Playing the engage dlc and my god I'm going crazy over Evil Alcryst. I knew this would happen but my brain is still positively rotting

Makes me think of a what if scenario where reader, who is normal Alcryst's s/o, got brought along into the fell demon world. And evil Alcryst I that world is also in love with the reader, though he has slowly been getting obsessed with them because the one in his world did not reciprocate his feelings.

And now he comes face to face with a different "him" that is so weak and pathetic, but still managed to win over your affection somehow. You're standing right by his side. Why can't you do that with him? What does he need to do so you're all his??

He obviously wouldn't hesitate to kill his other self right then and there and steal you away from him

In ordinary circumstances, Alcryst wouldn't give Lord Nil's birthday any more attention than a verbal acknowledgement. They aren't close. He first found the dragon's self-deprecation and constant fawning over his sister grating, only tolerable in small doses. Now, today of all days, Alcryst finds another thing about the dragon to annoy him. Immense strength and potential, centuries of supposed "wisdom", all wasted on a weakling like him. Today, Nil gets another year upon a pile of thousands. Not everyone is blessed to enjoy such a long life. Not by dragon standards. Nor by human standards.

Citrinne would admonish him for thinking so poorly of their ally. And what would Lapis think if she saw him being so ungracious? Just thinking about their recent deaths brings Alcryst such agony. They will never know another birthday. They were not fated to live long lives, unlike...

"Nil." Good deeds are supposed to lighten one's heart, or something like that. Alcryst remains unconvinced—Diamant has never been very convincing—but that doesn't stop him from pushing his present into the dragon's hands. Rock candy, a Brodian speciality. "Happy birthday. Since you like sweets, you ought to enjoy this. ...We'd give a stick for each year, but there wouldn't be any left in the continent if we did that for you."

It's meant to be a joke, something lighthearted, but speaking the words now it's anything but. Alcryst's voice finds his voice beginning to thicken and waver as he follows up with, "....How many would I have needed to give you? North of a thousand, right? But the exact number...

"...Never mind. Forget I said anything." It's a useless question. This is all pointless anyways. Alcryst takes his leave, not waiting for an answer.

Much had changed after the war. An eternal winter for those in Lythos seized by the Divine One's loss and for others one just the same. Their world from that perspective met with standstill. Frozen as the drops that turned to ice in Elusia upon the first seconds of their birth; as flowers in Firene no longer sufficed to boom; or as the Somniel itself - sunken halfway to the ocean, to mirror what could become of even heaven. But Nil on the other hand had not stopped.

In a sense, Nil was always moving.

"Oh! Thank you, Prince Alcryst. I really appreciate it. Birthdays come and go for the dragonkin, I wouldn't have minded if you hadn't gotten me anything." Faced with Alcryst's generosity, he smiled at his former ally with surprise and sincerity. Few acts of the kind ever transpired toward the children of Sombron, or now to the outward dregs of his legacy; one fell son and one fell daughter.

Nil suspected the Firenese prince and princess wouldn't have done what Alcryst was doing, bespoken the two-word celebration of life he was saying. Likely in their fiercely begotten grief they'd have spit on his shoes or worse - wished that he'd died in the Divine One's place. Touched by the difference, his expression fluttered shyly. Hands grasping at a gift forced upon them and still they were guiltier than Alcryst's. Their fingers grazed, faintly warm and faintly cold.

"I'm just over a thousand. You'd be shocked to know I'm still young for a Fell Dragon. But if it's any consolation, not even I could eat that many pieces of candy—this amount is perfect." But the second prince of Brodia did not see or hear Nil, trapped in his own head. The dragon could see that, when even a quiet 'Prince Alcryst?' and all its sympathy could not rustle him. So instead he watched him go.

As Alcryst disappeared from sight so too did his smile. He took next to his unearthing of the satchel. Alone, the void filled itself with the pop of a single piece into his mouth, his offhand interest in the flavor, the density and texture, the answer. For Nil's imagination had wandered a few childish speculations beyond reality; expecting some sour flavor, something drab and earthen, something corpselike, instead Prince Alcryst's gift remained as sweet as could be.

Candy from a Corrupted didn't taste so different.

⌜ ✥。.:*: – strength and alcryst were not two words one would string into the same sentence together. physical combat - especially within a close proximity of your opponent - was certainly not his forte, despite it being practically an art for his brother. he was always the epitome of brute strength whereas the prince's prerogative was long-range attacks with his bow and arrow. it came to be stagnant for him and his growth into the stronger person he idealized in his mind -- how would he ever expect himself to protect the people he cared about if he was not of the proper physique to fight with versatility? imagining himself with muscular arms and abs was laughable to even entertain -- and almost offensive to other strong people, such as his brother -- but nevertheless, when here at the new academy, he needed to push himself beyond his boundaries and try his hand at a new craft. no matter how frightening the prospect may be.

during class, he marveled at another blue lions student - admiring from afar how effortlessly and swift his body moved with utmost agility and power. blond wisps of hair glistened from sweat underneath the light as his blue eyes were focused on the task at hand. there was no doubt in alcryst's mind that he, too, likely came from a lineage of fighters and strength that passed down both of those traits into the next generation. part of him was envious of the stranger for that - cursing his blood for apparently being the outlier within his own family.

"why did you--?" alcryst asked without realizing that not only did his person of interest stop, but he was now looking at him - the unwarranted observer who was obviously interrupting his training like the cumbersome boy he always was. his face flushed with embarrassment as he nervously sifted his fingers through his silky blue hair. "o-oh, pardon me for staring, that was rude of me. but i just couldn't help but notice how strong you already are, given that you're in a class to be stronger. you must be a formidable opponent to face."

then, the boy impulsively stepped forward and found his voice that was buried deep inside of him - with a sense of urgency for help with attaining his personal goal. "i am alcryst," he paused for a breath as he was expecting an answer to his follow-up inquiry, "will you please spar from me? i am nowhere near to your level, or ever will i be… but i would appreciate training with you very much. unless, of course, i would be getting in the way of your routine, which i understand. please do not take pity on me if i am being a nuisance to you!" ⌟

My two main takeaways from the DLC trailer for Engage are 1. more maps for Engage is of course cool and exciting, and now there’s gonna be enough new content for me to justify spending the time going back to the game and 2. the story looks kinda cool! I doubt it’s gonna be all that deep or anything (if the base game is anything to go off) but it seems like it’ll at least be something to give the world of Elyos a little more personality and I think it’ll just be fun.

I held off on getting the DLC till now cuz I wanted to play more of the series after beating Engage (and I’m glad I did that) but come April 5th I think I’m gonna finally take the plunge and delve back into the game cuz now I’ll be able to get Soren and the rest of the emblems and do the whole new story, which will hopefully slay.

Devotion to some is in tender acts of kindness—in bouquets, in little gifts and in warm meals prepared. Devotion to Poe is blood in thy name. Ever equipped is she for slaughter with sense and sometimes without. His enemies are hers. Obviously; because his judgement is sound, and so she needs not question it.

Airily, she giggles. "How bold they always are. But such nasty little things will never stand a chance against us, will they?"

Her weapon of choice leaves her unbloodied, and so she can cradle his face for a kiss without fear.

Diamant would not approve of this at all. Alcryst imagines his brother enraged, shouting how these methods were part of the old Brodia he wanted to change. But in Alcryst’s mind, this is part of what’s necessary to ensure his brother’s vision is allowed to become reality. He will protect his brother from all who threaten him. He will eliminate any and all obstacles that stand to block his way. In the name of a brighter future Alcryst takes this burden. He wouldn’t want his brother’s hands sullied anyways.

But every member of the royal family must keep up appearances. Just because Diamant is the king does not mean Alcryst will go unnoticed. He feels guilty for leaving the dirty work to Poe, but she always insists she understands. Evil must be eliminated. They’ve always agreed on this.

“So it’s done then.” A weight is lifted off Alcryst’s shoulders. One less person to worry about, for Diamant to worry about. Poe leans forward, and he accepts her kiss eagerly. It’s thrilling to be with her when she’s fresh from a kill, Alcryst has realized. “And not a hair out of place,” he praises, then he fondly strokes his thumb over her cheek. “Thank you for doing what I cannot. I really am grateful…”
