I saw your answer to the fanfiction anon about how the buddie fandom is all about isolating buck from everyone else until the only one that's left is eddie. And thinking back to most of the fanfics I've read, that is exactly what happens. Like the theory that if you isolate two roosters for long enough, at one point they are bound to mate. I believe one of the major reasons behind that is the fact that Buddie only works through the fandom lense but once you broaden your perspective though, you are left with a very ordinary relationship and everytime i see any post by a buddie fan, I have to really wonder if they have ever had friends because if you think that is romantic behaviour, then me and my best friend are practically soulmates bound through the ages (well, we are but not like that). which is probably why it's so hard for the GA - particularly people who are not used to how fandom sees things, to care about buddie. because believe it or not, most people have an eddie in their life. actually most people have someone better than eddie in their life but that is a discussion for another day. raising a kid? my mother's best friend has half raised me even though i have a full set of parents, to the extent that she is still the only one whose approval i need for academic decisions. doing chores? i used to do my best friend's dishes every week because she hated doing them. people thinking they are together? our professor in college genuinely thought we were together and this is back when homosexuality was illegal in my country. shipping is fun, it's cool to find meaning where there might be none. it is death of the author at its finest. but that doesn't mean that you get to burn the book and posit that your version is the only version that's real. be a fan, don't be a white colonizer.

It sounds bad, and it is not my intention to be mean, but it does feel like a lot of them either lack a deep friendship in their irl life, or they choose not to see the similarities. I spent hours on end next to one of my best friends, helping her with her enrollment in her Master's because it was confusing her. A friend called me when she had something bad happening to her because she felt like I could be the one giving her comfort. One of my best friends had his Dad go through a very bad health crisis, and I spent days by his side so he wouldn't be alone. And, newsflash, I'm not in love with any of them.

When it comes down to it, I think this is why I can't bring myself to ship Buddie anymore, not even in a casual way. It is what stopped me from shipping them that much initially (Tommy coming into our screens was just the nail in the coffin) - I'd read a fanfic, and then go and rewatch the series, and I would realise just 1. how different both things were (yet how it was almost an unsaid rule that fanon was the actual canon) and 2. That Buddie just wasn't there in the way that was pushed in the fandom. All the moments of jealousy they claimed happened? Didn't happen. Buck spending all of his free time with the Diaz boys? Didn't happen. Buck and Eddie being co-dependent to the point everyone teased them about it? Didn't happen.

Their friendship, even? Not even half as good or deep as the fanfics write it to be. But that's a whole other rant lol.

My point is, it's fine to have a world created in fanon. My OTP isn't canon, all of my works exist solely in fanon. And it's fine! But a line is crossed whenever they try to force fanon into canon, and harass everyone who refuses to do that.

Also - I really don't like how they make Buck this defenseless man-child that needs Eddie to fight his battles because everyone is so mean to him, and only Eddie can save him. Bffr. Buck lived on his own for years, was a nomad for years. He's been shown to have a temper if pushed and poked enough. His sunny outer persona distracts people from it, but honestly? Buck can fight his own battles perfectly fine on his own (and has, in fact, done exactly that for the entirety of the show).

there's something to be said about how zhu sees both ouyang and ma xiuying as alternative bodies for herself. ouyang as her missing hand, her dog on a leash, who can enact violence for her in a way she personally can't; ma xiuying as someone who can feel emotions for her so she doesn't have to, especially things like compassion that zhu thinks will weigh her down, and then later becoming the body that conceives zhu's heir. ouyang gets all the parts of masculinity zhu doesn't like and ma xiuying gets all the parts of femininity zhu doesn't like. how she outsources these gendered things onto other people who she also views as part of her....

Maybe I'm projecting too much of my desperation to graduate and get out of school unto Ford but I do not think he was a good student nor did he enjoy Backupsmore as like, the concept of an academic institution, lol.

The entire reason he justified leaving Stan behind was the amazing and innovative programs at West Coast Tech. Then he gets to Backupsmore and it's all underfunded programs and gen ed requirements? Can you imagine the crash out when a professor told him they don't take underclassmen in their lab, no matter how smart they are? Can you imagine him sitting through calc 1, 2, and 3 for the second time because his high school credits didn't transfer? He let his brother cheat through all of high school--- you know he was the GO TO for people who were too hungover or lazy to figure out their homework on a Sunday afternoon before it was due.

This is a guy who craves being in the field so bad he let his best friend get regularly traumatized just for The Science (Sorry, Fiddleford). We don't know for sure that he didn't publish anything while in Gravity Falls but it sure doesn't seem like it--- he's definitely the guy that has super high standards for other people's papers and articles but HATES writing his own. He loves the idea of writing but the academic paper process makes him hate himself (even more than usual). This is a guy who deep down just wanted to go sailing with his brother the whole time--- he is NOT sitting peacefully through a fundamental physics lab, he IS blowing something up, even when it shouldn't be possible. That man probably got into a near fistfight with the Dean trying to get his academic track sped up to graduate early. The admin office hated him. The physicists professors got into arguments about whether he was the best or worst student of all time. Nowadays, when you whisper Stanford Pines to the ancient physics department head, he shudders and holds his delicate lab machinery close. He's haunted by what was.

I know some people were caught off guard by Q!Cellbit's big reveal, but just a friendly reminder that he's not the only genius among the Brazilians, those guys ar ALL incredibly smart, it just doesn't seem like it because they're also huge dumbasses (affectionate).

QSMP spoilers below (tho they're more my reading of events than 100% facts and I'm really biased)

Forever knows Cellbit's whole federation loving bullshit is a con, he knew from day one, he can't prove it, but he mentioned it as a likely possibility multiple times, he's not mad at Cellbit for joining the federation, he's mad at Cellbit because he's being a jerk about it and threatening to change Richarlyson's custody agreement, he knows it's a con, but he's smart enough to be prepared for the off chance it isn't, and even when the truth gets revealed it doesn't mean all the hurtful things Cellbit said will be forgiven.

I'll be honest I don't watch Tazercraft that often, but on the first five minutes I tapped into their streams I heard Mike saying that this all must be a plan, them and Cellbit go way back, and while part of it might be wishful thinking they know this is not Cellbit the conspiracy maniac who was completely against the federation, they know there must be something else there, they considered the possibility of him going crazy, but they're also considering the idea of it all being planned.

Cellbit thinks he fooled everyone, but his friends saw through him almost immediately, they're pissed at him not because of the betrayal, but because he's being a jerk, they don't trust him enough to be certain of the whole infiltration plan, they're definitely wary of him, but it's less because they think he's a threat and more because they're afraid that whatever plan he has might backfire badly and he decided to bet on too high stakes in line without letting anyone else in.

I'm so not okay about how Spiral ended, because my mind keeps coming back to badly beaten up Schenk, escaping the factory, and I can't not imagine him going back to his small rented flat, where he just stumbling to the bathroom, sits on the floor, and coughs up blood. There's ringing in his ears, that's not going away, and he closes his eyes, because this darkness, this nothingness is somewhat comforting, and he just thinks about everything that happened, and everything sucks, but he knows: even though he's alone, he should keep going.

And Luffy knows Usopp can handle himself, he knows it but he also knows that there are cruel people out there, the same that took both his brothers from him, the same that put Camie in chains and Hachi in the hospital, the same that tore Robin apart so fundementally, those same people would subject his husband to fates worse than death if they had any luck at all and found Usopp - and Luffy wouldn't even know until the two years were up, and many horrible things can happen in two whole years.
