Summary: Jack wasn't meaning to snoop in his son's room when he found a box of medical supplies and a USB with a tag that said IF I DON'T COME HOME. Danny’s secrets revealed, Jack is desperate to earn his son’s trust, to earn the right to this secret he stumbled across. After almost two years of unknowingly hunting his son, is Danny's trust too broken to heal?

Reason: this is easily my most popular fic to date, and one I routinely reread. I just really love the idea of Danny's parents figuring it out and trying to support him, and I just love really, really love Jack. Also this one is what "put me on the map" in the phandom, so to speak, and I'll always love it for that. I'm including the tag-along fic with it bc it's not a sequel/is a short addition.

Woken and Bound

Summary: Danny wakes up in chains, Clockwork and the Observants hovering above him. Knowing only one fate could bring them here, he didn’t even fight, just bows his head and waits.

Reason: This one was created off a discussion in the Danny Phantom Discord! It was one of the first real interactions I had with the phandom. The fic is just angsty enough, but the memory of writing it is still fun!

same memory (different perspective)

Summary: It’s just chores, just him cleaning the lab. It’s just a normal day and he’s definitely fine. His fight or flight instinct definitely isn’t screaming at every single atom in himself to run.

Reason: I don't really have an emotional reason tied to this one, surprisingly. It was just a dissec fic I wrote that I ended up really, really enjoying. It's short and to the point, and the point is agony.

Parental Responsiblility

Summary: After a night she’d rather forget, Jack and Maddie are missing, and Jazz has to face her new reality.

Reason: This was the first fic I ever tried to write where I used timeline jumping as a major storytelling method, it was also the first fic wherein I focused on one person's POV, instead of POV hopping. Also my first time writing Jazz POV at all! This is also the fic I consider my most fucked up.

we live our lives like we're ready to die

Summary: DP x Angel: the Series (BTVS) crossover! (Actual short summary because the real summary is long: Wesley and Sam get into a bidding war over an ancient text. Wes needs it for Angel, Sam needs it because Danny is inexplicably drawn to it. Shenanigans!)

Reason: This might just have some "woo-hoo new fic energy!" pushing it up on my faves, but I am genuinely enjoying reading and writing this fic. I never thought I'd do any type of crossover fic, but this is just a blast and a half! Trying to fit the lores together, figure out how these characters will play off of each other and react to each other is a blast! This is the single most self indulgent fic I've ever written and I love it for that.

Basic info - You can call me either Orion or Riley! I'm 25, neurodivergent, trans masc & nonbinary, and bisexual. Pronouns are he/him and they/them. I do also live in New Mexico (born and raised babyy!), which makes the shows that much more special to me!! I'm a writer, but I struggle hard with getting anything actually published on here or AO3. I try to write but it's not nearly consistent enough to ever expect anything from me. I'm working towards getting better at this! My main hurdle to overcome is my perfectionism and my fear of rejection (RSD).

I have a lot of interests, being autistic, so the only important one to list here is obviously Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul. I have only ever written DC fic. Literally ever. I've never written fic that wasn't for DC.

What are your top five fics by kudos?

Now Kiss (Which on the one hand is very surprising to me, but on the other hand is a blessing moreso than a curse? I'm trying to look at it as a reminder that people love what I write even when I don't think it's perfect)

Know Yourself (GOD I really want to get back to this one. I want to finish it so bad, the plot of it is still mocking me from The Corkboard and I know I'm just stuck in the mud of the middle right now, which I will get through eventually)

Rooftops & Bookshops (Honestly, not that surprising to me considering it's one of my oldest and it's finished, even though I don't love the writing so much anymore and personally think I've improved significantly since writing it. Probably You Hear His Voice Once and You Know It Again. Like, the ending is horny, but also it's fucked up so I'd call it the angstiest.

Do you get hate on your fic?

No, I've never gotten hate on a fic. I've occasionally gotten a few comments that were clearly people trying to be helpful by offering unsolicited advice or saying what they want to see in a story, but I disregard those because they don't bother me.

That said, I have gotten a weird amount of comments on Now Kiss that referred to the city with gendered terms despite my adamant and intentional refusal to do so in the fic, because sentient cities do not have genders and I am non-binary. I'm assuming most of these were innocuous/from people who just are used to referring to a city in female terms, but I have also gotten some feedback specifically from people who wanted me to gender the city in female terms and mentioned that it had a negative impact on their reading, which frustrated me as a person who doesn't ascribe to the gender binary, but I am not going to go on a rant abt right now because this is supposed to be a fun thing :))

What‘s your all-time favorite ship?

Okay look it CHANGES. I go through phases. That said, probably a tie between JayTim and DamiTim. The scales tip with them pretty often though, sometimes one will win over, sometimes the other will. Currently I'm in my damitim era.

What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Oh, don't even ask me that. I don't doubt my ability to finish ANY of them on principle that if I start doubting, I've already given up. That said, the most complicated/on the backburner one of them right now is What Are You Waiting For? (which is a bummer because I really am excited about it, but I try to just write what I'm feeling inspired to write in any given moment, which right now is nothing fandom related unfortunately)

What’s your writing strengths?

Hurt/comfort and angst, or so I have been told. Also, dialogue.

What’s your writing weaknesses?

Probably over-editing and being too hard on myself when it comes to my writing in the first place. Also, I really struggle with descriptions of places.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

If I did, I'd need someone to double check that everything was correct, but as long as someone else was willing and able to make sure it was right, I would!

Hmmm... most of them have happy endings so idk... maybe Strategies for Play bc Kuroo's "masterplan" worked and it ends post great sex with everyone cuddling in bed being super cute?

Nope, not ever received hate on my fics but I have received hate about my fics on here (the Astarion one)

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Most of what I write tends to be smut lmao. And I guess all kinds but usually with some kind of bdsm/kink dynamics to them? 4 of my published fics are smut (cater to you, he was made to be broken, strategies for play, and the miya atsumu humilation show), and an additional 1 has some sexual content in it (just watch me). My more "risque" content is currently languishing in my wips waiting to be finished (yeah i'm looking at you inumaki/itadori/sukuna fic)

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Yes, but none of them have been published yet LMAO. I can't tell you about one of them that'll be published soon for the They Were Roommates big bang, but I did/do have a bluelock/D&D cross over that's probably the "craziest" one (and also SO much fun to plan). Deep in my wips I also have a BokuAka Greek Mythology AU and sketches for a Haikyuu/Dirty Dancing AU

12. There was no question 12 so I'll make one up myself: What's the longest you've ever spent working on one fic? And the shortest?

LMAO. I love this because who made this one up? idk! If we're going by published fics then The Miya Atsumu Humiliation Show took me from May to October 2023 (5 months), and I've been working on my TWRRMs bang fic since May (currently 6 months). I've also been planning/writing Fire On the Horizon since Jan 2023!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I've co-created a fic, as in coming up with the idea with another person, and I've also co-created in the sense of working with beta readers for bang fics. I've not co-written anything yet though, but I would love to!

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

Nooo... what a cruel question. I'll give you my top 5 bc I simply cannot choose: krbk (kirishima/bakugou), stsg (gojo/geto), skts (sakusa/atsumu), bkak (bokuto/akaashi), bokuroo (bokuto/kuroo)

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

gods. So many of them tbh... I might one day muster the will to finish he was made to be broken. I want to finish the kunichi (kunigami/raichi) one but idk if I will ever get round to it. And the bllk/D&D one would take a lot of work, but maybe if/when I get back into bllk that'd help

16. What are your writing strengths?

I always struggle with this question bc I have really bad writing insecurities but recently I've been able to conclude that I think I'm reasonably good at comedic writing (people tend to find my fics quite funny), emotive writing (I make people cry/feel Emotions, even if said people don't usually when reading fics), and descriptive writing (I get lots of compliments that people can visualise exactly what I've described)

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

idk if it's a "true" weakness but I'm always paranoid that my dialogue is weak as balls. I also don't have much experience with writing long fic, and thus also character + plot development, but this is something I wanna work on. Oh, the biggest one is probs confidence in myself though!

I think it sounds like a cool idea if it works within the context!

Hahaha so technically I think the first fandom I ever wrote for was Spyro the Dragon when I was like... 6 or 7. On Ao3 though it was Harry Potter in 2014. When I returned to writing in 2022, the first one was My Hero Academia

Oooooooooh. I think my favourite is Strategies for Play. I adored writing it and it was the easiest one I've ever written. Plus writing Bokuto/Akaashi/Kuroo/Iwaizumi dynamics was *chefs kiss*. i think a part of why it can feel so hard for me to write is bc a lot of what i write is "two people talking" scenes, where i have only a general idea about how the conversation starts, maybe how it ends (and only a couple of beats in between at most)

i might have some idea of how i'd want the conversation to go, but ideas usually pop up as i write, and i have to decide if those ideas are worth pursuing if they are, then it's possible that the conversation will flow away from whatever beat i had previously been aiming for that could be alright if i'm not married to the idea of having the beat be in the scene, but sometimes that just isn't the case, and i have to scrap the idea and go back

for chapter 7 in particular, i knew generally how i wanted it to start, and i knew i wanted a couple of beats in there, not all of which made it to the final version the ones that did include ruby talking about how her studying's been going before getting distracted by cookies, a couple of kisses, and yang tasting strawberry but one of the things that didn't make it through rewriting was yang saying "yummy" after their first kiss (in the scene i mean) and ngl, i cut it bc the second-hand embarrassment was too much for me i also had the ending be them going out in the woods for a walk, but i wasn't a big fan of that even when i first wrote it, so i was fine scrapping that

oh yeah one thing that made it through both versions i wrote was yang chiding ruby for being too greedy, though in the first version it was to do with kisses, as opposed to cookies and that was absolutely me referencing my onk oneshot Greedy for no other reason than the fact that both onk and rwby have a character named ruby (am i ever going to write a crossover fic between my fics? it's more likely than you think by which i mean i have an idea about what i'd do for a crossover and not much else (not even a section in my onk notes doc, which i should do now that i think about it) so uh don't hold your breath for that lol)

i have to say though, i think the addition of the cookie eating bit basically doubled the length of the chapter and added a lot of character to their relationship, so im glad i thought that up somehow and that just goes to show that sometimes ideas that pop up while im just figuring out the dialogue can be good sometimes

oh god i just realized i haven't even talked about how i actually go about writing these "two people talking" scenes okay i'll save that for another post, this is long enough as is lol

ive done year in reviews for gacha games before but tbh i want to do one this time for my stories/ideas/ect

brief summary of story content in 2022:

january: seidjarn christmas carol (feh) written. got changed a little from earlier drafts bc of some canon things but good news is bc of that sola got added! the sola + otr friendship is like one of my favorite things in the kasumiverse tbh.

january: case files rerun. heavily underdeveloped lol. tbh i headcanon that the cfr is just like. the “recap of earlier story arc” episode in the anime. well plus ashlynn + vee friendship and treblesal blondel de nesle style but screaming about m c u movies.

winter-???: aime tachi returns to my focus! speaking of mcu movies lol. the reason is in no small part bc of both nwh and a friend who was encouraging of this au. i think this year’s focus saw a lot more development and the addition of nwh led to a more solidified smtm (and a1) part from at2. i also finished writing the prologue yea! but aside from that nothing much was done lol. but it was brainstormed! and ill take that as a win

golden week 2022: escape the riyoverse! again influenced by movies slightly but ill give it that since the whole thing has a hollywood vibe lol. like most fgo stories its not solidified but its a super big crossover of all of the gw crossover characters (+ into the fics) leading up into it. it also answered a lot of storybuilding questions/ect. (what happens to the allegrofaces, as we saw anda and coda in idolgers, but due to some worlds being erased from existence their allegros’ fates are unknown. as well as why aime’s keyblade is melodic feathers ie allegros keyblade, mostly just those plot points lol)

???: “fallen angel kisumi” storyline. well its literally just an idea at this point. but it has merit. basically kisumi finally gives up after witnessing the crew be awful for too long when it also takes bel’s life, and kisumi absorbs his powers and uses them to recruit underutilized final event bosses who deserved better. aside from this the “school au” kisumi, who has like. no canon anything but definitely exists as school bel’s penpal and long distance friend. possibly if fallen angel kisumi goes after school bel, its up to school kisumi to save him. lol. idk.

november-???: twsty au! oh gosh i wasnt expecting to even like this game but i did. i am not immune to idiot bird principal and platonic dumbass boys. the au includes idolger buddies lieven and jaeger, but also introduces new faces like norytx, wesley, and danry, as well as the obligatory treble insert (who actually is very cool not to be punny lol.) and it gave me somewhat of a version of those characters who i wont mention specifically that i can actually like. shoutout to more side characters (alfe maybe?, the vice principal, magic hat sensei, elias, and annand) bc u are also cool.

 january-december: heroesverse book 6! again managed to finish it! it was a wild ride but it got done. sufficiently harder than before bc my guy elm was given like. nothing. in canon. so i had to ~improvise~ but a lot of the story was around em and the main squad anyways lol. idk. it works for what b6 was but i at least know what i want to do differently for b7!

and since thats mostly done on to the specifics!

best new character: i think im gonna give it to em! she gets fleshed out in story and has a nice little character arc. i like that she’s both a foil to kasumi and someone for her to help/to be helped by. shes also on a side note a big spiderman fan so that gets a big thumbs up from me.

best returning character: i think ill give it to aime! that doesnt count bc shes a self insert but idk. i feel like more shes a tribute to my childhood and coping with stuff but idk. mixed bag. i love her character arc from marvel arc to nwh, with coping with losing someone while she was out of their life, as well as growing to overcome old grudges (both of which are very relatable to me now/hit too hard for me personally), and on the positive side learning to feel again and care again after having to harden herself emotionally to get through life (again, same hat). it is just also like. magically self indulgent to be able to put essentially my insert/the cooler, more in universe me next to my favorite characters from different franchises and tldr i highly recommend kh aus -pacha meme-

best dynamic: listen i am always weak for idolgers and vore musical trio. the anda and mokou dynamic specifically is just. soul healing. and vmt is sorta that cliched “jaded dad doesnt want to have to care again but damnit someones gotta take care of these children” but i live for this iteration specifically, as the jaded dad is a dead murderer and these children are a lab experiment and a space plant. kisumi + kasumi also has nwh spiderman pointing meme vibes and is soul healing so im putting it here too.

biggest criticism: i feel like (esp in kasumiverse) i need to work on balancing serious/comedic, writing shorter, and having more fun writing. idk it just kinda feels like a chore, and that im just checking for plotholes instead of having fun. i also need to just flippin sit down and actually write the aimeverse stuff tbh. i go on abt how fun it is but i never actually write it ohmygosh

hope for the next year: idk. i think in general its just for me to have fun writing! i think i had fun writing the marvel arc so like. more of that please.

a story id like to write: itd be nice to actually write the “ghosts take scrooge to his past/present/future” part of the seidjarn christmas carol, but idk. since otrs past isnt too developed idk.

and speaking of acc id like to write that. it seems self contained (lol) so i feel like it might be easier (double lol)

i think itd also be nice to write more treblesal and trebleizou, just for fun. as a treat. treblenizou too. and since antonio has writing now trebletonio (or andrea/antonio with treble cesario-ing hard in the background. like ofc i want characters like dolores or miles but pls andrea survivor now!)

So I took a while to figure out how to find this but it is 101,550 words, which is a lot more than i was expecting it to be!

3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

The Dumbest Genius Alive, 1000 lives (for you), the second (love of his life), princely duties, captain americana and the heartbreak prince 

4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I didn’t use too, because I somehow got it in my head that I was like inflating the number of comments artificially and everyone would think that was what I was doing to make my fic look more popular but then I got over myself and now I respond as much as possible.

I do however wait a couple of days after the fic has been published to respond to comments, and am not always great at responding to comments that come a couple months after the fic is published. For my multi-chapter fics, I try and hold off on responding to comments until the next update, which is a carry over from my fanfiction.net days.

5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

i dont think any of my actually angsty fics are still on ao3, so of the ones that ARE still on ao3 i would say the things i left behind (they never left me) and the things we tell ourselves in the dark have fairly angsty endings.

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

this is also kinda hard bc im not sure what exactly qualifies as a happy ending? im really bad at endings so i just sorta let my writing stop at what seems like a natural finishing point, which doesn’t really lend itself to a “happy ending” so to speak. but i feel like complan boy and shaadi karogee mujase? have fairly happy endings since one ends with a kiss and the other with a love declaration.

7. Do you write crossovers? If so what’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I dont write crossovers.

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Definitely. I’ve had people who weren’t happy about the ending of my story, of the character arc I’d decided on, and even just for the pairing I’d written. I’ve received hate both on ao3 and on tumblr.

9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Sort of? I have written vaguely nsfw stuff but I don’t know if I would classify them as smut per se. They’re mainly just drabbles and not that explicit, everything considered.

Not that I know of.

Unfortunately no :((

12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Nope, I don’t think it’s the kind of thing I would be comfortable doing if I’m being totally honest.

13. What’s your all time favorite ship?

It depends from fandom to fandom, and sometimes even within the fandom, but right now, for the mcu, buckytony is winning out.

14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Ohh I don’t wanna jinx it but im hoping to finish my blind tony stark AU, aaja nachle AU and stevetony divorce AU by the end of this year. I will also hopefully make some progress on the 1000 lives sequel. That being said these WIPs have been in the works for over a year so I don’t know how things are going to turn out. 

15. What are your writing strengths?

Uhh I don’t actually know? But based on comments/feedback I would say, characterisations and character study and impactful lines/dialogue.

16. What are your writing weaknesses?

Writing long fics, writing for characters other than my favs, and keeping track of plot points. The third one especially is why I now make sure to get all my fics beta’d (s/o to Amy and Steph) because sometimes I start subplots or have plot teasers that I completely forget to follow up on and it just gets so messy.

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I think it’s super cool! Whether it’s as a reader or a writer I always think it adds additional depth and nuance to the character, and makes the character feel more authentic and well-rounded. If I’m doing it, I generally use google translate, which I know isn’t the best and I’m always open to correction. When I’m writing my own mother tongue though, I tend to simply use a mix of english and kannada because for me that’s more authentic that full sentences, and kannada is phonetically different to english, so I think that mixing the languages and allowing the reader to infer understanding contextually means they won’t feel taken out of the story too much.

18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?

So if you mean first fandom on AO3 then it’s probably mcu, but first fandom EVER is a toss between Harry Potter, Mortal Instruments and Percy Jackson

19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?

Not really? I would definitely like to delve a bit more into poly ships but I’m not very confident in balancing those interactions - but apart from that I don’t think I have anything. There’s definitely ships I wish I could write more for, but I don’t think there’s any that I haven’t written anything for.

20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

Without a doubt it has to be begin again and 1000 lives.

hmm... honestly, i haven’t written anything with a majorly angsty ending. ashes, ashes, it all burns down is pretty angsty bc it’s mid-canon maiko set when zuko leaves the fire nation in book 3. you do what you can (until it’s not enough) is angsty in a similar way bc it ends with liz leaving (i.e. the end of sm: hoco)

What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

like 99% of my fics have happy endings 😂 If I’m What You Choose is probably Extra happy because it’s so cheesy with how flash and peter get together (which, to be fair, was my exact intention)

i am pretty sure i have only written two (2) proper crossovers, one of which was a winx club x teen titans crossover from middle school that is terrible and uh. i will never finish 😂

just before the semester started, however, i finished writing (by hand) an incredibly self-indulgent crossover between monk and medium! i plan to type it up and start posting it in december 🤞 it’s not necessarily a crazy crossover, to be fair, since they’re both crime shows and they actually aired around the same time. still, the concepts and tones of the shows are pretty different, so it was fun balancing that as i wrote!

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

yeah, a few times? the rude comment i remember most clearly was this person on Wattpad who left like,, an essay of a comment “critiquing” my rayllum fic and rating it on a scale of 1 to 10 and im like. bro. you really think i approached this self-indulgent college!au the way i write analyses for school?? the back button is right there. it’s right there. you didn’t have to read all of it 😂

i will say that i am incredibly fortunate that all hate i’ve gotten (again: not much) has been from high school or later; i never got any rude comments when i first started in middle school - which is, of course, when my writing sucked the most lmao - and i think that’s a major factor of why i’ve continued writing for so long. if people had said anything really cruel to me then, i think i would’ve taken it to heart more, yk?

nah, not my thing! something funny, tho, is that right now im really into medium (as i’ve talked about before) and like. i honestly don’t read smut, either. today i wrote:

1431 words of fanfic. i finally introduced a new character and it was so nice to have him in my story. it’s a crossover fic and it was leaning toward being mostly about one show, using the other as a backdrop, but adding this character really is going to make, at least this particular arc, more of a balance btwn the two stories as CS is very important to the story and will have his own pov sections. which !!!

924 words of my original story. i just want to write J sneaking around the castle and getting into trouble bc she’s reading things she shouldn’t be, but i have to think about everything else in my story, like what F is doing, how C will be redeemed, how G is going to be like a damsel in distress, etc. etc. there’s so to write and figure out.

additional observations: since today was supposed to be my deadline, i’m going to go into a little more detail about what i think i did well/failed.

when i started, i felt like i was going to be able to easily hit 60k for each story, but i only hit from 42k-45k, so i managed to write 71% & 76% of my stories. i have to say those numbers made me feel dejected, but then i realized that i wrote 87,650 words in total. which, had i focused on just one story, i probably would have been able to hit my target easily.

it makes me almost want to go back and write just one story, instead of juggling two. but i also realized that i actually like being able to switch my brain from one story to the other when one story is being difficult. and considering how hard my original story has been to write, i’m grateful i had my fanfic to write, too, otherwise if i had chosen one i 1) would have never made it far bc i would’ve gotten stuck too often and too early and 2) i would not be aware of how much work the other story actually needed (and despite my fic being easier to write, it’s not exactly easy).

what i realize i need to do in july to make it easier on myself:

give myself breaks. i didn’t account for breaks here, so i always felt pressured to hurry up and write every day. it didn’t work. i need breaks to relax properly or actually work on problems that my story needs to be worked out.

outline shortly after i write a scene. i forget to do that, bc i get lazy, but charting my progress helps a lot.

go back to writing first thing in the morning. i had a set time at the start of this so i could write, but as it became harder to write, i procrastinated and delayed when i would write. but then it would get difficult bc a million things happen in the afternoon/evening. so i need to make certain i am able to have an early time to write my stories with as little interruptions as possible.

i will let myself write out of order. i don’t need this much with my fanfic bc i know more of what order the scenes are supposed to be compared to my original fic, but i know that writing scenes as they come to me will benefit me. so, at least for my original story, i’ll start doing that, too.

set certain days to character build. again, i don’t need this for my fanfic as much, but i always make excuses to avoid doing character building work for my original story and it ends up slowing me down bc i don’t have the fundamental details of certain characters known by heart.

and that’s probably it for now.
