Friendly reminder that you are not obligated to like or even feel strongly in any way about a certain character or ship in order to be considered a true fan of the piece of media that that character or ship belongs to. Even if that character is a main character, and even if the ship is canon.

#like I personally do love aang and think that he deserved so much better #than his character development and arc getting messed up by the second half of season three #but his fandom has the strangest rhetoric when they tell other people #that in order to be a true fan of atla you MUST be an aang stan #when that’s just not the case #you don’t have to ‘stan’ any one character in order to be a fan of the story the character belongs to #personally my favorite atla characters are zuko and katara #but I don’t believe that you MUST be a zuko stan and a katara stan in order to be a ‘true fan’ of atla #because I realize that different people may enjoy or not enjoy different parts of the show than me #and that’s perfectly fine as long as they express any opinions they have on the matter in posts that are tagged correctly #a character being a main character or even THE main character #does not make stanning or feeling strongly about the character #something you have to check off of a list in order to be considered a ‘true fan’ of the story the character is from #and even though aang is certainly a very very big part of the show #he is not the only character atla is about or focuses on #and I think it needs to be understood that you’re still a valid atla fan #regardless of if you stan or do not stan certain characters #same goes for ships #I’ve seen some Kataang shippers lately saying that it’s okay to be a Zutara shipper #only if you also love and kiss canon’s feet #and love Kataang as well and don’t criticize Aang or any parts of atla’s story that you feel were off #which is simply not true #Zutara shippers and shippers of any ship overall can love or hate or criticize or praise any characters they want to #they can criticize or praise canon or fanon as much as they would like to #they can praise any ship or criticize any ship as much they want to #they can do all of that as long as they tag correctly and aren’t actually hurting real people #aang fandom critical #kataang fandom critical #fandom salt #shipping
