Waking up alone and isolated from your crew was not the way you anticipated your time in Elegia to conclude. A vicious battle between the demonic presence of Tot Musica, under the command of the siren-song of Uta, was not what you envisioned for your getaway. If you knew this is what awaited you, you would have especially taken more consideration in inviting your new friend Brûlée along with you to the island.
Looking to your side, you noticed her form remained unmoving and unconscious as you stirred from your position lying in the grass. You immediately crawled over to her, your lethargy weighing you down and prompting your movements to be slow and staggered.
Just before you managed to reach her, you felt a presence behind you and a large hand placed on your shoulder. You slowly winced up, your mind in a haze as you turned your gaze towards the presence.
Charlotte Katakuri crouched down beside you and looked at his unconscious siblings just beyond you with an unreadable expression in his eyes. In his mind's eye, and in your own, you were all engaged in a vicious battle to take down the entity in perfect unison: you within the dream-land from the sing-sing fruit, and the reality combated by him externally with the Red-Hair pirates.
You felt him in your eyes, and he felt you in his; both your observation Haki working in perfect synchrony to take down the demon and save the civilians and marines only there to enjoy Uta’s music. He placed a little more pressure on your shoulders, pinching the muscle beneath his wide fingertips. In unison, you spoke immediately in a hurried tone.
“I’m so sorry, lord Charlotte,” you bowed your head and began to utter your sincere apologies to him, “If I knew this is what was waiting for us when I invited Brûlée here to the concert with me, I never would’ve-,” you started your hurried apology, only stopping when you focussed on his words.
“-I have never experienced fighting alongside such a skilled Haki user before. Observation and armament alike, you are truly a revered warrior,” he complimented you, shifting his grip on your shoulder to caress your cheek with his large hands. “Your grace on the battlefield and protection over my family did not go unnoticed here.”
Your breath hitched, darting your eyes between his before looking down to the bodies of his unconscious siblings. Shaking your head away from his grip, you slowly sink to your knees and bow your head to him further.
“I deserve no such praise, my lord,” you admit to him with a soft quiver in your tone and your mind racing with the aftershocks of adrenaline, “This is the second time your sister Brûlée has been injured because of me, and Oven did not fare much better.” Katakuri collected your chin beneath his fingers and angled your face up to gaze into his eyes.
“They are unscathed,” he searched within your expression and thumbed over the apple of your cheek, “And they are unharmed physically.” He leaned forward and lowered himself down from his crouched position to kneel in front of you. “I am grateful for your friendship with my sister, please do not ever apologize to me for it.”
A weight lifted off your shoulders as you darted your eyes between his, feeling something within his orbs suppressed below the surface. You dart your eyes down to the fur shroud covering his lips before returning to gaze up into his hazel-colored orbs.
“Thank you, lord Charlotte,” you hang your head once more, choosing to honor him further with a low bow. He chased your gaze by lowering his head and angling his chin down, the shroud loosening over his lips and revealing a soft, toothy smile.
“Please call me by my name,” he smiled further, both of you not noticing the two other Charlotte siblings stirring beside you and glancing up at you. You sighed, a small and shy smile rising to your lips, as you looked down to view his sharpened teeth and eel-like jaw. A soft rosy blush of shame and embarrassment grew on his cheeks as he noticed your gaze down on his lips.
Wincing away, he retracted his hand and attempted to relift his shroud back over his lips, halting when he felt your gentle hand reach forward. You looked between his eyes, slowly adding a soft amount of pressure on his hand and softly urging him to reveal his face to you once more.
“Would…” you began, searching his now revealed face with more purpose and a soft flush rising to your nose, ears and cheeks, “...Would you like to stay with me a while, Katakuri? Just until your siblings regain consciousness?” Katakuri looked beyond you to where Brûlée and Oven were looking at him, immediately falling to their backs and closing their eyes to feign unconsciousness.
He smiled a soft, knowing smile and leaned forward, prompting your hand to raise from his hand up to cup his cheek.
“I would like that very much,” he whispered your name, pressing his forehead to yours and closing his eyes upon impact.
The connection between you was strong and powerful, short sparks of ignition tingling between the press of his head and the flames of new beginnings rising in your heart. You both raised soft smiles in unison, in view of his ‘sleeping’ siblings, and your crew now catching up with you in your place on the island.
Katakuri now knew it was not only a possibility to have his dreams potentially become a reality with armament haki, but you may feel affection for him as he did feel for you. Breathing each other's air and holding one another close, you felt at peace and hopeful of what new beginning these sparks meant for the both of you.

One Piece Film: Red and What It Meant for Usopp
Part 2 (TL;DR)
(beware spoilers!!!) | Part 1
Tumblr media
If there’s one fandom consensus that I wholeheartedly agree with, it’s regarding Usopp’s screen time in the One Piece movies. He’s a scene-stealer and always manages to do something cool or worthwhile. If you’ve watched the movies, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
The movie I want to focus on is "One Piece Film: Red." This is the movie where Usopp meets his dad amid battle, and they do that iconic Observation Haki thing together. It’s a scene I rewatch time and time again.
"One Piece Film: Red" is many things: fun, ambitious, messy, high-budget, and a wild ride. Uta’s character design was rad, and the overall vibe with the other characters was well-executed.
Tumblr media
But in hindsight, I noticed that the movie did a lot of foreshadowing, especially concerning the final battle where everyone tries to take down Tot Musica. We see most of the Straw Hats with power-ups and battle moves that weren’t canonically revealed until the Wano arc was nearing its end. Here are some of the foreshadowed power-ups:
Luffy: We get a preview of Luffy’s Gear 5.
Zoro: Demonstrates his mastery of Enma and Conqueror’s Haki.
Sanji: Uses advanced fire attacks, reminiscent of "Ifrit Jambe."
Nami: Shows her integration with Zeus, who finally gets to shine.
Robin: Showcases "Demonio Fleur," which she uses against Black Maria.
Brook: Utilizes more of his soul-related abilities, similar to his actions in Wano.
Koby: Even Koby had a bit of foreshadowing regarding his growth, hinting at his future role as a Garp-like figure to Luffy’s Roger.
Tumblr media
Given all this, I wondered why Usopp didn’t receive a similar foreshadowing in the movie. The answer seems clear: Usopp’s “power-up” or significant moment is being saved for a much later, possibly even more impactful, event.
Many fans speculate (and yes, I’m using some “Oda said” hearsay as a source here) that the people behind the One Piece movies have insight into how the series will end or what the One Piece actually is. If Usopp didn’t showcase his Observation Haki in the Wano arc like he did in the movie, it likely means Oda is reserving his moment for a bigger payoff.
Consider the scene where Usopp and Yasopp perform incredible Observation Haki feats together—something we haven’t seen canonically. Not even Katakuri could maintain such a level of Observation Haki for long. There’s also the part where Katakuri tells Shanks he can see through his sister’s eyes, but only for a few seconds, to which Shanks replies, “You’re not the only one who has Observation Haki.” It then cuts to Yasopp saying, “Yeah. My son has it, but he’s too panicked.”
This interaction might hint at the unique potential of Usopp’s Haki. Perhaps Observation Haki users can link up with others they’re related to, or maybe it’s just a matter of Usopp honing his abilities. Either way, the fact that this was showcased in the movie but not yet in the manga suggests that Usopp’s true power is yet to be revealed.
Another point that stands out to me is the conversation between Katakuri and Shanks. Shanks’ words wouldn’t necessarily lead anyone to believe he was specifically talking about Yasopp. We didn't even know if Yasopp was aware of his son's abilities. Yes, the movies aren’t canonical, but still, it’s intriguing. When Yasopp mentions that his son has Observation Haki but is too nervous to use it effectively, it raises questions. How does Yasopp know this about Usopp, given they haven’t spoken in over a decade (if ever)?
Tumblr media
What also stood out was the scene where Usopp is running and says, "If we only did something to Tot Musica’s legs, we could defeat him” (paraphrasing here). Usopp then stops, tells himself to stay calm, presses his fingers to his temples, and suddenly, he’s seeing through his dad’s eyes. Yasopp exclaims, "D*mn, son! You finally managed to link up with me?! Finally!” (Paraphrasing here). They then guide everyone on where to attack Tot Musica’s limbs, resulting in a spectacular team effort. Afterward, Shanks remarks, “Yasopp and his son work well together,” with a thoughtful and brooding expression.
Tumblr media
None of this is canonical, but it makes me wonder about Usopp’s story in the main series. Does Shanks know the limits of Yasopp’s Observation Haki? Can Yasopp do things with it that even Shanks can’t? Given Yasopp’s role as a sniper, it makes sense. In real-world terms, snipers use spotters to help locate targets and assess their surroundings. Yasopp’s Observation Haki might serve a similar purpose, acting as a “spotter” for pinpoint accuracy.
Additionally, considering the non-canonical nature of the movies (last time I'll mention this), what if they have their own internal canon? In "One Piece: Red," what if Yasopp and Usopp had already talked before the events of the movie? Yasopp might have advised Usopp to train his Observation Haki and stay calm to tap into its full potential. That’s why, during the fight with Tot Musica, Usopp reminds himself to stay calm before successfully linking up with his father. Usopp’s smile when he realizes he’s connected with his dad, and Yasopp calling him a “knucklehead,” suggests a prior relationship and training.
This scenario could potentially work in the canon of the main story. It opens up possibilities for Usopp’s future development, hinting at a deeper mastery of Observation Haki and a stronger connection with his father.

Hi I love your ASL god au! .I do Look forward to the fics this au leads to.
But I’ve been deep diving into it and i have so many questions.
I know you probably have a lot of questions so I understand if you don’t answer.
My questions are about Uta.Well mostly her and about a claim becoming a god.
Any way I remember you mentioned that Uta had ascended to godhood so she was human once. Was Nika the one to claim her?
As the ‘voice of change’ does that mean she can use voice of all? ( since she wears headphone’s because it’s to overwhelming it makes sense).
If she can does she use it to talk to the other gods? ( like telepathy between them possibly?)
((I can also see her using it and unintentionally contacting the gods , nika specially leading to them meeting. Also Nika annoying the hell out of her since she’s the only one who can hear him.))
What’s her relationship with Ace Sabo and Law? Her and luffys relationship is like siblings so is it the same with Ace and Sabo? ( she would technically be the youngest after luffy maybe).
Does she fight?
Do they visit her at all during the 2 year time skip?
Is Tot musica a god? Or something else?
Does Uta still release it like in the movie?
Also was she upset about missing out at marine ford? ( it looked like the ASL we’re having fun)
Do the claimed have a mark on their body? Like a symbol to indicate which god they belong too?
What is the transition from claimed to god like?
How do they know what god they are like title , domain ,patrons?
Do they get a new name as god?
Not a question but just something I can’t stop thinking about. I know it’s probably not true but I head canon that Uta was the first claimed to ascend.
(((Because I also have a bit of interesting scenario - though it’s probably to simple to be what actually happens. When the claimed ascend—that she was Luffys claimed and something happened ( she got severely injured maybe ) he brought her to Raphtel and she suddenly grew wings from the claim mark on her back.
Uta asks Nika what happened to her, freaking out but unfortunately He has no idea and ends calling his brothers for help.
Tsuisu and Astrus have made claims
but they haven’t seen anything like this. So Unfortunately they’re not entirely sure either. So the brothers call Taesis for help.
when Taesis looks her over he says she’s no longer human. In fact Uta is more like one of them, a god.
And they are like WTF! That’s possible?!? They can do that?!
the 4 gods are freaking out over this new information meanwhile Uta is having a mental crisis over no longer being human( suddenly becoming a god is probably overwhelming especially if you end gaining new limbs/ wings). And because the almighty gods are all acting like idiots.)))The image has me laughing.
Sorry if that’s a lot. I’ve been obsessing over this au since you started and I tend to ramble. I know it’s a lot so I completely understand if you don’t answer everything.
Woah that is a lot of questions! Let's see!
Any way I remember you mentioned that Uta had ascended to godhood so she was human once. Was Nika the one to claim her? As the ‘voice of change’ does that mean she can use voice of all? ( since she wears headphone’s because it’s to overwhelming it makes sense).
Yeah! As you said, it is overwhelming for her and the headphone help tone it down/filter it.
If she can does she use it to talk to the other gods? ( like telepathy between them possibly?) ((I can also see her using it and unintentionally contacting the gods , nika specially leading to them meeting. Also Nika annoying the hell out of her since she’s the only one who can hear him.))
While I think the gods are able to communicate in a sense with each other, it's not direct telepathy. They can sense each other and feel vague emotions and ideas not its not through words. They don't use it to actively talk to one other. After all they can kinda just...teleport.
What’s her relationship with Ace Sabo and Law? Her and luffys relationship is like siblings so is it the same with Ace and Sabo? ( she would technically be the youngest after luffy maybe).
At first they kinda treated like like a stray cat Luffy brought home one day but eventually they warmed up to her. She is indeed like a younger sibling to them as well, albeit not as close as Luffy is to them, but close enough.
Does she fight?
Yes :)
Do they visit her at all during the 2 year time skip?
The other gods do! They don't leave her hanging by herself!
Is Tot musica a god? Or something else?
Something else. Primordial deity or something.
Does Uta still release it like in the movie?
Nope! She's sitting on Elegia to keep Tot Musica at bay.
Also was she upset about missing out at marine ford? ( it looked like the ASL we’re having fun)
100% She was so sad she missed out on a chance to put the fear of gods into those marine's head.
Do the claimed have a mark on their body? Like a symbol to indicate which god they belong too?
I haven't decided on this yet! But considering this is an open to interpretation AU, if peeps want to give people marks, I would be totally fine with it!
But as of right now for my cannon? No, no physical marks.
What is the transition from claimed to god like?
For Uta? Dying. Also pretty rough as divinity would need to burn the mortality away bit by bit. :)
How do they know what god they are like title , domain ,patrons?
Rock paper scissors. Jk. Honestly, idk, how does Greek gods divy up domains?
Do they get a new name as god?
Yeah! I'd like to think the earth, sea, and/or sky gifts them their god names.
Tsuisu and Astrus have made claims but they haven’t seen anything like this. And they are like WTF! That’s possible?!? They can do that?!
Oh that's very cute! Really silly to imagine god!Luffy panicking over Uta.
Thanks so much for the ask and I'm so sorry it took me so long to answer! T^T

ROR humans x Fem!reader who had ability of singing. She heal the humans with soft melody after they battle the god. But when It’s her turn in arena, she sing a dark melody of tot musica and easily defeat two gods who decide to take down one human and they didn’t see what’s coming.
If you don’t know tot musica, here, it’ll show you.👇
https://youtube.com/watch?v=V9_ZpqfqHFI&si=EnSIkaIECMiOmarE
-You have proven yourself useful with your fellow human fighters, the ones who had managed to survive this far, using your own abilities, singing a gentle lullaby song that soothed their pain, soothing them to sleep, and once asleep, you sang your secret song, one that could heal the wounds of others.
-You kept that song a secret, not wanting to be used as a tool, so if you used it, you always made sure they were asleep first, which was simply done with a lullaby.
-You didn’t look like a warrior, more like a popstar, but you didn’t mind, you liked it when others would underestimate it you, you liked seeing their shocked faces.
-Kojiro and Jack were both shocked when they woke up from what they both considered as the best naps of their lives, to find their wounds completely healed.
-When Kojiro questioned you about what happened you just gave him a bright grin, “It’s a secret~” which made him chuckle softly, but he thanked you, patting your head, it made you feel warm inside, getting soft affections like that from him.
-You had offered your services to the gods, telling Brunnhilde that you didn’t mind helping them too, which did touch her that you didn’t like seeing anyone in pain. Thor passed on your help, as did Zeus.
-Shiva didn’t have any say in the matter, his wives just gave him a look that shut him up and you were quick to put him to sleep. Once you asked his wives to give you a bit of privacy, you sang your healing song.
-You were able to stabilize Shiva and helped the massive wounds of his arms, since they were so massive, it would take several sessions, but with your first song, the valkyries were able to take over and hooked him up to machines that would help the regeneration of his arms speed up.
-His wives were so grateful for your help which made you smile warmly, glad that you were able to help, which made them pause and realize, just like their husband, there were some humans that were… different, special, honorable, like you and Raiden.
-When it was your time to fight, you came out with spotlights shining down upon you, twirling as if you were walking out to sing in one of your concerts, not a fight for your life, a fight for humanity itself.
-Your opponent came out, an evil, vile god of shadows, who thought it was a joke to fight such a weak human, especially after so many strong human warriors.
-You quickly proved that you weren’t just a cute face, delivering a whirlwind guillotine kick, which was shocking enough but you were in your platform boots of all things!!
-As you were fighting you kept feeling something grab at your ankles, keeping you in place so your opponent could hit you.
-You were able to catch what was grabbing you, grabbing your opponent as well and throwing them both over your shoulder and the stadium was quickly in an uproar, seeing the twins who had been cheating the whole match.
-The gods themselves were furious, as these idiot twins dishonored them for their actions.
-You were mad now, upset that these two managed to trick you, embarrass you.
-You inhaled deeply and began to sing, unlike the cheery poppy song you came into your match with, your song was deeper, darker, edgier, reality warping around you.
-The twins tried to attack but you always seemed to vanish, appearing in another section of the nightmare you were creating with your song, a monster appearing around them, one they tried to attack, but quickly failed.
-Your beast made quick work of these twins while you stood on his head, a bit slumped over, as this song, Tot Musica, always took a lot out of you.
-The gods and even the other humans were terrified of this beast you had created by just singing it into reality.
-Once declared the winner, your monster faded and once on the ground, you fell to your knees, gasping hard, feeling exhausted, not paying to much attention to the cheers around you.
-Once backstage, Kojiro was the one to meet you and he surprised you by picking you up princess style and carrying you to the med-bay where your wounds were dealt with and you fell asleep quickly afterwards, trying to regain your strength.

Propaganda under the cut:
Shion Kamiya
- Shion is a cool type idol, but she's mostly an actress rather than a singer which you don't see often! I mean she does sing sometimes because idol, but y'know.
Uta
- She was so popular that her plan to force everyone she could into a "perfect" dream world via her power (which is based on her singing and has to be in person to work) was wildly successful, especially for her first in-person concert! Nobody knew what she looked like and she was still considered the top idol!
- Her singing voice is fucking ADO need i say more
- She's got daddy issues and superpowers that trap people into her own pocket dimension when they hear her sing.
- This is my top 3 of Uta's songs

So, today I went to watch Film Red at the cinema and it was amazing and I loved it and here is why I loved it! Yes, I read some reviews, some that liked it, some that hated it, and I was going in expecting it not to be as good as it was in the end.
1. Uta (and Shanks)
Some people don't like her. I get it. What I read before watching the movie made me dislike her too but I didn't want to have an opinion without watching the movie. People say it doesn't make sense that Uta exist. Why? Because Shanks had her on his ship and wouldn't take Luffy. I also read that people thought she was childish and a brat.
Honestly, of course she is a "brat". She mentally wasn't able to grow up. Not at all. She basically witnessed the death of a whole kingdom. People were probably still screaming from being burned alive as she ran to get to Shanks. Add the trauma of being abandoned and the feelings of betrayal... She only had Gordon after that and having only one person to grow up with doesn't really give place to mature and grow as a person especially as traumatized as she was. Also, Shanks would never take Luffy because Luffy is Garps grandson. What do you think would have happened if Shanks had taken Luffy with him? He would have gotten the Marine on his back to the extreme. And from that one filmstill of Shanks seeing Rayleighs and Gol D. Rogers we see we can assume that Shanks was found himself just like Uta and Shanks in a way wanted to give back by taking on a child himself.
Uta never had the chance to see the world, meet other peopele and from what we know she barely recognized the tenryuubito. Yeah, she did in the end, but she didn't care, because she was so detached from reality. And what is someone who never grows up? Naive. So of course her behaviour screams out naivete.
2. Klabautermann
I honestly believe what we saw of Merry and what we saw in Film Red isn't the rest of what Oda has planned regarding Klabautermänner. Especially after seeing this incredibly cute personification of the Sunny.
3. Utas heritage (Manga spoiler ahead)
Who is up-to-date with the Manga or at least has seen the end of the Wano arc knows about Lunarians. What I think? After seeing Utas design with the wings? Utas half white hair? Why she was able to sing the runes? Why she is so powerful? (Because honestly she could take over the world.) Uta is half Lunarian. We know Oda was more involved in this movie than the others. And as a designer/artist myself and knowing Oda designed her himself it's safe to assume he didn't do anything without reason. He delibirately designed Uta the way he did. Maybe I'm wrong but it's a theory I can confidently believe in.
4. Tot Musica
Probably an ancient weapon (or an attempt of one, a prototype maybe?). In the newest chapter we saw something in regards to the ancient civilization that ruled during the Void Century. When the Strawhats and the others were in the library as Robin read what was written on the ceiling the guardians that popped up to fight and protect looked very similar to what we saw at the end of the newest chapter. And Uta *sang the ancient runes.* What's up with that?
5. Utas death
She consciously chose death. She didn't want to live feeling the heavy, heavy guilt of what she's done. I honestly don't think I could have lived like this too. Because she is responsible for the death of a whole nation and of trapping so many people in her dream world. What she did came out of a place of desperation to be happy. She is an incredibly tragic character. Shanks understood that hence his smile. He could have yelled at her but he didn't. Because he us an incredibly empathetic man who didn't deserve to watch his child die. But he did. He stayed with her through it all. God, what a Chad. I fell in love all over again with him and overall with One Piece.
But somehow I'm glad she died by saving them, even if she was the initial cause.
So, yeah... My thoughts on Film Red.

One Piece Film Red Thoughts
I was waiting to catch up with Wano before watching this movie but decided to because it was there, and it was everything I had worked it up to be in my head.
It was so much fun to finally hear the context of Ado's song with the story. The Sing-Sing fruit and the tie to Tot Musica was an interesting ability to explore in the film. It has all the hallmarks of a tragic backstory for Uta which made me cry.
So many of my favorite charcters were there, especially seeing Koby take direction of everyone just shows how capable he is. I love the moment Yasopp and Usopp connect with observation haki , like Katakuri and Brulee. The boss battle, in both the Sing-Sing and Real World and everyione hitting it in unison was so satisfying. Seeing Shanks just be in action and parallel with Luffy in Gear 5 was must peak.
The outfits for everyone just popped off so hard, especially Uta's transformed ones. I will be on the search for Film Red pins to collect going forward.
I will definitely be turning this into my background comfort movie on rotation. It's just such a fun movie, and also Vice Admiral Issho is still the GOAT of the Navy.

This is a follow-up to my previous post on One Piece Film: Red and Uta.
I feel what makes the tragedy so effective is how ultimately there was absolutely no malice in any of the characters that set off the events: Shanks just wanted the best or Uta and shield her from trauma, Gordon just loved music and Uta just wanted to sing.
I know that Shanks is the second biggest mystery of the series – the One Piece itself being the biggest – but even for someone who never saw the series, the movie does depict him as a force for good. So, when someone sees Uta’s flashback scene, they ought to realize there’s something wrong. Shanks was younger and, arguably, less mature when he did that decision.
From what I understood, he assumed that Uta would never sing again if she learned the truth, so, in order to make her dreams real, he took the blame and shame of being the responsible for destroying Elegia. Even if Uta hated him because what she thought he did, he just still loved her. This would qualify as “noble lie”, but…it didn’t work. Well, it kinda worked until she learned the truth.
Gordon also was such an interesting character. As a king and lover of music, he couldn’t destroy Tot Musica’s sheet. This is a unique type of error, an error so unique that nobody in the world, but him, could make. He admitted that, while sobbing, he couldn’t destroy it because he just loved music. So, when the Straw Hats, especially Usopp, told him he was still the best father figure he could to Uta, that scene really hits different.
But I wonder if destroying Tot Musica’s sheet would make any difference. Tot Musica itself isn’t really a character. Would it be difficult to have it sprout cheesy one-liners while declaring its world-destroying intentions? It is eerily silent, in spite of all the song it makes. Instead, Tot Musica is more of a force of nature than anything else. As much as you can’t bargain or converse with a hurricane or an earthquake, you can’t bargain with Tot Musica – it seems to be a demon born from music itself and all the sorrow and madness it brought along, along with all its joy and happiness. Tot Musica was attracted by Uta’s singing and the sheet just appeared to her, as if it was fate happening. So, if Gordon had enough fortitude to burn the sheet, what if an identical sheet would appear besides him just to mock him? As long there is music, Tot Musica will lurk in its shadow.
So, only a person who loved music a lot could be its vessel. As I said, Uta picking the cursed sheet was something almost inevitable. There was no devil tempting or goading her. It was her fault for something that wasn’t even wrong – memes of “did nothing wrong” abound, but this case earns it. And since she was possessed and destroyed Elegia out of her love of music and accident, not out of malice, the guilt would’ve break her. This explains Shanks’s decision – it was a wrong decision, but it wasn’t a 100% wrong decision.
And when she learned the truth, she broke. The weight of her guilt and shame just broke her. Without anyone to talk about her feelings, she saw nothing but despair in her future. And, as a performer, she had to combine her desire of making everyone happy with her music and her suicide into a spectacle. Even in her despair, she still wanted the best for the people, independent of anything that made them different (I think it’s kinda funny that the audience started to realize there was something wrong when she antagonized a terayubito).
But, even so, I felt she was never satisfied with her decision. Despair and sleep deprivation made her quite unhinged, but she still wanted someone to help her. Rewatching the scene where Shanks finally appears, she seemed to quickly smile out of relief, before resuming her character.
I talked to a friend of mine about it and she said that the plot seems to be following the “kisshotenketsu” type of story. In that, there’s not necessarily a “moral”, but the story is structured around a set-up and then overturning everything you knew with one big twist, and the consequences of that twist. In this case, the real story behind Elegia’s destruction, and how none of the three main characters involved had absolutely any malicious intentions. And the entire movie isn’t about redeeming Uta - as much as it is Luffy's objective -, but dealing with the consequences of that tragedy. Still, Uta was able to regain control of her destiny in the end and spare the world from the consequences of her actions, even if it cost her life.
It’s obvious the road to hell is paved in good intentions, but without good intentions there’s no way out of this road.

How Uta from One Piece Film Red Saved My Online Social Life
Tumblr media
WARNING: This post contains massive spoilers for the recent One Piece movie, One Piece Film Red. If you haven’t seen it, please don’t click on the “Keep reading” link. Thank you.
One Piece is an anime I had never gotten into. That’s not to say I don’t like it, but when something like that has over 900 episodes, I would rather spend my energy on other shows. Then came the ads on my social media feed for the new movie. Out of curiosity, I watched one of them, and something caught my eye. In the trailer, there was the series’ own take on a J-pop idol, Uta, that the main characters absolutely loved. In case you didn’t know, I love J-Pop music, especially from idol groups, so I believed this movie was a perfect fit for me.
As for the actual story, since the trailer I saw didn’t show much, I thought the story would be about the characters trying to stop evil forces from ruining Uta’s concert. Boy, was I wrong…in a good way, since this character’s arc would change my life.
A bit of context about my real life before we talk about the movie and how Uta connects to me. Before seeing One Piece Film Red, I was absolutely bothered by any form of death in media. This came from a time where one of my grandparents died after I saw Bridge to Terebitha in theaters when I was a kid, and in that movie, one of the main characters died. As I grew older and discovered social media, instead of talking to my parents about deaths or near-death scenarios in movies, I would constantly use my friends and vent about it to them, even threatening to hurt myself to make myself happy, despite being fearful of hurting myself in real life. A recent example of this was venting to a friend of mine all the time about the death of Topaz from Thor: Ragnarok, and how it was unfair that Rachel House broke her contract with Marvel to do other things, when she could have been the next Rocket Raccoon in the MCU due to her sense of humor. Unfortunately, I ruined the character of Topaz for this friend with my venting to the point of her hating the character. I have gotten over Topaz now, but that’s just one example of how I hurt my friends.
Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s talk about Uta. In the movie, Uta is first seen as an innocent pop star everyone loves. After Luffy and some other pirates interrupt the concert, we see Uta’s true self for the first time, considering pirates to be bad. However, in this case, she only traps the “evil” pirates, not the Straw Hats, since Luffy was her childhood friend, and was not doing anything to try to disrupt the concert.
Uta’s goals are similar to what I imagine in my mind sometimes. After the incident with the bad pirates, she points out she is doing an eternal concert, which is actually a disguised way of her actual plan: creating a world that is happy all the time. Like her, I wish there was a universe where there was no death and the fictional characters who I loved who had died in media could be alive. Unfortunately, that is not possible.
Like me, Uta had a traumatic event she lived through that changed the view of the world. Earlier, I described that my grandpa’s death that I learned about watching Bridge to Terebitha traumatized me so much, I hated any form of death in the media. Unlike me, Uta’s traumatic experience was not what Uta originally was told about. In Uta’s mind, she thought her father had abandoned her after destroying Elegia with his pirate crew, thanks to a lie Gordon had been forced to tell her. In actuality, she had summoned Tot Musica with her singing, and that destroyed Elegia. Like how Uta hated pirates after thinking that they destroyed Elegia, I absolutely hated death and wished that I could prevent it, even wanting to live eternally.
When Uta learns the truth about this, it reminds me of how I blame myself for some characters’ deaths, even though like how Uta blamed herself for the earlier Tot Musica incident, it was mainly someone else’s fault. I think if I yelled louder at the screen, if I were there with them, they would still be alive. But unfortunately, it is all fake, and nothing I would do would impact those scenes.
The scene where Uta goes berserk after people in the audience say they want to go home and floods the stadium also reflects how I feel sometimes. Uta says she wants a world with no school, work, or horrible things. This is just like how I didn’t want bad things to happen in media, mainly the death of characters, only to want bad things to happen to them instead of what I thought was bad. For example, in Sherlock Gnomes, instead of Moriarty and his gargoyles potentially drowning, I wanted all the gnomes stuck inside Tower Bridge to be crushed to death, that way he can be alive and happy. Another example is when I wanted 22 from Soul to stay a lost soul forever because that sad and lonely form was relatable to me, more than her normal form. The flood in the scene is kind of like how I wanted made bad things want to happen to the protagonists, like how Uta’s audience was forcibly turned into cute things.
The effects of the Wakeshroom causing emotional rage remind me of my venting causing me to go crazy and verbally attack others about stupid things. I would ask “Why did this happen? Why did he/she die?”, and people would be mad at me. Some even temporarily blocked me or threatened to block me because I was a toxic influence on them. This shows that I have to be aware of what triggers me to have these venting fits, and try not to do them.
During Tot Musica, the audience says they don’t like Uta’s ideal world, and ask her to stop. In addition, one of the pirates asks how Uta’s voice can be used for such harm, showing how the most innocent people can act like such monsters at times. This reminded me of how people thought of me due to my venting: an annoying angry person. I regret being that, and I wanted to change my ways after seeing how Uta changed throughout the movie.
A detail that told me that “people can’t save everyone” was in one of Uta’s powers in the fake world. She has healing powers that fail when tried to use on an injured person in the real world. Not only could she not save the person, she realizes that she hurt others, much like how I hurt people with my words.
At the end of the movie, Uta is asked to take a potion and go to sleep to save herself. But seeing how everyone is still fighting because their souls were consumed by Tot Musica, Uta does the best heroic sacrifice I’ve seen in any media: singing to save everyone’s souls. Initially, I hated this trope for The Rocky Horror Show’s line about how stupid sacrifices are. However, Uta made me see how this trope can help make a story heartwarming and show how heroic a character can be. It shows what heroes can do to save the world or someone else’s life.
Now what lesson should I learn from this? Well, there are two lessons:
I learned that if you act insane and complain about things in the world, people will see you as a bad person. You should try and change your behavior and see the bad things in media as accurately portraying life and the struggles we face every day, instead of something to complain about.
Another lesson I can learn from the movie is seen in a flashback in the film. In this flashback, we hear Shanks telling Uta that peace and equality don’t exist, but her voice can bring happiness. This states that how even though we can’t have a perfect world, there are things in it that can make us happy and forget the bad times. Sure, the world isn’t perfect, but it’s our world, and we should try to see the light in bad situations.
I have one thing to say after all of this: thank you, Gorō Taniguchi for making a film that made me realize the awfulness of my bad behaviors, and thank you to Amanda Lee, Kaori Nazuka, and Ado for bringing to life such a relatable character. You really changed how I behaved socially.

Just watched One Piece: Red
Idol concert, One Piece edition
I mean, I did know about that before I watched it but I didn't expect it'd be as accurate as that phrase.
I'm still amazed that I could go so long seeing Uta fanarts everywhere and still not getting spoiler whatsoever until I actually watched it.
Around 30 minutes into the movie, that's when it interests me.
This is a movie for you Bepo fans. Fucking finally.
And for you Koby fans as well.
And for Shanks and the Red-Haired Pirates well. But ngl when Red was first teased, I really wished it was Shanks-centric, as impossible as it sounded. He is still a very important figure tho in the movie. Probably the movie is to hype Shanks and his crew's role in the new era for the final arc.
Uta and Luffy's friendship is so cute! Her teasing him whenever he loses.
I joke a lot about Law's fashionable styles but here I was like "Law what the hell are you wearing lmaoo are you trying to be Sunny Go 2.0"
Uta's design is adorable! Truly idol-like.
I enjoy the songs too. Especially the ones on the crazier side, if you get what I mean.
Spoilers below
I could smell that Uta is some kind of messiah-wannabe from her first appearance and performance. But about being batshit crazy about it, I really didn't see it coming. I didn't know that she's essentially the villain of the movie, a stark contrast to previous movies' middle aged male villains.
Like I said, after the first 30 mins, the vibe starts to change, the song starts to shift its tone, the animation gets trippier, and everyone's initial perception of Uta is smashed into pieces.
Her plan is basically pull an isekai on the entire world and put them in her dream world where her concert and free food are 24/7. Only that her isekai version is the one where the transported people go into coma first. Then die, if-when- she dies as well.
But as warped as she is, she really doesn't want anyone to die. See how desperate she is to heal people who get shot right in front her eyes.
Juxtaposed with her own plan, she doesn't seem to realize that her own plan also involves depriving her viewers of their daily life and in the end, their actual life because nobody runs the world when everyone's asleep.
Does she even know that the mushrooms aren't gonna keep her awake forever? At this point I’m assuming that she is incapable to spot the flaws and hypocrisy in her ambition, either due to self-centered idealism or simple but deadly ignorance. As far as she is concerned, she is just moving people from point A to point B, the version of them in front of her still alive.
Well, girl is raised all alone for like a decade in a razed country and forms her own opinion after binge-watching the Youtube equivalent of One Piece without adult supervision or another point of view. No wonder she becomes like that.
I know Gordon did his best but man, he could have supervise Uta more. There is the huge burden from the incident and hiding the truth from her so maybe that's why. But you have the voice of THE Kenjiro Tsuda so that's a plus.
The Red-Haired Pirates are the MVP. Not gonna lie.
The Tot Musica scene really reminds me of Madoka Magica for some reason. Actually, when Uta starts to slip, that's some Madoka Magica shit already for me.
The last scene of Uta and Luffy. :'''((( IIRC he didn't smile did he...
No, the movie doesn't answer whether or not Shanks and Makino are in a relationship, or if her child's father is possibly him.
In terms of overall hype and execution, this movie isn't better than its direct predecessor Stampede (which is the best OP movie imo and I never put any expectation that Red can best it), Strong World or Z. But in terms of trippy, darker-ish tone, it brings a fresh air as it reminds me of Baron Omatsuri (which is still way more fucked up tho).
TL:DR Maybe if I have a voice like Ado, I too would be convinced I could save the world with it.

I just finished watching Film Red and holy shit I was pleasantly surprised. Like, it took me a bit to get into the movie, but when I got into it, I was into it.
Anyways short review/thoughts:
Ado put her whole pussy into all of those songs- especially the last two.
Luffy barbecuing was so cute. I love him.
There are a lot of cute Luffy moments in Film Red and I was living for them.
Some of the 3D animation at the beginning had me laughing ngl.
But some of it was really fucking good. The animation in general was amazing, especially at the end.
I laughed at the Franky fart. He is the only one that can do fart jokes.
Brook’s outfits were so good. He is so fashionable. And his fight scenes were really good. I love Brook. <3
Uta is a cool character and idk why Ado was getting hate on Twitter.
I loved this movie. 8.5/10
(Spoilers under the cut)
The five seconds of Gear 5 had me foaming at the mouth. I was so excited. The one thing I was really hoping for was Gear 5 and I am so glad I got to see it.
The little snippet of Shank’s backstory????? I was expecting more but I will take any scraps I get at this point lmao.
USOPP AND YASOPP UGHHHHHHH I love father-son bonding in the middle of battle. <333
And Katakuri and Brûlée???? I love Brûlée so much, I’m glad she was in the movie omg.
Same with Big Mom, even if she wasn’t there for very long.
Bepo and Bartolomeo (especially Bartolomeo) were really funny.
And LAW OMG idk why but I was not expecting him to be there.
Expanding a bit more with the Uta thing; I really liked her as a villain. Like, yeah, it was predictable, but it was done well imo. She’s an enjoyable character/villain.
And fuck man that Tot Musica song was so good.
