@sidhewrites see i feel like. as much as i question (as i do, frequently) the general writing of the order, this feels like something that could have been done right. not quite "was" (see: rushed, shallow, blorbo tragically not a main character, etc.) but could have been. it feels like it shouldn't be an accident that the small friendly fairycreature is overlooked and underestimated, even in-text; it's not a perfect analogy, but it's late now, and all i can think of is princess nuala, how she spent all of hellboy 2 being the good helpless waif but in the end was still willing to kill to meet her aims. it definitely shouldn't be an accident that the most "human"-looking third of the trio is presented as the most dangerous, impulsive, wrathful. it definitely shouldn't be an accident that they're the most Other, either.
unfortunately, whatever canon actually ends up saying—which is an entirely different post—mainstream fanon seems largely content to reduce the text to its simplest reading, even when other minimally-developed characters get much more grace. yes, yes, op (me) is mad bc his blorbo isn't the creator's favorite; but also a little bit at the sheer unrealized potential, in a context where it was not unreasonable to expect more. what human on earth has never felt such helpless, righteous anger? what human on earth has ever lived so charmed a life that they've never lashed out at people they cared for, whether in the right or not?
#caw.txt#as someone who has seen even .5 of a gdt film before this franchise#and also. th itself. lmao#i am *continually* surprised at the lack of curiosity and empathy for specific categories of monster#yeah yeah we'll arbitrarily assign characters as 'canonically sibling coded' ('source: uhhh vibes')#but god forbid you wonder if the visibly queer villain maybe had a point#trollhunters#wizards#mine
