i’ve hit my limit on dealing w capitalism today. it’s my birthday, and every single year i get the whipped frosting that they have at grocery store bakeries. and every single place we tried to buy it was like “oh sorry we don’t sell that by itself, we can only sell it on a cake.” like yes but it’s in a 5 gallon bucket 3 feet away
#it makes me want to live in the south forever#bc i’ve living in the south all of my life and every single year for the past 8 years we’ve gotten that exact frosting from a grocery store#all of which do not formally sell it#but at every company at every location we’ve gotten it before the employees have rung it up somehow and given it to us#but this is my first birthday not in the southern US#and everyone was just like sorry we don’t sell it. full stop.#and i’m trying to be so understanding about people not getting in trouble at their jobs or whatever#bc i had a moment of being like ‘well what makes me feel like i deserve special treatment’ but wtf it’s not special treatment#people should just be willing to help each other out#but like god. i used to scan every coupon we had for every customer when i worked retail#and i would slip stuff into their bags without scanning it#say what you will but american individualism is stronger in the north than the south#textpost
