Had the morbid idea of Dante and Kat going through Vergil's stuff (either whatever was left at his apartment, or whatever they stole from police evidence lockup, or whatever was left in Vergil's little safe house- probably some combo of all of the above) and selling whatever they can. And it hurts, because on the one hand, yeah, these were Vergil's clothes and books and stuff, all that they have left of someone they cared about... but also the man owns a pair of boots that are worth more money than Kat (and maybe even Dante- depends on how good the mercenary work was) has ever even seen at one time, much less actually HAD. Idk, just.
Mourners make poor grave robbers, I guess.
Honestly in my headcanons and fanon, Vergil's penthouse was located on the Order's complex so he wouldn't have to be away from it (also good excuse for some of the building and renovations happening) and it, like the rest of the Order, falls to the ruin of like much of central Limbo City after the whole Limbo collapsing thing so there's not much to find and sell. I'm not sure how much else would have survived the collapse, at least if it was close to the center.
An extension of that to like with my take on canon, Kat and Vergil are way too codependent asdfghjk she would fight tooth and nail over whatever scraps they'd get and she'd be nasty about it. I might be projecting a bit to of how I deal with grief in which I have a lot of trouble letting go of things, even dumb things.
But it is a sad thought I agree. It's always rough going through a loved ones belongings and trying to sort out what you want to keep and what you don't and what's better off sold because it's worth too much money and you can use the cash. Mourners do make poor grave robbers.
