Address by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the Day of Ukrainian Statehood
Tumblr media
youtube
On July 8, a Russian missile struck Kyiv. A direct hit.
The Kh-101 cruise missile.
It was designed to hit significant military targets. Putin hit a children's hospital with it.
“Okhmatdyt.”
One of hundreds of Ukrainian hospitals that have been, unfortunately, destroyed by Russian missiles, bombs, artillery.
From “Okhmatdyt,” the world saw thousands of photos and videos. Of what happened. And how Ukrainians united.
They saw how Ukraine is being targeted for destruction. And how, despite everything, Ukraine withstands the attacks.
How it unites the world to protect life. And how the world is inspired by what Ukraine achieves.
Here, as in thousands of similar places, Ukraine has shown itself to be the nation we are all proud of.
The nation we fight for.
Which is pure in heart and strongest when we all care for each other and when we see each other as our own.
And when we all are not afraid to defend Ukraine.
This is the Ukraine that has been preserving itself through the centuries – no matter what happens.
And no matter what invaders come to our land, Ukraine always finds the strength not only to endure but also to preserve within itself what separates us from evil.
Dear Ukrainians!
We are fighting against a terrible enemy. One that cannot be called human. And one that is infinitely far from true Christianity.
Its essence is ruins. The death it brings. And which we must overcome.
Ukraine cannot agree to anything less than to live. Anything less than to preserve itself. Anything less than to remain human.
Ukraine will not succumb to the evil that sheds blood for its own sick self-assertion. That despises truth, both human and divine, and devalues everyone except itself.
Russia builds its statehood precisely on this.
But we are different.
The history of Ukrainians on this land goes back more than a thousand years.
And no matter what strangers came here, no matter who did everything to prevent Ukraine from being itself, they did not break our people and the spirit of this land. They did not break what makes us Ukraine.
I want to thank everyone who came to “Okhmatdyt” after this strike. And everyone who rescues people after each similar crime by Russia.
To all who helped clear the rubble. Who acted to save children. And to everyone who empathized. Who told the world what was happening.
And I thank everyone in the world who did not stay silent and who seeks solutions to support our defense of life. Who helps our air defense, who supports our soldiers with weapons, who ensures pressure on Russiafor all its evil.
And who does so every time it is necessary to prove that life is stronger than its enemy.
Ukrainians!
I thank you for being true to yourselves, to our goal, to our state.
To our values, which will undoubtedly endure, as they are already rooted in centuries.
They have their roots in Kyivan Rus, continuation in the Cossack state, and their living force today – the force of Ukraine, which is doing the greatest and most important things in its history.
This is Ukraine, which not only defends itself but also unites many others in the defense of life.
Which is proud of its people, and whose heroism is honored by the world.
This is Ukraine, whose flag – our cherished blue and yellow colors – is welcome wherever courage is truly valued. And our trident – our majestic emblem inherited from ancient princes – is seen on chevrons, T-shirts, and even as tattoos.
These are the symbols by which we recognize our fellow Ukrainians anywhere. And these are the emotions that unite us when we hear the sound of Ukraine.
And these are our achievements, which were not given by anyone, but brought by all of us for Ukraine.
All this is our country.
Today, on the Day of Ukrainian Statehood, on the Day of the Baptism of Kyivan Rus’-Ukraine, we remember the path that Ukraine has overcome, and we are fully focused on the battle that Ukraine must win.
This battle is for our independence. So that this independence can be inherited by future generations. Inherited, not fought for. So that we can give them pride in Ukraine, not its pain.
And so that no more "Putins" dare to bring ruins and suffering here.
We are already separated from this enemy by our spirit.
And we must do everything to ensure that our national border with them becomes a true boundary between our world, which is inseparable from the global world, and those who seek to destroy us.
We must defeat this evil, and Ukraine will do it.
There will always be Ukraine here. Our history. Our people. Our state.
Congratulations on the Day of Ukrainian Statehood! And I thank everyone who stands with Ukraine!
Glory to our people! Glory to Ukraine!

the funny thing about the olympics is that if team USA win a gold medal in basketball the NBA would still not be world champions like noah lyles is still right and will still be right

I swear... I use to love videogames' OST sometimes more than actual music, but AAMFP music has something so melancholic and dramatic, so dark and sad that everytime I listen to it makes my body goosebump like a crazy.
This song is art. It summarizes very well Oswald tragic background.

3. screenshot or description of the worst take you've seen on tumblr
shan't be posting a screenshot, but the take that ‘defending katherine parr is defending thomas seymour’ is actually repugnant. her actions wrt elizabeth can and should be criticised — but within their proper context. katherine was a brilliant woman but she was also a woman, and legally, socially and culturally her husband overpowered her. she lived in a patriarchal society. she was negligent, at best, complicit, at worst — but she did warn ashley to keep an eye on thomas and elizabeth, did berate her husband for his ill-treatment, and did ultimately send elizabeth away. she was also pregnant with his child and the pregnancy seems to have been difficult. and elizabeth loved her; she was more her mother than anyone else. putting her on the same level as thomas seymour is just so gross to me.
8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
i PROMISE you anne boleyn does not receive the ‘worst’ historical abuse of the six wives/female historical figures. the idea of an evil, manipulative, promiscuous anne boleyn is nowhere near as culturally prevalent and pervasive as you insist it is. she very much does not have it anywhere near as bad as is claimed.
people simply do not care about anne boleyn, far more than they actively hate her — and where she does get treated with misogyny, it’s on a similar level to other female historical figures. it’s not distinct to her. moreover, what is unique to her is the level of revisionism and attention she gets. as another post has already put it: “anne's reinvention has been the most powerful and vocal in historical circles. anne is the center of almost all revisionist efforts in tudor historiography”. none of the six wives have been researched, revisited, reimagined and rehabilitated or simply discussed even a fraction as much.
we've already been over this. at this point i honestly believe insistence over this simply comes down to people looking for a thing to feel persecuted and exceptional over, while lacking the academic curiosity, talent and integrity to actually go and find something more tangible than the single most popular person in tudor history.
Tumblr media
10. worst part of fanon
the hypocrisy/doublethink is truly something in this fandom sometimes. ‘monarchy was sacrosanct’ so therefore the commons unfailingly accepted the divine right of kings, except for all the times when they didn't and all the numerous recorded instances of royals being slandered/revolted against... but simultaneously, recognising the use of myth/prophecy and mysticism/faith in discourses of the time is ‘lionising’ historical figures, so we can't talk about henry vii and allusions to y daroganwr or king arthur but we can compare anne boleyn to classical mythology. sure!
13. worst blorboficiation
i recently saw that michael hick’s ‘the self-made king’ book about richard iii (which i haven’t read, so for all i know is very good but the title has always put me off) in a bookshop, and it reminded me how profoundly intellectually dishonest ricardians are. whether or not hicks’ book is sound, the popular/fandom approach to idealising richard iii is legitimately insane. truly i believe the only reason for mutilating the historical richard like this — to turn him into some fantasy merrie olde englande caricature of a medieval king — is to appropriate him into a racist, xenophobic, classist conservative ideal of monarchy. for as much as they might talk of him being ‘self-made’ or ‘socialist’ (as professional-at-failing-upwards matt lewis described him), they clearly do not care for such ideas, because they are centering them around (a fundamentally flawed understanding of) medieval monarchy. it's so ugly.
14. that one thing you see in fics all the time
i don’t read fanfic, but i see posts abt them and edit aus a lot and a consistent thing that i just cannot understand is the ‘fix-it’ narratives that have the women having numerous pregnancies. why? especially because the dates given essentially prove that in these aus, women never get to spend any time not pregnant or getting impregnated — including the historic protocols of lying in, churching etc., or religious conventions (sex was forbidden on certain days etc). it all basically creates an image of a husband who disrespects his wife by constantly trying to impregnate her, and a woman forced to endure the physical demands of constant pregnancy/labour with no regard for any other facet of her life/personhood. especially since these aus give these women a diabolical amount of children (including forcing twins/triplets on these women). it’s just so blatant that queenship/womanhood = being a broodmare. and, worse, these aus have the nerve to give these children horrific names.
25. common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing
not directly what was asked but it’s genuinely exhausting how predominantly complaints about katherine howard being called a stupid slut have become wrapped up in this idea that katherine can only be worthy of sympathy if she did not willingly have sex. so often people trying to defend her, and criticising misogyny directed at her, ultimately constrain her to a fundamentally sexist idea — that sex can only be something done to her, as an unwilling participant. otherwise the implication is that comments about her intelligence or promiscuity are justified. there is no benefit to whitewashing katherine’s sexuality, and the insistence on characterising her almost exclusively as a victim is distressing. and it’s tiring having to repeatedly point this out. it simply feels like katherine howard is talked a lot but rarely as a fully actualised person in her own right.

Jam, some interview for you https://youtu.be/FKk_Miqx6W4
Thank you anon!!!
A new Olena interview!
youtube
Mostly about her work with some interesting informations and background stuff.
Some private questions at the end but not really anything new.
Asked again about how Ze (and his character) changed during the war. Olena says she can't really give an answer to that because you can only assess any change after the war. But some of his character traits (that were already there) have come out more / are now stronger / sharper. Like he is now more stubborn (probably meant as in persistent) and determined.
Also no, she does not know more than the public, adding she wants it to end (like everyone else; it's a bit unclear what she is refering to - a second term? the war? the separation?)
Ze has become more emotional / sentimental about the things close to his heart / that are important to him as a person, especially family topics (communication with his family, with his kids, ...). He is now appreaciating that very much. You can now cheer him up (and he will get really emotional) with any little thing, like when Olena talks about the children (like when she tells him what the kids said) or sends him a pic of the kids. He wasn't so sensitive before the war.
She talks with the kids about the war.
In February, when the war started, she was on her way to the kids room to wake them and tell them what happened, wondering how and what she should tell them, that they have to pack the emergency suitcases. Oleksandra was already awake and had no questions, knew what happened. Kyrylo was confused and Olena tried to distract him and engaging him (them) in everything they now had to do. For Kyrylo the distraction worked for the first day.
Olena understands that it is a great honour for other First Ladies to be the "first advisor" to their President (like Jill Biden). But she is not Ze's advisor at all. She jokes that a good husband, of course, always will say that the wife is the most important advisor and she is sure Ze would say the same. But he is the President and it's not her place to tell him anything or advise him with anything.

Let's not talk about the fact that I got the date of the thing wrong I wanted to go to today.
It is in fact tomorrow not today.
I already got ready, took food with me and then went to the train station only to look again if I had the right time and everything.... and then I realised ooooh Sunday not Saturday
