette quickly showed Jack how to pat Fang and the croc seemed to lap up the attention. It was pure chance that they were all going to the same floor so when the doors opened again Marinette let them out first then walked out only to be greeted by an overly loud shout.
“MARINETTE! And you found Fang for me! Rock on!”
 @virgil-is-a-cutie for the idea about madam Bustier
@a-marlene-s for all her support! You Rock!

Bless The Broken Road - 32
The next day, the girls flew back home. Jane arrived at the apartment to find Spencer sitting with Shortstack on the couch.
“Hey!” she cheered.
“Hey! How was your trip?” he asked.
“It was a lot of fun!” Jane said as she kicked off her shoes and moved to join them. “What about you? Did you have a fun night?”
“Yeah, it was great,” he told her. He scanned her face. “You look like you want to tell me something.”
Jane blushed and looked down at Shortstack, scratching behind his ears. “Umm,” she stammered. “The girls and I were talking and joking around and, and they ended up daring me to kiss Emily?” She looked up at him briefly to see his eyes had widened slightly. She averted her eyes back to Shortstack again and continued, “So Emily and I sort of kissed last night.”
“Wow,” Spencer said, clearing his throat.
“Are you mad?” she asked him shyly.
“No, ahem, I’m not mad. That’s actually kind of hot?” he stated.
Jane’s head snapped up to look at his face. “Really?”
“Yeah.”
She grinned and chuckled a bit.
~~~~~
The week of the wedding, Hotch gave the team Friday off to prepare for their weekend of celebrating. The rehearsal dinner was that night at Rossi’s place. They enjoyed a beautiful night together with the team as well as friends and family that had come in from out of town for the weekend. Out of town guests included Emily, Jane’s parents, grandmother, and other relatives, and Spencer’s mother.
When the night came to an end, Jane headed back to Garcia’s with her for the night, as she and Spencer thought it best to spend the night before their wedding away from each other.
In the morning, the ladies headed to the salon to get their hair and makeup done for the big day. Jane’s hair was put up in a bun with some strands left loose in the front and a sparkly clip in the back.
After they were all done at the salon, they grabbed a quick lunch before driving out to the wedding location. As it was a rural location, they had set up tents to act as dressing rooms for the wedding party. The men would all be wearing gray suits while the bridesmaids’ dresses were a shade of burgundy.
Outside of the tents, they could hear guests chattering as they arrived and took their seats on the folding chairs set up in the clearing. The area was surrounded by beautiful fall foliage and they’d set up pumpkins and burgundy, purple, and orange flowers to line the ends of the aisle. The front had an arch set up for the couple to stand underneath as they said their vows.
When it was time to begin, the wedding party minus Jane and her father lined up and began their processsion. He’d wait until it was time for her to walk to bring her out so Spencer wouldn’t see her too early.
First, Spencer escorted his and Jane’s mothers down the aisle and seated them in the front row before joining Jack up at the altar. Next, the bridesmaids and groomsmen made their way up to the front. Chuckles of amusement could be heard as Henry walked down the eisle, a pillow with the rings on it in one hand and Shortstack’s leash in the other. While he obviously was unable to drop flower petals as he went, they had Shortstack wearing a flower headpiece in order to be considered the flower dog.
“I think they’re ready for you,” Jane’s father said. “Are you ready?”
Jane took a deep breath before nodding and smiling. “Yeah.”
He embraced her. “I’m so happy for you, sweetheart.”
“Thanks, Dad,” she breathed into his shoulder.
They broke apart from their hug and she linked her arm around his for him to lead her down the aisle. Everyone stood as she made her way out into the open.
As soon as she turned to walk down the aisle, Jane locked eyes with Spencer and smiled.
His eyes widened in awe. Beside him, Morgan heard Spencer take an audible breath in as he saw his bride for the first time.
When they reached the front of the chairs, Jane’s father kissed her cheek before taking a seat next to her mother and Jane made her way up to stand next to Spencer.
He reached under her veil and touched her face. “You look beautiful,” he spoke softly.
Jane smiled but said nothing. The couple looked to Jack to begin officiating the ceremony.
“We’re gathered here today to celebrate the love that Jane and Spencer have for each other and the life they are about to embark on together in marriage. I remember the first time I met Spencer and saw the pair together back when they were just friends. Jane insisted they were just friends and coworkers, but I could tell there was more to it. Now today, I am so happy they’ve asked me to officiate this service,” Jack shared. “Without further ado, the bride and groom have both prepared vows to read to each other.”
Spencer and Jane turned to face each other again. They both shared their vows  and then Jack asked for the rings. Henry brought Shortstack over to the center, elicited “aww”s from many in the room. They placed the rings on each others’ fingers and said their “I do”s.
“You may now kiss the bride,” Jack told Spencer. Spencer lifted Jane’s veil and leaned down to kiss her. They heard Morgan let out a whistle and many people cheered and applauded.
“It is my honor to present to you, Dr. and Dr. Spencer Reid,” Jack announced.
Spencer took Jane’s hand and together they walked down the aisle, offically husband and wife. Neither one could stop smiling.
They had a few hours to take pictures before the reception started. The reception was held in a barn near the ceremony property. It was a wonderful, fun-filled evening of dancing and celebrating with all of their family and closest friends. At the end of the night, they headed back home, both exhausted.
Jane was unable to hold back a yawn on the drive back.
“Tired?” Spencer asked her.
“Yeah.”
“Me too,” Spencer admitted.
“I know wedding night tradition calls for the bride and groom to sleep together for the first time as husband and wife, but how would you feel about waiting until the honeymoon? Honestly, right now I just want to sleep,” Jane laughed. “And I want our first time as husband and wife to be perfect so I’d rather wait.”
They stopped at a red light and Spencer turned to look at her. “I want it to be perfect too. Let’s wait until our honeymoon,” he agreed. He leaned over and kissed her before the light turned green again.
~~~
Monday, October 3rd.
Jane and Spencer took an early morning flight to Vienna Italy to start off their honeymoon. They settled into their hotel before going off to take in the sights.
After they got back to the hotel, Jane took a seat on the bed and smiled at Spencer as he came to join her.
“What?” he asked, trying to read her face.
“I’m just so happy right now,” she told him.
“Yeah? Me too,” Spencer agreed, smiling as he lifted a hand to her face.
He pulled her to him and began kissing her. Jane reached up and tangled her hands in his hair and Spencer moved them so that they could lay down on the bed. They both worked to take off each other’s clothes and then had their belated wedding night.
~
The couple woke up in the morning to the sun streaming through the window. Spencer drew circles on Jane’s bare back. Her eyes fluttered open and she smiled up at him, reaching up to give him a peck on the lips.
“Good morning,” she whispered.
“Good morning,” he repeated back, giving her another kiss.
“Mmm, I wish we could just spend all day in bed,” she told him. “But I also don’t wanna miss seeing the sights while we’re here.”
“I know. I feel the same way,” he agreed. Spencer stretched and moved to sit up, pulling Jane up with him. “Come on. Let’s shower and get going.”
~~~
Jane and Spencer had a wonderful time during their honeymoon traveling throughout Europe. After a few weeks, it was time to get back home and back to work.
~~~
Sunday, October 16th.
Jane and Spencer were greeted by Jack and Shortstack at their apartment upon their arrival. They thanked Jack for watching Shortstack before he left so they could get to unpacking.
~
The next day, the couple came into work holding hands.
Everyone was awaiting their arrival and welcomed them back with hugs. Before they could get to asking how their trip was, however, a case came in. They’d (meaning Garcia mainly) have to get the details later.
~
Wednesday, October 26th.
The team was on a case in Colorado. Jane was at the sink in the bathroom of the local police station, staring at her reflection in the mirror when JJ entered the room.
“Hey, everything alright? You’ve been in here a while,” JJ asked her.
“Yeah, sorry. We should get back to the case,” Jane replied, attempting to walk past her. JJ put a hand on her arm to stop her.
“Wait, slow down. The team’s fine without us for a few minutes. What’s up?” she questioned her.
Jane sighed, looking at the floor and then back to JJ. “My period was supposed to start yesterday and it hasn’t yet.”
“You might be pregnant?”
“Yeah.”
“Alright, well. Why don’t we make an excuse to go to the store later before we head back to the hotel for the night. We can get you a test and you can take it in my room.”
“OK,” Jane agreed with a nod. “OK. Thank you, JJ.” She stepped forward and hugged her before the two went back to the team.
That night, Jane made an excuse to Spencer about stepping out to call Jack so that she could head over to JJ’s room to take a pregnancy test.
They waited the alloted time for the test to be complete before Jane took a deep breath and looked at the stick.
She look up at JJ and told her, “It’s negative. I guess it’s just a false alarm,” Jane told her.
“Wow,” JJ breathed. Jane threw the test in the trash and moved to take a seat on the bed. “That’s good though, right? You guys just got married. You aren’t ready for kids yet. Are you?”
“Right,” Jane agreed. “I just...” she trailed off for a moment. “I didn’t think I’d be this disappointed that it’s negative.”
“Ok,” JJ said, taking a seat next to her. “Well, maybe you are ready. Take some time to think about it and then talk to Spencer about it,” she suggested.
“Yeah, I know.”
~~~~~
Thursday, November 10th.
It was weeks later and Jane still hadn’t talked to Spencer about her feelings about having kids. When they had gotten back from the case where she’d had a false alarm, they’d slept together again.
Now Jane was staring at herself in the bathroom mirror. She’d taken another pregnancy test. It was negative again so she tossed it in the trash.
Spencer entered the bathroom and she busied herself with finishing up getting ready for work.
In the mirror’s reflection, she saw Spencer look down to the trash and see the test.
“Jane, is that what I think it is?” he questioned.
Jane sighed and turned around to face him, leaning on the counter. “Yeah. It’s negative. On our first case back after our honeymoon, I thought I might’ve been pregnant but it was a false alarm and now I thought I’d check again since we slept together when we got back from that case but no.”
“OK,” he said, trying to read her face.
“But I realized from it that I’m ready to be a mom. I want a baby, Spencer,” she told him.
He grinned at her and replied back, “I do too.”
~
It was a paperwork day at the BAU. Jane decided to stay behind during lunch and continue working while Spencer went to go get food for both of them.
He returned to the office and set the food on her desk before bending down to kiss her cheek.
As he had already finished his own paperwork, he returned to his desk to read a book. Jane noticed this but didn’t think anything of it.
At the end of the day, Jane walked over to his desk just as he was setting the book down. She glanced at the title and realized what he was reading. It was a book about ovulation and getting pregnant.
When they arrived home, he began to explain to her how they could have planned sex around her ovulation to increase their chances of getting pregnant.
“We just missed your ovulating time for November, but we could always try anyways. Do you want to?” he asked.
“Yeah, might as well,” she laughed. He stepped closer to her and kissed her. She broke the kiss and chuckled. “Oh, you meant right now?”
“Is that a problem?” he asked.
“Not at all.” She took his hand and led him back to the bedroom.
~ A few weeks later, Jane took another pregnancy test but it was still negative. They planned to try again around the start of December, but a case came up, preventing them from doing so on time. They tried later again anyway.
~
Wednesday, December 21st.
“Spencer!” Jane called from the bathroom.
“What?” he asked from the bedroom.
She entered the room holding her most recent pregnancy test.
“It’s positive,” she told him.
He stood up from the bed. “What?! Are you serious?”
“Yes!” she said, laughing.
“Oh my god!” he laughed, taking the test from her and seeing it for himself. He set it down on the bedside table then embraced her, picking her up and spinning her around.
“We’re gonna have a baby!” Jane cheered.
“We’re gonna have a baby,” Spencer repeated, equally as excited.
~
The next day, they scheduled a doctor’s appointment.
The doctor did their own tests to check on Jane before turning to the couple.
“I’m sorry to tell you this, but it looks like you’re at home test was a false positive. You’re not pregnant,” she told them.
“Oh,” was all Jane managed to say. Spencer wrapped an arm around her.
“I’m sorry. Keep trying,” she encouraged them. You’re free to go whenever you’re ready. I’ll give you two some time alone now.
“Thank you,” Spencer told the doctor. When she left, he asked Jane, “Are you alright?”
“Yeah, I’m fine,” she told him. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be. At home tests can be faulty. That’s why we scheduled this appointment.”
“Yeah,” Jane said, unsure what else to say.
~~~
Around New Years, it was time for Jane to be ovulating again. Spencer was expecting them to try again when they got home from work, but Jane wasn’t sure if she could do it.
“Spencer, I’m not so sure about this,” she told him.
“What do you mean?” he asked.
“I don’t want to try to make a baby tonight,” she told him.
“Oh,” he replied, surprised. “Alright. That’s fine. You’re ovulating for a few more days. We can try tomorrow.”
“No, not just tonight,” Jane told him, shaking her head. “I can’t do it, Spence.” She took a seat on the couch. “I can’t stand the disappointment of seeing another negative test,” she explained.
He stood in front of her. “You don’t think I’m disappointed too everytime it’s a negative or a false alarm?” I hate it too,” he insisted.
“But it’s not you who feels guilty every time. It’s like there’s something wrong with me! What if I’m not able to give you a baby?”
“So you just wanna give up now?”
Jane shook her head. “No, I’m not saying that. Maybe we could just take a break from trying for a while. Maybe we’re forcing something that isn’t supposed to happen yet.”
Spencer sighed and took a seat next to her.
“I know you’re excited to start a family and I am too, but can we wait just a little while?” she asked.
He thought about it for a moment before agreeing. “Alright. We can put it off for a while.”
“Thank you,” she told him, turning to hug him.
“Of course,” he replied.

Spencer Reid 2 (Part 2)
*2 Months Later*
"Listen to me Penelope Garcia, if my husband is not wearing his sneakers as I walk down the Isle tomorrow then I can tell you now, I will turn back around and this second wedding will not happen." I huffed, once again, as Penny tired to convince Reid to wear a pair of black dress shoes tomorrow.
"But, Y/N, it's not wedding appropriate for the groom to wear converse  as they get married." She tried.
"Penny, we have been through this, when Spencer and I got married he had on his black pants, a white shirt and a black tie." I told her, for what felt like the 100th time. "I had on a pair of jeans and one of Spencer's hoodies and you do know what we both wore?" I asked her pulling out a box from under the table and handed it to her.
"Converse?" She sighed as she looked in the box.
"Exactly." I smiled. "If you look at that pile over there, you'll see enough pares for so Spencer, Morgan, Henry Jack and Hotch will all match." I told her, her eyes widened a little in surprise and smiled.
"OK, fine, they can wear the stupid converse, now, what will you be wearing?" She asked.
"I will be wearing what ever the hell you tell me to because I am the bride and I HAVE to be uncomfortable on my big day." I smiled sarcastically. She let out a laugh and nodded.
"OK, I'm going Reid, you best get going to Morgans." She smiled. Reid nodded and rose from his seat.
"I'll see you tomorrow Y/N." He smiled as he kissed me softly.
"Yeah, I'll be the one falling down the isle." I joked, he let out a chuckle as he and Penny picked up the five boxes of shoes and left, leaving me alone so I quickly climbed into bed and read for a while until I fell asleep.
*The Next Morning*
At around 8:30 am the next morning my house turned in to a mad house, Garcia turned up and began making sure we had everything right for the ceremony.
JJ turned up at around 9am and by 11 am I had my hair and make up was done, so while Penny and JJ got ready I text Spencer, secretly of course.
The Husband: So, is she Freaking out yet?
Mrs Reid: Of course
The Husband: I'm sorry
Mrs Reid: Don't worry about it, In a couple hours I'll be standing by your side, saying I do...again.
The Husband: Can't wait
Mrs Reid: 2 hours until I can see you smiling down at me.
The Husband: 2 hours till I can kiss you
Mrs Reid: I love you, so much
The Husband: I Love You too Beautiful
"Y/N Reid, what are you doing smiling at?" JJ asked as she sat next to me, My phone buzzed again and I saw a photo from Morgan.
Agent M: *Photo*
Agent M: We're ready when you are Geek Girl.
Geek Girl: Doesn't look it 😂😂
Agent M: Well, nearly ready
"OK Y/N, it's time for your dress." Garcia squealed. I smiled, shook my head and set my phone down.
I changed into my dress, with help from the girls and smiled at JJ who handed me my flowers. The dress was white, obviously, with a lacey off the shoulder top and a white puffy bottom that came to just under my knees.
"Ermm, PG, I need shoes" I told her as I kicked my feet out as though to prove my point.
"Oh, I got you covered girl wonder." She grinned as she handed me a shoe box. "Your shoes for the day." She smiled.
I opened the box to find a pair of brand new red converse and I let out a squeal.
"Seriously?" I asked sitting down on my couch and put the shoes on.
"Yeah, you and Reid both made the point they you wanted to be comfortable and I knew converse are a big thing for you and the boy wonder," she told me. "Besides, I don't think I've ever seen you in a pair of heeled shoes and I can't imagine you in them either." She told me.
"That's true." I nodded.
"Plus JJ told me you needed to have them today, they were what makes you, you and we love you." Garcia added.
"Well, thank you both." I smiled.
JJ and PG both changed into their own dresses while I sat, trying not to throw up.
"You OK?" JJ asked as she walked over and grabbed her flowers.
"Trying not to throw up." I shrugged.
"Just nerves, you'll do fine." PG called over. JJ eyed me as I nodded, Knowing what was up anyway.
"Are you ready to do this...again?" JJ asked.
"I am." I smiled simply.
There was a knock at the door and in walked Rossi.
"My dear, you look absolutely radiant." He smiled as leaned in an kissed me cheek.
"Thank you Rossi." I smiled, "You don't look to bad yourself."
"Well ladies, shall we?" He asked, we all nodded and followed after him and into his car. the ride was filled with an excited chatter until Rossi pulled up outside the venue.
"Y/N Reid, let's go get you married." Penny smiled as we climbed out of the car.
"I'm already married." I reminded her.
"Not in my eyes you're not." She sassed, coursing Rossi, JJ and I to laugh.
"Let's do this." I smiled at her as a set of doors opened and the sound of Bette Midler- Wind Beneath my Wings, played and JJ and Penny walked in, followed by Rossi and I.
"The venue looked amazing, all covered in lights top to bottom, flowers lined the isle and there, stood at the alter, stood Spencer, my husband. When he looked up his eyes locked with mine and he smiled widened. I smiled back, raising my eyebrows up and down and he sent me a wink, making me chuckled quietly.
I won't go into the whole wedding ordeal, it was pretty basic, we said our vows, we exchanged rings and we said I do, pretty standard. The party however..that was when things got interesting, apparently all night, Morgan had been sneaking Spencer drinks so by 10 my husband was drunk and was spilling all out secrets.
"Once, Y/N and I did it in the shower and we fell over." Spencer giggled to JJ who burst out laughing as I sat down on a seat. I had insisted Spencer go out side for some fresh air and JJ had offered to join us.
"Spencer Reid, stop telling everyone all the places we've had sex!" I yelled at him but he just laughed and lent in, and whispered something in JJ's ear who then looked up wide eyed and shocked.
"What did he tell you this time, the men's room, the bullpen, the beach?" i asked suddenly worried.
"No, non of them, wait, the bullpen?" She asked surprised.
"What, Spencer can be quite the horn dog when the mood strikes." I shrugged pointing at my drunk husband who sat down on the chair next to me and rested his head on my shoulder.
"Wait, that's not the point, you're pregnant?" she asked. I turned my head to look at Spencer and shook my head.
"JJ please, don't say anything yet, if people find out now it will only spark rumours that Spencer and I only got married because I'm pregnant." I told her, "That and it's still early days yet so we don't want it getting out." I explained and she nodded but pulled me into a hug, the best she cold.
"I'm so happy for you both. I know Spencer has wanted to a dad for so long and.." She gushed and I nodded.
"I know, he almost was last year but I lost the baby, that's why we're not telling people yet." I explained, sending a sad smiled to my husband who shuffled in the seat and rest his head on my lap.
"Oh, I'm sorry Y/N, I know what it's like to lose a baby." JJ spoke quietly. I smiled down at Spencer who lay there as I brushed my fingers though his hair.
"It was a shock, I didn't even know I was pregnant until the doctor told me I'd lost it. It still kinda sucked thought."
"Well, this is you're second chance, you and Spencer will be great parents." JJ smiled, "So, how far along are you?" She asked me.
"Ten weeks." Spencer answered from his spot on my lap. I looked down a little and smiled.
"I'm only just starting to show so it's been easy hiding it." I added.
"She's been wearing bigger clothes and stealing my sweaters, you know to hide it." Spencer continued. "But no one really paid much attention to it."
"We all just figured she was stealing your clothes for the fun off it, you know, I do it all the time with Wills clothes." JJ shrugged. She went quiet for a second before she looked back at me. "Come to think of it, I haven't seen you with a glass of wine all night."
"Mostly drinking Coke and water." I told her. "If anybody asked I'd tell them Rum and Coke and water in between."
"But I've seen people buying you drinks all night?" JJ wondered.
"Spencer's been replacing them with Coke, he's been keeping an eye on me all night. Well until now." I chuckled as I pointed to my husband who was still lead on my lap, looking up and watching me.
"I'm fine, I'm sobering up a bit now." He chuckled as he took my hand in his and held it to his chest.
"Honestly, I'm not surprised you got this bad. You've been drinking my drinks all night and then I seen Morgan slipping up drinks all night."
"And Garcia." JJ added.
"He's a good husband." I laughed as he sat up, still holding onto my hand.
"He really is." JJ added. "Well, I'm going to go find my husband and children, it's time to get them both home. I see you guys in the morning for coffee, right?" She asked as she stood up.
"Yeah, for sure, I think this one is gonna need it." I chuckled as I stood up and hugged JJ.
She said her goodbyes to Spencer then left inside leaving Spencer and I alone.
"You doing OK, baby?" I asked him as he sat back down.
"I'm doing fine, baby, you feeling OK, are you tired, sick..."
"I'm going fine, but I'm ready to go home." I smiled as I placed my hand on his cheek.
"How about one more dance before we head home?" Spencer offered and I nodded, I grabbed a hold of his hand and lead him inside where I shared one last dance with my husband before we headed home where I fell asleep in Spencer's arms, his hands resting on my baby bump as we dreamt the night away.

December 31, 2017 4:17pm
Derek had gotten comfortable; the steaks were marinating and there were just a few things to grab from the grocery store. He brought up a college bowl game he had recorded while they were flying home from Chicago. Somehow, he naively thought he could watch it while Penelope was in the shower, as he didn’t need much time to get ready himself.
“Derek Avery Morgan! I know that’s not your middle name, but it’s the middle name I gave you in my head before I knew your real middle name. What are you doing?”
“Watching the game?” Derek answered sheepishly, quickly hunching his shoulders for the onslaught. “Baby girl, the food is ready, and you were in the shower.”
 Penelope stormed into the room, placing herself unceremoniously between Derek and the television screen. “What about the decorations? The liquor? The little sparkly hats? Derek, it is our first New Year’s Eve Party, it has to. Be. Purrrrr-fect!”
Derek’s head fell, he gathered his features to not display the amount of amusement he had at her berating him in nothing but a barely cinched towel. He tried to look her in the eye, but his lingered along the way up her body. His mischievous grin caused her to stomp in frustration. She held up a manicured finger, “No! Don’t you even look at me with those bedroom eyes! We have people coming over and you have decorations to pick up.”
“Can I at least get a goodbye kiss?” Derek stood, his sultry voice causing Penelope to roll her eyes. The towel on her head shifting slightly.
“Fine,” She muttered, pretending not to enjoy the way his lips trailed up her jaw. His hand slipped inside her towel and found her bare waist. “Oh, this was a bad idea.” She huffed as her hands linked behind Derek’s neck. Her towel was soon forgotten on the floor of the living room.
7:03pm
Tara strolled through the bourbon aisle at the liquor store just down the street from Penelope and Derek’s place. She ignored the appreciative stares from the men standing behind the counter with the scratch offs and Black and Milds. She had a knee length wool coat over her favorite maxi dress, her unneeded heels marking each graceful step. She didn’t feel obligated to bring something, since Penelope undoubtedly had more than enough food and drink on hand. But she hated to be the first one to arrive, so she killed time on one of the busiest drinking nights of the year. She watched the kids maneuver in the parking lot, doling out their cash to the one legal friend or one with the most acceptable fake i.d.
The brusque man behind the counter with the jilting accent rolled his eyes and refused the frat boy his stash. Tara smiled despite herself, one less driver to worry about tonight, she thought. She settled on a bottle of Jim Beam Black and left the small store with a wistful wink for the law-abiding business owner. The night air was cool, but no where near as cold as New Hampshire in the winter. She enjoyed the block and a half walk, just people watching. Something had struck in the back of her mind after her would-be date with Rossi, something like an itch had taken over.
8:37pm
“Wait! Spence, your tie!” Elle giggled as she pulled his arm back, forcing him to face her. She straightened the satin strands as he tried to bite back the guilty smirk. “Don’t look at me like that! We’re already late!”
“And whose fault is that?” Spencer teased, holding his elbow out for Elle to slip her arm through.
“Yours. Now, stop beaming like a kid in the candy store or everyone will know.”
“I can’t help it.” Spencer tried unsuccessfully to make his face more serious, he shrugged as Elle knocked on the front door. She rolled her eyes, thinking how lucky he was to be cute and hopeless, because she couldn’t stay mad at him for being completely enamored with her.
“Happy New Year!” Derek’s boisterous voice burst through the door as he froze staring. “Elle? Reid?!”
“Hey, Derek,” Elle slipped passed him with a half hug and into the heart of the party. Derek meanwhile tried to have a silent conversation with Reid who was desperately confused by the coach’s dramatic eyebrow motions.
“Man, you mean to tell me, that you, Dr. Nerd-Point-O brought Elle Greenaway to my New Year’s Eve party?!” He clarified with ample approval.
“I’d think it was obvious, Coach. I mean, we’re only living together.” Spencer gave Derek a wilted glance, tucking the tousled strands of hair behind his ears.
“That’s who you were talking about at Tutoring Hour!” Derek swatted Spencer’s chest in a biting back hand. “You dog! Well, congratulations, man, good for you!”
“Thanks, it is good, actually.” Spencer turned bright pink as Derek caught on, because Elle’s hair was particularly pinched in one place and Spencer’s shirt wasn’t tucked in in the back.
“Let me know if you want the tour!” Derek called over his shoulder as he went to let Haley and Hotch in.
Penelope squealed across the room as Elle subtly slipped into the conversation with Chris Callahan, Matt Simmons, JJ and the hostess herself. “You came! Oh, Elle-O-V-E, my sweet, I am so glad you came!”
“Hi, Penelope. How many have you had?” Elle mumbled as she hugged the affectionate blonde.
“Oh, pish, I’m home, I’ll have one more at midnight, but three if you’re serious.” Penelope squeezed Elle one last time before getting back to Chris talking about his new surround sound system. She haphazardly explained who Elle was to Matt and they nodded cordially. JJ and Matt gave Elle an impressed and appraising smirk (respectfully) as she explained she was also Spencer’s live-in girlfriend.
9:12pm
Emily was picking at the veggie tray, desperately trying to look casual while she dwindled the tower of sugar snap peas down to a single layer. Spencer had forgotten to eat and had unceremoniously began filling a tiny snack plate with each of the major food groups, hovering over the toothpicks stacked with cheese cubes. Because though he loved it, dairy didn’t always agree with him. Quickly, Spencer arrived at the veggie tray as Emily was looking off into the party vaguely.
“Phenethylamine, which is often shortened to P-E-A, is actually found in those crunchy varietals that you have been devouring. It’s one of the—"
“Love chemicals. Isn’t it the aphrodisiac found in chocolate?” Emily replied, her voice even and nearing on friendly.
“Research in the eighties linked them, however there has been no repeat success in linking libido and chocolate. But, it can’t hurt. I mean, everybody loves chocolate.” Spencer snatched the last pea pod from the tray as he finished.
“Right. Wow, Reid, got enough food there?” Emily exclaimed as she saw his overflowing plate.
“That’s the plan.” He sighed as he caught Derek and Penelope gossiping across the room. “Emily what would the easiest way to explain how much I regret being unnecessarily cruel last year, be? Well, last school year, and you didn’t deserve that.”
Emily’s eyes narrowed, she watched him twitch as he waited for her response. “Spencer,” his first name sticky in her mouth, “I- I said a lot of things I am not proud of. Let’s just call it square and move on.”
“Really?” Spencer’s eyes still held that brilliant innocence within them.
“Really, Reid.” Emily’s deep-chested chortle burst through. “Happy New Year.”
“And to you,” Spencer bowed his head and headed to find a spot on the couch.
10:48pm
Aaron Hotchner stood back and admired his friends and staff. He was in good company, his beautiful wife laughing at his side, listening to Luke retell a joke so she could memorize it. Around the house his team was reveling in witty conversation and exquisite food. His body was warm from proximity and alcohol, but Haley anchored him in place, instinctively. Luke had acclimated unexpectedly well to life at F.B.I. and Hotch was proud of his choice. He was lamenting losing Simmons when JJ returned from maternity leave next semester and wished he could find a way to keep him on board.
“Well, ask Strauss, there’s got to be funds available.” Haled exclaimed. Hotch hadn’t realized he was thinking aloud. The realization and blatant solution abruptly brought him back to the present.
“How did a guy like me get such a smart and gorgeous wife?” Aaron murmured as Haley huffed in faux exasperation.
“Forgive my husband, he gets like this when he drinks.” Haled sighed through a giggle as Aaron started playing with her hair. “Mr. Serious most days becomes an expressive sap once you get more than two drinks in him.”
“Nah, it’s alright, I mean, there are worse drunks to have around,” Luke grinned, downplaying how out of character the headmaster was acting. He was having a great time getting to know Haley. There were a lot of people he got along well with since moving to Virginia, but something about Hotch’s wife clicked within him. Like a long-lost sister or middle school friend, he felt they could talk for hours and never be bored with one another. Perhaps it was the pleasantness that had caused Luke to miss the forlorn glances from a particular groundskeeper looming near the wine rack on the counter.
11:23pm
“Just use the master, through the bedroom,” Penelope insisted to Tara when she asked for a bathroom. It was awkward waltzing through her co-workers’ intimate spaces, but she had a feeling there were more than two people occupying the other bathroom and she did not have the patience for that wait. It was clear that Derek was wiggling his way into Penelope’s well-established space. The vibrant colors and hanging beads leading to the walk-in closet signature of the guidance counselor while the chest of drawers with minimal jewelry and cufflinks a hint of Derek’s masculine elegance.
She hadn’t realized someone had left the bathroom and caught her snooping. “It’s weird walking through their room, right?” Kate clucked as she lingered at a picture of Derek’s extended family.
“Completely… enthralling,” Tara held up a a particularly oddly knotted tie. “I’m not going to ask.”
“Good idea.” Kate hummed, her bright face more smiley than normal. “I’m having a blast! Are you having fun?”
“Yeah, I was in a mood earlier, but now I’m better.” Tara confided, they were standing in the near the door way, Kate leaning against Derek’s dresser while Tara stood nearly a foot taller than her.
“Oh? Anything the matter?” Kate’s caregiver instincts etched into her face.
“Nah, don’t worry about it.” Tara smiled, letting her friend’s features ease back.
“Uh-oh, looks like somebody still left up some Christmas decorations,” Kate giggled as she pointed to the sprig of mistletoe behind Tara’s head.
“I mean, it’s Penelope, that could be a year-round tradition for her,” Tara shrugged.
“Yeah, but I mean. It’s bad luck to not kiss under it, isn’t it?” Kate seemed overly concerned and as Tara knew the history of the poisonous plant she remained skeptical until Kate stepped over and stood directly beneath it.
“Are you serious? You want me to kiss you, just for luck?” Tara rolled her eyes as she turned to face the very curvaceous petite brunette.
“Duh!” Kate added, closing her eyes and lifting her jaw. Tara’s lack of inhibitions returned full force as her lips met Kate’s. Her hands cradled the nape of Kate’s neck as her mouth opened, if by surprise or pleasure Tara couldn’t be sure. But she did know that Kate was kissing her back, her nimble tongue darting against Tara’s.
“Uh, is anyone in the bathroom?” A voice broke the women apart, their faces burning and eyes locking on to the source.
11:52pm
“Holy crow, it’s almost midnight!” Penelope lept up from the couch where she had been nestled between Grant who had been sipping a massive glass of red and tucked beneath Emily’s reclining legs. Emily huffed as she had catch herself from falling off the couch with an uneven back arch and balancing act with the coffee table. The fact that she held it and sat comfortably back down on her end of the couch, earned her a few hoots and applause.
Penelope shuffled out of the heart of the party to gather the champagne and her midnight smooching companion. “Chocolate Thunder Assemble!”
“That doesn’t really work when you’re looking for one person,” Chris Callahan smiled casually from one of the bar stools.
“Hush!” Penelope pointed and shushed the large man. “Derek! I need thee! Oh, here you are! Pop the bottles, Hot Stuff. We got flutes to full, fill.”
“I’m at your service, Sweet Thing.” Derek purred, easily going down the row and letting the fizzy liquid to snake out of two of the four bottles they had bought for the twelve o’clock toast. They scrambled throughout their home doling out disposable cups and noise makers. Matt graciously changed the channel to the Times’ Square Countdown in NYC. Elle and Spencer were discreetly handed sparkling cider by a winking Derek.
Impeccably timed, Penelope snapped her 2018 headband on as she linked hands with Derek. They stood to the side, enjoying the view of their guests bunching together to chant the formidable countdown.

Spencer and Elle were bumping elbows and shoulders, knuckles and knees to each beat of the countdown like goofy kids.

Chris, Kate, Haley and Hotch all stood in a line pumping their fists as if it were a pep rally.

Tara sidled up to Matt as he looked like her best bet for a passing kiss at the buzzer.

“Happy New Year!” The room erupted as the year fell over, bringing hope and happiness in a haze of alcohol and incorrigible optimism. Across town many of their students were celebrating in much similar fashions, yet the teachers carried on, kissing cheeks and hugging one another as if this, truly, would be the best year of their lives. Penelope and Derek were the last to break for air, well, they thought they were.
After hugging everyone again, Penelope stumbled slack-jawed upon Luke and Grant locked in their own intense bubble. She cleared her throat; the room fell silent around the alarmed hostess.
“Uh-kem!” She tried again, prodding Luke’s shoulder forcefully with her fingertip. Dramatically slowly, Luke and Grant separated themselves, their clothes twisted at all angles from their torrid make out session. “Finally! Hugs, the both of you, c’mon!” She made grabby hands in the air as both men begrudgingly stood to give her a squeeze. Once sated she pushed them back together and started collecting empty plates and cups.
Soon the partygoers said their goodbyes, Matt volunteered to drive Grant and Luke, somewhere as neither one of them were quite sober. He paused before he slipped on his seatbelt to check his phone, finally at nearly twelve thirty he received the message he had been waiting for. He replied simply before tucking his phone back into his pocket. “Alrighty boys, whose place is closest?”
Back inside, Elle helped JJ sort through the pile of coats on Pen’s purple duvet.
“Can you believe what a difference a year makes?” JJ waxed philosophical, Elle’s face fell at the harsh reality of last New Year’s Eve.
“Hey, JJ?” Elle caught the blonde off guard as she pulled her hair out from the collar of her winter jacket.
“What’s up?”
“Look, I know what’s done is done. But, I’m really sorry I encouraged you last year, with the guy in the bar. I was miserable and was using you as a distraction from my own shit.” Elle exhaled. “What I’m trying to say is, I’m sorry, JJ. I know it worked out for you and Em in the end, but it shouldn’t have been like that. And some of that is on me.”
“And I wouldn’t have had Henry.” JJ countered. “Elle, I understand that making amends is one of your steps. But, there’s no amends to be made. I made my choices and I’ll continue to live with the consequences. Deal?”
Elle watched her friend closely, her fierce eyes burning with authority, but also a genuine sympathy. “Life is too short for holding on to past mistakes, Elle. I forgive you, but in the end, you have to forgive yourself.”
Elle nodded, letting the tears sting as she gave JJ a half smile. They fell into a gentle hug, friends that had countless moments between them and endless chances for more. Spencer knocked on the door jam when he found Elle and JJ embracing.
“Ready?” He asked simply, trying to hide the concern from his brow as the women chuckled away the tears.
“Yeah, let me just give Pen our best,” Elle smiled simply, leaving a peck on Spencer’s chiseled cheek. JJ and Spencer shared a look, he waved at her before turning to follow Elle out of the bedroom.
Jan 1, 2018 1:34am
“I can’t believe he is still asleep!” JJ shook her head after checking on Henry for the third time since coming home.
“Let him sleep, babe. We can enjoy the extra time to ourselves,” Emily was gently removing her signature heavy mascara, watching JJ in the mirror behind her.
“Who would have thought our world could change so much in a year?” JJ whispered into the hallway. Emily let the memories and confusion float through her thoughts, watching JJ process the same moments from her point of view. The guilt still haunted her, Emily could feel it when Will’s face shown on Henry’s features or when Elizabeth Prentiss made one of her wildly passive aggressive comments.
“From then until now, I wouldn’t change a thing, Jayge.” Emily held JJ’s hands in her own, trying to draw those cerulean irises to focus on her coffee-rich ones.
“And next year? Will we still be here? Together?” JJ asked, more burdens then Emily imagined weighted her words.
“If you’ll have me.” Emily said it simply and before she knew it. But she accepted her words as truth, buttoning her mouth from further confessions.
JJ’s interest was piqued, but instead of answering she laid her head on Emily’s shoulder, her lover’s arms encasing her exhausted form. They stood like that as long as JJ needed, Emily stroking her hair as she grumbled and sighed. Time passes and we either change or we get lost along the way, but Jennifer and Emily were doing it together whether they realized what a miracle they had started or not.
