[LONG POST] To Asian Koreaboos
My sister has a Korean classmate who is from Korea and studied in the states for quite some times now, and he straight up said, “what is so good to be Korean anyway?” He doesn’t know and understand why people are always glorifying Koreans as if their gods or some great beings in the world. Koreans are as flawed as other Asian race. They can look like us—just normal humans. Not all Koreans are tall, have beautiful make-up and special clothing on, or look like the ones in we see in the media. Korea itself is a country with so many issues (and don’t get me started) like every other country. It is not a land filled with the best race ever. So please stop already, and look at yourself in the mirror deeply. Sorry to break it to you, but you’re not Korean. You need to start realizing that your culture and your heritage is important and beautiful.
Also, there was a Korean girl in my class who was never proud of being Korean until Kpop and Korean Culture become popular, and that’s when she started bragging, “I’m like the only Korean in here.” So what? You better embrace that shit and not just bragging because it’s popular now. And why am I bringing this up? Because you don’t want to be like her, a person with no self-respect. Have some respect and appreciation for yourself, your race, and your culture. Know that you are what you are because of your parents, and your parents are what they are because of your culture and ancestors. You don’t need to be Korean to be beautiful and feel amazing. You are already amazing as you are. Embrace yourself and where your people came from.
To non-Asian Koreaboos
You want to be Asian that much? Bet you can’t even imagine:
The awkward feeling of always identifying what race you are because people always assume that you’re Chinese
People judging your food and how it smells
Struggling to speak in “perfect English” because of the fear of being laugh or tease at if an accent comes out
People telling you to speak in English instead of your language or people looking at you weird when you speak your own native tongue in public
Feeling embarrassed when your parents come to your class because you’re afraid other students might laugh at them for not knowing how to speak English
Constantly being asked “where you’re from” or “where are your parents from?”
Being told to “go back to where you came from.”
People asking you if your English name is your real name or asking what your name means if you have a non-English name
People complimenting you that “your English is very good.”
People making fun of your appearance (like this one woman whose sibling married a Korean, and that bitch was like, “why is the baby’s eyes so chinky?” *GD’s middle fingers up*)
“Ching chong ching” (that’s not even Chinese by the way. It’s gibberish.)
To always hold your anger in when people talk shit about you and your culture because you know there’s no point in arguing with racist, ignorant, and stupid people
Stereotype: “quiet, nice, smart, and listen”
People having high expectations that you’ll pass a class or have good grades because ‘you’re Asian.’ (fuck the model minority myth)
To respect, have patience, and obedience to your parents and their wishes
This girl flew to Korea without telling her parents and said that her parents were “too conservative” and didn’t want them to be stopping her if she go. Honey, my dad is hella traditional—meaning that we can’t go out LITERALLY. School and back home. Grocery shopping and back home. We can’t even go to afterschool programs or participate in school clubs. We can’t even go sleep over at my grandmas’ because my dad would say “you got your own house. Why you always going over to people’s place? Don’t you have face?” And that’s why we always stay home cuz our dad says so. Even until I was 24 years old, I still tell my dad where I was going because I know it’s important for him to know and that we are safe. So I don’t know what you be talking about.
Always have to deal with unsatisfied parents
Parents: “go to school and get a good job.”
Daughter/Son: *gets good grades, graduate, becomes a Pharmacist*
Parents: why didn’t you become a doctor instead? It makes more money.
You really need to start respecting our cultures, our family structure (I can’t speak for all Asian, but this plays a huge role in my culture), our beliefs, and the way how we live. Just because we’re Asian, we look like your Kpop? That’s racist, you know? That’s like saying all Asians look alike. Before you start fantasizing, fetishize our people, or “want to be Asian,” you have to think about the social and racial—even class—issue we go through on a daily basis—things you can never impossibly imagine or want to experience. We are more than your assumptions of what Asians are supposed to be or "your kpop."
It’s ok to like and be interested in Kpop, Kdramas, Korean Culture, and learn the language, but you need to remember who you are. BE PROUD.
Again, this comes from my personal experiences as an Asian American, so don’t generalize this to all Asian. We all come from different cultures and different parts of the world, so our experiences will be different. For my Asian followers or anyone who has a different take on, feel free to add.
#Koreaboo#Kboo#Korean Wannabe#rant#sorry guys for being harsh#I am still boiled up at people who are obsessed with kpop & wants to be Asian#and try super hard to be korean#and they just wan to date an Asian cuz 'he might be kpop'#I know what a kboo is#but I didn't know that people will go to the extreme#flying to Korea just to get a Korean bf or trying to find one nearby#I feel sick to my fucken stomach#I—never in my whole life—feel this objectified and dehumanized#like we Asians are not objects for you#how will you like it if other people fetishize you just cuz of your race?#bet you wouldn’t like it#it’s disgusting and it makes us feel inferior#add: and seeing videos with titles e.g. 'how to look Asian make-up tutorial'....da fuq???#seriously in shock of....like people actually watch that??#be proud of your race please#LONG POST
