"Will you overthinking this?" He asked as we were walking hand in hand in the park.
Me, fully aware I have already started overthinking the moment he mentioned that her friend broke off her relationship: "....... juuup"
"What are you overthinking about? Lets discuss it together, let me help"... I explained how, maybe, now that she is single, she might try to get over a guy by getting under another one. Or maybe, since you guys tall about problems and are pretty close, she turns to flirting now that she is single. "Okay and? Why would I get into that while I have my girlfriend at home? I would say no thank you. Also, I don't think she is the person to do that. I have met her before she was in a relationship, and she also wasn't like this then". Okay, well, .. maybe she will have heard bad things about me and will not like me or she will think I am not good enough for you, or too much, and tell you to break up with me. I mean, I'm in a relationship with you, not with her, but ja, well... He put his arms around me and stopped us from walking on, hugging me from behind. "Sometimes I forget how insecure you can be. Do you really think I'll just break up with you because someone tells me to? And besides, I think you should meet her. She is really kind and everytime I mentioned something, she was always more on the reassuring side." Well, I also thought your other friend was kind.. "..... true. ..... I don't have an argument against that."
"So... if she were to still be in a relationship, would it be okay? .. meh, I feel like that's a bad excuse. "Yeah she is in a relationship anyway" , as if that changes anything. Doesn't that sound like a bad thing to you?" Hmm. Well. Honestly, I felt better when she was in a relationship, assuming it wasn't an u know who typa relationship. It's always a 2 people's decision. And that way, I am at least sure that one side is on the no side (as I said it out loud, I realized how fuckedup it sounded.) "Shouldn't you trust me to already be on the no side?" .... I should, yes. I just don't know what to make of the fact that you told me that you can't promise me that it won't happen again. "That was a year ago" .... "back then I wasn't super sure, and before that I was def not sure. Also, I did not want to force you to trust me (def different exact words from his, buthey, u get the point.). It's been a year." Would you get back to it and say something different now then? "Yes. I am sure that it will never happen again".
And there it was. I know he is a firm believer in actions over words, but sometimes I need words to be sure. He told me that he tells me the truth, and I know he does. Thus, if he tells me, I believe him. So. Maybe this is what I needed to truly get to trusting him again. His word. It's not a signed contract, I know. I can't sue him if his words turn out to be false. Though, I needed this. I needed his faith in himself to make sure it won't happen again. Fuck damn hey. I needed him to believe in himself. If he doesn't believe he will stop it the next time, who am I to believe so? Well well well. Before he left, if our roommate wasn't sitting right next to me, I would've said after he asked me if I'm still okay (for like, the 3th time): "if you say it won't happen again, I trust you." Fuck. And I'd mean it. I feel like I have entered a new reality. One in which it is safe for me to have faith in him. In which, sure, maybe a girl will flirt with him, but I can laugh about it. I can be proud to be with that hotstuff that she can't help but talk to. I can make jokes about it and raise my eyebrows up and down. I can do it all, and enjoy the situation, knowing. Truly knowing. That it doesn't matter at all if the other party is on the "yes-boat". He isn't, and he won't get onto it either. Even if a chance presents itself, he won't even see it as one. He has the set in stone plan to come back home to me. Even if she would get him drunk and touch him all over, ... he will say no. Even if it scares me more with booze, he is still himself. He doesn't get into a crazy trans and turns into a different person with different values. He is still the same person who held my hand as we walked in the autumn colored park, and said that it would never happen again.
It feels like something in me has been freed. As if trust was a fluffy creature within me, which was tied down. His words freed it. It still can't believe that the tiny trust guy is free. That it's safe to stand up now and run and smile and truly trust. It's astonished, grasping for those words that set it free. Wanting to hold them and craving for them to invade its veins with its lightning energy and brightness. May it no longer feel the need to stay on the ground; the ties have been undone. Fuck.

going to a cafe with the jujutsu kaisen men a/n: (based on irl experience with a wide variety of subpar men) đ gojo's order being my order...aurkay!
gojo â def the type to walk in and push his sunglasses down to check out the place. his order def goes something like a venti caramel macchiato with almond milk, two pumps of vanilla and two pumps of hazelnut, and a little caramel swirl at the top. smiles and is friendly to all the baristas, he's never rude to workers. tells the barista is gojo, with an o. whoever's unfortunate enough to be stuck next to him is doomed to hear him wax poetic about how coffee beans are the soul of the earth, and its 'really deep, you wouldn't get it lol'. if you order a black coffee, he'll ask if everything is okay at home. can't leave the cafe without ordering a $8.00 sweet treat and then wondering why all his purchases are adding up
geto â walks in as if he's a regular and tells the barista that he'll have his 'regular'. the barista has never seen him before. probably orders a flat white, double shot of espresso, no foam. he always says he doesn't have to pretend to like foam because he's chill like that. he'll ask for the wifi password, but only so he can show off how good he is at working in a cafe, but his ass is on coolmathsgames. will nod and pretend to care about whatever you're saying but he's still thinking about coolmathsgames. will also drop random metaphors like 'life is just like coffee. you either take it strong or with sugar.' you tell him to save the bad metaphors for his cult.
nanami â doesn't wander or hesitate when he enters the cafe. checks his watch every five minute. orders a black coffe, medium, and adds one packet of sugar. he's pretty good at ordering what he wants efficiently, and it leaves even the barista worried. he's here to relax so don't ask him any unnecessary question because this man needs a break. actually enjoys eavesdropping on people's conversations, and ends up tilting his angle to snoop on gossip better. avoids small talk like its another curse. you can't really make him react too much in a cafe, unless you spill coffee on his freshly pressed suit. will be passive aggressive and suggest that the cafe chooses better music. likes a good, dependable pastry. apple danishes are a favourite.
sukuna â prefers tea, without debate. but still orders relatively normal things. likes a good latte with chocolate syrup. but the king of curses kinda has to look cool, so he powers his way through a black coffee, with no sugar or milk. you swear his eyes are tearing up as he pretends to like it. after every sip of coffee, he sighs really loudly and it gets a bit annoying. even after you ask what's wrong, he says its nothing and continues to sigh loudly. nanami may be the one who eavesdrops, but sukuna is the one who interferes. will turn around in his chair to give unsolicited advice, but he genuinely thinks he's being helpful by telling schoolgirls to buy cleavers to chop their friends' hands off. is mildly offended when they move tables and give him weird looks. passes loud comments on other people and tells couples when he thinks they will breakup. attempts to connect to the wifi three times before threatening to burn the router.
toji â the barista asks if he wants a pastry with his drink and he asks 'do i look like the type of man to eat a muffin?' but if they're free, he'll take two. sits with his back to the wall like he's in a mob movie. god help anyone who sits too close to him, he really just doesn't trust anyone in his personal space. doesn't even acknowledge the existence of others until he's had at least three sips of his coffee. you could tell him his house is on fire, and heâd just mutter that he can't do anything about it now. types the wifi password on his phone with one finger like a caveman. tells parents to 'control their spawn' but entertains kids with coin tricks when no-one is looking. sometimes struggles to fit the lid on his go-to cup, and refuses to asks for help. wrestles with it for five minutes, getting increasingly annoyed before rushing out the door.
choso (this one is dedicated to pookie @creamflix) â frowns at the menu like it's written in an ancient language, like wtf is affogato. if someone behinds him coughs, he scolds them and says he's going as fast as he cans. spends 10 minutes deciding and then panics at the last second, tells the barista to give him whatever. if the barista asks any follow up questions (like milk preferences) he genuinely short circuits, "what kinds of milk are there?" he's genuinely baffled that there are options beyond 'cow.' he'll point at a pastry and ask what's in it. the barista explains and he replies with 'okay i trust you.' always ends up picking a wobbly table by accident and spends 15 minutes trying to fix it with folded napkins. if someone asks to share his table, he'll look like they just asked for his kidneys. if someone asks for his opinion on his pastry, its always a dumbass cryptic answer like 'its interesting.' uses his phone on full brightness and everyone can see him look up 'how to pronounce cafe au lait.' cleans up after himself because he's nice like that. if the staff get his order wrong, he never says anything even if it tastes like dirt.

mess me up - paige bueckers
pairing: paige bueckers x fem!reader wc: 6.1k content warnings: language, abuse of italics, grammatically incorrect past tense flashback, smut robbery(?), pretty mature but nothing graphic synopsis: your friends invited you out to a frat party to celebrate the menâs team winning the NCAA tournament where you bump into paige bueckers, the girl who you're in love with and who you ghosted for a month after hooking up with her. a much-needed conversation at the party forces you to revisit difficult memories and give her the closure sheâs been seeking. notes: idk what this is! based loosely off of 'friends' and 'mess me up' by chase atlantic. unfortunately the smut robbery line is for real, like it's smut in the way lacroix tastes like real fruit (which is to say it's not smut, but like concepts of smut... đ (i've never had lacroix idk if this is accurate)) side note i hate writing in past tense but doing a traditional flashback scene is corny as hell! idk if it matters but this is set april 2024 (w/ a february 2024 flashback); doesn't really affect anything, so... anyway, second post on tumblr, lmk if we're rocking w it đââïž
For the record, you didnât want to come to this party.
Itâs hot, sweaty, loud, and all you can smell is the same brand of menâs cologne and weed. The air is both stale and somehow feels wet and all you can think about is getting back to your apartment so you can shower and go to bed. You had a mock trial bright and early the next morning and your law professor was a stickler for punctuality and presentability â showing up with wrinkled clothes and smelling like a frat party was a sure-fire way to fail, and you had too much riding on your grades to let that happen.
The frat (whose name youâve already forgotten) was celebrating the NCAA tournament win for the UCONN menâs basketball team. Theyâd apparently gone back to back, which you guess is cool, but you swore off basketball a long time ago. If you had your way, youâd be at home, three steps into your skincare routine, but you let peer pressure get the best of you and allowed your friends to drag you out.
Itâd be fun, they said. You never come out with us! Youâre spending all this tuition money and youâre not even taking advantage of it. How can you say you donât like it if youâve never tried it?
You only remember that your friends are law students, too, in the most unfortunate of moments when they put their persuasiveness to the test. In the most unfortunate of moments, youâre also reminded of the fact that theyâre college students, too, because theyâre leaving you at the door and rushing off to find something to drink. You werenât upset they dragged you out. Not necessarily. You were grown enough to say no. Perhaps youâd simply set your expectations too high when they begged you to come out and you thought they would spend at least a little bit of time with you before doing their own thing. But sure. Itâs whatever.
So, here you are â standing alone in the corner of a frat party, watching as drunk college students grind against each other, laugh, and have a good time. A part of you feels like youâre missing out, but as you watch somebody throw up into a plant, you feel like youâre just fine where you are.
Youâre drawn from your thoughts when a man wearing a backwards cap suddenly shows up next to you. âYo, you thirsty?â he yells over the music, thrusting a red solo cup into your empty hands. You donât have the time to say anything to him before heâs grinning at you, eyes red and hooded. âCome dance with me. Youâre too pretty to be standinâ here all alone.â
You hear her before you see her.
âSheâs good, bro, trust,â Paige interrupts smoothly, throwing a casual arm around your shoulders. You feel too much like a damsel in distress, but sensing the gravity of the situation, you flash the guy a light smile and lean into Paige slightly. Her grip tightens. You try to not let it bother you.
He raises his hands, surrendering. âMy bad. You got it.â
Paige hums, unconvinced, as he leaves. When heâs out of your sight, you wrench yourself out of her grip. âThank you, but not necessary,â you tell her sharply, red solo cup still in your hand. If this was how your night was going to go, then you need to be a little tipsy to survive it. You barely have it halfway to your mouth before Paige is pulling it out of your grasp, pouring its contents into a potted plant and chucking the cup into a nearby trash can. âWhat the fuââ
âFirst of all,â she begins, arms crossing protectively, ânever accept a drink at a party that you didnât pour, didnât see someone else pour, or a drink thatâs already open; matter fact, donât accept a drink unless you opened it or brought it in yourself.â
You roll your eyes slightly. âThis is Storrs, Paige. Do the frats really get down like that here?â
Her gaze is unimpressed. âYouâre the law student, ma, you tell me the numbers. Second of all, youâre welcome. That was Kylin. He doesnât take no for an answer in the first place but heâs all kinds of fucked up right now. Iâd say I did you a favor but I wanted to talk to you, anyway.â
âFunny,â you deadpan. âHere? Now?â
âWhat are you doing here?â she asks you, ignoring your snippy words. âThought this wasnât your scene.â
You pause. âItâs not,â you confirm. âJos and Chelsea wanted me to come out. Figured I should be a good friend once in a while.â
Paige raises a brow. âJos and Chelsea are too busy playing strip poker with dudes from Kappa Phi to keep an eye on you, and youâre worried about having to be a good friend?â
âFirst of all,â you say in the know-it-all tone that Paige had used on you, âI donât need them to keep an eye on me.â The blonde hums again, not entirely convinced, and the heat of her gaze makes you stumble over your words slightly. âSecond of all, why do you even care?â
âWeâre friends,â she states.
âWe were once,â you correct, voice softening. Itâs no secret that you and Paige had fucked up whatever you had going on. Itâs never been clear whose fault your fallout was (it was yours), nor could the two of you ever agree on what destroyed you (you would argue that you shouldnât hook up with your friends, especially not the ones you were in love with). It was a messy situation that you were sure the two of you couldnât recover from (you didnât want to be friends with someone you couldnât have; Paige just wants you to give her the chance to prove you otherwise).
âSure,â she agrees half-heartedly, knowing your spiel by heart now. âKinda fucked up you think I need a reason to care.â You donât dignify that with a proper response, feeling something strangely like guilt corroding your heart. âCome outside and get some air with me? Please? Just wanna talk, no funny shit, I promise.â
You sigh, feeling yourself fall back into all too familiar routines. You had a near inability to say no to Paige most times â it was the reason why you had to put a stop to your friendship. And here you are now, undoing all of the progress youâve made since youâve been apart (a small part of you knows better; youâre moving forward but youâre not really doing any better. Youâre not progressing. Youâre just stuck now, only this time, you have less than you did before). âJos and Chelseaââ
ââmade their choice,â she finishes for you. âAnd their choice was strip poker with a guy named Anthony,â she adds solemnly. You canât help but quirk a smile at the absurdity of your life right now. âCâmon, please? It fucking reeks in here. Theyâve got a porch swing outside and itâs all quiet and shit.â
âYouâve always had a way with words,â you tease.
âYou cominâ or nah?â she asks, but you shove her forward (she lets you) and she leads you through the crowd to the door. They part like the Red Sea and you canât help but admire the way she silently commands the room, feeling a flutter in your chest you try desperately to stomp out. Itâs like a fire; all it takes is a small spark before it eventually grows out of proportion. You know better now.
The door shuts behind the two of you and you sit on the porch swing. You can still hear the musicâs pounding bass, but itâs muted. You feel like you can hear your thoughts now. The tension in your shoulders eases as you take in the crisp night air, the cricketsâ chirps, the occasional owlâs hoot. For a moment, you forget all of the complicated history between you and Paige; the way she held your hand as she kissed up your thigh, the way she stayed afterwards, cleaning you up and bringing you water. It almost seems as Paige is reliving all of it, too, as she looks at you, and that thought is sobering enough to bring you back to the moment.
You finally get a good look at what sheâs wearing. Itâs nothing outstanding; a gray Nike tech suit and a pair of dunks, although sheâs opted to leave her jacket unzipped, revealing the crop top underneath. Sheâs dressed for comfort, though the most unfair part of it all is how good she looks when sheâs not trying. Her cheekbones are sharp, eyes blue and wide and alert, and you canât help but notice how fitting a slick-back bun is on her.
This was precisely why you needed your space. You couldnât control your thoughts or feelings. It was manageable when you minded your business â the phrase out of sight, out of mind did wonders for you and you were usually busy enough that she only crossed your mind once or twice a week when the student population was buzzing about a recent game. But now? Now youâre fucked. Youâre inches away from her and youâve allowed her to pull you back into her orbit. Sheâs the Earth and youâre a meteor â any closer and you wonât be able to come back from the damage you would do to each other. She would survive, youâre sure, but youâd be destroyed in the process.
âSo,â she says slowly. You avert your eyes, staring at anything but her. âHow you been?â
âGood,â you lie. âKeeping busy.â That part was less of a lie, but it wasnât her business to know.
Paige has always been good at reading you, so she gazes at you like sheâs not convinced. âI think weâre overdue a conversation,â she says, surprising you. âA real one. No more of this running in circles bullshit.â
âOkay,â you agree hesitantly. You finally meet her eyes. Theyâre strikingly blue, disarming, and you feel an odd mixture of guilt and longing eat away at your insides. She looks like sheâs drinking you in, like sheâs trying to understand why you did what you did; her eyes soften in the dim glow of the porchlight and you canât help but flush under her gaze. She always understands you in spite of how often you push her away â she seems to understand why you keep her at armâs length, too, and itâs then that you fully understand how overwhelming it is to be known.
âWhy did you leave?â she asks finally. You have to swallow back the bile in your throat. âThe morning after.â Her clarification does nothing to soothe the turmoil in your stomach. âI thoughtâŠâ Paigeâs throat bobs as she tries to find the words. âIt wasnât a hook up. It meant something to me â everything to me. So why did you leave like that shit ainât matter to you?â
That night in February comes back to you in the blur of a memory. Youâve thought about it so often that you could write a play-by-play of it; every single unremarkable detail comes back to you in a flourish of vibrant color â the way the floor felt beneath your feet as Paige guided you into her room, the slight scratch of her nail against the base of your neck as her hands found purchase in your hair. Paige was wrong. It meant something to you, too much to you. You often remind yourself, if it meant that much, why was it easier to run away? Jumping off of a diving board into a pool conceptually means the same thing as jumping off of a cliffside into beach waves; the jump isnât the hard part, itâs the reminder of the distance between your feet and the surface. Your feelings for Paige are too consuming. Itâs easier to not make the jump at all than it is to worry if youâll be able to come up for air.
She was in high spirits, drunk off of their win against Villanova. They werenât an opponent youâd typically call home for, but the Huskies were having a tough season with several injured players and a lot of underclassmen. It was close, 67-46; Paige had contributed to a little less than half of their points overall with a solid 31. She was happy, the rest of her team was happy, and sheâd begged you to come over to her apartment for the post-game festivities â which was usually games and snacks as they werenât big on drinking during the season. Youâd nearly refused at first. It was supposed to be a small team get-together and you had some work to catch up on. You eventually gave in, like you always do. Paige had flashed her typical, charming smile, looping an arm around your waist, and you were a goner.
The team accepted you like you were one of their own, too. That was new. You didnât spend as much time with them as you did with Jos and Chelsea, but it felt like you knew them better than you knew Jos and Chelsea, anyway. Ice and KK were two menacing peas in a pod â they were like sisters separated at birth and whenever they were together, something chaotic was bound to happen, but they loved and protected fiercely despite the way they teased each other and the team. Caroline was like the team mother and many of the girls called her such. Nika was intense on the court, but off of it, she was Paigeâs twin through and through â they always had something to say to each other and their banter often brought smiles to everyoneâs faces. Azzi was sweet and well-loved by the team (and the student population in general). She introduced you to her and Paigeâs son Ines, which confused you at first, but Paige threw her arm over your shoulder and assured you that theyâre only co-parenting because Carol has enough children and they didnât want Ines to be a ward of the court. You couldnât help but smile at that, leaning into Paige â something about the teamâs dynamic healed you a little, and Ines joked that Paige went out and got her a stepmom.
You felt the blush creep up your neck as Paige tightened her grip around you slightly. âI didnât want you to find out like this, son,â Paige had said somberly, pretending to look sad as Azzi rolled her eyes. âYour mother was havinâ an affairââ
âOh, bullshit!â Azzi cried. The entire room broke out into fits of giggles.
âNow I understand why Paige wifed up a lawyer,â KK said in between laughter. âTryna get a discount on that divorce, huh?â
The team had tears in their eyes from their excitement â you didnât have the heart to tell them you were hoping to specialize in civil litigation, so you just laughed along. The conversation continued to flow as games were played. Nika was exceptionally bad at UNO and Paige never let her hear the end of it. You guys only managed to play a couple of rounds before Nika suddenly got good and played a +4, prompting Ice and KK to stack +4s of their own onto it â Paige stared in disbelief for a solid thirty seconds before picking up 12 cards and rage-quitting one turn later when KK skipped her.
âThere, there,â youâd said, lips trembling as you tried not to laugh at the look on Paigeâs face. You rubbed her shoulder comfortingly, and she pushed you off her gently, her own lips quirking in amusement. âShow this card game whoâs boss.â
âBro,â she grumbled, but she couldnât keep the smile off her face as she leaned back into the couch, her arm finding home over the back of your shoulders once more. You remember wondering if this is what normal felt like, what finally finding a community was like â you fit in too well with Paigeâs teammates and they made you feel at home. Being near Paige made you feel at home. She was talented that way. She had an uncanny ability to make people feel at ease, regaling them with jokes and an endless supply of charm. When you realized you were in love with Paige Bueckers, you werenât surprised about it. If anything, you might have been a little upset with yourself â you were sure you werenât the only person sheâd drawn in unintentionally, ensnared in a web whose latticework was meticulously shaped like basketball netting.
As the night went on, more and more laughs were shared until the clock reached midnight and many of Paigeâs teammates got up to leave. Everyone shared hugs and affectionate goodnights. All of them even looped around to hug you â which was⊠nice. Paige shared her apartment with Azzi and Aubrey, so they retired to their own rooms after curious glances to you and Paige, still curled up together on the couch.
The apartment was quiet. You could hear the ring of silence as it enveloped the two of you, Paigeâs gentle breathing, and the tick of the clock. It was oddly comforting; normally, it would have lulled you into a drowsy state, but you couldnât focus on anything but the heat of Paigeâs body next to yours, the brush of her thumb against your shoulder. Feeling both unmoored and tethered, you shift next to Paige, gathering her attention. âI should go,â youâd whispered. Her thumb halted.
âStay,â she requested. She tilted her head. Her gaze met yours. You expected her eyes to be half-closed, dim with sleep. The rasp of her voice was attributed to a tone you knew sheâd adopt when she was exhausted, but her eyes were wide, alert, dilated, a blue so dark you were sure you almost mistook the sheer want for something else. âStay,â she murmured again. âPlease.â
âYeah,â you agreed almost breathlessly, feeling her hand squeeze your shoulder gently. âSure.â She untangles from you and stands from the couch, offering you her hand, and you take it. She led you seamlessly through the dark of her apartment into her bedroom, where she released you long enough to rifle through her drawers, having found you a pair of shorts and an old t-shirt for you to wear to bed. Paige pointed you towards the bathroom. You changed into her clothes. Your fingers had shook with anticipation at the sheer domesticity of it all as you stared at your reflection in the mirror. Your â her â t-shirt read HOPKINS GIRLS BASKETBALL. It had all felt so different now. You hadnât been sure at the moment if it terrified you or excited you.
You exited the bathroom to find Paigeâs back to you, adjusting the band of a pair of basketball shorts around her hips. Her hair was out of her bun and it cascaded down her back in loose, wavy strands; youâd felt an inexplicable urge to run your fingers through it, to find out if her hair was as soft as it looked. She was wearing a dark black sports bra. The two of you were friends. Granted, you were in love with her, but the sight of her wearing nothing but ball shorts and her Nike bra shouldnât have done the things it did to you.
âWhich side is yours?â youâd asked, mostly to break the silence. You ignored the crack in your voice. Paige paid it no mind as she turned, which forced you to avert your eyes, trying not to glance at her abdominals.
âDonât matter,â she responded. You watched the way she moved, sitting low on the bed, legs long and stark against the purple of her comfort. âYou gettinâ in or what?â You hoped she couldnât see the flush on your neck. You slid into bed next to her, hoping to maintain some sort of distance, but she refused to let you get too far. She slung her arm over your waist, fingers brushing against your skin where your shirt rode up. Her breath was even against your neck and the heat of her body nearly turned your brain into mush. âThis okay?â she asked, tone softer.
âMhm,â you hummed, afraid to speak or you might fuck up and tell her just how okay it actually was. Paige was just a touchy person, you tried to remind yourself as you felt the tickle of her hair against the nape of your neck. This doesnât mean anything to her. It was all for naught. It did little to quell the way your heart raced, the way the heat pooled low in your belly.
âYou looked good tonight,â she said casually. You tried to stop the goosebumps as they rose on your flesh. âYou always do.â
Unable to think of something smart to say, you shifted your body slightly, your fingers splaying over the arm she held tight around your midsection. âOh, yeah?â Her fingers brushed a little lower on your stomach, grazing the waistband of your shorts.
She hummed an affirmative, pulling you tighter against herself, and you could barely breathe. It was overwhelming in the best way â she was all around you. Physically, you felt as though you were in her skin as she greedily pulled you in. The scent of her was everywhere; the shampoo that seeped into her pillows, the cologne on her neck. Your hair stood on end as her lips brushed almost imperceptibly against the shell of your ear. ââM glad you came tonight,â she whispered.
You flipped on your side, face-to-face with Paige. Her arm moved enough for you to get situated and once you were, her hand found the small of your back, her palm warm against your skin. You canât help the way your breath hitched, even as Paigeâs eyes seemed to take in the stuttering rise and fall of your chest. Having found some courage, you poked her cheek, drawing her eyes back up to yours. âWhat are we doing?â you asked finally, feeling uncomfortably vulnerable. Her brow raised slightly, the dark blue of her gaze illuminated by the streaks of moonlight through her window. âNo funny shit, Paige. You touch me like you want me, claim me in front of your friends.â You searched her eyes as she fell silent. âWhat are we doing?â you repeated, voice firmer.
âI want you,â she confessed after a few heartbeats of contemplation. She leaned in closer to you, your noses nearly brushing, and she continued, âI want you so fucking bad. Donât wanna do anything youâont want, butââ
Your lips were on hers before she had the chance to finish. She responded eagerly, one hand firm around your waist as she flipped the both of you over, pulling you to straddle her waist. You leaned down, your chest against hers, hands on each side of her neck. You felt the thundering of her pulse under your fingers. It was stabilizing in a sense â words were one thing, but to feel how badly youâd been able to affect her, too, did wonders for your growing ego. Paigeâs hands had found your hips, keeping you pressed against her body.
You parted briefly to catch your breath. Paigeâs chest heaved, her lips shiny and swollen. She was hard to look away from. For a moment, youâd wondered if this was worth it. Your heart had raced, beating uncontrollably; it felt like too much and not enough at the same time. Everything would change between the two of you. Was one night with Paige worth the risk of losing your friendship? You feel too strongly, too much, overwhelmingly. Youâve been told by an ex or two that you were simply too much. You wouldnât want to subject Paige to that.
Her right hand met your face, tracing the line of your bottom lip. âYou want this?â she asked. Her eyes were blown wide, more pupil than iris, but something about it entranced you. The desire in her eyes had brought fresh heat to your stomach, but coupled with the fact sheâd be willing to stop made your heart beat a little faster. She was enough to quell your worries, settling the irregularity of your thoughts. You nodded, leaning down to connect your lips again, but her hand was insistent against your jaw as she held you back. âWords,â she commanded.
Youâd barely resisted an eyeroll. âYes, Paige,â you affirmed. Her hand loosened, eyes searching yours. âWant you.â
Her smile turned smug. âYeah? How bad?â
The tease sent white-hot desire straight through your body as your hips rolled against hers, trying to find some relief. Her hands fall back down to your waist, helping you rut against her thigh as a shared flush creeped up both of your necks. âYou gonna touch me?â you breathed against her lips. Her breath came out a disjointed stutter when you guided her hand to the swell of your ass. It was unnatural â Paige was so sure, so confident. To have her nearly at your mercy was like a drug through your veins, but you didnât want her there. You wanted Paige fully in control; you wanted her to take care of you, to give you everything youâd fantasized about for months on end. You wanted her so bad it rewired the coding in your brain. There was something about her that broke down all of the walls you spent years building.
Your actions and words had been the only permission she needed. One of her hands gripped the flesh of your ass as the other one cupped the back of your neck. Her nail scratched you inadvertently as she dragged you back down to connect your lips â the slight echo of pain caused you to whine against her lips, a sound she swallowed greedily before she flipped the two of you over once more. Your head fell back against her pillows as she rucked up your shirt, finding that youâd opted to not wear a bra. She groaned indulgently, one large hand coming up to squeeze one of your breasts and her mouth finding the other one.
You ran your fingers through her hair, gripping it tight as she lavished you with attention. âSo fuckinâ pretty,â she murmured against you, voice dripping with want. She pressed her knee against your core as she found her way back to your lips, kissing you deeply and drawing another whimper from your parted lips. It sent a jolt through your body. âYou gonâ let me do what I want, huh? Get you right?â
âPaige, please,â you begged, all of the shame having left your body as you ground down against her knee, feeling the pleasure and relief simultaneously. âFuck, do what you want, I donât care â just please fucking touch me.â
She shushed you, lips back on yours, tongue brushing against your lips like she was trying to take whatever youâd give her. And at that point, you would have given her anything if it meant sheâd stop teasing you. âI got you, ma, jusâ relax,â she whispered against your lips. She trailed a blazing path down your chest, leaving hickies as she went. Paige reached the waistband of your shorts; she pressed a sloppy kiss to your navel before bunching her fingers in and pulling them off, throwing them haphazardly into the room.
The air was cold against you. You were breathing heavily by then, eyes squeezed shut in anticipation. Her hand untwisted yours from the bedsheets, linking your fingers together, and that touch alone was enough to bring you back down to earth. âI got you,â she promised again, reminding you, pressing diligent kisses against the inside of your thigh. You relaxed ever so slightly against her, feeling as though you could breathe a little easier, but your body was still incredibly high strung. Paige squeezed your hand. Then her mouth was on you, and you were done for.
She held your hand as she went down on you, talking you through it until your orgasm reached its peak and you sunk into the bed bonelessly. She didnât release you when she came back up, her smile a mix of smugness, pride, and quiet adoration. Paige kissed your knuckles, your cheeks, your lips, drawing a contented sigh out of you. âYou good?â she asked, brushing your hair out of your eyes, hand cradling your jaw.
Exhausted, all you could do was hum an affirmative. Paige flashed a small smile again, pressing a kiss to your forehead and crawling off the bed, much to your surprise. âLemme get you some water,â she said. ââM coming right back, I promise.â
You nodded wordlessly, closing your eyes and sinking back into the pillows as your breathing evens out. She left her room, the door shutting with a silent click. In the silence of Paigeâs bedroom, curled up in her purple comforter, all you can think about is how the future of your friendship has inexplicably changed forever. She said she wanted you. Did she just mean sexually? Paige was always intentional in her communication, a byproduct of her media training. Tears brimmed your eyes when you considered the idea that you might have just been another Wednesday night fling for her. Here you are again, feeling stupid about the overwhelming feelings you harbored for Paige despite your better judgment. The worst part was that it wasnât her fault. You got your hopes up.
You wiped your eyes when you heard the door open again. Paige crossed the room, cracking open a cold bottle of water for you and pressing it to your lips. You nearly forgot about your inner turmoil when she smiled at you again, having thrown her hair back up into its bun. âGonna clean you up, okay?â she informed you. At your nod, she runs a warm washcloth between your thighs, getting rid of the lingering stickiness. She carefully redressed you, squeezing your hips gently, and youâre left feeling so incredibly conflicted that youâre breathless with the anxiety. Paige disposed of the washcloth and curled up next to you in bed once more, an arm wrapping around your midsection. Youâd told each other goodnight, but as her breath evens out against your neck, your mind races.
You slept fitfully through the night. And when morning light rolled around, you extracted yourself from Paigeâs grip, sliding a pillow into her arms. The nervousness and all of your overthinking thoughts made you queasy with grief. You were in love with Paige Bueckers. That much was true. You were too head over heels for her to return to normalcy; you couldnât. At that point, it would be easier for you to not be friends with her at all than to pretend like she wasnât everything youâd ever wanted.
As she slept, you casted one last guilty look over your shoulder and you ran.
But that night in February has long since passed, and on the porch swing on a much warmer night in April, Paige stares at you in desperation, seeking answers to the questions youâve withheld for over a month. âWhy did you leave?â she asks you again. âFuck, tell me the truth, lie to me, whatever, just please give me something to work with.â
âIt was overwhelming,â you finally admit, twisting the rings on your fingers. You feel terrible as you glance at Paige, whose eyes soften when she takes in your expression.
âIâm sorry,â she says. âI shoulda seen that something was wrong.â
You close your eyes, lips trembling. Youâre touched at how she instantly takes responsibility for your fuck ups, thinking sheâs done something wrong. âNo, Paige,â you correct her. âFuck. It wasnât you. It was never you.â You pick at a loose string on your shorts. She stares at you, waiting for you to continue. âYou were so gentle. That night meant everything to me, and that was the problem. I wanted you so bad â Jesus Christ, I was in love with you for months. I donât do casual. I always feel too strongly and I loved you so much that it was fucking overwhelming. I woke up and nearly lost it because I couldnât handle the idea of having you like that and having to pretend like I didnât want you like that forever. It was so much easier to run and not face the possibility of having to be your friend when all Iâve wanted was more.â
When you finally look back to Paige, her eyes are wide with something that looks strangely like grief, like youâve pulled the rug from under her feet and watched as she fell. As you think about it, thatâs probably what youâve done, anyway. She spent so long thinking that your fallout was her fault, that it was something sheâd done, but the ugly truth of the matter was that you were too scared of the way you felt for her that you ran from it instead. Paige runs a frustrated hand over her jaw, her expression nearly unreadable. You frown. âIâm sorry,â you say quietly, knowing that your apology is long overdue. You fucked up so incredibly bad with her. Your brain remembers her prior words, the âIt wasnât a hook up. It meant something to me â everything to me,â and you suddenly feel like an idiot. God, it was mutual this entire time and you were too caught up in yourself to realize it.
âYou think too fucking much,â Paige says finally, and you hardly have the time to react before sheâs kissing you, her hands gripping your hips. You nearly gasp against her lips before you fully register whatâs happening. Sinking into it, you wrap your arms around her neck, feeling suddenly like everything is finally aligning, that all of your blurred focal points sharpen. When she pulls away, her eyes are alight with understanding. âSo, lemme get this straight. You pushed me away âcause youâre in love with me, then we fucked, and you thought I wouldnât wife you up?â
You frown, feeling stupid all over again. âWell, when you put it like thatâŠyeah?â
Paige sighs. âFuck. Look at my lawyer â youâd send dudes to jail left and fucking right âcause you jump to conclusions too early. Thank God youâre not going into criminal defense.â
You shove her away from you, feeling the embarrassment bloom on your cheeks. You canât help but laugh as you say, âYouâre an asshole.â
She guffaws, reaching for your hands, intertwining your fingers. âSays you! You ghosted me for a month and let me think I fucked us up. Jesus Christ.â She twists the ring on your finger mindlessly as she searches for the right words. âOkay, lemme be really fucking clear. Iâm in love with you, too. Like, Iâm fuckinâ crazy about you. There is nobody but you. You arenât too much for me â I love you for you, no ifs, ands, buts, whys, hows, nothing. I know you thought you were protecting us by pushinâ me away, but you gotta let me make that choice, too. I want this with you, alright? Will you gimme that chance?â
Her words leave the two of you in silence. You can still hear the chirp of the crickets, the thrumming from the party indoors. You can feel the way her thumb brushes over your knuckles, the way her eyes bore into yours, patiently waiting for your decision. But distinctly, you can see the plea, the desperation for you to just give into what she knows the both of you are feeling. Your anxiety and constant overthinking never ruined the two of you. It may have set you back, but you and Paige found your way back to each other. Maybe youâre not a meteor, dangerously crashing into her and disintegrating on impact. Maybe the two of you are something simpler â the moon and the tide. She was never going to let you get hurt if only youâd give her the opportunity to show you that.
So, you take that leap â whether itâs off the diving board into the pool or the cliffside into beach waves, you donât care. You know now that Paige is waiting for you at the surface. âI want this, too,â you affirm, watching the smile bloom on her face like springtime flowers, and you seal the deal by pressing your lips to hers. She responds eagerly, her arms tight around you. You loathe that it took the two of you this long, that it was your fault for not trusting Paige with your heart when sheâs given you no real reason to doubt her; despite this, her lips taste like forgiveness and yours like atonement. In spite of everything, you made it here in the end, and it was worth it.

Harry twirls a lock of dark curls between his fingers. Tips his chin against Tommy's head and stares up at the ceiling. He considers not asking, this time.
The sex is good, and Tommy's funny, and if he closes his eyes he could imagine there could be something - Tommy twitches and shifts his hand lower like he might be gearing up for another round, and it breaks the fantasy. That's new.
"Tell me about him," Harry says, and Tommy's eyes tip up to glare at Harry.
"Making an assumption, there," Tommy warns, but Harry just raises an eyebrow. Six years of this and Harry knows better than to expect Tommy would show up at his door for any reason other than to get his mind off of something - someone else.
"So we're both asses," Harry intones. He needs to call the super, see what they'll do about the water stain on his ceiling. "Tell me about him."
Tommy sighs. Twists, drifts away to the second pillow, and Harry's done this enough times not to mourn the loss, exactly. It's not like he's ever told Tommy -
"He's too young. Impulsive. New."
Harry fails to hold in his snort. "Okay."
Tommy at 34 had been a fucking hurricane. Newly out, no holds barred, he'd jumped right into the deep end and let the storm whirl him around. They'd been friends, for the first six months, Harry a watchful presence while Tommy made it his mission to be more than the guy in the dark corner getting a risky blowie fifteen minutes before last call. To be out - not loud, that wasn't Tommy's style - but to at least be himself.
He'd lasted two months in a real, actual relationship before he'd shown up at Harry's door with a six pack and a box of condoms.
"He looks at me and sees this - cool suave guy -" Harry shifts, nearly interrupts because that guy is exactly what Tommy projects, even if he doesn't mean to. Fucking Scorpios. "- and I was falling for him."
Yeah. Harry can extrapolate from that. Tommy fell ass over tea kettle and then got spooked.
"He's just so fucking open with himself. No brainworm goes untouched, and he can't hide his emotions for shit, and he's so goddamn stubborn and so goddamn ready to bulldoze through every hurdle ahead without looking back at the damage, and..." Tommy trails off. One hand shifts down to hitch the duvet up over his hips, and Harry adds the duvet cover to his list of laundry. "I gave him too many chances to slow down on his own."
"What, did the kid ask you to marry him or something?"
"He's the Himbo," Tommy retorts, and it takes Harry a moment to make the connection. He whistles through his teeth just to watch the scowl fall into place on Tommy's face. "And the connection freaked him out so much he asked me to move in. To his bachelor pad loft." Harry waits. "It has two balconies, Harry. Two."
"...he knows you have a mortgage, right?"
Tommy shoves at his shoulder. "It doesn't matter. We're just - the timing wasn't right."
"Did you want it to be?"
That's always the thing he ends up hung up on, in Harry's experience. Tommy's scared out of his mind to be the right person at the wrong time. Always has been. There's probably some mommy or daddy issues hidden in there somewhere he hasn't explored. Tommy's eyes drift up to the water stain. "Don't these apartments all have the same layout?"
This is the shove-off. This is his hint not to push. "Yes, and I really don't want to ask how the upstairs neighbor flooded their bedroom. Back to the guy." He's never been one for acknowledging unspoken cues.
"Buck," Tommy says, and the name sounds harsh in his mouth.
"Buck," Harry repeats, and pictures Tommy's usual type - tall, light-eyed, more smiles than common sense. There was always something distinctive, too - freckles, a scar, weird shaped ears.
"I miss him."
It doesn't hurt the way it had those first few years, when Harry was convinced that eventually Tommy would see him as more than a friend to blow off steam with. Still. There's a twinge there, beneath his rib cage.
"So stop missing him. That's an option, isn't it?"
And Tommy does that thing - that frustrating, enchanting thing, where his whole body seems to hold the emotion flickering across his face. "I walked out on him. I dug the damn knife in just to make sure he wouldn't try to convince me to stay."
"Would you have? Stayed?"
Tommy's quiet. The sweat has cooled on his skin, and the lights coming in through his window dance across the skin of his shoulder, his chest, that stupid thick neck of his.
The phone he left on the bedside table is dark, but that doesn't stop Tommy's gaze flicking to it.
"Cards on the table, Tommy?" Harry sucks in a breath. Blows it out through his nose. "Once upon a time, I convinced myself you were it for me. That I'd be satisfied with what you gave me, and I wouldn't ask for more. I cut you out of my life for eight months when I realized how fucking dumb that was."
Tommy frowns. Harry hadn't really ever expected him to notice.
"I've seen you through shitty relationships, and one sided ones. I've heard all the bullshit you and Greg put each other through. I've been there for every fucking heartache."
And he'd offered up his body like it was absolution for always being fucking thrilled when a relationship ended.
"You called me Evan," Harry murmurs, and Tommy's eyes go wide. That's never fucking happened before. This thing wouldn't have lasted nearly as long if he'd ever heard another man's name in his bed before. "You should shower. Go home. Take a day or two, if you need it. But I know for a fact you wait this shit out, justify coming to me with time and space from whatever guy has you strung out. I know it's been a minute already, and I know you've never sounded so unsure about cutting someone loose."
Tommy's gaze flicks to him.
"Whatever it is that's got you so scared of this guy, figure it the fuck out. Because it sounds to me like you fell fast and hard and hit a fucking wall before you ever thought to tap the brakes. That's not fair to you or him. Call him. Text him. Show up at his door with a bouquet or an industrial size bottle of lube and figure your shit out. Together."
Tommy stares at him for a long, long time in silence.
"Them's the brakes, huh?"
Harry hates that he knows exactly what Tommy means. Still, he clarifies. "This is your forever guy." Six years of watching him flail and learn and grow and hurt and love and fuck. He knows a thing or two about Tommy and his flights of romance. Knows this lonely man has never sounded quite so lonely before. "You don't need me, anymore."
He's quiet as his eyes drift back up to the stain. "I'm not his forever guy." Harry can't actually refute that, considering he's never met the guy. But he knows Tommy. Knows exactly how captivating he can be. Knows Tommy's a sucker for that starry-eyed look that so often has meant not love, as Tommy reads it, but idolization. "What if I'm not his forever guy?"
Harry digs toes into the spot in the duvet where Tommy's knees should be. He shifts Tommy about half a millimeter. "He has a nickname you don't call him except when you're punishing yourself. He dated Abby and that shared history didn't scare him off. You'd never let yourself fall for a guy that wasn't throwing clear signs that it was serious. I'd put my odds on him doing something weird and wholesome every time he thinks about you until his entire two balcony loft is filled with trinkets or treats and he still can't get you off his mind."
Harry's never seen Tommy's face do that before. Not in the throes of a honeymoon phase and not in the worst of a bad breakup. It's some awful mixture between unbridled hope and abject despair.
Harry thinks it's probably fair to hate him a little, for that face. He's earned the right.
"If he kicks you to the curb, I'll take you to one of those expensive wine tastings you pretend to hate, and I'll let you drink all my samples too." It's not an idle promise. Tommy may pretend to hate it but Harry fucking loves wine tastings. "If he doesn't..." Harry shoots him a fond look, "...knowing your type I'm not invited to the wedding anyway, so I guess then I'd been seeing you around."
Something shadows his gaze for a moment, but he's quick to hide it, to smack Harry on the chest like they've just had a good game, to shift out of bed and into his briefs before Harry can blink. He doesn't love Tommy. Not the way he'd have liked to, years and years ago. Still, when Tommy shoots him the dorkiest finger guns known to man and scoops up the rest of his clothes to take to the bathroom with him, Harry still wonders what it's like to have him enough to love him fully.
---
The name catches him off guard every time he hears it. 'Evan' isn't hard to filter - Evan had been a popular enough name to immediately write it off but Buck wasn't white noise of a name
Buck was a character in a movie, an old grizzled war vet, a dog. The name Buck wasn't popular enough not to hear it every time it was so much as whispered in his direction.
The coffee shop isn't crowded, but it's not dead either. When the girl at the counter calls out an order for Buck, sliding three cups down the counter, Harry can't help but look up.
A tall broad shouldered hulk of a man smiles a dimpled smile at the barista, and Harry watches him palm two cups and grab the third one in one practiced move. He's cute, Harry thinks. Maybe his grandpa ordered, Harry thinks, a little harder, and then caves, following his path through the three-tops littering the lobby.
Harry catches sight of him without being noticed. He's grinning, one of those rare earnest ones that make his ears rise and his face crinkle like a Shar Pei, hand spread out over something lying open on the table. The little girl on the seat to his right is a surprise, but Harry hasn't spoken to Tommy in two years. Maybe he's had enough time to get his mind around the idea that he's nothing like his father. The girl responds to something Tommy says by palming at as much of his face as she can reach and turning to the man now approaching their table.
"Uncle Buck!" he catches, another firm tug at the part of his brain that's been stuck on this for too long. The man barely gets all three drinks on the table before the girl is launching herself up into his arms, and it's too late for Harry to turn away without notice. Tommy's gaze shifts across the room and lands right on him.
He looks like he might wave Harry over, and Harry would rather die than know whether Tommy would introduce him as an old friend, or by name like Buck should know it. He tips a smile Tommy's way. Raises a brow at the man - Buck - and gets lips being sucked behind teeth in response, and then a slow, subtle head tilt.
Good. Good for him. Harry's never wanted anything for Tommy but to see him incandescently happy.
Witnessing it from a distance is better.
Buck twirls his - niece? - flops her back down on the bench seat next to Tommy and bends to say something that includes a pinky promise. He's got a wine-dark stain just above his brow, and Harry can't quite hide the tip of his smile.
Harry's name rings in his ears as he picks up his drink, and he's halfway to the door, feeling proud of himself for not turning back, when he hears the chorus of three laughs erupting from the corner where he'd taken his last good look.
He'd seen the ring on insta, a week and a half ago. Just an uncaptioned picture of two bands balanced one over the other on a rock, a killer sunset sky blurry behind them. No tags. 102 likes and counting.
Harry pushes through the doors and only glances through the window to watch Tommy tip his head back in laughter for a second, before he's cleared the coffee shop and rounded the corner back to his office.

CINDERELLAâââJOE BURROW
request: "Reader is going out with girlies and dressed sexy that joe almost got mad at reader cuz he doesnât want reader going out with that dress and suddenly obsessed with boobies and told reader they cant breath in that dress" for @crispppykreme
The dress wasnât new, but it might as well have been, given how long it had languished at the back of your closet. A slinky little thing, sleek black with a neckline that danced on the edge of scandal and just enough shimmer to catch the light in all the right places. It was the kind of dress that didnât just suggest confidenceâit demanded it.
You were proud of how you looked, admiring yourself in the full-length mirror, twisting slightly to check every angle. The effort had paid off: hair done, makeup sharp, heels that made your legs look miles long. Tonight was about the girlies, a rare night out that wasnât dinner and wine but cocktails and dancing, the kind of carefree, late-night escapades you hadnât had in months.
Joe had been fine about it earlier, or at least you thought he had. There was an absentminded âHave fun, baby,â thrown your way when youâd mentioned your plans this morning. But now, as his eyes scanned you from head to toe like he was taking inventory, you could feel the tension radiating off him from across the room.
âYouâre really wearing that?â His voice wasnât loud, but it carried an edge that made you freeze mid-reach for your clutch. You turned slowly, eyebrow raised, trying to read the expression on his face.
âUh, yeah? Whatâs wrong with it?â You kept your tone light, playful, even though the way he was looking at you made your skin prickle. Joe wasnât one to throw around his opinions about your outfits, and honestly, you appreciated that about him. He knew you had your own style, your own vibe. But tonight? Something about tonight had apparently made him forget that.
He stepped closer, his hand running down his face as he let out a slow, deliberate sigh. âItâs not that itâs bad. Itâs justâŠâ His gaze dropped to your chest, and he gestured vaguely in that direction. âThat dress. I mean, are you sure itâs comfortable? Theyâuh, youâdonât look like you can even breathe in it.â
For a second, you just blinked at him, your brain scrambling to catch up. Then it hit you, and the corner of your mouth twitched despite yourself.
âOh,â you said, the teasing lilt unmistakable. âThatâs what this is about.â
Joe crossed his arms, clearly trying to play it cool, but the flush creeping up his neck betrayed him. âIâm just saying. Itâs kind of⊠tight, donât you think?â
You couldn't stop the grin spreading across your face, even as Joe triedâand failedâto keep his cool. He was too easy to read, the faint crease between his brows giving him away completely.
âOh, come on,â you teased, grabbing your clutch and turning back toward the mirror. âYouâve seen me wear tighter.â
âThatâs not the point,â he shot back, his voice firmer now, enough to make you glance at him in the mirror. He was standing with his arms crossed, leaning against the doorframe like some kind of judgmental Greek statue, all broad shoulders and furrowed brows.
âThen what is the point, Joe?â you asked, raising an eyebrow. âBecause Iâm getting the vibe that itâs not about how tight this dress is.â
He huffed, running a hand through his hair in that way he always did when he was trying to sort through his words. âThe point is,â he said slowly, âyouâre going out looking like⊠like that. And I know exactly how guys are gonna act when they see you.â
You turned around now, giving him your full attention. âGuys? Plural? Is that what this is about?â
âItâs not about guys,â he said quickly, but the words came out too rushed, too defensive. He shifted his weight, unfolding his arms, clearly trying to walk the line between annoyed and reasonable. âItâs about⊠I donât know. I just donât want anyone thinking they can look at you like that.â
âLike what?â you asked, stepping closer, biting back a laugh as you pressed your palm to his chest. His heartbeat thumped steadily beneath your hand, but you could feel the tension in him.
âLike⊠like youâre up for grabs or something.â His jaw clenched, and his eyes darted away from yours, like saying it out loud embarrassed him.
You blinked, genuinely taken aback for a moment. âJoey,â you said, softening your tone, âyou realize thatâs not how this works, right? Just because I look good doesnât mean Iâm inviting attention. And even if someone does lookâso what? Iâm coming home to you.â
His eyes flicked back to yours at that, softening slightly, but his lips pressed into a stubborn line. âYeah, but youâre mine,â he muttered, the words barely audible but so pointed they hung heavy in the air.
You couldnât help itâyou burst out laughing. âYours?â you repeated, shaking your head in disbelief. âWhat, are you going to put a sticker on me that says âProperty of Joe Burrowâ?â
He groaned, his hand raking through his hair again. âYou know thatâs not what I mean.â
âDo I?â you shot back, a playful smirk tugging at your lips. âBecause it kinda sounds like youâre saying I canât wear what I want unless it gets your approval.â
âThatâs not what Iâm saying at all!â he said quickly, but the way his ears were turning pink made you think he was second-guessing himself.
âThen what?â you asked, crossing your arms now, mirroring his earlier stance. âBecause, if you think Iâm changing out of this dress just because it makes you nervous, youâve got another thing coming.â
He stared at you for a moment, his jaw working, clearly torn between frustration and surrender. âItâs not nervous,â he mumbled finally. âItâs just⊠look, youâre too damn sexy, okay? There. I said it. And I'm not there to make sure nobody thinks they can have you.â
You raised an eyebrow, your grin growing wider. âOhhh, I see,â you said, dragging out the words. âSo, this isnât about the dress at all. Itâs about you being jealous.â
His face scrunched like he wanted to deny it, but the words caught in his throat. Instead, he settled for muttering, âIâm not jealous.â
âRight,â you said, stepping closer to him again. âBecause youâre totally fine with me going out looking like a âdamn goddess,â as Iâm sure some guy at the bar is going to say.â
Joe groaned again, tipping his head back against the doorframe. âDo you have to do this?â
âYes,â you said brightly, standing on your toes to press a kiss to his cheek. âBecause itâs fun watching you squirm.â
He sighed, his hands finally coming to rest on your hips, pulling you in closer. âIâm serious, though,â he said, his voice lower now, quieter. âYou look amazing. Too amazing. And I trust youâI doâbut that doesnât mean I trust every drunk guy whoâs gonna see you tonight.â
âI can handle drunk guys,â you said softly, wrapping your arms around his neck. âAnd besides, you know Iâd never let anyone get too close.â
âI know,â he admitted, resting his forehead against yours. âI just hate the idea of someone thinking they even have a chance.â
âWell, they donât,â you said simply, smiling up at him. âYouâre the only one who gets to peel me out of this dress later.â
His lips twitched into a smirk at that, and you could feel some of the tension leaving his shoulders. âYeah, youâre damn right I am.â
You grinned, giving him another quick peck on the lips before stepping back. âNow, are you done being dramatic, or do I need to remind you that this is my night out?â
He sighed, letting his arms drop but not stepping back. âFine,â he said, though his tone still had a hint of reluctance. âBut if youâre not home by midnight, Iâm calling.â
You laughed, grabbing your Chanel clutch and heading for the door. âSure, Cinderella. Whatever you say.â

Wanting for More (Ekko x gn!reader)
Warnings: None
Genre: Fluff
Fandom: Arcane
Summary: Ekko sees you asleep and covers you with a blanket
Word count: 767
âąâąâą
You both had lost track of time, that was obvious. You two had been working on something in Ekko's workplace for a few hours, and a while ago you decided to take a break and lie down for a bit.
He'd been really concentrated in his work, but he suddenly realized he hadn't heard you in a while, so he decided to take a look at you, only to find out you'd fallen asleep. He couldn't help but smile at the sight of you, looking so peaceful and dreamy. This wasn't the first time Ekko got lost in his thoughts while staring at you, it was quite common actually, or it had been lately at least.
There was something more than just friendship between you two, you both knew that. But neither of you had the courage to do something about it, and both of you were scared, too. It seemed easier to not act on your feelings and just enjoy the relationship you already had, but the wanting for more was starting to be unbearable for him. He wanted you to be his, as much as he wanted to be yours.
No one understood him like you did, and no one supported him and trusted him like you did. You two had known each other for years now, since you were one of the first ones to join the Firelights, and from that day his life was never the same again. Ekko was genuinely happy when you were around, he saw hope in you, maybe even a future together. When you two were together, he wasn't the Firelights' leader, he was just Ekko, he could relax around you. In a world like yours, having someone like that was a privilege.
He got out of his thoughts when he realized you were curled up into a ball, clearly cold. He quickly got up and looked for a blanket, and when he found it he covered you with it. He got down to your level, next to the bed, and put a strand of hair behind your ear, putting it away from your face and leaving his hand on your shoulder. He smiled again, feeling grateful for having you in his life and being able to share these little moments.
You got a bit startled by his touch and slowly opened your eyes, seeing Ekko at eye level with you.
"Hey," you said in almost a whisper, and he replied with a shy smile. "How long have I been asleep?"
"I have no idea, I just found you a couple minutes ago", he replied, while caressing your shoulder a bit.
You still felt sleepy, but you could see how tired he was, his eyes could never lie, and definitely not to you.
"You should get some sleep, Ekko", you told him. "Here, I'll move so you can fit in here." You did as you said, leaving space for him to hop on the bed and lie down next to you. This wasn't uncommon between the two of you, but lately the tension in these moments had become obvious, even if you tried to ignore it. Still, you were so tired you didn't really care right now, you just wanted to go back to sleep.
"I should keep working."
"Just shut up and come here, working can wait." He was a very self-demanding person, but he knew you were right, so he took off his shoes and did as you said.
You ended up being face to face, and you could feel your heart beating really fast, like it was gonna explode. You closed your eyes and you rested your head on his shoulder. "Thank you for the blanket", you murmured, loud enough for him to hear.
"Anytime", he answered, wrapping his arm around you.
You closed your eyes and enjoyed his warmth and his touch, wishing you could stay like this forever. It didn't take long for you to fall asleep again, and he could tell from the way you were breathing. He gave you a little kiss on the forehead, savouring every second with you in his arms.
"You mean the world to me", he whispered. He imagined sleeping like this every night and couldn't help but smile. He knew life was hard and that the world was dangerous, but he also knew he couldn't live in fear and put a stop to his own life just to help and save others. He knew he had to tell you how he felt, and find a bit of hope with you amongst all the chaos that surrounded you.

One thing that I seen Stampede Wolfwood often characterized as by folks is well... distant is probably the best word for it. Mopey. Averse. The sort of guy who you wouldn't catch asking for a hug on the worst day of his life.
But I don't think that's true. Or at least, not beyond being a front he puts up. And there's one scene that for me confirms it. Because when Vash gets shot in Julai, Wolfwood's first response isn't to attack back.
It's to run over, put an arm out for support, and check in on him. Only when Vash shows himself to be okay do we see Wolfwood tell these people to back the fuck off.
You could read motivation into this act of comfort. There's fuel here for shipping, or perhaps Wolfwood is that terrified of his boss's mark getting injured. But it does also pair nicely with another scene not a few minutes later.
"My body moves before I can think."
In the split second before someone gets hurt, Vash isn't considering whether or not he should help them. He just does. The desire to protect is something so deeply ingrained in his core that it has become pure instinct.
And I think it's the same with Wolfwood. The moment that he takes to put up that shield of unbothered-ness is a moment too late. Big brother Nico has already taken action.
And even when he's just messing around, for someone who is meant to be cold and uncaring, Wolfwood's suspiciously handsy. This scene between him and Meryl would not have the same affectionate 'bickering siblings' vibe if he didn't insist on throwing his arm around her.
He's trying to mask it here by being annoying, but there's affection here. Not just emotionally, but through physical touch. Proximity too - guy's not adverse to getting up in people's faces to nick (ha) stuff.
And even at his most hostile and snappy, well, there's no strict reason why he has to get so close to Vash and grab him by the shirt like this:
But is it really a surprise that Wolfwood's like this? After all, the flashback with Livio shows that he was absolutely an affectionate and caring kid, even if edgy-teenager logic would have it utterly mortifying to admit out loud. The Eye of Michael can try to beat it out of him all they want, but a desire for closeness isn't something you can just remove from someone. It may end up muted, sure, but deep down it will always still be there.
TL;DR Wolfwood is absolutely secretly the biggest cuddlebug on this godforsaken planet and you can't convince me otherwise.
#trigun#trigun meta#trigun stampede#surprise! I'm back on my bullshit!#I need a dozen images of this man getting physical affection STAT

Iâve been obsessed with Jackie/your Jackie fics and thoughts lately.
This with Jackie in the wilderness though..? Maybe an AU where she never died and find excuses to keep you âwarm at nightâ in winter? Youâre in the farthest corner of the cabin when she starts grinding against you softly. The others are asleep but you still have to be quiet, silently sighing into the otherâs mouth as you get each other offâŠ
-đȘ©
thank you đȘ© anon!! i probably added way too much background lore, but i hope this is what you had in mind <3 nsfw below so: mdni!
i feel like, unlike shauna, jackie would not be so in denial about how touch starved she is. i think sheâs well aware that she needs somebodyâs comfort, yet ever since doomcoming, she and shauna have not spoken properly and she wonât even look in travisâ direction.
it wasnât just the betrayal itself, you think, without ever saying it out loud, it was the audacity of it. now, every time jackie glanced at shauna, all she could see was the life she used to have, the life she had taken away piece by piece: her boyfriend, her best friend, her sense of control. nobody is ever calling it by name in spite of the elephant (shaunaâs bump) in the room.
jackie hadnât acknowledged the pregnancy out loud, yet the unspoken tension hangs in the air whenever they are forced to share space, impacting all of you.
the more time passes, the colder everyone gets.
except for tai and van, the rest of the team has sort of neglected the need for physical touch and closeness. without anyone around that youâd be comfortable enough with to ask for a simple hug, you try to do the same as everyone else. only at night, with the others fast asleep, you ever dare to wrap your arms around yourself, picturing itâs someone else holding you.
you wonât let it show to the others, though, not wanting to be the first to break under the current circumstances.
turns out you donât have to wait too long for someone else to be in a similar position: jackie had been the one to lose it from the start. sure, youâd all been terrified, but out of all the girls, jackie had been the most stubborn when it came to her chores out here.
sheâd always been the one least likely to adapt to any of this: to the wilderness, to the cold, to the isolation that gnawed at all of you. she wasnât built for this life, and everyone knew it, including her. but jackie wasnât one to let people see her break easily: the same jackie who once thrived on attention now barely spoke, her haughty attitude replaced by something more brittle.
it had only been a matter of time before this facade cracked.
youâd seen her unraveling slowly. the way she avoided shauna, the way she avoided everyone, really. how she snapped at taissa for trying to delegate chores or rolled her eyes at natâs attempts to hunt. sheâs so desperate to seem untouchable, but it is clear to you that jackieâs just lost. and hurt.
and then came the nightmares, too.
you start to wake at night to the sound of her gasping, a sharp cry muffled into the blanket she clutches around her. she mustâve shot up, her breaths coming fast and shallow, and for a moment, you think she might wake everyone else. but the others keep sleeping, too used to the sounds of restless nights to stir. thatâs how it starts because you -unsure of what else to do- only reach out and put a hand on her shoulder. jackie flinches, not expecting anyone else to be up at this time. you two never talk about it afterwards but you feel the way she instantly melts into your touch.
that small gesture is what makes you realize how much youâve missed being close to another person.
after this, it is like a switch has been flipped: jackie is fixated on always lingering in your presence, eager for any kind of touch she can get, whether itâs a brush of hands, her palm to your back, or sitting shoulder to shoulder. she even picks up certain chores just to be near you. whether it is a desperate attempt for proximity and closeness or a real crush thatâll keep on growing beyond this place where youâre stuck, it feels nice to be wanted like this.
one of these nights, with the cabin quiet and the air heavy with the sound of soft snores and the occasional crackle of the dying fire, jackie takes things one step further.
everyone else is huddled together for warmth, but in the farthest corner of the room, itâs just you. or at least it was, until jackie had slipped down beside you, her breath visible in the freezing air as she sits close -closer than she needs to.
she whispers, careful not to wake the others, âitâs freezing. youâre practically an icicle over here,â she hesitates, her hands tugging at her blanket as if trying to decide what to say next. after another moment, she ventures, âi donât know how youâre even handling it. i feel like my fingers might fall off any secondâ
her eyes flicker to yours, searching for something. permission, maybe, to come even closer than she already is. âyou know,â she says lightly, almost offhand, âitâd probably be warmer if we shared. not that anyone would care⊠or even notice.â
she doesnât press it further, leaving the idea hanging between you. sure, the two of you have shared your moments before, but you certainly hadnât spent the night cuddling yet.
the silence stretches out, her gaze darting to yours again, waiting for any sign. and then you shift, just a little, leaning closer, not quite touching but enough to give her what she needs. the corner of her mouth twitches, and without a word, she slides her blanket open, wrapping it around the both of you as she settles closer.
jackie voice is barely above a whisper, the words brushing against your ear. âthis is okayâŠright?â
you nod, softly, knowing sheâll see from where sheâs curled up against you from behind. like this, the two of you lie in silence for a good while. you know jackie is awake still: you can feel the way she occasionally shifts, or how her breathing wonât still in a way that it would if she was asleep.
itâs strange, how natural this feels: being this close to someone, so comfortably tangled together after such a long time. a part of you had forgotten how it would feel. another part, the one thatâs been falling in love with jackie taylor long before your plane crashed, longs to have her even closer and tries its very hardest not to allow your mind to wanderâŠ
jackie, on the other hand, hasnât felt this close to any of the other girls either. without thinking, her hand moves of its own accord, around you to rest on your stomach. her fingers are cold, even through your layers of clothing. she brushes them lightly over your skin, the touch gentle. you audibly gulp, but let her.
after another moment, you are finally brave enough to shift. you lift yourself up and adjust until youâre facing her. jackieâs hand remains on the dip of your waist underneath the blanket.
your bodies are flush against each other, your breaths mingling in the sliver of air between you. jackieâs eyes widen a fraction as you turn, her hand instinctively tightening its grip on your waist. the shift in your position has brought you even closer together.
her hand slides further, fingertips tracing over the shape of your hip. âyouâre still cold,â she murmurs, her voice low and hushed in the quiet cabin. her eyes rake over you, her gaze lingering over the curve of your lips.
âit is cold in hereâ you point out, shivering at the realization of her wandering eyes. jackie isnât exactly subtle about it either. after all, thereâs not much sheâs ever wanted that she didnât get.
her touch is moving from your hip down to the curve of your thigh. her fingers dance over the fabric of your pants underneath the blanket. sheâs still fixated on your mouth, her breath hitching as she sees the way you shiver under her gaze.
jackie leans in a little closer when she feels the way your legs fall open under her hands, her lips nearly brushing against your ear as she whispers, âyou know, i think iâve got a few more ways i could help warm you upâŠâ her hand moves again, sliding further up your thigh.
itâs pathetic, really. itâs a desperate attempt to cling to normality. to feel wanted in spite of everything. itâs a short moment in the terrors of the wilderness that she wonât speak about in the morning. but, fuck it, youâre willing to take it.
your breath hitches in your throat when jackieâs hand inches up your leg, a small noise slipping from your lips. immediately, jackie hushes you.
âshâ she says, eyes darting to where the others are fast asleep. âwe have to be quietâ and with that, your last restraints are gone. it only confirms what jackie is up to right now -if it hadnât been clear yet, it certainly is now. and while you know, rationally, that this is a bad idea, the need to feel someoneâs touch is too strong for you to neglect it any longer: awkward attempts of trying to get off under the covers whilst everyone else sleeps are clearly not doing enough for you.
at least jackie seems to be on the same page.
you both shift and adjust against each other. itâs a little clumsy, and it takes a moment to find a good position, but itâs driven by the need for something youâve both been craving, so you make it work. before you know it, jackie lingers above you in a way that has her center pressing against your own under the sheets.
she exhales a shuddered breath and your hands jump up to hold her hips. your eyes are wide as you stare up at her, partly in disbelief that this is happening, mostly because you canât believe that jackie wants you like this.
jackie leans in, not kissing you yet, but with her arms bracing her weight on either side of your head, caging you in. her eyes are dark, her gaze flickering over your features in a way that makes your stomach flip.
beneath the covers, her legs shift, her body pushing further into yours, grinding against you for the first time, in a way that is deliberate and calculated. her breath stutters, her voice hoarse as she speaks, âyouâve gotta be-â she gasps, and bites her lip, resisting the moan that threatens to escape. âquietâ
oh, how you wish you couldâve met her under different circumstances. how you wish jackie couldâve wanted you like this all the way back home, so you couldâve heard the way she sounds when sheâs moving on top of you.
when you finally come back to your senses, you decide to make the most of this opportunity. holding her hips a little tighter, you lift your own from the ground to meet her halfway.
jackie, whoâs only ever known sex to be something merely mediocre, is surprised that grinding against you (fully clothed, and in a room full of sleeping people that prevent you from going all the way) is already better than anything sheâs ever had.
she shivers as you take the initiative, matching her movements with a gasp that she barely manages to bite back. she arches into you, her body moving steadily now.
her hands slide up your sides, fingers slipping under the edge of your shirt to feel the warm skin of your stomach. she leans in, her breath a shaky, quiet: âgod, yesâŠjust like thatâŠâ
you can feel your own underwear, clinging to your arousal which is growing exponentially at this rate. thereâs no way youâll last long like this, not when youâre embarrassingly close to creaming your pants just from watching her. each of your movements is mirrored by one of hers, until youâve found a good rhythm to grind against the other. at some point, jackieâs body goes slack and she drops forward. you instantly hold her to your chest as she keeps rutting against you, moaning the faintest little âah, ah, ahâ sounds into your ear.
the friction between you spikes, both of you desperate and greedy for more connection. your hips keep meeting in a slow, steady rhythm, both pushing and pulling each other into deeper contact.
her hands are still wandering over your body, exploring every inch of your skin she can reach through the clothing thatâs supposed to keep you warm but is severely restricting right now.
she draws you closer, her mouth by your ear, her voice a low, husky whisper, âi want youâŠi want you so badlyâŠâ she whispers. whether jackie means it or not, it works on you.
âdonât stopâ you tell her, rocking into her equally desperately. at this point you can only pray that no one will hear the creaking floor boards. the sheets are a tangled mess around the two of you, the covers having slipped down to her waist as the heat between you escalates.
âjackieâ you whisper, hoping the urgency to your tone will get the message across. judging by the way she nods erratically, that seems to be the case.
âyeahâ she says, bobbing her head still. âyeah, me tooâ
you, embarrassed as you are, cum first. itâs quiet, your lips parted in a silent scream as jackieâs constant rocking sends you stumbling over the edge youâve been toeing since she began straddling you. she watches you fall apart beneath her, not once slowing down or stopping altogether, determined to make herself cum too.
her eyes flutter and she struggles to keep her breathing steady as her hold on you tightens. âdonât- donât you dare stop-â she hisses, your pleasure not yet ebbing by the time she follows. jackie is beautiful, obviously, but youâve never seen something that could ever compare to her when she makes herself come against you: her head falls back and her eyes close tightly. sheâs biting her lower lip so harshly she could be drawing blood for the sake of not being too loud.
finally, after her body has gone tense for a couple of seconds, jackie slumps against you. sheâs panting right into your ear, unable to speak as her orgasm washes over her. you can feel her thighs trembling around yours as she recovers.
for a few moments, the only sound in the room is the ragged breathing of the two of you as the silence hangs heavy in the air. the cabin is quiet, the rest of the team blissfully unaware of what just happened a few feet away.
âholy shitâ you finally breathe, unsure of what else to do or say. thankfully, jackie doesnât move away like a part of you had anticipated. she stays right there, on top of you, giving you the courage to hesitantly wrap your arms around her and hold her to your chest.
if you don't move, you'll fall asleep like this and the others will have plenty of questions in the morning. still, neither of you has got the strength to get up, to move away from the heat you're providing. your eyes grow heavy before you know it. it's the first night of good sleep in a long time.

.á friend!RIIZE flirting with you àŒâ§âË.
req: I js discovered your blog and im obsseseddddđ could you do riize as friends flirting with you on party and being very bold? thank youuu
pairing: friend!riize x reader âmasterlist
â.á shotaro
Your group of friends had decided to throw a party to celebrate the end of your first year at university. The party was pretty crowded, and although you didnât usually enjoy these events, you were having a good time. At one point, Shotaro, one of your closest friends, came over to talk to you, and the two of you spent a long time chatting while sipping your drinks. You werenât sure if it was because the music was so loud or because Shotaro had had a bit too much to drink, but he kept moving closer to you, leaning in to your ear every time he wanted to say something. You didnât expect him to place his hand on your hip and whisper:
"You look too good tonight, and you smell amazing... Should we find somewhere more private?"
.á eunseok
Since you arrived at the party, youâd been hanging out with your friend, dancing and having some drinks. The moment you noticed Eunseok watching you, you couldnât stop wondering why he was staring. When your friend stepped away, Eunseok wasted no time approaching you to start a conversation, offering you a drink while his eyes swept up and down your figure. After a few seconds of silence, he brought his hand near his lips and said:
"Wow... I've been waiting all night to come up to you, and I donât know if I can wait any longer to get even closer."
â.á sungchan
One of your friends suggested playing truth or dare during a small party your group had planned. After some time drinking, you all decided to make things more exciting with the game. The questions and dares grew increasingly bold, which made the situation even more interesting. You didnât expect that one of the dares would result in you spending five minutes alone in a closet with Sungchan. It felt strange being so close to him, and you couldnât help but notice how he was looking down at you.
"People will probably think weâre doing something in here..."
"I mean... I wouldnât mind giving them something to talk about if itâs with you."
â.á wonbin
Although youâd known Wonbin for years and were part of the same friend group, the two of you had never really talked alone, so you didnât know much about him. One night, your group decided to go to a nightclub together. You spent a long time dancing and drinking with your friends, but gradually, they began pairing off with others or heading off with their significant others. At one point, you stepped outside for some fresh air and ran into Wonbin. You ended up talking for a while about how it seemed like everyone had someone except for the two of you. After a moment of silence, he surprised you by saying:
"If we were together, everyone would be jealous of us... Donât you think? I think weâd make a great couple."
â.á seunghan
You werenât a big fan of parties, but Seunghan had spent weeks convincing you to attend one that a classmate was hosting, so you finally agreed. You didnât plan to stay long, but at least you could keep Seunghan company for a while. When you arrived, you went over to him, and he offered you a drink. The two of you ended up talking for a long time. You were good friends and got along really well, but something about the way he was looking at you that night felt different. Every chance he got, heâd touch your cheek or your shoulder. When Seunghan stepped away to grab some snacks, a guy approached you to ask for your number. As soon as Seunghan returned and saw what was happening, he placed his hand on your arm and said:
"Hey, back off. I saw her first, sheâs mine."
â.á sohee
It always surprised you how much Soheeâs personality changed after a few drinks. You were at a party heâd organized at his house, and although he was usually calm and adorable, just one drink made him outgoing and energetic, chatting with everyone. But for some reason, Sohee had stuck by your side all night. At one point, you stepped out into his garden to get some fresh air, and the two of you sat on the grass. After a few seconds, you noticed Sohee was staring at you.
"Mgh? Is something wrong Sohee?"
"I donât know if itâs the alcohol or you, but my heartâs been pounding all night when Iâm around you. I canât stop looking at you, y/n."
â.á anton
Your friends had decided to celebrate the end of exams with a night out at a nightclub. You were with a big group, and youâd spent hours dancing and drinking with your friends. At one point, when you went to the bar for a drink, you ran into Anton, one of your friends. You chatted for a few moments while waiting for your drinks. Once they arrived, you turned to leave, but you felt Anton grab your hand. Confused, you turned back to face him. Pulling you closer and placing his hand on your arm, he leaned in and whispered:
"Iâve been watching you all night, y/n, and I need to know if I have a chance with you or if I should just pretend Iâm not obsessed with you."

a/n ~ please enjoy! mwa áŻáĄŁđ©
You fight for your kingdom. You fight for its treasure which thousands have fallen to protect. You fight for your precious life, and that is why you are regarded with the highest rank and greatest respect.
Because you fight for the kingdomâs treasure.Â
Because you are the kingdomâs treasure.Â
Your men donât know youâre the princess that they are meant to die for. Your enemies donât know you are not the general they desire to kill with every fiber of their being and dignity as a soldier.Â
It is your greatest amusement, watching your enemies fall at your feet with such hatred in their glare at the one thing they desire so greatly.
You are the princess of the northern kingdom. Your skin is cold as frostbite, but warm blood streams healthily throughout their vessels. Your hair is white as the snow leopard which hides deep within your icy soul. You are a beauty, and you have the one thing all men wish to obtain. Immortality.Â
Although that term is very misleading, it is more or less true. You are gifted with everlasting youth and health until you die by a sword to your frozen heart. You have the ability to give any one being your gift.Â
Your northern kingdom wishes to let you live as any princess would until you pass peacefully. They believe immortality should not be brought upon any man or woman. Again, they do not realize it isnât quite immortality. Nonetheless, the four kingdoms are at constant war, fighting to obtain the princess or protect the princess from the wrong hands.
     âWhere are your men?âÂ
You donât turn your head, your eyes focused on pulling your warm gloves over your bruised hands. You recognize his voice, the man whom you happen to come across at least once a week in battle. Heâs a general from the east, dressed in complete black from his long, bunned hair to his horse.Â
âIâm on vacation today,â you say softly, leaning back on your hands as you peek over at him. âDidnât you hear? The princess died. Fightâs over.âÂ
He huffs a laugh, smiling as he glances over at the entrance to the cave youâre resting in, sitting atop your beautiful white horse.Â
âYour men are missing as well,â you point out, eyeing the entrance. Thereâs no commotion or presence. Heâs alone.
âI came here to rest,â he says.
âI doubt that,â you sigh. âDid you follow me here? Think Iâd undress? Per-â
âI think itâs time one of us dies,â he interrupts. âMen are falling at our sides and yet here we stand unharmed. We must fall alone for the sake of what will come of this war.â
You tilt your head. How virtuous. âAnd what if you fall?â
âSo be it,â he answers confidently. âBut I will not.â
âI donât think you understand why Iâm so good at what I do, Park Seonghwa,â you whisper. Your tiny voice echoes throughout the cave, and your footsteps bounce from the walls as you dismount your horse.
He comes down to your level, his boots clacking softly against the wet rock. He towers over you, but he doesnât look so intimidating off of his stallion. He reaches out and taps your helmet curiously.
âIs it this?â he asks. âYou hiding something under there?âÂ
You smile softly. âLetâs fight to the death,â you say. âThen weâll find out.âÂ
Seonghwa overpowers you with his pure strength, but you have an immaculate technique to counter. Heâs good with his sword, but heâs so predictable. Itâd almost be boring if not for his constantly trying to run at you and put you down. What kind of strategy is that? Itâs pathetic. I guess heâs trying to use your weakness, but, really, letâs be serious.Â
But brute strength and better technique do balance out a little more than youâd like. Itâs been hours of back-and-forth jabs and deep slices, and youâre both bleeding puddles onto the rocky cave ground. Youâre panting, bent over as you clutch your trembling arm. Youâve lost your sword at this point, your fist curled tight as if you could deal a punch on this man while you werenât about to pass out.Â
Seonghwa isnât much better, but heâs standing tall, his sword snapped in two at his feet. Heâs dripping streams of blood from his limbs, but he puffs his chest out in a laugh. He takes a trembling step forward, his expression remaining calm despite the tremors of his limbs. He reaches out slowly, and you canât find it in you to stop him.
As your helmet crashes to the floor, the metal clanking and echoing aggressively until it rolls to a stop, your hair falls into its natural place, covering your face from his faltering gaze. His fingers gently touch a strand, slowly following it to its tip without disturbing its soft delicacy.Â
âYou understand now?â you choke out, trying to hide your fear. Seeing what you desire most practically in your hands could drive a man mad. Fuck technique, he could take you right now, and you wonât be able to stop him. Itâll all be over.Â
âI understand,â he says quietly. You lift your head in choppy, trembling movements. âYour kingdom does not understand your giftâs beauty, so they have thrown you to the one place where you can die.âÂ
You clench your jaw. Heâs hardly holding your hair between his fingers with any determination, but it feels like a tight leash. You canât back away. âYou donât understand, then,â you say.
     âPrincess.â
Your leg shoots up to his face, and he grabs your calf, a deep scowl running over his soft features. He pushes your leg away, but you push harder until he slams into the ground. He grips your hair, pulling you with him with a harsh tug, and you immediately slam your hands into his throat, sitting your knees on the deep slashes on his arms. You dig your broken fingers into his neck, his eyes wide and arms useless. He grits his teeth, desperate to breathe as he squirms under you. His eyes never leave yours, his pupils contracted to thin slits of livid warning. As you eye the shards of his sword, preparing to end this once and for all, you hear a roar of footsteps coming from outside the cave.
You grunt, throwing yourself away from him and sprinting further into the cave. You hear him cough and gasp, stumbling pathetically behind you as you escape into the darkness.
Youâve been hiding behind a waterfall for hours. Itâs cold, your clothes soaked in blood and mist from the splash of the water. Youâre far from the cave, having found a small hole to escape from. Youâre hidden carefully where no one should find you.Â
And you donât know what to do.
Youâre cold and hungry. Youâre too cautious to go out to find food. Youâre too injured to move much anyway. Youâve wrapped up your cuts with strips of fabric from your clothes, but thatâs all you can do. Your satchel is back with your horse. You think you should call for help. But⊠What if Seonghwa was right? Your kingdom had always expressed their hatred for your gift. You had wanted to be a soldier since you were young, but⊠normally kingdoms donât let their princesses go to war, do they?Â
You sigh, resting your head against the damp rock behind you. âI donât know,â you mumble, gazing out through the gentle stream of water at the entrance to the cave.Â
You hardly hear the gentle rustling of the flowers beside the pond, but you quickly scoot yourself deeper into the darkness when you see two black boots appear. Itâs Seonghwa.
âAre you kidding me?â you say through tightly gritted teeth.Â
Heâs standing there, but he doesnât look like he sees you. He looks calm, eyes gazing at the soft ripples of the water. His hair rests gently against his neck, wavy and thick, almost reaching his shoulders. He runs his rough fingers through the top, ruffling it lightly. He wonât see you. Heâs off guard now. Heâs alone.Â
You sit up slightly. Heâs alone, off guard. You should kill him. You look around with your eyes without making any sudden movement. Thereâs hardly anything around you. No loose rocks or sticks. Itâs all just⊠You spot a sharp rock from you. Heâll definitely see you. Thereâs no way you can reach it without him seeing you. Anyway, thereâs no way you could muster the strength to crawl over there. Youâre involuntarily limp. You should just pray he leaves. Donât get into a fight.Â
But you eye him and start to panic when you spot him dipping his bare feet in the water, his shirt gone, and his hands working at the strings of his pants. How did he get undressed so quickly?? Is he seriously going to bathe in the middle of his enemyâs land??Â
He pauses, though, and you nearly breathe a sigh of relief, your shoulders releasing their tension slowly. His muscles and scars flex as he turns slightly, his head tilting back into a small roll, stretching his stiff neck. He looks tired, his lips parted softly, eyes closed gently. Heâs certainly doing better than you, but you definitely made him too weak to fight for a while. He lets out a soft sigh, and your ears perk up at the sound, the slight vocalization of his low voice rumbling gently through his chest.Â
     âPrincessâŠâ
Your ears fall, your expression blank. You donât breathe, donât think.Â
âLet me treat your wounds,â he says, tilting his head forward as he eyes the stream of water protecting you from his view. Or perhaps not.Â
But you remain still. Why would you go out? Even if itâs petty, you wonât give up. Even if itâs useless, you shouldnât just hand yourself over.
âOr will you watch me undress and bathe like a pervert?â he asks, and it gains him a scurry of trembling legs against the slippery cave floor.Â
Youâre not just giving yourself to him⊠Heâs going to heal you, and then youâll run away. You wonât fight him. You wonât let him take you. Youâll run farâŠ
You can hardly climb down onto the soft grass, and you land harshly on your hands. Your arms fail to prop you up, so your face lies against the fluff of the damp green. Heâs slow and cool as he walks over to you, kneeling beside you. He doesnât touch you or say anything. He gazes at you for a second, your white locks stained by the puddles of your blood. Your bandages have done nothing to stop your bleeding.
His fingers graze your hair before he lifts your head slightly. You groan, your head pounding as he lays it atop a soft fabric.Â
âJust lay here,â he says quietly. âI will take care of your wounds.âÂ
His touch is so delicate. As much as you want to push him away, you want to pull him closer and have him caress your poor body like this forever. As much as you want to run away, you want to sink into the grass and fall asleep to his gentle breaths.Â
Your eyes open drowsily, hardly able to roll back into place, as youâre surrounded by warm, gentle water. The lake envelops your stinging limbs, and it numbs the feeling that youâre so used to. It should enhance the pain, and yet you feel weightless, skinless, boundless, yet still calm and sleepy.Â
âI used an ointment from the east,â he says below his breath, so quietly. âItâs very efficient,â he takes a soft breath, âand itâs lovely.â His voice is beside your ear, and you know his body is touching yours in familiar, intimate ways. But his voice is enchanting, lulling you to a hazy clarity of calm. âAre you hungry, princess?â he asks.
One of his arms wraps around your waist, which is bare, as his skin directly slides along yours. Your cushion is his lap, but that is clothed as it should be. As he reaches for a basket along the grass beside the water, his chest leans further against your back. You gaze down with a warm, slow breath. Your chest is covered. Heâs a kind monster at least.
âHere,â he says, holding a container of fresh water up for you to take. Your hands tremble but can hardly move. Your head tilts to the side in a weak frustration. Your head is so fuzzy. It doesnât hurt any longer, but you canât seem to take control of any of your movements. Perhaps youâve lost far too much blood. âPrincess,â he whispers, and you hum in weak acknowledgment. With a sigh, he brings the container to your lips, but you can hardly form any shape with them, and the water flows quickly to the pond beneath the target. He takes it away with a soft grumble. Then, he brings it to his own lips, takes a small sip, and his other hand lifts your chin gently.
His lips barely touch yours, just slightly to open your wide enough for the water to pass through. When he leans away, his fingers close your jaw, and you swallow weakly, your brows knitted together in relief as your horrible thirst is finally starting to be quenched.Â
He takes another sip and repeats, his head tilting slightly in something you would hardly call a kiss. But as you swallow, the sharp pain in your throat begging for more, your useless fingers claw gently at his side, and he pauses in his tracks, his eyes searching for whatâs wrong. You canât speak. You need more. He needs to hurry.Â
Your head trembles as you lift it slightly. âM-more,â you mumble. You should just drink it yourself. Fuck, you need more.
He hurries to take another sip, and you meet him in the middle, smashing your lips against his. His body lifts a little as you push forward. You swallow the water quickly, and he tries to go away, but heâs going too fucking slow. Your lips move desperately against his, your throat burning with need.
âP-Princess,â he gasps, turning his head away quickly. He grabs the container and takes a larger sip, bringing it back, and youâre on top of him before he can turn completely. Your wounds are healing fast with this lovely ointment, and your hands can finally move as you grab the back of his neck and pull his lips down onto yours. Thereâs more this time, and you swallow hard, pushing your tongue into his mouth to find whatever you can before he has to leave again. âThereâs-â he gasps, âno- more-âÂ
Your fingers slide through his damp hair, soft and thick against your rough hands. Heâs curled over you, your back arched as you pull him desperately closer. Fuck, youâre hardly even thirsty anymore. His taste, his gasps, his vulnerability, and his kindness. You need more. As your fingers slide through his hair, he groans softly. It probably feels good. Someone like him has never felt such love, such care and affection. You want to give it to him so bad. You should repay him for his kindness.Â
You break away, panting and flushed. His eyes are hooded, his lips puffy as he leans toward you. His cheeks are a light pink, hair disheveled. What a beautiful sight.
Your lips find his jaw, feeling it clench as you trail soft pecks down to his neck. His skin is soft here, untouched. You nibble lightly on the skin and listen to his gentle shiver as you give kitten licks to ease the sting. You graze your teeth against him as you open wider, teasing the skin as you press lightly down. His hands slide across your thighs, squeezing them as he lifts his chin a little more, giving you more access.Â
Thumping footsteps make both of you jump, and a deep, obnoxious voice calls out, âSeonghwa!â He pushes your head harshly under the surface, and everything else is muffled for you. His hands quickly gather your hair and hold your strands tightly so they wonât float everywhere.
You open your eyes slowly, listening intently to the voices above. Seonghwa is looking behind him, speaking, but you canât make anything out. You wonât die or anything, but, if you run out of air, youâll pass out. You really donât want to deal with that right now.
Pressing your lips together tightly, you lower your eyes to his body to occupy your mind while you wait. Fuck, his bare, hard chest and defined stomach sitting right in front of you... He should really thank you for this body. Fuck, heâs beautiful. Really, itâs because of you heâs had to train so hard.Â
His⊠ohâŠ? You raise a brow as your eyes land on his crotch. Heâs wearing black briefs, his thighs thick and hard, but not harder than his cock. The bulge is big and hard to miss, straining against the fabric. It doesnât leave much of anything to the imagination. The tip is outlined, the shape of him defined in detail just for you. How is he so worked up from a few innocent kisses?Â
You glance up, and heâs taking his sweet time talking to those men. Youâre going to run out of air soon, but this fucker doesnât care, does he? He thinks because youâre immortal you can just sit under water like itâs nothing.Â
You huff, a small bubble of air floating to the surface, and you grab his cock. He jumps, his hand tightening around your hair and pulling lightly in warning. But you donât let go. Heâll get them out of here, or his dick is gonna fall off.Â
Itâs heavy in your hand, though still covered by the fabric. You wonder how thick itâd feel out of the water, just resting in your hand. You wonder how heâd sound if you gripped it hard and stroked him until he came with a pathetic whine. You swallowed hard, feeling it pulse in your grip.Â
Feeling newly frustrated, you look up, and heâs still talking. What the fuck is there to even say? You grit your teeth and grab the band of his briefs, pulling them down until his cock slowly comes out, floating to hit against his stomach. He pulls more harshly on your hair, and you groan. It doesnât hurt underwater. Everything feels numb and weightless. It just tickles a little. Maybe itâs because youâre losing air, and your head is feeling foggy, but you want to push him further. You want him to hurry, but you also want to torture him just a bit.Â
You wrap your hand around him, your fingers almost able to touch but not quite. Heâs so hard, twitching in your hold and shivering as you slowly glide your hand up to the tip. You watch his stomach tense up at every subtle movement. He sinks a bit further into the water as your thumb brushes over the slit. Heâs throbbing at this point. Maybe being watched is getting him off. Maybe he likes the thrill of possibly getting caught.Â
You stroke him slowly, feeling every vein and unique shape, mesmerized by how his entire body shudders when you do something he likes. Fuck, you want to hear him. Heâs so stern and confident, but, look at him, heâs trembling just for you.Â
You stroke him a little faster, your air running thin quicker and quicker and time moves fast. He grabs your wrist, and suddenly, youâre lifted from the water.Â
You gasp for air, coughing and taking long, deep breaths. He pats your back as you grasp his shoulders, wiping at your eyes as you try to see again. Fuck, your head hurts. That was close. You really thought you would pass out there.Â
âFuck, Seo-â He grabs your body and lifts you over his shoulder. Your upper body hands against his back as he holds you there by your thighs. Your wet hair dangles into the water, floating along the surface like a spiderâs web. âWhat are you-!â
He grabs the waistband of your pants and pulls them down, discarding them somewhere, and suddenly your ass feels very fucking cold. You squeak pathetically as his hand digs into your flesh, his fingers slipping slightly into the wetness of your core.Â
âSince you seem to like games like this, we should keep playing, right?â he practically growls. You feel a thick finger slowly slide through your slick, and you shiver. It slips through your soaked lips and teases your hole before moving away completely. âWho knows who might come and see us, princess?â he says, his voice low and thick with anger.Â
You try to spout something back, but he slams two fingers into your hole, and a long, pathetic moan is all you can utter. Your legs try to spread wider, but they canât move, and it makes everything so tight. Fuck, heâs ramming his fingers against your walls, and you tremble, your moans airy as you struggle to breathe and absorb the pleasure at the same time.Â
âSomeone could be watching right now,â he says. âMaybe itâs your men. Theyâll watch their great general cum on their enemyâs fingers.â
His teeth graze your side before biting down on your flesh. You whimper, his every word and- No, no, what the fuck are you doing? You let him have his way as soon as he gave you something good. You groan as you reach into the water and search until you find his cock. You grab it tightly, and his pace falters.
âPrincess,â he warns, but both of you stop as soon as you hear a slight rustling in the woods.
Your body is slammed into the water, and he follows right behind this time. He urges you to swim toward the waterfall, and you get there before him, pulling him to the surface quickly, and his hand wraps around your mouth as you go to say something.Â
âI swear I saw her come this way!â a young man shouts. âLook! She must have been here!â He must be pointing to Seonghwaâs bag, which was beside the river.
Seonghwa is pressed against you, your back to the rock path which you had been resting on before he found you. The cave is dark and silent as you both listen intently.Â
âSheâs most certainly been captured,â a deep, nasty voice declares. You know that voice all too fucking well, and your eyes grow wide. The king. âFollow the river to the northern kingdom. It is where she must be!â
There are too many footsteps to count as his army does as theyâre told. Everything goes silent again, and you release the breath you didnât realize youâve been holding. You should have called out for them, but it hardly even crossed your mind. Why?Â
Turning back to Seonghwa here, you donât even care about going home.
Neither of you even question it. You donât care.
He lifts you onto the rock and spreads your legs, your hips right against the edge. His warm breath fans over your thighs as he gazes into your eyes. Your cheeks are so hot despite the cool air against your wet skin, and you lean back onto your hands with a soft sigh. You watch as his gaze fixes on your pussy, a low groan tingling your ears.Â
One of your hands comes to his head, your fingers tangling in his hair as he kisses your inner thigh softly. His lips press against your slick, and you whimper, biting your lip as his brows lift at the taste of you. His eyes roll to a close, his tongue licking a thick strip from your hole to your clit, and you tremble, your ears twitching as the wet sounds of him against you are enhanced by the cave walls.Â
His hands grip your thighs as he sighs, his lips moving like a kiss against your pussy, his tongue flicking your clit and tasting your sweet slick desperately.
âFuck ngh~â you whine, your hips grinding against his tongue. âS-Seonghwa, Seonghwa~â Your words are airy and slurred, your eyes shaking as they roll to the back of your head with every suck and lick against your clit. His breathing is getting heavier, and you notice the lack of one of his hands on you. âSeonghwa, Seonghwa, sstop, Iâll h-hellp yoou,â you mumble, pushing his head away, but he doesnât move. His lips move faster, his tongue burying deep in your hole, and your back falls to the rock, your legs trembling as he fucks your soaked hole with his tongue. âHhwa, Seonghwa mm~ Hwa, llet me, pleease,â you beg, feeling his rhythm pick up, the heat and pleasure building quickly. âNo, no,â you whine, a tear slipping down your burning cheek. âIâm gonna cum, fuck, Seonghwa.â You grind your pussy against his lips as your body trembles in pure ecstasy. You let out a desperate moan as he flicks his tongue over your clit, riding out your orgasm until youâre limp, shaking under him.Â
âGood girl,â he mumbles, leaving a peck on you as he backs away.
âShut the fuck up,â you growl, grabbing his hair. You sit up, closing your legs with a huff. âFuck me. Right now.â His eyes grow a little wide, and you quirk a brow. âWhatâs wrong? Did you already cum?â He doesnât answer, and you tug on his hair harder. âAll on your own?â You laugh in disbelief. âGet out of the water.â
He climbs onto the rock, and you push him onto his back, straddling his lap. Suddenly heâs so quiet. Suddenly his dick isnât a hard, throbbing mess. You scoff, gripping him and pressing your pussy against him. He groans, his brows furrowed as you grind slowly.Â
âThat wasnât very nice of you, Seonghwa,â you spit, humming softly at the little bits of pleasure your clit gets. âEspecially toward a princess.â You feel him growing harder in your grip, and you smile. âDo you have anything to say for yourself?âÂ
Heâs silent, his soft breaths the only answer.
âOf course, not,â you say. âCumming all on your own. I didnât even get to see your pretty face.â You reach out and push back the little hairs covering his eyes. You grab his chin harshly and pull him toward you. You smash your lips against his, grinding your hips harder as you feel him grow stiff. He whimpers against your mouth, his hands grabbing your hips and trying to still you, so you drop him with a huff. He groans as his head hits the floor, but before he can recover, you're lining his dick up to your hole.Â
âP-Princess,â he whimpers, his eyes rolling back as you sink onto his thick cock. Your lips puff out as you stifle a moan, his tip rubbing just the right spot, so deep inside you. You place your hands on his chest, your head hanging as you get used to the stretch.Â
âY/n,â you whisper, afraid your voice will fail you if you try to speak. âSay my name,â you whine, âplease, say my name, fuck ngh~â
His cock twitches as he suppresses the need to thrust into your tight, soaked hole. âY/n,â he gasps as you lift your hips slowly and drop back down. âY/n, y/n, princess, do that again, fuck~âÂ
As you lift your hips again and slam them back down, you collapse onto his chest with a soft cry. You let your hips do the work, your mouth devouring his as you fuck yourself on his cock. His hands grip your hips, pushing you down faster when you lift up. He wants to melt into you, this feeling making his entire body shudder with pleasure. His cock rubs against your walls and hits you just right, and youâre literally drooling into his mouth as you moan his name.Â
âY/n, Y/n! Y/n, baby, youâre so tight,â he moans. âAre you gonna cream on my cock for me, princess? Come on, I know youâre close.â He plants his feet and grabs your hips, thrusting up into your pussy as you slam down. He picks up the pace and your head falls to his chest, your body limp as he fucks you desperately. âCome on,â he begs. âIâm gonna cum~â He hiccups. âTogether, baby, come on, please~â He bites your shoulder as he tries to stop his moans, but his voice only gets louder as his thick, warm cum fills your pussy. Your eyes roll back as you feel him stuff you full, but itâs just not enough to make you cum. You canât see his beautiful face.Â
So you lift off of his cock, his cum spilling out of you quickly, and you straddle his head, sitting your pussy against his lips. You watch his hazy eyes spill soft tears as he laps at you, drinking his own cum and your sweet slick. It doesnât take much as he fucks you on his tired tongue, your pussy grinding on him at your own pace, for you to cum, whimpering and gasping as your body shakes with bliss. You watch him tremble as his cock spurts again, his face contorting beautifully just like youâd wanted to see.Â
You sit beside him and admire his beauty, completely limp on the rocky floor. Heâs wet with tears and cum, and his stomach is messy with his release.
You lean down and lick from his stomach to his soft cock, cleaning his cum off of his body. He shivers gently until youâre done, and you lay beside him.
Your clothes have all dried, the sun warm against your skin as you both lay in the grass. Thereâs a comfortable yet questioning silence in the air. What now?
âI donât think I want to go home,â you say, gazing at the thin clouds and gentle sway of the trees.Â
Your answer is obvious. You want to live freely. But you know thereâs no possibility of that ever happening. You know, whether you go home, where youâre resented for your gift, or go with Seonghwa, where you are desired for your gift, you will never be free.Â
âYou were right. What you said when we had our duel.â He quirks a brow. âThey sent me out to die.âÂ
âShall we just kill the northern king, then?â
You whip your head toward him, his smile teasing as he gazes at you.Â
âYouâre joking,â you sigh, turning away.Â
âIâm not.â He sits up with a small grunt. âLetâs take over the northern kingdom.â
âHell no,â you spit, propping yourself up on your hands. âSeonghwa, you're an eastern general. Iâm not starting shit with you.â
     âSo what do you want?â
He looks at you silently. There isnât a word in his eyes, and it forces you to think. What the fuck have you been doing your whole life besides killing to protect your fucking immortal gift? And the northern king refuses to use it. He wants you and your gift dead, but⊠what do you want?Â
âI want the fighting to stop,â you say. âI want men to stop dying for their greed.â
âWhat do you want, princess?â he asks again. âForget your gift. What do you want?âÂ
You glance down at your clothes, dirty and old. A manâs clothes which you never really wanted to wear. The thrill of the battlefield is what keeps you moving, but youâve always desired what couldâve been without your immortality.Â
âShall we?â you mumble, gazing up at Seonghwa. âShall we just kill him?âÂ

Chills Right to the Marrow Part 52
ao3 link| part 1 . . . part 49, part 50, part 51
Wayne had a bed. The âFor Saleâ sign in the front lawn of the Harringtonâs house has a giant red âSoldâ sticker. Boxes fill the trunks of cars, and all the lights go dim. Every speck of life from that house, what little there was, is gone.
They were ready to move on. Move forward. Together.
There was no going back once his truck left this driveway. This would be the last time that he would ever live in a house larger than his own imagination. Larger than his dreams could afford. Living here was never permanent, but it was safe. A space that he came home to and felt at peace. Knowing that his nephew was there, alive, that there were people that cared about them. More than he thought they should, but they did anyway.
It was unbelievable, really. Knowing how many people rally together to help people they barely know. How Wayne deserved that, how he was able to get it at all, he will never know. Heâs still wondering when they will all up and leave daily. Heâs been fighting on his own for most of his life, he doesnât know what to do with the small army thatâs rallied behind him. Behind Eddie. Any of it.
When the key turns in the lock of his new home, it feels like the first time. Like it knows that this time he walks through the door, itâs permanent. Tonight, will be the first night of his new life. Almost a fresh start. He can hold it in his hands, but it doesnât feel real.
Steve and Eddie walk in a bit later. Steve with two duffle bags slung over his shoulders. Ever since Wayneâs known about them, theyâve hid their relationship less. Still a bit when the kids are around, but once you see it, you canât unsee it. He still has his worries, but they seem to be working together. Figuring it out as they go. Trying, failing, and trying again.
Heâs never seen them so happy. Not this kind of happy at least. As they walk down the hall to Eddieâs room, laughing about something that Wayne doesnât even know, it makes him smile. It brings a light to this house that only makes it shine.
Wayneâs room isnât anything special, plain walls and carpet flooring. But it doesnât matter. He has a door. He hasnât had one of those since Eddie moved in. He has a closet. A small closet, but a closet none-the-less. He has a space of his own, one he has no clue what to do with, but canât wait to find out.
The bed gets made; his clothes get unpacked. It still looks so bare, but itâs growing. Everythingâs growing.
For the past few months, it was one thing after another. Running so fast and hoping that everything was done right in between. There were so many mistakes, so many changes. So many things Wayne wants to take back but never can. His life changed, for worse, and for better. Funny how change can do that.
âWayne, what pizza toppings do you want?â Eddie yells from the kitchen. He had to make it through several walls now, they werenât in such close quarters anymore.
âThe regular,â he yells back. Hoping it was loud enough to hear.
The first night is good. The three of them at the kitchen table, laughing. Ready for something new. When Wayne went to sleep that night, it was the most peace heâd had in a while. Every little worry he had was put on hold. Let him finally rest, so he can continue with everything else tomorrow.
The doorbell rings in the mid-morning. Dustin waiting behind it with a casserole dish.
âMy mom sends her congratulations on the house,â he says, pushing the casserole in his hands. âIâd say this is the last of it, but that would be a lie.â
Wayne laughs, nodding for Dustin to come in. âIâm surprised you guys didnât throw a welcome party or anything. Thought you would be the group to do that.â
âEddie talked us out of it, said it wouldnât be what you wanted.â
âWell, heâs right. Can I get you anything?â
He shakes his head. âNo, Iâm heading over to Mikeâs. Weâre doing this summer campaign that he made with Will and itâs taking forever.â Heâs silent for a moment, before continuing, âI still canât believe you guys actually moved.â
âCrazy how life moves sometimes, right? Iâd never thought I be able to have a place like this.â
Thereâs a crackle coming from Dustinâs backpack, a muffled voice coming through.
âI gotta go, hope you like the casserole, but donât let my mom know that unless you expect a dozen more.â
Wayne follows Dustin out, grabbing the morning paper while he watches him bike away. Itâs crazy how heâs seen that boy become the shell of a person after that week, and slowly come back to the person he is. Not quite fully there yet, but close.
Itâs even crazier how the boys eventually emerge from Eddieâs bedroom and get food. How Wayne can just faintly hear the clink of mugs as they get coffee. The crash of dishes as they make something to eat. The noise used to echo through their little space before, now is muffled by the wall that separates them.
âPaperâs here,â Wayne says when he enters the kitchen, tossing it on the table.
âThank you.â Steve puts down his coffee to go and grab the paper, flipping to the ads about vacancies.
âAnything new?â Eddie asks, eating some cereal at the table.
Steve shakes his head. âNot yet, Iâll check the other ones when I go to work though.â
âGameâs on tonight, want me to tape it for you?â Wayne asks.
âThat would be great, thank you.â
Eddie groans. âThe fact that I live with two sports fans is something I never thought would happen.â
Wayne pushes off the doorway. âWell, youâve been living with one for years, so I think you can learn to deal with it.â
He leaves them to their breakfast, looking around to find something to do. Thereâre a few things he found at the thrift store heâs still trying to find the right spot to hang. A new shelf, picture frames waiting to be filled, a painting he liked. All things to help him make this the place he always dreamed, even if it was already there.
At night, when the door closes behind him and he lays in his bed, he can still hear the movement in the house. The patter of feet as they walk down the hall and the creaks of floorboards. The thump of Eddieâs can or his crutches. The water flowing through the taps, and the music coming from the room across the hall.
All of it, everything, was more than he ever dreamed. The people that stuck by him, stood up for his family, are now his friends. A community that welcomed him with open arms. His nephew is getting better. Learning how to manage his new life, in all the aspects of it. A person who not only opened his doors for them, but wanted to stay even when there wasnât enough to give back.
What started in uncomfortable hospital chairs landed him in a plush bed, in a house that is his own. Pain transformed into hope he couldnât even conceive. Life moved, and he moved with it. Funny how it landed him here, happier than heâs been in a long time.
A laugh forms in his chest, and he frees it.
âWhatâs so funny,â Eddie asks, walking over to the couch.
âNothing,â Wayne shakes his head. âNothing at all.â
Note: Wayne's pov is now complete. One more chapter of Dustin's pov before we start the epilogue.

How would any/all feel about a fat MC, especially one insecure about her body and reluctant to let them touch at first, since she wouldnât believe they were actually into her? Iâm on the heavier side and this game is such a good escape for me. Thank you very much! đ
I've answered a similar ask before but i TRULY love this one because it gives me the chance to shout it out again: across the board, all the ROs are into fat MCs. Everyone moves to physical intimacy at their own pace and I think they'd be good at being insistent enough to prove that they're being honest while making sure they don't push hard enough to make MC more uncomfortable.
Akello used to be really fit but has since put on some poundage as his metabolism slows down but he's accepted his thickness as a blessing. He's well fed, strong, and comfortable with age changing his body. But also I think of all the ROs he's probably the most specifically into fat bodies- fat babes of all genders and presentations feel great in his hands, and he loves the look of a fat ass + thick thighs + belly. PLUS also Akello really likes to eat and he wants to share meals with an MC who's open to relishing the pleasures of life with a little bit of hedonism.
Amir loves Big Girls and Thems and Boys don't let his slender looks deceive you. He also has a very mild feeder kink and would insist that you look adorable when he can get you samples of luxe snacks you've never had before. He knows that a lot of people have baggage about eating and bodies but he's one of the first to INSIST all bodies are beautiful and that conventional notions of beauty are not only impossibly narrow, but also carry gross baggage deeply rooted in racist, classist, and sexist nonsense. Besides if a man who looks like Amir does can't pass the Conventionally Beautiful Margin just because he likes makeup and dresses and huge heels how good of a judge could it POSSIBLY be, obviously he is earth-shatteringly beautiful and they're just insecure haters.
Mori wants to put his grabby little goblin hands all over a fat MC please. He loves big boobs (gnc), big butts, big thighs to get crushed in. He has a little belly pooch himself because he's an irresponsible drinker and eats garbage so he's also one of the LEAST likely RO's to make judgments. He's here for a good time, not a long time, and he wants to enjoy getting physical with MC and explore whatever body they have.
Bonus Mentions:
Kazu may be an insufferable gym rat who meal preps but he also eats like a garbage disposal and food is a huge stress/comfort thing for him. As long as you feel strong and healthy in your body, that's all he cares about. Also he's an ass guy so please don't think a big ass won't get him all worked up.
Raath ESPECIALLY loves chubby/fat bodies. So much for him to grab and bite.
Marcel is kinda like Kazu in that he can be a little bit obsessed with his workout routine but Marcel's more interested in that for himself, not pushing it onto others, especially if they haven't explicitly shown interest in getting a routine of their own. Most likely to brag insufferably about his thicc mc partner as loud as he can, though.

Don't gatekeep feelings, please.
TLDR
I'm autistic and so I have a unique vocabulary, so bare with me please.
Hermitcraft to me is a community for all ages, that's what I expect of it. In the same way a child deserves and expects to be able to trust and learn from their parents without abuse or them being literal criminals. People are as bad as they want to be, and you can 100% grieve your expectations of them. Disappointment can hurt anyone. In the same way you invest your feelings into pets knowing they will die, and then grieving when they're gone, you can invest feelings and expectations into people you know about and that isn't childish or naive, it's human. Hermitcraft is in no way culpable for an individual's actions. The amount of distress caused by this VC's actions is widespread and not limited, in the same way an earthquake has aftershocks.
I'm genuinely grieving over iskall, The character and the community they built and the stims and autistic scripts I've built into myself because of them. I was shocked on Saturday, but at the same time, after reading that first line it didn't make sense to be any other hermit (I did not in any way predict this) at the time of reading nothing was confirmed so I felt that, innocent until proven guilty, was the way to go. My heart sank, I felt sick and I wanted to cry, I was on my way home from a long day at work and it was the first day of my hormone cycle at it's worst. The first thoughts I had were, 'no no please, it's not true, it's true, maybe it's the bullies again and he can't cope anymore'. Then the hermits started acting and I thought maybe he doesn't want to be affiliated anymore. But that didn't 100% add up. <33 to the good hermits for being amazing.
In my experience being autistic means 75% of my existence is made up of scripts I've adopted and will continue to adopt, from other people around me locally like my family, from movies, shows, and books growing up, to everything I've consumed information wise, this includes so many people, some that at one time were my hyperfixation, these scripts can be unlearnt, and I have another script that helps ('we don't do that here') but it's still a process and It's stressful and unpleasant.
VC was one of the only people I've subscribed to on twitch, I didn't even watch his live stream (they were way too stressful for me, the pay to win quality of his streams was really frustrating) I just subbed to support him. At least to me he had a 'victim' persona especially when it came to the other hermits and their success in comparison, and this translated to me the need to support him more. (He was a hermit for crying out loud, he was fine, I tell myself now), then I read the truth and the pay to win made sense because he Was showing favouritism, after reading K's statement before I was finished I knew M would be involved too and I just felt incredibly sad and heartbroken for them, no one deserves to be treated like that, and people except a certain level of human decency. I'm sorry that this happens and I'm so sad that it has.
He made me feel Grian was a bad sport and that Grian was wrong to be in videos with his friends because he was more popular, that Grian couldn't be sincere in his joy 'because he was always stealing the limelight' (I was 15 at the time and irl was tough and I had bigger problems going on, I loved C! Grian a lot) and didn't trust anyone, so I started to dislike CC! Grian a lot. (Again young n Major trust issues); I like Grian again now but felt uneasy for a long while.
VC always pops at the end of his videos when he says bye and I always watched to the end just because of it, and at a certain point I started associating popping with saying 'I love you' I did it to my family and it's been a part of my autistic script since late 2018. Others include (Hallo, Omega, of doom)
Iskall's Minecraft character is canonically non-binary/agender and in fanworks they use they/them pronouns and as someone who's a fan of mcyt, Minecraft and is gender q, that was a big deal for me to be canonically represented. They also inspired me to write incredibly niche and rare minecraft lore and head canon's for them (them being a villager/player hybrid); iskall's character is a separate entity but the association is horrifying now and that is extremely disappointing, it was the same with William Gold.
VC has made fun of people's differences and difficulties and has been generally rude at times under the guise of humour. He has laughed at people's trust in the creepest way, that even though I liked him I was scared and put off for days, I was so genuinely angry at him, because I felt humiliated. He knew who he was and laughed at our trust in him. That hurts and angers me even more now.

âI canât stay here and be single for you, youâre my best friend why canât you just be happy for meâ you whisper shout at her in the middle of the crowded streets of Manhattan. âI am happy for you, I just donât want you to regret this decision in the future-â she takes a deep breath and continues âlook all Iâm saying is that youâve given up a lot for this relationship and this is one more thing heâs asking you to give up. Moving to Paris isnât your dream y/n youâre chasing after him.âÂ
You heard her loud and clear, in fact you knew exactly what she was talking about. As much as you hate to admit you had been thinking the same thing for weeks now but how could you let him go. He was the missing puzzle piece, no he was the image youâre left with after the puzzle is completed. You had everything a girl in her mid twenties could ask for, the apartment in your dream city, the expensive shoes, the dream job and the dream boy. or at least you thought. No, you did and besides youâre not giving up your dream youâre simply moving it across an ocean. Yes, they have nice apartments in Paris, expensive shoes and people read magazines everywhere. It would take some time to find a job and some friends but once you got settled things would be the same, right?Â
âI heard you, now let's drop this conversation I already quit my job and besides we leave tomorrowâ you retort, taking a sip of your coffee hoping the warm beverage will help the lies come out smoother. She doesnât say anything for a moment in fact you forget sheâs even there. 1 beat 2 beats. âYou werenât even going to say goodbye to us? You can quit your job, throw away your shoes, hell even your hopes and dreams for some boy, but are we, am I that disposable to you.â pause âActually you know what never mind, forget I said anything. Have a nice life y/nâÂ
3 beats, 4 beats. And with that you were left in the silence again except this time she really was gone.Â
You walk into your shared apartment anxiously toying with your keys, the previous conversation replaying in your mind.Â
âBaby your home, can you help me with the-â he stops mid-sentence seeing the tears well up in your eyes.Â
âHey whatâs wrong? Things didnât go well with Aeri, I take it?â you nod finally letting the tears youâd been holding all night cascade down your face. Mark is quick to pull into his chest, one arm around your waist pulling you in close, rubbing circles on your back. âShe hates me. I donât know why she canât see things from my point of view. Everyone but her is happy for us, sheâs my best friend and her opinion means the world to me. I mean she was my best friend.â you say in between sobs.Â
He continues to listen as you drone on about her not understanding your feelings under the soft glow of the fluorescent lights.Â
You were going to tell them, you did plan on saying goodbye but everything happened so fast. Mark had gotten offered the deal of a lifetime last week and asked you to move with him. Although it was sudden you couldnât imagine your life without him. And with the long list of things you had to get done before the move like; putting the apartment up for sale, handing in your notice at work, packing, passports, visas, you simply forgot to deliver the good news to your family and friends.Â
When you called your parents this morning they expressed their excitement seeing you going on this adventure, truthfully they were just happy youâre happy, they know just how much you and Mark love each other. The other girls, Jimin, Minjeong and Yizhuo were all happy for you even if you knew deep down they had the same reservations as Aeri. She was the only person who didnât seem to understand, or the only one not cowardly enough to say it out loud. Sheâll come around eventually, right?Â
After 15 minutes of effectively soaking your boyfriend's t-shirt he breaks the silence âcome onâ he starts as he cups your face softly in his hands wiping the last of the tears away, âlet's get you to bed, we still have a few things to do before our flight tomorrowâ. And with that you let him lead you to the bedroom thoughts of your friendship pushed to the back of your mind as the excitement and slight anxiety takes over.Â
â----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sunday morning, First day in Paris
Before you knew it you were in Paris, standing in the lobby of the infamous Ritz Carlton. The company had booked a 5 night stay for you both while the deal was being finalised. Mark went off to get your room key while you stood admiring the crystal chandelier hanging above you. It was mesmerising, dazzling, the main star, the sun, the other lights danced around. He was standing at the front desk a few steps away, the lights above him creating a spotlight on him. There he was, your crystal chandelier, your sun and you were his earth quietly, forever orbiting around him.Â
âHeyâ his voice snaps you out of your haze, âletâs head up stairs yeahâ he takes your hand in his, the sound of hurried footsteps and soft giggles are all that's left as you both disappear into the elevator.
Ding!
You come to a stop on the top floor, the Imperial suite. The view up here was stunning. Breathtaking. You felt like the luckiest girl in the world, every morning you would be waking up to two of the most beautiful views, the Eiffel tower and your boyfriend.Â
Thump. There it was, that feeling again, you had been feeling this pang in your heart, a sort of longing like something was missing. If you were being honest you had been feeling this since your talk with Aeri yesterday, more specifically after she left standing alone outside your apartment.Â
The faint sound of a phone ringing pulls you out of your thoughts, you watch your boyfriend talk to someone on the phone, probably his manager.Â
 âRight now?â
âNo, that's fine Iâll be there. Can you give me 20 minutes? I'll shower and meet you at the studio.â he hangs up the phone making his way towards you. He stands in front of you staring in your eyes, âIâm so sorry I know we said we would spend the day together before I got too busy. But I promise you Iâll be back before 7, weâre still on for dinner right beautiful?âÂ
Mhm. You hum in response planting a quick peck on his lips âdonât worry about me Iâll go shopping for our date tonight.âÂ
To be quite honest you were upset it hadnât even been 24 hours and he was already too busy for you. Who were you kidding, did you really think it would be different, Manhattan to Paris the only change was your address. Maybe he just had no more room in his life for you. No, it sounded urgent, probably something with the contract, a typo or something. Youâre a big girl, you can spend the day alone in the hotel room, or better yet go out and buy yourself a new dress for dinner tonight.Â
âBesides I think Iâll go out and check out the stores around the areaâ he gives you one last squeeze before letting go and making his way into the shower.Â
Tshhh
The sound of the shower water interrupts the quiet of the room, wishing the water could just wash away all your worries.
â----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Saturday night Â
Standing in front of the mirror admiring yourself in the strapless Versace dress you purchased earlier on. The sneaking suspicion that Mark wasnât going to make it home starts to creep up on you. He was always doing that, making plans with you and cancelling at the last minute, sometimes not even showing up and forgetting to call. You know how important his work is to him and how crazy his schedule can get sometimes. At the start of your relationship he made a point to always let you know if he was going to be late, sending flowers on the days he misses a date. But as time went on the flowers and calls started to slow down eventually coming to a stop. I mean you knew he didnât mean to, you didnât need gifts to know that he never meant to forget you, he never meant to keep you waiting.Â
The clock finally strikes seven and youâre sitting on the small couch at the end of the hallway, opposite the front door. Dazedly staring at the front door willing it to open, like a puppy waiting for its owner to return. Seven oâclock becomes eight, eight becomes nine, eventually it's Ten and you tire of waiting around so you decide to head to bed.Â
Itâs a quarter to Midnight when Mark returns, you spent the past thirty minutes tossing and turning, head full of questions, where could he be, was he alone, was he even thinking about you. He walks into the room, no he stumbles in knocking over a few perfume bottles that were on the dresser. You feign sleep, you're suddenly hit with the smell of alcohol. The bed dips next to you and soon enough you feel this lips on your cheeks, a quick bittersweet lingering kiss. The smell of alcohol is so overpowering you start to get dizzy. You feel a new emotion, not hurt, not disappointment, not hurt, but for the first time ever you were angry at him. While you were worried sick that he couldâve been somewhere out there lost in this foreign country where neither of you speak the language, or worse out dead in a ditch somewhere he was out drinking. Mark could be careless, inattentive, forgetful whatever you want to call it but never was he stupid.Â
â----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Monday morningÂ
The sun rose at 7 this morning, you hadnât slept at all last night, thoughts of what your future would look like if you decided to live here with him. Mark starts to stir in his sleep, finally waking up. He wraps his arms around your waist, pulling you towards his chest murmuring a quick âgood morning beautifulâ. When you donât respond he shifts slightly, lifting his head off the bed to get a good look at your face.Â
âBaby, hey Iâm sorry time just got away from me-â he starts, but you think it's pointless listening to the same speech youâve heard all these nights before. Mark was the best boyfriend a girl could ask for, that is when heâs not too consumed by his work. You see for him everything else would always come second to his love for music, and maybe one day you would be strong enough to handle that truth.Â
âDonât worry about it. I forgot myselfâ you interrupt him before he can finish, âYou have to get going, youâre going to be late for your important meeting.â you say albeit a bit too venomously for your liking, quickly sliding out of the bed and opting to sit by the window.Â
ây/nâ he starts but decides against it, instead deciding to give you your space.Â
At 8:30am you hear the door to your room close signalling Mark has left for the day. You guys barely spoke to each other at breakfast, a silent dance of tension. Every few minutes youâd shoot him a soft smile in an attempt to show him youâre not mad, or in an attempt to lie to yourself.Â
You had planned on going to see the cute cafes today while Mark was at his meeting, but after the events of last night you decide to stay in and wallow in self pity. Plus you have to console yourself before the dinner tonight with some music company executive that Mark kept droning on and on about on the flight over. You know this dinner is super important for his deal and no argument between the two will get in the way of that. So you swallow your hurt and anger, and decide to waste your time watching some random French drama.Â
â----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Monday nightÂ
At exactly 7pm Mark walks int through the front door. Of course heâs alwaysÂ
The happy couple, you walk hand in hand into the restaurant. Markâs manager greets you guys at the door, ushering you both to join the rest of the party inside.
âMark, I want you to meet Mr. Devonâ his manager announces pushing Mark towards the older gentlemen.Â
As he let go of your hand for what felt like the millionth time, your picture perfect dream was starting to crumble all around you. All the painful memories, all the nights he left you waiting around for him, all the times he put his work, friends, colleagues before you, all the broken promises and forgotten dates.. Yes, forgotten, like you had forgotten your friends like they were something to check off a to-do list. But at the end of the day, you couldnât blame him, not really, no. Mark, he was only chasing after what was important to him, and that wasnât you, not anymore.
With your head hung low, you quietly make your way to your seat.Â
Once Mark is done making the rounds saying his hellos, he takes his seat next to you, intertwining his fingers with yours. And as you stare aimlessly down at your interlocked fingers, you catch a glimpse of the classouses on his hands from hours and hours of strumming his guitar mindlessly while writing lyrics. It then becomes painfully obvious to you, you donât belong here, at least not with him, not now, it was time for you to let go, let him run as fast and far as he can, chasing after his dreams. Slowly removing your hand from his you plant a soft kiss on his cheek letting your lips linger for a second before you whisper your last words of the night to him âI love you, Iâm sorry for doing this to you tonight but I wish you the best Markâ. You walk out of the restaurant refusing to look back, too afraid that one look into his beautiful tear filled irises would make you crumble on the spot.Â
Au revoir mon amour, if the universe wills it surely weâll meet again.Â
(Note: Hi đđœ if youâve made it this far thank you so much for reading for first ever fic. I started writing this based on Carrie & Mirandaâs argument and then just let the story take me where ever. Iâm thinking of maybe giving it a part 2, what do you think?)

It's driving Eddie insane.
There's no fucking way the 2 things can be true. Either Steve stole Eddie's porn, his prized magazines full of hot boys covered in piercings, tattoos, and mouthwatering amounts of leather. Or... OR! Steve happens to own the same magazine. Eddie can't believe either thing is true. Maybe it was a prank? Some sick homo-mag that his basketball buddies slipped him some time... that he kept for over a year at least? Yeah. Sure, Munson.
"Soo... Beefcake?" Eddie leans over the counter at Family Video, making sure his tatted tits are on full view in front of Steve.
Steve lowers the paper he's reading. "Am I supposed to be Beefcake?"
Eddie plasters his world-famous shit-eating grin across his face, scooting slightly left so he chest is firmly in front of Steve's pretty eyes. "Only Beefcake I see regularly without some serious payment on my end."
Steve coughs in surprise. "Not taking the bait, Munson. What brings you in, anyway? Are you trying to get Rocky Horror again? I think someone besides you actually rented it this week."
"Really?" Eddie sighs, then perks up, remembering the real reason he was here. "No, uh, I wanted to ask..." His courage runs out halfway through his sentence.
Steve smiled softly at him, his cow eyes framed by those perfect eyelashes and... FOCUS MUNSON.
"I wanted to ask if you had read anything good recently? Maybe any good magazines?"
Steve raises an eyebrow. "Did Robin put you up to this? She said you freaked out after I left my porn out on my nightstand on accident when you slept over. Are you homophobic or something?"
Eddie practically loses his balance. "Steve- we- you- I'm-" He stumbles through forty different responses. "I'm not homophobic."
Steve shrugs. "Are you mad it had guys and girls in it? It's not the 70s anymore, Munson-"
"We own the same BDSM Leather Daddy magazine."
They stare at each other for a second.
Steve clears his throat. "Well, I was kind of hoping you'd have jock porn or something, but your type is your business."
"Why would you hope I had jock porn?"
There's a loud throat-clearing noise from the break room, Robin peaking her head out. "Can you two take your horrible flirting somewhere else? I'm getting traumatized over here."
"Sorry, Rob." They mumble in unison.
"Thank you." She says, before spinning away in her chair.
Steve leans in and whispers. "I was hoping you had jock porn because then all the times you bent over the counter and shoved your tits in my face would make sense."

Warnings: incest
Notes: So, this chapter has a sex scene right at the beginning, but I won't post that because I have some shame. However, here is the link if you wanna read it.
As a child, Sarah used to sneak into Rafe's room. Ever since she learnt how to walk. She slept better in his bed. In his arms. She did that for years. Her mother thought it was cute. Ward not so much. And now she was doing it again.
Memories of what went down last night assaulted her when she awoke. There was a soreness between her legs, from what happened last night. Because of what she did. What Rafe did. What they did together.Â
She should feel terrible about it. That was a lot of moral barriers crossed in one night. But Sarah didn't really care. It didn't feel wrong. It felt right.
"Morning" Rafe mumbled sleepy, stirring behind her. He tensed, probably remembering what happened last night. What he did "Fuck. Sarah, I'mâ"
"I love you" a confession finally said out loud "Like a sister, but not only like a sister" she gulped "Do youâ"
"Yes" his arms tightened around her waist "I love you. I have for a while"
"How long?"
"I think I always... romantically, at least since I was seventeen. I think, it gets blurry"
Because of the alcohol and the drugs. He didn't need to say that out loud, she knew. Seventeen. That would make her fourteen. That was the summer he started drifting away from her.Â
Pieces and places.
"What do we do now? With this. With us"
Rafe kissed her neck, one time, two times, three times. Sarah giggled.
"Ideally? Live our lives together. Keep it a secret"
"Is that what you want?"
It was what Sarah wanted, but if he didn't...
"We'll figure it out"Â
Would they? How can they figure out something? Committing incest was a crime. But it was true, that so long as they had enough money they could avoid the possibility of going to prison for it. But it would be Rafe who would face the possibility of prison. And that thought terrified her.
"Yeah. I should get ready for school" immediately, Rafe let go of her. It made her feel sad. The loss of his arms around her "I'm going to the shower" she sat in bed, hugging the sheets to her body "Can you pass me my shirt?"
Rafe didn't have the same shame as her, apparently, because he didn't seem bothered as he walked around the room. He threw her the shirt with a smirk. She grabbed it, her face burning at his nakedness and her own.
"I already saw you naked, don't know why you're so shy now"
"Shut up"Â
Sarah put on her oversized shirt and grabbed her bikini on the way to her room. Maybe she needed to leave some of her clothes there. No, no, he was going to change rooms. She could leave clothes in the wardrobe of the new room.
"Sarah?" She froze. Wheezie was looking at her with her mouth open and her eyes, for once, not on her phone "Are you naked? What the fuck?!"
"I have to shower" she pretty much ran to her room, ignoring Wheezie's shouts and the pain she felt.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
Wheezie knew. Wheezie saw. She would figure it out. And what would happen then? Her sister wouldn't tell on them, or at least she didn't think so. But what would she think of them? Would she hate them? Be disgusted by them?
Probably. We are sick and twisted.
Sarah took a quick shower, scrubbing the dried blood on her inner thighs. She had bled. Shouldn't be too surprising, it did hurt at first. But she didn't have time to dwell on that. No, time was running out. She needed to talk to Wheezie and then she had to go to school.
As she brushed her hair in front of the mirror, her gaze fell on the bite mark that decorated her neck. Fuck. She needed to hide that. Why couldn't the day be cold? If it was cold her clothes would hide it. And no one would question her for wearing a scarf.Â
No scarf now, but a ribbon could do. She had a couple of ribbons wide enough to cover the bite mark, and mixed with a little makeup, the mark was pretty much invisible. She hoped, at least.
It took her a couple of deep breaths and a lot of convincing herself to actually go downstairs. To face her little sister, if she was there. And she was in the kitchen, sitting on one of the stools at the table. Rafe was there too, silently eating cereal. He smiled when he saw her.
"Wow, you guys are so gross" Wheezie commented lightly. And it was that, a teasing tone, not a judgemental one. Like a kid who sees her parents kissing and thinks it's disgusting "Stop it"
"We haven't done anything"
Wheezie glared at her.
"You two have fucked, which is super gross, but it's not that"
"You don't mind?"
She shrugged "It's you two. I'm not surprised. You have always been attached by the hip, for as long as I can remember. Then you had two bad years and now you're back and more obsessed with each other than ever. I don't care, guys, just don't kiss or anything in front of me"
"Done" Rafe finished his cereal just as Sarah sat at the table, grimacing at the action. She was so fucking sore. Thankfully, Wheezie didn't notice "When did you get back anyway?"
"I don't know. Before two in the morning for sure"
"Please tell me you didn't walk back home alone"
"Nothing ever happens around here, besides I always carry the pepper spray and taser that Rose gave me. You don't?"
"I don't go to places completely alone" Sarah sighed and took a bite of her toast "Why didn't you stay at Sandra's?"
"Ugh. Her boyfriend dropped by and she pretty much kicked us out. So rude"
"That is rude" Rafe agreed with a nod. He checked the kitchen's clock before standing up "Hurry up, we have to go"
They dropped Wheezie at school first and made her swear she would never tell anyone about them. Her sister seemed to understand the importance of keeping quiet, so she agreed.
"You know, we could go to the beach later" Rafe commented, trying to sound casual. She knew him better than that "Like, just the two of us"
Sarah smiled "Are you asking me out on a date?"
"Maybe I am"
"Well, then, maybe I would like that"
Sarah looked through the car window, biting her lower lip, her face flushed. They reached the high school too soon, in her opinion. She couldn't wait until it was over and she could spend all of her time with her family and friends. There were some doubts in her mind, about going to college. Rafe didn't know yet, but she'll tell him.
"See you later" Sarah leaned forward and pressed a kiss on his cheek before leaving the car.
"You two sure are close now" You have no idea. Kie pretty much dragged her inside, because Sarah was having trouble walking fast "What happened to you? Why are you walking so weirdly?"
Oh, fuck.
"I fell" yeah, that was a good excuse. A believable one "So I can't really walk at your pace"
"Oh, sorry" her friend apologized "What's with the ribbon?"
Her fingers touched the lace of the ribbon. It was pink.
"I was watching Buffy, and it gave me some fashion ideas"
Her mother used to love that show. They watched it together when she was a child.
"It looks cool. Suits you"
"Thanks"
Sarah looked at the building, dreading already all the hours she would have to spend sitting on a hard, cold chair.

Pope had never expected to befriend Sarah Cameron, much less Rafe. If whatever truce they had could be called 'friendship'. But there he was, spending at least one day a week in Tannyhill. Drinking Rafe's whiskey (he did it once and is never doing it again) and eating his food. Swimming in his pool.
He had been hesitant at first, in believing Rafe was actually sorry. That he was actually trying to change. But it seemed like he really meant it. And that was why he had gone to Tannyhill when his father received a letter. A threatening letter. He'd gone to Tannyhill because of all people he knew, Rafe was the only one who was really dangerous. And because somehow, in the past few months, Tannyhill became a place of reunion for the Pogues. They were all there.
"So, this guy wants a key, what key?" John B questioned out loud after reading his letter "It literally just says 'the key'"
"It's not very descriptive" JJ agreed "What did your dad say?"
"That he has no idea what that means" he grabbed the letter "But check this out, look at the name. C. Limbrey, doesn't it ring a bell?"
He could tell by everyone's face that it did, in fact, not rang any bells. Pope sighed.
"The captain of the Royal Merchant was a Limbrey. So, I think this has something to do with the gold"
"We know a Limbrey" Sarah commented lightly. She was sitting on her couch, a blanket over her legs and a ribbon around her neck. She was walking weird that day. She fell, or so she said. Pope didn't know what to make of it "Charlotte? I don't actually remember her name. I was like eight last time she came around"
"Carla" Rafe placed the empty glass, previously filled with whiskey, over the table "Her name's Carla. She was a cousin of our mother"
"So...you guys are Limbreys?" Kie raised her eyebrows to remark her words.
"We are Redfields" Sarah's voice was clear and precise, probably bothered by the comment somehow. Then again, he would be bothered too if someone told him he came from a family of slavers "But our maternal grandmother was a Limbrey. So, Carla is our first cousin once removed. Which means we can help you, Pope"
"Yeah, we'll call her. See what she wants"
"Would she tell you?"
Rafe shrugged "Don't know. She was close to our mother, but didn't really show up after her death. But for what I heard she is dying, been so for years"
"That is a good excuse to not show up, actually" JJ took a fistfull of chips and swallowed them. He was a messy eater "What can she do to you, anyway? We're rich now"
"Yeah. We're kooks now"
"We're new money, she's old money. She has connections we don't. Not to mention she practically owns Charleston" he explained a little exasperated.
"Thank God we don't live in Charleston"
Rafe grabbed his phone, previously left by the empty glass, and dialed a number. Pope felt anxiety moving to his heart. It was always in his body, but sometimes it was still and did nothing. Others, it moved.
"What are you doing?!"
"Calling her" he could practically the 'duh' in his voice.
"You have her number?" Sarah asked surprised, because apparently that was something important.
"So, are we gonna threaten her or..." Pope glared at JJ.
"We are not going to threaten her" John B said as if he hadn't had worst ideas. Then, he looked around "Right?"
"I'm just saying, we have guns and we are not dying. So maybe she should be scared of us and not the other way around"
Rafe rolled his eyes, and honestly he could relate to that.
"Hey, Carla. This is Rafe Cameron, yes, Bessie's son. I was wondering if you could come over to Tannyhill, to discuss something important. Business plans. I have a lot of money now, as I'm sure you know" Carla had to say something that he didn't like, because his eyes went empty and cold. That did not help his anxiety "Yeah, so sad. Poor dad. Anyway, when are you free to meet me? Tomorrow? Good. See you tomorrow, Carla"
He hang up the phone, his empty eyes only filling up with life again when they fell on Sarah. He sat by her side, their shoulders touching. It was weird. Pope didn't have any siblings, but he was pretty sure they usually didn't act the way Rafe and Sarah did.
There was something he wasn't catching.
"Dude" only by those words he could tell JJ was about to say something insensitive "You really fucking hate your dad, huh? Not judging you or anything, it's just that I have never met anyone who hates their parents so much"
"Yeah, well, he's a piece of shit"
Something sad shone in JJ's blue eyes, a clearer shade than Rafe's. Pope felt the urge to hug him.
"Happens"
"It does" Rafe's fell over Sarah's thigh, squeezing lightly. Pope didn't think anyone other than him noticed that.
He didn't know what to make of it.
