RP'ing with L 101

Consider this the sequel to RP'ing with Damon 101 for a few OOC things.

So, this is more of heads-up than anything. It's not meant to sound pretentious or critical; I'm only trying to be up-front here so you all know what you're getting into when roleplaying with me.

This post is kind of a place to gather my roleplaying pet peeves and things that will make me highly likely to drop a thread, unfollow, or not interact with/follow you in the first place.

If you have Johnny Depp listed as a banned FC but NOT Amber Heard, I automatically do not trust you and do not want to write with you.

God-modding, metagaming, or killing off my muse without discussing it beforehand (and yes, this is a form of godmodding). Furthermore, having your muse be overpowered to the point they’re a God-Mode Sue when there is no reason for said muse to be that powerful in canon AND/OR blatantly twisting Charmed canon when it comes to your muse’s abilities/species and how they work, to the point it obliterates willing suspension of disbelief to anyone else in the fandom is going to make me personally not want to write with you.

Your supernatural muse using their powers on Damon without discussing it OOC beforehand. (This falls under godmodding.)

If you are under the age of 18 but state you're okay with writing sex scenes and NC-17 gore. Nope. Do not pass "Go" to collect $200. It doesn't matter if you put it under a read-more and tag it; it is illegal under USA law for an adult (18+) to write sexual scenes with a minor or expose a minor to that kind of content (regardless of the ages of the fictional characters). If you are under the age of consent, you cannot legally write R-rated material with an adult roleplayer. And if you lie about your age solely to write sexytimes with my muse, then I will be the one held legally responsible and potentially face jail time, never mind that I did not know you were underage.

You don't cut your posts. I'm okay with scrolling past three or four replies to the same thread, but 10 - 20? Every single interaction of the roleplay for several notes thus far? Nope, I'm out of there.

Frequent posts about deleting your blog / self-harm / suicide / how nobody is writing with you, usw. More often than not, this is just a means of gathering attention, as I have seen people post things like this and then be online writing a few hours later like nothing happened. I am not your therapist, and I am not here for you to trauma-dump on. I will listen if we are mutuals that have been writing for a while, but do not ask me for advice. That is nowhere near my profession. I've also had an ex-mutual do this to me and other writing partners in the past, and I do not want to be in that situation again.

If you frequently post callouts or publicly engage in OOC drama, I am definitely not going to follow/interact with you. I have been on the receiving end of this from an ex-mutual, the call-out was complete bullshit, and when I did post a brief thing simply saying that I'd noticed it and my followers could come to their own conclusions, I was immediately sent harassment anons by this ex-mutual's friends. I refuse to go through that again.

For that matter, if you interact with magicrested and her clique, I am not going to write with you due to bad experiences with that group in the past, and I do not want to see any mention of them on my dashboard. (Yes, even with the Xkit blacklist.)

You frequently send me asks I have no idea how to respond to like "hi", " *waves* ", or "Do you want to rp?". I'm a roleplay blog; that's why I'm here. If you really want your muse to interact with mine, then send an in-character ask or write a starter and tag me in it. I promise, I don't bite (but Damon might). My tag is a nice place to be, honest.

I am not a fast roleplayer in churning out replies. Pestering me about thread replies is one of the quickest ways for me to drop you as a journal roleplay partner.

You state you're a roleplay blog but do not have a rules & bio/about page or link to a Google Doc/Carrd with information about your muse. If we are going to write together, I have to know something about your character and your own boundaries for writing / interacting. I get having a blog under construction, believe, me, I do, but you have to give potential roleplay partners something to go on.

You think fiction affects reality on a 1:1 ratio or think that a writer writing fucked-up situations for their character (or writing a fucked-up character in general who Does Bad ThingsTM) means the person behind the blog condones and endorses the thing IRL. That is 100% Anti rhetoric and a major red flag for me, especially if the character in question is a villain. It's also thinking that is absolutely, 200% steeped in evangelical Christianity, and being some form of marginalized in society IRL does not give you an excuse for being an asshole to real people over fictional characters.

Some other, quick things:

I am back to using the citrus scale to get around Tumblr’s NSFW ban, so any posts involving written smut will be tagged with #lemon cw. I use the tag #usfw for visual content.

why did you choose your url? I was looking for something that wasn't related to my previous fandom identities, for various reasons, and this comes from a song by my absolute favourite band in the world, Hanoi Rocks; the full lyric is make no compromise, have no regrets and I've rather taken it as words to live by.

any side blogs? if you have them, name them and why you have them Nope - I had one for posting photos and one for my music writing, and neither of them really ever got off the ground. I can't remember if I deleted them or they're still out there somewhere (they were connected to a second account that I never bother signing into).

how long have you been on tumblr? Since about March 2011.

do you have a queue tag? Nope. Almost everything I post is queued, so I don't really see the point.

why did you start your blog in the first place? Most of my fandom friends were shifting over here from LJ and I wanted to stay in touch although the fandom I knew most of them from was in its final death throes at the time.

why did you choose your icon/pfp? I needed something and I'd been using it for my old fic archive on Dreamwidth - I rather like angels, and wings, and I'd found this pic on a random google image search. I've had the same icon the whole ten years I've been here, because I've never been bothered enough to change it, and I don't have any I want to change it to...and I have the graphical skills of a peanut so I've never had the impetus to make one. I suppose I could go looking for one, but I'm actually not that bothered. I kind of forget it's there.

why did you choose your header? I wanted something pretty and Tolkien-movies-related, and I was writing about the White Gems of Lasgalen in Empty Vessel at the time, so I went and found that one.

what's your post with the most notes? I did one of those things that tells you this earlier this year, and it's an old before-and-after unfuckyourhabitat photo post which has about 80 notes. I don't really make original posts, except this sort of thing and fic announcements, and those never get reblogged because they don't show up in the tags because they have links in, what the actual fuck tumblr you are so dysfunctional.

how many mutuals do you have? I have no idea, and I don't know how to find out. Probably about...I dunno, 50?

how many followers do you have? 278 last time I looked. About 50-100 of those are defunct blogs from people who've left but not deactivated.

how many people do you follow? 221. Again, there are quite a few defunct ones on there, and one of these days I'll have a clearout.

have you ever made a shitpost? No, my brain doesn't work that way. And even if it did, I'd probably just smile at the thought and move on; I'm not in the habit of committing my every thought to the internet.

how often do you use tumblr each day? I'm in and out all day if I'm not working or I'm working at home, otherwise I'm in first thing and last thing if I'm working on site. I don't have the app because it does my head in and eats my phone battery and data - I much prefer the browser interface because I can't cope with the site without XKit and blacklists.

did you have a fight/argument with another blog once? did you win? No, I can't be arsed with all that. I did once (very early on) get someone calling me elitist for daring to suggest that historic documents should be cared for in an archive where they could be preserved and accessed by researchers, rather than kept in private hands where nobody can see them, but that's the internet for you.

how do you feel about "you need to reblog this" posts? I don't need to reblog them. I'm here for escapism and I get my news elsewhere. As a general rule, reblogging a post on Tumblr doesn't do a fat lot for the cause concerned.

I am a relatively slow writer and I work full-time, but I’ve been looking for a way to write in community. This will definitely be a priority for me! So I’d say my availability will be at least 6/10. What made you choose this character?:

Orla caught my interest because of her many contradictions. I really love the idea of a character who is so set on a goal, but has increasing doubts about it. Who is she when the goal is done? If the goal is never accomplished? Right now, in the middle of striving for it? She allows herself so little, but that’s unsustainable (even if she’s been at it her whole life). That’s great ground for a growth arc.

She’s definitely going to be haunted by a lot of her father’s behavior, and have some unprocessed feelings about whether his torment was self-inflicted, or even merited. Due to her father’s disgrace, she has lived 600 years in a place she was taught not to call home, while her “real” home remains out of reach. Now, she’s in a Clan where family means very little, but it’s her driving value! I’m also excited to write all the little clashes and complements that come out of her taste for the fancy things of nobility and her more rugged, battle-ready life in the Wildlands.

Her goal might be to return to the Seelie court in favor, but her loyalty is not to the Seelie court — it’s to her family, and her late father. Add in the recent rocky reputation of good Queen Mab and the fact that the Wolf Clan allied with the Unseelie in the war, and Orla could really ally with anyone.

I also love the slight parallel between her and Luna Crow, made all the better for the blackmail dynamic between them. Both are pretending to be someone they’re not, and living in realities they only tentatively accept. I saw that Luna isn’t taken right now, but that’s still an exciting direction for the future!

Her aesthetic also really interested me. In keeping with some of the advice I read in a blitz of rp-101 articles, I’ve started a pinterest board and playlist for inspiration. Links here :)

Do you have any more resources available or examples of gif chatting?

What if I can’t find a lot of gifs/images of my face claim?

Do you recommend looking through other characters’ blogs to get a sense of how people start and continue plot threads? That seems really intimidating to me! Also, I don’t exactly know the ins and outs of reblogging and replying. But I’ll get there.

If I say something in my para that isn’t true (contradicted by earlier things) or not super convenient to future storytelling, will somebody tell me, and will I be able to edit it?

If my application is accepted, should I wait until the current event is over to kind of leap in? Starting cold intimidates me too. Are there any guidelines, recommendations, or examples for a starter?

Is it common practice for people in this rp to plot or worldbuild together?  I guess I’m trying to gauge the degree to which people prefer to plan out a detail or respond to it directly in the text. I’m sure it depends on personal preference, timing, and the importance of the detail too.

Is it okay to create random NPC characters to facilitate scenes in (self)paras? I’ve seen people mention unnamed guards etc., but what about recurring minor named characters?

I’ve seen xkit around a lot. Do you recommend that?

Orla ran a hand over the braids coiled at her neck, fingers catching on jeweled pins. One came loose. She turned it over in her palm — a silver branch twined around sapphires and diamonds. In the dim light of the carriage, its glittering gems seemed to laugh at her misfortune. Once again, she’d left the Seelie court with little more than petty gossip to show for it. No matter. She would return.

The carriage pitched on the cobblestones, growing uneven as they left Wisteria behind. Orla watched the gold arches and shimmering lanterns give way to thorn thickets and thin creeks at the edge of the Wildlands. Soon, these too would vanish, replaced by mountains, rolling mist, and ever-taller pines.

Until then, Orla was left to dwell on the city she was promised.

Orla passed the silver pin wordlessly to Sionnach, who sprawled beside her in comfortable silence. Sionnach slipped the pin into a leather pouch. She would know its proper place in Orla’s room, and see that it returned there.

“I will be late to the fires tonight,” Orla said.

“Of course,” Sionnach replied, but raised a brow. “I hope not too late. Your sparring partners need to keep their skills sharp.”

“Not too late,” Orla agreed.

“Good. You promised me a spar, remember.” Sionnach grinned. “And it will get less and less friendly the more you keep me waiting.”

Orla pressed her lips to avoid smiling.

“I’ll be there when you’re warmed up. You’ll need it.”

In the Wildlands, Orla disembarked from the carriage. If she were a mortal, or simply less attuned to the subtle cues exchanged between a warrior’s body and environment, the slim points of her shoes might have sunk into the earth, unbalancing her. Instead, she allowed a moment to savor the way the ground met her weight — with just enough give to ensure it could push back.

Sionnach followed. She tossed a handful of honey-braised carrots to the harnessed elk at the carriage head. She laughed as they nosed the matted grass and pine needles, and patted their necks. In Wisteria, Orla had pretended not to notice Sionnach pocketing food from the feast table while the nobles tittered and scoffed away. Gossip and carrots. Those were her spoils.

Within the round walls of her tent, Orla exchanged her court garb for sparring leathers and sat at her desk. Her eyes fell on the stack of books in its center. The spines were mismatched: one of green leather and another of brushed grey suede; still others wrapped in birchbark, woven reeds, and the stretched, pebbled skin of an unknown reptile. The casual looker would never guess they were all penned by the same author, which suited their purpose. Their one unifying mark had long since faded, but if Orla touched the spines, her fingers could still find the depressions of the name. In the right light — one candle, lit across the room, or the moon as it set — tiny flecks told of a time when the name was written in full gold leaf.

A name she hadn’t spoken aloud in quite some time.

That wouldn’t change today. She pulled out the journal bound in grey suede and thumbed the pages, skimming for the names of the nobles she had seen at court. Though the script itself was neat, reading it was no small act. Text filled a page and even turned the corner to fill it crosswise. Arrows arched between names and fell on diagrams and symbols. It got worse as the text went on. Some of the last  journals, Orla could barely stand to touch. She hated the ache in her chest they produced.

There. The names she was looking for. In the margins Orla wrote down all the details she remembered, even the most frustrating and inane. Lord so-and-so wore a waistcoat with abalone buttons, possibly sourced from that contentious new colony. Lady such-and-such laughed at a tasteless joke and stood guard by the pomegranate puff pastries all night.

She wrote until she ran out of white space. Just as well. Orla closed the book, and then her eyes. These fae were welcomed to city life, taking the parties and pastries as facts of life — things that were owed to them, by name, birth, and the guilelessness that kept them from ever hearing whispers of treason, let alone mustering the will to whisper it themselves.

She slipped the book between its neighbors and went in search of a weapon to suit her mood. Something heavy, tonight. Blunt. Court had soured her appetite for delicacy and grace.

One day, these journals and parties would amount to something. Everything would change.

Until then, the fires were lit, and Sionnach was waiting.

Ya’ll, Tumblr is pissing me off because the update is affecting the formatting of the surveys. Some were just spacing issues, which were annoying, but fixable. However, this one I did on Google Docs because when I tried pasting it here to take, it showed up as just one big chunk of text--no spacing at all. It was a mess and I don’t have the energy to fix that. *EDIT* GRRR, so pasting it from Google docs to here messed up the spacing and formatting, so I’ll have to fix that. Hopefully, it shows up fine on your guys’ end. But this is going to be SUPER annoying if I have to do this with every survey. My survey taking will definitely slow down if that’s the case.

frankly speaking, lunya has pets, and theyve very politely adopted raha.

theres her dog, buko (who is immortal because i said so) who raha secretly spoils rotten when lunyas not looking and who sleeps on rahas feet at night and then wails whenever he moves! 

theres also lunyas carbuncle, ruruby...........who acts more of a pet than an aetherial construct so thats what we’re calling her! ruruby is equally as loyal to raha as she is to lunya, because lunya Said So, and she will do everything from loafing on raha in her mount-size so hes forced to nap, to delivering papers from the door of the crystal tower to raha and lunyas room!

lunyas amaro, cethleann, is their joint pet! kind of!! shes not a lalafell-sized amaro but a Jumbo One and lunya and raha like to fly her around lakeland!!

...lunya also has her chocobo, her pegasus, and one suspiciously large sheep but she wont share them with him.

many, many books for starters. lunya probably gets a whole workroom for her crafting with an entire wall of fabric bolts, and theres at least four different baskets of yarn and knitting needles tucked away somewhere. there’d also be the hoard of tacky and over the top keepsakes lunyas gathered over time and brought home to raha to look at. theres almost certainly important paperwork beneath a namazu bobblehead or three, and little stray accessories that are normally pinned to rahas robes but probably got lost at some point!

rahas always been someone who goes on longwinded passionate tangents about anything and lunya will come to a complete stop at whatever shes doing to listen to him ;w; she could always multitask but she always gives him her fullest attention when she can, which hes always been grateful for!!

kotone was in doma for the bulk of stormblood all the way until 4.3, and when she finally returned to eorzea after the prisoner exchange it was right on time for the soul-snatching to start. once lunya left to fuck around on the first with balefire, things quieted down on the garlean front and kotone and lios finally got the time to talk about their feelings and if there was room for each other in their futures (because at the end of it all, kotone just wants to be home in doma, and lios didnt know if he wanted to stay in gyr abania yet!)

the thing is if you asked literally any of the scions, they would tell you they thought the two were already dating all the way back in heavensward, especially since lios turned into a lovesick, yearning lost puppy once kotone left for the far east at the start of stormblood.

nope! honestly lios and kotone would combust before they could even think of using a petname for the other. kotone isnt even brave enough to call him lios still sndfnsdsfdn she's just dropped the -san from his name. 

lios isnt the kind of guy who gives nicknames, and the fact that no one else has any for kotone wouldnt help either. the only thing close to one would be her sister calling her “koto-neechan,” which is just because its a pun.

3. how did the relationship start?

heart and kebbe were together first! it was a very casual friends with smooching benefits thing from the start of arr to...               Some Point, when eventually they realized that they had something a bit stronger than friendship. 

lunya was the one who introduced heart to ranaa, and they definitely had a connection from the start but it took a while for ranaa to start dating heart because hearts always busy with wol stuff and she’d have to talk to kebbe about it! but their relationship is open.         for more catgirls.

Attention - The New Code Word!

Guys, 

I just finished replacing my n-sfw & yaoi tags on all of my posts (I mean, XKit did that with the Tag Replacer extension. Thanks XKit). 

I’m using the sakura emoji 🌸 instead of using the n-sfw & yaoi tags.

Why this emoji? Because I love sakura, it makes me feel calm. 

I thought about using any of those emojis at first - ♋, 🍆 or 💀, but they’re too obvious so nope. 

I only replaced the tag. The word n-sfw is still written on the actual posts. It’s a hassle starting to change all of those too. They said written stuff is ok, right? So hopefully, if they start deleting/banning posts - it’s based on the tags only and not what’s written on the posts (so hopefully most of my blcd snippets posts are safe? At least those without n-sfw-ish manga scans on them).

But obviously some posts have videos, photos and gifs that are n-sfw, so I can do nothing about those. Even if I deleted the n-sfw tag - they might still ban the post based on the videos/photos/gifs. :/ 

As I said, I didn’t delete the ‘bad’ words on my actual posts, only changed the tags. But I think that on my future posts - I won’t use any of those words as text in first place, only use 🌸.

It’s depressing as hell that yaoi and blcd (among others) don’t show up on the tags anymore. Which means that if I use the blcd tag for example, only my followers will see it, but no one else since it’s not on the tag (because there is no tag). ;_____;

So just remember, when you see this 🌸 tag - that means the post is n-sfw.

Sorry, to my Solavellan friends. I love you. I truly do.... it’s just I don’t get it. I mean, I do but I don’t. To some degree, if you make Alistair king and choose to either not be his queen or have a Warden who can’t possibly become queen, it ends in heartbreak and I do still love Alistair... but Solavellan just seems so much worse somehow. 

Like, with Alistair, it is literally because you put him in that position by choosing to make him the King of Ferelden. It isn’t something he wanted to see happen but it did. 

Solavellaners, on the other hand, had literally zero choice in the matter. That relationship doesn’t work out no matter what and that, to me, is tragic and I feel like the Solavellan crowd got shafted. Hard.

2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?Not really... the only one that immediately came to mind is one I don’t even BroTP and that will be discussed later in the NoTP section. 3. It is not a common occurrence though because I typically keep my DA circle to a fairly small, usually respectful group of people. Yesterday was an anomaly. I can’t even remember the last time... but I am pretty sure it was over the exact same BS.

5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?No. I keep my circle tight and fairly closed and no longer let others govern how I should feel about certain pairings. 

It got close with Cullen x Trevelyan but that was when I pulled back, unfollowed a whole slew of people, and closed up how liberal I was with what I paid attention to. Also, xkit on the website (once I found out about it) and when tumblr gave the update with the option of blacklisting tags on my phone saved me from hell. I haven’t had a problem since about 4 months (or so) into my Tumblr experience.

(Asking this because I saw your Twitter post about it while looking to see if anyone besides me was having this issue) Is Tumblr still showing a blank/nonloading page for tracked tags, or did they fix it?

Nope, still doing it. This is what it looks like for every one of my tracked tags.

However, I can still see the posts if I use /search/[tag]/recent so they’re not completely missing.

I’m on the xkit support discord and a couple of other people said they’re experiencing the same thing, so I don’t know if we’re just unlucky or if tumblr is doing an update in phases and it’s only affecting certain accounts for now. I logged into another account and the tags worked fine, so it’s probably just an annoying glitch.

remember when they said they were talking with the people now taking care of xkit? well guess that threw everything about the add on out of the window because YIKES. Looking at my tracked tags is a messy hassle. I cannot even see if there are new posts, that’s why I track the tag tumblr..not to on a whim check in every day and hope someone posted someone...what’s the point of tracking tags if I can’t see if there is new content...

also the search bar is in an odd place and it really really bothers me haha, I’m afraid to actually look around tumblr now because after spending 10 minutes trying to find the revert to old dashboard button I just wanna close the window and pray this will be optional.

Okay. I was chill earlier. I thought just blocking the staff picks would be fine by pasting the line mentioned in a previous post of mine in your adblocker of choice. You know what they fucking did? They fucking OVERWROTE the newest post slot with theirs. I just now noticed when my partner reblogged something for me and it didn’t show. Looking at their blog it was clearly there, but my feed said nope. So I asked them, because my feed is kinda slow, to reblog something else because i suspected this was, in fact, what was happening and sure enough, the new post is nowhere to be seen, but now the older one shows. This means staff is literally HOGGING A SPOT ON YOUR DASH and willfully delaying content to you just so you look at what they advertise. Imagine being so up your own ass that you are like ‘nope. our opinion is more important. we know better what you want to see than yourself. LOOK AT WE LIKE.’ Now we can only hope Xkit finds a way to push the suggested post aside without also blocking said slot. Until then, fuck you, whoever decided this was a good idea. I hope you step on a thumbtack.
