aphids update

since i started posting aphids, nearly the entire thing has been written. and i really want to see it complete!!

its especially a bummer because i wanted to put out each chapter in 1 month, which i almost managed to complete with the first chapter by focusing on the grind but not quite, burning out hard before completing it. ive had the pages inked for months now, they just need some touchups to be released. it’s just mostly cus I got work and work exhausting. yah know how it is.

i want everyone to know every couple of weeks i look at my aphids writing and comics WIPs and go WOW. GODDAMN. THIS SHIT GOOD. there have been a few changes and additions i've made in the past few months: some of them are just gags, while others are super valuable and i think these additions help with expanding the story. they aren't things i would have realized quickly. things that have been added include two raps, one by dave and slam poetry by karkat, but more importantly pacing improvements. so that’s cool

currently im working a temp job but im TEMPted (haha) to take some time off work and visit my family if they don’t keep me on. im considering taking some time between jobs to really make some progress on Aphids or my other projects. like finishing explaining bugstuck versions of all castes. maybe answering those asks too. i got some neato fantrolls to post i just spend forever explaining the characters whenever i wanna post. 18. what are their dates like? how long do/did they date? do they ever feel the need to take a break from each other?

malarcade set aside a specific time every week for date night and whose turn it is to plan it rotates every time and theyre always trying to outdo each other. mals tend to be really exciting adrenaline rush or physical things (parasailing, amusement park, salsa dancing competition) or food-based (couples cooking, or in a modern au mal would be on the waitlist for every restaurant in town) whereas arcades are tamer and more classic date ideas, but he also really likes projects and stuff? they build decks and shelves and stuff all the time. and of course after every date they k*ss except by k*ss i mean FUUUUU

uhh they establish that they both. like-like each other sometime during the events of fnv but dont start dating per se until a couple months after. and then they move in after like a year. and then id like to think they just sort of keep going forever? had some thoughts here about them retiring out to louisiana.

yeah i mean i do think breaks are good for couples, but only when theyre paired w communication about what the problem is. mal. wanders sometimes he disappears for a few days and then comes back thats kind of just a part of who he is and god it stressed the fuck out of arcade. and its not like mals trying to get away from arcade specifically and if u asked him to explain why i dont think hed be able to. he just has to go sometimes and be alone out in the desert. and i think at the same time arcade can bury himself in work and research and sort of shut himself off and again its not like hes taking a break from mal hes taking a break from everything.

lihrus considers any activity that he does w aloth somewhere in the vicinity a date. they take a lot of walks. lihrus naps whenever he can so he’ll go in the bed on his side and nap and aloth’ll go on his and read and that counts as a date. they were honestly like an old married couple from day one of dating but not as in “haha they bicker so much haha husbands and wives hate each other” but as in they sit in rocking chairs and hold each others hands and smile

aloth had a big ol fuckin CRUSH on lihrus literally since poe1 and he just held onto it until deadfire so thats a year maybe two of pining?? ouch. anyway yeah i mean once they get together in deadfire theyre in it till the end

god no they wish they had MORE time together they almost never see each other bcos aloth is always in. some far off localé sleuthin and lihrus is in caed nua but god when aloth shows up its instant lihrus running across the field to jump on him and give him a kiss.

21. do they share any interests or hobbies?

malarcade both love to read and watch movies and stuff. also theyre really into helping ppl and arcade rlly likes the bigmt tech so they work on that together.

alohris like kites they love kites and they both have sweet tooths (sweet teeth?) (ok so i googled it and it is sweet tooths bcos the plural of a compound noun is formed by adding s, regardless of how you would normally pluralize the end part of the noun, ie. walkmans, not walkmen, toronto maple leafs not toronto maple leaves) (i just lost my train of thought for the alohris question so lets end it here)

35. do they bring out the best in each other, or the worst? do they have a fatal flaw?

idk if id be willing to say that mal and arcade ~bring out the best in each other~ but they absolutely make each other happy. thats important. im not answering the second part for either of them bcos i hate angst.

alohris absolutely bring out the best in each other!!!!!!!!!!!!!! theyre so good together i mean it theyre so important!!!!!!!

36. what’s their greatest strength as a couple? their weakness?

malarcades greatest strength is that they use enough combined hair dye to coat the entire continent and their greatest weakness is that theyre constantly doing each others root touchups and will thus never actualize their goals.

alohris’ greatest strength is that theyre both really short and could stack on top of each other and sneak into a movie theatre as one regular sized person for half price and their greatest weakness is that the relationship is quite literally doomed to end in tragedy aloth is either going to die young or watch lihrus’ watcher abilities slowly corrode his mind until he’s unable to recognize aloth or himself or anyone else and then he’ll turn violent and aloth will be forced to either kill him (directly or indirectly) or let himself be killed.
