Summary: Reader tries to hold back their love for Lesley while he’s still reeling from his broken engagement.

A/N: Hey Heyyy!!!! This is my first fic for Lesley guys!!! It’s also my twenty-fourth fic for my 30 fics in 30 days for April! It’s based on this request- I had a lot of fun with it!!! (Hope I got his character right 🤞) Lol low key I might have been projecting my love of the cold in the first paragraph- im sorry to all my warm weather lovers!!! 😂 Feel free to leave an ask here (I promise I don’t bite, I swear) Thanks for reading and hope you enjoy!

The sun beat down hard on me, making my eyes squint and my skin hotter than I would have liked. Normally I would have been wallowing in misery as I thrived in the cold, even though I lived in Texas. That’s where my job was and that’s where Lesley was, so I swallowed up my complaints, especially now.

Lesley was grabbing our drinks, which was more of a challenge than I expected. I watched him stumble about a million times in his closed toed Birkenstocks he still insisted on wearing, kicking up streams of sand while the concession worker snickered. Instead of laughing like most I smiled brightly, finding it incredibly endearing rather than using it as a reason to make fun of him. I may have not found his closed toed Birkenstocks very fashionable, but he loved them, and I loved him.

I could only say that in my head though, he was still unequivocally in love with Summer- even though she had stomped on his heart. He had thought he found love and watched it cruelly be ripped away from him when Summer broke off their engagement. Normally with whirlwind engagements it was expected that they wouldn’t last. But, with Lesley and Summer I had really thought that they would stand the test of time. I loved him too much to break the fragile happiness he had, though it turns out someone was going to do it for me anyway.

Lesley was still holding a torch for her, I could tell by the way he got a little melancholic sometimes when he talked to me. I did my best to get his mind off of it, that’s why we were here, on this unremarkable beach.

I was glad I at least did something good when I whisked him away to the beach for a while so he wouldn’t have to see Summer or be reminded of her. I knew that eventually we’d have to go back, but it was nice to pretend in this utopia I had crafted for us for the time being, even if the beach was slightly shitty. And, I meant that literally; there was tons of uncleared bird poop everywhere. We had to find a specific spot that was somewhat secluded to find a spot not covered in it.

When he came back with our drinks, it was a little more graceful than the first time, though the worker still laughed when his back was turned, which earned him a glare from me. As we sipped on our slushies while sitting on a rickety bench by the beach, I contemplated everything that had happened in recent months. I had been by his side through it all, mostly with my eyes blown wide at how ridiculous it all was.

Six months ago we had been very different people, sure we had the same personalities and acted relatively the same. But, our experiences over the last months have changed us into different people. I still knew Lesley, better than anyone, and certainly better than Summer claimed.

It was getting too difficult to keep trapped up inside anymore, each day I chose to say nothing made it even more painful. I sucked on my staw, trying to keep it bottled up, keeping it down by the colorful ice that tasted artificially sweet. It felt like I was choking on the love, it wanted to spill out and compel me to confess even though I didn’t want to.

Before I even knew what I was saying it started to tumble out, bubbling up to the surface getting ready to explode any friendship Lesley and I had,

“I know you never will feel the same way, but I have to tell you this,” He cocked his head to the side in question, not expecting what was about to come out of my mouth next, “I love you.”

His mind had obviously short circuited going by the look on his face, jaw dropped open, eyes blown wide, and fingers shaking in shock. It took him a minute to process, frozen in the same place trying to understand what I had just said.

Not long ago he had made the same confession to someone that ultimately ended up leaving him heartbroken. I was afraid I was due for my own dose of unrequited love.

His body must have caught up with his mind as he stood up, knocking over his red colored slushy in the process, staining the sand. He was rubbing the front of his khaki shorts in panic, I grabbed them without thinking; he could hate me now and never want to touch me again.

However, he did not pull away from me, in fact he gripped my hands in a tighter hold while he also squeezed his eyes shut a few times. I opened my mouth to say something, but found myself completely choked up at Lesley’s own admission, “I love you too.”

“I thought you still loved Summer?” Tears were falling down my face, but each drop was quickly brushed to the side by my hands, not wanting to have Lesley see me cry. I had thought Summer had meant the world to him, the way he looked at her made me think that he’d never look at me the same way. I had never even thought to turn around and see if he was looking at me in the first place.

“No, I don’t she was- Never mind it doesn’t even matter. All that matters is that I love you- it’s always been you. You’re the only person who really knows me, really sees me for me.” His hands enveloped my cheeks with cold from him holding the slushy cup while he said his own confession, much more wordy than my own. With his confession heat began to bloom in my cheeks, warming up his cold hands. They were warming up from sheer embarrassment rather than the sun that was still beating down on us overhead. It seemed so silly now, to keep my love for him secret while he walked into a romance his heart wasn’t fully in.

“I’m sorry.” I meekly whispered, dipping my head down in shame.

“Why are you sorry?”

“Because I didn’t tell you…” He then tipped my head up to look at him with confidence I didn’t often see from him.

“You told me now and- that’s all that matters.” Bridging the gap that had slowly been decreasing between the two of us, surprisingly he initiated the kiss.

His lips tasted like the cherry slushy he had been drinking, mixed with the blue raspberry one I had been downing. It was a sugary sweet combo almost sickly, but all I wanted was more. I had deprived myself of the sugar I had been pining for, for so long, I didn’t care if it was somewhat overwhelming to my taste buds.

We had both been idiots, colossal idiots for not getting the nerve to open our mouths and speak up to one another. Though maybe I was the bigger idiot because I had watched him pretend to love someone else, not noticing all the looks he had probably thrown my way. I had been so convinced that he would never love me back that I let the sweetness of him be used by someone else, even though it was always meant for me. Running my fingers through his hair I pulled him even closer to me, touching him without pause or thought of the repercussions. It felt good to be free, like I was flying high up above the clouds unrestricted by my own self doubting thoughts that always tried to sabotage me.

Lesley had been kissing me back with the same amount of force as I was, not a shred of hesitation in sight as he sucked on my bottom lip. Unfortunately I had to let him go when I noticed the concession’s vendor eyeing the two of us while eating a bag of peanuts. Glaring hard again at the man I then refocused onto Lesley, and I never wanted to stop looking. He seemed disappointed at first when we seperated; he had tried to chase my lips as if that would be his first and only taste. I gave him a quick kiss on the tip of his button nose, another taste of the affection he’d be treated to as long as he’d let me give it to him. Speaking softly I then expanded on my confession from earlier, “I promise there’ll be more where that came from- I love you and I never want to let you go.”

He looked down at our intertwined fingers still with shock, he brought them up to his lips, giving his own affection to the tops of my hands with two sweet pecks. “I love you too.” He then mumbled into our palms, giving them one last peck before releasing them.

Tugging his hands I then walked backwards towards our shitty hotel rooms that matched the shitty beach, though I wouldn’t be separating from him once we reached mine. “Come on let’s go.” I said with another tug before breaking out into a run with him right behind, ready to start our adventure of requited love.

Like Mae HAS to be gorg in every au in Valinor, so I picture him as something ppl view as like, the IDEAL omega: beautiful, great at taking care of children, good at minding a House, able to make political connections/small talk, smart, strong, from a good family, able to protect kids/loved ones, tall, etc.

But like, the more "violent" traits were less desirable with elves when they got to Valinor, for why would an Omega need to be able to fight and protect their family from the Dark Hunter if Valinor is peaceful? and as a second gen elf born in Valinor, the traits that makes Mae the Perfect Ideal Omega for the older generations makes those of his generation hesitate to approach. A beautiful deadly creature to be admired from afar, yet a flee on sight once he gets close.

It makes dating hard, it doesn't help that Feanor makes for a crazy and intense in-law.

I like to think that Mae had one heat partner before Fingon. Fingon might not have started his ruts or whatever at this point (because there is the age gap) but like he would have been so close that Mae might have been a little confused/cautious if hes a pup or not (he decides on pup and Fingon is Vibrating with "please god pick me" energy and hes a little heartbroken at being dismissed. Cue plan "Become the most Alpha to ever Alpha ever"). Anyways, Fingon sees Mae fight/test this alpha to see if hes strong/worthy to spend his heat with him/maybe bond?? before he is whisked away by someone else for safety and he saw the aftermath. The cuts and scratches, the brusies, the bitemarks, how exhausted the Alpha was after and vowed right there to Be Better for Mae. Others saw the aftermath too and no matter how much that alpha said how pleased he was about being chosen, no sex is good enough to risk disfiguration with scars.

This is where Fingon comes in. When Mae has another Heat and is prowling around Formenos (not exiled yet but its away from the city and easier on the Omega territorial instincts and there is less of an alpha/beta population to terrorize) protecting His family and he catches the scent of Alpha on the wind and hunts him down. The alpha is shorter than him, but strong, and no matter how much force Mae puts into his attacks the alpha doesn't back down until Mae feels content and allows himself to be pinned by the alpha and expose his neck. The scent goes from Alpha to Fingon and Mae feels his heart swell that the alpha that is perfect for him is the one he loves already.

And then thats it. I like to think they formed a marriage bond/mating bond or whatever, but even if they dont then i can see them still spending Mae's heats together in Beleriand.

I also think that other races are more "traditional" with Omega heats than the elves. Like men have i feel like the classic ABO society. Hobbits have much more Omegas and Betas than Alphas, so their society views Omegas as people who typically have positions of power more so than other races. Dwarves have low numbers of Omegas and women, however they value the idea of Omegas and women as protectors of the home, so they are still taught to fight even if they don't really leave the mountians. They are prized, so many are very honoured and hold high positions that impact the home/doesn't involve a lot/any of travel. The Dwarves opinion of Mae skyrocketed not only after he saved their king but also defended Himring to such an incredible degree during the Battle of Sudden Flame. Ideal Omega in their eyes and was huge when helping build his Alliance

I’m giving fanfiction a try! this is my very first one, and i think itll become a series. 

Reader x Loki

Summary: Reader works with the Avengers as a research Biologist, and receives a worrying text from a toxic ex boyfriend. Loki enlists himself in watching out for reader, and fluff ensues.

Since living in the compound, you were accustomed to not only high security, but constantly being surrounded by Gods, Monsters, and people who could kill with a look. You happened to fall into the cracks of these people, weaving your way into each basket briefly before moving on.

Since you lived where you worked, spending time late at night in a meeting, your office, or in the gym wasn’t out of the ordinary. You thrived in this environment since you could spend all your time doing your work without having to take travel time or traffic into account.

Tonight was one of those nights. You were working in your office, deep in concentration on your recent research proposal, when a notification from your phone almost gave you whiplash. You caught your breath, and reached for your phone, noticing that it was an unrecognized number. Not thinking much of it, you unlocked your screen, when your stomach dropped.

“Hey (Y/N), it’s been a while eh? Wanted to let you know im in the neighbourhood, and wanted to get drinks some time with you. I can pick you up at the compound. -K”.

Your ex-boyfriend. How did he manage to get your new number? You shouldn’t even be surprised, considering how easy it was for him to insert himself into every aspect of your life when you were together.

Months ago, you started to notice how jealous he became at every little thing. You wanted to go out with friends? He insisted on either coming or giving you a curfew. Weren’t home on time to his liking? He would track your phone and show up unannounced to wherever you were, loudly declaring to everyone around you that you must be cheating on him. He had horrible trust issues, and sometimes you wondered what he would do if you stopped giving in to his words. Would be become forceful? Would you be in physical danger? Thankfully, you mustered up the strength to call it quits before you found out, but who knows what would have happened if you hadn’t?

You blinked back into reality and took in your surroundings. You were surprised that you felt so alone suddenly. Usually you have no problem with staying up late like this, even if you were the last in the research building. You began to quickly pack up your belongings, clutching your phone, swiftly exiting into the hallway. You knew you were just being paranoid, but you looked down both sides of the hall before racing to the elevators. Once it arrived, you jumped in and pushed the button incessantly until you were safely inside. As you listened to the dings of each floor pass, and watched the lights switch to each level, you began to calm down. You felt ridiculous. Why would you be scared of your lazy ex boyfriend over a text message? Maybe it was someone sending a prank text. Maybe he wasn’t even in the city. And lord help anyone who tried to break into the compound without getting tackled by security. You were fine.

The elevator doors slid open and you gained back your confidence; stepping out onto the main floor when all of a sudden you hit what felt like a brick wall, sending your things flying, and dropping your phone to the floor. You gasped, shoving yourself against the wall and throwing your forearms in front of your face. Someone grabbed them and tried to move them down but it wasn’t working. “(Y/N would you relax?! It’s just me.” Loki. That monster. You opened your eyes and pushed back at him, your fear being replaced with anger and frustration. “LOKI I AM GOING TO KILL YOU I SWEAR TO GOD WHAT ARE YOU EVEN DOING IN THIS BUILDING YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR MIND DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS-“. His laughter brought you back to reality. “(Y/N) what is wrong with you? You really have terrible reaction times to your fear, we should work on that”. Through all the commotion and stress you didn’t realize it but you began to cry. “Love, are you alright? I didn’t scare you that badly did I, what’s wrong?”.

You slid down the wall and haphazardly began to collect your things. You picked up your phone, and handed it to Loki, who looked at the message on the screen. “(Y/N), is this who I think it is?”. You nodded. Once you packed your bag, Loki helped you up. “Is this why you were so scared? You thought I was him?”. You nodded again, catching your breath.

The two of you began to go outside, walking along the garden pathway back to the main building where you all lived. “I haven’t heard from him in months. Not since I ended things. He took it horribly but I never thought that maybe it wasn’t over for him. He seemed like the type to be mad, but then move on to some other girl once he had the chance. I can’t believe he found my number again.” Loki listened to you as you walked in the dark, illuminated only by compound streetlamps and the fireflies of the gardens around you. “(Y/N), I’ll be honest, I find it highly unlikely for someone to forget about you that quickly without remorse. I know the two of you were not together for that long, but he seems to still be struggling with the thought of letting you go.” You felt a bit surprised. “What, so I had this text coming to me? I should have known he would want to make contact again?”. He realized what he had implied. “No, I’m sorry. What I mean is, I am not surprised that he would want to have this influence you. Forgive me, but maybe his skull is too thick to get that through.” You laughed and he smiled down at you.

You and Loki had clicked almost immediately. You were a researcher hired into the Stark company, bringing your useful knowledge of biology and mechanics. Since there were now Gods and Aliens on the team, Stark thought it would be quite useful to try and bridge the gap. So he went through universities around the world, not sure what exactly he was looking for. But when he walked into your lab by accident, you had yelled over to him for an extra hand in helping tie some stem cells together. He noticed your focus and lack of ick-factor and interviewed you on the spot. Well, more like allowing you to crack open his gadgets and listen to you go on and on about how you think human properties could be incorporated into his technology. He was instantly hooked.

He brought you back to the compound and introduced you to the team the next week. Loki noticed how you weren’t flinching at any of the information being thrown at you, and even began to ask questions to your team members about their own worlds. He noticed that you were already acting like a team member, without needing the blood bond. You were gung-ho the minute you set foot on the property. And he respected that.

The two of you became closer after you expressed interest in reading some Asgardian texts that you were useless in deciphering. Loki agreed to be your partner in your research adventure, offering a better look into each others lives.

As you looked back up at your friend, you realized how thankful you were that he had almost scared you to death. If he hadn’t, you’d be all alone out here in the dark, probably looking over your shoulder at every snap of a twig. Although the compound was quiet and secluded, there were still the elements. The two of you came to a stop outside the main entrance doors. “Are you feeling alright now?”, “Yes, thank you. I’m glad I didn’t have to make that walk alone. Usually I’m fine, but that text message really threw me off”. “I can see why. What kind of idiot jus announces their desire to ambush you like that? He doesn’t seem like the strategic type.” He smiled down at you, trying to lighten the mood. You reciprocated, letting him open the door for you.

The wait for the elevator and the ride up to your rooms was passed with asking each other about your work days and if you had evening plans. Neither of you were good at keeping an honest sleep schedule. As the two of you were saying goodnight to each other in your hallway, he stopped you before entering your room. “(Y/N), I know you can hold your own, but if you ever need someone to walk you home again, you know how to contact me”. You reached up and gave him a hug. “Thank you Loki, I appreciate that. And you know the same always goes for you”. You let him go and as he walked away from you, you called out to him once more; “By the way, what were you even doing in the research building today?”. He stopped and turned to face you, “I saw your office light on from outside. I was hoping to run into you before you left for the evening. Unfortunately I ended up frightening you rather than enticing you”. You raised your eyebrows, “Loki, you know you always entice me”.

He walked away, and you entered your room feeling a wave of comfort and relief wash over you.

Send Help: Addicted to Roleplay and Chipotle

Greetings from Earth! First time poster to this blog and stoked to meet some new partners. My name is Chris and I'm a male nurse (Yo, you're going to get some medically accurate roleplay) in his late twenties. I have a lovely wife and two stupidly handsome animals (Pictures of the animals available on request) but manage to maintain a pretty active roleplay life due to the fact that I work nights. The Basics: I tell everyone that I'm a professional. I try to reply 1-3 times a week and the length of posts depends on amount of characters in play. If I'm going to take longer, I always try to let you know. I'm willing to write male and female characters and focus on M/F as the male and F/F. M/M just isn't my thing, sorry y'all. My limits include pedophilia, rape, and animal abuse. Anything else can be discussed. I prefer e-mail for writing (Chrisx104@gmail.com) but have Discord for plotting (NurseBatman#3674). If we get along really well, you can convince me into discord roleplay. The text limit just drives me nuts. I do use faceclaims pretty aggressively. Is there anything else? Central time zone?

Onto the roleplay stuff. I'll start with originals and then dive into fandoms. I put extra *s by the lines that I will literally lose my mind if you approach me about. Searching hard! -The Social Media Age****** A m/f line that I've given a little thought to, looking for someone to write a young woman that is pretty much making her living being an instagram model/fitness person, etc. I think the proper term is *Influencer*. Meets and starts dating a successful guy with no presence online, the two falling for each other but at odds over their differing attitudes towards the world. -This American Life Something set in the 1970s, focusing on a roadtrip. A group of teenagers leave their small town behind to head out west. I love this time period. Can be supernatural, supernatural lite (think Twin Peaks weirdness) or totally natural. -Stranger Things inspired A group of four to six friends enjoy their last summer together in a remote town as strangeness begins to unfurl. I'd be willing to set this in the present but think it would be way more fun in the 70s or 80s. I have an idea for one of the kids having lost a sibling in a strange way when they were young and possibly some sort of cult in town.

I know Reylo is all the rage these days, as is Qi'Ra/Han. But, man ALIVE, I really want something focusing on the core four: Luke, Leia, Han, and, ya boy, Chewie. Something taking place in that three year gap between New Hope and Empire as they work among the rebellion. Strange new worlds, getting into scrapes, sharply running from the empire, avoiding Vader, bounty hunters, and all sorts of things. This time period is far from explored and we can really thrive in the galaxy. Primarily I want to focus on the budding relationship between Han and Leia and Luke's training, pre-Yoda. In a perfect world, I'd want to write Han and Chewie (If anyone thinks Chewie is just a NPC, get out my face) while my partner takes on Leia and Luke. I'd be willing to switch out Chewie for Luke if need be, I guess? We could also split up C3PO and R2. I also would enjoy writing a young Amilyn Holdo and a few other soldiers. Let's real build out the resistance and delve into the 'WARS' part of those big yellow letters that never get enough attention. On top of all of that, I also have an original love interest in mind for Luke if someone else plays him! She's a spitfire. Alternatively, I'd be down for writing something set in the clone wars. Perhaps two jedi that broke the order's relationship laws and then survived Order 66 together? -Preacher Seriously. Love this show, love this comic. Would happily write Jesse or Cassidy against Tulip. Just definitely looking for a Tulip -The Boys Would love to write Hughie against Starlight! Currently working my way through the season that just dropped. -Marvel -I will love you forever if you write an Elektra against my Daredevil. They are toxic and in love and I love it. Whether it be the comics or the Netflix series, I don't care. Someone please write me an Elektra. Netflix did a good job of portraying this one -Alternatively, I'd also be happy to write against a Black Widow, either with Daredevil. They were a mainstay OTP in the comics in the 90s and I'd love to write against Scarlet's Black Widow. -Has anyone seen the trailer for the neverendingly delayed New Mutants movie? I would love to write something based on that horror aspect of the mutant universe.* -I'd love to write an older MCU Peter Parker (like college) running across a MCU version of Black Cat. Or just a Spiderman roleplay in general. I've always wanted to write Peter but have never gotten the chance! I have a ton of ideas for this, plus faceclaims for a few of the villains. Would also be willing to play him against Zendaya's MJ, Spidergwen, or Silk (Deepcut)**************************** (I so badly want to write Peter) -One of the pairings that was done for a time in the comics was Star Lord against Kitty Pryde and it was actually a lot of fun. If anyone would want to do a MCU version of this, I would so *DOWN* to play Quill, Xmen hijinks a plenty in space -If you write Jessica Jones, I'd be willing to write almost anyone against her (NOT KILGRAVE). Just let me know. I'd be super down to write Luke Cage or maybe Matt Murdock. I do a mean John Constantine, which, let's face it, is a cross company illustration of the two most terrible people together -Hawkguys! I would love to either write Clint against Kate Bishop (This would be a slightly skewed MCU vibe) or Kate against America Chavez. I would really love to do either of these lines. Or a poly version if someone is willing! -I'd love to write Logan as an active member of the MCU Avengers, possibly as a partner in crime/wetworks/murder with Black Widow. Those two could cause some mayhem. -Honestly, any X-men relationship could be sold to me. Just try it. I would love to find a Kitty for Piotr, a Rogue for Remy, or almost anyone for Kurt.

-DC I'd love to write Batman against Catwoman, please. Or John Constantine against literally almost anyone -Hannibal I've been dying to do a sort of season 4 for a while now, focused on Clarice Starlings interaction with Will Graham and later Hannibal Lecter. Just need to find someone willing to create an original style Clarice. -Resident Evil I'd like to write Leon against Claire Redfield or Jill Valentine in an original outbreak or a new one. I know this is an old school fandom but I'm a diehard fan. -Star Trek Okay, so first up, I am not the most well versed Trekkie in the world. Never watched any of the TV shows but am a massive fan of the trio of rebooted films and would love to give Kirk or Bones a try against Uhura, Dr. Eve, or maybe a female Vulcan OC? Hit me with ideas! -The Matrix Another obscure fandom. Maybe just an original crew, set during the movies, after, or an AU where they're the only survivors of Zion? Im not sure but I could plot something out!

-Uncharted I'd love to write Chloe Frazier against Nadine Ross, continuing their adventures. I'm pretty wide open on what we can do with this one. RANDOM CRACK SHIPS! Caught in a Web: I would love to write an iteration (Daniel Craig or an original) of James Bond/007 against a non superhero version of Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow. Spy vs spy shenanigans as two people working for different governments. Totally impossibly but putting it just in case: Did anyone see all that Wonder Woman/Lara Croft art that was floating around the internet earlier this year? I would love to dive into that. Sea fishing on Anglesey in the winter months is prime. The crowds have left the island and there is not a soul in sight on the beaches most nights. Night fishing is an exciting winter past time for most anglers, with the promise of a big cod for the pan, and the prize is always worth the wait. With winter comes with it north westerly gales and  biting temperatures, it can put most anglers off the sport this time of year. But the more hardened anglers or should I say seasoned anglers, are able to tolerate and even thrive in the cold winter months whilst fishing here on Anglesey. There a just a few tips an tricks to help you stay warm and enjoy the hunt for your winter fishing specimens. Then you will be ready to go out and catch your first winter specimens on a cold crisp night here.

Oceanography and environment

The water temperature here on Anglesey drops to about 5c in late jan early feb,  which is quite cold for most. With these sharp drops in water temperature, come the more cold water species of fish on their migratory routes.

For those of you unaware, the fish, just like the birds, move and migrate to the favourite summer and winter destinations in search of their favourite food. I will do further blogs in the future regarding this phenomena for you all, but needless to say it’s a wonder to imagine the distances that fish cover in order to reach both feeding and breeding grounds. North wales I might add is THE top destination for fishing in the UK, and the fish travel thousands of miles in some cases to over winter in more ambient temperatures.

While the water temperatures are cool to cold in these parts due to the drop in solation from the suns grazing angle, many fish disappear from the shallows and move to deeper waters where they are safer from storms and predators and more insulated from the colder temperatures.

In February and March fishing has its barren two months as the entire breeding cycle is underway offshore, meaning that the fish travel to their respective offshore deep sea breeding grounds to spawn in safety. So just like the hunger gap on the land where your spring greens are not quite ready and the land is otherwise farrow, so too is the ocean is in its farrow cycle also.  Everything in this wonderful world in which we live revolves around cycles.

Needless to say in the winter months of Feb and March we don’t do much fishing. The rivers are discharging very large amounts of cold run off water in the mountains which some fish can find hard to tolerate and the cold easterly winds whistle up, which all make the fish stop feeding and bring them in to a hibernation state. The old saying from when I was small was “ when the wind blows east, the fish bite least” ! So save these months for heading into the mountains.

Fish Species on Anglesey 

So what species might we encounter during the cold dark winter months on Anglesey?. Well, fishing on Anglesey during the winter months, you will most likely catch Cod, Codling, Coal fish, Whiting, Dog Fish, Bull Huss, Herring, Bass and a few more smaller species such as ling, rockling, maybe some winter flounder and dab too.

My favourite fishing to do an Anglesey has to be Cod fishing. There are many locations  on Anglesey to head to get your prize fish species here. But few produce the big fish like back in the 1960s, I guess this is a result of over fishing in Europe and scandanavia as a whole.

The cod move down from Norway and Scandinavia to feed on the herring shoals and on smaller fishing like Pouting and Poor cod, (both barbed chinned cousins of the larger Cod) in our local. They also feed on crab edibles and hard backed this time of year.Smaller juvenile fish like these can be easy hovered up by large cod, having caught a couple of double figure cod im my days, I can attest to how large the gape of their jaws are. They could swallow a rugby ball with ease.

Anglesey fishing Locations

So the areas to head for Cod are not quite as east as they once where..If you are serious about hunting the cod down you may have to do some legwork. The Menai straits is probably the more certain destination to catch your prized fish. There are many spots both along the Anglesey side of the Menai strait that will produce Codling and Cod. Pwyll Fanog in th Straits is a prime location if you can get past the tackle loss. The Swellies  area between the two bridges I am also told in good faith, fishes very well.

The end of Holyhead Breakwater can produce some beauties the night after a big westerly blow if the winds drop right off…pick your spots well and do some home work by speaking to the local tackle shops and forums these days are rich with information and catch reports.

Treaddur Bay can produce big cod in the winter also and main areas such as Lilly pond bay,  Ravens point, the sewer pipe and Lees caravan park all can produce good Codling and the occasional cod. Tackle losses can be quite heavy at Lees and the sewer pipe from what I can remember. Lilly pond and Ravens point are not so bad as the deep water goes directly onto sand.

Time and Tides for fishing on Anglesey

They say time and tide waits for no man and this is very true. Tides are a key point to think of when you are fishing on Anglesey both in the summer and winter months. Rock marks and beach marks differ greatly, as in when they fish best. There is usually a window of 2-3 hours when the fish are feeding at the optimum and you really have to nail it right or you can be out in the cold for hours wasting your time.

Beaches fish best from low water up to high water, I never fish a beach with the tide down, as the fish are retreating after the maximum tidal flow has ebbed, and they don’t want to get stranded as the tide retreats. (unless you are fishing 1 hour after high while the current is still powerful- I would say that is the exception, especially on a spring tide with a wind direction that is pushing the tide up).

Rock marks I like to fish from low up also but they will fish down towards low water better than beaches as there is more water on their fish’es backs so they don’t have to think abut retreating to safety.

My tacktick is to fish low up or 2 hours after low up on say 80+% of my trips out. From years of trial and error these time slots work best for me, others will have different data and opinions. Anyhow to fish for cod I would arrive at most locations at Low water in the day light, the reason for this is, I can see where the channels are, where the snags are, look for free tackle before I fish. Arriving in the day light also gives you the added bonus to make a play of where is best to fish how to escape an incoming tide and take some nice pictures and relax! Plus setting up in the dark is not too much fun, things get lots and miss placed and it generally feels more rushed and stressed. I like to have my lines in the water by sundown with plenty of time to spare.

Arriving after dark can create more hassle. Arrive in the daylight and survey the territory.

Tides on Anglesey are strong time it right and you can use them to your advantage. Pick your fishing window right.

Best weather for fishing on Anglesey

Cod and most species will feed after a good blow. The water is churned up and discoloured and they can use their instincts to hunt almost camouflaged. Fishing on Anglesey, if I’m targeting Cod in particular, I will watch for a very strong westerly gale and then they day after it drops I will fish a low water tide, two to fours up depending on the size of the tide and its strength.

For Bass you want to fish the beach in a storm, so windy in fact that you couldn’t walk your dog!! That’s the old saying.. Fish again from Low to mid tide up and cast into the third breaker.

Whiting are a different kettle of fish, you want a calm calm night with not a ripple on the water and you will catch millions, a star filled clear night with a frost is a typical whiting fishing night here on Anglesey. I love the second or third bend on Holyhead break water to fish for whiting in the winter months.

Keeping warm fishing over winter on Anglesey

So tips and tricks for cod and winter fishing overall. Well lest assume first that we are on a beach or at least a non steep ground location. I like to bring s brolli for wind shelter, this is a must. You can get them for many locations online and don’t cost an arm and a leg to buy. I like ones with detachable wings to keep the wind from whistling through. Leeda and Mustad make good ones.

Next an all in one thermal suit is amazing, I don’t have one now, but im considering it. Companies like Leeda, Fladen and Imax make good ones. The is the option of going for a full flotation suit also at the same time with these models.

Lastly another good tip for keeping warm is have a Tilley lamp. Now there are two different schools of thought on this one, some anglers say the light can scare the fish off, others say not. Anyhow they make a good warm companion and I like them for Winter months, plus if your headlamp gives up. I like Coleman north star and Coleman Power house models.

Tilley lamps made by Coleman are great. Cree headlamps now with LEDs and lithium batteries are very bright and good value.

Headlamps- take two with you in case one runs out, I use now the Cree lamps which are very good headlamps for incredibly cheap. Be mindful when charging not to over charge them though, they have been known to catch fire! I charge mine in the kitchen where I can keep an eye on it!

Thermos Flasks of warm drinks for the trips are a must for winter fishing on Anglesey. I have a couple of types but Thermos or Stanley still produce the best quality ones.

Thermal flask and Tilley lamp are two ways to keep you warm whilst fishing this winter.

Bait for winter fishing on Anglesey

The most east one to answer for you all.. Black lug worm and squid. This works for all three special uniformly and you can juts go with lug if you prefer and a full squid. Second best is yellow tail lug worm and rag worm I guess. I like to what we call cocktails with the bait, by mixing and matching the baits together to create stronger scent trail in the water. The squid acts as a flag to the fish you see and the worm produces the blood scent that the fish can pick up on.

For whiting I use small worm baits on small hooks tipped with squid again. For Cod and bass we try to go with bigger hooks and use bigger baits.

Bait for winter fishing – summery plus some others I haven’t mentioned :

Black Lug, blow Lugworm or yellow tail lug worm, Rag worm- There are the primo in winter baits in my humble opinion, even better if in conjunction with other baits.

Squid, Razor fish, Mussle, Peeler crab, Molluscs and clams – Great for tipping off worm baits

Mackerel, Herring  and Sandeel- I keep these to a minimum as it only attracts the dog fish and Bull Huss.

Tackle for Winter fishing on Anglesey

How it generally works is that we use stronger rods, reels and line sin the in winter months. Why? Because there is more weed, more drag and bigger float some to deal with. Plus sometimes bigger baits to cast out in stormy seas and strong winds to target bigger fish.

Light tackle pairings like my summer style you may have seen like when I’m fishing for Mackerel or Pollack, is very different to this style of fishing.

I like to use two heavy duty rods for my winter fishing  rods for winter fishing a Zipplex HST and Century Carbon metal, these are tough strong rods that can deal with 3 free fish and a strong tide over rough ground if needs be. I used to love the Century tip tornado– my favourite of all time!

To this end in the winter I use a Penn 525 Fishing reel loaded with 18ld mainline and a shock leader up to 70ld for casting  a 5-6oz weight out into the surf.

If I’m fishing beach locations what I will use is my Century rod with the reel low down and a reducer in the base for longer range casting. The reel of choice is always a Abu 6500CT (silver) my favourite reel of all time! I have 5 with varying options abilities- yes I know I’m a bit of a fishing geek. When I’m going for long range beach species, I will use a two hook clipped rig for more aerodynamic capabilities.

I use a Shakespeare seat box (small) with a break away back rest  for transporting all of my fishing goods around. I use a Ian golds dual head rod rest, as I generally like to have two rods for fishing one close in and one far out. I like the Ian gold’s rod rests with the yellow plastic cups and rod supports. I pack two to three rig wallets with pre made rigs for specific species. Mostly Cod, Bass and whiting this time of year. Hooks are paired to match the species that I’m targeting, along with the hook line strength.

Rigs that I like to use and two hook Pennell’s for cod, pulley rigsfor cod or one up and one down style rigs, that has a 30cm line running below the weight to make sure at least one weight is on the seabed if the tide is running. Weights are typically 4-6 oz gripper weights either breakaway a firm favourite and also Gemini if I’m fishing off a beach only- I find that they sometimes don’t release their legs on rough ground. I find it best to make your own, here is one of the moulds that I use.

I take a bucket for the bait and sometimes if I’m fishing over low water I will dig some works also while I’m there. Fresh bait on demand.

 Size limits, ethics and sustainability

Fishing in the UK has had size limits from the shore since I was a boy, these limits have been put in place to safeguard the future generations of the species we have come to know in these parts of the world. I have had countless quiet talks with many anglers who flout these rules. The reason is simple, you take out the large fish and juvenile fish and we will destroy our stocks. So take a look at the size limits for  Bass, Cod, Whiting, Pouting, Coal fish and Dog fish here. You can purchase a fish measurer from most tackle shops or from here.

Releasing your catch.. If for what ever reason your fish is undersize, unhook and walk it back into the sea, holding it using a rag, (as your heat in your hands can damage a cold blooded fishes scales) and the hold the fish in the water and release it slowly. I wear waders so that I can enter the water up to knee level to do this. Its nice seeing them swim off to fight another day 😉

Litter.. Do I have to mention this even? You have no idea how much littler is discarded by fishermen all along our beautiful coast. It honestly saddens me. If you take plastics out with you, please take them home with you. Discard bait without its plastics in the breakers and take it home to dispose of. Burn it if you will-as long as it doesnt not end up in the marine cycle.

Take a spare bag with you, and if you see marine littler pick a few bits up. It cost you nothing and you can re pay your dues to mother nature in return for the good will she allows to us to live here..

  Tuition 

There is no denying I love fishing so much it over spills into other ears of my life! I have been teaching fishing now for a couple of seasons and really enjoy the one on one approach to help developing such valuable skills in others here on the shores of Anglesey.

This winter will will be running some more 1-1 coaching and offering half and full days winter fishing for the more hardy anglers in these brisk conditions.   Summary

Winter fishing on Anglesey is a very productive time of year to bag a good catch this time of year. With the beaches and rock fishing marks on Anglesey quiet this time of year, competition is at its lowest for the fish that grace our shores.

Cod, Whiting, Coal fish, Pouting, Poor cod, Conger, Ray and and many more  all are prevalent along the shores this time of year and are hungry for food. Get good fresh bait, pick your tides and and local well and you will be in for a good evenings fishing.

Pop into the local fishing shops and talk to the patient owners about what being caught and where, to get an inside line whilst your here, they ca give invaluable advice on catches, conditions, baits and tides to fish. Both Malcom at ABC in Beaumaris and Mark at Winnies Worms in Holyhead are both super good guys and will point you in the right direction.

I was fishing last night and whilst thinking about this blog I realised one of my favourite past tie while I was fishing was simply stargazing. The stars last night where juts unreal, it was so beautiful to be out in the cold crisp nights air and to be a part of what felt a pretty big universe. So nature can reward you greatly for just being out there and part of it.

And, since I'm a ICU nurse, I can always promise painfully medically accurate roleplay. I put extra *s by the lines that I will literally lose my mind if you approach me about. Searching hard! Figured I'd start with original lines: -This American Life Something set in the 1970s, focusing on a roadtrip. A group of teenagers leave their small town behind to head out west. I love this time period. Can be supernatural, supernatural lite (think Twin Peaks weirdness) or totally natural. F/F True Detective line A line about a pair of detectives from the city taking on a murder in a small down that isn't jazzed about two women taking the reigns of such a large case. Fandoms! -Star Wars** I know Reylo is all the rage these days, as is Qi'Ra/Han. But, man ALIVE, I really want something focusing on the core four: Luke, Leia, Han, and, ya boy, Chewie. Something taking place in that three year gap between New Hope and Empire as they work among the rebellion. Strange new worlds, getting into scrapes, sharply running from the empire, avoiding Vader, bounty hunters, and all sorts of things. This time period is far from explored and we can really thrive in the galaxy. Primarily I want to focus on the budding relationship between Han and Leia and Luke's training, pre-Yoda. In a perfect world, I'd want to write Han and Chewie (If anyone thinks Chewie is just a NPC, get out my face) while my partner takes on Leia and Luke. I'd be willing to switch out Chewie for Luke if need be, I guess? We could also split up C3PO and R2. Let's real build out the resistance and delve into the 'WARS' part of those big yellow letters that never get enough attention. On top of all of that, I also have an original love interest in mind for Luke if someone else plays him! She's a spitfire. Alternatively, I'd be down for writing something set in the clone wars. Perhaps two jedi that broke the order's relationship laws and then survived Order 66 together? -Preacher Seriously. Love this show, love this comic. Would happily write Jesse or Cassidy against Tulip. Just definitely looking for a Tulip -The Boys Would love to write Hughie against Starlight! Currently working my way through the season that just dropped. -Marvel -I will love you forever if you write an Elektra against my Daredevil. They are toxic and in love and I love it. Whether it be the comics or the Netflix series, I don't care. Someone please write me an Elektra. -Alternatively, I'd also be happy to write against a Black Widow, either with Daredevil (They were a mainstay OTP in the comics in the 90s) or Logan/Wolverine (This line would be bloody and murder-y as hell but it would be some fun).** -Has anyone seen the trailer for the neverendingly delayed New Mutants movie? I would love to write something based on that horror aspect of the mutant universe.* -I'd love to write an older MCU Peter Parker (like college) running across a MCU version of Black Cat. Or just a Spiderman roleplay in general. I've always wanted to write Peter but have never gotten the chance! I have a ton of ideas for this, plus faceclaims for a few of the villains. Im not sure but I could plot something out! -Uncharted I'd love to write Chloe Frazier against Nadine Ross, continuing their adventures. I'm pretty wide open on what we can do with this one. -Overwatch I just recently got into this game and think the fandom is a ton of fun. While I might need a bit of tutorial on the storyline outside of the characters, I'd be down to write a few of them. But I have no idea what the standard ships are. RANDOM CRACK SHIPS! Caught in a Web: I would love to write an iteration (Daniel Craig or an original) of James Bond/007 against a non superhero version of Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow. Spy vs spy shenanigans as two people working for different governments. Totally impossibly but putting it just in case: Did anyone see all that Wonder Woman/Lara Croft art that was floating around the internet earlier this year? I would love to dive into that.
