Trapped in Konoha (part 3)
What the hell is wrong with this world? Niva thought, still not completely comprehending her situation. Niva walked through the streets munching on a banana. She had to admit, the weather here was gorgeous. At this time of year, it was sunny and warm with a slight breeze. The perfect weather to go and train your ass off. Niva found an unoccupied training field. She began with taijutsu training. She kicked and punched the trees leaving small indents in them with every strike. Then she moved on to her magic. There was a strange abundance of magic here, making her life far easier but she still had a long ways to go. After all, Kakashi could cream her with one hand behind his back. Literally. She sat down cross legged and slowly gave off more and more magic power. She began to glow light purple, the color that she always gave off when using large amounts of magic. The color got more intense as she used more strength, forcing her to break out in a sweat. The steady stream of purple energy was beginning to falter as Niva was reaching her limit but she pushed through. This was the only way of getting more magic as Niva was concerned and lord was it taxing. Eventually Niva reached her breaking point and fell over backwards panting. She lay looking at the clouds, regaining her strength. I don’t know if my luck here is horrible or incredible. She thought, I’m stuck with Mr. Emo Duckbutt-for-hair Uchiha, complete knucklehead Uzumaki, and weak fangirl Haruno. Then again, I have a nice apartment, a powerful sensei and a Hokage that cares about me. I’m going to lose my goddamn mind by the end of my time here. Niva took a deep breath and sat up, somewhat ready to resume her training. She was going to practice sword skills when Emo Duckbutt showed up.
“What are you doing here?” Sasuke asked coldly.
“Training.” Niva replied, “Am I not allowed?”
Sasuke rolled his eyes. Typical. Niva thought.
“You’ve really gotta step up your game.” She said, smirking, “For an Uchiha, the most venerable clan around, you’re pretty pathetic. I mean, I’ve been a ninja for three days and I can already kick your ass.”
Sasuke glared at her with the signature Uchiha glare.
That dumb look isn’t going to work on me. Niva thought.
“You got nothing to say?” Niva taunted. For some reason, she got indescribable amounts of joy from pushing Sasuke’s buttons. “Well if you’ve got nothing to say, I suppose we’re done here. I’m going to finish my training.”
“Fight me.” Sasuke said calmly, “But for real this time. You can use your not-jutsu whatever it’s called, and I can use whatever jutsu I want. Deal?”
“Sure.”
Sasuke and Niva stood in fighting stances waiting for someone to make the first move. Niva decided to start the match. She pulled her sword out from the sheath on her back and swung at Sasuke, full power. He blocked it with his kunai but had no choice but to jump backwards. He retaliated by throwing several shuriken at Niva. Shuriken-jutsu. She thought, a signature move of the Uchiha clan. She dodged each of the flying weapons, gracefully moving her body out of harm’s way. Niva jumped in the air and threw a barrage of kunai at Sasuke. He blocked and dodged every one and jumped close to Niva, ready to commence hand-to-hand combat. Sasuke threw lighting speed kicks and punches. It took a lot of effort to keep up with his fast movements, but as she had noticed before, he’s fast but extremely predictable. She was able to sense a pattern in his movements, making it simple for her to predict the next one. Just as Niva had expected, Sasuke was going in for a punch. Niva was ready this time, she roundhouse kicked him hard in the ribs, causing him to fall over sideways. He rolled back onto his feet and weaved several hand-signs.
“Fire style,” Sasuke began his fireball jutsu, “fireball jutsu!”
Niva smirked. Water. She placed her hands in front of her body and sent powerful blasts of water that quickly put out Sasuke’s flames and sent him flying backward. Niva leaped forward, sword brandished. She leaned over him and dug the sword deep into the ground right next to his chest.
“I won.” She stated, re-sheathing her sword.
“What clan are you from?” Sasuke asked, shakily sitting up.
“I don’t have a clan.” Niva said simply, “I’m not even from this world you know.”
“I see.” Sasuke turned his head, embarrassed about something, “You’re a ehm, good sparring partner.”
“All that effort to give one compliment?” Niva said, looking frankly exasperated, “Why don’t we call a temporary truce so that we can train together from time to time. Lord Hokage was telling me about some missions I should do with the Anbu, so I won’t be with the team all the time. We can still spar when I have time.”
“You’re part of the anbu?” Sasuke asked, showing signs of surprise and jealousy.
“Yeah.” Niva replied, “Lord Hokage asked me to help them out with some stuff from time to time. I’ll do the first few missions with you guys then I’ll peel off for a bit. When it comes to the chunin exams  which I hear are coming up,  I’ll be back. I need to improve my rank after all.”
“Hn.” Sasuke walked away.
Niva was about to return to training when she felt a sudden wave of weakness wash over her. Looks like I’ve used way too much magic power. She thought, I think it’s time to call it a day. Niva walked home in a bit of a daze. She knew it was a bad idea to full out fight someone after doing one of those magic strengthening exercises but she never thought it would have such a toll on her. She eventually made it to apartment and fell onto her bed. That night she slept like a log and woke up rather late. Crap! She thought as she chugged a glass of water and devoured some toast, First mission today! I can’t be late! Crap!
Niva raced out of her house and met up with the rest of her team only a few minutes late. Thank god. Niva thought, panting slightly. Kakashi-sensei still hadn’t arrived but that was okay, no one expected him to be on time at this point. After a good fifteen minutes of boredom and blade sharpening, Kakashi ambled towards the kids.
“You’re late again.” Niva pointed out.
“Sorry,” Kakashi started, “I got lost on the path of life.”
“What kind of excuse is that?!” The four genin exclaimed in unison.
“Anyway,” Kakashi said, changing the subject, “We have our first mission today. You better be ready.”
The four genin nodded and followed Kakashi to get into position.
“Are you in position?” Kakashi asked over the headset they were given.
“Sasuke’s in position.” Sasuke replied quickly.
“Sakura’s in position.” Sakura said after Sasuke.
“Niva’s in position.” She said uninterestedly.
Several seconds passed before Naruto replied earning him a sharp ‘too slow!’.
“How far away is the target?” Kakashi asked.
Sasuke responded, “5 meters.”
The rest of the team replied with the same answer. Right as Kakashi gave the signal, Niva dove for the cat and picked it up. Cats were her favorite animal so she knew how to calm one down. She stroked its head gently and cradled it in her arms.
“Mission complete.” Niva said over the headset.
Team seven returned to the Hokage’s office to receive their next mission. Naruto looked rather perturbed for some reason. He’s probably about to complain about something. Niva thought, preparing for the hell Lord Hokage was going to give them if Naruto acted up.
“Can we get some real missions?” Naruto asked, “I’m bored of these little kid missions. We’re real ninja! Believe it!”
Lord Hokage began explaining the reason behind ranked mission but about two minutes into it, team seven tuned out.
“So I was thinking about miso ramen-” Naruto said before being cut off by Kakashi.
Lord Hokage agreed to give them a C class mission. Naruto’s face erupted with joy and Sasuke showed the most positive emotion he had shown since she had met him. He half smiled.
“Niva,” The Hokage started, “You unfortunately will not be going on this mission with them. I have assigned an anbu group for you to work with. You will rejoin the group next mission they have. Your mission starts tonight. Report to my office at sunset.”
Niva bowed respectfully on her way out and went to prepare for her first anbu mission. She reached her apartment and opened the door. She had been slowly making it more homey, adding pictures of her guildmates that she found stashed at the bottom of her mission bag and her newest addition, her team seven picture. The four were assembled in a diamond, Kakashi in the back, trying to smile, Naruto and Sasuke next to each other, both staring and glaring at one another, Niva standing next to Naruto, looking ready to pummel the two, and Sakura kneeling in the front, smiling brightly. If that doesn’t perfectly sum up our team dynamic, I don’t know what does. Niva thought, smiling subtly at the photo. It’s weird how I’ve become so attached to this world after only a few days. I suppose the people here remind me of my friends back at home. Naruto is like Natsu, Sasuke is like an ultra-emo, annoying Gray, and Sakura is like a lovestruck, unambitious Erza. They’re all annoying yet endearing in their own way. Niva pulled on the anbu armor that Lord Hokage had given her and her cat anbu mask. She felt insanely badass.
The evening air was brisk and clean, giving Niva a sense of excitement and power. It was her first anbu mission so she had to show off at least a little bit.
Niva was the first to arrive at Lord Hokage’s office. Perfect. It’ll make me look like I really care about what I’m doing. Niva thought grinning under her mask. She knelt down respectfully and waited for her comrades. The next anbu came in and knelt next to Niva. By the looks of their body, they were female. The girl pulled off her mask revealing a slender face with soft, yet intimidating features, and long blue hair, coiled into a simple bun. Niva copied the kunoichi and took off her mask. Two more anbu entered the Hokage’s office both who seemed to be male. Niva’s assumptions were confirmed when they took off their masks.
The Hokage stood up and looked at the four anbu members, a serious look passed over his face.
“We have been encountering hostile ninja at the Konoha border. They don’t seem to belong to any village as they wear no headbands. They are quite formidable though. We have lost two jonin already.” The Hokage paced slowly behind his desk, looking slightly worried, “I believe in your skill and your ability to work together. Since Asami, Fumiro, and Hachiro have worked together in the past, they have a good gauge of each other’s skill. I wouldn’t worry about Niva’s skill level or her jutsu compatibility. She’s more than strong enough and she uses something other than jutsu but can control all the elements.”
Asami, the blue haired girl nodded and smiled warmly at Niva. The two boys grinned at the same time. They looked a lot like each other leading Niva to assume that they were probably siblings.
“I see that you all already have your armor on.” The Hokage said, sitting back down, “Put on your masks. I’m giving Fumiro the coordinates of the enemy ninja’s last seen location. You may head out.”
The four anbu replied with a firm ‘yes sir’ and headed out the door. Unlike her genin team, they wasted no time talking or figuring out the map. Fumiro glanced at it quickly and set off running. They reached their destination in no time.
“Hachiro will stay in the back because he’s the medic.” Asami announced, unsheathing her katana, “Niva and I will stand on the sides providing lightning jutsu and sword attacks. Fumiro, you will stand in the front and help with offense and defense using your earth and fire chakra natures. Does everyone understand?”
The other three nodded.
“Asami is our strategist.” Hachiro said, adjusting his kunai pouch, “She can see dozens of moves ahead the enemy and her intelligence rivals the Nara clan’s. Not to mention, her sword skills are incredible!”
Niva smiled and blushed slightly. Wow Asami is amazing. She thought, and gorgeous too…
“Get into position!” Hachiro exclaimed, “I can sense the enemy!”
The four ninja stood in their diamond position, weapons brandished and ready. Fumiro was giving off immense amounts of chakra, preparing for a large scale attack. The four anbu stood at the ready, muscles tensed, eyes darting. Long, anticipating minutes passed but the enemy didn’t show themselves. Niva couldn’t shake the feeling that they were being watched from all sides though and from the look coming from Asami and Hachiro’s faces, they felt the same way. Hachiro’s eyes widened.
“They’re coming from behind!” He exclaimed, pivoting backwards, kunai brandished.
Fumiro appeared in front of Hachiro just in time to deflect an incoming kunai.
“Get back.” He commanded, glancing at Hachiro, “We can’t let our healer get hurt.”
Asami and Niva ran to Fumiro’s side, ready to help fend off the enemies. A masked man emerged from the shadows of the trees. He stood confidently, his eyes slightly narrowed and he began to weave several signs to cast a genjutsu. He’s trying to tap into my chakra network. Niva thought, good thing I don’t have one. She pretended to fall victim to the genjutsu and collapsed to her knees. Once she was on the ground, she threw several blazing kunai at the enemy leading him to dodge the weapons but lose his focus on casting the genjutsu. Fumiro and Asami stood back on their feet and began attacking the man. Asami charged her katana with lighting and ran full speed at the man as Fumiro used his earth style to shake the ground beneath the enemy, making it harder for him to dodge Asami’s attack. Niva leaped behind the man and grabbed his arms, trapping them in a tight, metal prison.
“Finish him!” She exclaimed, struggling to restrain the man.
Fumiro grabbed his kunai and was about to stab the man when Asami stopped him. She dealt a high kick to the enemy’s head and knocked him out cold.
“Why’d you stop me from killing him?” Fumiro asked, slightly infuriated, “He’ll wake up soon and we’ll be in the same predicament.”
“I have two reasons.” Asami said, “First, we need him for questioning and investigation. Second, judging by his chakra nature, clan symbol, and the fact that he looks like a fucking Namikaze, he knows teleportation jutsu which he would probably use in that instance leading you to stab Niva instead of him. Instead, have Niva trap him in one of her metal prisons then have Hachiro seal his chakra.”
“Sounds good.” Fumiro replied, “You never act without a plan do you.”
Niva walked cautiously over to the unconscious body and formed a metal prison wide enough for Hachiro to slip into and perform his sealing jutsu.
“Hachiro!” She exclaimed, “Seal his chakra please!”
Hachiro nodded and ran over to the metal prison. He climbed in and checked the man’s pulse and heartbeat. Just as he was beginning his jutsu, he let out a small cry before collapsing to the floor of the prison.
“Hachiro!” Niva cried, “Hachiro are you okay?!”
He didn’t budge. Instead, the man sat up abruptly and pulled out a kunai.
“If you don’t let me out, your friend here dies.” He said menacingly. His voice was gruff and quiet but every word he spoke was articulated and clear, giving everything he said extreme severity.
“Asami!” Niva exclaimed, beginning to breath heavily, “Asami! Hachiro needs help!”
“Your friend won’t have time to help you if I kill this boy now.” The man noted, holding his kunai at Hachiro’s neck, “So what’s your verdict?”
Niva knew that letting the man go goes against the anbu rules. She wasn’t supposed to abandon her mission or let feelings get in the way but this was a life. She was going to give up a precious life for one convict.
“Fine.” Niva said, clenching her teeth, “Just don’t hurt him.”
She lifted the metal prison and watched the man slide out of it. Right as he turned his back, he threw a kunai right at Hachiro. Niva saw Hachiro’s body shudder for a second as his eyes slowly fluttered open and he slowly sat up.
“Where did he go?” Hachiro asked, not processing the fact that he had a kunai lodged in his chest. He saw Niva looking at his shirt in horror and gazed down. “Oh.”He muttered as began to fall to the ground.
Asami and Fumiro were by his side as he was beginning to lose consciousness.
“Hachiro stay awake!” Fumiro exclaimed cradling his body gently, “Hachiro please, you have to stay awake.”
Asami’s face was tensed in concentration. How did I not see that coming?! All of the scenarios I ran through my head, how was that not one of them?! She bit her lip in frustration and began examining Hachiro’s wound. Niva turned her head to the side.
“There’s more enemies coming.” She said, tensing her body, “Asami, try and help him. Fumiro, help me fight them off.”
Fumiro took one pained look at his teammate and stood up to help Niva. Several ninja emerged, all of them wearing masks and flowing robes like the man that had hurt Hachiro. Niva ran at them with pure, unadulterated rage coursing through her eyes. She swung her katana at full force, slashing through several enemies before charging the blade with lightning and using a chidori-like technique to finish off two other ninja. Fumiro jumped in spewing bright flames and turning the once green forest into a burning inferno. Niva ran through the burning field katana glowing with pure magic power and cut down the enemies one by one while Fumiro sent boulder after boulder in their direction. The fight- or one sided annihilation went on as the two anbu destroyed the group of enemy ninja. Fumiro and Niva stood in the center of the clearing panting heavily. Fumiro brushed a single tear from his cheek and clenched his teeth.
“Hachiro’s my brother you know.” He said quietly.
“Yeah, I could tell.” Niva re-sheathed her sword and pulled out a couple of kunai sticking in her arm.
Right as Niva was about to walk back to Asami and Hachiro, she heard a blood-curdling scream. It was Asami!
“Asami!” She yelled, running back to their meeting spot, “Asami! Are you okay?!”
She saw Asami’s figure hunched over Hachiro’s body. As she got closer, she noticed the tears falling onto Hachiro’s bloodstained chest.
“Asami answer me!”
Asami looked up with a look beyond pained on her face. Niva kneeled down by Hachiro’s side and felt for a pulse. Her eyes widened in shock as she noticed that there was none.
Niva was more that furious at these enemy ninja. She knew there were more lurking in the forest but she couldn’t take them all on by herself. Unless-. I’ve been putting off trying that spell. She thought. It takes so much magic power and I don’t think this body is ready for all of the strain but- Hachiro. Suddenly all of Niva’s good reasoning disappeared as she thought of Hachiro. They killed him completely unjustly. They didn’t deserve to live!
Niva was blinded by her rage as she focused the magic energy. With the power she had, she could only go to the first level of cosmos but that was enough. She felt a sudden surge of energy and a raised awareness of the space around her. Four enemies nine meters to the west, two enemies eight meters to the north and one enemy twelve meters the the south-east.
She charged at the four enemies to the west with all the power and speed she could muster. Once she reached them, she focused on the space surrounding them and charged it with magic power, causing it to combust. Next, the northern enemies. She dodged the kunai they threw at her with insane agility. Her enhanced senses allowed her to catch the exploding kunai just in time to throw in back. One down. The next enemy came running behind her with two chakra blades. She manipulated the space around her to form a protective shell, giving her enough time to unsheath her katana and finish the enemy off. Just one left. Upon meeting the enemy, she noticed that he was the one that killed Hashiro. He deserves no mercy. She thought her face burning with rage.
“How could you?!” Niva screamed throwing kunai after kunai at the man, only some meeting their target, “I let you go and you still killed him!”
“Life’s not fair little girl.” He taunted, weaving hand signs.
Niva carefully dodged the vicious water attack and retaliated with her own stream of powerful water. Just as the man was about to dodge it, she turned the water into sharp ice needles and focused them all at him. Thankfully for Niva, he wasn’t able to dodge her final attack. Not wanting to take any chances, Niva bound him tightly in a metal casing and dragged him back to the meeting point.
Asami sat supporting Fumiro’s body as he sobbed over his dead brother.
“I finished them off.” Niva said suddenly feeling all of her power seep out of her.
Looks like I used way too much magic power. She thought as the world began spinning. She saw the ground coming towards her then a flash of blue hair and comforting arms. Suddenly, everything went black.
