“It’ll take a few days to ease the pain,” Skat says with a light smile. “A few weeks to heal entirely.”

Skat’s home—or so the prince assumes—is nothing like he’s used to. Wooden floors, slatted roof, bed of straw. Is this really how the majority live? How the hell do they do this? As much as the thought of home makes him sick, he does miss his luxurious quilts.

“Thank you,” the prince says not entirely genuinely. If the old knight has a time frame on his recovery, his chances of slipping away unnoticed are slim. Unfairly so. “I appreciate you not trying to sell me or anything.”

Skat laughs, the sound flattened by the dull walls. A laugh like that probably echoed in the walls of the castle, back in the day. “I still have to hold Gvette off yet,” he says brightly. He unrolls a slice of bandage, popping a bottle open from the bedside table. “She’ll warm up to you, though, I’ve no doubt.”

Gvette disappeared into the woods yesterday to wash the prince’s bloodstained clothes. Not voluntarily, mind—Skat had had to ask her to help several times before she begrudgingly grabbed them and made a show of dragging them along the floor on the way out.

The prince tries and fails to hold back a wince as Skat goes about carefully changing the bandage. The clean fabric, cooled by whatever the healing stuff is from that bottle, is what he imagines heaven must feel like. The old knight sighs in relief as he tosses the old bandage into the bin.

“Can’t help but ask, if you don’t mind it,” he starts slowly, “why’d you leave?”

The prince rolls the edge of the blanket between his fingers, his gaze fixed on the way it waves back and forth under his control like the ocean. “Why did you?”

There’s a moment of silence where the prince risks glancing up at Skat. He gives the boy a blank stare, blinking absently, before breaking into another laugh.

“Yeah, a’ight, touché.” He shakes his head, adjusting idly on his little bedside stool. “Don’t think you’d like my answer much, though.”

“I doubt you'd like mine either.”

“Well,” the man says with a grin, “how abouts this—I’ll tell you mine if you tell me yours. I assume we’re somewhat in the same boat to both be out here, huh?”

It makes sense. Whyever the old man is out here can’t be too different from the prince, right? They both ran from the throne. Both escaped into the wilderness. Both– well, whether Skat ended up in a bear trap as well is a mystery.

“I’ll admit, your father made some poor choices,” he continues. He snivels shortly, dropping his gaze to the floor by the bed. “I couldn’t find it within myself to support a king I didn’t share beliefs with. They were big differences too—it wasn’t just a disagreement on the colour of the curtains. I couldn’t work knowing that what I did brought about terrible things.”

The king isn’t known for his kindness. His entire family isn’t. The prince knows this the best of anyone.

“That’s me,” Skat says with a deep sigh, like it’s a relief to be off his chest. “Your turn, kid.”

The prince opens his mouth, but words refuse to come out. It feels like he’s confessing some great sin to a priest—too much to the wrong person. Easy information to put in the wrong hands.

“It’s a’ight lad,” the old knight adds after a moment. His voice is soft, gentle. “I won’t tell a soul.”

That feeling, that lingering it’s dangerous to show dissent still rings at the back of the prince’s mind. But the man won’t tell anyone. Of course he won’t. They’re a world away from the dangers of the palace here.

So the prince sucks in a deep breath, steels his nerves, and recounts his story.

This time around I thought I would make a comic relaying the events after the last time I posted, because my gosh is it easier to explain with pretty pictures than upsetting words >vO I prefer to make jokes about my situation than anything, ‘cause honestly it’s a solid way of dealing with it and I take so many medications as it is, why not add laughter to it I say! Despite my condition’s best efforts I still managed to organise and complete a commission with someone through emails! Thank you @waezi2 you were so patient as I arose from my grave every other day to get things done (❁´◡`❁) Fighting my body and winning to complete it was the victory I needed! The sheer satisfaction I get from a commission well received by someone is like pure nectar to me~ Sweet sustenance I just can’t get enough of! The money don’t hurt either, Disability Support Pensions do not go far in this economy 👀 This is as close as I can get to having a job and I wont let C.V.S (Cyclic vomiting Syndrome) or Chrohns take that from me!

Hi so this is about the poll of are you for or against death penalty and how so many people in the notes of that post are like ''uuuuu im against death penalty bc no one should have the power to decide that'' and while, ok i don't want to be mad at you because that is true, i think fuck you every single time because you know what? No crime should be punishable by death

And not because someone will be wrongly accused or someone will abuse that power or whatever, these are problems that are caused by the mentality that some things are irredeemable enough that the only way to solve them is murder.

And the worst part is that then these same people will call themselves prison abolitionists when you think even the worst punishment is something that could be given just for the sake of punsihment if we had a way that was 100% accurate and non abusable

Because like, what i think the point of prisons should be meant to be is a place to reflect, realize what you did and to redeem yourself and come out better at the end (obviously that's not what it is rn)

Because i have this belief that is apparently so weird on here that no one is evil at their core and that with work and care everyone can be redeemed (not necessarily forgiven by the people who were hurt by them, but definitely able to grow and not make those mistakes again) i truly believe that all bad things people do are because of the situation they are in or the environment they grew up with no one was born evil we all laughed and smiled as babies and everyone can be good if they are taken proper care of

I don't know how im the weird one for saying that no one should be killed even with a perfect unbiased and unabusable system because killing someone is not a way to make them change it's just a way of mindless punishment that doesn't help anyone

Prince Mallow, Representative of Nimbus Land, in Sarasaland

Prince Mallow continues his ever expansive journey to explore the rest of the world and its variety of cultures, coming to a rest at a long-standing ally of the Mushroom Kingdom, Sarasaland. A surprisingly little-known fact is that Sarasaland technically isn't a kingdom in of itself but a small federation made up of four adjacent kingdoms--Birabuto Kingdom, Muda Kingdom, Easton Kingdom, and Chai Kingdom.

Princess Daisy took the visiting prince on a fairly quick tour of the four kingdoms, each of which apparently have at least one resource they're known for and trade on a federal and, to a lesser extent, international level. Birabuto Kingdom has its intricate pottery, Muda Kingdom is known for its seafood and music, Easton Kingdom has its detailed sculptures, and Chai Kingdom boasts some of the best kinds of tea.

Mallow took particular interest in one sculpture in Sarsaland located in the capital city of the Muda Kingdom. It was gold like most made by his own land's sculptor Garro, but this one was far bigger and dynamic than anything Garro had made to Mallow's knowledge. It depicted a lively dance between Daisy and the brother of Mario, Luigi. After having already heard about Luigi's more active role in Mario's adventures in both the Beanbean and Flower Kingdoms, Mallow had to wonder why he never saw Luigi on his own until the victory parade that followed.

And Daisy was quick to reveal the reason why--she had invited Luigi for a stay in Sarasaland some time before Smithy's Gang invaded. Among other things, the pair had posed for the very statue Mallow had stopped to admire in present day. Luigi hadn't even known a major invasion happened back home in the Mushroom Kingdom until a pair of Mushroom Retainers had arrived with the formal request from Peach that he lead the parade celebrating Mario and party's subsequent victory.

Mallow was both happy and amused to learn from Daisy that Sarasaland was one of the few places Bowser has never invaded, and she proudly considers this possibly a result of the one time Bowser tried to get the jump on her, only for Daisy to, in her own words, "smack him into the stratosphere." Mallow wasn't forgetting that one any time soon. Over the course of the tour, another seemed to take interest in and watched the kingdoms' visitor from a distance. Mallow never got a good look, but they appeared cloud-like. A fellow Nimbus Person, perhaps? Or something else?

for context, from the get go i wanted to keep regulus’ love life as open to interpretation as possible bc i know ppl ship him with a lot of characters (and can be very opinionated about those ships lmfao) & i didn’t want the presence/lack of a certain ship to be distracting to someone that might not enjoy a pairing i flippantly chose for the sake of a couple of lines of dialogue when regulus himself is such a small part of the story. so i’m in a mindset of like “ship him with who you want & it probably makes sense in here somewhere”

was he seen with barty in the bg of an IG post? yes! does he talk to james on the phone a lot & have a rapport with him that exists outside of just being sirius’ little brother? also yes! does he get along well with lily? that’s another yes! does he have an entire friend group that consists of ppl like pandora, evan, etc that we don’t (and won’t) know, that may or may not be present in the crowd at his competition in ch 10? yes, yes, and more yes!

longggg answer just to say that no, i don’t think we’ll explore much barty x regulus in this fic. not because it couldn’t happen in the context of the story, but bc regulus is a secondary character & he’s a secretive little guy, so he wouldn’t be willingly revealing info about his love life to any of our main characters at this moment in time 🫶

First up is the Instinctive Family series by Bookwormgal, which i've been following for a long time (one of the few i manage to keep up with while working on stand au) and absolutely adore. part one is set during the games and is focused on axel/lea's developing role in roxas and xions lives. it's canon divergent, and part 2 focuses on lea (and isa) learning how to parent a pair of superpowered teenage toddlers while also managing their own boatloads of Trauma. it's a great read and i can't reccommend it enough.

dealing with axel and saix's past, ranging from radiant garden, through their horribly traumatic time in the organization, and then finally to the found family light at the end of the tunnel.

this one is very heavy, with topics and themes around neurodivergence, ptsd, failing friendships, and mental illness, and as such can be a little rough to get through. i definitely had to take breaks while reading it, but it's a great story if you don't mind a lot of angst before your happy ending.
