on the site of the museum that hosts the painting, it doesn’t have a title, but when you reverse google search it, it comes up under the name amago buyuden!!! according to the museum tho, this depicts a rat like creature that’s taken the form of a monk and is holding a snake/snake staff
idk if the painting itself has any special meaning, but what sticks out to me is the fact that it depicts a rat wielding a snake. the creature itself is parading as a monk, so this kind of looks like an entendre for deception, as rats and snakes commonly symbolise deceit. the fact that it’s a monk is interesting too; maybe it’s a picture that’s griping at those that seem good are not all as they seem
and maybe coincidentally, maybe not, but there are two of these creatures that come in during hitoya’s ‘i’ll show you how the adults party’ verse and jakurai and rei are both the only two characters with snake imagery on them
