Genshin impact and Harry Potter prompt, where I eff with some cannon timelines. Let’s imagine that when Draco had to identify Harry in 7th year, that Voldie knew that he’d lied about not knowing it was Harry. So as punishment, he threw Draco into the Veil, like Sirius was. His parents are distraught and as the war goes on, begin to rebel. During the final battle, when Narcissa sees if Harry is dead, she lies and says he’s dead. And when Harry attacks, Lucius and Narcissa attack Voldie, making Harry easily beat him. Everyone find out that they only continued to follow the dude bc they were scared he’d kill Draco, and when he did, they turned on him. They’re given a light sentence, but the pain of losing draco causes them to live a quiet and morose life outside the wizarding world.

Meanwhile, draco lands on that tiny island outside the mainland near Mond. He find a decomposing body( which is Sirius) and buries it. Then he tries to find a way off the island. Instead, he accidentally wakes up the eye of the storm dude that’s there, and it attacks him, carrying him to starsnach cliff. When it drops him and tries to kill him, a passing knight saves him, and drives off the eye. The knight is Kaeya, who was going to the cliff to get away from everyone for awhile, since it’s been two years since Crepus died. He finds draco, a scared kid like he was in the past and takes him in. Draco learns about the new world he’s in and him and Kaeya hit it off, becoming great friends. He ends up joining the knights, and becomes one of the outriders before Ambers grandfather disappears. He trains as an outrider and while playing with Amber one day, gets a dendro vision. Then when ambers grandfather disappears, draco steps up and is promoted as the Outrider Captain. He takes to the role readily, becoming the best scout in the knights. He’s there for 4 years, and when Varka goes on the expedition, draco disappears. Turns out signora had taken his vision and the fatui tried to kill him bc he was on to their plans. He somehow gets thrown back through the veil and bc they took his vision, loses his mind in the process.

In the HP world, he appears in the ministry, confused and insane. Everyone thinks he became mad from the veil and his parents come to take him home and take care of him. He eventually becomes known as the only wizard to return from the veil.

In the GI world, the knights are distraught that one of their captains disappear and the outrider division goes into decline. Varka doesn’t disband it, but he takes a majority of them. Amber becomes the last one in Mondstadt after that. Then a year later, after the traveller comes back from sumeru, Kaeya and Amber convince the traveller to help them find Draco. They know he’s alive bc they recently found his vision.

Eventually, the GI group find their way to the HO world and get Draco back. He goes back to the GI world and Mond gets their outrider captain back.

The tombstone in front of Kaeya didn't answer back, but in some fanciful part of his mind, the same one that he sometimes allowed to believe the dead in Mond truly went back to the wind, Crepus could hear him.

"It's been a little while. I-... think, this year, you'd actually be proud of me." There's a slight smile that turned at Kaeya's lips as his gaze fell, to the ground, "Diluc and I talked. Finally, I know. I cried like a child." He shook his head, fingers curling into fistfuls of grass, "But things are-.... better, now. We're not the same, but we're better, and I'm moving back."

A blue eye focused on the name, Crepus Ragnvindr, beloved father, that stared back at him in stone. "I'm going back home, Father. I can go home."

His eye burned. Kaeya swiped out it, sniffing and pulling himself back together.

"We miss you, and-.... I love you, Father."

on That Night, when kaeya and diluc parted, it could've gone so many different ways...

kaeya practically crawling back to mondstadt, covered in burn wounds and shaking from the rain, made worse by the freezing vision clutched in one hand. he hates that vision. he hates tonight, he hates the archons, and, most of all, he hates himself. he goes to find jean, and doesn't tell her what happened other than the fact that diluc disinherited him and that crepus is dead. she gathers him in her arms and he falls asleep on one of the couches in her office, where she carefully pries the vision out of his hand and carefully settles a blanket over him.

kaeya not being burned, but emotionally scarred instead, doing the same thing, running back to mond as fast as his shaking legs will carry him, nearly slipping on the stone bridge when he enters the city. he runs to jean's office, but this time, he tells her all of what happened. about crepus dying, him being a spy, and diluc's words, "you're no brother of mine." jean stares at him, eyes wide with shock before she reaches out and brushes a tear from his face. she then takes his hands in hers, and tells him that it'll all be okay. he isn't alone, and they'll work everything out. she's crying too, but at least they have each other. kaeya can't bear to lose her, too.

kaeya being so shocked that he just freezes and falls to the ground, limbs going slack as he falls flat on his back in the mud. the vision is burning cold in his hand, a constant and unwelcome feeling. diluc has gone inside, the dim light from the windows reflecting off the growing puddles around him. then, a strip of light cuts across the ground, and kaeya looks up, numb. adelinde has pushed the door open, and is holding an unbrella as she approaches him. she crouches next to him, the knees of her dress getting muddy, and she gives him a wobbly smile. "come inside, master kaeya. master diluc has retreated up to his quarters to rest, he won't know you're here. we must treat your wounds before they get infected." kaeya just gazes up at her before taking the hand she offers him. once inside, he sits down by the fire, the flames making his lungs constrict. he turns away. adelinde goes to prepare bandages and ask one of the other maids to make tea, leaving kaeya alone. "it's never going to be the same again, is it?" he thinks to himself, sight going blurry as tears filled his eye, dripping down his cheeks. "father--no, master crepus--really made a mistake of taking me in, didn't he?"

An incomplete list of hanging plot threads about Mondstadt: 

Varka’s entire mysterious expedition to a foreign land. Where did they go. Why did they go. Why did they take the cavalry but not the cavalry captain. The only other expedition for the Knights we know of was back 500 years ago, during the cataclysm. 

Amber’s grandfather, who mysteriously disappeared three years ago or so and maybe turned up with amnesia in his hometown Qingce. 

Why Lisa left Academia and now refuses to put effort into things. 

Kaeya’s everything. 

Why Crepus had a Delusion at all. (There is also Diluc’s three year sabbatical and the organization he joined, but that’s more other countries than Mond.) 

What was the deal with Pilos Peak and now with Musk Reef, home of the “venturing out into the universe and down into the abyss are the same” Spiral Abyss. 

Andrius and why he’s hanging around as a ghost. Alternatively, why he’s just a ghost and not an evil ghost ala Liyue’s many dead gods. 

Vennessa, who is currently the only notable human we know to have ascended. Dainsleif even specifically mentions her. 

Albedo’s everything. 

Klee, Alice and what they are, since the aren’t necessarily human... or from Teyvat. 

Perhaps connected, Mona’s master and the organization she, Alice and (possibly?) Albedo’s master belong to.

oooo very good question! i try to live under the philosophy of 'never say never', in that if i've given smth some thought, i'll never say that i'd never come back to it, but i do have a handful of ideas that i've definitely set aside for the time being. i'm a firm believer in following wherever inspiration strikes, so if i'm not vibing with an idea at the moment, i'll set it aside and return to it if/when i feel like it or get some new ideas (or fresh brainrot lmao)

and i say 'never say never' because i first had the idea for 'here's our own hands against our hearts' back in may of 2021, and i didn't even start writing it til september, and ofc i didn't finish/start posting til december

so, in no particular order, some concepts i've set aside for the moment and hope to return to some day:

the actual original scene i had in mind that 'to love (and be loved in return)' (x) began to revolve around was a soft kaeluc scene in the hidden-away library where kaeya first showed diluc his magic, and it's also where they first kissed 'for real'...ofc, that never made it into the story, as it evolved quite a lot in other directions lmao

tl(ablir) actually had a LONG history of struggling with the main plot in the background - i went back and forth on crepus being the main antagonist, kaeya's father being the antagonist, the abyss being the antagonist, and so on. intentional and unintentional, in some cases, it went on quite a lot, but none of those concepts really fit the story i wanted to tell

oh another from tl(ablir) - kaeya getting just a little Too Drunk and diluc pushes him too far, implies that he doesn't care about his people (this ended up not fitting well with what i'd established between them). this was going to be his dialogue for the scene:

they have been dying since before i was born i know that they're dying they're dying right now and i can do nothing to stop it. do you think it even occurred to me to refuse your father's offer if it meant helping my people? do you think i drink for FUN? you must think me immeasurably callous if you assume i do not care that my people suffer for our ancestor's mistakes. you must think me heartless, then. and i'd rather be, than face for even a moment the overwhelming grief of so many dead while i sit here in your cushy palace, comfortable and safe

there are also some other ideas that i haven't quite decided to set aside just yet, but who knows when exactly they'll crop up lmao

FINAL ASK FOR THE MORNING SKSKSKSKKS SPEEDRUN, SPEEDRUN -

ABTA is one of the works I'm very proud of and I'm glad you guys are finally seeing it ahaha, it's gonna get more soon like, probably the next major fic after the one I'm working on rn

There are many aspects to this that I wish to rant over since there's many instances: They didn't inform Reader of his death because they knew it would be detrimental to her studies, and she's already working her ass up to lrove her worth, putting more stress to her would not be healthy and they plan to explain it once she comes home. The part by the end of part 2 is for her as well, because in their dwelling in Fontaine, they still think Diluc is gone and most probably dead. They didn't want their child to stay there drowning in double loss and heartbreak, wanting to console their daughter in a place far from bad memories.

The thing about Kaeya is, well, not gonna be out anytime soon or at all. It's a piece of information Reader doesn't need to know, and since Kaeya has a bit of fondness to her it's not the ideal scenario for anyone. Kaeya will keep her in the dark and he trusts Diluc wouldn't say a thing. I have a lot and not a lot of thoughts about Kaeya's prophecy but I'm not tackling that here.

AS FOR THE MOURNING, this is something I imagined perfectly and then forgot about the details when I WOKE UP- Post Trauma Diluc is not gonna be easy to work with, anon, and he has a different viewpoint that's gonna make this harder than it should. Consoling him is not easy because spoiler scene here: Whenever he looks directly or longer at Reader whenever she's all smiley, he always sees the image of his father like an imprint seeing as he always sees younger Reader and Crepus together in the earlier chapters, right? *wink wink nudge nudge*

I honestly FORGOT how I thought of that ending ahahah but I again had an explanation for it aodhsosnls he hid it ever since his freakin four years roadtrip to protect Reader <3 he had to keep it secret so that the enemies he encounter wouldn't look for any weakness, he ended up hiding it out of habit after coming back to Mond, and as you can see he's very touch starved and sensitive with physical interaction cuz of his compounded defense mechanism. Him finally reaching for your hand is a first step into finally getting his comfort, and it just so happens to be the step needed to pull her back uwu

Now that part was OUT OF THE BLUE kind of thing haha, I wanted to just make the letters rot in the mansion but I was like - isn't Diluc going on a field trip type of shit all over Teyvat? That was gonna be a diff scenario featuring creepy boy Lulu but I held back, just to make sure he's in character.

.... thinking of Kaeya not really considering his Mondstadt apartment as ‘home’. It is ‘his apartment’, but the Ragnvindr family estate was his home. And whether my partner headcanons the estate is sold except the winery (at which point that ‘missing’, that nostalgia, is stuck; he wants to go home to a home he can’t have anymore, because it is gone in a way that feels like... not being being able to say goodbye to a dead loved one) OR that winery was the estate, and Kaeya moved out (at which point it is a missing for something that still exists, but he feels utterly unable to get back) - that is home. 

Thinking also of how we have no information on inheritance laws, and that it is likely Crepus did have an inheritance for Kaeya, either in his will, or set down in an ‘this is the understanding’ way. I-.... really can’t see Mond’s laws being that strict even after the nobility’s iron grip was overthrown, so I imagine Crepus could have legally included an adopted son in his will. 

Thinking of Kaeya believing Diluc wants him to have no part in that inheritance. Thinking of him believing Diluc would see it as some insult, or affront to (their) his father’s name, or worse, another betrayal that he would want Crepus’ money, etc.

.... Thinking of the fact that Crepus’ money is 0% of Kaeya’s motivation for desiring the inheritance, even if it would make his life more comfortable.
