Quarantine

You’d never wanted to be a housewife. You’d always been driven and you’d always worked hard and even though you loved being home, it really wasn’t somewhere you had ever wanted to work.

And then the pandemic happened, and not only were the classes of your final university year been cancelled and put online, but you’s also been laid off from he two jobs you worked in between classes and studying and spending time with your boyfriend. You knew realistically, you didn’t need to worry about rent or anything— you boyfriend had enough money and generosity to sweep in and take care of you. Hell, he practically lived in your shoebox apartment in Manhattan anyways.

Didn’t mean that you were happy with the situation.

So, you spent your days cleaning, and watching Tiktoks and learning the dances, and once you’d learned them all, sat down and watched all of your comfort movies three times before deciding that your favourite hobby was putting your headphones in, sitting on your fire escape and staring.

Yeah, the house smelled like bleach and you weren’t doing well.

The days melded into one long continuous time period, only interrupted by going to bed once the pink of the sunrise shone over the buildings and when your boyfriend would come home once every few days. You understood— hell, he was one of the most iconic people in history, and despite retiring from combat, still had obligations to the public and to his team, the Avengers.

Steve Rogers was a grumpy hero of a man and you loved the hell out of him, and he you. However, you’d been distant lately, dealing with the changing world and the circumstances only exasperated by a government who didn’t lead and he understood that. The trauma you were dealing with was not unlike when he’d woken up from the ice. You and millions upon millions of people were being shut in and kept out of touch with each other and the world around you with the knowledge that you’d be let out of your home and released into a completely different world— one which you didn’t know how to live.

He saw the sag in your shoulders and how your eyes were unfocussed and how the corners of your lips were almost always turned down save for the few days where you could put on makeup and brush your hair and maybe even put on jeans to feel something. You’d made loaves and loaves of bread that he would bring to the compound and have to explain that he had a friend who had just made too much and left them on his doorstep. You had yet to tell the team— his whole life was exposed to them constantly, and save for his three best friends, nobody knew about the grumpy, domestic soft couple that was Steve Rogers and YN YLN. Bucky, Sam and Natasha would make frequent stops and while it took a while for them to accept you, they eventually did (once they realized that you refused to let Steve pay for anything or post anything about him).

So, he walked down the hall and fiddled with the keys in his hand nervously— not knowing which mood he’d have to be dealing with today but willing to give you any form of comfort you needed today. Being immune to the virus was a blessing, he knew— he could still work and the compound had been locked down since late February, all staff who wished to stay did, and those who did not, returned to their homes with the promise of a job waiting for them when things finished.

He twisted the key into the apartment of your door and was met with the sweet and sharp smell of lemon clorox. You’d been cleaning, obviously. Every surface was sterile�� free of dust and any other blemishes. The floors were swept and mopped, and the windows were open, letting in the sounds of New York flow through the place he’d begun to call home. Walking into the kitchenette, he noticed that your sourdough starter had been moved, and that there was even a few new jars of pickles, onions and asparagus being fermented or pickled or whatever the new Quarantine Trend was.

“Princess?” He called, placing his keys on the counter and pulling off his jacket to throw over the back of the chairs pushed into the small kitchen table you two never ate at. Instead, he cocked his head at the thousand piece puzzle you both worked on when you had the patience, picking up a piece, squinting and placing it in its spot. He hunched over the table, not willing to commit and sit down, but stared at the picture hard, fingering through the pieces int he box and sighing though his nose.

“Fucking cats.” He cursed, frowning when he couldn’t find a spot to put the piece in between his fingers. You’d both done all the easy parts, and now it was trying to discern the blurry spots in the background and the melding of colours on the kittens tummy.

He jumped slightly when he felt your hands on his hips, wrapping around his torso and curling up over his chest, resting over his stuttering heart.

“Hi, Sweetheart.” He crooned, dropping the items in his hands and turning in your arms. He pulled you tight to his chest and rested his cheek on your wet, fresh smelling hair. Your t-shirt and leggings were slightly damp, you having just thrown on anything in a rush to see your guy.

“Hey, Stevie.” You mumbled into his shoulder and he nudged you until you lifted your head. When you did, his eyes roved your moisturized skin and the appearing freckles you were getting over your face from you time on the fire escape and in the sun. It was colder today, and he pulled you closer when you shivered at a particularly cold breeze that made the light curtains flap into your living room.

“You look fresh today. How’re you?” He asked, dipping his head and pressing his forehead to yours, noses brushing against each other. It was moments like these that he loved more than most. He could feel you shrug in his arms.

“You know.” You said offhandedly. “Life.” You’d long passed the point of explaining your feelings about everything to him— not wanting to rehash the same feelings of anger and fear and grief over and over again. He nodded and tilted his chin, pressing his soft lips against your own and sighing. His hand caressed your cheek and his thumb wiped your cheekbone as he kissed you slowly. The warmth that filled you at his tender touches was not unlike sun-warmed honey, filling every corner of your body. He pulled away too soon, and you chased his lips with your own, giving him one last slow kiss before wrapping your arms around the back of his neck and brushing the hair from out of his eyes. Sure, he may be an avenger, but not one single person in that building knew how to cut hair.

Not that you were complaining.

“I know.” He whispered, wishing with every fibre of his being that he could do just one thing that would ease the weight off of your shoulders.

“How was work?” You asked, pulling away to push the jars and bottles back against the wall of the counter, opening some lids before fastening them once more, not wanting any of the mason glasses to explode. He didn’t miss the way you would avoid his eyes when he talked about the outside world, or the monotonous tone you used when you asked the question.

“It was alright. Clint’s gone out to the country side to wait everything out with Laura and the kids. Tony’s gone too.” He said, opening the fridge to pull out the orange juice. “So all that’s left of the team is me, Nat, Sammy, Buck and Wanda. Also Peter brought this aunt to the compound, he wanted to get her out of the city and away from everything.” He hashed out and raised the carton to his lips, managing only two gulps before you slapped his arm and shoved a glass in his face.

“You’re an animal.” You joked half heartedly and he snorted, taking the glass. “So, May is living at the compound?” You asked, discreetly moving to the freezer and digging around for what you would want for supper.

“She is.” Steve confirmed, cocking his head and watching you nod your head.

“And Tony let her?”

“Well, she’s doing the two weeks of quarantine in her room which is on the opposite side of the guest floor. She basically has the whole floor to herself though.” He shrugged, lifting his chin and watching you react, just as the pieces were starting to click.

You hummed.

“You’d stay with me though.” He said over the lips of the glass in his hand. Your eyes shot to him and a blush dusted your cheeks slightly at being caught.

“Pardon?”

“I still have a room there, and I share my floor with Buck. Who is also immune to the virus, so you wouldn’t be stuck in the bedroom. You’d have a small gym, and a few balconies and a kitchen probably three times this size.” He said, nonchalantly. A smirk slowly spread across his face as he watched you look up at him from through your lashes before shaking your head and pushing him to the side so you could get some canned veggies from the pantry.

“You’d also have fresh food. That you wouldn’t have to go out and buy. You wouldn’t have to worry about running out of pasta, or canned food. You wouldn’t have to be in survival mode.” He crooned, coming up behind you and moving your hair to the side so he could pepper kisses over your shoulder and neck.

“We even have hand sanitizer and toilet paper.” He joked and you finally cracked, throwing your head back and laughing. You turned around and squeaked slightly when he picked you up and sat you on the counter. He shoved your legs open and wiggled his way in, resting his large hands against your hips.

“YN?” He ducked his head so you’d look at him. When you did, he offered you a small smile. “Wanna move in with me?” He whispered and you turned red. Sure, he’s been staying at your apartment a few nights a week, and sure, you’d been dating for a year, but because you were you, you’d always had a little twinge of doubt in your mind about whether or not he was being serious. Hell, you hadn’t even met everyone in his life yet- you’d never stepped foot in the compound for heavens sake.

“I don’t wanna be a bug, though.” You mumbled and he huffed before holding your face in his hands.

“You could never.” He affirmed, kissing your nose quickly and staring you down. “Buck loves you, and Nat adores you and Sam wants to be your best friend. You’re alone in this small ass apartment and I can’t help but worry about you. At least I have my people. You just got me and FaceTime with your family and my love, that’s not enough. I know it’s driving you insane.” He whispered and wiped the tears that welled in your eyes quickly.

“I don’t want to be in your way, or somehow make you associate me with work and then fall out of love with me and I know it’s stupid you don’t have to look at me like that. Plus, they’re starting to lift restrictions so—“

“You and I both know things are going to get worse before they get better.” He scorned and he tilted your face to look up at him. He pressed closer to you and you looped your fingers though the loops of his belt. He gave you a quick, open mouthed kiss before pouting his bottom lip.

“Please move in with me. I want you there. I want you out of the city and in my king sized bed and making a mess out of my balcony with your plants and gardens and I want to have movie nights with you and Buck and I want your stupid little Fermentation Station taking up Hal my counter. Please, baby girl. Come home with me.” He pouted, giving you his full puppy-dog eyes. You groaned, thumping your head against his hard shoulder.

“A king sized bed would be way better than that double bed.”

“The sheets are made out of such thin silk hey don’t even have a thread count.” He murmured and you groaned.

“I bet the pillows are those temperature regulating ones.” You hummed and he nodded, biting his lip.

“Fluffiest things you’ll ever rest your head on.” He kissed your neck and you giggled. “Wait until you see how thin the TV is.” He joked, and you played along, moaning.

“You don’t even watch TV on your laptop?” You gasped breathily. He nodded, biting his lip and your hand curled in the hair loosely at the base of his neck.

“How big?” You whispered and he leaned in, brushing his lips over yours as he spoke.

“82 inches. Surround sound.” He whispered, leaning down to pepper kisses over your throat.

“Oh, Lord take me now.” You yelled, throwing your hands into the air, making him laugh. He smiled down at you— you with new, bright eyes and an easy smile on your face from he idea of getting out of this small apartment and into Steve’s home.

“Seriously, come home with me. I can get a van and some people to get your things tomorrow if you want to pack a bag tonight.” He asked, his expression turning slightly nervous at your silence.

“I can pay for groceries—“

“I don’t even know where they come from. One day the fridge is empty the next day it’s full. I don’t pay for it and neither does Bucky.” He shrugged. “Seriously. Come on. I’m sure Bruce or Tony even have a job you could do if you get too bored.”

You perked up at the idea of working again and he rolled his eyes. “You wouldn’t make it in the 40’d you know.” He joked. “You work too hard.”

“Bite me, Rogers!” You pushed him away from you, jumping off the counter and leaving the kitchen.

“Don’t tempt me!” He shouted back and you laughed, walking across the room to where you’d planted your dresser. You grabbed a bag from under your bed (which was also in the living room) and began throwing clothes into it.

“You can bite me all you want when I’m stuck in your room for two weeks.” You joked, throwing a wink over your shoulder and making him groan under his breath. The idea fo you in his silk sheets, marked up and nowhere to go was a very welcome image he was almost 100% promised.

“You’re a minx.”

“And I’m your new roommate too!” You chirped and Steve, for once, welcomed the blush that crept up his neck and onto his face. Maybe, there was a silver lining to all this COVID bullshit.

I almost didn’t see him, that night in February as I soared high above the city, letting steam off. Someone was sitting on top of a building under construction, as they stared down at the street below. Red and blue sweatshirt. It baffled me because there was no way anyone should be able to get up there, and they didn’t look like a city worker. Plus, working construction alone at this time of night?

I descended just a little and wondered if I should put a mask on or just improvise. No mask. Whatever they’re doing up there, it’s something. Which means they won’t snitch. I landed on the other side of the roof, out of view, and tried to think of what to do next. Wings in. Close my fists. Easy steps.

“Hey?” Something nearly hit me, and I ducked just in time just as a ball of something splatted on the radiator behind me.

The voice took me by surprise, and I jumped, stumbling back against the HVAC units on the roof. “Jesus, dude,” I said. “I just wanted to know how you got up here. You scared me.”

“Willow?”

Oh, fuck. I recognized the voice, and the figure pulled off the homemade mask he was wearing. “Peter?” I asked. “What are you doing here? I-I didn’t know you could do that.”

“What… what… what are you doing here?” His voice got higher as he spoke, struggling to piece together the question.

“How did you even know someone was here? And what are you wearing?”

He patted his outfit self consciously and tucked his mask into his pocket. “Um. It’s a suit.”

“It’s a hoodie.” We stared at each other in silence for a moment, both of us without words. As the moon came out from behind a cloud, I noticed he had blood on his face. “What happened, man?”

“Um… I… tripped? I tripped.”

“I already used that excuse last month,” I said quietly, my mind racing. “Okay. No one can know about this—”

“Don’t tell anyone about this,” Peter pleaded at the same time. “Please. Not even Ned.”

I drew a shaky breath and sat down on the roof. The air stirred unnaturally, and I clenched my fists, even more, trying to steady myself as I hugged my knees into my chest. “Peter,” I said, staring at the ground. “Uh… there’s a lot I haven’t told you.”

He sat down next to me, leaning against a beam. “Me too.”

Neither of us wanted to talk first—I didn’t even know where to start, or how to start. How much do I say? How do I explain all this? Do I let him go first? Maybe he should go first. Just so I know—

“Um… remember a few months ago when I texted you and asked if we could hang really late that one night?” Peter started, jumping into it. “Yeah. That was when that started. I think the bite I got… changed me somehow.”

“You sure it’s not just puberty?” I asked, trying to make a joke, even though it sounded so stupid as soon as it left my mouth.

He laughed nervously. “Uh… I’m sure. I-I started sticking to the walls and ceiling,” he said. “Um… and I got stronger? Do things I was never able to do before. And it’s like my senses are dialed to a ten now, all the time.”

I can relate to that. “All from the bite?” I asked. “So, is that how you got up here? Wait, what was that stuff—"

“Web fluid,” he said. “I made it myself.” He rolled up his sleeve and showed me a device that extended onto his palm. “It’s really strong… you know… like…”

“… spider string… no… silk,” I finished. “Holy shit. And the suit?”

Even in the dark, I saw his face redden as he looked down sheepishly. “I’ve been helping people. Trying to help people. But I’m not very good at it yet. But Willow, you can’t tell anyone about this. My aunt would freak and—”

“Relax,” I said. “I’m not telling anyone.”

“Right. Cause you’re…”

“Here as well.”

“How?”

I sighed. “Peter… uh… what I’m about to tell you… you have to promise not to freak out and just… let me finish. Okay?” What’s the game plan here, Willow?

“I’m not going to freak out,” he said. “I promise. I mean, I just told you I’m Spider-Man—”

“Spider-Man?” I interrupted. “Is that what you’re going with?”

“Yeah?”

“What, like an alter ego?”

“Why not?”

“I don’t know. I guess I just never thought about that sort of thing before. Alter egos, I mean.” I picked at a hangnail and tried to decide what I was going to tell him. The truth? Part of the truth? Do I lie? I can’t lie, he just told me his secret. So, this was what he was hiding. “Um… I was born…” Why is this so hard? I stood up and paused one more time. “Promise me you won’t freak out?”

“Promise.”

I slowly extended my wings, not taking my eyes off my shoes, feeling sick, and as if I were overheating even in the cold. There’s no coming back from this. You can’t take this back. “…I was born like this.” I finally gained the courage to look up and search his face. He was curious and surprised, with his mouth opened and eyebrows lowered, but not weirded out. Of course, he’s not. He’s Peter. “And when I was six, I was taken to a place called the Facility. It was government-run, up until… HYDRA took over the project,” I said in an exhale, barely saying the word HYDRA.

“Oh. That’s bad, isn’t it?”

“Yeah. Um… they did a bunch of experiments on us there until I ran away last fall. And then I came here, to New York City. And met you guys.”

“I had no idea… how did you… is that why you always wore a jacket inside?”

I nodded and swallowed. “The thing is… they had us do stuff there… back at the Facility… things that I couldn’t control.” I gestured to my head. “They did… brainwashing? I hurt people, Peter. Lots, I think.”

“But you couldn’t help that. If they brainwashed you…”

I know. But I don’t know what’s brainwashing anymore and what’s just me. There it was. Both of our secrets out in the open, months of speculation put to rest. “Did you know?”

“I mean, after what you said to me that night, I knew something… wait does Kate know? Is that why she…?”

I nodded. “Not all of it. But enough. That night Marty died… she saw. It scared her. She said that…” I swallowed again, this time feeling the growing lump in my throat. I tried to push it away. “She said that she was scared. That I scared her. But maybe she was right.”

“No, Willow, you’re not scary.”

“You don’t know what I’ve done. Whatever you’re thinking, I promise it’s worse.”

“I don’t believe that.”

Neither did Marty.

We talked longer, late into the night. He explained how he had been developing the web fluid in chemistry class. I told him bits and pieces about what Marty had found and who had come after him. I told him that HYDRA was still looking for me, and that others were as well. “If they come for me, if I disappear,” I said. “Now you know. If that happens…”

“It won’t,” Peter said, his eyes wide. “It won’t happen.”

“But if it does, if anyone you don’t know asks about me… you have to tell me. Anyone. Government, SHIELD, HYDRA, police…”

“Police?”

“Just… please.” We devised a code to text to each other, something that even if I were being surveilled wouldn’t get picked up on. “What’s something you’d never say?” I asked.

“I don’t know… something like… are you going to the game tonight? Sports?”

“All right,” I said. “Texting that means we need to meet as soon as possible, in person. This roof can be the meetup spot. I’ll text back yes to confirm that I got the message, and then ask the time to meet before the game. Pick a time two hours after you want to meet and a random meeting location. So, if we said MSST at six at night, it would be here at four. And make sure to turn your phone off.”

“Are you sure all this is necessary?” Peter asked. “I mean, it’s cool, it’s like spy stuff, but…”

“Marty died,” I reminded him, feeling the familiar anger as I ruminated on the injustice of it all. I never asked for this. Marty never asked for this. And now Peter… “I’m not losing anyone else because of me,” I said. “If someone comes asking about me, that’s a code red. So, text me something like will you be at decathlon on Saturday?”

“We… don’t meet on Saturdays.”

“Exactly. And I’ll know to get the hell out.”

Peter tapped his fist against the palm of his other hand as he thought. “Okay. Same goes for me.”

“Deal.”

Peter told me more about his new abilities as the night wore on, about the people he had saved in our neighborhoods. He seemed so excited to be able to share it with someone. I tried to give him a few pointers so that I wouldn’t get beat up so bad next time he confronted someone, and Peter asked me about what it was like to fly. For a moment, I was softened, a little piece of my heart worming its way out of the shell I had built around it in the last few months, before I pushed it back in, where it belonged. Opening up to Peter helped, but I was now more worried than ever. Worried about him, and myself. Mostly him. I can’t afford this. I have to finish this mission I’m on. I can’t, I can’t, I can’t.

Today is the 18th day of January, welcome to the Daily Audio Bible I’m Brian it's great to be here with you today as we end a…end a week. This is actually…I’m looking at a calendar…this is the third weekend of this new decade. I guess I hadn't realized that until just now. Nevertheless, we have set sail. We have moved all the way here 18 days on our journey and we will continue that journey today. We’re reading from the Christian Standard Bible this week, which is today, and we have been working our way through the stories of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, whose name became Israel. And now we’re going to pick up the story of Israel and Jacob's son Joseph. So, today Genesis chapters 37 and 38.

Prayer:

Father, we thank You for Your word and we thank You for another complete week together in Your word and starting to feel the rhythm of the year now, this new decade upon us, starting to settle in, which is one of the words that we spoke of this year. And, so, we ask that You help us to do that, to find within ourselves, amidst all of the disruption that the Bible can bring to us, that what's really happening here is that what's false is being shaken. And sometimes we didn't even know it was false until it's exposed. But there is the truth deep within us where You live where the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells and this place is true and we want to learn about this place within us, because this is the place that Your word speaks to. And, so, come Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth. This is the promise the Scriptures give us, and we believe that You will. Lead us on the narrow path that leads to life. Come Holy Spirit we pray. In the name of Jesus, we ask. Amen.

So, one of the rhythms that become apparent is that we’re a community that's actually incredibly loving, incredibly accepting. Like everybody knows that we’re in this together and we’re all…like…we’ve decided to try to live in the truth, like Jesus is demonstrating for us, which means that…that we accept each other on…on the journey that were on knowing that we’re sharing some history together. And the best thing we can do is love one another, pray for one another, encourage one another. And, so, you know, that's…that's the Prayer Wall and that's the prayers that come in at the end every day. So, you know, kinda like a little bit of a discombobulated conversation, discussing all these things, but I think that's really, I wanted to say is stay connected. That makes all the difference in the world on a journey like this. So, stay up to date and stay connected.

Hi, this is Candace from Oregon. I love you Daily Audio Bible. Have I told you that lately? And Brian and Jill thank you so much. Oh Lord that none of us ever take for granted this amazing situation. I want to thank Rachel from Pennsylvania and everyone else who’ve been praying for me and my household. We were under terrible attacks. Starting in November, it went on all the way into January and made…the holidays were good…but this was sort of underlying it and very stressful. I think it’s much better now. Please pray. January 28th, I have a beloved in law who might…who has to go to court and might end up doing some jail time. So, please pray that whatever is the best thing for this dear one will occur, be that jail time or not and that the judge and everyone he has to interact with will know how to point him in the right direction. Lord have your way. Also, please for my February 8th piano recital, that all the students will do well and that the whole experience of taking these lessons will be part of drawing them into a relationship with the Lord Jesus. Good morning Daily Audio Bible family this is Carla Jean from Las Vegas calling today asking you to pray for my son Noah. He’s 23 years old and has been fighting a spiritual battle most of his life. I keep thinking that God must have great plans for this boy for him to be so pursued by Satan. He’s 23 and he contacted me yesterday in the middle of an anxiety attack and we Facetimed for an hour trying to get him to seek help. He lives in a different state and he’s afraid because he has no health insurance and I told him I don’t care, just get the help you need, and I will take care of it financially. I’ve asked him if he wants me to come to him and he does not want me to go there. He is a sweet boy and I’m just…am asking you to storm heaven with me. Matthew 8:16 said many who were demon possessed were brought to him and He drove out the spirit with a word and healed all the sick. That’s my prayer for my son Noah and I’m praying for all of you who are fighting spiritual demons right now. May the Lord grant us all peace. Amen.

Some skim the surface while others dig deep yet both of them say Your commandments they keep one says confess and believe in your heart and you shall be saved you’ll have a new start and nothing and no one can take that away salvation is yours, whatever may but then the other one says action speaks louder than words and faith without works is just air for the birds if God is in your life then there should be some change all things are new if they’re not something strange but both of them say that Christ is the way that judgment is coming and you should trust and obey but yet and still both of them put others down including each other the cycle just goes round vicious in nature and not from our God which they both claim to represent which really seems odd traditions and customs leading to sin the Sadducees and Pharisees all over again what will it lead to where will it end misleading the children of God is a terrible sin though not by intention for they too are deceived but that original serpent also fooled Eve some skim the surface while others dig deep yet both of them say your commandments they keep

Hello sweet DABber family this is Trusting Father in South Carolina. It is Sunday the 12th about 4 o’clock in the morning and I’m a five-year listener, this is my second time calling in, the first time being about a year and a half ago when my daughter had an affair. Since then she divorced and went into another relationship, a real bad relationship and from that she is pregnant, and we have a precious little baby boy on his way in April. But also, in her family she has two other little boys, one is five and the other soon to be three and I’m asking prayer for her. She…I don’t even know how to put it into words, but she is…she is very confused. She is in a high-powered job and, you know, before she went into her affair, she and her husband were…you know...they like to party and…and I’m…I just…I don’t even know. I feel like her…she’s just messed up mentally, emotionally, physically and, of course spiritually. So, I need to also tell you this, that I have a son who’s an alcoholic and a recluse and he’s 34 years old and we have another daughter who’s been in a 10 year relationship with another woman and my husband has been depressed before we were even married when where we are age 19 and 20. So, it has been very intense here, especially lately. And I want to, I don’t know, I just felt very led to reach out just ask for your prayer and I’m just so grateful in knowing that Father’s faithful. And thank you so much.

Hello this is Duncan from Fredericksburg Texas. I’ve tried…I’ve been on here once at least, I know that. For the lady in South Carolina whose sister is…is in...is in ICU let me pray right now. Oh Father so many hurting people and there are many listening to this who are broken and hurting and at various stages of grief, various stages of anger, various stages of anything that’s not good. Father, I know I’ve been in…I’m still…the post-holiday __ or hardships of life are…are sometimes harder to deal with and especially Father for those of us who have lost loved ones as I have lost my wife back in October. Father just take care of…of this gal, just please touch her and heal. Father just raise up people, more people who will love her back…back to health. Father, I believe that can be done with encouragement and father with being ministered to and I just ask you to do that for this lady who is suffering from bipolar and is in the ICU. And for…I cannot remember names, so many of them. So, just take care of them Jesus. Thank you. Amen. And now, just for me. I request, I am a pianist, I am…just happened to be totally blind but that doesn’t stop me. I’m 73 years old that does not stop me either. Johnny Depp's 7 Biggest 'Rolling Stone' Revelations: From Depression to How Much He Really Spends on Wine

Johnny Depp is opening up in a big way in a candid new interview with  Rolling Stone magazine, in which the 55-year-old actor addresses his highly publicized legal battles over his finances and reports of his extravagant spending.

Writer Stephen Rodrick was invited to spend time with Depp at his rented mansion in London, England, where the conversation also turned to his complicated relationships with close family and friends, as well as a serious struggle with depression due to problems both in his personal and financial lives.

1. Depp is very much open about his drinking and smoking

Rodrick describes entering Depp's rented mansion and feeling his presence immediately.

“He is here in the stogie-size joint left by the sink in the guest bathroom. He is here in the never-ending reservoir of wine that is poured into goblets," he observes.

During their first meeting, Rodrick writes that "Depp sits at the head of the table and motions towards some rolling papers and two equal piles of tobacco and hash, and asks if I mind. I don't. He pauses for a second. 'Well, let's drink some wine first.' This goes on for 72 hours."

Depp also isn't shy about his history of using drugs. Later in the interview, when talking about one of his idols, writer Hunter S. Thompson, he regrets quaaludes no longer being around and recalls the bootleg quaaludes he used to take.

"They're made with just a little bit of arsenic or strychnine, so the high was far more immediate," he explains. 

Depp then recalls once asking a Florida bouncer to punch him while on quaaludes for no reason.

"You either wanted to smile and just be happy with your pals, or f**k, or fight," he says of being under the influence.

2. He has complicated relationships with his family

Depp talks extensively about his late mother, Betty Sue, in the interview, who died in 2016 after a long battle with cancer. The actor reveals the first thing he bought when he started making money was a small horse farm for his mom in Kentucky, where she was born.

"My mom was born in a f**king holler in eastern Kentucky," he says. "Her poor f**king a** was on phenobarbital at 12."

Though he clearly loved his mother, he also claims they moved 40 times growing up and that she would sometimes give him "irrational beatings."

"Maybe it's an ashtray coming your way. Maybe you're gonna get clunked with the phone," he says. "It was a ghost house -- no one talked. I don't think there was ever a way that I thought about people, especially women, other than 'I can fix them.'"

"Betty Sue, I worshiped her," he continues, before adding, "She could be a real b***h on wheels."

At her 2016 funeral, Depp recalls saying, "My mom was maybe the meanest human being I have ever met in my life."

As for his other siblings, Depp -- who's the youngest of four -- tells the magazine that one of his sisters and her husband and son moved to his mother's farm in Kentucky and were hired to manage the property, but their spending allegedly became out of control. After his mother died, the family still lives there.

"Their thinking is that I'm going to take care of them forever and that the farm is now theirs," he says. "I didn't make that promise."

The magazine also notes that Depp's close relationship with his sister, Christi, who was once a constant in his life and managed his day-to-day affairs, became strained when she was opposed to his 2015 marriage to Amber Heard. 

"Depp’s last constant connection with the real world was severed," Rodrick writes.

3. He actually spent more than $30,000 a month on wine

Depp's former business associates filed a countersuit against the actor last February, after the actor filed a lawsuit in mid-January against The Management Group (TMG) and its associates for allegedly defrauding him and mismanaging his money. Among Depp's alleged extravagant expenses they claimed they warned him about was spending $30,000 a month on wines flown to him from around the globe.

Depp proudly admits the number is actually higher.

“It’s insulting to say I spent $30,000 on wine,” Depp says. “Because it was far more."

Depp also addressed the claim that he paid a sound engineer so he could feed him lines through an earpiece while filming, explaining that it was actually sounds that were fed to him, which he says allowed him to be a better actor.

“I’ve got bagpipes, a baby crying and bombs going off,” Depp shares of the sounds. “It creates a truth. Some of my biggest heroes were in silent film. It had to be behind the eyes. And my feeling is, that if there’s no truth behind the eyes, doesn’t matter what the f**king words are.” 

As for the allegation that he spent $3 million to blast Thompson’s ashes out of a specially-made cannon?

"By the way, it was not $3 million to blast Hunter out of the f**king sky," he says. "It was $5 million."

And it appears that Depp's lawsuit against TMG isn't going to be resolved anytime soon.

"I have never, ever been in my life the bully kid," he notes. "I never went out of my way to hurt anybody. When I was a little kid, what I was taught was never start a f**king fight, but if somebody f**king tags you or starts invading your f**king world, finish the f**king fight. To my mom's exact words, 'lay them out with a f**king brick.'"

4. He became depressed over his financial issues and personal life

Depp says that after his divorce from Heard and his lawsuit, he became severly depressed. 

"I was as low as I believe I could have gotten,” he says. “The next step was, ‘You’re going to arrive somewhere with your eyes open and you’re going to leave with your eyes closed.’ I couldn’t take the pain every day.”

He says he then went on tour with his band, The Hollywood Vampires, and started writing a memoir on an old manual typewriter, like Thompson. 

“I poured myself a vodka in the morning and started writing until the tears filled my eyes and I couldn’t see the pages anymore,” he tearfully says. “I kept trying to figure out what I’d done to deserve this. I tried being kind to everyone, helping everyone, being truthful to everyone.” 

“The truth is most important to me," he adds. "And all this still happened.” 

5. He was extremely close to Tom Petty

Depp reveals he had a close friendship with the late Tom Petty, who died in January of an accidental drug overdose.

The actor says they used to frequently speak on the phone, and has clearly been hit hard by his death. 

“We’d call each other and ask, ‘Hey, you still smoking [nicotine]?’ Depp recalls. “Tom would go, ‘Yeah, I’m still smoking.’ And I’d feel better: ‘Well, if Tom is still smoking, I’m OK.’” 

“I loved him,” he continues after a pause, shedding tears.

Later, he also laments the deaths of Thompson and Marlon Brando, and the loneliness he now feels.

"Marlon and Hunter. I needed my guys," he says.

6. He supported Penelope Cruz while they filmed Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Cruz reveals to the magazine she told Depp that she was pregnant right before shooting 2011's Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and contemplated dropping out. She says Depp opposed. 

“He protected me every day, and by the end, I was six months pregnant,” Cruz says. “I’ll never forget that.” 

"I imagine Johnny doing a version of Jack Sparrow at 70, or 80,” Cruz also muses, referencing his iconic Pirates character. “It will be as charming and as great.”

7. He has plenty of thoughts on Harvey Weinstein

Depp recalls his interaction with the disgraced movie mogul, calling him an "a**hole" and a "bully" when he worked with him and director Jim Jarmusch on 1995's Dead Man. 

“Have you seen his wife? It’s not a wide range," he also comments. "It’s not like he went, ‘I must go to the Poconos to find some hairy-backed b***h.’”

Still, he recalls a more tender side to Weinstein, when he witnessed him picking up his daughter from school.

"The image that took my breath away was Harvey Weinstein, a goliath Shrek thing, bending down to put on his daughter's raincoat," he shares.

Earlier this month, some fans became concerned about Depp after photos of him in Russia were shared on social  media, in which they commented that he looked "thin." However, an insider told ET that Depp, who is currently on tour with The Hollywood Vampires, is doing fine.

“Johnny is healthy and is enjoying his time on the road with his band,” the source said.

ET spoke to Depp last May, when he gushed about his 19-year-old daughter, model Lily-Rose Depp. Watch below:

Synopsis

The Carters go to Las Vegas to see the shows, but Lucy loses all their money in a gas station slot machine. On their way home they discover a stray pony and return him to the owner, who turns out to be singer Wayne Newton. The Carters take jobs as Newton's ranch hands to make enough money to return to Vegas.

He is one of the best-known entertainers in Las Vegas, known by the nicknames the ‘Midnight Idol,’ ‘Mr. Las Vegas’ and ‘Mr. Entertainment.’ His well-known songs include 1972’s “Daddy, Don’t You Walk So Fast” (#4 on the Billboard chart), “Years” (1980), and his signature song “Danke Schoen” (1963). This is his final episode of “Here’s Lucy.”

Jerry Newton (Himself, Guitarist, right) is the older brother of Wayne Newton.  He also appeared in 1968’s “Lucy Sells Craig to Wayne Newton” (S1;E9).

Jerry’s catch phrase is “Oh, gosh yes.”  Although Wayne Newton calls him by his first name, it is never mentioned that the two are brothers.

Tommy Amato (Himself, Bass Player, left) was a bandleader and Wayne Newton’s bass player. He also appeared in 1968’s “Lucy Sells Craig to Wayne Newton” (S1;E9).

Amato is not identified by name in the dialogue.

Tiny Tim (T.T.) is an Angolan miniature horse from South America.  

This is the second and last episode for director / actor Danny Dayton, who also was director of “Lucy Protects Her Job” (S2;E14). 

The final draft of this script by Josefsberg and Singer was dated October 1, 1969.

Following the original broadcast of this episode, “The Doris Day Show” featured ‘Lucy’ supporting players Bobby Jellison, Mabel Albertson, and Hal Smith. 

This episode is filmed on location in the San Fernando Valley. Second unit footage of the Las Vegas Strip featured doubles for the cast. The in-car driving scenes were done using a studio process shot.  

In his introduction to the episode on DVD Wayne Newton recalls that this episode nearly caused a rift between him and Lucy due to the demands of the production.  

Musical Director Marl Young takes over the introduction and enthusiastically recalls writing the jazz background music for the montage of the drive down the Las Vegas strip. Young mistakenly calls “Gary Morton” and “Gale Gordon” “Gary Martin” and “Gale Garden.”

Caesars Palace – opened in August 1966 and is still operating today.  The marquee headliner is Frank Sinatra with Little Richard with the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.  

La Concha - was a motel that opened in 1961 and closed in 2004. The sign is restored and preserved in Las Vegas's Neon Museum. It was named after the resort community of La Concha, Spain. It was neighbors with the Riviera, which is in the background. 

Stardust – was located at 3000 Las Vegas Boulevard South. It was first opened in 1958 and demolished in 2007. The famed Stardust sign became one of the symbols of Las Vegas. The entertainment roster featured with the spectacular French production show Lido de Paris.

International - opened in 1969 and was known for many years as the Las Vegas Hilton, then briefly as the LVH - Las Vegas Hotel and Casino. It was renamed the Westgate Las Vegas in 2014. Upon opening, the International was the largest hotel in the world. The headliner at the time of the filming of the footage was Bill Cosby with Lionel Hampton. Interestingly, the International boasts the opening of a Children's Youth Hotel!  

Sands - was a historic hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip that operated from 1952 to 1996. The Sands was the seventh resort to open on the Strip. During its heyday, the Sands was the center of entertainment and hosted many famous entertainers of the day, most notably the Rat Pack. The Sands was featured in “Lucy Hunts Uranium” in 1958 (inset).  

Flamingo – opened the day after Christmas 1948 and is still operating today. It is located at 3555 South Las Vegas Boulevard. The hotel was the third resort to open on the Strip and remains the oldest resort on the Strip still in operation today. The headliner at the time was comedian Pat Paulsen.  

Frontier - was the second resort that opened on the Las Vegas Strip and operated continuously from October 1942 until it closed on July 16, 2007 and was demolished. It has the distinction of hosting Elvis Presley's first Vegas appearance in 1956, and the final performance of Diana Ross and The Supremes on January 14, 1970. At the time of filming singer Abbe Lane and comic Dick Shawn were headlining. Shawn guest starred in “Lucy and the Pool Hustler” (TLS S6;E13) in 1968. At one time, Abbe Lane was married to Xavier Cugat, Desi Arnaz's mentor and Ricky Ricardo's competition.

Thunderbird – was located at 2735 Las Vegas Boulevard South and operated from 1948 to 1992.  It was the fourth resort to open on the strip and had a Native American theme that featured a Navajo-based restaurant, the only bowling alley ever on the Strip, and a showroom. The marquee here promotes a stage production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's 1958 Broadway musical Flower Drum Song starring Jack Soo, who had also been in the 1961 film adaptation. Interestingly, the Thunderbird wooed gamblers with the promise of 'Free Nylons with  Jackpots'! From 1976 the property was known as the Silverbird and then, finally, El Rancho.

Bonanza – opened in July 1967 on land formerly occupied by Three Coins Hotel and Casino. It was later renamed the New Bonanza Hotel and Casino. In 1973 it became part of Bally's Las Vegas. It is not connected to the Bonanza Gift Shop, a landmark store on the Strip and one of the largest such establishments in the word.

Riviera - operated from April 1955 to May 2015. It was the first high-rise and the ninth resort on the Las Vegas Strip. Liberace cut the opening ribbon, and became the first resident performer.  The building was demolished in 2016.

The only sign that is missing from the montage is the iconic “Welcome To Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada” sign that is now visually associated with the gambling town. 

Craig notices that Dean Martin is playing at the Riviera. Desi Arnaz Jr. was in a band with Martin's son. Kim says “He's one of my favorites!”  Martin guest starred as himself (and his doppelganger) on “The Lucy Show.” His opening act at the Riviera is comedienne Totie Fields, who will act on a 1972 episode of “Here's Lucy.” In 1975, she was one of the comics to roast Lucille Ball on “The Dean Martin Celebrity Roast.”  

Harry's 1970 yellow Plymouth Satellite convertible was previously seen in “Lucy and Viv Visit Tijuana” (S2;E19).  

Also during the driving scene, the background shows a marquee for P'zazz '70, a lavish stage show at the Desert Inn Hotel and Casino, in operation from 1950 to 2000. The show started out as P'zazz '68 and was updated.  

Their drive down the Strip also takes them past The Castaways casino, where Cotton Club Revue 70 is playing. The above snapshot was taken in September 1969, around the same time as filming. Castaways operated from 1963 to 1987, when it was imploded to make way for the Mirage. In 1967, the Castaways was sold to billionaire Howard Hughes for $3 million as part of his spree of buying Las Vegas properties.  Coincidentally, the reclusive millionaire is also mentioned in this episode.

CRAIG (to Harry): “If you didn’t come to Las Vegas to see shows, what did you come for?” LUCY: “He came to kiss Howard Hughes’ ring.” 

The foursome encounter a miniature horse on the side of the road but don't know exactly what sort of horse it is. Lucy says she can't imagine John Wayne sitting on it; Mickey Rooney, yes. John Wayne appeared on both “I Love Lucy” and “The Lucy Show” while Mickey Rooney starred with Ball in Thousands Cheer (1943) and as an acting teacher on a 1966 episode of “The Lucy Show.”  

Wayne Newton purchased the first five acres of what is now Casa de Shenandoah in 1966. It was raw land, with no well or electricity. The first house was built between 1966 and 1968, along with four stalls for a horse barn. He lived in that home with his parents and older brother. He then acquired additional acres between 1969 and 1972. Construction of the Mansion began in 1973 and was completed in 1976. Today, Casa de Shenandoah is one of the top tourist attractions in Las Vegas.  

Although the episodes were by different writers, Newton and the Carter family remember meeting each other in 1968 (above). Newton remembers Harry because when they first met he asked for two choruses “Hey Big Spender” (which didn’t actually happen in the episode). The song is by Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields and was written for the Broadway musical Sweet Charity in 1966 and was included in the 1969 film starring Shirley MacLaine.  

Lucy's qualifications for working on a ranch are that she saw every Gene Autry picture three times. Gene Autry (1907-98) was a Texas born motion picture star dubbed “The Singing Cowboy.”  

Wayne Newton shares that is half Cherokee. Craig says that means he is “one of the original Americans.” Awareness of the plight of Native Americans was heightened during the late 1960s. “Lucy and the Indian Chief” (S2;E3) was shot on location on Navajo land using Native American tribe members for extras.

At the barbecue, Newton sings “Tumbling Tumbleweeds” accompanied by Jerry on guitar and Tommy on bass. Kim and Craig sing back-up while Lucy and Harry look on. “Tumbling Tumbleweeds” is a song by Bob Nolan and sung by Gene Autry in a 1935 film of the same name. In 1970 it was covered by Don Everly.  

When Newton says that Kim and Craig have “good seats” (ie; ride horses well), Lucy misunderstands and nonchalantly admits to having “paddled” Kim and Craig!  Yikes! 

Lucille Ball was an experience rider, having ridden horses in her films and television shows, but here (at age 59) leaves the riding to her children. She does, however, help Harry rope a calf for branding, but only manages to brand Harry instead!

Lucille Ball wears tinted glasses for the exterior shoots, just as she did the previous year on location at the Air Force Academy at the start of season 2. These lenses allow viewers to still see Lucy’s expressive eyes, but also provide protection from the sun’s rays. 

Lucie and Desi Jr. were sent to horse trainer Glenn Randall to learn how to ride the dancing horses used for the episode's finale. Randall famously trained Trigger, Roy Rogers' horse.

Lucie Arnaz later recalled, “We would drive two-hours in rush-hour traffic all the way up to this mountain where we get on with this horse dressage and learn from scratch how to ride so that we could do that show with Wayne Newton. I mean stuff like that just blows my mind."

For the finale, Wayne sings "I've Got the World on A String" by Harold Arlen and Ted Koehler written in 1932. The song was made popular by Frank Sinatra. Wayne performs this song while on his dancing horse. Kim and Craig are also on dancing horses that perform while he sings.

What Happens in Vegas....

A quick subliminal callback happens in the very first moments of the episode, when Harry’s car drives past the Las Vegas Tropicana. Their sign is only briefly seen from behind [I’ve reversed the image on the left] while the focus is on the Caesar’s Palace marquee. Desi Arnaz borrowed the name from the original Tropicana nightclub in Havana for Ricky Ricardo’s club on “I Love Lucy.” Ironically, the Las Vegas casino hotel opened in 1957, just after Ricky changed the name to Club Babalu. It is still in business today. 

Lucy Ricardo was in Las Vegas for “Lucy Hunts Uranium” (1958, above) hunting for her fortune in the Nevada desert rather than the casinos. The Sands, whose sign is seen in the opening montage of “Lucy and Wayne Newton”, is where Ricky Ricardo performed and the gang stayed during the episode. Location footage featuring the cast was shot in the California desert while a second unit team and cast doubles were filmed in Las Vegas. Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz were invited to the Sands' fourth anniversary party in 1956.  

Lucy and Ricky Ricardo were also in Vegas for “The Lucy-Desi Milton Berle Special” in November 1959 on NBC. 

Lucy Carmichael and Viv won a trip to Sin City in “Lucy Goes to Vegas” (TLS S3;E17) where being broke doesn't stop them from being high rollers.

In 1975, Lucy Collins traveled to the Nevada gambling town to meet her celebrity crush, Dean Martin, in “Lucy Gets Lucky”, which also begins with a montage of the Strip, ending on the exterior of the MGM Grand, where the action is set. 

“Lucy Discovers Wayne Newton” (TLS S4;E14) also was set on Newton's farm and also featured a horse, although not shot on location.  

The rear-projection shot of the cast driving down the Las Vegas Strip is visually similar to the now iconic image of the Ricardos and the Mertzes driving across the George Washington Bridge in “California, Here We Come!” (ILL S4;E14), which was the first process shot used on television.  

Deja View! As with most rear projection process shots, the Harry’s car passes the same Las Vegas Strip landmarks several times as the scene goes on. 

BYOB (Bring Your Own Bass)!  Kim surprises everyone by asking Wayne Newton to sing. It is convincing enough that Newton’s brought along his guitar, to a picnic by the river, but it seems a stretch that Tommy has packed his upright bass!

Children & Animals! Working on location with live animals causes a few overlaps in dialogue and a few skillful ad libs by the cast. 

Ouch! Talking of the unpredictability of animals, when Harry chases the calf around the pen, Gale Gordon smashes into the barn wall with his right shoulder. Like the trouper he is, Gordon continues the scene! 

Stunt Roper?  When the script has Harry lasso Lucy instead of the calf, the camera goes in for a medium shot of Lucy, with Harry off screen for when the lasso lands around her. It may be that after several attempts, Gale Gordon allowed a more skilled roper to throw the rope around Lucy and then walks into the shot. There is a definite scene change for when Lucy and Harry have (supposedly) subdued the calf in order to brand him. Gale Gordon (63) and Lucille Ball (58) are obviously winded from the scene, but are definitely doing most of their own stunts with the live (and lively) calf.

Well well well look who’s back at her tumblr diary. I’m not sure if this is a good or bad thing because the last time I started this diary was when I was 21, about to go through a pretty serious break up, starting to get out of a pretty serious depression, going through a solid 7 months of being a glorified alcoholic, and then graduating college. You could say there was a lot going on.

First off, I just read my previous most from nearly FIVE YEARS AGO!!! And the frightening thing was.... not a lot has changed. I still kinda feel the same way it sounds like I did in that post. A lot of my friends here in Syracuse are also really busy and have a lot going on and are too busy for me. I don’t really feel as bad about it now as I used to be because we’re all adults now going through adult stuff and it’s hard to make time for people.

I should do a little summary as it’s been a minute. So since I last posted on here, I graduated college (!!!) and then started studying for the CPA exam for the better part of 2 years but I finally got it done. Brodie and I got an apartment together and spent a year there having a FUCKING BLAST until he unfortunately lost his job in Cuse and moved down to DC. After B left, our friend Tristan took over his lease which ended up being fate or destiny or whatever because he ended up meeting my friend Liz from HS and those two crazy kids hit it off and almost 3 years later they’re engaged!! Life man. About 1 year and a half after Tristan moved in, we both moved out of the legendary apartment 4K to get our own places. Since then I’ve had a cute little studio apartment downtown. I also ended up getting a cat who I found in the parking garage across the street from my place. I started my job at a local accounting firm the December after graduating college and have now been with them for over 4 years and I still love it. The work is tiring and never ending but the people keep me going. My bosses continue to be awesome badass women and I really like it.

As for love life, boys have come and gone. There was a run in with Brian #1 that ended up with me finding out he had a girlfriend after we slept together and me pouring a drink on his head in a public place. Its probably the most bad ass thing I’ve done. There was also Brian #2 who I think was the closest I’ve come to actually dating someone and I’ve blocked a lot of that out of my memory because he basically ghosted me to get back with his ex and then 6 months later I found out he gave me chlamydia. I’m just starting to realize that both of those guys have left me with some trust issues that I’m trying to get over. There’s been hook ups here and there but those are the main two to know about. Stay away from brians.

Well my dear ex mike and I did stay friends for a while until he met his new fiance K (I dont want to include her name here as I dont know her and have nothing against her). Mike basically stopped talking to me after he and K started dating. Then I Iowkey crashed Johanna’s wedding with Terry (Terry and Jo got married btw!!!!!) where Mike was forced to say I couldnt crash with him and Mike and keenan bc MIKE AND K ARE ENGAGED!!!! which is the story of how johannah had to deal with mike and my 5 year old relationship baggage the night before her wedding. But the weekend made me realize how fucking condescending Mike can be. So I made it so he doesnt show up in my social media feed and its been a lot better for me but still messed me up a bit.

Other random highlights are going to france with geneseo alumni (fucking AWESOME!!! and WES WAS THERE!!!) oh and I went to ireland the summer after graduation!!! again!! fucking awesome!!

Well that p much gets us to today. Today is valentines day. Well technically there’s 13 minutes left. I go through phases where I feel perfectly content with my life. I like living by myself, just me and bean. living downtown and going out to grab drinks with friends. the occasional late summer night where you close the bars and grab pizza and stay at a friends apartment until 4am.  Then there are times where I just feel so dreadfully alone. I feel like the only people who understand me live hours away (brodie, erin, jen, amanda). journal, I’m going to six weddings next year. S I X. and 5 of them are people my age. I never expected to marry thing young, let alone meet ~the one~ but when this many of your friends are either dating or engaged or living together, you start to feel like there;s something wrong with you. celeste often gives me shit for lamenting about how single i am and puts herself in the same boat. But she had guys FALLING OVERTHEMSELVES for her. like i just thought of 4 or 5 in the brief 10 seconds i sat here. Even n**l is so obsessed with her that he ruined their friendship bc she kissed a random guy on NYE (full disclosure, he’s trash and sexist and we dont like him this isnt me being jealous) it is just me pointing out that she tends to always be the one being pursued. and I am the faithful hype man. giving her advice on what to say to them. If her outfit looks good. if she should go over. Celeste does all the same help for me, don;t get me wrong. but it usually ends up working out for her and she’ll get a date or two out of it. i rarely even get a text back. It really put it into perspective when she was livid that a guy wouldnt respond to her in a timely manner. Meanwhile Im here like “wait.... you get texts back?? regularly?!?!?!?! jesus fuckign christ whats THAT like”

Am i that much of a sadsack, journal? brodie says its because im very independent and strong and i give off this “i dont fuckin need you” vibe. which is cool if im lucy liu or angelina jolie however i do not look like the sex symbols that are those iconic women. don’t get me wrong, i have a lovely figure, especially after going to the gym. But I just don’t really think many/any men would see me as so hot that they’d talk to me despite being intimidating. Idk, maybe I’m feeling too sorry fro myself. Jesus it’s 20 fucking 20 and I’m still feeling lesser than and comparing myself to Celeste. It’s not just her, I’ve always felt iike the sidekick. alexis, andrea, mollie, tori, celeste, jen. They were always the pretty, likeable, charismatic one. I’ve always felt like the funny friend who hypes up the main characters storyline. I’m the Judy fucking Greer of life. 

I just need to commit and make a therapy appointment. I’ll email one tomorrow. It’s been my main 2020 goal and fuckin A im gonna make it happen. its been a long one but a good one. hey it just turned midnight, its no longer valentines day. thank fuckin god.

Of course, this is perfect for Ross. One of the ongoing struggles of Ross’s character are his one, then two, then three divorces. They are the source for a lot of jokes in the series, like when Chandler warns Ross:  “If you’re not careful, you might not get married at all this year!” Since each marriage gets shorter, it makes perfect sense that season 10 Ross would be thinking he could meet someone, get engaged, get married, and get divorced by the end of the weekend.

8 The Nicolas Cage Memes

In February 2019, the internet lost its collective mind when someone put Nicolas Cage’s face onto David Schwimmer’s body and made Ross look, well, more like Ross. The Cage/Schwimmer mashup is somehow Ross intensified.

The chorus of “Call Me Maybe” is so perfect for Ross. “I just met you and this is crazy…”? If this song had come out ten years earlier, Chandler would have been using it to make fun of Ross mercilessly. We might have even got some version of this meme’s lyrics on the show. He always sort of thought he and Rachel were going to get back together, so even though he’s dating Charlie it’s a weird moment for him. And hey, we’ve all been there. We’ve all broken up with someone that we really thought it would work out with. Sure, you want them to be happy, but until you feel good about it it’s margarita o’clock.

4 We Were On a Break!

Is there a more iconic line from Friends than “We were on a break”? (Well, maybe the next meme’s is!) This repercussions of this moment last through nearly all ten seasons of Friends because Ross never really lets it go. (We were right there with Chandler when he said, “If you say that one more time I’m going to break up with you.”)

You can agree or disagree about whether or not being on a break excuses sleeping with someone else, but I think we can all agree that being on break excuses all kinds of behavior at work. Asleep? 3 Just Pivot

In season five episode 16, “The One with the Cop,” Ross buys a new couch and refuses to pay the delivery fee. He enlists Rachel’s help, and eventually Chandler’s as well, to try to get it up a narrow and curving staircase. Ross is as determined as he’s ever been to make it work, encouraging his friends to try increasingly difficult physical and acrobatic stunts to try to get the couch upstairs. Work and Play With a Side of Fries: Amelia’s Paris Fashion Week Diary

Saturday, 7:15 a.m.

Contrary to the popular belief held by those who’ve consumed alcohol the night before, 7:15 a.m. is a pretty nice time to be awake in Paris.

I’m up to catch up on the work I missed while traveling yesterday and to start to chip away at deadlines due next week. If I learned one thing from last February Paris Fashion Week, it’s that there’s always less free time to get work done than you think. My first appointment is at 10:30 a.m., so I’m what the French call, “concentrating.”

I’m a little anxious…

10 a.m.

Done-ish, enough to go get breakfast at least. Spencer, my boyfriend, is here for the weekend and he’s helping to keep me on schedule. We go to a kind of weird place that’s definitely a tourist trap, but a croissant and jam is a croissant and jam, you know? I am still a little anxious. I think it’s the combination of my impending schedule and not totally knowing my way around and not having all my ducks in a row. But still, Paris. Also, I spot Alber Elbaz and have a spazzy moment of feeling designer-star-struck, which I didn’t think happened to me? Just when you think you’re cool!

10:30 a.m.

First stop of the day is the Peter Pilotto showroom to see the clothes he showed in London, up close and personal. It’s bright and colorful and jumpstarts yesterday’s good mood. I try on a coat. I schmooze. I relax.

11:30 am

I’m at Magda Butrym, where the collection was inspired by Dolly Parton (please let this theme continue). I fall in love instantly with the ruffled sleeves, padded shoulders, hot pink and red silks and rhinestones but… THE SHOES! I love one pair of tall boots that were about my height in particular, and some heels with removable puffy bows. It’s all so eighties; in the wrong fabrics, could very well be tacky. But these textiles are luxe and the draping is like “UGH!” and it’s all so good. Clothes like these make me wish I were a different kind of person, more balls-to-the-wall in how I dress.

12 p.m.

The world’s greatest cab driver, Yusef, has picked me up and is singing along to “Lady in Red.” He wears a very nice baby blue cable knit sweater. We bond over classic 80s music. We are instant friends and my brain does this thing it did last time I was here where it shouts super loud, “HEY AMELIA, MAYBE YOU SHOULD MOVE TO PARIS.”

12:30 p.m.

Altuzarra, though staged in the middle of La Couple, a brasserie that’s apparently a real establishment here, brings me back to New York for a moment as I’m seated between a few friends from back home. I’m not constantly with friends here in the way that I am during NYFW, so when I do run into them, it’s nice. Someone almost always has a portable phone charger, a snack and a hug.

Altuzarra’s collection reminds me of New York, too: glen plaid and pinstripe suits, a trench, a cozy shearling coat. My favorite items are the dresses: one purple dress in tie-dye velvet with a sort of modern-medieval neckline, a few with ruching and off-the-shoulder sleeves (but only if you want — choose your own adventure) adorned with glittering metallic paillettes. It’s not capital F fashion, but the collection has style. Pair with that Altuzarra’s pin-sharp tailoring and its wearer will instantly feel like she has her shit together.

1:30 p.m.

I just dropped Elle.com’s Nikki Ogunnaike off in a cab where we spent the ride chatting about how much the industry has changed since our intern days (a lot). I ate this little cake while she spoke, scooping out the inside, leaving its chocolate shell, which I offered to Nikki too late to actually be considered polite. She declined (it was kind of gross) and then had to go. Bye, friend!

Soon after, at Natasha Zinko, the designer plays with the concept of a working, successful woman who isn’t defined by her job, but rather by all the pieces that make up her personality, which she may only reveal here and there.

Then I try on these weird sunglasses that make me look like an alien.

2:30 p.m.

I quickly stop by Mira Mikati for a burst of rainbow color and a go-kart/carnival theme, then I head home to charge my phone and meet up with Spencer, who has spent all day eating his heart out at the Musee d’Orsay. I visit the museum vicariously through him as I swipe through photos of Rodin’s sculptures on his phone.

4:30 p.m.

After some work, he and I walk to a cafe my Parisian friend Sophie recommends, but it’s full, so we go somewhere whatever where I get an okay salad, fries and a Diet Coke. Then we get a text from our friend Gabby, who’s doing PR for a few shows, that she has a break and wants us to come meet her and her friends at the Ferris wheel, so we do, snag a six person gondola and have a truly delightful time on top of the world.

5:30 p.m.

The lot of us walk through the Tuileries at an impressively slow pace because we all have to stop and take about a million versions of the same photo. The lighting was good so no complaints. Once everyone gets a new profile picture, we part ways.

6:30 p.m.

Spencer and I are posted up at Cafe Flore with Sophie, my friend who suggested the earlier spot. I’m taking this opportunity to push through emails, but since I am the only person on my phone, I wrap far more quickly than I would have if we were in New York. We’ve crashed Sophie’s drinks with her friends and overstay our welcome until about 8 p.m., when I have to run to Sonia Rykiel. Spencer stays; he’s very French now.

8:45 p.m.

Jet lag was just about to hit when Sonia Rykiel wakes me up. The show concludes with two loud confetti-exploding POPS! Models laugh and dance down the end of the runway. Then Bananarama comes on to sing and champagne is passed around. It is a celebration of the label’s 50th anniversary and a joyful tribute to the late iconic designer. The clothes themselves were both fun and very “ready-to-wear,” nothing so FASHION that everyone couldn’t enjoy them, save for the four fluffy-hatted snow monsters that opened the show in tandem. My favorite look was a green glitter dress on a model who charged the runway in thigh high boots with a caramel-colored bolero.

9:30 p.m.

It should be time for bed, but instead, it’s time for dinner. We eat, though nothing major, I am sorry to report, then around 11:30 p.m. we take a long walk back to the hotel. My feet hurt but it’s worth it; it’s easier to see the sights on foot.

Sunday, 12 p.m.

Following a rainy morning spent debating where to eat in-between emails and some work for Hotel MR (!!!), I stop by the Tome presentation to see Ryan Lobo and Ramon Martin’s latest collection. It’s inspired by the artist Tschabalala Self, and though she wasn’t in the room today, she appears in the lookbook. I love this collection, all wide legs and clashed patterns. I think my favorite, if I had to choose, is the layered plaid look that features accordion pleats that are practically camouflaged in all the pattern.

1-4 p.m.

Time is starting to blend together. After Tome, where I run into Tamu McPherson, who is best-dressed dressed for the rain in a clear Maison Michel hat, I have a re-see at Nina Ricci, where I discover details I didn’t catch from my seat, like the corduroy texture of a gray suit (apparently the brand does corduroy every Fall/Winter, which I did not know) and the crinkle effect on a white silk dress.

5 p.m.

Time for Valentino. First thing to know is that, while everyone dresses up for every show in Paris — talk about the best of Sunday’s best — the crowd before and after Valentino come attired in head-to-toe full looks. (I’m still in my outfit from this morning, and I dressed for the rain. The weather’s since taken a turn for the sunny. Damn these chic women and their chic foresight.) When the show begins and the models start walking down an unpretentious, simple runway, I understand the crowd’s impulse to dress accordingly — even if that meant running home to change first. The clothes are so artfully crafted, so beautiful in a way that seems specific to Paris (that’s my romantic side writing, let it happen) that, as a viewer, I want to blend into the scenery, absorb into the world of Valentino, and pay respects.

The collection itself is a fairytale fantasy but not so fantastical that it’s absurd. Mostly, the fairytale is in reference to the little red riding hoods that come in a variety of colors, and the gowns that give proper use to the word “ethereal” — which I’d previously, in my own writing at least, embargoed. The rest of it is simple; not “easy” simple, or basic simple, but experienced, sweeping, painterly lines with just the right amount of bells and whistles.

6 p.m.

After meeting up with our roving street style photographer, Simon, to stage a photo for this story, I head to the Marais to meet my friends where I drink two negronis and eat vegetable pizza with a side of spaghetti bolognese. Weird combo but whatever, it’s the weekend. I have two-and-a-half-hours to kill before Thom Browne and my phone’s dead, so I charge it behind the bar (which means no checking email) and forget about fashion week for long enough to process it.

Deuteronomy 29:1-30:20 ~ Luke 11:37-12:7 ~ Psalm 78:1-31 ~ Proverbs 12:19-20

Today is April 6th.  Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible.  I am Brian. Greetings to you from the mountains of North Georgia where later on today the More Gathering for Women will begin. So the team, we are here and speedily preparing for their arrival.  We’ll talk about that in a little bit, but we’re here for the word of God which washes into our lives no matter where we are and no matter what we’re doing.  So from the New International Version, Deuteronomy chapter 29, verse 1 through 30, verse 20 and, man, just a few days and we will finish this book of Deuteronomy, these final words of Moses.  Let's press in.  Let's press into what he is saying before he leaves the children of Israel and they move forward toward the Jordan River.  

Commentary

Moses, in the book of Deuteronomy for the last week and a half since we’ve begun this book, couple weeks, has been saying the last things that he is going to say and he has been kind of reaffirming the law that was given and its customs and rituals and celebrations, all the things that are woven into the culture to remind them of who they are.  And he has been talking about the covenants that God has made with the people and so we’ve been kind of moving through the blessings and the cursings, the advantages and disadvantages of obeying that covenant and what life will look like based on the choices that are made in that.  

We can look at it and go, “Okay, that was then.  This is now, Jesus has come,” but Jesus’ coming has ratified a new covenant that also has blessings and cursings.  Maybe they don’t look exactly like that or are enacted just like this, but all we have to do is look at our own lives.  When we are walking with God in an intimate covenant with him, that does not mean challenge or hardship or difficulty or obstacle doesn’t come our way.  It means that we have a horizon and we’re never lost in where we’re going.  We have a North Star.  We’re moving through, not being stuck in any wilderness.  So the words from Moses’ lips today ring true all the way across these thousands of years into our own ears and hearts.  

“This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you, that I have set before you[TR1]  life and death, blessings and curses.   Now choose life so that you and your children may live, that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice and hold fast to him, for the Lord is your life.”

That is no less true this very minute than it was when Moses spoke it. So may we invite the Holy Spirit to come and examine our lives.  What are the paths that we are walking down and where are they going, toward blessing or toward the fact that we can curse ourselves with the choices that we make by choosing to walk away from God in any situation?  The cumulative effect will either be blessing or cursing, life or death.  The choice, however, with the children of Israel and with us, is ours.  May we choose life.  

Prayer

Holy Spirit, we invite you into that, because the truth of our lives is that we choose both.  We choose both often.  We may be choosing life in this area and cursing in another.  We may be walking down the narrow path that leads to life in certain areas, while in others not so much.  And here you are saying, “But don’t you want abundant life?  Don’t you want life to the full?  Aren’t you tired of settling for a half life when I’ve come to make you whole?”  And we hear you.  We hear you and it rings true because it is true.  So come, Holy Spirit.  We ask in the name of Jesus, by whose authority we can even come into your presence, we ask that you show us what it looks like to fully, completely, with heart, mind and will, with all of our heart, all of our strength, all of our mind walk with you and choose abundant life.  Come Jesus, we pray in your mighty name.  Amen.

Community Prayer Requests and Praise Reports

Hey, y’all.  This is Nette from Oklahoma City.  Oh, two days and I’ll wake up to the More Conference.  I can’t wait to see you guys.  Hey, Mike from Colorado who was driving down to Boulder considering the pointlessness and meaningless of life, my brother, I understand you completely. I have felt that way for a long time until I read and meditated on the book of Ecclesiastes, King Solomon's book of wisdom.  My brother, your answer is in the book of Ecclesiastes.  I don’t want to spoil it for you.  Read the book.  You will find out that you are not the first person, you won't be the last who has felt just like this.  I understand because we have to sit here and go through these trials and tribulations for what seems like no pointless reason whatsoever and why can’t God just come on down here and just take care of this business and, you know, let's just get this party started.  I understand exactly how you feel, exactly.  I understand.  But also keep in mind that, brother, we’re here for a mission and that is to spread the word of God and save as many people and take them all with us as quickly as possible. We got to fill up our bus with nonbelievers and convert them to believers.  So, brother, you do have a point and a mission and that is to spread God's word.  Go out and be fruitful, right?  And multiply. That doesn’t mean just children either. That means bringing in nonbelievers and telling them about the Lord.  So, brother, you have a mission.  Even though it feels pointless, you gotta look beyond that.  So read Ecclesiastes, my brother, and I think that you’re going to find exactly what you are looking for and also be a mission man. Be a mission man.  Tell folks what you found, alright?  I love you…

Dear Lord, I pray for unity in your church.  Your church, not our church.  God, I pray that we would understand one another, understand differences, that we would be forgiving of one another when we don’t understand and when others hurt us horribly.  Lord, sometimes when it lasts for years and the pain just won't go away, help us to see these people who hurt us through your eyes, Lord Jesus.  Help us to remember that we were totally dead in our sins and it was by your grace that we were saved, not through our works.  God, help us to see people through your eyes, to understand one another.  Just take away the hurt.  Help us to forgive one another, be kind to one another the way you have been so forgiving of us.  I pray that you would mend the things that have hurt for years among the listeners, for those who have been betrayed by brothers and sisters in the church, by clergy, by people who they thought they trusted.  And God, just bring healing for your glory, Lord.  Let us live for you and not ourselves.  We love you, Lord, and we praise you.  In Jesus’ name, amen.  

Hi Dabbers.  This is God's Girl, Kathy in Nacogdoches, TX.  I just listened to Daily Audio Bible on Monday.  Today is April 3rd.  A lady's recording came on.  I didn’t catch her name, but she is going through a divorce and the brokenness in her voice and in her heart really touched me because I used to be married to a minister and we went through a horrific divorce.  I can honestly say I know what it is like to hurt.  I didn’t want to get divorced but it was a very abusive situation that I was in and I look back now and I see the hand of God on my life and my children's lives.  I'm the mom whose got the son that has had the seven brain surgeries. So I'm calling to encourage you, my sister.  You keep your head up.  God promised he would never leave us nor forsake us.  He loves us more than we can even imagine.  And as much as I love my children, God loves them even more than I do and he loves me more than my mom and my dad with me.  That's just a lot to comprehend, isn’t it?  But I just wanted to say greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world and though your heart is breaking right now, God is the mender and the healer and it will get better in the mighty name of Jesus.  Just know I'm praying for all of you.  The Lord bless each of you.  There are so many that call in that need healing in so many besetting circumstances, but our God reigns.  I love you all.  Keep your chins up.  Stay on your knees.  Keep praying and believing in Jesus’ holy name.  Goodnight.  

Hello Daily Audio Bible family, friends, people.  This is Blessed Like Me.  I have been just so elated today.  I did a children's sermon on Sunday.  I did a sermon on forgiveness.  I read from Matthew 6, I believe, where Jesus tells us how to pray and right after that prayer, right after that whole prayer, Jesus said forgive those that have done you wrong.  No, he says forgive because you have been forgiven and if you do not forgive, you won't be forgiven.  Then I got to thinking and I read Colossians 3:12 which says you will need compassion, kindness, and a couple of more characteristics that have to do with the things that you need to be as we’re forgiven.  But anyway, on my children's sermon I had two brothers stand up.  I had one brother slightly push the other brother just as an illustration on forgiveness.  The one brother pushed the other brother a little bit.  I said, “Do you forgive him?”  And just unscripted, I had not planned with these boys or anything, but the one boy said, “No, I don’t forgive him.”  And I told that one boy that didn’t forgive him, I said, “You’re standing in unforgiveness right now.  Right now your prayers cannot be answered.  Your prayers are hindered.”  I asked him, “Do you pray for your parents?”  He said, “Yes.”  I said, “Well, right now you can’t pray for your parents because you’re standing in unforgiveness.”  You should have seen his eyes just dim.  His eyes changed because he turned to forgiveness.  Anyway, forgiveness is key.  You can almost stop your redemption.  If he says your sins can’t be forgiven, then wow.  Love you Daily Audio Bible family.  

Hello Dabbers.  This is Ruth from California.  This is my first call since I started listening two years ago.  I love to hear your stories and your testimonies and, Brian, I thank you so much for your commitment to the word and the love you share with each of us.  I pray for each one of you as you share the burden you carry and I remember it was Scott, I believe, in Southern California who was a believer but has turned away from Jesus and has a heavy heart as far as his position in Christ.  Scott, he loves you and that has not changed.  I would like to ask you if you would not only pray but fast for my grandson, Isaac.  When he was 4 he had a grand mal seizure.  He's continued to have seizures and has been every day to prevent them  without success.  Isaac is now 22 years of age and is scheduled for brain surgery beginning April 18th at the University of Seattle.  He's an amazing young man who loves the Lord with all his heart. We believe our healer is the Lord Jesus and we look to him for success with surgery.  The doctors have only given us a 50/50 chance, but we believe with Jesus all things are possible.  Thank you and I cherish your prayers for Isaac.  [singing]  I love you, Lord, and I lift my…
