Despite his attempts, he knew he wouldn't ever be able to resist her, and for that, he didn't care what he had to go through, he was going to have her. Because she was his, and he was hers, no matter who knew.

And now we continue...

With his newfound set of mind, Lee made it his priority to say hi to Y/N every morning, smile, wave, and even engage he in conversation.  "You really are desperate aren't ya?" he thought, trying to be as gushy and nice as possible.  He was trying to be so different he wanted to gag.  Sometimes he wondered if this new act was something that Y/N would get used to and he would have to keep up this act for the rest of his life.

Y/N knew Lee was being weird.  The first thought she had was that he was sick, but now, as he openly made eye contact with her, spoke to her, even sometimes winked, she found herself thinking of the knives expert more than she thought she ever would.  He was sweet yes, but she's lying to herself if she didn't like the true Lee she knew.  Back when he was very avoidant of her, she saw who Lee truly was, but at afar.  He was snarky, mysterious, funny, British to the bone, and strong mentally and physically.

Barney saw this shit from the very beginning.  But, even as he didn't want his baby sister falling in love and being left brokenhearted, he knew the two good enough to know that they needed each other.  At one point, once he saw Lee start acting like a lovesick puppy, he started to secretly root for them, joining the ship Yin Yang and Toll had built months ago.  This didn't mean he was going to make it easy for the man either though.  They still all had a job to do and love is going to get in their way if they don't focus.

Dropping down in the forests below, the Expendables, clad in black suits, weapons to attack 5 states, and high tech gear to guide them through the thick forest.  Barney, splitting the team off to get to the best views of the town under attack, tells the group where to go while giving them all ear pieces to keep up with communication.  Gunnar, going along the outskirts where the forest meets the open town lands, squats, getting a visual on the sniper at the top tower, utterly excited to finally use his new toy: a big ass bazooka.  Toll and Yin Yang sticking together to find shelters near one another but still separated.  Barney, not wanting to leave his sister alone on a mission, appoints Lee to her, knowing the two have each other's backs while still not getting into Barney's dangerous line of sight.

As the group splits, its only natural for the foreign enemies to spot them.  With the first cry, most likely to alert the opposing team's members, made Y/N's stomach tie up in knots, always an unsettling noise to be paired with the impending war ahead.  Times like these make her go into a dangerous trance, back to the war and military she was a part of for 10 years.  Even as the images flash through her mind, she tries hard to yank them away, focusing her for the time being.

As the war raged on, the pairs of teams the Expendables once had have broken up accidentally, communication soon being cut off during the blasts and explosions, leaving Y/N alone.  She had dropped it as she was taking cover from the harsh blows.  With her ear piece gone, she had missed Yin Yang as he had pinpointed the next blast of a missile, not their own, but the rivals as they aimed in her direction.  The team screaming her name through the earpieces, not knowing if she could quite hear them.  By the time Y/N saw her attacker, she only had minimal time to run away.  Getting a great distance away, her lungs burned as he leg caught a rock.  The missile falling seconds later, far away, but not far enough to stop her from the debris crashing and colliding with her small form.

Lee had turned a corner just in time to watch the horrific event play out in his eyes.  Sprinting, he rushes to Y/N, seeing her bloodstained clothes, cuts, and bruises.  Upon his arrival, she looked at him with such fear and pain, almost as much to make her cry as the adrenaline started to run out, the sheer intensity of the pain finally settling in.  Lee held her tight, moving themselves to the closest form of shelter, plopping down, and cradling her body into his own.  She was sitting in his lap, arms weak, and head leaning on his shoulder.  She had made it out fairly lucky now that Lee had gotten a closer look, but not lucky enough for a piece of shrapnel to lodge itself within her torso.

"Your gonna be fine, I swear!  You have to be okay!  I should've never left you behind," Lee almost choked out, as tears threatened to fall.

"Lee, I'm fine.  See?  It's just this piece, if you don't touch it, it doesn't hurt, so can ya' please stop shaking me?" Y/N responded jokingly, trying to lighten the mood as she didn't want Lee to spike her anxiety even higher.  "Do you have an earpiece on you?  Please, get Barney," she asked, wanting her brother more than ever.

"Yeah...Yeah I can do that," he said as he contacted Barney, holding Y/N in an iron grip.  "I was so worried you were dead...I didn't know what I would do with myself if you had. I- I-" Lee stuttered, getting lost in her Y/E/C eyes as they peered up at him.

"You what Lee?" she asked, starting to feel a little lighter with the amount of blood dripping.

"I love you Y/N," he admitted, now fearing for her life more now that he had admitted what he's wanted to say for forever.

With this, a lazy smile appeared on Y/N's face, chuckling lightly with delight, "I love you too Lee."  He could only muster a look of utter disbelief before the rest of the gang showed up, the rest of the mission finishing out in a blur.  At some point, whilst making their way to the hangar of the plane, Y/N had dozed in and out of consciousness, seeing Lee running her away from the mission's town, seeing the plane, the shrapnel being removed by Barney's concentrated and light hands, and later, waking up in a bed, in the hospital with Lee in the chair beside her.  Both of his hands wrapped around her tiny one.

He wakes up once he felt the bed move slightly, Y/N stretching her long worn out body.  Lee bounces out of the chair immediately, asking her if she needs anything, "The only thing I need is this British guy to sit next to me and play with my hair," Y/N responds playfully, Lee smirking as he takes off his boots, keeping his socks, and laying beside Y/N on the hospital bed, both dozing off together.

A quick, almost blinding light flashes once as snickers and mumbling was heard in the direction of the hospital room door.  With the pair now fully awake, and possibly more afraid than they were when Y/N was attacked, they both make eye contact with the res of the Expendables watching the pair, Barney front and center.

"Look, I-" Lee had started, trying to come up with an excuse for how they ended up like this, but ultimately coming up empty and out of excuses.

"No, ya' gonna listen to me.  You take good care of her, ya' hear me?  I'm gonna bust ya' balls if ya' don't, alright?" Barney answered defensively.  "You have my blessing, but ya' better not fuck it up.  I'm warning ya'," he continues, motioning for the team to give them privacy, Toll wiggling his eyebrows before he walks out.

Y/N, falling into a fit of laughter, moves to lay on her back, unable to flip on the right from where the stitches from the shrapnel were placed.  She looks up at Lee, him blocking her from the edge of the right side, her falling in the blissful feeling of love.

"I'm gonna be walking on eggshells for awhile I guess..." he glances at Y/N before continuing, "but I know it's worth it."

With this, Y/N cups Lee's right cheek, pulling him down lightly to capture his lips with her own, sealing the bond they've spent forever building.  Knowing that wherever, whenever, they are always a team, and are always going to be better as long as they are together.

it was a typical morning in casablanca plaza. all of the staff had gathered in, and were going through their opening routines. in wild side inkorporated, it was so quiet, you could hear a pin drop. vince is always the last to show up, so it was just the tattoo artists for now. luna was making today’s playlist, while billy scribbled a design on some scrap paper. lennon, a nonbinary newbie, sanitized their station.

“what day is it?” billy asked lennon. 

“saturday.” they confirmed as they checked the clock. billy’s eyes drifted to the side in realization, while luna ran a hand through her multicolored mane.

“oh, shit.” she whispered.

“what?”

“we never told you this, but vince brings his daughter to work on the first saturday of each month!” lennon chuckled at the mental picture of the two hiding from a little kid.

“i’m sure it’s nothing to worry about?” the rookie giggled once more.

“imagine veruca salt but, like, maybe 5% less stable.” just then, vince came in with his daughter, liesl, ready for a new day at the tattoo parlor. liesl had her mom’s auburn waves, and her dad’s smile. she stared at her tablet, ears covered by a pair of lol surprise headphones. liesl even had a small, glittery purse shaped like a unicorn!

“morning!” vince waved before taking off his leather jacket, and helping liesl with her pink coat.

“good morning, vince!” the artists chimed in nearly perfect unison. the ginger never looked up from whatever was on her screen.

“...and liesl.” luna muttered. lennon took the opportunity to introduce themselves; they bent down to her level, and put on their friendliest voice.

“nice to meet you, leisl!” they said with a warm grin.

“...hi.” liesl greeted. unlike most children her age, she seemed unfazed by their punk appearance.

“i don’t think we’ve met; my name is lennon!” lennon put out their hand to shake, which she accepted.

“lemon?” the little girl asked.

“no, lennon, with an “n”.” they laughed it off, it was a common mistake.

“daddy, how much longer until the shops open?” liesl already started her whining kick.

“riiight about…” vince looked at the giant clock on the wall, only seconds away from opening time. “now!” at last, it finally struck 10:30, and casablanca plaza was officially open!! “here’s $20, go crazy.” vince handed her three $5 bills, and five singles. 

liesl let out a cheer as she ran out the door. whether her father was being sarcastic was a mystery; but alas, she took his word as gospel. in vince’s eyes, $20 was nothing; but to any six year old, it was winning the lottery! ironically, there was a patch on vince’s jacket that read “greatest father in the galaxy” under liesl’s birthdate.

she blended in with the first flood of shoppers just fine. liesl only gets to visit casablanca once a month, so she has to make the most of every trip. how does she do so, you ask? nothing much, she just makes people’s day a living hell. no one questions vince on why he lets his young daughter run around unsupervised. 

liesl’s first stop was thunderbolt coffeehouse, where she has her own signature drink. the beverage in question is 6oz of water mixed with the tiniest splash of white chocolate syrup. because it’s basically nothing, liesl only had to pay a dollar. having just opened, tommy was the only person in the store.

“good morning, liesl! the usual?” he adjusted his burgundy visor with a lightning bolt sewed on it.

“you know it!” she left a dollar on the counter to pay. tommy prepared liesl’s first of many mall treats. behind the display case, liesl noticed some brown and orange squares sitting atop a doily. “what are those?”

“pumpkin cheesecake bars.”

“i want one!” she demanded as she tapped the sneeze guard.

“you’re only allowed your special drink.” tommy said softly, yet firmly: “ ‘cause you nearly bought the place out, remember?” he referred to her first visit, where she blew all her money on thunderbolt fare, and didn’t finish most of it.

“can’t you make one exception for your favorite customer?” even liesl’s best puppy eyes weren’t charming enough for him!

“i’m afraid not.” luckily, tommy has more patience for her than anyone else in the mall.

“you’re so inconsiderate!” leisl scoffed as she folded her arms.

“it’s just what your dad told me-” tommy sighed.

“and you’re ugly, just like your mom.”

“sorry to hear that, have a free cheesecake bar.” he forked over the seasonal goodie, knowing mr. simmons would freak if he caught him. but hey, if it’ll get the twerp to zip it! she swallowed one bite of the pumpkin bar, and shoved it into her purse.

on her way to poisonous novelties, she saw that dee, her youth group leader, was here! she went over to his little cart, where he handed out pamphlets promoting the church.

“hi, mr. snider!” she doesn’t often see him anywhere other than the chapel.

“hi, liesl!” although she was the problem child of dee’s youth group, he still treated her with the same amount of respect as anyone else. “excited for service? as a belated halloween treat, we’re watching wishbone in the legend of sleepy hollow!”

“never heard of it.” liesl shrugged.

“i used to watch wishbone as a kid; i think you’ll like it.”

“are you giving out zebra cakes, or oatmeal pies after?” part of the only reason she even bothered going to service was because of the snacks dee would hand out.

“popcorn!” 

“ooh, i can’t wait!” “i’ll see you tomorrow!” dee waved to her, and went back to work. if only dee knew how she treated everyone else....

she went up the escalator, and ran into the candy store so fast, she didn’t notice bobby sitting behind the counter! her main priority was getting as many sweets as she could while staying within her budget.

“did you have a fun halloween?” he attempted to make some friendly small talk.

“yeah, i went as butterbean!” she boasted as she got a paper bag, “my costume had shoes, and wings, and even a wig!”

“that’s so cool!” bobby started to approach the young girl. “i, uh, was barney, the purple dinosaur!” he lied. the poisonous novelties gang actually went as steel panther, with him as lexxi. leisl was barely listening, as she wasted no time shoving random stuff to the bag. “don’t you still have halloween candy?”

“traded most of it.” suddenly, liesl reached into the container of marshmallow bananas, and started picking out the fluffiest ones with her bare hands! 

“can you not-”

“nobody eats these anyway!”

“you didn’t use the tongs, so you have to pay for that entire thing!” he wished he could be as intimidating and strong as bret, but didn’t have the confidence.

“how much?” at this point, liesl found it was best to accept her fate.

“$15.”

“can i keep them?” she asked as she handed bobby some wadded up dollars. his lips widened into an almost taunting smile, and just shook his head no.

liesl made her way to the foodcourt; she had just enough money for a basket of cheese fries. she topped the greasy goodness with ketchup, regular and lite mayo, and barbeque sauce. she walked to kiss kosmetics, on the other side of the mall, as she ate. liesl stood outside the door to find vinnie texting, while paul helped a customer match their foundation.

“you need to finish that before you go inside!” vinnie exclaimed, setting down his phone. the basket wobbled in her hand as she carried it with only four fingers. 

“i’ll be careful, i promise!” as predicted, liesl tripped over nothing and fell face first. she dropped the unholy sauce with a side of fries onto the once pristine white tiles. liesl rolled onto her back on the floor, and whined like she was half her age.

“if you think you’re getting out of here scottfree, you are sorely mistaken!” although paul didn’t have kids, he went full dad mode!

“i do what i want!!” liesl stamped her feet in exasperation. she made such a scene that someone started to leave!

“i’m calling your dad!” paul had both parents on speed dial, just in case. saturday used to be his favorite day of the week, but thanks to her, it’s thursday!

“get to cleaning.” vinnie rested some napkins and a spray bottle of tile cleaner on her stomach.

liesl dragged herself up and hastily began to pick up her mess.

“yeah, vince? this is paul; you’ll never believe what your daughter did today!” the tantruming redhead slammed the bottle on the floor. “we keep telling her not to come in with food, and she did anyway! she dropped whatever she was eating, and now she’s refusing to clean up.”

“i’m getting grounded for falling?” liesl threw her head back.

“you don’t think i know about what happened at the candy store?”

“what’d she do?” vince asked on the other line.

“i got a text from bobby saying that she took out all the marshmallow bananas with her hands. your wife needs to pick her up before she causes any more chaos.” 

“put her on.” paul came out, and brought the phone to her ear. “liesl, what did i tell you about manners?!” 

“there weren’t any signs…”

“you don’t need signs, you need common sense!” paul rolled his eyes.

“you march to the parlor, get your jacket, and you’re getting in mom’s car without a fight, do you hear me?!” 

“yes, daddy…” she sniffled. “bye, guys.” leisl hung her head as she left the store pathetically sobbing.

“good riddance!” paul sighed in relief, more than proud of himself for successfully setting the little brat straight.

She knows that Cotton is innocent and Maureen Prescott’s real killer is still out there somewhere. Someone else killed Maureen, got blood on Cotton’s coat, and planted it in his car. It was a frame job. She never wavers in this belief and is determined to prove it to the world. And although she’s insensitive in her tactics, she’s right. In a room full of cops, Gale is the only one to see that the killer at Windsor College is murdering people who represent the victims of the Woodsboro murders. She thinks to ask about Cici Cooper’s real name, and immediately makes the connection to Casey Becker. Gale is the one who has the idea to go through all of the footage Joel shot to see if they can find someone who is always nearby in order to narrow down possible suspects. Gale is a skilled manipulator and knows what strings to pull to get people to do what she needs them to do. She plays on Dewey’s crush in order to get him to clue her on what’s going on with the murders and plays on his affections, which gets him to bring her into the party at Stu’s house. After seeing the photos of Maureen Prescott that the killer is leaving behind, Gale wonders about her age at the time, and is the only one to consider why the killer is leaving photos from that specific period in her life, leading to the discovery that she once worked as an actress at Sunrise Studios. She also immediately rules Milton out as a suspect, even though Jennifer insists they should pursue him. However, Gale’s claim that he’s a pervert and not a killer turns out to be correct.

Tertiary Extroverted Sensing [Se]: Gale wants to be in the thick of the action. She doesn’t just want to report the news. She wants to be part of it. Gale enjoys being able to give eyewitness accounts and wants to be the news. Gale doesn’t mind putting herself in dangerous situations in order to get her story. She has no problem taking risks and getting her hands dirty. She is incredibly opportunistic and uses her resources effectively. She’s plenty capable of improvising in the moment as new information comes to light. Gale thinks quickly on her feet and is able to alter her plans when necessary. Gale is extremely aware of her physical surroundings and is pretty good at remaining alert at all times. She uses whatever is available in her environment to fight the killer, such as hitting him with whatever object is nearby (such as a telephone) or knocking over a ladder to block the door from opening. After Mrs. Loomis shoots Mickey, Gale immediately attempts to rush over and grab Mickey’s gun, but unfortunately Mrs. Loomis is quicker and shoots her before she can get it.

Inferior Introverted Feeling [Fi]: Making friends isn’t Gale’s priority. She doesn’t have time to engage in small talk, which is evident from her first exchange with “Debbie Salt.” Gale often lacks compassion and empathy, and often forgets to treat people like human beings. She doesn’t care about making friends and has a habit of being rude in her one-on-one encounters. Gale lacks morality and there is very little that she’s unwilling to do in order to get what she wants. Although Gale doesn’t typically care who she offends, she does care about the people who have gained her respect. Even though she reduces Dewey to a punchline in her book, she feels bad that she hurt him and apologizes to him when they meet again. Her career is a top concern, but she does want to help Sidney, too. It’s hard for her to put anyone or anything before her job, which is the reason behind most of her fights with Dewey. Though, she decides against going live on air after the events at Windsor College, opting to get in the ambulance with Dewey instead. According to Dewey, Gale has a good heart deep down, but she tends to hide it because she’s afraid sensitivity will be construed as a weakness. Her main form of bonding with him is through sleuthing, and she attempts to tap into this in order to connect.

Joel: Hi. I’m Joel. The affiliate sent me. I’m your new cameraman. Gale: Yeah. You got experience? Joel: Huh? Uh, yeah. I mean, I’m local, but I shot the bingo finals. I almost got an award for that. Proving to be Exhausted

When I set my intention of Bold Freedom for the year, I had no idea how much freedom I’d find from myself and the old patterns I've been clinging onto in my life. When I set the intention, I wasn't quite sure where it would lead but trusted that it would cause me to step into something greater. One of the main areas I've been finding freedom is from my constant need to always be doing something. 

I've been going nonstop most of my life, so when I do slow down or take a moment to sit, I feel anxiety and like I should be doing something. It's pretty clear that I'm no stranger to ambition or taking on a good challenge. And most of the challenges I commit to are ones I create for myself. I'm much like Barney Stinson (HIMYM), I hear of a challenge and raise the bar..."Challenge accepted!". I often accept or create challenges to prove that I can do it. For a while, I got that I was trying to prove myself to others..."Look at me! I did it! I won!" And it wasn't until recently I realized, I often set challenges because I don't believe that I can do it. So I'm essentially trying to prove to myself that I can. 

And with every realization, there's often a greater lesson to be learned or discovered. 

I’ve been trying to be more intentional about slowing down. Slowing down is one of my biggest struggles and even when I think I’m doing so, my body quickly reminds me I’m not. It’s a constant practice for me and one that requires great discipline. I was gently reminded several times in Thailand that I was not slowing down, and finally, my body had to step in and harshly remind me. I finally got to a place in Thailand where I was understanding this need. And it all shattered when I returned to the states. 

I came back to the states for an event in Portland called World Domination Summit. I flew from Bangkok to Dallas prior to going to Portland. I wanted to give myself a few days to acclimate (and get my hair done...#priorities) and refresh before jumping into this event. I knew the event would be packed but was not fully prepared for just how busy it would be. I signed up for so many meetups and sessions to the point some were overlapping. I gave myself absolutely no downtime -- and I'm someone who needs solitude and time alone. And to add to it, my sleep patterns were completely messed up from jet lag and all of the timezone changes. I was sleeping 4-5 hours a night for 10 days straight. Your body can only withstand intense scenarios before it hits shutdown mode. 

Insanity = doing the same thing again and again and expecting different results. 

I returned to Dallas from Portland and slept a solid 11 hours. It was enough for my body to briefly reset and trick me into thinking I was well enough to set off again. I felt pretty okay, so naturally, it was time for a new adventure! I woke up on Friday morning and thought it a brilliant idea to drive 10 hours to Tennessee to see family and friends. And to add to my brilliance, I added my 3 and 5 1/2-year-old nieces to the mix. But don't worry, I'm not insane. I'm an Aunt Extraordinaire remember? I spent 6 days with my munchkins while catching up with family and friends. All the while continuing to not get healthy amounts of sleep. I drove back to Dallas at the end of the stent and added another niece to the mix -- my 12-year-old, Milly. I knew she would be a big help and needed the support for the long drive back. Milly stayed with us for a week before flying back to TN on her own. And for the record, no one asked me to do this. It was all on my own crazy accord. 

Things have continued to be hectic, yet I think I'm finally starting to get it. My coach has been encouraging me to create routine and structure in my life, and SLOW DOWN (especially with a nomadic lifestyle). I've been resisting the concept of slowing down. In my mind it means I have to be less ambitious or take on less. And it’s not about that at all. It's about being more mindful and intentional with what I do take on and to give myself quiet time and moments of rest each day. 

You have to slow down to speed up. When you're going so fast, you miss so much. When you take the time to take a slower pace or mindset, you're better able to check-in and see what serves or doesn't serve you. 

One of my biggest realizations came at 3 in the morning recently. I’ve always looked at my go-go lifestyle as something to be proud of. Look at all that I'm doing! What I had been missing all along is that my need to prove myself or keep myself going entailed a bigger underlying issue -- AVOIDANCE. I've been taking on more and more so that I can avoid conflict and drama. I began this in high school. I grew up in a home with an alcoholic parent for much of my childhood and college years. In high school, I began pouring myself into activities so I could avoid being home. I replaced avoidance with ambition. And this pattern has continued. Staying busy is comfortable for me (whether I’m avoiding or not).

Knowledge is powerful. Once you have a realization and breakthrough, you can begin to take the steps needed toward changing it. 

This was a glass shattering Aha! moment for me. Suddenly I could see areas where I was keeping myself busy to avoid conflict, difficult conversations, or areas of healing. And while I can look back and be proud of all that I've accomplished, I can also see where I pushed myself too much. Yoga Teacher Training is a prime example. I signed up the day before it started. And (naturally) wanted to create my own challenge. We had a requirement of taking 60 yoga classes during the 8-week program. Most people take their time and do not finish it during that time. I set a goal for myself to complete all requirements within the 8 weeks. By the end I had completed 73 classes in 8 weeks on top of still having a full-time corporate job. I pretty much pushed everything aside in my life to make this happen. I was missing the point of yoga and why I was doing it. I realized later on that I was pushing myself to avoid being fully present at my job (I knew at that point I would be quitting in the near future, but afraid to let my team know); and I was keeping myself busy to avoid healing from an important relationship in my life that took a sudden change. The busier I stayed, the easier it was to push it away and avoid dealing with it. 

I'm finally grasping the importance around slowing down. And can get that I have nothing to prove to others or myself. I don't have to avoid difficult conversations or even my own greatness. It won't change overnight and there will be moments of relapse, yet by having this revelation, I can take small steps towards incorporating stillness into my routine no matter where I am in the world.
